- Lucas: Hei Luna, velkommen tilbake til nok en episode av Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. Luna: Hei Lucas! I'm ready to learn. What are we doing today? Lucas: Today we're going to learn a really useful verb: å vente. That means 'to wait'. Luna: Å vente. To wait. Like when you're stuck in line at the store? Lucas: Exactly. We wait all the time. So let's start with the basics. Å vente. Say it with me. Luna: Å vente. Lucas: Great. Now, the present tense: jeg venter. That means 'I wait' or 'I am waiting'. Luna: Jeg venter. I am waiting. That's pretty easy. Lucas: Right. And you can use that in a sentence like: Jeg venter på bussen. I am waiting for the bus. Luna: Jeg venter på bussen. I'm waiting for the bus. That's a classic. Lucas: It is. Now, a very common phrase is: vent litt. That means 'wait a bit' or 'hold on'. Luna: Vent litt. Wait a bit. Like when you need a second to think. Lucas: Exactly. Vent litt, and then you continue. Let's try that one. Luna: Vent litt. Vent litt. I like that. Lucas: So we have å vente, jeg venter, vent litt. Now let's add a personal touch: jeg venter på deg. That means 'I am waiting for you'. Luna: Jeg venter på deg. I am waiting for you. That's sweet, in a way. Lucas: It is. You could say that to a friend who's always late. Luna: Oh, that's definitely me. I'm the one who's late. So they'd say that to me. Lucas: Exactly. And you could respond with: Beklager, jeg kommer snart. Sorry, I'm coming soon. But that's for another episode. Luna: Okay, so I have to say: jeg venter på deg. Jeg venter på deg. I'm waiting for you. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put it all together in a tiny scene. Imagine we're at a café. I'm ordering coffee, and you're sitting at a table. You might say: jeg venter på deg. Luna: Jeg venter på deg. And then you come over with the coffee. Lucas: Exactly. And I'd say: takk, du er best. Thanks, you're the best. But let's focus on waiting. Luna: Okay. So we have å vente, jeg venter, vent litt, jeg venter på deg. That's a lot already. Lucas: We have one more useful one: vi venter. That means 'we are waiting'. Luna: Vi venter. We are waiting. Like when you're with friends. Lucas: Exactly. Vi venter på toget. We are waiting for the train. Luna: Vi venter på toget. That's a good one. Lucas: Alright, let's review all the phrases. Å vente. Jeg venter. Vent litt. Jeg venter på deg. Vi venter. Luna: Å vente. Jeg venter. Vent litt. Jeg venter på deg. Vi venter. I think I've got them. Lucas: You do. And remember, you can use these in so many situations. Lucas: And if you want to be more polite, you can say: vent litt, vær så snill. Wait a bit, please. Luna: Vent litt, vær så snill. Wait a bit, please. I like that. Lucas: Now, let's practice a short dialogue. I'll ask you a question, and you answer with one of our phrases. Are you ready? Luna: I'm ready. Lucas: Hva gjør du? What are you doing? Luna: Jeg venter på deg. I'm waiting for you. Lucas: Great. Now, what if I say: Kan du vente litt? Can you wait a bit? Luna: Ja, vent litt. Yes, wait a bit. Wait, that's not right. I should say: jeg venter. I am waiting. Lucas: That works too. But if someone asks you to wait, you can just say: vent litt. That's a bit like saying 'hold on'. Luna: Ah, okay. So if you ask me to wait, I can say vent litt back? That seems like I'm telling you to wait. Lucas: In a playful context, yes. But more often, you'd say: jeg venter. I'm waiting. Or: jeg venter på deg. I'm waiting for you. Luna: Got it. Jeg venter på deg. That's my go-to. Lucas: Now, let's do one more review. I'll say the English, and you say the Norwegian. Luna: Okay.
