- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, a WAVE original.
- 0:10Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:12Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:18Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:21Speaker 1: a hater. It is that time of week where we
- 0:23Speaker 1: have a guest join us. He got a book coming
- 0:26Speaker 1: out soon. I don't really know the name of it.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It's always tricky when I'm talking about people who right
- 0:30Speaker 1: now don't have like full-time jobs. So I don't be
- 0:33Speaker 1: necessarily knowing how to do the introduction, but it's the
- 0:35Speaker 1: homie Roy Wood. I think that's where I'm supposed to
- 0:38Speaker 1: say a man who needs no introduction. I probably could
- 0:40Speaker 1: have done that. But now I see through that when
- 0:43Speaker 1: people do it. I'm like, oh, you just can't remember
- 0:45Speaker 1: what the things were.
- 0:46Speaker 2: It's like when black comics bring you on stage. Y'all
- 0:48Speaker 2: seen them on all the shows. Common View, BET, Dead Jam.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Show your love. Death Jam ain't been on in almost
- 0:55Speaker 2: 20 years. Ain't nobody seen me on it. You seen
- 1:02Speaker 2: them on all the sketches and then doing the thing
- 1:04Speaker 2: on the clubs and colleges all over. Yeah, man. Good
- 1:07Speaker 2: to see you, man. Man and Many Fathers available for pre-order.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Grab that. It's a good Christmas gift, ladies. Get that
- 1:13Speaker 2: for your man who ain't doing shit in your life.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to getting my copy of the book
- 1:19Speaker 1: so that I can then have you on the show
- 1:22Speaker 1: to talk about it. And of course, as somebody who
- 1:24Speaker 1: knows you and we have group chat dinners and who
- 1:27Speaker 1: has a bit of an understanding of what comes with
- 1:29Speaker 1: that title, Man of Many Fathers, I think you guys
- 1:32Speaker 1: are going to greatly enjoy this book that I have
- 1:34Speaker 1: not even read yet. But the vision is seen.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Coming to you live from a Midtown hotel while a
- 1:40Speaker 2: contractor tears up my house because there's apparently a water
- 1:44Speaker 2: leak in my walls that I didn't know about for
- 1:46Speaker 2: two years.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Ooh, and that is always the condo dilemma of who
- 1:51Speaker 1: do the walls belong to?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Bro, bro, finna have some meetings with these folks above
- 1:56Speaker 2: me because I don't know what y'all been doing. And
- 2:00Speaker 2: my AC been leaking for so long, I need to
- 2:02Speaker 2: go downstairs to the folks under me and just be like, hey,
- 2:04Speaker 2: my bad. I ain't even know the water pump was broke.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It is what it is, man. Home repairs have you
- 2:14Speaker 2: wanting to just live in a tent the rest of
- 2:15Speaker 2: your life. I get why white people be living in
- 2:17Speaker 2: them little tiny houses and them storage containers. You got
- 2:21Speaker 2: to deal with none of this bullshit.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Brother, let me tell you something. I own a house
- 2:27Speaker 1: in North Carolina. And I got a tenant who lives
- 2:29Speaker 1: in the house, but the tenants are my people. And
- 2:31Speaker 1: quite honestly, I'm the most generous landlord in the world, right? Like,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I'm not doing this to make money. The money that
- 2:37Speaker 1: I would make off of them per month would be inhumane. Like,
- 2:41Speaker 1: when my guy first moved in there, he was in
- 2:42Speaker 1: law school. He's one of my former students, right? I'm like, no.
- 2:45Speaker 1: You know, take care of it. You know, be in
- 2:47Speaker 1: the crib. Take care of the crib. Get your life right,
- 2:50Speaker 1: little homie. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Like, that's what.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Right, right. That's what I'm there to provide the security
- 2:57Speaker 1: to help. And it's been my privilege to be able
- 2:59Speaker 1: to help them out. But brother, brother, brother, when I
- 3:02Speaker 1: got this call in June after I had just made
- 3:06Speaker 1: a fairly significant purchase and they told me that the
- 3:09Speaker 1: air conditioner went out, not just we need a new compressor,
- 3:14Speaker 1: which is its own situation. The air conditioner went out.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Oh, the whole joint. The whole outside joint.
- 3:22Speaker 1: The H, the V, the A, and the C. They like, look,
- 3:25Speaker 1: the AC went out, and I'm going to be honest
- 3:27Speaker 1: with you, the furnace about to go out too. Brother,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I was like, okay, well, how much that going to cost?
- 3:34Speaker 1: It's been a long time since somebody gave me a
- 3:36Speaker 1: how much that going to cost, and I had to
- 3:38Speaker 1: be like, I'm sorry, say that again. Like, even if
- 3:40Speaker 1: I didn't like it, it's like, all right, man, I
- 3:42Speaker 1: got this. Man, they told me $ 15, 000. I said, what?
- 3:45Speaker 3: What?
- 3:50Speaker 1: Like, is there a tariff on that?
- 3:52Speaker 2: Right?
- 3:52Speaker 1: I had to have a homie tell me that his
- 3:54Speaker 1: cost $ 15, 000, so I didn't feel like I was getting worked.
- 3:58Speaker 2: If you was a real landlord, you'd have just put
- 4:00Speaker 2: some ceiling fans in that thing and told them, keep on.
- 4:04Speaker 1: But see, that was the thing about it, is that
- 4:07Speaker 1: because it was the tenant, I had to approach it
- 4:09Speaker 1: with a different urgency, because it's June, it's North Carolina,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I can't leave you in there with no air conditioner.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'm sure there's a law that says that.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Can't be done. Yeah, that feels illegal. It feels like
- 4:24Speaker 2: some base level, what I'm entitled to as a tenant
- 4:27Speaker 2: type situation. But yo, man, this home repair stuff, I
- 4:31Speaker 2: get why people be squatting now. You ever see them
- 4:34Speaker 2: videos where somebody just come home and it's just somebody
- 4:37Speaker 2: in your house? Yeah, that's it. We live together. That's
- 4:42Speaker 2: where the world's headed. You know that's where it's headed. Yes.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Folks doing bad, man. Folks doing bad. I get it, man.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I get that.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I think something about squatting that you learn in many
- 4:54Speaker 1: different capacities, which is on every level, people can just
- 5:00Speaker 1: decide not to leave. Like you really don't have that
- 5:05Speaker 1: many plays with somebody who's like, well, no, I'm actually,
- 5:08Speaker 1: I'm just not going to go. Right. Like, like that was,
- 5:12Speaker 1: That was kind of the Donald Trump January 6th situation.
- 5:16Speaker 1: That is trying to get your money out of any lawsuit.
- 5:19Speaker 1: That can be a breakup in a relationship. Also, I
- 5:25Speaker 1: see it very often with you guys parenting. Now that
- 5:27Speaker 1: you had to take the driver out of the bag now,
- 5:31Speaker 1: and all you got is you got to have a
- 5:32Speaker 1: strong iron game. You can't just rear back and knock
- 5:35Speaker 1: 300 yards like you used to. You ain't got a
- 5:37Speaker 1: whole lot of plays. The little homie's just like, no,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I'm not going to bed.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Oh, dude, yeah. It's just not much you can do.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I almost feel like, in a weird way, I respect
- 5:49Speaker 2: squatting because you're just betting that they're not a gun owner.
- 5:55Speaker 2: You're basically just going, this nice, I saw you leave
- 5:59Speaker 2: for work, I know your patterns, so I'm going to
- 6:01Speaker 2: just walk in your crib and now I live here.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And I'm just never leaving and I dare you to
- 6:06Speaker 2: put hands on me.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 2: And if people don't.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Well, I mean, part of it is that the squatting
- 6:15Speaker 1: population is typically a group of people that you don't
- 6:18Speaker 1: want to put your hands on. You just don't want
- 6:20Speaker 1: to touch them.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I do think the more we get into these smart
- 6:23Speaker 2: locks though, evictions are going to take on a different look.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And it'll just be, I lock you out of your
- 6:30Speaker 2: house type situations. I mean, you can break in, you
- 6:34Speaker 2: can figure out a way to pop a window or
- 6:35Speaker 2: something like that. But like the new way, like how
- 6:38Speaker 2: they have the kill switches on your car. And if
- 6:40Speaker 2: you miss a car note, your car just turn off.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:45Speaker 2: And then I think they changed it to it just
- 6:48Speaker 2: won't start again because folks' cars were just turning off
- 6:52Speaker 2: on the freeway in the left lane. Oh, good point.
- 6:57Speaker 2: The repo kill switch.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It can't happen in motion.
- 7:00Speaker 3: It can't happen.
