- 2:03the first step in building a new career path. Every year,
- 2:06we meet employees who started as seasonal hires and go
- 2:10on to become managers, trainers, or leaders across our buildings,
- 2:14and we love that people everywhere can make these jobs
- 2:17what they want them to be. Seasonal roles offer good pay,
- 2:21flexible schedules, and the chance to be part of a

- 2:59seen their pay go up an average of eighteen percent.
- 3:02Having built my own career from the frontline in environments
- 3:05where people invested in one another, I know the power
- 3:09of opening doors, and it's a privilege to see that
- 3:12play out here across our network. As we prepare for
- 3:15the busy holiday season, we look forward to welcoming two
- 3:19hundred and fifty thousand new teammates to our operations network. Together,
- 3:23we will continue building a workplace where today's opportunities can

- 11:03to eliminate unjust, unavoidable, and unnecessary barriers in health and healthcare.
- 11:09It fosters evidence based collaborations and investments that help people
- 11:14in underserved communities live connected, healthy lives. The next article
- 11:19from the Lane Report is titled Airheads unveils Decoy Boy,
- 11:24a robot child adults can use to trick or treat
- 11:27for themselves. Halloween isn't just for kids anymore. This year,
- 11:33Airheads is crashing the candy barrier with Decoy Boy, the
- 11:37world's first robotic tricker treating sidekick. Disguised as a costumed kid,
- 11:43Decoy Boy gives grown ups the perfect social cover to
- 11:47go door to door, score candy, and relive their favorite
- 11:50Halloween tradition without the awkwardness of trick or treating solo.
- 11:55For many adults, trick or treating was a highlight of
- 11:58their childhood, but then, at no fault of their own,
- 12:01they got older. A recent one Pulse survey showed that
- 12:05while virtually all adults loved trick or treating as kids,
- 12:09eighty seven percent of adults say it's weird to trick
- 12:12or treat alone. These cherished childhood memories, and this stat
- 12:16was all the motivation Airheads needed to launch a fully
- 12:20functional tricker treating robot in a wagon disguised as a
- 12:24costumed kid, designed to be pooled from house to house.
- 12:28Decoy Boy is programmed to say trick or treat, has
- 12:31a persuasion dial for those looking to get more than
- 12:34one piece, and a tantrum mode for serious airhead fans.
- 12:39Halloween should be fun for everyone, no matter your age
- 12:43or background, said Chris Borges, brand director non Chocolate Portfolio
- 12:48at Perfetti Van Mel, the maker of Airheads. So we
- 12:52built the decoy Boy to give anyone a way to
- 12:55embrace the spooky season and stock up on airheads with
- 12:59a little ex flare and fun. The decoy boy is
- 13:03built to resemble a seven to eight year old child
- 13:06and comes in three classic Halloween costumes, a Ghost, a Wizard,
- 13:11or Frankenstein. Each unit is battery powered, rides in a
- 13:15rugged all terrain wagon and can carry up to fifteen
- 13:18pounds of airheads. The robot speaks pre recorded Halloween phrases
- 13:23and adds just the right amount of eerie charm to
- 13:26pass for the real thing, especially from the front porch.
- 13:30Airheads is a brand long loved by people of all
- 13:33ages for its chewy texture, tangy fruit flavors, and bright colors.
- 13:38Invented in Erlinger, Kentucky, Airheads are available in original bar
- 13:43form as well as chewy and intense bite sized pieces
- 13:47called airhead bites. For a sweetly sour candy that packs
- 13:51a punch, Airheads Extremes, belts, and bites are available. Airheads
- 13:56are perfect for a quick treat, social gatherings, and for
- 14:00sharing with others. Purfetti van Mel PVM is a privately
- 14:05owned company that manufactures and distributes confectionery and chewing gum

- 14:18customers around the world with its innovative, diverse, and most
- 14:21loved products. The company boasts a diverse portfolio of iconic,
- 14:26local and internationally recognized brands cherished by generations such as Mentos, Chupa, Choops, ALPMB,
- 14:37Airheads Center, Frutella, Big Babbel, Vivident, Golia, Vigorsol, Smint and Frisk.
- 14:49In addition Trident, Hollywood, Denteen, Stimatrol, V six and Bubblicious
- 14:56in the United States, Canada and Europe. In Perfeti Van
- 15:01Mell Group reported net sales above four billion dollars US.
- 15:06Operations are based in Erlinger, Kentucky, with factories in Erlinger
- 15:09and Rockford, Illinois. Our next article comes from the October eighth,
- 15:14twenty twenty five edition of Business Lexington and is titled
- 15:18UK Beam Institute Test Hydrogen Energy and Bourbon Distilling. The
- 15:24University of Kentucky's James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits
- 15:29JBBI has completed a key phase in a project demonstrating
- 15:34hydrogen as a potential domestic energy source for the distilled
- 15:38spirits industry. The initiative titled Kentucky Distilled Spirits Industrial Decarbonization
- 15:45and Sustainability, launched in November of twenty twenty four and
- 15:50is funded by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet. Led
- 15:54by JBBI Director Seth de Bolt, the research team evaluated
- 15:59the distiller process using a blend of hydrogen and natural
- 16:03gases to fuel the boilers that generate steam for production.
