Latest / We Are More: Sisters Talk Faith & Feminism / Ep. 8: How Do You Solve a Problem Like Harrison?
Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to the We Are More podcast. My name is Alyssa.
- 0:15And my name's Bri. We're two sisters passionate about all things faith and feminism.
- 0:21We believe that Jesus trusted, respected, and encouraged women to teach and preach His
- 0:25Word. And apparently that's controversial.
- 0:28Get comfy.
- 0:30Hello!
- 0:32Hello!
- 0:34Welcome to our very first ever special edition.
- 0:47Special edition! Read all about it!
- 0:50I feel like the newsies. Should I break out into song?
- 0:54Please, please do. As is our tradition.
- 0:58Do you know any songs from the newsies?
- 0:59Yeah, I do! But I'll keep them to myself.
- 1:04Till later.
- 1:05Till later. I'll probably listen to it in the car later.
- 1:08So we have decided to do something a little bit different. We wanted to start recording
- 1:13weekly.
- 1:14You're welcome.
- 1:16But based on our work schedules, it's kind of hard to do a full episode every single
- 1:21week.
- 1:22Because believe it or not, this is not our full time job.
- 1:25Yeah, though we do seem very professional.
- 1:29I think my full time job is just surviving.
- 1:33That sounds right.
- 1:37So right now we're posting every other week. So you guys heard episode 7 last week, and
- 1:43then episode 8 will be coming up next week. And on the in between weeks, we've decided
- 1:48to do something a little bit different, a little shorter. Yeah. And do like a half hour
- 1:53episode if we can shut ourselves up.
- 1:58Let's not give a time limit.
- 1:59Oh, who knows what it'll be.
- 2:00In theory.
- 2:01We're just gonna talk as long as we want.
- 2:04And then eventually we'll shut up.
- 2:05But we do have to go to mom's for dinner. So...
- 2:07Hi, mom.
- 2:09And dad.
- 2:10And dad.
- 2:11They share a house.
- 2:12They do.
- 2:13So, but we're going to try and keep this one to more of like current events, I guess.
- 2:20Yeah, just like our thoughts, nothing like super heavy, I would say.
- 2:25But we're gonna try and keep it because our other episodes we record a little ahead. So
- 2:31you're not necessarily hearing them in real time. But we're gonna try and do these a little
- 2:34bit more in real time so that we can talk about things that are happening right now
- 2:38in the world.
- 2:40And right now in the world.
- 2:43Transition. Has anybody heard of Harrison Butker?
- 2:48I think perhaps they have at this point.
- 2:51I don't know if it's like as, you know, how your TikTok algorithm is specific to you.
- 2:57But it's like, is everybody else hearing about this as much as I am? But I think they are.
- 3:02I think they are. It's everywhere right now. And to be fair, it's doing the same thing
- 3:06to me. All of my news articles are about this on Facebook. But it's because I click on them.
- 3:11Right. Right. It's like the shoes.
- 3:13Yeah. Oh, I finally caved in about the shoes, everybody.
- 3:18Here's the thing. Did you talk about that in episode seven or eight? Because otherwise
- 3:21you'll be confused.
- 3:24I've been trying to buy these shoes for months.
- 3:27I think it's been like a week and a half.
- 3:32I've been like, I won't buy them. I won't buy them. I won't buy them. I don't need them.
- 3:36I bought them.
- 3:39Sounds like your process for everything.
- 3:40Yeah.
- 3:41And I say that like it's not my process.
- 3:46If you advertise something to me enough, eventually I'll buy it.
- 3:49Good. That's a great message. The little AI box are already listening.
- 3:53Yeah. They're like, that's probably why you get so many spam calls. They're like, well,
- 3:58if we call her enough, eventually she'll give us her social security number.
- 4:02All right. And Bri's social security number is...
- 4:06Anyway, back on topic.
- 4:07On topic.
- 4:08The Kansas City Chiefs.
- 4:10Yes. Because we are now a football channel.
- 4:13We are athletes ourselves.
- 4:15Oh, so much.
- 4:16Honestly, I could be the kicker.
- 4:19I think you should.
- 4:20I should.
- 4:21I think it would go really well for you.
- 4:28I did get an A in my Frisbee class.
- 4:30Yes. But what did you get a C in, Brianna?