- 7:02Speaker 1: They had that.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Repo kill switch, your ass merging in front of an 18-wheeler.
- 7:10Speaker 2: You know how you get in front of an 18-wheeler?
- 7:13Speaker 2: You weren't supposed to merge in front of it, but
- 7:14Speaker 2: you got in it because you know you got a
- 7:16Speaker 2: V6 and then that thing just....
- 7:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 2: No, no.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Can't have that. That's a great point. You can't have this.
- 7:24Speaker 1: You can't. You also just made me think about something
- 7:27Speaker 1: that I had not considered with that is that are
- 7:29Speaker 1: they putting the repo man out of business?
- 7:32Speaker 2: No, somebody still got to come get the truck. Certain
- 7:35Speaker 2: stuff AI can't do. You can't Tesla auto-drive a repo.
- 7:37Speaker 1: So this is the thing.
- 7:41Speaker 2: You can barely auto-drive a taxi way more to pick
- 7:44Speaker 2: people up.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But does it make the repo man's job less hazardous?
- 7:50Speaker 1: Because I don't feel like the repo man is a
- 7:53Speaker 1: consistent topic of conversation like it was, say, 30 years
- 7:56Speaker 1: ago when there was actually a wrestler named the repo
- 7:59Speaker 1: man because people was getting their shit repossessed at such
- 8:02Speaker 1: staggering rates. But everybody, well, I mean, I guess you
- 8:05Speaker 1: young people maybe don't, but the repo man has a
- 8:08Speaker 1: very simple job. You stop paying your car note and
- 8:11Speaker 1: the repo man, according to a very particular set of laws,
- 8:15Speaker 1: that is entitled to pull the truck up, catch up
- 8:18Speaker 1: your car and take it with him. The problem with
- 8:23Speaker 1: that for the repo man is very self-evident, which is.
- 8:28Speaker 1: People will shoot you before they let you take their car.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Even if the car isn't really theirs, the car now
- 8:33Speaker 1: belongs to the bank. No, no, no, no, no. The
- 8:35Speaker 1: repo man got ahead at heat because that other man
- 8:38Speaker 1: got that heat. I had a professional in college who
- 8:40Speaker 1: told me that he used to ride around with the
- 8:42Speaker 1: repo man when he was in high school for extra money.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And if something happened, and the repo man pulled up
- 8:48Speaker 1: and buddy pulled the heat out the window and the
- 8:50Speaker 1: repo man pulled his heat back and the only person
- 8:52Speaker 1: that didn't have the heat was him and he realized
- 8:54Speaker 1: very quickly that riding around with the repo man had
- 8:58Speaker 1: a lot more to it he was like it would
- 8:59Speaker 1: be funny they go pull up people's cars and they
- 9:01Speaker 1: be all mad and screaming and pointing down.
- 9:03Speaker 2: The way but the repo man cold with it now
- 9:06Speaker 2: you seen a new tow truck tech they yanking them
- 9:09Speaker 2: in the get in the time there's videos in the
- 9:11Speaker 2: time it takes you to go inside the gas station
- 9:14Speaker 2: to pay for your gas gone Gone. They pull up
- 9:19Speaker 2: no chains, no nothing. They put two lifts up under
- 9:22Speaker 2: them front two tires. Rear wheel, front wheel, don't matter.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Got it. And then they take it around the corner
- 9:28Speaker 2: and secure it. But they can lift and roll your
- 9:31Speaker 2: shit in under 30 seconds, bro. The real repo job
- 9:35Speaker 2: ain't even cars. I had a partner in college who
- 9:40Speaker 2: used to do repos for Rent-A-Center. And I'm telling you,
- 9:44Speaker 2: everything they showed on that TV show Southside, That sitcom,
- 9:49Speaker 2: it's real. You got to knock on somebody's door for
- 9:53Speaker 2: a love scene. Now, you want to talk about knowing
- 9:56Speaker 2: that you coming? You know Rent-A-Center coming because they call you.
- 10:00Speaker 2: four or five times. Hey, you missed a $ 12 payment
- 10:03Speaker 2: on the VCR. I got to come get that VCR
- 10:06Speaker 2: from you. And my dog in college is going up
- 10:10Speaker 2: to grade. He's like 18, 19 years old. And these
- 10:13Speaker 2: are the homes of grown-ass uncles, 45, 50 years old.
- 10:19Speaker 2: With that old man strength. Come on in here and
- 10:22Speaker 2: get the sofa. And this is the fucked up part.
- 10:25Speaker 2: My dog would have to go and repo a sofa,
- 10:27Speaker 2: but had to move it himself because they wouldn't help him.
- 10:31Speaker 2: So you move a big ass Oakwood sectional at 19
- 10:35Speaker 2: dolo in somebody's house who calling you ain't shit to
- 10:39Speaker 2: your face the whole time you dragging it out the
- 10:42Speaker 2: door for $ 7. 50 an hour.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Well, hold on. Forget about the idea that you're expected
- 10:49Speaker 1: to move this furniture by yourself. How about the very
- 10:53Speaker 1: realistic possibility that it's about to be a fight and
- 10:56Speaker 1: you are going by yourself into a home where once
- 11:01Speaker 1: you get past the door, todo es posible. There's no
- 11:05Speaker 1: telling who is on the other side of this door.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Once you get there, right? Like, I once got the
- 11:12Speaker 1: bright idea when I was in college that me and
- 11:14Speaker 1: the homie was going to go kick somebody's door down over...
- 11:16Speaker 1: It's a long story, but it involves both money and
- 11:20Speaker 1: a girl, right? So, there's a lot to it. And
- 11:23Speaker 1: my brother explained to me that what's on the other
- 11:26Speaker 1: side of that door? First of all, the idea that I... Well, okay.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I wouldn't... for there to be door kicking. I was
- 11:33Speaker 1: not a door kicker, but I absolutely called somebody who
- 11:36Speaker 1: was not only up for the task, who every day
- 11:38Speaker 1: woke up hoping that somebody would call him and ask
- 11:40Speaker 1: him to do something similar to kick somebody's door.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Give me the dollar amount at stake. I don't need
- 11:44Speaker 2: any of the details, but just give me the retail
- 11:49Speaker 2: price of whatever this conflict was about.
- 11:54Speaker 1: It was less than $ 20.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Jesus Lord. The principality. The principality death. Okay. Okay. It was...
- 12:01Speaker 2: He's lucky to be here.
- 12:04Speaker 1: No, we didn't do it. We didn't do it. We
- 12:06Speaker 1: didn't do it. I realized I didn't need to do
- 12:09Speaker 1: it when I called my man and was like, yo,
- 12:11Speaker 1: I might need you to go with me to... Don't
- 12:14Speaker 1: say no more. Just show up over here and I
- 12:16Speaker 1: got you. And I noticed right there, oh, this could
- 12:19Speaker 1: get out of hand really fast.
- 12:21Speaker 2: So a stripper stole my class ring in college. And.
- 12:28Speaker 1: What did she think she was going to get for that?
- 12:30Speaker 2: Weird way to start a sentence. But, and this is,
- 12:33Speaker 2: and I'm not even plugging my book. I like, I
- 12:34Speaker 2: told the story in the book, but we had somebody's birthday.
- 12:40Speaker 2: We let, we had the part, like you remember in college,
- 12:42Speaker 2: there was always one group of friends that lived off
- 12:45Speaker 2: campus that had to jump an apartment. And that apartment
- 12:49Speaker 2: was like social center. That was the pregame and apartment
- 12:52Speaker 2: before you went out to the club. We had the
- 12:54Speaker 2: pregame apartment, our apartment, was party central. Half the people
- 12:58Speaker 2: in there wasn't on the lease. And so we had
- 13:01Speaker 2: a birthday party for somebody and somebody got a dancer.
- 13:06Speaker 2: She came, she danced. End of the night, I go
- 13:09Speaker 2: upstairs and I'm going, you know, I'm like putting my
- 13:11Speaker 2: watches away or whatever. And I noticed I have no
- 13:14Speaker 2: more watches. And then I look over there and my
- 13:17Speaker 2: little high, and it's a high school class ring, but
- 13:19Speaker 2: it's mine. It's gone. So I tell everybody, I go downstairs,
- 13:24Speaker 2: y'all check your shit. She got us.
