- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The world's a big podcasts.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Open it up to our emailers and our callers and
- 0:21Speaker 2: see what they want to talk about, really anything.
- 0:23Speaker 3: What are you watching on TV movies?
- 0:26Speaker 4: We're going to get back onto a soap conversation?
- 0:28Speaker 3: Something wrong with that?
- 0:29Speaker 4: You got a problem with that?
- 0:32Speaker 3: Think you're better than me?
- 0:33Speaker 2: And then locally, you know, with the other team. Big
- 0:36Speaker 2: trade for the Celtics, Prazinca coming to Boston. Rhode Island
- 0:41Speaker 2: drivers are the worst drivers because the state is so small.
- 0:45Speaker 2: They don't get enough practice. First of all, I find
- 0:49Speaker 2: them very disrespectful. If there's a big distance between you
- 0:52Speaker 2: and the contents, that's disrespectful too.
- 0:54Speaker 5: Could you ever see anybody who finds disrespecting more places?
- 0:58Speaker 4: Pet peeve of mine. People not knowing how to use roundabouts.
- 1:03Speaker 6: Okay, car with the light turned.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Screen and it takes how long do you wait? Yes?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Do you use your Morton friend?
- 1:09Speaker 6: People in the left lane who drive the exact spin
- 1:12Speaker 6: limit or below.
- 1:13Speaker 5: It's just soap with a slot. She's interested in nonsense.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Just not your nonsense.
- 1:18Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Something tells me we're going to have a little time
- 1:25Speaker 5: for someone nonsense this week. It's a skeleton crew here,
- 1:28Speaker 5: to say the least, with with Paul Parole, who had
- 1:33Speaker 5: Paul Parola being one of the only ones in at
- 1:35Speaker 5: this time of year, with Evan Lazarre, and we brought
- 1:38Speaker 5: Tease down for a quick cameo appearance this week. But
- 1:41Speaker 5: Te's bombing from upstairs, coming in, coming in hot. Yeah,
- 1:46Speaker 5: I think we'll have some well, we'll try to start
- 1:51Speaker 5: off at least with some with some Patriots talk, some
- 1:53Speaker 5: football talk in general. Hopefully the weather's been so miserable
- 1:59Speaker 5: around here that hopefully at least our local followers are
- 2:03Speaker 5: paying attention and then tuning into to our Patriots on filter,
- 2:07Speaker 5: we'll get plenty of calls and emails. We're going to
- 2:10Speaker 5: do this a little differently today without Fred, because Fred's
- 2:12Speaker 5: on vacation. Normally he steers the ship. We're gonna have
- 2:16Speaker 5: Evan handle the emails.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Hopefully.
- 2:18Speaker 5: We're experiencing some technical difficulties right now, and Paul via
- 2:24Speaker 5: Matt is going to handle the call screener, So write in,
- 2:30Speaker 5: call in. We're always looking for some interaction with our
- 2:34Speaker 5: favorite fans. Just coming off the weekend. I think we'll
- 2:38Speaker 5: start with DeAndre Hopkins. But before we get into any
- 2:40Speaker 5: of that, guys, what's going on. Haven't talked to you guys.
- 2:44Speaker 5: So how was the weekend?
- 2:45Speaker 4: Weekend was good? I think we should mention that Fred
- 2:49Speaker 4: Induce are both on vacation, which tells me that, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 4: we're the poor ones that can't afford to go on vacation.
- 2:56Speaker 4: In this room right here, Fred is on the cape,
- 2:59Speaker 4: right at his mansion on the Cape, and I believe
- 3:03Speaker 4: Deuce is in Hawaii, Hawaii, La Hawaii at this point.
- 3:08Speaker 5: I think he's in Hawaii.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Now, yes, actually, Douce have a high noon.
- 3:13Speaker 4: You know, maybe he should call in a couple of
- 3:14Speaker 4: high nuns deep and see where it goes.
- 3:17Speaker 3: The wind in the background. That would be great there,
- 3:19Speaker 3: even though at time it is in Hawaii.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Yeah, it's probably like six am.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Right, oh, right, right time. I'm not good with time changes.
- 3:27Speaker 5: Google it.
- 3:28Speaker 7: Oh.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Yeah, so there was I would say, not necessarily any
- 3:33Speaker 4: breaking news or anything.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I don't want to overstate it, but there was a
- 3:36Speaker 5: little furthering of the DeAndre Hopkins story this morning. I
- 3:40Speaker 5: thought because South Palatonio, who I think is a pretty
- 3:43Speaker 5: respected ESPN guy, you know, one of the longer tenured
- 3:47Speaker 5: U members of the NFL media at ESPN. He was
- 3:51Speaker 5: on ESPN Radio this morning and he sort of expressed
- 3:54Speaker 5: his thought that I think that they were asked him
- 3:57Speaker 5: that specifically about Hopkins in New England, and he felt
- 4:01Speaker 5: I think he hears it. I believe so he thinks
- 4:03Speaker 5: that's gonna end up being that way. But he did
- 4:06Speaker 5: add some wrinkles to the story, which I don't think
- 4:09Speaker 5: if you guys correct me if I'm wrong. I hadn't
- 4:11Speaker 5: heard but a couple of other teams in Cleveland, in
- 4:13Speaker 5: Carolina that lurking, lurking expected to make a push.
- 4:18Speaker 4: You never want to be lurking. That's creepy.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Well, I worry about teams like that, and I'll tell
- 4:21Speaker 5: you why, especially Carolina team that's sort of looking to
- 4:28Speaker 5: get out of the doldrums, is maybe willing to go
- 4:31Speaker 5: a little bit further than you are. They have an
- 4:34Speaker 5: owner with as deep a pockets as any in the NFL,
- 4:39Speaker 5: and they have a number one overall pick quarterback in
- 4:42Speaker 5: Bryce Young that they're going to want to get, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 5: some weapons around so I worry about a team like Carolina,
- 4:48Speaker 5: even though I know a lot of people you know
- 4:50Speaker 5: listening to the talk radio this morning just sort of
- 4:52Speaker 5: laughed off the Panthers. I was like, I don't laugh
- 4:55Speaker 5: those I don't laugh those.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Guys out here, like he just wants to get paid.
- 4:57Speaker 5: To just carry us on your thoughts and what you
- 5:00Speaker 5: what do you guys think of the salpal I won't
- 5:02Speaker 5: call it a report, but his comments on the.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Radio, Well, another connection to Carolina is that's where he's from.
- 5:07Speaker 4: He's from the Carolina area, went to Clemson, so he's
- 5:11Speaker 4: from that neck of the woods. So maybe it is
- 5:13Speaker 4: a little bit like Stefan Gilmour going to the Panthers
- 5:16Speaker 4: a couple of years ago as a homecoming of sorts.
- 5:20Speaker 4: But I'm with you that the two things that you
- 5:22Speaker 4: have to worry about with Hopkins if you're a Patriots fan,
- 5:24Speaker 4: is one a contender like Buffalo or Kansas City opening
- 5:28Speaker 4: up the room to be able to bring him in,
- 5:30Speaker 4: or someone out bidding you that is at least in
- 5:34Speaker 4: the ballpark or in the same sort of vicinity. I
- 5:36Speaker 4: think the Patriots have a little bit more aspirations than
- 5:39Speaker 4: the Panthers, just because It is year one of Bryce
- 5:42Speaker 4: Young and we'll see what he brings to the table.
- 5:44Speaker 5: But I don't think there's much of a question. I
- 5:46Speaker 5: think last week I sort of irritated some people by
- 5:49Speaker 5: suggesting that Tennessee and New England not all that different. Yeah,
- 5:52Speaker 5: I think the Patriots are a clear step above with Carolina.
- 5:57Speaker 5: Is the only thing about Carolina is they playing a
- 5:59Speaker 5: terrible vision that anybody could win.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Yeah. The Browns has been out there a little bit
- 6:05Speaker 4: because of Deshaun Watson and because of his relationship going
- 6:08Speaker 4: back to Houston with Deshaun Watson. So Deshaun Watson had
- 6:12Speaker 4: a press conference during OTAs where he said love to
- 6:16Speaker 4: have him, right, I love to be to team up
- 6:19Speaker 4: with him again, And they did talk about it, but
- 6:22Speaker 4: Mary Kay Cabot came out and said the Browns are
- 6:25Speaker 4: not interested.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Yeah, And I saw Florio sort of furthered that a
- 6:31Speaker 5: little bit this morning, saying, you know, Watson continues to
- 6:34Speaker 5: say it, but the Browns reportedly are not interested. Well,
- 6:36Speaker 5: they've made a lot of moves in that room. You know,
- 6:38Speaker 5: They've added Amari Cooper, they added Elijah Moore this offseason,
- 6:42Speaker 5: so they've already tried to stack that wide receiver room,
- 6:45Speaker 5: So I think that they're looking to see what do
- 6:47Speaker 5: we have here first before they will go ahead and
- 6:51Speaker 5: make a.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Move like that.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Yeah, pretty much, as long as he doesn't go to
- 6:53Speaker 3: a contender in the AFC, I don't care either cover
- 6:56Speaker 3: the Patriots or go to Carolina.
- 6:57Speaker 5: That's interesting because now I know you listen to the
- 7:00Speaker 5: show's tease when you're not a part of them. Evan
- 7:04Speaker 5: I think is probably the strongest of our group in
- 7:07Speaker 5: the pro column for Hopkins, but we all want them,
- 7:11Speaker 5: Fred Mike myself, we all want them. I think Evan's
- 7:15Speaker 5: probably the strongest, but you seem a little bit more.
- 7:16Speaker 7: No.
- 7:17Speaker 3: I mean I want him almost for a point that
- 7:19Speaker 3: I'd rather him here than go anywhere else. But I
- 7:21Speaker 3: mean he's a top ten receiver in league, and when
- 7:23Speaker 3: he's healthy, I mean top five, So I think he
- 7:26Speaker 3: brings something we don't have and changes the complete offense.
- 7:30Speaker 4: So yeah, I mean I look at it from two.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I'm gonna be fully transparent. I have two reasons to
- 7:35Speaker 4: want this. One is because of what he potentially could
- 7:39Speaker 4: bring to the football team and make an impact there,
- 7:42Speaker 4: but quite frankly, it's also just more interesting to have
- 7:45Speaker 4: him here for us, and it would be more It
- 7:47Speaker 4: would be more exciting to cover a team that has
- 7:49Speaker 4: a stratice. So I will, you know, when Evan comes
- 7:52Speaker 4: back to practice, actually we will have Wednesdays, like you know,
- 7:56Speaker 4: he won't practice those veteran wednesdays. But no, it it
- 8:00Speaker 4: makes the team more exciting. It creates more buzz around
- 8:04Speaker 4: the team. And although I don't think Bill Belichick gives
- 8:07Speaker 4: two f's about that, I do think that the overall
- 8:12Speaker 4: buzz and confidence that you get from making a move
- 8:15Speaker 4: like that coming into trading camp, people might have a
- 8:18Speaker 4: little bit more pep in their step around the building
- 8:19Speaker 4: if all of a sudden it feels like, all right,
- 8:22Speaker 4: we got something really brewing here. Now we have guys
- 8:25Speaker 4: that we already like in that receiver room and the
- 8:27Speaker 4: tight ends and Remandre, and now all of a sudden
- 8:30Speaker 4: you add Hopkins to that mix as well. In Bill
- 8:32Speaker 4: O'Brien's back, there's a little bit more confidence. And I
- 8:36Speaker 4: think that that's something that his team really lacked last
- 8:39Speaker 4: year in that locker room was belief, continuity, just understanding
- 8:45Speaker 4: what they're doing and belief in what they're doing. And
- 8:48Speaker 4: I think that that can go a long way, when
- 8:49Speaker 4: you start to add some of these bigger names and
- 8:52Speaker 4: star power to the room.
- 8:53Speaker 3: What also gives the opposing defense as somebody actually game
- 8:56Speaker 3: planed floor.
- 8:57Speaker 5: No question, and right now it's Ramadre Stevenson.
- 9:00Speaker 3: That's you know.
- 9:01Speaker 5: And to a lesser extent, I would say, based on
- 9:04Speaker 5: what we saw this spring, you're probably gonna be more
- 9:07Speaker 5: prepared for the two tight end looks than maybe you
- 9:09Speaker 5: have in the recent past with Kasiki and Hunter Henry.
- 9:13Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean, DeAndre Hopkins is a guy that
- 9:15Speaker 5: the other teams are gonna have to say, Okay, where's
- 9:17Speaker 5: our number one corner. We're gonna have to make sure
- 9:20Speaker 5: that we find ways to make sure that we're matching
- 9:22Speaker 5: up our best personnel on Hopkins because he would clearly
- 9:25Speaker 5: be the number one on.
- 9:27Speaker 3: He opens it up for the rest of the team,
- 9:28Speaker 3: which I feel we haven't had that in so long.
- 9:30Speaker 4: So yeah, that's why I've been higher on it more
- 9:33Speaker 4: than anything. Is more the trickle down effect than necessarily
- 9:37Speaker 4: that Hopkins is going to come in and be a
- 9:39Speaker 4: fifteen hundred yard receiver like he was in his prime.
- 9:41Speaker 4: It just slots everybody into the right order in the
- 9:46Speaker 4: pecking order, and then you also have guys like Juju
- 9:48Speaker 4: and guys like the t tight ends that want to
- 9:51Speaker 4: win in the middle of the field, and in order
- 9:53Speaker 4: to win in the middle of the field, you got
- 9:54Speaker 4: to give him something to respect on the outside. Now,
- 9:57Speaker 4: I think a lot of us are hoping that that
- 9:58Speaker 4: might be Taekwon Thorton, but Hopkins, I think just brings
- 10:02Speaker 4: a little bit more a cachet, certainly a little bit
- 10:04Speaker 4: more experience and real production in the league than Thornton.
- 10:09Speaker 4: And I still think that they work well together because
- 10:12Speaker 4: I think Thorton is kind of like that Will Fuller
- 10:15Speaker 4: take the top off the defense type, and Hopkins is
- 10:17Speaker 4: still more of that possession receiver. So I love all
- 10:21Speaker 4: the combinations that you can come up with those two.
- 10:23Speaker 4: And you mentioned the two tight ends, which I think
- 10:26Speaker 4: is fascinating that since twenty one and twenty one and
- 10:30Speaker 4: twenty two the Patriots were twenty fifth in the league
- 10:33Speaker 4: and two tight end usage despite paying Johnny Smith and
- 10:37Speaker 4: Hunter Henry what they are paying them, I still need
- 10:40Speaker 4: to see a fully healthy wide receiver room and them
- 10:45Speaker 4: using twelve personnel as much as they did in the spring,
- 10:48Speaker 4: because they did it in the spring. But I think
- 10:50Speaker 4: a lot of that was because the veteran receivers were.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Could be in and out, could be Yeah, it's funny
- 10:56Speaker 5: that you it just when you were talking about despite
- 10:58Speaker 5: what they paid and Smith, there was a conversation on
- 11:03Speaker 5: EI this morning with Greg Hill and Jermaine Wiggins and
- 11:06Speaker 5: they were going back and forth on you know, Greg
- 11:08Speaker 5: Hill really wants Hopkins, you know, kind of like we do.
- 11:11Speaker 5: And he doesn't really understand, like, if it's just money,
- 11:13Speaker 5: why wouldn't you just pay the money? Blah blah blah
- 11:15Speaker 5: blah blah. And you know, Wiggy says that you know,
- 11:19Speaker 5: he'll do it if Robert lets him do it, and
- 11:22Speaker 5: you know, they're sort of going back and forth, and
- 11:24Speaker 5: Greg Hill's point is like, but Bill, it's it's sort
- 11:27Speaker 5: of against Bill what he wants to do. He doesn't
- 11:29Speaker 5: want to overpay and blah blah blah. And this is
- 11:31Speaker 5: what's frustrating because he won't do. He goes, what have
- 11:33Speaker 5: you ever seen? He actually said this, what have you
- 11:36Speaker 5: ever seen Bill overpaid for a free agent? And not
- 11:38Speaker 5: thinking of myself, I have like seven off the top
- 11:41Speaker 5: of my kid from two years ago, Like how did
- 11:44Speaker 5: you not say that?
- 11:44Speaker 3: Like that?
- 11:45Speaker 5: John ou Smith was overpaid in free agency, Like yeah, Nelson, I.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Find it interesting that people think that they've never done
- 11:53Speaker 4: that before, because you get that a lot that Oh no,
- 11:56Speaker 4: they don't. They don't spend like that, they don't hand
- 11:58Speaker 4: out that. I mean, did not do that with Tefan Gilmore.
- 12:02Speaker 5: Some of them they're right right, I mean they went
- 12:04Speaker 5: out and they were aggressive with Gilmore and they were right.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Right, or you know, I know it kind of Judon's.
- 12:09Speaker 5: They've probably been proven right.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Judon was a good one, Like I know, it is
- 12:13Speaker 4: similar in some ways to this Hopkins situation Drell Revas,
- 12:16Speaker 4: Like they went out and paid at least for one
- 12:19Speaker 4: year they paid Durel Revisa. Obviously we remember some of
- 12:22Speaker 4: the ones where they missed a little bit, like a
- 12:24Speaker 4: Dahlias Thomas. You know, like, yeah, but they've done it before.
- 12:27Speaker 5: But it's a perfect example of what I what I
- 12:29Speaker 5: always talk about, like I don't care necessarily. I mean
- 12:34Speaker 5: this on limit, I'm not telling you one hundred percent.
- 12:36Speaker 5: I don't care what they pay if the guy can
- 12:38Speaker 5: play right, and you know, like Matthew Judon is a
- 12:41Speaker 5: perfect example. I think they overpaid for Matthew Judon. I'd
- 12:43Speaker 5: probably still think that. I don't care. He's been a
- 12:47Speaker 5: very productive player for you. So if they gave him,
- 12:50Speaker 5: you know, and maybe it's you know, maybe they paid
- 12:53Speaker 5: just perfect for him, you know, based on what he's produced.
