- 0:03Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Our off season to do list start now alphabetical order.
- 0:09Speaker 1: A is for Arizona Diamondbacks.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Jack Summers joins us right now and you can hear
- 0:13Speaker 2: them on Snake's Territory also Dbacks on SIV writer for
- 0:17Speaker 2: Sports Illustrated. Jack, Great to see you again, and first off,
- 0:21Speaker 2: can you just lay out a little preview of what
- 0:24Speaker 2: your off season to do list is for the Diamondbacks
- 0:27Speaker 2: and then we'll go one by one.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Sure, probably like all thirty teams in Major League Baseball,
- 0:32Speaker 3: they need to add pitching, but they severely need to
- 0:34Speaker 3: add pitching. They need two starting pitchers to add to
- 0:38Speaker 3: their rotation. Zach g Allen, Mery Kelly free agents, of course,
- 0:42Speaker 3: and Corbyn Burns is out until at least the All
- 0:45Speaker 3: Star break, so they need to bring on at least
- 0:48Speaker 3: two starters. They may go aggressively try to trade for
- 0:53Speaker 3: a higher frontline starter. I don't think they have the
- 0:56Speaker 3: dollars to sign a frontline starter and then possibly backfill
- 1:01Speaker 3: with a more bargain basement fifth starter. At the same time,
- 1:05Speaker 3: they need to add a closer and or a couple
- 1:09Speaker 3: of high leverage relievers. Mike Haysen in the past him
- 1:13Speaker 3: and his front office have kind of gravitated towards this
- 1:16Speaker 3: closer by committee situation, which doesn't really work for them.
- 1:22Speaker 3: And I pressed him a little bit on it. Are
- 1:23Speaker 3: you going to try to get a closer this year?
- 1:25Speaker 3: And he said probably a little reluctantly, But I know
- 1:29Speaker 3: that Tory Leavello prefers to have a closer as opposed
- 1:33Speaker 3: to doing the committee route. And with eight years of
- 1:36Speaker 3: history of having one of the weakest bullpens in the league,
- 1:39Speaker 3: with a few exceptions here and there, this is a
- 1:43Speaker 3: spot that they have to fill. Justin Martinez and aj
- 1:46Speaker 3: Park are both out until the second half of the season.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Puck might come back a little bit sooner. He had
- 1:52Speaker 3: the brace procedure as opposed to Tommy john So you know,
- 1:56Speaker 3: you can't really count on those guys they got. They
- 1:58Speaker 3: need a closer. They bought the brought in a bunch
- 2:00Speaker 3: of young guys at the trade deadline, some pretty good
- 2:04Speaker 3: relievers to backfill. But they need a closer, and then
- 2:08Speaker 3: they need a right handed bat. It could be a
- 2:11Speaker 3: first baseman. They need a platoon mate for Peven Smith,
- 2:14Speaker 3: who's a left handed hitter who's likely going to get
- 2:17Speaker 3: most of the reps at first base, but then they
- 2:19Speaker 3: need a short side platoon guy. They also really could
- 2:23Speaker 3: use a Randall Gritchet type person to fill that similar
- 2:28Speaker 3: role because Lordus Guriel Junior is also out the first
- 2:32Speaker 3: half of the season at least due to an ACL tear,
- 2:36Speaker 3: so they need a right handed out feel bad. So
- 2:39Speaker 3: on top of that, beyond that top three bullet points,
- 2:43Speaker 3: they actually need a backup catcher as well. James McCann
- 2:46Speaker 3: came in and did a great job for them, and actually,
- 2:50Speaker 3: by the end of the season was catching more than
- 2:52Speaker 3: Gabrielle Marino because of concerns over pitch calling and how
- 2:56Speaker 3: well McCann is at that, and Marino is kind is
- 3:00Speaker 3: struggling with it. So the Dbacks certainly need a backup catcher.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I think they'd like to bring mccam back, but when
- 3:06Speaker 3: I spoke to him at the end of the season,
- 3:08Speaker 3: he was very noncommittal about returning.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Okay, Jack, where where do we start? We started with
- 3:14Speaker 4: the first one they need pictures? Was that Gallen still there?
