- 4:32Speaker 3: Free Tag. The Huskers are Dancing. March sixteenth. We are
- 4:37Speaker 3: two days away from taking over Oklahoma City PBA South
- 4:44Speaker 3: Huskers draw four seed and we'll face the thirteen seed
- 4:49Speaker 3: Troy Trojans in the Big Dance.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Let the madness begin. Boys, here we go. That's all
- 4:59Speaker 4: were waiting for onto this half marathon on the game.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Thanks for reminding me, that's right.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I really forget about that.
- 5:08Speaker 3: The bet is if the Huskers won a tournament game
- 5:12Speaker 3: entering this year. Actually, I think we made the bet
- 5:14Speaker 3: after the BYU exhibition game. Officially, Dak, if the Huskers
- 5:20Speaker 3: win a tournament game that I have to run a
- 5:22Speaker 3: half marathon. If the Huskers don't, Dak has to right
- 5:25Speaker 3: now with us being favored to win, it's looking like
- 5:30Speaker 3: I may be doing that. But that is the line.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Are you doing the Havesie or are you doing the
- 5:36Speaker 2: Lincoln Half?
- 5:37Speaker 3: What will be this spring?
- 5:39Speaker 1: No?
- 5:39Speaker 3: I don't want to go do it somewhere else?
- 5:41Speaker 2: So oh okay, you can go on the Road Road podcast.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Make Dak travel somewhere. Watch.
- 5:49Speaker 12: Who would have thought you have a half marathon on
- 5:51Speaker 12: Troy money line. That's a hell of a bet, hunter,
- 5:54Speaker 12: that's great.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, do we know all where all of our away
- 5:59Speaker 2: games aren't? Next year we find a half marathon in
- 6:02Speaker 2: the same town as.
- 6:03Speaker 3: There we go. I like that idea.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Sue falls, Sue falls.
- 6:11Speaker 2: And Michigan State September twenty sixth, Indiana, October tenth, Orgon
- 6:21Speaker 2: where I'm.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Thinking about going, So that may happen. But yeah, that's
- 6:26Speaker 3: that's what's on the line. From a betting perspective.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Here a lot to get through.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Since the last time we've been on it's been another
- 6:36Speaker 3: few weeks. I believe we last had a podcast after
- 6:40Speaker 3: Iowa storm the Court in Iowa City, and since then
- 6:47Speaker 3: things have been I don't want to say okay eh,
- 6:53Speaker 3: but they have. They haven't been great, but they haven't
- 6:55Speaker 3: been horrible.
- 6:57Speaker 5: No, we.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Maybe come down to earth a little bit as far
- 7:02Speaker 3: as the twenty and oh start, and you know, even
- 7:06Speaker 3: getting up to that one seed line, I think we
- 7:09Speaker 3: were pretty much locking ourselves into a three seed there
- 7:12Speaker 3: for a while, and then after losing to Purdue in
- 7:17Speaker 3: the Big Ten tournament, we are now a four seed
- 7:21Speaker 3: in the tournament, which you know, may have worked better
- 7:24Speaker 3: for us with the matchup that we got against Troy.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I think you can argue, you know, just stylistically and
- 7:31Speaker 3: who we're playing, whether it's better to be a three
- 7:35Speaker 3: or a four seed there, but we didn't bounce back
- 7:38Speaker 3: beat Iowa at home in overtime, almost blew that game
- 7:42Speaker 3: away there on March eighth, and then the twenty point
- 7:47Speaker 3: lost to UCLA, but also a fifteen point win against
- 7:51Speaker 3: usc out there, and then taking care of business against
- 7:54Speaker 3: Maryland and Penn State. I mean, are you guys concerned
- 7:58Speaker 3: at all with how our team is looking? Just from
- 8:03Speaker 3: an eye test standpoint? Right? Obviously we can get into
- 8:06Speaker 3: details and specifics, but just from an eye test, are
- 8:10Speaker 3: you concerned with how the season ended?
- 8:13Speaker 2: It's tough to shake the Purdue loss and the Big
- 8:15Speaker 2: Ten tournament that was probably the ugliest game we've played
- 8:18Speaker 2: all year. I didn't, Now, admittedly I did not stay
- 8:21Speaker 2: up and watch the whole UCLA game. It started at
- 8:23Speaker 2: ten to twenty at night. I watched the first ten
- 8:26Speaker 2: minutes and I was like, I am not.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Stayed up for this. There's no way I've stayed up
- 8:30Speaker 3: for it. I wish I didn't.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I would. I'd be lying if
- 8:37Speaker 2: I didn't say it wasn't concerned. I mean, we've lost
- 8:39Speaker 2: six of our last twelve, right for five hundred. Now
- 8:42Speaker 2: you look at it, it's Purdue twice who was you
- 8:44Speaker 2: know again, preseason rank number one carved up the Big
- 8:47Speaker 2: Ten and the Big Ten tournament, so you know, there
- 8:51Speaker 2: were Big Ten champions. Ucla got really hot at the end.
- 8:54Speaker 2: They also were surprisedly doing well. And then Michigan and
- 8:58Speaker 2: Illinois and you know, like the team related to their
- 9:00Speaker 2: bad teams that we weren't outside of the Ucla loss,
- 9:06Speaker 2: and then Purdue, we again were getting killed. So I
- 9:10Speaker 2: think I'm fine, but I would be lying if I
- 9:13Speaker 2: said I was totally comfortable with where we're at.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm.
- 9:19Speaker 12: I'm definitely not like freaking out over it, because I
- 9:21Speaker 12: think Purdue is just at the oppolute worst matchup Nebraska
- 9:24Speaker 12: could have. I they just, especially Brainsmith, he just dissected
- 9:29Speaker 12: the Nebraska defens the whole days.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And then when you have bigs and two incredible you know,
- 9:35Speaker 2: not incredible, but two really good guards, it's tough.
- 9:39Speaker 12: I think they truly are probably the worst matchup in
- 9:41Speaker 12: the whole nation for Nebraska Purdue. So I'm not too
- 9:43Speaker 12: worried about that, just because those big guys. But but
- 9:47Speaker 12: then the Iowa game, I thought they looked great that
- 9:50Speaker 12: whole game until the end there that when they blew
- 9:52Speaker 12: that lead, they're like, oh shit, we are done. This
- 9:55Speaker 12: is season over here. But coming out of that, I
- 9:58Speaker 12: guess coming out the Wayne, I'm not I'm not too
- 10:02Speaker 12: worried about that. You see a game I say, going
- 10:03Speaker 12: into La Trip, You're gonna lose one of those two
- 10:06Speaker 12: and I'd be happy. So it's it's definitely how you
- 10:09Speaker 12: won end the year. But I guess I guess to
- 10:13Speaker 12: come out with the four seed, you gotta be happy.
- 10:15Speaker 12: But it's definitely now how you want to go on
- 10:18Speaker 12: the tournament.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Austin, to your point on the teams
- 10:22Speaker 3: we've lost to, I mean, you can definitely look at
- 10:24Speaker 3: that angle from an optimistic standpoint and say, yeah, you know,
- 10:28Speaker 3: these teams are better, we just hadn't quite got to
- 10:31Speaker 3: them yet in our schedule. We actually beat a couple
- 10:33Speaker 3: of them early on, Wisconsin for example, killed them early
- 10:37Speaker 3: on in the year before they got hot, and then
- 10:38Speaker 3: got Illinois on the road. So you can just argue
- 10:41Speaker 3: that that's part of it.
- 10:42Speaker 2: And that's part of the ten Three of the five
- 10:44Speaker 2: teams could be in the sweet sixteen.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Correct the flip side of that, and this is maybe
- 10:49Speaker 3: the concern of how the seasons ended is that you
- 10:53Speaker 3: wonder if teams have figured out how to I'm gonna
- 10:57Speaker 3: go both sides of the ball first offensively, have they
- 11:00Speaker 3: figured out how to defend us and and really take
- 11:03Speaker 3: away what we're trying to do and what of our
- 11:06Speaker 3: adjustments and our tweaks have been to our system and
- 11:10Speaker 3: our sets that we're doing. You know, specifically when I
- 11:13Speaker 3: when we went to Iowa City, I mean Iowa locked
- 11:17Speaker 3: us down and I mean really just physical with us,
- 11:21Speaker 3: did a good job of getting us off the line.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Sandford could ever get going. We know, mass has not
- 11:26Speaker 3: been shooting it great. Mars Lawrence has been like, is
- 11:32Speaker 3: that a product of these players not playing as good
- 11:35Speaker 3: in the system or is it just a product that
- 11:37Speaker 3: that we're playing teams that are probably a little bit
- 11:39Speaker 3: better than us. You know a little bit of both.
- 11:44Speaker 3: And you could argue both sides of it, and and
- 11:48Speaker 3: you can make it a concern if you want to
- 11:50Speaker 3: make it a concern, or you can say nope, like
- 11:52Speaker 3: we're four seed and and we're gonna go into the
- 11:55Speaker 3: tournament with the team that we've had all a year,
- 11:56Speaker 3: and we like our chances against Troy. So I do
- 12:00Speaker 3: think that's when you hear people say, ah, I don't know,
- 12:03Speaker 3: we've been in kind of a slump. Yeah, Like I
- 12:05Speaker 3: do think teams have figured us out on that side
- 12:07Speaker 3: of the ball, on the flip side, our defense and
- 12:12Speaker 3: the scheme that Nate Lenser runs and the force and
- 12:16Speaker 3: trap baseline. You know, I'll argue, like you guys said,
- 12:19Speaker 3: we're not good against posts. Actually we are. We do
- 12:21Speaker 3: very well against no players, but when they rebound and
- 12:27Speaker 3: athleticism is what beeps us. So like we do defend
- 12:31Speaker 3: low post players well. And the scheme that we do
- 12:36Speaker 3: has been exploited a little bit here and there, but
- 12:40Speaker 3: there's not a one size fit fits all for that.