- 16:08De Bolt collaborated with researchers from UK Center for Applied
- 16:12Energy Research, a leader in energy innovation. We are pleased
- 16:17with the early results from this research collaboration, said Rodney Andrews,
- 16:22the Center for Applied Energy Research director. Co Firing natural
- 16:27gas and hydrogen in bourbon production is a novel concept
- 16:31and we are thrilled to see some promising data coming
- 16:34from the project. We look forward to seeing what happens next.
- 16:39Over three months, De Bolt and JBBI head distiller Glenna
- 16:43Joyce Welscow monitored the production process, ultimately filling twenty barrels,
- 16:49ten using hydrogen natural gas blend and ten using only
- 16:54natural gas. The barrels are now aging in the independent
- 16:58Stave company Boswell Family Barrel Warehouse, where they will mature
- 17:02over the next four years. Hydrogen as a form of
- 17:06energy in the US could be great for distilleries and
- 17:10the applied food industry. De Bolt, said Kenya Stump, executive
- 17:15director at the EZ Office of Energy Policy, thought to
- 17:19connect the two in a large scale demonstration. Our distillery
- 17:23at the Institute provides the unique capability to conduct this
- 17:27test while tracking key information on production quality and safety.
- 17:32The project also highlighted the safety and compliance protocols required
- 17:37when introducing new energy sources into production. Early data suggests
- 17:42that hydrogen used did not negatively affect the spirit's quality,
- 17:46a finding that will be confirmed once the whiskey has
- 17:48aged and can be evaluated for flavor. Today's news is
- 17:53another great step for Team Kentucky's All of the Above
- 17:56energy strategy, which aims to unleash our economy while meeting
- 18:01the energy needs of tomorrow, said EEC Secretary Rebecca Goodman.
- 18:06We are excited to partner with UK Center for Applied
- 18:10Energy Research and the Beam Institute to boost the use
- 18:13of hydrogen energy and support Kentucky's signature industry in achieving
- 18:18its energy goals. The successful blending of hydrogen in the
- 18:22distilling process is a great example of innovation and teamwork
- 18:26and action. If hydrogen proves to be a viable energy
- 18:30source for distilleries without altering product quality, researchers say the
- 18:35project could position Kentucky at the forefront of industrial decarbonization
- 18:40in the spirit sector. Our next article comes from the
- 18:43October fourteenth to twenty twenty five edition of Here Lexington
- 18:47and is titled Governor Basheer's European Trade Mission for Investment.
- 18:53Kentucky Governor Andy Basheer is currently on a trade focused
- 18:57trip in Europe, with notable visits planned in the United Kingdom, France,
- 19:01and Ireland. This initiative aims to foster investment opportunities for
- 19:06the state as it faces challenges from recent tariff policies
- 19:10that have impacted crucial industries such as bourbon manufacturing. Prior
- 19:16to his departure, Bashir shared a photo on Facebook after
- 19:19arriving in London, signaling the beginning of a week that
- 19:23involves meetings with business leaders and trade officials. His office
- 19:27highlighted that Kentucky ranks fifth nationally in direct foreign investment,
- 19:32underlining the significance of this mission. The backdrop of this
- 19:36trade mission includes ongoing challenges faced by Kentucky's economy, particularly
- 19:42in the Bourbon and manufacturing sectors, due to tariffs imposed
- 19:46by the previous federal administration. Governor Basheer has been vocal
- 19:50about these tariff policies, criticizing them as unpredictable and problematic.
- 19:56He stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue with international trade
- 20:00partners to support Kentucky's products in export markets amid these challenges. Currently,
- 20:07Kentucky hosts over five hundred thirty internationally owned facilities which
- 20:12provide jobs to more than one hundred fifteen thousand Kentuckians.
- 20:17Out of these facilities, two hundred and thirty eight belonged
- 20:19to European companies, emphasizing the critical nature of foreign investment
- 20:24in the local economy. Basheer's administration believes that focusing on
- 20:29vital export markets is essential for sustaining and enhancing Kentucky's
- 20:33economic growth. The Governor's trade mission comes after previous international engagements,
- 20:39most notably his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland,
- 20:44earlier this year. This visit receives scrutiny regarding the costs
- 20:48associated with international travel. Critics, particularly from the Republican Party,
- 20:54have pointed to the fiscal implications of the state budget
- 20:57allocated for such activities. During his time at the World
- 21:01Economic Forum, Basher actively promoted Kentucky while interacting with global
- 21:07leaders and discussing the impacts of tariffs on consumer prices.