- 3:17Speaker 4: Why can't they just resign that gown? They don't like
- 3:19Speaker 4: him that much. I mean, that seems like an obvious
- 3:22Speaker 4: one to me, But I mean, who would be the
- 3:24Speaker 4: other starting pitcher. Are they going to go fishing in
- 3:26Speaker 4: the deep waters? Are they going to try to you know,
- 3:29Speaker 4: lure hopefully a base bargain guy, because you know, for
- 3:33Speaker 4: a long time this is supposed to be their strength
- 3:35Speaker 4: with Fought and Kelly and Gallen, Edward Rodriguez. You know,
- 3:40Speaker 4: So who do they go get? And why would they
- 3:42Speaker 4: just let Gallen walk? Why not try to sign him?
- 3:45Speaker 3: Well? With Gallen, I think to sign scott Or's client,
- 3:48Speaker 3: to sign him to a long term deal is going
- 3:50Speaker 3: to take them out of their comfort zone financially. Ownership
- 3:53Speaker 3: has said that they're cutting payroll this year, and with
- 3:56Speaker 3: fifty million dollars of dead money on the roster due
- 3:59Speaker 3: to all the injuries, they probably only have somewhere in
- 4:02Speaker 3: the thirty to forty million dollar range to spend. They're
- 4:06Speaker 3: certainly going to give Zach Allen the qualifying offer, and
- 4:09Speaker 3: he's certain to reject it. There's a pretty good chance
- 4:13Speaker 3: that they may try to bring Meryl Kelly back. Merril
- 4:15Speaker 3: has indicated a very strong desire to stay in Arizona.
- 4:19Speaker 3: He lives here, he loves it here. He's an Arizona guy.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I think he would like nothing better than to be
- 4:25Speaker 3: able to come back, but he's not going to come
- 4:27Speaker 3: back for peanuts. If they lowball them, he'll go where
- 4:30Speaker 3: he's going to get paid. Of course, one thing that
- 4:33Speaker 3: Jesse Freeman and I floated, you know, Hunter Green was
- 4:37Speaker 3: put out there on an article by MLB dot Com
- 4:40Speaker 3: as a potential trade candidate for the Reds to use
- 4:44Speaker 3: to bolster their offense. And if you really want to
- 4:47Speaker 3: go blockbuster, they could perhaps trade, say he could Tell
- 4:50Speaker 3: Marte for Hunter Green. Green's got four years of control
- 4:54Speaker 3: of sixty one million dollars. He's had his injury history,
- 4:58Speaker 3: but this past year was growing injuries, not arm or elbow,
- 5:02Speaker 3: and you know, when he's on the field, he's an
- 5:04Speaker 3: ACE level starter and he's young with four years of controls.
- 5:08Speaker 3: So that's one possibility. I think that the Diamondbacks are
- 5:12Speaker 3: very much going to have to pursue the trade route
- 5:15Speaker 3: to fill most of their holes. If they were going
- 5:18Speaker 3: to go after, say, Mackenzie Gore from the Nationals, in
- 5:22Speaker 3: that case, you're probably looking at more of a prospects deal.
- 5:25Speaker 3: But they're gonna have to peel off two or three
- 5:26Speaker 3: guys out of their top five prospects just to get
- 5:29Speaker 3: him away from the Nationals. I think it's going to
- 5:32Speaker 3: have to come more via trade, and they're gonna have
- 5:34Speaker 3: to be aggressive with trades as opposed to a lot
- 5:37Speaker 3: of free agent signing.
- 5:39Speaker 5: All right, payroll rollback.
- 5:41Speaker 4: So does that mean that they were deeked by the
- 5:44Speaker 4: fact that they made it to the World Series in
- 5:48Speaker 4: twenty I don't remember now twenty two or twenty three,
- 5:51Speaker 4: twenty three, And so does that mean that they were
- 5:55Speaker 4: deeped by that? Because I remember when they signed Jordan Montgomery.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Hey we saw ann flux of season ticket holders for
- 6:03Speaker 4: the twenty four season, so we had a little extra
- 6:05Speaker 4: money to spend. Was it poor planning or was it, hey,
- 6:08Speaker 4: you know what, we got two years to try to
- 6:11Speaker 4: get this thing done and then after that we got
- 6:13Speaker 4: to cut payroll back.
- 6:15Speaker 3: I think it's more the latter what you just said.
- 6:18Speaker 3: They got a windfall from that twenty three World Series.
