• 0:49
  SPEAKER_03: Yes.
• 0:49
SPEAKER_03: Because I didn't know if we were gonna pretend like it's VBS week.
• 0:52
SPEAKER_03: That that we there's no way we could have shot this podcast with 750 children running these.
• 0:56
  SPEAKER_01: That's actually true.
• 0:57
SPEAKER_01: We couldn't have an executive decision we made to send you on vacation.
• 1:01

• 1:12
SPEAKER_01: I'll be up in the mountains.
• 1:13
SPEAKER_01: We have a little family uh trip planned, and uh I'm gonna be doing that.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'll be able to do that.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be waking up.
• 1:19
SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be waking up to 62 degrees every morning.
• 1:22
  SPEAKER_01: That's crazy.
• 1:23
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_03: Um, but we'll be here doing God's work.
• 1:27
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 1:27
SPEAKER_03: I mean, in case case you ever want to participate.
• 1:29
  SPEAKER_01: I'll be I'll be resting in God's presence.
• 1:32
  SPEAKER_01: How about that?
• 1:32
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, sure.
• 1:33
  SPEAKER_01: Isn't that a that's a kingdom rhythm, isn't it?
• 1:35
SPEAKER_01: It is it is a rhythm.
• 1:37
SPEAKER_01: I'm taking my pastoral advice to get some rest.
• 1:40
  SPEAKER_01: That's okay.
• 1:40
  SPEAKER_01: Right?
• 1:41
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll handle the 750 children, man.
• 1:43
  SPEAKER_01: We got that.
• 1:44
  SPEAKER_01: Y'all don't need me for that.
• 1:45
SPEAKER_01: We don't need you for that.
• 1:46
  SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
• 1:47
SPEAKER_01: I would just mess that up.
• 1:49
SPEAKER_01: Um, there was something random.
• 1:51
SPEAKER_01: So I was going through our episode uh analytics.
• 1:56
SPEAKER_01: I do that from time to time, do that all the time.
• 1:58
SPEAKER_01: But we are now can officially say we're an international podcast.
• 2:03
  SPEAKER_01: Really?
• 2:03
SPEAKER_01: We have a listener in Iceland.
• 2:06
SPEAKER_01: Yes, we have an so hello to you.
• 2:08
SPEAKER_01: We have a listener in Japan.
• 2:10
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 2:11
  SPEAKER_01: That doesn't surprise me.
• 2:12
  SPEAKER_01: Dominican Republic.
• 2:13
SPEAKER_03: Military folks end up there.
• 2:14
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 2:14
  SPEAKER_01: Dominican Republican.
• 2:15
SPEAKER_01: We have the United Kingdom represented.
• 2:17
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 2:18
SPEAKER_01: I mean, we are a global sensation.
• 2:20
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 2:21
  SPEAKER_01: That's that's amazing.
• 2:23
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 2:23
  SPEAKER_01: And and frightening.
• 2:24
  SPEAKER_01: For them.
• 2:25
  SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
• 2:26
SPEAKER_01: If there's if you're listening to this and you're in Iceland, I want to know how you found 100% maybe.
• 2:33
  unknown: Oh.
• 2:34
  SPEAKER_03: And listen, okay.
• 2:35
SPEAKER_03: You you didn't tell me anything about this.
• 2:37
  SPEAKER_03: No.
• 2:38
SPEAKER_03: I watch more reels about fly fishing in Iceland.
• 2:42
SPEAKER_03: Please, if you're in Iceland, yeah, please.
• 2:45
SPEAKER_03: I will, I will make my way to you somehow, some way.
• 2:50
SPEAKER_03: It's a it has made its way onto the bucket list.
• 2:53
  SPEAKER_03: Iceland.
• 2:54
  SPEAKER_03: Iceland, yeah.
• 2:55
SPEAKER_01: I I've seen nothing but beautiful pictures and videos from Iceland.
• 2:59
SPEAKER_03: Fish up there are insane.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_03: Fly fishing is is uh second to none.
• 3:04
SPEAKER_03: And I mean it's not, you know, you catch a rainbow trout in a river, it's awesome.
• 3:08
SPEAKER_03: You catch brown trout up there, uh they're just is it just the topography and geography of it all to make it like probably not overfished.
• 3:16
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know.
• 3:17
SPEAKER_03: Um and and the and just the natural resources and probably how they steward over that.
• 3:21
SPEAKER_03: But well, that is a squirrel we just chased right there.
• 3:24
SPEAKER_03: But I I did not know this was coming.
• 3:26
SPEAKER_03: So if emails yeah, uh send me a letter.
• 3:31
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we'd love we'll Jeff and I will shoot this podcast in Iceland.
• 3:36
SPEAKER_03: We would do that for we would do that for Jesus.
• 3:38
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we would.
• 3:39
  SPEAKER_01: We would.
• 3:40
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 3:40
SPEAKER_01: So anyway, just thought that's fun.
• 3:42
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 3:43
SPEAKER_01: Um, but the business at hand here.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_01: Yes, we're closing out our questions of Jesus series.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_01: We are give me overall just brief thoughts about how this series landed for you.
• 3:57
  SPEAKER_01: Any big takeaway?
• 3:58
SPEAKER_03: Um, it it felt just like how we kind of talked about it, that it was pretty random.
• 4:02
SPEAKER_03: Um, the questions rarely have anything to do with the answers.
• 4:06
SPEAKER_03: Um which which tells me even more that Jesus asked questions to make people think because the uh the initial answer is never the point.
• 4:16
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 4:17
SPEAKER_03: Um and and s and then the I maybe the most shocking thing to me is every time we would do a story we would study some scripture that had a question, you realize there's three other questions in there, all of which we could have studied and looked at.
• 4:31
SPEAKER_03: So um I I think using a question as an opportunity to learn, you know, as w whether in life or reading through scripture, it's just another another great way for us to process.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_03: I I people might say this this is how God speaks to me.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_03: I I see God in the sunset, or I maybe some people hear audible voice, maybe you just feel prompted.
• 4:53
SPEAKER_03: Jesus asks me questions, and they're usually questions like, how's that working out for you?
• 4:58
SPEAKER_03: I I hear that in whether it's in my head or in my heart so many times over, which which tells you I've already started doing something, and I'm not, I'm not a I'm not a person that just moves.
• 5:08
SPEAKER_03: So it takes me a while to get moving, but then there's the there's the question of how's that working out for you?
• 5:13
SPEAKER_03: Is there something different I should have done?
• 5:15
SPEAKER_03: Or you idiot, but like why are you why are you in this situation doing that?
• 5:18
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 5:19
  SPEAKER_03: That's the question.
• 5:20
SPEAKER_01: I get a lot is what are you doing?
• 5:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, where where are you?
• 5:24
SPEAKER_01: What is happening to you right now right now?
• 5:28
SPEAKER_01: But that I know we kind of jest around that, but that's a real that's a real deep thing that I think can drive you to really live out faith and to understand conviction of the Holy Spirit, maybe.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_01: Because I I do see that, and I I sit with a lot of people that are kind of new to faith and and you see like, well, just listen to the Holy Spirit, and they're like, What does that mean?
