- 0:00Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome. It's time
- 0:02Speaker 1: now for one on one with the pro right here
- 0:04Speaker 1: at KAY one, the one you trust. I'm Tom Davis
- 0:08Speaker 1: and I'm going to be speaking here with our neighbor
- 0:11Speaker 1: next door at Health and Wellness, Mss Aaron. How are
- 0:14Speaker 1: you doing today?
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm great?
- 0:15Speaker 1: How are you well? Wonderful? But I if I start
- 0:18Speaker 1: feeling bad, I know where to go.
- 0:20Speaker 2: That's right right across the street.
- 0:22Speaker 1: You got convenient hours too, I might I might say
- 0:24Speaker 1: seven days a week.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Yeah, seven days a week Monday through Friday seven am
- 0:29Speaker 2: to seven pm. And on the weekend we're open nine
- 0:31Speaker 2: to five. So we're always there for you, that's for sure.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Oh my goodness. You guys take care of all kinds
- 0:35Speaker 1: of different things, and you even get ahead of things
- 0:38Speaker 1: on preventative health too, And that is something a lot
- 0:42Speaker 1: of people are starting to look into, isn't it.
- 0:44Speaker 2: It is, especially you know, it's a new year, so
- 0:46Speaker 2: people are starting to kind of think about what they
- 0:49Speaker 2: want to do differently in twenty twenty five, So that
- 0:51Speaker 2: is definitely It's definitely something we're seeing a lot of
- 0:53Speaker 2: people come in and ask about. So that's one of
- 0:55Speaker 2: the things that we do there.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Now when we talk about health and wellness, you do
- 1:00Speaker 1: a little bit more than listen to a heartbeat, take
- 1:02Speaker 1: of polls and say, uh, you do all kinds of
- 1:06Speaker 1: things with your wellness visits. You have everything from what
- 1:10Speaker 1: like labs, vitals, and just all kinds of things.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, we can really do know everything that kind
- 1:16Speaker 2: of a stater primary care clinic can do. We can
- 1:19Speaker 2: do all the labs, we can do all that point
- 1:21Speaker 2: of care testing. As we are seeing flu a lot
- 1:23Speaker 2: in Oklahoma now COVID, so we can take care of
- 1:27Speaker 2: all of that for sure.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it is that time of the year, you know,
- 1:31Speaker 1: after the holidays and everybody's been around each other and
- 1:33Speaker 1: around each other's kids do because they've been at school
- 1:36Speaker 1: and they've been around plenty of people. A little sharing
- 1:39Speaker 1: comes post holiday and that they usually comes to the
- 1:41Speaker 1: form of colds and flu.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I imagine, Yes, it definitely does. We are we're seeing,
- 1:47Speaker 2: like I mentioned, an uptake of flu in Oklahoma for sure.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We've been seeing a lot of that in our clinic
- 1:52Speaker 2: here in Bartlesville. So yeah, if you're starting to fill
- 1:55Speaker 2: a little onto the water, definitely come in and we
- 1:56Speaker 2: can get you fixed up.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We getting that RSV thing going around here too, a little.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, there's some of it. A lot of kids are
- 2:03Speaker 2: getting RSV this time of year is pretty common as well.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. Now when we talk about our clinic,
- 2:10Speaker 1: youre health and wellness right here at the corner of
- 2:13Speaker 1: Quappa and Frank Phillips. It doesn't look like a huge building.
- 2:18Speaker 1: But it doesn't have to be a huge building. You're
- 2:20Speaker 1: not running a hospital. We are running We are running
- 2:24Speaker 1: a clinic here and you guys make great use of
- 2:27Speaker 1: your space.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah. So we're a pretty small building, like you mentioned,
- 2:32Speaker 2: We really just pride ourselves on using the space that
- 2:35Speaker 2: we have efficiently. Even though we are small, I like
- 2:39Speaker 2: to call a small but mighty, we can still offer
- 2:41Speaker 2: everything that you know, most primary cares are going to offer,
- 2:44Speaker 2: you know, full visits. We do prevented a health urgent
- 2:47Speaker 2: care needs wellness visits. So just because we have a
- 2:51Speaker 2: small building, it doesn't mean that we can provide less
- 2:54Speaker 2: care than maybe a facility that is larger than ours.
