Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up a little bit later on the Yukon Football
- 0:02Speaker 1: Coaches Show, will be talking to Mel Brown, the running
- 0:04Speaker 1: back and the defensive back, Devon Pringle number two, and
- 0:08Speaker 1: we're with Jim Mora.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm Mike Crispino.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I want to talk about Devon Pringle for a second
- 0:12Speaker 1: coach because interesting guy. He came from Grand Valley State. Now,
- 0:16Speaker 1: a lot of folks at Yukon football fans are starting
- 0:19Speaker 1: to get the idea that you've got to go out
- 0:21Speaker 1: and you got to recruit, You've got to get transfers,
- 0:24Speaker 1: you got to improve the squad every year to keep
- 0:27Speaker 1: improving Yukon football. And Devon Pringle, to me is an
- 0:31Speaker 1: interesting guy. Four years at Grand Grand Valley State, which
- 0:34Speaker 1: is on the Lake Michigan up there in the state,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and it's a small school, but they got a pretty
- 0:42Speaker 1: good history with football.
- 0:44Speaker 3: It's a Division two thing.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And I'm just curious, when you go looking for people
- 0:48Speaker 1: or when they reach out to you, how do you
- 0:51Speaker 1: approach analyzing what a guy can do for you, how
- 0:55Speaker 1: we can help the Yukon Husky football team.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Well, we have a certain profile.
- 1:00Speaker 4: We're looking for physical and mental, emotional character wise, so
- 1:05Speaker 4: you know, we kind of put them through our filter
- 1:07Speaker 4: and if they're a fit, then we recruit them hard.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Devin was a fit. You know, he's an experienced guy.
- 1:14Speaker 4: He's got the size that fits within the range that
- 1:17Speaker 4: we're looking for. He can run, he's a great kid,
- 1:21Speaker 4: he's a hard worker. He came very well recommended, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 4: as you mentioned Mike, he comes from what we think
- 1:27Speaker 4: is a really good program. He's doing well coached. When
- 1:29Speaker 4: you watch the film of him, you saw good technique work.
- 1:31Speaker 4: You saw a guy that finished that played with confidence.
- 1:34Speaker 4: And it's like that with all these transfers. Is you
- 1:36Speaker 4: watch film of them, you get their measurables, which is
- 1:39Speaker 4: their highweight, speed, arm length, you know, any number that
- 1:43Speaker 4: you can find, if you can find track numbers on them,
- 1:45Speaker 4: you know whether it be shot put, whether it be
- 1:48Speaker 4: you know, one hundred meters, two hundred meters, whatever it is.
- 1:51Speaker 4: So you can you can see who they are as
- 1:54Speaker 4: a performer, as an athlete, and then you have to
- 1:56Speaker 4: do your research off the field and find out what
- 1:59Speaker 4: type of person they are. Are they going to fit
- 2:01Speaker 4: into our culture? Are they going to add to what
- 2:04Speaker 4: we're trying to be Are they going to take away
- 2:06Speaker 4: from what we're trying to be are they going to
- 2:08Speaker 4: bring positive energy or negative energy? And if we're not,
- 2:11Speaker 4: gonna take guys that are gonna bring negative energy. And Devin,
- 2:14Speaker 4: you know, he checked every single box and he has
- 2:18Speaker 4: not disappointed one single day. He's exactly who we thought
- 2:23Speaker 4: he was and more and we're very fortunate to have
- 2:26Speaker 4: him on our team.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And I thought along those same lines, you had to
- 2:30Speaker 1: replace the defensive line this year. You have been Smiley
- 2:34Speaker 1: Where's number one? The Redshirance senior? You got Vincent Carol
- 2:38Speaker 1: Jackson in the middle of the defensive tackle, Stefan Wright
- 2:42Speaker 1: grad student, where's number ninety two? I thought all those
- 2:45Speaker 1: guys as the game progressed, seem to get better and better.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Maybe I'm wrong on that, but you're right.
- 2:51Speaker 4: You know, it's a whole new group, and you know
- 2:53Speaker 4: they're replacing some longtime Huskies, you know Jelawni and Dow
- 3:00Speaker 4: and price Yates and Langston Hardy and and you know
- 3:04Speaker 4: we could go back even one year with Eric Watts.
- 3:06Speaker 4: I mean, those guys had made a name for themselves
- 3:08Speaker 4: around here, and we're really good players and big parts
- 3:11Speaker 4: of building this program. And so it was not just
- 3:15Speaker 4: replacing the football player, but replacing the demand in the
- 3:19Speaker 4: locker room, in the weight room and in the meal room,
- 3:21Speaker 4: and just the personality they brought. And you know, certain
- 3:24Speaker 4: it takes some time to integrate into a new system,
- 3:28Speaker 4: into a new program, and those guys have done a
- 3:30Speaker 4: really nice job of it. And it feels like they're
- 3:33Speaker 4: home now. You know, it doesn't feel like they're brand new.
- 3:36Speaker 4: It feels like they've been here and been with us,
- 3:38Speaker 4: and they understand what we're about and they've added value
- 3:41Speaker 4: to our program. And you know, that's the scary part
- 3:43Speaker 4: of the portal is you don't always know a guy
- 3:47Speaker 4: as well as you'd like to know them when you
- 3:49Speaker 4: bring them onto your team. And fortunately for us at
- 3:52Speaker 4: this point, you know, we brought in some good, good young.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Men and the linebackers is speaking of that as well.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Taekwonn King, whereas number ten came from Temple Brian Parnham.