- 6:21Speaker 3: They invested a lot in pitching. Of course, they tried
- 6:24Speaker 3: the Jordan Montgomery thing, and the Corbyn Burns then kind
- 6:28Speaker 3: of fell out of the sky. He contacted them, wanted to,
- 6:31Speaker 3: you know, go to Arizona, stay there because he lives there,
- 6:35Speaker 3: and so Ken Kendrick was willing to increase the payroll
- 6:39Speaker 3: beyond his comfort zone to make that happen. That was
- 6:42Speaker 3: actually his impetus. Mike Hazen was, you know, trapsing around
- 6:46Speaker 3: in the mountains of New Zealand with his kids hiking
- 6:49Speaker 3: when that opportunity came up, and Ken Kendrick was the
- 6:53Speaker 3: driver of the corbyn Burnsteel. In the past, Ken's been
- 6:56Speaker 3: known to kind of sandbag a little bit about what
- 6:59Speaker 3: he's willing to spend and end up spending over what
- 7:01Speaker 3: they've said, but both he and Derek Hall have said
- 7:04Speaker 3: that they're not going to be at quite the same
- 7:06Speaker 3: levels as they were the last two years. The last
- 7:09Speaker 3: two years back to back years, they set payroll records
- 7:12Speaker 3: for their franchise.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Okay, you mentioned you mentioned cornerbats. They had two cornerbats,
- 7:19Speaker 4: they traded them away and now it's Suarez and Naylor.
- 7:23Speaker 4: So are they going to look for maybe bring one
- 7:25Speaker 4: of them back if they can or you mentioned trades?
- 7:28Speaker 4: Can they do they have enough prospects to go trade
- 7:30Speaker 4: for cornerbats, starting pitcher, closer? I mean, do they have
- 7:34Speaker 4: this many prospects if they're not going to go on
- 7:36Speaker 4: free agency to trade for all these people and in
- 7:39Speaker 4: a tough division. I mean, let's be honest with the
- 7:41Speaker 4: Giants looking to go for it, the Dodgers back to
- 7:44Speaker 4: back world champs, the Padres are still going to be decent.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Do they have enough to compete?
- 7:49Speaker 3: I think the combination they do. And Mike Casan will
- 7:53Speaker 3: never back off trying to compete. I think you know
- 7:55Speaker 3: that about his reputation. He's you know, rebuild is a
- 7:58Speaker 3: dirty word. He did say they have thirty to forty
- 8:01Speaker 3: million dollars space in this year's payroll, so they're going
- 8:04Speaker 3: to be able to use some of that money. It's
- 8:05Speaker 3: going to have to be a combination of trades and
- 8:08Speaker 3: free agency. And you know, look, if they end up
- 8:11Speaker 3: ponying up big time for a pitcher, then they're going
- 8:13Speaker 3: to have to fill almost everything else by trade or
- 8:16Speaker 3: vice versa. If they're able to land a pretty good
- 8:19Speaker 3: pitcher like a Hunter Green via trade, then they can
- 8:23Speaker 3: use free agency dollars to fill some of the other gaps.
- 8:27Speaker 3: One name that they've been tied to is Paul Goldschmidt
- 8:30Speaker 3: as a possible return to be short side platoon. You know,
- 8:35Speaker 3: basically he still hits left handed pitching, doesn't hit right
- 8:38Speaker 3: handed pitching unfortunately anymore. But he could be a good
- 8:41Speaker 3: mentor to pave in Smith and pick up you know,
- 8:43Speaker 3: two hundred two d and fifty played appearances. And I
- 8:45Speaker 3: don't think it's going to cost more than six seven
- 8:48Speaker 3: ten million tops to bring book Goldie back for one year.
- 8:52Speaker 3: So that's that's one type of possibility. As far as
- 8:55Speaker 3: Suarez and Nailer, a big emphasis for the Diamondbacks is
- 9:00Speaker 3: improved defense. The defense was a lot better over the
- 9:03Speaker 3: last two months.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Of the year.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Gino, I love that man. I mean, he is just
- 9:08Speaker 3: one of the most genuine people in the world and
- 9:11Speaker 3: you couldn't be more happy than to see him have success. However,
- 9:15Speaker 3: his defense is really taking a big step back, and
- 9:17Speaker 3: I just don't see the Diamondbacks going down that road.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Similar with Naylor. He's a really good hitter, but his
- 9:23Speaker 3: defensive first base overall rates out quite poorly, well below average.