- 13:26Speaker 1: She got us.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Everybody went upstairs, showed up. She worked her way from
- 13:31Speaker 2: room to room and picked out everybody's nice little jewelry,
- 13:35Speaker 2: little hair and bones, whatever. Next thing I know, we
- 13:38Speaker 2: ride through Tallahassee and Frenchtown with a baseball bat looking
- 13:41Speaker 2: for a man named Lucius, who's the one who booked her,
- 13:45Speaker 2: who they booked it through. And then halfway through just
- 13:49Speaker 2: walking down the street, you know how you catch a
- 13:52Speaker 2: glimpse of yourself, like in a reflection moment, in the
- 13:55Speaker 2: glass of somebody's car. I was like, what are we doing?
- 13:59Speaker 2: We ain't no killers. She got us. It's okay. It's
- 14:06Speaker 2: a high school class. And I ain't thought about it.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Number one, high school class ring, one of the greatest
- 14:11Speaker 2: grifts of all time in the history of the school system.
- 14:15Speaker 2: But also, if you're not a killer, if you're not
- 14:17Speaker 2: for real psychotic about that, you have no place even
- 14:22Speaker 2: remotely trying to... But you know, this was... Late 90s,
- 14:25Speaker 2: Master P, No Limit Soldier, I Thought I Told You,
- 14:27Speaker 2: Pastor Troy, No More Play. So you was hype. You
- 14:32Speaker 2: thought you could do it. But nah, man, you got
- 14:34Speaker 2: to take your ass home, man. $ 20, you trying to
- 14:36Speaker 2: kick a door in? Come on, bro.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Brother, in high school, I remember this. This is the
- 14:41Speaker 1: last night before I went to Atlanta for a summer program,
- 14:47Speaker 1: Stark College. Me and the homie Raylan. Shout out to
- 14:51Speaker 1: homie Raylan. If y'all know Raylan Neverland in Houston, tell
- 14:53Speaker 1: him I said what's happening. I think I got his number,
- 14:55Speaker 1: but it may not be the same. I ain't talk
- 14:56Speaker 1: to him in a minute, right? But anyway, rolling with him.
- 15:00Speaker 1: He rolled with a couple of cats that became very
- 15:02Speaker 1: famous rappers down the line. And we Northside Houston types, right?
- 15:08Speaker 1: That's where we are. We on the Northside of Houston.
- 15:10Speaker 1: And for those of you who are from the Northside
- 15:12Speaker 1: of Houston or a particular part of Northside of Houston,
- 15:14Speaker 1: you will understand where this gets to be a little
- 15:16Speaker 1: bit funny. We were going to, and all we knew
- 15:19Speaker 1: was this dude, Josh, was throwing a pool party in Inwood, okay?
- 15:26Speaker 2: Now, is Northside black and hood or black and successful,
- 15:29Speaker 2: like black middle class?
- 15:31Speaker 1: I would say black working class is probably more accurate, but...
- 15:36Speaker 1: the issue with Inwood is there are a whole bunch
- 15:39Speaker 1: of permutations of Inwood, right? So like in Atlanta where
- 15:43Speaker 1: people talk about like it's 50 different Peachtrees. Yeah, but
- 15:46Speaker 1: if you say Peachtree, you're talking about Peachtree. Nobody's calling
- 15:49Speaker 1: Peachtree industrial Peachtree or West Peachtree Peachtree. If you say Peachtree,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you mean Peachtree. If you mean Inwood, anything is possible.
- 15:56Speaker 1: But we get to Roland and this is a very
- 15:58Speaker 1: 1997 sort of story, right? Because there are no cell phones.
- 16:02Speaker 1: We got a couple of pagers in the crew or whatever.
- 16:04Speaker 1: We riding around in an Isuzu rodeo and we know
- 16:07Speaker 1: that there's a pool party in Inwood. And as we're rolling,
- 16:11Speaker 1: we're meeting more people who are also looking for this
- 16:14Speaker 1: pool party in Inwood. And nobody knows exactly where the
- 16:18Speaker 1: pool party is. By now, our convoy got like three,
- 16:21Speaker 1: four cars. It's some cute girls in another SUV that's
- 16:25Speaker 1: rolling with us. I remember I got one of their
- 16:27Speaker 1: phone numbers. It was a shame because I was moving
- 16:28Speaker 1: the next day, right? But we was just rolling around.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Couldn't find, we spent all night, had so much fun
- 16:34Speaker 1: not finding this pool party until finally the homie Aaron
- 16:38Speaker 1: was like, Let's go to that motherfucker's house. And so
- 16:44Speaker 1: now two of our cars are pulling up to Josh's house. Okay.
- 16:50Speaker 1: We're pulling up to Josh's house. And this is in Houston.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I want to remind you, we're all 16, 17, right?
- 16:58Speaker 1: Like this is the age range. We're out past the
- 17:00Speaker 1: team curfew for Harris County. And we outside, we in
- 17:03Speaker 1: the cul-de-sac, somebody screaming. And the next thing I know,
- 17:07Speaker 1: we looked up. And we saw a movement in that
- 17:10Speaker 1: upstairs window. And it dawned on all of us at
- 17:14Speaker 1: the same time. We are in Texas. It is late
- 17:19Speaker 1: at night. And we are causing a disturbance. We are
- 17:26Speaker 1: not just cruising for a bruising. We are shooting to
- 17:32Speaker 1: get shot. And we jumped in cars and we bailed
- 17:36Speaker 1: out like Starsky and Hutch.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Better get on the Waffle House and live to fight
- 17:40Speaker 2: another day.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We rolled out. We rolled out.
- 17:44Speaker 1: We're out and going back to the crib. You know
- 17:45Speaker 1: what I'm saying? This is what we did, you know?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not a fighter. I am where I am now. Like,
- 17:54Speaker 2: I'm the type of person that I would like... There's
- 17:58Speaker 2: one comedian I'm going to do this to for sure,
- 18:01Speaker 2: but like, I'm the type of person where I would
- 18:06Speaker 2: create a fake company and a full digital profile and
- 18:09Speaker 2: maintain it for two years and then create a LinkedIn
- 18:11Speaker 2: profile and pick your resume and then interview you three
- 18:14Speaker 2: times for the job and then tell you you're not
- 18:17Speaker 2: going to get the job.
- 18:18Speaker 1: You're going to do a camera idea to Omar Gooden.
- 18:22Speaker 2: If that's not one of the weirdest beefs of 2025,
- 18:25Speaker 2: of all the beefs that so far this year, what
- 18:33Speaker 2: do we have right now? We have Shador Sanders versus racism.
- 18:39Speaker 2: We have... Who's Cam Newton going at? Cam Newton was
- 18:44Speaker 2: going at something.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Oh, going at Gillian Kidd, by the way. That's 10-8
- 18:47Speaker 1: round after 10-8 round. Yeah.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's... You're going to give Gilly a nine? Gilly
- 18:58Speaker 2: ain't got a nine?
- 19:00Speaker 1: He is... When he hit Gilly with, did you know
- 19:03Speaker 1: that Gilly the Kid had an album called Giladelphia and
- 19:06Speaker 1: I did not know that? That was a knockout punch.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Cam Newton's got to be one of the most astute
- 19:15Speaker 2: but also petty. It's like he uses his powers for
- 19:19Speaker 2: good but then when he wants, he's like, Yeah, let
- 19:22Speaker 2: me go on and just tear you down real quick
- 19:24Speaker 2: just because I got the time. I didn't have Omar
- 19:28Speaker 2: Gooden versus Cameron on my black people beef.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And for those of you who don't know, I don't
- 19:37Speaker 1: even remember where the start of the beef comes from.
- 19:39Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Yeah, honestly, it doesn't. Cameron cast Omar Gooding for a
- 19:50Speaker 1: part in a movie and paid him $ 7, 500. But the
- 19:53Speaker 1: movie isn't real. He booked him and travel for a
- 20:04Speaker 1: movie that isn't real and then got him to sign
- 20:08Speaker 1: a waiver of sorts and put the movie on revolt
- 20:11Speaker 1: or something like that? They shot the scenes. Yeah.
- 20:16Speaker 2: He shot scenes for a film that wasn't real that
- 20:19Speaker 2: was never going to come out. The only part of
- 20:21Speaker 2: the beef and granted this is Cameron and he doesn't
- 20:24Speaker 2: have borders or like he leaves you alone and then
- 20:29Speaker 2: he goes all the way to, he don't take it
- 20:31Speaker 2: to 10, he take it to 12. the only part
- 20:34Speaker 2: of that beef I was like, eh, you put the
- 20:37Speaker 2: man's rate out there. Yeah. Now you're messing with his
- 20:44Speaker 2: ability to feed his family going forward because, please believe,
- 20:49Speaker 2: Hollywood is paying attention to that part of the beef.
