- 0:15Speaker 1: This is Kevin Sports very Daily here on one oh
- 0:18Speaker 1: five point nine, bringing you the folks in a hive
- 0:20Speaker 1: sports show. On today's show, we have all the local
- 0:29Speaker 1: cricket scores, We've got some netball scores. We've got a
- 0:33Speaker 1: report on the Folkston coastal ten k, We've got a
- 0:36Speaker 1: preview of Saturday's I've bade triathlon and a few other
- 0:41Speaker 1: sporty snippets thrown in as well. And I shall be
- 0:49Speaker 1: telling you about my friend Dale's sixtieth birthday.
- 0:54Speaker 2: The theme, what a theme it was double denim? Wow
- 0:57Speaker 2: does that take you back?
- 1:03Speaker 1: And to be fair, nearly everybody turned up in double denim.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So settle down for an hour of local sport and
- 1:13Speaker 1: great music as we get this show on the road
- 1:17Speaker 1: with a bit of status quote rocking all over the world.
- 1:22Speaker 1: This is for you Dale, Happy birthday. M hm, status
- 2:01Speaker 1: quote out. That's for you Dale, Happy birthday. And what
- 2:09Speaker 1: a double denim do it was?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:11Speaker 1: It was Dale Beck's birthday, well, his birthday party last Saturday,
- 2:15Speaker 1: and me and missus Ferrick got uninvited because the theme
- 2:18Speaker 1: was double denim. And what a great theme you know.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I mean, I must admit I had a pair of jeans,
- 2:24Speaker 1: but I did have to chop around for a jacket,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but I found one and thinking that me and missus
- 2:30Speaker 1: Ferrett be the only ones in double denim. But the
- 2:32Speaker 1: place it was really new. It was like a step
- 2:35Speaker 1: back in time. It was they had had a great,
- 2:37Speaker 1: big marquee. He had two live bands, one of which
- 2:41Speaker 1: his son John was playing a drums on. They were
- 2:43Speaker 1: called Pool Club. They were so good, and then a
- 2:47Speaker 1: little later on in the evening another group called User Friendly.
- 2:50Speaker 1: There must have been about two hundred people there and
- 2:53Speaker 1: there was a Burger van as well. So it was
- 2:56Speaker 1: a fantastic afternoon. What a way to celebrate your sixtieth birthday.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So once again, Dale, thanks for the invite and a
- 3:02Speaker 1: big happy birthday. Okay, well we bet get on with
- 3:05Speaker 1: some sport, really shouldn't we? It is a sports show
- 3:07Speaker 1: after all.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Cricket now in the Kent Cricket League Championship Division. Folkston
- 3:13Speaker 1: traveled away to play Leeds and Broomfield up near Leeds Castle.
- 3:17Speaker 1: They won the tys and put Leeds into bat but
- 3:19Speaker 1: didn't count on Max Aitken making a double century. In fact,
- 3:22Speaker 1: he made two hundred and two runs to be precise,
- 3:25Speaker 1: before he was bowled by Stuart Graham and caught by
- 3:28Speaker 1: young Theo Coombs, who was in his first season in
- 3:31Speaker 1: the first team. So world un theo Leeds were eventually
- 3:34Speaker 1: bowled out for three hundred and eighty four for eight.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Folkston did py up a brave fight with Rueman Ahmed,
- 3:41Speaker 1: he was caught in bowl for ninety seven. Their final
- 3:44Speaker 1: score was two hundred and eight, so they lost the
- 3:46Speaker 1: game by one hundred and seventy six runs. This Saturday,
- 3:50Speaker 1: Dartford are the visitors to the Three Hills for a
- 3:52Speaker 1: twelve o'clock start. Pawlkinshall put into bat by betts Haanger
- 3:56Speaker 1: Colliery in a game that was shortened to thirty overs,
- 3:59Speaker 1: probably due to the weird former gets to the show
- 4:02Speaker 1: this chap Terry. Terry used to come on and talk
- 4:04Speaker 1: about darts, but he turns his hand to cricket as well.