- 9:27Speaker 3: I don't think the team is willing to go back
- 9:29Speaker 3: down that road. They struggled on defense mightily in the
- 9:33Speaker 3: first four months of the season at those two positions.
- 9:36Speaker 4: You guys mentioned it a lot on Snake's territory. Go
- 9:40Speaker 4: tell Marte, you mentioned it a little bit here. You know,
- 9:43Speaker 4: the Hunter Green both of their offense. He's a perennial
- 9:47Speaker 4: top three MVP candidate. There's a little bit of scuttle
- 9:51Speaker 4: lot about you know, what was going on with the team,
- 9:54Speaker 4: and you know, is he there every day after the
- 9:57Speaker 4: All Star break? All that stuff is that's something that
- 10:01Speaker 4: the team could really push that trade and get maybe
- 10:05Speaker 4: like two or three big league ready pieces because he's
- 10:08Speaker 4: locked up I think until to that twenty thirty. Is
- 10:12Speaker 4: that new extension which teams for that kind of bat
- 10:15Speaker 4: that you know, it's an impact bat immediately into somebody's lineup,
- 10:18Speaker 4: which means the Diamondacks will be losing that impact bat.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Yeah, they control him for the next five years through
- 10:24Speaker 3: his age thirty six season. However, you know second basement
- 10:29Speaker 3: middle thirties, thirty five, thirty six, you know that's when
- 10:32Speaker 3: his contract gets more expensive too. It's kind of now
- 10:35Speaker 3: or never. You know, he's got ten and five rights
- 10:37Speaker 3: coming up I think in May or June of next
- 10:40Speaker 3: year based on service time. So you know, if they
- 10:43Speaker 3: want to trade him and try to use that level
- 10:47Speaker 3: of talent to fill in all of these holes, it's
- 10:51Speaker 3: now or never.
- 10:54Speaker 5: That's a yes, that's a yes. Then that's yes, Jack.
- 10:58Speaker 4: You just said it because they don't want to get
- 10:59Speaker 4: to ten to five. So yes, okay, so we can
- 11:02Speaker 4: look for kateel Marte And yesterday we heard Trek.
- 11:04Speaker 5: Schooble's name mentioned as possibly being traded.
- 11:06Speaker 4: So be a very busy offseason on Snake's territory because
- 11:10Speaker 4: we'll see who what they get.
- 11:12Speaker 5: But man, he could be worth so much as a trade.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Yeah. One thing I'll say is, you know, Cressey is
- 11:19Speaker 3: the phrase major league ready. They want frontline major league
- 11:24Speaker 3: talent back if they trade Katel, like, they're not going
- 11:26Speaker 3: to trade him for high end prospects that maybe just
- 11:29Speaker 3: had a whiff of major league baseball experience this past year,
- 11:32Speaker 3: or you know, a rookie or whatever. If they move
- 11:35Speaker 3: to tell Marte they're getting frontline pitching, or they don't
- 11:38Speaker 3: do it.
- 11:40Speaker 2: What do you think is the percentage chance that actually
- 11:43Speaker 2: happens a trade? As you mentioned, you can't do it.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I mean, let's say the Diamondbacks don't have a good
- 11:49Speaker 2: first half. You can't do it at the trade deadline.
