Two massive wildfires in Washoe County — the Bug Fire and the Stallion Fire — remain active, with containment at 94% and 95% respectively, but crews warn unburned “islands” of land still pose serious flare-up risks. The Bug Fire, ignited August 8th, has scorched nearly 94,000 acres across four counties, while the Stallion Fire, started a few days later, covers 40,700 acres. Both were human-caused, and despite high containment, firefighters are still battling to fully extinguish them as embers and heat threaten to reignite untouched patches.
