- 0:18Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast. Nebraska loses fifty six seven.
- 0:27Speaker 2: To Indiana.
- 0:33Speaker 3: That's it, that's it.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Uh huh, I'm done.
- 0:37Speaker 4: I was just saying before we hopped on, I knew
- 0:39Speaker 4: that I didn't get to watch the second half, and
- 0:41Speaker 4: I knew it went south. And I didn't receive a
- 0:43Speaker 4: single text message from Hunter. Thought he might have not
- 0:46Speaker 4: come home from that one.
- 0:48Speaker 5: Almost didn't. You had car troubles too, didn't you.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why we're recording it ten fifteen on a
- 0:54Speaker 1: Monday night and I'm sitting outside in the rain.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Don't wake my roommate up.
- 1:02Speaker 5: Yeah, hilarious.
- 1:04Speaker 2: This is what I deserve.
- 1:07Speaker 5: No more games. That's no more away games.
- 1:12Speaker 3: What what point of the game did you end up
- 1:14Speaker 3: leaving on her?
- 1:15Speaker 2: Like?
- 1:15Speaker 3: How much time was left?
- 1:18Speaker 2: Third quarter?
- 1:19Speaker 4: Oh wow, I'm shocked. Really, I thought you were stuck
- 1:22Speaker 4: it out for four quarters.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I saw enough.
- 1:30Speaker 5: It was rough. Not a great game. Uh, not what
- 1:38Speaker 5: anyone expected.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Mean your offense wasn't. I mean, it's terrible. But the
- 1:49Speaker 6: most shocking barbers or defense, how bad they looked?
- 1:53Speaker 3: They couldn't. Indiana coad scored whatever they wanted.
- 1:56Speaker 4: I tried to send this text before the game got
- 1:59Speaker 4: like before the first snap, but my phone took forever
- 2:01Speaker 4: to send it.
- 2:02Speaker 5: But straight up when we took the fields, like, there
- 2:05Speaker 5: is no.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Energy out there. I was like, we're gonna get killed.
- 2:08Speaker 4: They do not look creaty to play this game. And
- 2:12Speaker 4: then it just went south from.
- 2:13Speaker 3: There, even gout.
- 2:16Speaker 6: Johnson lost the energy about oh, I'd say second quarter.
- 2:20Speaker 6: He had no energy either. He was like, oh, and
- 2:22Speaker 6: he has scored another touchdown. There's no energy f announcers
- 2:26Speaker 6: or anything.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Oh hold on, hold on, hold on. Yeah, they just
- 2:31Speaker 1: scored again.
- 2:36Speaker 5: Rumor has it they're still scoring.
- 2:39Speaker 4: And Hunter can be found at a gas station playing
- 2:42Speaker 4: slots somewhere between here in Indiana.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Pretty much what happened seven am on Sunday. Yeah, game
- 2:51Speaker 1: gets over. We go straight back to the Airbnb, sulk
- 2:55Speaker 1: everything in. Sorry, game didn't get over. We left before
- 2:59Speaker 1: the game got over. Uh, get up to leave at
- 3:03Speaker 1: six am. We make it about thirty minutes down the road.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Car breaks down. Guess what Sunday morning. There's no toe
- 3:11Speaker 1: company awake. They gotta toe our car. Then we got
- 3:17Speaker 1: to get an uber because the only place we can
- 3:20Speaker 1: find a replacement rental is a an hour back east
- 3:23Speaker 1: in Indianapolis. We backtrack an hour after we waited two
- 3:29Speaker 1: hours for the tow truck for an hour uber ride,
- 3:31Speaker 1: so our ten hour trip back home took about fifteen.
- 3:36Speaker 5: At that point almost considered just flying out Indianapolis.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And ticket prices were way too expensive and there's nothing
- 3:43Speaker 1: that would have got us back much quicker.
- 3:46Speaker 2: It was looked at. So yeah, that was how my
- 3:50Speaker 2: Sunday went.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Bundra Palm though, No, that was Bloomington.
- 3:56Speaker 5: What was the pregame like?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, uh, Friday.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Was the best road game I've been on, and then
- 4:13Speaker 1: pregame Saturday morning one of the best Saturday morning road
- 4:17Speaker 1: games I've been on, and then at about eleven fifteen
- 4:23Speaker 1: had the worst next thirty six hours of my life.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Shucks, that is too good man, and I really want
- 4:34Speaker 4: us to beat Signetti.
- 4:36Speaker 5: I really did.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I just got a list of words I want to
- 4:41Speaker 1: read off to you guys.
- 4:43Speaker 5: This is a good.
- 4:46Speaker 1: No, this is this is just this is all I
- 4:48Speaker 1: got for the podcast today. Here's here's my words. Obliterated, embarrassed, eviscerated, dominated, annihilated, decimated, eradicated, disemboweled, dissipated, mortification.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm not sure why I thought of that one? Discomposed, humiliated, demolished, dismantled, squelched, devastated.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Guy's got any other's dad?
- 5:14Speaker 5: Repeatable?
- 5:16Speaker 3: Not ready?
- 5:18Speaker 4: Saturday is coming soon, another big noon kickoff.
- 5:26Speaker 6: There's one thing I read today that I'm like, what
- 5:29Speaker 6: the hell? Matt Rules was talking about how the guys
- 5:32Speaker 6: weren't ready to play. You're coming off of bye week,
- 5:35Speaker 6: how you're playing top fifteen team on the road.
- 5:38Speaker 3: How are you not ready to play?
- 5:43Speaker 2: He did say that we thought we'd play great.
- 5:47Speaker 5: He thought we did stop fighting, so.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Did Signetty One? Team played great?
- 5:54Speaker 6: Yeah, and I'll give Deane. I think they are for real,
- 6:00Speaker 6: like really really good.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yeah. Oh yeah, I mean you better hope you hope
- 6:07Speaker 3: they are is just that bad.
- 6:10Speaker 6: But no, I think they're actually really really I mean
- 6:13Speaker 6: their quarterback guy taking out of the game, they didn't
- 6:15Speaker 6: miss a beat, that backup still towards it.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I didn't even know their backup was in guys, I'll
- 6:23Speaker 1: be honest with you.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Oh he looked good too.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Yeah, he played a good chunk of the second half,
- 6:29Speaker 5: missed one pass.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Didn't know that. I literally literally got by. Oh here
- 6:33Speaker 1: comes the rain. That's just lovely.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I don't. I don't know their starter broke his thumb
- 6:39Speaker 3: or what he did.
- 6:39Speaker 5: But you like, uh, yeah, because Thom was bleeding on TV.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yeah I thought you had to leave for that. I
- 6:46Speaker 3: guess not.
- 6:46Speaker 1: But but yeah, they played about just as good as
- 6:52Speaker 1: Curse Rourke. And that's how I didn't even single digit number. Also,
- 6:55Speaker 1: I was just checked out.
- 6:57Speaker 5: So that's rough.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah I can, I can. I can change my mood
- 7:03Speaker 2: a little bit, but not much.
- 7:05Speaker 5: I mean, you're literally sitting in the rain talking about
- 7:07Speaker 5: his game.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I mean, this is exactly like sitting there watching the
- 7:14Speaker 1: game like I had no words. There's nothing good happening.
- 7:21Speaker 1: We all just like we're watching and we're like, what's happening?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Like Indiana is out coaching and out playing every single
- 7:28Speaker 1: like basically every play in every spot of the play,
- 7:34Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Like what was the bright spot? Name the bright spot?
- 7:40Speaker 2: I do have one? I have one spot.
- 7:45Speaker 5: I honestly don't know that.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Nonny had a good game like that that was the
- 7:59Speaker 6: one that had.
- 8:00Speaker 1: But that's it, Like that's it, that's that's everything.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I was speechless.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I didn't even like to your point, Dak of talking
- 8:09Speaker 1: to me and I still don't. I'm sitting here like
- 8:12Speaker 1: two days later. I'm just like I don't have thoughts still.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I've been scrambling and listening to podcasts and like hearing
- 8:21Speaker 1: what other people are saying and like trying to come
- 8:25Speaker 1: up with my own opinions and thoughts like I did
- 8:28Speaker 1: to myself. We all did, like it's like it's something
- 8:32Speaker 1: that hasn't happened yet, especially under rule. But even since
- 8:36Speaker 1: we've started this podcast, all be honest.