- 20:53Speaker 2: They're locked in on that part. They'll do that because
- 20:57Speaker 2: the way it works in entertainment, your quote is your quote,
- 20:59Speaker 2: so once you work lower than You can never work
- 21:02Speaker 2: for less than what you were paid to do the
- 21:04Speaker 2: same role, like the same credit, like guest star, supporting actor,
- 21:09Speaker 2: like whatever, right? So if Cameron paid him less than
- 21:13Speaker 2: his rate, and I don't know Omar's regular rate, but
- 21:15Speaker 2: if Cameron paid him less than his rate and then
- 21:17Speaker 2: put out there what his rate was, then the next
- 21:20Speaker 2: person to hire Omar, if they want, they can play
- 21:23Speaker 2: hardball with him. And granted, Omar Gooden's got a, what,
- 21:26Speaker 2: a 30-year resume around this bitch, so He probably could
- 21:29Speaker 2: stand tall and get the money he's supposed to get,
- 21:31Speaker 2: but when you put out what you paid the man,
- 21:33Speaker 2: that was the part.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I was like, eh.
- 21:39Speaker 2: That's Rick Ross 50 Cent Baby Mama sex tape land. Yeah.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Let's keep it man to man.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I'm glad that man likes me. I said after the
- 21:52Speaker 1: Kendrick Drake thing, I'm glad my ass can't rap. And
- 21:55Speaker 1: I'm glad me and Cam is cool.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I got a local dip set, man. You know they
- 22:00Speaker 2: used to put my pranks on some of they mixtapes.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I have to admit, you doing pranks, that seems
- 22:09Speaker 1: right up the particular alley.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Of those guys.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I was going to refer.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Okay. I'm trying to figure out how to say this
- 22:19Speaker 1: so it can't get chopped up and aggregated, but I
- 22:22Speaker 1: was going to say that is the particular alley of
- 22:26Speaker 1: asshole that would be theirs, but then I thought about
- 22:30Speaker 1: what an asshole alley could be. You know what, we
- 22:32Speaker 1: gonna come right back and we gonna talk about when
- 22:35Speaker 1: Roy Wood went to Scott Lane.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Read an ad or something.

- 24:00Speaker 1: Back with Roy Wood Jr. The reason I had you
- 24:02Speaker 1: on was, and I found this to be very interesting.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I was making a run over to Europe. You were
- 24:08Speaker 1: over to Europe. We were close, but not close enough
- 24:10Speaker 1: to catch up. And you had said, and another homie
- 24:13Speaker 1: we got in a group chat, that y'all was going
- 24:15Speaker 1: to be in Scotland. He said he was going to
- 24:17Speaker 1: be in Scotland. And then I knew you were going
- 24:19Speaker 1: to be in one of the lands. You know what
- 24:21Speaker 1: I'm saying? I was going to be in London. Couldn't
- 24:24Speaker 1: get it together. But then after you had decided to make,
- 24:27Speaker 1: while you was over there, black people in America found
- 24:30Speaker 1: out it was black people in Scotland?
- 24:32Speaker 2: Bro, I land on Saturday. In Edinburgh. Edinburgh. Pardon me.
- 24:42Speaker 1: That's how they say it.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Edinburgh. It's like they're worse than the people from Louisville.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I was about to say, that's the Antigua. Yeah, that's
- 24:52Speaker 1: the Antigua.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Not Antigua. Yeah, yeah. It's the same. So I land
- 24:57Speaker 2: in Edinburgh on Saturday, and it's already bubbling up that
- 25:02Speaker 2: you got one brother. His name is Twitter Starboy Fitness.
- 25:06Speaker 2: but they call them Sterling K. Broon or whatever. It's
- 25:10Speaker 2: a dude who looked like Sterling K. Brown who sounds
- 25:12Speaker 2: Scottish and is confusing Black folks because Black Americans, we
- 25:15Speaker 2: get weirded out over any type of accent. And so
- 25:19Speaker 2: when you look like me but sound different, so there's
- 25:21Speaker 2: a novelty to it. So I was over there for
- 25:25Speaker 2: a TV festival. I have my son. We have an itinerary.
- 25:29Speaker 2: We have things and activities lined up to do. And
- 25:35Speaker 2: the second day, They're viral. And I'm just thinking to myself, bro,
- 25:40Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm over here. And I think I want
- 25:45Speaker 2: to talk to one of these Negroes. I think that
- 25:50Speaker 2: would be the right thing to, because they were, because
- 25:52Speaker 2: folks in the comments were asking these folks, the Black Scots, Amelia,
- 25:56Speaker 2: excuse me, the Black Brits who live in Scotland. We'll
- 25:58Speaker 2: talk about that in a second. They were asking them
- 26:02Speaker 2: a million questions. And I was like, this might be
- 26:04Speaker 2: a fun, just why not? go talk to people. So
- 26:09Speaker 2: I make a video, throw a kite up, say, hey,
- 26:11Speaker 2: I'm here if you want to talk to me. DMs
- 26:14Speaker 2: get flipped. Now, mind you, I'm somebody who really don't
- 26:17Speaker 2: use TikTok on a regular basis. I check my TikTok
- 26:20Speaker 2: like twice a week. I'm not on it every day,
- 26:22Speaker 2: like IG and Twitter and all of that, right?
- 26:25Speaker 1: Oh, so you're an occasional crack smoker.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Not no more. That shit is good. Not no more.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I've been on TikTok every day for the last week
- 26:34Speaker 2: and a half. So... I started getting hit up by
- 26:38Speaker 2: all these different folks. And it turns out one of
- 26:40Speaker 2: them I'd already followed. So I'd start shooting DMs and
- 26:44Speaker 2: they were like, yeah. And I didn't want to just
- 26:45Speaker 2: talk to dudes. I wanted to talk to some, talk
- 26:48Speaker 2: to some women too. So I just, next thing I know,
- 26:51Speaker 2: I have an itinerary of interviews to go and do.
- 26:54Speaker 2: And my man, Starboy, he lives over in Glasgow. So
- 26:58Speaker 2: I had to take a car out that way to
- 27:02Speaker 2: go and, Interview him and then just started lining up
- 27:05Speaker 2: all these interviews, man. And then I just put them
- 27:06Speaker 2: all together into one little thing and put it out. And,
- 27:09Speaker 2: you know, I've been trying to work on some sort
- 27:10Speaker 2: of talk show project for the last two months anyway.
- 27:13Speaker 2: So this kind of fell in line with what I'm
- 27:16Speaker 2: trying to ideate. You know, as much as I love CNN,
- 27:19Speaker 2: I just don't trust media. You know, media can pivot
- 27:22Speaker 2: on you in a heartbeat. So I just want to
- 27:25Speaker 2: make sure I got a 1B situation as well. But
- 27:30Speaker 2: it was dope talking to him. I learned a lot. Also,
- 27:32Speaker 2: I was very leery about putting this stuff out, man, because,
- 27:38Speaker 2: you know, you start getting into diaspora conversations. It got
- 27:45Speaker 2: a little dicey in the comments because, you know, it
- 27:49Speaker 2: also starts this conversation about the Black American experience versus
- 27:55Speaker 2: being a first-generation immigrant natively born in a country that's
- 28:01Speaker 2: not yours. You know what I'm saying? And so I
- 28:04Speaker 2: still think there's some merit to if you are melanated
- 28:08Speaker 2: and you are born in a non-melanated place and you
- 28:11Speaker 2: are raised in a non-melanated place, there has to be
- 28:15Speaker 2: something unique to your experience. And I was curious about it.
- 28:18Speaker 2: And so that's what I went over there and just
- 28:20Speaker 2: talked to folks about. I think once you start getting into, okay,
- 28:24Speaker 2: you're from Ghana, Your parents are from Ghana, but moved
- 28:27Speaker 2: here and you were born here. Well, you need to
- 28:30Speaker 2: go back to Ghana and experience being Ghanaian. And this
- 28:33Speaker 2: Scottish stuff is not who you are. If you're 35
- 28:37Speaker 2: with two kids and a Scottish wife, there's something different
- 28:43Speaker 2: about you than someone native to Ghana that grew up
- 28:47Speaker 2: in Ghana and got five, six generations. But I do
- 28:50Speaker 2: think it was a real interesting conversation with these folks.
- 28:53Speaker 2: just about how our culture, how Black culture spreads across
- 28:58Speaker 2: the globe and the sense of identity and individuality that
- 29:02Speaker 2: you may feel in a place that foreign and the
- 29:07Speaker 2: kinship you might feel with Black Americans. And this is
- 29:10Speaker 2: the wild shit, bro, is that they get all of
- 29:14Speaker 2: the Black culture but are taught none of the Black history.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Black American, they get Black American culture, but they aren't
- 29:19Speaker 2: taught any Black American history. I'm not saying they necessarily should,
- 29:25Speaker 2: because we are not taught any of the stuff over there.