- 21:11He also touched on the transitions toward electric vehicles and
- 21:15sustainable business practices, essential factors he perceives for Kentucky's future. Furthermore,
- 21:22he presented differing perspectives on policies concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion,
- 21:28along with considerations surrounding capitalism. Basher's overarching message throughout these
- 21:35international interactions combines a pragmatic approach to governance with a
- 21:40steadfast focus on fostering economic growth in Kentucky. His administration
- 21:45aims to navigate the complexities posed by tariffs and advocate
- 21:50for stronger ties with international partners to ensure the resilience
- 21:54of the state's key industries. The next article comes from
- 21:58the October thirteenth, twenty twenty five edition of Louisville Business
- 22:02First and is titled High Wire Brewing Closing Louisville tap Room,

- 23:33Thank you, Louisville, You'll always have a place in our story.
- 23:37High Wire opened the tap room in early twenty twenty one.
- 23:40As we reported at the time, the tap room is
- 23:43located in a five five hundred square foot space in
- 23:46the Back Store Apartments development in Phoenix Hill. It offers
- 23:50twenty four taps, twenty of which are taken up by
- 23:53high Wire's own brews. Prior to the opening of the
- 23:57tap room, high Wire had distributed its beer in the
- 24:00Louisville area for four years, and fans can still buy
- 24:03it in retail in the area today. High Wire was
- 24:07founded in twenty thirteen and is the fifth largest craft
- 24:10brewery in North Carolina, with twenty two thousand, five hundred
- 24:14fifteen barrels produced in twenty twenty four. By comparison, Goodwood Brewing,
- 24:20Louisville's largest craft brewery, made six thousand, five hundred barrels
- 24:24last year. In other high Wire news, our sister publication,
- 24:29The Cincinnati Business Courier, reported that the brewery closed its
- 24:32suburban location. There after it was acquired by Braxton Brewing Company.
- 24:38The next article from Louisville Business First is titled Ford
- 24:42Halt's suv production at Kentucky plant due to supplier fire,
- 24:47written by Zach Owens. Ford Motor Company is temporarily pausing
- 24:52production of several large suv models at its Kentucky truck
- 24:56plant following a fire at one of its key suppliers.
- 25:00The Dearborn, Michigan based automaker will halp production of the
- 25:04Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator at its Louisville facility this week,
- 25:09according to reporting by The Wall Street Journal, A United
- 25:13Auto Worker's official told employees about the decision late last week.
- 25:18The pause, expected to last about a week, stems from
- 25:22a fire last month at a Novelist plant, which supplies
- 25:26about forty percent of the aluminum sheet used in the
- 25:29US auto industry. Ford is considered one of Novelist's largest customers.
- 25:35The plant is not expected to resume operations until sometime
- 25:38next year, while the Kentucky truck plant will continue producing
- 25:43F series super duty pickups. WDRB News reports that a
- 25:49UAW representative said the facility may run short on aluminum
- 25:54over the next few shifts. Ford's Louisville Assembly plant, which
- 25:58produces the Escape and Lincoln Corsair, also briefly halted production,
- 26:04but resumed this week with one of its two shifts.
- 26:08The disruption comes less than two weeks after Ford completed
- 26:12a forty one point two eight million dollar land acquisition
- 26:16adjacent to the Kentucky Truck Plant as part of its
- 26:20long term investment strategy in the region. That deal added
- 26:24sixty five point two acres at three three zero six
- 26:29Collins Lane to the company's Springhurst campus footprint. Ford has
- 26:34pledged to invest nearly two billion dollars in its two
- 26:37Louisville plants, seven hundred and fifty million dollars at Kentucky
- 26:42Truck Plant and one point two billion dollars at Louisville
- 26:46Assembly Plant under a twenty twenty three labour deal with
- 26:50the United Auto Workers. Those investments are expected to support
- 26:54production of both gas and hybrid models of the Expedition
- 26:58and Navigator. Earlier this year, Ford also announced a five
- 27:04billion dollar electric vehicle initiative centered in Louisville, including a
- 27:09new mid size EV truck that will be built at
- 27:13the Louisville Assembly plant starting in twenty twenty six. The project,
- 27:18powered by Ford's new Universal EV platform, will convert existing
- 27:24escape production lines to EV manufacturing and add fifty two
- 27:29thousand square feet to the facility. The company has said
- 27:33the initiative will secure roughly four thousand jobs between Kentucky
- 27:37and Michigan. Ford employees about twelve thousand, five hundred workers
- 27:43across its two Louisville facilities, making it one of the
- 27:47region's largest employers and a critical piece of Kentucky's automotive
- 27:52manufacturing sector, which supports nearly ninety five thousand jobs statewide.
