- 1:07In this series on peace, we are taking an in-depth look at unwavering,
- 1:12unstoppable faith in God,
- 1:14on living with no worries or doubts, possessing a faith that motivates and moves
- 1:19us, and a following faith that draws us closer to Him.
- 1:23Come join us in this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries as Kim continues
- 1:28this study on the peace of God.
- 1:31Hello, and thank you for joining us again in this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries.
- 1:35And I'm excited because we're spending time in the scriptures studying about his gift of peace.
- 1:43And if you would, please, I'd like for you to turn back to Philippians chapter
- 1:474, 6 and 7, which is going to be kind of our anchor verse for this series of
- 1:53lessons that we're doing on the peace of God.
- 1:56It says in Philippians 4, verses 6 through 7, Be careful for nothing,
- 2:02but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving,
- 2:07let your requests be made known unto God and the peace of God,
- 2:11which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
- 2:17I ask you this question. have you
- 2:20ever met someone whose peace
- 2:24was so odd and i say that because in any situation anyone else would have been
- 2:32going in through this person still seems to be calm and still seems to have
- 2:39no worries always seems to have it together.
- 2:45And it's just an odd, peculiar type of peace.
- 2:50If you have had the privilege of having an individual like that in your life,
- 2:56most likely one of two things have been the reason.
- 3:00One, they are living in denial and they have no clue about reality.
- 3:04Or two, they have the most fantastic grip on the reality of Jesus Christ of anyone you've ever met.
- 3:14I personally have had the privilege of having that individual in my life whose
- 3:20grip on Jesus Christ was so solid and so strong that no matter what life threw at them,
- 3:29no matter what horrendous thing they were dealing with, they could say, life is fabulous.
- 3:37And they could say, it is well with my soul. and they possessed a peace that
- 3:45passeth understanding.
- 3:47You see, it didn't make sense to me that my mother in a hospital bed,
- 3:53unable to get out, surely in her last days of life.
- 4:00Gripped with pain, could tell me at the end of the day, life is fabulous.
- 4:07Who could say to me, I love Jesus and Jesus loves me.
- 4:13Who could sing his praises when all sometimes I could think was, what are you doing, God?
- 4:22You see, my faith was all about wanting it done my way, which really isn't faith.
- 4:30My mommy's faith was all about having it his way and being completely content in his plan for her life.
- 4:39And there is no doubt in my mind and in my heart that her faith is.
- 4:45Kept her so close to God that even though the outward circumstances of her life
- 4:51that we would see and perceive as fearful or a problem,
- 4:57it was that faith and that relationship with Jesus Christ that kept my mother
- 5:03perfectly calm and blissfully happy.
- 5:07For you see, she had a peace that
- 5:10passed all understanding and she understood
- 5:14the concept of be careful
- 5:17for nothing the last several
- 5:20years of my mother's life were filled
- 5:23with pain and filled with sickness and
- 5:27as far as doctors were concerned uncertainty but
- 5:31my mother's life to her was never filled
- 5:34with uncertainty for she knew this fact to
- 5:37be absent from the body was to be present with the lord and
- 5:40just days before my mother passed away she said don't worry about me kim shed
- 5:45a few tears i'm worth it but don't stop living not even for just a moment for
- 5:51when i say goodbye world i say hello god and it just doesn't get any better than that.
- 6:00It was a faith that produced peace.
- 6:04The Bible tells us in Philippians chapter 4, verses 6 through 7,
- 6:08that we are to let our requests be made known unto God.
- 6:13But it starts out with, be careful for nothing.
- 6:16In other words, what he's saying is this, believe in me. Where have we heard that before?
- 6:22Where have you heard believe in me?
- 6:25You hear that in John chapter 14 and verse 1,
- 6:28when he said you believe in god believe also
- 6:31in me and in fusions 3 20 he says according to the power that worketh in us
- 6:37and that power is jesus christ and jesus christ had the power over life death
- 6:43and the grave and he says don't worry you believe in god believe also in me
- 6:48he says let not your heart be troubled.