• 5:55
SPEAKER_01: What how do I do that?
• 5:57
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 5:57
SPEAKER_01: And so I think that's really good the more time you spend and the more I don't know, I hate to call it study.
• 6:04
SPEAKER_01: That sounds so Oh, I mean, a study.
• 6:06
  SPEAKER_03: You're learning.
• 6:10
SPEAKER_03: Last week, last week, about the nature of God.
• 6:13
SPEAKER_03: This one does have something to do with the nature of God and his power over the wind and the waves and over those things.
• 6:18
  SPEAKER_03: So so it's study.
• 6:19
SPEAKER_03: I mean, we're learning, learning about God, and then you take that study and you apply it to life.
• 6:24
  SPEAKER_03: I mean application.
• 6:25
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 6:25
  SPEAKER_03: Right?
• 6:26
SPEAKER_01: Study can't can't just be the study.
• 6:29
SPEAKER_01: It can't just be the I've learned some things, but it's truly the way that you implement them in life and practice and with others that it becomes something very, very real.
• 6:40
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 6:41
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 6:41
SPEAKER_03: So so back to that question that that I feel is is prompted in me all the time, the how's that working out for you?
• 6:49
SPEAKER_03: You get I apply that to every scenario, you know, uh, my children, their relationships, um, my wife, how I've responded into a into a scenario.
• 6:59
SPEAKER_03: So it's the it could be the presence of God, it could be just the way that I've built that in, the way that I remind myself that there is a that we're walking with a very real person of the Holy Spirit.
• 7:10
SPEAKER_03: Um, so you know, that that's that's the question that I get.
• 7:13
SPEAKER_03: So the fact that we're doing a series called questions, I don't know.
• 7:17
  SPEAKER_03: It's good.
• 7:17
SPEAKER_03: But what would what would Jesus ask you?
• 7:20
  SPEAKER_03: Well, would it, yeah.
• 7:20
  SPEAKER_03: That's a good thought.
• 7:22
SPEAKER_03: For some people it might be have have have you, you know, do you did you decide to love yourself today?
• 7:27
SPEAKER_03: Like, I mean, I mean, there they're maybe and maybe it is a direct correlation to the season you're in, the challenges you're you're walking through.
• 7:33
SPEAKER_03: And maybe you can prompt yourself to understand the nature of God and and and thus follow with with the questions that would be pertinent for your life.
• 7:40
SPEAKER_03: Uh I mean, those are those kind of a random thought, but but I I do think it it holds water for us as we think about God and how he would communicate with us.
• 7:48
SPEAKER_01: It's that deeper layer asking the question, either of yourself or you hear that that voice in your head that it it causes you to to think about what you truly believe or what you put your faith in.
• 8:01
SPEAKER_01: And I know we'll look at that in this passage, but it's easy to tell somebody, hey, do this, this, this.
• 8:06
SPEAKER_01: The second they go, why?
• 8:09
SPEAKER_01: And you have to actually have an answer for it.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're like, what do you mean?
• 8:13
SPEAKER_01: It can kind of cause you to be like, Wait, I I've never I've never thought about why you just do the things.
• 8:18
SPEAKER_01: And so those questions can interrupt our just uh rhythmic pattern of doing and really start to understand and unravel what what we're actually believing.
• 8:30
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 8:30
  SPEAKER_03: And so here's we're on a random trail.
• 8:33
SPEAKER_03: So much of our life is are are micro adjustments based on faith versus based on our own triggers or the based on we're thinking.
• 8:40
SPEAKER_03: Because because of human nature, the scenarios I've lived through in my life and the decisions that I've made, they're not gonna always work out the same way for you.
• 8:48
SPEAKER_03: So even if I counsel you and I say, you know, you should go do this, the moment you make that decision, you have a completely different set of variables.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_03: So if if you've not built a baseline or asked yourself those questions or considered how God feels about it, you know, then you don't you don't need you don't need me telling you that.
• 9:02
SPEAKER_03: You need to start building and processing, learning the nature of God, asking those questions, building so that we can move forward.
• 9:08
SPEAKER_03: Uh you know, as we think about the disciples on the Sea of Galilee in a storm, they only responded out of what they had and what they knew.
• 9:17
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 9:17
SPEAKER_03: And it didn't, I mean it it ended up being well for them, but it was pretty rough for a little while.
• 9:22
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 9:22
  SPEAKER_03: Let's dig into it.
• 9:24
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 9:25
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 9:25
SPEAKER_01: So this week we're in Matthew 14, right?
• 9:30
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, not Isaiah.
• 9:31
SPEAKER_01: Let me get to that again.
• 9:32
  SPEAKER_01: Not Isaiah.
• 9:33
SPEAKER_01: You want to get into Isaiah a little bit?
• 9:34
  SPEAKER_03: No, no, that's a different sermon.
• 9:37
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 9:37
SPEAKER_03: One that we would love to get, we will get into at some point.
• 9:40
  SPEAKER_01: So um 14, there's a lot happening.
• 9:43
SPEAKER_01: If you start at the beginning of that, Jesus finds out about the death of John the Baptist.
• 9:48
SPEAKER_01: Yep, that's a whole different sermon, too.
• 9:50
SPEAKER_01: That is, but it's but it but it plays right into where we're at.
• 9:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you have to put into context what is happening here.
• 9:56
SPEAKER_01: Straight from that, he goes to feeding the 5,000.
• 9:59
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 10:00
SPEAKER_01: As soon as he heard that news about John, he left.
• 10:04
SPEAKER_01: Wanted to be alone, crowds come.
• 10:06
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 10:07
SPEAKER_03: Keep in mind, so the setting is that uh he's he's in and around the northern part of the Sea of Galilee.
• 10:15
SPEAKER_03: We call it the Sea of Galilee.
• 10:16
  SPEAKER_03: It's a lake, it's a giant lake, seven miles across.
• 10:20
SPEAKER_03: We just did this measurement today, so that's why I know seven miles at its widest point, 14-ish miles from north to south.
• 10:27
SPEAKER_03: So it's a big lake, but even still, imagine you in the predominant mode of travel would have been either boat or walking or horse.
• 10:35
SPEAKER_03: So it wasn't you didn't jump in your car and drive over there.
• 10:38
SPEAKER_03: So as he was working around that northern rim of the Sea of Galilee, he hears about John the Baptist.
• 10:44
SPEAKER_03: There's no time as a normal family would to go mourn and to spend time because everybody's piling in to be healed.
• 10:50
SPEAKER_03: So they do that and then they move off to a place to be by themselves, and here they come, and then they get in a boat, and here they come.
• 10:55
SPEAKER_03: Everywhere they go, they are inundated with people.
• 10:58
SPEAKER_03: So it seems like what Matthew does is he starts to tell us the stories of what happens in between, or you start to you can start to focus on those transition points.
• 11:09
SPEAKER_03: So really our story, I cut you off, I'm sorry.
