- 0:55Speaker 3: There we go.
- 0:56Speaker 2: We back, huh for the second time this week.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like Halloween week here.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Almost, but it's it's Nicole was sick and we're redeeming ourselves.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yeah, we're buying your love. I don't even know what
- 1:11Speaker 3: you'd say, redeeming your love.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Okay, it just became a monetary transaction. I guess.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Anyway, I'm just drinking. I'm double fisting, but I'm drinking
- 1:20Speaker 3: tea and I'm drinking juice.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'm drinking Trench beer. You are, And for those who
- 1:25Speaker 2: aren't local, Trench is a local brewery, So it's not
- 1:28Speaker 2: I'm not drinking beer out of like a ditch on
- 1:30Speaker 2: the side of the It's Trench. Yeah. It's good stuff,
- 1:36Speaker 2: delicious and not very nutritious, but it's delicious, So there
- 1:40Speaker 2: we go.
- 1:41Speaker 3: So anyway, people have been like really enjoying I guess
- 1:45Speaker 3: I should say yesterday's episode.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, from what I can tell, it's a rough one.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It was rough.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It's a survivor's story, which is really awesome. It's incredible
- 1:55Speaker 2: that she survived that. So if you guys haven't listened
- 1:58Speaker 2: to it yet, go check it out. Alison Both, it's crazy.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Yeah, like it just I don't know. It makes me
- 2:05Speaker 3: feel like I need to be tougher.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Need to be tougher. Well, what are your thoughts after
- 2:09Speaker 2: that one? The whole wrap up, the whole thought process
- 2:11Speaker 2: on it, Like, where's your head at from that episode?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Well, I still don't feel like it fully processed it.
- 2:17Speaker 3: It's just like incredible that I don't know. I guess
- 2:21Speaker 3: human beings that can be pretty strong sometimes. I think
- 2:24Speaker 3: we sell ourselves short a lot, right, we don't push
- 2:27Speaker 3: ourselves and look, when you do, what could happen?
- 2:29Speaker 2: That's true, that's a very good way of looking at it. Well,
- 2:32Speaker 2: she even said that she felt she had an option
- 2:35Speaker 2: and she chose her way.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah, which is amazing.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So props again to Alice and botha yeah, and props
- 2:43Speaker 2: to you for sticking out with another episode this week
- 2:45Speaker 2: because you have been sick. But yeah, you're going through
- 2:48Speaker 2: like a trooper too, so good.
- 2:49Speaker 3: On you actions not going to that extent.
- 2:52Speaker 2: But thank you. Well, not to that extent. No, you're
- 2:54Speaker 2: not nearly getting your head chopped off and walking to
- 2:57Speaker 2: your survival.
- 2:58Speaker 3: But I know, I mean, well, I'm hoping that I can,
- 3:00Speaker 3: like okay, because silly me, you know, you think, oh man,
- 3:04Speaker 3: you're like kind of sick. Oh wow, Mika Hello. I
- 3:08Speaker 3: don't know if everyone heard. She's like, shut up.
- 3:10Speaker 2: She's in a whiny mood.
- 3:11Speaker 3: So she's always whiny.
- 3:12Speaker 2: You might hear her a couple of times, kind of
- 3:14Speaker 2: getting older.
- 3:15Speaker 3: But anyway, and so instead of picking like a short
- 3:19Speaker 3: and sweet case, I just decided to pick a really
- 3:22Speaker 3: long case. So we're going to see how my voice
- 3:24Speaker 3: does here.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Genius move.
- 3:25Speaker 3: I know I'm really smart.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Well, just before this, you did take a shot of
- 3:29Speaker 2: hot sauce.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Okay, this is so funny because when I was super sick,
- 3:33Speaker 3: I asked you to bring home cough candies, anything great,
- 3:37Speaker 3: and then you forgot them or something. And then even
- 3:40Speaker 3: though you're at the store, but then.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I picked up some grocery stuff, but then I forgot
- 3:44Speaker 2: cough candies.
- 3:45Speaker 3: But its fine.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I got you cold medicine.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Yeah, like you got other things. But then you so
- 3:50Speaker 3: you were like googling how to help a cough and
- 3:53Speaker 3: hot sauce. Yeh like literally just like take a spoonful
- 3:57Speaker 3: of hot sauce. Yeah, and it works, It actually does.
- 4:00Speaker 3: It's really weird sinuses, right, Yeah, yeah, it like really
- 4:06Speaker 3: does well. One night we had a really spicy meal too,
- 4:09Speaker 3: and that made me feel amazing.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah. So if you guys don't have cough candies or anything,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you're sick, you need some home remedies action, just take
- 4:17Speaker 2: some hot sauce.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Okay, we'll putting the whole spiciness aside. Let's talk sweet
- 4:22Speaker 2: a little bit here for a minute, particularly candy Mountain sweet,
- 4:28Speaker 2: because a lot of people got the reference and some
- 4:32Speaker 2: are a little upset that you didn't.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah, my apologies.
- 4:37Speaker 2: How do you not know what candy mountain is? Can
- 4:39Speaker 2: you explain this?
- 4:41Speaker 3: Well? No, the thing is I have seen that. I'm
- 4:44Speaker 3: just not interested in it. Am I allowed to say that?
- 4:48Speaker 2: How dare you? I don't know? You're more like The
- 4:53Speaker 2: best way I can put it is you're like legally blonde.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Okay, that is so insulting, but it's true.
- 5:01Speaker 2: No, I think I used hesitated.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I used to be more like that, but I think
- 5:05Speaker 3: I've definitely like progressed here.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Okay, well, the whole pop culture type scene is not
- 5:10Speaker 2: so much for you. Am I correct with that?
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:14Speaker 2: I guess yeah, for the majority of it. Anyways, you
- 5:18Speaker 2: do have your your instances where you enjoy it, like
- 5:21Speaker 2: some Spider Man movies and John Wick. You fucking love
- 5:23Speaker 2: John Wick. But early internet stuff, even just internet stuff
- 5:28Speaker 2: like YouTube, is not pretty much a thing.
- 5:31Speaker 3: No, no, no, I'm not really like on the YouTube.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Really, Yeah, I am a YouTube you're like.
- 5:38Speaker 3: A YouTube fanatic.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I am a I am a big old slut for
- 5:42Speaker 2: the YouTube, let's put it that way.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Wow.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yeah, but there's nothing wrong with that. We're allowed to
- 5:47Speaker 3: have our own interest.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, for sure?
- 5:49Speaker 3: How soon here?
- 5:50Speaker 2: However, it's been like fifteen years since Candy Mountain, so
- 5:53Speaker 2: you should at.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Least I've seen it. It's just not interesting to me.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I'm probably gonna get more emails.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Here, probably.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Oh, we're allowed to have our own interests.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Okay, you are, but it's Candy Mountain.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Well no, I'm telling the people that, yes.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I am speaking on behalf of them right now. You
- 6:09Speaker 2: are allowed to have your own interest, but it's fucking
- 6:12Speaker 2: Candy Mountain.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Well, maybe someone should email us saying that they annoyed
- 6:15Speaker 3: you what Candy Mountain is either, All.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Right, let us know if you didn't know what Candy
- 6:18Speaker 2: Mountain was.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, Okay, are we like ready to roll here?
- 6:22Speaker 2: I think we're ready to roll, my.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Gosh, because we could probably do a whole podcast on
- 6:26Speaker 3: Candy Mountain. Sure, Jarnie go to Candy mount.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Oh god, sorry impressions.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Okay, Anyway, I think I said yesterday what the case
- 6:36Speaker 3: was on. So we're doing the case of Lacy Peterson.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Lacy Peterson, Lacy Peterson, and I'm assuming you know what
- 6:42Speaker 3: that is, right.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I kind of blocked out, like all the information because
- 6:46Speaker 2: I kind of watched like three quarters of a documentary
- 6:48Speaker 2: on it.
- 6:49Speaker 3: With you when I'm sick.
- 6:50Speaker 2: But I knew you were covering the story, so I
- 6:52Speaker 2: was not paying attention to details. Oh okay, because I
- 6:55Speaker 2: kind of did want to be surprised on this a lot,
- 6:57Speaker 2: so I was on my phone half the time. So no,
- 7:00Speaker 2: I don't really know anything.
- 7:01Speaker 3: About it, prepared to be surprised. So it's a huge
- 7:05Speaker 3: story from two thousand and two, and after doing some
- 7:09Speaker 3: research on it, I feel like the media actually did
- 7:12Speaker 3: this case a real disservice, which it does fair I
- 7:15Speaker 3: guess I should say media and investigators. But right from
- 7:19Speaker 3: the get go it seemed like an assumption was made
- 7:23Speaker 3: and they had their guy case closed. That's just from
- 7:28Speaker 3: my research and after doing this my research, though, I
- 7:32Speaker 3: can't say I'm fully convinced.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, some stuff did just all of a
- 7:35Speaker 2: sudden come back from the documentary.
- 7:37Speaker 3: There was some shit in that documentary.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Holy moly. I remember being absolutely upset over some of
- 7:42Speaker 2: the details ye in the court case. So fuck yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 2: this one's bumpy. This one's bumpy.
- 7:47Speaker 3: So my belief before researching is still very much so
- 7:50Speaker 3: with me. But there does seem to be I guess
- 7:54Speaker 3: you could say a lack of evidence. So if you
- 7:57Speaker 3: don't know who Lacy Peterson is, she and her eight
- 8:00Speaker 3: month old baby, the baby was still in her womb,
- 8:03Speaker 3: were the victims of a highly publicized disappearance slash murder case,
- 8:08Speaker 3: her husband, Scott Peterson being the number one suspect.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Of course, the husband. It's always it's like they're fucking
- 8:17Speaker 2: subject number one.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Always Yeah, well, I mean, or like it's just the
- 8:22Speaker 3: spouse or a loved one. It's so fucked up. Actually,
- 8:25Speaker 3: That's what.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I meant, like the spouse was always the yeah, number
- 8:28Speaker 2: one suspect. But I mean, like, of course it makes sense.
