- 0:22SPEAKER_00: In this week's shorter episodes, we're talking about a few ways to start writing today.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: One of the great ways to do this, and one of the simplest ways, honestly, is by writing blog posts.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Now there have been rumors for a long time that blogging is dead, that it's been replaced with podcasting, that social media and video have made blogging irrelevant.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And there's of course certainly more options today that compete for people's attention than there was 10 or 15 years ago, but blogging is far from dead.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: A blog is a great way to get your ideas out into the world and share those ideas with others.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: It's also a great place to develop your writing chops, to work out your ideas on different topics, and to present your viewpoint to the world.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: So I highly encourage you to have a blog on your website.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Now, maybe I should just be brutally honest, and I hope that if you've been listening to this podcast for a while, that you know that I really value just being honest about things and telling you the truth.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So let me just tell you the brutally honest truth, okay?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: It is really hard for anybody to take you seriously as a writer if you don't have a blog of some kind.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: After all, blogging is like the most basic entry-level form of writing.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: So it's sort of like the least thing that you should be doing.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Now you can share your blog post on social media, on podcasts like I do with this show.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: You can share them in email newsletters, or you can use blog posts in book chapters.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I've done that before.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: I see blog posts as a fantastic building blocks for other types of content.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: For me, my podcast and my blog are ways for me to just work out ideas about things, to put ideas out into the world to see if they stick.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: But a blog to me is sort of like the basic level of what you should be doing as a writer.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Now, also remember that the more stuff that you post online, the more material that you're giving Google to index on your behalf.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Every blog post that you put out there is like a little soldier that goes out there recruiting people to come back to your website.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: So if you don't already have a blog, I would recommend starting one through WordPress or Squarespace.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: It really doesn't take very long to set up, and it could potentially change your life.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So here's today's question: how could writing a weekly blog post impact your life a year from now if you wrote every single week?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Today's episode is an excerpt from our ebook, Start Writing Today Five Simple Ways to Begin Changing Lives with Your Words.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: You can get this for free along with six other ebooks on writing as part of our free Daily Writer Starter Kit.

- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much, and I'll see you tomorrow.