- 8:38Speaker 4: With our second biggest loss in the big in our
- 8:42Speaker 4: era big ten era Z corrects, our first biggest loss
- 8:45Speaker 4: since two.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Thousand, didn't know how to stay bet sixty three or
- 8:49Speaker 3: three or something like that.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Ye, second biggest loss since other ones Ohio State, but
- 8:55Speaker 1: even Michigan when we got blown out by them, like
- 8:58Speaker 1: that was a little bit maybe expected.
- 9:00Speaker 2: This was.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Michigan was like a favorite to win the national championship.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I still am. I'm just like still an utter shock.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And I mean all those words, I guess whatever you
- 9:15Speaker 1: want to say. I mean, embarrassed was a big one
- 9:17Speaker 1: that just kept coming too my mind and over and
- 9:20Speaker 1: over world use that word embarrassed, not the players but himself,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and how that was and he apologized, which it is
- 9:28Speaker 1: what it is, Guys, I will say this, and I'm
- 9:30Speaker 1: not going to go into this deep, so I don't
- 9:32Speaker 1: want to spend the pod guys talking about it. This
- 9:35Speaker 1: was the first time, and I'm not going to be
- 9:37Speaker 1: the only one that says this that you just put
- 9:40Speaker 1: a little question mark after Matt Ruhle's name at Nebraska.
- 9:44Speaker 2: So you don't. I'm not saying you should be fired.
- 9:48Speaker 1: But I the first time I sat there in the
- 9:50Speaker 1: second half and I was like, I was, I was confused.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I'm like, what you know? You want to believe in him?
- 9:58Speaker 2: And still can?
- 9:59Speaker 1: I still do, but I started to think, Okay, and
- 10:03Speaker 1: this is a big topic of conversation. Kurt Signetti comes
- 10:08Speaker 1: from James Madison brings a handful of guys with them,
- 10:13Speaker 1: not the whole roster, but a lot of them.
- 10:15Speaker 5: I think it was like thirteen players thirteen.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Starters or having only eight starters.
- 10:20Speaker 5: Okay, only eight out of twenty.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Two, correct, But many of the more that play guys
- 10:26Speaker 1: that I guess know how to win, which I think
- 10:29Speaker 1: I got overlooked.
- 10:31Speaker 2: It's his first year. Oh guess what.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Indiana's just this tremendous glorious football school, right with a
- 10:37Speaker 1: lot of history and tradition resources, and you know nil
- 10:42Speaker 1: boosters have this crazy sellout streak.
- 10:46Speaker 2: No, like they don't. And you sit there and you're like,
- 10:50Speaker 2: what the hell?
- 10:51Speaker 1: And then I had the kind of the same feeling
- 10:53Speaker 1: with Illinois when Brett Bielima went there and beat us
- 10:56Speaker 1: that opening game a few years ago. Was at that
- 10:59Speaker 1: game too. Uh, It's like, how does this keep? Like, yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 1: just just question it, I guess I I we always
- 11:09Speaker 1: say give it time, give it, trust the process, believe
- 11:13Speaker 1: you know, if you don't give him enough time, you
- 11:14Speaker 1: can't ever fix it. Maybe I don't know, Like I
- 11:19Speaker 1: just I'm kind of at a little bit of a
- 11:20Speaker 1: loss for words right now. Again I'm not saying fire rule,
- 11:24Speaker 1: but this is the first time that I just have
- 11:26Speaker 1: a question mark next to it of that was weird.
- 11:30Speaker 2: So how strange I hear what.
- 11:32Speaker 4: You're saying I did before the game started. I think
- 11:35Speaker 4: this led to the There's two things that happened before
- 11:39Speaker 4: the game started where.
- 11:40Speaker 5: I was like, oh shit, this game is going to
- 11:42Speaker 5: go poorly.
- 11:44Speaker 4: It was one when I saw that guy's go out
- 11:46Speaker 4: on the field on defense and I was like, they
- 11:48Speaker 4: do not look ready.
- 11:50Speaker 5: For what's about to happen.
- 11:51Speaker 4: And two, when when I was watching, they were talking
- 11:54Speaker 4: about the James Madison transfers that came over and the
- 11:57Speaker 4: record that he had at James Madison and that at
- 12:00Speaker 4: OC and DC were with them at James Madison. I
- 12:03Speaker 4: was thinking, you know, because you asked on Wednesday, why
- 12:08Speaker 4: is Indiana where they are when Matt Rules a year
- 12:11Speaker 4: two And I was like, well, Matt Rule wasn't in
- 12:13Speaker 4: college football for two and a half years, and so
- 12:18Speaker 4: he didn't bring any guys.
- 12:23Speaker 5: And I think that that's what's helped Indiana is that
- 12:25Speaker 5: Indiana like there is continuity there.
- 12:27Speaker 4: This isn't their first year. I mean it was their
- 12:30Speaker 4: first year Indiana in a Big ten. Like, I'm not
- 12:32Speaker 4: saying that we shouldn't be better than them, but you're right,
- 12:36Speaker 4: they won a shit ton of games of James Madison
- 12:38Speaker 4: with these guys, they know the system, they know the plays,
- 12:43Speaker 4: and then they were able just to plug in better
- 12:44Speaker 4: players and we absolutely got our shit kicked in. And
- 12:50Speaker 4: I think that's why they're where they are and where
- 12:52Speaker 4: we are where we are. I think that they just
- 12:54Speaker 4: had they have not a head start, but kind of.
- 13:00Speaker 3: One major thing came out of the game.
- 13:01Speaker 6: And and I've been saying this since he got hired,
- 13:04Speaker 6: Scott Saderfield lost his job.
- 13:06Speaker 3: That dude, huh.
- 13:08Speaker 6: What's his name, Marcus, Marcus Sadderfield lost his job. There
- 13:15Speaker 6: is Yeah, I think that Cincinnati's something, But Marcus, he
- 13:22Speaker 6: I've been saying that since he got hired. That dude sucks.
- 13:24Speaker 6: He has no no Creativity's played calls at all. And
- 13:31Speaker 6: I mean, you can't blame it all on the offense,
- 13:32Speaker 6: but you can do anything offensively and you have a
- 13:35Speaker 6: five star quarterback.
- 13:36Speaker 3: How do you not look better offensively?
- 13:39Speaker 1: So okay, I well, first off, I don't think you're
- 13:47Speaker 1: going to see any immediate changes to the staff.
- 13:51Speaker 2: But what the hell did we do for two weeks?
- 13:57Speaker 1: But it was it was just strange and it looked
- 14:04Speaker 1: like the exact same offense. Obviously, Indiana exploited us, and
- 14:08Speaker 1: I'll say it one time, can I'll p forget, but
- 14:12Speaker 1: they kicked her ass in every spot of the game,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and especially out coaches. I do not think Indiana has
- 14:22Speaker 1: that much better of.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Players in Nebraska. I don't think that.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I think they out coached and out schemed us to death.
- 14:30Speaker 1: And Signetti said it before the game in its pregame
- 14:33Speaker 1: interview said, I think we have a good shot to
- 14:36Speaker 1: play well today. He saw something on film and said,
- 14:42Speaker 1: if Nebraska's not gonna show us anything new, which we didn't,
- 14:47Speaker 1: we're gonna win and we're gonna be fine. And that's
- 14:50Speaker 1: with more than what happened. Credit to Indiana. They did
- 14:54Speaker 1: a lot of good things. Now the flip side of
- 14:56Speaker 1: that back to what did we do for two weeks.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Our offense is the most predictable thing in this entire
- 15:06Speaker 1: in it and you sit there and you watch it,
- 15:09Speaker 1: there's very little pre snap motion. That something I've heard
- 15:12Speaker 1: talked about a lot. And we sat there during the
- 15:15Speaker 1: game just watching Indiana versus Nebraska. Indiana's got guys running
- 15:20Speaker 1: all over pre snap confusing. We are very basic. It's
- 15:25Speaker 1: very predictable. When you bring in Alex Bullock on the
- 15:28Speaker 1: perimeter and you put Jacry Barney in the slot, guess
- 15:30Speaker 1: what we're running a jet SUITEP and it's not. Doesn't
- 15:33Speaker 1: It doesn't take a rocket science coach. You figure that out.