- 8:32Speaker 2: They're the ones who are the closest. They're the ones
- 8:34Speaker 2: who's gonna be the mortal enemy, per se. And I
- 8:38Speaker 2: mean they say that the statistic just rises as uh
- 8:42Speaker 2: as you get married. They're the ones who are most
- 8:44Speaker 2: likely to be the ones to murder you.
- 8:46Speaker 3: I know, I just hate that though. I just think
- 8:48Speaker 3: that's just awful.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Well, if you take anything away from that, it's done
- 8:53Speaker 2: piss me off, and I won't piss you off mutual.
- 8:57Speaker 3: I think that you should be more scared of me.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Hey, I'm one who just made a sticker about true
- 9:03Speaker 2: crime podcasters that you know we know how to hide.
- 9:05Speaker 3: A body, right, Yeah we do.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 3: I was gonna say we have experience. We do not
- 9:10Speaker 3: have experienced.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Way to just give us a way we have knowledge.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I don't even know. I'm just I'm myself and a
- 9:19Speaker 3: whole Listen carefully. We're gonna go through like a ton
- 9:27Speaker 3: of information, like a lot, okay, and I just I'm
- 9:31Speaker 3: gonna be interested to hear like your thoughts, the listener's
- 9:34Speaker 3: thoughts on what you think went down.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Okay, a ton of information. You want our thoughts thinking
- 9:40Speaker 2: cap is on.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Buckle up because yeah, it's gonna be a it's gonna
- 9:43Speaker 3: be a ride here.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Okay, b up.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Okay. So at the time of Lacey's disappearance, she was
- 9:48Speaker 3: twenty seven years old. Like, that's freaking young.
- 9:51Speaker 2: That is young.
- 9:52Speaker 3: That's young, I mean and got little Connor.
- 9:56Speaker 2: He's younger. Yep, didn't even.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Get a life really, so oh he didn't. So Lazy
- 10:02Speaker 3: and Scott would meet in nineteen ninety four, with Lazy
- 10:05Speaker 3: making the first move by giving Scott her phone number.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:09Speaker 3: She would later tell her mom that she had met
- 10:12Speaker 3: the man she was going to marry.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Wow, going for it, you go, girl.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Sometimes you just know.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Making that first move and just going all in.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:21Speaker 3: As the relationship grew more serious, Scott, who entertained the
- 10:25Speaker 3: dream of being a pro golfer, put those hopes aside
- 10:29Speaker 3: to focus on a path in business. The couple dated
- 10:32Speaker 3: for two years before moving in together and got married
- 10:36Speaker 3: on August ninth, nineteen ninety seven.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Once they had both completed their post secondary education, the
- 10:45Speaker 3: Peterson's opened a sports bar where they lived. Where they
- 10:49Speaker 3: were living sorry in San Sam Louis Obispo. I'm Obispo.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I'm just gonna go there, and called it the Shack,
- 10:59Speaker 3: the Shack, the Shack.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Wait, is that is that in reference to like the Caddyshack.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I don't know what that is.
- 11:08Speaker 2: You don't even know what it is, of course you
- 11:09Speaker 2: don't pop culture. It's a movie Caddyshack.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I don't think I've seen that.
- 11:14Speaker 2: No, it's all revolving around golf. And since he was like,
- 11:16Speaker 2: I want to be pro golfer, I'm going to assume
- 11:19Speaker 2: that it's a Caddyshack.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Reference could be I did not. I didn't research that
- 11:25Speaker 3: and it didn't come up in my research. But you
- 11:27Speaker 3: never know. But yeah, he was to watch it, super
- 11:30Speaker 3: into golfing, so we gotta watch it. They eventually put
- 11:33Speaker 3: the business up for sale when they moved to Lacey's hometown, Medesto, California,
- 11:39Speaker 3: as they wanted to start a family. They purchased a
- 11:42Speaker 3: three bedroom, two bath bungalow house and a more upscale
- 11:46Speaker 3: neighborhood of Medesto. In October of two thousand. Lacey took
- 11:50Speaker 3: a part time job as a substitute T shirt and
- 11:53Speaker 3: Scott worked as a fertilizer salesman, earning himself a decent
- 11:58Speaker 3: monthly salary.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Wow, just selling.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Hey, oh my gosh, that's actually good.
- 12:06Speaker 2: That's real good. Thank you, thank you.
- 12:08Speaker 3: So Lacey wanted to be the perfect housewife.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Good on her.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I would say, I am the opposite of that, but
- 12:15Speaker 3: that is okay to each their own.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Nothing. There was dinner waiting for me at home and
- 12:19Speaker 2: everything when I got home from work.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah, but I just I just know that I'm just
- 12:23Speaker 3: never going to be Martha Stewart. I'm just not there.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Well, nobody can be.
- 12:29Speaker 3: So she enjoyed cooking and entertaining. In two thousand and two,
- 12:34Speaker 3: Scott and Lacey got to share the news that they
- 12:36Speaker 3: were expecting their first child, awesome, a son that they
- 12:41Speaker 3: planned to name Connor, with Lacey's due date being February tenth,
- 12:46Speaker 3: two thousand and three. But Lacey would never see her
- 12:51Speaker 3: do date. Instead, her body was found washed ashore in
- 12:57Speaker 3: the San Francisco Bay on April fourteen, two thousand and three,
- 13:01Speaker 3: with Connor's body being found the day prior. That's just mortifying,
- 13:07Speaker 3: its super super rough. So what happened? What happened?
- 13:12Speaker 2: Indeed, well, let's hear it what happened.
- 13:15Speaker 3: It was Christmas two thousand and two when shit would
- 13:18Speaker 3: go south. On December twenty third, Scott and Lacey were
- 13:22Speaker 3: at the salon visiting Amy, Lacey's sister. As she was
- 13:26Speaker 3: cutting Scott's hair, that was like a monthly ritual.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Okay, okay, gotta get the dew.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Yeah, you need haircuts, you know a little more often
- 13:34Speaker 3: I bear. I go like twice a year. It's a problem.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I am definitely increasing my haircutting ness because well, I
- 13:42Speaker 2: used to just always wear hats, always wear a hard
- 13:44Speaker 2: hat at work. Now that I'm like working in a
- 13:47Speaker 2: bit more of an office setting, I got to look
- 13:49Speaker 2: pretty every day.
- 13:50Speaker 3: You got to tame your due.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I gotta tame that. Do style it now.
- 13:54Speaker 3: So, as they were chatting about the upcoming holiday, Amy
- 13:57Speaker 3: mentioned she had ordered a fruit basket for her grandfather
- 14:01Speaker 3: that needed to be picked up the following day. Scott
- 14:05Speaker 3: planned to be in that area playing golf, so he
- 14:08Speaker 3: offered to pick it up for Amy. I would say
- 14:11Speaker 3: that Scott had a good relationship with Lacey's.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Family, Okay, okay. Right on that.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Evening, Lacey would have a phone conversation with her mother again,
- 14:21Speaker 3: probably making any final arrangements as you do at Christmas.
- 14:25Speaker 3: All was normal that evening, and that allegedly carried over
- 14:29Speaker 3: to the following morning, Christmas Eve. Lacey got up earlier
- 14:33Speaker 3: than Scott, had breakfast and Scott, and while Scott was
- 14:37Speaker 3: showering and getting ready for the day, Lacey was doing
- 14:40Speaker 3: a bit of online shopping. You're not supposed to online
- 14:44Speaker 3: shopping so close to Christmas.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You know what if it was last minute gifts, you know.
- 14:50Speaker 3: So she was on the computer looking at a red
- 14:53Speaker 3: scar from the gap and a sunflower umbrella. Lacey had
- 14:57Speaker 3: a busy day ahead of her. Scott said around the
- 15:00Speaker 3: time he was leaving, Lacey was watching Martha Stewart preparing
- 15:05Speaker 3: to mop the floor. She had to go to the
- 15:07Speaker 3: store to pick up bread, make gingerbread, and walk the
- 15:11Speaker 3: family dog, a recipe she had intended to use. Was
- 15:14Speaker 3: sitting on the kitchen counter.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Wait, so she was Martha Stewart, is what you're saying.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Basically, that sounds like a Martha Stewart.
- 15:22Speaker 2: She wasn't watching Martha's Stewart. If she was watching Martha Stewart,
- 15:25Speaker 2: she would have just been looking in a mirror at
- 15:26Speaker 2: that point. She's got it all going like she's eight
- 15:29Speaker 2: months pregnant. She's cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and fucking probably
- 15:35Speaker 2: painting the house while she's at it.
- 15:37Speaker 3: I know that sounds like, that sounds like a lot.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I am not eight months pregnant, and that sounds like
- 15:42Speaker 3: an exhausting day to me.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Generally, after a big meal, I feel like I'm eight
- 15:46Speaker 2: months pregnant and I'm just like I'm not doing anything.
- 15:51Speaker 3: So basically, like like you had mentioned, it was quite
- 15:53Speaker 3: the day. It was quite the day that she planned.
- 15:55Speaker 3: And this is where the first suspicion arises. Friends of Lacey.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Lacey's would later testify that Lacey's pregnancy had forced her
- 16:04Speaker 3: to stop exercising. Every time she would start to do something,
- 16:08Speaker 3: she would have to stop and rest. It was said
- 16:11Speaker 3: because of this, she needed to stop walking the dog
- 16:13Speaker 3: weeks prior at her doctor's urging. Okay, just a little tidbit.