- 4:34A C minus in, Alyssa? Was badminton.
- 4:39You can barely say badminton.
- 4:41Badminton. Badminton, badminton, badminton.
- 4:44Still badminton.
- 4:45No. I was an art major.
- 4:49Anyway, this is going to be a spazzy one. We're only four minutes in though. We usually
- 4:55are spazzy until like minute 10.
- 4:57Yeah, we can cut some of this out.
- 4:58Well, but why though? We won't.
- 5:00No, this is a short, snappy episode.
- 5:06So if you haven't heard what happened, is he the kicker for the Chiefs? Is that what
- 5:11he is?
- 5:12He is the kicker.
- 5:13So he is the Chiefs gave a commencement speech at a Catholic college, correct?
- 5:18Benedictine, I think is how you say it.
- 5:21And you've watched the whole speech. I've watched snippets of it and read a lot of stuff
- 5:26about it, but you watched the whole speech.
- 5:27I listened to it while I was in the shower.
- 5:29That's strange.
- 5:30That's when I had time.
- 5:34So kind of elaborate on, since you listened to the whole thing.
- 5:38Now I did listen to it a while ago, so I'm going to have to reach back into the cobwebs
- 5:42of my brain to remember it all.
- 5:45But I encourage everybody to go and watch it. It's like 20 something minutes of your
- 5:50time that you'll never get back.
- 5:55Essentially he insults everybody he possibly can in the name of God.
- 6:00Don't you love that?
- 6:03But one of the key takeaways is the way that he speaks to women.
- 6:08So one of the lines from his speech is like, now I know all of you women here are excited
- 6:14about graduating and all the accomplishments that you'll have in your life and all the
- 6:20promotions that you'll get.
- 6:21But I think the biggest promotion or your biggest...
- 6:28I bet you're all most excited for your greatest role, which is wife and mother.
- 6:34According to a room full of women who have just received the exact same degree as a room
- 6:40full of men.
- 6:41Yep. And statistically with higher grades.
- 6:43I believe he also said something about if you think that your higher calling is a career
- 6:48or something you've been lied to.
- 6:51So the quote that I think is the biggest summary of what he says, because it's all garbage,
- 6:59but he says, I think it is you the women who have had the most diabolical lies told to
- 7:05you.
- 7:06Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess
- 7:10that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will
- 7:13bring into this world.
- 7:15No.
- 7:16I want to point out that he also talks about a lot of other things in this speech.
- 7:24He insults everyone.
- 7:25He goes on to talk about his wife and how she had dreams of her own.
- 7:33But because her higher calling is to be a wife and mother, she did not get to achieve
- 7:39those dreams.
- 7:40And if you asked her, she would laugh in your face and say, ha ha ha.
- 7:44No, this is good.
- 7:46This is all I ever wanted.
- 7:47Which okay, let me just point out.
- 7:49If that is the path that you want to walk down, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 7:53There's nothing wrong with it.
- 7:54Like your dreams can change.
- 7:56If you originally planned to have some big career and then you had kids and you realized
- 8:01that you wanted to be a stay at home mom and take care of them, that's fine.
- 8:04There's nothing wrong with that.
- 8:06The issue is turning around and telling every other woman on the planet, because this worked
- 8:11for me, because this is what I decided that I wanted, now it has to be what you want.
- 8:17Not just because I say so, but because God says so.
- 8:21I think what's so frustrating too is this is the message all the time to women is, well,
- 8:27your highest calling is to be a wife and mother.
- 8:31So because of that, when you get married, your dreams mean nothing.
- 8:36Put your dreams aside, raise up your husband's dreams, support him fully, support your kids,
- 8:43and you just, you mean less.
- 8:46Well everybody else in that scenario gets to chase after their dreams.
- 8:51The husband gets to do whatever it is that he wants to do.
- 8:55And you just have to sit there and say, go ahead sweetie, I've got things at home.
- 9:00Don't worry about it.
- 9:01You do whatever feels fulfilling to you and I'll sit over here.
- 9:06Right.
- 9:07It's just, again for me, makes marriage not sound very fulfilling.
- 9:12I mean really, I can't blame you in that because if that is really what Christian marriage
- 9:18is, I mean I feel like we harp on this a lot.
- 9:20But if that's really what Christian marriage is, forget it.
