[hard rock music] Good week, everyone.
• 0:18
Hey. It's Full Spectrum Cycling. 296 for this particular episode. Seems like more than a week since the last one. Yeah, a long week. Not sure if it was the 12 hours of driving up to
• 0:33
Celie and back that made it seem extra long. I can imagine, yeah. Or the pulling over at the side of the road just past Fond du Lac and evacuating the stomach. Ah. Does not sound pleasant. The side of the road.
• 0:45
There's no Shriners anymore. [laughs] There's no Shriner's restaurant. No. On that pilgrimage. No, it was a, it was- That was always- It was an extremely, and only possibly, well-placed rest area. Yeah.
• 0:57
Oh, I know that one. 'Cause I'm like, "Uh-oh, uh-oh. Oh, rest area. I can make it, I can make it, I can make it, I can make it." Door open, bomb, right on the off ramp. It was beautiful. Ooh. Maybe get- I'm sorry...
• 1:07
a little bit of bakery while you're there. Yes, it's, it's- 'Cause they did have some good orange, like an orange biscuit, orange glazed biscuit. At... Yeah, this was just- Shriners... your normal rest stop. Oh, no way.
• 1:18
Not, not your Shriner's. [laughs] I, well, I'm on Shriner's though. Right on. I see how you are. [laughs] One track mind on my- Yeah, yeah... on my biscuits. Yeah. Yeah, so yeah, so it was Fat Bike Birkie weekend.
• 1:29
That's what- Nice... going up there was all about. And I don't know how they got so lucky, but they got snow two, three days before the event. They got, like, seven inches of snow. Beautiful.
• 1:43
And they were able to groom and beautify and, and solidify the course so it was as, as good as I've seen it probably. Nice. It was very, very fast. Yeah, I saw a couple pictures. Yeah. Uh, Mike and Berta had their
• 1:56
little... [clears throat] Ex- [laughs] yeah. Yeah, Mike and Berta were there. Um- He was, uh, single speeding it. They were, they did the half- You know what I mean? They did the half fat, which is, like, 21K. Yikes.
• 2:08
While the full monty was 47K. And, uh, yeah, it was, it was, for the unpredictableness of the weather this year, it was well-attended, I thought. Cool. Um, yeah.
• 2:22
It's a good event, and it's a Wisconsin event, and I think it's still the largest kind of fat bike gathering in the world of its kind. Okay. And, uh, yeah, so there's, you know, you got your coverage on the fatbike.com.
• 2:37
There's, there's some links in the show. Uh, l- everybody up there covers it because it's kinda like a big deal. Oh, yeah. Probably brings a lot of money to the community. I think between
• 2:46
the events that happen at Telemark, the, the Birkie, this, Shamokian Fat 40, it w- cycling and, and other silent sports do a ton of business up in that area. Help keep that afloat, yep.
• 2:59
Yeah, for sure, because the, uh, the power sports guys this winter didn't get jack squat for snow, so there wasn't much in the way of snowmobiling where there would normally be all the lodges full of- Sorry, man, I'm just-...
• 3:09
snowmobile-r, bur- Uh, uh, I'm just-... birlers... I'm just gonna say-... from Sawmill... good... birlers from, by the small, Sawmill. Well, you wanna keep those resorts open, like Oyster- I suppose...
• 3:18
Oyster Bay, I stayed at one year many, many, many Fat Bike Birkies ago. Cool little resort on a lake. Wicked nice restaurant, really good hamburger. You don't want places like that to go away. Yeah, true. True.
• 3:30
You know, you want them to be there when you want them there. You just- Yes... you just wanna be there when the other people aren't there. That's like the old ownership of Ice House.
• 3:36
[laughs] When you had that hamburger that was, like, the size of a hubcap. Yeah. Remember that? No. Yeah. I would, I like hubcap burgers, though. That sounds like a good idea. Mm, that sounds like a good burger.
• 3:46
[laughs] So you're not like- I mean, that like c- like- It was a smash, right? Yeah, yeah. Like, just like a, like, totally... Oh, I like those. Yeah. I like those a lot. I mean, and, like, about that thick. Mm-hmm.
• 3:53
Yeah. Yeah. And mashed all down. Yeah, and just had, like, this weird grease- All the, all the grease and goodness taken out of it... almost like almost a so- Yep. And but it gets a little crunchy on the outside.
• 4:00
It was like a- Oh, yeah... it was like a mini muffuletta sized- Yeah, I, I can see... bun kinda th- it, yeah. I remember that. That sounds fantastic. It's being... What the? That's awesome.
