- 0:13Speaker 1: and, as always, thank you for having me on the show.
- 0:16Speaker 1: What a week of football it's been, not just in the afl but in the sample as well.
- 0:22Speaker 1: We're going to get to the sample a little bit later on.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We have some good news for people like me who go for west adelaide winning the 16th premiership.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We will get to that as well.
- 0:32Speaker 1: But we're going to start off with the afl semifinals and we're going to start off at home with the adelaide crows versus hawthorne.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Now, adelaide probably they did this to himself.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I reckon I think that's that's the fair call here.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I feel like the crows.
- 0:43Speaker 1: They did this to himself.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I reckon I think that's the fair call here.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I feel like the Crows.
- 0:45Speaker 1: They did this to themselves.
- 0:46Speaker 1: The airport did this to themselves.
- 0:48Speaker 1: The city did this to itself.
- 0:50Speaker 1: They went out there.
- 0:51Speaker 1: They looked flat in the first five, 10 minutes of that game.
- 0:56Speaker 1: That's all that Hawthorne needed to really stamp their footing.
- 0:59Speaker 1: The final score in the first semifinal Adelaide 10-7, 67.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Hawthorne 14-17, 101.
- 1:06Speaker 1: So, hawthorne, we could say bad kicking is bad football, but when you are in that position where you are just running up scoring chances, that is what you need to be, especially when your first attempts are on target.
- 1:17Speaker 1: That first two minutes 10 seconds.
- 1:20Speaker 1: That's all I needed to see in the game was that.
- 1:22Speaker 1: First two minutes 10 seconds, 3-1.
- 1:23Speaker 1: That is where you need to be in finals.
- 1:25Speaker 1: They absolutely nailed the brief of what they needed to do coming into Adelaide getting the job done against a Crows team who really, really looked like they were lost.
- 1:34Speaker 1: They were lifeless and they probably didn't really belong the semifinal table.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You know they lost to Collingwood last week.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I thought, okay, lose to Collingwood, that's fair, I can take that.
- 1:46Speaker 1: But then you come out this week.
- 1:48Speaker 1: The fans, fans that seem to be really divided.
- 1:50Speaker 1: There is a absolute division.
- 1:52Speaker 1: That's what I saw all week on on the news.
- 1:55Speaker 1: On social media there was this, this idea that the crowd within the Crows fans went out to the game where they played again against Conewood last week.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So first week of finals that Isaac Quaynor and Dan Houston deserve to be booed.
- 2:10Speaker 1: No, nobody deserves to be booed.
- 2:13Speaker 1: People on the internet were saying these people, you know they don't represent the club, they don't represent what Adelaide Football Club stands for.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I agree with that.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Adelaide Football Club's always been a good club.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I know what they're about in the community, being in South Australia, ben, I'm sure you do too.
- 2:27Speaker 1: We've probably had interactions with the club before on a personal level growing up being junior members.
- 2:34Speaker 1: But it shows a real divide in the club.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Some people are happy to go out there and just say whatever they feel like, be whatever they feel like, because their guy's not playing.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, because Ilo Rankin's not playing.
- 2:45Speaker 1: We're going to get to him in a second, but it's not a good position for the Crows to be in, I'll tell you that much.
- 2:49Speaker 1: That's what I'm really concerned about, because now the players and the fans.
- 2:54Speaker 1: There's starting to be a division amongst the fans, and this is where clubs crumble when the fans divide.
- 2:59Speaker 1: We had 53,000 there the last two weeks and the fans are starting to divide on the internet and the media.
- 3:08Speaker 1: That's what makes the club crumble.
- 3:09Speaker 1: We can see this with, you know, port Adelaide already.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I don't want to bring them up, but it's a good case study of, you know, the Hinkley in, hinkley out.
- 3:20Speaker 1: You know, and I'm not going to say it's going to get to that, but it's going to be, I think, a situation where the players realize it too.
- 3:26Speaker 1: The players aren't dumb, the players are pretty keen onto this stuff.
- 3:30Speaker 1: They realize it too, that the fans.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Some of them did just purposely go there to boo against Collingwood and some genuinely went there to watch the Crows try their best.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And then during the week we had the whole situation going the Hawthorne game and karma come back, bit the crows right in the ass because you know talking all week.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Oh, there's no way Hawthorne can beat us.
- 3:51Speaker 1: More.
