- 0:10Speaker 1: Went True Insurance dire a chest with the auduls.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Hey, everybody, welcome to Conspiracy the Show.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I'm Adam Todd Brown. Who are you o?
- 0:37Speaker 4: Connor? Ma'spading here. I always feel so cut, cut, so
- 0:39Speaker 4: off guard when you throw it to me. You always
- 0:43Speaker 4: do it like I just showed up on your front porch.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Well this time you didn't.
- 0:46Speaker 2: At least you weren't like drinking water taking a drag
- 0:49Speaker 2: of a cigarette or something when I said it.
- 0:51Speaker 4: So that's usually the case. Is I'm trying to kind
- 0:53Speaker 4: of power caffeine and nicotinize while Adam is doing the
- 0:57Speaker 4: intro and then I have let's go. Connor is here
- 1:00Speaker 4: as well.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I have been.
- 1:01Speaker 2: I've been power caffeinating this morning. I've mostly quit nicotine,
- 1:06Speaker 2: which is a thing I didn't think would be possible
- 1:08Speaker 2: during quarantine.
- 1:10Speaker 4: That's pretty impressive because I'd quit and then quarantine happened
- 1:13Speaker 4: and I was like, I'm not not smoking for I
- 1:15Speaker 4: need to go outside at some point.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Well, before you call it too impressive, you have no
- 1:20Speaker 2: idea how high I am right now, because I've just
- 1:23Speaker 2: kind of substituted vaping nicotine for vaping weed.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a that's a way to go. I was,
- 1:31Speaker 4: I'm trying to stop smoking weed, but it has kind
- 1:33Speaker 4: of become a five day week thing over here as well.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh, I'm definitely not trying to quit weed. I just
- 1:38Speaker 2: signed up for a weed subscription box. It's fucking magic
- 1:42Speaker 2: ninety nine dollars a month and they just mail you
- 1:44Speaker 2: a fucking box a weed, just.
- 1:47Speaker 4: A bombs, just a fucking loot box.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Yeah, oh goddamn box.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Anyway, that does make a decent segue into what we're
- 1:54Speaker 2: talking about this week, because you'll probably want to be
- 1:57Speaker 2: high for this episode. We're talking about subliminal messages in music.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yeah, and these are always stories that I think start high.
- 2:06Speaker 4: You know. It's like the first reporting is done high, Yeah, because.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You I feel like you have to be high even
- 2:13Speaker 2: to want to hear that that reverse message and want
- 2:18Speaker 2: to go like put it on a computer and reverse
- 2:20Speaker 2: it to figure out what they're even saying. Like, you
- 2:23Speaker 2: have to be high just to be that curious.
- 2:25Speaker 4: And it's not a scavenger hunt that you go on sober,
- 2:29Speaker 4: you know, in the same way you don't go to
- 2:30Speaker 4: the Sonic that's forty five minutes away unless somebody's ship
- 2:33Speaker 4: faced in your car. You know, it's there's got to
- 2:35Speaker 4: be like an instigating, intoxicated element.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Right, And I would argue it's even harder today to
- 2:43Speaker 2: hear these subliminal messages because back in the sixties and
- 2:46Speaker 2: seventies it's all on vinyl.
- 2:49Speaker 3: You could just reverse the record and.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a there's a manual reverse function built into
- 2:54Speaker 4: the you know, physicality of the musical product you own.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Whereas here it's like, if you want to be a
- 3:01Speaker 4: satanic journalist, you gotta go, you gotta download audacity, you
- 3:05Speaker 4: gotta watch like a couple like eight year olds on
- 3:08Speaker 4: YouTube give you a tutorial, you know, like with like
- 3:11Speaker 4: screen recording their Windows XP that's clearly their dad's computer.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, but there are still subliminal messages in music today.
- 3:19Speaker 2: There's like, there's so many examples of this. We're talking
- 3:23Speaker 2: about the ten best, but it's it's the ten best
- 3:26Speaker 2: according to me basically, like and people will complain about
- 3:30Speaker 2: that and.
- 3:30Speaker 3: They'll be like, you forgot this one. No I didn't.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I just think my examples are more interesting than your examples.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Well, and if it was the ten most popular, it'd
- 3:39Speaker 4: be the one Judas Priest thing, and then the other
- 3:41Speaker 4: nine ones where it kind of sounds like they say
- 3:43Speaker 4: Paul is dead, you know, yeah, like those are the
- 3:46Speaker 4: only way that's the ones that get all depressed. So
- 3:48Speaker 4: you found a few that I hadn't heard of that
- 3:50Speaker 4: you did kind of slip through the cracks.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Culturally, Yeah, there's there's gonna be a few in here
- 3:54Speaker 2: that I think people won't be as familiar with. And
- 3:57Speaker 2: that's kind of the point. I feel like there's some criteria. Yeah, here,
- 4:00Speaker 2: we need it to be audible obviously, like you want
- 4:04Speaker 2: to be able to hear it without doing too much work,
- 4:07Speaker 2: But I also kind of like when it sounds good
- 4:10Speaker 2: played backwards.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Also, yeah, there's got to be like it's got to
- 4:14Speaker 4: be aesthetically compelling enough to kind of crane your ear
- 4:18Speaker 4: to like find the sort of it sounds like you said,
- 4:21Speaker 4: you know, it's a you've got to make me give
- 4:24Speaker 4: a shit. I think with the Beatles, people are it's
- 4:26Speaker 4: just such a magical story, all of it, and then
- 4:29Speaker 4: all the characters feel so magical in the music has
- 4:32Speaker 4: so much, like I don't know, so many, so many
- 4:34Speaker 4: kind of like implications in everyone's lives. Like it's just
- 4:37Speaker 4: it's you know, it's it's a Christmas music. It's part
- 4:40Speaker 4: of the fabric of you know, culture that people are
- 4:42Speaker 4: just they want there to be more. They they want
- 4:45Speaker 4: to there's like we always got to find there's gotta
- 4:47Speaker 4: be another basement of the well Paul McCartney. Those stories
- 4:51Speaker 4: like every time there's new you know, sort of tidbit
- 4:53Speaker 4: from anybody, it's like huge clickbait. It's huge all over
- 4:55Speaker 4: the place, and I don't know, you're just kind of
- 4:57Speaker 4: strip mining the enjoyment out of it, you know, You're
- 5:00Speaker 4: like it's like yeah, yeah, I mean we can stare
- 5:03Speaker 4: at this how many different ways. But I mean, you know,
- 5:05Speaker 4: couldn't we just put on Rubber Soul in the car
- 5:08Speaker 4: with their family and call it a day? You know?
- 5:09Speaker 4: Do we have to?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah? I like that.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I feel like the Beatles did put a lot of
- 5:16Speaker 2: subliminal stuff in their music, but I think they were
- 5:18Speaker 2: doing it actually to fuck with people, because.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I think we can before tongue in cheek, you know, yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 4: I think.
- 5:24Speaker 2: We covered it on this podcast. But the Paul is
- 5:27Speaker 2: Dead conspiracy started with a satire article written by a
- 5:31Speaker 2: student at the University of Iowa des Moine or something
- 5:36Speaker 2: like that. Wow, and like the Beatles knew that. Everyone
- 5:39Speaker 2: knew that, but the Internet didn't exist then, so like
- 5:43Speaker 2: there weren't ten thousand people to jump up and yell
- 5:45Speaker 2: bullshit in Unison when that article went up, so people
- 5:49Speaker 2: just like took it as real.
- 5:51Speaker 4: What's funny is little did that college student. No, she
- 5:54Speaker 4: was kind of planting the seeds for QAnon in a way,
- 5:56Speaker 4: because that's a big tent poll of their whole ideology
- 6:00Speaker 4: that every celebrity has been killed and replaced with a clone.
- 6:02Speaker 4: And as soon as they tweet something that's kind of
- 6:05Speaker 4: like out of a line of our like canonical cult
- 6:09Speaker 4: vision of who they are, it's like, well, they got him.
- 6:11Speaker 4: He's been killed, he's a clone. The Rock is a clone.
- 6:14Speaker 4: I didn't realize he's getting the vaccine. He's been cloned.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I know about that conspiracy. I didn't realize QAnon had
- 6:20Speaker 2: absorbed that one also. But that's interesting. It makes sense
- 6:24Speaker 2: that they would because that conspiracy allows you to explain
- 6:27Speaker 2: away so many things, like if there's any inconsistencies, you
- 6:31Speaker 2: can just be like it's a different person.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Now. Yeah, that's kind of has done with conspiracies. What
- 6:36Speaker 4: like the sort of smart empires of the ancient world
- 6:39Speaker 4: did where they're like, you can everybody can keep all
- 6:41Speaker 4: their gods and their traditions as long as you march
- 6:44Speaker 4: under the flag. That there are children under Central Park
- 6:46Speaker 4: and Donald Trump is trying desperate to free them.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of how flat earth conspiracies work too.
- 6:52Speaker 4: It's just yeah, it's like, just if you're a reiki girl,
- 6:56Speaker 4: if you're an Epstein guy, whatever you are, just come on,
- 6:59Speaker 4: come on in. Water is warm.