- 11:51Speaker 2: You would have to do it sooner than that. It
- 11:52Speaker 2: gets tricky during the season. So if they're going to
- 11:54Speaker 2: do this, it really does have to happen over these
- 11:57Speaker 2: few months, and I guess you can add this to
- 11:59Speaker 2: your answer how pissed off would Diamondbacks fans be? He
- 12:02Speaker 2: seems like he's one of the more popular players for
- 12:06Speaker 2: a fan base with one guy on a team, right,
- 12:09Speaker 2: Like the Diamondbacks are not loaded. I mean, there are
- 12:12Speaker 2: some other names that they like, Cortman, Kyle Booke, Tel Marte,
- 12:15Speaker 2: a lot of personality. I mean, he's been what a
- 12:17Speaker 2: top three, top five MVP guy multiple times, had big
- 12:20Speaker 2: memories and moments for them in twenty twenty three, leading
- 12:23Speaker 2: that team to you know, a really great run in
- 12:26Speaker 2: twenty twenty three. So how beloved is he and how
- 12:29Speaker 2: pissed off would fans be if the return is not
- 12:33Speaker 2: going to help them be better in twenty twenty six,
- 12:36Speaker 2: which I think is hard to do.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Yeah, well that's why I'm kind of, you know, grasping
- 12:41Speaker 3: at straws, maybe at the Hunter Green concept, which I
- 12:45Speaker 3: actually really like. I mean, I think that that's actually
- 12:48Speaker 3: a perfect move for them if they're going to move him,
- 12:50Speaker 3: you know, because that guy he's a stut. I mean,
- 12:52Speaker 3: when he's healthy and on the mound, he is an
- 12:55Speaker 3: absolute stud. He can front anybody's rotation when healthy. So
- 13:00Speaker 3: you know, that's the level of talent that they'll need
- 13:01Speaker 3: to get to make them competitive. They do have a
- 13:04Speaker 3: lot of pretty good young middle infield prospects coming up,
- 13:08Speaker 3: and there's a couple of triple A that could maybe
- 13:10Speaker 3: you know, like a Tommy Troy of course, Jordan Lawler
- 13:13Speaker 3: that who finished up the year much better. They they
- 13:18Speaker 3: could come in and step in and fill the breach
- 13:20Speaker 3: at second base if they were able to get you know,
- 13:23Speaker 3: a large upgrade. I mean, don't forget the three remaining
- 13:25Speaker 3: starters that they have, Ryan Nelson, Brandon Fought and the
- 13:29Speaker 3: daughter of Rodriguez. Two of those guys just are coming
- 13:32Speaker 3: off five plus ERA seasons. The only one of those
- 13:35Speaker 3: three that they have holdovers that performed well was Ryan Nelson,
- 13:40Speaker 3: so you know he had a three three ninety RA.
- 13:42Speaker 3: So I mean they need a guy, They need a
- 13:46Speaker 3: real guy out there in front of that rotation. You know,
- 13:49Speaker 3: look when Corvin Burns comes back, you guys know, you
- 13:52Speaker 3: know Tommy John return ease. They don't just step right
- 13:55Speaker 3: into it and return to their cell. So it takes
- 13:57Speaker 3: some time, thinks and they ocontra right. You know, it's
- 14:01Speaker 3: not like they're gonna those guys are coming back from
- 14:03Speaker 3: injury in the second half of the season, going to
- 14:05Speaker 3: step right in. They're gonna take a half a year
- 14:07Speaker 3: or a year to get back to what they were
- 14:10Speaker 3: if they do.
- 14:12Speaker 2: This is great stuff and you can get an extended
- 14:15Speaker 2: version of this conversation on Snake's Territory. They have an
- 14:19Speaker 2: episode about Diamondbacks trade possibilities. They have an episode about
- 14:22Speaker 2: finding the perfect free agent targets for the d Backs.
- 14:26Speaker 2: There's the promo page Snake's Territory. Type it into YouTube
- 14:30Speaker 2: or wherever you get your pods. Jack wearing the merch
- 14:32Speaker 2: to Snake's Territory shop dot com. Jack great insight. Really
- 14:37Speaker 2: appreciate it. Love hearing you on the on the pod
- 14:40Speaker 2: and on the digital show at Jesse.
- 14:43Speaker 4: I can't thanks, guys have a great one thing before
- 14:46Speaker 4: before you go, I mean the Gaby Montero stuff was
- 14:49Speaker 4: like wait what?
- 14:52Speaker 5: Was like wait what? And he was the Gold Glove
- 14:56Speaker 5: winner or last there's two years ago, right.
- 14:59Speaker 3: There's been got his pitch calling and game calling. It
- 15:03Speaker 3: was something that they danced around quite a bit. It
- 15:08Speaker 3: started off where they were emphasizing how good McCann was
- 15:11Speaker 3: at it, and then they started talking about, well, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 3: it takes three to four years in the league before
- 15:16Speaker 3: you've really got enough experience. And then finally Tory Leavello
- 15:22Speaker 3: kind of let out a little bit verbally in public
- 15:26Speaker 3: press conferences that, yeah, there might be some issues there
- 15:29Speaker 3: with Gabby's game calling. And by the end of the season,
- 15:31Speaker 3: if you look at you know, McCann caught two thirds
- 15:33Speaker 3: of the game games over the last two weeks of
- 15:36Speaker 3: the year. You know, when they were fighting to try to,
- 15:39Speaker 3: you know, stay alive in that race, McCann was getting
- 15:42Speaker 3: the bulk of the catching duties and Marino was a dh.