- 3:52Speaker 1: More division, the airport signs oh my god, the whole thing was an absolute horror show.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I don't know where to start.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I think I'm going to start with the airport signs.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Actually now, full credit to Adelaide Airport for doing this, putting up signs being like you're in Crow's country.
- 4:08Speaker 1: You are going to get knocked off here, boy.
- 4:10Speaker 1: But no, no, no, no, no.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You tried it last week against Collingwood.
- 4:14Speaker 1: It didn't work.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Then you tried it again this week against Hawthorne and you paid the price.
- 4:20Speaker 1: It didn't work.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You lose, you shut your mouth, you put your head down, you go to work.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Now we move on to the coaches.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Matthew Nix, you're in the firing line right now.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Mate, you want to talk?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Hawthorne?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Okay, hawthorne's a good opponent, but we're better.
- 4:33Speaker 1: There's no way we can see them beating us because we believe we're the better team.
- 4:35Speaker 1: That's a great way to pump up your team and I have no problem with that.
- 4:47Speaker 1: But it's finals football.
- 4:47Speaker 1: You need to realize that anything can happen, even the most inconceivable.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Out there, hawthorne gets a three goal head start in the first five minutes thing can happen, it's, it's it's the nature of finals that the Crows have had to come to do deal with recently, that harsh, harsh reality of finals being this kind of way and not being like any home and away game.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So, crows, I really think that if you did this to yourself, rankin or not, I feel like if we're going to pass blame on anyone, unfortunately I think I'm just going to have to put it on him.
- 5:15Speaker 1: He opened his mouth, he said one dumb thing.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I mean, he made a mistake on the field.
- 5:19Speaker 1: We've all done, I've made mistakes on the field, ben, I'm sure you have as well, where we say something or do something that's not in line with our club values or our personal values.
- 5:32Speaker 1: But we see that it costs our team and you set yourself up 18 and five come the end of the regular season and then you say one stupid thing in round 23 against Collingwood, in the minor premiership clinching game, or pretty much the minor premiership clinching game, and you shove your team off a cliff really is what you do.
- 5:46Speaker 1: So I think for the Crows it's going to be a very, very long next 12 months because, as I say about all the teams, it's you get to this stage and then you lose.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You're just as better off as you're just as worse off as the teams who don't make finals.
- 6:00Speaker 1: All that six months of hard work and you're going back to zero and zero, with nothing to show for it.
- 6:05Speaker 1: It's about understanding that the moment passes you.
- 6:09Speaker 1: You have to be there for the moments.
- 6:11Speaker 1: These are the moments that define people as athletes in life.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Now do I think the Crows are going to go full 2017, 2018?
- 6:20Speaker 1: No, I don't.
- 6:21Speaker 1: But this is going to hurt the players over the offseason.
- 6:24Speaker 1: It's going to hurt the players in the preseason.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It's going to hurt the players more next year if they come to round one and they don't have a good effort in round one, they don't have a good effort in round two or round three and suddenly, okay, there might not be zero on three, there might be one and two, two and one, but those wins have been very close and maybe a big loss in there to a Collingwood or Geelong or Brisbane in that first three games as well.
- 6:47Speaker 1: So the Crows not in the best place right now.
- 6:51Speaker 1: We're going to jump over to the Hawks now.
- 6:52Speaker 1: They played a fantastic game.
- 6:54Speaker 1: They played a brilliant game.
- 6:56Speaker 1: They knew what they were doing.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Their game plan was solid, you know, and, as I said in the intro, the way that they just claimed those first couple of center clearances, run it out and, you know, really put a message to the crowd saying you're not going to run this show, we are.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That's what makes this Hawthorne team so special and so different.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It is, you know.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Again I said I looked at their scoreboard 14-17, but that 14-17 came later on in the game.
- 7:27Speaker 1: That first quarter, you know 4-4 is, you know, a pretty solid first start.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But then it happened really in that third quarter where they still kicked five goals.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So I'm not even going to complain about that this week they were the better team on the day.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I accept that.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I think a lot of Crows fans have to accept that Hawthorne outplayed you and they won.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Hawthorne won the game not because Adelaide didn't show up, but because they were more willing to do the little things.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I talked about it last week, doing the little things in finals football, where you go and you do that extra half a yard of pace, that extra 10% of commitment in a contest.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Those are the things that define an elite finals team from a regular finals team.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And this is what Hawthorne Hawthorne and Mitchell Mitchell played under Clarkson at Hawthorne.
