- 2:08Speaker 3: see you on this voyage sponsored by Virgin Forages and
- 2:12Speaker 3: the other podcasts are going to be there.
- 2:13Speaker 1: By the way, it's gonna be really.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Fun now with all of that talking about adulting, which
- 2:18Speaker 2: going on this voyage would be very adulting of me
- 2:21Speaker 2: because I've never been before. But besides all that, something
- 2:24Speaker 2: that I have been doing. And just as an update,
- 2:27Speaker 2: because last year, I'll let y'all know about my gardening. Okay,
- 2:32Speaker 2: it is twenty twenty six. It is that time of year,
- 2:35Speaker 2: and all of the little stores that I've been going
- 2:38Speaker 2: to have their plants because I don't like seeds. I
- 2:43Speaker 2: feel like that's just setting me up to fail because
- 2:45Speaker 2: of my impatience. So I do start off with the
- 2:48Speaker 2: starter plants, so they are out and about. So now
- 2:51Speaker 2: I have officially like five to six tomato plants, different types,
- 2:55Speaker 2: and five to six different types of peppers, including some
- 2:59Speaker 2: Korean peppers. Two gives chives, which by the way, are
- 3:03Speaker 2: very delicate. And I was not ready for a lot
- 3:05Speaker 2: of herbs because we got regano, time basil, sage, and
- 3:11Speaker 2: rosemary of course, and I've.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Even got the purple basil.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I'm very excited about that.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'm going to propagate those because I'm really excited about this.
- 3:18Speaker 2: So we have a lot of gardening stuff happening. And
- 3:21Speaker 2: one of the things that I do with my plants,
- 3:23Speaker 2: which maybe it need to be a study in itself,
- 3:27Speaker 2: but this is not what we're talking about specifically, is
- 3:29Speaker 2: that I talk to my plants.
- 3:31Speaker 4: I have named my.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Plants as well, and they have a personification like I do.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I do give them names. I have one very beautiful
- 3:39Speaker 2: like hanging dan plant, which is not doing great right
- 3:41Speaker 2: now I'm not very happy about that, but that's a
- 3:43Speaker 2: different story named Priscilla because I believe that's the type
- 3:47Speaker 2: of planet. It is not Priscilla, but it starts with
- 3:49Speaker 2: the peace. So obviously I have to sure alliteration. The
- 3:53Speaker 2: literation is very important. I did that with my basils.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Uh huh.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I had to give them names. I have two. It's
- 4:00Speaker 4: too much now.
- 4:02Speaker 2: But the other thing that I do, as I've personified
- 4:04Speaker 2: my plants, in my vegetables, in my herbs, I talk
- 4:09Speaker 2: to them. So you know, there's a lot of studies
- 4:12Speaker 2: we talked about already the fact that gardening is really
- 4:15Speaker 2: good for you, and there's so many conversations about how
- 4:17Speaker 2: it helps your mental health, physical health, gets you vitamin D,
- 4:20Speaker 2: all of those things, and it's able to give you
- 4:24Speaker 2: a little bit of a stress relief in a very stressful.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Time, very stressful time.
- 4:31Speaker 2: So with that, I've been talking to them and I
- 4:34Speaker 2: was like, how true is it that talking to your
- 4:37Speaker 2: garden or talking to your plants do help. Funny enough,
- 4:41Speaker 2: there are articles that one that was released in twenty
- 4:44Speaker 2: twenty four from the Spruce that's based on the Royal
- 4:48Speaker 2: Horticulture Society studies about this and interestingly, this is what
- 4:54Speaker 2: they said. In a study performed by the Royal Horticulture Society,
- 4:58Speaker 2: researchers discovered that talking to your plants really can help
- 5:02Speaker 2: them grow faster. They also found that the plants grow
- 5:08Speaker 2: faster to the sound of a female voice than to
- 5:11Speaker 2: the sound of a male voice. Other studies have experimented
- 5:15Speaker 2: with different sound levels and even the kinds of things
- 5:18Speaker 2: that are set to plants. Now, I'd say with all
- 5:22Speaker 2: of that, the most interesting fact is that a woman's
- 5:25Speaker 2: voice seems to really help more so than a man's voice.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Also recently discovered, and I don't know how true this is.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I saw this as a video and I have been
- 5:37Speaker 2: dramatized by it. Tomato plants and some other plants actually
- 5:40Speaker 2: scream when they are picked one or if they're not
- 5:47Speaker 2: getting what they need.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I mean, ultimately you're probably gonna eat them.
