- 0:03This is Living Waters of Grace, the teaching ministry of Clark
- 0:08Wofford, senior pastor of Calvary Chapel of Westmoreland,
- 0:12County of Greensburg, PA. Now here's Pastor Clark as he
- 0:16continues teaching through God's Word.
- 0:37You can't do it by the energy of your human ability and your
- 0:40flesh. It's through the power of God's
- 0:42Spirit. And if God's Spirit lives in US,
- 0:44he's the one that enables us to live the Christian life.
- 0:48Amen. It's God's Spirit.
- 0:50And that's good news because you can't fake it.
- 0:52And if you've been faking it, get the pressure off yourself
- 0:54and just finally say, God, I can't do this.
- 0:57I need you to be my Savior. I need Your Holy Spirit to live
- 1:01in me to enable me to keep these commandments that I continually
- 1:05have a tendency to break. Picks your little kid helping
- 1:09his dad mow the lawn. Sure, he's walking behind the
- 1:12mower with his hands on the handlebars and the grass is
- 1:15getting cut, but his dad is the one who's actually pushing the
- 1:18mower and doing the work. In today's message, Pastor Clark
- 1:22teaches you that you can't follow Christ in your own
- 1:25strength, but it's the Spirit of God within you who empowers you.
- 1:31The Christian life cannot be lived in the flesh, but you must
- 1:33walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 1:36Now here's Pastor Clark in Revelation Chapter 16 with
- 1:40today's edition of Living Waters of Grace.
- 1:44We're all blind until Christ comes into our life.
- 1:47Christ is the one that gives us true vision.
- 1:49He's the one that gives us the ability to see into the
- 1:53spiritual dimension. And when our eyes are anointed
- 1:56by the Spirit of God and we're able to see things for the first
- 1:59time, all of a sudden we know our lives have changed.
- 2:03You remember the guy in the gospel, they're asking him what
- 2:06happened to him when he met Jesus and he didn't know a lot
- 2:08about the Bible and he didn't know much about theology or
- 2:11doctrine. He said, hey, this is all I can
- 2:12tell you. This is all I know.
- 2:14I was blind and now I see. And so for us here today that
- 2:19have had that encounter, we can say Amen to that.
- 2:23And we see at that time also the love that we're to have for
- 2:26Jesus Christ. If He's truly awakened us and
- 2:30caused us to be able to see what he sees and what he ordained and
- 2:36what He knows, then we have this hatred in our lives for sin.
- 2:41God hates sin, and He hates it so much that He put his Son on
- 2:44the cross and He allowed him to be crucified on behalf of all of
- 2:50us. That's how much He loves us.
- 2:53And so we should love him because of what he's done for
- 2:56us. A matter of fact, the Bible says
- 2:58we love him because he first loved us.
- 3:01And we need to love what God loves and we need to hate what
- 3:04God hates. And so that's why he gives the
- 3:06admonition to the church in Laodicea.
- 3:09Be zealous therefore, and repent.
- 3:13Be zealous, therefore, and repent.
- 3:15There isn't a week that goes by in this church that the subject
- 3:18of repentance isn't spoken about him and brought up.
- 3:21Why? Because we need to be zealous
- 3:22and repent. We are part of this Laodicean
- 3:26movement in these last days, and we're doing everything we can by
- 3:29the grace and the power of God to be less likely to be numbered
- 3:35with that church. We want to be like the church in
- 3:36Philadelphia that had still a little faith and was faithful
- 3:40and remain faithful to the end. But we need to be zealous.
- 3:44And to be zealous means to be fired up.
- 3:46It means not emotionally stirring and jumping around like
- 3:49a fanatic, but having a tenacity in our hearts and our lives that
- 3:53we are seeing. Serious about the gospel.
- 3:56We're serious about holiness. We're serious about repentance.
- 3:59We're serious about living the way the Bible tells us that
- 4:02we're to live. And so as a result, when things
- 4:05come up in our lives that are inappropriate, we don't mess
- 4:08around with it. We repent of it.
- 4:10We ask the Lord for his mercy. We ask him to cleanse us and to
- 4:13forgive us from our unrighteousness.
- 4:16And when we repent, as I said last week, we stop going this
- 4:19way and we start going God's way.