- 8:10Speaker 1: He knows all about this stuff and that's what he's teaching this next generation of Hawthorne players.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So they're positioned really well.
- 8:18Speaker 1: They're going to go on and play the Cats.
- 8:24Speaker 1: We'll talk about that game later on.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I'm going to get on to my player of the game now, because I think this guy, he really deserves it.
- 8:27Speaker 1: He's been such a standout player all year for just not Hawthorne but across the AFL, one of the real standouts this season, and it is going to be Jack Gunston from Hawthorne.
- 8:37Speaker 1: 100 fantasy, 5 goals, 16 touches, 13 kicks, 3 handballs, 7 marks in what was just another winding back of the clock effort from Jack Gunston.
- 8:48Speaker 1: He's done it all year.
- 8:49Speaker 1: He's up to 70 goals this year but for a man who was supposed to be going back to Hawthorne to live out his final days as an AFL footballer and just help the young guys, you know, eventually before getting dropped out, you know, as they come back up the ladder.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Well, he's been a key piece in them coming back up the ladder.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Especially he did so much work last year, but especially this year.
- 9:09Speaker 1: 70 goals from him at 33 years old is absolutely impressive considering the narrative going on around him in the early season.
- 9:16Speaker 1: So well done to Hawthorne.
- 9:18Speaker 1: You'll move on.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You play Geelong Adelaide.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Unfortunately, time to go home, sit back and think about what happens over the offseason, because it is going to be a tough 12 months for the Crows.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I will tell you that right now.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Now we're on to the second semi-final in the 2025 AFL final series.
- 9:38Speaker 1: This one was the Q clash semi between the Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast Suns and this one, unfortunately, was very much all Brisbane from really the second quarter.
- 9:50Speaker 1: The first quarter very even.
- 9:53Speaker 1: It looked like Gold Coast were pulling away in that first quarter.
- 9:56Speaker 1: First quarter was 3-4 to the Gold Coast, 3-5 to the Lions, brisbane just edging away in that back end of the first quarter before they really just put the foot down and run away with it.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Gold Coast two goals in the second quarter to Brisbane's six, only four points in the third quarter for Gold Coast to Brisbane's three goals and then one goal to two in the final quarter as Brisbane run out of this semifinal.
- 10:16Speaker 1: In the final quarter, as Brisbane run out of this semi-final 14-16-100, Gold Coast 6-11-47.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Unfortunate stuff for Gold Coast.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I really thought they could have done a lot more with this, considering they had a Q-Clash semi at well, not at home but in Queensland where you have the two Queensland teams, the weather kind of neutralizes off in terms of getting any advantage from playing against the interstate side.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But Brisbane did play their better football against Gold Coast.
- 10:41Speaker 1: As I said, I've been talking about this on the show, the last couple of weeks have been leading into finals.
- 10:47Speaker 1: As we've got into finals, especially last week as well, I think that matchups were going to be key across finals and I think that Geelong match up well against Brisbane and I think that Brisbane match up well against Gold Coast.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And this is the thing is when you match up well against a team you play, you know your football probably looks better than it is Now.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Brisbane, for all rights, had an absolutely brilliant game.
- 11:11Speaker 1: But in fair weather at the Gabba, brisbane do match up well against Gold Coast.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I know I say Gold Coast probably should have won this one.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I do I still.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I said Gold Coast probably should have won this one.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I do.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I still believe at least they should have put in a lot better of a performance on the scoreboard.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Their effort I can't fault their effort.
- 11:25Speaker 1: All night it was up.
- 11:26Speaker 1: They're just not getting the bounce of the football going their way.
- 11:29Speaker 1: So unfortunately they're for the Suns.
- 11:31Speaker 1: But they have had a brilliant first finals campaign.
- 11:35Speaker 1: They go all the way across the country, knock off Fremantle in what would be an absolute classic final, you know, going forward part of the Gold Coast history forever.
- 11:46Speaker 1: That first win, david Swallow kicking the golden point at the end there for the Gold Coast, and then just the jubilation the players showed after the game in the rooms.
- 11:54Speaker 1: You know Q-Clash there was Q-Clash semi that was so excited for this.
