- 0:12Speaker 2: Course Light, cheos, chill Manors. Offense went back inert last night,
- 0:16Speaker 2: back underground, one hit through seven innings, a night after
- 0:19Speaker 2: the seven runs on five home runs, one hit through
- 0:22Speaker 2: seven innings, how they fell behind four noth into The
- 0:24Speaker 2: Dodgers lost four to two in Los Angeles. Emerson Hancock
- 0:28Speaker 2: eight hits, three runs allowed in five innings. Was that
- 0:30Speaker 2: his last start as a Mariner? We'll talk about that.
- 0:32Speaker 2: West and Wilson struggled playing third base manners three games
- 0:36Speaker 2: under five hundred two and a half back from Texas
- 0:38Speaker 2: in the first place in the America League West. Tonight
- 0:40Speaker 2: the series in road trip finale at Dodger Stadium. Brian
- 0:43Speaker 2: Wu moved up a day. He's going to start against
- 0:44Speaker 2: Rokie Sasaki for LA and then the Mariners come home
- 0:47Speaker 2: and play the Twins over the weekend at the Yard
- 0:49Speaker 2: and Soto. The Seahawks are on the field right now
- 0:52Speaker 2: in front of me here at renting along Lake Washington,
- 0:55Speaker 2: fifth practice.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Jenia Mason Athletics Center. How fancy of you?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Wow, that's what they asked me to say, right. I
- 1:02Speaker 2: guess Virginia Mason paid for it so well.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I think that you're just fancy for being there.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, it is a beautiful day. I can't imagine
- 1:11Speaker 2: an NFL training camp with a better setting, better temperature.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I think that's why guys come here, to be honest,
- 1:18Speaker 4: They're like, wait, hold on, I'm not in the heat
- 1:20Speaker 4: of Texas right now.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I used to cover one hundred and five degree practices
- 1:24Speaker 2: at NAPA with the Raiders. This is not that full game,
- 1:27Speaker 2: full pads, first time they've been in full pad, first
- 1:29Speaker 2: morning practice. No fans today other than a few VIPs,
- 1:32Speaker 2: but the hard knocks cameras are still here with the
- 1:35Speaker 2: boom mics and everything else. NFL game officials are here
- 1:37Speaker 2: for the first time. They make a tour of every
- 1:40Speaker 2: one of the thirty two teams and explain the new rules,
- 1:42Speaker 2: emphasis and changes for this year. Game officials will be
- 1:45Speaker 2: officiating the practice today. NFL reporter Aaron Wilson is reporting
- 1:49Speaker 2: the Seahawks are checking out jdave On Clownty. Remember him.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, for a hot minute. You know what
- 1:57Speaker 4: a funny story I got to cover. Well, I was
- 2:00Speaker 4: producing the ESPN radio broadcast of that Bowl game when
- 2:06Speaker 4: it was like the infamous he was facing up against Lawan.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I was.
- 2:13Speaker 4: It was the Outback Bowl and I was there, and yes,
- 2:18Speaker 4: I saw him get hit and it was not in
- 2:21Speaker 4: an area that was injured.
- 2:24Speaker 2: He's thirty three years old now. Jadavian Clowney is played
- 2:28Speaker 2: for the Seahawks, of course, in twenty nineteen. Had eight
- 2:29Speaker 2: and a hacks half sacks last season in thirteen games
- 2:32Speaker 2: for the Cowboys. The Seahawks yesterday signed undrafted rookie Kyrie Duplesses.
- 2:37Speaker 2: He's from the University of Delaware. He spent a little
- 2:39Speaker 2: bit of time with the Lions this offseason. He takes
- 2:42Speaker 2: a roster spot vacated when the team waved Kenny McIntosh,
- 2:45Speaker 2: the running back, after his knee surgery. The WNBA has
- 2:48Speaker 2: fined the Seattle Storm and suspended ConL Celeste Keaton from
- 2:53Speaker 2: attending them team's next five games. She had in exchange
- 2:56Speaker 2: with two fans during Tuesday's game against the Indiana Fever
- 2:59Speaker 2: Climate Pledge Arena WNBA confirmed this today that she suspended
- 3:04Speaker 2: for not being able to attend her team's game for
- 3:06Speaker 2: five games. According to multiple reports, Keaton admonished a pair
- 3:10Speaker 2: of fans who brought signs in the Climate Pledgerina supporting
- 3:13Speaker 2: Fever guard Sophie Cunningham following her recent comments about transgender athletes.
- 3:18Speaker 2: The fans told undividedpod dot com that Keaton directed expletives
- 3:23Speaker 2: at them for a sign to thank Cunningham for quotes
- 3:26Speaker 2: speaking up for girls. The Storm apologized for the injury yesterday,
- 3:31Speaker 2: and the Vikings signed Jamal Adams this week. He's now
- 3:33Speaker 2: on the field at Vikings training camp, which has begun
- 3:36Speaker 2: one of the later ones to begin at ten twenty.
- 3:38Speaker 2: We'll talk in Minnesota with Ben Gosling, Viking Feet writer
- 3:41Speaker 2: from the Minneapolis Star Tribune, about what the thirty year
- 3:43Speaker 2: old Adams looks like as a Viking. Now onto the
- 3:46Speaker 2: Thursday show. From the first practice of training camp today.
- 3:50Speaker 2: What's Jake Bobo's status he misspracticed with an injury the
- 3:52Speaker 2: other day. About julian Neal, the third round pick. I'll
- 3:55Speaker 2: tell you what I've seen so far from practice from them,
- 3:59Speaker 2: It's not much. We'll go to Vikings training camp see
- 4:01Speaker 2: what Jamal Adams is doing there right now, signed with Minnesota.
- 4:04Speaker 2: We'll talk to Ben Gosling and the minute of the
- 4:05Speaker 2: Apples Start Tribune in about fifteen minutes ten forty five.
- 4:09Speaker 2: You're gonna hear from A. J. Barner, the tight end
- 4:11Speaker 2: who had two surgeries after the Super Bowl won on
- 4:13Speaker 2: his shoulder, went on his ankle to repair the two
- 4:16Speaker 2: issues that he played through last year and played really
- 4:19Speaker 2: well through last year. But now he's a lot healthier.
- 4:22Speaker 2: He has a real chance, Jessman, to be a big
- 4:25Speaker 2: factor in this offense because it is now run by
- 4:27Speaker 2: offensive coordinator Brian Flurry, a tight ends coach for the
- 4:31Speaker 2: last seven years of the forty.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Nine ers, and we have yet to see what he
- 4:34Speaker 4: has to offer in that position.
- 4:36Speaker 3: So right, that's exciting.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that Barner has a chance for a Pro Bowl,
- 4:41Speaker 2: borderline all Pro season.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I mean he's doing it with his outfits already.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So yeah, he's the most Unaurora, Ohio guy I know
- 4:51Speaker 2: who grew up an hour from where I grew up
- 4:53Speaker 2: and did persona with the faux mint coats and the
- 4:58Speaker 2: sunglasses in.
- 4:59Speaker 3: The Yeah, but he thrifted it. That makes him cooler.
- 5:05Speaker 4: No, I just I like him a lot because he
- 5:08Speaker 4: was very understated throughout the season, and then he came
- 5:11Speaker 4: out with the first touchdown of the Super Bowl and
- 5:14Speaker 4: then parade. I'm sorry, everyone can do whatever they want
- 5:19Speaker 4: in the parade, and he did him and I was like,
- 5:23Speaker 4: that's him, okay, because you do you. I saw Abe
- 5:27Speaker 4: Lucas and Koog's gear and I was like, yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 3: That's a yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 4: And then I saw you J Barner and I'm like, oh, okay,
- 5:33Speaker 4: we're thrift shopping.
- 5:34Speaker 3: This is awesome.
- 5:36Speaker 2: We do have the largest good will store in the world.
- 5:39Speaker 3: We do.
- 5:40Speaker 4: I just actually had them on Seattle Voice to talk
- 5:43Speaker 4: about it.
- 5:43Speaker 3: With the World Cup coming in.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Cattle Voices, the weekend show that Jessman hosts as well.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Yes, it's your community Voice.
- 5:52Speaker 2: At eleven o'clock, you're gonna hear from Cooper Cup, Yakama native,
- 5:55Speaker 2: two time Super Bowl champion wide receiver. He I did
- 5:58Speaker 2: some interesting things to say about Brian Fleury, the new
- 6:01Speaker 2: offensive coordinator, and about winning grass fields in all NFL stadiums.
- 6:05Speaker 2: He says he knows it can be done, but will it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: That's a place I think the new owners, the Cause
- 6:10Speaker 2: of Family, could score points with their new players we'll
- 6:12Speaker 2: talk about that. You hear from Cooper Cupp and his
- 6:14Speaker 2: perspective about grass fields in the NFL at eleven o'clock,
- 6:17Speaker 2: eleven thirty, your text and talkbacks and the Tacoma Dodds
- 6:20Speaker 2: text one four nine, four to five one. The talkbacks
- 6:22Speaker 2: are on nine three three KJR dot com with the
- 6:24Speaker 2: red microphone button or the iHeartRadio app in nine three
- 6:27Speaker 2: three KJR with the red microphone button. Jessman loves herself
- 6:31Speaker 2: some of those talkbacks. Will play those at eleven thirty.
- 6:35Speaker 2: First question I have is on the text line four
- 6:37Speaker 2: nine four or five one or the talkback line, What
- 6:40Speaker 2: if any concerns do you have about these champions Seahawks,
- 6:44Speaker 2: their defense of their title, what the NFC West is doing.
- 6:47Speaker 2: What concerns, if any, do you have? Are you none?
- 6:49Speaker 2: You're like, I'm good. We wanted Super Bowl as teams
- 6:52Speaker 2: loaded and reloaded. We're good. I'll read back your text
- 6:56Speaker 2: at eleven thirty.
- 6:57Speaker 3: And please give me the talkbacks. I like your voices.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I want to play them. I want to hear them.
- 7:04Speaker 2: The Seahawks right in front of me have pulled out
- 7:06Speaker 2: the high jump landing pit mats now that they're in
- 7:09Speaker 2: full pads. They don't take guys to ground. It's not
- 7:12Speaker 2: like they're in full pads and all of a sudden
- 7:13Speaker 2: they're going to do handlet.
- 7:14Speaker 4: I was gonna ask, are they actually high jumping, because
- 7:18Speaker 4: that's a skill.
- 7:19Speaker 2: They just fall into the pads that keeps them from
- 7:22Speaker 2: landing on the gap they have got. I mean that
- 7:25Speaker 2: you hear, stay up, stay up, stay up all the time.
- 7:28Speaker 2: They don't want guys falling down and tripping over themselves
- 7:30Speaker 2: and getting some cheap, unnecessary injury. They just they contrast,
- 7:34Speaker 2: are two are too expensive these days and the season
- 7:37Speaker 2: too important, and these practices limited. They're limited by the
- 7:40Speaker 2: Collective Bargaining Agreement on how many times they can be
- 7:42Speaker 2: in full pads in training camp. They also buy CBA
- 7:45Speaker 2: have to have days off every five or so days
- 7:48Speaker 2: of camp. All of these within the last fifteen years
- 7:51Speaker 2: or so of the CBA. I mean, when I first
- 7:53Speaker 2: started covering the NFL two days and smashing mouth and
- 7:57Speaker 2: tackling full goat scrimmaging. The only thing full go now
- 8:01Speaker 2: that the pads are on is the line of scrimmage.
