- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Julia, Illinois.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: I'm with Ag Bull Media.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: We're a financial channel that loves agriculture.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Today we are going to talk about Chicago wheat packer margins and what's happening with NVIDIA this morning.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Front months were down just slightly.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: The rest of the contracts were in the green.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Live cattle closed about 18 cents down at 210 and three quarters.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle were at 319, even down about a quarter.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were up 45 cents at$80.90.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: As I quote the market here live on the grain side of things, I would like to shout out to our sponsor, plus 500.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Plus 500 T4 Trading Software is who we use to trade the markets every single day.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: As I look at September corn, overnight everything came back down just a little bit.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: September corn is at 512.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Sep beans are at 1249 and three-quarters.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And Chicago September wheat after that big rally was at 7.35 and three-quarters this morning.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Looking at the weather discussion for today, thunderstorms in the Northwest Corn Belt will return tomorrow night throughout a variety of places.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Shouldn't be a big event, but some scattered rains.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: The big story, though, a major heat wave is building.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Models now suggest seven to fifteen degrees above normal could persist from August 30th through as late as September 10th.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: The hottest areas being the southern plains into the southern corn belt.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: A lot of uh knowledge to just kind of digest there.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Craig Solberg does a great job bringing us our weather every single morning.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: You know, it's we can't do much about the weather except, you know, just be prepared for what's going to happen.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And a lot of those areas in the plains are are plenty dry already.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Uh hopefully they can kind of catch some local scattered storms here before the heat cranks up too bad.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: On the wheat market discussion for today, if you didn't catch Chicago wheat yesterday, it locked up limit on a Bloomberg report that Russia sees the peace talks as dead and it plans to escalate attacks, including Kiev infrastructure.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: They are going to have a hard time getting any sort of wheat out of their country.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, all of their ports are have been attacked or damaged at some point.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Not to mention, if they're focusing all of their energy on that global trade, they is going to be kind of put onto a back burner.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: So, U.S.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: wheat, there's more demand for it.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: It's great to see for us.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, that was a huge jump yesterday, back down just a little bit overnight, but still, that is uh way better price than what we were talking about several months ago, as when Mike or Tom Leffler and I were saying it, you know, referring to it as poverty grass.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: It's not poverty grass anymore, folks.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: This wheat market's got some energy behind it.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: On the livestock livestock market discussion, packer margins turned positive last week for the first time since early April.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: And that's really interesting to see because, you know, we talk, well, this cattle market's been bad, this cattle market's been bad.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Well, the Packer has finally had an opportunity to buy here this past week and buy at a price that they can produce at a decent margin.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Now, we can always speculate that, you know, they're making their margins elsewhere and other species like pork and chicken, and that every time that they lay a knife to that cut of beef, it becomes more valuable.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Not to mention, we did that report with Mr.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Jim Leesmeyer just a few days ago, uh, where we talked about some speculative things about JBS with regards to Trump's truth social post.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: I highly encourage you to go and watch that.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Tommy tweeted it out the texted it out the other day.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: There's a lot to digest there, but the big thing is the Packer is now kind of making some money in the black for the first time in a while, and it's important to pay attention to as we go here in the future weeks as we continue to import more cattle from Mexico and things like that.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: The big general news headline for today is that NVIDIA jumps 7% after blockbuster earnings boost AI confidence.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Nvidia shares rose in pre-market trading this morning after earnings sailed past estimates.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: CEO Huang says AI reached its quote-unquote inflection point, noting that the number of companies that needed large clusters of GPUs has expanded dramatically.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Supply chain restraints and rival chips being built by its customers are potential headwinds for the tech giant.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: NVIDIA makes up such a large portion of the marketplace right now.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Love, hate, AI.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: You have to pay attention to it because a rising tide brings up all ships.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: I might have to get a tattoo of that at some point because it's what we talk about here so often.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Outside markets have an effect on the ag markets, folks.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: And it'll be interesting to see what this does to the grain side of things this morning.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: On the economic calendar, export sales, jobless claims all came out, come out at 7:30 a.m.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: here in like 15 minutes.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: The natural gas storage change comes out at 9.30 a.m.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: That would be central time for all of those.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you for watching this morning.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: That's all I have in terms of slides, but I encourage you to go ahead and listen to the past couple Ag Scalk PMs with Davis Michelson.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: He had the cow guy on.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: He had Tommy Grassofi as his guest yesterday as he digested down fertilizer.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Davis has tracked fertilizer prices for the past 12 years, his personal own data.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: So if you're worried about what's going to happen to fertilizer, I recommend going and watching that video.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Well, on the premium side, make sure and stay tuned.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I'm going to record Mr.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Tom Leffler here shortly within the next coming days.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And that's always a great video, the Friday Futures Report with Tom Leffler.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you for watching and thank you for listening.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: I'm Jed Sidwell with Ag Bull Media.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Like I said earlier, we're a financial channel that loves agriculture.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Have a great day.