- 11:58Speaker 1: And then the moment just got to him, just the experience of Brisbane just got to him.
- 12:02Speaker 1: And and this is okay because this is a learning experience for Gold Coast, like Adelaide, this is a learning experience.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Two sides pretty much the majority of the list, if not the whole list have never seen football.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Whenever I never played in AFL level football come, you know, there's not a lot to be negative about.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Probably the way it ended is probably the real, only negative.
- 12:24Speaker 1: But Brisbane, though you know they get the win.
- 12:27Speaker 1: No kneel available for them in this game, but they're still able to get the win because they dig down deep.
- 12:34Speaker 1: When Gold Coast started to get a run, they capped it and they totally flipped the game on its head from that very, very early point of the first quarter and then just ran out of the game from there, pretty much in a real Brisbane fashion.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Just clean football Players willing to do the extra yards, willing to put in that extra effort to get the side over the line, and I can't fault them.
- 12:58Speaker 1: They're going to go and play Collingwood next week in the other prelim.
- 13:02Speaker 1: That's what we're going to talk about in a minute.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Before we do that, we have to give our player of the game, player of the game for Brisbane and the Gold Coast Suns.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I'm going to have to give it to Will Ashcroft from Brisbane.
- 13:15Speaker 1: 111 fantasy two, two goals, 28 touches, 15 kicks, 13 handballs, three marks and four tackles for Will Ashcroft.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Now, with the matchup sorted, it's time to get into the preliminary finals for AFL season 2025, and we start on the Friday night with Geelong versus Hawthorne, and this is a game that I am very, very interested in as a neutral, geelong are going to probably handle business in this one quite, you know, quite Geelong fashion.
- 13:46Speaker 1: You know I'm not going to say it's going to be comfortable.
- 13:48Speaker 1: It's not easy.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Prelims are never easy for anyone.
- 13:50Speaker 1: It's about the mental game and Hawthorne definitely have that.
- 13:53Speaker 1: But when we look at Geelong's track record of success in the AFL over this long term basically since the Bomber Thompson days there's consistency, high-end pressure situations.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Geelong are, by definition, the high leverage team in the AFL.
- 14:11Speaker 1: They are the team who are the most clutch in the AFL.
- 14:14Speaker 1: You need a team like Geelong in the preliminary final stages.
- 14:18Speaker 1: That said, we look at Hawthorne they are young, they are hungry, they are ready, got past their last checkpoint from last year.
- 14:25Speaker 1: You know they get this opportunity in a prelim If they make a grand final.
- 14:32Speaker 1: This would be a big, big statement to the league that these young Hawks are a genuine threat.
- 14:35Speaker 1: For a long time Now I saw Rowling and Howe come start of the year.
- 14:38Speaker 1: But here we are Friday Night Lights Cats Hawks prelim time.
- 14:47Speaker 1: You know you could not write a better story than this.
- 14:49Speaker 1: You know, for years and years and years, going back through the 2000s and the 2010s you know these two always used to be clashing against each other.
- 14:57Speaker 1: This was the finals matchup growing up.
- 14:59Speaker 1: This is now the finals matchup where, funnily enough, some of those cats are still around.
- 15:06Speaker 1: They're older but they're still there.
- 15:08Speaker 1: The Hawks are the young team that come into this with that new refreshed list and I mean this one is genuinely very, very hard to call.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I think I'm just going to have to take the experience here.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Go with the cats.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I mean this one is genuinely very, very hard to call.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I think I'm just going to have to take the experience here.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Go with the Cats.
- 15:22Speaker 1: And I'm going to take the Cats.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I'm going to say they win by 26 points, but in that 26 points it will be a late run out.
- 15:29Speaker 1: It will be tight all game and the Cats will just have one late run out.
- 15:32Speaker 1: And that is how we get there in that one.
- 15:42Speaker 1: In the other prelim, on the Saturday night, we have Collingwood versus Brisbane.
- 15:44Speaker 1: You know this is a matchup that obviously was, you know, on the cards it's been on the cards for some time too A real heavyweight of season 2025 going at it.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Obviously, those two teams played in the grand final of 2023.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Collingwood won that one.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Brisbane beat Sydney last year to get into, to get a grand final for 24.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And now here we are in 25 where only one of them can play in the grand final and I think this one in Melbourne.
- 16:13Speaker 1: It just gives Collingwood so much advantage.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Neil still out for Brisbane who's hoping to play in the grand final if they can make it.