- 9:23I want nothing to do with that either.
- 9:26It's not a good time.
- 9:27I mean I can't say that for sure.
- 9:29I've never experienced it, but it doesn't sound like a great time.
- 9:33So we'll talk about a few of the responses from some of the football players because
- 9:38quite a few people have now responded to this speech because it was well publicized and
- 9:43very controversial.
- 9:45I want to first, so... butker.
- 9:50First I want to make fun of his name.
- 9:54It's not a great name guys.
- 9:56Butker.
- 9:57So he has now responded.
- 10:01It took him a good bit to respond, but this is one of the things that he said.
- 10:07As to be expected, the more I've talked about what I value most, which is my Catholic faith,
- 10:12the more polarizing I've become.
- 10:14That's a decision I've consciously made and one I do not regret at all.
- 10:18Now I was thinking about this.
- 10:21So it's Sunday, we were in church this morning and I was thinking about this in church.
- 10:26I want to respond to that and say, because I believe he goes on to say, and I do what
- 10:32I do to make Jesus proud of me, not to make the world proud of me.
- 10:37And I want to sit here and say, well, Jesus isn't proud of you.
- 10:41And there's, you know, I don't want to put words in God's mouth.
- 10:45But at the same time, so in church today, the pastor was talking about having the power
- 10:49and authority of Christ.
- 10:52And that Jesus gives you those things to go against what's in the world that God doesn't
- 10:58want to be there.
- 10:59And I sincerely believe that this, this speech, this attitude, this whole male domination
- 11:09and stupidness is not what God wants in the world.
- 11:13So God has given us as Christians the power and authority to speak against that.
- 11:19So I'm going to say with the power and authority of God, that he's full of crap.
- 11:27I think too, the Bible says the greatest commandment is to love one another and show God's love.
- 11:35God is not showing God's love in no small way.
- 11:40You're belittling over 50% of his creation and lying to the other 50%.
- 11:47Well, I guess lying to everybody, but it's polarizing and rude.
- 11:55And I think it, they say all publicity is good publicity or whatever, but this is not
- 12:01good publicity for your faith or for God.
- 12:05That's just another reason why people don't want to be Christians because they see us
- 12:10as the traditional 1950s, like patriarchal society and the rest of the world is moving.
- 12:19They're growing.
- 12:20They're learning that we should respect everybody.
- 12:24We're stuck in the past.
- 12:25Well, and yeah, if you were not someone of faith, if you were someone that had intentionally
- 12:29left the church and you hear this speech, the first thing I, in my opinion, that would
- 12:35come to my mind would be, well, that's exactly why I'm not there anymore.
- 12:40That's exactly why I don't follow God anymore or why I will never follow God.
- 12:44Because if that's what you think of God, run away.
- 12:48I mean, that sounds terrible.
- 12:50And also I want to point out, maybe this is a little not on topic, but think of all the
- 12:55historical women out there who have made incredible contributions to society.
- 13:01We were just talking about Marie Curie and Barbara Streisand.
- 13:06There are countless women through history telling them that, yeah, what you did is fine,
- 13:13but that's not your greatest calling.
- 13:16That's insulting.
- 13:17And let's again, and like I said, we've made this point before, but the women of the Bible,
- 13:24you don't hear, no one in the Bible is saying women, your greatest calling is to be a wife
- 13:28and mother.
- 13:29Well, what about women who can't be mothers?
- 13:32Right.
- 13:33Are you telling them that they have no great calling?
- 13:36I mean, he is, yes.
- 13:37He absolutely is saying that.
- 13:39Not only if you don't, if you physically can't have kids, but like what if you don't want
- 13:44to too?
- 13:45Well, then you, according to him, you're doing something wrong.
- 13:50You are not fulfilling God's calling on your life.
- 13:54And that's the issue here is like, I mean, again, you get to have the opinions that you
- 13:58want to have.
- 13:59I'm not going to approve of them, but you stick God's name in it and it becomes something
- 14:06really terrible.
- 14:09And I think you can, I mean, you see that throughout history, right?
- 14:13Like anytime you have religious authorities ruling a country, things like that, and they'll
- 14:18stick God's name on what they want to have happen.
- 14:24Like well, I want you to do this.
- 14:26So I'm going to say God told me I am ordained.