- 4:22And every time we're tempted to move back a little bit or we we
- 4:25struggle or we stumble, we, we, we don't stay there.
- 4:28We just keep getting up by the grace of God in his mercy, and
- 4:31we just keep walking toward him. In continual metanoia, which is
- 4:36an active verb tense, which means to continually live in
- 4:39repentance, moment by moment by moment by moment by moment.
- 4:43Someone might say, well, is there a time when I don't have
- 4:45to repent? Yeah, when you're in heaven.
- 4:48But until that time, you repent continually.
- 4:52And it's a wonderful thing to have that blessing to be able to
- 4:56recognize and acknowledge our wrongdoings in turn from them,
- 5:00because God will cleanse us and strengthen us and restore us to
- 5:04to fellowship with him. This is something that Jesus
- 5:07says in John 14 verse 15. If you love me, keep my
- 5:15commandments. If you love me, keep my
- 5:17commandments. So the adverse would be, if you
- 5:22don't love me, you won't keep my commandments.
- 5:24So that's a a heart check for all of us.
- 5:26You just say to yourself today, do I really love God?
- 5:30If I do, it should be reflected in me keeping his word.
- 5:34If I'm not keeping his word, I don't love God.
- 5:37Who am I trying to kid? I certainly can't kid him.
- 5:40That's how he tests me. If you love me, Clark, you'll do
- 5:44what I tell you to do. You'll you'll follow my word,
- 5:46you'll follow my ways. Another translation says if you
- 5:49love me, you will keep my commandments.
- 5:52It isn't a like this question he's asking will you love me
- 5:56keep my commandments? It's an imperative statement
- 5:59that if you love me, you will keep my commandments.
- 6:04He says in first John chapter 5 verse 2.
- 6:06By this we know and the importance of being short of
- 6:10your salvation, not being nervous about well boy, I hope
- 6:13I'm saved. I think I'm saved.
- 6:16You can know that you're saved if this life reflects what he
- 6:21says is true in this first John chapter 5 verse 2.
- 6:25By this we know that we love the children of God.
- 6:28By this we know you could say it this way.
- 6:30We know we're part of the family or we're in the family of God
- 6:34when we love God and keep his commandments.
- 6:37Now, we're a body here today. And if some of us are here today
- 6:40not loving our brothers and sisters here today, which is the
- 6:43first Test of being a true Christian, and we aren't loving
- 6:47God and keeping his commandments, then we don't
- 6:50know. We're uncertain, we're unsure.
- 6:53And some of us here today might be in a place in our life where
- 6:56we're wondering, are we really Christians?
- 6:58Well, you can test yourself. You love the brothers and
- 7:01sisters. Do you love God or you keeping
- 7:03His word? If you are by His grace and by
- 7:06the work of His Holy Spirit in you, you know that you're in His
- 7:10family. You know that you belong to Him.
- 7:12But if you're not doing that, you're not living that way, be
- 7:16concerned, be nervous, be paranoid, be uptight, because
- 7:23your life is weighing in the balance of heaven and hell, and
- 7:27you need to allow the Lord to transform your life.
- 7:30And this is something none of us can do ourselves.
- 7:31We need the work of God's grace and his Holy Spirit to transform
- 7:35us. We can't this well, I'm going to
- 7:38do better this week and I'm going to promise God I'll do
- 7:40this and I'll, you know, you can't do it by the energy of
- 7:43your human ability and your flesh.
- 7:46It's through the power of God's Spirit.
- 7:47And if God's Spirit lives in US, he's the one that enables us to
- 7:51live of the Christian life. Amen.
- 7:53It's God's Spirit. And that's good news because you
- 7:56can't fake it. And if you've been faking it,
- 7:58get the pressure off yourself and just finally say, God, I
- 8:00can't do this. I need you to be my savior.
- 8:04I need your Holy Spirit to live in me to enable me to keep these
- 8:08commandments that I continually have a tendency to break.
- 8:12For this in verse three of first John 5 is the love of God that
- 8:18we keep his commandments and his commandments are not burden
- 8:22burdensome. They're what enables us to
- 8:26overcome sin. They live in victory as
- 8:29Christians. They have an overcoming life.