- 4:08Speaker 1: He opened the scoring and made one hundred and sixty
- 4:11Speaker 1: two not out and wicket keeper Mike James added ninety
- 4:14Speaker 1: five before he was caught in bold. Final total was
- 4:17Speaker 1: two hundred and seventy eight for one. Betsanger made one
- 4:21Speaker 1: hundred and forty five for eight, so Hawkins won the
- 4:23Speaker 1: match by one hundred and thirty three runs.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Now, I couldn't find.
- 4:27Speaker 1: A fixture this Saturday for Hawkins. However, the following Saturday
- 4:31Speaker 1: they are away to Deal Victoria and Barnes close down
- 4:34Speaker 1: at the Grove.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Excuse me.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Hive Cricket Club won the toss and put Wilsbury into
- 4:39Speaker 1: bat who made one hundred and forty eight for nine.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Ive then took to the crease and made one hundred
- 4:44Speaker 1: and fifty two three. Top scorer was Tim Pichowski he
- 4:47Speaker 1: made sixty five, so they won the game by seven wickets.
- 4:51Speaker 1: This Saturday, Hive are away at Ash, which means a trip.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Ash is just not too far away from Sandwich. In
- 4:58Speaker 1: the local derby between Hive Green and Saltwood, the Green
- 5:01Speaker 1: won the toss and put Saltward into bat and made
- 5:03Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty four all out. Now, to be fair,
- 5:06Speaker 1: it's an achievable target. However, the Sialtwood bowlers were on
- 5:09Speaker 1: form or the Green were all bowled out for one
- 5:12Speaker 1: hundred and eleven runs, so Saltwood won the match by
- 5:16Speaker 1: just thirteen runs. So that was a bit of a
- 5:17Speaker 1: tight old local diary that fixtures this Saturday see Hive
- 5:21Speaker 1: Green away at Egerton, which is around nine miles outside
- 5:24Speaker 1: of Ashford, and Siltwood are at home to Nelson Cricket
- 5:27Speaker 1: Club who will travel around the coast from the Thanet
- 5:31Speaker 1: and finally Sipton Park were at home to Offham Cricket Club,
- 5:34Speaker 1: who they come down from a West Moreland. The Sibs
- 5:37Speaker 1: won the toss and elected to bat, making one hundred
- 5:40Speaker 1: and ninety eight for nine. Josh Woodward was top scorer
- 5:43Speaker 1: with ninety four often then made two hundred for seven,
- 5:47Speaker 1: so winning the game by three wickets. This week the
- 5:50Speaker 1: Sibs make the short journey to play Merzam which is
- 5:53Speaker 1: just this side of Ashford, so the rain stayed away
- 5:56Speaker 1: for most of the time. Last Saturday I owned all
- 5:58Speaker 1: our local cricket games to go ahead, so let's hope
- 6:01Speaker 1: the same thing happens this week.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Now.
- 6:03Speaker 1: As I said last week, I decided to look into
- 6:06Speaker 1: the Kent Cricket League and tell you a bit more
- 6:08Speaker 1: about it. Well, what I discovered is that it is massive.
- 6:12Speaker 1: There are thirty divisions for your normal fifty over cricket
- 6:16Speaker 1: and eight groups for the twenty twenty Cup. So starting
- 6:20Speaker 1: from the top, it reads Premier Division Championship Divisions one
- 6:25Speaker 1: to four. Now Division five to seven they've got two
- 6:29Speaker 1: subdivisions named after famous aeroplanes, the Spitfire and the Hurricane.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Then divisions eight to fourteen have two or three subdivisions
- 6:39Speaker 1: which are named after three famous Kent cricketers, John Sheppard,
- 6:43Speaker 1: Alanott and Derek Underwood, hence the Shepherd, Not and Underwood divisions. Locally,
- 6:50Speaker 1: Folkston first team play in the Championship, Sipton Park play
- 6:53Speaker 1: in Division five Hurricane, Folkston Second eleven play in Division
- 6:58Speaker 1: six Hurricane and Hive both play in Division eight Shepherd,
- 7:02Speaker 1: so that's a couple of local derbies there, and Saltwood
- 7:06Speaker 1: and Hive Green both play in Division nine Shepherd, so
- 7:09Speaker 1: that's even better, another couple of local derbies there.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So there you have it. Hope it all makes sense.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It's is when you look at it the bigger picture
- 7:18Speaker 1: of it, it really is massive, you know, but when
- 7:19Speaker 1: you kind of narrow it down, some of it is regional.