- 29:28Speaker 2: But I do find it interesting that Black American history
- 29:32Speaker 2: is suppressed in a lot of international school systems. And
- 29:36Speaker 2: I think part of that is because they don't want
- 29:37Speaker 2: people over there to see and know. what is actually
- 29:41Speaker 2: possible and what you're capable of becoming. You know, I
- 29:45Speaker 2: don't know. I think it's all unique to whatever the
- 29:49Speaker 2: level of racism is in that particular country. But I'm
- 29:52Speaker 2: happy I did it. I just didn't eat no food.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Everybody was trying to get me to do food. And
- 29:58Speaker 2: I was trying to tell Black folks in the comments,
- 30:00Speaker 2: I'm not Keith Lee, man. I'm not. In my opinion
- 30:05Speaker 2: of this food, it's not going to change your restaurant
- 30:07Speaker 2: and you're going to have a line around the door, man.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I eat like trash. You see my physique.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Brother, that's what I was about to say. You looking
- 30:18Speaker 1: at it the wrong way. You saying you see my physique,
- 30:21Speaker 1: therefore my opinion don't matter. And they are looking at
- 30:24Speaker 1: you like that man look like he know what he
- 30:25Speaker 1: talking about. Let me tell you, man, they ain't about
- 30:29Speaker 1: to let me go around. If I go over there
- 30:31Speaker 1: to Scotland, ain't nobody going to be hitting me like, yo, man,
- 30:33Speaker 1: you got to tell us what the food is like.
- 30:35Speaker 1: They ain't going to be like, yo, so did you
- 30:36Speaker 1: eat over there?
- 30:38Speaker 2: Nah. It is interesting to see how Black Americans perceive you, though,
- 30:42Speaker 2: because nobody was like, telling me to go to the
- 30:45Speaker 2: clubs and none of that. Like, ask them questions about
- 30:48Speaker 2: the Middle Passages. I'm like, God damn, dude. These are
- 30:52Speaker 2: street interviews. That's a sit-down couch question.
- 30:56Speaker 1: So I just want to say this, right? I had
- 31:00Speaker 1: not considered Black Scots, I don't have a great handle.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Like all that stuff over there that ain't England, right?
- 31:08Speaker 1: If it's not London, it's kind of all the same
- 31:10Speaker 1: to me. You know, it's.
- 31:12Speaker 2: The United Kingdom of England, Scotland.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Wales, which is a theory to me. I don't know
- 31:23Speaker 1: shit about no Wales. And then Northern Ireland. And I
- 31:27Speaker 1: guess it makes sense. It would be some Black people
- 31:29Speaker 1: in Scotland. It never dawned on me that per this
- 31:32Speaker 1: Google search, there is 65,000 Black people in Scotland. I
- 31:37Speaker 1: don't know exactly how they are distributed, but I figured
- 31:41Speaker 1: that Yes, there would be Black people in Scotland, but
- 31:44Speaker 1: they would all be dating white women, not necessarily because
- 31:47Speaker 1: they love white women, but just because by the time
- 31:49Speaker 1: you got to the 11th grade, you had dated all
- 31:51Speaker 1: the Black girls. And either you was going to be
- 31:53Speaker 1: married or you had to branch out.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Yeah, less than 100,000 Black folks in a country with
- 31:57Speaker 2: 5.5 million people total. So you probably ain't got a
- 32:00Speaker 2: lot of options. And most of the Black folks are
- 32:02Speaker 2: in the major cities, so they're not spread out in
- 32:04Speaker 2: the Highlands somewhere. That was the other thing, was the
- 32:09Speaker 2: idea of, people who know about black scots getting mad
- 32:14Speaker 2: at dumb americans for realizing that it was black scots
- 32:21Speaker 2: were actually a thing because there's i mean i think
- 32:25Speaker 2: here's the thing we really deal with on the internet
- 32:27Speaker 2: that i think is fucked up is that people who
- 32:31Speaker 2: already know something get mad at people who are just
- 32:34Speaker 2: discovering the thing that they already right and Somehow, because
- 32:39Speaker 2: I just now found out about it, rather than celebrate
- 32:42Speaker 2: the fact that I'm finally on your intellectual level, you
- 32:45Speaker 2: will shame and cuss me out and call me dumb.
- 32:49Speaker 2: When you know for a fact I wasn't taught none
- 32:52Speaker 2: of that shit. And the whole UK, Great Britain, England,
- 32:57Speaker 2: if I went on the street right now, Jordan Klepper style,
- 33:00Speaker 2: and I asked people, what is Great Britain? What is England?
- 33:04Speaker 2: And what is the UK? 80, 70% of them people
- 33:09Speaker 2: are going to think all three of them countries are
- 33:10Speaker 2: the same. I thought it for a long time. Because
- 33:14Speaker 2: you're just not taught this whole European Union. Like, maybe
- 33:19Speaker 2: you were, or maybe you were, but not everybody. Dog,
- 33:22Speaker 2: I went to Alabama, Birmingham public schools. We was too
- 33:24Speaker 2: busy learning the second verse to lift every voice and sing.
- 33:28Speaker 2: So pardon me if I thought Ireland was still in
- 33:33Speaker 2: the UK. It's not. Ireland dipped in the 1920s.
- 33:39Speaker 1: The UK to me feels like if it was a
- 33:42Speaker 1: country that was New York, Connecticut, or Rhode Island. There
- 33:49Speaker 1: is definitely one of these that is carrying the rest
- 33:55Speaker 1: of you.
- 33:56Speaker 2: But if you go there and you tell somebody from
- 34:00Speaker 2: Rhode Island that you think they're from New York, so
- 34:03Speaker 2: in college... So if I am you, to us, most Southerners,
- 34:09Speaker 2: if you lived at this time, I don't think it's
- 34:12Speaker 2: the same now, but at the time, in the eyes
- 34:15Speaker 2: of most Southerners who were just learning about the East
- 34:18Speaker 2: Coast and East Coast culture, if you lived D.C.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Or North, you were from New York.
- 34:25Speaker 2: It's all New York. You're from New York. I don't
- 34:27Speaker 2: have time to separate you into Phillies, But when you
- 34:32Speaker 2: meet somebody from Philly and you say, you New York man,
- 34:34Speaker 2: I'm tired of you New York man. Infuriated. Don't you dare.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Don't you ever call me New York. You're wearing a
- 34:43Speaker 2: bubble vest with no sleeves, big dog. New York. And
- 34:49Speaker 2: low key, some of them boys from North Carolina would
- 34:52Speaker 2: wear the high top Timbs because they thought they was DMX.
- 34:55Speaker 3: New York.
- 34:57Speaker 2: You're a New York nigga that lived down south.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Yeah, like the idea that Philly and New York, I
- 35:02Speaker 1: knew they were different places, but I didn't think they
- 35:04Speaker 1: were different things. Does that make sense?
- 35:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 35:09Speaker 1: It all seemed... And look, I ain't feel so bad
- 35:12Speaker 1: about it, because they damn sure was doing the same
- 35:15Speaker 1: thing to us.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but when you go over... Oh, my God. Birmingham
- 35:20Speaker 2: is Mississippi, is Tennessee. The only cities they had real
- 35:24Speaker 2: respect for was Miami and New Orleans in those days,
- 35:27Speaker 2: because they were still with... Atlanta wasn't fully embraced yet
- 35:32Speaker 2: by New York culture, not in the mid-90s. You couldn't
- 35:37Speaker 2: wrap your head around the fact that Atlanta was a
- 35:39Speaker 2: culturally different place, and then they finally had to accept it.
- 35:43Speaker 2: The thing I really learned from over there, though, is
- 35:45Speaker 2: that there's such a cultural difference, much like the East Coast,
- 35:49Speaker 2: to all of those places over there, that there is
- 35:52Speaker 2: something interesting about being melanated over there. And I'm using
- 35:58Speaker 2: the word melanated specifically because I also discovered on this
- 36:03Speaker 2: journey that I don't think as Black folks across the globe,
- 36:10Speaker 2: I don't think we have a cohesive agreement on what
- 36:14Speaker 2: Blackness is. And I think that my conversations with some
- 36:20Speaker 2: of these Scottish people were interpreted as me trying to
- 36:23Speaker 2: process them solely based on black and comparing them to
- 36:28Speaker 2: black Americans but it's just more of a hey it's
- 36:31Speaker 2: not a lot of you over here what's it like
- 36:33Speaker 2: for you here and just starting from that question and
- 36:38Speaker 2: just letting the conversation go where it may.