- 12:42Speaker 3: And I do think that our scheme is hard to
- 12:46Speaker 3: prepare for too when you're playing in a tournament setting
- 12:48Speaker 3: like this too, So like I do think that works
- 12:51Speaker 3: to our advantage. I just think it's a it's a
- 12:54Speaker 3: little bit of product. Like we're all on film, right,
- 12:56Speaker 3: everything's out there. I think we are a team that
- 12:59Speaker 3: does and have a lot of margin for error, and
- 13:02Speaker 3: if shots aren't going down as much as they were,
- 13:04Speaker 3: or they're getting contested a little more, or you know,
- 13:08Speaker 3: we're we're missing one rotation or one offensive rebound, you know,
- 13:12Speaker 3: offensive rebounding has been a little bit of a bugaboo
- 13:15Speaker 3: for us in the last few games. Like those things
- 13:19Speaker 3: can cost you obviously games here late in the year,
- 13:23Speaker 3: but but also a win in the tournament. So I
- 13:26Speaker 3: do think there's reason to be concerned. I we'll talk
- 13:30Speaker 3: about Troy here in a second. Uh, there's some things
- 13:33Speaker 3: that you know, they have shown this year that they
- 13:35Speaker 3: are better at than others too, So that's I don't know,
- 13:39Speaker 3: that's where my head's that going into the tournament is like,
- 13:42Speaker 3: I'm concerned, but I also do believe in what we're
- 13:45Speaker 3: trying to do on both ends and trust the coaches
- 13:48Speaker 3: are equipped to handle you know, what we're going to get,
- 13:53Speaker 3: especially this first round game against Troy.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Right, I'd say on the optimistic side, you know, with
- 14:01Speaker 2: the yes we are on film, but now we're playing
- 14:04Speaker 2: teams that aren't in the Big Ten and they won't
- 14:06Speaker 2: have a week to prepare. You know, you're gonna go in,
- 14:09Speaker 2: We're gonna play Thursday. They w't play a team against
- 14:10Speaker 2: that Saturday who hasn't participated in any Big Ten basketball
- 14:15Speaker 2: games to play on two wins.
- 14:15Speaker 3: I guess.
- 14:16Speaker 2: But so there's some confidence there where, Yeah, we might
- 14:21Speaker 2: have been figured out a little bit. But are they
- 14:22Speaker 2: got to really be ready for price ripping like curling
- 14:25Speaker 2: around for those threes or have they just gone on
- 14:28Speaker 2: film for a day and now they kind of think
- 14:30Speaker 2: they know what to do.
- 14:32Speaker 3: I mean, if you're an opposing team, right, You're you're
- 14:35Speaker 3: looking at You're watching a lot of these more recent games,
- 14:37Speaker 3: and you're you're seeing how teams are guarding us, and
- 14:40Speaker 3: I think there's one the scheme you're trying to do
- 14:44Speaker 3: to stop it. But too, you've got to have the
- 14:46Speaker 3: athleticism and players its defended as well. Flip side on offense, right,
- 14:49Speaker 3: you gotta have you gotta have one x's and nose piece,
- 14:53Speaker 3: But too you got to have the athletes and the
- 14:54Speaker 3: shooters and the types of players to attack.
- 14:58Speaker 2: It's kind of the same thing of why I always
- 15:00Speaker 2: like I always like Jim Beheim the Cuse, and I
- 15:03Speaker 2: like the Orange going a couple of rounds every year
- 15:05Speaker 2: in the tournament because there they just did it. Their
- 15:08Speaker 2: zone defense was.
- 15:09Speaker 4: So unique, right, it's hard to figure out.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, So I think we'll have a little bit
- 15:13Speaker 2: of that, and then if we win against Troy, if
- 15:17Speaker 2: I think we'll play, we'll play looser. I think we've
- 15:19Speaker 2: played a little bit tighter coming down the stretch because
- 15:23Speaker 2: you know the monkey's still there. I think we'll win
- 15:26Speaker 2: against Troy. It just it'll help.
- 15:29Speaker 12: I mean, if you're physical, physical at Nebraska, we have
- 15:32Speaker 12: proven that it's our team is not built for that,
- 15:36Speaker 12: like and I guess it also depends on how people
- 15:38Speaker 12: are gonna how the grafts are gonna rep this game too.
- 15:40Speaker 12: If they're letting them hold them push price the whole time,
- 15:43Speaker 12: then we are Nebraska is pretty screwed.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Because we can also be physical on defense.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Yeah, which have we proven that we can adjust to
- 15:51Speaker 4: that our.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Defense a little bit. It's so schematic based. I would
- 15:57Speaker 3: say that gameplay, we're okay. We're okay playing I mean
- 16:01Speaker 3: a little bit more. We have more scheme and it's
- 16:03Speaker 3: not a zone, but it's a lot more forced to
- 16:05Speaker 3: a certain spot and traffic. And I will say some
- 16:07Speaker 3: more better games are when we're allowed to be physical too.
- 16:10Speaker 3: So that's awesome point there. But you're right off ball
- 16:13Speaker 3: and a lot of that stuff with with Price and
- 16:17Speaker 3: how teams are going to defend that, that's gonna be
- 16:19Speaker 3: a big thing. And Austin, you mentioned the monkey on
- 16:21Speaker 3: our back, which we haven't talked about, but it was
- 16:23Speaker 3: mentioned in Hoiberg's press conference here today and it's gonna
- 16:32Speaker 3: be a topic of conversation. It already is on on
- 16:34Speaker 3: national stuff when they preview this game. Is obviously Nebraska
- 16:38Speaker 3: not winning a tournament game ever in its history.
- 16:43Speaker 4: So.
- 16:45Speaker 3: One I guess I want to ask you, guys, is
- 16:48Speaker 3: that a factor with this team? And to how do
- 16:53Speaker 3: you deal with it?
- 16:57Speaker 2: A great question. Yes, it is as a factor. There's
- 17:01Speaker 2: no way that the pressure is not being felt. I mean,
- 17:08Speaker 2: you just have to approach it. I mean, I mean,
- 17:10Speaker 2: in theory, you've been dealing with that all season, so
- 17:12Speaker 2: I feel like you continue to do approach it the
- 17:14Speaker 2: same way. But you know, I think it helps that
- 17:20Speaker 2: we kind of got slacked a little bit by Purdue.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Maybe I don't know. You obviously would want to be
- 17:27Speaker 2: for going in hot, but it's a long it's a
- 17:31Speaker 2: long time off to just chew on it. Basically. I mean,
- 17:35Speaker 2: you had one game in the middle there. I have
- 17:37Speaker 2: no idea. I don't know.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I think it's huge.
- 17:41Speaker 2: It's gonna be a soft home crowd. I'm gonna I'm
- 17:44Speaker 2: putting money right now, it's gonna be really freaking red
- 17:47Speaker 2: come eleven forty on Thursday.
- 17:50Speaker 4: I think it's a massive factor.
- 17:52Speaker 12: That's all anyone's talking about when you bring up Nebraska
- 17:54Speaker 12: is it's they've never won a tournament games, so this
- 17:56Speaker 12: is they probably have the most pressure of anyone in
- 17:58Speaker 12: the first round to win this game. Like unless you're
- 18:01Speaker 12: sixteen verse one, the sixteen beats anyway. But to get
- 18:06Speaker 12: that monkey off the back, like you just said, it'll
- 18:08Speaker 12: free up so much of even going into years after this.
- 18:12Speaker 4: It just get that monkey out of there. No one
- 18:13Speaker 4: ever can bring it up again.
- 18:15Speaker 12: And that's and the players in the in the UH
- 18:18Speaker 12: press conferences have been kind of kind of pushing it
- 18:21Speaker 12: off a little bit, but you can tell they know
- 18:23Speaker 12: what this is, what this means.
- 18:25Speaker 3: See, And that's the question. Do you do you just
- 18:28Speaker 3: address it head on as a I mean, as a
- 18:31Speaker 3: coaching staff, as players in conversations you just say, yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 3: we know it's here. Does it a change? Or do
- 18:37Speaker 3: you try to keep it hush hush and avoid it
- 18:41Speaker 3: and deflect it? I mean that's that I don't I
- 18:43Speaker 3: never know what that kind of stuff. Here's what I'm
- 18:46Speaker 3: encouraged with is how that now this is gonna go
- 18:51Speaker 3: back a couple of months, how we started the year.
- 18:53Speaker 3: How many times did we go when we were five
- 18:56Speaker 3: and oh seven, Oh, this will be the one. Oh
- 18:58Speaker 3: my god, there's pressure. We're getting in the top twenty five.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Now are okay, we'll probably blow this. When we got
- 19:03Speaker 3: into the top twenty five, Okay, big game on the
- 19:05Speaker 3: road against Illinois, Okay, this is we're gonna lose. Nope,
- 19:08Speaker 3: we didn't lose that one. How many times did we
- 19:11Speaker 3: go through that in our heads up until the point
- 19:13Speaker 3: we did lose our first game where we thought the
- 19:16Speaker 3: pressure or the call it whatever, the national hype, the
- 19:19Speaker 3: attention on a team that was picked to finish what
- 19:23Speaker 3: fourteenth out of fifteenth, seventeenth, I don't know where we're
- 19:26Speaker 3: at in the big ten. We've gone through this this
- 19:28Speaker 3: year already, not just like this group in past years,
- 19:31Speaker 3: Like this year, we've gone through the pressure. Now it
- 19:35Speaker 3: has been a while and we have been six and
- 19:39Speaker 3: six in our last twelve games. So is that six
- 19:44Speaker 3: and six part of in our head going, well, maybe
- 19:47Speaker 3: we're not as good as we think we are. And
- 19:48Speaker 3: then when the time and situation comes and things do
- 19:52Speaker 3: get tight all of a sudden, now we start thinking
- 19:54Speaker 3: about it or can this team go back to the
- 19:58Speaker 3: thought process that it had early on in the and
- 20:00Speaker 3: just I don't I don't care what anybody's saying about
- 20:03Speaker 3: how good we're supposed to be or how good we
- 20:05Speaker 3: think we are, and just win each possession at a time.
- 20:08Speaker 3: And that was Fred's message was, you know, our team
- 20:11Speaker 3: still focused on doing the little things, win one, one
- 20:14Speaker 3: possession at a time, and I'm like, yeah, we are.
- 20:18Speaker 3: You would have hoped that that truly was the mindset
- 20:20Speaker 3: and not just coach speak, that we would be seeing
- 20:22Speaker 3: maybe a few couple more wins here than what we have.
- 20:25Speaker 3: So you hope that that's not gone. It's definitely was
- 20:28Speaker 3: there at one point in the year. And that that's
- 20:30Speaker 3: why I have a little bit of hope that, yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 3: there's gonna be a lot of talk and pressure, but
- 20:34Speaker 3: it doesn't matter what we think. It matters what is
- 20:38Speaker 3: going on in the locker room and what you can
- 20:40Speaker 3: get through to your players. And if you can get
- 20:42Speaker 3: through that to them or not let it get to them,
- 20:45Speaker 3: we're gonna be in a good spot it We're not
- 20:47Speaker 3: gonna know if that's a thing and your general responsibilit Yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 3: of corseless pressure well, it's to what extent though, like
- 20:55Speaker 3: k ken Kenya, you know, not working. Are your players
- 20:59Speaker 3: in the right of mind heading into that to not
- 21:01Speaker 3: let that be a factor.
- 21:04Speaker 12: You know, where I have the most faith in this
- 21:06Speaker 12: game is in the pressure wise and all that whatever.