- 8:02Speaker 2: The offensive and defensive lineman. They go one on one
- 8:05Speaker 2: on pass rush drills. They're run blocking drills. That's real football,
- 8:09Speaker 2: and they get after it. And that's when you've seen
- 8:11Speaker 2: the fights. And then you're paid anfetti and frank.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Kl like you call them. Yeah, well that's just camp.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's what starts today now that they're in pads,
- 8:27Speaker 2: and we'll see what the full pads, what the offensive
- 8:30Speaker 2: and defensive lines look like, much much better than we've
- 8:33Speaker 2: seen so far. Also see what Jedarian Prices passbalking looks
- 8:36Speaker 2: like now that they're in full pads. The Mariners. The
- 8:39Speaker 2: offense last night for the Mariners back to what it's
- 8:41Speaker 2: been most of the season, A night after the seven
- 8:44Speaker 2: runs on a season high five home runs to beat
- 8:46Speaker 2: the Dodgers, only one hit through seven innings, they're behind
- 8:50Speaker 2: four nothing and then they lose. Emerson Hancock was that
- 8:53Speaker 2: his last Mariners start last night. According to ESPN's Jeff Passing,
- 8:58Speaker 2: the Mariners are looking to starting pitcher to land a
- 9:02Speaker 2: right handed batter. We've talked about the right handed hitting.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Well, he's been mentioned quite a bit.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yes, yes, why because he still is under club control
- 9:11Speaker 2: through the twenty thirty season and he doesn't cost twenty
- 9:14Speaker 2: three million dollars like next year, like Luis Castillo does exact,
- 9:17Speaker 2: so that would make him not only more tradable, but
- 9:20Speaker 2: also would fetch you would think, bigger prizes for someone
- 9:24Speaker 2: who would be under club control at relative low cost. Remember,
- 9:27Speaker 2: Hancock was kind of the not kind of he was
- 9:30Speaker 2: the extra starter here that had the plans where that
- 9:34Speaker 2: he was going to start in Tacoma again, and then
- 9:37Speaker 2: Bryce Miller was hurt for the and on the injury
- 9:39Speaker 2: list for the first six weeks with that oblique and
- 9:42Speaker 2: Hancock just shoved in those six weeks, and all of
- 9:45Speaker 2: a sudden, Hancock's in the middle of their plans and
- 9:47Speaker 2: you can't send him down the way He's pitched most
- 9:49Speaker 2: of the season. He's tailed off recently, but even last night,
- 9:53Speaker 2: three runs and he is pitch count cut up in
- 9:56Speaker 2: ninety two pitches and five innings. But yeah, he was
- 9:59Speaker 2: not in their plans. So his emergence when Bryce Miller
- 10:02Speaker 2: was injured has created this six pitchers and the piggybacking
- 10:06Speaker 2: and the six man rotation and all of that. They
- 10:09Speaker 2: would love to trade Luis Castillo, It's just going to
- 10:12Speaker 2: be difficult. At the twenty three million dollars.
- 10:14Speaker 3: He's over right, how much are they willing to eat in.
- 10:16Speaker 2: A team option, and that's right, we're talking about this, Jessman,
- 10:18Speaker 2: You're right. How much is John Stanton The Mariners ownership
- 10:22Speaker 2: willing to eat of contracts of guys and they're not
- 10:24Speaker 2: going to play for him. Owners don't like to spend
- 10:26Speaker 2: money on assets they don't get to use, and that's
- 10:29Speaker 2: what you'd be doing with Castill. That's what a lot
- 10:31Speaker 2: of teams do to get rid of high priced veterans.
- 10:33Speaker 2: They eat the money and pay part of the money
- 10:36Speaker 2: or a lot of the money of the contract that
- 10:37Speaker 2: they give away. The Mariners have not traditionally done that.
- 10:40Speaker 2: We've talked about them as a business enterprise. They keep
- 10:43Speaker 2: their costs relatively low compared to the Dodgers, Yankees, Red
- 10:47Speaker 2: Sox Cubs of the world. They're in the middle of
- 10:49Speaker 2: the pack in spending on team playroll, yet they are
- 10:55Speaker 2: always well recently been in the top ten or so
- 10:57Speaker 2: in revenues business holl is working. They get luxury tax
- 11:01Speaker 2: revenues from the top spending teams, and they don't get
- 11:04Speaker 2: into the luxury tax dresshold to have to spend that
- 11:06Speaker 2: tax themselves. And then you come into situations like Luis
- 11:09Speaker 2: Castile and that's why there's talk about Emerson Hancock getting
- 11:12Speaker 2: traded or George Kirby getting traded, younger players, younger pitchers
- 11:16Speaker 2: who are still under club control. We'll see. The trade
- 11:20Speaker 2: deadline is three pm on Monday in Major League Baseball.
- 11:25Speaker 2: What are they gonna tell he always makes a move.
- 11:27Speaker 2: We talked yesterday that some people in the text line
- 11:30Speaker 2: said Stan pat don't do anything that would be very
- 11:32Speaker 2: uncharacteristic of Jerry Depoto and Justin Hollander here in the
- 11:35Speaker 2: middle of the season. I'm next, we're gonna go talk
- 11:37Speaker 2: about Jamal Adams, jer Old Fred.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Oh hey, now that's like two Jets trade zis.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Kind of thing when it comes to Sam Darnold and
- 11:49Speaker 4: Jamal Adams.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Yes, Jamal Adams in Minnesota. We're gonna talk to Ben Gosling,
- 11:54Speaker 2: he's a Vikings beat writer for the Minneapolis Star Tribune
- 11:57Speaker 2: from Minnesota's training camp. Next on ninety three point three
- 12:00Speaker 2: kJ RFM, Welcome back to the show, Greg Bell, Jessin
- 12:34Speaker 2: McIntyre with you having Seahawks training camp. For the fifth
- 12:37Speaker 2: practice of training camp. Jake Bubbo is not out here
- 12:41Speaker 2: that I can see. He had a leg injury that
- 12:43Speaker 2: I was told might be a hamstring issue that he
- 12:45Speaker 2: misspracticed the last practice they had on Tuesday. Rookie third
- 12:49Speaker 2: round pick Julian Neil also not here. He has a
- 12:52Speaker 2: leg injury. He's misspracticed the last two days as well.
- 12:55Speaker 2: They're in full pads today for the first time. Interestingly,
- 12:59Speaker 2: I just saw Robbie since an inline tight end blocking
- 13:02Speaker 2: doing duo blocks with.
- 13:03Speaker 3: That guy, I can do anything.
- 13:04Speaker 2: He was a two hundred and seventy five pound tight
- 13:07Speaker 2: end for the University of Alabama that the Seahawks converted
- 13:09Speaker 2: to fullback last year. They still had Bratty Russell of
- 13:11Speaker 2: Courses fullback. But Food's doing some tight end work right now.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Doing some Minnesota Vikings work is Ben Gessling. He's the
- 13:19Speaker 2: Minneapolis Star tributing, a longtime Vikings beat writer in the
- 13:22Speaker 2: Twin Cities. He is in Minnesota at Vikings camp where
- 13:26Speaker 2: Jamal Adams has landed. Remember him, What does Jamal Adams
- 13:31Speaker 2: look like as a Minnesota Viking. We bring in Ben
- 13:33Speaker 2: Gessling on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline from Minnesota. Good morning, Star,
- 13:37Speaker 2: afternoon for you, sir.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Yes, just barely afternoon for me. I suppose about almost
- 13:44Speaker 5: ten thirty for you. Guys. But yeah, I hope the
- 13:46Speaker 5: start of camp is going well. It sounds like you're
- 13:48Speaker 5: a few days ahead of us. We are just gearing
- 13:50Speaker 5: up for practice number two here a little later this afternoon.
- 13:54Speaker 5: But yeah, thanks there.
- 13:55Speaker 6: Things are off to a good start here at Twin.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Say, what does Jamal Adams look like? Does he look
- 14:00Speaker 2: thirty does he look thirty five? We have a checkered
- 14:03Speaker 2: history with him out here in Seattle, as you know.
- 14:06Speaker 6: Yes, yes, I mean he looks in shape.
- 14:09Speaker 5: He's excited. I mean we talked with him yesterday and
- 14:12Speaker 5: he sounded pretty thrilled to beat back with Nolan Teasley
- 14:16Speaker 5: to be playing for Brian Flores, and I think that's
- 14:19Speaker 5: probably a lot of the appeal of this for him
- 14:22Speaker 5: in terms of how they will use him. But yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 5: he talked about if they need me be a kicker,
- 14:27Speaker 5: if they need somebody to walk a dog, I'll do
- 14:29Speaker 5: whatever it is that I need to do. So I
- 14:31Speaker 5: would have meagined some of the time seeing.
- 14:33Speaker 6: This versus what things are like with the Raiders may
- 14:37Speaker 6: have him feeling pretty excited.
- 14:38Speaker 5: About this as well. But yeah, I think they're gonna
- 14:42Speaker 5: kind of see what the fit looks like. But they
- 14:44Speaker 5: have a lot of players. They've used a lot of
- 14:46Speaker 5: players that can do similar things to what Jamal Adams
- 14:50Speaker 5: will be asked to do here. And I think a
- 14:53Speaker 5: lot of the early phase of this is going to
- 14:54Speaker 5: be seeing how he fits in that type of a scheme.
- 14:57Speaker 2: We're going to get to that in use of him
- 14:59Speaker 2: in a second. But Ben out here in Seattle, he
- 15:01Speaker 2: was not a guy that came out and said I'll
- 15:03Speaker 2: walk the dog, I'll do whatever you want to do.
- 15:06Speaker 2: He was. He was all that in the bag of chips.
- 15:08Speaker 2: He came as two first round picks and a starter
- 15:11Speaker 2: Bradley McDougal that Seahawks traded to get him from the
- 15:14Speaker 2: Jets about six years ago. And then he comes out
- 15:16Speaker 2: and then he has all kinds of success as a blitzer.
- 15:19Speaker 2: In the very first year here nine and a half
- 15:21Speaker 2: sacks to set a record for defensive backs as Pete
- 15:24Speaker 2: Carroll just sent him blitzing. Then once team figured out
- 15:26Speaker 2: how to block him and blitz him, he was done.
- 15:28Speaker 2: He didn't do anything else in here in Seattle basically,
- 15:31Speaker 2: and became a liability in past coverage. Does he sound
- 15:34Speaker 2: humble to you, I mean, I only use that from
- 15:36Speaker 2: the context that we know him in Seattle, but he's
- 15:40Speaker 2: been around now a few teams in the last few years. Well,
- 15:43Speaker 2: how does he sound humbled or how would you describe
- 15:45Speaker 2: him that way?
- 15:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think the excitement for the opportunity,
- 15:51Speaker 5: which you know, I can only assume is on a
- 15:53Speaker 5: vetmentimum deal. I haven't seen the full details yet, but
- 15:56Speaker 5: I think that's what he was last year with the Raiders.
- 15:59Speaker 5: I wouldn't think that you're signing with a team on
- 16:01Speaker 5: the EVA training camp for any more money than that.
- 16:04Speaker 5: So I think some of the gratitude of being here
- 16:08Speaker 5: probably can be tied into being humble a little bit,
- 16:11Speaker 5: like you say, because whether it's injuries or moving around,
- 16:16Speaker 5: being asked to switch positions, because the question of can
- 16:19Speaker 5: you run enough to play in pass coverage downfield or
- 16:23Speaker 5: playing beef coverage has changed the trajectory of his career,
- 16:27Speaker 5: and I think has changed the trajectory of where he
- 16:30Speaker 5: can make money, how he feels about his ranking in
- 16:33Speaker 5: the league, all of those things. I mean, you cover
- 16:35Speaker 5: this as long or longer than I have, so you
- 16:37Speaker 5: know all these things very well. But it's yeah, I
- 16:41Speaker 5: think there's been a shift for him in terms of
- 16:43Speaker 5: just you're not the guy that's getting traded for two
- 16:46Speaker 5: first round picks anymore. You're the guy that is having
- 16:49Speaker 5: to fight your way onto a roster. And those things
- 16:53Speaker 5: and how quickly they change, I think inherently have to
- 16:57Speaker 5: humble people or add a dose of cold water probably
- 17:02Speaker 5: to the way a guys see things in the possibility
- 17:05Speaker 5: of his career. So yeah, it certainly seemed yesterday like
- 17:08Speaker 5: there's a different perspective than maybe it was at the
- 17:10Speaker 5: end of Seattle, and I have to take the last
- 17:13Speaker 5: The things he's gone through the last few years play
- 17:15Speaker 5: into that quite a bit.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Ben guessling with us from Minnesota Vikings training camp on
- 17:19Speaker 2: the Beacon plumbing high and those things that Jamal Adams
- 17:22Speaker 2: has gone through. He played just in five games in
- 17:24Speaker 2: twenty twenty four, the first season after he left the Seahawks.