- 12:56Speaker 5: But I don't think anybody would go back and look
- 12:59Speaker 5: and say, just that Gilmour contract that really hurt him. Yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 5: Like you know, he was a terrific number one corner
- 13:06Speaker 5: for you who helped you win it, you know, get
- 13:09Speaker 5: to one and one and then win another like.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Defensive Player of the Year too.
- 13:14Speaker 5: I just don't know why you would sit there and
- 13:17Speaker 5: you know, Fred about how much money these guys are costing. Yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 5: as long as they can play. Now, you know the
- 13:23Speaker 5: Jono Smith that that that hurts right because you paid
- 13:26Speaker 5: him money and he didn't produce. That's that's the problem.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Yeah. I think the interesting thing with Hopkins is the timing.
- 13:33Speaker 4: If this if Hopkins had become a free agent in
- 13:36Speaker 4: March and there's a ton of cap space around the
- 13:39Speaker 4: league and it's a bidding war for him and there's five, six, seven,
- 13:43Speaker 4: eight teams interested in his services, then I would say
- 13:45Speaker 4: the Patriots were not going to win that bidding war
- 13:49Speaker 4: be in that mix. This is a really it's it's
- 13:52Speaker 4: similar with Dalvin Cook, Like you don't see players of
- 13:55Speaker 4: that caliber be available on June twenty seventh, the whole
- 13:59Speaker 4: lot and when they there is reasons for it. And
- 14:03Speaker 4: I think that that's something that this is almost now
- 14:07Speaker 4: it's almost a bargain. Like now it's they're almost getting
- 14:10Speaker 4: a deal. They're almost swindling the rest of the league
- 14:13Speaker 4: because they were able to get DeAndre Hopkins on July first,
- 14:17Speaker 4: when everybody else went in overpaid guys back in March.
- 14:20Speaker 4: So I think that that's how they view it sometimes,
- 14:23Speaker 4: is that now, all of a sudden, even if they
- 14:26Speaker 4: have to pay DeAndre Hopkins fifteen million dollars next year,
- 14:30Speaker 4: it's all it's suddenly a great deal, right because you
- 14:32Speaker 4: got them when you got them. It's post June one,
- 14:35Speaker 4: after the comp picks it. It wasn't in a huge
- 14:38Speaker 4: bidding war because a lot of the cap space has
- 14:40Speaker 4: dried up. But another interesting thing you just mentioned Judon.
- 14:44Speaker 4: You see some of that thirty third team stuff that
- 14:46Speaker 4: Belichick did with in that interview, and one of the
- 14:49Speaker 4: things they asked him about jude On, and he brought
- 14:51Speaker 4: up Judeon and he mentioned that Judon is their highest
- 14:55Speaker 4: paid player on their roster. And we talked about this
- 14:58Speaker 4: with Fred a lot about that. Is that worry you,
- 15:01Speaker 4: that hierarchy, It worries me. It worries I know everything.
- 15:04Speaker 5: Everybody's gonna make fun of me, and rightly so, because
- 15:07Speaker 5: everything worries me.
- 15:08Speaker 4: It worries me because that tells me that he's cognizant
- 15:12Speaker 4: of we're paying Judan as the highest paid player on
- 15:16Speaker 4: our roster right now because Judon is representative of that.
- 15:21Speaker 4: That was his point. He was like, he's a great
- 15:23Speaker 4: football player and he's been a great foot soldier for us,
- 15:26Speaker 4: and that that's why we made him.
- 15:29Speaker 5: He was saying that as a as compliment, Yeah, complimenting
- 15:32Speaker 5: the player, right, and kind of themselves like we see,
- 15:35Speaker 5: we went out and got this guy, We targeted this
- 15:36Speaker 5: guy and he's produced. What I worry about is that
- 15:39Speaker 5: sets the bar, right, that sets the salary structure, so
- 15:42Speaker 5: no one makes more than Juda correct and I and
- 15:44Speaker 5: I you know, I don't like doing it that way.
- 15:47Speaker 5: It's one thing if you have a Patrick Mahomes right,
- 15:50Speaker 5: Tom Brady for years here, you know.
- 15:52Speaker 4: He's only making sixteen million I think it is a year.
- 15:55Speaker 4: So it's not like it's one of these huge twenty
- 15:58Speaker 4: five million dollar contracts. But if you're going to pay
- 16:01Speaker 4: Judon sixteen, and he's the representation of if we're going
- 16:05Speaker 4: to have a big money player, this is what we
- 16:07Speaker 4: want the guy to do. He's he's great, he's great
- 16:10Speaker 4: in the locker room, he great with us. He's obviously
- 16:13Speaker 4: performs out on the field. He stays healthy and plays,
- 16:18Speaker 4: you know, the entire season. Those types of things are
- 16:22Speaker 4: some of the concerns that people have about DeAndre Hopkins.
- 16:25Speaker 4: So they're not going to make DeAndre Hopkins a higher
- 16:28Speaker 4: paid player than Matthew Judon. That's not happening. And that's
- 16:31Speaker 4: because that's the structure that they've set up. So you know,
- 16:34Speaker 4: I don't know if they'll make anybody a higher paid play.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Right, and that that's the part that worries me. But
- 16:38Speaker 5: you know, I'm not going to, as my buddy Foger
- 16:40Speaker 5: likes to say, I'm not going to kill them for
- 16:42Speaker 5: something they haven't done yet. Uh So I'll wait. But
- 16:44Speaker 5: Evan brought up in the middle of that, Dalvin Cook,
- 16:48Speaker 5: and I also wanted to get to him, Tisse. You know,
- 16:52Speaker 5: he's another free agent, obviously a very productive running back
- 16:55Speaker 5: had some some injury history, much like all running backs.
- 16:59Speaker 5: What are your thoughts on.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I'm so split. I low key hate him because he
- 17:02Speaker 3: cost me a fantasy season, but.
- 17:03Speaker 5: That's a story as long as there's a good reason.
- 17:06Speaker 3: No, honestly with with Dalvin Cook, I think running backs
- 17:09Speaker 3: are complimentary, so almost more than DeAndre Hopkins. Like I
- 17:12Speaker 3: don't want Dalvin Cook to go with the Dolphins, Like
- 17:14Speaker 3: that completely switches up the game. I like Ramandre I
- 17:17Speaker 3: think he could be in every down back and Dalvin
- 17:19Speaker 3: Cook that would be a great one two punch. But
- 17:21Speaker 3: it's almost like just get him to keep him out
- 17:23Speaker 3: of the division for the conference.
- 17:25Speaker 5: I think that's a dangerous game to play when you're
- 17:28Speaker 5: when you're starting to sign players so other teams don't
- 17:31Speaker 5: sign them. I mean, I understand what people you know
- 17:35Speaker 5: are thinking in Miami, but I think that's an offense
- 17:39Speaker 5: that the running back. I don't think they need DALVINU.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Is he twenty seven? Twenty seven? It's just I mean.
- 17:46Speaker 4: He's coming off an injury. There's definitely some you got
- 17:50Speaker 4: a couple more years, yeah, you know, in another year
- 17:53Speaker 4: or two of big production, But.
- 17:55Speaker 3: So are you gonna sign into a big two year
- 17:56Speaker 3: contract a one year deal like it's it's so difficult
- 17:59Speaker 3: with running because you can get.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Over the market. So there's definitely some smoke there with
- 18:03Speaker 4: the Patriots. I think his agent right now is trying
- 18:06Speaker 4: to put every team he possibly can put out there
- 18:09Speaker 4: to kind of drum up a market. But I do
- 18:12Speaker 4: think the Patriots have at least inquired on Dalvin Cook,
- 18:16Speaker 4: and I think the biggest reason why is behind Remandre Time.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Montgomery hasn't had over two hundred scrimmage yards since twenty eighteen.
- 18:24Speaker 5: No, I hate he's not necessarily a reliable player. Even
- 18:28Speaker 5: though we right again much like he keeps seeing it online,
- 18:31Speaker 5: we see why people like him.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's been five years impressive to one since
- 18:36Speaker 4: he's been like an actual NFL.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Him in twenty sixteen was the next level.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Yeah, but he's been five years since Time Montgomery's been
- 18:43Speaker 4: a piece in an NFL offense. You have no idea
- 18:47Speaker 4: really what Kevin Harrison and Pierre Strong are at this level. Now.
- 18:52Speaker 4: I'm a guy that I think running backs don't matter.
- 18:55Speaker 4: I think they're interchangeable. For the most part. I think
- 18:57Speaker 4: that you can cycle through the Pierre Strong pass, the
- 19:01Speaker 4: torch from Damien Harris to Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris
- 19:03Speaker 4: to the next group. But with that being said, I
- 19:07Speaker 4: don't think that they necessarily view it that way. I
- 19:10Speaker 4: think that they've always prioritized some depth there and some
- 19:13Speaker 4: experience there.
- 19:14Speaker 3: They do.
- 19:14Speaker 4: And again it's like with DeAndre Hopkins, Dalvin Cook is
- 19:19Speaker 4: available on June twenty seventh, and that's a player that
- 19:23Speaker 4: maybe does move the needle for you and maybe does
- 19:25Speaker 4: give you a real one two punch with Ramandre where
- 19:28Speaker 4: they can kind of trade off and then both of
- 19:30Speaker 4: those guys stay healthy towards the end of the year.
- 19:33Speaker 4: I'm reluctant with it because I don't want to overpay
- 19:35Speaker 4: a running back, especially one that's had a ton of
- 19:38Speaker 4: carries over the last couple of years, and that he
- 19:42Speaker 4: is redundant to Remandre, Like I don't think you can
- 19:44Speaker 4: play them together. Like I don't think you're gonna be
- 19:46Speaker 4: running two running backs.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Hopkins on Cook.
- 19:50Speaker 3: There are other running backs out there too, Like we
- 19:52Speaker 3: signed James Robinson, obviously we let him go, but like
- 19:55Speaker 3: I would have rather taken Jack McKinnon like he's out there.
- 19:58Speaker 4: I think so. I think he actually him back to
- 20:00Speaker 4: the Chiefs.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Now did he Yeah, I thought I saw him.
- 20:02Speaker 5: Still listen, if you're gonna come in and step in
- 20:04Speaker 5: as a sub, you gotta know, you gotta know you could.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Be wrong about that. He still So the big names
- 20:10Speaker 4: are obviously Dalvin Uh, Leonard Fournette, and Zeke Elliott.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I know. Fournette is one that I've always had
- 20:17Speaker 5: in the back of my mind because the Patriots had
- 20:18Speaker 5: that little sort of intalience with him. Yeah, was it last.
- 20:22Speaker 4: Year a couple when he went when he signed with
- 20:24Speaker 4: Tampa Ago. Yeah, if if Brady isn't in Tampa, then
- 20:28Speaker 4: he's probably a Patriot and not a buck Leonard Fournette,
- 20:32Speaker 4: so they they've shown some interests. But to me, would
- 20:36Speaker 4: you rather pay Dalvin Cook?
- 20:38Speaker 3: You got me? Also, he chief, you got me?
- 20:41Speaker 5: I like, I like Cook better than Fournette.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Okay, but would you rather pay Cook six to eight
- 20:46Speaker 4: million for next year or for Nette two?
- 20:49Speaker 3: It's Fournette and Shape.
- 20:51Speaker 5: I'm gonna probably go Cook, just because I think he's
- 20:53Speaker 5: that much better of a player. But I understand your
- 20:56Speaker 5: point totally. Like, and I always come off as the
- 20:59Speaker 5: look don't hear about the cup guy?
- 21:01Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean, you do have to care about
- 21:03Speaker 4: it like if you have a chance to get you know,
- 21:07Speaker 4: ninety percent of the production for you know, thirty percent
- 21:10Speaker 4: of the cost.
- 21:11Speaker 5: And I mean those kinds of things have to come
- 21:13Speaker 5: into play.
- 21:14Speaker 4: I just worry about Cook is a is a volume
- 21:18Speaker 4: back and to get the most out of somebody like
- 21:21Speaker 4: Dalvin Cook, he needs to be carrying the ball fifteen
- 21:24Speaker 4: to twenty times a game. And how many times are
- 21:26Speaker 4: you gonna run it between his only one?
- 21:27Speaker 5: Why I'm not overly interested in Cook because I do
- 21:30Speaker 5: think he's probably a better player than Stevenson, but at
- 21:33Speaker 5: this stage maybe not. Yea, So I'm fine with Stevenson
- 21:37Speaker 5: being the every down guy and can you have two
- 21:39Speaker 5: every down guys? Like it's kind of doesn't make sense. Yeah, right.
- 21:43Speaker 5: So I like Dalvin Cook. I've always liked I love,
- 21:47Speaker 5: love loved him coming out of Florida State. I think
- 21:52Speaker 5: he's a good piece. I know that you don't want
- 21:54Speaker 5: to see him go. I think he's a good piece
- 21:55Speaker 5: for one of those teams, a Buffalo or a Miami.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Miami does scare me the same as tease, not to
- 22:02Speaker 4: the point where I'm I'm jumping at him just to
- 22:04Speaker 4: keep them away from the Dolphins, But his agent has
- 22:06Speaker 4: made the rounds the last couple of days. Yeah, and
- 22:09Speaker 4: you know, he mentioned that he played in that state
- 22:11Speaker 4: and he's you know, add some memories at that stadium.
- 22:15Speaker 5: And I think they can use running backs really well
- 22:18Speaker 5: and I think that they They did it last year
- 22:20Speaker 5: with Wilson and most are But the problem with both
- 22:23Speaker 5: of those guys is they can never stay healthy. Yeah,
- 22:25Speaker 5: so you add another really good one who it's.
- 22:28Speaker 4: A great ability issues too. Yeah, it's a great scheme
- 22:31Speaker 4: fit he in Minnesota. They come from a similar tree,
- 22:36Speaker 4: you know, the North Turner West Coast offense with the
- 22:39Speaker 4: outside zone. It's not exactly one for one, but it's
- 22:42Speaker 4: pretty close.
- 22:43Speaker 5: And didn Miami also didn't they draft the kid from
- 22:46Speaker 5: Texas A and m Yes, Yeah, the speedy the speedy kid.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Yeah, run because they well they that whole system. They
- 22:55Speaker 4: just they just want somebody that can fly, right. That's
- 22:57Speaker 4: like why most are so good in that scheme. He's health, Yes,
- 23:00Speaker 4: is because if you can run a four to three
- 23:02Speaker 4: eight and we get that cut back for you and
- 23:04Speaker 4: you're gone. You know, that's all they're trying to create.
- 23:07Speaker 7: Now.
- 23:07Speaker 4: McDaniels talked about a little bit, you know, regrets from
- 23:10Speaker 4: last year and how it kind of fell apart on
- 23:12Speaker 4: them and late in the year, and he has said
- 23:14Speaker 4: that they've he felt like they should have ran the ball.
- 23:16Speaker 5: And run enough. Yeah, I definitely felt that. Watching the
- 23:20Speaker 5: late season game against Green Bay, the last concussion that
- 23:23Speaker 5: Tua suffered, I felt like they dominated that game and
- 23:27Speaker 5: they were on the verge of blowing green Bay out
- 23:30Speaker 5: at every left you at every turn they kept and
- 23:33Speaker 5: then somehow they just found a way to have it
- 23:36Speaker 5: be a close game at the end and they lost it.
- 23:38Speaker 5: And I thought that was part of it. I thought
- 23:39Speaker 5: the play calling was a little out of whack in
- 23:42Speaker 5: that game. But you know, so Dalvin Cook and Hopkins
- 23:46Speaker 5: are on the table and you guys are right, there's
- 23:48Speaker 5: been a lot of smoke with it. I think there's
- 23:50Speaker 5: a lot of smoke with Hopkins's agent too. I think,
- 23:53Speaker 5: you know throwing. I mean, we haven't heard anything about
- 23:56Speaker 5: Carolina until Salpa throws it out here today. So I
- 24:00Speaker 5: at the same time wonders this is just a ploy,
- 24:02Speaker 5: like is it a done deal with the Patriots? And
- 24:05Speaker 5: the Patriots said, well, you know, we'll sign you for X,
- 24:08Speaker 5: We'll give you ten, we'll give you eleven whatever, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 5: take it or leave it. And the agent's just like.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Well, let's get a little bit more, get a little bit.
- 24:16Speaker 5: More if we can get a couple more teams out there.
- 24:18Speaker 5: You know, Hey, Soal Carolina, they're a lurking, you know.
- 24:22Speaker 5: I do wonder if this is part of that.
- 24:24Speaker 4: I mean, he just signed this agent, like he just
- 24:26Speaker 4: started working with this agent. I think it's a clutch
- 24:29Speaker 4: sports agent if I remember correctly, And they just when
- 24:34Speaker 4: he got released by Arizona. He was unrepresented, unrepresented before that,
- 24:39Speaker 4: and so he signs with an agent immediately once he
- 24:42Speaker 4: hits free agency, and now all of a sudden there's
- 24:44Speaker 4: a market for him out there, at least from the
- 24:46Speaker 4: media perspective.
- 24:47Speaker 3: So if this happens all these veteran free agents, you
- 24:50Speaker 3: think it happens beginning to training camp or more end
- 24:52Speaker 3: of training camp, like they don't want to do they
- 24:54Speaker 3: just don't want to do camp.
- 24:55Speaker 5: I think probably earlier then later. I don't know about
- 24:58Speaker 5: right at the start, but I would think you'd want
- 25:01Speaker 5: to at least get some yeah, you know, some time
- 25:04Speaker 5: in the preseason that you're here, especially those joint practices.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 4: I think with Hopkins, because of his familiarity with Bill O'Brien.