• 4:09
And then- I had very spicy Thai food-... they changed... and that still sounds good. [laughs] Oh, yeah. Yeah, you, you're on the Thai food thing, huh? Oh, I love my Thai food. Thai food.
• 4:18
That's what I had, uh, last week when I left. You were out? Yeah? No, no, it was, uh, delivered or, uh, we had guests over for the dinner to sit around a bit. Nice, nice. Get to know each other. So- And it was-...
• 4:33
whi- while I was gone- It was not... I was like, "What? The, oh, oh. Okay. Oh, there's esan in the, in the kitchen?" I'm like- Oh, okay. See? "No, I'm just trying to be polite and sit there." "No, no, no. Get a plate."
• 4:43
And I'm like, "No, no, no. I'll just listen and then be a fiend when later." And om, om, om, om, om, om, om, om, om, om. What? What? Give me that spring roll. A ravenous, uh- Mm-hmm... ravenous monster.
• 4:53
They got a peanut sauce and I like that peanut sauce. It's really good peanut sauce. It really is. Oof, God. So yeah, I don't know. What happened this weekend while I was gone? Was that, this was, that was this weekend?
• 5:04
That was... No, actually, that was right after our show last week. Oh, okay. That I had to deal with that. This weekend was farmer's market- [laughs]... which was outstanding. Um-
• 5:15
There was a, this was a, a pretty- I did a lot on Saturday and I'm dying- It was a pretty blank-... I totally didn't... weekend. There wasn't really any- 'Cause I wasn't here. Right. Well, of course. That's why.
• 5:23
[laughs] Must've been awful 'cause Greg wasn't, Sven wasn't here. No. It, yeah. I'll be here this coming weekend for, for the- Yeah, this is gonna be a hot one, man... yeah, for the pre and on day of, uh, festivities.
• 5:32
For y- you guys- Justin... wanna get work off for the, uh, 17th there, uh, St. Patrick's Day. But I took it off. Oh, good call. Yep, yep. There's, uh- 'Cause it's like a national h- holiday.
• 5:41
So- At least for whatever percent- Is that a Monday? Yeah. It's a Monday? It's a Monday. Okay. Yeah. I lo- I love it when Patty's Day is a weekday. Yeah. Especially a Monday.
• 5:49
'Cause, I mean, I'll take it off just on principle. I know it's Justin Timberlake's birthday ride. On Saturday, yep. Oh, that's Saturday, huh? Yep. Which- We can do that down from, meet him up at Duke's.
• 6:00
Well, I'm not gonna wherever, I'm not gonna go west to go east- Right... to go west again. Yeah, my understanding is Duke's about noon on Water and Juneau- I did that once... which is kinda where the Milwaukee St.
• 6:09
Patrick's Day parade ends. Yeah. Yeah. It ends right around the corner on Highland. I w- I'm taking me mum out to birthday lunch that day- I'm taking-...
• 6:20
but at 11:00 o'clock at Oscars, so I'm pretty sure, you know, I'll be down there by 1:00 PM or hook up wherever they're at... just getting it up. I, I gotta ask, what does your mom get at Oscars?
• 6:28
I usually- Does she go burger? Does she go-... she gets a cheeseburger, basically a- Straight, just a basic cheese?... just a straight... Yep, straight on cheeseburger. That's a fine burger.
• 6:34
And to be fair, she went there Monday night with some other friends to celebrate her birthday, and I went there Tuesday with Marcus to have a burger, of which I ate half because, you know- It's a burg- yeah, I, I'd like that second half later.
• 6:47
[laughs] I know you can eat the whole thing if you want to, but, like, a day later- I just didn't want to put more in the machine than it could handle... but a day later, that is so good.
• 6:54
[laughs] No, that's why- Well, it's true... it's one and a half. You eat the one, and then you order a second one. Then you only eat half of that one. Oh, now you're getting extreme. [laughs] Yeah. Oh, boy. Yeah, yeah.
• 7:02
That's what I used to do with Swingers. So that's, that's- How does that math work again? You order, you order one, then you order a second one.
• 7:10
Well, you eat the one, but you order the second one, eat half of that second one, and take that other half to go. So you're doing one and a half? Yeah. That's a lot of burger, man.
• 7:17
That seems, that seems like a lot of burger, yeah. Well, you don't have... Well, they g- So-... they give you fries with that, so. You don't have to eat them. You don't have to. But you want to. You can take those with.
• 7:26
There you go. That makes a good breakfast the next day. So it's funny that every time we go to Con Hidos, Cleona has to order two chicken molees, for that exact reason. Mm-hmm.
• 7:35
"Well, 'cause I'm gonna eat all of one and some of the next one." Yep, yep, yep. And then the rest is leftovers. Makes sense to some extent. Uh, this is it closing- Oh... after 57 years. Well, okay, they...