- 7:22Speaker 1: So it's not too bad. I mean, if you're in
- 7:24Speaker 1: the Premiership or the Championship, you could play anywhere in Kent. Okay,
- 7:28Speaker 1: time for a bit of music now, and this time
- 7:30Speaker 1: we've got from nineteen ninety six where you have got
- 7:33Speaker 1: Jamiroquai and Cosmic Girl Jamroqui nineteen ninety six. Whatever happened
- 8:00Speaker 1: to them. They burst on the scene in the nineties,
- 8:03Speaker 1: didn't They probably made three, possibly four off decent records
- 8:08Speaker 1: and then I haven't heard of them since. This Sunday
- 8:12Speaker 1: see is the Hive Bay Haith Bay Triathlon a return.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Now.
- 8:16Speaker 1: The headquarters for the event is the High Swimming Pool
- 8:19Speaker 1: with the transition area on the promenade side not the
- 8:22Speaker 1: south road side, and around on the seaside now it's
- 8:25Speaker 1: organized by Max Ramsley and his team from the Ashford
- 8:28Speaker 1: Tri Club and it's very popular with local athletes who
- 8:31Speaker 1: want to have a go in this swim, bike run event.
- 8:34Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Sometimes you get runners that you know just add enough
- 8:38Speaker 1: of running and want to do something different, also swimmers.
- 8:41Speaker 1: So this is a great opportunity to put all three
- 8:44Speaker 1: events together and it was really popular with the first timers,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you know. And it's an added bonus for first timers
- 8:51Speaker 1: because you can join the Ashford Tri Club free for
- 8:54Speaker 1: a year where you can get specialists coaching that will
- 8:57Speaker 1: help you. This event can of the following in the pool.
- 9:02Speaker 1: In the High swimming pool there's a two hundred and
- 9:05Speaker 1: fifty meter zigzag swim. So basically you start in the
- 9:09Speaker 1: bottom left hand corner, then you use zigzag across to
- 9:12Speaker 1: the bottom right hand corner. Then there's a sixteen k
- 9:15Speaker 1: that's that's nearly ten miles that's on the bike. Now
- 9:19Speaker 1: this one goes if you can picture this, it goes
- 9:22Speaker 1: up Twist Road. Now you've got to turn left at
- 9:24Speaker 1: the top of Twist Road. Then you go round the
- 9:26Speaker 1: roundabout and head off to in the Folks and direction
- 9:29Speaker 1: up Sandgate Hill, up to Castle Hill Avenue where you
- 9:32Speaker 1: take a left and then you go along to the
- 9:35Speaker 1: roundabout at the Folks And Central station and then you
- 9:38Speaker 1: return back along well, it's pretty much the same route
- 9:40Speaker 1: through Sandgate, but you turn off at the petrol station
- 9:44Speaker 1: onto Prince's Parade, right back down into transition at the
- 9:47Speaker 1: swimming pool and then next it's the five k run.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Now that's back along Prince's Parade. There's a turnaround point
- 9:54Speaker 1: just past the garage and back home to the swimming pool.
- 9:57Speaker 1: So spectators you can check it out, start and finish
- 10:01Speaker 1: anywhere on the route and it'd be good to see
- 10:03Speaker 1: you out there supporting these triathletes, some of them. It
- 10:07Speaker 1: might be the very first time. So if you want
- 10:09Speaker 1: further information on this, please go to the Ashford tri
- 10:12Speaker 1: Club dot co dot uk and they've also got a
- 10:16Speaker 1: Facebook page. Now, I was trawling through the Ashford site
- 10:20Speaker 1: there and was looking at the results, and this is
- 10:23Speaker 1: the eighth year of running of the triathlon. Basically it
- 10:27Speaker 1: started twenty sixteen, but it did miss two years. It
- 10:30Speaker 1: missed the COVID year of twenty twenty and I do
- 10:34Speaker 1: believe my memory serves me right twenty twenty three. Right
- 10:37Speaker 1: at the last minute. I think they had a bit
- 10:39Speaker 1: of trouble with a swimming pool so it didn't go
- 10:42Speaker 1: ahead on those two years.