- 16:19Speaker 3: I'm throwing little tidbits in there every.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Once in a while, gotcha, gotcha.
- 16:22Speaker 3: And don't you worry though, We'll be coming back to that.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:25Speaker 3: So after Scott left between nine thirty and ten thirty,
- 16:29Speaker 3: he drove to his nearby warehouse to send a couple
- 16:32Speaker 3: of work emails and retrieve his new boat as he's
- 16:35Speaker 3: decided to no longer go golfing, but to instead go fishing.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Apparently it was a little bit cold to go golfing.
- 16:43Speaker 3: I feel like it was cold to go golfing, though
- 16:44Speaker 3: it was cold to go fishing.
- 16:46Speaker 2: It would be more cold to go fishing out in
- 16:47Speaker 2: the water.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. That didn't make a lot
- 16:50Speaker 3: of sense to me. He traveled to the Berkeley Marina,
- 16:55Speaker 3: where he launched his boat and planned to fish for
- 16:58Speaker 3: sturgeon in somewhat shallow for sturgeon hay for sturgeon.
- 17:02Speaker 2: A pounds, A big ass fish.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I know, I'm people already know.
- 17:08Speaker 2: My fear that kind of shit. If you guys don't
- 17:11Speaker 2: know what a sturgeon is, google it. They fucking cute.
- 17:14Speaker 3: They can be ginormous.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Freshwater fish like in rivers. We have them around us.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Yeah, we can do.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Go fishing for sturgeon like three kilometers away. But anyways,
- 17:23Speaker 2: they like hundreds of pounds. We're talking like three hundred
- 17:27Speaker 2: fucking pound fish.
- 17:28Speaker 3: And I'm assuming, like are they good eating? Can you
- 17:31Speaker 3: eat that?
- 17:33Speaker 2: They're highly illegal to to.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Oh, you don't kill it. It's just sport.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yes.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Oh here, I'm just saying, what's the point unless you're
- 17:40Speaker 3: gonna eat it?
- 17:40Speaker 2: No, I don't know if they're still endangered, but they
- 17:42Speaker 2: were like an endangered they're a protected species.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. That's so interesting to me because I
- 17:49Speaker 3: just feel like, if you're going to try to catch
- 17:50Speaker 3: one of them, it'd be like to eat. But sport fishing,
- 17:54Speaker 3: you know.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah, well if you're in a couple hundred pound fish,
- 17:58Speaker 2: that's worth sport.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it makes sense.
- 18:01Speaker 2: You don't harm the animal, which generally you go guides
- 18:03Speaker 2: and stuff. Yeah, you do pretty good. You don't harm
- 18:05Speaker 2: the animal, and they let them go.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay, So now some interesting things in regards to
- 18:10Speaker 3: the boat I mentioned it was it was a newer
- 18:13Speaker 3: It was a new boat. It was like new to them.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure is purchased us. It was nice, but
- 18:17Speaker 3: it wasn't anything fancy. It was a fishing boat, a
- 18:20Speaker 3: fourteen foot aluminum boat.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Okay, not enclosed.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Anyone could see what the interior might contain, so you
- 18:27Speaker 3: get a little bit of a picture of what this
- 18:29Speaker 3: boat looked like.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Gotcha.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Some reports say Lacey didn't know about the boat because
- 18:35Speaker 3: she hadn't shared the news with her family that they
- 18:37Speaker 3: purchased it, and that would have been something she would
- 18:40Speaker 3: have shared. But then some say she was at the
- 18:43Speaker 3: warehouse days prior and so would have clearly known about
- 18:47Speaker 3: the boat.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 18:50Speaker 3: After he wrapped up fishing for the day and was
- 18:52Speaker 3: en route to drop off the boat and head home,
- 18:55Speaker 3: Scott foamed and left Lacey a voicemail. I have a
- 18:59Speaker 3: clip of this voice smell to play. It's not like
- 19:02Speaker 3: overly important or anything, but I think it's interesting to
- 19:05Speaker 3: hear in regards to what he'll later be accused of.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Sounds good. Let's hear it be beautiful.
- 19:12Speaker 4: I just got to say message at home two fifteen Linten, Berkeley,
- 19:16Speaker 4: I won't be able to get to develop farms to
- 19:18Speaker 4: get that basket for pop on the world's hoping you
- 19:21Speaker 4: would get this message and going out there, I'll see
- 19:24Speaker 4: in it. We love it.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Good message.
- 19:29Speaker 3: So there you have it. I feel like that seems
- 19:32Speaker 3: like a pretty normal voicemail that a husband would leave
- 19:35Speaker 3: their wife.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it does. I mean he's better and up a
- 19:38Speaker 2: little bit. He called her, what beautiful sweetie, in said
- 19:40Speaker 2: I love you.
- 19:42Speaker 3: So which Okay, if you left me voicemail, I'd be like, hey, babe,
- 19:46Speaker 3: and then you would definitely probably say love you too.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I'm most likely thinking, Okay, he just left
- 19:52Speaker 2: his eight month pregnant wife at home to cook and
- 19:56Speaker 2: clean and take care of pretty much everything on Christmas
- 19:59Speaker 2: Eve while I fuck off and go fishing. I'd be
- 20:03Speaker 2: buttering you up too.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's kind of funny that you say that,
- 20:06Speaker 3: because literally I was like, if anything of the day
- 20:10Speaker 3: seems suspicious, it's why Scott gets to go fishing and
- 20:15Speaker 3: Lacey's at home tackling this long like Christmas to do list. Yeah, like,
- 20:19Speaker 3: what the heck here?
- 20:21Speaker 2: No kidding, but we.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Have no idea what kind of arrangement they at home
- 20:24Speaker 3: in regards to how they split work. And then knowing
- 20:27Speaker 3: that Lacey liked, you know, housewife tasks, I suppose you
- 20:32Speaker 3: could call them. Maybe she wanted to do them and
- 20:35Speaker 3: didn't need his help or something.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Right, everyone's relationship dynamic is different, right, absolutely in that
- 20:40Speaker 2: effort effort you make it work like and that's important.
- 20:43Speaker 2: But yeah, he doesn't seem like any sort of douche
- 20:46Speaker 2: canoe to me, unless he's like making his pregnant wife
- 20:49Speaker 2: do the shit and he's just a dick and he's
- 20:51Speaker 2: like fuck you and going fishing, dick move. But if
- 20:53Speaker 2: that's not the case, then yeah, I know it.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Zoycemel makes him sound like so nice, but he is.
- 20:57Speaker 3: He is a douche canal. I'll at least say that much.
- 21:00Speaker 2: All right, all right, we don't like this guy. Fuck you,
- 21:02Speaker 2: Scott Rene.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Okay, So back to the Peterson home, things were unfortunately
- 21:08Speaker 3: not going so well. We do know that Lacey somewhat
- 21:13Speaker 3: stuck to her plan because there was a maltbucket outside
- 21:16Speaker 3: and she had been reported by many eyewitnesses as outwalking
- 21:21Speaker 3: her dog. So the first noteworthy timestamp was the Peterson's
- 21:26Speaker 3: neighbor at ten eighteen, who found Mackenzie, their dog, out
- 21:30Speaker 3: in the yard in the front yard with a leishawn.
- 21:34Speaker 3: She returned the dog to the backyard, not really thinking
- 21:38Speaker 3: much of it. Then there were numerous sightings of Lacey
- 21:42Speaker 3: walking Mackenzie from about ten forty five to like eleven
- 21:46Speaker 3: thirty along a route that does make sense, a route
- 21:50Speaker 3: she would take. Okay, and we're talking like twenty plus
- 21:55Speaker 3: eyewitness reports seeing her. Oh wow, okay, Like it wasn't
- 21:58Speaker 3: just like one or two.
- 21:59Speaker 2: She clearly not following doctor's orders though, Yeah, I guess
- 22:02Speaker 2: not so.
- 22:04Speaker 3: The mailman also delivered mail to the Peterson's home between
- 22:10Speaker 3: this time, and he recalls that the gate was open
- 22:14Speaker 3: and that Mackenzie wasn't there to bark at him, and
- 22:17Speaker 3: Mackenzie was the type of dog that if home, would
- 22:21Speaker 3: have been barking at the mailman.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Gotcha. And if TikTok or Instagram has taught me anything,
- 22:26Speaker 2: it's that mailmen know the dogs in their route too.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Oh oh yeah, And that's like literally in this documentary
- 22:33Speaker 3: that I watched that was said, like you know what
- 22:36Speaker 3: dog's going to bark at you, and you know where
- 22:38Speaker 3: to watch your back.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Maybe, yeah, because I've seen like clips and reels and
- 22:42Speaker 2: stuff of like these malemen and male women and male
- 22:45Speaker 2: persons going around in their roots and it's like they
- 22:48Speaker 2: know the dog's names and like all this, and they're
- 22:51Speaker 2: like they know the new dogs or anything. They just
- 22:54Speaker 2: they know they know.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Well. I've seen ones too where they have like cookies
- 23:00Speaker 3: or whatever, yeah for the dogs, and the dogs just
- 23:02Speaker 3: like sit there waiting they know, and the mailman or
- 23:05Speaker 3: mail woman or person like you said, is coming and
- 23:07Speaker 3: they're just like waiting for that cookie. Yeah, like dogs
- 23:10Speaker 3: are just like peer Oh my.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Gosh, the angels, Yeah they are.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Okay, where was it here? So at this time, so
- 23:19Speaker 3: the mailman came. There was no barking for mackenzie. But
- 23:23Speaker 3: this is also the time that Lacy was being witnesses
- 23:26Speaker 3: out on our walk, so that makes sense. But none
- 23:29Speaker 3: of the sightings of her walking the dog would be
- 23:33Speaker 3: later heard in court. Oh yeah, fuck yeah. Next noteworthy
- 23:43Speaker 3: times tamp was the witness of a burglary across the
- 23:46Speaker 3: street from the Peterson's. That family where the burglar was
- 23:52Speaker 3: taking place left for vacation around ten thirty that morning
- 23:58Speaker 3: at about ten forty, and neighbor drove by, witnessing, as
- 24:02Speaker 3: she described it, three short, dark, darker skin suspicious people
- 24:06Speaker 3: at a van, stopping what they were doing as she
- 24:09Speaker 3: drove by to watch her. That's kind of weird.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Well, I just saw the case. They're the ones who
- 24:15Speaker 2: did this. Find them? You find her period.