- 6:52Neither let it be afraid, John chapter 14 and verse 27. How is it that we can do that?
- 6:59We come to God in prayer and we let a request be known to him.
- 7:05But we do it with thanksgiving and in praise, knowing that he is capable of
- 7:12supplying our every need.
- 7:14There is a difference in going to God in prayer and going to God to tell him
- 7:21what you think about things.
- 7:23When we go to God in prayer, we're going with a heart that has the attitude
- 7:28of praise and thanksgiving,
- 7:30who has committed to the fact that he is God and who has placed their faith in him.
- 7:38We can be on our knees and be
- 7:41blaspheming the holy god because we
- 7:44don't like the circumstances of our
- 7:46life that isn't faith faith is being
- 7:49content with whatever state you're in not worrying about what's going on around
- 7:54you but knowing that you've placed your faith in a god that cannot fail and
- 7:59the results of that is a peace that passes understanding and it keeps our hearts
- 8:04and minds It's our minds that start wondering,
- 8:08when we don't get them under subjection to the heart that's been bathed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 8:14Just as we talked about in the lesson preceding this one, now is the time for
- 8:19you to really take a look at your faith.
- 8:22Faith is what you have when things are bad.
- 8:26Faith is what you have when you're scared.
- 8:32For you see, faith is what is going to show when the pressure's on.
- 8:39And it'll either show that you don't have much, or it'll show that your tip's
- 8:43so far on the other side that this world can hardly see.
- 8:47Believing in God means accepting his will for your life.
- 8:53Believing in God means accepting his grace and his mercy to see you through,
- 8:59even if he doesn't remove it from you.
- 9:03Believing in God is accepting his healing when his healing doesn't come in the
- 9:08form that you prefer. However, believing in God is faith in action,
- 9:13and the results are peace.
- 9:17In the midst of the horrendous storm in my life that each of you are now getting
- 9:22to hear all about, because God teaches many lessons in the storms,
- 9:28because you can't help but learn when he's your umbrella and you're watching
- 9:33the rain drip all around you, yet you're not wet.
- 9:35In the midst of your storm when God was pouring his grace upon me and I struggled with receiving it.
- 9:47He never stopped being God. And I am so thankful that he does what is right all the time.
- 9:57And though I was praying for earthly healing, I prayed for healing and the answer came.
- 10:05Healing beyond my comprehension.
- 10:08But the dissonance wasn't in his ability to do what he needed to do.
- 10:14The dissonance between me and god wasn't in
- 10:17my thinking that he could do it the
- 10:21dissonance is i couldn't get him to do it my way and you can judge me if you
- 10:27wish but i submit to you that the struggles that you're having are struggles
- 10:32because you haven't given in to the will of god because in the will of god you
- 10:36don't struggle you have struggles but you don't struggle.
- 10:41You are just sheltered in the arms of God, following incomplete obedience.
- 10:48When there's dissonance and a struggle, it's because you're fighting the will of God.
- 10:54But I'd like for you, if you would please, to turn to 1 Samuel chapter 17 and verse 37.
- 10:59There is peace in knowing who god is and there is peace and being in the center
- 11:06of his will and first samuel chapter 17.
- 11:13And beginning in verse 37, it reads as this.
- 11:17David said, moreover, the Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion
- 11:21and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.
- 11:29And Saul said unto David, go and the Lord be with thee.
- 11:33You see, David is showing you right now the attitude of his heart.
- 11:38The giant is before him
- 11:41and he hasn't asked god to remove
- 11:45the giant what he has done is
- 11:48he's spoken to saul and he's told saul
- 11:51exactly who god is and saul
- 11:54armed david with his armor and he put a helmet of brass upon his head and also
- 11:59he armed him with a coat of mail and david girded his sword upon his armor and
- 12:03he assayed to go for he had not proved it and david said unto saul i cannot
- 12:07go with these for I have not proved them. And David put them off.