- 15:36Speaker 1: It is so predictable on what we tried to do. Indiana,
- 15:40Speaker 1: on the other hand, you never knew if they were
- 15:44Speaker 1: running or passing it and it kept us like it
- 15:50Speaker 1: almost was like we were trying to guess and we
- 15:52Speaker 1: just guessed wrong every time because if they ran it.
- 15:55Speaker 1: There are a couple of times that yeah, maybe we
- 15:57Speaker 1: had we filled the hole and they stopped them for
- 15:58Speaker 1: three yards, but there was a big hole to run
- 16:01Speaker 1: through and sod early on, there are a couple of
- 16:04Speaker 1: opportunities to get off the field.
- 16:06Speaker 2: The first couple of.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Drives, we did the one drive, but once things started
- 16:11Speaker 1: going south, they just kept going south. And that seems
- 16:14Speaker 1: to when that happens with this team, like we're a
- 16:17Speaker 1: team like that wants to play from with the lead
- 16:20Speaker 1: because car Coffins is not great. So to deck your
- 16:27Speaker 1: point on our offense and changing and what we did
- 16:29Speaker 1: for two weeks, I don't know the answer to that,
- 16:33Speaker 1: but something better change moving forward. And I don't want
- 16:37Speaker 1: to spend much of this podcast talking about what I
- 16:39Speaker 1: think for the rest of the year. I think that's
- 16:42Speaker 1: something for a later date and I think someone remember
- 16:45Speaker 1: which guys said it, because by the way, I on
- 16:48Speaker 1: that fifteen hour drive, I listened to every recap pod
- 16:50Speaker 1: you can think of every game is how much do
- 16:56Speaker 1: you judge off of one game? I think every game
- 16:58Speaker 1: in the Big Ten. Do I think we went and
- 16:59Speaker 1: played Indian again tomorrow, would we get beat by forty nine? No?
- 17:03Speaker 1: Would they beat us nine times out of ten? I
- 17:05Speaker 1: think so because I think that they just kicked their button.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I don't have any confidence that we can. But I
- 17:11Speaker 1: do think you cannot look at saying Okay, Iowa is
- 17:14Speaker 1: not very well.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I always looked really good some weeks, really bad Wisconsin.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Now they've looked really good, really bad. Things are going
- 17:19Speaker 1: to change by the time we play these other teams
- 17:20Speaker 1: later on. But I don't want to think about what
- 17:22Speaker 1: this means for the rest of the year yet. But
- 17:24Speaker 1: at the same time, judging off of this game, it's
- 17:29Speaker 1: not that hard to go. We might not make a
- 17:32Speaker 1: Bowl game like it's very easy for your mind to
- 17:34Speaker 1: go there based off of that one game's performance. However,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I am not jumping off the idea that Indiana now
- 17:44Speaker 1: maybe Indiana, but that there's still ten teams in the
- 17:47Speaker 1: Big Ten and we're still one of them that are
- 17:49Speaker 1: in that one big tier that anybody can beat in anybody,
- 17:53Speaker 1: you know, four times out of ten to six times
- 17:55Speaker 1: out of ten. I still think that's a true statement
- 17:58Speaker 1: with these teams that are left in our skins, so
- 18:02Speaker 1: not to overreact, but at the same time, I think
- 18:04Speaker 1: it's I think this game, it's just hard to not
- 18:08Speaker 1: think that way after how bad it got and it did.
- 18:12Speaker 1: It looked like the guys gave up. World didn't think
- 18:14Speaker 1: they did. It just looked like, I couldn't say it. It
- 18:19Speaker 1: looked like kind of that tail end of the Frost
- 18:20Speaker 1: days where it just looked like we had no fighting
- 18:22Speaker 1: to select in that game in the stands now, obviously
- 18:27Speaker 1: score was it was. I didn't stay to the end
- 18:29Speaker 1: of the game, but it just it was. It was
- 18:32Speaker 1: just horrible.
- 18:32Speaker 3: It was.
- 18:33Speaker 2: It was a complete obliteration of Nebraska football.
- 18:37Speaker 5: So yeah, I'm telling you it didn't look like we
- 18:41Speaker 5: were gonna have much fight from the beginning. It really didn't.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Now that, how do you like the all white uniforms?
- 18:50Speaker 6: Oh, I thought it looked really I liked them going
- 18:52Speaker 6: in the game. I was like, yeah, now I think
- 18:56Speaker 6: about Austin. There was like no energy coming out of
- 18:59Speaker 6: that game at all, like the beginning of it. Now,
- 19:02Speaker 6: Indiana looked like they were fired up to be there.
- 19:04Speaker 6: Nebraska even the first drive.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you're like.
- 19:08Speaker 6: Because they got they got the ball first, right, Yeah, yeah,
- 19:12Speaker 6: just no energy on the defense at all.
- 19:14Speaker 1: We differ, what we differ, We've always deferred. We thought
- 19:22Speaker 1: our defense was better than that.
- 19:26Speaker 6: Yeah, well I don't. That's going to be a part
- 19:28Speaker 6: of your your mostest about your defense.
- 19:32Speaker 1: So I agree, Because we just talked a lot about
- 19:35Speaker 1: our offense being very predictable. Yeah, would we have liked
- 19:40Speaker 1: to see some different things off the bye week. Absolutely,
- 19:44Speaker 1: our offense has shown exactly what we did on Saturday
- 19:48Speaker 1: in the past four weeks. Like, so we've seen that
- 19:53Speaker 1: before that part and everybody's talking about the black Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 1: that's it's definitely a big problem, right it is concerning
- 20:00Speaker 1: the part that just took a dagger and shoved it
- 20:02Speaker 1: in my heart and twisted it.
- 20:05Speaker 2: That's pretty gruesome. But uh, it was our.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Defense, the thing, the thing, the thing that we had
- 20:13Speaker 1: our backbone of. And yeah, there were some telltale signs
- 20:16Speaker 1: maybe in a couple of games earlier that like that
- 20:19Speaker 1: was weird. But what in the world was that, like
- 20:25Speaker 1: mistackling our our defensive line, our strength that we I
- 20:30Speaker 1: wanted to give the Platinum Award winner to the Mid
- 20:33Speaker 1: Season Award Show. I saw it from the get go.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Maybe it wasn't pancakes, but they were just moving those
- 20:40Speaker 1: guys nash and tie and getting holes. And then guess
- 20:45Speaker 1: what our linebackers missed in the in the Hannah saw
- 20:48Speaker 1: it all on film and they just exploited the crap
- 20:51Speaker 1: out of it. And our DB's got beat one on
- 20:55Speaker 1: one one. I think it was Nick, Bob and Bo
- 20:59Speaker 1: Rude one of my favorite ones. They talked about football's
- 21:01Speaker 1: kind of breaks it down all it's a lot of
- 21:03Speaker 1: one on one matchups. Right, there's a lot of scheming
- 21:05Speaker 1: in it when you look at it, besides maybe the
- 21:08Speaker 1: quarterback play. When you're blocking somebody, it's a one on
- 21:10Speaker 1: one block. When you're tackling somebody, it's a tackle or mistackle.
- 21:13Speaker 1: When you're defending a receiver, whether you're in zone or man,
- 21:16Speaker 1: when the ball is thrown, it's kind of one on
- 21:17Speaker 1: one receiver.
- 21:18Speaker 3: dB.
- 21:19Speaker 2: We lost every one on one battle.