- 14:30Right.
- 14:31And it becomes extremely manipulative because you call someone's eternity into question.
- 14:37You call someone's relationship with their creator into question.
- 14:41Like if I don't believe that my greatest calling is to be a wife and mother, then I'm going
- 14:48against God and the natural order of things and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 14:53We would argue to say you are more.
- 14:56And again, like if you want to be a wife and mother, and that is all you've ever wanted
- 15:01to be, all the more power to you.
- 15:04Oh, absolutely.
- 15:05Follow your bliss.
- 15:06Yeah.
- 15:07But saying all women's greatest callings by God is to be a wife and mother, that's, it's
- 15:12just not true.
- 15:13Right.
- 15:14And so we have a really wonderful cousin and she gave a speech.
- 15:20We do have a lot of great cousins.
- 15:23We have a really, we have a my big fat Greek wedding style family and we're all super close,
- 15:29but one of our cousins, she is an incredible speaker and she's, I believe she gave this
- 15:34speech last weekend and she had us read over it.
- 15:38And one of the points that she made that I thought was so impactful was that even if
- 15:45you decide to be a stay at home mom and that is what you want out of life, your greatest
- 15:50calling still is not to be a wife and mother, it is to share God's love with the world,
- 15:57to go and make disciples of the world.
- 16:00That is your greatest calling.
- 16:03That's everybody's greatest calling.
- 16:05Exactly.
- 16:06Not that your spouse and children are not important if you choose to have a spouse and
- 16:11child, but that even within that, they are not your greatest calling.
- 16:19God called you to more.
- 16:23And you can see that throughout the Bible as God calls his apostles to go take his word
- 16:29further as Deborah spreads God's love and God's, well, I don't know that she spread
- 16:35God love.
- 16:36She spread it.
- 16:37She spread it.
- 16:38She spread it.
- 16:39Deborah didn't.
- 16:40I don't know if love is what I would describe Deborah's.
- 16:41She spread the rage.
- 16:42I mean, yeah, a little bit.
- 16:45But like, and Phoebe and, you know, all of these women of the Bible, that was their greatest
- 16:51calling.
- 16:52Some of them were wives and mothers also, also a large calling for them from God, but
- 16:58not their greatest calling.
- 17:00Who was Anna?
- 17:02Anna, Anna, it might've been Anna who was widowed and then just spent her days in the
- 17:09church.
- 17:10Yeah.
- 17:11That was her whole calling is to live in the church.
- 17:13She spent her life dedicated to Christ.
- 17:15Yeah, exactly.
- 17:16Speaking of spending your life dedicated to Christ, the Benedictine monks, not monks,
- 17:22I'm sorry, nuns, thank you.
- 17:25They have made a statement about this.
- 17:27I love a nun.
- 17:29Okay, so they have kind of denounced his speech, which I think is funny because this was a
- 17:36Benedictine college.
- 17:37Yeah.
- 17:38So the nuns are pissed at him.
- 17:41Saying pissed does not mean I have to mark this as explicit.
- 17:43Piss, piss, piss.
- 17:48There's like a little button when I post like, is this explicit?
- 17:52And the one time we said boobs like 12 times, I was like, maybe?
- 17:54I don't think boobs is explicit.
- 17:57Anyway, this might be.
- 18:02So they said, instead of promoting unity in our church, our nation, and the world, his
- 18:07comments seem to have fostered division.
- 18:10That's good, nuns.
- 18:11Nice work.
- 18:12So they were not happy because, and I believe they, I'm gonna try and find it, they go on
- 18:19to say that they, as a group, do not have a calling as wives and mothers.
- 18:25Yeah.
- 18:26They have dedicated their lives to God.
- 18:29And are you really going to walk into a group of nuns and tell them you're doing something
- 18:33wrong in God's eyes here as you've dedicated your entire life to God?
- 18:36They're either going to beat you up or they're going to sing to you.
- 18:41There's no in between.
- 18:45I think we've watched them too many times.
- 18:50We've got to remember that.
- 19:00We'll save it as that.
- 19:02So the nuns are pissed.
- 19:09But I want to talk about what you said about Travis Kelsey's response.
- 19:14So Travi, if you don't know him, Taylor Swift's boy.
- 19:23That feels reductive.