- 25:10Speaker 4: He doesn't necessarily need to be here right away, but
- 25:14Speaker 4: I think that they would want him here by by
- 25:16Speaker 4: Green Bay, by those joint practice.
- 25:18Speaker 5: Like if he would like to miss most, if not all,
- 25:20Speaker 5: of training camp. I mean, I don't know about you.
- 25:23Speaker 5: With receivers, all I think of his hamstring poll.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Yeah, or just timing, you know in the quarterback too,
- 25:29Speaker 4: Like he's not the receiver. That's necessarily He's not Tyrek Hill.
- 25:33Speaker 4: He's not going to create five yards of separation and
- 25:35Speaker 4: run behind the defense, so you know, on back shoulders,
- 25:38Speaker 4: on in cuts, like you need to have that timing
- 25:40Speaker 4: down with Mac Jones. And even though he probably knows
- 25:42Speaker 4: the playbook already because of playing for O'Brien and Houston,
- 25:46Speaker 4: he still needs to get that relationship with the quarterback.
- 25:49Speaker 4: I think as long as he's ready to practice by
- 25:53Speaker 4: the time they go to joint practices in Green Bay,
- 25:56Speaker 4: it's it's fine. But I think those very.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Give me one of those sets at least of joint practice.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that first week of training camp, you
- 26:04Speaker 4: know that you have the three non padded or light
- 26:06Speaker 4: padded days and then no, he's not gonna be I
- 26:09Speaker 4: don't think he I don't think that he wants those
- 26:13Speaker 4: like I don't I don't think he really is is
- 26:15Speaker 4: all hell bent on being here for those.
- 26:17Speaker 5: All right, Matt, let's let's look at the phone lines
- 26:20Speaker 5: and give Evan a little time to sort of check out.
- 26:23Speaker 5: Can we check out emails and maybe you can do
- 26:25Speaker 5: the fread and pretend that you're listening but not really
- 26:27Speaker 5: be listening. Fred's got a gift for that. So uh,
- 26:31Speaker 5: let's uh, let's lead off with our calls here. Matt
- 26:35Speaker 5: go to the phone lines with Todd in North Carolina.
- 26:39Speaker 8: So, you know, guys, I asked the other week about
- 26:41Speaker 8: the running back and you guys got to poot me.
- 26:43Speaker 8: And now I hear on Catch twenty two a little
- 26:45Speaker 8: about the running back and everything else.
- 26:46Speaker 9: And I'm like, these guys, they dismissed my question, and
- 26:49Speaker 9: now they're spending tons of times.
- 26:51Speaker 5: Are you dismissing questions?
- 26:52Speaker 4: I don't know, must have been in a bad mood.
- 26:54Speaker 7: Evn't got me back on the PU thing with this.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Just wait, even like you know mudgeons like Paul, like.
- 27:01Speaker 10: See, that's what got me back on there.
- 27:03Speaker 11: Which there's a little bit of it.
- 27:07Speaker 5: That could happen now to that.
- 27:10Speaker 4: Bye, guys, we're playing audio.
- 27:13Speaker 5: Now, what what is it?
- 27:14Speaker 3: Was?
- 27:14Speaker 5: This like this? This whole society for it, This whole
- 27:19Speaker 5: society has turned into the like just like you said
- 27:23Speaker 5: something I don't agree with, and I'm going to make
- 27:25Speaker 5: fun of you. And then what I'm going to do
- 27:28Speaker 5: most is not just make fun of you. I'm going
- 27:31Speaker 5: to show that you were making fun of someone else
- 27:35Speaker 5: and I'm going to try to get you in trouble.
- 27:36Speaker 4: All I said was that even a curmudgeon like Paul
- 27:40Speaker 4: wants them to sign DeAndre Hopkins. That's and you'r You
- 27:44Speaker 4: would fully admit I wantre Hopkins, that you want Andre Hopkins,
- 27:48Speaker 4: and you also fully admit that usually you're kind of negative.
- 27:51Speaker 5: So see, I think negative is a strong word, and
- 27:54Speaker 5: I think curmudgeon is a really strong word. But I
- 27:57Speaker 5: play a role. But what I do try to do
- 28:01Speaker 5: is rather than like, I'm not and this is what
- 28:05Speaker 5: you know And this will come back and haunt me. Now,
- 28:07Speaker 5: the next guy who calls in will have the audio
- 28:09Speaker 5: clip of me sort of painting all of the writers
- 28:13Speaker 5: with a broad brush. I do not necessarily buy conventional wisdom.
- 28:18Speaker 5: So if that makes me like a contrarian. I don't
- 28:20Speaker 5: mean to be a contrarian.
- 28:21Speaker 4: That's that's probably a better word than than I don't.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Like when things are just generally universally accepted, like you know,
- 28:33Speaker 5: you know, you don't want to overpay for him, Like
- 28:35Speaker 5: what is overpaying? Like I always I always push back
- 28:37Speaker 5: with when a guy makes whatever, whatever someone gave him,
- 28:41Speaker 5: that's what that's what he was worth, that's what he got.
- 28:44Speaker 5: You know, your value is what someone's willing to give you,
- 28:48Speaker 5: and if you don't end up playing to that level,
- 28:51Speaker 5: then that's a problem.
- 28:53Speaker 4: I Johnny Smith, not to pick on Johnny Smith.
- 28:55Speaker 5: Johnson didn't play to the level of what he got paid.
- 28:58Speaker 4: And it's a perfect example because of the length of
- 29:00Speaker 4: the contract. If you give DeAndre Hopkins one year, fifteen
- 29:06Speaker 4: million dollar deal and it doesn't work out, the only
- 29:09Speaker 4: thing that it's kind of impacting cap wise is twenty
- 29:12Speaker 4: twenty three Smith that when you give three four year
- 29:16Speaker 4: deals with a lot of guaranteed money, now he's carrying
- 29:18Speaker 4: a dead cap.
- 29:19Speaker 5: So I'm good though. This is good because that's a
- 29:21Speaker 5: good example. So what's going to happen when DeAndre Hopkins signs? Well,
- 29:27Speaker 5: how do you think it's going to be universally taking.
- 29:29Speaker 5: I'm mod Patriots media and I want him, so I'm
- 29:32Speaker 5: not trying to be a fraud here. I love it,
- 29:33Speaker 5: but I will look at it from all sides. And
- 29:37Speaker 5: this is why I would push back with because I know,
- 29:39Speaker 5: like I play a role here. Okay, this is why
- 29:42Speaker 5: I push back on the negative connotation, because because I
- 29:45Speaker 5: don't mean it to be. What I do is I'll
- 29:47Speaker 5: look at it and say this is what I wanted.
- 29:49Speaker 5: I'm not always right. Yeah, sometimes I'm wrong with things
- 29:52Speaker 5: that I want to happen and when they do them right.
- 29:55Speaker 5: So let's just say, for arguments, say he comes in
- 29:58Speaker 5: here and everybody's like this is great, they got to
- 30:00Speaker 5: number one receiver. Well, what if it really pisses off
- 30:03Speaker 5: Devontae Parker and he's gone, or annoys Kendrick Bourne and
- 30:07Speaker 5: you don't get anything out of them? What if even
- 30:10Speaker 5: worse to me than those two examples, somehow it stunts
- 30:14Speaker 5: the growth of Taekwon Thornton. Like these things can happen.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Nobody will look at those things. And when I say nobody,
- 30:22Speaker 5: I don't mean literally zero percent, but very few will
- 30:26Speaker 5: analyze that move in how it would affect everybody else
- 30:30Speaker 5: without saying, well, who cares? Would they think? You know, well,
- 30:33Speaker 5: I'm trying to create a good wide receiver cor not
- 30:36Speaker 5: just have one guy like I'm trying to see what
- 30:39Speaker 5: how can I maximize? Hopefully it's exactly the way Evan describes.
- 30:44Speaker 5: You have a guy who creates attention from the defensive
- 30:48Speaker 5: coordinator and it opens up maybe Will Fuller aka Tae
- 30:52Speaker 5: Kwon Thornton to get down the field and all of
- 30:54Speaker 5: a sudden he's averaging nineteen yards of catch on fifty
- 30:58Speaker 5: sixty catches. You know, like Will Fuller.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Right, I mean if DeAndre would be great, even if
- 31:05Speaker 4: he just gives the illusion that he's still DeAndre Hopkins.
- 31:08Speaker 4: You know, you watch a lot of that that Texans tape,
- 31:11Speaker 4: which you know I've nerded out on, and you see,
- 31:15Speaker 4: you know, the safety is collapsing down on Hopkins going
- 31:19Speaker 4: over the middle, and now Fuller has you know, a
- 31:21Speaker 4: deep post and it's just a foot race and it's
- 31:24Speaker 4: one on one down the field and he wins. You know,
- 31:26Speaker 4: you see things like that happen, and how Bill O'Brien
- 31:29Speaker 4: does do a good job of creating conflict in the
- 31:32Speaker 4: deep part of the field. Where now the safety has
- 31:35Speaker 4: to make a choice. Am I going to close off
- 31:37Speaker 4: DeAndre Hopkins on the incut or am I going to
- 31:39Speaker 4: stay on the post right? And if whichever one he picks,
- 31:42Speaker 4: the quarterback just throws the other ball and and that's that's.
- 31:46Speaker 5: And that's how I look at it, That's how I
- 31:48Speaker 5: would would hope that when you have that guy that
- 31:52Speaker 5: knocks everybody down a peg. We talk about it with
- 31:54Speaker 5: Christian Gonzalez hopefully being able to do that with the cornerbacks.
- 31:58Speaker 5: That's ideal, but there's there's another side that could happen,
- 32:01Speaker 5: and maybe he lost a step, maybe he's not that good,
- 32:04Speaker 5: Maybe he ruffles the feathers of the veterans that are back.
- 32:06Speaker 5: We saw Parker not necessarily sound all that thrilled because
- 32:10Speaker 5: he's probably thinking about it in terms of himself. And
- 32:13Speaker 5: if he stays in the first you know, he could go.
- 32:16Speaker 5: But if he stays, maybe his role is diminished and
- 32:19Speaker 5: that's not good for him. So there's a lot of
- 32:21Speaker 5: different ways to look at this stuff. I don't think
- 32:24Speaker 5: a lot of people do that. I think they just
- 32:26Speaker 5: look at the shiny new object and get excited. I
- 32:29Speaker 5: do too, Yeah, and I want Hopkins. Bottom line is
- 32:32Speaker 5: I weigh the pros and cons, and I think the
- 32:34Speaker 5: pros outweighed the cons. And I think that's what Bill
- 32:37Speaker 5: tries to do.
- 32:38Speaker 4: And to Todd's point about running backs, I hate paying
- 32:42Speaker 4: running backs.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't want Cooks, so I'm not paying.
- 32:46Speaker 4: I love Ramandre Stevenson. He's one of my favorite players
- 32:49Speaker 4: on the team currently. When it's hit his turn to
- 32:52Speaker 4: get paid in a couple of years, I'm.
- 32:54Speaker 5: News for people he will go unless for whatever reason
- 32:59Speaker 5: he sides, yeah, I'm gonna you know, I'll be willing
- 33:03Speaker 5: to sign an extension after this season because he's not
- 33:05Speaker 5: eligible now, so after this season he could sign an
- 33:07Speaker 5: extension and he says, oh, yeah, give me three years
- 33:10Speaker 5: and nine million. Oh maybe they'll do that.
- 33:13Speaker 4: It's it's absolutely the running back market right now. And
- 33:16Speaker 4: I know that. You know, ESPN's did a lot, like
- 33:18Speaker 4: Mina Kimes has talked a lot about this too. The
- 33:21Speaker 4: running back market right now is it's almost gotten to
- 33:26Speaker 4: the point where it's like kind of a problem that
- 33:28Speaker 4: they that they can't get paid. Like and I when
- 33:30Speaker 4: I say can't get paid, I don't mean like the
- 33:32Speaker 4: forty million dollar contracts. I just don't mean anything.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Look like that's a unicorn right there. Yeah, and he's
- 33:38Speaker 3: not gonna get paid.
- 33:38Speaker 5: But he will see. But the thing about like I do,
- 33:41Speaker 5: and I know what Evan's talking about, and I know
- 33:42Speaker 5: what you're talking about to teach you have Pollard, Jacobs
- 33:46Speaker 5: and Saquon are all franchised, if I'm not mistaken, right.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Right, because the franchise attack is now is a huge bargain.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Right, it is a bargain for what those guys are.
- 33:54Speaker 5: But at least you know they're employed and they make
- 33:58Speaker 5: is it like ten million? Yeah, I mean it's not
- 34:00Speaker 5: no jump h it's not right. But let's go to
- 34:04Speaker 5: the Dalvin Cook is unemployed, Leonard Fournette is unemployed. Zeke
- 34:09Speaker 5: is unemployed. Now, you know. I you know, at some
- 34:13Speaker 5: point in career the in comes kareem hunt, you know,
- 34:17Speaker 5: like Austin Eckler was upset, you know, with his contract
- 34:22Speaker 5: and like sort of threatened to hold out. They gave
- 34:25Speaker 5: him like a few shekels and he was like, oh great,
- 34:28Speaker 5: things Like they gave him some incentives that weren't even
- 34:31Speaker 5: worth like two million or something, and he's happy about it.
- 34:34Speaker 5: I I do kind of feel for the players I
- 34:37Speaker 5: know Melvin Gordon had some comments about it.
- 34:39Speaker 3: This week, the worst position to play in the league. Yeah,
- 34:42Speaker 3: training your kid to be a punter a kicker, And he's.
- 34:45Speaker 5: Right, But I'm just talking about like there there's still
- 34:50Speaker 5: important players. As much as I diminished them, there's still
- 34:53Speaker 5: they still have the ball in the hands a lot. Yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 5: but you can't get paid and it's just.
- 35:00Speaker 4: A term jetty d. Yeah. And so the one position
- 35:04Speaker 4: where the franchise tag has actually gone down is running back.
- 35:08Speaker 4: So every other position the franchise tag every single year
- 35:11Speaker 4: increases across the board, even kickers, right like it increases
- 35:15Speaker 4: across the board. Running backs is going the opposite directions
- 35:18Speaker 4: going down, and they just can't. Nobody is getting the
- 35:24Speaker 4: guarantees into multiple seasons. So the franchise tag at one
- 35:28Speaker 4: for ten is a good deal for teams because they're
- 35:31Speaker 4: not giving out twenty twenty five million dollars guaranteed in
- 35:34Speaker 4: the first two years. The one really good conversation I
- 35:38Speaker 4: heard about this was how this might actually trickle down
- 35:41Speaker 4: all the way to the college game because in college football,
- 35:44Speaker 4: running backs are still valuable. Running Backs still really matter
- 35:47Speaker 4: in the college game. So with nil they might actually
- 35:52Speaker 4: make more money signing a lucrative nil deal if you're
- 35:57Speaker 4: like a real star running back. I mean nobody's read bus,
- 36:00Speaker 4: but like think about like a Reggie Bush.
- 36:02Speaker 5: But that's interesting. If you could get some of these
- 36:04Speaker 5: running backs coming out of college and they can get
- 36:07Speaker 5: you know, a year's salary before they even get there, yeah,
- 36:10Speaker 5: or two right, then you know, all of a sudden,
- 36:13Speaker 5: it's a six year career instead of a four year
- 36:15Speaker 5: career before you.
- 36:16Speaker 4: It's getting to the point where if you are a
- 36:21Speaker 4: Reggie Bush, certainly, but even like a guy like Leondard Fournette,
- 36:25Speaker 4: right who had that really big playoff game against Michigan
- 36:28Speaker 4: or Bowl game against Michigan, and he's on the everybody's
- 36:31Speaker 4: radar and then he comes back to LSU for his
- 36:33Speaker 4: junior season before going to the league. You can cash out,
- 36:37Speaker 4: maybe even more so at that point of your career,
- 36:41Speaker 4: because at that point you are valuable to Georgia, you
- 36:45Speaker 4: are valuable to LSU. It's just in the NFL game,
- 36:49Speaker 4: there's too many running backs that can play. There's too
- 36:51Speaker 4: many guys that are good enough just to get the
- 36:53Speaker 4: production out of them, and there's not enough guys that are.
- 36:56Speaker 5: Really, really I'll be watching Robinson he gives, you know,
- 36:59Speaker 5: this year's class two to see if.
- 37:01Speaker 4: They're Bijon's a really good one.
- 37:03Speaker 5: Yeah, if they're more like you know, I'm not talking
- 37:06Speaker 5: about stylistically, but if they're more like McCaffrey and Barkley
- 37:11Speaker 5: and Jacob's and less like you know, like Travis etn
- 37:15Speaker 5: has been okay. I mean, you got hurt the first year,
- 37:17Speaker 5: he was okay last year. You know, I don't know
- 37:20Speaker 5: if people would say I would sign up and do
- 37:22Speaker 5: that again as a first round picker. So I'm watching
- 37:24Speaker 5: those guys and see which way they trend.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Also, a player like Gibbs, like you can put him
- 37:28Speaker 3: in the slot, yeah, like, oh yeah, he's so versatile
- 37:30Speaker 3: that like, he's a player that's probably gonna get another contract.
- 37:33Speaker 4: But I could see some I'm with you a hundred percent.
- 37:35Speaker 4: That's why I said Bijeon's an interesting one, because that's
- 37:38Speaker 4: a true work course. Bell cow running back, right, he's
- 37:42Speaker 4: not he's got receiving the mobility, but he's two hundred
- 37:45Speaker 4: and twenty five pounds and he's definitely more geared towards
- 37:49Speaker 4: the old school. Are going to hand it to him
- 37:50Speaker 4: three hundred times so Seattle Kenneth Walker. Yeah, you know
- 37:54Speaker 4: million carries in college. Yeah, really good.
- 37:57Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, and he had a really good rookie year,
- 38:00Speaker 5: what like after four years, right.
- 38:01Speaker 3: You know they just rack I think they did.