- 24:19Speaker 3: That's interesting that you say that.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Detective Ben has solved the case.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Case closed. Okay, so this was taking place right around
- 24:29Speaker 3: when Lacey would have been returning home from her walk
- 24:33Speaker 3: with McKenzie.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Yep.
- 24:35Speaker 3: In fact, that's what she was doing that morning. We'll
- 24:39Speaker 3: talk more about this burglary near the end.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Okay if in fact, okay, you threw a wrench in
- 24:46Speaker 2: my plan.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Well, I mean, some people say that there's no way
- 24:50Speaker 3: she was out walking, Okay, okay, because doctor's orders.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Yeah, she wasn't supposed to. Okay, Okay, you got my attention.
- 24:59Speaker 3: So when Sco finally returned home, he said he returned
- 25:03Speaker 3: home to an empty house. Their dog was in the
- 25:06Speaker 3: backyard still with the leasha on, and Lacey's vehicle was
- 25:10Speaker 3: in the driveway. But he didn't think much of any
- 25:13Speaker 3: of this and just thought maybe Lacy had been picked
- 25:15Speaker 3: up by her mom and was over at their house.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, makes sense.
- 25:21Speaker 3: He showered, he washed his clothes, which he got a
- 25:25Speaker 3: lot of flak for as well, but he said that
- 25:29Speaker 3: he basically just got them wet fishing and like he
- 25:32Speaker 3: smelled from fishing, right, so he put his clothes in
- 25:35Speaker 3: the wash checks out. It wasn't until about five point
- 25:38Speaker 3: fifteen that Scott phoned over to his in laws to
- 25:42Speaker 3: see if Lacey was there. He did this after he
- 25:46Speaker 3: came across the message he left for Lacey on the machine,
- 25:49Speaker 3: and also one from Ron as well. Who Ron is
- 25:53Speaker 3: Lacey's stepfather, and he was phoning basically to ask them
- 25:58Speaker 3: to bring something to the house like later that day.
- 26:02Speaker 3: But Scott thought that's where Lacey was, right, Yeah, so
- 26:06Speaker 3: your phone there, she obviously wasn't there. And about a
- 26:09Speaker 3: half an hour later, Ron would call the police to
- 26:13Speaker 3: report Lacey as missing.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Wow, that's that's pretty quick they were on that.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Yeah, well they went I don't even have this in there,
- 26:21Speaker 3: but like they went around searching for her, right, yeah,
- 26:25Speaker 3: you know, a Scott had taken Mackenzie for a walk,
- 26:28Speaker 3: like looking for stuff. But and they were making phone
- 26:31Speaker 3: calls and stuff. But I think I think it would
- 26:33Speaker 3: be pretty clear if someone was miss like you find
- 26:37Speaker 3: out pretty quickly.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's fair. I mean if someone is if if
- 26:43Speaker 2: I think that if you're missing, for example, okay, the
- 26:45Speaker 2: things I would check for to see if you have
- 26:47Speaker 2: left on your own will or whatever, purse, keys, phone, car,
- 26:54Speaker 2: that sort of thing.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and you probably like phone a couple people you know,
- 27:01Speaker 3: I hang out with on a regular basis or something. Definitely, Yeah,
- 27:05Speaker 3: and that's about it. I think they're also like even
- 27:07Speaker 3: phoning hospitals and stuff.
- 27:09Speaker 2: But shit, they were fucking on that they're on it.
- 27:12Speaker 3: So and from there the story would attract nationwide media attention.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Oh really, it's not always clear why one story will
- 27:22Speaker 3: get more attention than another, but from what I read,
- 27:26Speaker 3: there isn't generally a lot to report on over the holidays,
- 27:29Speaker 3: Like news wise, I think it's a little bit quieter. Yeah,
- 27:33Speaker 3: and it was around the time that news outlets were
- 27:35Speaker 3: starting doing their twenty four hour news coverage. The Petersons
- 27:40Speaker 3: also came across as an all around American family, good looking.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Lacey was the girl next door type.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Relatability seems to be a big thing. If you look
- 27:51Speaker 2: at like social media things that go viral, it's usually
- 27:54Speaker 2: something really cool, right yeah, or it's really educational, or
- 27:59Speaker 2: it's really relatable. And in the case of true crime,
- 28:02Speaker 2: it's not going to be something that's really cool or
- 28:05Speaker 2: really entertain educational, it's going to be really relatable. So
- 28:09Speaker 2: probably like, oh, can you imagine that happened on Christmas
- 28:12Speaker 2: to our family?
- 28:13Speaker 3: That's very true.
- 28:14Speaker 2: That's probably what really made people like attached to it.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Yep. So from there on, the street was riddled with reporters,
- 28:24Speaker 3: which is something else to also note.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Noted.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Noted note that noted Meanwhile, Medessa police detectives John Breuler
- 28:34Speaker 3: and Alan but Cinci reported responded to the call. But Cincinki, Oh.
- 28:45Speaker 2: My gosh, welcome to Wicked podcast.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Fucking I don't even know whatever? Freaking Alan and.
- 28:51Speaker 2: John, is that what you're about to say?
- 28:55Speaker 3: I don't even know I'm.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Moving from that?
- 28:57Speaker 3: Okay, holy shit?
- 28:59Speaker 2: Okay.
- 28:59Speaker 3: So when they arrived at the Peterson home, they found
- 29:04Speaker 3: Lacey's keys, wallet, and sunglasses still to be in her
- 29:09Speaker 3: purse in the closet. Shit, which is kind of like
- 29:12Speaker 3: fuck yeah, right, because even if she was going to
- 29:15Speaker 3: her parents or her mom and stepfathers, like, she would
- 29:19Speaker 3: have that with her.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah. And if she was going for like a
- 29:22Speaker 2: say she's going to stretch her legs for a walk
- 29:24Speaker 2: or something, even against doctor's orders, She's probably going to
- 29:27Speaker 2: go for the to the store or something to grab
- 29:29Speaker 2: something for dinner. She's not going to just go for
- 29:31Speaker 2: a stroll. There's going to be a purpose behind it, right,
- 29:33Speaker 2: So she would take her wallet, she would take her
- 29:35Speaker 2: keys or something. Yeah, she'd be on a mission that day, not.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Just a well the keys, yeah, you think the keys
- 29:41Speaker 3: even if you're going for a walk to lock your
- 29:43Speaker 3: door or whatever.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Right, yeap. So there were.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Many things that seemed to question Scott's innocence, according to investigators,
- 29:52Speaker 3: but one of them was his reaction to his wife missing.
- 29:58Speaker 3: You think most people in that situation would be freaking
- 30:01Speaker 3: the fuck out just a bit.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, probably.
- 30:06Speaker 3: But throughout the whole process, really Scott remained quite calm,
- 30:12Speaker 3: which came across as suspicious to investigators. It was described
- 30:17Speaker 3: so this is one of the detectives. It was described
- 30:21Speaker 3: as a strange combination of polite and arrogant, disaffectedly distant,
- 30:28Speaker 3: and inpatiently irritable. He just didn't seem like a man
- 30:32Speaker 3: who was crushed or even greatly disturbed by his wife's
- 30:37Speaker 3: disappearance and possible death. He said, I suspected Scott when
- 30:42Speaker 3: I first met him. Didn't mean he did it, But
- 30:45Speaker 3: I was a little bit thrown off by his calm,
- 30:47Speaker 3: cool demeanor and his lack of questioning. He wasn't will
- 30:52Speaker 3: you be calling me back? Can I have one of
- 30:54Speaker 3: your cards? What are you guys doing now?
- 30:58Speaker 2: I don't know if I agree with that. I mean sure,
- 31:03Speaker 2: he wasn't all upset, he wasn't questioning, he wasn't frantic,
- 31:07Speaker 2: But people deal with shit differently. Oh yeah, the way
- 31:11Speaker 2: you said it, he was distant. There was another word
- 31:15Speaker 2: you use, distant.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Uh what did I say?
- 31:19Speaker 2: It was one of the two, the two latter words
- 31:22Speaker 2: that you said. But it almost sounded like he was
- 31:24Speaker 2: in shock to me.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Cool demeanor, calm, lack of questioning.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Was a little bit.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know what I even said here, but.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Either way, it's it sounds like he's in shock to me.