- 2:57Speaker 2: But it does mean that we're going to provide more
- 2:59Speaker 2: personal life care. We aren't going to have you know,
- 3:02Speaker 2: a big slew of patients and the building out. Once
- 3:05Speaker 2: we're di scheduling a little bit longer visits, we can
- 3:07Speaker 2: spend more time with our patients. So yeah, even though
- 3:10Speaker 2: the building is small, it doesn't mean that our care
- 3:12Speaker 2: is small.
- 3:12Speaker 1: No, no, no, not at all. In fact, it's quite mighty.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I've known people who who've come by for a visit
- 3:18Speaker 1: and they see, my goodness sakes, you'd be surprised what
- 3:21Speaker 1: they can do in there. And it's really interesting too.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I understand you even do some telehealth as well. Is
- 3:28Speaker 1: that is that correct?
- 3:30Speaker 2: We do? So our model is unique. So I'm the provider,
- 3:35Speaker 2: I'm a position assistant. I'm the main provider that see
- 3:37Speaker 2: patients there, and you know, some days I'm in the
- 3:39Speaker 2: clinic seeing patients in person, and then other days I'm
- 3:43Speaker 2: actually remoting into the clinics. So we have really cool
- 3:46Speaker 2: telehealth equipment where we can listen to heart and lungs,
- 3:49Speaker 2: we can look in ears and throats, so even if
- 3:52Speaker 2: I'm not physically on site, you can still get the
- 3:54Speaker 2: same level of care. We have wonderful, two wonderful LPNs
- 3:58Speaker 2: Katie and Rachelle that work there and they are sometimes
- 4:02Speaker 2: they act as as at my hands essentially, but they're
- 4:05Speaker 2: still able to do the same testing to still draw
- 4:08Speaker 2: the same labs, they're able to give the same medications.
- 4:12Speaker 2: So really, this model allows us to expand access to
- 4:15Speaker 2: care by spreading providers out among multiple communities, and so
- 4:19Speaker 2: it's different. But I will say that we've yet to
- 4:22Speaker 2: have a patient that was unhappy with their cares it
- 4:25Speaker 2: was a telemed based visit. So it is our model
- 4:28Speaker 2: is unique. But we believe that it's the future of medicine,
- 4:31Speaker 2: and we believe that it's a way to expand good
- 4:33Speaker 2: quality healthcare to lots of different communities.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Indeed, and you're doing it quite well, you know, Like
- 4:39Speaker 1: you say, you're not packing up a waiting room because
- 4:43Speaker 1: that's just not the model. And that is also a
- 4:46Speaker 1: good thing too, if you're a person who might be
- 4:48Speaker 1: susceptible to things, for thinking, oh, the last thing I
- 4:50Speaker 1: want to do is go to the doctor's office to
- 4:52Speaker 1: get sick, and it prevents that right then and there.
- 4:57Speaker 1: But no, really, you've got it all right there being
- 5:00Speaker 1: a PA that is really remarkable. My daughter just graduated
- 5:06Speaker 1: as a PA just about a month or so ago,
- 5:08Speaker 1: one of my daughters, one of my five, and I
- 5:11Speaker 1: gotta tell you, she's keeping the Dad. Healthy. She's trying
- 5:15Speaker 1: to do that, dad, How you doing? You're doing this?