- 16:20Speaker 1: But in Melbourne the black and white army's going to be out, they're going to be there.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Brisbane could find a way.
- 16:27Speaker 1: They need to get Charlie Cameron going.
- 16:29Speaker 1: They need to get the forward line going early.
- 16:31Speaker 1: They need to be able to assert dominance in that first quarter to really put the other team under pressure.
- 16:38Speaker 1: They didn't do it against Geelong, they didn't do it against Gold Coast, but they need to do it here.
- 16:43Speaker 1: That forward line for Brisbane needs to fire early because Collingwoods will be.
- 16:47Speaker 1: They have so many options in that forward line Mason Cox, jamie Elliott, you know Bobby Hill possibly could come back in.
- 16:53Speaker 1: You know they've got players who are ready for the big dance as well Nick Dacos Pendles is still there, still side bottom, still there.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Defensively they're very well structured with Darcy Moore, dan Houston, isaac Quaynor.
- 17:05Speaker 1: It's going to be a very, very tough ask for Brisbane in Melbourne in a preliminary final to beat Collingwood on Saturday night.
- 17:11Speaker 1: So you know all that put out there on the table.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I'm going to be looking forward to this one.
- 17:17Speaker 1: But I'm taking the pies.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I'm taking the pies by a real grind it out, hard fought, 15 point victory where they just are able to build a two, two, three goal lead and just hold it all night.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Just every time Brisbane gets a couple back, put some more back on the board, kind of footy, very much like we've seen Collingwood do to teams all season long.
- 17:36Speaker 1: So Collingwood versus Geelong is my grand final prediction for season 2025.
- 17:41Speaker 1: With the AFL out of the way, let's get into some of the sample from the weekend because we have some great, great news and some not so great news.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Ben, I'm very sorry, how are you coping, but we'll get to get into that now as well.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Of the sample for this week was the under-16s grand final between Central Districts and the West Adelaide Footy Club, and I can tell you right now I am very, very happy to announce that the 16s premieres for 2018-25.
- 18:13Speaker 1: West Adelaide, the Bloods get the chip in the 16s and this has been a year's worth of effort from West Adelaide.
- 18:23Speaker 1: This has been a genuine hard-fought effort, you know, for this team to come up and get this one Weren't really a favourite throughout the year.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Really Central sort of dominated the 16s.
- 18:33Speaker 1: But as I say, finals football can do funny things to you.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Real gritty, hard-fought game, low scoring.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Final scores 9-8 to 9-19.
- 18:41Speaker 1: West Adelaide winning this one, central's 9-8, 62.
- 18:44Speaker 1: West Adelaide 9-19, 73.
- 18:46Speaker 1: So a little bit of the old West Adelaide's in the mix, but we get the premiership there for the club.
- 18:54Speaker 1: This is, you know, unfortunately, we had so many opportunities to really put them away in the back end with our.
- 18:58Speaker 1: With our final quarter we kicked one goal, seven.
- 19:00Speaker 1: With our second half, we alone we kicked four goals, ten.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So so many opportunities, especially in that last quarter, to put centrals away.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Didn't didn't do it the easy way, definitely did it the hard way, but you know, great, great work to the west adelaide 16th getting getting the job done, you know, getting the team across the line in the end.
- 19:20Speaker 1: So the goal scorers for West Sam De Palma two goals, lawrence Adriani one goal, andrew Climacus one goal, hamish Hudson one goal, calvin Jones one goal.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Central's goal scorers were Lachlan McPhaedron two goals, tony Marone one goal, billy Nicholls one goal, brady Wimperis one goal and Levi Dudley one goal, billy Nichols one goal, brady Wimpress one goal and Levi Dudley one goal.
- 19:41Speaker 1: We'll get off that very quickly.
- 19:43Speaker 1: But huge congratulations to the West 16s.
- 19:46Speaker 1: You boys deserve the premiership.
- 19:47Speaker 1: You've worked hard for it all year.
- 19:49Speaker 1: This is what builds a football club and this is one of the things I talk about with West Adelaide.
- 19:54Speaker 1: We are one of those clubs that we don't have a lot of sustained success at league level and at reserves level, but in our Colts and our junior Colts.