- 4:04Speaker 1: They were in on a lot of plays. I know
- 4:06Speaker 1: I was calling their names quite a bit, Donovan Branch,
- 4:10Speaker 1: these guys. As the game can't seemed to progress, We're
- 4:14Speaker 1: in on more plays. They were at the point of,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you know, attack more and more, it seemed, so I
- 4:21Speaker 1: thought that was progress.
- 4:22Speaker 2: How did you vote that? Just like you you know,
- 4:26Speaker 2: it was new guys.
- 4:27Speaker 4: I mean, if you think about the guys that played,
- 4:29Speaker 4: Umar is the only one that had played any snaps
- 4:32Speaker 4: for us at the linebacker position. He and Amir Renwick,
- 4:35Speaker 4: and those were very very limited plays. And so you
- 4:38Speaker 4: mentioned Taekwon, you mentioned Brian who both came in and
- 4:41Speaker 4: did a really nice job. You know, Sioni, who wasn't
- 4:45Speaker 4: with us last year, came in and played.
- 4:47Speaker 2: So we had I think we played.
- 4:49Speaker 4: One to five or six linebackers because we don't really
- 4:52Speaker 4: consider Donovan a linebacker. He's kind of you know, he's
- 4:56Speaker 4: kind of that linebacker d lineman mixed with like a
- 4:58Speaker 4: true linebacker. None of those guys had played significant snaps
- 5:02Speaker 4: for us, but as the game went on, you saw
- 5:05Speaker 4: them learn and grow and get better. And that just
- 5:08Speaker 4: has to continue. They got to practice with a purpose
- 5:11Speaker 4: every single day and then they've got to make huge
- 5:14Speaker 4: strides on Saturdays against our opponents.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 1: A quick thought on the secondary too, you probably well
- 5:20Speaker 1: you know who played how many players? I don't know exactly,
- 5:24Speaker 1: but it seemed to me you left the secondary kind
- 5:26Speaker 1: of alone. You didn't substitute as much in the secondary
- 5:30Speaker 1: in the second half, it was there a purpose to that.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Did you want to see more of your cornerback play
- 5:36Speaker 1: or something of that nature.
- 5:38Speaker 4: We well, you know, we had to make the sub
- 5:40Speaker 4: early when Malachi went down, and so Moy came in
- 5:44Speaker 4: and did a good job.
- 5:46Speaker 2: We wanted to let our corners play.
- 5:48Speaker 4: We made a switch at corner and got Devin out
- 5:50Speaker 4: of there and gave Cam a little bit more work.
- 5:53Speaker 2: We wanted to get.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Osiris in who's a freshman, and get him some work
- 5:57Speaker 4: at corner.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So yeah, we were pretty eddy there. It's safety.
- 6:01Speaker 4: In the second half, we got number fourteen, Tyrese Mills
- 6:04Speaker 4: in there and he did a really nice job for us.
- 6:07Speaker 4: So I feel like, you know, we were pretty consistent
- 6:12Speaker 4: back there, but we got the guys in that needed
- 6:14Speaker 4: to get some work because we know they're going to
- 6:16Speaker 4: be playing for us.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Ken Cam Chadwick, obviously number thirteen is an outstanding cornerback.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Devin Pringle, we just talked about where's number two at
- 6:24Speaker 1: the corner and Melachi went down in a heap there
- 6:29Speaker 1: during the game. I don't know what was the extent
- 6:32Speaker 1: of what happened with him. Was he unable to return
- 6:35Speaker 1: because of injury. What was happening there?
- 6:37Speaker 4: Yeah, he took a shot. It was not a head injury.
- 6:41Speaker 4: It was you know, it was an internal thing and
- 6:44Speaker 4: our medical staff is outstanding, from our athletic trainers to
- 6:49Speaker 4: our doctors. He was taken actually he was taken to
- 6:52Speaker 4: the hospital where he was checked out and released later
- 6:54Speaker 4: that night. I was back with the team on Sunday.
- 6:57Speaker 4: He's in great spirits. He won't be able to play
- 6:59Speaker 4: this week, but hear you back next week.
- 7:01Speaker 2: So scary moment. Yeah, it was scary for me.
- 7:06Speaker 4: I know it was scary for his teammates and everyone
- 7:08Speaker 4: affiliated with this program.
- 7:10Speaker 2: But like I said, our medical staff is top, top,
- 7:13Speaker 2: top of the line, and they took great care of
- 7:15Speaker 2: him immediately.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It's Malachai McClain junior. He wears number seven all right
- 7:20Speaker 1: back with Jim Moore. We got a couple more minutes
- 7:22Speaker 1: with him. Then we'll be talking to Melo Brown and
- 7:24Speaker 1: Devin Pringles. We continue on the Yukon Football Coaches Show.

- 8:45Speaker 7: it's interwoven into your DNA is really the absence of
- 8:48Speaker 7: the connection and the purpose that can really drive a
- 8:51Speaker 7: lot of veterans to some negative thoughts. For those who
- 8:54Speaker 7: are in a suicidal crisis, the window of time to
- 8:57Speaker 7: save somebody's life is very short. Our duty is to
- 8:59Speaker 7: protect ourselves and protect our families. And one way you