- 17:27Speaker 2: He played three of them for the Tennessee Titans, who
- 17:29Speaker 2: released him in the middle of the year, played two
- 17:31Speaker 2: for the Detroit Lions. Then Pete Carroll got him off
- 17:34Speaker 2: to scrap people last year and brought him to Las
- 17:35Speaker 2: Vegas and made him a linebacker. He played in all
- 17:38Speaker 2: seventeen games, but as a linebacker, not at all as
- 17:41Speaker 2: a safety. How does. I'm gonna ask you, what is
- 17:44Speaker 2: Harrison Smith's mysterious situation with the Vikings, and is that
- 17:48Speaker 2: situation part of the reason that they signed Jamal Adams.
- 17:53Speaker 5: I don't think that is directly related, because I think
- 17:57Speaker 5: they've listed him as a linebacker, They've talked about using
- 17:59Speaker 5: him in that context, and I don't think they would
- 18:02Speaker 5: look at him as a Harrison Smith replacement somebody that's
- 18:07Speaker 5: kind of played outfield a lot. Now, Harrison Smith gets
- 18:09Speaker 5: asked to play in a lot of different places as well,
- 18:11Speaker 5: and he gets used as a blitzer or a guy
- 18:14Speaker 5: that's showing those seven up eight up looks that Brian
- 18:17Speaker 5: Floura has likes to use and then drops out of
- 18:18Speaker 5: those things at the last second. I mean, that's something
- 18:21Speaker 5: you see him do a lot. I don't know that
- 18:24Speaker 5: Jamal Adams will have the deep coverage responsibilities if he's
- 18:27Speaker 5: on the field on a regular basis, I don't know
- 18:30Speaker 5: that they'll use him that way. I think some of
- 18:32Speaker 5: this they worked out, like five linebackers in that tryout
- 18:37Speaker 5: session that they brought him in for, so I think
- 18:40Speaker 5: a little bit of this with Blake Cashman and dealt
- 18:42Speaker 5: with a finger injury during Oca's in mini camp. Ivan
- 18:46Speaker 5: Paced has a lot to prove in the inside linebacker position.
- 18:48Speaker 5: They need some depth there as well. I think that's
- 18:52Speaker 5: part of this, and then just type those types of
- 18:54Speaker 5: roles they like that Brian Flora has uses with Josh
- 18:56Speaker 5: Mattelis where is he a slot guy? Is he kind
- 18:59Speaker 5: of a safety of three safety package? Is he a
- 19:03Speaker 5: linebacker that can drop into coverage a little bit?
- 19:05Speaker 6: And then blitz.
- 19:06Speaker 5: I mean they're going to use a lot of positionless
- 19:10Speaker 5: descriptions of players, and I think there's going to be
- 19:12Speaker 5: some of that, probably more so than saying, well we
- 19:15Speaker 5: don't have Harrison Smith here, we got to fill in
- 19:18Speaker 5: another stafy. I don't think it's quite that one. For one,
- 19:21Speaker 5: they still are sending the overtures publicly privately to Harrison Smith,
- 19:26Speaker 5: saying we'd love to see you back here. I think
- 19:28Speaker 5: the question there will be, I mean, towards the end
- 19:31Speaker 5: of the season, how is his body feeling? I think
- 19:33Speaker 5: that was certainly something he was thinking about. And then
- 19:36Speaker 5: you know, he's a guy.
- 19:36Speaker 6: That has gotten married a couple of years ago, has
- 19:38Speaker 6: a couple of young.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Kids already, and it's that thing of do you want
- 19:42Speaker 5: to go back and do this again. So I wouldn't
- 19:44Speaker 5: expect to see him before late training camp, and then
- 19:49Speaker 5: you know, it could be even a little bit later
- 19:50Speaker 5: than that. If he were to decide to do it.
- 19:53Speaker 5: The door is opened for him. The Vikings will love
- 19:55Speaker 5: to see him, but it will be his decision. And
- 19:58Speaker 5: he's always been a guy that him his whole career,
- 20:00Speaker 5: and he would like to say when I retire, I'm
- 20:03Speaker 5: not going to tell you guys. You're just going to
- 20:05Speaker 5: see that I'm gone and you'll figure it out from there.
- 20:07Speaker 5: But I don't expect like a grand announcement from him
- 20:11Speaker 5: one way or the other that will lend any clarity
- 20:13Speaker 5: anytime too.
- 20:13Speaker 6: And that's kind of how he rolls.
- 20:14Speaker 5: And he likes to keep people guessing a little bit,
- 20:16Speaker 5: which is part of what made him fun to cover.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Harris Smith is just turned thirty seven years old. He's
- 20:21Speaker 2: smart enough not to come back in the middle of
- 20:22Speaker 2: training camp. He's going to wait till he all does
- 20:25Speaker 2: come back. That's way. He's the All Pro, six time
- 20:29Speaker 2: Pro Bowl safety. We're talking to Ben Gesling. He is
- 20:32Speaker 2: the Minnesota Vikings beat writer for the Minneapolis Star tribut
- 20:35Speaker 2: on the Beacon Plumbing hotline from Vikings camp. You mentioned
- 20:39Speaker 2: Brian flore Is. We know how creative and attacking and
- 20:41Speaker 2: aggressive he is as a defensive coordinator. What did he
- 20:44Speaker 2: say about Jamal Adams and maybe what role he envisions
- 20:47Speaker 2: for him and what he thought of him.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he is somebody that he's watched his
- 20:53Speaker 5: whole career and certainly Scott into his whole career. A
- 20:56Speaker 5: lot of it is they will try him in different spots.
- 20:59Speaker 5: You know, a lot of it will be linebacker at first.
- 21:02Speaker 5: But yeah, a lot of this, I think is they
- 21:04Speaker 5: know what he can do as a pass rusher.
- 21:06Speaker 6: They've seen some of the things, certainly in that.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Year in Seattle and probably more so earlier in his career.
- 21:11Speaker 5: I think he's only got one sack since he left
- 21:14Speaker 5: the Seahawks, if I'm not mistaken. But there is certainly
- 21:19Speaker 5: an interest in leveraging some of those pass rush skills
- 21:22Speaker 5: and seeing where he fits. A lot of this, I mean,
- 21:25Speaker 5: back there at the first practice yesterday, they're still getting
- 21:27Speaker 5: to know him a little bit and seeing where he
- 21:31Speaker 5: kind of slopped into this defense. But I would expect
- 21:33Speaker 5: to see him move around. I would expect to see
- 21:35Speaker 5: them design some pass rush packages where he's involved. I
- 21:39Speaker 5: mean as we get going here, those things will become
- 21:42Speaker 5: a little more apparent. But yeah, this Brian Lawrence likes
- 21:46Speaker 5: nothing more than players who have experienced a multiple positions.
- 21:50Speaker 5: I mean when you see their draft picks, a lot
- 21:51Speaker 5: of times a guy like Jay Ward who will play
- 21:54Speaker 5: a bigger role for them this year with a corner
- 21:56Speaker 5: in a safety in college. I mean, they look for
- 21:58Speaker 5: a lot of those types of players that have worked
- 22:00Speaker 5: in two different spots because they like to have people
- 22:04Speaker 5: do things from unconventional positions because it makes them harder
- 22:07Speaker 5: to plan for, harder to figure out. And I think
- 22:11Speaker 5: him and the experience he has doing that will map
- 22:16Speaker 5: nicely onto what the Vikings want to do with their
- 22:18Speaker 5: defense as a whole.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Ben, We've talked for ten minutes, and this is probably
- 22:22Speaker 2: your first Vikings piece of work in a couple of years.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Nobody's asking you about a quarterback situation. Let me ask
- 22:30Speaker 2: you what Kyler Murray in of course, after Arizona gave
- 22:33Speaker 2: up on him, and you've still got JJ McCarthy coming
- 22:36Speaker 2: off of his injury that he had as his rookie
- 22:39Speaker 2: year and trying to bounce back still from that to
- 22:41Speaker 2: become the starter. What's going on? What do you sense
- 22:44Speaker 2: is going to happen at the start of the season
- 22:46Speaker 2: and who the Vikings quarterback is going to be.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they had both of those guys taking
- 22:52Speaker 5: rest with the ones yesterday in the first practice. I
- 22:54Speaker 5: would expect we will see that for the first few
- 22:56Speaker 5: days here at least, where they're both getting a long
- 22:59Speaker 5: look with the ones. With the twos. I think there's
- 23:01Speaker 5: going to be times where they're lining up with the
- 23:03Speaker 5: twos and playing against the number one defense. You know,
- 23:06Speaker 5: those types of reps tell you a different story because
- 23:09Speaker 5: you're probably going to be overmatched a little bit. You
- 23:12Speaker 5: don't have Justin Jefferson lining up to help you look good.
- 23:15Speaker 5: I mean, those things change quite a bit, but they
- 23:17Speaker 5: are at this point, I think, pretty committed to seeing
- 23:21Speaker 5: what both of these guys can do. You know, Kyler
- 23:23Speaker 5: Murray probably comes in as the certainly the betting favorite
- 23:29Speaker 5: publicly to win the job, I think, and I think
- 23:31Speaker 5: there's good reason to expect that he'll have a chance
- 23:34Speaker 5: to do that.
- 23:34Speaker 7: J J.
- 23:34Speaker 5: McCarthy will have to show some demonstrable improvement from what
- 23:39Speaker 5: he did last year. I think they want to see
- 23:42Speaker 5: a little more touch on the ball, a little more,
- 23:46Speaker 5: the strange decision making, probably at times, figuring out where
- 23:50Speaker 5: he can take easy completions and not force the ball
- 23:53Speaker 5: down field as much, a lot of those things. If
- 23:55Speaker 5: he's going to win the job back, he will have
- 23:57Speaker 5: to show he's improved there. But they are, I think,
- 24:01Speaker 5: at this point, going to take a pretty long, thorough
- 24:03Speaker 5: look at both of these guys. You know, I don't
- 24:06Speaker 5: think they want to drag this out until September thirteenth,
- 24:09Speaker 5: but I think they're going to take the time that
- 24:12Speaker 5: they feel they need, especially early in camp, to look
- 24:15Speaker 5: pretty thoroughly at both of them and try to make
- 24:17Speaker 5: a decision from there.
- 24:19Speaker 2: It's an easy narrative for us out here in Seattle
- 24:21Speaker 2: to say, oh, the Vikings have buyer's remorse or seller's
- 24:24Speaker 2: remorse and letting letting Sam Darnald go, And you were
- 24:29Speaker 2: there when it happened. When was there any opportunity that
- 24:33Speaker 2: they even tried to bring him back? Did he just
- 24:35Speaker 2: get priced out where the Vikings weren't going to sign
- 24:38Speaker 2: him anyway because of his fourteen and three forty five
- 24:40Speaker 2: hundred yards season there, or they were already sold on
- 24:44Speaker 2: McCarthy so much that it didn't matter. Sam Darnald could
- 24:46Speaker 2: have been Joe Montana reincarnated. They weren't going to sign him.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean the tricky part of that whole thing was,
- 24:54Speaker 5: I mean, they certainly wanted to keep him, but they
- 24:57Speaker 5: knew that the price was going to be a factory wanted.
- 25:01Speaker 5: I mean, they certainly liked the idea of the young
- 25:04Speaker 5: quarterback where he's on the rookie deal and you can
- 25:07Speaker 5: build the roster around him and make everything work with him. They,
- 25:11Speaker 5: with McCarthy coming off the injury, I don't think, wanted
- 25:14Speaker 5: to be completely all in on him. The way that
- 25:17Speaker 5: they ended up being, I mean that the hope was
- 25:20Speaker 5: that they bring Daniel Jones back. They made a push
- 25:22Speaker 5: to get Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones of course said, I
- 25:25Speaker 5: think correctly, Judge it is I have a better chance
- 25:28Speaker 5: to win the job with the Colts than I do
- 25:30Speaker 5: with the Vikings because JJ McCartney's standing and what they're
- 25:33Speaker 5: excited about with him. But Donald, I think it was
- 25:37Speaker 5: they knew a market rate offer was going to probably
- 25:42Speaker 5: not be in their plan given what they wanted to
- 25:45Speaker 5: do defensively, what they're paying justin Jefferson, So was there
- 25:50Speaker 5: remorse to letting him go. Yeah, I mean you talk
- 25:52Speaker 5: to players in that locker room. I think they would
- 25:54Speaker 5: have loved to see Sam Donald back. I think Sam
- 25:57Speaker 5: Donald had become I mean you saw it at the
- 26:00Speaker 5: end of that season where they're lifting them up on
- 26:01Speaker 5: their shoulders and in the locker room they're dousing with
- 26:04Speaker 5: the water bottles up to beat the packers and all
- 26:06Speaker 5: of those things. He had started to build a real
- 26:09Speaker 5: connection with that team, and I think if the money
- 26:13Speaker 5: was not an issue, they probably would have taken a
- 26:15Speaker 5: run of bringing it back. But it was the money
- 26:18Speaker 5: and the fact that if it worked with JJ McCarthy,
- 26:22Speaker 5: they could have that young quarterback to build around for
- 26:25Speaker 5: a while. And we'll see if McCarthy can put that
- 26:27Speaker 5: back together. It certainly doesn't look at this point like
- 26:30Speaker 5: he's got a great chance to do that, But yeah,
- 26:33Speaker 5: I think in the end, Sandarl's doing what he did,
- 26:36Speaker 5: winning a Super Bowl in Seattle and looking like the
- 26:40Speaker 5: Lynch pinned to that franchise for a long time. Yeah,
- 26:43Speaker 5: there are people in that building.