- 15:46Speaker 3: He is young. I mean, it is going to take
- 15:47Speaker 3: some time and he's going to be the starter. But
- 15:50Speaker 3: he's also been injury prone, right, He's never started one
- 15:53Speaker 3: hundred games behind the plate. Last year he had a
- 15:57Speaker 3: little bad lucky fractured a finger. I think he started
- 15:59Speaker 3: six year before that eighty three, the year before that
- 16:03Speaker 3: ninety something. He's never even started one hundred games yet.
- 16:07Speaker 3: So durability and pitch calling are two concerns, and so
- 16:11Speaker 3: they need a really strong backup catcher'd be great if
- 16:14Speaker 3: they can bring McCann back, But my guest is McCann's
- 16:16Speaker 3: probably looking to go to a team that's a little
- 16:19Speaker 3: bit more of a short fire contender. He may have
- 16:22Speaker 3: questions or doubts about the dback's ability to contend in
- 16:25Speaker 3: twenty twenty six.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Jack, this was great, really good info. Thanks for joining us.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Reminded it everyone to check out Snake's territory. And if
- 16:35Speaker 2: you're catching us here, make sure you go back to
- 16:37Speaker 2: the top of the video for the offseason to do
- 16:39Speaker 2: list the top three.
- 16:40Speaker 1: From Jack Jack, Thank you, Thank you guys. Hey, let's
- 16:44Speaker 1: hit the.
- 16:44Speaker 2: BBWAA Award finalists. So I'm talking about MVP, cy Young,
- 16:49Speaker 2: Rookie of the Year, and Manager of the Year. The
- 16:51Speaker 2: big ones, the ones that we covered last year and
- 16:54Speaker 2: will do so again when they have that big award
- 16:57Speaker 2: ceremony in January. We'll give you more info on that
- 17:00Speaker 2: when it gets closer. Let's start with n L MVP
- 17:04Speaker 2: Tani on this list, Kyle Schwarber on this list, Juan
- 17:08Speaker 2: Soto on this list. So one Soto finished three or better?
- 17:13Speaker 2: Does that surprise you, guys? You think he's three? Right, Aja?
- 17:17Speaker 2: Is that what you're saying?
- 17:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they lined him up perfectly right there.
- 17:22Speaker 5: It's going to go.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Did win Player of the Year from the players? We
- 17:25Speaker 4: should have asked Max if he voted for Sho or Schwarmer.
- 17:28Speaker 1: I wanted to really badly, but we ran out of time.
- 17:31Speaker 4: I know there was too many other things that we
- 17:34Speaker 4: really needed to get to that were important. But yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 4: so had a good year. But I mean he's not
- 17:40Speaker 4: He's not in those other twos league at least this year,
- 17:43Speaker 4: we have.
- 17:43Speaker 5: A better year than Did he have a better year
- 17:45Speaker 5: than heralda Promo?
- 17:48Speaker 1: Did he have a better year than Trey Turner?
- 17:52Speaker 5: I think than Trey Turner.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Yes, okay, I think the stolen base has helped him
- 17:57Speaker 1: a lot. For Soto, that's huge.
- 18:00Speaker 4: I mean I could see somebody saying Soto had a
- 18:02Speaker 4: better year than Schwarber because of those stolen bases.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's not helping you much on defense.
- 18:09Speaker 5: I'll tell you, I would laugh too. I'm telling you
- 18:13Speaker 5: what is going to be out there?
- 18:15Speaker 4: No, I know it can be out there, and I
- 18:16Speaker 4: will laugh at every person that says that too. Mets
- 18:19Speaker 4: fans need a victory this year, so maybe that'll be
- 18:21Speaker 4: their small victory. Although they were the first ones to
- 18:24Speaker 4: line up and be like Soo, it's not as good
- 18:27Speaker 4: as you thought. He was not as good.
- 18:30Speaker 2: No, I think that's there's mixed reviews. I've asked some
- 18:35Speaker 2: people about one who are dedicated Mets fans, and mostly
- 18:39Speaker 2: I've gotten the yeah, he was not the problem. There
- 18:43Speaker 2: were many problems, he was not one of them. But
- 18:46Speaker 2: they're still Where would they be without him?
- 18:48Speaker 1: That's the question.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I mean, he was their best player this past season,
- 18:52Speaker 2: so they really weren't a good team before they signed him.