- 10:43Speaker 2: We're looking at the results.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Last year a gentleman called Joshua Pine he did the
- 10:49Speaker 1: three events in forty eight minutes fifty two seconds, and
- 10:53Speaker 1: the year before, former guest to the show Tom Bean,
- 10:56Speaker 1: he won that in fifty minutes thirty seconds. There's a
- 10:59Speaker 1: gentleman called He's got Wiseman. He won it twice. He
- 11:02Speaker 1: won it in the very first year twenty sixteen, and
- 11:05Speaker 1: he won it in twenty eighteen, and from Maya the
- 11:08Speaker 1: way I've been studying it, he does hold the course
- 11:11Speaker 1: record that's at forty five minutes thirty seven seconds on
- 11:15Speaker 1: the lady section. Last year Jill Cliff from deal Trier
- 11:18Speaker 1: she was the first lady home in fifty five minutes
- 11:21Speaker 1: fourteen seconds.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Now Jill Cliff.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I've worked with Jill Cliff for many years over at
- 11:25Speaker 1: deal Try. She's the race director for the Deal Half Marathon,
- 11:30Speaker 1: and yeah, she really loves her sport and she's an
- 11:33Speaker 1: excellent triathlete. She also won the race in twenty twenty one,
- 11:38Speaker 1: where in fact she holds the course record fifty three
- 11:41Speaker 1: minutes twenty three seconds.
- 11:43Speaker 2: A lady called Ellie Riley.
- 11:45Speaker 1: She won it two years running twenty eighteen twenty nineteen
- 11:49Speaker 1: and I love this one. In the first year it
- 11:50Speaker 1: was held in twenty sixteen, Kylie Hasseu won the ladies section.
- 11:55Speaker 1: And Kylie came into the studio after a few days
- 11:59Speaker 1: after and she was telling me that, yeah, she finished
- 12:05Speaker 1: her run, and you know she wasn't. She didn't think
- 12:07Speaker 1: she'd won the race at all. So she got all
- 12:10Speaker 1: her stuff together and got on a bike and cycled
- 12:12Speaker 1: back to Folks and cycled home. She then got a
- 12:15Speaker 1: text message to say, Kylie, where are you? You came first.
- 12:19Speaker 1: We got a trophy here for you. So she jumped
- 12:21Speaker 1: on the bike and went all the way back to
- 12:23Speaker 1: get her prize. Now, now you may remember last year
- 12:29Speaker 1: I interviewed four ladies from a team called the Scrambled Legs. Well,
- 12:33Speaker 1: I asked one member, Julie Griffin, if she was taking
- 12:36Speaker 1: part in the triathlon and she said no, not this year,
- 12:39Speaker 1: as the Scrambled Legs team have decided to ascend a
- 12:41Speaker 1: Mount Snowden in Wales as a little challenge to themselves.
- 12:45Speaker 1: So let me read you out this report sent in
- 12:47Speaker 1: by Julie So in April, four of the Scrambled Legs
- 12:50Speaker 1: that's Julie Griffin, Katrina Peak, Vicki Backster and Vicki Jones
- 12:54Speaker 1: decided it would be a good idea to try a
- 12:56Speaker 1: new challenge and climb Mount Snowden. One of the group
- 13:00Speaker 1: told that the Watkin Path would be a scenic route
- 13:02Speaker 1: and one of the best. We weren't told we would
- 13:04Speaker 1: be one of the hardest paths to take on and
- 13:07Speaker 1: it was a very tough challenge. The cloud base dropped
- 13:10Speaker 1: quite early on and visibility was poor three hours in
- 13:14Speaker 1: and it was considered it might be sensible to turn
- 13:16Speaker 1: around and go back, but the scrambled legs. They haven't
- 13:18Speaker 1: got any sense at all, and they carried on. Now,
- 13:21Speaker 1: they bumped into various groups who kept telling us it's
- 13:24Speaker 1: only another twenty minutes, but it wasn't. They came to
- 13:28Speaker 1: the toughest part and scrambled up the rocks. Well they
- 13:31Speaker 1: were the scrambled legs after all, and they scrambled up
- 13:34Speaker 1: the rocks with a group of teenagers descending at the
- 13:37Speaker 1: same time, sending screed and rocks right down on them.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Anyway, they finally made it to the top.