- 36:42Speaker 1: They do understand that they hilarious objectively speaking right like
- 36:49Speaker 1: like I was in London and I met a black
- 36:51Speaker 1: woman and she sounded just like me Jagger you understand
- 36:54Speaker 1: what I'm saying like I guess that ain't funny over there,
- 36:57Speaker 1: but that is a hoot in this house.
- 37:00Speaker 2: As a Southerner who's been asked by Northerners to repeat
- 37:04Speaker 2: words so they can laugh at me, I try not
- 37:08Speaker 2: to just chuckle at people.
- 37:11Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, no. We talk about two
- 37:12Speaker 1: different things, though. We talk about two different things, though.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Because them Northerners are judging you, right? What I am
- 37:21Speaker 1: speaking to is the phenomenon of cognitive dissonance. which is
- 37:24Speaker 1: something completely different, right? Like what I don't have the
- 37:28Speaker 1: sophisticated ear for as it stands right now is what
- 37:32Speaker 1: is the English version of a black scent? Again, I
- 37:35Speaker 1: assume that Mick Jagger and them did their best, but
- 37:37Speaker 1: when they try to sound like black people, they sound
- 37:39Speaker 1: like Americans. I be listening to that England rap and
- 37:42Speaker 1: I don't know what I'm supposed to do with that,
- 37:43Speaker 1: but it don't, look, all I know is that when
- 37:50Speaker 1: that black man started sounding like, I can't even say
- 37:55Speaker 1: Roddy Roddy Piper because he ain't even really Scotch. You
- 37:57Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? But when that black man sounded
- 38:00Speaker 1: like he had a kilt on, you have to understand, brother,
- 38:04Speaker 1: that's a, it's kind of like, you haven't met.
- 38:09Speaker 2: An Asian from Louisiana. It's jarring for a minute. Oh, bro,
- 38:13Speaker 2: we had so many Asians with Birmingham accents.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Yes.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Growing up.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Oh, that's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying. Or
- 38:23Speaker 1: my favorite phenomenon, the Chinese Jamaican.
- 38:27Speaker 2: I still have not seen this. People keep talking about this.
- 38:29Speaker 2: There was also some black Russians that were coming up
- 38:31Speaker 2: in the TikTok comments. I might go to, they were
- 38:34Speaker 2: telling me to go to Russia. I was like, I'll
- 38:35Speaker 2: talk to the black Italians or something like that. Like
- 38:38Speaker 2: if you're a native.
- 38:38Speaker 1: I ain't going to Russia. I ain't going to Russia.
- 38:40Speaker 2: The block hot right now.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Look, look, shout out to Paul. Shout
- 38:44Speaker 1: out to Paul Robeson. Don't get me wrong, but I
- 38:47Speaker 1: ain't going.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Cause I know y'all ain't coming to get me.
- 38:50Speaker 1: No, not that I know you're not going to get me.
- 38:52Speaker 2: And she's good at basketball. I don't do shit.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Yeah, last thing I need is Putin finding out that
- 38:57Speaker 1: I'm trying to get all the black people together. They
- 39:00Speaker 1: might think it's the revolution.
- 39:04Speaker 2: You need to go talk to the black people in Moscow.
- 39:06Speaker 2: You go.
- 39:08Speaker 1: No, no, not only that. Clearly, they don't want to
- 39:10Speaker 1: talk to me. Like, I still feel like you go
- 39:13Speaker 1: to Moscow because you want to hang out with the
- 39:15Speaker 1: other black people.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I mean, if you're black and born in Moscow, that's
- 39:19Speaker 2: not your fault. That's just where you are. Them your people,
- 39:21Speaker 2: that's your life.
- 39:21Speaker 1: What I'm saying, somebody got you there in the first
- 39:24Speaker 1: place is what I'm saying.
- 39:25Speaker 2: That's all I'm... Nigga, meet me in Brussels. Yes. I'm
- 39:30Speaker 2: not going to Moscow. No. That's all I'm saying. But
- 39:36Speaker 2: the other interesting thing is that you learn the differences
- 39:38Speaker 2: in the accents as well. There is a difference to
- 39:42Speaker 2: the Scottish accent. To the naked ear, if you haven't
- 39:45Speaker 2: heard either enough, but being over there for just a week,
- 39:49Speaker 2: That Scottish accent versus the English, like a London accent.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I'm not even talking about the countryside of England or whatever.
- 39:57Speaker 2: I feel like British, oh, that's the other thing. Because
- 40:03Speaker 2: it's all Great Britain, technically you're all Black Brits, whether
- 40:07Speaker 2: you're in Wales, Northern Ireland, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 40:12Speaker 2: But then within that, you're Scottish. Does that make sense?
- 40:16Speaker 2: So the way we've been using Black Brits as Americans
- 40:20Speaker 2: is technically wrong because we associate Black Brit to just England.
- 40:25Speaker 2: More specifically, just London. Because we also thought Great Britain
- 40:30Speaker 2: was fucking England because that's what you told us in
- 40:33Speaker 2: the Olympics. You'd have an athlete with Great Britain on
- 40:37Speaker 2: their chest. And we go, okay, well, that must be,
- 40:41Speaker 2: it's like Russia versus USSR. Okay, your Olympic name is
- 40:46Speaker 2: a different name from your slang name. Yes.
- 40:50Speaker 1: And by the way, so that people understand the difference.
- 40:52Speaker 1: It's important. Great Britain is that island, right? That island
- 40:57Speaker 1: is Great Britain. So Northern Ireland is in the United Kingdom,
- 41:03Speaker 1: but it is not British because it is on Ireland,
- 41:07Speaker 1: the island of Ireland, And it's a lot of beef
- 41:10Speaker 1: going on over there.
- 41:11Speaker 2: See, and that's where I just check out. Because I'm
- 41:14Speaker 2: just like, y'all all from over there. It's like when
- 41:16Speaker 2: you get into like.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Hawaiians and Samoans.
- 41:20Speaker 1: They do that.
- 41:21Speaker 2: They do that.
- 41:22Speaker 1: They do that.
- 41:24Speaker 2: When am I going to have time during the day
- 41:26Speaker 2: to learn all of this shit that y'all are trying to.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Get me to learn? I'm saying this, brother. You ain't
- 41:31Speaker 1: got to learn it. You know what I'm saying? But,
- 41:35Speaker 1: you know, I personally... I'm not trying to scrap it
- 41:38Speaker 1: out with the Samoans just because I'm lazy, right? Like,
- 41:40Speaker 1: I don't know who feels exactly what at what point.
- 41:45Speaker 2: I respect all of it, but I have not taken
- 41:47Speaker 2: the proper time that I should to understand the nuanced
- 41:51Speaker 2: differences between country and culture when it comes to anything culture. Hawaiian, Polynesian, Samoan.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Polynesian, Polynesian, Polynesian, right there.
- 42:01Speaker 2: There we go. I don't even know if that's the
- 42:03Speaker 2: right word. I might be using the wrong word right now.
- 42:05Speaker 2: You don't know.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Look, Polynesian is the catch-all that works, even though I
- 42:11Speaker 1: be looking at a lot of them boys' hair, and
- 42:14Speaker 1: I know that if they grew up anywhere around me,
- 42:16Speaker 1: they wouldn't be calling them no Polynesians. You need to do.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Polynesian on to talk about this shit. I'm not finna
- 42:23Speaker 2: get into it. with them Polynesians, because they'll show up
- 42:26Speaker 2: and hock a dance at my live show.
- 42:29Speaker 1: CCC, now you're making it worse.
- 42:31Speaker 2: You can't perform through when that dance is loud.
- 42:36Speaker 1: That look on their face, when they get to doing that,
- 42:40Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, man, they be talking about scaring the girls.
- 42:43Speaker 1: The girls are scaring me.
- 42:46Speaker 2: But yeah, it was interesting in just learning, all right,
- 42:50Speaker 2: there's much more to be learned about the culture of being,
- 42:55Speaker 2: you know, we are the global majority. I also try
- 42:58Speaker 2: to be very careful about that minority word. It's just,
- 43:01Speaker 2: you're a minority.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't use it.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Globally, we're number one. Rah, rah, rah. But I learned
- 43:08Speaker 2: a lot. I'm going to do it again. I'm supposed
- 43:11Speaker 2: to go to, I got my book right here. I'm
- 43:14Speaker 2: supposed to go to London in December. The show dates
- 43:19Speaker 2: aren't public yet. And then I'm supposed to go to Netherlands.