- 31:38Speaker 2: He sounds like he's just like he doesn't know what
- 31:40Speaker 2: to do, he can't process this. Irritable that was the
- 31:43Speaker 2: other one. Yeah, yeah, so irritable and distant. That sounds
- 31:46Speaker 2: like someone who's just like doesn't know what to do
- 31:49Speaker 2: and just like panic almost and just like shut down.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I know. I feel like you just sometimes can't judge
- 31:56Speaker 3: people for situations they're in and like because sometimes I
- 32:01Speaker 3: don't know, like just I like, this is kind of
- 32:03Speaker 3: a morbid situation here. But like I was at like
- 32:06Speaker 3: a loved one's funeral one time, and it's like I
- 32:09Speaker 3: barely literally remember anything at that and people would probably
- 32:13Speaker 3: think that I like looked happy or whatever, but you're
- 32:16Speaker 3: literally like just putting on a show. Yeah, like you're
- 32:19Speaker 3: freaking the fuck out inside, but like you're just like
- 32:23Speaker 3: making it so that everyone thinks it's okay.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Yeah, fair enough.
- 32:27Speaker 3: I don't know that does happen?
- 32:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I know for me, it's like when I don't
- 32:31Speaker 2: know what to do or what how to react or anything,
- 32:34Speaker 2: I kind of shut down. I'm probably gonna be distant
- 32:36Speaker 2: and irritable.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Yeah huh, and just trying to like process and vire
- 32:41Speaker 3: on your head. I don't know, but I mean it
- 32:44Speaker 3: sucks like he was he was judged.
- 32:45Speaker 2: He was judged for that.
- 32:47Speaker 3: So now once the police found out Scott was fishing
- 32:51Speaker 3: at the Berkeley Marina earlier that day.
- 32:53Speaker 2: That's sus as fuck.
- 32:55Speaker 3: That area was on high alert for them, and at
- 32:59Speaker 3: one point it was search ye. Also, request was put
- 33:03Speaker 3: out through through the media for any eyewitnesses of Scott
- 33:09Speaker 3: in the area to come forward, which essentially gave away
- 33:15Speaker 3: his motherfucker Alhibi to the public.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Yeah, see that, this is the one part I do remember.
- 33:21Speaker 2: So sorry if I gave something away there by saying that,
- 33:23Speaker 2: sus but but yeah.
- 33:26Speaker 3: So yeah, keep going, Okay, where was I here? So
- 33:32Speaker 3: they had basically believed that Scott killed Lacy and was
- 33:36Speaker 3: at their marina dumping her body. They knew Scott was
- 33:41Speaker 3: at the office, as the emails he sent were documented
- 33:44Speaker 3: and timestamped. He had a receipt from the marina, and
- 33:48Speaker 3: there were eyewitnesses. But Scott's behavior there wasn't suspicious. I mean,
- 33:53Speaker 3: it was like the middle of the day. He was
- 33:57Speaker 3: on a small fishing boat, and I think it'd be
- 33:59Speaker 3: very safe to say if he had anything suspicious on
- 34:02Speaker 3: the boat with him, it would probably have been noticed.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Well, and you said it was what a twelve or
- 34:07Speaker 2: fourteen foot of aluminum boat?
- 34:08Speaker 3: Yeah, fourteen feet, but you see.
- 34:10Speaker 2: In those things like like I've got a twelve and
- 34:12Speaker 2: a half foot of aluminum sitting over there. We can
- 34:14Speaker 2: turn it over, we can sit inside it, and you'll
- 34:15Speaker 2: be able to like everything.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, So I mean, okay, My only thought there is, like, say,
- 34:23Speaker 3: if because I just want to play all sides here,
- 34:26Speaker 3: like we don't know, well, fuck, we do know according
- 34:30Speaker 3: to some people, what happened. But anyway, if like you
- 34:35Speaker 3: had done something bad in the middle of the night,
- 34:38Speaker 3: my only thought is maybe he was going back to
- 34:40Speaker 3: the scene to just like make sure that he had
- 34:43Speaker 3: hid into everything. Oh yeah, right, because I don't I
- 34:48Speaker 3: don't think that during the day and stuff, you will go,
- 34:50Speaker 3: like dump a body, but maybe you were coming back
- 34:52Speaker 3: in the day just to like retrace your steps.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Yeah, because they do often say that the criminal returns
- 34:58Speaker 2: to the scene of the crime. No, you got a.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Point, So I mean that would be my only thought. Wow, okay, okay, okay.
- 35:06Speaker 3: So but with police giving away Scott's alibi, say he
- 35:10Speaker 3: didn't do this, whoever did now knew what to do
- 35:14Speaker 3: with Lacey's body if they wanted it to look like
- 35:17Speaker 3: Scott did it. Who Scott was at that time the
- 35:19Speaker 3: number one.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Suspect passed the buck.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh, which is just freaking terrifying. Holy shit. Some
- 35:26Speaker 3: reports also say Lacey and the baby weren't killed on
- 35:30Speaker 3: the twenty fourth, but later, so imagine she was being
- 35:35Speaker 3: held somewhere, but the police were like too fixated on
- 35:39Speaker 3: Scott to open their eyes to other possibilities, and like
- 35:43Speaker 3: that just haunts me.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Yeah, no kidding. See, you said that that he's kind
- 35:49Speaker 2: of a douche canoe and we don't like Scott. So far,
- 35:51Speaker 2: I'm not presented with anything that makes me think he
- 35:54Speaker 2: is a douche canoe and that I don't like him,
- 35:56Speaker 2: except taking your word for it.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Just wait, just wait there, it's actually coming up here.
- 36:01Speaker 3: It's come right up here.
- 36:02Speaker 2: All right, let's hear it. Let's hear what douche Scott
- 36:06Speaker 2: McGee asshole guy did did?
- 36:10Speaker 3: Okay? So something else I should mention is in the beginning,
- 36:14Speaker 3: Lacey's family really supported Scott like they had his back.
- 36:20Speaker 3: They defended him and portrayed him and Lacey as the
- 36:23Speaker 3: ideal couple. It wasn't until Amber Fry showed up that
- 36:30Speaker 3: they turned on Scott.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Who the fuck's Amber Fry?
- 36:34Speaker 3: Amber Fry was Scott's girlfriend.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Oh shit, Scott, you got caught like that? Ah, what
- 36:44Speaker 2: a dick.
- 36:44Speaker 3: That's bad.
- 36:46Speaker 2: What a dick.
- 36:47Speaker 3: So they met on November twentieth, with Scott so like
- 36:51Speaker 3: they hadn't been together long, Like that's that's only like
- 36:54Speaker 3: a few weeks, right, with Scott telling Amber that he was,
- 36:59Speaker 3: you know, a single dude. Apparently this hadn't been Scott's
- 37:03Speaker 3: first affair either. So that doesn't make him it makes
- 37:08Speaker 3: him like an absolute piece of shit. Oh sure, but
- 37:11Speaker 3: it does not necessarily just like make him a killer.
- 37:14Speaker 2: No, it doesn't.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Amber had approached the police about Scott once she realized
- 37:19Speaker 3: who he was. All along, Scott had denied to detectives
- 37:23Speaker 3: that he was having an affair. She told detectives, Oh,
- 37:29Speaker 3: I wrote that fucking sentence wrong.
- 37:31Speaker 2: It's all good, it's all good. Don't worry about it.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Oh, she told detectives. Scott told her on December ninth
- 37:38Speaker 3: that he was married. Oh, okay, this is bad, this
- 37:42Speaker 3: is bad. But said he lost his wife and this
- 37:46Speaker 3: would be the first holiday without her. What like, huh,
- 37:54Speaker 3: considering what ends up happening, that's quite a thing to say.
- 37:58Speaker 2: So he told this chick, my wife just died and
- 38:01Speaker 2: this is my first Christmas without her. And then his
- 38:04Speaker 2: wife happens to fucking go missing.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Yeah, so he said that like a week and a
- 38:11Speaker 3: bit before that happened.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Wow, this dude should write fortune cookies.
- 38:19Speaker 3: What oh my god. And so apparently what had happened, though,
- 38:24Speaker 3: is one of Amber's friends found out Scott was married,
- 38:28Speaker 3: and so Scott had to come up fairly quickly with
- 38:32Speaker 3: some sort of lie. Okay, and that's what the fuck
- 38:36Speaker 3: he came up with.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Ah.
- 38:38Speaker 3: So what happened next is quite interesting. Amber started working
- 38:42Speaker 3: with the police and secretly recording her phone conversations with Scott.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Shit.
- 38:49Speaker 3: The hope was that they could get him to confess. Okay, okay,
- 38:55Speaker 3: Scott had told Amber that he'd be traveling for the holidays.
- 39:00Speaker 3: So one particular conversation, he pretended to be in Paris
- 39:05Speaker 3: while talking to Amber, but in reality, he was actually
- 39:09Speaker 3: attending his wife's New Year's Eve candlelight vigual in modesto.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Lay. Fuck. Yeah, So he's on the fucking phone with
- 39:20Speaker 2: his mistress while he's at his wife's fucking fucking funeral.
- 39:25Speaker 3: So it's just like it's shit like that that just
- 39:28Speaker 3: like fucks with people here, right.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Scott is a fucking douchebag. I don't know if he's
- 39:34Speaker 2: a murderer, but he's a fucking.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Like that's disgusting. And something I didn't even put in
- 39:39Speaker 3: here is because like media was just all over this.
- 39:44Speaker 3: They were like all over this, and so they also
- 39:47Speaker 3: would take photos and stuff of Scott and of course
- 39:51Speaker 3: like pick just the worst possible one. So like he
- 39:54Speaker 3: is at this candlelight vigual thing and there's a photo
- 39:59Speaker 3: of him like smiling or laughing. Yeah, and of course
- 40:03Speaker 3: that goes on like the cover of all these like
- 40:05Speaker 3: tabloid magazines, right of course, But in reality, someone said
- 40:09Speaker 3: that he was just like sharing a sweet moment with
- 40:12Speaker 3: his niece who was there. Yeah, Like, I mean, what
- 40:15Speaker 3: is he supposed to do? Stand to the side the
- 40:16Speaker 3: whole time and just like brown, Like I don't know.