- 26:44Speaker 6: In Minnesota that say, yeah, it would have been nice.
- 26:47Speaker 5: If that happened here. But there's also an understanding of
- 26:49Speaker 5: knowing what they knew at the time it was going.
- 26:51Speaker 6: To be difficult to do it.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Is it too simple to say it cost the GM's
- 26:54Speaker 2: job that decision alone.
- 26:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's probably too simple.
- 27:00Speaker 5: There were other factors that caused Coycy to implemented his job.
- 27:03Speaker 5: I think a lot of it was just how he
- 27:05Speaker 5: was building connections and building the ability to work well
- 27:10Speaker 5: with the department. You know, with scouts, that's coaches, that's
- 27:13Speaker 5: calf people. The draft history was not very good, and
- 27:16Speaker 5: that's part of it as well. But yeah, I think
- 27:19Speaker 5: you know, nobody wanted to watch on Super Bowl Sunday
- 27:22Speaker 5: and see the quarterback the Vikings like, oh, hosting the
- 27:25Speaker 5: Lombardi Trophy with a lot of former Vikings coaches like
- 27:27Speaker 5: Clint Kubiak, Andrew Dunoko, et cetera. But I think that
- 27:32Speaker 5: the GM shift was probably a little more to it
- 27:37Speaker 5: than that. But yeah, now it's Nolan Teasley here who
- 27:40Speaker 5: came off with that Super Bowl with Seattle, and they're
- 27:43Speaker 5: going to try to hope they can bottle some of
- 27:45Speaker 5: that success and transport it East.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Say hi to Nolan Teasley for me, Ben, I appreciate it.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I know you're busy, man. I'll let you get to
- 27:54Speaker 2: your day job. I appreciate you jumping on with us.
- 27:57Speaker 2: We'll be watching Jamal Adams and everything else that goes
- 28:00Speaker 2: on in Minnesota from far. Thank you, sir, appreciate it.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Thanks Greg, I enjoyed it. Thanks for having me. We'll
- 28:06Speaker 6: talk to you down the road.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Yes, sir, thank you. Ben Gesling from the Minnesota Vikings
- 28:10Speaker 2: training camp in the Twin Cities area. On the emergence
- 28:14Speaker 2: out of nowhere, really, if Jamal Adams is a Minnesota Viking,
- 28:17Speaker 2: Nolan Teasley had a hand in that, of course, was
- 28:19Speaker 2: the assistant general manager and in the front office of
- 28:21Speaker 2: the Seahawks under John Schneider when they traded for Jamal
- 28:25Speaker 2: Adams but a half dozen years ago now, and also
- 28:28Speaker 2: talking about the quarterback situation where he says the favorite
- 28:30Speaker 2: is Kyler Murray coming from Arizona.
- 28:34Speaker 3: It's quite interesting it is that JJ.
- 28:36Speaker 2: They put all their stock in JJ McCarthy, and here
- 28:40Speaker 2: they are with Sam Darnold as a Super Bowl champion
- 28:43Speaker 2: in Seattle and McCarthy not even having the job in Minnesota.
- 28:47Speaker 4: I have a couple of Minnesota Vikings fans friends, and
- 28:51Speaker 4: they are not not.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Happy at all.
- 28:55Speaker 4: But they also weren't happy with Sam there, so you know, oh,
- 29:00Speaker 4: like pick your poison, dude.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Okay, they were happy.
- 29:02Speaker 2: For him now, they were happy to the very end.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Right, Yes, exactly came into we should have done that
- 29:08Speaker 4: for us is what their thing is. Well, you couldn't
- 29:10Speaker 4: do it, And I'm like, actually, he pretty honestly said,
- 29:14Speaker 4: as we heard with Softy and Hugh, that it wasn't him,
- 29:18Speaker 4: it was the team system and that he didn't do
- 29:21Speaker 4: for everything that he dreamt of in the Super Bowl.
- 29:24Speaker 2: What I'm saying right in front of me here at
- 29:26Speaker 2: the Virginia Mason Athletic practice site, Seahawks camp is already
- 29:30Speaker 2: underwegh in full pads. Robbie Oot's interesting to me that
- 29:33Speaker 2: he was an inline tight end and a walking drill
- 29:36Speaker 2: with the offensive tackles just a few minutes ago. I
- 29:38Speaker 2: hadn't seen that he's been at fullback since the Seahawks
- 29:42Speaker 2: drafted him out of Alabama, But he was a two
- 29:43Speaker 2: hundred and seventy four pounds tight end at Alabama that
- 29:47Speaker 2: they converted to fullback last year. This is a fullback
- 29:50Speaker 2: centric offense that Brian Fleury's bringing in the Shanahan system
- 29:54Speaker 2: from San Francisco is just like Clint Kubiacs. But now
- 29:58Speaker 2: I mean they still have Brady Russell and the team
- 30:00Speaker 2: who plays fullback as well and has played some tight end.
- 30:03Speaker 2: It looks like a little multiplicity for mister Robbie Utz
- 30:06Speaker 2: in his second NFL training camp being an inline tight end.
- 30:09Speaker 2: I mentioned earlier Jake Bobo not on the field for
- 30:12Speaker 2: the second consecutive practice. He has a right leg injury
- 30:15Speaker 2: that I've been told maybe a hamstring issue, and hamstrings
- 30:18Speaker 2: sometimes take a while. And then Julian Neal the third
- 30:21Speaker 2: round picked the cornerback who's a versattle guy who can
- 30:23Speaker 2: also play inside and near the line of scrimmage. He
- 30:26Speaker 2: has missed the last two practices with the parent leg injury.
- 30:29Speaker 2: We're going to talk to Mike McDonald after practice today
- 30:32Speaker 2: and we'll be asking. I'll be asking about those issues
- 30:35Speaker 2: of the injury list issues in particular. So they got
- 30:39Speaker 2: full pads and the line of scrimmage play is on
- 30:41Speaker 2: their way between the offense and the defense right now,
- 30:44Speaker 2: and they're doing a run dro right in front of
- 30:46Speaker 2: me with Sam Donald and the starting offensive line against
- 30:48Speaker 2: the first and second team defensive line. It's the second
- 30:51Speaker 2: team defense against the ones right now and Robbie uts
- 30:54Speaker 2: is still an inline tight end in that so.
- 30:57Speaker 3: That's gonna be pretty interesting.
- 30:58Speaker 4: But what is the one thing we talked about yesterday
- 31:01Speaker 4: so much?
- 31:01Speaker 3: The biggest word we used. Versatility?
- 31:04Speaker 2: Yep, more you can do. Yes, that's an adage in
- 31:07Speaker 2: the NFL, and it's certainly true here. Jared Ivy, by
- 31:11Speaker 2: the way, the linebacker last year, the undrafted rookie linebacker.
- 31:14Speaker 2: They kept on the roster and active for every game
- 31:16Speaker 2: and they didn't want to expose him to waivers, to
- 31:19Speaker 2: to practice squad for fear of someone picked him up
- 31:21Speaker 2: because he was that impressive. He's been playing defensive end
- 31:24Speaker 2: with his hand on the ground since the spring. He
- 31:27Speaker 2: just walked out of the training room late without a
- 31:29Speaker 2: helmet or cleats on, so he has some kind of injury.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Apparently he's not practicing either. So that's the update of
- 31:37Speaker 2: health that I can see from my vantage point here
- 31:40Speaker 2: right on the edge of the field.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Only say what you see, Yes.
- 31:44Speaker 2: That's true. Up next is aj Barner, the tight end.
- 31:48Speaker 2: We taped an interview with him. Obviously he's not gonna
- 31:51Speaker 2: talk to me in the middle of practice right now,
- 31:53Speaker 2: but he had a shoulder and also an ankle surgery
- 31:56Speaker 2: after the Super Bowl and is way healthier than he
- 31:59Speaker 2: was at the end of last season. You'll hear it
- 32:01Speaker 2: from aj Barnernecks. At eleven o'clock you're gonna hear from
- 32:04Speaker 2: Cooper Cup. We had interesting things to say about his
- 32:06Speaker 2: new offensive coordinator and about his belief there should be
- 32:09Speaker 2: grass on every damn playing field in the NFL. The
- 32:12Speaker 2: new owners for the Seahawks could affect that. At eleven thirty.
- 32:14Speaker 2: We'll readback your text at four nine, four five one
- 32:17Speaker 2: and the come on Dodgs tex sign or Jessman is
- 32:19Speaker 2: yearning for your toxin.
- 32:20Speaker 3: Yes, give me your voices. I want them.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Hit that microphone that's on the iHeartRadio app or on
- 32:28Speaker 2: ninety three three kJ dot com. Oh, that's coming up
- 32:30Speaker 2: from Seahawks training camp, the Virginia Mason Athletics Center live
- 32:33Speaker 2: on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports Desk, your ninety three
- 32:51Speaker 1: point three kJ RFL sports headlines.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Good morning, Welcome back, thanks for listening. AHI from the
- 32:58Speaker 2: Virginia Mason Athletics Center in Serix. Training headlines brought to
- 33:00Speaker 2: you by Frostbrew CORSEI Chews Chill Seahawks are right on
- 33:03Speaker 2: the field in front of me right now. A first
- 33:05Speaker 2: morning practice of training camp is also the first one
- 33:08Speaker 2: in full pads. The first snap of the first full
- 33:11Speaker 2: pads practice a training camp. The lead running back was
- 33:14Speaker 2: hey Jenarian Price. Let's go rookie first round pick. Looks
- 33:19Speaker 2: like he is moving up to the role that we
- 33:22Speaker 2: all assume he will be in the opener on the
- 33:24Speaker 2: ninth of September against New England. Jake Bubbo not out here.
- 33:28Speaker 2: He missed practiced the other day with what I've told
- 33:30Speaker 2: might be a hamstring issue. Rookie Julian Neale, the third
- 33:34Speaker 2: round pick cornerback, also not out here. He's missing his
- 33:36Speaker 2: second consecutive practice with an apparent leg injury. Jared Ivy,
- 33:41Speaker 2: Brandon Peeley, the nose tackle, Ivy the defensive endslash linebacker,
- 33:44Speaker 2: both of whom just came out of the facility. Looks
- 33:47Speaker 2: like they're not practicing either for some kind of medical reasons.
- 33:50Speaker 2: We'll talk to Mike McDonald after practice and Ian forness
- 33:53Speaker 2: during his show twelve to three. We'll also talk to
- 33:55Speaker 2: the Seahawks head coach one on one. Mike McDonald here
- 33:58Speaker 2: from training camp Barners tonight at the final of the
- 34:02Speaker 2: three game series. In the final game of the road
- 34:03Speaker 2: trip in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, after they lost
- 34:06Speaker 2: four to last night, it was four to nothing after
- 34:09Speaker 2: seven innings when the Mariners had just one hit. So
- 34:11Speaker 2: one night after all that offense, it's back to the
- 34:13Speaker 2: norm the Mariners. Last night. Emerson Hancock eight hits, three innings,
- 34:18Speaker 2: or excuse me, eight hits, three runs allowed in five innings.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Could that be his last start for the Mariners? Rumors
- 34:23Speaker 2: that he potentially could be the chip jaredy Potle uses
- 34:26Speaker 2: to get a right hand at bat before the trading deadline.