- 21:09Speaker 12: I have the most amount of respect from Nate Lenser
- 21:12Speaker 12: and what he's gonna do defensively wise, I think that
- 21:15Speaker 12: dude can scheme up something so quick, it doesn't matter
- 21:18Speaker 12: if it's two or three days down the road here,
- 21:19Speaker 12: so quick that he can defend any team in the
- 21:21Speaker 12: scheme it right.
- 21:22Speaker 4: That's that's what I mean.
- 21:24Speaker 12: And the other good part is we have Hoiberg leaning
- 21:28Speaker 12: the charge. He was talking about how last game, his
- 21:31Speaker 12: last tournament game whatever, when they lost A and M,
- 21:33Speaker 12: they came to that game they thought they were gonna
- 21:35Speaker 12: win because they wanted it more. Well, that just can't happen,
- 21:39Speaker 12: like Troy wants to just so much. Nebraska. It's you
- 21:43Speaker 12: gotta schematically wise figure out how to lock them down
- 21:48Speaker 12: and rebound. That's two things.
- 21:54Speaker 2: How has the has the betting line moved at all
- 21:57Speaker 2: of this game?
- 21:58Speaker 4: I just saw thirteen and a half.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Okay, it opened up fifteen and a half, So I
- 22:04Speaker 2: do think you're looking at the bracket, it's probably the
- 22:06Speaker 2: most picked up set for four thirteen.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and then there's a lot I mean, that's
- 22:11Speaker 3: just the general consensus for all the reasons that we're saying,
- 22:14Speaker 3: right like it is, it's just it's going to be one.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Of those We're definitely we're it's i mean, not the
- 22:22Speaker 2: undervalue KU's record or you know, expectations, but we're probably
- 22:27Speaker 2: the most pressured or lower seed as far as what
- 22:31Speaker 2: the expectations are for getting.
- 22:34Speaker 3: And a lot of that still goes back to the
- 22:36Speaker 3: brand of people in nationally just filling out a bracket
- 22:39Speaker 3: and saying Nebraska has never been here before, like right,
- 22:42Speaker 3: it just it just part of it, and yeah, that's
- 22:45Speaker 3: why you just you just hope that and you want
- 22:47Speaker 3: to believe that this team is I mean, especially like
- 22:49Speaker 3: Dac you said, Lent Lesnar and then like Fred, the
- 22:53Speaker 3: scheme and the system and the styles that we're doing
- 22:56Speaker 3: are are going to outweigh the emotional part of it.
- 22:59Speaker 3: And know, yeah, I hope we learned from our last game,
- 23:01Speaker 3: and you know that's what has to get you feeling
- 23:03Speaker 3: good going into Troy, uh real quick before diving into
- 23:09Speaker 3: them I I Austin. You mentioned the redout crowd. Austin's
- 23:14Speaker 3: talk before he's going down. I'm going down. Dak's not
- 23:17Speaker 3: a fan, He's not going down. It's gonna be a
- 23:22Speaker 3: pretty wild, wild, wild weekend. I mean, hopefully it lasts
- 23:28Speaker 3: more than one day. Uh, you know, playing that first
- 23:31Speaker 3: game or I guess second game at eleven forty, first
- 23:34Speaker 3: game in OKC against Troy, I know, getting tickets was nuts.
- 23:40Speaker 3: You know, the fake TV time slot that still happened
- 23:43Speaker 3: to be and yeah, that was But I guess I
- 23:50Speaker 3: don't know what else to say besides, I mean, I
- 23:52Speaker 3: think everybody expected to be pretty awesome and crazy, and
- 23:55Speaker 3: I mean I think we can all name several people
- 23:57Speaker 3: that we know that.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Are going I said, I think it's gonna be pretty
- 24:00Speaker 2: read down there.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:03Speaker 12: So, I mean, honestly, they win this first game, it's
- 24:07Speaker 12: all gravy by that point, right, you won't be as
- 24:10Speaker 12: mad if they lose the vander build Er whoever they
- 24:11Speaker 12: play that.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it all just comes down to this and that.
- 24:16Speaker 3: You know what, And that goes back a little bit
- 24:18Speaker 3: to our I think we talked about this one of
- 24:21Speaker 3: its last part a few before, like what is the
- 24:23Speaker 3: expectation what should we be doing. Well, guess what, we
- 24:25Speaker 3: are a higher seed than Vanderbilt, like in theory, right,
- 24:28Speaker 3: we should win. And yeah, I think there's two ways
- 24:31Speaker 3: to look at it. One for the season that we've had,
- 24:33Speaker 3: some of the wins that we've had, Yeah, you'd be
- 24:36Speaker 3: it'd be well deserved to get to the Sweet sixteen,
- 24:39Speaker 3: or further based on what we've done to get the
- 24:42Speaker 3: monkey offer back. Yeah, we just get that first game,
- 24:44Speaker 3: and I think that'll actually help our focus for the
- 24:46Speaker 3: first game. Whereas you know, think if we've won a
- 24:49Speaker 3: couple of tournament games in the last ten years, right,
- 24:52Speaker 3: you're going into this game, you probably can overlook someone
- 24:55Speaker 3: like Troy and looking onto the second week. So I
- 24:58Speaker 3: think we'll be pretty locked into this first game because
- 25:02Speaker 3: we know that, you know, we got to get this
- 25:04Speaker 3: first win. And then, like you said, Austin, we might
- 25:06Speaker 3: play really loose, which could be good or bad given
- 25:10Speaker 3: what Vanderbilt's got.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they only I keep telling myself because obviously there's
- 25:20Speaker 2: part of me that's just terrified that we're just gonna
- 25:22Speaker 2: go down there. We're just gonna be sad Husker fans
- 25:26Speaker 2: and the camera is just gonna cut to us and
- 25:28Speaker 2: we're all gonna be, you know, hands on her head,
- 25:32Speaker 2: you know, looking down. But I tell myself, if if
- 25:36Speaker 2: this was, you know, week four of the season, we're
- 25:39Speaker 2: playing South Alabama, I'm not worried and Troy was only
- 25:45Speaker 2: one game better. You know, Troy. South Alabama was the best,
- 25:47Speaker 2: second best team in the Troy's conference. You know, Okay it,
- 25:51Speaker 2: Troy's good. But like if I saw Troy earlier this season,
- 25:56Speaker 2: be like, that's a win.
- 25:59Speaker 3: So that's what I'm telling Yeah, let's let's preview Troy
- 26:02Speaker 3: here a little a little bit. So what I'm what
- 26:03Speaker 3: I'm pulling up here. If you're watching on YouTube, I
- 26:08Speaker 3: do help coach high school basketball, So I use the
- 26:10Speaker 3: scouting template that we have there and started watching a
- 26:13Speaker 3: little bit of Troy the last couple of days, and
- 26:18Speaker 3: so I've put some player stuff out there to see
- 26:22Speaker 3: what they had. I watched I think two games start
- 26:24Speaker 3: to finish. Here's my initial takes on on them. They're
- 26:32Speaker 3: definitely scary. I think that we have the better players,
- 26:39Speaker 3: multiple We have multiple better players.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Than they do.
- 26:43Speaker 3: They play a style that is very scrappy and they
- 26:48Speaker 3: win a lot of loose balls. They they're really good
- 26:50Speaker 3: offensive rebounding team. They're not super tall, but they have
- 26:55Speaker 3: like sneaky length. They will run and transition and they
- 27:00Speaker 3: want to shoot a lot of threes, but they're okay
- 27:02Speaker 3: playing slow as well. I don't know if you saw
- 27:04Speaker 3: our point total, but it's one of the lowest out
- 27:08Speaker 3: there of the all the round of sixty fours. So
- 27:13Speaker 3: I think they're scary, but I don't I don't think
- 27:15Speaker 3: it's a bad matchup for US. I also don't think
- 27:17Speaker 3: it's like a phenomenal matchup for US, but because they
- 27:20Speaker 3: do do some things that really scary you, and if
- 27:24Speaker 3: they execute their stuff well, what they have coming in
- 27:28Speaker 3: against our defense, they have the ability to score a
- 27:31Speaker 3: lot of points where I think that we could be
- 27:35Speaker 3: at a big advantage here. And this is I really
- 27:37Speaker 3: love the over in our game. I don't think we're
- 27:39Speaker 3: going to have a whole lot of trouble scoring against them,
- 27:43Speaker 3: specifically inside. I don't know how they're going to I
- 27:46Speaker 3: don't think they have the athletes and the players to
- 27:49Speaker 3: stick with what we try to do offensively. I think
- 27:52Speaker 3: I think that will be difficult for him. So that's
- 27:55Speaker 3: my overall take of the Troy Trojans as I've watched
- 27:59Speaker 3: them here couple of games. If you guys, do you
- 28:03Speaker 3: guys have anything to add.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Or that you've seen, Yeah, watched the Detroit Trojan's.
- 28:09Speaker 12: I'm just gonna say, those two redheaded brothers scared of
- 28:11Speaker 12: the living crap on me. Those two can get hotter
- 28:13Speaker 12: in hell. And I can just imagine right now they
- 28:15Speaker 12: come in. They those two both hit like fifteen. Yeah,
- 28:19Speaker 12: that that's what scares the living crap. Those two can
- 28:22Speaker 12: shoot the lights out. And it's it's the rebounding. Yeah,
- 28:25Speaker 12: it's not that I watched a couple of their games.
- 28:29Speaker 12: It's not the size they get these rebounds.
- 28:30Speaker 3: You watch a couple of other games, you watched.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Highlights and some of the USC games.
- 28:35Speaker 12: But the rebounds they do get, it's like they're just
- 28:39Speaker 12: in the right position to grab and it has nothing
- 28:41Speaker 12: to do with their size. They just know how to
- 28:42Speaker 12: get to the ball on those rebounds.
- 28:47Speaker 3: To go through some of their players. And like I said,
- 28:50Speaker 3: if you're watching on YouTube, you can see a picture
- 28:53Speaker 3: of them. But their best two players are number one
- 28:56Speaker 3: Thomas Dow averages fifteen a game, and then a number
- 28:59Speaker 3: eleven Victor Valdez. Average is also a fifteen a game.
- 29:03Speaker 3: They're two. I'll call him very just methodical type players.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Uh number eleven there the Valdez kid. He has a
- 29:14Speaker 3: style and they said it's on one of the broadcast
- 29:16Speaker 3: but very similar to Luca, like just very patient. He's
- 29:21Speaker 3: not overly quick, but uses his body, his shoulders really
- 29:24Speaker 3: well when he drives. He's not a great three point shooter.
- 29:28Speaker 3: He will shoot him, but what he's best at is
- 29:30Speaker 3: getting to the rim and then and then Dowd their
- 29:33Speaker 3: other guy. He's kind of there, get it and go guy.