- 21:21Speaker 1: And again, I don't think that's because they have that
- 21:23Speaker 1: much better players in this I think they have winners
- 21:27Speaker 1: and that's what they recruited and that's how their culture is.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I thought that maybe with where our culture was headed,
- 21:35Speaker 1: but our defense, I'm like, I don't know, remember Tony
- 21:39Speaker 1: White was gonna be the number one commodity on the
- 21:44Speaker 1: market for head coaches this year. And I think it
- 21:47Speaker 1: was Joel class that he's a top five de coordinator
- 21:49Speaker 1: in the country. So that's the part that I'm like,
- 21:55Speaker 1: it really makes me speechless and have all these like
- 21:58Speaker 1: what just ha in the thoughts that right there the offense,
- 22:02Speaker 1: he adds what we've seen that it's a problem, we
- 22:05Speaker 1: need to fix it. But the defense was like, oh god,
- 22:09Speaker 1: that's just not good.
- 22:12Speaker 5: It was rough.
- 22:14Speaker 4: We didn't get any pressure, and I mean Indiana was
- 22:18Speaker 4: making some pretty good catches. Don't get me wrong, Like
- 22:20Speaker 4: we did have some times where the dvs were actually
- 22:22Speaker 4: in a really good position. They just their quarterback hit
- 22:25Speaker 4: an excellent throw, the receiver made an excellent catch. It
- 22:30Speaker 4: was oh man, it was bad. And we also got
- 22:34Speaker 4: benefit of doubt that one called definitely should have been
- 22:37Speaker 4: an interception or fumble recovered that we were able to
- 22:40Speaker 4: snap in that first quarter when we were down in
- 22:42Speaker 4: the red zone.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Yeah, one, I don't know for sure.
- 22:48Speaker 6: Yeah that's for sure a fumble. I don't know how
- 22:50Speaker 6: they didn't review that at all, but in the long run,
- 22:52Speaker 6: didn't matter. But yeah, I don't do you guys, it's
- 23:02Speaker 6: looking like you're it's there's either a game that's a
- 23:06Speaker 6: fluke here or okay, are you guys? You guys think
- 23:09Speaker 6: you guys are closer to the Illinois Indiana team or
- 23:11Speaker 6: the Colido teams. Cordor looks good now and that game
- 23:14Speaker 6: could be a fluke like he's playing ass that game.
- 23:17Speaker 6: Do you guys think you guys are closer to the
- 23:19Speaker 6: team he looked like against Indiana Illinois or the team
- 23:22Speaker 6: you look like when you played Colorado.
- 23:24Speaker 5: It's tough enough to say Indiana because that's the game
- 23:26Speaker 5: we just watched.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I think all those teams are very including us. Well,
- 23:31Speaker 1: maybe I don't know. I still think there a lot
- 23:33Speaker 1: of us are in a tier.
- 23:37Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 23:37Speaker 1: If we play Indiana again, I don't think we're gonna
- 23:41Speaker 1: like spread. I still don't even think the spread would
- 23:43Speaker 1: be twenty. No, maybe I don't know. I don't know.
- 23:50Speaker 1: It's hard to say because Colorado again, Colorado is playing
- 23:52Speaker 1: a lot better now. But that's why I'm saying, can
- 23:54Speaker 1: you judge it? Can you judge a season? Can you
- 23:57Speaker 1: judge a program? I at what point is it fair
- 24:01Speaker 1: to look at an entire season versus one game. I
- 24:04Speaker 1: don't know, because yeah, Colorado does have like a different
- 24:06Speaker 1: team than maybe when we played them. But it's hard
- 24:08Speaker 1: to tell that Illinois has been pretty consistent all year
- 24:12Speaker 1: and just be Michigan, but Michigan might be. It's just
- 24:15Speaker 1: so hard to tell. How much can you judge based
- 24:17Speaker 1: off of one game? And you know one one one
- 24:19Speaker 1: way of talking about this game is just to say
- 24:21Speaker 1: we're not going to talk about it and move on
- 24:23Speaker 1: right and scrap it and say that was that was
- 24:26Speaker 1: a fluke?
- 24:28Speaker 2: Or is it? And this is where my approach what
- 24:34Speaker 2: this did in my mind? Oh god, I got rain
- 24:37Speaker 2: on my screen.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Oh Jesus, I'm opening up like a thousand windows right now.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Oh but okay, does it? Does it open up like
- 24:52Speaker 1: a big old can of worms now? Because I think
- 24:54Speaker 1: that's what you think is that it's not like it
- 24:56Speaker 1: is one or two small things when you get beat
- 24:59Speaker 1: like this, it's it feels like there's so much more
- 25:03Speaker 1: that just.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Got opened up by losing.
- 25:08Speaker 1: This bad And it could be completely wrong with that,
- 25:12Speaker 1: but it's hard to tell. Because it losing game, you
- 25:16Speaker 1: play the if game and you say, if this happened,
- 25:20Speaker 1: if this did we just got to fix this.
- 25:22Speaker 2: There's not many If this happened in this game, it
- 25:25Speaker 2: was just the guy.
- 25:27Speaker 5: I mean, I think it really it'll be very telling
- 25:30Speaker 5: how we come out against Ohio State. I mean, I
- 25:32Speaker 5: think we all know we're gonna lose.
- 25:35Speaker 4: But if we go out and we get blown out
- 25:37Speaker 4: again fifty something to seven or forty something to seven,
- 25:43Speaker 4: someone's probably getting fired.
- 25:45Speaker 5: I really do think.
- 25:46Speaker 4: I mean, I know Rules says he doesn't want to
- 25:49Speaker 4: fire people because he's a coach.
- 25:51Speaker 5: And he doesn't you know it.
- 25:54Speaker 4: He expects players to learn over time, have you know,
- 25:57Speaker 4: hold coaches the same standard. But he does have a
- 26:00Speaker 4: co offensive coordinators that it was an interesting hire. So
- 26:09Speaker 4: I think'll it'll be very telling to see how we
- 26:11Speaker 4: come out against Ohio State. We come out, we do
- 26:13Speaker 4: the exact same thing. Good chance we.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Don't make a ball game. I think I think you
- 26:21Speaker 3: just for now.
- 26:22Speaker 6: I mean, like I said, we'll see Adams's house State now,
- 26:24Speaker 6: you just scrap it up as a bad game. You
- 26:28Speaker 6: what's helping happens is you just were getting pounded in
- 26:30Speaker 6: the beginning of your team basically just packed it in
- 26:34Speaker 6: and that's kind of what you I is.
- 26:37Speaker 1: That what you want though, that's what you hope, that's
- 26:43Speaker 1: what you hope happened. You see, here's here's my problem.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I was hoping by Monday night at ten thirty eight,
- 26:51Speaker 1: I would be a little bit.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Over that, all of the.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Just the feelings and by this point and shocked feelings
- 27:05Speaker 1: and and question questioning, I guess everything.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I thought it'd be over that, But I'm not.
- 27:11Speaker 1: And I'm like, if there's fans out there, and there are,
- 27:14Speaker 1: there's gonna be a big time overreactions to a lot
- 27:16Speaker 1: of things.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I might be overreacting. I probably am.
- 27:19Speaker 1: There's TV, there's there's there's there's gonna be there's gonna
- 27:23Speaker 1: be a lot of that. The biggest thing is what's this?
- 27:27Speaker 1: Like you said for Ohio State game, like, what are
- 27:29Speaker 1: the players thinking?
- 27:30Speaker 2: What is what?
- 27:32Speaker 7: What?
- 27:32Speaker 3: Oh?
- 27:33Speaker 1: God? After that happens, how can your mind not just
- 27:37Speaker 1: start questioning? That's like, I'm just thinking that any player
- 27:39Speaker 1: on that team, how can you not start questioning everything
- 27:42Speaker 1: you're doing as a program, that everything from stretches to
- 27:46Speaker 1: the film, your your team for film pre you're just questioning, God,
- 27:51Speaker 1: this guy they just got this guy six months ago
- 27:55Speaker 1: from James Madison, and no, they didn't just beat us,
- 27:59Speaker 1: they like demolished us.