- 13:43Speaker 1: The temperature had dropped and they couldn't see much further
- 13:45Speaker 1: than five meters. Now, after a brief rest, we had
- 13:48Speaker 1: our picture done at the summit and began the descent
- 13:52Speaker 1: back down. They were out there for ten hours there
- 13:55Speaker 1: and back, but they finally made it all in one piece,
- 13:57Speaker 1: all shattered, but all elated with themselves the fact that
- 14:01Speaker 1: they had climbed Mount Snowden. Now the next day or
- 14:04Speaker 1: it was another sorry it was the longest zip wire
- 14:08Speaker 1: for they had another adrenaline boost. Now let me tell
- 14:11Speaker 1: you what the zip wire is. Now, I've looked this
- 14:14Speaker 1: up on YouTube, this particular zip wire, and there are
- 14:16Speaker 1: four wires, four abreast and they go down round about
- 14:20Speaker 1: one point five kilometer anything up to one hundred mile
- 14:24Speaker 1: an hour. Now there was four parallel lines and they
- 14:28Speaker 1: set them all off at the same time and this
- 14:30Speaker 1: is how they came in verse back was Vicky Baxter,
- 14:33Speaker 1: then Katrina, then Julie and then Vicky Jones. And they
- 14:38Speaker 1: go over a thing, a place called Penryn Quarry Lake
- 14:41Speaker 1: and it looks absolutely spectacular. I mean, I bet they
- 14:44Speaker 1: were buzzing when they got off, for there really does
- 14:47Speaker 1: look fantastic. Thinking about this, well, first of all, they
- 14:51Speaker 1: said that they might want to do Scaffold Pike next year.
- 14:55Speaker 1: All right, it's a little challenge, so they've got to
- 14:57Speaker 1: work on that, arrange all that. And I've been thinking,
- 15:00Speaker 1: you know, about the National Three Peaks. I've never had
- 15:03Speaker 1: anybody in here that's ever done the Three Peaks. So
- 15:06Speaker 1: if you're out there listening to this little report and
- 15:08Speaker 1: you've done and your team have done the three Peaks,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and then please let us know and we'd love, I'd
- 15:14Speaker 1: really love you to come in and tell me all
- 15:16Speaker 1: about it. For those of you that don't know, the
- 15:18Speaker 1: National Three Peaks is an event where participants attempt to
- 15:22Speaker 1: climb three peaks in twenty four hours, where the walkers
- 15:26Speaker 1: climb each peak in turn and are driven two and
- 15:29Speaker 1: now are driven from the front of one mountain some
- 15:32Speaker 1: of the foots of one mountain sorry to the next.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Now they go in this order.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Actually, Scaffold Pike is the smallest at three thousand, two
- 15:40Speaker 1: hundred and nine feet, snow Don is next three five
- 15:44Speaker 1: hundred and sixty feet, and ben Nevis is the highest
- 15:48Speaker 1: in Scotland four four hundred and thirteen feet.
- 15:51Speaker 2: So there go.
- 15:52Speaker 1: I mean, that's a challenge in itself, isn't it. And
- 15:55Speaker 1: it looks like the Scrambled Legs might take three years
- 15:58Speaker 1: if they do scap Pike this year in ben Nevis
- 16:01Speaker 1: the following year. But anyway, so look out for the
- 16:05Speaker 1: cyclists and the runners on Sunday doing the High Bow Triathlon,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and good luck to everybody. To Max Ramsley and his team,
- 16:13Speaker 1: we hope you have a great day.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Now.