- 7:01Speaker 2: So before we get into subliminal messages in the songs themselves,
- 7:06Speaker 2: one thing that's interesting is there is actually some evidence
- 7:10Speaker 2: that this kind of.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Works with music.
- 7:13Speaker 2: There were these researchers in Switzerland. This happened in twenty nineteen.
- 7:17Speaker 4: These stories always come out of Switzerland. It's like they
- 7:19Speaker 4: got they have no kind of big looming problems to them.
- 7:23Speaker 4: They're like, I know, that's all snow here, this global
- 7:25Speaker 4: warming thing. I mean, we can we can live in
- 7:27Speaker 4: an eighty degree Switzerland. It's like, eh, we've been neutral
- 7:30Speaker 4: for hundreds of years. We don't really need a big
- 7:32Speaker 4: standing army or any big military developments. It's all they're
- 7:35Speaker 4: just making better chocolate and finding out if dogs can
- 7:39Speaker 4: like taste colors.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You know.
- 7:40Speaker 4: It's always like they produced the most like late night
- 7:43Speaker 4: talk show science news of any country. You know.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's got to just be that they don't have
- 7:48Speaker 2: any wars to fight, so what else is there to
- 7:51Speaker 2: spend money on? Then figuring out if you can send
- 7:54Speaker 2: subliminal messages in a Van Halen song. So it's these
- 7:57Speaker 2: two PhD students, Simon Tanner and Manuel Echelberger from the
- 8:02Speaker 2: Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. They spent six
- 8:05Speaker 2: months creating a method to send data hidden in music,
- 8:09Speaker 2: and it's undetectable to the human ear. It basically works
- 8:13Speaker 2: like an audio version of a QR code or the
- 8:16Speaker 2: metadata that's in a digital photo.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, so you can you can kind of scan
- 8:21Speaker 4: it using a computer algorithm, but it's indecipherable to just
- 8:25Speaker 4: a run of the mill layman brain. It's not like
- 8:28Speaker 4: something where you can put it on and then oh, fuck,
- 8:32Speaker 4: I want to kill my dad. Now it really got
- 8:33Speaker 4: under my skin. It's like you have to scan it,
- 8:36Speaker 4: you know. So it's like it's more of like a
- 8:38Speaker 4: that to me is more of an Easter egg and
- 8:40Speaker 4: less of a satanic programming device, you know.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Yeah, especially the part where you still have to use
- 8:46Speaker 2: your phone to do it. Like, the way this would
- 8:50Speaker 2: work is like it's all gonna like we're so terrified
- 8:53Speaker 2: of all of this, and even in every sci fi
- 8:57Speaker 2: vision of the future, all this shit ever comes down
- 8:59Speaker 2: to advertising, and like, yah, what would happen here is
- 9:04Speaker 2: you're listening to an Ariana Grande song and you get
- 9:08Speaker 2: a pop up on your phone that says, hey, Ariana
- 9:10Speaker 2: Grande is on OnlyFans now, and some click this link
- 9:16Speaker 2: to visit, Like you still need some interaction with a
- 9:19Speaker 2: physical thing for this to work.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I mean, you want to talk about feeding all the
- 9:23Speaker 4: hungry people in the world if she could just bite
- 9:25Speaker 4: the book, I mean.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Right, So if this data wasn't masked by music, it
- 9:31Speaker 2: would just sound like random static mixed with a bunch
- 9:35Speaker 2: of unpleasant beeps.
- 9:37Speaker 4: So like it just sounds like you got the song
- 9:38Speaker 4: off LimeWire, not that there was a hidden message in there.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it would sound like early two thousands Radiohead basically
- 9:44Speaker 2: just yeah, yeah, bleeps and bloops and unpleasantness.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 9:48Speaker 3: But yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 2: But also it can only transmit like twenty five characters
- 9:53Speaker 2: at a time, so this isn't as of right now.
- 9:56Speaker 4: We got like a pager level of technology here. You
- 9:58Speaker 4: gotta since when one eight seven. If you're mad at them,
- 10:02Speaker 4: you know you got you got to learn a whole
- 10:03Speaker 4: kind of like tween code.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Yeah, this is one of those things that's going to
- 10:07Speaker 2: require like Elon Musk's neuralink thing to really work.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Oh my god, I've been looking into a
- 10:16Speaker 4: lot of that stuff.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's creepy. At shit, it's it's very creepy.
- 10:19Speaker 4: But then I also go like, well, you know, I mean,
- 10:22Speaker 4: I'm just a I don't know if you call me
- 10:24Speaker 4: a thrill sneaker, but I have a lot of wander lust.
- 10:26Speaker 4: And I'm like that sounds like a kind of a
- 10:28Speaker 4: fresh and exciting new way to become insane is having
- 10:30Speaker 4: my brain hooked up to the you know, be one
- 10:32Speaker 4: of the first people to do that, Like, you know,
- 10:33Speaker 4: why not?
- 10:34Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:34Speaker 2: And who am I to not become enslaved with the
- 10:38Speaker 2: rest of society, Like I'm that I'm that special that
- 10:41Speaker 2: I'm not going to submit to the machine for a while.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Too, at least like the honeymoon years when it's I'm.
- 10:47Speaker 4: Sure, I'm sure that they're you know, I'd be better
- 10:51Speaker 4: off drinking distilled water, But I mean that tap water.
- 10:53Speaker 4: If it's making any of this modern life of mine
- 10:56Speaker 4: that I'm kind of stuck in more palatable. Who am
- 10:59Speaker 4: I to not, you know, exactly take my medicine? You know,
- 11:03Speaker 4: maybe they're right, Maybe it will be. I've always advocated
- 11:06Speaker 4: for that, that dystopian version of the future where a
- 11:09Speaker 4: central computer just makes all our decisions. Oh yeah, where
- 11:13Speaker 4: we have like an AI god.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Yeah, like that's so stress free.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that, and that would, uh would cut
- 11:19Speaker 4: a lot of corners, you know, sure, like, well, let's
- 11:22Speaker 4: go ask Roboto you know, or whatever. You know, we'd
- 11:24Speaker 4: have to give it a cool name. Yeah. I feel
- 11:26Speaker 4: like the problem with these scientists is they're so you know,
- 11:28Speaker 4: you know, calling it a fucking cyber truck and everything
- 11:32Speaker 4: like that. It's like it would have some like lame name,
- 11:34Speaker 4: you know, and we'd have to be like, Okay, let's
- 11:37Speaker 4: let's go talk to the great machine. I know that
- 11:39Speaker 4: sounds like it came right out of a fucking season
- 11:41Speaker 4: four futur ONMA episode that no one remembers, but you know,
- 11:43Speaker 4: we're going with it.
- 11:44Speaker 2: In one of my favorite books, This Perfect Day by
- 11:47Speaker 2: Ira Leven, the central computer is called UNI, which that's
- 11:51Speaker 2: not like that.
- 11:52Speaker 4: It's not bad.
- 11:53Speaker 3: UNI's not bad.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Because it sounds cute, but also it's like it's also
- 11:58Speaker 2: kind of ominous, like any any name.
- 12:00Speaker 4: That could also be the name of like a for
- 12:02Speaker 4: chane E girl character that people are married to. Is
- 12:05Speaker 4: it like a desktop and a mousepad?
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yeah, So let's talk about some of these songs. I
- 12:10Speaker 2: like I said, I feel like I want these to
- 12:13Speaker 2: also sound good backwards like that's one of my criteria,
- 12:17Speaker 2: and you also have to really be able to hear it.
- 12:20Speaker 2: And for that reason, bottom of the list. The only
- 12:23Speaker 2: Beatles song I'm gonna put on the fucking list because
- 12:25Speaker 2: John Lennon was obnoxious with this kind of thing.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Oh yeah, but the.
- 12:31Speaker 2: One part where I think it was kind of interesting
- 12:33Speaker 2: and where if it was intentional, I think they were
- 12:36Speaker 2: kind of fucking with the fans by this point.
- 12:38Speaker 3: But at the end of.
- 12:40Speaker 2: The song I'm so tired, John Lennon says something that
- 12:44Speaker 2: is it's almost inaudible, and it's also in reverse. So
- 12:50Speaker 2: what he's actually saying is this, let's listen, listen.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Is its in to be Yeah, And it's sort of
- 13:07Speaker 4: the mumbling that your buddy does in between throwing up
- 13:09Speaker 4: at the toilet. You know, it's like very.
- 13:15Speaker 2: So that's the gibberist part. Here's the backwards parts.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Missis see.
- 13:23Speaker 2: I feel like people probably still might not have even
- 13:26Speaker 2: heard it. Yeah, and that's why this one is at
- 13:28Speaker 2: the bottom of the list. What he's it sounds like
- 13:31Speaker 2: he is saying when you play that section at the
- 13:33Speaker 2: end of I'm So Tired in reverse, is Paul is dead?
- 13:37Speaker 1: Man?
- 13:37Speaker 3: Miss him? Miss him? Miss him?