- 28:01Speaker 5: It's also funny because you listened to, like the interview
- 28:03Speaker 5: with Signetti before the game, and he's preaching the exact
- 28:07Speaker 5: same stuff rule as you know, execution winning play by
- 28:11Speaker 5: play down by down, like so that culture winning.
- 28:17Speaker 1: The questioning then goes, Okay, we're saying all that and
- 28:20Speaker 1: we've always known Rule and as a really great communicator,
- 28:25Speaker 1: he's phenomenal at it. He's so good at it. The
- 28:28Speaker 1: first time again you start questioning it, is it a facade?
- 28:32Speaker 2: Like? Is it talk? What what are we doing in practice? Actually?
- 28:36Speaker 1: Like you want to believe him and think, Okay, this
- 28:38Speaker 1: is what a hard practice everybody's got in their mind.
- 28:40Speaker 1: This is what a hard, physical, competitive play by play
- 28:44Speaker 1: game by game practice looks like.
- 28:47Speaker 2: But what if that's like.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Not to what actually should be, Like there's a whole
- 28:54Speaker 1: other level that Rule's not there. You don't know that,
- 28:57Speaker 1: no one's gonna know that. But you just have questions
- 28:59Speaker 1: now because you're right they kind of. Signetti says a
- 29:03Speaker 1: lot of really good things, like you said the same
- 29:04Speaker 1: stuff we have heard Rule talk about for a long time,
- 29:07Speaker 1: and you're like, God, this guy he gets it.
- 29:09Speaker 2: He knows what he's talking about. But then this happens
- 29:11Speaker 2: and you go.
- 29:13Speaker 5: What's the difference?
- 29:14Speaker 2: Where is and it?
- 29:17Speaker 4: You know, and then people start throwing around rules record
- 29:20Speaker 4: against top twenties five teams, and you're like, in the
- 29:23Speaker 4: past you're justifying it, but now you're looking at it
- 29:25Speaker 4: a little bit more.
- 29:26Speaker 2: You're like, I, but I try to still not. I don't.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Again, I don't game by game, school by school. I
- 29:34Speaker 1: think every situation is different. I think the question goes
- 29:38Speaker 1: from developing players and talent and again building a program.
- 29:42Speaker 1: You know, rules done it in two three years, so
- 29:44Speaker 1: I mean we're kind of here, here we are, Where
- 29:47Speaker 1: are we moving? The problem is back now.
- 29:50Speaker 4: It's also important to look just driving too, our two
- 29:54Speaker 4: losses their top fifteen teams, you know, like it's.
- 30:00Speaker 5: Not over.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Correct. So there's the overreaction part.
- 30:05Speaker 1: There's where if you can if you can frame it
- 30:07Speaker 1: that way, and you again, there's one way.
- 30:10Speaker 2: One.
- 30:10Speaker 1: It's one thing to frame it and hear that and
- 30:12Speaker 1: think that, like I'm doing right now.
- 30:14Speaker 2: That another thing to actually believe that.
- 30:18Speaker 1: That's where the players have to actually get to for
- 30:22Speaker 1: us to get to seven or eight wins, like our
- 30:24Speaker 1: players have to believe that that's true and not continue
- 30:28Speaker 1: to question things like a lot of fans rightfully, so
- 30:32Speaker 1: are going to be doing now and probably after Saturday,
- 30:36Speaker 1: depending on how that game goes. So that's the big
- 30:39Speaker 1: question mark right now. How how are we going to
- 30:41Speaker 1: respond to it?
- 30:44Speaker 6: Go ahead, Dak, you just got healthy. You see some
- 30:49Speaker 6: fight going in this Ohio State game. And then that
- 30:52Speaker 6: they just don't come out laying egg right away like.
- 30:56Speaker 5: It's gonna be close for at least the chunk of
- 30:59Speaker 5: the game.
- 31:00Speaker 6: Yeah, like like different first quarter.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Then you're then, like I said, then the coaching staff,
- 31:09Speaker 3: I understand, Yeah, jes.
- 31:15Speaker 2: So just big rain drops randomly just start falling.
- 31:18Speaker 1: It just it's yeah, okay, a couple of plays I
- 31:22Speaker 1: don't we won't not place to talk about. But it's
- 31:25Speaker 1: like stuff at the beginning of the game that happens
- 31:28Speaker 1: that you just go what like, are we really going
- 31:31Speaker 1: down this path again? And this is again going back
- 31:35Speaker 1: to the question, like you just question it. Obviously, they
- 31:40Speaker 1: go down and score their first drive. Everybody's like, whoa,
- 31:45Speaker 1: that was pretty impressive. All right, we get the ball
- 31:51Speaker 1: kick off, Oh my gosh, start with catching a ball
- 31:56Speaker 1: at the one yard line on the run and sprinting
- 31:59Speaker 1: out of downs the one yard because we can't stop.
- 32:01Speaker 5: That would have gone out of bounds and probably been
- 32:03Speaker 5: a penalty.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Guys, here and here and this is here comes coach
- 32:08Speaker 1: out of me. If your job as a special teams coach,
- 32:12Speaker 1: and you've done it your whole life, how is there
- 32:16Speaker 1: not like how have you not seen that thought of
- 32:19Speaker 1: that situation that hey, I have one returner back there
- 32:22Speaker 1: the ball gets kicked to outside the numbers. Hey, guess
- 32:26Speaker 1: what returner? I don't care if the ball is where
- 32:29Speaker 1: it's at. If it's outside the numbers, you don't touch it,
- 32:32Speaker 1: like could one is either going to go out of
- 32:33Speaker 1: bounds or two it's going to go through the end zone.
- 32:35Speaker 1: So if there's a hard rule that you don't catch
- 32:40Speaker 1: the ball outside the numbers, how how is that not
- 32:42Speaker 1: a thing? If that's what your job that you get
- 32:45Speaker 1: paid hundreds of thousands of dollars or millions. I don't
- 32:48Speaker 1: know what ed Foley's getting paid too much? Like if
- 32:52Speaker 1: your job, like you're living, eating, breathing, sleeping, watching film
- 32:56Speaker 1: on it for your thirty years of your life, and
- 33:00Speaker 1: how is that situation not come across? I find it
- 33:02Speaker 1: hard to believe that, like, how's that not coached? That great?
- 33:10Speaker 1: That should be preventable. I just don't.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I don't urge you.
- 33:12Speaker 5: He's a freshman.
- 33:14Speaker 2: That's exactly why.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 33:16Speaker 4: That's exactly where there are coaches to coach the freshman
- 33:19Speaker 4: to nominate and don't put him in that position if
- 33:21Speaker 4: you don't think he can handle it.
- 33:22Speaker 5: Why is I GC not back there?
- 33:25Speaker 1: I just I just was whatever that happens, we get
- 33:29Speaker 1: a first down I think, or maybe two, I don't know.
- 33:30Speaker 1: But what it turns into was they can now get
- 33:33Speaker 1: twenty five yards back after we punt, they get the
- 33:36Speaker 1: ball midfield, short field, they go down score or no
- 33:40Speaker 1: that maybe that's when we stop them.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I can't Yeah, maybe that's when we stop them. I
- 33:43Speaker 2: don't remember.
- 33:44Speaker 5: Yes, I think they do score and then we score
- 33:49Speaker 5: and then we stop them.
- 33:50Speaker 3: Yep.
- 33:51Speaker 1: So then somewhere in there then too we have we
- 33:53Speaker 1: put a nice drive together. I think it was when
- 33:54Speaker 1: it's fourteen seven. If we drive down, we're at the
- 33:57Speaker 1: twelve fourth and one time out Nebraska, we get lineup
- 34:01Speaker 1: heavy set time out Nebraska. Okay, we come out, same play.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Everybody in the stadium knows where the ball's going. And
- 34:12Speaker 1: I think this is the question that this coaching staff
- 34:16Speaker 1: and this team, we need to figure this out. If
- 34:21Speaker 1: we think we are the physical, bully, run the ball team,
- 34:26Speaker 1: If that's what we think and that's what our quote
- 34:27Speaker 1: unquote identity is, we.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Better be able to execute it. But we have it.