- 18:55Speaker 1: But anyway, let's move on. I'm not going to go
- 19:00Speaker 1: He's gonna go right back to Queens every year for
- 19:02Speaker 1: eternity and.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Hopefully for his case, he'll get some postseason action at
- 19:07Speaker 2: some point. Al MVP, it's Judge, it's cow and then
- 19:10Speaker 2: Jose Ramirez finished third. That's cool, al Cy Young, we
- 19:16Speaker 2: have Hunter Brown, Gya Crochet, Trek Scuobel. Those were the
- 19:19Speaker 2: three in the running the whole year. Christopher Sanchez, Paul Skins,
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yamamoto for NLSI Young. I want to jump to the managers.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So last year Stephen vote Won and Pat Murphy one.
- 19:33Speaker 2: They're both top three finishers. That doesn't happen very often.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I feel like it's just as often that a manager
- 19:40Speaker 2: goes from Manager of the Year to hot seat as
- 19:43Speaker 2: he goes to top three finisher. So it's John Schneider,
- 19:47Speaker 2: Steven Vote and Dan Wilson lining up on the American
- 19:50Speaker 2: League side, Terry Francona, Patrick Murphy again and Rob Thompson
- 19:55Speaker 2: on the National League side. Important note, this is just
- 19:59Speaker 2: four the regular season. AJ thoughts on the finalists here,
- 20:05Speaker 2: and it's an award that is certainly up for debate
- 20:08Speaker 2: in terms of how you judge it. Where the expectations, Matt,
- 20:11Speaker 2: But what do you think about this?
- 20:13Speaker 4: What you called him Patrick Murphy, which made me laugh
- 20:16Speaker 4: made me chuckle first, because I've never heard anyone call
- 20:18Speaker 4: him that. It's it's more of a name for him.
- 20:20Speaker 4: I'mna sart calling it Patrick when I see him.
- 20:23Speaker 5: But listen, I.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Said, I said, we've been saying it for a long time.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Then we could have back, we could have the same
- 20:28Speaker 4: winners again. We could have Vote and Patrick Murphy win.
- 20:31Speaker 4: But I think, honestly, Schneider's got a great chance at
- 20:34Speaker 4: winning that award in the American League and then nationally,
- 20:37Speaker 4: I think Tito's gonna might sneak in there because of
- 20:39Speaker 4: what the Red's making the playoffs and what he did
- 20:41Speaker 4: for that organization. So it could be the same winners again,
- 20:45Speaker 4: or it could be John Schneider and Tito. I mean,
- 20:50Speaker 4: I think John Schneider led the American League. You know,
- 20:53Speaker 4: they led his team the most wins in the American League,
- 20:55Speaker 4: so I think that's huge. But you know, and they
- 21:00Speaker 4: were last placed last year in the East. They went
- 21:04Speaker 4: all the way At first, I think it's probably the
- 21:07Speaker 4: route it's going to go with Schneid's but I think
- 21:10Speaker 4: Murph Murph should win it. Murph should win it again.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Brewers had the most wins in Major League Baseball.
- 21:18Speaker 5: I don't. I mean, I get it.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Cool, cool job that Terry Francone got the Reds, who
- 21:22Speaker 4: I think should have been in the playoffs the last
- 21:24Speaker 4: three years, to the playoffs.
- 21:26Speaker 5: That was nice.
- 21:27Speaker 4: And Topper, you know, the Phillies were supposed to be
- 21:30Speaker 4: really good and they didn't disappoint, so you know, he
- 21:33Speaker 4: did his job. I think, honestly, I think Dave Roberts
- 21:37Speaker 4: should be up there if you're putting Topper up there,
- 21:40Speaker 4: because I think Dave Roberts did an incredible job too,
- 21:43Speaker 4: and he has a great team to play with.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I'm with you.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I think Schneider wins it American League from last to first,
- 21:50Speaker 2: and the toughest division this year in the American League.
- 21:53Speaker 2: And then yeah, I think Burt's going to get it.
- 21:55Speaker 2: I mean, the Brewers had a magical run. They keep
- 21:57Speaker 2: losing players, and Murph was great.
- 22:01Speaker 1: We will talk more in.
- 22:02Speaker 4: The media, and the media loves Murphy's like a media Darlin.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Don't forget that, even though that shouldn't matter. It doesn't matter.
- 22:11Speaker 5: M