• 7:51
I'm not gonna hold out hope. Even I've read a lot of their communications and memos and whatever about the, "No, we're really, we're done. We, no, whatever." Yeah. Yeah.
• 8:02
I mean, I'm holding out hope on that one, 'cause that place was great. No, that- And especially, I mean, during Best Deal days. Oh, yeah. It was, like, just a great oasis. Yeah. You know, "Okay, let me slide in here."
• 8:15
As long as it's, like, before 7:00, it's still happy hour. They honor that, so it's buy one, get one. Nice. And they give you a little receipt thing, and it's good until midnight of that day. Ooh, that's a good call.
• 8:27
Yeah, it was, like, this w- like, total awesome hack in there. I'm sure. And I was just like, "Da, da, da, da, da." So that's the Best Deal day, uh, so they won't even be open 'cause it basically closed, like, now. Yeah.
• 8:39
Yeah. Yeah, they posted after they closed. Right. Right. And I- I mean, a lot can happen between now and then. Sure. Because, I mean, it's a money grab. Right. And I know it wasn't the only...
• 8:49
It, it wasn't the- For somebody who takes over that premises, I'll say that... it wasn't the oldest LGBTQ type bar- But it's the long- I thought it was. Longest running... longest running.
• 8:56
But it was certainly the longest running- Yeah... I think, at 57 years of- Yeah... of being right down there on, what is that, Jackson and- Wells... Wells. Right across from Real Chili. Real Chili over there. Yep, yep.
• 9:07
I don't know how real that chili is these days. And the old Taylor's. That's not Taylor's anymore, is it? So... Yeah. No. Oh, yeah, yes it is. Oh, it's still Taylor's. Wow. Yeah. I went to grade school with the family.
• 9:15
[laughs] Oh, wow. Robert Taylor. So- "Hello, my name is Robert Taylor"... this is, this is no longer it. Oh. No, that sucks tits. Bye, tits. Bye, tits. Sorry, tits.
• 9:25
Uh, you guys, you guys don't watch Severance yet, do you? Uh-uh. I don't have the apple juice. It's on Apple TV+. Yeah, I know. It's not apple juice.
• 9:31
But if you, if you found it, it would be good because- Yeah, it looks good... 'cause Christopher Walken is in it. Yeah, I heard. Mm-hmm. And he's so awesome.
• 9:37
And I forget what episode it is in season- I think there's a Patton Oswalt in there at- Uh... occasion. Maybe. Maybe. I don't know if I've seen him yet. He may have been early. That's a good question.
• 9:46
I don't think I've seen him yet, but it, I'm in the second season, and it's- I do think it's funny that-... there was only two seasons. But-...
• 9:52
that Christopher Walken's coworkers have to send him recorded copies of it because he doesn't have internet. Oh, there you go. No. No. So in, I don't, whatever- Unbelievable...
• 10:01
episode it was that I watched, uh, recently, he's got, he's, he... Just w- his quote was, "We had to cancel our trip to Milwaukee." [laughs] Nice.
• 10:13
Uh, you'd have to see the episode and, and the leading up to it to understand the whole context of it, but at least he brought Milwaukee in. Yes. Or Ben Stiller did, since he's the guy that's producing it or whatever.
• 10:22
Somehow Milwaukee got into Severance, which makes it top-notch. Yeah. I agree. I, and I'm finally getting around to watching the, uh, Top Chef in Wisconsin based in Milwaukee, more or less. Oh, how is that? I'm about...
• 10:34
It's fun. I mean, it's sh- That's with all the James Beard people? Sure. Yeah, a handful of them and whatever, but I mean, you know, just to, you know, "Hey, where are you?" Da, da, da, da, da.
• 10:45
I mean, watch them drive in a car. Like, it looks like they're going forever and forever, and it's like, no, you're leaving... [laughs] You're, you're, you're going, like, what, four blocks. Oh, right, right. Yeah.
• 10:57
But, but, but for production value- So it, positioning... it looks like you're driving all around the city, you know? Well, the city is huge, huge. It's like the size of Paris over here.
• 11:04
Is it the, is it l- a lot like the scene of Borcher driving down Silver Spring, where they just keep, like... It's the same, like, four blocks. No, no, no. [laughs] No, no. It's like they're on the north side.
• 11:17
I like that idea. They're on the south side. Is that when he's in the car? They're on the home. I think so. Yeah, just, like, going by that window. This, that, boom, boom, boom. No, it's, they're like, they're...