- 19:26Also is on the Kansas City Chiefs and he responded to Harrison's speech.
- 19:32Speech.
- 19:33Whatever.
- 19:34Garbage.
- 19:35Also, Harrison quoted Taylor Swift in his speech.
- 19:42Yes.
- 19:43Taylor Swift, who's brought so much money and fame to the Kansas City Chiefs and you're
- 19:47telling her that her grade is going.
- 19:52If you could just give up everything you're doing right now, Taylor, and go be a wife
- 19:57and mom, give up all of your dreams and let him have his dreams, I think that would be
- 20:01good.
- 20:02I know that you're probably excited doing what you're doing, but.
- 20:06But that's not what God wanted for you.
- 20:07So just quit now.
- 20:10That's enough bedazzles.
- 20:13And she is such a strong feminist.
- 20:17So to use her words in that, I'm a little surprised we haven't heard more from her.
- 20:23Or she just doesn't want to give him the time of day.
- 20:25That's very possible.
- 20:26He has gotten a lot of press out of this.
- 20:28And frankly, so this is a slight side note as we get to 23 minutes.
- 20:33I think all of this was very planned out on his part because you look at his quote from
- 20:39Taylor Swift, like why would you do that?
- 20:41What a choice.
- 20:42This girl goes to all of your games.
- 20:44Is that really the enemy you want to make?
- 20:47He in my mind wanted as much press as humanly possible because Travis Kelsey has gotten
- 20:54all of the attention for the last season.
- 20:56I mean, for goodness sake, in my house, we've actually turned on a football game or two
- 21:01because my daughter wants to see Taylor Swift at the football game.
- 21:04Your nine year old daughter is like, let's turn on football.
- 21:07And every time she hears Travis Kelsey mentioned, it's like, Taylor Swift, why?
- 21:13For Halloween, she wants to dress up as Taylor Swift and she wants her two year old brother
- 21:17to dress up as Travis Kelsey.
- 21:19I'm not even kidding.
- 21:21But he's gotten all the attention this season, right?
- 21:24From people that don't watch football at all.
- 21:27I mean, I know the names of these people.
- 21:29I know.
- 21:30Who am I?
- 21:31I know.
- 21:32What on earth?
- 21:33I might know this is totally a theory, totally in Alyssa's own head.
- 21:38But my thought is that he did this intentionally.
- 21:41The man's 27 years old, okay?
- 21:42He's a baby.
- 21:43He's a baby.
- 21:44His brain hasn't even fully developed.
- 21:47He does not.
- 21:48He's a baby.
- 21:51He doesn't know what he's talking about in this realm.
- 21:54It's not like he's sitting there researching this.
- 21:56He didn't go to seminary.
- 21:57Don't give me this crap.
- 21:58He could go to the Catholic college.
- 22:01He could.
- 22:02I don't know.
- 22:03I'm not talking about Christian college.
- 22:04I'm talking about seminary, where you study the Bible.
- 22:09And I think he brought Taylor Swift into it.
- 22:13He brought all of these things into it, knowing full well that he's not going to get fired
- 22:18because the NFL has a track record of backing people, whether they're abusive or not, whether
- 22:23they're saying garbage or not.
- 22:24Because it's all about the game.
- 22:26Right.
- 22:27I mean, the NFL has done this countless times.
- 22:28So he knows he's not going to get fired, but he also knows he's going to get all kinds
- 22:33of attention for this.
- 22:35So that's my theory.
- 22:36Little offshoot there.
- 22:37Yeah.
- 22:38But circling back.
- 22:40Circling back.
- 22:41Travis essentially said, I don't really agree with him, but he can have the opinions he
- 22:47wants to have.
- 22:48And he's a really nice guy.
- 22:50I'm sure.
- 22:51To you.
- 22:52Yeah.
- 22:53Sure.
- 22:54Because you're a man.
- 22:55So I had said, I think a while back, I want to change it up because sexism gets a lot
- 23:02of excuses.
- 23:03Well, it's just his beliefs and I don't want to disregard what he believes and blah, blah,
- 23:09blah.
- 23:10You can think what you want to think and I can think what I want to think.
- 23:13Exactly.
- 23:14But let's put this in a different context for a minute.
- 23:17Now he put down a lot of other groups, but let's change this particular statement where
- 23:23he talks about women and pretend it's instead of sexist, racist.