- 13:39Speaker 2: Which if that, if that was intentional, they're just fucking
- 13:43Speaker 2: with people. Man, Paul McCartney did not die in a
- 13:46Speaker 2: car accident. There's not a second Paul McCartney.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I'm not even convinced that John Lennon would have missed
- 13:53Speaker 4: him very much.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the thing. John Lennon probably would have been psyched.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Like, oh fucking think I could write all the songs now, Okay, And.
- 14:01Speaker 2: We're talking about the wide album era. So the Beatles
- 14:06Speaker 2: really hated each other by this point.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Was I'm So Tired on the White album?
- 14:10Speaker 4: Yes?
- 14:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, so yeah, John Lennon was way over
- 14:14Speaker 2: missing Paul McCartney by this point, unless he just hated
- 14:17Speaker 2: new Paul McCartney.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Who knows.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe the new Paul was like he never realized
- 14:22Speaker 4: how good he had it. It's like this guy with
- 14:24Speaker 4: the fucking toenail clippings and this song My Darling is
- 14:29Speaker 4: so fucking hacky.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I did near the end there, man, Paul McCartney
- 14:34Speaker 2: songs did get like I hate the Long and Winding Road,
- 14:37Speaker 2: I hate Let It Be, I hate hate Jude, I
- 14:40Speaker 2: hate all of those inspirational Paul McCartney ballads, but I
- 14:43Speaker 2: love Paul McCartney's Beatles songs overall, Like Rocky Raccoon is
- 14:47Speaker 2: fucking great.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Oh that's one of the great ones. Yeah, yeah, fuck, I.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Mean it's that song so much.
- 14:51Speaker 4: I like them all, but it does get a little
- 14:54Speaker 4: like there are a few where it's just like you
- 14:56Speaker 4: can tell he's just so excited to do his little
- 14:58Speaker 4: fucking show busy Paul McGoo thing, and he's like woo
- 15:01Speaker 4: doo doo. You know, he's got that face and he's
- 15:03Speaker 4: just bopping around, and I just like to imagine when
- 15:06Speaker 4: he brings those in and just like John just fucking
- 15:08Speaker 4: pouring a drink. Uh huh. They great. Another one of
- 15:12Speaker 4: the fucking these man awesome, And this is really this
- 15:14Speaker 4: is art we're making.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Paul, have you ever seen the Let It Be documentary.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I've seen good amounts of that. Yeah, wildly
- 15:22Speaker 4: uncomfortable to watch.
- 15:23Speaker 3: It is painful to watch, and I love it so much.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Just like Ringo The Child of Divorce. In the middle,
- 15:28Speaker 4: I played the drums.
- 15:31Speaker 2: So let's talk about the number nine song. Marilyn Manson
- 15:35Speaker 2: Revelation number nine.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Beatles reference too, you know.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a reference to Revolution nine, which is a
- 15:43Speaker 2: fucking obnoxious John Lennon song that is, yeah, and.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Then you know it totally shit about Paul mcarney. It
- 15:50Speaker 4: certain goes both ways because that is one of the
- 15:51Speaker 4: most self indulgent, you know things ever put on wax
- 15:54Speaker 4: just at nine minute sound collige.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's why.
- 15:57Speaker 2: The Beatles worked so well, because Paul McCartney and John
- 16:01Speaker 2: Lennon could like temper each other's more extreme tendencies, but
- 16:06Speaker 2: then sometimes that they would like get set loose and
- 16:10Speaker 2: the results would be stuff like Revolution nine, which is
- 16:13Speaker 2: just John Lennon saying number nine a whole bunch and
- 16:15Speaker 2: then a sound collage like kind of ship I don't
- 16:19Speaker 2: need And that's sort of what this is too, And
- 16:21Speaker 2: it's Marilyn Manson.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Which it's like him putting subliminal messages in its song.
- 16:27Speaker 4: It's like, it's not cool when you do it. You're
- 16:28Speaker 4: kind of being a try hard about it, you know
- 16:30Speaker 4: what I mean.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yeah, the only thing I do like about this is that,
- 16:35Speaker 2: let's listen to a little bit of it reversed. It
- 16:38Speaker 2: sounds good reversed, but so, yeah, it sounds neat. But
- 17:02Speaker 2: it was also like they were cool. They were doing
- 17:04Speaker 2: it on purpose, and when you listen to the messages,
- 17:08Speaker 2: it's like it's just typical Marilyn Manson shit. Like at
- 17:11Speaker 2: one point he says, you're on the other side now,
- 17:13Speaker 2: there ain't no going back, and it's just like him
- 17:16Speaker 2: being Marilyn Manson, So who cares?
- 17:19Speaker 4: Kind of Yeah, it's not really that you know, the
- 17:23Speaker 4: deep or scary or exciting. Like it's very it's very
- 17:26Speaker 4: expected from him, you know, right.
- 17:28Speaker 2: If Carly ray Jepson did this, I'd be like, what it.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Is disappointing that there's not more like.
- 17:36Speaker 2: That.
- 17:36Speaker 4: The modern pop culture has less of this kind of
- 17:38Speaker 4: like satanic speculation because everything's so you know, segmented now
- 17:43Speaker 4: and like bifurcated by online communities. There's not like a
- 17:46Speaker 4: lot of monoculture It's like it's not like there's anyone
- 17:49Speaker 4: going like all right, half the guys in bts or clones,
- 17:52Speaker 4: these guys worship the devil. You're listen to this backwards,
- 17:54Speaker 4: and when you first you got to learn Korean, you know,
- 17:57Speaker 4: it's just it's all very, you know, kind of sanitized.
- 18:00Speaker 4: It stinks that there's not as much of this sort
- 18:02Speaker 4: of like on the local news every now anymore.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like you still see it, but I just
- 18:08Speaker 2: feel like the examples aren't as good, Like there's some
- 18:12Speaker 2: suggestion that there's backwards messages in like justin Bieber songs.
- 18:16Speaker 4: There's not even messages in these songs if you're playing
- 18:19Speaker 4: forwards the other thing.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 18:21Speaker 2: It's just kind of it's and the examples aren't as clear,
- 18:25Speaker 2: but there is one in here that I would argue
- 18:27Speaker 2: is kind of like modern pop music that's really fucking
- 18:29Speaker 2: weird you listen to it backwards.
- 18:31Speaker 4: I swear to guy, he's talking about mummies. Now, does
- 18:33Speaker 4: that mean the mummies are He's just saying mummy, mummy, mummy.
- 18:36Speaker 2: I mean you tell me, Yeah, it's and I'm sure
- 18:40Speaker 2: that's one of the things people will complain about, is
- 18:42Speaker 2: that we didn't put a lot of those examples in here,
- 18:45Speaker 2: but I just don't think they're that compelling. Like yeah,
- 18:48Speaker 2: and I like it, Like I can't picture Britney Spears
- 18:51Speaker 2: making that kind of creative decision.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Yeah, it doesn't seem like that would really. You know,
- 18:58Speaker 4: when they're finalizing the out, it's like, and did we
- 19:01Speaker 4: do we do we make sure that we shout it
- 19:03Speaker 4: out the desecration of care really quick, you know, like.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, on the other hand, she didn't write
- 19:10Speaker 2: her songs, so.
- 19:11Speaker 3: There's there's that. Yeah, it's like she's a tool for Satan.
- 19:14Speaker 3: What do I know.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Let's get that fat guy with a cassio in the
- 19:17Speaker 4: valley we got right in the album to put some
- 19:19Speaker 4: some real dank shit about the new World Order and
- 19:21Speaker 4: give me more actually about Adrenochrome if you read between
- 19:24Speaker 4: the lines.
- 19:24Speaker 2: But yeah, god, I love the Adrenachrome conspiracy so much.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Oh, it's one of the best. That the global elite
- 19:31Speaker 4: are farming children and using their blood or whatever to
- 19:35Speaker 4: make some sort of serum that makes them live forever.
- 19:37Speaker 4: And that's why Nancy Pelosi looks okay for being eighty.
- 19:40Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:40Speaker 4: It's like, like, look, how young these people. I'm like,
- 19:42Speaker 4: they don't know, look that great.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Yeah she still looks eighty.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I mean the whole thing is just beaten the Reaper
- 19:47Speaker 4: at him obviously.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Let's talk about the number eight song, Motorhead Nightmare Slash
- 19:54Speaker 2: the dream Time. Here's the thing. This is obviously meant
- 19:58Speaker 2: to be played backwards, but it's just so much better
- 20:02Speaker 2: than the Marilyn Manson thing because one, it's not Marilyn Manson,
- 20:06Speaker 2: it's motor Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 4: And Motorhead you get a little bit more you know,
- 20:10Speaker 4: they were, they're around in the seventies and eighties, so
- 20:13Speaker 4: you know, you give them a little bit more credence
- 20:15Speaker 4: in the whole satanic panic of it all. Whereas Marilyn
- 20:18Speaker 4: Manson is kind of like, you know, Green Day singing
- 20:21Speaker 4: with a fake English accent in nineteen ninety three. You're
- 20:23Speaker 4: doing the same pop punk tricks that the Undertones did,
- 20:25Speaker 4: just making more money, you know.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Yeah, And I like that.