- 34:34Speaker 1: So I heard someone say this and I thought this
- 34:36Speaker 1: was I was like, oh my god, this is actually
- 34:38Speaker 1: a really good quote. Not sure if they meant to
- 34:39Speaker 1: say this. We want to run the football, but we
- 34:41Speaker 1: can't run the football, so then we don't commit to
- 34:44Speaker 1: running the football because we can't run the football. Like
- 34:49Speaker 1: so we're going back and forth on okay, like that
- 34:51Speaker 1: fourth and one rule. Just want to say, we're gonna
- 34:53Speaker 1: pound it down your throats. We're gonna do it. I
- 34:55Speaker 1: don't care if everybody knows. We have the we're the
- 34:57Speaker 1: offensive line, we're more physical, we have the running back.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Bob blah blah blah blah blah. We get stopped and
- 35:06Speaker 1: it's again predictable. But if we can't do it, then
- 35:09Speaker 1: why do we keep doing it. We're like, we're just
- 35:11Speaker 1: bouncing back and forth on that running thing, and we've
- 35:13Speaker 1: seen it this whole time. So, like I've heard people
- 35:17Speaker 1: after the game, all of the stent of we have
- 35:20Speaker 1: to fully commit to being able to run the football,
- 35:23Speaker 1: and let's go back to the quarterback run game.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Another topic to talk about. Let's go back to the
- 35:30Speaker 2: quarterback run game.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Get our run game going, don't even where about past
- 35:33Speaker 1: And then I've heard the flip side of let's just
- 35:36Speaker 1: spread it out, go four or five wide, let's not
- 35:39Speaker 1: even try to run the ball because we can't, and
- 35:41Speaker 1: let's just let Riola throw for fifty five times a game.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I don't know what the right answer is. Our offense
- 35:47Speaker 1: has been shitty no matter what. So I don't know
- 35:49Speaker 1: which way to go. And that's what that's what they
- 35:51Speaker 1: kind of figure out.
- 35:52Speaker 2: I don't.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Again, we've talked about maybe we have better players. I
- 35:57Speaker 1: don't know that they're that. I think the running backs
- 35:59Speaker 1: are just still so average like that has not changed.
- 36:03Speaker 1: The Indiana running backs I think are a little above average.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I don't know where to go with the offense. I
- 36:09Speaker 1: have no idea.
- 36:11Speaker 2: I don't I don't know.
- 36:14Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 36:14Speaker 2: That's where I'm at a loss.
- 36:15Speaker 1: On the offensive side, too, we can't we Okay, no,
- 36:21Speaker 1: explosive plays right, no threats anywhere running a run explosive
- 36:27Speaker 1: play or a pass explosive play.
- 36:30Speaker 5: Which I felt like early in the year we had those.
- 36:33Speaker 2: And maybe it was the opponent we were playing.
- 36:35Speaker 4: I don't know the opponent, but it doesn't even look
- 36:38Speaker 4: like it doesn't feel like we're looking downfield that much.
- 36:41Speaker 2: So here, let's play this card.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Yeah, we have a second and we don't give me
- 36:45Speaker 1: a second and twos, but hell, let's go first and ten. Okay,
- 36:52Speaker 1: one approach, let's send I wasn't eve gonna say it.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Jalen Lloyd can maybe he's our best at it or
- 36:58Speaker 1: someone like that on a strict down the field, even
- 37:03Speaker 1: if it's an a complete pass. But let's show a
- 37:05Speaker 1: threat of a pass downfield. Okay, that's one way of saying,
- 37:08Speaker 1: let's a threat. Now we have a threat. Maybe it
- 37:12Speaker 1: wasn't complete, but we're now at least showing us up
- 37:13Speaker 1: because we don't We don't try that with anybody, banksnay,
- 37:16Speaker 1: or any of that. We don't try it. So if
- 37:18Speaker 1: not even a we're not even looking there. The flip
- 37:20Speaker 1: side of that, it becomes incomplete. You have the other
- 37:22Speaker 1: side of it, bitching and complaining that why the hell
- 37:25Speaker 1: aren't we running it on first down?
- 37:29Speaker 2: And it's second and ten and we're going second and long.
- 37:31Speaker 2: It's like, I don't know.
- 37:33Speaker 1: It's just funny, like good offensive teams don't get in
- 37:36Speaker 1: that predicament because when it becomes second and ten, they
- 37:39Speaker 1: know how to get out of it.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Well ill even do.
- 37:40Speaker 1: There's another example in the game apples to apples comparison,
- 37:44Speaker 1: first and twenty. We got pushed back on a holding.
- 37:46Speaker 1: They did first. Sorry, they got pushed back first and
- 37:48Speaker 1: twenty on a holding. What was their first play? They
- 37:51Speaker 1: ran a bunch of guys out and they got a
- 37:53Speaker 1: guy wide open, ten yard kind of hookrout they got
- 37:56Speaker 1: in second and nine or ten.
- 37:58Speaker 2: They end up converting it our first down.
- 38:00Speaker 1: We got in the same situation first in twenty we
- 38:03Speaker 1: ran up the middle for a one yard gainer, a
- 38:05Speaker 1: one yard loss.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Now we're in second to nineteen.
- 38:07Speaker 1: It's it's so different, and I guess it's a difference
- 38:11Speaker 1: between a good offense and a bad offense. But I
- 38:14Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know the I don't know what
- 38:16Speaker 1: I even would want. I don't even know what I wanted,
- 38:17Speaker 1: what I would want to do as an offensive coordinator.
- 38:19Speaker 2: I don't know what's sadder feel. I don't know. I'm
- 38:21Speaker 2: at a loss of.
- 38:23Speaker 5: I'm also I'm also worried. Again.
- 38:26Speaker 4: I'm not calling for anyone's head, but the fact that
- 38:28Speaker 4: coming into the year, Centerfield's like, we're not going to
- 38:30Speaker 4: hold back the playbook even though Rayola is a freshman,
- 38:33Speaker 4: We're gonna let him learn the whole playbook as it is.
- 38:37Speaker 5: It's like, this is it. I mean, they're not They're
- 38:39Speaker 5: not saying like, we're not making this.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Rookie you know point that's a great point.
- 38:45Speaker 5: It's like they're saying like, yeah, this is our book.
- 38:49Speaker 2: That's a great point.
- 38:50Speaker 5: Shit.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Uh oh and and.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Every not everybody. A lot of people questioned Marcus sadder
- 39:00Speaker 1: Field for what he was. This might be what we're seeing.
- 39:06Speaker 7: All right.
- 39:07Speaker 4: I say last year we had questions with the passing game,
- 39:10Speaker 4: and we were like, well there's a lot of injuries.
- 39:14Speaker 5: No injuries. This year, better pass.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Protection, better receivers, apparently better quarterback, bad passing game.
- 39:26Speaker 6: Any guys, Yes, when I have to talk about your quarterback,
- 39:30Speaker 6: are you you get a little worried?
- 39:33Speaker 2: H No, Dad, give us your thoughts on him.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Give me. I'm he's obviously true freshman.
- 39:42Speaker 6: I I'm just saying, back to back games, he looks
- 39:44Speaker 6: absolutely awful. Like I don't Rutgers, I would say he
- 39:48Speaker 6: looks almost worse than this game.
- 39:51Speaker 3: He's missing passes too.
- 39:52Speaker 6: I wouldn't be worried yet, but it definitely leads a
- 39:56Speaker 6: little doubt in your mind more than.
- 39:59Speaker 4: It's I see what you're saying. But also, when you're
- 40:03Speaker 4: down twenty eight to seven in the second half, the
- 40:06Speaker 4: opposing defense is playing, They're like you, you're gonna be
- 40:09Speaker 4: passing the ball. We're not gonna let you pass the ball.
- 40:12Speaker 3: And when you think he's banged up, I think he's.