- 23:28Let's say he's speaking to people of a different race.
- 23:32And he says, essentially, stay where I've put you.
- 23:38Follow the rules that I say you should follow.
- 23:42Your highest calling is what I tell you it is and no higher.
- 23:47Don't dream bigger than this.
- 23:49And I'm saying this because I believe God wants that for you too.
- 23:54This is on behalf of the creator.
- 23:58You as someone of a different race than me needs to stay under my authority, under my
- 24:03thumb, do as I tell you, your highest calling is what I tell you it is because God said
- 24:10so.
- 24:12And then someone's like, well, you're allowed to have your opinions.
- 24:16If he had done that, that wouldn't be the conversation.
- 24:21No, it would be all over the news.
- 24:24He is a racist.
- 24:25He is awful.
- 24:26If you kick him off of the NFL, no one can ever speak his name again.
- 24:31Throw him in the trash.
- 24:33But because it's against women, we make all kinds of excuses for it.
- 24:38Well, it's just his religion.
- 24:40It's just his faith.
- 24:42And I can't tell someone what to believe.
- 24:45We need diversity.
- 24:47We do need diversity, but we don't need diversity that puts down other people.
- 24:54That's not the kind of diversity we need.
- 24:56We need diversity of people, different races, different genders, different all kinds of things.
- 25:05It really upsets me that the response to this has been, well, you know, it's his faith.
- 25:12It's his religion.
- 25:13He's a, I promise he's a really good guy.
- 25:16This doesn't sound like a good guy to me.
- 25:19And the thing is, if someone is kind to you, is nice to you, that doesn't mean that behind
- 25:26closed doors they are that way.
- 25:29Because to me, this speech says, I keep my wife under my thumb.
- 25:34She does what I tell her to do.
- 25:37She follows me wherever I want to go because I have big dreams.
- 25:43And look at me go.
- 25:44Right.
- 25:45I'm barely even gonna say her name because she's not important in this conversation.
- 25:51The only reason he brought her up at all was to tell women where they should go.
- 25:56Well, because it seems to add some credibility.
- 26:00If you can say, well, there is actually a woman that loves this.
- 26:05Now it'd be a totally different story if she got up there.
- 26:08I wouldn't agree with her either.
- 26:09But if she got up there and was like, yes, your greatest calling is to be a wife and
- 26:13mother, I know this because that's my life.
- 26:16But instead, he's telling all of the women where they should go, what they should do,
- 26:21what they should dream about.
- 26:23Well, and let's pull it completely out of women versus men kind of thing and just say,
- 26:30nowhere in the Bible does God tell us as Christ followers to tell other Christ followers what
- 26:38he's telling them to do.
- 26:40Right.
- 26:41Because I am not your intermediary.
- 26:43You can talk to God and figure out what God wants from you.
- 26:48And you should think if you think that I am a good Christian, you should assume that I
- 26:54can also talk to God and figure out what he wants me to do.
- 26:59Not that you need to tell me what God, like that's, that's just clunky.
- 27:04I also think, I don't know if this is a fully formed thought or not, but in a church service
- 27:11one time they were talking about if you really believe that something like another Christ
- 27:19follower is doing is wrong, you're not just supposed to walk up to them and say what you're
- 27:25doing is wrong in the name of God.
- 27:27You're supposed to create a bond and a relationship with that person.
- 27:31And then when God tells you that it's right, then you might be able to gently bring it
- 27:37up to that person.
- 27:39But you're not just supposed to walk up to them, slap them in the face and say, see you
- 27:43by what you're doing is wrong.
- 27:44Or get up on a stage and tell a whole bunch of people that you think what they're doing
- 27:48is wrong.
- 27:49Because that is not spreading the love of Jesus.
- 27:53Well that's simply spreading judgment.
- 27:56Divide.
- 27:57Right.
- 27:58Well, exactly what the nuns said.
- 28:00It's creating division.
- 28:03Because now the response from the Christian community has been interesting because you
- 28:08have the people that are like, oh yeah, he's championing traditional whatever, you know,
- 28:14a traditional livelihood.
- 28:17And then you have the people like us sitting here saying, no, he's being super sexist and
- 28:24terrible and we have no support for anything that he's saying.
- 28:28And so now you've got division in the church.