- 8:32It's the work of God's Spirit in us.
- 8:34So you look at the commandments of God.
- 8:36There might have been a time that you looked at in this way.
- 8:38I know I did man those 10 commandments.
- 8:40That's just part of it, you know, and, and I, I break them
- 8:43all, you know, and I, what am I going to do?
- 8:46These are impossible. Did you ever look at those
- 8:48things and be honest with yourself and say these are
- 8:51impossible to follow? Even on your best day, you're
- 8:54not going to get 10 out of 10. You're going to break some of
- 8:58them. Even you and me as Christians,
- 9:01we break them. We break his commandments every
- 9:03day. If we don't have him above every
- 9:07other God, we're committing idolatry.
- 9:11And how often do we allow the things of this world to get in
- 9:14the way of our relationship with God and we've become idolaters.
- 9:19We have to be serious and say, Lord, work on my heart by the
- 9:23power of your spirit that I will not sin against you.
- 9:26You're worried, Have I hid in my heart that I will not sin
- 9:29against you? And it's awesome when the Holy
- 9:31Spirit works in our lives because we find ourselves like
- 9:35sort of floating in the sense of that we're overcoming things
- 9:38that in the past we never were able to overcome before.
- 9:41And and you might have a life besetting sin.
- 9:43I know Christians that still struggle with life besetting
- 9:46sins. The book of Hebrews say says we
- 9:48all have them. A sin is so easily besets us,
- 9:52but that doesn't mean just because it's a weakness that God
- 9:55isn't able to cause us to overcome that sin if we follow
- 9:58Him and obey His Word. So we ask for His mercy and His
- 10:02help, and God is the one who's able, as it says in Jude, to
- 10:05keep us from falling and present us faultless before His glory
- 10:10with exceeding joy. It tells us in verse 15 of
- 10:14Revelation 16 that Jesus is going to come as a thief.
- 10:19A sudden surprising event. It's unexpected.
- 10:22It's an unannounced appearance. Many years ago, when Cindy and I
- 10:25were first married, we didn't have two cents to rub together,
- 10:28but we had paychecks from Spencer gifts that that week.
- 10:31And so we were so tired and it worked so hard.
- 10:35We were in this like motel room in the winter, they run out and,
- 10:40you know, you're right on the beach.
- 10:41And, and so we, we loved it and we, that's all we had.
- 10:45We they had, it was furnished and all we have is like a couple
- 10:48duffel bags with some clothes in.
- 10:50And we had money that week to actually buy some groceries, you
- 10:53know, so we go to bed and we're tired.
- 10:57Had one of those Polaroid instant cameras.
- 10:59Remember those old cameras? You take the picture, you put
- 11:01the film in and then you peel it back and the picture comes
- 11:04alive. And, you know, it was like, wow,
- 11:06this is, I think it was one of the first things we got after we
- 11:08got married. But, but anyway, we're asleep
- 11:10and we're tired. And for some reason that night,
- 11:13I, I, I don't remember putting the chain on the door.
- 11:16It was weird. I just turned the lock on the
- 11:17door. So we're sound asleep.
- 11:19All this sudden in the room, I felt God woke me up.
- 11:23The Holy Spirit woke me up and I felt this darkness in the room
- 11:27and, and I and I opened my eyes and I sat up and I saw this guy
- 11:30Crouch down the bottom of my bed.
- 11:32It freaked me out. I mean, just having someone in
- 11:34your room that you weren't expecting to be there, an
- 11:37unannounced guest and someone is visiting, you know, and you
- 11:41weren't inviting them. And our hearts are pounding.
- 11:43And all I know is that I started getting up.
- 11:45I yelled something. I just started getting up.
- 11:47Guy could have had a knife and killed me and raped my wife or
- 11:51whatever, and it could have been horrible.
- 11:53But by the grace of God, that guy took off and I went outside
- 11:57to see where which way he went and he was completely gone.
- 12:00And I'll tell you, that night was so difficult to go back to
- 12:04sleep because every time we fell back to sleep, we'd wake up,
- 12:07we'd be stirred thinking he's here again, he's here again,
- 12:11he's in the room, he's here. And that's sort of how we have
- 12:14to think about the presence of God.