- 38:05Speaker 5: Yeah, the Seahawks.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Yeah, i'mprec sure.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean that's good. That's good business. Like the
- 38:10Speaker 5: Patriots do it. Theriot come the Patriots had, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 5: the two last year. That's why I am not. That's
- 38:15Speaker 5: another reason why I'm not overly hot on the trail
- 38:19Speaker 5: of Dalvin Cook, as much as I like him as
- 38:21Speaker 5: a player, because I feel like you invested in that
- 38:24Speaker 5: with a couple of picks, and I think you should
- 38:27Speaker 5: should see it out. I think we saw flashes for
- 38:30Speaker 5: both of them, very small ones. Yeah, but you know
- 38:34Speaker 5: strong in Arizona and Harris was.
- 38:37Speaker 4: It Arizona as well, So that that double back to
- 38:41Speaker 4: back in Arizona and the Raiders or Mandre and Damien.
- 38:44Speaker 4: Harris missed the the well reminder got hurt really early
- 38:47Speaker 4: in the Cardinals game, okay, and then Harris was out.
- 38:52Speaker 5: For a while. Yeah, And I think that, I mean,
- 38:57Speaker 5: obviously Stevenson is going to be a number one guy,
- 39:00Speaker 5: but Kevin Harris should be able to give you four
- 39:03Speaker 5: or five carries between the tackles, and Pierre Strong should
- 39:06Speaker 5: be able to catch three or four passes in any game.
- 39:09Speaker 5: So it doesn't have to all be Stevenson. You can
- 39:12Speaker 5: have a couple of series a game where you just
- 39:14Speaker 5: tell Remandre you know what you know, middle of the
- 39:17Speaker 5: second quarter, take this series off, and we're not going
- 39:20Speaker 5: to sacrifice anything offensively. I'm not suggesting you you punt
- 39:25Speaker 5: on the on the possession, but you don't have to
- 39:27Speaker 5: have him because it's clear and he's he's admitted, he
- 39:30Speaker 5: talked about it in the spring he would down. Yeah,
- 39:34Speaker 5: and who wouldn't you know with that with that workload.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Yeah, No, I think you got it right in that
- 39:40Speaker 4: Kevin Harris should be able to be a guy that
- 39:43Speaker 4: can carry it maybe even five to ten times a game. Right,
- 39:46Speaker 4: it's just a peer between the tackles, follow the blocking
- 39:49Speaker 4: and get you know, get as much as he can,
- 39:51Speaker 4: and then Pierre Strong. I still I still believe in
- 39:54Speaker 4: Pierre Strong's speed and big playability even the limited carries
- 39:58Speaker 4: that he's got, and he's got you know, two runs
- 40:01Speaker 4: of fifteen over fifteen yards, three runs of over ten
- 40:04Speaker 4: and nine carries last year. So you see that big
- 40:06Speaker 4: play potential. We saw it, you know, the forty four
- 40:09Speaker 4: yarder against Arizona last year. It's there. And with a
- 40:13Speaker 4: better coordination and better scheming, if they can get him
- 40:17Speaker 4: into some space with the with the ball in his hands,
- 40:19Speaker 4: then you got that potential. I just wonder, I don't
- 40:24Speaker 4: think that it kind of goes back to like, you know,
- 40:27Speaker 4: when they had to bring in Steven Jackson or like
- 40:29Speaker 4: they had to use a corderial Patterson at running back
- 40:32Speaker 4: in eighteen.
- 40:33Speaker 5: They've kept him.
- 40:34Speaker 4: They've always seemed to now since that those two years.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Was it sixteen, right with Steven Jackson at fifteen or
- 40:41Speaker 4: something like that. Yeah, they they always seem to be
- 40:46Speaker 4: well stocked there now and they're not.
- 40:48Speaker 5: And they shouldn't have any any issues with that. And
- 40:51Speaker 5: the fact that just what we're talking about with this
- 40:53Speaker 5: the play to the running back in general, there are
- 40:56Speaker 5: more talented options that potentially going to be on the street. Yeah,
- 41:01Speaker 5: you know, if you could, let's say, you know, god forbid,
- 41:05Speaker 5: Stevenson goes down in week two, if one d is
- 41:07Speaker 5: still available, right, I mean, that's that's a pretty good
- 41:10Speaker 5: fallback plan.
- 41:11Speaker 4: They have five running backs, including JJ Taylor is the
- 41:14Speaker 4: one guy we haven't mentioned.
- 41:15Speaker 5: I wanted to ask you guys and Evan specifically about
- 41:19Speaker 5: Taylor because No Socks and I talked about Taylor a
- 41:22Speaker 5: little bit this morning. Yeah, do you think this any like,
- 41:26Speaker 5: do they just look at him as a practice squad
- 41:28Speaker 5: guy who's versatile and can do that body Yeah?
- 41:31Speaker 4: I think so at this point. But I still I
- 41:34Speaker 4: think he's a better between the tackles runner than he
- 41:36Speaker 4: is like a third down back.
- 41:38Speaker 5: And that's really interesting.
- 41:40Speaker 4: And so I actually think that he's opposite of what
- 41:43Speaker 4: you would think based off of his size and his
- 41:45Speaker 4: skill set necessarily, but I think that he has always
- 41:49Speaker 4: been okay running the football between the tackles and the
- 41:52Speaker 4: limited opportunities that he's gotten. But with his body type
- 41:56Speaker 4: and his size, how much of a work place.
- 42:00Speaker 5: Twelve games in three years, Yeah, so he's never really
- 42:03Speaker 5: gotten a chance. No, that tells me that he probably
- 42:07Speaker 5: doesn't factor into their point.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Right, So then just to spin it forward, if J. J.
- 42:12Speaker 4: Taylor doesn't factor in, which I think we all agree on,
- 42:15Speaker 4: they have four backs on the roster right now. All
- 42:18Speaker 4: four of them are gonna make it because they usually
- 42:21Speaker 4: carry for anyways, and you're not going to go with three,
- 42:24Speaker 4: and so then on top of the fact that there's
- 42:26Speaker 4: always the injury that's going to come at that position,
- 42:30Speaker 4: it just there's just not a whole lot behind those
- 42:33Speaker 4: two guys, you know, behind Remandre, like in terms of
- 42:35Speaker 4: experience and in terms of like recent production in the league.
- 42:38Speaker 4: In Time Montgomery's case, it just as much as I
- 42:43Speaker 4: hate them giving a contract that they probably don't need
- 42:46Speaker 4: to give to Dalvin Cook or somebody like that, it
- 42:49Speaker 4: just seems like you need at least four running backs
- 42:51Speaker 4: to make it through the season. And right now, I
- 42:53Speaker 4: don't know if you can say they definitively have four
- 42:56Speaker 4: guys you can rely on.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Well, and I know this isn't you know, the be
- 43:00Speaker 5: all end all, but even like the preseason games, so
- 43:05Speaker 5: you don't want Time Montgomery and Reminder Stevenson taking very
- 43:09Speaker 5: many carries and preseason games, you're just going to go
- 43:11Speaker 5: with Taylor Strong and Kevin Harris. Like, oh jeez, we.
- 43:17Speaker 4: Had a fire alarm at our apartment at two thirty
- 43:20Speaker 4: in this morning, so I'm just the jinx.
- 43:23Speaker 5: So if you can hear in the background, we have
- 43:26Speaker 5: a emergency warning going.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Off during those in construction Those are.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Usually followed by instructions to whether or not we have
- 43:34Speaker 5: to leave the building, so we may have to stop
- 43:37Speaker 5: this wonderful podcast, which evidently is not getting a lot
- 43:41Speaker 5: of attention because we haven't gotten many phone calls, and
- 43:45Speaker 5: we do have some emails watch it. Why don't you
- 43:48Speaker 5: read some?
- 43:48Speaker 4: Yeah, we have, we have a lot of emails. Actually,
- 43:50Speaker 4: some people want to talk about some of the non
- 43:53Speaker 4: football stuff too. Oh excellent, So uh Judy Blitz j
- 43:59Speaker 4: E W d Y Judy, Oh okay, interesting, want to
- 44:05Speaker 4: talk jerseys. I don't know if you guys have any
- 44:07Speaker 4: strong opinions on jerseys loves, but Judy does not like
- 44:12Speaker 4: the jerseys that the Patriots currently where and is real quickly,
- 44:17Speaker 4: I personally hate the current uniforms. The stripes on the
- 44:20Speaker 4: shoulders look like duct tape, and it's actually duct tape, Judy.
- 44:25Speaker 4: I learned that one day.
- 44:26Speaker 5: So this is why they don't like you.
- 44:28Speaker 4: They don't even go with the flow of the uniform
- 44:30Speaker 4: any ideas on when the news cycle of uniforms will
- 44:33Speaker 4: be ready, like one or two seasons away, or are
- 44:36Speaker 4: we in these indefinitely?
- 44:38Speaker 5: So Fred talked about this a little bit last week.
- 44:40Speaker 5: We do not know when they're up for another when
- 44:44Speaker 5: they plan to have another uniform change. I did see,
- 44:47Speaker 5: and I know tis you're looking at me, So I
- 44:49Speaker 5: know you saw it because I know you are all
- 44:51Speaker 5: over this guy. Our buddy Babs had.
- 44:57Speaker 4: A whole lot of quote unquote uniform information that he
- 45:03Speaker 4: put out on Twitter yesterday. He says, and I have
- 45:08Speaker 4: not seen this confirmed by anybody inside the organization, that
- 45:12Speaker 4: the Patriots are planning.
- 45:13Speaker 5: On wearing the red uniforms twice this year. That has
- 45:17Speaker 5: not been confirmed by anybody that I know of inside
- 45:20Speaker 5: the organization. And he talked about the possibility of changing
- 45:27Speaker 5: the combination of the traditional home uniform to wearing the
- 45:31Speaker 5: silver pants a couple of times. So I don't know
- 45:34Speaker 5: where Babs. You guys, he's on.
- 45:36Speaker 4: You know, he's on the mic.
- 45:37Speaker 5: He's a longtime Patriots fan. He is a training camp
- 45:42Speaker 5: all the time Patriots insider quote unquote. I don't know
- 45:46Speaker 5: where he gets his information, but so there would be
- 45:48Speaker 5: some different combinations. I guess to look forward to this.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Year, that's all I want, Like I imagine, actually I
- 45:55Speaker 3: don't want to ever imagine being a Jags fan, but
- 45:56Speaker 3: you know, they wake up on Sunday and they don't know,
- 45:59Speaker 3: like what the matchup's gonna be, Like, are you gonna
- 46:01Speaker 3: wear white pants teal pants? I don't know, Like I
- 46:04Speaker 3: just want some changes, you know. You wake up. I'm like, oh,
- 46:06Speaker 3: we're wearing the blues, and I think the I've gotten
- 46:08Speaker 3: used to the home jerseys like reluctantly, I'll deal with
- 46:11Speaker 3: it whatever, But it's the away jerseys. I can't stand them.
- 46:13Speaker 3: I used to. I used to like them the first game,
- 46:15Speaker 3: and now it's.
- 46:16Speaker 5: Just like I don't do you don't like the blueberries.
- 46:20Speaker 5: I kind of like the white. I kind of like
- 46:22Speaker 5: the white shirt a little better than me too.
- 46:23Speaker 3: I think the blue if you added not even silver
- 46:26Speaker 3: pants white pants with the blue would look unbelievable. But
- 46:29Speaker 3: I mean, I want the Royal Blues back. That's all
- 46:31Speaker 3: I want. Give me the nineties Royal.
- 46:33Speaker 5: Blue if I'm not mistaken. Babs throw that out there too,
- 46:36Speaker 5: So I don't know. So, according to Babs, are wearing
- 46:38Speaker 5: every uniform the Patriots have ever worn.
- 46:39Speaker 4: This so I find it interesting though that so the
- 46:43Speaker 4: pat Patriot reds are now legendary, like everybody loves them,
- 46:47Speaker 4: and the nineties uniforms are have a little bit of
- 46:51Speaker 4: a you know, allowed group of people that I want
- 46:55Speaker 4: to see the Patriots wear those more. But Paul, correct
- 46:58Speaker 4: me if i'm those were not universally loved when they.
- 47:02Speaker 5: Actually wore them, right, I didn't really like them. Yeah,
- 47:04Speaker 5: but so don't let me speak for the entirety of
- 47:07Speaker 5: Patriots nation.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Let me I know, but I mean, I'm just saying
- 47:10Speaker 4: it's interesting that now everybody wants to bring you know,
- 47:13Speaker 4: I see people that really think that the red pat
- 47:16Speaker 4: Patriot uniform should be their default home uniform.
- 47:19Speaker 5: I really don't like the retro red uniform that we wear.
- 47:24Speaker 5: I like the late seventies version. Yeah, but most people
- 47:27Speaker 5: go with the stripes on the shoulder. I like the
- 47:30Speaker 5: stripes on the sleeve that they wore, like say Mike
- 47:34Speaker 5: Haynes seventy eight. Yeah, Yeah, I loved.
- 47:37Speaker 3: I think the thing is ever since the League went
- 47:38Speaker 3: to Nike, like Nike makes such a clean jersey that
- 47:41Speaker 3: the Royal like they won't mess up the Royal blues.
- 47:43Speaker 3: It's like the Eagles are bringing back the light greens,
- 47:46Speaker 3: like Kelly. Yeah, Like like Nike's going to make that
- 47:48Speaker 3: look unbelievable. And I think they could work some magic
- 47:50Speaker 3: with the Royal Blues. That's my take on.
- 47:53Speaker 5: I mean, we'll see, we'll see what they end up doing.
- 47:56Speaker 5: I mean I would be surprised if at least the
- 48:00Speaker 5: part that Bab said about the throwback uniforms. I think
- 48:03Speaker 5: that's something that you can probably bank on at some point,
- 48:06Speaker 5: just because I think that's the way the league is
- 48:08Speaker 5: trending to see that all the time. Again, I'm not
- 48:11Speaker 5: announcing anything on the show because I haven't seen anybody
- 48:14Speaker 5: within the Patriots organization state that on the record or definitively,
- 48:19Speaker 5: so I just go I'm just going by the pass,
- 48:22Speaker 5: you know, Like I think they've won the red a
- 48:23Speaker 5: little bit and I wouldn't be surprised to see that continue.
- 48:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't really love their current uniforms either. I
- 48:31Speaker 4: would be okay with seeing a full change, to be
- 48:36Speaker 4: honest with you, but I do. I'm a sucker for
- 48:39Speaker 4: the nostalgia, Like I really like doing the throwback weeks,
- 48:43Speaker 4: and I don't mind if these are the uniforms that
- 48:46Speaker 4: they're stuck with for the next handful of years.
- 48:48Speaker 5: I'll watch any time from seventy eight, Like all the
- 48:51Speaker 5: uniforms are on the League. It's like, you know, Cleveland
- 48:53Speaker 5: used to have those brown shirts with the orange pants,
- 48:56Speaker 5: Like I loved that.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Look, he's a question. So the aren't home jerseys pretty
- 49:01Speaker 3: much just the color rush from a couple of years ago, right?
- 49:03Speaker 4: The blueberries?
- 49:04Speaker 3: Yeah, the blueberry it's bad. Okay. Well, here's the thing.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Back in twenty sixteen or whatever, when they debuted them
- 49:09Speaker 3: against the Texans, did you like them then?
- 49:12Speaker 4: So this is my point. I yes, And this is
- 49:15Speaker 4: my point with the pat Patriot jersey is that if
- 49:18Speaker 4: you if you make that the default jersey, it's no
- 49:20Speaker 4: longer Yeah, it's no longer cool, Like, it's no longer
- 49:23Speaker 4: an individual throwback week type of thing, and now all
- 49:27Speaker 4: of a sudden it becomes a permanent thing. It doesn't
- 49:30Speaker 4: have the same mistique to it. So I think that
- 49:33Speaker 4: that's why I wouldn't want to change back to like
- 49:37Speaker 4: jerseys that they've worn in the past, is because it
- 49:39Speaker 4: may it doesn't. It's not special anymore if you're wearing
- 49:42Speaker 4: them everywhere.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Agree with you?
- 49:44Speaker 5: So, like, do you think San Diego, I'm sorry the
- 49:46Speaker 5: Chargers fall into that trap where the powder well, like,
- 49:50Speaker 5: they have a lot of different content. I'm sure you
- 49:52Speaker 5: love that.
- 49:53Speaker 3: I think their navy ones are the best they wear.
- 49:55Speaker 4: They we have the best jersey collection in football.
- 49:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they have like greeners are different combinations
- 50:00Speaker 5: that I like. That's that's the best in the league.
- 50:02Speaker 5: That's that's the second best in the LEA. That's the
- 50:04Speaker 5: third best in the league.
- 50:05Speaker 3: You know, I just want I just want some variety,
- 50:07Speaker 3: you know, wake up on a Sunday like, oh, they're
- 50:08Speaker 3: wearing great pants. There you go, just something all I want.
- 50:12Speaker 5: Well, we'll see.
- 50:14Speaker 4: Doesn't seem likely.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Oh no, not at all.
- 50:17Speaker 4: All right, more emails?
- 50:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I get another email.
- 50:20Speaker 4: All right, So this is from Steven. We've heard Belichick
- 50:23Speaker 4: talk about how the coverage and pass rush work in tandem.
- 50:27Speaker 4: Pass rush, that's that's tough to say, compliment each other.
- 50:33Speaker 4: Good coverage, it's a sass. Good pass rush heads to
- 50:35Speaker 4: I t's Is it the same with pass pro in receivers?
- 50:39Speaker 4: What I mean is, if our tackle situation doesn't get
- 50:42Speaker 4: better at the top and with depth, would in d
- 50:44Speaker 4: hop a guy who has always open due to his
- 50:46Speaker 4: hands as a safety valve for Mac one of the
- 50:49Speaker 4: best things we could do. So basically, he's saying, would
- 50:52Speaker 4: Hopkins also help make the tackles or the offensive line
- 50:57Speaker 4: less of a concern.