• 11:12
SPEAKER_03: Our our story is a transition from from the feeding the feeding of the 5,000 as they go over towards where Capernaum is to get on to the next the next part of of their ministry.
• 11:24
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 11:24
SPEAKER_03: But it's almost like get away from this crowd.
• 11:27
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 11:27
SPEAKER_03: Jesus goes on a mountain, he puts them in a boat.
• 11:30
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 11:31
SPEAKER_03: So you're going away to the mountains.
• 11:33
  SPEAKER_03: I am.
• 11:33
  SPEAKER_03: Not on a mountain.
• 11:34
  SPEAKER_03: They couldn't get away.
• 11:35
SPEAKER_03: And I suggest we load 750 kids and take them to you.
• 11:40
  SPEAKER_01: No?
• 11:40
  SPEAKER_01: That wouldn't work.
• 11:42
SPEAKER_01: It no, no, that would not work.
• 11:43
  SPEAKER_01: That would not work.
• 11:44
SPEAKER_01: Um because I would go somewhere else.
• 11:47
SPEAKER_01: And I would just keep finding a way.
• 11:48
SPEAKER_01: I would go by boat.
• 11:49
  SPEAKER_01: I'd get in a boat.
• 11:50
  SPEAKER_01: I would get in a boat.
• 11:51
SPEAKER_01: I'd get in a boat and go somewhere.
• 11:53
  SPEAKER_01: Um yeah.
• 11:55
SPEAKER_01: So he's do you feel like Jesus is really trying to be by himself for a minute here?
• 12:00
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 12:00
SPEAKER_01: He's just he's diligent, diligently trying to find some time to spend with God.
• 12:05
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 12:05
SPEAKER_01: Morning, probably John, and just need he needs that.
• 12:09
  SPEAKER_01: That is his rhythm.
• 12:10
SPEAKER_01: He needs alone time with his heavenly father.
• 12:12
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 12:13
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 12:14
  SPEAKER_01: So there's something there.
• 12:15
SPEAKER_01: But also, he doesn't stop doing what he's doing with people.
• 12:22
  SPEAKER_01: It's kind of funny.
• 12:23
SPEAKER_01: He sends, so he's dissent he sends the disciples away.
• 12:26
SPEAKER_01: He's like, you guys go, you go.
• 12:28
SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna t I'm gonna clean all this up.
• 12:31
SPEAKER_01: We don't know exactly what that means.
• 12:33
SPEAKER_03: Feeding of the five thousand, which is which it was at the front side of Clint's sermon.
• 12:36
SPEAKER_03: Clint covered the five thousand.
• 12:38
SPEAKER_03: He talked about the five thousand, but then he focused on the four thousand.
• 12:41
SPEAKER_03: Feeding of the five thousand predominantly Jewish.
• 12:43
SPEAKER_02: If you take uh this account, is found in Matthew, Mark, and John.
• 12:51
  SPEAKER_02: John, yeah.
• 12:52
  SPEAKER_02: Matthew, Mark, and John.
• 12:55
SPEAKER_03: Mark and John they're much shorter accounts.
• 12:57
SPEAKER_03: Like it's it you don't get all the detail that we're gonna look at in Matthew today.
• 13:01
SPEAKER_03: But the feeding of the 5,000 was a uh a tipping point if you read in John, where the people that were being fed, they they came to this realization, oh, this is the Messiah, like this is the guy.
• 13:15
SPEAKER_03: So you get this this fever pitch change to where I I I think it even says that they wanted to take and you know the consideration of enthroning him or moving him towards that, towards that route.
• 13:27
  SPEAKER_03: Make him a king.
• 13:28
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, make him a king.
• 13:29
SPEAKER_03: And so when you get to the start of our stories, in like in my art in Matthew 22, and I think in in the uh in the other chapters, it says immediately he put him in a boat.
• 13:40
SPEAKER_03: Immediately we think of a sense of urgency, but it's more of a forced, it's a forced word, not just a time frame.
• 13:47
SPEAKER_03: It's he put them in a boat and said go.
• 13:51
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 13:51
SPEAKER_03: That's so important for the context of the story because of what they're about to face.
• 13:55
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 13:55
SPEAKER_03: So was he trying to protect them from falling into the trap of too early in the ministry to be here?
• 14:02
SPEAKER_03: Did they need to get to the other side?
• 14:03
SPEAKER_03: Was there a storm coming and he wanted them to be right in the middle of it?
• 14:06
  SPEAKER_03: I mean, I don't know.
• 14:06
  SPEAKER_03: Interesting thoughts.
• 14:07
SPEAKER_01: You got any thoughts on that?
• 14:08
  SPEAKER_01: It's a divine timeline for sure.
• 14:10
SPEAKER_01: It is a divine timeline.
• 14:11
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it could be he's something that is he doesn't want to happen with this crowd.
• 14:16
SPEAKER_01: He wants to get him out of there.
• 14:18
SPEAKER_01: It could be he needs to he needs to to to to finish with this crowd and be by himself.
• 14:24
SPEAKER_01: He because it says he wants to go up in the hills and pray, so he has to disperse the crowd.
• 14:28
SPEAKER_01: But we see that throughout the gospels, where he moved, people wanted to be there, people wanted to see what this was about.
• 14:36
SPEAKER_01: They couldn't couldn't ever get space and time for themselves.
• 14:42
SPEAKER_01: It was it was tough to do.
• 14:43
SPEAKER_01: So you you said that there were always people there.
• 14:45
SPEAKER_01: So um yeah, clearly timely, he's got uh a a very uh specific and divine timeline of what he wants to do.
• 14:52
SPEAKER_01: So and these these are not all of them, but uh many of them are fishermen uh getting in the Sea of Galilee, man.
• 15:00
  SPEAKER_03: We're crossing.
• 15:01
SPEAKER_03: This is not a problem.
• 15:02
SPEAKER_03: What what we what we lose, I mean now if you if you don't live in Iceland and maybe you live here in Gulf Breeze, it's snapper season.
• 15:08
SPEAKER_03: And what you know when snapper season opens is that there's gonna be giant storms and huge seas.
• 15:12
SPEAKER_03: It'll be calm all before, but then it turns into a nightmare.
• 15:15
SPEAKER_03: It's just what it does.
• 15:16
  SPEAKER_03: Yep.
• 15:17
SPEAKER_03: In the Sea of Galilee, it if you can imagine and and if you if you just want something interesting to do, go look at the of pictures that show you the topography of the Sea of Galilee.
• 15:27
SPEAKER_03: It's it's gentle sloping hills that go down to the sea.
• 15:32
  SPEAKER_03: The lake, right?
• 15:33
  SPEAKER_03: Like don't don't confuse sea with salt water, it's a it's a lake.
• 15:36
  SPEAKER_03: So gentle sloping hills.
• 15:38
SPEAKER_03: So at nighttime, it's it's pretty common for the heat to roll down that hill and to create some pretty strong winds on the Sea of Galilee at night.
• 15:47
  SPEAKER_03: It just happens.
• 15:48
SPEAKER_03: So Jesus puts them in the boat before nightfall.