- 5:55Speaker 4: So it's true. It's true.
- 5:58Speaker 2: It is because they are delicious, but there's this level
- 6:01Speaker 2: of like the high frequencies because they're studying it to
- 6:04Speaker 2: see how better to care for these plants. And what
- 6:07Speaker 2: they've discovered is when they are in need of water,
- 6:09Speaker 2: if they have too much water, if they have too
- 6:11Speaker 2: much sun all these things that they do have a
- 6:14Speaker 2: very high frequency scream that they emote.
- 6:18Speaker 4: I hate that. But also once they're picked, they scream.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Honestly, can't blame them for that.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Really, I'm fine, everything's fine. Going back to how the
- 6:40Speaker 2: talking to does actually help, they said that in this
- 6:46Speaker 2: study that they were surprised by the results that men's
- 6:51Speaker 2: voices were not as effective as women's. They talk about
- 6:56Speaker 2: that it could be related to the range or pitch
- 6:59Speaker 2: of a woman's and the tone that the sound waves
- 7:02Speaker 2: that hit the plant, and that sound like maybe a
- 7:06Speaker 2: part of the factor. Again, so I believe. In this
- 7:09Speaker 2: article they do talk about the fact that MythBusters had
- 7:13Speaker 2: the whole study, which, by the way, they did it
- 7:16Speaker 2: on pea plants. Did you ever experiment anything with pea plants?
- 7:21Speaker 2: And that's a weird question, but.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Uh no, But isn't that kind of the famous genetic example.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yes, and guess what, Yes, I did a pea plant
- 7:31Speaker 2: science fair project and one second place.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Nice.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I know, I don't remember what I did. Oh, it
- 7:38Speaker 2: was the types of light I did. That's what it
- 7:40Speaker 2: would Oh, it's coming back to me, y'all. I did
- 7:43Speaker 2: the types of light like artificial versus real lights, and
- 7:47Speaker 2: then like, how covered or how far away from lights?
- 7:50Speaker 4: I did? Can I tell you?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Because I hated science growing up, I'm not good at science.
- 7:56Speaker 2: That is the weakest part of my like untilal and
- 8:01Speaker 2: academic studies outside of chemistry and calculus.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Okay, so a.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Lot of numbers, a lot of numbers really bothered being.
- 8:10Speaker 2: I guess I don't know all of that to say.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I did not have science fair project, and I remember
- 8:16Speaker 2: just really struggling, and I guess I looked really upset.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I don't even know what grade this was. My teacher
- 8:21Speaker 2: I was like, what do you want? What's the problems?
- 8:22Speaker 2: I don't know what I want to do, and she's like, look,
- 8:24Speaker 2: we have these plants. They are pretty much put together
- 8:28Speaker 2: as a package of what you should do. Like I
- 8:30Speaker 2: didn't even come up with it is how to? And
- 8:32Speaker 2: she hated it to me, and I got a second place.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I feel kind of like cheating now, I don't think
- 8:36Speaker 2: about it.
- 8:39Speaker 3: I'm sure some of it was your original idea.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I had to do the data.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you collected the data.
- 8:46Speaker 2: And I had to grow it obviously, but it would
- 8:48Speaker 2: just stayed in the classroom and I would come in
- 8:51Speaker 2: and look at it and come back out whatever. If
- 8:53Speaker 2: I remember correctly, the natural lighting grew the most and
- 8:58Speaker 2: the tallest.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That makes sense.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it makes sense. This could be a lie because
- 9:03Speaker 4: it's been a long but so don't take that.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yeah, take that into a childhood men right, more than
- 9:12Speaker 2: anything helps. But yeah, MythBusters did a whole study on
- 9:15Speaker 2: it as well. They divided them up, playing records of
- 9:18Speaker 2: humans saying nice things and all these different things. They
- 9:20Speaker 2: also did some research about being mean.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Yeah. I watched that episode.