- 34:28Speaker 2: In the Major League's Monday at three pm, the WNBA
- 34:32Speaker 2: has fined the Storm and suspended co owner Celeste Keaton
- 34:36Speaker 2: from attending the next five home games after exchange with
- 34:39Speaker 2: two fans during Tuesday's game against the Indiana Fever Climate Pledgerina.
- 34:43Speaker 2: The league confirmed that today, according to multiple reports, Keaton
- 34:47Speaker 2: had admonished a pair of fans who brought signs in
- 34:49Speaker 2: the Climate Pledgerina supporting Fever guard Sophie Cunningham following her
- 34:54Speaker 2: recent comments about transgender athletes. The fans told undividedpod dot
- 34:59Speaker 2: Com that Keaton directed expletives at them for a sign
- 35:03Speaker 2: that thanked Sophie Cunningham for quote speaking up for girls.
- 35:07Speaker 2: The Storm apologized for the incident yesterday. Yep, Coop, go ahead.
- 35:13Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Oh no, I I was just gonna say that was
- 35:16Speaker 4: an interesting thing to see how that all played out
- 35:20Speaker 4: and a co owner doing something like that.
- 35:23Speaker 8: It was.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Interesting to say the least.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Back out here at Seahawks training camp, it's one on
- 35:29Speaker 2: one passers drills right in front of me, which is
- 35:31Speaker 2: the most football it gets out of full pads. Cooper
- 35:34Speaker 2: cups not taking part of that. He's over on the
- 35:36Speaker 2: other end of the field catching passes from Sam Darnold
- 35:38Speaker 2: like he always does. The two time Super Bowl MVP.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I asked him in the off season, were you thinking
- 35:43Speaker 2: about going out on the high, going out at on
- 35:46Speaker 2: top with winging a second Super Bowl, going to your family,
- 35:49Speaker 2: go back to Yakamon with your kids. And he looked
- 35:52Speaker 2: at me like I had three heads, said, no way,
- 35:54Speaker 2: still love it, Still do it.
- 35:55Speaker 4: I saw him crush us when I say us at
- 35:59Speaker 4: the Koog's when he was over at EWU, So yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Right, that's right. He was a Walter Payton Player of
- 36:05Speaker 2: the Year in Division one Double AFCs at Eastern Washington.
- 36:09Speaker 2: He wanted to be a Washington Husky like his grandfather,
- 36:12Speaker 2: and Husky didn't even recruit him.
- 36:14Speaker 4: And he had a chance to leave before his final year.
- 36:19Speaker 4: He had a chance to leave, he was getting recruited.
- 36:21Speaker 4: He transfer portal and or whatever he had the ability to.
- 36:26Speaker 4: I don't know if the portal was necessarily open at
- 36:28Speaker 4: that time, but he was like, now his quarterback left
- 36:32Speaker 4: and he goes, I don't do that.
- 36:35Speaker 2: Cooper Cups spoke at length and was interesting as always.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Here's what he had to say at Seahawks training camp.
- 36:40Speaker 2: All right, Coop, picture of this.
- 36:43Speaker 9: You've got multiple billions of dollars you're gonna buy the Seahawks.
- 36:47Speaker 9: What is the first thing you do other than giving
- 36:50Speaker 9: yourself a raise?
- 36:52Speaker 8: Was the first thing I do?
- 36:54Speaker 10: I go and ask Mike what's the thing that he
- 36:58Speaker 10: needs for the team?
- 37:02Speaker 5: What do you think you?
- 37:03Speaker 8: I feel like you wanted it more dynamic answer than that.
- 37:06Speaker 9: What would you what would you want to see happen
- 37:08Speaker 9: for a football.
- 37:09Speaker 2: Team that you own? I don't know.
- 37:12Speaker 10: Yeah, well, because I think the coach probably knows what
- 37:15Speaker 10: the team needs more than I do, So I'd go
- 37:19Speaker 10: talk to Mike and then I'd say, what do you
- 37:21Speaker 10: guys need? What what's what's gonna help move the needle,
- 37:25Speaker 10: and then I make sure that got done.
- 37:29Speaker 2: That's fail early about what you can see people right now,
- 37:34Speaker 2: a lot of.
- 37:37Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I think it's it's good.
- 37:39Speaker 10: There's like enough of a challenge of new things that
- 37:42Speaker 10: are added in the guys have to say on top
- 37:45Speaker 10: of stuff.
- 37:46Speaker 8: Right, Like, I think the the danger you fall into.
- 37:48Speaker 10: Is you you have guys come in that just feel
- 37:50Speaker 10: like you're running the same exact thing, and you.
- 37:54Speaker 8: Get complacent. You think you know the details, think you
- 37:56Speaker 8: know the stuff.
- 37:57Speaker 10: And so there's enough new things that keep people on
- 37:59Speaker 10: their toe and it's fortunately getting your book, it's fortunate
- 38:01Speaker 10: to ask questions and forcing you to understand and master
- 38:05Speaker 10: what we're doing.
- 38:07Speaker 8: So I've enjoyed that.
- 38:09Speaker 10: I've enjoyed the the challenge of that, and you know,
- 38:13Speaker 10: I think the coach are doing a great job of
- 38:15Speaker 10: getting you know, we're only a few a few days
- 38:17Speaker 10: in here, but we've got a lot of stuff in
- 38:18Speaker 10: but being willing to answer questions, you know, we we've
- 38:21Speaker 10: had to.
- 38:21Speaker 8: I think we've installed really quickly.
- 38:24Speaker 10: But now we've got the opportunity to you know, dive
- 38:27Speaker 10: into things the depth that we're that we want and
- 38:29Speaker 10: we need.
- 38:30Speaker 8: I know that's coming now.
- 38:32Speaker 11: During the scrimmage, I saw you talking to order and
- 38:35Speaker 11: when you're showing you some some moves that just can
- 38:39Speaker 11: we just talk about the enjoyment you have a dad
- 38:41Speaker 11: and him asking and you giving back.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:44Speaker 10: Well, just like I was saying before about you know,
- 38:46Speaker 10: coaches being open to having you know, being asked questions
- 38:50Speaker 10: and having to explain things. I think the you know,
- 38:54Speaker 10: one of the more missed things that people don't emphasize
- 38:58Speaker 10: is there another coach the player communication, but there's also
- 39:00Speaker 10: player to player communication.
- 39:02Speaker 8: And you know, I've.
- 39:05Speaker 10: You know, been blessed to play this game for quite
- 39:07Speaker 10: a while and be able to see quite a few
- 39:09Speaker 10: different things. And I love being able to talk to
- 39:12Speaker 10: you guys about ball and and guys that are interested
- 39:14Speaker 10: in it and are asking good questions and want to know.
- 39:17Speaker 10: I love being able to you know, step into that
- 39:20Speaker 10: that role and be able to help him out. And
- 39:22Speaker 10: and so we talked about all the time here. You know,
- 39:24Speaker 10: being twelve is one mob tize all the things that
- 39:27Speaker 10: we live about, live and breathe. You know, it's about
- 39:31Speaker 10: the collective being better. How does the collective get better?
- 39:35Speaker 10: And that's that becomes with, you know, rooting for the
- 39:37Speaker 10: guys next to you.
- 39:38Speaker 12: I've heard several guys talk about Brian Floyd that he
- 39:40Speaker 12: has really high expectations. I imagine every coach probably dies.
- 39:44Speaker 2: But how does that show up with him?
- 39:45Speaker 8: I guess what kind of Yeah, Well, I think you'd
- 39:47Speaker 8: be surprised. I don't think. I don't.
- 39:49Speaker 10: I think it can be easy for coaches to kind
- 39:51Speaker 10: of get like I said, you know, complacency is a
- 39:53Speaker 10: dangerous word, but to get comfortable with, you know, things
- 39:57Speaker 10: being run a certain way, and you know, I think
- 39:59Speaker 10: that that is something that Brian's like, Brian knows he
- 40:02Speaker 10: has a great vision. He's seen a lot of really
- 40:04Speaker 10: good football, and so he has an expectation for us.
- 40:08Speaker 8: And we don't hit that expectation.
- 40:09Speaker 10: You just you're you're it's gonna be Hey, this isn't
- 40:11Speaker 10: this isn't how we're gonna do it. This is how
- 40:13Speaker 10: we're gonna do it though, And you know there's, uh,
- 40:15Speaker 10: there's coaching there involved with that, and.
- 40:17Speaker 8: And that's what we want.
- 40:18Speaker 10: Be Wan'll be always moving forward, Eagles always always moving forwards.
- 40:22Speaker 8: One percent better every day.
- 40:23Speaker 12: You said, there's enough differences to keep guys on there,
- 40:25Speaker 12: because what about this offense fields are most different?
- 40:31Speaker 10: Well, I can't tell you all that, right, it was
- 40:35Speaker 10: like the same thing last year. But yeah, I mean,
- 40:38Speaker 10: I guess we can go back to that. Like you know,
- 40:40Speaker 10: the the wing tea stuff that we've got in is fantastic, right,
- 40:44Speaker 10: Like I like the dynamic like you know, receivers and
- 40:47Speaker 10: three point stances. I guess gonna be good. So yeah, no,
- 40:51Speaker 10: there there's enough stuff. There's enough stuff that I think,
- 40:53Speaker 10: you know, he but we know where he came from.
- 40:56Speaker 10: But also there's like he's been there enough time to
- 40:58Speaker 10: be also grab some stuff like hey, here's some things that.
- 41:01Speaker 8: You know we're gonna do different.
- 41:03Speaker 10: There's some details that we want to do that we
- 41:04Speaker 10: want to add in, some wrinkles, mix of things that
- 41:07Speaker 10: we've done well before.
- 41:09Speaker 8: And so there's just, uh, you know, I think there's
- 41:11Speaker 8: a good mesh there.
- 41:12Speaker 10: And he's done a great job of just coming in
- 41:14Speaker 10: with with ideas, great foundation, but new ideas as well.
- 41:17Speaker 9: Are you staying from jail and Milroe in his second year.
- 41:20Speaker 8: Oh, he's done a great job.
- 41:21Speaker 10: Yeah, I think, you know, there's uh, you know, I
- 41:24Speaker 10: think you with that first year, there's a lot happening,
- 41:27Speaker 10: the amount of thinking that's going on. I think he
- 41:30Speaker 10: settled into that a little bit, just letting it rip,
- 41:31Speaker 10: which is awesome, just letting uh some some some balls
- 41:35Speaker 10: go with anticipation that he wasn't last year and it's
- 41:38Speaker 10: been pretty prequel.
- 41:39Speaker 13: See a lot of these pits of systems have different
- 41:43Speaker 13: jumnol If you get a lot of the same play.
- 41:47Speaker 8: How important do you think it is for like all
- 41:49Speaker 8: of it?
- 41:50Speaker 11: I think at this level to sellin half more so
- 41:54Speaker 11: thank than being just solely grossed on the steam stuff
- 41:58Speaker 11: everybody running a lot of missteps.
- 41:59Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean there's there's a balance to it, right,
- 42:05Speaker 10: I think, uh, you know, as a player you need
- 42:08Speaker 10: to be as adaptable as possible, and that's that's part
- 42:11Speaker 10: of our job. And as a play caller, you should
- 42:14Speaker 10: be as comfortable and as much in the flow state
- 42:17Speaker 10: of the you know, subconscious competence as you can be. Right, Like,
- 42:21Speaker 10: I think the best play callers aren't stuck here looking
- 42:24Speaker 10: but they're just calling things. They're just letting the plays
- 42:27Speaker 10: come to them and seeing the game, And so I
- 42:30Speaker 10: think it's important then that they are able to install
- 42:34Speaker 10: and get to us exactly what they see in their
- 42:36Speaker 10: head and how they see the game. Now, there's also
- 42:39Speaker 10: a level to that of like, you know, here, you like,
- 42:42Speaker 10: Sam needs to be able to.
- 42:43Speaker 8: Communicate it to us.
- 42:44Speaker 10: It needs to be clear however that comes across, and
- 42:48Speaker 10: so there's a you know, there's layers of communication that
- 42:50Speaker 10: happened from Brian to Sam, and Sam to the players
- 42:52Speaker 10: and players at the line of scrimmage amongst each other.
- 42:55Speaker 8: So there's always this level to it.