- 40:20Speaker 3: I mean, I guess technically, but he's also there, and like,
- 40:24Speaker 3: you know, these people are trying to help find his wife.
- 40:27Speaker 2: And but I mean, that's what that's what media does.
- 40:29Speaker 2: They look for that split moment where they can make
- 40:32Speaker 2: a buck off something. It's oh, he smiled when he
- 40:35Speaker 2: should be sad, This will go great. You know, I
- 40:38Speaker 2: actually hate that. Yeah, scummy as fuck.
- 40:42Speaker 3: So there had been quite an extensive search for Lacey.
- 40:47Speaker 3: A search was done along Dry Creek, an area Lacey
- 40:50Speaker 3: would have been walking the dog. The search included helicopters
- 40:55Speaker 3: K nine units, water rescue units, along with numerous officers.
- 41:00Speaker 3: Lacey's loved ones and volunteers also took part in the search.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Extensive.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Yeah, like they did.
- 41:07Speaker 2: A lot.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Flyers were posted, press conferences were held. An initial reward
- 41:12Speaker 3: of twenty five thousand was offered. That was later increased
- 41:16Speaker 3: to two hundred and fifty thousand and five hundred thousand
- 41:21Speaker 3: for information leading to Lacey's safe return.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Wow.
- 41:25Speaker 3: It was reported that in the hundreds were searching for Lacey,
- 41:30Speaker 3: and considering the story had such significant media coverage, like,
- 41:34Speaker 3: I'm sure it was even more than that almost likely.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Wow, that's uh, that's awesome for them for actually getting
- 41:40Speaker 2: that kind of community involvement.
- 41:43Speaker 3: It wasn't until April thirteenth, and I've mentioned the state
- 41:49Speaker 3: that a couple outwalking their dog came across a decomposing
- 41:55Speaker 3: but apparently well preserved body of a male fetus in
- 41:59Speaker 3: a marsh area of the San Francisco shore in Richmond's
- 42:04Speaker 3: Point Isabelle Regional Shoreline Park, which is a mouthful which
- 42:08Speaker 3: is north of Berkeley. The babies and bilical cord was
- 42:13Speaker 3: still attached, appearing to have been torn. And two very
- 42:19Speaker 3: interesting things in regards to this baby, who was later
- 42:22Speaker 3: identified to be Connor. Connor had twine knotted around his
- 42:27Speaker 3: neck and his ear was pinned down with.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Tape with tape.
- 42:34Speaker 3: So it was like folded and pinned with tape. What fuck,
- 42:37Speaker 3: which could indicate that he was potentially handled outside of
- 42:43Speaker 3: Lacy's body.
- 42:44Speaker 2: I think that most likely would indication.
- 42:46Speaker 3: I know it was always said potentially, but I mean
- 42:50Speaker 3: like the fact that he had I don't know, we're
- 42:53Speaker 3: going to go into this a bit more here, but
- 42:55Speaker 3: like this is it doesn't make any sense.
- 42:57Speaker 2: I can understand it's not with certainty, but I could
- 42:59Speaker 2: say it's with utmost well, it's it's almost certain that
- 43:04Speaker 2: it's an indication of that.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Well, and what I was going to say, I was
- 43:08Speaker 3: going to say this a little bit later, but I'll
- 43:09Speaker 3: say it now. It doesn't make sense though that Connor's
- 43:14Speaker 3: body was like in better shape then, right, because the
- 43:18Speaker 3: idea that maybe it was in better shape because it
- 43:20Speaker 3: was actually in Lacey's body and then like came out later. Okay, yeah, right,
- 43:26Speaker 3: which makes sense that it would be in better shape,
- 43:28Speaker 3: But then how would it have gotten like tape on
- 43:32Speaker 3: its ear in the water.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's not going to get tape. Like
- 43:37Speaker 2: tape doesn't just adhere and then pin something down on
- 43:41Speaker 2: its own, I know, especially without water. We've all had
- 43:44Speaker 2: like a little ball of tape or something get stuck
- 43:45Speaker 2: in her hand. It gets stuck on you, but it
- 43:47Speaker 2: doesn't pin shit down. It's not it's not going to
- 43:51Speaker 2: be like, oh, I went to bet our sleep last
- 43:53Speaker 2: night in my bed after wrapping Christmas presents, and I
- 43:55Speaker 2: woke up my eyes were tape shut I don't know
- 43:58Speaker 2: how that happened.
- 43:59Speaker 3: It's like what, Yeah, Like it's super weird evidence, Like
- 44:03Speaker 3: that's fucking weird that.
- 44:05Speaker 2: That's the twine. I could see like getting tanked.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I could see that, but not the tape.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Not the tape.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Not the tape. The tape don't make sense.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Lacey's body would be found the following day, about one
- 44:17Speaker 3: mile away from where Connor was found. The corpse was
- 44:21Speaker 3: wearing beige pants a maternity bra, but was in really
- 44:25Speaker 3: rough shape. Lacey's body was decapitated and her limbs were missing,
- 44:31Speaker 3: so it's basically just her torso that was found.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Wow.
- 44:35Speaker 3: Yeah. Following the discovery of the bodies, Scott would be
- 44:42Speaker 3: arrested on April eighteenth, two thousand and three. He was
- 44:48Speaker 3: in he was at a golf course in San Diego.
- 44:52Speaker 2: And how far off was were the bodies found from
- 44:56Speaker 2: where he went fishing.
- 44:59Speaker 3: I don't. I kind of touched a little bit on
- 45:01Speaker 3: that later in like the court, but it was in
- 45:04Speaker 3: like kind of the general area, gotcha, I'll mention something
- 45:08Speaker 3: about it here in a bit. So he was meeting
- 45:12Speaker 3: his father and brother to play golf when he got arrested.
- 45:18Speaker 3: He had his hair dyed blonde, and his car was
- 45:22Speaker 3: overstuffed with many items the police would find suspicious, including
- 45:29Speaker 3: thousands of dollars in cash, survival and camping gear for
- 45:34Speaker 3: cell phones, his brother's driver's license, and Viagra tablets.
- 45:40Speaker 2: That I didn't expect that one, but all right, nothing
- 45:44Speaker 2: wrong with it. Just caught me off guard.
- 45:46Speaker 3: I know, like that. That's yeah. It was explained to
- 45:50Speaker 3: the police that Scott used his brother's license the day
- 45:53Speaker 3: prior to get a San Diego resident discount at the
- 45:56Speaker 3: golf course, and that he'd be living He's been living
- 46:00Speaker 3: out of his car trying to avoid the media.
- 46:02Speaker 2: That makes sense. He should have tried to go for
- 46:04Speaker 2: a senior's discount with that via he gez. Sorry, I
- 46:09Speaker 2: had to say it.
- 46:11Speaker 3: I also think though, like avoiding the media could also
- 46:14Speaker 3: explain his diet hair as well, right, like, yeah, he
- 46:17Speaker 3: was just trying not to be recognized and like he
- 46:20Speaker 3: was having a tough time with the media the media
- 46:22Speaker 3: really like cool.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Oh, I could definitely see that. But there are definitely
- 46:28Speaker 2: I mean, you can explain all the items, say per se,
- 46:31Speaker 2: but well, I'm just saying if someone is able to
- 46:36Speaker 2: explain them all, I'm just playing devil's advocate. Okay, if
- 46:39Speaker 2: you can say, well, I have this for this, I
- 46:41Speaker 2: have this for this, I have this for this. But
- 46:43Speaker 2: the fact that they're all there together is quite coincidental.
- 46:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it doesn't really paint the best picture for Scott.
- 46:54Speaker 2: No, so it's pretty damning.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of shit that this
- 47:00Speaker 3: guy did that. Just like if he didn't do this,
- 47:04Speaker 3: it's kind of like odd. Oh yeah, so this the
- 47:08Speaker 3: police suspected that Scott planned to flee to Mexico, with
- 47:12Speaker 3: the border being close to San Diego. That's what they thought,
- 47:16Speaker 3: which I mean, look, what the fuck was in his car?
- 47:19Speaker 2: Was he actually on the golf course when he's arrested.
- 47:21Speaker 3: No, he was like he was driving there, like there,
- 47:25Speaker 3: guy's gonna.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Say, if he was going to run to Mexico, he
- 47:28Speaker 2: would have not had played one last round of golf.
- 47:31Speaker 2: He would have been caught on the road. But if
- 47:32Speaker 2: he was caught on the road, then okay.
- 47:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but like I don't think that he was actively
- 47:37Speaker 3: fleeing at that point either though, fair like he was
- 47:40Speaker 3: on the route way to go play golf, gotcha. So
- 47:44Speaker 3: On April twenty first, two thousand and three, Scott was
- 47:48Speaker 3: charged with the first degree murder of Lacy and second
- 47:52Speaker 3: degree murder of Connor. He pleaded not guilty and was
- 47:56Speaker 3: held without bail. Scott was represented by Mark Girgis, who
- 48:01Speaker 3: had done other high profile criminal defense work. The trial
- 48:06Speaker 3: took place in Redwood City, just over two hours from Modesto.
- 48:11Speaker 3: Some believed the trial should have taken place much further
- 48:14Speaker 3: away to give Scott a chance to have an unbiased trial.
- 48:19Speaker 3: The trial began on June one, two thousand and four.