• 15:51
  SPEAKER_03: This is a seven-mile paddle.
• 15:54
  SPEAKER_03: Cross, yeah.
• 15:55
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's not even a cross.
• 15:56
SPEAKER_03: They're like cutting the top corner.
• 15:57
SPEAKER_03: It's not even the but it's it's seven miles across at as widest point, but they're still kind of hugging the shore and coming out.
• 16:04
SPEAKER_03: One of the stories tells us they're three to four miles out.
• 16:06
SPEAKER_03: So it's like right in the middle of their journey across is when they encounter this thing, but it should have taken them a few hours, maybe.
• 16:18
SPEAKER_03: So he puts them in the boat before nightfall.
• 16:20
SPEAKER_03: They're probably hoping to be there by nightfall or shortly after.
• 16:24
SPEAKER_03: And then our story shows up that they're in this storm in the fourth watch of the night.
• 16:29
  SPEAKER_03: Yep.
• 16:29
  SPEAKER_03: Which is somewhere between 3 a.m.
• 16:32
  SPEAKER_03: and 6 a.m.
• 16:34
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think that's a problem.
• 16:35
SPEAKER_01: I think John tells us, John or Mark tells us it's it's about three.
• 16:39
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 16:39
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 16:40
  SPEAKER_03: That's a sundial, sundial on that.
• 16:42
  SPEAKER_01: I guess.
• 16:42
SPEAKER_03: I don't know, but they know it's the third watch, right?
• 16:44
  SPEAKER_03: Or the fourth watch.
• 16:45
  SPEAKER_03: So it's it's three a.m.
• 16:47
SPEAKER_03: So imagine being in a boat.
• 16:49
SPEAKER_03: You thought you were gonna be somewhere in two hours, and now it's I don't know, I can't do that math.
• 16:53
SPEAKER_03: I'm at seven, three, four, five, six, seven, eight hours later.
• 16:57
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 16:57
SPEAKER_03: And you're paddling and you aren't getting anywhere.
• 16:59
SPEAKER_01: Have you ever been caught in a storm in a boat?
• 17:02
SPEAKER_03: I have been in storms in boats that I shouldn't be in in the Gulf or also in the Atlantic.
• 17:08
  SPEAKER_03: It's a it's a pucker up moment.
• 17:10
SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's I tell you, you you your prayers tighten up.
• 17:13
  SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
• 17:15
SPEAKER_03: You you ask questions like, why am I here?
• 17:18
  SPEAKER_03: And and and that's that's right.
• 17:19
SPEAKER_03: And then God's like, yeah, now you're talking.
• 17:22
SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, I I don't I'm gonna go into all those stories, but you know, you're at no GPS out in the Atlantic.
• 17:28
  SPEAKER_01: It's a strange moment.
• 17:30
SPEAKER_01: We had several years ago before we moved, I got a couple of inflatable kayaks for my birthday.
• 17:35
SPEAKER_01: We lived close to a lake, not a big lake, but it was a the only lake in Texas that runs north and south.
• 17:42
  SPEAKER_01: So it's a sailing lake.
• 17:44
SPEAKER_01: And um And you're in a kayak.
• 17:46
  SPEAKER_01: I'm a kayak.
• 17:47
SPEAKER_01: So we have the kids, I have one of the kids, Cece has the other kid, and the wind picks up like crazy, and these inflatable kayaks are sails, you know, basically inflatables.
• 18:00
SPEAKER_01: But we are fighting and fighting and fighting and fighting literally are going nowhere, you know?
• 18:05
SPEAKER_01: It's we're getting tired, and that that's the only moment.
• 18:08
SPEAKER_01: And that when I hear the story, I or read the story, I I immediately think of that.
• 18:12
SPEAKER_01: So eventually we had to just change course, go straight to the shore, and basically just yeah, yeah, kind of walk.
• 18:20
SPEAKER_01: We were able to stay, but hug the shore.
• 18:22
SPEAKER_01: That was the only way.
• 18:23
SPEAKER_01: Because when you're in the middle, you're fighting, I mean, you're going nowhere.
• 18:26
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 18:26
  SPEAKER_01: Going nowhere.
• 18:27
  SPEAKER_01: So it's interesting.
• 18:29
SPEAKER_01: I want you to unpack a little bit because Jesus is the one that sent them out here.
• 18:35
SPEAKER_01: So we can have a theology or it's out there.
• 18:39
SPEAKER_01: If storms are happening, if bad things are happening, then that means I must not be doing something right.
• 18:45
SPEAKER_01: Or the devil's coming to get me.
• 18:47
  SPEAKER_01: The devil's got me.
• 18:48
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 18:49
SPEAKER_01: Or I've got some sin in my life that I haven't dealt with.
• 18:52
SPEAKER_01: So these storms, these trials, whatever's happened to me must be a result of what I've done or haven't done.
• 18:58
SPEAKER_01: Jesus put them in a boat, shoved them out.
• 19:03
SPEAKER_03: I wonder if I wonder if he did a sailors, you know, or a see you guys later.
• 19:07
SPEAKER_03: See you in a bit.
• 19:08
SPEAKER_03: They get three to four miles out and they get hammered in a storm.
• 19:11
SPEAKER_03: Jesus put them in that storm.
• 19:14
SPEAKER_03: What do you do with that?
• 19:15
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I uh there are people that believe that you become a believer in your life that everything is up and to the right, no problems.
• 19:23
SPEAKER_03: Scripture is clear it rains on the just and the unjust.
• 19:27
SPEAKER_03: So did he put them in the storm for this story to learn this lesson, or was there just a storm?
• 19:33
SPEAKER_03: Oh, I I heard a uh I've listened to a lot of more sermons today and yesterday than I ever thought I would possibly.
• 19:41
SPEAKER_03: Um and one of the quotes I heard was, If you know that you're in the right place and you're experiencing a storm, then you can enjoy the storm, as opposed to fretting through the middle of the storm.
• 19:55
  SPEAKER_03: Right?
• 19:56
SPEAKER_03: And that's a that what that did is that brought me back to my dad who used to um we live we were the first ones to live in the base housing on Hurlbert, and the trees hadn't really grown up a whole lot.
• 20:08
SPEAKER_03: And uh he had we rem You remember the old folding chairs?
• 20:12
  SPEAKER_03: They were aluminum.
• 20:13
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they had and they had the little strips off all the horrible strips across them.
• 20:17
  SPEAKER_03: Super comfortable.
• 20:18
SPEAKER_03: Whenever we would see storms coming on the horizon, he would take us out in the well, he not it was me.
• 20:23
SPEAKER_03: We'd go out and sit in the backyard, way out from the house, and watch these storms and watch the lightning in.
• 20:29
SPEAKER_03: I don't aluminum is probably not, I don't know if it's a conductor, it's more of a conductor than being in the house and watch these storms.
• 20:34
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, why am I telling you that?
• 20:35
  SPEAKER_03: I have no idea.
• 20:36
SPEAKER_03: But that what was the point of that?