• 11:23
Spiderweb the city. Oh, okay. But they only went four blocks downtown. Gotcha. So it's like- It was like, it was like, yeah, like, from US Bank building to, uh, Northwestern, [laughs]
• 11:36
you know, almost across the street- Funny... kind of vibe. Funny. Uh, earlier this week, Tony and I went to a WMSC super belated holiday party. Mm-hmm. I saw some pictures of that. I sent you a plus one. I- [laughs]...
• 11:51
I, I didn't have time to reply to it 'cause, uh, Wendy- Yeah. I had a plus two show up... Wendy couldn't go, but... Well, there you go. I was c- So- I was considering whatever, but- Yeah...
• 12:01
  I didn't have the opportunity...
• 12:02
well, this is something to, this is something to point out, in that we got our copy of this year's 2025 WMSC calendar, which I believe you can buy for five bucks right on the website if you want it. I think so.
• 12:12
Well, the spring membership drive should be arriving shortly. Right. So this is... The cool thing is it's, it's Mark Goff-... photography. And this- You mark, marked off...
• 12:21
this guy was doing stuff like on the cover's Isaac Hayes from 1973. Yeah, nice. And, and- Janis Joplin is this month. Yeah, and most- It's pretty good [laughs]...
• 12:28
most of the stuff in here, yep, there's Janis Joplin from March, is from the late '60s and early '70s. And I'm like, how did these guys get ahold of this fantastic photography? But I, a- Tim...
• 12:40
a p- a person we know- Ta-da... has, uh, apparently this was e- a relative or something, and she and her sister possibly, I don't know the relationships- Right...
• 12:48
have rights to them apparently, and somehow WMSE got them. But my favorite one is Leslie West of Mountain at Woodstock- [laughs] Whoa... in 1969. Is he having a good time? Leslie's a dude, dude. That's a dude? Dude.
• 13:02
Mississippi Queen brother. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, not Leslie West from The Rave? Not Leslie West from that, yeah, no. That's- Let me see that. [laughs] That's a dude? He's a big dude, and he plays a mean guitar.
• 13:11
Oh, he does look like he's about to beat me down, doesn't he? You know that song Mississippi Queen? Mississippi Queen. Yes. Yeah. You know what I mean. And, and, and, and- Okay... that's just one of my... That's my fave.
• 13:20
But there's a lot of good rock- He probably has that voice 'cause he was named Leslie... rock and roll photos in there. Boy Named Sue. You don't want rock and rolls. [bell ringing] Clever- Lights...
• 13:30
clever you are with the rock and rolling and, uh- It's timing... segueing. It's, that's what you call producing. Producing. Uh, so that's Top of the Hill, folks. I saw the, I saw- JK, give us the lowdown.
• 13:43
Uh, I don't have much. East Coast Haze, West Coast flavor. Radical. Yeah. Limited hazy series from Sierra Nevada. Sierra Nevada. Rad. Rad little thing IPA.
• 13:54
One thing I did learn when I looked it up is that it's only available through May of 2025. So if you can- Thank God you said 202- I, I was like, "Wait for it?" If your, if your- I'm like, "He was gonna say, like, 2023."
• 14:04
If your, if your born on- Like it's a two-year old abduction [laughs]... if your [laughs] your born on date is- Damn it... is more than three months after May of- What was that?...
• 14:11
2025- What was that beer you bought that I didn't try? Motorhead. [laughs] It was Motorhead. Yeah. Motorhead. Well, this was, this was brewed, this was brewed, uh, just before Christmas, so- Yeah, yeah, yeah...
• 14:20
you should be- Well I couldn't, yeah, I, I, I can't, I- Crip- Cripmas. All right, let's have a flavorful taste. I went into, uh- 7% ABV, by the way... I went into the title wine.
• 14:31
I was l- one of these days I'm gonna get Abita. Well. Well, we're t- Well... while we're talking about beers- Well... we should, uh, also note that, uh- Well, I saw that...
• 14:40
the brewery next door has now redone the horse you rode in on. Oh. Sour. So- Is that one... Oh, it's a sour. So what are we calling it now? Horse- Daddy Rancher... Daddy Rancher? Oh, boy. Daddy Rancher.
• 14:53
So it's a little bit of the daddy noises- I don't know, it seemed-... with a splash of ranch water on top... as far as I could tell, it, it was very, it was very Ron approved. And he was right there.
• 15:02
He, he thought it was hilarious. He's like, "No, that's the name." Oh, that you doing the mixology over there? Well, yeah. At least the name of it. He's like, "No, that's the name we're going with." What is the name?
• 15:09
Daddy Rancher. Okay. [laughs] This is a, this is a, this is mostly- Like-... dad noises escalate with a little splash of- Yep. Whatever...