- 40:16Speaker 5: He did get he did get hurt in that first quarter.
- 40:18Speaker 5: I mean he did limp off. But yeah, when.
- 40:21Speaker 4: You're when you're down that much, the defense is knows
- 40:24Speaker 4: you're throwing the ball. And when you're already a true freshman,
- 40:29Speaker 4: and the defense knows what you're gonna do. And we
- 40:32Speaker 4: have questions about our offensive play calling how it's simple
- 40:35Speaker 4: and easy for defenses to read man, that makes a
- 40:38Speaker 4: real tough situation.
- 40:40Speaker 6: Yeah, if you can't if you can't run the ball,
- 40:42Speaker 6: you're true freshman. I mean, defense knows what you're gonna do.
- 40:44Speaker 6: It doesn't help. But all I'm saying is he's a
- 40:49Speaker 6: little a little bit of doubts gonna.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Be threeping in your mind. No, none, No, I don't know.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I just don't know. Uh, he can't run, he can't move.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Which which I think that could be. I think you.
- 41:11Speaker 5: Ran for a first down?
- 41:15Speaker 2: Uh yeah, yeah, he here here's I don't know.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I don't with the offense that are running, I don't know.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Some people are saying, you know, do you give Heinrich
- 41:28Speaker 1: a shot?
- 41:29Speaker 3: No?
- 41:30Speaker 2: I still think.
- 41:31Speaker 1: I still think Dylan's our most talented player on the
- 41:34Speaker 1: offensive side of the ball. So the problem with that,
- 41:40Speaker 1: and this is where I sorttle internally, is I my
- 41:42Speaker 1: preferred style of offense. The quarterback has running capabilities like
- 41:48Speaker 1: Mahomes does not comparing Rail to Mahomes, but all of
- 41:53Speaker 1: the all of these really good quarterbacks guys that they
- 41:57Speaker 1: can run some they have the ability to Curtis Rourke,
- 42:04Speaker 1: he's not a runner, but he can elude people in
- 42:08Speaker 1: the pocket. And Riola showed maybe some of that early on,
- 42:13Speaker 1: but he had negative I don't even I think it's
- 42:16Speaker 1: like negative three hundred some rushing yards in high school
- 42:19Speaker 1: through his four years. So I think your quarterback, regardless
- 42:27Speaker 1: of what system you're running, has to be able to
- 42:30Speaker 1: elude people and take advantage of three yards when you
- 42:33Speaker 1: can get it, or not take a sack to throw
- 42:35Speaker 1: the ball away, or yeah, maybe even be able to
- 42:38Speaker 1: run his own red and pull it and run.
- 42:40Speaker 2: And get six yards.
- 42:44Speaker 1: I don't know, well, okay, I do know Riola can
- 42:48Speaker 1: do that. He's not a statue and then you might
- 42:52Speaker 1: think he is, but he can run. What I think
- 42:55Speaker 1: might have happened don't know this for sure, is that
- 42:58Speaker 1: we got soft. And guess what, maybe all the Roola's
- 43:01Speaker 1: coaches got soft in high school because he was a
- 43:04Speaker 1: talented player and said, we don't want this guy to
- 43:07Speaker 1: get hurt. So he's never getting tackled in practice. We're
- 43:10Speaker 1: never going to put him in a position to get tackled.
- 43:12Speaker 1: And guess what, that's a big time fat excuse for
- 43:18Speaker 1: a program where we're at right now. That upsets me
- 43:22Speaker 1: more than anything. If we're like, we're just not going
- 43:24Speaker 1: to run his own read and give him the option
- 43:26Speaker 1: to pull because we don't want him to have contact
- 43:28Speaker 1: on him. It's like football game. So that's my biggest
- 43:34Speaker 1: issue with the Riola right now. He's a Yes, he's
- 43:38Speaker 1: still has some freshman things, but he's super super raw
- 43:41Speaker 1: talented with his arm.
- 43:43Speaker 2: I still think he has potential to.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Be a pro player in his career, high a top
- 43:48Speaker 1: notch prospect. But he's got to be able to learn
- 43:52Speaker 1: to run, and we have to allow him to do
- 43:55Speaker 1: it somehow, some way. And I think I told you
- 43:59Speaker 1: guys this. I want to have this discussion three four
- 44:01Speaker 1: weeks ago at some point because I think it's a
- 44:05Speaker 1: problem if you're limiting that in your offense. It's not
- 44:09Speaker 1: even a threat that he's running the ball anytime ever
- 44:12Speaker 1: at all. So that's the part that scares me. I
- 44:16Speaker 1: don't think it's time to turn anything. I do think
- 44:20Speaker 1: that we could talk transfer portal a little bit because
- 44:24Speaker 1: I just have like a big, long term future prediction
- 44:27Speaker 1: with what might happen with him. I don't want to
- 44:30Speaker 1: go into it tonight, I don't think, but.
- 44:34Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I still think he's still our guy, and you still
- 44:36Speaker 1: our most talented player. The ball's got to be in
- 44:38Speaker 1: his hands with what we have this year, not.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Worried about it, not necessarily the running. I agree that
- 44:46Speaker 4: would be a nice goal to add. But I'm not
- 44:49Speaker 4: thinking about mentioning for Heinrich now at the end of
- 44:52Speaker 4: that game, when we were down whatever forty two, seven
- 44:57Speaker 4: to forty two, and like like, all right, maybe he
- 45:01Speaker 4: got there and see if there's something here that can
- 45:04Speaker 4: spark the offense.
- 45:05Speaker 1: But I think rule and he said it to want
- 45:09Speaker 1: to Riola to get some reps, and and and again,
- 45:14Speaker 1: just just learn from a game like this, which I
- 45:17Speaker 1: think you will. You from what it sounds like, I
- 45:23Speaker 1: I don't know people are gonna blame there's not players
- 45:26Speaker 1: around him.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Well, don't say that because we said that we got
- 45:31Speaker 2: better players. Well, well, maybe our running backs aren't very good.
- 45:35Speaker 2: We don't have a run.
- 45:35Speaker 1: It's just it's it's a full circle of like after
- 45:38Speaker 1: this game, you just start questioning it, like maybe we
- 45:40Speaker 1: don't have players, maybe we don't have running backs. But
- 45:44Speaker 1: my mind goes back to this tier conversation of teams
- 45:46Speaker 1: that we're playing. We're in that tier. We can't forget
- 45:50Speaker 1: that just because we just got obliterated by aviscerated, annihilated
- 45:55Speaker 1: all those damn words by Indiana.
- 46:01Speaker 2: I think he's gonna keep that in mind. After one game.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Now we might be having the same conversation here in
- 46:08Speaker 1: a week after Ohio State. I still don't know how
- 46:13Speaker 1: much you look into that. It's still a game by game.
- 46:18Speaker 1: The big question is how are these players going to
- 46:21Speaker 1: react to all of this?
- 46:22Speaker 2: Is it's a lot. It's a lot to take in.
- 46:24Speaker 1: It's not one or two things where you go, yeah, coach,
- 46:27Speaker 1: I agree, if we do this, I'm with you, We're
- 46:29Speaker 1: gonna be We're gonna be. Okay, you look at that game,
- 46:32Speaker 1: you go, what in the world just tapped?
- 46:41Speaker 6: Yeah, there's no way if you even if you get
- 46:44Speaker 6: obliterated by how State, you won't feel like you did
- 46:46Speaker 6: after this game because that that one you've been expecting
- 46:49Speaker 6: all year, this one, this one going in the year.
- 46:52Speaker 6: I think we all had his win. We all thought
- 46:54Speaker 6: Indiana was gonna be bottom tier team.
- 46:58Speaker 5: It's gonna be a bottom tier team.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and Craig to their coach, he rebuilt that program quickly.
- 47:05Speaker 3: I don't.
- 47:07Speaker 1: And I don't know if rebuilt the right word. I'm
- 47:13Speaker 1: sorry Indiana fans, but.