• 20:40
SPEAKER_01: How we find ourselves to be able to enjoy the storm that you find yourself even though that's where you're supposed to be.
• 20:46
SPEAKER_03: And I remember we enjoyed them.
• 20:47
SPEAKER_03: And I I was probably good with it until it was a flash and then a boom, and then I'm like, you know, I think we should probably go inside.
• 20:54
SPEAKER_03: And dad never showed any sort of anxiety or whatever.
• 20:57
SPEAKER_03: He just always enjoyed it.
• 20:58
SPEAKER_03: Eventually we would pick up our chairs and we'd go inside and yeah, and live to to talk about it.
• 21:03
SPEAKER_03: But uh those were those are some cool core memories that I'll hold on to.
• 21:07
SPEAKER_03: But you know, nowadays I look back, I'm like, what are we doing?
• 21:10
SPEAKER_03: Look at watching the lightning storm come across the road.
• 21:16
  SPEAKER_01: Probably now.
• 21:16
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, let's just see what how much God loves us.
• 21:18
  SPEAKER_01: No, that's that's bad theology.
• 21:20
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's terrible.
• 21:22
SPEAKER_01: We'll uh we'll edit that out, maybe.
• 21:25
SPEAKER_01: Um, so let's talk about what happens.
• 21:27
SPEAKER_01: So they're caught, they're scared, they're in the storm, they're not doing well.
• 21:33
SPEAKER_01: Jesus comes walking on the water.
• 21:35
SPEAKER_01: So let's talk about their response to that.
• 21:38
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 21:39
  SPEAKER_01: Fear.
• 21:40
  SPEAKER_01: Fear.
• 21:41
SPEAKER_03: Well, and one of them in Mark's gospel, Jesus is just walking right on by them.
• 21:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's he was going to the other side.
• 21:48
SPEAKER_01: He's just, he wouldn't even get in the boat.
• 21:49
SPEAKER_03: He's like, which makes me laugh because Jesus is like, Oh, those guys are struggling.
• 21:54
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what's up, boys?
• 21:56
SPEAKER_03: And he keeps on going.
• 21:57
SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's almost now it feels like he's just strolling.
• 22:00
SPEAKER_03: On by them in the middle of the storm and they're freaking out.
• 22:03
  SPEAKER_03: It's a ghost.
• 22:04
SPEAKER_03: All of them have a response where they look and they see Jesus and they they think it's a ghost.
• 22:09
SPEAKER_03: I've not done any research on what what that uh the mod their not modern, their their interpretation of what that would have been like.
• 22:17
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 22:18
  SPEAKER_03: But they're scared.
• 22:19
  SPEAKER_03: So they're pretty panic.
• 22:20
  SPEAKER_01: Rightfully so, probably.
• 22:21
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, rightfully so.
• 22:23
SPEAKER_03: And then then he stops and he comes over and um and then in our text is where you get so fear, fear is is the driver of it.
• 22:32
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because in 27 he spoke to them and he says, Don't be afraid, take courage.
• 22:38
  SPEAKER_01: I am here.
• 22:40
SPEAKER_01: You get an I am statement or it is I I am.
• 22:44
  SPEAKER_01: I am he's here.
• 22:46
SPEAKER_01: So with that declaration of who I am and I'm here with you, he says, Don't be afraid.
• 22:53
SPEAKER_01: That's the encouragement or the command.
• 22:54
SPEAKER_03: Are there moments in life where we're in a storm and we see Jesus and it scares us because we don't recognize it as Jesus?
• 23:00
SPEAKER_03: I'm at Are there moments in life right now that you're looking around and you just life, life, the storms have caused you great fear and maybe you're not able to see what God is doing in these moments?
• 23:11
  SPEAKER_03: I think that's a that's a real good question to ask yourself, right?
• 23:15
SPEAKER_03: As you're wrestling through the fact that maybe this storm wasn't of your own doing.
• 23:19
  SPEAKER_03: Could be.
• 23:20
  SPEAKER_03: Um maybe it's maybe it's a storm.
• 23:24
SPEAKER_03: Maybe Jesus puts you in the storm.
• 23:26
SPEAKER_03: Maybe you'll encounter someone in this, or faith will grow to a place in this storm that will prepare you for whatever's ahead.
• 23:32
  SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
• 23:33
  SPEAKER_03: But but they're but they're scared.
• 23:35
  SPEAKER_01: They are.
• 23:35
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 23:36
SPEAKER_01: And he speaks to it.
• 23:37
SPEAKER_01: He does, tells them not to, not to be.
• 23:39
  SPEAKER_01: Don't be afraid.
• 23:40
  SPEAKER_01: Because why?
• 23:41
  SPEAKER_01: I am.
• 23:41
  SPEAKER_01: I am I'm here.
• 23:42
  SPEAKER_01: I'm here.
• 23:43
SPEAKER_01: Um, so let's talk about Peter.
• 23:45
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, Peter.
• 23:46
SPEAKER_01: Okay, so if this is you, you're in that boat, you're out trying to get a snapper, and you see Jesus, and he says, Don't be afraid, I'm here.
• 23:55
  SPEAKER_01: Is your first thought?
• 23:57
SPEAKER_01: I'm getting out of the boat.
• 23:58
SPEAKER_01: I'm walking on this water.
• 24:00
SPEAKER_01: No, mine is no you got any dramamine?
• 24:03
SPEAKER_03: I'd be looking for some drugs to not throw up, not drugs.
• 24:07
  SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
• 24:08
  SPEAKER_03: It's not that podcast.
• 24:09
  SPEAKER_03: Um, no.
• 24:10
  SPEAKER_03: No.
• 24:11
SPEAKER_03: But yeah, Peter is so interesting, isn't he?
• 24:13
SPEAKER_03: This guy's I I have to ask, you and I laughed about this earlier, but this is Matthew telling us about this.
• 24:21
SPEAKER_03: Mark's gospel would have been Peter's telling of the story.
• 24:24
SPEAKER_03: He doesn't tell us anything about Peter.
• 24:26
SPEAKER_03: You would assume that John would, because John, anytime Peter did something embarrassing, he immediately tells you about it.
• 24:33
SPEAKER_03: He doesn't tell you about Peter.
• 24:34
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 24:35
SPEAKER_03: And you think he would have because Peter sinks, right, in this story, but maybe he also didn't want to give him credit for walking on the water.
• 24:41
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 24:41
SPEAKER_01: So there's kind of a because he's the only one that that is spurred to whatever this is.
• 24:47
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 24:47
SPEAKER_01: This moment of of faith or stepping out into the unknown, you know, which can be metaphorical, but we we get that too.
• 24:57
SPEAKER_01: That could resonate with us about doing something that you're not comfortable doing, but you're doing it because you know Jesus is on the other side of that.
• 25:04
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 25:05
SPEAKER_01: So there could be but it is interesting.
• 25:07
SPEAKER_01: Do you have any thoughts on on I can make something up?
• 25:09
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I wonder with Matthew, he's writing this to a Jewish persuasion, can control over the wind and waves.