- 9:25Speaker 3: They liked the planets, that's yeah, and they found like
- 9:33Speaker 3: something was happening.
- 9:34Speaker 4: With the planets they're about to rebel.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yeah, well I think it's this screen you're talking about, like,
- 9:41Speaker 3: and they felt bad because no one was expecting it
- 9:44Speaker 3: to happen.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I remember they were like, oh my gosh.
- 9:48Speaker 4: For you were traumatized by that too.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yes, well, he was one interesting fact that the Spruce
- 9:54Speaker 2: did put on their record. They said, what happens when
- 9:57Speaker 2: you talk bad to a plant? And there was spot
- 10:00Speaker 2: There will be no effect on the planet. The plant
- 10:02Speaker 2: has no ability to recognize that you spoke negatively about it.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So I don't know they canna hear screams. I don't
- 10:09Speaker 2: know if I believe them completely.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Well, if it's tone based, then I feel like there
- 10:14Speaker 3: are questions we need to answers too. So if it's
- 10:17Speaker 3: tone based, then when you're angry and you're saying mean things,
- 10:20Speaker 3: your tone is different.
- 10:23Speaker 4: That's true.
- 10:24Speaker 2: There are several theories about why this has happened. This
- 10:29Speaker 2: is they This is what they write from Frizzlelandnursery dot
- 10:33Speaker 2: com f R I S E L l A N
- 10:38Speaker 2: just so you'll know. Of trying to say it, I'm like, oh,
- 10:40Speaker 2: what this is When they say this. Plants are influenced
- 10:43Speaker 2: by all of the environmental changes around them. Plants response
- 10:46Speaker 2: to the vibrations of nearby sound, which turns on to
- 10:49Speaker 2: on two keik genes inside of them that influence their growth.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Plants also increase photosynthesis production in response to carbon dioxide,
- 10:58Speaker 2: which is a byproduct of humans. So I guess I
- 11:00Speaker 2: need to be close to them. Whispering sweet nothings with
- 11:05Speaker 2: my carbon dioxide.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Doesn't sound strange at all.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And by the way, it's in the front of my house,
- 11:12Speaker 2: really close to the road, so I'm sure I'll look
- 11:14Speaker 2: really interesting if flowers start.
- 11:19Speaker 3: I know I've watered your plants before, and I felt
- 11:21Speaker 3: strange just about that.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, it's the okay plants.
- 11:27Speaker 4: It's gonna be okay. This is gonna be okay.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I do find it fascinating to watch these like also
- 11:34Speaker 2: like the disappointment what happens if your plants die? Because
- 11:37Speaker 2: right now I believe my two tomato plants, which are
- 11:40Speaker 2: the larger tomato plants, which we had to move from
- 11:43Speaker 2: one pot to another. The larger pot is going through
- 11:46Speaker 2: like transplant shock. I think, oh no, I'm.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Very sad about this because they've got some food on
- 11:52Speaker 4: it already. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, it's
- 11:54Speaker 4: gonna be okay.
- 11:56Speaker 2: The reason but we have it in pots, so it's
- 11:57Speaker 2: nice that we can move it out of the sun
- 11:59Speaker 2: because apparently I think it's getting too much sun because
- 12:01Speaker 2: again transplant shock. But at the same time, like I'm
- 12:05Speaker 2: gonna be very upset. Yeah, if this does not work out, I.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Would be too.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I've went like, y'all, I'm not good at with plants.
- 12:16Speaker 2: We've already talked about this, but having the success I
- 12:19Speaker 2: had last year really felt encouraging. So to have my
- 12:22Speaker 2: plans die this year, I'm gonna need more talk therapy
- 12:26Speaker 2: with y'all.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Yeah, that wouldn't be That wouldn't be an ideal time
- 12:32Speaker 3: for that to happen.
- 12:33Speaker 4: This is a really stressful year.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Any success, right and delicious tomatoes.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Delicious tomatoes.
- 12:42Speaker 2: So if y'all have any advice outside of talk nicely
- 12:45Speaker 2: to my plants, I would love that.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Yes, yes, we would love to hear from you listeners.