- 16:14Speaker 1: This song is I just had to find a song
- 16:17Speaker 1: with the mountain in it. This is for the Scrambled Legs.
- 16:19Speaker 1: This is Ain't no mountain high enough from Diana Ross
- 16:39Speaker 1: as well, and a song called Shine. But you guess
- 16:44Speaker 1: that didn't you. I've known that for rages, so it's
- 16:46Speaker 1: really nice to hear that one.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Now, last Sunday I was a race EMC at the
- 16:52Speaker 1: Folkston Coastal ten k organized by a race director, Ray
- 16:56Speaker 1: Johnson and the Folkston Rotary Club. Now the runners that's
- 16:59Speaker 1: about against severe wins. I'll tell you what. It was
- 17:02Speaker 1: so windy down there. But you did feel for the
- 17:05Speaker 1: runners because the wind was in their faces on the
- 17:08Speaker 1: way out because it ran from folks and to hide
- 17:11Speaker 1: them back. But coming back I don't think their feet
- 17:15Speaker 1: touched the ground. They were flying. So there was not
- 17:18Speaker 1: many pebs scored that day, but the rain stayed off.
- 17:23Speaker 1: There was just a few spits and sports through at
- 17:25Speaker 1: the very end. Now, total of nine hundred and forty
- 17:28Speaker 1: nine runners across the finishing line, a record number for
- 17:31Speaker 1: the race being in its fourteenth year. We're guitar zem
- 17:35Speaker 1: from Ashford a C was the first male home in
- 17:37Speaker 1: a time of thirty three minutes nineteen seconds, whilst the
- 17:41Speaker 1: ladies winner was Becky Morrish from Paddickwood AC in a
- 17:44Speaker 1: time of thirty nine minutes and four seconds. Folks and
- 17:49Speaker 1: Running and Athletic Club entered a magnificent sixty two runners
- 17:53Speaker 1: and here are just a few of the many, many
- 17:56Speaker 1: notable performances for the club. Manda Guru was second lady
- 18:00Speaker 1: overall and the second lady home for Folkston was a
- 18:03Speaker 1: birthday girl, Kirsty Wilson. She came in she did a
- 18:06Speaker 1: pebe time as well, wait to spend your birthday.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Happy birthday to you, Kirsty.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Katherine O'Connor was first female VETT fifty five and Deirdre
- 18:15Speaker 1: Coomes was first female VET seventy. So onto the men's
- 18:19Speaker 1: section and Nazreddine Harun was first male home for the club,
- 18:23Speaker 1: followed by Prakash Gurun and he was second and the
- 18:27Speaker 1: winning female team also went to Folkston, so a very
- 18:31Speaker 1: successful day for the club. Now first male home for
- 18:34Speaker 1: sath Kent Harriers was Ian Major and the first lady
- 18:38Speaker 1: home was the smiley face of Marie Watson. I'd love
- 18:41Speaker 1: to see Marie come across the lines. She always looked
- 18:43Speaker 1: so happy. And the Harriers had the twenty five runners
- 18:45Speaker 1: out there and an interesting note was that on two
- 18:49Speaker 1: Saga Cruise ships over a record two hundred runners took
- 18:52Speaker 1: part in the virtue option with Crewe and guests raising money.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Now I didn't see any pictures this year, but I've
- 18:58Speaker 1: just seen pictures in the past of like the crew
- 19:01Speaker 1: just running around the deck. Got to do ten k
- 19:05Speaker 1: round a cruise ship, so that's a few laps, that's
- 19:07Speaker 1: for sure. Now, there's many, many stories to come out
- 19:10Speaker 1: of the Sunday's race, and you know, there were so
- 19:12Speaker 1: many people that I knew there, so many first time
- 19:16Speaker 1: as it was just so good, so many people raising
- 19:19Speaker 1: money for their charity. I'm sorry there's just too many
- 19:22Speaker 1: stories to tell here on radio folks, and due to
- 19:25Speaker 1: the limited time, but a massive congratulations must go to
- 19:29Speaker 1: Ray Johnson, the Folks and Rosary Club, the Police Cadet's.