- 20:29Speaker 2: The message that's being conveyed here is it seems like
- 20:33Speaker 2: it's kind of geared toward the people who would put
- 20:36Speaker 2: on a motor Head record, listen for backwards messages, and
- 20:40Speaker 2: then start that moral panic over those backwards messages. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:45Speaker 2: let's listen to it. And I think it's it's pretty easy.
- 20:49Speaker 2: This song was meant to be played backwards, so it's
- 20:51Speaker 2: pretty easy to hear what.
- 20:53Speaker 4: You know, taking shots at the soccer moms.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Subscribe to. That was the song played in reverse, And
- 21:27Speaker 2: what he was saying was, uh, I do not subscribe
- 21:30Speaker 2: to your superstitious, narrow minded flights of paranoia. I and
- 21:35Speaker 2: people like me will always prevail that fucking rips.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yeah, that's pretty Uh, it's very fuck you. I won't
- 21:41Speaker 4: do what you tell me, you know.
- 21:43Speaker 3: And I love Motorhead.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I like the examples, Like we're gonna get into a
- 21:47Speaker 2: lot of examples where they're obviously doing it on purpose,
- 21:52Speaker 2: so they put a lot of effort and attention into
- 21:55Speaker 2: the words you hear backwards. And I think that's a
- 21:58Speaker 2: good example of that. I appreciate you speaking of Hell.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I don't know if we were, but let's talk about
- 22:05Speaker 2: it now. This one's just fun because it's Slayer, and
- 22:08Speaker 2: like you want Slayer to talk about Hell.
- 22:11Speaker 4: I would say so, yeah, and this I'm not thinking
- 22:14Speaker 4: anyone buys a Slayer record and goes the devil again?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Is that what that pentagram means come on.
- 22:21Speaker 2: This was the first song on Slayer's second album, and
- 22:25Speaker 2: if you play it back.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I barely know her. I think come back.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Yeah, that's just fucking awesome.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yeah, that rips pretty hard.
- 23:04Speaker 2: That was all intentional, because, like they were obviously one
- 23:08Speaker 2: of the bands, especially during the Satanic Panic that people
- 23:11Speaker 2: were super up in arms about.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Although I don't know when did the first Slayer.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Album come out, like they're they're the kind of band
- 23:18Speaker 2: that's always gonna get.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Nineteen eighty one. I think I was just looking at
- 23:21Speaker 4: their repeatia earlier. Yeah, I think it was nineteen eighty Well,
- 23:25Speaker 4: wasn't it. It wasn't The guy that from Quiet Riot
- 23:27Speaker 4: that went and did had that big speech he made
- 23:30Speaker 4: in front of a I don't know if it was
- 23:32Speaker 4: Congress or just like a judge or something where he
- 23:35Speaker 4: just kind of had this whole kind of articulate spiel
- 23:37Speaker 4: about why you know, I had nothing to do with this,
- 23:40Speaker 4: I'm just a fucking musician, man. It always seemed kind
- 23:44Speaker 4: of strange to me that a bent like you know,
- 23:45Speaker 4: Quiet right, which is like you know, a heavy metal
- 23:47Speaker 4: band and a raunchy band or what you know, we're
- 23:49Speaker 4: not going to take it very rebellious, but like that
- 23:51Speaker 4: not very satanic. You know, at least to my knowledge,
- 23:53Speaker 4: you're thinking a D.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Snyder from Twisted Sister.
- 23:57Speaker 4: There you go, Twisted Sister. Yeah, yeahtude, we're not.
- 24:00Speaker 3: There was a whole like it was.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Al Gore's wife, Tipper Gore, started this campaign in the
- 24:06Speaker 2: eighties because she bought her kids a Prince album and actually,
- 24:12Speaker 2: spoiler alert, heard one of the songs that we're going
- 24:15Speaker 2: to talk about here and wanted to know why there
- 24:18Speaker 2: wasn't some kind of warning that Prince was going to
- 24:21Speaker 2: be singing about dix and tits and things of the like.
- 24:25Speaker 4: You gotta be pretty white to be like worried about
- 24:28Speaker 4: like a five foot four guy who wears like corsets,
- 24:32Speaker 4: you know, corrupting your children to the devil. You know,
- 24:34Speaker 4: that's like a pretty high level of soccer mommery.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's exactly what it was. It was.
- 24:40Speaker 2: She started this thing called the Parents Music Resource Center,
- 24:43Speaker 2: and that testimony you're talking about was kind of the
- 24:46Speaker 2: culmination of that where there was this big anti obscenity
- 24:50Speaker 2: campaign and D Snyder testified, Frank Zappa testified, I'm not
- 24:58Speaker 2: sure who else. Prince obviously was like, fuck you, I'm
- 25:02Speaker 2: not coming to testify, yeah anything.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Princes like I'm not leaving Minneapolis for this shit.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but uh yeah, it was a whole thing. That's
- 25:11Speaker 2: why there's parental advisory labels on albums.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Now, whenever I hear Tipper Gore's name, I can't help it.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Hear it in Jello biafras like angry Tipper Gore, you know,
- 25:21Speaker 4: like I always hear him.
- 25:22Speaker 3: That's what he was mad about. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 3: her campaigning on that shit.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Now, this next one is I think one of the
- 25:30Speaker 2: weirder ones of the bunch because, for one thing, it's
- 25:34Speaker 2: a Nelly.
- 25:35Speaker 3: For Tado song.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Very odd.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a Nellie for Tado song called big Hoops
- 25:40Speaker 2: Bigger the Better, which I imagine has to be about
- 25:42Speaker 2: ear rings, right, like that, what else could that be
- 25:45Speaker 2: about unless.
- 25:46Speaker 3: It's like really see time as a flat circle? Shit.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Yeah, And this is like, you know, if you're looking
- 25:52Speaker 4: for somebody to do this in that lane, I'd be
- 25:53Speaker 4: much more likely to look at like Azalea Banks, who's
- 25:57Speaker 4: like known for, like, you know, you like kind of
- 25:58Speaker 4: interesting episodes in the Internet, your big conspiracy theories, and
- 26:01Speaker 4: she's kind of like down a lot of different rabbit holes.
- 26:04Speaker 4: But like Nellie for Toato, I kind of like put
- 26:06Speaker 4: in the same sort of category of like the Chingey's
- 26:08Speaker 4: of the day who just sort of came and went,
- 26:10Speaker 4: you know, like things that were like around when I
- 26:12Speaker 4: was in middle school and then I just haven't fucking
- 26:14Speaker 4: they must be just spending their ring tone money. Yeah,
- 26:16Speaker 4: she hadn't addicted the credon like the rest of us.
- 26:19Speaker 2: She had that run where she was like associated with
- 26:23Speaker 2: Timberland and Justin Timberlake and they were all friends and
- 26:28Speaker 2: they were all making albums. But yeah, that all like
- 26:31Speaker 2: like Justin Timberlake's not like no one even gives a
- 26:34Speaker 2: shit about him anymore. But so, yeah, she's a weird
- 26:37Speaker 2: vessel for subliminal messages unless it was like on that
- 26:40Speaker 2: I'm like a Bird song, but this is not. This
- 26:43Speaker 2: is on a more recent song.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, anyway, let's hear it.
- 26:47Speaker 2: So let's listen to this Nelly for Tato thing. It
- 26:50Speaker 2: loses some points in the rankings here because to hear it,
- 26:54Speaker 2: you'll hear it better if you use the a cappella
- 26:57Speaker 2: version of this song. But I'm gonna this and I'll
- 27:01Speaker 2: just play it without telling people what she's going to
- 27:04Speaker 2: say first and see if you see, if you pick
- 27:06Speaker 2: it up.
- 27:07Speaker 4: It ain't over.
- 27:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 2: So this is the single version of this song, like
- 27:14Speaker 2: as it was heard on the radio.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Now here's the version played regulars the backage shop. Please please.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Yeah, please.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Please Yeah.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Here it is in reverse.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Oh my godnding to the thirteenth floor, Fortunes on the
- 27:53Speaker 5: eleventh floors to the twelfth floor. Oh my god, I
- 28:00Speaker 5: to the thirteenth floor.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Fourteenth.
- 28:04Speaker 4: On the eleventh floor to the twelfth floor.
- 28:08Speaker 3: What the fuck?
- 28:10Speaker 4: Really weird, very weird. I get the part where you're
- 28:13Speaker 4: in the studio and you go like, I don't know,
- 28:15Speaker 4: text really is part feels a little flat. Maybe we
- 28:17Speaker 4: could kind of layer something in subtly and it's like, well,
- 28:20Speaker 4: let's maybe just a little backward stuff and then you
- 28:22Speaker 4: just kind of get in there in riff a little bit.
- 28:25Speaker 4: But for for that to be what you pick, it's
- 28:27Speaker 4: just kind of odd, you know. And obviously you got
- 28:29Speaker 4: the thirteenth floor, which is like, you know, they pick
- 28:32Speaker 4: the creepiest number, you know, so doo do do do?
- 28:35Speaker 4: But uh yeah, just this is and again to be
- 28:37Speaker 4: in a fucking Nelly Fertado song, who's like, I don't
- 28:39Speaker 4: know if we're having any kind of political conspiracy stake
- 28:43Speaker 4: at anything. And you know this is that's when who's
- 28:45Speaker 4: got like any kind of a pet issue or like
- 28:47Speaker 4: any sort of like a public take on any kind
- 28:50Speaker 4: of thing that's controversial. It's just like, probably let me
- 28:53Speaker 4: get in the satanic message game.