- 29:36Speaker 3: They want to get him the ball when when things
- 29:39Speaker 3: are tough. He can score from mid range, he can
- 29:42Speaker 3: score with the rim, he can score from three. He
- 29:44Speaker 3: shoots thirty four from three, shoots about six a game.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Like he's he's their go to guy. He can also
- 29:50Speaker 3: get frustrated. The one game I was watching, they were
- 29:53Speaker 3: better off without him in for a few minutes because
- 29:55Speaker 3: he got frustrated, had a couple of turnovers. So it's
- 29:57Speaker 3: not like he's a all big ten type caliber player.
- 30:02Speaker 3: None of these guys are. But but what they try
- 30:06Speaker 3: to do they're pretty good at and they do some
- 30:07Speaker 3: good things. Dak mentioned, I'll go to the two brothers here,
- 30:11Speaker 3: Cooper and Kobe Campbell. Cooper is the better one of
- 30:15Speaker 3: the two. He's the one that plays point guard, and
- 30:18Speaker 3: he's a little bit thicker, stronger Coke. Kobe's a lefty.
- 30:23Speaker 3: But they both can shoot the crap out of it.
- 30:25Speaker 3: Like Dak said, they're both about forty point shooters. They
- 30:27Speaker 3: both shoot five a game. They can get hot, they
- 30:29Speaker 3: can make make a lot in a short amount of time.
- 30:34Speaker 3: But that's what their best at for sure. And then
- 30:37Speaker 3: the guy who's been starting recently is Darrell Bellamy. He's
- 30:41Speaker 3: a six nine two and thirty five pounds senior post player.
- 30:44Speaker 3: He's not a three point shooter, doesn't want to. He's
- 30:48Speaker 3: a he's a bit. He's their post. He's a he's
- 30:51Speaker 3: a dunker. He just he he's a hangs around the basket.
- 30:54Speaker 3: He's a good rebounder. He's averaging twenty point six points
- 30:57Speaker 3: in the last three games. So he's just he's been
- 31:00Speaker 3: around the the boards a lot, and they found him
- 31:04Speaker 3: a lot when guys are driving to go along with him.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Their other postige player more of a stretch for guy,
- 31:14Speaker 3: will shoot a little bit. He has not played the
- 31:16Speaker 3: last six games due to a knee injury. But the
- 31:18Speaker 3: stuff that I've been seeing is pretty probable to play
- 31:21Speaker 3: on Thursday is Theo Sang. He's six twenty five pounds
- 31:25Speaker 3: senior as well. He does run the floor really well.
- 31:28Speaker 3: In transition, he plays more of the high post area.
- 31:32Speaker 3: It kind of reminds me of Walter Pitchford. Maybe a
- 31:34Speaker 3: little more athletic than than Walter p but he he
- 31:40Speaker 3: does do some good things as well. He's our third
- 31:43Speaker 3: lead leading scorer on the year. And then they bring
- 31:47Speaker 3: in two other guys here, this Carrington Keel. He's a
- 31:49Speaker 3: six D sophomore, very good offensive rebounder, that's what he's
- 31:53Speaker 3: in for. He will shoot a couple of threes, but
- 31:56Speaker 3: he's a very good offensive rebounder for the minutes that
- 31:58Speaker 3: he plays. And then number ninety five Austin Frost. He's
- 32:03Speaker 3: like he's the head coach's kid. Head coach Scott Cross
- 32:07Speaker 3: is in his seventh year. Gotta be careful not to
- 32:10Speaker 3: say Scott Frost. He plays hard, he plays very tough
- 32:17Speaker 3: first size, he'll shoot threes when he's in he I mean,
- 32:21Speaker 3: he's let's be real, he's he's Sam as a freshman,
- 32:24Speaker 3: like that's that's what he that's what he does. He
- 32:27Speaker 3: does a lot of those little things. He's not great
- 32:30Speaker 3: dribbling the ball. He doesn't do a whole lot. He's
- 32:32Speaker 3: obviously their eighth man, ninth man, but he's gonna play
- 32:37Speaker 3: some too. So that give you what you're looking at
- 32:41Speaker 3: here for the Troy Trojans. I don't usually do this,
- 32:46Speaker 3: but I had some time today and this evening and
- 32:50Speaker 3: put some stuff together.
- 32:51Speaker 2: So do you think this will have the most white
- 32:54Speaker 2: people at the tip top of the game Pavini in
- 32:56Speaker 2: the round of sixty four?
- 32:57Speaker 3: Yes, yes, yes, it very well could be nine.
- 33:05Speaker 2: It could be very well could be nine. So the
- 33:10Speaker 2: Redheads too.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Two they're they're rebounding.
- 33:13Speaker 12: It scares the shooting and the rebound they're rebounding just
- 33:17Speaker 12: scares the crap on. Mean, their offensive rebound, Like I said,
- 33:19Speaker 12: they just get in repositions. I don't they're not very tall,
- 33:23Speaker 12: but that that one new that guy who said z
- 33:25Speaker 12: average one game that year is a strong freaking dude,
- 33:29Speaker 12: and he It just scares the crap on me because
- 33:31Speaker 12: Rank is not the most physical due in the world.
- 33:32Speaker 12: And Burkeye Brooke's all right rebounding, but just those two,
- 33:36Speaker 12: I feel like it's a horrible matchup with him.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Yeah, they shoot a lot of threes, are not great
- 33:41Speaker 3: percentage wise. They shoot the thirty eighth most threes in
- 33:44Speaker 3: the country, but they only make thirty three point five
- 33:48Speaker 3: percent of them overall. It's two hundred and sixth uh
- 33:51Speaker 3: in the country, so they will shoot a lot. And
- 33:53Speaker 3: then you mentioned the offensive rebounding. They're forty first in
- 33:56Speaker 3: the country and onoffensive rebounding they're sixty fifth and assists
- 34:00Speaker 3: fifty six and steals, so they opposing teams have not
- 34:07Speaker 3: shot it great against them. They've opposing controllingly shooting thirty
- 34:10Speaker 3: one point three percent, which is forty seventh uh in
- 34:13Speaker 3: in the country. So that's that's stat wise, what what
- 34:17Speaker 3: they look at. They're turnover percent just twelve point seven forced,
- 34:21Speaker 3: so that's a top one hundred stat for them as well.
- 34:25Speaker 3: It just speaks to their again grittiness and scrappiness on
- 34:29Speaker 3: the defensive end. I do want to mention too that
- 34:34Speaker 3: I've watched them, and this is more of a scheme
- 34:37Speaker 3: x as a nost thing, but they they the two
- 34:39Speaker 3: games I watched, they've ran a matchup zone probably more
- 34:42Speaker 3: than half the time. And and when when you say
- 34:45Speaker 3: a zone. You know, your traditional basketball people might think
- 34:48Speaker 3: two three, you know, three two one three one something
- 34:52Speaker 3: like that. The zone is a is matchup for a reason,
- 34:56Speaker 3: and so it just kind of morphs to how you're
- 34:59Speaker 3: going to at pack it, which some coaches struggle to
- 35:04Speaker 3: attack that offensively, and if you have good ball movement
- 35:08Speaker 3: and have the right scheme to go against it, you
- 35:09Speaker 3: will end up getting some wide open shots. But it
- 35:13Speaker 3: was effective in the two games that I watched against them.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I'm not sure if they'll run that a lot against us,
- 35:18Speaker 3: or if they'll try to. Here's the good news with that.
- 35:20Speaker 3: If you run something like that, you are not locking
- 35:22Speaker 3: on and chasing a guy like Price Sandford, so they do.
- 35:28Speaker 3: If they do run this matchup zone, I would expect
- 35:31Speaker 3: us to have some stuff ready to get sand for
- 35:33Speaker 3: some open shops and that can be how we go
- 35:37Speaker 3: on a run. I mean, I really do think if
- 35:39Speaker 3: they go to that, it's going to be hard to
- 35:41Speaker 3: defend us. But they've ran it and it was effective
- 35:44Speaker 3: against Georgia Southern and Akron and Appalachian States. I mean,
- 35:49Speaker 3: it worked well against them. Again, I don't know that's
- 35:53Speaker 3: something they'll run against us, But I didn't want to
- 35:55Speaker 3: throw that out there, so.
- 35:57Speaker 12: You guys think they're going to break that out and
- 35:58Speaker 12: if it's like a break Laska's emergency, like if it
- 36:01Speaker 12: sucks for like a minute and a half, two they're
- 36:03Speaker 12: never going back to it.
- 36:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Uh Worth noting the Trojans have played five overtime games
- 36:13Speaker 2: this year, four of which went to double overtime. One
- 36:16Speaker 2: of them went to triple overtime against the USC earlier
- 36:18Speaker 2: in the year, So they're they're used to.
- 36:23Speaker 3: They've been in a lot of close games, even their wins.
- 36:25Speaker 3: I mean, I just if you look at their schedule,
- 36:28Speaker 3: I think the only Power five team that I saw
- 36:30Speaker 3: on there was usc USC. But but they you know,
- 36:34Speaker 3: they they've been in a lot of close games, and
- 36:36Speaker 3: you know, you can say it's good or bad when
- 36:38Speaker 3: you're looking at the our game. But yeah, I mean
- 36:44Speaker 3: they're twenty two and eleven. It's not like they're some
- 36:47Speaker 3: of these mid majors you might he might get a
- 36:49Speaker 3: thirty and fourteam or something like that. You know that
- 36:51Speaker 3: they've got some losses. The one common opponent that we have,
- 36:54Speaker 3: which Dak of course shared with me, was was West Georgia,
- 36:58Speaker 3: where they lost by four two them.
- 37:02Speaker 2: We played them in.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Double overtime, so that is the one them in USC
- 37:08Speaker 3: are the two common opponents there that we have.
- 37:13Speaker 12: We're really worried about a team that lost to West Georgia,
- 37:15Speaker 12: who we killed, that doesn't even have a logo on
- 37:16Speaker 12: the ESPN app, like, come on, we're gonna We're gonna
- 37:20Speaker 12: destroy toy.
- 37:23Speaker 3: Exactly. Our preview is go through some of our players
- 37:31Speaker 3: and and things that we've seen or have not seen
- 37:37Speaker 3: the past few games. I think halfway through the season,
- 37:41Speaker 3: when we were at twenty and er every single player
- 37:44Speaker 3: if you wanted to do a stock ticker on them all,
- 37:47Speaker 3: it all happen, all pointing up and was exceeding whatever
- 37:51Speaker 3: we thought coming into the year.
- 37:52Speaker 4: It was above that.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Since then, some things have cooled off, maybe because of
- 37:57Speaker 3: the who we played, how teams have stdogize against us.