- 42:56Speaker 10: But but that's why I think, you know, Brian has
- 43:00Speaker 10: done a great job of owning all of that stuff
- 43:02Speaker 10: and then simplifying it down to the point like, hey,
- 43:04Speaker 10: this is where Brian's comfortable calling things. Is how he's
- 43:06Speaker 10: comfortable seeing the game and calling it, and this is
- 43:09Speaker 10: how it fits and makes.
- 43:09Speaker 8: Sense for us as players to be able to get
- 43:11Speaker 8: the job done.
- 43:12Speaker 3: How do you feel.
- 43:17Speaker 8: You know, I don't know. Mike's kind of like a short,
- 43:19Speaker 8: stocky guy.
- 43:19Speaker 10: Brian's like tall and skinny, so they kind of have
- 43:22Speaker 10: like this nice little evening out to each other.
- 43:26Speaker 8: Now.
- 43:26Speaker 10: It's it's cool because they're both very like pretty calm,
- 43:29Speaker 10: cool collected guys, which makes it fun to you know,
- 43:33Speaker 10: work with You're like, yeah, you're there's there's a comfort
- 43:35Speaker 10: to bringing questions, bringing thoughts to them as well, like hey,
- 43:39Speaker 10: what do you think about this?
- 43:41Speaker 8: What?
- 43:41Speaker 2: What?
- 43:41Speaker 7: Like?
- 43:41Speaker 10: What do you think this is something that can fit
- 43:43Speaker 10: into in terms of what we're doing. And you know,
- 43:47Speaker 10: but they also which I think will be good when
- 43:50Speaker 10: there are moments where there's gonna be one guy gets
- 43:52Speaker 10: heated because they both do have high standards and there's
- 43:54Speaker 10: gonna be moments of emotion that come through, but both
- 43:58Speaker 10: being able to play off off of each other and
- 43:59Speaker 10: know like, hey, there's gonna be you get you get
- 44:01Speaker 10: too much emotion going out there can be kind of
- 44:03Speaker 10: just a roller coaster of love of emotion. But but
- 44:08Speaker 10: you know, you get good guys that can can play
- 44:10Speaker 10: in this place like you're playing in this place and
- 44:12Speaker 10: not in this one. It's fool to see and they've
- 44:15Speaker 10: got a great relationship just in the short time they've
- 44:17Speaker 10: been together.
- 44:17Speaker 12: So since this is like your tied through a love
- 44:19Speaker 12: with training camp whatever it is, do they all feel
- 44:22Speaker 12: the same or do you do something different in every
- 44:23Speaker 12: training camp or no.
- 44:24Speaker 8: They feel pretty similar. I mean the first one is
- 44:27Speaker 8: always super different.
- 44:30Speaker 10: Is the one that stands out like your a rookie
- 44:31Speaker 10: year and you're just not sure what's you know, you
- 44:34Speaker 10: have no idea, you have no idea what's gonna be like.
- 44:37Speaker 10: But after that first one, it's kind of like it's
- 44:38Speaker 10: the same kind of thing. You know, like training camp
- 44:41Speaker 10: is what six weeks long?
- 44:42Speaker 2: Is that? Right?
- 44:43Speaker 8: Six six seven weeks?
- 44:44Speaker 10: So I'm like a little over a year of training camp,
- 44:49Speaker 10: NFL training camp for my life, you know. So it's
- 44:53Speaker 10: it feels a little bit like Groundhog's Day, but you
- 44:56Speaker 10: know that I think the battle is not letting it
- 44:58Speaker 10: be too much.
- 44:59Speaker 8: Like you don't get too much into that.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Right, you know.
- 45:00Speaker 10: I show up a great challenge and Mike does a
- 45:03Speaker 10: great job of making sure you got to come to work
- 45:05Speaker 10: every day.
- 45:05Speaker 8: Uh, you know with your lunch pill and hard hat.
- 45:09Speaker 2: At this point in your career, pop were how big
- 45:11Speaker 2: of pri wishness when it made a play with grass?
- 45:17Speaker 8: I mean, that would be sweet. What do you laugh at, guys?
- 45:21Speaker 8: I just I don't know.
- 45:22Speaker 2: I I just.
- 45:25Speaker 8: It would be awesome. I've been vocal about it in
- 45:27Speaker 8: the past.
- 45:29Speaker 10: There's so many moving parts which I get. I I
- 45:35Speaker 10: just would love, like, really, what we need to do
- 45:37Speaker 10: there's a great crew that works out and that set
- 45:40Speaker 10: shut out there. It's a great crew that out there
- 45:43Speaker 10: keeps this grass really nice, and just go ask them like, hey,
- 45:45Speaker 10: what would it take like, what is it like? What
- 45:47Speaker 10: is it really like? What would it look like together?
- 45:49Speaker 10: I don't know the grassology of all that stuff, right, Like,
- 45:55Speaker 10: you got soccer teams playing on it, you got a
- 45:57Speaker 10: lot of stuff happening, You've got events being hosted. I
- 46:01Speaker 10: would like to think with all the resources of the
- 46:04Speaker 10: NFL that we can make that happen. But yeah, there's
- 46:09Speaker 10: there's there's people that can make that happen. We're just
- 46:13Speaker 10: gonna keep, you know, as players keep voicing what we
- 46:15Speaker 10: what we want and what we think is important. But
- 46:18Speaker 10: you know, eventually, I do think it will get done.
- 46:24Speaker 10: It makes a huge difference. And I know all the
- 46:26Speaker 10: metrics and all the data that says, you know, whatever
- 46:29Speaker 10: the injury rates of this, but like, I don't know.
- 46:32Speaker 2: I mean, I.
- 46:37Speaker 8: Know how I feel.
- 46:38Speaker 10: I think you asked a lot of players would say
- 46:39Speaker 10: the same thing, like whether whether the injury rates change
- 46:42Speaker 10: or not.
- 46:42Speaker 8: I know how my body feels. I have to play
- 46:44Speaker 8: on turf versus grass.
- 46:45Speaker 10: You can ask the coaches how their backs feel after
- 46:48Speaker 10: standing on turf versus grass. Right, it's like that's a
- 46:52Speaker 10: that's a Now they've got coaches have a lot of
- 46:54Speaker 10: other issues.
- 46:55Speaker 8: So but but they but it does make a.
- 46:58Speaker 10: Differences in terms of, well, the coliseum, the colisseum for
- 47:06Speaker 10: a few years there, and you know there there's college
- 47:10Speaker 10: I mean that's it's southern California, but you know there's colleges.
- 47:12Speaker 10: We're playing on that quite a bit. I'm sure they
- 47:15Speaker 10: had events and things like that. So it's possible. I
- 47:18Speaker 10: know it's possible. It's just uh, you know, it's a
- 47:20Speaker 10: conversation that needs to continue.
- 47:22Speaker 9: With all the movement towards multiple tight ends, multiple backs,
- 47:25Speaker 9: just have your personal fewer receivers on the field, how
- 47:27Speaker 9: do you keep from tipping what plays you're doing depending
- 47:31Speaker 9: on which receivers are out on the field.
- 47:33Speaker 10: Well, I think that's where you know, as receivers, we
- 47:36Speaker 10: need to do a good job of making sure we
- 47:38Speaker 10: can be you know, you know, multi faceted in terms
- 47:42Speaker 10: of what we're what we what we do. We can't
- 47:43Speaker 10: be we can't get stuck in this place where we
- 47:45Speaker 10: only do one thing. And it's also on the you know,
- 47:48Speaker 10: our our play callers and our offensive coaches to make
- 47:50Speaker 10: sure that we're not you know, creating tendencies in that
- 47:53Speaker 10: way as well, because you know, defenses of coaches, there's
- 47:56Speaker 10: not the amount of time that's spent and looking for
- 47:58Speaker 10: tendencies and things like any edge. This game's too hard,
- 48:02Speaker 10: you know, fighting uphill and you can't be fighting uphill battles.
- 48:05Speaker 10: So you know, that's something that we need to be
- 48:07Speaker 10: aware of. We need to make sure that we're taking
- 48:08Speaker 10: into account and as receivers, we need to make sure
- 48:10Speaker 10: that we're doing everything we can when we asked the block,
- 48:12Speaker 10: we got blocked, and we rask.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Go down the field.
- 48:14Speaker 10: We go down the field and we make effective plays
- 48:16Speaker 10: down there and you know, and all the things in
- 48:19Speaker 10: between with that. So that that's, uh, that goes hand
- 48:22Speaker 10: in hand with us doing our job and the coach
- 48:24Speaker 10: is doing a great job bring us in those positions.
- 48:32Speaker 3: And there you go.
- 48:33Speaker 4: Cooper cup f from training camp man, he had a
- 48:36Speaker 4: lot to say. And Greg Bell is being enthralled right
- 48:40Speaker 4: now by I think the Blue Angels practice which is
- 48:43Speaker 4: happening right outside at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. Uh,
- 48:49Speaker 4: this is Jasaman McIntyre being rejoined by Greg Bell right now,
- 48:54Speaker 4: and Greg, I thought that Cooper Cup had some pretty
- 48:58Speaker 4: interesting things to say about grass.
- 49:00Speaker 2: First turf, he said, I know it can be done well.
- 49:03Speaker 3: He even talked about coaches.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yeah, he's talked about it before. And that's
- 49:12Speaker 2: kind of why I started the questioning the line of
- 49:14Speaker 2: questioning I did, so somebody on Twitter x that I
- 49:17Speaker 2: was goading him into those answers. I was not. I
- 49:19Speaker 2: knew that he had talked before and was spoke, had
- 49:22Speaker 2: spoken out against grass and or against turf. And he's
- 49:27Speaker 2: played his career except for when the Rams played at
- 49:29Speaker 2: the Los Angeles Colisseum. He's played on turf. It's so
- 49:33Speaker 2: far and now Seattle and Eastern Washington. But when the
- 49:36Speaker 2: Rams are the Colisseum. You heard Cooper Cup mentioned they
- 49:40Speaker 2: still had all kinds of incidents. They had a NASCAR
- 49:43Speaker 2: race in the Los Angeles Coliseum when the Rams. Yeah,
- 49:48Speaker 2: So his point is they could do it. They have
- 49:51Speaker 2: concerts and he even said, hey, look at the dudes
- 49:57Speaker 2: at the end of the field here that the guys
- 49:59Speaker 2: say they practice on grass, natural grass in January in
- 50:04Speaker 2: the rain. Here. McDonald leading into the Super Bowl last year,
- 50:07Speaker 2: had them outside the entire season, including in sideways, rain
- 50:10Speaker 2: and forty degrees. It's possible. It just takes money, and
- 50:14Speaker 2: that's why the owners haven't done it. That if no
- 50:16Speaker 2: one in the NFL makes the owners do it, they
- 50:18Speaker 2: won't do it. Fifteen of the thirty owners have grass fields.
- 50:23Speaker 2: The other fifteen haven't been compelled to, so they're not
- 50:26Speaker 2: doing it because why would you cut into your own revenues.
- 50:29Speaker 2: That's local revenue that you're taking away. You're spending money
- 50:32Speaker 2: on your own field. And if you're not forced by
- 50:36Speaker 2: the league or a collective barty agreement or anybody else,
- 50:38Speaker 2: then why would you give up some of your billions
- 50:40Speaker 2: of dollars of revenue? The Green Bay Packers last week
- 50:44Speaker 2: Jessman issued their annual report. It's the only NFL team
- 50:48Speaker 2: who opens its books to the public. Why do they
- 50:50Speaker 2: do that? Of course, because the Packers are the only
- 50:52Speaker 2: team publicly owned.
- 50:53Speaker 3: I found my hometown on their wall.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Yes, yes, right, yeah, because everybody everywhere has shares of
- 51:01Speaker 2: the Packers. Yes, but because they are publicly owned, they
- 51:04Speaker 2: are required to file their financials.
- 51:07Speaker 3: Every year, which is awesome.
- 51:09Speaker 2: They have a stockholder meeting and all the fans that
- 51:12Speaker 2: own stocks are shares, are invited to come to Green
- 51:15Speaker 2: Bay and here from the president and the general manager.