- 5:18Speaker 1: We got okay, I said, look, you know I can
- 5:19Speaker 1: go to Aaron right next door. Okay, I'm nothing, nothing
- 5:22Speaker 1: against exists, but you know she can see me. But
- 5:26Speaker 1: you do a great job over there, and you do
- 5:29Speaker 1: have quite a client tele Now. I do know that
- 5:32Speaker 1: some folks will say, well, it looks like an interesting
- 5:36Speaker 1: place to check out, but it's so new, it's so new. Well,
- 5:39Speaker 1: you know something, you've been here for several months. It's
- 5:41Speaker 1: not that new new And six.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Months now we've been open, I think, if my memory
- 5:48Speaker 2: serves me correctly, Yes, it's been a scenario a little while, and.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Folks are becoming much more familiar with the way things
- 5:56Speaker 1: go and how it operates and everything. And like you say,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I see it. Did he stream of folks coming into
- 6:01Speaker 1: to get well and that's really a good sign.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah, we we have a lot of return visits, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 2: of course, you know, being a new business, we track everything, right,
- 6:09Speaker 2: we love data, and so we are definitely noticing we're
- 6:13Speaker 2: having a lot of return patients. And so you know
- 6:16Speaker 2: what that means is they were happy with their first
- 6:18Speaker 2: visit to our clinic and they're coming back. We also
- 6:21Speaker 2: ask every patient, how did you hear about us? And
- 6:24Speaker 2: almost every patient you know, of course to get some
- 6:27Speaker 2: people that say I got your mailer or I heard
- 6:29Speaker 2: you on the radio, but you know, the majority is
- 6:32Speaker 2: they heard about us from a friend. And so again,
- 6:35Speaker 2: I think that just communicates that patients are so happy
- 6:37Speaker 2: with the care that they're getting and so they're telling
- 6:39Speaker 2: their friends and family about it.
- 6:41Speaker 1: What is the importance of having a primary care doctor.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I mean, some folks will say, well, I only get
- 6:47Speaker 1: checked on once in a while, maybe every six or
- 6:49Speaker 1: seven years if I'm feeling really bad, But as time
- 6:52Speaker 1: goes on, you kind of need to make that on
- 6:55Speaker 1: the regular. Yeah.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Absolutely, And you know that just really that's about preventative care.
- 7:01Speaker 2: And you know, it's twenty twenty five. A lot of
- 7:04Speaker 2: people when they get into a new year, they start
- 7:06Speaker 2: saying things like I'm going to pay attention to my
- 7:09Speaker 2: health this year, or I'm going to have a goal
- 7:11Speaker 2: to get more active, or I would like to lose
- 7:13Speaker 2: some weight. There's a lot of different goals that people
- 7:15Speaker 2: can really have, especially around their health and well being.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Heading into a new year and starting with your primary
- 7:22Speaker 2: care provider is the best place to really begin that journey.
- 7:26Speaker 2: You know, having a primary care provider, we're going to
- 7:28Speaker 2: have the conversation about preventative health needs. So everything from
- 7:33Speaker 2: the basics of let's make sure your blood pressure is controlled,
- 7:36Speaker 2: Let's check some basic labs, and let's look at your
- 7:38Speaker 2: thyroid levels, let's look at your cholesterol, let's look at
- 7:41Speaker 2: your kidneys and liver and your blood counts, and just
- 7:44Speaker 2: the basic functioning systems of the body. And of course
- 7:47Speaker 2: we're going to talk about cancer screening prevention, everything from
- 7:51Speaker 2: breast cancer to colon cancer to cervical cancer, just all
- 7:54Speaker 2: those recommended preventative tests. And the goal is to go
- 7:59Speaker 2: to a proactive not a reactive.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:02Speaker 2: We want to be proactive.
- 8:04Speaker 1: About our health and get ahead of it.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Yeah, well we're going to get ahead of it. We're
- 8:07Speaker 2: gonna if there's something wrong, we're going to catch it early.
- 8:09Speaker 2: If we know that we have something going on that
- 8:11Speaker 2: could lead to more problems down the road if it's
- 8:13Speaker 2: not addressed, we want to catch it before it causes
- 8:15Speaker 2: that problem. And so definitely having a primary care to
- 8:19Speaker 2: get back to your question, is really a best the
- 8:22Speaker 2: best place to start for making sure you're looking at
- 8:26Speaker 2: that basic foundational things with your body that's really focusing
- 8:30Speaker 2: them of presented of health. And it's also the best
- 8:32Speaker 2: place to start if you're wanting to set a health
- 8:35Speaker 2: goal in twenty twenty five, if you're wanting to get
- 8:37Speaker 2: healthier in twenty twenty five, if you want to make
- 8:40Speaker 2: any adjustments or make any lifestyle changes, the primary care
- 8:44Speaker 2: office is the best place to start.