- 28:54Speaker 2: This is the one that feels the most like some
- 28:56Speaker 2: CIA shit to me because the messaging is so weird.
- 29:00Speaker 2: If people didn't pick all of it up. What she
- 29:02Speaker 2: was saying was oh my god, descending to the thirteenth floor, fourteenth,
- 29:08Speaker 2: eleventh floor, descending to the twelfth floor, Like I feel
- 29:12Speaker 2: like I just triggered someone to do something by saying that.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Just now, there's someone in Kansas who's like, I gotta
- 29:19Speaker 2: go kill Bobby Kennedy.
- 29:20Speaker 3: And it's like, relax, it already happened.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're a little late. Well, we know
- 29:26Speaker 4: she's not talking about a hotel, because they don't have
- 29:28Speaker 4: thirteenth floors in hotels, right, narrows it down. Maybe some
- 29:32Speaker 4: kind of a federal building. I don't know.
- 29:34Speaker 2: I don't know, but that one is weird. And there's
- 29:37Speaker 2: I looked online there's not really somehow, no one has
- 29:40Speaker 2: ever sat Nelly Furtado down and been like, hey, what
- 29:44Speaker 2: the fuck was that? Which blows my mind? That blows
- 29:47Speaker 2: my mind, and no one's ever asked it.
- 29:49Speaker 4: Well, the more I'm like, do like on a kind
- 29:52Speaker 4: of mainstream show business shit, the more I realized, like,
- 29:54Speaker 4: it's just the idea of nobody's interested in asking hard
- 29:58Speaker 4: questions because it's like, well, we wanted to come back,
- 30:00Speaker 4: so we want to make them look good, So we're
- 30:02Speaker 4: gonna just sucking pitch him a bunch of softballs that
- 30:04Speaker 4: we could have gotten a fifteen year old in turn
- 30:06Speaker 4: to come up with, and then we'll call it a day.
- 30:09Speaker 4: You know. It kind of bums me out. There's no
- 30:11Speaker 4: there's not a lot of Nard Wars out there digging
- 30:13Speaker 4: deep and going now, what did you mean? You know?
- 30:15Speaker 2: See, I feel like that's where this network in general
- 30:19Speaker 2: is at kind of a competitive advantage, because I assume
- 30:23Speaker 2: if we ever booked a guest like Nellie Fortado, she
- 30:26Speaker 2: would never come back anyway, so we might as well
- 30:30Speaker 2: get the hard questions in right out of the gate.
- 30:33Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no, that was a look when I was
- 30:35Speaker 4: in the podcasting game. To me and boys. That was
- 30:37Speaker 4: our philosophy as well. It's like, look, we're gonna have
- 30:39Speaker 4: Steve ran as easy on nine to eleven. We're not
- 30:40Speaker 4: gonna tell him that. He's just gonna find out, you know,
- 30:43Speaker 4: and then if he doesn't come back, well we did
- 30:45Speaker 4: it once, and then you know, it's like, could you
- 30:46Speaker 4: do it any better than having him on nine to eleven?
- 30:48Speaker 4: I don't think so. I think more people should have
- 30:51Speaker 4: the kind of yolo mentality. Like even like Old Letterman
- 30:53Speaker 4: was so acidic, you know, paras Oltan would come on
- 30:56Speaker 4: and he'd just be like, what the fuck do you do?
- 30:58Speaker 4: You know, and there's just none of that anymore. Everything's like, oh,
- 31:01Speaker 4: well we gotta you know, we want him to retweet it.
- 31:04Speaker 2: So yeah, So now we're getting into the top five
- 31:10Speaker 2: the heavy hitters number five, Judas Priest better by You,
- 31:14Speaker 2: Better than Me. On the one hand, this should be
- 31:16Speaker 2: higher on the list because the band got sued for
- 31:20Speaker 2: inciting people to commit suicide over this song.
- 31:24Speaker 4: It's the kind of the only one that had any
- 31:26Speaker 4: real world consequences, unless you want to kind of count
- 31:29Speaker 4: the Charles Manson Beatles stuff.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Yeah, like Helter Skelter's that's a good example.
- 31:36Speaker 4: But this Piggy's on that. Yeah.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Yeah, this one was like this came this was at
- 31:41Speaker 2: the heart of the Satanic panic. This is when parents
- 31:44Speaker 2: were freaking out about dungeons and dragons and shit like that.
- 31:48Speaker 4: M hm, oh my god. We had a neighbor who
- 31:51Speaker 4: was a Christian from north North Dakota and his parents
- 31:54Speaker 4: were from North Dakota and we used to play D
- 31:56Speaker 4: and D and he would always get in trouble and
- 31:58Speaker 4: his mom would yell at him in this stick ass
- 32:00Speaker 4: North day. Cool, stop playing your dungeons and dragons and
- 32:05Speaker 4: come get your shaken bake.
- 32:07Speaker 2: You know.
- 32:07Speaker 4: It was just like it was so perfect. It's like
- 32:10Speaker 4: that's you're playing devil games. Cool. It's fucking awesome. And
- 32:15Speaker 4: then and then that makes you, the kids who are
- 32:17Speaker 4: allowed to play, like makes you feel pretty cool. It's like, hey,
- 32:19Speaker 4: we're fucking worshiping the devil in here with these octahedral dice.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:23Speaker 2: This song like they only got sued because two kids
- 32:27Speaker 2: committed suicide after listening to it.
- 32:29Speaker 3: A bunch, big deal, But we were talking about.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Doing the same thing with the grownups movies. You know,
- 32:34Speaker 4: that's not necessarily.
- 32:36Speaker 2: We were talking about this before we started recording. One
- 32:39Speaker 2: of the kids didn't die. He just like he aimed
- 32:44Speaker 2: the gun the wrong way and shot the front of
- 32:47Speaker 2: his face off, but lived for three more years.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Yeah, he had to talk like a muppet.
- 32:53Speaker 2: It was really sad, and it it reminds me of
- 32:57Speaker 2: like if he did do this because of the Judas
- 32:59Speaker 2: Priest song, which I think he eventually claimed is what happened, Like,
- 33:04Speaker 2: imagine having to live with that, Like my face is
- 33:08Speaker 2: like this because of a fucking Judas Priest song.
- 33:11Speaker 4: And like if you do it when you're you know, fifteen,
- 33:13Speaker 4: by the time you're eighteen, you're like, I don't even
- 33:15Speaker 4: fucking like this band anymore.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it reminds me of this thing that happened in
- 33:20Speaker 2: the UK a couple of years ago where this guy
- 33:22Speaker 2: he was like eighteen I think at the time, and
- 33:26Speaker 2: he was sitting on a patio with a bunch of
- 33:27Speaker 2: his friends.
- 33:28Speaker 3: They were all super drunk and a.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Banana slug came crawling along and as a drunken dare,
- 33:35Speaker 2: he was like, I'm gonna eat that banana slug and
- 33:38Speaker 2: he did, and it gave him a thing called rat
- 33:41Speaker 2: lungworm disease.
- 33:43Speaker 4: God rat lungworm, Yes, that's not the Potions Professor and
- 33:47Speaker 4: the Harry Potter books exactly. Yeah.
- 33:51Speaker 2: And this one of the things this disease did is
- 33:54Speaker 2: it put him in this vegetative state where he couldn't
- 33:58Speaker 2: move and couldn't talk.
- 34:00Speaker 4: But he like he got like Johnny got his gunned.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Yeah, he was fully cognitive otherwise, so he was just
- 34:07Speaker 2: he was just like garious, trapped in this prison of
- 34:10Speaker 2: knowing that he did this to himself because he ate
- 34:13Speaker 2: a banana slug.
- 34:15Speaker 3: And he lived for like six more years and then
- 34:17Speaker 3: he died at.
- 34:18Speaker 4: Least Captain Pike and Star Truck when he was inside
- 34:20Speaker 4: the big boopety boot machine. It's like, well, he fucking
- 34:23Speaker 4: saved the Federation. You know. It's like I'm a prisoner
- 34:27Speaker 4: in my own body. But you know, I you know,
- 34:29Speaker 4: a lot of di lithium was spared. It's some good men,
- 34:31Speaker 4: but yeah, this motherfucker just on a bar. Dare Oh
- 34:34Speaker 4: so I cut my chest oupen listening to Rock and
- 34:37Speaker 4: Roll Suicide by David Bowie when I was like fourteen,
- 34:40Speaker 4: and I still like, you know, every time I got
- 34:41Speaker 4: to listen to Ziggy Start. That's one of my favorite
- 34:43Speaker 4: albums of all time, one of the best albums. It
- 34:46Speaker 4: almost ruins it for me because I just start cringing.
- 34:48Speaker 4: I'm just like, oh god, that's right. I was fourteen,
- 34:51Speaker 4: fucking stupid.
- 34:52Speaker 3: That is pretty extreme.
- 34:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I was pretty uh really trying to be a
- 34:56Speaker 4: cool guy over there, and she know, yeah, so.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Let's listen to this and backwards.