- 48:23Speaker 3: The lead prosecutor was Rick Diastell. There's many things to
- 48:29Speaker 3: note from the trial. First off, Scott's defense lawyers based
- 48:34Speaker 3: their case on the lack of direct evidence and played
- 48:38Speaker 3: down the significance of circumstantial evidence. Oh interesting only because
- 48:45Speaker 3: the only forensic evidence identified was one hair that matched
- 48:51Speaker 3: through DNA to be Lacy's and was found stuck to
- 48:55Speaker 3: pliers on Scott's boat. That was really the only like
- 49:00Speaker 3: direct evidence. Everything else was pretty much circumstantial.
- 49:04Speaker 2: I mean that could be circumstantial too. I mean they
- 49:07Speaker 2: lived together how many times on that work, and I
- 49:09Speaker 2: pull like your hair out of my butt.
- 49:11Speaker 3: I was just gonna say, like, yeah, you told me
- 49:13Speaker 3: you pulled my hair on your ass.
- 49:15Speaker 2: So it's not out of my ass. It's not like
- 49:18Speaker 2: in there. But you know what I mean.
- 49:20Speaker 3: Yeah, So I mean like I don't know. Like with
- 49:23Speaker 3: long hair, it just gets places. Yeah, it gets places.
- 49:27Speaker 2: Hair in general gets places. Look at my beard hair,
- 49:30Speaker 2: you find my ha The best place to put a
- 49:33Speaker 2: beard hair is on the urinals, just saying.
- 49:35Speaker 3: Oh God, that's disgusting, really long disgusting. Okay. So, prosecutors
- 49:41Speaker 3: claimed Scott made cement anchors to weigh Lacey's body down. However,
- 49:47Speaker 3: none were found when the bay was searched, even though
- 49:52Speaker 3: sonar could locate small objects on the seafloor. Because of
- 49:57Speaker 3: the way Lacey's body was found, it was believed her
- 50:00Speaker 3: limbs were weighed down with anchors, which makes sense. Scott
- 50:04Speaker 3: had cement in his warehouse that he used to make
- 50:06Speaker 3: himself one single anchor, but prosecutors believed marks on the
- 50:12Speaker 3: floor indicated he made more than one anchor.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Marks on the floor, Marks on the floor, okay.
- 50:20Speaker 3: It was tested by the defense how likely it would
- 50:24Speaker 3: be that a person could dump a body Lacey's size
- 50:28Speaker 3: from a boat like Scott's with the weight of the
- 50:30Speaker 3: anchors attached, and it seemed to be impossible without having
- 50:36Speaker 3: the boat capsize. So they tested this. They had this
- 50:40Speaker 3: a video. Because the judge deemed the test to not
- 50:44Speaker 3: be similar enough to what the prosecution presented had occurred,
- 50:49Speaker 3: the tape of this wasn't able to be introduced. Oh shit,
- 50:53Speaker 3: so I'm just like going through just some random weird
- 50:56Speaker 3: things about the court. Rou Com Cuters also presented as
- 51:02Speaker 3: evidence during the trial how Scott had changed his appearance
- 51:06Speaker 3: and purchased a vehicle using his mother's name in order
- 51:09Speaker 3: to avoid recognition by the press, and how he had
- 51:15Speaker 3: added two porn channels to his cable service only days
- 51:20Speaker 3: after Lacey's disappearance. They believe this meant he knew his
- 51:26Speaker 3: wife wouldn't be returning home. What yeah, that actually like
- 51:31Speaker 3: came the fuck up.
- 51:32Speaker 2: That's absolute malarchy, which I think is like.
- 51:37Speaker 3: People watch porn, yeah, and I mean the amount of
- 51:40Speaker 3: porn that's consumed. Like it's not just single people that
- 51:45Speaker 3: are consuming it.
- 51:46Speaker 2: No, definitely not. There are plenty of people in relationships
- 51:49Speaker 2: who consentually watch porn with and without the other individual.
- 51:53Speaker 2: And whether it's the other person does or doesn't know,
- 51:56Speaker 2: it's completely irrelevant. People do it.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but they I mean that brought up just
- 52:01Speaker 3: to like paint him being this probably like sexual obsessed person.
- 52:10Speaker 3: Really right.
- 52:12Speaker 2: I can't remember what the study was, but I read
- 52:13Speaker 2: this article quite a few years ago about some study
- 52:17Speaker 2: someone tried to do on a college campus about guys
- 52:22Speaker 2: and something to do with like why they didn't watch porn.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Some poll they were taking. However, they could not find
- 52:31Speaker 2: a single male who did not watch porn. Wow, So.
- 52:39Speaker 3: What does that tell you? Eh?
- 52:41Speaker 2: Exactly, Yeah, people watch porn YEP.
- 52:45Speaker 3: A hydrologist was also brought into the courtroom by the
- 52:50Speaker 3: prosecution as an expert witness on tides of the San
- 52:54Speaker 3: Francisco Bay. A big piece for them was that Scott
- 53:00Speaker 3: was fishing in the area Lacey was found, but during
- 53:04Speaker 3: cross examination it was admitted by the hydrodrologist that his
- 53:10Speaker 3: findings were probable, not precise, that title systems are sufficiently chaotic,
- 53:19Speaker 3: and he was unable to develop an exact model of
- 53:23Speaker 3: the body's disposal and travel, so his information is null. Yeah,
- 53:27Speaker 3: but they still have, like the prosecution still had him
- 53:31Speaker 3: in there.
- 53:31Speaker 2: What the fuck?
- 53:32Speaker 3: Which is It's just like everything is just so wow.
- 53:35Speaker 2: This seems like one of those cases where they are
- 53:40Speaker 2: they're trying to make the evidence fit. They're not trying
- 53:44Speaker 2: to follow the evidence. They have evidence and they're making
- 53:47Speaker 2: it fit their perception of what happened.
- 53:50Speaker 3: Well, and I didn't put this in the end, but
- 53:52Speaker 3: remember how I said, all those sightings of her walking
- 53:56Speaker 3: didn't make it to court. It's because they didn't fit.
- 53:58Speaker 3: The police bare even went and investigated those, like talk
- 54:04Speaker 3: to the people really like it was just like that
- 54:07Speaker 3: doesn't fit into this timeline, Like no, which is beyond
- 54:12Speaker 3: nuts because there was a lot of them that is so.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Fucked Are you are going to be talking about that
- 54:17Speaker 2: that break and enter the burglary?
- 54:19Speaker 3: Oh yeakay, that's kind Oh that's coming. Okay, we're almost
- 54:24Speaker 3: done here. So obviously the affair Scott had come up,
- 54:28Speaker 3: and the contents of the secretly recorded phone calls also
- 54:31Speaker 3: came up, which was evidence to go against Scott's character
- 54:35Speaker 3: and uses like a potential motive. The prosecution presented Scott's affair,
- 54:41Speaker 3: his desire to be single again, financial problems, and impending
- 54:46Speaker 3: fatherhood as motives for the murder. In the end, the
- 54:51Speaker 3: jury convicted Scott of two counts of murder, first degree
- 54:55Speaker 3: murder for killing Lacy and second degree murder for killing
- 54:59Speaker 3: the feet she carried. He was sentenced to death by
- 55:04Speaker 3: lethal injects. Holy really really. Jurors stated in later press
- 55:11Speaker 3: appearances they felt Scott's demeir, specifically his lack of emotion
- 55:18Speaker 3: and the phone calls to Amber days following Lacy's disappearance,
- 55:23Speaker 3: indicated his guilt. That does not seem like enough to
- 55:28Speaker 3: indicate guilt.
- 55:29Speaker 2: How does that indicate guilt?
- 55:31Speaker 3: The fact that he sat in the courtroom with like
- 55:33Speaker 3: little emotion.
- 55:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 55:37Speaker 3: Others said they based their verdict on hundreds of small
- 55:41Speaker 3: puzzle pieces of circumstantial evidence that came out during the trial.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Okay, circumstantial evidence, yes, but.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Okay, so I quickly wanted to go over a few
- 55:54Speaker 3: other possible theories to what may have happened to Lacey. Okay,
- 56:00Speaker 3: us with it that burglary I mentioned earlier that happened
- 56:04Speaker 3: across the street from the Peterson's home, Well, there's actually
- 56:07Speaker 3: a lot a lot to it, and it never came
- 56:11Speaker 3: up in court really because it was deemed as solved
- 56:16Speaker 3: with the people in custody saying they did the burglary
- 56:20Speaker 3: on the twenty sixth rather than the twenty fourth, and
- 56:24Speaker 3: the police accepted this.
- 56:26Speaker 2: Oh, they just accepted it. There's like, okay, but.
- 56:28Speaker 3: If you remember, that's basically impossible. Yeah, because on the
- 56:33Speaker 3: twenty sixth, the streets would have been lined with reporters, right,
- 56:37Speaker 3: so an incident of men stealing what they stole was
- 56:40Speaker 3: a safe from the house would not have gone unnoticed.
- 56:43Speaker 2: And there was an eyewitness that day on Christmas Eve,
- 56:46Speaker 2: which they're just like nope.
- 56:49Speaker 3: Also, when one of the cues was interviewed in regards
- 56:53Speaker 3: to the burglary, some of the first words out of
- 56:56Speaker 3: the mouth out of his mouth were I had nothing
- 56:58Speaker 3: to do with the pregnant girl.
- 57:00Speaker 2: What.
- 57:00Speaker 3: That wasn't even provoked really, that was not followed up on.
- 57:05Speaker 3: Rather just stated we're not here to talk about the
- 57:08Speaker 3: pregnant girl. I want to talk to you about the burglary.
- 57:14Speaker 2: What. As soon as they mentioned the pregnant girl, your
- 57:17Speaker 2: your question should have been what pregnant girl?
- 57:19Speaker 3: Yeah, like you should have switched some gears there and
- 57:22Speaker 3: been like, what do you mean?