- 20:01Speaker 1: That is where we find our success, because we are one of those clubs who sees a lot of our young players go off to the AFL, you know, very in drafts, in national drafts, in pre-season drafts, in mid-season drafts.
- 20:13Speaker 1: So to have this success, you know, even when you go off to the afl boys you know you've done this together.
- 20:22Speaker 1: So congratulations on that and well done on winning the 16th premiership, because I had another grand final opportunity in the 18th.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Unfortunately, that one didn't go our way.
- 20:32Speaker 1: We were, we were well and truly beaten by stir from from the opening bounce.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Yeah, final final scores here 212-24, 129-81.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Sturt, sturt.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I'd ask for congratulations on winning that premiership.
- 20:43Speaker 1: You are, you are a really strong side this year You've got it across all the grades and the women as well.
- 20:47Speaker 1: So you are.
- 20:48Speaker 1: You are what we want to be at Stanford level from a West Adelaide perspective Just strength across the board.
- 20:53Speaker 1: You know, and I can't I can't fault you because you are just such a good team this year and you're what all the clubs strive to be.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Unfortunately, you had to play us, we had to play you in the 18th grand final, so we couldn't get that one across the line.
- 21:07Speaker 1: But you know it's not something to dwell on.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I don't think that losing a grand final it's okay, it's upsetting.
- 21:14Speaker 1: You do all the work to get there and you get nothing, but you got there.
- 21:18Speaker 1: How many clubs every year say they play a grand final too?
- 21:21Speaker 1: Unfortunately, someone has to lose.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It was our 18th this year, but we we still boys still very, very good effort all year just just cannot be any more proud of this club, what we've done with our juniors over the last couple of years.
- 21:34Speaker 1: This is something that you know.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I I say I say this is what west adelaide I talk about with the 16, say this is what West Adelaide's about.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I talk about it with the 16th.
- 21:40Speaker 1: This is what West Adelaide's about.
- 21:41Speaker 1: We're a club that breeds players for the AFL.
- 21:43Speaker 1: We are basically like the Alabama of the Sample.
- 21:46Speaker 1: If the Sample is the SEC, we are its Alabama.
- 21:50Speaker 1: That's who we are.
- 21:52Speaker 1: We don't have to worry about league level, we don't have to worry about reserve level If that happens, fine.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But we don't have to worry about reserve level If that happens, fine.
- 22:00Speaker 1: But being the Alabama of the Sample puts us in a real special place because we are breeding the next generation of future AFL stars and when it comes down to it in the future, when we look back at these kids' cards and these kids' select cards when they get to AFL level, it's going to always say, imprinted on there junior club drafted out of West Adelaide FC, sample, right and that, and that means something as a club.
- 22:23Speaker 1: That's that, that's where our bread and butter is as as a football club.
- 22:27Speaker 1: This is, you know, okay, it's great our six seasons runners.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Unfortunately, our 18s didn't get across the line.
- 22:32Speaker 1: We'll quickly go over the goal scorers in the 18s and for West Adelaide, goal scorers Oliver Charlesworth one goal.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Ty Brain one goal For Sturt.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Noah Manilo two goals.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Griffin James two goals.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Angus Mills two goals.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Ivan Wilkinson one goal.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Lewis Kellaway one goal and also a lot more on there as well.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I see a lot of words, also with one goal, and I believe I mentioned Nick Mitchell.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I know I have a Nick Mitchell one goal and I believe I mentioned nick mitchell and I have a nick mitchell one goal as well.
- 23:02Speaker 1: So you know, well done to you.
- 23:03Speaker 1: You thoroughly deserve the 18th premiership.
- 23:05Speaker 1: You were the better team on the day but unfortunately for you, our 16s are going to be our 18th soon.
- 23:09Speaker 1: You better, you better be ready for that.
- 23:10Speaker 1: That's the positive I'm going to take away here from west adelaide, so we're going to leave them for now.
- 23:14Speaker 1: But if I'm the sample, our 16s are going to become our 18s and then we're on the sand full.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Our 16s are going to become our 18s and then we're going to take an 18s from the ship because our 16s are developing really nicely down there at Richmond.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Now we move to the reserves prelim that was held between South Panthers and Sturt and unfortunately for South it's more of the same Sturt getting the win in this one as well.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Sturt probably the outsider here.