- 35:01Speaker 2: The reason it's not higher on the list, even though
- 35:03Speaker 2: it's so iconic in terms of stuff like this is
- 35:05Speaker 2: I feel like you can't really hear whatever you're supposed
- 35:08Speaker 2: to be hearing that well here it goes, so somewhere
- 35:48Speaker 2: in there you were supposed to have heard Rob Halford.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Say do it, just do it as all it take,
- 35:54Speaker 4: I mean, And even then, like, even if that was
- 35:56Speaker 4: how do those kids know that's not a Nike ad?
- 35:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 35:59Speaker 2: How they know he doesn't mean, uh, come out as
- 36:03Speaker 2: gay to your parents. Stay in school, you know, the
- 36:06Speaker 2: cause Rob Halford cared about Yeah, stay in school because
- 36:10Speaker 2: judas priest William that was a gay guy, right, Yeah.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Yeah. It's a lot of the best metal, like the
- 36:14Speaker 4: first two Queen albums and all that shit. It's like, yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 4: I do love like a let's say it's kind of
- 36:19Speaker 4: a Chuck Polinic fight club thing where it's like, well,
- 36:21Speaker 4: if you know, bros love it, but did you know.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the so I can barely hear him saying
- 36:28Speaker 2: do it and even then, like that was I think
- 36:31Speaker 2: the point the lawyers made too. It's like, even if
- 36:34Speaker 2: you heard us say do it, it doesn't mean suicide,
- 36:37Speaker 2: Like you could have then do your homework. So I
- 36:40Speaker 2: think I'm pretty sure Judas Priest won that lawsuit. Like
- 36:43Speaker 2: obviously they're not in prison for murder now, so yeah,
- 36:47Speaker 2: numbers be.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Weird if they were, that would like that would be
- 36:50Speaker 4: one of the uh.
- 36:51Speaker 2: That would have been a big turning point in American history.
- 36:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that would have been a pretty big free of
- 36:56Speaker 4: his speech cases. If you if you, well you got
- 36:59Speaker 4: and then that creates a great job, which is a
- 37:01Speaker 4: person who has to listen to every record backwards at
- 37:03Speaker 4: the company and kind of crying and it's like, well,
- 37:06Speaker 4: I know it's the big single, but it does sound
- 37:08Speaker 4: a little bit like you're saying each your mom.
- 37:10Speaker 2: So let's talk about number four led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven.
- 37:17Speaker 2: This one is legitimately creepy to me because the section
- 37:21Speaker 2: that you have to reverse to pick up the message
- 37:24Speaker 2: is also like one of the most baffling lyrical passages
- 37:29Speaker 2: of all time. It's the part where Robert Plant says,
- 37:33Speaker 2: if there's a bustle in your hedge row, don't be alarmed.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Now it's just a spring clean for the may queen.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Motherfucker. What now, let's listen to it in reverse, sing
- 37:52Speaker 3: it a regular queen. Listen close. Oh wait, there's another
- 37:59Speaker 3: part to us.
- 38:00Speaker 4: As you catled that but steal dam.
- 38:10Speaker 3: All right, Sorry, that one's a lot of fun.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that one is. That one does sound pretty cool.
- 38:38Speaker 4: I heard satan in there. Yeah, he says this also,
- 38:42Speaker 4: just like bigs, a question of how much trial and
- 38:44Speaker 4: error you have to do to like, I know, hedgerow
- 38:47Speaker 4: is not really a word, guys, but it was the
- 38:49Speaker 4: only thing even close that I could kind of come
- 38:52Speaker 4: up with that what that would interpolate to the devil?
- 38:54Speaker 4: So if we could just get off my dick for
- 38:56Speaker 4: a second, please, you know, like it's.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Yeah, this one, more than almost any of them, feels
- 39:03Speaker 2: the most intentional to me because he is saying like
- 39:06Speaker 2: he's singing gibberish basically.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Yeah. Then, and this is a big, sprawling composition. It's
- 39:13Speaker 4: like that Nelly Fortato song. It's like the one I
- 39:15Speaker 4: never heard it in two I mean it sounds like
- 39:17Speaker 4: you I could have fucking banged it out on fruity
- 39:19Speaker 4: loops in like, you know, two hours. You know, it
- 39:21Speaker 4: doesn't it's not like Sterodopaven where it's this big fucking
- 39:25Speaker 4: epic composition with all these movements and technical overtures and shit,
- 39:29Speaker 4: and it's like that's the kind of big masterpiece that
- 39:32Speaker 4: you want to put some little secret sauce into.
- 39:35Speaker 2: And Jimmy Page was so into the occult and like
- 39:39Speaker 2: he bought a house that belonged that used to belong
- 39:42Speaker 2: to Alistair Crowley, Like he was way into.
- 39:45Speaker 4: This Alistair Crowley again, I hear the name, but he
- 39:48Speaker 4: was like.
- 39:48Speaker 2: A big occult guy, like he's like one of the
- 39:52Speaker 2: pre eminent figures in Satanism or occult stuff.
- 39:56Speaker 4: And Antoine Levey kind of a figure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 40:00Speaker 4: I mean that's the thing like when you get yeah,
- 40:02Speaker 4: like I heard, uh, I actually heard. Alex John's made
- 40:04Speaker 4: a pretty good point about this recently, where he was
- 40:06Speaker 4: talking about like what Yeah, once you get to a
- 40:08Speaker 4: certain level of wealth and influence in the world, it's like,
- 40:10Speaker 4: you know, these material things, it's like that you can
- 40:12Speaker 4: have whatever you want. Like it's like, yeah, you know,
- 40:15Speaker 4: there's little differences, but it's like you kind of get
- 40:17Speaker 4: bored with all the little indulgences, you know, not that
- 40:19Speaker 4: you don't do them and not that you don't participate
- 40:21Speaker 4: in them, but you get to a point where you
- 40:24Speaker 4: just the obsession with the rich people is finding whatever
- 40:27Speaker 4: that little spark of magic is that there is in
- 40:29Speaker 4: the world, whatever that whatever that astrology is, whatever that
- 40:33Speaker 4: full moon is, whatever the you know, whatever the little
- 40:35Speaker 4: the in between the ship and the ether, you know,
- 40:37Speaker 4: and it's like, yeah, you totally get it. I see
- 40:40Speaker 4: it with people in my own life. It's like, you know,
- 40:41Speaker 4: you get somebody and then it's like, Okay, all of
- 40:43Speaker 4: a sudden, we're going to reiki and doing wicca and
- 40:45Speaker 4: all this shit. And it's it's interesting, it makes sense.
- 40:47Speaker 4: I mean even in my own life, it's like, I
- 40:48Speaker 4: don't know, I'm not as worried about money as I
- 40:50Speaker 4: used to be. And I did spend fucking two hours
- 40:53Speaker 4: last night reading a PDF about chaos magic, so it's
- 40:57Speaker 4: all very interesting.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and this this is another thing that actually didn't
- 41:01Speaker 2: come about until the Satanic panic, that this message was
- 41:05Speaker 2: in this song wasn't a thing that became public until
- 41:08Speaker 2: nineteen eighty two, when this organization called the Trinity Broadcasting
- 41:14Speaker 2: Network claimed this message was there and if you weren't
- 41:19Speaker 2: able to pick it up, here's what the backwards messages.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Here's to my sweet Satan, the one whose little path
- 41:26Speaker 2: would make me sad, whose power is Satan.
- 41:29Speaker 3: He'll give you, He'll give six sixty six.
- 41:32Speaker 2: There was a little tool shed where he made us
- 41:35Speaker 2: suffer sad, Satan. And it really does sound like he's
- 41:38Speaker 2: saying that.
- 41:39Speaker 3: It.
- 41:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it sounds a lot clearer than a lot of these,
- 41:42Speaker 4: and that is very creepy. It's like it's a little gibberishy,
- 41:45Speaker 4: but there's like enough of a you know, it's like
- 41:47Speaker 4: a lyric, you know, it's like you could certainly imply
- 41:50Speaker 4: or find some meaning there. And it like the shed,
- 41:53Speaker 4: you know, the little shed that feels very Yakubian, you know,
- 41:56Speaker 4: like he like that's where he, you know, made us
- 41:58Speaker 4: out of pigguts or whatever.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Well, also kind of reminds me of the thing that
- 42:03Speaker 2: happened during the Satanic Panic, the most which was daycare
- 42:06Speaker 2: operators getting thrown in prison for crimes they didn't commit.
- 42:10Speaker 2: And it was always like, oh there was a shit
- 42:12Speaker 2: they would take us too. Where there was a room
- 42:14Speaker 2: in the basement, they would take us too. And it
- 42:16Speaker 2: like a lot of those convictions happened because of repressed memories.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Oh we're yeah, being pulled out of children who probably
- 42:25Speaker 2: aren't old enough to be subjected to that kind of thing,
- 42:28Speaker 2: and it just all seems so this one seems legitimately weird.