- 51:20Speaker 2: It's unlike any other place in the NFL for many reasons,
- 51:23Speaker 2: including that one. But as such they have to open
- 51:26Speaker 2: their books. The books showed that the Packers last year
- 51:29Speaker 2: made four hundred and twenty three million dollars just in
- 51:34Speaker 2: national revenue and licensing media rights, the revenue that all
- 51:39Speaker 2: thirty two teams share. So what's that mean. The Seahawks
- 51:41Speaker 2: made four hundred and twenty three million dollars last year
- 51:44Speaker 2: in national revenue, licensing and media rights we talked before.
- 51:50Speaker 2: It's the delta above those national rights. That's where teams
- 51:53Speaker 2: separate themselves. The local revenue in the stadium and signage
- 51:58Speaker 2: and in local advertising agreen that's where they make their money.
- 52:02Speaker 2: So it would take out of those local revenues owners
- 52:06Speaker 2: putting in new grass that costs some money. It cost
- 52:09Speaker 2: some new money to redo the grass and to reinstall
- 52:11Speaker 2: grass fields like Pittsburgh does in the middle of the season.
- 52:15Speaker 2: The point is it can be done. The question isn't
- 52:17Speaker 2: can it be done? It's in the Northwest and the
- 52:19Speaker 2: winner in the rain. The question is will it be done?
- 52:22Speaker 2: And the new owners, the Kosala family, have an opportunity here,
- 52:26Speaker 2: and I'm not saying it's going to be as soon
- 52:28Speaker 2: as they get here. They have a lease that's still
- 52:30Speaker 2: running through twenty thirty, and then there's three ten year
- 52:33Speaker 2: options on the lease from Lumenfield in ten year blocks
- 52:36Speaker 2: that the Seahawks and Lumenfield can exercise after twenty thirty.
- 52:40Speaker 2: But I'm saying sometime eventually, if not before, in a
- 52:45Speaker 2: new CBA, the current CBA in the NFL NS in
- 52:47Speaker 2: twenty thirty. I think my opinion from covering this league
- 52:51Speaker 2: and talking to players who say their quality of life
- 52:54Speaker 2: is affected by turf games and that they feel so different.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Like Cooper Cup said, I think it should be a
- 53:00Speaker 2: elective bargain issue and players should say, hey, if you
- 53:02Speaker 2: want an eighteenth game, or you want all these other things, owners,
- 53:06Speaker 2: put in grass, We'll start talking about an eighteenth game
- 53:09Speaker 2: or anything else if you put in grass on every field.
- 53:11Speaker 2: And they've yet, they've been reluctant to do that so far.
- 53:15Speaker 2: They just talk in this rhetoric and JT. Tretdor, the
- 53:18Speaker 2: union president, talks about how the players don't want turf
- 53:21Speaker 2: and but they don't go to the mat on a
- 53:24Speaker 2: CBA negotiation over it, and I think that's what it's
- 53:26Speaker 2: going to take for somebody to mandate teams to put
- 53:30Speaker 2: in grat Do you.
- 53:31Speaker 3: Think that would rank in their prioritization.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. Yes, for veteran players, it's higher
- 53:37Speaker 2: than younger players, right.
- 53:38Speaker 3: And they have the bigger say the veterans.
- 53:41Speaker 2: Well, they do in voice, but they don't in voting
- 53:45Speaker 2: because the younger players the rank and file minimum salary.
- 53:48Speaker 2: Young guys make up sixty plus percent of the union.
- 53:51Speaker 2: That's why the last CBA got ratified because the owners
- 53:54Speaker 2: split the union. They raised the minimum salary from four
- 53:57Speaker 2: hundred eighty thousand to seven hundred and forty thousand, a
- 53:59Speaker 2: huge jump. So a twenty three, twenty four year old,
- 54:02Speaker 2: undrafted rookie said, wait a minute, you want me to
- 54:04Speaker 2: vote for a deal that will increase me from four
- 54:07Speaker 2: to eighty to seven forty Sign me up for that.
- 54:09Speaker 2: They didn't care about everything else. They didn't care about
- 54:11Speaker 2: the extra regular season game. They didn't care about the
- 54:13Speaker 2: drug testing policies. They didn't care about Roger Goodell's wide
- 54:16Speaker 2: sweeping powers, the discipline like the veterans did, or the
- 54:19Speaker 2: pension plans or the quality life issues after playing. The
- 54:23Speaker 2: veterans did, and the veterans hated the old the CBA
- 54:26Speaker 2: that got signed into twenty twenty one. So it'll take
- 54:31Speaker 2: the younger players to get on board because they have
- 54:34Speaker 2: the voting block, they take the majority of the vote.
- 54:36Speaker 2: It only takes a majority vote to ratify a CBA,
- 54:39Speaker 2: and in fact it only ratified by a couple hundred vote.
- 54:42Speaker 2: I save one hundred and ninety votes or something like
- 54:44Speaker 2: that over thousands of players. My point, long winded point
- 54:47Speaker 2: of all this is the Seahawks owners, the new owners
- 54:50Speaker 2: can affect this if they want to. Will they be
- 54:53Speaker 2: compelled to? Will they want to do it anyway without
- 54:55Speaker 2: being compelled to be friends with their players. This isn't
- 54:58Speaker 2: something that's going to happen this year. You're next year
- 55:00Speaker 2: when I have grass and luminfield next two years. I'm
- 55:03Speaker 2: not saying that down the road, yes, I'm talking long
- 55:06Speaker 2: term down the road. You heard with side Cooper cup
- 55:09Speaker 2: Sides on the fat Yes.
- 55:12Speaker 4: And also just because you're out there doesn't mean we're
- 55:15Speaker 4: not giving away some bucks because we have a big
- 55:18Speaker 4: Bucks contest going on the eleven am hour for this Thursday,
- 55:23Speaker 4: July thirtieth is preset, as in preset your.
- 55:27Speaker 3: Reset to us.
- 55:29Speaker 4: Please listen every preset. It's pretty easy to spell. I'm
- 55:33Speaker 4: not going to spell it out for you, but.
- 55:34Speaker 2: The first time preset has been a keyword.
- 55:37Speaker 3: Yeah, they do rotate a lot of the words. But
- 55:40Speaker 3: it's a thousand bucks on the line here, folks.
- 55:42Speaker 4: So anyway, just if you go to our website, it'll
- 55:47Speaker 4: automatically prompt you ninety three three ukjr dot com and
- 55:52Speaker 4: you just put that word in preset and you're entered
- 55:55Speaker 4: to win a thousand bucks. So thank you for listening,
- 55:59Speaker 4: and thank you. Also one more thing, just got this
- 56:06Speaker 4: from the sports pit. Mike McDonald will be joining Ian
- 56:10Speaker 4: for announced.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Yeah I said that earlier. I didn't get a Ted Copple, right,
- 56:14Speaker 2: lind Well.
- 56:16Speaker 4: I just want everyone to know it'll be in the
- 56:19Speaker 4: New Hour and wanted to make it a headline because
- 56:23Speaker 4: I don't know if we have mentioned it too much,
- 56:26Speaker 4: because you can never announce that too much. So anyway, yes,
- 56:31Speaker 4: Ted Copple, Wow, nice throwback, right.
- 56:34Speaker 2: I used to watch Nightline. I watch I'll watch Alcam
- 56:40Speaker 2: Pannis torpedo his career live on Nightline with Ted Coalk.
- 56:43Speaker 4: Oh man, that was like before social media, you actually
- 56:47Speaker 4: got to watch things happen in real time.
- 56:50Speaker 3: Anyway, I just in the New Hour.
- 56:54Speaker 2: I heard practice supposed to end right around that time,
- 56:57Speaker 2: so it'll be soon after he comes off the practice
- 56:59Speaker 2: film four nine four one is the commodage tex sne
- 57:02Speaker 2: or the talkbacks on the got some talkbacks kids out
- 57:06Speaker 2: dot com? What do you think about grass? Does it
- 57:08Speaker 2: matter to you as a fan? Not that grass?
- 57:12Speaker 3: I was gonna say, you really need to speak.
- 57:16Speaker 2: I got it, I got it. Go in Washington, Ware,
- 57:20Speaker 2: We'll read back your text next A ninety three point
- 57:22Speaker 2: three kJ RFM.
- 57:28Speaker 14: Hey guys, Jack Jamison here regarding Jamal Adams. What are
- 57:33Speaker 14: the memories that sticks with me? Is when the Seahawks
- 57:37Speaker 14: played a primetime game and they introduced the defense and
- 57:42Speaker 14: he said, I'm the best safety in the game. Cringeworthy,
- 57:47Speaker 14: just cringeworthy, just like softy.
- 57:49Speaker 15: My last travel with Jamal Adams was one word, and
- 57:52Speaker 15: it's the same word that can describe his whole career.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Yeesh, I knew that would get summary action if you
- 58:00Speaker 2: asked about Jamal Adams in Seattle. I mean, ycome back.
- 58:05Speaker 2: I'm at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center with Jessmon ncintyre,
- 58:08Speaker 2: Greg Bell. Fifth practice of training camp, first one in
- 58:14Speaker 2: pads and the very first snap from the first eleven.
- 58:19Speaker 2: On eleven of a padded training camp practice, jederary in
- 58:22Speaker 2: Price was the lead running back. Devin Eastern, the rookie
- 58:26Speaker 2: nose tackle from Minnesota seventh round pick, had been on
- 58:30Speaker 2: the physically unable to perform list. He's now off of
- 58:33Speaker 2: that and he is practicing for the first time today,
- 58:36Speaker 2: like the first day in pads. Mike McDonald, Remember he's
- 58:38Speaker 2: talking to Ian Ferness right after twelve. Your chance to
- 58:42Speaker 2: be a part of the show every day at this
- 58:43Speaker 2: time at four nine four one, I'm at Tacoma Dodge
- 58:46Speaker 2: text line. Anything interesting jump out at you, Jessamine.
- 58:51Speaker 3: Oh, I was just gonna tach cople you again just
- 58:54Speaker 3: for five. That was just fun for me.
- 59:03Speaker 4: We did have another entry to our talkbacks, and some
- 59:07Speaker 4: of them are actually still coming in, so but I'm
- 59:10Speaker 4: going to play this one for you.
- 59:12Speaker 3: It's another subject. It's also kind of fun.
- 59:17Speaker 7: Hey, Greg, this is Habu Kou Chief here, and I
- 59:20Speaker 7: think the Seattle Mariners should trade for Jimothy because Jimothy
- 59:25Speaker 7: he came and he gave with that take in and
- 59:30Speaker 7: we need him today.
- 59:32Speaker 2: Oh, Jimothy, he.
- 59:34Speaker 5: Came and we gave with that take.
- 59:37Speaker 7: And we need him today. Air Force rules, Army drools.
- 59:45Speaker 2: I know you would not like the end part, but
- 59:48Speaker 2: you must really love talkbacks if you play that.
- 59:52Speaker 4: I mean, that's fun, that's creative and for people to
- 59:57Speaker 4: take time out of their day to contribute to our
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: show and be that funny and also a reference Jimothy,
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: I mean it was trendy, it was on point, on
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: key too.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: I was with it anyway. That uh so far as
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: what has stood out to me.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: But we do have some people who are interested in
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: the grass and we're talking about field turf people.
- 1:00:24Speaker 15: Just so they made an indoor ski resort in the
- 1:00:27Speaker 15: middle of the desert in Dubai. I think we can
- 1:00:30Speaker 15: make grasswork in Seattle.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Yep, Cooper Cup of Dreams with that. Yeah, it's not
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: a matter of can it be done, It absolutely can
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: be done. A matter will it be done? Yeah, I
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: think that. I don't. That's seems to me be indisputable.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: Yes, go ahead, No, I was just gonna say one
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: can be done. I mean we if we know that
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: you've said it a bunch of times how it can
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: be done, what it can be done, Like, we know
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: it's just money, we have new ownership, and also there's
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: a lot of logistics that will have to go into it.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: From the Tex line four nine four five one at
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Takoma Doodge text line four two five says, no one
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: is forcing them to play football. They don't want to
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: play on grass and don't play.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Okay, oh that's not really feasible.
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: So you're saying that you should just retire from football
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: if your team is artificial turk.