- 38:01Speaker 3: But kind of want to go through what we expect
- 38:03Speaker 3: and what we want to see need to see out
- 38:05Speaker 3: of these guys going in And I don't care where
- 38:09Speaker 3: we start, Dak, I'll let you start where you want
- 38:11Speaker 3: to go and give me your thoughts.
- 38:14Speaker 12: I'm just gonna say this right now. I think kill
- 38:18Speaker 12: Jacobson has to play a lot in this game. I
- 38:21Speaker 12: love when he gets in there because him and Hoiberg
- 38:24Speaker 12: together just defend like their ass off when they're running together.
- 38:27Speaker 12: I think you play them a lot. You just make
- 38:29Speaker 12: their those two redheads live. Hell, you play him raf
- 38:33Speaker 12: the bat because I think I think good things happening
- 38:35Speaker 12: with Kal's in the game, and that's probably that probably
- 38:38Speaker 12: means less minutes for Fraker. But you know, I don't
- 38:40Speaker 12: care that dude's been playing like he's been playing terrible lately.
- 38:48Speaker 2: The kill Jacobson, that's where we're starting.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Yeah, Dak want to start Kale. So what I mean,
- 38:54Speaker 3: here's my thoughts on Cale. I agree with what you said. Clearly,
- 38:58Speaker 3: Kale has been our out of the players that you mentioned,
- 39:01Speaker 3: you know with Freger, I even he's.
- 39:03Speaker 2: The only he's the only one with the green arrow
- 39:06Speaker 2: up right now.
- 39:06Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's got he's been defending well offensively. We're
- 39:11Speaker 3: getting a lot out of him, which that was his
- 39:14Speaker 3: big question mark. I guess when he started to play
- 39:17Speaker 3: like Inkal do anything on offense and teams are leaving
- 39:19Speaker 3: him open. And you know, he's made some shots, two
- 39:22Speaker 3: big ones at home against the Hiowa and overtime, like
- 39:25Speaker 3: that was the Kal Jacobson game. He's finishing around the
- 39:28Speaker 3: rim pretty well and he's yeah, you're right, the green
- 39:31Speaker 3: arrows up for kal Uh. I agree. I think he
- 39:35Speaker 3: he I want him. I do think he needs to
- 39:37Speaker 3: play and he needs to have a good game. But
- 39:40Speaker 3: I I we've been so limited. If we can't get
- 39:45Speaker 3: anything out of Frager and can't get me Garcia will
- 39:48Speaker 3: get to we can't get anything out, Like, we're so
- 39:51Speaker 3: limited what we have on the offensive end with that five.
- 39:55Speaker 3: So like, yeah, I want Cale to play a lot
- 39:56Speaker 3: because he's been playing well but ideal and we don't
- 40:00Speaker 3: want to have to play him and Sam both because
- 40:03Speaker 3: they can just defend and lock down guards. Now a
- 40:07Speaker 3: strategy is I do think those two can hound the
- 40:11Speaker 3: crap out of those guards, and even with our switching defense,
- 40:15Speaker 3: they get put on Dowd or Valdez to you know,
- 40:19Speaker 3: six eighty six nine, And I do think being underneath
- 40:22Speaker 3: them and being scrappy is going to cause them kind
- 40:24Speaker 3: of it's going to cause them fits. So I do
- 40:26Speaker 3: think that defensively it will give us a big advantage
- 40:29Speaker 3: having them in, just like it has all year. I'm
- 40:31Speaker 3: just hoping that we can see more from other guys,
- 40:34Speaker 3: so it does maybe have to happen that way.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not gonna say Kale's offense has become unlocked.
- 40:41Speaker 2: You know, he's had two goose eggs in the last
- 40:45Speaker 2: five games. But the Iowa and UCLA games were both good.
- 40:48Speaker 2: But Ucla we got killed. So it's like, well, iowea,
- 40:52Speaker 2: we needed him. He came it hot at the end.
- 40:55Speaker 2: But yeah, I agree, offensively, I don't the way our
- 41:01Speaker 2: offense has been playing the last couple of weeks. We
- 41:04Speaker 2: need a better flow offensively, and I don't think that's
- 41:07Speaker 2: with him.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Then jump into Freger because I mentioned him as kind
- 41:13Speaker 3: of our other guy here, six man off the bench.
- 41:16Speaker 3: He did win Big ten six Man of the Year.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Frek's been overall on the year, probably our third best score.
- 41:23Speaker 3: I mean, realistically speaking, it has not been good recently,
- 41:28Speaker 3: and he's been the one that I don't think anybody
- 41:31Speaker 3: really has an answer for. You know, he is a freshman.
- 41:36Speaker 3: He came out the gates nobody expecting to even see
- 41:38Speaker 3: him really play. I don't think anybody even thought about that,
- 41:41Speaker 3: and now all of a sudden, he's averaging eleven ten,
- 41:44Speaker 3: eleven twelve a game, you know, shooting it well, driving,
- 41:47Speaker 3: finishing at the rim. I think Fred's even said needing
- 41:53Speaker 3: the you know, the the hype guy, that that man
- 41:56Speaker 3: kind of back. Unfortunately. I think what's happened he's kind
- 42:01Speaker 3: of lost all that. I'm not gonna say confidence, but
- 42:04Speaker 3: just the the energy that he was playing with early on,
- 42:07Speaker 3: and that was a big part of his game. Right
- 42:11Speaker 3: now it's not there now. Can you get that back? Absolutely?
- 42:14Speaker 3: And he still can shoot the ball. I don't think
- 42:17Speaker 3: there's a reason. I don't think he's he's but he
- 42:19Speaker 3: can't when he's in. What he cannot do is turn
- 42:22Speaker 3: it over, and he's done that the past few years. Defensively, obviously,
- 42:25Speaker 3: you're gonna get more out of Kal, So like you
- 42:28Speaker 3: got to make up for that with what you're doing
- 42:30Speaker 3: on the offensive end and being that like third option
- 42:33Speaker 3: on the court, which he is when he's in with
- 42:35Speaker 3: Mass and Price, Like he's that third option that you're
- 42:38Speaker 3: gonna get some open, open drives and open shots because
- 42:42Speaker 3: you're that number three option, you gotta take it. If
- 42:44Speaker 3: you're not taking advantage of that, then you can't play.
- 42:46Speaker 3: So you're not giving as much on the other end.
- 42:48Speaker 3: So that's my thoughts on Frager. I hope he's back,
- 42:51Speaker 3: because he does. We are so much more on offense,
- 42:54Speaker 3: but even defensively, it's not like we take a huge
- 42:56Speaker 3: step back. He's not case like. He's not like Kse
- 42:59Speaker 3: was absolute liability at times because of his size.
- 43:02Speaker 2: He's not case right, but case So, Yeah, the difference
- 43:07Speaker 2: with Frager of the middle of the year was the
- 43:10Speaker 2: three ball is not the three ball's gone, right, and
- 43:14Speaker 2: he's what one for eight in the last three games
- 43:16Speaker 2: something crazy two right? No right, count eight two for
- 43:21Speaker 2: two for eleven in the last four games. Us he's
- 43:26Speaker 2: five for twenty in the last five games. So I
- 43:29Speaker 2: mean he's he's come a he's maybe returned to normal.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Maybe he was just he had that one spart where
- 43:36Speaker 2: he was shooting, you know, three for seven that seemed
- 43:38Speaker 2: like every other game. And without the three ball, maybe
- 43:43Speaker 2: people are able to play him a little bit closer
- 43:45Speaker 2: than're not closing out, so he's not getting the driving
- 43:47Speaker 2: lanes that he was getting, and so now he's getting
- 43:49Speaker 2: not getting the easy layups at the at the bucket,
- 43:51Speaker 2: and so he's not getting energized. But yeah, he definitely
- 43:54Speaker 2: I don't know if the injury he just felt like
- 43:56Speaker 2: he lost his step and he doesn't go confident. But
- 44:00Speaker 2: even I can't even say that because he's had good games.
- 44:02Speaker 2: I mean, he had twenty one against Maryland and seventeen
- 44:05Speaker 2: against USC. It's just I feel like Iowa and Purdue
- 44:09Speaker 2: with the teams with those bigger, bigger bodies that you
- 44:13Speaker 2: could just put on him, and if the three's not falling,
- 44:16Speaker 2: he gets frazzled, which is what you'd expect a freshman.
- 44:19Speaker 2: So yeah, that's that's probably what they're gonna do to him.
- 44:22Speaker 2: They're gonna put one of their six to eight guys
- 44:24Speaker 2: on him and make him shoot the threes and if
- 44:26Speaker 2: they're not falling, he's gonna panic and start driving into
- 44:30Speaker 2: bad shots and turning it over.
- 44:32Speaker 12: Yeah that right, There's what Chip doesn't happen being a
- 44:34Speaker 12: freshman is that he doesn't start painicking loses the game,
- 44:38Speaker 12: which he he could, but I just don't think we'll
- 44:39Speaker 12: play him long enough to like he's kind of one too.
- 44:43Speaker 12: If it starts going out for him, I don't think
- 44:45Speaker 12: he can get much playing time.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Like I agree, I think that's where what's happened in
- 44:49Speaker 3: Kale's played more like that's just what we've done that, right, he.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Was playing like thirty minutes a game and now he's
- 44:54Speaker 2: down to twenty.
- 44:55Speaker 3: Yes, So Austin, where do you want to go next?
- 44:58Speaker 2: I want to start JaMarcus as JaMarcus. Also again we
- 45:03Speaker 2: all all out again, the arrows down. I feel like
- 45:05Speaker 2: they're all a little bit lost. JaMarcus almost lost us
- 45:08Speaker 2: the Iowa game because he bricks two free throws with
- 45:11Speaker 2: a second left in the game or whatever it was.
- 45:15Speaker 2: But he also no offense from JaMarcus, which we were getting.
- 45:20Speaker 2: We were getting offense, you know, we were getting ten points,
- 45:23Speaker 2: ten or more points during our twenty game win streak.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Even with Michigan and Illinois losses, he still did pretty well.
- 45:31Speaker 2: I don't know. Again, he shot twenty eight twelve percent
- 45:37Speaker 2: sixteen fourteen percent, like just horrible shooting. And so now
- 45:43Speaker 2: I don't know. I think everyone's all messed up because
- 45:45Speaker 2: you can't leave JaMarcus out there because he's not giving
- 45:48Speaker 2: you any offense and his defense isn't that great. So
- 45:50Speaker 2: you're like, well, let's just put Kalin there because at
- 45:52Speaker 2: least he has really good defense and his offense is
- 45:54Speaker 2: playing abo as well as JaMarcus. But then when you
- 45:56Speaker 2: need the offense, you bring JaMarcus in, but then he's
- 45:58Speaker 2: cold because he's been sitting on the bench. I mean pulled.