- 42:32Speaker 4: It's a pretty controversial book because it does happen that
- 42:35Speaker 4: people are sexually abusing they were pressed their memories. I've
- 42:37Speaker 4: read a lot of shit about this, But there was
- 42:40Speaker 4: one woman who kind of started a phenomenon with a
- 42:43Speaker 4: book that she read it for the name of it
- 42:44Speaker 4: Escapes Me about you know, kind of how to tell
- 42:46Speaker 4: if you were, you know, actually molested as a child,
- 42:49Speaker 4: and it was like a basket of symptoms that could
- 42:52Speaker 4: be a lot of different things. But it led to
- 42:53Speaker 4: this phenomenon where just thousands and thousands of people where
- 42:56Speaker 4: all of a sudden, like all of a sudden, had
- 42:59Speaker 4: kind of these sort of false memories or some people
- 43:02Speaker 4: that actually certainly was the case and they had these
- 43:04Speaker 4: real memories, and it was like it created this whole
- 43:07Speaker 4: kind of I don't know friction, you know, and the
- 43:10Speaker 4: PTSD community for many years and kind of sounds like
- 43:13Speaker 4: a similar thing. I do. I do like you bringing
- 43:16Speaker 4: up that organization that found this in the nineteen eighties
- 43:19Speaker 4: because it gives me. It gives me one of my
- 43:21Speaker 4: favorite thoughts, which is just a boiler room full of
- 43:23Speaker 4: like concerned parents, just like with all these satanic records,
- 43:27Speaker 4: just listening backwards with a notepad, going, oh, I heard
- 43:30Speaker 4: a Is that a bealls a bub? Play that back,
- 43:33Speaker 4: you know.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Imagine being the person who first discovered this, like that
- 43:38Speaker 2: would be that would be exhilarating. Oh yeah, Like I
- 43:41Speaker 2: bet there's something in there, and then you listen enough
- 43:44Speaker 2: and you're like, fuck, you gotta he gotta.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Go up to the front of the room and ring
- 43:48Speaker 4: the bell and get a candy out of the jar. Yeah.
- 43:51Speaker 4: They squiggle the marker a little bit on the thermometer
- 43:54Speaker 4: on the board. Yeah, yeah, that said.
- 43:55Speaker 2: I am glad that the Eagles got swept up in it,
- 43:57Speaker 2: because man, fuck the Eagles.
- 43:59Speaker 4: The Eagles.
- 44:00Speaker 2: At one point, also in the eighties, probably the same
- 44:03Speaker 2: time the led Zeppelin thing came out, people thought they
- 44:06Speaker 2: heard a satanic message in hotel California.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Which fun fact, I actually live in the Hotel California.
- 44:14Speaker 4: This is where they shot the album cover. It's in
- 44:16Speaker 4: the lobby. But uh oh really, uh huh yeah, Oh
- 44:19Speaker 4: that's awesome. It's not as cool as living in the
- 44:21Speaker 4: Fight Club building for years and years, but I do
- 44:23Speaker 4: my best.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Yeah, the first un Pop studio was in the fight
- 44:27Speaker 2: Club building or.
- 44:28Speaker 4: Now every time I drive past it with my girlfriend.
- 44:30Speaker 4: I brought it up maybe two or three times over
- 44:32Speaker 4: the you know, the months. Yeah, that's a billy and
- 44:34Speaker 4: she knows. Did you know that's really film fight clot?
- 44:36Speaker 4: I'm like, how fuck you?
- 44:38Speaker 3: It's an interesting fact. I've shared it myself.
- 44:41Speaker 2: So so the the Eagles. I just I think this
- 44:45Speaker 2: was accidental. But let's listen the they'll play it in
- 44:49Speaker 2: regular order than reverse regular order. What see, that's not
- 45:08Speaker 2: as convincing. It's really he's supposed to have been saying, Satan,
- 45:12Speaker 2: here's this he had me believe.
- 45:14Speaker 4: If I'm looking at the words that you're supposed to
- 45:16Speaker 4: be saying and I can't hear it, I feel like
- 45:18Speaker 4: it doesn't hold a lot of water.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Yeah, but I just like that the Eagles got swept
- 45:22Speaker 2: up in that and had to carry a satanic stink
- 45:25Speaker 2: with them all throughout the eighties.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's a it just doesn't really stick to
- 45:30Speaker 4: the image, you know.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Now this next song, this is one, This one is
- 45:35Speaker 2: very intentional, and I think it is actually the scariest
- 45:40Speaker 2: because it's like, according to Satanic lore, this is actually
- 45:45Speaker 2: useful because one of the things that is said to
- 45:48Speaker 2: be able to summon demons is reciting the Lord's Prayer
- 45:53Speaker 2: in reverse. So this song by a metal band called
- 45:58Speaker 2: Cradle of Filth, it's called Inner at Deviance Palace, and
- 46:02Speaker 2: when you play it backwards, it sounds like this.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Yeah, that's pretty it's pretty haunting.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the Lord's Prayer.
- 46:37Speaker 2: So if you've ever listened to that song the regular way,
- 46:40Speaker 2: you're probably possessed right now because it's the Lord's Prayer
- 46:44Speaker 2: and reverse that's how you summon demon. So you have
- 46:47Speaker 2: one in your home or your phone if nothing else phone,
- 46:51Speaker 2: it is possessed.
- 46:53Speaker 4: Yeah. I definitely I like this saying like, you know,
- 46:56Speaker 4: you know, whatever, it is just back or like if
- 46:57Speaker 4: I do the McDonald's jingle backwards, I get a salad.
- 47:00Speaker 4: You know, it's like that's kind of a fun. Uh.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it makes sense.
- 47:04Speaker 4: I got that one has the great that they've layered
- 47:06Speaker 4: the ambiance. It's like that definitely sounds like the kind
- 47:09Speaker 4: of thing where you'd, as a fourteen year old in
- 47:11Speaker 4: your room, you know, with your fucking spike jacket, you'd
- 47:14Speaker 4: go mining for messages.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and it I'm sure it sounds better reversed
- 47:20Speaker 2: because here's the thing. I'm not gonna listen to the
- 47:23Speaker 2: regular version. I'm just superstitious enough that like I'd be
- 47:27Speaker 2: the guy like I listened to the regular version and
- 47:30Speaker 2: it's like, fuck, I'm haunted now I gotta.
- 47:33Speaker 4: Move again, you know. And then you find out it's
- 47:35Speaker 4: linked to you when not your house, and you're like,
- 47:37Speaker 4: oh fuck, I.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Gotta call a priest. What are those COVID restrictions gonna be? Like,
- 47:41Speaker 2: I'm in California? Can you even get exercised right now?
- 47:46Speaker 4: I feel like everybody who's a professional exorcist has not
- 47:49Speaker 4: been able to afford to keep their website, you know, yeah,
- 47:52Speaker 4: renewed on wis dot com at this point in the pandemic.
- 47:55Speaker 4: You know, it's got to be as far as like
- 47:57Speaker 4: luxury expenses. I feel like exorcisms are pretty like, you know,
- 48:01Speaker 4: far down the list of like what you'd actually need,
- 48:03Speaker 4: so it would be a tough time to find like
- 48:05Speaker 4: a you know, sort of a hell boy side character
- 48:08Speaker 4: to take care of that for you.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, unless you could do it online. I took
- 48:12Speaker 2: an eye exam online when the lockdowns first started, and
- 48:16Speaker 2: it felt like one of the shadiest things I'd ever done.
- 48:18Speaker 2: It's like, this can't be how we're just supposed to work.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like everybody knows about the command plus function
- 48:26Speaker 4: of every web browser, right is.
- 48:29Speaker 2: How awesome would it have been if there was some
- 48:31Speaker 2: point in that online eye exam where they were like,
- 48:34Speaker 2: put your eye up to your camera. It's puff of
- 48:36Speaker 2: air in your eye. Jesus, you can do that.
- 48:40Speaker 4: That would be cool.
- 48:41Speaker 2: So Cradle of Filth Dinner at Deviant's Palace. That is
- 48:44Speaker 2: number two, about meeting Jeffrey Epstein in one of his parties.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Actually a lot of people don't know song number one
- 48:50Speaker 2: top of the list.
- 48:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah, this is kind of a curve ball.
- 48:54Speaker 2: But leave it to Prince to also be the best
- 48:57Speaker 2: at subliminal messages, because this.
- 49:00Speaker 4: This, I mean, he's a master's subliminal messages. He had
- 49:03Speaker 4: a big sheet that came up with the Super Bowl
- 49:05Speaker 4: so he could have a giant fake guitar cock.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and he looked like he was jerking off,
- 49:11Speaker 2: and like almost no one complained because it's Prince.
- 49:14Speaker 4: More people complained about like Jalo and Shakira's working than
- 49:17Speaker 4: they did about Prince's huge rock and roll cock.
- 49:19Speaker 2: They got I think thirteen hundred complaints over j lo
- 49:23Speaker 2: in Shakira.
- 49:25Speaker 4: That sounds right.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:26Speaker 4: I was doing a story about that for work, which
- 49:27Speaker 4: it's like, how much of a narc do you have
- 49:30Speaker 4: to be? Yeah?
- 49:31Speaker 3: The only state that didn't complain was Vermont, which is great.
- 49:34Speaker 4: Oh they no complaints for Vermont.
