- 0:00Speaker 1: And we're live in bear smokeout with barbecue and arn'tbook
- 0:03Speaker 1: for another edition of The Hockey Coaches Show with coach
- 0:05Speaker 1: cav Adam Gardino at my side as well, can you
- 0:08Speaker 1: even coach? Good nice weekend for your for your ice
- 0:11Speaker 1: bus against those other Huskies, as they liked to refer
- 0:14Speaker 1: to yukon.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Good evening, Bob, It was a good weekend for us.
- 0:18Speaker 2: It was, you know, it was an interesting weekend because
- 0:23Speaker 2: I thought we played much better on Saturday than we
- 0:26Speaker 2: did on Friday. I thought Friday we were a little
- 0:30Speaker 2: reckless at times with our play, and you know, gave
- 0:34Speaker 2: up a lot more, I think, on on Friday night
- 0:37Speaker 2: than we did on Saturday, and we found ourselves down
- 0:40Speaker 2: three nothing, but showed a lot of resilience, came back,
- 0:44Speaker 2: tied the game and Joe we get the big goal
- 0:48Speaker 2: on overtime. So it was it was a good sweep,
- 0:51Speaker 2: five out of six points from Northeastern. We have them
- 0:54Speaker 2: again later in the year, so it'll be uh, you know,
- 0:58Speaker 2: it's it was good to I was telling the kids,
- 1:01Speaker 2: it's a nine point when you're playing team three times,
- 1:04Speaker 2: you're playing for you know, nine points. So we've won
- 1:07Speaker 2: the series. But it would be nice to also get
- 1:11Speaker 2: eight points at some point against that team. Yeh.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Couple of goals in quick succession in the second period
- 1:17Speaker 3: eleven seconds apart on Friday, even Guardula and then Jake Percival.
- 1:21Speaker 3: From the coaches perspective, after a goal, when the puck
- 1:26Speaker 3: is dropped in play is starting again, are you still
- 1:28Speaker 3: talking to the previous line And when a goal is
- 1:30Speaker 3: scored eleven seconds later, were you already back looking at
- 1:33Speaker 3: the play or were you still kind of no assessing
- 1:36Speaker 3: what it scored.
- 1:36Speaker 2: No, we don't. One of the things we focus on,
- 1:38Speaker 2: we call those swing shifts, and whether you get scored
- 1:41Speaker 2: on or whether you score, I don't even focus on
- 1:44Speaker 2: the group that scored. It's all about the next group
- 1:48Speaker 2: that's going out. And not only did we score eleven
- 1:51Speaker 2: seconds after the first goal, we scored on the next
- 1:57Speaker 2: shift after they tied it. So yeah, there was two
- 2:00Speaker 2: swing shift goals. I thought that were really integral in
- 2:03Speaker 2: us being successful that night.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Right, they scored, and then twenty six seconds later was
- 2:08Speaker 3: when Jake personally had his second goal.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was you know, looking over at their
- 2:12Speaker 2: bench after Jake scored that goal, it was crushing for them.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Because they had come all the way back they tied it,
- 2:18Speaker 2: you know, And the same thing almost happened to us
- 2:22Speaker 2: on Saturday. After we tied it. It was about three
- 2:25Speaker 2: and a half minutes left and they had an unbelievable
- 2:28Speaker 2: chance and Tyler made an incredible save. That was probably
- 2:33Speaker 2: the only real good chance the rest of the way.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But it was really good chance, and that would have
- 2:37Speaker 2: been backbreaking if they scored that. Mike.