- 50:58Speaker 5: Well, I'm going to defer to you on this one
- 51:01Speaker 5: specifically because as you said earlier, you've been geeking out
- 51:04Speaker 5: on old Texans tape with with Hopkins. Is he a
- 51:07Speaker 5: guy that uncovers immediately?
- 51:09Speaker 4: I wouldn't. I don't know. I think that the emailers right,
- 51:13Speaker 4: and that he's one of those guys that's often always
- 51:17Speaker 4: open even if he doesn't look open because of his
- 51:19Speaker 4: catch rad he totally in with that. I don't know
- 51:22Speaker 4: if he's necessarily like an electric like off the line
- 51:24Speaker 4: separator that does that, but I think the main point
- 51:29Speaker 4: of there being other elements that contribute to pass protection
- 51:34Speaker 4: is definitely true. I mean, we saw with Brady with
- 51:37Speaker 4: the release, right, like if you have a quick release,
- 51:40Speaker 4: you can really eliminate a pass rush. If you stay
- 51:43Speaker 4: at certain depths of the pocket and kind of protect
- 51:45Speaker 4: yourself within the pocket, you can really help out your
- 51:48Speaker 4: tackles in your offensive line that way as well. I
- 51:51Speaker 4: think this is the one thing that Patrick Mahomes sometimes
- 51:54Speaker 4: does get knocked for is that he'll drop to thirteen
- 51:57Speaker 4: fourteen yards, which is really difficult.
- 52:00Speaker 5: He's taken a lot of criticism from that within his
- 52:02Speaker 5: own team, you know, and when I say criticisan, not
- 52:04Speaker 5: like they hate him, but they've talked about that a
- 52:07Speaker 5: couple of years ago with a lot of the problems
- 52:10Speaker 5: that he creates on his own because he's holding the ball,
- 52:13Speaker 5: He's retreating a lot of RPOs that you know, sometimes
- 52:17Speaker 5: it can be difficult, you know, the passes, plays that
- 52:20Speaker 5: are meant the balls meant to come out quickly, and
- 52:22Speaker 5: he holds it, you know, like that that can come
- 52:25Speaker 5: into play too. And that's why I think, and I
- 52:27Speaker 5: know Evans talked about this tease with Bill O'Brien. You
- 52:31Speaker 5: hope that you have a better design and maybe he
- 52:34Speaker 5: can help you cover up for your problems right now
- 52:37Speaker 5: at tackle with his scheme and just you know, get
- 52:41Speaker 5: the ball out quick because we know we're going to
- 52:43Speaker 5: be under pressure.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that I'm a big proponent for sacks
- 52:48Speaker 4: are as much a quarterback stat as they are an
- 52:50Speaker 4: offensive line stat, and maybe as much a scheme stat,
- 52:53Speaker 4: and some degree as well as they are an offensive
- 52:55Speaker 4: line stat, because you can really there's helping your offensive
- 52:59Speaker 4: line and there's really not helping your offensive line when
- 53:02Speaker 4: it comes to passing the football. And I think one
- 53:04Speaker 4: of the things that you always hear with with Brady
- 53:07Speaker 4: is not only did you know the depth that he
- 53:10Speaker 4: was dropping to, you also knew where he was going
- 53:12Speaker 4: to be because he's not mobile, so he's always going
- 53:14Speaker 4: to be sort of in the center of the pocket,
- 53:16Speaker 4: whereas with the guy you know that does move around
- 53:19Speaker 4: back there, it's unpredictable. It's difficult to know exactly where
- 53:23Speaker 4: he's going to be at all times. So they're guys
- 53:27Speaker 4: like that Mahomes, you know, Russell Wilson. Over the years,
- 53:30Speaker 4: those guys take a lot of sacks. They take a
- 53:32Speaker 4: lot of sacks just because of the way that they
- 53:34Speaker 4: play the game. So I think that in It's all
- 53:38Speaker 4: works together, it's a conjunction of everything that that sacks
- 53:41Speaker 4: become more of an offense.
- 53:43Speaker 5: As Fred says, apropos of nothing, I'm curious to see
- 53:46Speaker 5: what Russell Wilson.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Looks like this shit. I was thinking the exact same point.
- 53:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I hear some reports out of Denver
- 53:52Speaker 5: that he shed some.
- 53:53Speaker 3: LB's reports that Peyton doesn't really want himself.
- 53:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but just with the fact that he's there though
- 54:00Speaker 5: he's he's a pretty good offensive code. That's offense.
- 54:03Speaker 3: It's the game. I'm sneakily excited for I think it's
- 54:06Speaker 3: gonna be a good one.
- 54:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm curious to see what he looks like. And
- 54:09Speaker 5: is he completely washed cashed like you know, or is
- 54:13Speaker 5: he does he does he have something left? A big
- 54:17Speaker 5: season for him. Let's get back to the phones because
- 54:20Speaker 5: as I said that, we weren't getting a lot of calls.
- 54:22Speaker 5: There you go, our boys have come through. Jesse is
- 54:25Speaker 5: in New Bedford, so we'll take him first. Will take
- 54:31Speaker 5: him first? Hey, Jesse, what's going on?
- 54:35Speaker 7: What's going on?
- 54:37Speaker 9: Quick?
- 54:37Speaker 7: Thing? Beautiforms? I like him, but I think I don't
- 54:40Speaker 7: know if Evan said it. I like the blue with
- 54:43Speaker 7: the white pants. I don't know who said that, but
- 54:45Speaker 7: that brings out the blue. It's not so much. I
- 54:48Speaker 7: think just go with that and maybe like a couple
- 54:50Speaker 7: of games a year, go with like the white helmets,
- 54:53Speaker 7: but with the new logo.
- 54:55Speaker 5: That's Fred Stan. Yeah, that's Fred's thing. He wants the
- 54:57Speaker 5: elvis with the white helmet.
- 54:58Speaker 3: Can you do that'?
- 55:00Speaker 4: Yeah? There are limitations lead the.
- 55:02Speaker 7: Blue jersey with the white pants. And then because when
- 55:04Speaker 7: it's the white jersey with the blue pants, I think
- 55:06Speaker 7: it looks good. You got to offset the colors there.
- 55:09Speaker 7: So that's my opinion with that. My second opinion is
- 55:14Speaker 7: I think a lot of people, uh, the narrative on
- 55:17Speaker 7: Mac is a rookie year, he was you know, you know,
- 55:21Speaker 7: look at this guy, he's had a great rookie year.
- 55:24Speaker 7: You know this and that, And I kind of compare
- 55:26Speaker 7: it to Trevor Lawrence because everybody was saying he was
- 55:28Speaker 7: a bust his rookie year. But why was he a
- 55:30Speaker 7: bus because he had Urban Meyer and the clown show
- 55:33Speaker 7: and that's what Mac had this year. So if you
- 55:36Speaker 7: reverse the years, you put the Patricia year as max rookie,
- 55:40Speaker 7: then he put max rookie with this year, what would
- 55:43Speaker 7: be what would everybody be talking about the same thing
- 55:45Speaker 7: that the narrative for Trevor Lawrence is our local Lawrence
- 55:48Speaker 7: did with was a legit coaching system. I think would
- 55:51Speaker 7: be he's saying the same thing with Mac. He had
- 55:54Speaker 7: a boso for a coach his rookie year, and now
- 55:57Speaker 7: look at him. He's got Bill O'Brien. He's coming along.
- 56:00Speaker 7: Twenty three touchdowns, eleven picks or whatever it was, thirteen,
- 56:03Speaker 7: you know, he's coming along. He's make that turn. He
- 56:06Speaker 7: made a little leap and I think he's gonna make
- 56:08Speaker 7: a big leap. So all I'm trying to say is
- 56:10Speaker 7: if he reverse the years, I think the narrative would
- 56:12Speaker 7: be a lot different on Mac. In my personal opinion,
- 56:15Speaker 7: I think he's gonna absolutely light it up this year
- 56:19Speaker 7: and a lot of people are going to be eating
- 56:21Speaker 7: a lot of crawl. I think he's gonna really really
- 56:24Speaker 7: tear it off. What you guys think, Mac Jones all
- 56:27Speaker 7: the way.
- 56:28Speaker 5: Hi, Jesse, I'm gonna just a good call.
- 56:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's.
- 56:34Speaker 5: Listen, I love it. Drop the hend there's a lot listen,
- 56:37Speaker 5: there's a lot of enthusiasm. I think that's great. I
- 56:40Speaker 5: would just look at it and say, like, what game
- 56:43Speaker 5: did Mac Jones come from like twenty eight down to
- 56:45Speaker 5: win when he was when he was a rookie, when
- 56:47Speaker 5: he had when he had the Trevor Lawrence season, What
- 56:51Speaker 5: game did he come from behind and you know, score
- 56:55Speaker 5: like two touchdowns in the last five minutes to get
- 56:57Speaker 5: a game to overtime against the Cowboys? Like I didn't
- 56:59Speaker 5: see that. I didn't see that kind of stuff. So yeah,
- 57:02Speaker 5: there's some similarities with Trevor Lawrence was I don't think
- 57:09Speaker 5: anybody considered him a bust but Trevor Lawrence was disappointing
- 57:13Speaker 5: his rookie year with a train wreck of a coaching staff,
- 57:16Speaker 5: and he was much better in year two. I think
- 57:20Speaker 5: with an average coaching staff. I'm sorry, Like he didn't
- 57:22Speaker 5: have Bill Belichick. He had Doug Peterson, good quarterbacks coach.
- 57:26Speaker 4: Though.
- 57:27Speaker 5: Listen, he won a Super Bowl. He beat the Patriots
- 57:29Speaker 5: in the Super Bowl, so I can't take that away.
- 57:31Speaker 5: He made Carson Wentz and Nick Foles. I can't take
- 57:34Speaker 5: that away from him. But I just think that what
- 57:37Speaker 5: Trevor Lawrence did last year, to me, and maybe it's
- 57:40Speaker 5: because you're gonna call me negative, I think was vastly superior.
- 57:45Speaker 4: We're gon we're gonna go from now on. No, I
- 57:49Speaker 4: think that you have to. So I actually got a
- 57:53Speaker 4: DM about this a couple of days ago too, and
- 57:55Speaker 4: he did a statistical side by side.
- 57:57Speaker 5: I saw the statistical side by side between Mac Jones
- 58:01Speaker 5: and Josh Allen. Oh after two years, so this is
- 58:03Speaker 5: all the passing numbers are the same, and the guy
- 58:06Speaker 5: goes the only thing that Josh Allen is better at
- 58:08Speaker 5: is running, and I'm like, oh, that's all yeah, not
- 58:11Speaker 5: like that.
- 58:11Speaker 4: Okay, this was this was Trevor versus Mac. And so
- 58:16Speaker 4: Trevor Lawrence is in his first two years his td
- 58:19Speaker 4: DI in t ratio thirty seven to twenty five, and
- 58:22Speaker 4: Max is thirty six to twenty four, so pretty much
- 58:24Speaker 4: almost identical. And so I wouldn't might you know, you
- 58:27Speaker 4: go down the line here, Lawrence hasn't beat in passing
- 58:30Speaker 4: yards total yards. Mac is better completion percentage. MAC has
- 58:34Speaker 4: a slightly better passer rating. But they're all right in
- 58:36Speaker 4: the same ballpark. So I understand where people are coming
- 58:39Speaker 4: from with the stats. But you got to use your
- 58:41Speaker 4: eyes a little bit too, watch the game, right, and
- 58:44Speaker 4: you got to realize, I'm not trying to crap all
- 58:47Speaker 4: over Mac, because I think Mac can still be a good,
- 58:49Speaker 4: solid NFL starting quarterback. But the two things that Trevor
- 58:53Speaker 4: are won just physically, it's not close, like there are
- 58:56Speaker 4: two different planets in terms of.
- 58:59Speaker 5: How Jack'sville won some of their games. Yeah, and show
- 59:02Speaker 5: me the games that the Patriots won that way.
- 59:04Speaker 4: Yeah. I would also say Trevor Lawrence coming into the
- 59:08Speaker 4: league was as sure of a prospect as any quarterback
- 59:12Speaker 4: since basically Andrew Luck right, And there was a reason
- 59:16Speaker 4: for that, Like there was a reason why there Nobody,
- 59:20Speaker 4: not a soul questioned that Trevor Lawren should go number
- 59:22Speaker 4: one overall in that draft. Nobody where the conversation started.
- 59:26Speaker 4: Where right after Trevor Lawrence, like Zach Wilson, Trey Lance
- 59:29Speaker 4: Fields and Mac. So. I don't think the Lawrence comparison
- 59:34Speaker 4: is a good one because I think Trevor Lawrence is
- 59:36Speaker 4: a much much better physical player, Like he's just a
- 59:41Speaker 4: tool more toolsy thrower, a better athlete. But say nothing
- 59:44Speaker 4: of you don't think there's a difference between Jacksonville, Yeah
- 59:48Speaker 4: and New England. Yeah.
- 59:49Speaker 5: New England has been the pre eminent program in the
- 59:52Speaker 5: NFL for twenty plus years and Jacksonville is still kind
- 59:56Speaker 5: of an expansion team. That's how people think of him,
- 59:58Speaker 5: and that's what they've been. They have a couple of,
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: you know, little bumps where they you know, like was
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: it seventeen that they had us beat in the AC
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: Championship game? Right? I mean yeah, every once in a
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: while they put a good team on the field. It's
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: still Jacksonville. Yeah, you're not comparing the two, are you.
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: I just I can't. I can't get to the Lawrence
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: Mac comparisons because maybe it is just my priors, Like
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: maybe it is just how I felt coming into that
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: draft about the two guys, but to me, one of
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: them has so much more physical upside than the other.
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: And I hope that Mac proves me wrong in that department.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: I think Mac can be a fringe top ten quarterback
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: like a Kirk Cousins, but I hope he proves me wrong.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: I hope that he goes out there and shows me
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: physically that he can be even better than that.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: Yeah, And I just feel like I know that he
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: sort of dismissed this part of it. Jesse dismissed this
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: part of it. But yeah, it's better to be blah
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: as a rookie and improve a second year guy then
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: it is to be black as a roopeat and go
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: down as a second year. Like, yeah, you would think
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: of it different if he had the better year in
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: year two, because that's the progression.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: Yeah, But I still think we harke him back to
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: year one, and we still say when it was competent
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: around him and he had Josh McDaniels and he had
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: enough around him playmaker wise and a good coordinator, he
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: was fine. Like I still think we do.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: That, and I think he'll be fine this year for this.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: For those reasons, That's why I want to see some
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: structure because Trevor Lawrence going into year two of Doug Peterson,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: Like we need Mac Jones to get two years of
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: an offensive coordinator. You don't want to end up like
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: Alex Smith ten years ago where he had what like
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: four different coordinators, Like you can't you can't set your
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: quarterback up for success with that system.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: So yeah, and also I want to I'm not like
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: all in on Trevor Lawrence yet either, Like I think
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: I think he had a great year last year. The
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: playoff game was certainly a really good It was.
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: A good bounce back. He'd throw four pitance you know.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: Yeah, but I'm not saying that I think Trevor Lawrence
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: is like this great, all time great yet either. You know,
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: he's still got a ways to go to until he
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: proves that he's got a He has thrown a lot
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: of interceptions in a lot of big games. Yeah, and
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: it has had some moments down stretches and games that
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: have been close to where he hasn't been you know,
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: nails like he was in that playoff game.
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: Yeah, Matt, let's get back to the phone.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: Lines.
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: We got Dan in Virginia in Michigan, don't forget Michigan Dan, I.
- 1:02:27Speaker 12: Thank as well with the pole filling a little vulnerable,
- 1:02:29Speaker 12: being called a curmudgeon and all by uh by.
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: Believe me, if that was the worst I was called,
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: I'd be doing all right.
- 1:02:40Speaker 12: The correct term is great white snog, of course correct.
- 1:02:45Speaker 12: And the lack of goals, I thought I'd just trying
- 1:02:47Speaker 12: to make poles a little better.
- 1:02:48Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 1:02:49Speaker 12: Uh I got two questions with Hopkins available, Yeah, I
- 1:02:55Speaker 12: might be a bit negative here, but is anyone concerned
- 1:02:58Speaker 12: that the fact that he is of like that you
- 1:03:02Speaker 12: know that he isn't going to be everything that the
- 1:03:06Speaker 12: fan base is hoping for.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: A little surprised. I'm a little surprised by that, but
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: I still want him.
- 1:03:12Speaker 12: Yeah, how does he run?
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: Blocking?
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: Know, Paul, that is too share.
- 1:03:18Speaker 12: But the other question I have is the Patriots are
- 1:03:22Speaker 12: gonna have a big to do for Brady that first
- 1:03:25Speaker 12: week of the season. And I know Paul's probably going
- 1:03:30Speaker 12: to say that any quarterback that's affected by this he
- 1:03:34Speaker 12: doesn't want anyway, But is it the wisest timing to
- 1:03:37Speaker 12: have that big Brady shindig the first week of the season.
- 1:03:41Speaker 12: You know, Max, who is kind of coming back from
- 1:03:43Speaker 12: this sub past season, confidence might be a little dented.
- 1:03:47Speaker 12: Do you really want the greatest of all time you
- 1:03:49Speaker 12: know there that first week rather than kind of maybe
- 1:03:52Speaker 12: letting Max find his get that confidence back a little
- 1:03:56Speaker 12: bit first, before you know, you bring you bring the
- 1:03:58Speaker 12: goat to down?
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: What do you guys think of that?
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: I don't love Brady coming during a game. I don't
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: love it.
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: I love him coming back. I hate that it's week one.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: I wish it was like last year. Yeah, it's just tough.