- 49:35Speaker 2: Yeah, they love Latin as we know that. So Prince
- 49:39Speaker 2: on the song Darling Nikki. What I like about this
- 49:42Speaker 2: is it's a subliminal message, and it's like, this is
- 49:46Speaker 2: kind of what subliminal messages were meant to be, because
- 49:50Speaker 2: this is his filthiest, dirtiest song west of Pussy Control.
- 49:57Speaker 4: This is maybe, yeah, maybe my tambourine.
- 49:59Speaker 3: But yeah, god damn it. That's a good song.
- 50:01Speaker 4: Oh, it's a good one.
- 50:02Speaker 3: That's one of my favorite print songs.
- 50:04Speaker 4: Dude, there's a guy that lived in this building that
- 50:06Speaker 4: was his engineer at Sunset Sound for many years. Oh yeah,
- 50:09Speaker 4: all these great fucking Prince stories.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, Oh I want to talk to that guy. Yeah.
- 50:14Speaker 3: I fucking love Tambourine so much.
- 50:16Speaker 2: Uh, but this is this is a filthy song, Darling Nicky.
- 50:20Speaker 3: This is the song that.
- 50:21Speaker 4: Tipper was one of the horny songs.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Yeah, this is the song.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Tipper Gore heard that inspired her to start the Parents'
- 50:27Speaker 2: Music Resource Center.
- 50:29Speaker 3: It was Darling Nicky, so.
- 50:30Speaker 4: You know it's cool.
- 50:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 2: She bought her kid's Purple Rain on vinyl for Christmas,
- 50:36Speaker 2: which cool gift.
- 50:37Speaker 4: Yeah, but also.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Didn't realize it was gonna be Prince talking dirty.
- 50:43Speaker 4: She was like, I thought this guy was just a
- 50:44Speaker 4: really nice leprechaun with a motorcycle that you know was gonna.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and like do your research late watch Purple Rain.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Like, maybe watch Purple Rain first. Oh.
- 50:54Speaker 4: I watched Purple Rain early in the pandemic, and goddamn,
- 50:56Speaker 4: is that a fun movie to watch?
- 50:58Speaker 3: Oh?
- 50:58Speaker 4: I wrote it has more callers than any other movie
- 51:02Speaker 4: you've ever seen in your life. It's like everybody's outfit
- 51:05Speaker 4: has like six unnecessary buckles. It's it all looks very
- 51:08Speaker 4: like a Kira you know, it's a he's cool, like
- 51:10Speaker 4: tecked out, like you know, I wrote a vice like
- 51:13Speaker 4: it's in Victorian England, but everybody's like, you know, gay
- 51:16Speaker 4: and on cocaine. It's fantastic.
- 51:18Speaker 2: I wrote a vice article a couple of years ago
- 51:20Speaker 2: that really got under people's skin that was called does
- 51:24Speaker 2: Purple Rain actually Suck? And it was about the movie,
- 51:28Speaker 2: not the album, And I feel like the movie does
- 51:32Speaker 2: kind of suck, Like.
- 51:33Speaker 4: It's not an amazing it's a fun movie to watch,
- 51:35Speaker 4: you know, it's the songs.
- 51:37Speaker 3: It didn't age well.
- 51:39Speaker 2: There's a lot of misogyny in it, and the acting
- 51:42Speaker 2: I think is terrible. Sure, the best Prince movie, as
- 51:47Speaker 2: I mentioned in that.
- 51:48Speaker 4: Art, I just same movie where the bad guy has
- 51:50Speaker 4: a big dance number, I mean.
- 51:52Speaker 2: A plus yeah, I mean that's that's obviously great. But
- 51:56Speaker 2: you can also find that in what I would argue
- 51:58Speaker 2: is the best Prince movie. Let me see if I can. Oh,
- 52:01Speaker 2: you've seen the poster Under the Cherry Moon is the
- 52:04Speaker 2: best Prince movie. That movie holds up and I feel
- 52:08Speaker 2: like it is one of the few examples where we
- 52:11Speaker 2: actually see Prince as he was, like, as a regular person,
- 52:16Speaker 2: like he's so charismatic and funny in that movie, and
- 52:20Speaker 2: like everyone hated it because it was like a black
- 52:22Speaker 2: and white period piece and people wanted another purple rain.
- 52:26Speaker 3: But go watch Under the Cherry Moon, America.
- 52:28Speaker 4: I think I will watch Under the Cherry Moon. It's good, Yeah,
- 52:31Speaker 4: because he's supposed to be, like, you know, just a
- 52:33Speaker 4: wildly charming motherfucker.
- 52:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:35Speaker 2: I do, honestly feel like it is the closest we
- 52:39Speaker 2: ever got to seeing the actual person Prince was, which
- 52:43Speaker 2: is crazy to say because the movie is about like
- 52:46Speaker 2: a Jigglow who's trying to scam Uh what's her name?
- 52:51Speaker 2: Damn it, I can't remember her name, but it's one
- 52:53Speaker 2: of her first roles.
- 52:54Speaker 4: I mean, stop acting like you didn't have me at Jigglow.
- 52:57Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so good.
- 52:59Speaker 2: Anyway, Let's listen to this reverse message at the end
- 53:02Speaker 2: of Darling Nicky because at the end of that song
- 53:05Speaker 2: there is a part that plays in reverse. And here's
- 53:09Speaker 2: why it's so subversive. See if you can hear what
- 53:11Speaker 2: he's saying.
- 53:18Speaker 5: I know.
- 53:51Speaker 2: So at the end of Darling Nikki there is a
- 53:53Speaker 2: refreshing bit of apocalyptic gospel music.
- 53:58Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's like the only kind of Christianity, which
- 54:01Speaker 4: is like, buckle your tits because he's coming back and
- 54:04Speaker 4: it's gonna be the Lake of Fire, you know.
- 54:07Speaker 2: Yeah it's and it's I love that he snuck it
- 54:10Speaker 2: in on a song like Darling Nicky.
- 54:12Speaker 4: And he's got the Bitch and Beach Boys harmonies and everything,
- 54:15Speaker 4: and yeah, uh, he's just the fucking king God.
- 54:18Speaker 3: I love Prince.
- 54:19Speaker 4: So did Tipper know about that? Did she discovered the
- 54:21Speaker 4: Jesus message? And in Darling Nikki, would out have changed
- 54:24Speaker 4: her mind at all?
- 54:25Speaker 2: I wonder if she made him go back and put
- 54:27Speaker 2: it in as a result of some legal proceedings.
- 54:30Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe it's not in the first pressing.
- 54:32Speaker 3: Yeah you can. I mean, now they have that technology.
- 54:35Speaker 2: If you want to make like we'll play the dirty
- 54:37Speaker 2: version of WAP, you just have to like embed some
- 54:41Speaker 2: credit card ads in it.
- 54:42Speaker 4: And see, I feel like there's so many just SoundCloud,
- 54:45Speaker 4: you know, like a white guy's making rat beats who
- 54:48Speaker 4: are like, oh, I'm gonna use this and I'm gonna
- 54:49Speaker 4: put and then three years later they're just depressed because
- 54:52Speaker 4: no one's found their secret message inside their you know,
- 54:54Speaker 4: bound to type beat Kanye instrumental click here.
- 54:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's interesting. I am interested to see how
- 55:02Speaker 2: far that technology goes now that we have some version
- 55:06Speaker 2: of it that might actually work. But I doubt any
- 55:10Speaker 2: of the messages here inspired anyone to do anything except
- 55:14Speaker 2: maybe like build an apocalypse bunker if you're listening to
- 55:17Speaker 2: Darling Nikki. But people were doing that in the eighties anyway.
- 55:21Speaker 4: Mm hmm. Yeah. And I feel like if there any
- 55:24Speaker 4: new subliminal messages in music, is just going to be
- 55:27Speaker 4: like a guy cash into twenty thousand dollars check to
- 55:30Speaker 4: be try the new Popeyes chicken sandwich. You know, it's
- 55:33Speaker 4: like it's not gonna be much more sponsored. You know,
- 55:35Speaker 4: it's just it's just another piece of real estate for
- 55:38Speaker 4: you know, to shove intellectual properties into.
- 55:41Speaker 2: And I know we left a lot of stuff off
- 55:43Speaker 2: the list because we I mean we're already over an hour,
- 55:46Speaker 2: Like how long do you want us to talk about this?
- 55:49Speaker 3: And here's the thing.
- 55:50Speaker 2: If you want to tweet at us at Conspira Pops
- 55:53Speaker 2: and tell us like your favorite version of this, fine,
- 55:56Speaker 2: just don't be a dick about it.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Don't don't tweet at.
- 55:59Speaker 2: Me and say, oh, I can't believe you missed this one.
- 56:03Speaker 2: I didn't miss it. I saw it. I just didn't
- 56:05Speaker 2: want to talk to the list. You know, yeah, this is
- 56:08Speaker 2: the stuff I wanted to talk about. So if you
- 56:09Speaker 2: want to twee an example at me, just don't be
- 56:11Speaker 2: an asshole.
- 56:12Speaker 4: You listen to me? All right?
- 56:15Speaker 3: So do we have.