- 46:01Speaker 2: We pulled JaMarcus at the end of the Iowa game, yep,
- 46:04Speaker 2: because it's just he didn't play like at all in overtime.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Because it's like this dude is he's got nothing right now,
- 46:10Speaker 2: he's bricking everything. I don't know. I don't know what
- 46:13Speaker 2: to do with JaMarcus, but it's hard.
- 46:15Speaker 3: I don't It's not a good answer for him. I
- 46:17Speaker 3: don't know. If you guys saw the video of us
- 46:18Speaker 3: walking back in the tunnel after the Purdue loss, he
- 46:21Speaker 3: was you know, he's JaMarcus is I was. I mean
- 46:24Speaker 3: him and Sam and Rank. You know, he's a senior
- 46:26Speaker 3: like and he's a point guard, and I think he
- 46:29Speaker 3: he wants to be that leader. But his play hasn't
- 46:31Speaker 3: really really done it. Uh. You know, I think a
- 46:34Speaker 3: lot of it is shooting, Like you said, the one
- 46:37Speaker 3: thing with JaMarcus, and outside of Price, he's kind of
- 46:40Speaker 3: our midrid range game guy too. You know, when teams
- 46:43Speaker 3: are giving that up off a ball stream coverage, right,
- 46:46Speaker 3: He's been able to knock some of those shots down
- 46:48Speaker 3: earlier in the year, and he's not even getting those
- 46:50Speaker 3: to fall anymore. It's hard. He's he's a tough cookie
- 46:53Speaker 3: to figure out.
- 46:53Speaker 2: He really is.
- 46:56Speaker 3: It is. It's it's interesting where we're at in the rotations,
- 46:59Speaker 3: like sense the white bread's getting paid the big bucks.
- 47:02Speaker 3: But that that video of that tunnel and all that,
- 47:05Speaker 3: it gave me a little bit of like it didn't
- 47:08Speaker 3: make me feel good watching that. I guess it just
- 47:09Speaker 3: didn't feel great. Now it looks like we went in.
- 47:12Speaker 3: We were having a lot of hooping and hollering and
- 47:14Speaker 3: fun at practice the next day and JaMarcus was shooting
- 47:17Speaker 3: on the gun when they got back from it from Chicago.
- 47:20Speaker 3: So you know that, and that's good. I Yeah, it's
- 47:24Speaker 3: just a hard one to figure out.
- 47:28Speaker 2: If you exclude perdue. He shot four for four, four eight,
- 47:37Speaker 2: four for eleven on free throws then the year, Like,
- 47:40Speaker 2: you can't do that if you're no more.
- 47:42Speaker 12: Yeah, absolutely nothing is falling for him. Free throws, layups, threes,
- 47:45Speaker 12: nothing's pond for him.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Help four games where he did not hit a single
- 47:51Speaker 2: free throw.
- 47:53Speaker 12: Yeah, that's in him. You need him driving and creating
- 47:57Speaker 12: on the offense too. So it's he's just a complete master.
- 48:00Speaker 12: Now hopefully he can pull his head out of his ass,
- 48:02Speaker 12: and we just get that. We get like the Illinois.
- 48:07Speaker 12: That time you hear JaMarcus back.
- 48:09Speaker 2: When our offense was working, was when JaMarcus was at
- 48:12Speaker 2: least again you know obviously when we were hit or shot,
- 48:16Speaker 2: their offense was working actually a little bit confident behind
- 48:19Speaker 2: three and JaMarcus could hit. I don't know, it just
- 48:23Speaker 2: opened up the floor and we haven't had the floor
- 48:25Speaker 2: open for the inside game.
- 48:27Speaker 3: Which then it's one of those things that if you're
- 48:29Speaker 3: gonna take away price and you're gonna take away you know,
- 48:31Speaker 3: from the rank stuff, when you make the extra extra pass,
- 48:34Speaker 3: guess who it ends up with a lot of times
- 48:36Speaker 3: it's JaMarcus in the corner, right, So yeah, I mean
- 48:40Speaker 3: you got to take advantage of that if that's if
- 48:41Speaker 3: that's what the defense is going to give you. Okay,
- 48:44Speaker 3: I mean that's frigger and whoever that person is that
- 48:46Speaker 3: needs to be the guy that steps up and is
- 48:48Speaker 3: able to make that shot.
- 48:51Speaker 2: But he hasn't over thirty shots since you know, almost
- 48:55Speaker 2: a month ago. Like it's that's as field Upson hasn't
- 48:59Speaker 2: even touched their percent since almost a month ago. Like
- 49:01Speaker 2: that's so bad.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Hey, you want to touch on Garcia here.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Yeah, everyone's no one likes it.
- 49:13Speaker 3: I don't think. Here's the thing.
- 49:15Speaker 4: I don't mind him, I really don't.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Here's the thing. He's our eighth man, right, Like his
- 49:21Speaker 3: job is not to come in and do a whole lot.
- 49:22Speaker 3: I think that's why people get frustrated with him, because
- 49:24Speaker 3: he tries to do too much. And I agree, we
- 49:27Speaker 3: can get to the point that that happens. Now. There's
- 49:29Speaker 3: an old line that says, there's a reason why you're open,
- 49:34Speaker 3: like I do. Think he's the fifth option clear on
- 49:38Speaker 3: the court every time, so there is a reason why
- 49:41Speaker 3: he's getting open shots. Like, I don't think that's wrong.
- 49:45Speaker 5: Now.
- 49:46Speaker 3: I don't know why I feel this, but I feel
- 49:47Speaker 3: like every time he goes in he's making one of
- 49:49Speaker 3: his first two is because I think he is. But
- 49:52Speaker 3: after that, then get him out of the game before
- 49:53Speaker 3: he tries to do too much. But in the past
- 49:56Speaker 3: few games, I felt like he actually comes in and
- 49:58Speaker 3: they're like, all right, we're gonna let this guy shoot
- 50:00Speaker 3: and he buries one. Everybody goes nuts because he's our
- 50:02Speaker 3: eighth man and shouldn't be scoring. And then he makes
- 50:04Speaker 3: a shot. But then we leave him in and he
- 50:07Speaker 3: tries to drive it and turn it over or gets
- 50:09Speaker 3: an offensive rebound and goes to the other team like
- 50:13Speaker 3: he's in too long. So that's my thought on guard.
- 50:15Speaker 2: I don't know why he played so much against Perdue.
- 50:18Speaker 2: I you know, he for most of the season, he's
- 50:20Speaker 2: been between that five and ten minute mark, which is fine,
- 50:24Speaker 2: But he played thirteen minutes against Purdue. I don't I
- 50:26Speaker 2: didn't get it if it was just the size thing.
- 50:29Speaker 2: But yeah, I agree that. Being said, he still has
- 50:32Speaker 2: a better shooting percentage than JaMarcus Lawrence has had over
- 50:35Speaker 2: the last five games. So here's that, as you will.
- 50:39Speaker 12: Here's the thing thing, whatever confidence Fragery and Lawrence lost,
- 50:42Speaker 12: he has gained.
- 50:43Speaker 4: I don't know where he gets confidence from.
- 50:45Speaker 3: It's like space.
- 50:46Speaker 2: He touched the basketball, and I don't think he's ever
- 50:49Speaker 2: lacked confidence.
- 50:50Speaker 3: I'll just say that, I don't think he at all.
- 50:53Speaker 3: I think he's always had that. And actually the Illinois
- 50:55Speaker 3: game he went up and scored all.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Let's not oh yeah, JaMarcus was good during the Illinois game.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Let's not shared.
- 51:06Speaker 12: The main thing to him is let's not leave me
- 51:08Speaker 12: in long enough to where, you know, oh, for six,
- 51:10Speaker 12: because he will keep firing like there's no stopping that guy.
- 51:13Speaker 4: We're shooting.
- 51:16Speaker 12: I actually, I don't think he's a bath through point shooting.
- 51:18Speaker 12: Now if he put he puts on the ground, which
- 51:20Speaker 12: he showed against Purdue horrible. I don't I don't get
- 51:23Speaker 12: what happened in the Illinois game. He was a playmaker.
- 51:26Speaker 12: I don't know what they'll happen there. But if that
- 51:28Speaker 12: guy gets, like you said, two shots him, take him
- 51:31Speaker 12: out because he's gonna start trying and do some crazy
- 51:33Speaker 12: stuff and we don't need that.
- 51:36Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, let's move on only if you guys, let's
- 51:40Speaker 3: go to bark. Save in our best players hereper last.
- 51:43Speaker 3: But I think here's I always feel like he's our
- 51:51Speaker 3: I wanna call him a goofy player, but you kind
- 51:54Speaker 3: of play spirit free. He can have some moments where
- 51:58Speaker 3: everybody gets fired up and goes nuts on. That's what
- 52:01Speaker 3: we need. A couple of moments from k It might
- 52:03Speaker 3: be a dump down dunk, it might it might be
- 52:06Speaker 3: a time where he gets a little on him and
- 52:09Speaker 3: because he's done it in the past, where he'll just
- 52:10Speaker 3: go and score one on one because he can, because
- 52:13Speaker 3: he's physically strong enough to do that. I don't want
- 52:16Speaker 3: to see a barri K three attempted.
- 52:19Speaker 4: Neal right there.
- 52:21Speaker 3: I think he needs to be a big time rebounder
- 52:24Speaker 3: of this game, most importantly when he's in uh, and
- 52:28Speaker 3: I think he can do a good job of that.
- 52:31Speaker 3: I think our system hides him on defense, which is
- 52:33Speaker 3: which is good. I don't think he moves his feet great,
- 52:36Speaker 3: but I think he has a good job at the rim,
- 52:37Speaker 3: So I think his job is going to be a
- 52:40Speaker 3: lot of times guarding and boxing out that number ten
- 52:44Speaker 3: for them, that post player, and doing a lot of that.
- 52:47Speaker 3: So uh again, I think we need a moment or
- 52:51Speaker 3: two from him though, to really fire us up. And
- 52:53Speaker 3: I think he can do that because he's that type
- 52:55Speaker 3: of player.
- 52:56Speaker 2: You think we don't use it properly, you know, ever
- 52:58Speaker 2: since he had that triple double, we haven't really been
- 53:01Speaker 2: using his game. It's kidding. Yeah, I would like to
- 53:06Speaker 2: see more than three rebounds from him, that's for sure.
- 53:08Speaker 2: But I think he's good defensively, and I do think
- 53:13Speaker 2: he's smart when he takes his shots. He takes the
- 53:15Speaker 2: one dumb three pointer every game, but outside of that,
- 53:18Speaker 2: he's not forcing anything, which maybe sometimes I kind of
- 53:20Speaker 2: wanted to force it a little bit more to try
- 53:22Speaker 2: to draw contact, but he's probably gonna miss his free throws.