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: I don't know if I necessarily if he has to
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: do it. I don't mind it being week one, because
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: I think even worse than that would be if he
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: comes back and they're like two and ten and he's
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: they're just matching them out there for the well.
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: At least that wouldn't affect anything. But what if you're like,
- 1:04:25Speaker 5: you know, four and two, and he comes back and
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: it throws them for a loop and you lose a game.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: To a either Washington. I don't know, I play a team.
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: I know I went, I went, I went negative on
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: that one and said two and ten. Paul's right, they
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: could be five and one and all of a sudden,
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: Brady comes and it's the circus and it throws them
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: through a loop. I don't think there would be a
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: great time for him to come back in season, which
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: is why I'm not a huge fan of it being
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: in season. I totally understand why we're doing it as
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: an organization and as as as you know, a team,
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: why we'd want it, But I don't. I don't love
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: it for multiple reasons. And I just there's such a
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: and you know, I listened to to Paul's shows and
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: and and you hear these people call there more than here.
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: I would say, there's still so many fans that are
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: bitter over him leaving in the first place, that I
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: just I just don't love the optics of like what
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: Matista was kind of saying, You're playing the defending NFC champions.
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: It's week one of the season. Everybody always puts a
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: little bit into Week one, right How do they look
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: right out of the gate if they then go on
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: the field and get to waxed by the Eagles, who
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: are just a better team than you right now? Anyways,
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: that's it's gonna I don't know, it's a lot.
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: I was kind of I don't really feel all that
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: passionately either way about it. But you guys are making
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: good points. Damn you want you want over the the crowd.
- 1:05:52Speaker 12: It's also surprising, like from a business point of view,
- 1:05:55Speaker 12: you know everyone's gonna be there for the game anyway,
- 1:05:57Speaker 12: if you have a separate thing, you know, like they.
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: Do the whole that That's a point I brought up.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: That's a point I brought up in a meeting and
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: I was summarily told.
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: To keep quiet. What was the point?
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: Like the opener can't get any bigger, right, And I like,
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: to me, it's kind of like wasting you know, the
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: Brady I guess, but I think that they kind of
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: felt like it was the best in terms of the logistics.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. And I know that they've done
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: this with other like Edelman had his his halftime like
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: send off, and they've done this with the other great
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: Patriots in the past where they give them that eight
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: minutes at halftime to to wave to the crowd and
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: everything like that. So I I understand that, I say,
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: But why, But why did it have to be the opener?
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: Is I think dance point like if you do it
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: in you know, even if you did a week two
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: in the Sunday night game against Miami, like that opener
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: is already you know, yeah, she's the ticket holders aren't
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: giving away their opener tickets, you know, like it's juice anyway.
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: I just also like you know more about it, Paul,
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: because you're you're invited to the to the meetings where
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: they talk about these things. Yes, that's very important, yes,
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: uh uh, And I'm to sit in the back and
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: keep quiet. It also is just kind of weird to
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: me that like they're bringing him out in week one
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: to like wave to the crowd, and there's no, it's
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: not a jersey retirement, it's not an induction into the
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: Patriots Hall of Fame. It's just he's here, like, you know,
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: in that part of it, I didn't like. I just
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know what the purpose of
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: that is. I guess I will just say that there
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: will be more.
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: Who's honor? Yeah, all right, Dan, thanks, let's uh, you know,
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: my food is here, so we have I want to
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: clear the phone lines before I go and eat, so
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: Paul and Vancouver Paulie won't be seeing him no more.
- 1:07:46Speaker 13: Hey, boys, how you're doing today.
- 1:07:48Speaker 8: You got your hard.
- 1:07:49Speaker 13: Hats on there.
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: Yeah, you got a lot. There's a lot of stuff
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: going on here.
- 1:07:54Speaker 13: I was like, I waited to get on the show
- 1:07:56Speaker 13: here and I got this drill that buz in my
- 1:07:59Speaker 13: ears or whatever.
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: Oh you got to see you got to see Marine corps.
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: Though he he storms out of the.
- 1:08:04Speaker 14: The I could not find him.
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: He's like looking, Whore's that noise coming from? Do you
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: know how many different ways I have to kill you?
- 1:08:14Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:08:15Speaker 8: It's quite ridiculous.
- 1:08:16Speaker 15: All right.
- 1:08:17Speaker 13: With all the talk about DeAndre Hopkins, I just want
- 1:08:19Speaker 13: to ask you a couple of questions about the receiving
- 1:08:22Speaker 13: corps as a whole, because I think the most successful
- 1:08:25Speaker 13: ones have a range of quality, and many times in
- 1:08:30Speaker 13: the show I hear this comment that the Pats have
- 1:08:32Speaker 13: too many of the same types of receiver. So what
- 1:08:36Speaker 13: is your ideal composition of the receiving corps? Like, you know,
- 1:08:41Speaker 13: like you kind of think of it more like a
- 1:08:43Speaker 13: basketball team. You get your point guard, you're power for
- 1:08:46Speaker 13: small forward, right so you know, like I think we're
- 1:08:49Speaker 13: kind of missing with that quick swat guy right now,
- 1:08:52Speaker 13: you know, And so the question is, what is your
- 1:08:54Speaker 13: ideal composition? How's that how's the current pack team compaired
- 1:09:00Speaker 13: to that, and how do you think what you have
- 1:09:02Speaker 13: it tight end affects that.
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: I don't know if I necessarily think that they don't
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: have complimentary receivers. I think when we say that they
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: have the similar receivers, we're talking about like talent level. Well,
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: you know, they have a bunch of like twos and
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: threes and there's no number one in the group. Like,
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: they do have some diversity in terms of skill sets,
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: like DeVante Parker is your above the rim contested catch guy.
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: You know, Juju is your power slot. Taekwan's your burner. Like,
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: they do have a little bit different things that they
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: do well. I think the only overlap is maybe like
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: Kendrick Bourne and Juju or are somewhat similar.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: I think you want what you're saying is like I
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: want what the Bengals have, what the Chargers have. You know,
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: you got Jamar Chase and t Higgins on the one.
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: On the other side, the Chargers have Keenan Allen, Mike Williams.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: Like you need that one stug guy and then the
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: shifty guy slot.
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: I'd like a burner with some size, not a not
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: a just a small like aj Brown, Yeah, a burner
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: with some size and then maybe more of a possession
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: guy on the outs. Yeah, and then you know, you know,
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: a good quality slot guy. It doesn't have to be
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: like the small, shifty slot guy like I think Tyler
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: Boyd has been a really good slot receiver for a
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: long time. Now he's on the back nine. I think
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: he's sort of the declining, which is great for him
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: to be with those two dynamic guys on the outside.
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: But I do kind of look at Cincinnati now, three
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: really good players, like but I do think they have
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: different skill sets, you know, and Higgins has the size,
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: contested catchability and speed, whereas Chase does everything and you know,
- 1:10:33Speaker 5: and I think Boyd is just a really steady guy.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: And they had the other guy that filled in a
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: little bit, the guy with the hair, but he made
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: he made some plays for them, you know, down to
- 1:10:47Speaker 5: stretch opportunities.
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: They just they just drafted one of the one of
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: the guys I liked in the draft a lot. And
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: now Charlie Jones. They drafted Charlie Jones Jones, so he's
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: the next Tyler Boyd, I would assume for them running.
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: I really like Tyler Boyd coming out of pit too. Yeah, no,
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: they they I mean I thought the Patriots would be
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: on him. The Bengals have a great receiver room. They
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: definitely an argument that they're the best receiving room in
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: the in the league. And you also kind of describe Philadelphia,
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: I guess a little bit with AJ Brown and Devalte
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: Smith and Goddard kind of being more of the middle
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: of the field guy.
- 1:11:19Speaker 5: And I would say Paul Evan makes a good point
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: with the tight end. I would add, you know, a mobile,
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: you know, pass catching tight end into that mix. Now,
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: obviously that's what makes the best offense is the best.
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: Yeah, the balance, but more of.
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: Those things that one offense has becomes awfully difficult to stop. Yeah.
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: I think that the Patriots have or decently diverse in
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: their skill sets, but they just don't, like we always say,
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: they don't have the AJ Brown, they don't have the
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: Jamar Chase. They don't have that guy. And I think
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: you know that that's the hope is that if you
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: get Opkins, that he can at least be that guy
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: in the short term. He's not going to be a
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: long term solution for that problem, but maybe he will
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: be in the short term.
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: All right, fat guy's going to eat so so uh hey,
- 1:12:00Speaker 5: look at that. We went one twelve cruise all football,
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: one twelve all football, so we'll have plenty of time
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: for nonsense after I eat.

- 1:22:35Speaker 2: The logic behind where they stock face The mayonnaise should
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: be by the tuna. Okay, Jerry, all right, you can
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: have another section with mayonnaires, but also put it by
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: the tuna.
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: I agree.
- 1:22:49Speaker 14: There should be hot dog buns by there, but you
- 1:22:51Speaker 14: have to go all the way.
- 1:22:53Speaker 11: Yeah, but you have to go all the way to
- 1:22:55Speaker 11: the breadile hot dogs and.
- 1:22:59Speaker 5: Now just that stuff.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: Because I like, I guess if you go in and
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: you do big shops, Okay, you're going up and down
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: in the aisle, just get a couple of things.
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: Then you don't go to a supermarket, go to a
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: seven eleven, go to a convenience.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: Are gonna have a little hot dogs at seven eleven?
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: Yes, it's the same package of hot dogs at seven eleven.
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: Check the expiration date?
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: Charge him expose I would expired. I mean, if you
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: don't change inspiration date, that's on.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: You because they're sitting in there for a while.
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: So then you don't buy it.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: You don't go grocery shopping at seven eleven. You go
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: in there to get a cit Did he just change?
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: Did he just do it? Did he just do pack
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: a cigarette? Just jack? Did he just change? The argument?
- 1:23:42Speaker 5: And typical Fred fashion.
- 1:23:43Speaker 21: That's another great moment from.
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: You know, there's a lot of those that come back.
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: And I hear myself in an argument and I and
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: I cringe, and I was like, what aude, what a
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: sanctimonious jerk? Like about myself? I think, Wow, could you
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: have sounded any more arrogant? Or could you have been
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: any more like snarky. And then I hear that one,
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: and I'm like, if you just need like a couple
- 1:24:10Speaker 5: of things, why wouldn't you just stop on a seven eleven?
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: And then he goes, why would you do your grocery
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: shopping at seven eleven? I never said that. I like
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: literally never said, Oh, I have a list of thirty
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: seven things, I'm going to go to seven eleven and
- 1:24:22Speaker 5: pay ten times as much for them at the convenience
- 1:24:25Speaker 5: store than I would at stop and shop.
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: Yeah, so we've been doing some some cookouts lately, been
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: on the grill and get doing my my dad thing
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: and uh, we have a market basket, like one of
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: those big giant market baskets right down the street, and
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: you know sometimes like we need to we need hot
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: dogs or a macaroni salad, whatever, like you're just missing
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: a couple of things for the cookout. And I go
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: into a market basket on like a Sunday afternoon. I
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: almost didn't get out alive. I was like, what am I?
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: What am I doing here? Like this is I just
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: went in for like three things. It was like hot dogs, uh,
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: some macaroni salad. And then because I obviously too, I
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: was looking for some dessert also right like three things,
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: and I literally walked into like you would think that
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: the apocalypse was coming or something like that. And so
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: to that point, next time, I might just go to
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: like the seven eleven down the street if.
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: You if you just like you had everything that you
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: needed but you forgot catch up or you know, Hamburger. Yeah,
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: I wouldn't go in and say, well, geez, these Hamburger rolls.
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: I mean the green but you know what, what's the
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: obviously you look at the expiration date.
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: I got seven eleven right across the street from me
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: and has a liquor store in it, So I mean,
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: I spend way too much money there, but that's my spot.
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: I'll buy whatever they need, whatever they got there.
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: But Fred he just that mark. Everything's got to be
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: high end.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: So everything's as a Wegman's Whole Foods guy. You know
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: that that next that next tier up.
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: He is funny though he has his He has his quirks,
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: as as do we all.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: True.
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: All right, Matt, you ready, I don't want to throw
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: you off guard like I did catch you off god,
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: like I did before the break. So Brian and Saint
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: Louis looks like he's been holding the longest, so we'll
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: go with him.
- 1:26:15Speaker 8: Hey, you ready for me?
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: Absolutely?
- 1:26:18Speaker 9: Oh fantastic.
- 1:26:19Speaker 22: So Hey, I called in.
- 1:26:22Speaker 9: I called him last time, and I thank you for
- 1:26:26Speaker 9: the thoughts that you had on the development of Tom
- 1:26:29Speaker 9: Brady over time, and that that was intriguing. I wanted
- 1:26:33Speaker 9: to add something to the conversation.
- 1:26:36Speaker 22: That may help to add some fullness to the picture
- 1:26:40Speaker 22: and also give us an understanding of how we might
- 1:26:44Speaker 22: see the.
- 1:26:44Speaker 9: Development of mac choums.
- 1:26:46Speaker 22: So first, there's I think about I think about the
- 1:26:52Speaker 22: playoff game for Tom Brady and the Patriots the second year.
- 1:26:57Speaker 22: I think it was the visual round against the Stealers,
- 1:27:02Speaker 22: and I.
- 1:27:02Speaker 23: Remember Tom Brady could not make a touchdown throw off
- 1:27:07Speaker 23: to the side.
- 1:27:09Speaker 8: And I don't know, I don't know, my memory somewhat big.
- 1:27:12Speaker 10: I don't know if he was injured or whatever the
- 1:27:14Speaker 10: case was. Drew Bledsoe comes in, he makes the pass.
- 1:27:18Speaker 22: And if I remember correctly, this is what allows the
- 1:27:22Speaker 22: Patriots to win the game, right.
- 1:27:27Speaker 7: Am I right?
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: Well, it's a little I mean, you're a little simplistic,
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: even even speaking to the biggest Drew Bledsoe fan on
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: the planet. Tom got hurt. They didn't really do anything
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: on offense in that game. With or without Tom, they
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: were They had seven points on a punt return for
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: a touchdown by by Troy Brown. When Tom left the
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: game and then Drew came in. In the first drive,
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: he lit it up. He went right down the field,
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: I think he.
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: I think he completed three passes, the third of which
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: was a beautiful touchdown.
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: To David Patton.
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: But in the second half they didn't do a whole
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: lot offensively. They blocked a field goal for another touchdown,
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: and then late in the game when the game was
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: was getting close, he he did lead a big drive
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: for a field goal that kind of sealed it. But statistically,
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: I think Brady actually threw for a couple more yards
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: than Bledsoe in that game, but either one of them
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: did anything. So I pulled up through for like one
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: hundred and twenty yards or something like that, even though
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: Paul just told me the box score. But yeah, Brady
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: threw for one hundred and fifteen and Drew through for
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: one hundred and two.
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: Yeah, So they didn't really have a lot in the
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: way of offense. Now I would say they would not
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: have to say that. They wouldn't have won the game
- 1:28:44Speaker 5: if Drew didn't come in, is I think a stretch. Again,
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: I'm the biggest bledsoe supported there is. But he he
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: did enough. He did enough to win the game. Right,
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: he did enough to win a game.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: Right he threw in the second quarter.
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: Yeah, he did throw it touchdown pass. It was the
- 1:29:01Speaker 5: first drive he came in.
- 1:29:03Speaker 10: Kept trying to make this pass. It wasn't It wasn't happen.
- 1:29:05Speaker 13: It wasn't happen.
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: Well, Brady threw the same touchdown pass in the Super
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: Bowl two weeks later, one week later. Actually, it was
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: a very similar play.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: I think it might have been the same play.
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: White fifty zing cry for I used.
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: To well, he broke it down on Uh what was
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: that quarterbacks thing that they used to do the Pro
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: Bowl Quarterback Skill Challenge or whatever with the about Yeah,
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: so they used to do a quarterback skill challenge. Brady
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: was in it. He did terribly, which like isn't surprising
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: because he's not you know, the guys that won it
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: or you know, like yeah, like a Brett Farv or
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: like you know, Cordell Stewart was always really good in
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: it because he could add the cannon and Brady broke
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: down the David Patton touchdown pass from the Super Bowl
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: and like spelled out the whole play and all everything,
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: all the reads, all that type of stuff, And it
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: was like a segment that was like what's your favorite play,
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: like if you know there's one player that you want
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: them to call, and it was the touchdown to Patton,
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: which was the same play that that true through.
- 1:30:01Speaker 23: The dusty mm hmm okay, thank you, and a couple
- 1:30:06Speaker 23: other things. Evan, that was a nice article that you
- 1:30:10Speaker 23: wrote on potential breakout players and that that was especially
- 1:30:15Speaker 23: the running backs. I appreciated the the the writing about
- 1:30:19Speaker 23: Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris and I wasn't too familiar
- 1:30:24Speaker 23: with with Kevin Harrison and uh he he the clip
- 1:30:29Speaker 23: that you put up there, You've got a lot of potential.
- 1:30:31Speaker 9: I was impressed.
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:30:35Speaker 23: And lastly, and i'll take this one off the air,
- 1:30:38Speaker 23: I'm glad you mentioned David Patten because.
- 1:30:41Speaker 13: He was on my list.
- 1:30:42Speaker 23: I think he is the most under rated, the most
- 1:30:46Speaker 23: underrated wide receiver that the Patriots have had instead of
- 1:30:50Speaker 23: in the time.
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: Yeah Patton. Yeah, thanks for your phone's kind of in
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: and out. But yeah, I think David Patten was a
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: by the way, yes, but a very important part of
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: those Super Bowl teams in the first part of the dynasty.