• 15:18
whatever this new horse thing is that I'm- 'Cause the old one was called Jolly Rancher when you added it to one of the fluffies, so now we're calling it Daddy Rancher. And from how he
• 15:28
in the, the, uh, uh, easy for me to say- Yeah... in the d- discussion, Jesus, um- Make words, make words... I know. No, no. Of how he names the beers.
• 15:41
It's just how they pop up, and this seemed like one of those- It popped... it just popped up and it's like, no, that's what's gonna happen. [laughs] Right on.
• 15:48
[laughs] So I'm like, I'm like- So now you, now you have a hand in the, the naming of the beers over at the Amorphic Brewery. Ah. At times, yes. And yes. I'm gonna take another swallow. This time- He is, he is a poet...
• 15:59
just, just, just little, little dances... and he knows it... little dances here and there. Like when the Super, or Eddie Spaghetti and, uh, Metal Marty were at Sabbatic- [laughs]... I kept leaning into the
• 16:09
cha cha cha at the end of a tune, and he was in the smoking, uh, um, hallway, staircase there.
• 16:19
[laughs] And I didn't realize he was there, and I was just going like, "Every damn good song should just end with cha cha cha," just to whatever. [laughs] And then [laughs] I was like, "Oh shit, there he is."
• 16:29
And then they got on stage and pretty much did cha cha cha at the end of, and has been doing that like [laughs] - Nice... along the, along the tour. I'm like- That's awesome... "Press the hell on, man.
• 16:42
I'd like to leave my little dent on you." [laughs] Pretty bizarro world where- Mm-hmm... you get to help bands with their songs. Yeah. Uh- Yeah... do you guys know what Substack is? Well- Do, do you use it at all?
• 16:56
I don't, but I know it... that is to make, uh, little clips, is it not? It's- Little video clips? No, it's more for, it's like a newsletter you, that you subscribe to, but it can be, it can be-
• 17:08
It's like editing software? Well, like if, like if you'd normally subscribe to a newsletter, you can do that, but you can also sponsor it. So there's a mechanism to be like, "Oh, I really find this valuable.
• 17:18
I'd like to give you guys three bucks a month or five bucks a month or whatever." Mm. Something like that. Mm. Some way to monetize your content that you're putting out there that- Okay.
• 17:24
'Cause yeah, there's somebody- But there's a lot of good stuff on there, and then I thought, "Huh, wonder why Fatbike.com doesn't have a Substack yet?" [laughs] Right. Sounds like it should be.
• 17:32
Which would be why we are now have a Substack, which we'll have to work on getting decent content on there. But at F- uh, what is it now here? I got the thing, the deal, the, uh, there we go.
• 17:43
It's just at Fatbike.com on Substack, so if you're familiar with it, subscribe please. We may have a contest coming up for when you subscribe. We got some stuffs.
• 17:53
Now we're getting some stuffs to give away to people, so- Some stuffs... pay attention to Fatbike.com and how you might win something. Stuffs. You, you, you.
• 18:01
So this show, this show is now sponsored by- Wherever that light is... Fatbike.com... yo, all you. Also, Tony, if you would not mind doing the honors. Cha cha chang. See what's down on the floor there? Oh, I do.
• 18:14
It, it, it might be why- I'm gonna do a long stretch here. I think I can do it... it might be why these things are on the thing to, on the deal, 'cause there's different colors of these.
• 18:23
Just in case somebody did not care for... Here, let me do, uh, let me do that one Uh, since I got the Bear Claw built up from, uh, Jason over there at Bear Claw Bicycles- Okay [laughs]. What's happening?
• 18:35
This, this Chumba- What's happening? I need to know [laughs]... Chumba Ursa Major, made by Linsky here in the US of A, titanium fat bike frame in a size small.
• 18:43
But to be fair, I am 5'8" and I did ride it, and I found it comfortable. But I think if you're 5'4", 5'8", somewhere in there, kinda your size, but that's lickable titanium right there.
• 18:53
I'll have that on the website for sale pretty soon, and you can change the color if you don't like, uh, whatever they call that kinda camo stuff. What does, uh- On the- What are you throwing this, uh...
• 19:04
I haven't decided exactly. I'm thinking 13 hundo about. Right. I mean, they were 25 new. Fork or no fork? It's just as you see it in your hand. I mean, as, as I hold it. As, as you see it right in your hand.
• 19:14
  It's like a baby. It's, it's a fantastic thing.
• 19:17
It's got your sliding dropouts, so you can use whatever you want for a drivetrain, including a 197 roll-off if you're so inclined, or a single speed if you're like Mike, who up at the Fat bike Birkie was riding his twin to that.