- 19:32Speaker 1: They were everywhere and it's part of their curriculum, if
- 19:36Speaker 1: you like. They have to do work in the community
- 19:38Speaker 1: to kind of tick the boxes so that they can
- 19:41Speaker 1: finish their course. And they're well done to all the volunteers,
- 19:44Speaker 1: all the marshals, the lead bikes, the tail bikers, the
- 19:47Speaker 1: first aiders, the finish line marshals and many more. So
- 19:51Speaker 1: well done to you. Or okay, now this next song. Now,
- 19:56Speaker 1: when I was in Cyprus, I was talking to a
- 19:57Speaker 1: friend of mine, Addy Bashford, and he works at the
- 20:03Speaker 1: Della War Pavilion in bex Hill, and he's got some
- 20:06Speaker 1: great stories about the artists that appear there. And it's always,
- 20:10Speaker 1: you know, when a song comes on and he tells
- 20:12Speaker 1: us a little story about the group, how he met them,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and you know what they're what they're like. And he
- 20:17Speaker 1: told us about the next artist who I mean, it
- 20:21Speaker 1: surprised me as well when he turned up that Andy
- 20:24Speaker 1: didn't realize that this gentleman had polio and walked with
- 20:26Speaker 1: a stick. And sadly he passed away within the last
- 20:31Speaker 1: six months or so. But this is for you, Andy,
- 20:34Speaker 1: and this is Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel.
- 20:42Speaker 2: You've done it.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Up, Sophia Star and music gets the best of me. Okay,
- 21:07Speaker 1: time for some netball news now. Now I've got a
- 21:11Speaker 1: set of results from the folks in Netball League for
- 21:13Speaker 1: the twenty first of May. So you know, the drill
- 21:16Speaker 1: is the name of the team, the score, then the
- 21:18Speaker 1: star player for that team. So here we go, Black
- 21:22Speaker 1: Widow's twenty five, Rachel Ice twenty nine, Page Vipers twenty one,
- 21:28Speaker 1: Karen Jets thirty four, Abby Panthers forty five, Sam Merston
- 21:36Speaker 1: thirty five, Molly StingRay's eighteen Elsie and Diamonds forty six Sarah,
- 21:46Speaker 1: So a big thank you to Daniel Black for compiling
- 21:48Speaker 1: those results and sending them in.
- 21:50Speaker 2: So if you want to know more.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Then go to the Facebook page of Folks and Netball
- 21:54Speaker 1: League and send Daniel a message. You know, perhaps you've
- 21:57Speaker 1: been listening to those results and you might be looking
- 22:00Speaker 1: for a team or pressure news to the town. Then
- 22:03Speaker 1: you can just get in touch. And they're always in
- 22:05Speaker 1: the lookout for floaters. They call them people that are
- 22:08Speaker 1: floating around that can dip in and dip out and
- 22:12Speaker 1: join the floating community and you might get a game.
- 22:17Speaker 1: So next up, little chat about Folks and Regatta. Now,
- 22:23Speaker 1: I've been messaging Sally Watkins, who's from the Folks and
- 22:26Speaker 1: Rowing Club down there, and sadly, due to the high
- 22:29Speaker 1: winds last on Sunday, the Folks and Regatta had to
- 22:32Speaker 1: be canceled. However, subject to umpires being available, a possible
- 22:36Speaker 1: date of Sunday the sixth to July has been penciled
- 22:39Speaker 1: in the diary.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Now.
