Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Writers are creative by nature and we like our independence.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: One of the reasons that we do this in the first place is to have control over our creative work.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: That's why we write.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: We want to express ourselves, we want to make a difference in the world, or maybe even we want to make a living with our writing.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: In short, we value autonomy and independence as writers.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Why then do we give up so easily when it comes to making time to write?
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: If we say that writing is important, then why do we let everybody else's needs and priorities crowd out our writing time?
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: If you want control and independence, you're going to have to fight for it.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It must be defended.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: The author of the wildly successful book, Steal Like an Artist, Austin Cleon, said this: We have so little control over our lives.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: The only thing we can really control is what we spend our days on, what we work on, and how hard we work on it.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Your writing time is like a medieval castle that's constantly under siege from the enemy.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Sometimes those quote-unquote enemies are friends and family members who want our time, but we must be decisive, maybe even at times a little bit ruthless, about making and guarding that writing time.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: If you don't, you'll never reach your writing goals.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: The dreams out there in the distance start with the writing minutes right in front of you today.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Here's your daily question.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Are you willing to fight for control for your writing time?
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I want to take a moment to let you know about our daily writer membership community.