- 28:30Not division that wasn't there at all, but you're simply highlighting it is what's happening.
- 28:35You're taking something that could have been a discussion between friends and turning it
- 28:43into a fight.
- 28:45Right.
- 28:47And yeah, to some degree on this podcast, like we're starting a little bit of a fight.
- 28:52But we're doing it, I hope, in such a way that's opening up conversations in families,
- 29:01for women, in churches, wherever we happen to reach you.
- 29:06I hope that it can start a conversation.
- 29:10And I hope that we're providing some of the resources to in a very educated way start
- 29:14that conversation.
- 29:16You're slightly more educated than me.
- 29:19I don't think so.
- 29:20You're right, I'm brilliant.
- 29:21But we're both learning as we go.
- 29:24And I think we said that in the first episode.
- 29:27We are learning all of this with you.
- 29:29And the reason that we do it is because things like this have started a fire in us.
- 29:36All week, Brianna has been talking about like, we need to talk about Harrison Becker.
- 29:43So finally here we are after church recording about it.
- 29:47But I think that's why we're here.
- 29:49That's why we're doing this, because this all has made us super passionate about something.
- 29:56And I believe that today, right now, sharing this with all of you and talking about this
- 30:04with all of you is my greatest calling.
- 30:08Because I think that God has asked this of me.
- 30:12God has asked me to stop sexism from being a part of the churches that we're in.
- 30:21And I don't think I can do that 100%.
- 30:24I don't think Bri can do that 100%.
- 30:25I can.
- 30:28We do this together because we hope that it can affect just a couple of people.
- 30:32Like the song that we sang in church today, Who Am I To Deny What The Lord Can Do?
- 30:37Because what was the other song that we sang?
- 30:40I can see that it was very impactful to you.
- 30:43It was good!
- 30:45They were all good.
- 30:51So next week, because now we only have a week between episodes, hopefully we can stick with
- 30:57this and make sure that we get some mini episodes up for you guys.
- 31:01So next week is going to be part two of our submission series.
- 31:05The biggest.
- 31:06The big-est.
- 31:07I was like when you were like, dot dot dot, it's submission.
- 31:10I just wanted to be clear.
- 31:13Before people thought we were cussing online.
- 31:16So you will hear about another article.
- 31:18So the last week we talked about a lot of the main points that get made to say that
- 31:24submission was before the fall, so before sin entered the world and that it was God's
- 31:28perfect plan for humanity.
- 31:31And I hope you listened to that one.
- 31:33If you didn't, definitely bounce back and listen to it.
- 31:35It was great.
- 31:36We had a lot of fun.
- 31:37We had a lot of rage.
- 31:38We had a lot of rage.
- 31:39We need to work on that.
- 31:40It's fine.
- 31:41It's female rage.
- 31:42The musical.
- 31:43Right!
- 31:44We're going to have to stop saying that once she copyrights it.
- 31:49I feel like that is definitely, if you've ever driven in a car with me, that is female
- 31:54rage the musical.
- 31:55Because not only am I raging, but also the music's on.
- 31:58And sometimes it's Taylor Swift.
- 32:01Yeah.
- 32:02A lot of the times.
- 32:03So next week we're going to talk about another article and she goes into the passage in Ephesians
- 32:08that talks about submission.
- 32:11And she breaks it down and talks about... she doesn't sing.
- 32:15She breaks it down.
- 32:16No, she doesn't.
- 32:19And talks about what it really means.
- 32:21She breaks the Greek words out and things like that.
- 32:25So we'll talk through that.
- 32:27And that one's also really fun.
- 32:28I'm super excited for that one.
- 32:29Shout out to all the really educated, wonderful women out there who are...
- 32:35I think they're making waves in this space.
- 32:38Yeah.
- 32:39And maybe that's us too.
- 32:40Good for us.
- 32:41Yeah, yes.
- 32:42So definitely tune in next week.
- 32:44If you haven't, follow us on our social media.
- 32:45We're on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, all the places.
- 32:53I think Bree has been filming some TikToks as I've been doing this, but I'm not sure.
- 32:57I did.
- 32:58Okay, good.
- 32:59I have a pretty nice picture of myself.
- 33:01I look good today.
- 33:03Okay, guys.
- 33:04We'll see you next week.