- 47:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess they didn't. They didn't he built the
- 47:18Speaker 6: program because he can't. He can't rebuild from nothing.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Well and and and yeah, they built whatever they have
- 47:25Speaker 2: this year. Again.
- 47:26Speaker 1: I don't think it's I don't think Indiana is now
- 47:29Speaker 1: a top twenty five consistent team for the next ten years.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Like no, I think I think he came in and
- 47:35Speaker 1: and had the right approach. He's a damn good coach
- 47:38Speaker 1: and got a lot of winners on his roster and
- 47:42Speaker 1: has seen a lot of football and those of stuff
- 47:44Speaker 1: and dominated. It's not again Northwestern Maryland past two weeks,
- 47:50Speaker 1: we're in the fourth quarter against Indiana. I think there
- 47:53Speaker 1: are also teams in this tier. So it's not like
- 47:57Speaker 1: we're that much worse than all these teams. I don't
- 48:00Speaker 1: think that. But they did a great job this one game,
- 48:03Speaker 1: having two weeks to prepare for Nebraska, and it showed
- 48:08Speaker 1: in the outcome on what they did. And now they
- 48:09Speaker 1: get college game Day this week against Washington.
- 48:17Speaker 3: On that what Indiana fans are nice? Right hu Her?
- 48:23Speaker 2: Yeah, So God's gonna add that at the end.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Here a couple of things just about Indiana, not that
- 48:29Speaker 1: this even matters. People probably don't even care Indiana fans. Okay,
- 48:36Speaker 1: Bloomington and the like the true college town and the
- 48:44Speaker 1: fans and the kids there. You got to remember there
- 48:47Speaker 1: they're basketball is like our football and our basketball is
- 48:50Speaker 1: like their football. So this would be like Nebraska basketball
- 48:53Speaker 1: starting out the year like seventeen and one and being
- 48:56Speaker 1: ranked twelve.
- 49:00Speaker 2: They did not know.
- 49:04Speaker 1: How to handle like success, like how how to feel
- 49:07Speaker 1: about everything that's going on that stadium early on in
- 49:14Speaker 1: the first second quarter when even they're kicking our butt,
- 49:17Speaker 1: like it never got loud, Like their student section does
- 49:19Speaker 1: not know how to cheer at football games. It's funny,
- 49:22Speaker 1: like they don't like when it was third down and
- 49:25Speaker 1: eight and it was fourteen to seven, Like their fans
- 49:27Speaker 1: would barely even yell anything.
- 49:29Speaker 2: They don't know how to chaper winning football. It was
- 49:32Speaker 2: like their first broadcast.
- 49:35Speaker 6: I didn't know if that's just when TV broadcasts went,
- 49:37Speaker 6: but it didn't seem loud.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's weird.
- 49:40Speaker 1: It was fascinating to see, like coming out of the
- 49:42Speaker 1: second half, you know, first drive, I'm like, they should
- 49:45Speaker 1: be fired up, like they're kicking our butt right and
- 49:48Speaker 1: the state will be loud.
- 49:49Speaker 2: And they stayed. I mean a lot of the fans
- 49:50Speaker 2: stayed the whole game.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Like its just it was like they didn't know how
- 49:55Speaker 1: to react to good football.
- 49:58Speaker 3: You can it seemed quiet.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Yeah, So it was just fascinating on that sense and
- 50:03Speaker 1: then yeah, the college kids are yeah they weren't. They
- 50:07Speaker 1: weren't very polite hub at all or classy, and it
- 50:12Speaker 1: made it for kind of I'm not gonna say it
- 50:13Speaker 1: wasn't fun, but like when I go to those games
- 50:16Speaker 1: that you like talking to those people and you just
- 50:18Speaker 1: like to get to know, like again, like what they think,
- 50:22Speaker 1: like how they think the college football, their team. And
- 50:25Speaker 1: we met a couple of people that you could have
- 50:27Speaker 1: for the most part, they were like just get out
- 50:28Speaker 1: of here, leave you don't you're you know, to the
- 50:30Speaker 1: point where it was like Colorado. It was like games
- 50:33Speaker 1: like that where they just were rude and it was fine.
- 50:36Speaker 1: And I will say this too Nebraska fans, Well, I
- 50:40Speaker 1: don't know, because we were all in red, it did
- 50:42Speaker 1: not feel like there were as many of them there
- 50:44Speaker 1: have some other away games. I don't know why that is.
- 50:47Speaker 1: There probably were just as many, but we didn't cheer
- 50:49Speaker 1: for anything in the game. Therefore you could never hear us,
- 50:51Speaker 1: so you never knew how many were in the stadium
- 50:54Speaker 1: because we were so quiet.
- 50:56Speaker 4: Uh.
- 50:57Speaker 2: It just it just it didn't feel like there were
- 50:58Speaker 2: as many.
- 50:59Speaker 1: It was still right though, like Bloomington, the town itself
- 51:02Speaker 1: is pretty awesome. I also will say I don't need
- 51:06Speaker 1: to go back, uh either bring up bad memories of
- 51:10Speaker 1: this game, but here I am two and fifteen on
- 51:14Speaker 1: the road.
- 51:18Speaker 5: So bad. You should have known that you're gonna lose
- 51:22Speaker 5: when you were going. I just don't.
- 51:26Speaker 2: We picked us, Like that's the funny part. Like we
- 51:28Speaker 2: picked us and we got beaten by forty nine. Yeah,
- 51:32Speaker 2: I mean yeah, that that is That is.
- 51:35Speaker 3: What we all didn't think any and it was real.
- 51:38Speaker 2: No, we did. That's yeah, that's why it's just like.
- 51:45Speaker 7: All right then probably Yeah, shout out the actress Ladio
- 51:53Speaker 7: softball team wearing that tonight because I couldn't found any
- 51:57Speaker 7: Husker stuff.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Great title, the night Beaten Hastings. Hi, there you go one,
- 52:05Speaker 1: not the nextra Innings video anything else.
- 52:13Speaker 4: Uh Yeah, I want to lock in my Liberty pick
- 52:15Speaker 4: for my Survivor pool this week.
- 52:17Speaker 5: It's on Wednesday night, Sylvie before pod.
- 52:20Speaker 3: And one again.
- 52:22Speaker 5: Still still lively.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Wow that how do you do?
- 52:27Speaker 3: Four and six?
- 52:29Speaker 6: Not not terriblem was really close to covering though.
- 52:34Speaker 3: That was that was awesome.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Yeah, hey I do I do have a saved video.
- 52:41Speaker 1: Now that's saying you're a bigger Nebraska fan than Oklahoma fan.
- 52:44Speaker 3: I was joking.
- 52:45Speaker 2: No, you were not. There was no joking.
- 52:48Speaker 1: I guess what's getting clipped at the end of this
- 52:50Speaker 1: podcast and putting in.
- 52:53Speaker 3: I was joking when I said it. Oh yeah, No
- 52:56Speaker 3: I wasn't.
- 52:58Speaker 2: You weren't joking. Not anybody laugh at your joke.
- 53:02Speaker 3: No, yeah, you can clip it in whatever. But okay,
- 53:08Speaker 3: let's talk about Calahoma game real quick.
- 53:09Speaker 6: I shut off after twenty one oh three straight defensive
- 53:13Speaker 6: touchdowns South Carolina.
- 53:14Speaker 3: I set it off.
- 53:15Speaker 2: I thought you were going to say, three straight games
- 53:17Speaker 2: where you hadn't watched anything past the third quarter.
- 53:21Speaker 6: That too, No, the Opera game and watched all one
- 53:26Speaker 6: but Texas South Carolina. I have not watched past third
- 53:29Speaker 6: quarter this one, not even past. I shut off nine
- 53:32Speaker 6: minus left first quarter. There's twenty one nothing. I shut
- 53:35Speaker 6: it off.
- 53:36Speaker 5: Maybe Sad could be Oklahoma's OC next year.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Yeah, they're looking for one. That gotta help.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Not if we both don't make a bullgame, can we
- 53:46Speaker 1: just play each other in a fake ball game.