- 12:13David had no confidence in this manly armor, but continue with me.
- 12:20And he took off his staff in his hand and he chose him five smooth stones out of the brook.
- 12:25And he put them in a shepherd's bag, which he had even in a script.
- 12:29And his sling was in his hand and he drew near to
- 12:33the philistine david knew what
- 12:37to place his confidence in and he's
- 12:39not placing his confidence in himself at all and
- 12:43he certainly wasn't going to place his confidence in the things
- 12:46that the world did it had not proved to him to be right but he's constantly
- 12:50showing you his heart when he says the lord will deliver me just like he did
- 12:56before what he's done before he'll do again and he doesn't resist the path that god has placed him on.
- 13:05When the philistine looked about and saw david he disdained him
- 13:08for he was but a youth and ruddy and of
- 13:11a fair countenance and the philistine said unto david am i a dog that thou comest
- 13:17to me with staves and the philistines cursed david by his gods and the philistine
- 13:22said to david come to me and i will give thy flesh into the fowls of the air
- 13:26and the beast of the field then said david to the Philistine,
- 13:30thou comest to me with a sword and with a spear and with a shield.
- 13:37But I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of
- 13:42Israel, whom thou hast defied.
- 13:44You see, David is showing us that when the giants of our life come our way,
- 13:50our heart needs to believe in God.
- 13:53He showed us to put our confidence in God. He showed us how we could look back
- 13:58in our lives and see how God had brought us through.
- 14:01And then he says, you're coming at me with the world, but I come to you in the name of the Lord.
- 14:10See how that works in our lives. The world has put you in the midst of a horrible storm, maybe.
- 14:17Or maybe the problems of your life are yucky.
- 14:22And if you come at them with the armor of the world, it's no match for it. It'll take you down.
- 14:29But if you come in confidence of God and even allows you to look back and see
- 14:34so that you can regain that strength, refresh that spirit,
- 14:38fall all over again in love with Jesus Christ and see where he's brought you
- 14:42from and begin to just let that godly pride swell inside of you so that you really believe in God.
- 14:50Remember, believe in God. Believe also in me.
- 14:54Produces, let not your heart be troubled. Be careful for nothing,
- 14:59but with everything in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving,
- 15:03let your request be made known unto God, produces peace.
- 15:07David says, I'm not coming on my own. I'm coming in the name of God.
- 15:12Tells us in Ephesians 6 that when you've done all to just stand,
- 15:15and he tells us about the armor of God that we're to put on.
- 15:18You need to come with that battle in the name of God.
- 15:22Because remember, he said in John chapter 14 and verse 27,
- 15:26peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you not as
- 15:29the world give us give i unto you let not
- 15:32your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid the
- 15:35world didn't give it to you we can't take it away you come in
- 15:38my name you walk in my way because i'll never leave you nor forsake you i know
- 15:43the way because i am the way the truth and the life and no man cometh unto the
- 15:46father but by me you can do all things through christ which strengthens me i'll
- 15:51supply all of your needs according to my riches and glory listen i come in the name of the Lord.
- 15:58And he says, you tell Satan, get behind me and he has to flee.
- 16:02Because he said, resist the devil and he will flee from thee.
- 16:06David says, this day will the Lord deliver thee unto my hand. You see, he knew his God.
- 16:13He knew he was where God wanted him to be. And he knew what the results would be.
- 16:19And he didn't even have all the 66 books to read it.
- 16:22But you don't just have to read how God has come through your life.
- 16:27And you don't just have to look at your journals or look back in your life.
- 16:30You can look from Genesis to Revelations.
- 16:32What he's done for others, he'll do for you. He's no respecter of persons.
- 16:37And David says, this day will the Lord deliver me.
- 16:41That's a faith that cannot fail.