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: I thought he made some big plays. Obviously he had
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: that huge game in Indianapolis in O one, but just
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: some plays that you remember, like those two touchdowns back
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: to back weeks AFC Championship in Super Bowl. He was
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: a really reliable guy. I think, very different style, but
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: same kind of stature David Gibbons. I think Gibbons was
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: a really important guy that somewhat gets overlooked. They weren't
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: similar in style of David Patton could fly and David
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: Gibbons was a possession receiver. But I do think they're
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: sort of you know, you don't it's it's Troy Brown,
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: it's Randy Moss, it's Wes Welker, it's you know, it's
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: Julian Edelman.
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: It's oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: And then they had David Patton and David Gibbons too.
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: Even Dion Branch, you know, dwarfed David Gibbons in terms
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: of importance in memories.
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: Yeah, David Patton I always remember, just it wasn't you know.
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: I think what he had, like eight hundred yards is
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: like his biggest year with the Patriots, but just a
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: reliable guy that played big and big games and stuff
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: like that, just to one of those guys that you
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: just need when you're when you have Super Bowl aspirations
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: like those Patriots teams did, maybe not a know one,
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: but three oh four because one of those guys that
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: is just part of that, right that those big moments
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: and a big time player in big moments. And I
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: always like David Patten a lot. I think is a
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: good Patriots.
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: So in all the years Evan that you go out
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: and you do training camp, yes, he has a smirk,
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: he thinks I'm setting them up.
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: So in all the years that you do training camp,
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: do you ever go out and see a guy and
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: I'm talking specifically like a wide receiver, but a player
- 1:32:46Speaker 5: in general that you know very little to nothing about,
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: and all of a sudden you just look and you
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: say that that guy can play.
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: He's he's pretty good.
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: David Patton was that guy for me in that season.
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: In the two thousand and one season, I was like,
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: he's he's going to be good. I thought I thought
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: Drew was going to throw bombs to him all year. No,
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: obviously didn't work.
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: Out that way, but I dreams did Yeah up here,
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: you can't take it away any guys like that, and
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: you gotta you gotta make this quick because we have
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: his special special Guest. I don't know. I'm such a
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: draft nerd that, like I I kind of know know
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: everybody that that's no, I'm not saying that, I that
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: I think I am right all the time about who's
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: going to be good and who's not going to be good.
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: I know, but I think that, you know, I just
- 1:33:34Speaker 4: I do a lot of the prep work with the
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: draft and stuff like that. But I think the one
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: guy that that really I just wasn't sure if he
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: was going to be anything for the Patriots at all
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: in terms of NFL player was would probably be Jacobe Myers.
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: Like I knew Jacoby, I knew, you know, I knew
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: that he was productive at NC State. I knew that
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: he had that Patriot but it was apparent immediate this
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: guy can play. Yeah, yeah, that's a good one. Yeah,
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: all right, So the special Guest, I.
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: Didn't think I could lose much more respect for for
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: Mike do so, but I think I just did in
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: Hawaii calling into a Patriots on a filtered show, What
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: is it? Like seven o'clock, eight o'clocky.
- 1:34:19Speaker 10: It's well, it is seven o'clock. But I gotta say
- 1:34:21Speaker 10: I got up at h I got up at six
- 1:34:23Speaker 10: am because you got to go to this this place
- 1:34:25Speaker 10: called the cinnamon Roll Place, that's what it's literally called.
- 1:34:27Speaker 10: So anybody who knows me got it bright and early,
- 1:34:30Speaker 10: and there's already a line around the corner. So yeah,
- 1:34:33Speaker 10: I was. I was digging into a giant cinnamon roll
- 1:34:35Speaker 10: about the size of my head when Matisse reached out.
- 1:34:37Speaker 10: So I'm happy to call in.
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: I didn't.
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: I didn't know. I didn't know that Matisa reached out.
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: I said, if he was up, he has to call it.
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: So now now you're off the hook. Now you're not
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: as big a louse.
- 1:34:47Speaker 4: Is anybody more energetic than Deuce right now? And it's
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: seven am? Where he is?
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: Seven am?
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: How many high names?
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:34:54Speaker 10: Well, it's that's the thing that's weird about Hawaii, Like
- 1:34:56Speaker 10: everybody gets up early. And I don't know if that's
- 1:34:58Speaker 10: just because everyone's on time change, but like that, we
- 1:35:02Speaker 10: were driving over, We're driving to several places six forty five,
- 1:35:05Speaker 10: and it's like, you know, people are out walking, walking,
- 1:35:08Speaker 10: their kids running, I mean it's just packed already. So
- 1:35:11Speaker 10: uh yeah, usually gets windy here too in Maui, So
- 1:35:14Speaker 10: you got to get out early if you want to
- 1:35:15Speaker 10: have a nice day.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: How many high news do you have?
- 1:35:19Speaker 10: Oh, they were, they were, They were flowing last night.
- 1:35:21Speaker 10: They were flowing last night, for sure. Uh it was fun.
- 1:35:25Speaker 10: We went on a we went on a little dolphins
- 1:35:26Speaker 10: boat tour yesterday. Oh nice, which you know, for some
- 1:35:30Speaker 10: of us was fun because we got to see uh
- 1:35:32Speaker 10: some dolphins. But for some of a good bunjory not
- 1:35:35Speaker 10: no un stand majority, but a significant chunk of the population. Unfortunately,
- 1:35:38Speaker 10: they paid for three hours of sea sickness and we're
- 1:35:42Speaker 10: sitting in the bottom of the boat just throwing up
- 1:35:44Speaker 10: the whole time.
- 1:35:45Speaker 8: As we were driving out the dolphins, they like made.
- 1:35:48Speaker 10: This announced it like, you know, it's gonna be a
- 1:35:50Speaker 10: little bit rolla today. So if you do get sick,
- 1:35:52Speaker 10: go for distance, go off the boat.
- 1:35:54Speaker 13: Uh.
- 1:35:54Speaker 8: But they were great.
- 1:35:55Speaker 10: They brought everybody bluckus. I just I was laughing because
- 1:35:57Speaker 10: like these four people probably thought they were going off
- 1:35:59Speaker 10: to seat dolphins and and it said they just paid
- 1:36:01Speaker 10: it to didn't look at the bucket on the bottom
- 1:36:04Speaker 10: of the boat for three hours.
- 1:36:05Speaker 5: So what's on what's on the doka today?
- 1:36:08Speaker 10: Well, I think it's a low key day here, just
- 1:36:11Speaker 10: kind of checking out some some beaches. I don't know.
- 1:36:13Speaker 10: We don't really have anything planned today. It was just
- 1:36:15Speaker 10: kind of nice. But yeah, we we we kind of
- 1:36:18Speaker 10: yesterday it was a big planning day. So now it's
- 1:36:21Speaker 10: been nice. I can't I can't believe I've been gone
- 1:36:22Speaker 10: a week, but it feels like I've been gone a month.
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: It just feels like a day or two for us.
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: I gotta tell you today it was the first day
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: I missed you, and that was only because I had
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: a host.
- 1:36:32Speaker 10: I was gonna say, PAULI, that's what what I figured
- 1:36:35Speaker 10: when I called in, I heard I didn't hear the
- 1:36:37Speaker 10: magical tone of thread there.
- 1:36:39Speaker 5: Yeah, no, Fred, we made tease come down. But uh,
- 1:36:42Speaker 5: you know, we've actually, uh I have to give us
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: a little bit of credit because I think we went
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: a whole hour plus just really all football.
- 1:36:50Speaker 4: We haven't even talked about traffic yet or anything that's
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: coming though. Do give me give me a high and
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: low so far of your of your vacation.
- 1:37:00Speaker 10: Oh all right, that's a good one. Well, I would
- 1:37:02Speaker 10: probably say the low was my oldest son, Tyson, unfortunately
- 1:37:05Speaker 10: being one of the people that got a little se
- 1:37:07Speaker 10: stack yesterday.
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: So that was I knew you. I knew that with
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: that to be involved at some point. Uh you know
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: what I'm talking about.
- 1:37:14Speaker 10: Both the kids had some struggles on the plane and
- 1:37:17Speaker 10: you know, so it's just spent a little bit of
- 1:37:19Speaker 10: a battle with all the travel we've been doing for them.
- 1:37:22Speaker 10: But uh, but I just did a high point was
- 1:37:24Speaker 10: like just finally getting here and we got off the
- 1:37:26Speaker 10: boat and we went to we went to just an
- 1:37:28Speaker 10: awesome launch and you know, just overlooking the water, and
- 1:37:30Speaker 10: I mean it's just it's you know, it's a long
- 1:37:32Speaker 10: flight to get to LA It's a long flight to
- 1:37:34Speaker 10: get here. So when you finally got here, it was
- 1:37:36Speaker 10: kind of nice. So yeah, we settled in. I'm I'm
- 1:37:39Speaker 10: standing here looking out upon the Pacific Ocean right now.
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: So now I'm gonna enjoy mine.
- 1:37:46Speaker 10: I look forward to getting back and Paul, I'm glad
- 1:37:48Speaker 10: to see you're on on that critical email to uh,
- 1:37:51Speaker 10: you know, get some some evergreen moments for the for
- 1:37:54Speaker 10: the team and you know, when the work doesn't stop here.
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I bought that guy didn't notice how you like
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: just sort of separated from me on the first On
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: the first one, I was like, we we did all
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: we talked about all these things, and then he just
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: sends out an email like what what? What what happened was?
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: So I ended up But believe I pulled that together
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: for you, So don't worry about it. I didn't. Uh,
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: I didn't cut you loose like you did me.
- 1:38:16Speaker 10: I want to get the ball roll and I knew
- 1:38:17Speaker 10: I could count on you.
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: We got that meeting coming up at two, so yeah,
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: you won't be there, so we got that to look
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: forward to, which is not not entirely nice.
- 1:38:28Speaker 10: So keep me posted, all right, So before.
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: We let you go, douce DeAndre Hopkins, they signed him
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: or not?
- 1:38:34Speaker 7: Did they?
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: No?
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: Will they they?
- 1:38:36Speaker 10: Oh? I started pulling Eric there as if I had
- 1:38:40Speaker 10: nothing ida. I don't know, guys, I'm starting to feel
- 1:38:43Speaker 10: like it's a note for me dogs, but I don't know.
- 1:38:45Speaker 10: I felt positive going on. I haven't really put much
- 1:38:47Speaker 10: thought into eleven out here. I've been trying to get away,
- 1:38:49Speaker 10: but I'm gonna say right now, I'm feeling like they're
- 1:38:50Speaker 10: gonna roll what they got.
- 1:38:52Speaker 7: Oh.
- 1:38:53Speaker 5: Oh okay, Well, I do still watch the news. All right,
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: du get back, go back to your sin with funds
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: and uh and enjoy enjoy the rest of your trip.
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: Thank you, I help you go to a lou au.
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: Deuce, what are you back?
- 1:39:09Speaker 13: How dare you?
- 1:39:10Speaker 10: I'll be back on the show next Thursday. So you
- 1:39:12Speaker 10: got you got this, uh West Thursday show, and I'm
- 1:39:14Speaker 10: back for the next one.
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: Oh, that's right, because we don't have a show next Tuesday.
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: Fred doesn't. Fred's not going to make me do a
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: show in the.
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: Fourth right, that's a company holiday.
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: Okay, all right, Deuce, thanks for choting me. Yeah, I
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: wish I could say the same anyway. Uh, why don't
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: we just move right along to Aaron in Kentucky? Aaron
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: in Kentucky? Is that a new caller?
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: No?
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: Is he call all the time? Aaron? Hey? What's going on?
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: All right?
- 1:39:46Speaker 10: I got it?
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: All right? Why did you call us right back eron?
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: Obviously your your cell was in a bad spot there.
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: But uh, despite Deuce's uh trials and tribul on really watch.
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: Really positive attitude, I knew he was.
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: I knew he was making fun of one of his kids,
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: because it's all he ever does. I knew, I knew
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: for sure that one of his kids was involved in that.
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: Dolphins not high on my list of animals that not
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: that I like.
- 1:40:14Speaker 5: They really, who doesn't like dolphins? Well google Evan Lazar.
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: Google it.
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: You never went to the Bahamas, just the dolphins.
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: I did that actually in Mexico when I was a kid.
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: There's a picture of it somewhere in.
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: The Lazar household. Yeah.
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: I always thought dolphins protected humans, like in the in
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: the like they steer like divers away from trouble.
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: Dolphins, especially male dolphins, not not safe for air. Google
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: it really yep?
- 1:40:41Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, all right, but I'm not going to google it,
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: but I'm going to ask him as soon as the show.
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: But it's cool to I mean, you know, you go
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: on one of those things like whill watches dolphins.
- 1:40:52Speaker 5: You're not a whille watch.
- 1:40:53Speaker 4: You're not one hundred percent guaranteed to see anything. The
- 1:40:56Speaker 4: fact that it sounds like Deuce might have seen some stuff,
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: yeah cool.
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: I did. I went on a watch and it was fun.
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: It was when we saw like a couple of whales.
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: And long they're way too long.
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: Yeah. Well, I'm not a huge ocean guy, you know.
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: I mean, stuff that's just ocean scary as hell.
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: I don't go well.
- 1:41:11Speaker 5: Now you get these stories about the orcers are like
- 1:41:14Speaker 5: intentionally attacking boats.
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: All those swimming. But I'm not going past the break.
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: Oh no, I'm not. I don't do the ocean.
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: My toes need to touch the ground.
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: I don't do the ocean, especially around here. I mean,
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: like how many every summer there's a shark off the
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: cape or something like that. I don't do the ocean.
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: Every year around this time you get that overhead shot
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: off one of the beaches down the cape and you see, like,
- 1:41:33Speaker 5: you know, Tea so out there not his feet are
- 1:41:36Speaker 5: touching the ground, and it's like a great white like
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: two feet away that he has no idea about the
- 1:41:41Speaker 5: gaddle board.
- 1:41:42Speaker 3: The seals are like right up on the beach now
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: because like the sharks are twenty feet.
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: But I would not be in the water if I
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: saw a seal, right, because I know why the seals
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: are there.
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: Oh yeah, So the in the Caribbean, the ocean is
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: so clear, yeah that you can see everything. So I'm
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: a little bit more okay with that. But around here,
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: like in the Pacific, you know, West Coast, Hawaii, La,
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: Like I don't I do pools.
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: I forget what the distance was. But my wife, you know,
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: before she met me, and she actually had a life.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: She had gone scuba diving and stuff and she was
- 1:42:17Speaker 5: certified to do that and she used to do it
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: all the time up here.
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: Yeah, and then she was down in the Caribbean and
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: they canceled the dive because the visibility was like only
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: fifty feet or or one hundred feet some kind I
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: don't know the numbers, so like, don't call me a
- 1:42:34Speaker 4: fraud for making up I don't know what the actual
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: number was. But she was like, you know, we we
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: dive all the time, you know, and it's like, you know,
- 1:42:41Speaker 4: less than fifty feet.
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: In like Rockport. And the guy was like, yeah, if
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: there's a great white within one hundred feet of you,
- 1:42:49Speaker 5: you want to know. Yeah, And they were like, okay,
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: well that's good enough because like at the time, you
- 1:42:55Speaker 5: didn't have to worry about that right here, right on
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: the north shore if he went cold, but it was
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: so cloudy and murky, but you didn't have to worry.
- 1:43:02Speaker 3: About sharks on the cap. On the cape, they have
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: the biplanes going by for the shark sightings. We saw
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: him go by last summer and then uh, my friend
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: was like, you're gonna be called out of the water
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: in ten minutes, and lifeguard sure enough called everybody out
- 1:43:14Speaker 3: because the shark was tagged and they caught him on
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: they knew where he was. And then another happened twice
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: last summer. Another time the plane spotted it and he
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: wasn't tagged, so then the boats came up and tagged it.
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: So scary stuff.
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: He's not like Zoe, do you have to listen to
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: Zoe talk about it on Beetle With Beetle itself, he's
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: like infatuated with the shark attack.
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: It's yeah, because that's I know what you're talking about
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: every summer. I'm telling you, I just but I don't
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: stuff in your own time.
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: I don't just you know, we goify the coast Guard.
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: We go in the vineyard and you know there's the
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: Jaws Bridge right which is like the actual bridge that
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: they shot the scenes at, and and people just are
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: swimming like right by it. You know, they're jumping off
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: the Jaws Bridge into the ocean right there. I'm like,
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: did you not see the movie?
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: Like this is like this is you can't pretend that
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: you saw the movie. It doesn't hold up. We know
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: your feelings on the movie that this movie.
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: So you know you scroll on on like my videos
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: on Facebook and stuff like that, and uh, and the
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: scene where they first like interact with the shark and
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: it like attacks the boat and everything like that comes
- 1:44:18Speaker 4: up and I'm just like, stand by it. Stand by
- 1:44:21Speaker 4: what I said, like and like the wife calls, right, oh,
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: we'll be we'll be in in a minute, honey, or
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: something like that, like come on, like this is no
- 1:44:28Speaker 4: doesn't hold up.
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: I hate sharks, just scare as hell.
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: I was listen. I was young when I saw Jaws
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: for the first time. I was probably too young to see.
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: Jaws where you like it.
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: I it's a nostalgic movie. It has its place in history.
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: I understand, like your technical from the technical words that
- 1:44:50Speaker 5: you say doesn't hold up. Yes, it was made in
- 1:44:53Speaker 5: the mid seventies, right, And there's a lot of mid
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: seventies ish things, So I understand what you're talking. But
- 1:44:59Speaker 5: like to say that like the movie itself isn't great, like.
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: Oh no, it's a great piece of cinema history.
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: It's a great movie.
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: It's a great story. It's a great movie. Like I mean,
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: I'm I'm obsessed with the movie, you know, with with
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: Mike and Hardy and I spend way too much. I'm
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: sure that people will complain about the amount of time
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: that we spend talking about it on pregame shows, but
- 1:45:30Speaker 5: it to know the story behind the scenes of like
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: they couldn't get the Shark to work. They did all
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: the work with the shark, the mechanical shock in a pool,
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: and when they put it in the ocean, the salt
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: water constant to mouth. It couldn't it wouldn't work. So
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: that was why Spielberg chose to show the Shark so infrequently,
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: because they had no choice. It didn't work, so they
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: had a sort of shoot around it. And it ended
- 1:45:56Speaker 5: up to me being like one of the best parts
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: of the movie is suspend you were right of this
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: thing that you could only feel. You couldn't see it
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: until you know Chief is throwing the chum in the
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: water and yeah, you're gonna need to rig a boat,
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: like that's the first time you see the Shark.