- 57:24Speaker 2: Holy fuck?
- 57:26Speaker 3: Okay, Like that's doesn't that make you almost like a
- 57:29Speaker 3: goosebumps a little.
- 57:31Speaker 2: I already knew this.
- 57:32Speaker 3: I solved this game at the beginning. There was also
- 57:37Speaker 3: mention of this burglary within prison on a phone call
- 57:42Speaker 3: that ended up being taped. It was basically mentioned that
- 57:46Speaker 3: Lacey confronted the men at the house and they threatened her.
- 57:51Speaker 3: That tape was handed over to the Modesto police. But
- 57:54Speaker 3: at this time, guess what's missing?
- 57:56Speaker 2: Ope, the tape. I'm about to fucking rage. Quit this
- 58:01Speaker 2: whole episode. I'm sorry, but what the fuck like?
- 58:04Speaker 3: It is just mind blowing. Okay, this is another mind
- 58:07Speaker 3: blowing thing. So another really mess up theory is how
- 58:11Speaker 3: many missing women there's been in the missing pregnant women
- 58:16Speaker 3: story in the area. Apparently between nineteen ninety nine and
- 58:21Speaker 3: two thousand and two, seven pregnant women have disappeared totally
- 58:25Speaker 3: shit really, three in Modesto and four within eighty miles
- 58:31Speaker 3: of Modesto.
- 58:32Speaker 2: That sounds like a fucking pattern, like.
- 58:35Speaker 3: A serial killer or something.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:38Speaker 3: One victim, Evelyn Hernandez. She was found only six months
- 58:43Speaker 3: prior to Lacey going missing. She was also eight months pregnant,
- 58:49Speaker 3: also washed up on the shore of the San Francisco Bay,
- 58:52Speaker 3: and was in relatively the same condition as Lacey was
- 58:55Speaker 3: found in.
- 58:56Speaker 2: The actual fuck, maybe they could investigate that instead of
- 59:01Speaker 2: making all this shit fit Scott not to say that
- 59:04Speaker 2: Scott's not a fucking complete dbag. He is, clearly. However,
- 59:07Speaker 2: I don't think he committed this crime.
- 59:09Speaker 3: I know, I'm not certain that he did.
- 59:12Speaker 2: I'm like ninety nine fucking percent.
- 59:15Speaker 3: Okay, So I'm just gonna say, if you aren't to
- 59:18Speaker 3: dive into two more, I suggest there's a documentary that
- 59:22Speaker 3: I watch. It's The Murder of Lacy Peterson. It's on
- 59:24Speaker 3: Amazon Prime. Because there's even more mention in this documentary
- 59:29Speaker 3: of these theories. I don't have this written down, but
- 59:31Speaker 3: it was like, on that same day that Lacey was
- 59:36Speaker 3: I don't know, kidnapped or disappeared, another pregnant women woman
- 59:41Speaker 3: almost got taken.
- 59:43Speaker 2: Are you serious?
- 59:44Speaker 3: Yes?
- 59:45Speaker 2: Was that investigated?
- 59:47Speaker 3: Not really? So it's it's honestly, like just it's just
- 59:52Speaker 3: beyond fucked.
- 59:53Speaker 2: Who the fuck is in charge of this shit?
- 59:55Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 59:56Speaker 2: Is it like Officer Doofy from the how You Fucking
- 59:59Speaker 2: Like Scream? Not scream scary movie? So I wouldn't be surprised, geez.
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: There's also the theory she was killed by a satanic
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: cult as a sacrifice. So there's just like so many theories.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: I'm not going to go into a lot of detail
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: in that one. But apparently Modesta wasn't the quiet little
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: town some thought it was. It was just an illusion.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: And I don't know if the cult needed pregnant people,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Like I don't know, but like, go watch this documentary.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Do we know if there was anything actually stolen from
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: the neighbor's house the breaking ner.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: Yes, a safe I think was so safe? Yeah? Was
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: that it as far as I know?
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, huh. So here's here's my theory. So those
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: people went on vacation the same day that the house
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: was broken into.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: Mm hmm okay, like I think an hour before it
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: was pretty much an hour before it was broken into.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: They left like an hour before the house was broken into.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: So these people, in my opinion, clearly had knowledge of
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: These people leaving clearly had knowledge there was a safe
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: in the house. So it was someone who'd at least
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: been in the house, someone who's been in the neighborhood,
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: someone who may have a history of kidnapping and taking
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: pregnant women, who may have seen the neighbor across the street,
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: who may have seen her walking a dog in a
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: specific pattern, who may have thought, I can get a
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: safe out of this house when they leave and I
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: can get a pregnant woman all in the same go
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: h and that's exactly what fucking happened. And then, like
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: you say, learnt on the news that oh so and
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: so probably dumped the body when it was out in
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: the bay fishing. Shit, that's exactly where I'm gonna dump her,
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: and so he did. However, he's got a fucking pregnant
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: woman fetish, and he has some sort of fetish with
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: the fetus. He takes the fetus out, mutilates her body,
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: dumps her. I don't know what he does with the fetus,
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: but he probably has a little more care with it
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: because it's an unborn child. But he ends up dumping
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: it too and gets away fucking scott free. I know.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: It's actually interesting to know if there's any more disappearances
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: or anything of pregnant women. Yeah, but I mean, yeah, okay,
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: like gosh, this documentary is just coming back in my
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: head because there was even at some point someone had
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: like sighted a pregnant women that looked like Lacey Peet
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: or like had stopped to pee or whatever something outside
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: of Van oh, like.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: On the side of the road. Yeah, oh shit.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: But then there's like there was also these big problems
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: that she was wearing her body found washed up, was
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: wearing tan pants, but then like Scott had said that day,
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: she was wearing black pants, So I don't know there,
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: but like who knows, maybe they had a change of
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: pants or something for her, Like I don't know if. Okay,
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: So that back to that documentary. It's six episodes, so
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: it's like a bit of a time commitment. But so
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: if you don't have that much time, I would at
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: least watch the last episode because it was so eye
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: opening and goes into so many details about theories and
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: like what was potentially like missed and everything.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: I think so much was fucking missed in this case.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: It's Yeah, So Scott remains in prison. His death sentence
- 1:03:27Speaker 3: was overturned due to jurors apparently being dismissed who opposed
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: capital punishment, and there is currently the possibility Scott could
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: get a new trial. Okay, from my understanding, there is
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: an uppending ger misconduct issue that it judges to rule
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: on by the end of September of this year, twenty
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: twenty two, whether Scott will be granted a new trial.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: I think you should. But in a new trial, that's
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: there's major problems with new trials though, because stuff that
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: was used in previous trials can't be used again. Ken
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: it Oh, I don't think so. Anyways, I could be incorrect,
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: but I'm pretty sure stuff that has been previously used
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: in a trial cannot be used again.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: But honestly, that could be good because like, look at
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: how many like they could bring in the burglary. They
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: could bring in all the eyewitnesses for the lock.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: However, what if there is stuff that was used in
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: this previous trial that was important. What if Scott did
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: do it? What if they bring in all the information
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: they do still find out that it was Scott.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean even if one if there was a
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: problem like with one juror, there was still eleven other
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: jurors that you know, said this dude's guilty. Yeah he is.
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: He is entitled to twelve jurors. So I don't know.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: If this goes back to court, that could be something
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: super interesting.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: Eh oh Yeah. And my personal opinion, from what we've discussed,
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: I don't think Scott did it. I've already described my
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: theory and I think that's exactly what it played out.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: It's got to be someone known to that family across
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: the street, whether very well known, someone who's been inside
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: the house that I know, or maybe not even inside
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: the house, but someone who knows him personally, coworker or
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: something like that, and they just so happened to be
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: a fucking pregnant woman killer. That's what I think.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I have a lot of trouble with
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: such a lack of evidence. Yeah, really being able to
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: be like, yeah, he did it.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: And the overlooked evidence. The overlooked evidence is the problem
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: with me making the shit fit their theory without trying
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: to follow the evidence and find out where it leads,
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: because you miss shit that way.
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: And so Scott's family is like very actively still trying
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: to fight for his innocence. He's still actively to this
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: day says that he's innocent as well. I mean, I'm
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: sure there are people in jail who have committed crimes.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: You say that, Yeah, the serial killer in the cell
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: next to them. Yeah, me too, Bud, Right.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: So I don't know, but yeah, it's it's the media
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: had I feel like, made this very cut and dry,
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: and they even said, like there was so many reports
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: that put out that later were wrong, or like articles
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: that later were wrong, but they never retract them, right,
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: They just like move on to the next thing.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like that with any case and any any
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: sort of new source that covers cases like this. They
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: will vilify someone until they find out they were wrong,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: and they'll do that for views or what ratings or
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: whatever it is. When they find out they're wrong, they
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: don't generally do an apology or retract it. They just
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: stop talking about it and move on to something else.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: Or if they do retract it where no one reads that,
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: it's probably in some tiny ass fine print somewhere or
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: in the magazine or whatever right.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: Exactly, or if it is like on a TV bulletin
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: where it's like the news anchor talking about it, it'll
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: probably be in the fucking bottom of the credits that
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: scroll by at the end of the fucking show or
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: something like yeah shit, because ratings money, they don't want
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: to be perceived as incorrect.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: Mm hmm. So just really quickly, I want to like
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: thank everyone for their patients my voice. I feel like
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: it did not bad, and then I'd also like I'll
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: put a post on social tomorrow. But I'm like so
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: curious to just know what other people think, Yeah.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: Where do you think? Uh, where do you think the
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: whole thing lies? Is it in scott or is it
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: in someone else's responsibility?
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: Yeah, so let us know what you think.