- 53:25Speaker 2: So yeah, he shoots. So he for a for a
- 53:30Speaker 2: six foot ten guy, he shoots no free throws because
- 53:33Speaker 2: he does not try to score. It's crazy. I don't
- 53:38Speaker 2: know if you guys have noticed that. It was like,
- 53:40Speaker 2: just put your arms up and someone's gonna slap you
- 53:42Speaker 2: at some.
- 53:42Speaker 3: Point our game.
- 53:45Speaker 12: You listening to this, for love of God, just rebound.
- 53:48Speaker 12: We don't need anything. I don't want to see you
- 53:50Speaker 12: shoot the ball once and if you do, we know
- 53:53Speaker 12: that's not going. It's any in the back roun You
- 53:55Speaker 12: break harder anyone out there so quick shooting the ball.
- 53:59Speaker 12: Rebound and get those easy layups they've been get in
- 54:02Speaker 12: the last couple of games. Do not shoot the ball,
- 54:04Speaker 12: and he's another one. If he shoots two threes, you
- 54:06Speaker 12: gotta pull him.
- 54:07Speaker 4: He's gone.
- 54:09Speaker 3: I feel like we're maybe I mean late shot clock
- 54:12Speaker 3: again is one thing, like if he shoots, yeah, like
- 54:15Speaker 3: inside eight seconds, seven seconds, like you have to shoot
- 54:17Speaker 3: those right, But yeah, nothing early.
- 54:19Speaker 2: Please. He's had twelve games where he shot zero free throws.
- 54:24Speaker 2: That is a like that is insane that a six
- 54:27Speaker 2: foot ten post player has twelve of his thirty games
- 54:31Speaker 2: have no.
- 54:33Speaker 12: I feel like he hasn't had like a super domb
- 54:36Speaker 12: three in a while where I'm like, oh my god,
- 54:38Speaker 12: and he shot like I feel like he's.
- 54:40Speaker 4: Gone down on that.
- 54:41Speaker 2: He's only shot five threes since the first pretty loss.
- 54:46Speaker 4: So I mean, which is five too many.
- 54:48Speaker 2: But the last eight games he's shot five threes. That's
- 54:51Speaker 2: not anything crazy.
- 54:53Speaker 3: No, Okay, Dak, what do you who you want next?
- 55:01Speaker 4: Let's go price.
- 55:05Speaker 10: This guy.
- 55:06Speaker 12: I know he's our best player, but man, does he
- 55:09Speaker 12: just get thrown around like a rag doll down low
- 55:11Speaker 12: over on rebounds. He is, I'm just gonna say, a
- 55:14Speaker 12: horrible rebounder. Like I I just can't stand him watching
- 55:20Speaker 12: him download. He could just eat big guys, just throw
- 55:22Speaker 12: him around down there, and I if he can grab
- 55:26Speaker 12: let's say four to six rebounds this game, that's perfect
- 55:30Speaker 12: for him. Obviously he's getting knock down and shots. You
- 55:31Speaker 12: hope he's shown all years, so why wouldn't he? But
- 55:36Speaker 12: but I just think his rebounding kills us sometimes that's funny.
- 55:42Speaker 2: I disagree. I think he's really fall on as a rebounder.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Would you like to guess who he everages five rebounds
- 55:51Speaker 2: a game, like you know, he had four against Purdues seven, five, six,
- 55:58Speaker 2: eight nine.
- 56:00Speaker 4: I mean.
- 56:02Speaker 2: I feel like he's coming around. He does get pushed around,
- 56:04Speaker 2: don't get me your own, but.
- 56:06Speaker 4: I feel like it's island cluff he got. He got
- 56:08Speaker 4: just ragdalled.
- 56:10Speaker 2: Yeah, the first time he gets how we got ragged all.
- 56:13Speaker 2: The second time he got seven rebounds. Part of that,
- 56:17Speaker 2: Part of that was I just think who's on him
- 56:19Speaker 2: and where he's at in the post. Again, I don't
- 56:22Speaker 2: think he's someone you went down there banging around for rebounds,
- 56:24Speaker 2: but I think his long arms have helped them. I
- 56:26Speaker 2: think he's kind of figuring it out.
- 56:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, must be real prices who he ask man.
- 56:31Speaker 3: He's got some lengths, sneaky length and that helps him
- 56:34Speaker 3: on the defensive end for a lot of reasons. And
- 56:37Speaker 3: what we need him to do is be able to
- 56:39Speaker 3: be open and make shots right. And I think games
- 56:43Speaker 3: that our offense struggles is when teams are able to
- 56:47Speaker 3: not let him get a shot up. And a lot
- 56:50Speaker 3: of our actions, if you watch all our stuff that
- 56:53Speaker 3: we you know we have quite a few are designed
- 56:57Speaker 3: for him coming off stuff or be around the ball
- 57:01Speaker 3: to either get a shot or set somebody else up
- 57:05Speaker 3: for a shot. If teams can take that away, that's
- 57:10Speaker 3: when we get very stagnant and we don't really have
- 57:13Speaker 3: We don't have a Bryce Williams from last year where
- 57:16Speaker 3: we can bail us out like shot clock and hit
- 57:18Speaker 3: a tough shot. We don't have that, So like we
- 57:21Speaker 3: need to be able to get him open. I think
- 57:24Speaker 3: we will. Like I think that's what makes me feel
- 57:26Speaker 3: good about offense, especially they try to go to that
- 57:29Speaker 3: matchup z own, but even our I don't just watching them,
- 57:33Speaker 3: I'm not sure who they're going to stick with Price
- 57:37Speaker 3: for the entire forty minutes. And if we can get
- 57:41Speaker 3: him loose a couple early, even if it's off of
- 57:44Speaker 3: oh boards, that open stuff up for the rest of
- 57:48Speaker 3: our offense, it really does. And then we'll talk about rank.
- 57:50Speaker 3: I think the same applies to him early on getting
- 57:52Speaker 3: him a look and making it. But I think that's
- 57:57Speaker 3: a big thing. That's two prices. That's what he does
- 57:59Speaker 3: when he is able to get stuff, and a lot
- 58:01Speaker 3: of that's not him making shots because he's he makes
- 58:03Speaker 3: him when he gets him open. It's just him getting
- 58:05Speaker 3: shots in general, which goes back to scheming and coaching.
- 58:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I do. I will agree. Yeah, Defensively, he's he's
- 58:19Speaker 2: on the court because he can shoot the three. Like,
- 58:22Speaker 2: I don't want to make Price this he's gotta be.
- 58:25Speaker 2: He is the best player on our team.
- 58:27Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 58:29Speaker 2: But he doesn't have to do everything. And yeah, he's
- 58:32Speaker 2: fourth in rebounding, but he's averaging five rebounds a game.
- 58:35Speaker 2: But he's also putting up seventeen points and you know,
- 58:37Speaker 2: three assists. Like I am not, I'm not really that
- 58:42Speaker 2: critical of Price. I think he's doing everything how I
- 58:47Speaker 2: would expect him to do it.
- 58:49Speaker 3: I'll be he's a very limited player, right, he's he's like,
- 58:53Speaker 3: he's not a he's not a three level scorer. Right.
- 58:56Speaker 3: He can he can, he can't. He can do some
- 58:59Speaker 3: of those things.
- 59:00Speaker 2: He can cut and hit threes on offense, and his
- 59:04Speaker 2: ability to do those things creates offense for others. And similarly,
- 59:09Speaker 2: on defense, he's long and that's about you know, that's
- 59:12Speaker 2: where his skill set is is he can disrupt it
- 59:14Speaker 2: with his length, but he's not gonna be able to
- 59:16Speaker 2: physically body people and he's not gonna snag rebounds, but
- 59:19Speaker 2: he's gonna position himself.
- 59:20Speaker 12: Yes, you know, you know, boys, I messed up. Why
- 59:25Speaker 12: I turn this into a negative Price talk, I don't know.
- 59:28Speaker 12: You are the reason we're here.
- 59:32Speaker 2: He came out with a strong dancer. Let me disagree
- 59:35Speaker 2: with you on that. I think I think he's doing okay,
- 59:40Speaker 2: But I do agree the focus needs to be on
- 59:42Speaker 2: getting Price open because that's the key to our offense,
- 59:45Speaker 2: because the space that our threes create.
- 59:51Speaker 3: All right, Rank, I think my story is similar for him.
- 59:55Speaker 3: We need we need to rank to knock down a
- 59:57Speaker 3: shot early. I think all of our games are our
- 59:59Speaker 3: offense is really clicking. It's because teams are worried about
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: him getting even if it's a contested shot, but him
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: making an outside shot from the top of the key
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: like that. That is where one of our strengths are.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Is when you can pull that big out whoever's guarding
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: him and open up that lane. It allows us then
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: to get to the rim. And then then you got
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: to pick and choose what you're defending. So I think
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: that's a big piece. I also think it's a big
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: if Rank can score down low yeah, against whoever they
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: decide to put up on. You know, I'm guessing it's
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: gonna be bellowing number ten. But you know if that
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: thirty three, I don't know what it is. And if
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: they do have that, are they going to decide to double? Okay,
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: if they don't decide to double, then Rank's got to
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: score one on one. If they do double, that's going
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: to create open looks for other people. And if we
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: can go extra extra and find price even for an
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: open three, like our offense will be that way too.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: And we've done that at times this year. It's not
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: like it's not like we people say, well, we don't
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: ranked in the poet. If we have the matchup, Fred
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: identifies that and we'll go into him. There's been games
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: that we just don't because Rank's not like this huge
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: physical force. He's not, but he can be given the
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: right matchup. I think this could be one of those
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: games that he could physically impose himself inside with his
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: size and then see what happens, what opens up the
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: rest of the game.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: Hunter turned into a little bit of a newspaper boy
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: there from the twenties. Extra extra, We gotta get an
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: extra extra. You probably didn't have noticed you said it,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: but you did. No, I don't disagree. I think the
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: down low is the important. Obviously, hitting the threes. Again,
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: we're talking about that spacing. But if you had to
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: guess how many shots ranked shot out within the three
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: point arc against Purdue on Frank one, he had one
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: shot and he's six foot ten.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: Yeah, what do we do?
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: I get it produce big, but come on, we gotta
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: there's to be something down there. That's kind of.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: So.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: I I agree that three point shots important, idiot, but
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: I want to see some of those low post move
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: that I saw that just kind of helps him get
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: in rhythm. Keeping those percentages, you know, the shooting percentage up,
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: giving lower less opportunities for rebounds with those higher percentage
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: of close shots.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: The joke is there's like, you know, memes of Frank
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Mass missing layups because he does do it a fair amount.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: But I mean him and Ray or him and Price
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: or they're their offensive cogs. Like that's that is our offense.