- 22:41Speaker 1: The club's next regular regatta is at the weekend of
- 22:44Speaker 1: fourteenth and the fifteenth of June, where there is an
- 22:47Speaker 1: event on Saturday the fourteenth at Hastings. Then on the
- 22:50Speaker 1: Sunday a short trip is made to bex Hill, which
- 22:53Speaker 1: isn't too far away and for another regatta. And as
- 22:56Speaker 1: these two venues are very close together, many rowers make
- 22:59Speaker 1: a week end of it, either camp in or staying
- 23:01Speaker 1: at a hotel every night. So let's hope for them
- 23:04Speaker 1: for a weekend of fine weather. As many run at
- 23:07Speaker 1: rowing clubs do travel from miles around the coash, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: to come to these regattas. So if you want to
- 23:13Speaker 1: take part or or if you want to sorry, if
- 23:16Speaker 1: you want to take part in anything going on down
- 23:18Speaker 1: the rowing club, they've got a Facebook page, did easy
- 23:21Speaker 1: folks in rowing club just send them a little message.
- 23:24Speaker 1: And so I'm going to be down there on Tuesdays
- 23:27Speaker 1: I think it is, and you could perhaps pop down
- 23:29Speaker 1: there and just learn a few basics to start with,
- 23:32Speaker 1: see if it's for you. Okay, So we've got to
- 23:35Speaker 1: song now Christine Aguilera from two thousand and two.
- 23:38Speaker 2: And it's called Beautiful.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Well that's a combination there of Kalf and Tammy Rennette's
- 24:24Speaker 1: Justified and Ancient nineteen ninety one.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Once again i've heard that phrase, Is that good? Is that? Yes?
- 24:30Speaker 1: Wow? It's amazing what pops up on the playlist on
- 24:34Speaker 1: this radio stations. Love it Okay, So this Sunday I
- 24:38Speaker 1: will be on the mic at the Hasting Runners five
- 24:41Speaker 1: mile road Race where many local runners from our region
- 24:44Speaker 1: make a day of it. Now, the race, under the
- 24:46Speaker 1: guidance of a race director Natasha Slow, still has places
- 24:50Speaker 1: available or you can enter on the day. Now.
- 24:52Speaker 2: The amazing thing about this race is that.
- 24:54Speaker 1: All the proceeds, after they've paid out all the expenses,
- 24:57Speaker 1: the proceeds, all the proceeds go to the local Saint
- 25:00Speaker 1: Michael's Hospice and the Hastings Runners Club. In the past
- 25:04Speaker 1: seventeen years, this race will be race number eighteen. They
- 25:10Speaker 1: have raised a whopping seventy thousand pounds for the hospice.
- 25:13Speaker 1: So further information, please put Hasting Runners five mile Road
- 25:17Speaker 1: Race into your Facebook search box and hopefully I'll see
- 25:22Speaker 1: you there. Now, this next song, I did say I'll
- 25:25Speaker 1: play it for Missus Ferrett because she loves this one,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and we made a lot of lovely friends out in Cyprus,
- 25:31Speaker 1: and so we played this song at her birthday party
- 25:35Speaker 1: and really, really they just got everybody up on the
- 25:39Speaker 1: dance floor just realizing you know that what friends are for.
- 25:42Speaker 1: So this is Dean Warwick and lots of celebrity voices
- 25:45Speaker 1: in there. See if you can pick them out. I'll
- 25:47Speaker 1: bet you know him as soon as they start singing.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Have a little listen to.
- 25:50Speaker 2: This and never thought that be this way.
- 26:13Speaker 1: And as far as all concern, where I got the
- 26:18Speaker 1: chance to say.
- 26:21Speaker 2: That I do believe, I do keep shining? You can
- 26:34Speaker 2: alwas come.
- 26:37Speaker 1: For sure?
- 26:40Speaker 2: That's what friends up for.
- 26:43Speaker 1: So as we fade that one down a bit, did
- 26:46Speaker 1: you know it's in there at least Stevie Wonder and
- 26:48Speaker 1: Elton Johnny.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Okay, that's it from miss That's it from me this week.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Don't forget if you're going to run the cliff Top Challenge.

- 26:59Speaker 1: on the show will be Den Kelly. Then was a
- 27:03Speaker 1: guest when he ran the first marathon ever in London

- 27:11Speaker 1: his day. What So tune your next week to listen
- 27:22Speaker 1: to Den. I'll be back on Saturday with Adrian And