- 12:16He's here, He's here again, He's in this room, He's with us, He's
- 12:20watching us, He sees us. We have time, guys, to deal with
- 12:24our hearts. We have time to have our lives
- 12:26change. We have time to forsake sin.
- 12:30He's going to come as a thief in the night.
- 12:32Sudden, surprising, unexpected. And so this is endorsement by
- 12:39God's word that you would keep your heart clean, that you would
- 12:44keep your garments clean through holiness and repentance.
- 12:49You would be living for God and not living for sin.
- 12:53And when he comes back, we wouldn't be ashamed at what he
- 12:58might find us living for, right? That he would come back and we
- 13:02could smile and say, man, I'm glad you came today because the
- 13:07day's a good day with you, Lord, I'm doing exactly what I'm
- 13:10supposed to be doing. I'm in the place that I'm
- 13:13supposed to be. I'm I had a good devotional day
- 13:17and I had a, a day of maybe I shared my faith or I honored my
- 13:21boss or I love my wife or I love my kids the way the Bible
- 13:24teaches me, or I'm, I'm seeking the things which are above and
- 13:27not the things which are below. And, and, and how awesome will
- 13:31it be when the Lord comes for us in the rapture and for those he
- 13:36comes forth the second coming that have gotten saved in that
- 13:39tribulation period, that he, he finds us doing the things that
- 13:43he told us to do versus finding us doing things that we
- 13:48shouldn't be doing. I mean, if we're saved by God's
- 13:52grace, we're still going to be saved.
- 13:54But I want to be ready, don't you, that He, the Master, finds
- 13:58me doing as a Scripture, say what He told me to do.
- 14:03So just as the first coming of Christ involve many phases over
- 14:0733 year period of Christ's life, from the Annunciation to the
- 14:11ascension of Christ, the second coming of Christ encompasses
- 14:15phases that take place before, during, and beyond the
- 14:19seven-year tribulation. We covered phase one several
- 14:22times in the Book of Revelation and Thessalonians where Christ
- 14:26comes from the church at the rapture.
- 14:28First Thessalonians chapter 4, verse 13 and 18.
- 14:31You can review that and look at that again later.
- 14:35Phase two of this movement of God in these last days was when
- 14:39when Christ comes to judge the rebellious nations remaining on
- 14:43the earth during the Tribulation.
- 14:44And He does that through the seal judgment, through the trump
- 14:47trumpet judgments and the and the bold plagues from Revelation
- 14:50chapter 6 through Revelation chapter 18.
- 14:54Phase 3 is when Christ comes to destroy the Antichrist and his
- 14:58massive armies at Armageddon. And we'll get into that
- 15:01Revelation chapter 1911 and phase 4.
- 15:05The final phase is when Christ comes and establishes on earth
- 15:09the prophecies millennial Kingdom of God and we read about
- 15:12in Matthew 25 and Daniel chapter 2.
- 15:15So we see in verse 15 for all of those who are awaiting this
- 15:20event, whether those of us right now who are waiting for the
- 15:23rapture of the church or those who are living in the time of
- 15:26the tribulation to become Christians that will go through
- 15:29this battle of Armageddon at the end of the tribulation.
- 15:33Verse 16 through 18. And they gathered them together
- 15:37to the place called in Hebrew Armageddon.
- 15:39And the 7th Angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud
- 15:43voice came out of the temple of heaven from the throne saying it
- 15:46is done. And here we have described
- 15:49what's spoken about in the book of Joel chapter 3.
- 15:52The armies of the antichrists are ascending down to Armageddon
- 15:57and in the valley plain of Jordan and that this huge piece
- 16:02of real estate approximately 10 by 40 miles from northwest to
- 16:09southeast, the gateway to Jerusalem.
- 16:11This is where this battle will occur.
- 16:14And we know from Revelation chapter 14, verse 19, it talks
- 16:18about the great winepress of the wrath of God.
- 16:20This is where this is going to happen.
- 16:22This would be in the most cataclysmic battle in human
- 16:25history on the face of the earth 17 to 21.
- 16:30It speaks now about the 7th Angel pouring out this final
- 16:33bowl into the air and a loud voice came out of the temple of
- 16:37heaven from the throne room saying it is done.