• 19:28
My name's Mike. The silver surfer. I like bike. He rides the single speed still. Uh... Oh, and yeah. Speaking of single speed still riders, guess what Spinner rode? Not a single speed. No. Oh, you rode an electric bike.
• 19:42
No, he did not [laughs] ride an electric bike. Fuck. That'd been the best. Penny farthing. No. Well, he's been riding a bear...
• 19:49
[laughs] He's, he's been, he's been riding a Beargrease for the last few years that he bought and basically only uses for that one event, which is- [laughs]... you know, how nice for him. Man bear pig.
• 19:57
But, but we were having a, uh, we were having a, a, a cocktail. I think we were doing, uh... What do they call those things at the supper clubs? Bong hits? No, brandy Manhattans. Oh, old fashions? Or brandy...
• 20:07
Old fashioned. Old fashioned. Old fashioned. I'm not a, I'm not a, I'm not... wasn't a fan, now I kinda think they're pretty good. Now you gotta get a brandy Manhattan on the rocks with an olive. Mm. A lot of olives.
• 20:16
Dave, Dave is a whiskey Manhattan. A re- Yeah, I'd be a whiskey Manhattan... a whiskey, a whiskey old fashioned. Mm-hmm. Brandy old fashioned was Wendy, so I had a brandy old fashioned.
• 20:23
But anyway, uh, we got to talking and Spinner's like, uh, "You brought that test bike up, right?" And I'm like, "Yep, that chick chock's from Panorama." He goes, "Well, how about I race that instead of the Beargrease?"
• 20:34
I go, "Well, that's a really good idea." So we got to the, we got to the pits, the event pits, whatever they call them, and, uh, swapped out some pedals and did some adjustments and let some air pressure out.
• 20:45
And he raced it and by cracky, he finished. That's a good thing [laughs]. Yeah. We had no mechanicals on that puppy. Full or half? He did the full monte. Nice. Uh, he's done it, I think, every year that it's been around.
• 20:58
This was the 13th year, and he said he's gonna do it until he can't do it anymore, so. Well, he certainly can't get cold with all that fur. Well, he di- he didn't wear the shorts and the, uh, and the- Viking...
• 21:08
and the, and the sleeveless top and the Viking helmet this year, so. He's getting old. He actually had pants on. Is he getting old? I don't know. He's, uh- He's growing up... he might be.
• 21:16
You talking about Chewy or Spinner? Spinner. Oh, I thought you were talking about Chewy. You only get to grow- Chewy. You only get to- No, Chewy's not doing the full thing. You only get to grow old. God, no. Stop it.
• 21:26
You don't get to grow up. Right. Well- Well, all right. So you were hanging out with Spinner? Yeah. Did he pick anyone up by the crotch? No, he was pretty, pretty calm this year. Oh.
• 21:35
He was the, he was there by himself, so he had to make, make nice with us, uh, old people to hang out with somebody he knew [laughs].
• 21:44
But yeah, um, I think he wanted to do the event and didn't matter who was up there, he was gonna do it no matter what. Cool. He's a good guy. And we'll have some, uh, hopefully have some thoughts from him.
• 21:56
He did talk to us about the bike after the event and had some good stuff to say about it, but... How was the weather temperature-wise? Uh, I think race temperature was, like, 26. That's good weather.
• 22:07
Yeah, it's still frozen. Uh, it may have just nudged on freezing by the time the main bunch of the field finished, so.
• 22:15
Um, I don't think the course deteriorated that much for the people who were not, like, the top 20, where it's always pristine.
• 22:21
You know, the guys and gals in front, they really have it made because, you know, they've got... it's like- Yeah... not quite concrete, but it's really smooth.
• 22:30
[laughs] And usually where it gets kinda mushy is in the bottoms of the, of the... 'Cause they're really rolling hills. They're, they're not, you know, switchbacky. They're very fall-line rolling hills.
• 22:41
So in the bottom they'll get mushy, and then they'll also get mushy if people don't go over to the side of the trail where they belong if they have to get off their bike and push up the hill. Mm.
• 22:51
So you really should be over on the right side walking if you're gonna have to do that. Yeah. And leave- Pass on the left. Come on, you know, dude...
• 22:57
and leave the left side for the, for the people who can actually do the ride up the hill. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so, um, but overall, yeah- Don't be that guy... I think, I think everybody, even, uh,
• 23:06
you know, Mike and Berta, they said their, their course was good and, uh- Cool... yeah, I think people had a good time, and I would recommend going up there next year, uh, and, and have the fun with the people.
• 23:20
We made some noises about potentially resurrecting the fatbike.com after Birkie party. Mm. In the v- in the [laughs] very early planning stages after, like, three or four, uh, brandy old fashions.