• 25:14
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, so maybe maybe this is a larger, a larger connection to the God of creation um and his control.
• 25:22
SPEAKER_03: Why, why put Peter in there?
• 25:24
SPEAKER_03: Uh, maybe because of Peter's influence and responsibility, uh, and and maybe it's just that that story stuck to Matthew.
• 25:32
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 25:33
SPEAKER_03: Matthew was not a fisherman.
• 25:35
SPEAKER_03: Um, so he would have been one in the boat that had not probably experienced this.
• 25:40
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 25:40
SPEAKER_03: And then some dude walks on water.
• 25:42
SPEAKER_03: He's a he's a bean counter, and so he's like, that guy just walked on water.
• 25:45
  SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
• 25:46
  SPEAKER_03: Doesn't make any sense.
• 25:49
SPEAKER_01: I like uh I just thought about this for the first time this morning, of course, thinking about this thought, but um I wonder too if it's a very humble and deep in his faith, Peter, and he didn't want to make this story about himself.
• 26:05
SPEAKER_01: When he's saying the Mark inclusion that he just wanted it to be about about Jesus because Peter's so humble.
• 26:15
SPEAKER_02: Um He didn't used to be.
• 26:18
  SPEAKER_03: We are 100% maybe.
• 26:19
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 26:19
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 26:20
  SPEAKER_03: I mean I I I I don't disagree with that.
• 26:22
SPEAKER_03: Mark might also not even have got that part of the story.
• 26:25
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 26:26
SPEAKER_03: He he might have been, yeah.
• 26:28
SPEAKER_03: And maybe in a sense, it you know, we celebrated as he walked on water, and we all talk about how yeah, he's the only one ever to do it.
• 26:34
SPEAKER_03: What maybe it wasn't that spectacular.
• 26:36
SPEAKER_03: Maybe, maybe he did it and it sunk and it was pretty embarrassing.
• 26:39
SPEAKER_03: Could have been embarrassing for him.
• 26:40
  SPEAKER_03: A couple steps.
• 26:41
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it could have been embarrassing for him.
• 26:42
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 26:42
SPEAKER_01: So let's talk about what happened, because I know you have a thought on to how this will not preach or will preach, but we see this, we've probably heard a million sermons about it.
• 26:54
SPEAKER_01: Jesus says, Come on, let's go.
• 26:56
SPEAKER_01: So he oh he rewards the step of obedience.
• 27:01
SPEAKER_01: All right, come on, come get yourself.
• 27:04
SPEAKER_01: He starts to do it.
• 27:05
  SPEAKER_01: Peter does it.
• 27:06
SPEAKER_01: Jesus holds out his hand.
• 27:08
SPEAKER_01: When he sees Jesus, he's good.
• 27:09
  SPEAKER_01: He's doing it.
• 27:11
SPEAKER_01: When he takes his eyes off Jesus, he looks around, fear sets in, he sinks.
• 27:16
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's the most metaphorical sermon.
• 27:18
SPEAKER_03: You know, it's this it's a setup for every preacher.
• 27:20
SPEAKER_03: As long as you keep your eyes on Jesus, you will eyes fixed on Jesus.
• 27:24
SPEAKER_03: As if the main point of the sermon was we we should all be walking on water.
• 27:28
  unknown: Right?
• 27:29
  SPEAKER_03: What's that what's that ocean song?
• 27:31
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 27:31
SPEAKER_03: Oh man, is that about this?
• 27:33
SPEAKER_01: Is that about this, or is it maybe It's about stepping into the unknown a bit?
• 27:36
SPEAKER_01: I think stepping out into your faith where God would call you.
• 27:39
SPEAKER_01: But yes, the the the imagery of all that whole song is you call me out upon the waters.
• 27:43
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 27:44
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 27:44
SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm kind of I'm banging a phrase around in my head.
• 27:46
SPEAKER_03: I don't know really what to say.
• 27:47
SPEAKER_03: You and I talked about it a little earlier.
• 27:50
SPEAKER_03: Thank God Peter didn't get in the water and start moon walking around and dance and like super successful at walking on water.
• 27:57
SPEAKER_03: Because that would have, that would have been ridiculous.
• 28:00
SPEAKER_03: We would have all been like, man, what our faith stinks.
• 28:02
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 28:03
SPEAKER_03: Or we should be doing this.
• 28:06
SPEAKER_03: I love the fact that that dude sunk.
• 28:10
  SPEAKER_03: Sank like a rock.
• 28:11
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 28:11
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I if we all thought about it and processed through, there are times when in great faith we were able to be a part of or accomplish or see something that we probably typically wouldn't have done, maybe not walk on water, but because of our faith.
• 28:26
SPEAKER_03: I I think maybe we can connect to this in some degree where we recognize that point, changing the supernatural flow of things and allowing something that shouldn't walk on water to walk on water.
• 28:38
SPEAKER_03: I don't maybe that's a that's a stretch in that sense, but I love the fact that uh that he sank, even even though he did it.
• 28:47
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I love that he did it because it does speak to that.
• 28:49
SPEAKER_03: And then I love that he hit the deck because if he would have got out and then Jesus and Peter would have just strolled on across the rest of the water, well, that'd be so hard to preach.
• 29:01
SPEAKER_01: It'd be hard to live up to.
• 29:02
  SPEAKER_03: It'd be hard.
• 29:03
  SPEAKER_03: That's what I mean.
• 29:03
SPEAKER_03: It'd be hard to live up to.
• 29:05
SPEAKER_03: Uh we're talking about the guy who denied Jesus, like all of those pieces that that are there.
• 29:10
SPEAKER_03: So I don't think this is about us having enough faith that we can surpass the the natural order of things.
• 29:19
  SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't think this is that message.
• 29:20
SPEAKER_03: I think this has to get back into the fact that Jesus is I am, he called him out onto the waters.
• 29:27
SPEAKER_03: He went, he experienced this great moment of faith, but then humanity sets in, which is really where we are.
• 29:33
SPEAKER_03: So maybe it's a reminder that we are not God.
• 29:35
SPEAKER_03: Um, and and then Jesus saves.
• 29:38
SPEAKER_03: So still, there's a picture, just like in in this sermon, Jesus and the the woman caught in adultery, it's a picture of Jesus present in the storm to save us when when we're going down.
• 29:49
SPEAKER_03: So there's still kind of a salvation message that's there.
• 29:52
  SPEAKER_01: For sure.
• 29:52
SPEAKER_01: You've said it a couple times, his presence.
• 29:55
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 29:55
SPEAKER_01: And I think just in the course of your talking, I don't think it's like a major point you're making, but I I see it as coming back to that because in the fear, you know, God doesn't he doesn't meet us with explanations usually.
• 30:09
SPEAKER_01: He doesn't talk through it.
• 30:11
  SPEAKER_01: You know?
• 30:12
SPEAKER_01: He doesn't sit down and say, Okay, boys, let me tell you why this happened.
• 30:16
SPEAKER_01: But he meets us with his presence.
• 30:17
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 30:18
SPEAKER_01: And I think there there's something way more beautiful and powerful about that.