- 2:40Speaker 1: How similar was that Saturday night as opposed to the
- 2:44Speaker 1: previous Saturday night where it came back from two goals
- 2:46Speaker 1: down at Providence to at least get the extra point
- 2:48Speaker 1: and win in the shootout.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I don't think it was very similar at all. I
- 2:51Speaker 2: thought at Providence they were playing pretty well. We had
- 2:56Speaker 2: a big third period against Providence. Against Northeast, I honestly
- 3:02Speaker 2: was never panicked. I felt we were playing great the
- 3:04Speaker 2: whole game. We had a unfortunate turnover for one of
- 3:08Speaker 2: their goals. They got a bang bang play that it
- 3:11Speaker 2: was a little bit lucky. Muslik made a great save
- 3:14Speaker 2: and directed it right to the corner and it happened
- 3:16Speaker 2: to go on the kids stick and he shot it
- 3:18Speaker 2: and there was about an echine net that he was
- 3:20Speaker 2: able to get it in. And then the other first goal,
- 3:24Speaker 2: Tyler lost his stick and they shot it down. The
- 3:28Speaker 2: puck was going wide, it hit his stick and went
- 3:31Speaker 2: five hole on him, redirected five hole. So they had
- 3:35Speaker 2: some kind of like fluky goals. So it wasn't that
- 3:39Speaker 2: we were giving up oddman rush after oddman rush because
- 3:43Speaker 2: the night before I didn't like the way we were
- 3:46Speaker 2: playing because one of the things, you know, we like
- 3:50Speaker 2: to be aggressive, we'd like to pinch our defenseman at times,
- 3:53Speaker 2: but we've also got to ascertain when F three is
- 3:58Speaker 2: in a position that we can pinch. And we did
- 4:01Speaker 2: not have great communication between our F three and R
- 4:04Speaker 2: D and we were giving up oddman rushes that we
- 4:07Speaker 2: should not have given up on Friday night.
- 4:09Speaker 3: And so on Saturday, you're saying you didn't mind how
- 4:12Speaker 3: the team was playing, but you're still down three nothing
- 4:15Speaker 3: as a group. So yeah, did you see the players
- 4:19Speaker 3: also feel calm or whatever the emotion would be that
- 4:24Speaker 3: you wanted to see to think, okay, yep, down three nothing,
- 4:27Speaker 3: but they also believe that they're playing okay.
- 4:30Speaker 2: No question. Yeah, And you know, I think the vibe
- 4:34Speaker 2: that the coaching staff was given giving the players was
- 4:38Speaker 2: just keep doing what we're doing. We'll get back in
- 4:40Speaker 2: this game. And when you have a leader like Tabor,
- 4:43Speaker 2: he slip. You know, he leads with rectitude. He would
- 4:46Speaker 2: never ask anybody to do anything that he wouldn't do himself.
- 4:50Speaker 2: So that also helps. When you have a leader like that,
- 4:54Speaker 2: it's a lot easier to coach Mike.
- 4:56Speaker 1: When Jake Percival scores, they usually come in bunches. He
- 4:59Speaker 1: had gone twenty seven without a goal. He gets a
- 5:01Speaker 1: hat trick Friday night, including an empty night or to win,
- 5:05Speaker 1: to steal a four to two win, and then he
- 5:07Speaker 1: gets a goal on Saturday. It's either feast or famine
- 5:10Speaker 1: with him. You hope this trend continues for a few
- 5:13Speaker 1: weeks though. Yeah, he's playing some good hockey.
- 5:16Speaker 2: One of the things that you know he did, you
- 5:19Speaker 2: know Ethan Gardula's goal on Friday night actually his goal
- 5:23Speaker 2: on Saturday night as well. You're playing a goaltender like
- 5:28Speaker 2: Lawton Zacher who's been in the zone. His safe percentage
- 5:31Speaker 2: was off the charts. Yeah, you know, you have to
- 5:36Speaker 2: You cannot be deficient in your net presence against a
- 5:40Speaker 2: player like that, a goaltender like that, And one of
- 5:44Speaker 2: the things Jake did. I thought, really well, was he
- 5:47Speaker 2: got right to the front of the net and deflected
- 5:49Speaker 2: that goal? The uh was it the second one he
- 5:52Speaker 2: scored that night? Yeah, And then his goal on Saturday
- 5:58Speaker 2: he was right there, right on the on the goal post,
- 6:00Speaker 2: right in front of the net. So we made a
- 6:02Speaker 2: point of emphasis with our team that we need deflections,
- 6:06Speaker 2: we need screens, we need rebounds when a guy's seeing
- 6:10Speaker 2: the puck, and he didn't really let in. Nobody beat
- 6:13Speaker 2: him clean. All weekend. It was all deflections, rebounds, backdoor plays,
- 6:17Speaker 2: and I was very happy with our NetFront play on
- 6:21Speaker 2: the weekend.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Right all right, Coming up later, visit with Kayden Shahan
- 6:25Speaker 1: and Joey Muldowney, the young man who scored the game
- 6:28Speaker 1: winner on Saturday night, one of many he escored as
- 6:31Speaker 1: he leads a team with six. We'll come back with
- 6:33Speaker 1: Coach cav talk more about the Northeastern series and the
- 6:36Speaker 1: state of the Huskies when we continue on the Yukon
- 6:38Speaker 1: Hockey Coaches Show here on Learfield. In just a minute,