- 23:40Speaker 1: South looked so good all year.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Of the same Sturt getting the win in this one as well.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Sturt probably the outsider here South looked so good all year in the reserves but it is Sturt able to get the win in the end.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Final scores here South Panthers South Panthers 3-6-24.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Sturt 9-13-67.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Sturt running out your winners, probably coming out as the underdogs but running out winners in the end here.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Goal kickers Full South Ty Gardner one goal.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Ty Gander one goal.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Cohen Shortridge one goal.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Jesse Nye one goal For Sturt.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Morgan Ferris two goals.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Marcus Pavlich two goals.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Ruffin Burrows one goal.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Will Thomas one goal.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Isaiah Fadil won goal.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So that is you know.
- 24:20Speaker 1: That is sending you straight into well, sending you into the reserve grand final.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I believe you're playing the Bays in the reserve grand final.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I think that.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Actually.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Hang on, I will check that.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I will quickly check that.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we have a look at the reserves and we go to the reserves grand final.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Yes, you are playing bays in the reserves grand final.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I believe you're playing them in the league grand final as well, which we'll get to right now.
- 24:47Speaker 1: So it could be a very much a in the grand final.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Adelaide oval is going to be decked out in double blue, black and yellow all day for this.
- 24:54Speaker 1: It is a double barrel of blues versus bays.
- 24:58Speaker 1: For the grand finals we're going to have a look at how Bays got there as they snuck over Norwood.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Ben, I'm very sorry they snuck over Norwood by two points.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Right now, bays living rent-free in Norwood's head.
- 25:13Speaker 1: They are just so much After last year's grand final.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Now there's there's not a much you can say, if you're a north supporter, about bays.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Right now, norwood look like they had it come into the third quarter early last quarter.
- 25:26Speaker 1: But then bays, just much like the grand final last year, ran over the top of you and got the win.
- 25:34Speaker 1: We'll go over the goal scorers.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Goal scorers for Bays Lucky Hosey two goals.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Liam McBean two goals.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Darcy Bailey one goal.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Matt Allen one goal.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Cameron McGree one goal For the Redlegs.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Billy Cootie two goals.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Charlie Molan two goals.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Jaden Gale one goal.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Brian Lowe one goal.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Nick Rucker one goal for Norwood, as they are ousted by Bays here in what was unfortunate for Norwood.
- 26:01Speaker 1: But, as I said, adelaide was going to be rocking out in double blue, black and yellow for the whole day, calling this coming Saturday, this coming Sunday, whenever it is, I don't know.
- 26:12Speaker 1: My team's done.
- 26:13Speaker 1: We got our 16s and we're out, thanks.
- 26:15Speaker 1: But you know, this is what the Sample's all about is.
- 26:18Speaker 1: You have these two strong teams.
- 26:21Speaker 1: And this is what I want to close on for today, as well as giving my grand final predictions for Reserves and League, and I'm going to say that one.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I'm going to say that Reserves goes to Bays, league goes to Sturt.
- 26:32Speaker 1: And now I actually finally want to throw up at that thought, but I'll try my best to hold it in this.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Want to throw up at that thought, but I'll try my best to hold it in.
- 26:44Speaker 1: This is what Sample's about.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Back to what I was getting out of, this is I'm going to.
- 26:46Speaker 1: This is what I want to talk about.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Sample as a league, this is what it's about, where you have these two proud historic clubs who are going to both be in both the reserve and the league grand finals.
- 26:54Speaker 1: They, they have been the best two teams all year across both grades and thoroughly deserve to be the two teams to represent the Sample in the grand final as well.
- 27:05Speaker 1: So well done to Bays, well done to the Sturred Double Blues as well.
- 27:09Speaker 1: It's going to be a very interesting game, or games, over the weekend as we wrap up the Sample season.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Now one last thing before I go.
- 27:18Speaker 1: State of origin has been confirmed.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Afl level.
- 27:22Speaker 1: State of origin has been confirmed during the week West Australia versus the Big V.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Hopefully, seattle Australia can get in on that action as well in the future.
- 27:32Speaker 1: So that is a great piece of news out of the AFL and that is what I'm going to leave you with, as Ben, I'm going to throw this back to you.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to the weekend of footy coming up with the two AFL, and that is what I'm going to leave you with, as Ben, I'm going to throw this back to you.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to the weekend of footy coming up with the two AFL prelims and the base dirt all day at Adelaide Oval.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Thank you very much for listening.