- 16:40So this is the last major horrendous judgement that's
- 16:44coming out from the the throne of God prior to this great
- 16:48battle of Armageddon. He says it is done just like
- 16:51Jesus said. It is finished when he's on the
- 16:53cross. No more wrath of God to be
- 16:55poured out on those who come to Christ.
- 16:57The wrath of God is only to be poured out on those who reject
- 17:00Jesus Christ. And we see here the 7th bowl is
- 17:04concluding with these cataclysmic events here.
- 17:07It speaks about this in verse 18.
- 17:09Noises and thunderings and lightnings, and great earth
- 17:12earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not
- 17:15occurred since men were on the face of the earth.
- 17:17Now the great city was divided into 3 parts, and the cities of
- 17:20the nation fell, and great Babylon was remembered before
- 17:24God to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His
- 17:28wrath. Again speaking about this this
- 17:31judgement of God's wine press. Every island fled away, and the
- 17:34mountains were not found, and great hail from heaven fell upon
- 17:38men. Each hailstone about the weight
- 17:40of a talent approximately 90 pounds.
- 17:43Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since
- 17:46the plague was exceeding great. And so we see this gigantic
- 17:53hail, worldwide earthquakes, destruction of the Antichrist,
- 17:58his reign and his role. These lightnings and thunders
- 18:01that are spoken about in verse 18 remind us of what we read
- 18:05about in Exodus chapter 19 as Moses began to come down off the
- 18:09mountain and it says the people trembled because of the sound of
- 18:13the Thunder and the brightness of the lightning.
- 18:15People were aware this was not a normal weather pattern.
- 18:18This was the holiness of God shaking the foundations of the
- 18:22earth and this great earthquakes.
- 18:24All these great scientists in the face of the earth, they're
- 18:27bright, they're brilliant, they study, they know certain things.
- 18:30Unfortunately, many of them aren't understanding the signs
- 18:33of the times of the seasons that they don't believe that the
- 18:37Bible is real and they don't believe that Jesus Christ is
- 18:40God. And, and they got a lot of a lot
- 18:42of problems, but nonetheless, this is one thing that many of
- 18:45them agree on. There's this geologic fault line
- 18:48and it's amazing how far this thing extends.
- 18:51It extends through Palestine, Jordan Valley, down into Africa
- 18:56and through the California coast.
- 18:58I I pity people who are moving to California.
- 19:01I'm glad for people who are moving away from California.
- 19:04I'm just kidding. Randy's here going to
- 19:05California. Gary and Cather are moving from
- 19:07California. You need to talk to us brother
- 19:10about the prophecies that are coming up.
- 19:12But Calvary Chapel is all through Southern California and
- 19:14will be will be take will be taken out before these things
- 19:17are occurring. Praise God.
- 19:19But the move of God that will give way of what sinners have
- 19:23believed supported them all the all the people on their face of
- 19:27the earth right now. They they ignore God for the
- 19:29most part. They walk around the world like
- 19:31it's their own. They don't understand or
- 19:33acknowledge a creator. They could care less even if
- 19:36there was 1. They're not going to pay
- 19:37attention to them or listen to them.
- 19:39And they're standing on this ground saying this is stable.
- 19:41This I got control. I have, I have energy, I have
- 19:47wealth, I have materialism, I have great gain.
- 19:50I'm the master of my domain. I'm the king of my household and
- 19:55nothing's going to change that. I'm in charge when this
- 19:58earthquake begins to occur, the massive earthquake like the
- 20:01world has never known. And I haven't ever been through
- 20:03an earthquake. But people that have been, they
- 20:06tell you it's like a horror, that you don't want to go
- 20:09through it. It's extremely frightening.
- 20:12Your whole world begins to fall out from under you.
- 20:14Literally. Those who ignore this at this
- 20:18time will be the ones that will realize that they laughed at us
- 20:22because we have a crutch. They call our faith in Jesus
- 20:25Christ. You guys need it because you're
- 20:27weak. You need a crutch.
- 20:29They're going to wish they could find a crutch during that time
- 20:31of the earthquake because they'll be nothing that will be
- 20:33able to hold them up but the mercy of God.