• 30:22
SPEAKER_01: But let's get to the question though.
• 30:23
SPEAKER_01: Not to bury the lead.
• 30:25
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 30:25
SPEAKER_01: Uh the question, because you just you brought it up a little bit with doubt.
• 30:29
SPEAKER_01: I want to talk about that a little bit with faith and doubt.
• 30:31
SPEAKER_01: Um, you have so little faith.
• 30:33
SPEAKER_01: Question, why did you doubt?
• 30:35
SPEAKER_01: Why did you doubt me, or why do you doubt?
• 30:38
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he doesn't answer that question, does he?
• 30:41
SPEAKER_02: He doesn't have an answer, probably.
• 30:44
SPEAKER_01: But it's one of those questions that I'm assuming made him wrestle with who he believed Jesus to be.
• 30:51
SPEAKER_01: And I think they all have this moment, a moment of clarity, which we know is fleeting for them, for us, that they end up worshiping him.
• 31:00
SPEAKER_01: They did they exclaim, This you really are the Son of God, for what they've seen.
• 31:05
SPEAKER_01: They just saw him speed five thousand people.
• 31:07
SPEAKER_01: They're seeing things they've never seen before.
• 31:10
SPEAKER_01: And it causes them to have this declaration and this moment of understanding.
• 31:15
SPEAKER_01: But faith and doubt are those two things opposing uh thoughts, opposing beliefs?
• 31:22
SPEAKER_03: You have a thought on that.
• 31:23
SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna let you go with that because I think I think that's a that's a that's a great question that we all need to resolve.
• 31:27
  SPEAKER_03: Because I I don't I I tend to agree with you.
• 31:30
SPEAKER_03: I'll let you talk about that for a second.
• 31:31
SPEAKER_01: Well, I was just thinking about I think we tend to think of of faith and doubt being the two sides of the coin.
• 31:39
SPEAKER_01: I think the other side of faith is fear, not doubt.
• 31:42
SPEAKER_01: Because I think you do wrestle with doubt.
• 31:44
SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking about um scriptures where he says, Lord, I believe, but help my own belief.
• 31:50
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 31:50
SPEAKER_01: So you see wrestling with doubt, I don't think is a marker of not believing.
• 31:56
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 31:57
  SPEAKER_01: I think it's a marker of humanity.
• 32:01
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 32:02
SPEAKER_01: That's what he would say, and fear of the unknown.
• 32:04
SPEAKER_01: I think that's truly what is our main problem is we talk about this a lot.
• 32:10
SPEAKER_01: We want to be in control and we want to know all the things that God knows.
• 32:15
  SPEAKER_01: That's from day one.
• 32:16
  SPEAKER_01: That's been our problem.
• 32:17
SPEAKER_01: You want to you want this knowledge?
• 32:19
SPEAKER_01: You want he God says, you don't want this knowledge.
• 32:22
SPEAKER_01: We say, No, we do.
• 32:23
SPEAKER_01: We want to know all the things.
• 32:24
  SPEAKER_01: Give it to us.
• 32:25
SPEAKER_01: And then we have it and we say, I we can't, what do we do with this?
• 32:28
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 32:28
  SPEAKER_01: And God says, Exactly.
• 32:30
SPEAKER_01: I told you, you don't want this.
• 32:31
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 32:32
SPEAKER_01: And that coin, but I see people wrestle with with doubt in a sense of like, oh, they worry about their salvation or they worry about their faith.
• 32:42
SPEAKER_01: And I and I think um, hopefully there's encouragement in that.
• 32:45
  SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't I don't think that's the flip side of it.
• 32:48
SPEAKER_01: I think the fear takes over.
• 32:50
SPEAKER_01: And I think what our faith is put in, Jesus is is the only one, obviously, that is strong enough to to to handle to handle that.
• 33:02
  SPEAKER_03: I think you're 100% correct where I will push on you.
• 33:05
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 33:06
SPEAKER_03: Is Jesus asks, Why do you doubt?
• 33:08
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 33:08
SPEAKER_03: So I I don't uh he doesn't say why do you fear?
• 33:11
SPEAKER_03: He says, Why do you doubt?
• 33:12
SPEAKER_03: I I think you're right, and and maybe it's a rhetorical, it has to be a rhetorical question.
• 33:16
SPEAKER_03: Because he didn't go, oh the the waves and the wind, right?
• 33:21
SPEAKER_03: Like I I mean, because he still called out on Jesus.
• 33:24
SPEAKER_03: So his ultimately his faith is in Jesus.
• 33:27
SPEAKER_03: Um the answer has to be because we're human.
• 33:32
  SPEAKER_03: Just there's a here's a rando thought.
• 33:35
SPEAKER_02: Back up a few stories.
• 33:37
SPEAKER_03: They just got news that John the Baptist was killed.
• 33:42
SPEAKER_03: Put that into your church hopper, right?
• 33:45
SPEAKER_03: The one that bap the one that baptized the Messiah or Jesus, who, you know, I don't know if they've come to that realization yet, um, was the precursor, the forerunner to the to the so he was he represented Elijah in in the natural sense.
• 33:59
SPEAKER_03: So they're dealing with the loss.
• 34:02
SPEAKER_03: That's not that's not up into the right.
• 34:05
SPEAKER_03: But then they, but then they have the feeding of the 5,000, so they see something supernaturally takes place, and now they find themselves in a storm.
• 34:11
SPEAKER_03: Why wouldn't they suffer the same fate as John, right?
• 34:13
SPEAKER_03: Like maybe this is it.
• 34:14
SPEAKER_03: Maybe the Sea of Galilee is where we go down.
• 34:16
SPEAKER_03: Jesus put us out here, maybe, maybe we're done.
• 34:19
SPEAKER_03: So why do you doubt?
• 34:21
SPEAKER_03: But the answer could be because we don't have full knowledge, because we're not God.
• 34:24
SPEAKER_03: So so maybe you know, maybe a better answer, I just got it.
• 34:27
  SPEAKER_03: It's not because we're human, it's because we're not God.
• 34:30
SPEAKER_03: And that's where the I am, I think, probably comes in.
• 34:33
SPEAKER_03: So the the recognition that there may be times in our life where God will suspend the natural order of things to accomplish and do the things that He needs to do for us, you're still not God.
• 34:45
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 34:46
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, I don't know.
• 34:47
SPEAKER_03: I want how to be pushing that around for a while.
• 34:49
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 34:50
SPEAKER_03: You got over a week to got over a week to be able to do that.
• 34:53
SPEAKER_03: But I I mean, man, so the very natural, my heart cries out for folks.
• 34:57
SPEAKER_03: You know, uh, I think it is so important to recognize that this particular set of scripture relates to everybody in one of a couple ways.
• 35:07
SPEAKER_03: You're either in the storm, coming out of the storm, or going into the storm.
• 35:11
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I guess you could be waiting for the storm.
• 35:14
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 35:14
SPEAKER_03: So it it will bear, it will bear something in your life.
• 35:18
SPEAKER_03: If you figured out how to be devoid of challenges, awesome.