- 16:44Thou will smite thee and take that head from thee. And I will give the carcass
- 16:47of the host of the Philistines this day into the fowls of the air and to the
- 16:51wild beast of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
- 16:57David is doing everything he's doing to give glory to God. He doesn't plan on
- 17:03taking credit for defeating this giant.
- 17:05He's doing it all for the glory of God.
- 17:08He's in the will of God. He's so in love with God.
- 17:12He's so in tune with God that he realizes that all he is and all he'll ever
- 17:17be is by the glory and grace of God.
- 17:19And to God be the glory for the great things he's done.
- 17:22It's all about God and not about him.
- 17:25Maybe in this midst of the storm that you're in, you need to get your eyes off yourself.
- 17:30Get your eyes on Jesus Christ. Look at the greater good and see who can you
- 17:34show the grace and glory of God through, through this mess you're in.
- 17:38Who can you lead to Jesus Christ because of the storm and the valley you walk
- 17:42through, because the umbrella of his grace and his mercy has protected you all the way.
- 17:47Somebody needs to see it. Somebody needs to hear it.
- 17:50Some soul needs to come to Jesus Christ, and you can bring him there,
- 17:55because the Lord will deliver you.
- 17:58David says and all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not by sword or spear.
- 18:08The battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hands.
- 18:13The Lord doesn't need the world to deliver you.
- 18:17So you don't need to seek your deliverance in the world or worldly things,
- 18:23because the Bible is plain.
- 18:26Deliverance comes from God, and God will not even hear the prayers of those
- 18:31who have iniquity in their hearts.
- 18:33God doesn't go where sin is.
- 18:36God doesn't need the world so why are you seeking the world for your help psalmist
- 18:42david said come to god from whence cometh my help.
- 18:48Hebrews chapter 4, verses 14 through 16. Let's just read that.
- 18:53As we begin to close this lesson down, I want you to remember that he said,
- 18:56Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,
- 19:01with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.
- 19:04And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts
- 19:09and minds through Christ Jesus.
- 19:11There's a peace that passeth all understanding.
- 19:15And this peace is a peace that you need
- 19:18and it's a peace that we can have
- 19:22because he said thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on
- 19:28thee as we go to hebrews chapter 4 verses 14 through 16 this is what he says
- 19:35seeing then that we have a great high priest that is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God.
- 19:42Let us hold fast our profession, for we have not a high priest which cannot
- 19:47be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted
- 19:51like as we are, yet without sin.
- 19:53Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy
- 19:58and find grace to help in time of need.
- 20:02David knew where to go for his help, and he didn't go to the world.
- 20:06He said, the battle's not mine, it belongs to the Lord. We as individuals and
- 20:12children of Christ have that same opportunity to come to him.
- 20:17I implore you, look to Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith,
- 20:22and you'll have a peace that passeth all understanding and a joy unspeakable and full of glory.
- 20:29Our kind and most gracious, dear heavenly Father, Lord, we just ask that you
- 20:33would touch each of our hearts.
- 20:35Lord, we ask that you would just speak to us in ways like you've never spoken before.
- 20:40Lord, we pray that you would increase our faith and you would help us to look
- 20:43at where you've carried us.
- 20:46Beautiful poem of the footprints in the sand has spoken to our hearts.
- 20:50Let us see that in those times when there's one set of footprints, it's you carrying us.
- 20:55Let us see where you brought us from, where you brought us through.
- 20:58Help us to increase our faith as we believe to know who you are.
- 21:03Help us to get our head and our heart in the word of God that it could just envelop us.
- 21:08But most of all, dear Heavenly Father, may each of us, if we spent this time
- 21:12studying your word together, have grown in faith as we've seen who you are and what you'll do.
- 21:19Cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Deliver us from all of the sin which does easily beset us.
- 21:27And Lord, may we walk in the glory and grace that you've prepared for us to walk in.
- 21:33And all these things we ask in In thy most precious and holy name we pray.
- 21:37And all of God's people said, Amen.