- 8:45Speaker 1: We're talking with Aaron Ashley and she is with health
- 8:48Speaker 1: and Wellness right here in Bartlotoville, right here at Kua
- 8:51Speaker 1: Pott and Frank Phillips near the radio station. And you
- 8:54Speaker 1: know some of us have well maybe bet the elbow
- 8:59Speaker 1: a little too much, maybe didn't do table pushaways as
- 9:03Speaker 1: often as we should have over the holidays, and we're
- 9:06Speaker 1: finding ourselves now as it's halfway through January. This stuff
- 9:10Speaker 1: is sticking around a little bit longer than it used to.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And you know, your your your weight is all of
- 9:16Speaker 1: a sudden noticeable instead of a temporary thing, and that
- 9:20Speaker 1: kind of becomes with agingior metabolism slows down. Might be
- 9:23Speaker 1: a good idea to kind of get out ahead of
- 9:25Speaker 1: that and just see what's going on and see what
- 9:27Speaker 1: problems could could develop from that.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, No, I just mentioned it's it's a new year,
- 9:33Speaker 2: and this is this is a time where everybody's looking
- 9:35Speaker 2: to make goals, they want to make changes. They you know,
- 9:38Speaker 2: we have this like interesting new energy, right and in
- 9:41Speaker 2: this new motivation that kind of sets in January one.
- 9:45Speaker 2: And you know, if you're somebody that's looking to make
- 9:48Speaker 2: a change to your health at all, I have a
- 9:51Speaker 2: few tips that I like to really talk to my
- 9:53Speaker 2: patients about, and really the biggest one is start small.
- 9:59Speaker 2: You know, it's very eas to get these big ambitions
- 10:02Speaker 2: and you say I'm going to lose ten pounds or
- 10:04Speaker 2: twenty pounds or fifty pounds, or I want to run
- 10:07Speaker 2: a marathon in two weeks. You know, we get very ambitious.
- 10:11Speaker 2: But the problem is is that sometimes when we have
- 10:14Speaker 2: in our mind that we're going to make these massive
- 10:15Speaker 2: changes in a short period of time, we try and
- 10:18Speaker 2: go crash diets, or we try to do things that
- 10:21Speaker 2: are not sustainable or maybe even instances that aren't healthy.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And so my biggest advice to patients when they're looking
- 10:28Speaker 2: to make a change, a lifestyle change as we call it,
- 10:31Speaker 2: it's just start small. So when you're starting small, you're
- 10:35Speaker 2: just choosing one thing that you're going to tweak. I
- 10:38Speaker 2: think about telling people you're going to just make a
- 10:41Speaker 2: one degree change. If you think about a compass, if
- 10:45Speaker 2: you just move the needle one degree in a direction,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you're going to end up in a completely different place.
- 10:50Speaker 2: In the end, you don't have to necessarily make that
- 10:52Speaker 2: full ninety degree turn very quickly. You can just do
- 10:56Speaker 2: one degree at a time. And data shows, very very strong,
- 11:00Speaker 2: data shows consistently that big sweeping changes almost never last.
- 11:05Speaker 2: It's those little changes, those those one degree shifts at
- 11:09Speaker 2: a time is where patients find long standing, lasting change.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And this can be in a dietary change. You know,
- 11:17Speaker 2: this can be we're going to make some very small
- 11:19Speaker 2: dietary changes. This could be in starting to become more active,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you know, instead of being sitting or trying to you know,
- 11:27Speaker 2: run a marathon. You know, some people it's like just
- 11:29Speaker 2: start out walking. Just get out and walk, find a friends,
- 11:32Speaker 2: get out and walk. So that's my biggest advice is
- 11:35Speaker 2: start small. Look to making changes that are sustainable long term,
- 11:41Speaker 2: not things that are really drastic.
- 11:44Speaker 1: You know, So open folks to underline that and put
- 11:47Speaker 1: that with the highlighter because I've seen the fellas over
- 11:50Speaker 1: the years that President company included, I'm going to make
- 11:54Speaker 1: some changes, and you go out and you start doing
- 11:56Speaker 1: a workout routine like you're trying to make the Marines,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and the next thing you know, you're injured and for
- 12:02Speaker 1: like six weeks you're laid up and you put on
- 12:04Speaker 1: more weight. Yeah, and you know that's that's not it's
- 12:08Speaker 1: totally wrong. You got to do what she says, gradual, gradual, gradual.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You'll get there. You'll get this.