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: I will admit that changed.
- 1:46:12Speaker 14: Horror Friday the thirteenth was based off that, right.
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: I will admit say say no, no, no, I'm gonna
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: say something nice about Jaws. I will admit that the
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: suspense that they that they build up, the tension that
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: they build up, is still to this day maybe the
- 1:46:28Speaker 4: most tense movie that that you ever watched.
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: But the shark just kept ramming itself into the boat
- 1:46:34Speaker 5: and it sunk the boat. Yeah it was awesome.
- 1:46:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it was very tense movie. I give you that.
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: I'll give you that.
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: You're not going to the ocean. You're not going to
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: the ocean the summer.
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: No, I'm not going now.
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: I'm with him on that out. I have not been
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: a big fan of the ocean because of that. And
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: I'm not lying. I saw that movie when I was
- 1:46:52Speaker 5: probably like eight years old, down the cape and I
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: did not go in the ocean the rest.
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: Of the.
- 1:47:00Speaker 3: Visiting my friend at the vineyard. It was during Shark week,
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: watched Jaws, and I got caught in a rip tide.
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: That was oh god, that was that was awful.
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: Then go in the water.
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: A lot of people getting caught in rip tides doesn't
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: end well. You have to get rescued.
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: I just let it take you out.
- 1:47:12Speaker 4: Swim sideways, swim sideways, you do.
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's what they tell your swim parallel to
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: the shore.
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: I was fine, So you're out of the rip TI, Yeah,
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: I was fine. It was water just kind of like
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: in the back of my head, I was just shook
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: about it being Shark week and I'm on the vineyard like,
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: come on.
- 1:47:29Speaker 4: Hey, look it's the Jaws Bridge. You know what we
- 1:47:31Speaker 4: should do? Swim Like, no, it's terrible idea.
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: You got you got marine corps cracking up.
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: It's horrible, like when we do it.
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not. Yeah, like I said, I so when
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: will Will was like four or five years old, and
- 1:47:45Speaker 5: you know Jaws is on like four thousand times you
- 1:47:48Speaker 5: know TNT well, but you can see it or anything.
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: It was on one of the movie channels and it's
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: Showshank Redemption to me that The Godfather. There's ten twelve
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: movies that I get Showshanked. If I put it on
- 1:48:02Speaker 5: and it's on, I'm in and I can't stop. Jos
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: is one of them.
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: I think is better than Shashank just for that.
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: Well, Josh is much better than show Yeah, Josh, thanks
- 1:48:10Speaker 5: great though, But yeah, it's so it's on and I'm
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: you know with like I think my wife was at work,
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: I got the kids and like I said, Will was
- 1:48:19Speaker 5: only like four five years old, like far too young
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: to be watching that, right, So we're watching it, and
- 1:48:24Speaker 5: now he's into it, and you know, like you know
- 1:48:26Speaker 5: enough about my son without really even knowing him, how
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: talkative and inquisitive he is. So he's like asking me
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: all kinds of questions. And now it's getting to the
- 1:48:33Speaker 5: point where the boat's going down and Quinn's gonna go right,
- 1:48:38Speaker 5: so you.
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: Know, Quinn dies what So so I'm.
- 1:48:41Speaker 5: A spoiler alert. So I'm like, we're playing with legos
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: or something, and I'm like, I distract him. And while
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: I distract him doing something, I changed the channel so
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: he doesn't see them, and it's you know, he's a kid.
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: So like it was ten minutes later before he realized.
- 1:48:57Speaker 5: I go back and like the credits are rolling right,
- 1:48:59Speaker 5: so it's over, and he's like, well, did did what happened?
- 1:49:02Speaker 5: I go, well, no, they ended up. You know you
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: remember that that that gas tank that they had, you
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: know for the air the chief shot it and the
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: shark blew apart and that was the end of the movie.
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: And that's what I told him. So like fast forward,
- 1:49:15Speaker 5: like three weeks later, he somehow stumbled upon it on
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: his own, because again, you know when they're on the
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: movie channels, they're constantly on that channel. He saw it
- 1:49:25Speaker 5: on his own. You lied to.
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: He got eaten by the shot.
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: I was pissed. He was so pissed. And Beth is
- 1:49:33Speaker 5: just looking at me like he let.
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: Him watch jobs four year old son John's.
- 1:49:38Speaker 5: And again I say this often when I tell stories
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: about the way Beth looks at me. It's not the
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: only time I get that look frequently, Like you did what? Yeah?
- 1:49:48Speaker 7: So uh?
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: Will was probably like four when he saw Quint get
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: eaten by the shock?
- 1:49:52Speaker 3: Did it not freak him out?
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: But he's he's a big horror loves the horror movies.
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: See, I'm not a horror movie guy.
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: I hate him.
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: We we all saw Jos's too young like that. Everybody
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: has their.
- 1:50:03Speaker 5: Story like this, Like I'm not big on the gore right,
- 1:50:07Speaker 5: Like Friday the thirteenth, when I saw that to use mats,
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: like I literally I saw that like three houses down
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: from me in the middle of the day. I ran
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: home from that kid's house as fast as I've ever
- 1:50:20Speaker 5: run in my life.
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: Is that someone's with what's his name, right, Jason Jason. Okay,
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: so I the hockey Mask. What's the one with.
- 1:50:27Speaker 14: You ran home because of the new Paul, Let's not
- 1:50:29Speaker 14: play it.
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: That's just that's just that's just silly. Now you're being silly.
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: That was one of those like everybody went like everybody
- 1:50:40Speaker 5: did that like forever, just to try to freak you out.
- 1:50:43Speaker 4: What's the one with Jamielyn Curtis? What that's Halloween? Right? So,
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: my my sister's husband's a big core movie guy, and
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: we watched that in a cabin in Vermont on his
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: bachelor party weekend. So you're in this cabin in Vermont
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: that's not for me, in the middle of the woods,
- 1:51:04Speaker 4: and you're watching a movie about a guy that's out
- 1:51:06Speaker 4: of the cabin in the woods. Without watching what Right,
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: I slept with the lights on. I was terrified. I
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: was like, oh my goodness, this is like, I'm so
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: bad with horror movies. I can't do it. Jack and
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: in Arbor though, he says that Shawshank is much better
- 1:51:20Speaker 4: than Jaws, and he said it's not even close.
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: Shank's great. I love sho It's not Joss, but it's
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: a great movie.
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: It's good.
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: It's a great movie, which you think, what say you
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: fussy briches?
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: Which one's on more TV?
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: Like I think is on constantly.
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: I actually met somebody like a year ago that I
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: had never seen, Shoshank, and I didn't believe him. I
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: didn't believe.
- 1:51:42Speaker 3: Because I think it awes you. I've never seen The Godfather.
- 1:51:45Speaker 5: I'll still let you be friends with me.
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: The Godfather is great if you like, I watched The
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: Godfather for the first time when I was like sick,
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: like home with the floor or something like that. No, No,
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: I was like sixteen and I got the flu and
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: I had to stay home from school and I'd just watch, like,
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: you know, it's because it's four hours, so like you're
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: just a great like you know, one of those types
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: of it's you gotta watch it.
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: That's I just like, it's four hours, but.
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: It's it's long, but it's worth it.
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: You don't it doesn't feel like four hours exact good,
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: I'll give it.
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, like you get like this would have been
- 1:52:17Speaker 5: a perfect time because it's been raining every day, especially
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: on the weekends. You can veg out and watch that.
- 1:52:22Speaker 7: Well.
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: I finished Anatomy, so one two.
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: I can't believe that you went out of your way
- 1:52:27Speaker 5: to watch. Like, I'm not saying I'm not making it.
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: Everybody listening knows that I'm not making fun of the
- 1:52:32Speaker 5: fact that he watched Great's anatomy, but to go out
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: of your way to stream.
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: It it was successive. Yeah.
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: I watched it so long that there was a character
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: named Matisa. That's how long it's been. They ran out
- 1:52:44Speaker 3: of names.
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: All right, let's get back to the phone. So Andrew
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: in La will probably be our last caller of the show. Andrew, Hey,
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: what's up boys doing?
- 1:52:55Speaker 8: Yeah, John's is a fantastic movie, especially without scene with
- 1:52:59Speaker 8: Quinn on the boat when he's talking about the sub
- 1:53:01Speaker 8: going down or the show. Yeah, that's like my favorite scene.
- 1:53:09Speaker 8: And and I think in like the behind the scenes thing,
- 1:53:13Speaker 8: the the other actors were like blown away by his performance.
- 1:53:18Speaker 5: And I think I think he was. I think he
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: did that in one take, and I think he was drunk,
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: which was a rob staple at the time, evidently.
- 1:53:28Speaker 8: Right, Yeah, that was part of his calling card. Yeah,
- 1:53:30Speaker 8: so that's just a fantastic moves. But speaking of sharks
- 1:53:34Speaker 8: and being in Hawaii, so me and my me and
- 1:53:37Speaker 8: my wife are going to go there in the in
- 1:53:38Speaker 8: the in September for our anniversary and she's like, oh,
- 1:53:42Speaker 8: let's do a shark dive there. And I'm like, well, okay,
- 1:53:45Speaker 8: like that sounds cool. It's probably not that crazy. And
- 1:53:49Speaker 8: I'm like, it's not like they're chumming the waters to
- 1:53:51Speaker 8: get the sharks there, right, And she's like, no, they're
- 1:53:53Speaker 8: chumming the waters. I'm like, oh, okay, well, it's probably
- 1:53:56Speaker 8: not like they're crazy big sharks where they're doing that,
- 1:53:59Speaker 8: and she's like, yeah, probably not. It's probably just like
- 1:54:02Speaker 8: some stand sharks. And I look it up and it's like,
- 1:54:04Speaker 8: oh yeah, bull sharks and like tiger sharks around there.
- 1:54:07Speaker 8: I'm like, uh, well, at least it's probably a cage.
- 1:54:09Speaker 8: It's like, no, it's free diving. And I'm like, I
- 1:54:12Speaker 8: I've seen jaws. I don't think I really want to
- 1:54:14Speaker 8: go with there.
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm with you, Andrew, no no interest in that.
- 1:54:18Speaker 5: That doesn't doesn't excite me in any way.
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: None of that three thrill seeking stuff really does it
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: for me. Just doesn't live.
- 1:54:26Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:54:27Speaker 5: I'm gonna be I'm gonna channel my inner Evan. I'm
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: just saying I got some film to watch.
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: I'll break up that that is I'm gonna break down
- 1:54:34Speaker 4: the All twenty two that is, did you ever did
- 1:54:37Speaker 4: you hear the big news about the All twenty two? No,
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: they're now going to give us four angles instead of
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: just two possibilities. So really the big one, the big
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: one is the wide end zone angle. So now you're
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: gonna get the ALL eleven from the end zone instead
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: of just the offensive line, you get the whole wide
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: angle of the end zone, which is really, really.
- 1:54:59Speaker 5: And really I think that's what we've all been clamoring fourties, right.
- 1:55:03Speaker 3: I'm a big All twenty two guy, you know.
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: So NFL teams have always had this, like they've always
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: had it this way, but obviously the public does not.
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: So the public is now going to have access to
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: the wide end zone angle, which gets me Andrew on
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: d hop.
- 1:55:22Speaker 8: I think that it's like time to kind of put
- 1:55:24Speaker 8: up or shut up with Mac. So I think that
- 1:55:26Speaker 8: that would be probably the best option for the team
- 1:55:29Speaker 8: going forward, because if it's not going to happen with Hopkins,
- 1:55:33Speaker 8: then it's not going to happen because it's not like
- 1:55:36Speaker 8: you're just gonna You're not going to have a Tyree
- 1:55:38Speaker 8: Killer and a J Brown volunteer lap. So it's best
- 1:55:40Speaker 8: to just get the best asset on the market and
- 1:55:42Speaker 8: just put them into the system and see if mac
- 1:55:44Speaker 8: can actually play quarterback at a at a top ten level.
- 1:55:49Speaker 8: That would be my opinion on it.
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: I don't know about you, guys.
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: No, I think we're all in agreement. We're all in agreement.
- 1:55:55Speaker 8: Yeah, you got to get a segment on felgrim Mas
- 1:55:58Speaker 8: with on Celtic talked about talk. That was fantastic. Lastly,
- 1:56:02Speaker 8: you you really missed your colin with being a basketball analyst.
- 1:56:08Speaker 5: I think a lot of people would disagree with you.
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: People do not Some people really don't like it when
- 1:56:12Speaker 4: we talk Celtics in THEO.
- 1:56:14Speaker 5: They don't. And uh, you know, the the Marcus Smart thing. Yeah,
- 1:56:19Speaker 5: I'll tell you it. Teas are my colleagues on the
- 1:56:23Speaker 5: Patriots beat. We are all Woodwood and Bernstein by comparison
- 1:56:27Speaker 5: to the Celtics. Oh my god. The amount of people
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: who had restless nights in the aftermath of the Marcus
- 1:56:36Speaker 5: Smart trade astounded me that that a grown adult would
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: say something like that.
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: Someone said that, oh god.
- 1:56:43Speaker 5: Oh, like like I've really had trouble with this. I
- 1:56:47Speaker 5: had trouble with this all night. I like, the dynamic
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: of the team is chance Like, it's unbelievable.
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: The more that the.
- 1:56:56Speaker 5: More you would have thought Brady, you thought it was
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: like when Brady left.
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: The more time that has passed since the trade, I
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: the more I think that this is like one of
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: those I'm trying to think of a Patriots comparison, and
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: I can maybe you can help, like one of those
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: times when the leadership, like the voice in the locker
- 1:57:15Speaker 4: room needed to change, Like the leadership needed to change,
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: and the only way for that shake up to happen
- 1:57:21Speaker 4: was to take Marcus Smart's voice out of the locker room,
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: so that hopefully the Jays now take over the mantle
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: of the leadership and run with it.
- 1:57:31Speaker 8: Lawyer malloy is the only thing I could think of.
- 1:57:34Speaker 5: Yeah, that's not a bad one. Yeah that's not a
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: bad one.
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: Except lawyer actually won a championship, So oh wow, Shade.
- 1:57:41Speaker 5: And I'm the one that always takes the shots at
- 1:57:42Speaker 5: poor Marcus. Uh. And the one thing that I did say,
- 1:57:46Speaker 5: like I was talking to someone over the weekend about Smart,
- 1:57:48Speaker 5: like by all accounts a fantastic guy. Yeah, like does
- 1:57:51Speaker 5: tons for charity in the hospitals with children the camps.
- 1:57:56Speaker 3: He'll be back eventually too, I think, well, I.
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: Think he's already did like his own camp. Like so,
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: I don't have anything bad to say about the person.
- 1:58:03Speaker 4: No, I just didn't really enjoy watching him play basketball.
- 1:58:08Speaker 8: Did you see the article from Kozie?
- 1:58:10Speaker 5: I did Bob Coozy was that was very funny? Actually,
- 1:58:14Speaker 5: did you see those comments?
- 1:58:15Speaker 4: I saw some of them. I don't know, Like so
- 1:58:17Speaker 4: I've I've talked to some people.
- 1:58:18Speaker 5: I take it in general, and evidently Coozy hates all
- 1:58:23Speaker 5: all quote unquote point guards. He doesn't like any.
- 1:58:25Speaker 4: Of them well because they don't really play point guard
- 1:58:28Speaker 4: anymore the way he wants them to write. I don't know,
- 1:58:30Speaker 4: Like I love Bob Coozy for what I know of
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: Bob Kozy. I'm not gonna I'm thirty years old. I'm
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: not going to sit here and act like I saw
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: Bob Coosey play.
- 1:58:37Speaker 5: Basketball, but I didn't even come close to But.
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: At the same time, it's like, do I really care
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: about ninety five year old Bob Coosey's opinion on a
- 1:58:46Speaker 4: Celtics trade, Like, I don't know, it doesn't regardless if
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: it was a positive or negative take, I'm not sure
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: it was really needed that.
- 1:58:54Speaker 5: It was both he was he was kind of positive
- 1:58:56Speaker 5: on Smart and he was kind of negative on Smart,
- 1:58:59Speaker 5: like with the point guard thing. But I had uh
- 1:59:02Speaker 5: listening to Michael Holly talk about it a little bit
- 1:59:03Speaker 5: last night on one of one of my shows, and
- 1:59:07Speaker 5: he was saying, like he remembers talking to Coozie when
- 1:59:09Speaker 5: he was covering Celtics and he hated all point guards.
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: Yeah, well there's the actual Bob Coosey point guard like
- 1:59:17Speaker 4: doesn't exist anymore in the NBA.
- 1:59:19Speaker 5: Chris Paul is like the closest thing. Yeah, that's what
- 1:59:23Speaker 5: they were talking about on that show.
- 1:59:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and even he like doesn't really play anymore.
- 1:59:27Speaker 5: So yeah, yeah, all right, Andrew, enjoy your your holiday weekend.
- 1:59:34Speaker 5: Uh yeah, we're wrapping up here today. Any any plans
- 1:59:39Speaker 5: for the fourth before we put a bowl on.
- 1:59:41Speaker 4: I think I'm fit in the fourth with with Barth,
- 1:59:43Speaker 4: with my other half down and I really do do
- 1:59:47Speaker 4: everything together, really do which the fourth is one day
- 1:59:50Speaker 4: we are but we are here on Thursday.
- 1:59:52Speaker 5: We'll do it again on Thursday. At the very minimum,