• 35:24
SPEAKER_03: That's gotta be pretty boring life.
• 35:27
SPEAKER_03: Or maybe you've just figured out how to look at them and and process them differently.
• 35:31
SPEAKER_03: Um, so so, in all of it, creating tools around what we believe, where does fear uh roll in our life?
• 35:41
  SPEAKER_03: Who is God?
• 35:42
  SPEAKER_03: Who are we?
• 35:43
SPEAKER_03: Um, when the scenario hits where we look out and we see something that looks like a ghost, or let's just call it something that terrifies us in the middle of the storm, uh, rather than being fearful, maybe we can process that, maybe we can think of it differently, recognize the great I am and all of that.
• 35:58
  SPEAKER_03: Yep.
• 35:59
SPEAKER_03: Um so this is a super practical.
• 36:01
  SPEAKER_01: I think it's a super practical message.
• 36:03
  SPEAKER_01: I agree.
• 36:04
SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking about just the the measures of faith and even in the natural versus the supernatural, but you know, when Jesus tells us faith is small as a mustard seed can move a mountain.
• 36:16
SPEAKER_01: So does he mean that literally?
• 36:18
SPEAKER_01: Is it more of a metaphor for us to understand?
• 36:21
SPEAKER_01: And I think too, the the strength of our faith is not is not the thing that saves us.
• 36:25
SPEAKER_01: It's the it's who we put our faith into that saves us.
• 36:28
SPEAKER_01: So even in that, I th I think there's always a tendency to be like, ah, I need stronger faith, stronger faith, stronger faith.
• 36:35
  SPEAKER_01: And that's good.
• 36:36
  SPEAKER_01: Strong faith is great.
• 36:37
SPEAKER_01: And I don't think we're saying you shouldn't have a strong faith, but also understanding truly who God is, like He's He is the one that carries us through these storms.
• 36:48
  SPEAKER_01: You know, His presence.
• 36:49
SPEAKER_01: Like it's not about how big our faith is at the end of the day.
• 36:54
SPEAKER_01: It's it's He's big enough and strong enough and right enough to carry us through.
• 37:00
SPEAKER_03: There is a God and it's not me.
• 37:02
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 37:03
SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean maybe that's the main point.
• 37:04
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 37:05
  SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know.
• 37:07
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 37:08
SPEAKER_03: It's a good one to end on because it just it kind of brings it, it probably brings all of the things to bear and the storm sort of compresses it all together.
• 37:18
  SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't know.
• 37:19
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 37:19
  SPEAKER_03: Next series, dude.
• 37:20
SPEAKER_03: Did you want to talk anything about that?
• 37:21
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you want to set it up?
• 37:22
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 37:23
SPEAKER_03: You're excited about this one.
• 37:25
SPEAKER_03: It it might be my favorite, which I say about every series.
• 37:29
SPEAKER_03: The next series, we're doing a deep dive on David, but in a way that I've never seen done before.
• 37:36
SPEAKER_03: We're going to take a story of David, and then we're going to find the psalm that correlates with it, and we're going to mash all of that together in 35 minutes or 40 minutes.
• 37:50
SPEAKER_03: So the podcast becomes very important because we're going to be, I mean, we're going to try and cover as much as we can with all these different topics, but it will be uh insightful to learn about David.
• 38:02
SPEAKER_03: It will also be a worshipful experience because you're going to get the psalm.
• 38:06
SPEAKER_03: But then I think you're going to get a richness and a level of detail that will help in life because, um, like the first one, you've searched me and you know me.
• 38:15
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, when we get to the God doesn't look at the outward appearance, but he looks at the heart.
• 38:20
SPEAKER_03: When you get into the nature of what that's like, you wonder about him experiencing that, then him writing that psalm 100%, maybe you know, that he wrote that psalm.
• 38:29
SPEAKER_03: You don't know how closely to that moment he wrote it, right?
• 38:32
SPEAKER_03: But it's that experience that generates that song, and you get to put them together.
• 38:36
SPEAKER_03: And if you're a songwriter, you know the best songs are the ones that come out of your own personal experience.
• 38:42
  SPEAKER_03: Yep.
• 38:43
SPEAKER_03: We're gonna be right in the middle of what David was going through.
• 38:46
SPEAKER_03: You know, people get frustrated when we get out of the New Testament.
• 38:49
SPEAKER_03: This is gonna feel like a New Testament connection to God because of the way that David's heart um kind of fettered through all of that.
• 38:57
  SPEAKER_03: But I'm I'm excited about it.
• 38:58
SPEAKER_03: It's not that's not to step over the series we're in because it's been a good one.
• 39:01
SPEAKER_03: Um, but but the David series.
• 39:03
  SPEAKER_03: What's it called?
• 39:04
  SPEAKER_03: It's called David.
• 39:05
SPEAKER_03: Uh Life of David, part one.
• 39:06
SPEAKER_03: Life of David Part One.
• 39:08
  SPEAKER_03: Part one.
• 39:08
SPEAKER_03: So we got four we four weeks in this one?
• 39:09
  SPEAKER_03: Four weeks.
• 39:10
SPEAKER_03: Four weeks in this one, and then we'll pick it up at some point next year and we'll we'll get into the the other part of his life.
• 39:15
SPEAKER_03: It's after the big mess up.
• 39:16
SPEAKER_01: He was a complicated fellow.
• 39:19
SPEAKER_01: David was a complicated fellow.
• 39:20
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but what a an epic person and and story, and so much too of what we talk about in the fulfillment with Jesus in the New Testament and understanding the thought of you know the Jewish nation about David, their their king.
• 39:36
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 39:37
SPEAKER_01: And the the lineage, obviously, we'll get into all that, but it's I mean, it's it's a central figure to the to the whole of faith.
• 39:43
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, to the gospel.
• 39:44
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sure.
• 39:45
  SPEAKER_01: So good, man.
• 39:47
SPEAKER_01: Have fun on your vacation.
• 39:49
  SPEAKER_01: Thanks, man.
• 39:49
  SPEAKER_01: I will.
• 39:49
SPEAKER_01: You guys have fun here too.
• 39:51
  SPEAKER_01: Enjoy the slime.
• 39:52
SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be it's gonna be awesome.
• 39:54
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 39:54
SPEAKER_03: Pray for the students by the time you get this, we'll be four days in to organize chaos.
• 40:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and uh just a last shout out to for the kids' baptism bash on the Sunday after BBS.
• 40:07
SPEAKER_01: Yep, such a really beautiful service to kids that have connected to their faith during that week or have just been wanting to go public with that.
• 40:15
  SPEAKER_01: It's such a cool service.
• 40:16
SPEAKER_01: I know Kristen is so so excited about that.
• 40:19
SPEAKER_01: So uh, if you've got kiddos that have been talking about it, asking about it, we'd love to have you guys connect with that.
• 40:26
  SPEAKER_01: So awesome.
• 40:27
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 40:27
  SPEAKER_01: Love ya.
• 40:28
  SPEAKER_01: See ya.