• 23:33
[laughs] Kinda they were talking. Then he had three or four more and then it was all after. Yeah. There was a, uh, there was a- What were we talking about again?
• 23:39
There was a Molly, Molly and whatever her band is called, The Destroyers or The Dyslexics or something, I don't know.
• 23:45
Molly and someone, she was very good, played in the back room at the sawmill where we previously have had our parties. Mm.
• 23:52
And it's a great venue, so it's nice to have somebody back there while we were at the sawmill, which was, you know, Friday and Saturday night, 'cause it's 8/10 of a mile from- Uh, I-... Seely Dave's place...
• 24:02
I should have asked this earlier, but was it really once a sawmill? Not, no, but there is a sawmill in this kind of Seely Hills area- Okay... that the guy that built the sawmill sawed, milled the [laughs] the wood for.
• 24:18
For, at that sawmill. And- If you go back, if you go back to one of the interviews with- Yeah... Dave, Seely Dave- Yes, listen to him... he does explain this- Which I b-...
• 24:27
in great detail and, and- I believe, I know that Pee-Wee... who donated the car that had the motor- Yeah... that powered the sawmill. Yes. Yes, yes. I think it was a Rambler. I do remember this.
• 24:36
It might be a Rambler- Okay... or something. Could have been a Studebaker, probably a Rambler. But yeah, f- uh, uh, Phil Van Valkenburg, uh,
• 24:44
m- famous for Fat Bike Tour of Milwaukee and started Steel Is Real and all that good stuff, uh, did this a long time ago, sometime in the '70s. Wow.
• 24:53
'Cause he was a, uh, he was a good competitor at the early Birki ski races.
• 24:58
And the guy that built the sawmill also built the subdivision where Sealy Dave lives, that was kind of built around cross-country skiing out of your front door, or back door, as the case may be.
• 25:09
It's like small Waukee, but up there. Yeah. [laughs] And there's only like- It's like- And there's only like 20 houses, so it's really small Waukee. Oh. Or small Ski-kee maybe. Small, yeah. It might be small Ski.
• 25:20
Did da- did daylight saving time affect you guys at all? No. You know what did? You know, which is excellent, it hasn't affected Daniel yet, so he's not in my bedroom at 5:00 AM, it's now 6:00 AM. Ooh.
• 25:31
Oh, he came in like a damn linebacker wh- wh- as soon as we got to the farmers market. Oh, God. Came tearing around the corner. Babe. [laughs] Just let him through. You should have saw him- Just let him through...
• 25:43
you should have saw him last night at- But Molly was like-... Riverwest... Molly's like, while he's like, he's like, "Don't you under- No, I'm su- You're s- Kim, you're supposed to tackle him."
• 25:49
You're supposed to catch him. "You're supposed to tackle him." And like, "No, I don't know." [laughs] Kim, not n- not child-rearing anymore, that one. Right, right. [laughs] Exactly. And- Yeah.
• 25:59
And I'm gonna, I'm gonna bet- Until the, until the next generation gets thrown at her... I'm gonna bet even her extra tall, gigantic son was not Daniel's size growing up. [laughs] He is kind of ginormous. He's a big guy.
• 26:10
He's a big guy. He's a good guy, too. He was nice talking to him at the wedding. He was- [laughs]... seems like pretty, pretty cool cat. But he's a big boy, so. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, he's a- He's a tree...
• 26:18
tall, wide dude, man. He's- Takes after the dad. Yep. Is that right? Yeah. The dad- Not, not kind of as much of a jerk, though, as far as I remember Exactly. Well, yeah, that's the thing.
• 26:27
Yeah, you go from a 6'9" and you get a... Yeah, what is he, 6'5", I think? Oh, he was big. Whatever. He's- Yeah. I think he's like 6'4", 6'5", something like that. But yeah, the dad is a tree. I mean- Oh, is that right?
• 26:39
You know, he's like- Yeah... a damn redwood. Uh- [laughs] I took some stuff off the calendar this week, 'cause they're already done, but coming up next on the calendar is not till April 18th.
• 26:48
That would be the, uh, that would be the Green Mile thing we did- Yeah... last year. I thought was the 19th. The 19th is Milwaukee Messenger Invitation. Okay. Yeah, I saw those- The 20th is- I saw those-...
• 26:57
when Jesus-... Easter... provides blunts to everyone. Right. I saw those- I saw, I saw, I saw Jesus- I saw those cats, uh-... on Michael's dash- dashboard today. I saw- I did, too... I saw those cats, uh, scheming.
