- Sean Graver: So you asked, you planned ahead, you gave plenty of notice, and the answer was still no. It's your kids' thing at school. It's a family event that can't be rescheduled. I mean it's something that matters to you and your time, your life outside of this job. And it doesn't seem to factor into your boss's decision at all. And this isn't the first time. Good morning, I'm Sean, and this is Prayer Before Work. So King David writes in Psalm 3115, My times are in your hands. Six words. But they come in the middle of grief and fear. Now, David is not in a good season here. He is surrounded by people who are not on his side, and his circumstances feel completely out of control. And right in the middle of all that, he says, My times are in your hands. So let's not skip over the real problem here. A boss who consistently ignores your personal requests is a real frustration. And this verse, it's not an excuse to smile and absorb it forever. But advocating for your schedule, having a direct conversation, and even making hard decisions about whether this job still fits your life, all of that is fair and on the table. But here's what this verse addresses. That feeling that someone else is making all the decisions about what gets to matter to you, that your time isn't yours, that what you need and love and value s sits at the bottom of somebody else's list. Now David's confidence wasn't in his circumstances. It was something underneath his circumstances. When he says my times are in your hands, I mean I don't think he's just being Poetic, he's placing ultimate authority right where it belongs. And that's not with his enemies and not with other people around him, but with God. Your boss can say no to a request, but your boss does not have the last word on what your time is worth or what you don't get to miss. Let's pray. Lord, we feel it today. The frustration of asking for something reasonable and then getting nowhere. I mean, our time matters. The people and moments we're trying to show up for, they matter. So give us wisdom about how to keep advocating for that and give us peace about the things we can't change right now. And remind us that our schedule, our lives, things that matter to us, you see all of it. And my times are in your hands. And I am trusting that today, Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen. Now go make today count.