- 12:15Speaker 2: And I love lifestyle coaching. That's one thing that I'm
- 12:18Speaker 2: pretty passionate about. As in healthcare, a lot of what
- 12:22Speaker 2: I do, unfortunately is trying to, you know, help fix
- 12:24Speaker 2: the things that we find that are wrong with people, right,
- 12:27Speaker 2: But I one of my true passions is really just
- 12:30Speaker 2: lifestyle coaching, helping people with very tangible changes they can
- 12:34Speaker 2: make to change their lifestyle. So if there's anybody that's
- 12:38Speaker 2: interested in that, you can make an appointment for me
- 12:40Speaker 2: and we can do a primary care visit that's all
- 12:43Speaker 2: about lifestyle changes. We can get you connected with the
- 12:47Speaker 2: nutritionist if you really need some very specific help around
- 12:51Speaker 2: some dietary recommendation. So definitely, if anyone is saying, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 2: twenty twenty five, I want to make some changes. Give
- 12:59Speaker 2: us a call because I'm definitely helping. I'm definitely happy
- 13:02Speaker 2: to get get you started on that journey.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Well, that is great one, a wonderful way to start
- 13:06Speaker 1: the new year and and help create a better version
- 13:11Speaker 1: of an already pretty good self. So you know, you
- 13:14Speaker 1: got the starting you got the building blocks there, folks,
- 13:17Speaker 1: this is where we can go and make those improvements.
- 13:20Speaker 1: And the thing is that in time, you'll start to
- 13:22Speaker 1: notice them, maybe a little quicker than you think, even
- 13:25Speaker 1: though you're doing gradually, you'll notice it before other people will.
- 13:28Speaker 1: But it starts from the inside out, and it all
- 13:32Speaker 1: starts with actually just feeling better. M hmm.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Absolutely. I love that you said that, that you're already
- 13:39Speaker 2: you're already good self. Like, you know, even if we
- 13:42Speaker 2: have some things we want to change, I think just
- 13:43Speaker 2: remembering at the core that you're actually great how you
- 13:46Speaker 2: are and wanting to make some changes is okay. But
- 13:50Speaker 2: that that doesn't mean that you are a bad person
- 13:52Speaker 2: or your body is bad, you know. I think we
- 13:54Speaker 2: need to change kind of how we're talking about our bodies.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And so I think that that is is just a
- 13:59Speaker 2: good truth or belief.
- 14:00Speaker 1: So I'm glad to of that, alrighty, And where can
- 14:02Speaker 1: we get a hold of you?
- 14:04Speaker 2: Absolutely? So, like you mentioned, we're right across the street
- 14:06Speaker 2: from the radio station. We're a brick building with a
- 14:09Speaker 2: lot of red accents which helping them all this right there,
- 14:11Speaker 2: you can walk in. We, like I said, we're available.
- 14:14Speaker 2: We're open seven days a week, Monday through Friday seven
- 14:17Speaker 2: am to seven pm, and Saturday and Sunday nine to five.
- 14:20Speaker 2: You can always call our clinic five three nine three
- 14:23Speaker 2: three seven zero zero zero six for Selle and Katie.
- 14:26Speaker 2: We'll be there to answer your questions to get you scheduled.
- 14:29Speaker 2: We take most insurances, we take all medicares and medicaids,
- 14:34Speaker 2: and then most commercial products. So yeah, we we're happy
- 14:37Speaker 2: to serve anybody. And I know there's I know there's
- 14:39Speaker 2: a lot of local communities in bartles around Bartlesville, you know,
- 14:43Speaker 2: Boring and Ramona and Dewey, and you know there's all
- 14:46Speaker 2: these different smaller communities that don't have healthcare. And so
- 14:49Speaker 2: we encourage those communities come see us. We're happy to
- 14:52Speaker 2: take care of you and we're happy to be your
- 14:55Speaker 2: provider even if you don't live in Bartlesville.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Well, that is absolutely wonderful. I want to thank you
- 14:59Speaker 1: for being with this today.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I appreciate it. I've had the pleasure of speaking with
- 15:03Speaker 2: you many times, and we really are thankful that you're
- 15:06Speaker 2: you're willing to use some of your air time to
- 15:07Speaker 2: talk about health and things like that.