• 27:06
Yeah, we gotta get some- The MMA guys... we gotta get those guys on pretty soon. I was like, I was like, I s- It's, it's getting close... well, well, it was [laughs]
• 27:12
I d- like walked in, and it wasn't like I was looking over his shoulder or anything like, "Oh, you got your... Yeah, what do you got on the thing?" No, not at all. And then- But...
• 27:22
coming up the first week of June's Wisconsin Bike Week. We can talk about that. But that's 10 days of bike stuff going on, like Coffee on the Trail and- Yeah... teaching adults how to ride bikes.
• 27:30
And, you know, have you seen those- Well-... tri-rickshaws where you take, like, older folk on the front- Oh, those are cool... and ride around with. Are those in Milwaukee now? I, I don't know.
• 27:38
It's, it- They started in Oshkosh, by the way. It, it's pilot training- Oshkosh... for using that device. Now, I don't- Right... I know they're in Madison and some other, maybe, maybe Oshkosh.
• 27:47
I th- Oshkosh, I think, was the one that got them here, and then they went to Madison. I don't know the full story, but yeah, 'cause it was for a nursing home. Right.
• 27:55
That they, that they took people out on rides and- Yeah, that's a cool idea... it, it, it's, it's a really cool idea. And instead of being, like, the person's in the back, they're in the front.
• 28:03
They're sitting next, two people can sit next to you. It, I thought they sit in the front in a basket- They do... and you're back behind them. A- and then you're behind them. Yeah, yeah.
• 28:09
So there's two people right in front of you. Right. More like, yeah. Electric assist, great idea. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Get them out, enjoy some fresh air. Yes. Yeah, I'm sure we'll check that out. Um- I have to see this.
• 28:18
You're not painting- I'll post a-... a good word picture of it whatever... it's a, it's, it's c- what do they call it? A tri-shaw. Yeah. Tri-shaw. I'll, we'll get a photo- It's cool... so you can see what it looks like.
• 28:26
Well, that's, well, well, uh, remember that, um, that woman that had that, uh, that Surly that had the two fatty tires in the front and one in the back, and the long, wide handlebars? Yeah.
• 28:42
You know what I'm talking about? So that's- That's, that's kind of what the vibe I'm getting out of- Yeah. You, you could, you'll see it... similar. It, the, the, the pilot sits in the back.
• 28:49
It's kind of like a, an omnium, but with a seat in the front. In the front, yep. And it's got two wheels up there, and you sit behind it, and it, it's like a normal bike in the back. It's a neat...
• 28:57
There's tandems built that way, too, where there's a recumbent in the front and a standard in the back. Mm. So the person that sits in the front has a, you know, their cranks are way up here.
• 29:09
The back half of the bike is a regular- Okay... regular bike. It's kind of a cool idea. Yeah. Yeah. Um, speaking of people, we- Especially if the person- They have this-... in the back is the one steering it...
• 29:18
and that is the case, yes. Usually the case, yeah. Yes. Oh, kind of like a, you know. By the way, guess who, uh, decided to add a, uh, Buff Ang hub to their tandem? Uh, Paul Taldone. Taldonis is- Oh...
• 29:32
finally like, I'm, he's like, "I don't ride this as a tandem very often, but I carry a trailer full of music equipment." He's like, "Can I put an e-assist on this?" And initially, he wanted to put
• 29:46
a mid-drive in the back [laughs] and I'm like, "You're not gonna get the clearance- Clearance... for your mid-drive." Yeah. I mean, it would be so- Or your mid-drift...
• 29:54
close to the ground if you think about how that would go in. Not to say I didn't want to try it. [laughs] Oh, just 'cause it's so long, yeah. Yeah, but the rear drive might be a really neat setup for a tandem.
• 30:06
It'd be interesting. Uh, I think the hub drive's probably a better idea. Yeah, 48 volt. Yeah. Yeah. Did he a- did he get it going already? Sweet. All right, everybody. Oh, crap. It's late. We got already, we got...
• 30:20
Hey, look, that thing's, I got the daylight savings time fixed on that, so- Ah. Thank you... it actually has the real time. I was gonna say- I have very, I have very fancy new Samsung appliances, and I have to change it.
• 30:31
I have to go to it and re-sync time. I'm like, "You can't do this yourself?" Can't just do it by GPS and be done with it? You are lame, Samsung. Lame, Samsuy. Give me LG. All right, everybody.
• 30:40
Whee, ooh, look at that thing spin. That's pretty fun. Oh, cool. Uh, I guess we'll be back next week, uh, 'cause we keep doing this thing anyway, so, uh, there you go. Have fun. See you later. All right, Aaron Gobra.
• 30:51
  Gobra. Aaron Gobralis.
• 30:53
  [rock music]