- 20:37And it seems that the majority of people will still, as we read
- 20:40last week at the end of verse 11, they did not repent of their
- 20:45deeds. So this great city is divided,
- 20:48it says, into three parts, Babylon.
- 20:50Some people think Babylon's an ancient Rome, the revived Roman
- 20:54Empire. Some people think it's Baghdad.
- 20:58You know, it doesn't really matter where it is or what it
- 21:02is. It is a literal place.
- 21:03And it'll be revealed in the in the last days.
- 21:06But it's also symbolic of the corrupt world system led by the
- 21:10Antichrist. And this earthquake is going to
- 21:12split this city in three parts. And we'll get into that in more
- 21:16detail next week in chapter 17 and 18.
- 21:20In verse 20, it talks about these islands and mountains that
- 21:23are affected by this earthquake. Some people think that this will
- 21:27occur when Jesus comes back and lands literally on earth and his
- 21:31feet touch the Mount of Olives. And this the holiness of God
- 21:36touching this wicked world, that's when everything will
- 21:39begin to just break apart and his Messiah's triumphant
- 21:45millennial reign that will eventually be set up as we read
- 21:47in Psalm chapter 2, the weight of this stone, these hailstones
- 21:52coming out of heaven that says uses this word talent, which is
- 21:58parallel to the the weight measure 95 lbs.
- 22:01So you can imagine something 95 lbs coming down out of the
- 22:05heavens. The damage and the death it'll
- 22:07cause will be incalculable. I don't want to be there and I
- 22:12won't be there. And I pray if you're here today
- 22:13and you're still on the fence about your need of a Savior and
- 22:17salvation, you don't stick around for this.
- 22:20I really believe that these things are sooner than later
- 22:23just because of what's going on in the world.
- 22:25I mean, there's never it's, you know, people talk about the
- 22:27stars being lined up when when Christ comes back, it seems like
- 22:31everything is just falling into place.
- 22:34And the prophecies, it says in the last days people will be
- 22:38lovers of themselves rather than lovers of God.
- 22:41That's apparent everywhere. People will go to churches to
- 22:44have their ears tickled. You know, they want to have
- 22:46things that will tell them how the wonderful they are, make
- 22:48them feel good and know what they would perceive as
- 22:52negativity or, and no down or message.
- 22:55You know this make tell me how great I am and, and make me feel
- 22:58good and comfortable in my sin and what I want to do and, and
- 23:01don't bother me. Don't don't say anything that
- 23:04would cause me to be convicted or something.
- 23:07But God, God, you know, he is so patient and so merciful.
- 23:11It's a wonder he hasn't done this already to everybody.
- 23:16But in his mercy he has a body, a bride, a group of people, the
- 23:21elect that he loves and he cherishes.
- 23:23And and he's come to this world that has not received him and
- 23:28rejected him. And he came to his own and his
- 23:30own received him not. And yet he comes with love to
- 23:33save the world from their sin. And very few people and the
- 23:37populace from the beginning of time to the end of time come to
- 23:41him. It's it's a mystery.
- 23:43And so these people, when all this is happening, Can you
- 23:45imagine this weight of these hailstones coming down?
- 23:47There's no place to go, no place to run, no place to hide.
- 23:50And they're still cursing God. They're blaspheming him.
- 23:57Thanks for being with us today here on Living Waters of Grace.
- 24:01We're in the Book of Revelation, and we find it fascinating how
- 24:04influential and involved the angels are in this book.
- 24:09They bring about whatever it is that God has instructed them to
- 24:13do, but it's through their actions that much of the
- 24:17judgments come on the earth. The angels are in submission to
- 24:20God as their authority, but He utilizes them in unique ways
- 24:25throughout this book. Like angels have a specific
- 24:28purpose from God, you have a unique purpose and plan too.
- 24:32God wants to use you in your life as a testimony to others
- 24:36and to bring others who are currently lost into the fold of
- 24:39God. God would love more than
- 24:42anything for all who are willing to come to Him for salvation,
- 24:46but he wants it to be their choice, not a forced situation.
- 24:51This is the way God works, not forcing himself on anyone, but
- 24:55giving each person free will. If you're interested in learning
- 24:59about this choice that's free and that it's a gift, go to