- 43:24Speaker 2: That should be interesting, too.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I just got back from both of those.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Yeah, but I heard that Scottish accent. You know what
- 43:31Speaker 2: it is? The Scottish accent hits... The ones I heard
- 43:36Speaker 2: hit them front syllables harder. Uh-huh. Whereas the British accent
- 43:41Speaker 2: is very soft. Yes. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 43:44Speaker 1: No, no, no. They are not the same.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Shador Sanders is the third-string quarterback.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Yes, that is it. But now you sounded like a
- 43:53Speaker 1: Scottish Nigerian right there. But it is a very important
- 43:57Speaker 1: thing that the British accent in different dialects, it's almost
- 44:01Speaker 1: like speaking French in that you take off the last consonant. Right?
- 44:06Speaker 1: It's better to do the thing you said you were going.
- 44:10Speaker 1: You know, like you leave off that joint. Like I
- 44:13Speaker 1: was peeping a lot of that game when I was
- 44:16Speaker 1: over there on that. I want to get one thing
- 44:18Speaker 1: because I know you got to go in a second,
- 44:19Speaker 1: but I need to ask this before we go. And honestly,
- 44:22Speaker 1: I may not be able to because it could go
- 44:24Speaker 1: so far. I was going to ask you about Shadour Sanders.
- 44:27Speaker 1: You and I agree on a very important point, which
- 44:29Speaker 1: is we try to ascribe good decision making to the
- 44:32Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns. However, I feel like our people are in
- 44:35Speaker 1: full on conspiracy mode, which is putting me in many
- 44:39Speaker 1: cases in the position of being the person, not so
- 44:42Speaker 1: much defending the white people, but saying I don't necessarily
- 44:46Speaker 1: think they that bad. And I don't like how this
- 44:48Speaker 1: neighborhood feels.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I don't think that they are putting Shador in the
- 44:54Speaker 2: best possible situations to show what he can do, but
- 44:59Speaker 2: also it is the Browns. Deshaun Watson is guaranteed every penny.
- 45:06Speaker 2: These are the Browns. They had Julio Jones, and now
- 45:09Speaker 2: they don't. These are the Browns, bro. Like, it... It's
- 45:18Speaker 2: a history of bad decisions as a franchise. And so
- 45:22Speaker 2: I just think this is just another log on the
- 45:25Speaker 2: dysfunctional fire of that organization. I think that ultimately, you know,
- 45:33Speaker 2: what happens when Deshaun Watson comes back? That's the other
- 45:37Speaker 2: question that nobody's talking about. Was it 230 mil guarantee? Like,
- 45:42Speaker 2: does he suit up again? I just hope you get
- 45:49Speaker 2: some garbage time situations early in the season where Shador
- 45:52Speaker 2: can get in and get some reps, but he's the
- 45:54Speaker 2: third stringer. They're not going to give him, you're not
- 45:56Speaker 2: going to get a lot of reps. Isn't there a rule,
- 45:58Speaker 2: like once the third stringer's in, you can't even go
- 45:59Speaker 2: back to the other?
- 46:01Speaker 1: That's if you are like the emergency quarterback, but you are. Look, man,
- 46:06Speaker 1: I have seen this point made, and I think that
- 46:09Speaker 1: this is an important one, and I'm curious your thoughts.
- 46:13Speaker 1: The number one pick in the draft this year was
- 46:15Speaker 1: a black dude who started off as a zero-star recruit,
- 46:19Speaker 1: went to incarnate word, and then took his black ass
- 46:23Speaker 1: to Washington State before getting to Miami, making himself the
- 46:27Speaker 1: number one overall pick, and he looks pretty good. And
- 46:31Speaker 1: people who could easily be supporting him in that, which
- 46:34Speaker 1: is an actual sports story, are instead leaning on the
- 46:37Speaker 1: reality television element that is Shador Sanders. And that is
- 46:41Speaker 1: not Shador's fault, But I do think it is a
- 46:44Speaker 1: bad look for people who say that they are sports
- 46:46Speaker 1: fans to not latch on. When Nike put the commercial out,
- 46:51Speaker 1: the advertisement out after the first preseason game, I'm like,
- 46:53Speaker 1: come on, baby. We're not even talking about sports no more.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's culture. That's selling ads. That's what
- 47:00Speaker 2: Nike's going to do.
- 47:02Speaker 1: But Nike always sold winners. You ain't going to find
- 47:05Speaker 1: too many examples of Nike's doing commercials for a dude
- 47:07Speaker 1: that kind of sort of might not make the team.
- 47:09Speaker 2: But Shador is selling perseverance. So in spite of falling
- 47:13Speaker 2: to the fifth pick.
- 47:14Speaker 1: What is he persevered?
- 47:15Speaker 2: Persevered the fuck shit of falling all the way down
- 47:17Speaker 2: to the fifth pick. Fifth round when y'all said I
- 47:20Speaker 2: should have been going higher.
- 47:22Speaker 1: That's what we call perseverance now.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Is that not the league having a thumb on your
- 47:27Speaker 2: neck just a little bit? So he's not swimming upstream
- 47:32Speaker 2: at all? Shadur ain't swimming upstream at all?
- 47:35Speaker 1: That does not count as swimming upstream. Perseverance, is he
- 47:41Speaker 1: doing it with a torn labrum? No, that is not swimming.
- 47:46Speaker 1: The zero-star recruit, that boy swam upstream. His daddy didn't
- 47:50Speaker 1: coach the team.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Shadur put up numbers. Now, wait a minute. Now, we're
- 47:55Speaker 2: not going to act like Shadur was throwing 48 picks.
- 47:58Speaker 1: No, I'm not acting like he.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Put up 48 picks. What was his win percentage in Colorado?
- 48:01Speaker 2: It was like 600%, right?
- 48:03Speaker 1: It wasn't terrible. I'm just saying.
- 48:06Speaker 2: He wasn't Tim Tebow.
- 48:07Speaker 1: What he did was not swim upstream. That's all I'm saying.
- 48:12Speaker 2: I'm saying that this man has taken a few licks
- 48:15Speaker 2: that were probably undeserved. I don't know if it's enough
- 48:19Speaker 2: to wholly go racism. I think it's definitely... You trying
- 48:24Speaker 2: to teach the, well, no, that is racism because it'd
- 48:26Speaker 2: be black folks.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Let me ask you, let me ask you a question.
- 48:29Speaker 2: But this isn't go march in the street, make a
- 48:32Speaker 2: sign in front of the Brown stadium. I'm not going
- 48:35Speaker 2: to put on a blue vest like D-Ray. Go down
- 48:40Speaker 2: to Cleveland.
- 48:43Speaker 1: You telling me that boy is not looking like a
- 48:44Speaker 1: fifth round pick because he's looking like a fifth round pick.
- 48:48Speaker 2: I wouldn't know because they don't play him enough, Bomani.
- 48:51Speaker 2: So I don't have enough information.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Which is another way of saying he looked like a
- 48:55Speaker 1: fifth-round pick.
- 48:57Speaker 2: He looked like a fifth-round pick when he threw them
- 48:59Speaker 2: two touchdowns. When he threw them two touchdowns, y'all were like, oh, hmm, hmm. Well,
- 49:04Speaker 2: let's see what he does next week. Let's see what
- 49:08Speaker 2: he does. How many other fifth-round picks was y'all going, hmm,
- 49:12Speaker 2: can't wait to see what happens next week? It's because
- 49:15Speaker 2: you believe something's there. Now, he's got to have an
- 49:19Speaker 2: opportunity to prove or disprove it. I'm just saying he
- 49:22Speaker 2: hasn't been given that yet. And part of why he
- 49:24Speaker 2: hasn't been given it is because it's the Browns. And
- 49:28Speaker 2: you have to, that slots the racism-tivity of it back
- 49:32Speaker 2: to the middle for me.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Good to hear that. Oh, Shador out here playing with
- 49:38Speaker 1: one arm while everybody else got two. I'm not saying
- 49:42Speaker 1: he's Rudy.
- 49:46Speaker 2: But when does he get a chance now? Like, okay,
- 49:49Speaker 2: you the Browns, you the coach now. So when does
- 49:53Speaker 2: Shador get, because now he's screwed. You're the third stringer.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Well, he just moved up on the draft, the depth
- 50:01Speaker 1: chart on Tuesday because the Browns traded Kenny Pickett. So now,
- 50:05Speaker 1: It's only three left. And so what that means is
- 50:07Speaker 1: Joe Flacco, Dylan Gabriel, and Shador. Joe Flacco going to
- 50:10Speaker 1: start the season. His old ass, if he don't break
- 50:12Speaker 1: his hip, is just going to be sorry. And then
- 50:14Speaker 1: Dylan Gabriel going to move up. And then at some point,
- 50:17Speaker 1: Shador going to get his opportunity. Everybody need to realize that.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Don't you worry. He going to get his chance for
- 50:21Speaker 1: the exact reason you said, because it's the Browns and
- 50:23Speaker 1: they sorry.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Shador is going to come in. What's the O-line situation
- 50:29Speaker 2: in Cleveland? That's also another question. Because sometimes y'all don't
- 50:33Speaker 2: be judging folks you know unfairly off of.