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I just go for a deck.
- 1:02:43Speaker 12: No, no, you got I just feel like he's and
- 1:02:46Speaker 12: this probably has to do the other guy struggling now
- 1:02:47Speaker 12: to he's playmaking in passing. He's a hell of a passer,
- 1:02:50Speaker 12: and I just don't know where that's gone, what's happened?
- 1:02:53Speaker 12: It feels like since Fragger and him he was sick
- 1:02:56Speaker 12: and I can't passing.
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I don't think you're passing goes away.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: It's not like he's I think that's it. That's a
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: that's teams are stopped, are defending us better and taking
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: away our scheme. I don't think. I don't think you
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: just all of a sudden become a shitty pastor. I
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: don't think like that's not something that comes and goes.
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: I mean, obviously if you're forcing stuff, but he's not
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: forcing stuff.
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: No, I think he needs to force more.
- 1:03:19Speaker 12: Like I'd be totally fine with him driving in and
- 1:03:23Speaker 12: shooting fifteen shots in the paint this game, Like, just
- 1:03:26Speaker 12: do it.
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: I'm not talking about his passing, not shooting.
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: Oh you're talking anyway. Just be more physical download rank
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: that that's.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: That's all you say.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: You just yeah, the pying, Okay, be more physical.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: Rank all Sammy boy.
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: Uh Man.
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: What a year it's been for him. I think maybe
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: out of anybody, he's had the most consistent year, and
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: because consistently above expectations on what he's been able to
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: do and accomplish on both ends of the floor, especially
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: his defense and some of the plays that he makes
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: on that end. You know, he's led us in rebounding.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: I don't think he is currently, but he's he's one
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: of our top four rebounders. He's had some games where
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: he's really went off scoring the ball. He's shooting it
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: very very well. I think, you know, I saw at
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: one point did someone say he was shooting it like
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: a we're fifty percent at some like over some span.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Like he is really asight now for the year for shooting.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: He is fifty five percent for field goal for three
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: throw So but yeah, there, I mean, there you go.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: I just think that he talk about a blue guy.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: You know that that metric's been out there and graphics everywhere.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: Obviously being a coaches kid as well, and really came
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: along as a player here where I don't think many
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: people thought he would be able to. I think this
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: is Sam's chance to go out and have a moment,
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: and you know, I think it'll be really cool if
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: we can get a win here. And you know, Sam
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: has a couple of those Sam moments that we all
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: know of, the steels and the breakaways and the scrappy hustle,
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: dive on the floor, loose ball, time out, extra possession,
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: all of those things that he does for us, like
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: that that is that's going to be what really gets
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: this crowd just absolutely out of their seats.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: Is he everybody's favorite player?
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean I mean yeah, not liked the guy right, Like,
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: there's nothing that you can he doesn't.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: He doesn't take dumb shots, Nope. He's smart defensively, he
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: doesn't make dumb turnovers. He had a real rough game
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: against Iowa, but he ended up closing it out over time.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: It Yeah, I mean, there's nothing outside of his free
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: throw shooting that you wish was a little bit better,
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: which is surprising as a coach's son that you're shooting
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: five percent for free throws. But he's just he's not
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: gonna be a liability. I'm not worried about him, right.
- 1:06:02Speaker 12: He's the perfect play you want, and he's won and
- 1:06:04Speaker 12: done games because he's going to make the winning play
- 1:06:06Speaker 12: at the end.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: That's that's why, Sean.
- 1:06:09Speaker 12: And how many times are you going to have the
- 1:06:10Speaker 12: breakaway steel PI two or three times a game? You
- 1:06:12Speaker 12: know that's coming, hope.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Last thing I'll say here as we finish out our preview,
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: I I think rebounding is probably one of the most
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: important things. Dax brought it up several times too. I
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: do think that's a very big factor here. I think
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: if we win the rebounding battle, we have a good
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: chance at winning the game. I do think it's very
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: important that we get off to a strong start.
- 1:06:38Speaker 7: Now.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: I don't think we need to panic, and I hope
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: we don't panic if we don't, But if we can
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: get out to a strong eight to ten point lead,
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: and you know, in the first ten minutes of the game,
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: I do think we are going to play a lot looser,
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: and we're going to ride the momentum of the crowd,
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: and it's going to be a very fun game. Which
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: I should put an asterisk next to that, because that's
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: exactly what happened against A and M a couple of
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: years ago. And then we just hit a brick wall
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: and things went south quickly.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: I mean Texas A and M. Scorcher.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Yeah, let's just put it this way. They're you know,
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: I kind of do the same little watching them play
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: before we played them and got a scout. They were
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: doing things that they have not shown to do all year. Now, maybe.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Say, when you have a player like he's only hit
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: three three pointers his entire career, and he goes four
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: for five for his.
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: First Yeah, they were like bottom ten shooting.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: I'm saying that with caution, but I do think that
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: if we can get out to a hot start, especially
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: the crowd Memphis was very, very pro Nebraska crowd. I
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: mean the streets were ninety five percent Nebraska fans in Memphis, Tennessee.
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: I mean, okay See is going to just be watched.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Oh you know, it's gonna it's gonna be a very
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: fun atmosphere. And even though it's the eleven forty game,
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: it's going to be filled with Husker fans. And if
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: we can get off to a hot star the first
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: ten minutes of the game, I think that's very important
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: for the outcome. Now, if we don't, I don't think
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: we need to think, oh, we can't win this. I
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: just think we could be in a dogfight and it
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: could be a you know, a couple of one or
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: two possession game come down the wire. Like I said,
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: I think Troy has the pieces and they do enough
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: good things that they can hang right with this. I
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: think we have the better players, but you don't want
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: to leave it up to shooting. You don't want to say, well,
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: we had a bad shooting night and they shot it. Well,
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: you don't ever want to leave it up to that,
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: and I don't think it will, but they just do
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: enough things that makes you, yeah, you just get a
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: little worrisome on how the game could go. So I'm
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: picking us to win. I actually think if I had to,
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: I actually think we'll probably cover. I do think we
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: again have the better players. But you just you just
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: that pressure factor and just how we've kind of finished
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: the year out gives it gives you a little bit
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: of caution.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: You know, you don't march madness. You don't want to say, yeah,
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: I probably agree. I always said taking us to win,
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: but I also think we'll probably cover. I just I
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: here's how I expect the game to go. I think
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: the first half, we're gonna be up by three at
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: the end of the first half, and then we're gonna
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: come out of the second half and by the end
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: of it, we're gonna pull away win by like seventeen.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: Yeah, and I will say the team echo Austin, what
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: you kind of said to is to add to my thought.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: I do think teams that we don't match up well
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: with are your like just physical attacking downhill? I mean
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: what A and M was I for what plays that way?
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: They're just they they just are. Now I always got
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: a lot of white guys too, but just physical as heck.
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: Do you know they just drive it at you. I
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: also don't think we do well with as well when
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: they have a stud like when the teams have a
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: really really good player, because we're more schematic based, so
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: it's that person can get lost and get open. I
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: do think stylistically, this team that we play in physical
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: physically is a good matchup for us defensively and offensively.
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: I just think we're they're us, but they're not as
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: good as us.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: Right there, their guards are said, their guards are a
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: little bit undersized, which helps with our undersized guards as well.
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:10:36Speaker 12: So, yeah, I have Nebraska playing seventy sixty sixty one.
- 1:10:41Speaker 12: I think Nebraska comes out hot this game.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: Mark it down.
- 1:10:43Speaker 12: They're gonna be up twenty to five at the undertained
- 1:10:45Speaker 12: time out. But wow, yeah, I think I think come
- 1:10:50Speaker 12: out with the crowd and the energy and yeah, to
- 1:10:52Speaker 12: shoot the lights out of that.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: I think under a marathon, if I nailed on.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: The head, no, I I think we'll lock those two
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: red heads up.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: And yeah, that's what I feel better that one of
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: their their core players is six foot one.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Daks. I think Dak's here was buddy Dak.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: I think it really hung up on these two redheads.
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: They're their fourth and fifth options in the court. You
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: gotta remember they're not their best players.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: Right, So yeah, I'm just getting flashbacks. Ain't mto them
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: shooting the lights out and I can see these no
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: But I do think they are good shooters. Don't get
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: me wrong, but I do think there's other focuses on
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: the court that we have to be worried about. It's
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: not just locking those two up because other guys are
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: gonna get a lot of shots. So like that their
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: best players are not those two players. They're part of it,
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: but that they're not. That's not their best two. So
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: just keep that in mind.
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: We don't have to worry about the other big dudes.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: We got bur K.
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: It's not really the big dude. It's a stretch forward's.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: Guards.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: So okay, Well, Austin will see down o K see Dak.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: We will not.
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: I'll be sure to tune in the the women's bubble
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: game levin seed?
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: Is that tomorrow? Is that Wednesday?
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: Wednesday?
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: I might be tuned into that. Yeah, probably will because
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: there'll be nothing.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: I figured you'd go to Durham.
- 1:12:25Speaker 12: I can watched the women's game even know where they played.
- 1:12:28Speaker 12: I thought maybe the city have no idea where that
- 1:12:32Speaker 12: game was.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: I thought maybe they. I thought maybe the women hosted.
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: I have no idea.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: And we'll for sure be back next week. We'll be
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: doing either a season recap recap or a sweet review.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Who all right, go Big Red TV or.
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: Go Big Red.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: U. And through the night, southbound out of Lincoln, red jerseys,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: flags in the wind, car after car, mile after mile.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: Wednesday night turns into Thursday morning. No sleep, Just believe
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: Oklahoma City getting closer. I'm closer. You ever seen a
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: red sea.
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: Travel sun starts to rise and now you see it,
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: red fill in the streets, red in every direction?
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: What car chen cars, A thousand more.
- 1:13:59Speaker 7: They said, ain't never won a game. They say press
- 1:14:03Speaker 7: aways heavy, they say try can put an off set.
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: They don't know Nebraska will possess a red tide.
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: Eleven forty two.
- 1:14:23Speaker 6: Yet we ready on site.
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: Don't be read.

- 1:15:28Speaker 3: They talking pressure first win ever talk it's to read.
- 1:15:31Speaker 7: Heavy every step that we walk.
- 1:15:33Speaker 9: Pressure, don't shake. What's built in the ground. Pig tin testing, Yeah,
- 1:15:37Speaker 9: we built for the time, praying on the sideline, calm
- 1:15:40Speaker 9: in the store. Puts it down in every plate gets torn.
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: We don't feel, weake, We don't care.
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: Read down to think this down. Yeah, we'll play it out.
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: So he stepped in, but he stepped being red. See