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: Essentially, Yes, I do understand when these complaints come out,
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: and I get it when people hear complaints from multimillionaires
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: complaining about things that don't affect people's regular lives. But
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: this is their life and that is their career, and
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: they do have a say in it. And I know
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: it might seem just innocuous, but no, they should have
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: a say in it.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Two five three. I would wait trade George Kirby to
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: the Cubs for Matt Shaw to play third base for
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: the next five years. I would trade Emerson Hancock to
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: get a left fielder. I would trade Randy Away for
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: whatever prospects we can get and Lastly, i'd bring up
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: Kate Anderson at the same time Hancock. Trade both of them,
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: you'd be cutting two fifths, well two six I.
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: Guess rotation, and I know they're in full rotation now.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: That would be bold.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: I wouldn't do that.
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: The thing about the Cubs is they're trying to get
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: Trek Scouble among the Dodgers and a bunch of other
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: people who would love to have them. But so I
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: don't know if Matt Shaw would even be available to
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: the Mariners if they wanted to trade George Kirby to
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: the Cubs on the same vein two o six. I
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: think George Kirby would be the best to trade. If
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: you can't move Castillo, Kirby, Gilbert Wu. Brian M. We'll
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: all have contracts come up in quick succession. Brian Wu.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: I think he meant, yeah, moving Kirby and keeping Hancock
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: gives the m some breathing room between contacts contracts. Also,
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: when Kirby first came up, I believe they said he
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: basically used two pitch a size things. He's destined for
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: the bullpen. Since I assume he's know Randy Johnson, well,
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: he's evolved since he first came out. Also, he likes
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: to throw mostly in the strike zones, so when his
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: location goes wrong, he's prone to get rocked. Like his
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: last start two five to three. Jamal Adams set the
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: sack record for defensive back because the Seahawks played him
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: as an edge rusher because he was so bad at
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: defending the passol If you look at his win weight
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: against offensive lineman during that season, it was one of
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: the worst in the league. Who got his money and
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: all that was left was a big, talking, underperforming player.
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: I mean, that is what they got.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: And it's unfortunate because one of my favorite plays that
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: he ever made was tackling pat the Patriot, and I
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: know there was like a lawsuit and everything when he
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: did it at the Pro Bowl. I still loved it
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: because I hate the Patriots that much.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Spoken like a Jets fan.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: You know what a self inflicting wound.
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: Right there, we had a late incoming talk pact. I'm
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: going to play for you.
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: Random thought. Did they ever look across the street at
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: the Mariners. They have grass.
- 1:04:10Speaker 8: Obviously it's not football, but they play eighty one games
- 1:04:12Speaker 8: a year there along with concerts and you name it,
- 1:04:15Speaker 8: hockey games.
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: You name it.
- 1:04:18Speaker 8: Where's that been in this whole discussion about grass?
- 1:04:20Speaker 5: Just curious.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: It's fair point.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: They do have contests or concerts, and they have other
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: events beside baseball.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: It wasn't like Taylor Swift here at.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: One point that was a women field.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: Yeah, oh my bad, my bad.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: The no concern four, no concerns on grass? Where did
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: that go? Coming grass in the practice facility is a
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: first step. They don't control women field unless they want
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: to practice on the surface they will play on, which
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: makes sense. Maybe leave one field turf field at the vMac.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: They have a turf field here, it's inside. McDonald doesn't
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: like to go inside because he likes his players to
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: practice in the conditions they're gonna play in.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: I do like that.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: But the reason they don't practice on the artificial turf field,
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: even though they're going to play a home game on it,
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: is because the players don't like it. They don't want
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: to go day day day, day day, and then game
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: all on turf. It's hard on their legs, it is,
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: And people can dispute that, and the NFL can put
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: up injury numbers that say there's no appreciable difference between
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: grass and turf. The fact is veteran players who've been
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: playing on turf for years, over years feel it. And
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: you heard Kup talk about it. He said there's a big,
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: complete difference between how his body feels the day after,
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: in the days in the week after a turf game
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: versus a grass game. He says, I know how my
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: body feels. I don't need any studies to tell me that.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: The fact is that there is money to do this,
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: and nobody's forcing the owners to do it. So they're
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: not doing it, period. That's the end of the discussion.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Until they're told to do it, They're not gonna be
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: forced to do it, and they're not gonna do it.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: There's gonna be half, roughly half the league and including
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: some climates like Pittsburgh and Cleveland and the frozen tunder
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: at Green Bay, for heaven's sakes, is grass. It's a
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: hybrid with turfs and instilled in it and has a
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: very elaborate heating system under lambeau Field. Yeah, Chicago has grass,
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, the whole It's rains here in the winter.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: Yeah, So what it can be done. It's just you know,
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: if and where's the payoff? Is it worth it?
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: That's That's when it comes to investments, right, is is
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: it worth it?
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Forty five has an opinion on the Bryce Miller, who
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: was originally scheduled to start tonight in Dodger Stadium and
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: then Brian Wiu was moved up. Remember the six man
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: rotation gives them some flexibility because of that adequate rest
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: to do these kind of things. But now Bryce Miller
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: is starting Friday night against Tomorrow night against the Minnesota Twins.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Here at the Art and Soto Miller fortune vases. Miller
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: being pushed out a day makes no sense unless they
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: are working on a deal for him, especially with wo's
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: home road split. That's a theory all that. Last night
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: after the game, all manager Dan Wilson said was Bryce
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: Miller needed to be pushed back a day. That's it.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: They didn't elaborate, that's it, and you didn't expect them
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: to four to five. Thanks for all the reporting you
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: do during the Hawks, especially with all the many things
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: you have going on. Can you update us on what
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: the feel is like having hard knocks around. For those
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: who didn't hear your interview with Softy and Dick yesterday,
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: are you making a cameo? No? Laugh? Out loud. I
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: have concern. I have a concern, and this is an
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: distraction for the team. The US Coast Guard listener semper paratus,
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: Thank you US Coast Guard. There is some concern about
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: revealing too much because the cameras are in the meeting rooms,
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: they're in the position rooms, they're in they they're going
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: to handheld cameras walking around the locker room, and the
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: boom mics are everywhere, I mean every huddle, behind the
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: play boom mics are everywhere. I mean they're just overhead
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: recording everything. So there is some concern that Mike McDonald
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: has this culture, in this brotherhood in the locker room.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: He doesn't want the rest of the leagu's seeing it.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: He thinks it's unique and the reason they won the
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: Super Bowl last year. The players think that too, and
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: they just don't want to share that. There is that concern,
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: but the Seahawks do have some editing capability. They get
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: to review the episode about a day and a half
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: thirty six hours or so before it airs. The first
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: one airs on Tuesday, August the fourth. The last one
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: airs on September the first in for NaNs, the Mayor
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: and Maple Valley is saying. Right next to me here
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: at the edge of the practice field, they're still practicing.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: Ian will tell me what he has up next beside
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: Mike McDonald. Just afternoon on ninety three point three, kJ
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: r up. Then he set up to welcome back Greg Bell,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: just to knock and tire. Now Ian Finess here at
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Seahawks training camp and renting right along.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: With my favorite people.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Man, I appreciate that. Checks in the mail. Practice just
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: ended and now we were waiting Mike McDonald's arrival, Nick
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: Bennett's arrival as well. We're gonna go talk to Nick
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Bennette the in our show. We'll play that interview tomorrow.
- 1:09:12Speaker 13: Jealous, man, I'm jealous. Is that one of my favorite
- 1:09:15Speaker 13: guys he's back. I know, one of my favorite guys. So,
- 1:09:17Speaker 13: you know, I was telling somebody when he came back,
- 1:09:20Speaker 13: and so one of the PR guys, I said, it's
- 1:09:22Speaker 13: probably nice to have Avnett back, right, and they're like, yeah,
- 1:09:24Speaker 13: I said, the last year he was here was it
- 1:09:27Speaker 13: twenty nineteen?
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Right, twenty nineteen before they traded into Pittsburgh.
- 1:09:31Speaker 13: Vnette and kJ Wright for US TV nerds Gold go
- 1:09:37Speaker 13: to because anytime they lost I'd ask for those guys
- 1:09:40Speaker 13: and they'd always do it, and uh and kJ became
- 1:09:43Speaker 13: a running joke. He's like, you ever talked to me
- 1:09:45Speaker 13: when we went like, well, probably, but I appreciate you
- 1:09:48Speaker 13: doing this. And Benett was the same way, just a
- 1:09:50Speaker 13: first class guy.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Good dude.
- 1:09:52Speaker 13: I'm curious as to why he's here. He's well traveled
- 1:09:56Speaker 13: since he left. I was going through it. He plays
- 1:09:58Speaker 13: eleven teams, right, I think so? And this is his
- 1:10:00Speaker 13: twelve stop. Yes, yeah, second time here. But I'm just like,
- 1:10:04Speaker 13: why is he this? I don't want to sound that
- 1:10:06Speaker 13: way that tight end room is loaded?
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: Is he here because of the Rams? Download? He played
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: for the Rams the N West? I don't think teams
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: do that, do you? I mean not over?
- 1:10:15Speaker 13: No, I I don't know. It's interesting now you've asked,
- 1:10:19Speaker 13: you got you gotta know. See that's a tight ends coach,
- 1:10:22Speaker 13: that's right. Seven years are the tight ends more involved? Yes,
- 1:10:24Speaker 13: I've already seen it on the field, So there we go.
- 1:10:26Speaker 13: I guess that answers it, right, But there's still roster spots.
- 1:10:29Speaker 13: You are you going to de goot an extra roster
- 1:10:31Speaker 13: but to an extra tight end? Well, let's go. I
- 1:10:34Speaker 13: mean Salbert Arroyo Barnes on the team. Correct, there's three right,
- 1:10:40Speaker 13: call up. He's been the practice squad guy who's been
- 1:10:43Speaker 13: on the fringe. Okay, today they had Robbie Oots in
- 1:10:46Speaker 13: line tight end in Yeah, positioned.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Well, then you got it.
- 1:10:49Speaker 13: Then we're all into the definition. We're getting into the
- 1:10:51Speaker 13: hardcore football world of like who's who is? What's the
- 1:10:53Speaker 13: tight end? Yeah, that's kind of like what's the defensive
- 1:10:55Speaker 13: end of in this defense? That's right, there's the defensive end?
- 1:10:58Speaker 13: Is the rush linebackers?
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: That's what? Right, So it's a whole different deal. But
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: I told Mike McDonald. I asked Mike McDonald about switching
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: Jared Ivy to a hand on the ground defensive end.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: He got very defensive McDonald did, And Okay, oh it's
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: not it's talk about outside rushers and yeah, all of that. Yeah,
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: what stuck out that You gotta look watch a little
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: bit practice than I did.
- 1:11:17Speaker 13: Just seeing the running backs kind of gives you a
- 1:11:19Speaker 13: little bit better field. Jacrdi Wright had a couple nice
- 1:11:20Speaker 13: little runs. I saw he's moved up to get some
- 1:11:23Speaker 13: one reps less. Yeah, so that was good. Uh, you know,
- 1:11:26Speaker 13: he had your obligatory scuffle. Yes, Christian Haynes. I'm not
- 1:11:29Speaker 13: sure who he's involved with, but he got it. But
- 1:11:31Speaker 13: it was very quick and short lifts, so it wasn't much.
- 1:11:32Speaker 13: But yeah, here we go, man do today. I got
- 1:11:35Speaker 13: a guy named Mike McDonald coming on hur segment. Yeah,
- 1:11:37Speaker 13: he's gonna go talk to you guys here in the podium.
- 1:11:39Speaker 13: He's gonna make his way over here. So I'm looking
- 1:11:40Speaker 13: forward to doing that. I haven't talked to him one
- 1:11:42Speaker 13: on one since the day he was hired. Introduced here.
- 1:11:45Speaker 13: We did a little side room over there. A lot
- 1:11:47Speaker 13: has changed since then, has Yeah, I get it. Had
- 1:11:50Speaker 13: a chance talk to the head coach. Pretty excited about that.
- 1:11:52Speaker 13: You know, Sarah Stocking baseball on the one o'clock hour.
- 1:11:54Speaker 13: But the main stay, the headliner, besides the Blue Angels
- 1:11:57Speaker 13: in the background, Greg, I know their navy is Mike
- 1:12:01Speaker 13: McDonald in the first segment today.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: That's coming up next with Ian Vanessa Anderson Hurst, Greg Bell,
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Jessman McIntyre. Thanks for listening. We'll do it again tomorrow
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: from the Virginia Mason Athletics. Do it for day six.