- 50:36Speaker 1: That too this is this is this is what everybody and.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Then y'all gonna say we're making excuses.
- 50:41Speaker 1: For shidua because you are um and this is the
- 50:45Speaker 1: key why.
- 50:46Speaker 2: Do we make that excuse for tour tour was getting
- 50:49Speaker 2: his ass knocked out yeah but no that old line
- 50:54Speaker 2: was not protecting that boy that was one of the
- 50:55Speaker 2: first things they had to start drafting up Do we
- 50:59Speaker 2: get to make that excuse for Shador down.
- 51:00Speaker 1: The road when he gets sacked? This is a football
- 51:03Speaker 1: adage to take for you forever, and the statistics bear
- 51:07Speaker 1: this out. This is very important. Sacks are a quarterback stack.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Getting the ball out is the responsibility of the quarterback.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Them sacks that boy was taking over the weekend, those
- 51:17Speaker 1: were not the fault of the offensive line. They wasn't good.
- 51:20Speaker 1: He wasn't no better than them. I think it's the
- 51:22Speaker 1: point that people are not catching. But they're like, he's
- 51:24Speaker 1: not getting out there with the good offensive line. The
- 51:26Speaker 1: offensive line is like, we ain't out there with the
- 51:27Speaker 1: good quarterback. What you got now?
- 51:30Speaker 2: We'll never know. If all that boy got is a
- 51:34Speaker 2: two Mississippi to throw the ball every time, then all
- 51:37Speaker 2: we're doing is running short, quick release routes.
- 51:39Speaker 1: That's fine.
- 51:40Speaker 2: When does he get a five Mississippi, bro?
- 51:42Speaker 1: Then throw those. The problem is he doesn't throw those.
- 51:45Speaker 1: If all you got is two steps and throw, it's
- 51:47Speaker 1: two steps and throw.
- 51:48Speaker 2: Man, Shadoo was eight for nine with 22 yards. That
- 51:52Speaker 2: ain't enough to get it done in this league. I
- 51:56Speaker 2: tell you that much.
- 51:57Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh.
- 51:57Speaker 2: That's all they'll say.
- 51:58Speaker 1: I did not expect. I didn't expect that the homie
- 52:01Speaker 1: was going to be one of them. I thought he
- 52:03Speaker 1: was going to be laughing at people like you.
- 52:05Speaker 2: I'm saying that we are in an endless cycle. We
- 52:10Speaker 2: will never be able to make an excuse for Shador.
- 52:14Speaker 2: It has to be Bugs Bunny, one versus 11, throw
- 52:17Speaker 2: 500 yards for four TDs, and then folks will go maybe.
- 52:21Speaker 2: I'm saying he has not had an opportunity to suck
- 52:26Speaker 2: long enough, consistently enough, for you to have the stance
- 52:30Speaker 2: that you have. That's what I'm saying. Give him more
- 52:33Speaker 2: time to be trash. If he's that trash, it'll be
- 52:36Speaker 2: revealed later. But he won't get that time because it's
- 52:41Speaker 2: the Browns.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I'm telling you, because it's the Browns, he will get
- 52:45Speaker 1: that chance because everybody else is whack. So they're going
- 52:48Speaker 1: to cycle through all of them dudes. That's what I
- 52:50Speaker 1: keep trying to say. Nobody's good enough to keep the job.
- 52:52Speaker 1: They're going to cycle through. He's going to get out there.
- 52:56Speaker 1: And I wish him the best when he do. I
- 52:58Speaker 1: just don't think that we're doing no favors to this
- 53:00Speaker 1: dude by acting like the world is up against him.
- 53:03Speaker 2: I agree with that. Because when you rally around him,
- 53:07Speaker 2: then you're giving white folks in white America something to
- 53:10Speaker 2: push back against, and then it creates more tension. It
- 53:13Speaker 2: just makes his life a little bit more hard. I
- 53:15Speaker 2: wish we could just ease back and let the boy
- 53:17Speaker 2: play football. But, you know.
- 53:20Speaker 1: I'm trying to help everybody out right now. Pace yourselves, brother.
- 53:23Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. Everybody pace themselves. You're right. Don't
- 53:26Speaker 1: go out in front of the Browns facility just yet.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Especially not in these times, brother, because it'll be some
- 53:30Speaker 1: counter forces that show up now. Good gracious. Y'all going
- 53:34Speaker 1: to go out there and ice pull up.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Hey, not everybody's afraid of ice. I'm going to just
- 53:40Speaker 2: say that.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I mean, not if you saw that picture of Superman
- 53:48Speaker 1: doing the ice obstacle course.
- 53:50Speaker 2: I ain't fooling with ice. I know they're coming for
- 53:52Speaker 2: black people eventually. Buy me a military uniform. I'm going
- 53:56Speaker 2: to start doing it again. It's just dressed like a military.
- 53:59Speaker 2: You won't even bother me.
- 54:01Speaker 1: Hey, let me tell you what black people are worried about, Ice.
- 54:04Speaker 1: It is the native African population of Harlem, USA, brother.
- 54:09Speaker 1: They'll be out there on 116th Street like they used to. No, sir.
- 54:15Speaker 1: Somebody put the word out in French. Y'all need to
- 54:18Speaker 1: lay low.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Y'all need to chill. We'll see what you're doing, man.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Let's circle back on this round week seven.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I think he's going to get his chance to play.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I think he will. And then we're going to go
- 54:32Speaker 1: from there. And while you say that he has not
- 54:36Speaker 1: been given excuses, that's amazing because I sure see so
- 54:39Speaker 1: many people making them. They are in mass production. They
- 54:41Speaker 1: are rolling off that assembly line quick and fast. But again,
- 54:45Speaker 1: it is not optimal circumstances for anybody.
- 54:49Speaker 2: I can't throw if you can't block. That's all I'm saying.
- 54:54Speaker 1: But the job of the quarterback... is to get the
- 54:56Speaker 1: ball out your hand.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Well, then we need to create a stat then, damn it.
- 55:00Speaker 2: We need to create a stat for when you don't
- 55:02Speaker 2: do the block, when you miss the block. Roy, Roy, Roy.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Whatever the opposite of a pancake is.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Roy, go look at the clock. Ain't nobody holding the
- 55:10Speaker 1: ball longer than him. It was the same as in
- 55:12Speaker 1: college and the same happened in the preseason. All I'm
- 55:14Speaker 1: saying is somebody blocking for you to hold the ball
- 55:16Speaker 1: that long.
- 55:21Speaker 2: I never thought this would be the topic that we would.
- 55:24Speaker 1: I know.
- 55:25Speaker 2: I know.
- 55:25Speaker 1: I know. I know. I know.
- 55:27Speaker 2: I know.
- 55:27Speaker 1: I thought more of you, too. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 55:32Speaker 1: you got me out here. Now, I was I was
- 55:34Speaker 1: trying to ruminate with you and be like, yo, man,
- 55:37Speaker 1: I just got an opinion. And the next thing you know,
- 55:39Speaker 1: you against the black people. And now people act like
- 55:42Speaker 1: you some kind of sellout. And you were like, yes, sellout.
- 55:45Speaker 2: That's right.
- 55:46Speaker 1: I bet it is tough. It ain't tough over here.
- 55:50Speaker 1: Me and the homies is over here playing dominoes, getting
- 55:53Speaker 1: ready for Shador next game, while you over there playing backgammon.
- 55:57Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 55:58Speaker 2: Damn shame. Damn shame, man.
- 56:02Speaker 1: It's Roy Wood Jr. I appreciate you, man. I appreciate you. Yeah, man.
- 56:09Speaker 1: I still got you. You still got me. So defend
- 56:11Speaker 1: me when you go back to the meeting and they
- 56:14Speaker 1: start asking them questions about me. You go back and
- 56:16Speaker 1: let them know I'm still down. I'm my own man.
- 56:20Speaker 2: That's the first thing I'm going to ask them black
- 56:21Speaker 2: Russians about when I get over there is whether or
- 56:25Speaker 2: not they like you.
- 56:29Speaker 1: That is what we can do. All right, ladies and gentlemen,
