- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one five of Cards
- 0:20Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike Cooler from Baseball Prospectus, joined as
- 0:24Speaker 1: always by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer from Rasball.
- 0:27Speaker 1: How you doing tonight, buddy?
- 0:28Speaker 2: I am great. I'm feeling like Raffie Never's trying to
- 0:30Speaker 2: be take out of the game. You can't take me out.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I am ready to go, ready to run. So I'm
- 0:34Speaker 2: excited for tonight's pod.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Okay, well, yeah, came in hot. I'm glad that we
- 0:39Speaker 1: did our Giants Roundup pod a few weeks ago because
- 0:42Speaker 1: it was nice to bury them back then and we
- 0:44Speaker 1: haven't had to talk about any of the latest controversies
- 0:48Speaker 1: that we can just write them off because that team
- 0:50Speaker 1: is a sunken chip. It is fascinating to watch because
- 0:53Speaker 1: they find different ways to fall apart every night. But yeah,
- 0:57Speaker 1: it is a mess in San Francisco.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Bus or pose, you got your work cut out for you.
- 1:02Speaker 1: If he makes it through, that's this season a time.
- 1:05Speaker 1: This week.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yes, he's gonna trade the whole thing except for his
- 1:08Speaker 2: only trade jip, which is logan web.
- 1:09Speaker 1: So yeah, well, I mean with those trade rumors flying around,
- 1:13Speaker 1: we figured it'd probably be a good time to check
- 1:14Speaker 1: in on the trade market for those selling in dynasty
- 1:17Speaker 1: keeper leagues, you know, checking on some prospects that might
- 1:21Speaker 1: be a little bit below the surface in terms of,
- 1:25Speaker 1: you know, trade chips that you can I think what
- 1:28Speaker 1: I like about these guys that we're going to talk
- 1:29Speaker 1: about in our main segment is a lot of times
- 1:31Speaker 1: they're going to be in sillery pieces to those larger
- 1:33Speaker 1: deals that you're going to pull off, and those are
- 1:36Speaker 1: important for reshaping your dynasty Keeper leagues. So that's what
- 1:39Speaker 1: we're going to cover in our main section. But before
- 1:42Speaker 1: we get into that, how about we get to some
- 1:44Speaker 1: news and notes, because we've got quite a few. Last week,
- 1:47Speaker 1: it was a little bit slower, and even when I
- 1:49Speaker 1: was starting to draft this rundown on Monday. We're speaking
- 1:52Speaker 1: on June twenty fourth, the Wednesday night, But when I
- 1:56Speaker 1: was drafting this rundown on Monday, it was maybe half
- 2:00Speaker 1: length that it is right now. I think that we
- 2:02Speaker 1: had quite a few injuries come in for the first
- 2:04Speaker 1: half of this week, so we're gonna get right into it.
- 2:06Speaker 1: We're gonna start in Kansas City because we got a
- 2:08Speaker 1: two fer there where their two best players are down
- 2:11Speaker 1: and one is Bobby Wit Junior, who is another first
- 2:15Speaker 1: round pick down for the count. He hasn't played in
- 2:19Speaker 1: I believe five games. Let me tell it up on
- 2:22Speaker 1: roster resource. It is five games after spraining his MCL
- 2:27Speaker 1: in Thursday's game, and that is in his right leg,
- 2:31Speaker 1: so he's just been chilling. They have not made any
- 2:35Speaker 1: moves in terms of an IL stint for Bobby wit Junior,
- 2:38Speaker 1: but they probably can't make it too much longer there
- 2:41Speaker 1: in Kansas City. They've got to fill up a DH
- 2:46Speaker 1: spot every day with Carter Jensen ors Salvador Perez, so
- 2:49Speaker 1: they can't have Bobby wit Junior DH. And honestly, he's
- 2:53Speaker 1: dealing with a Grade one strain of his right MCL,
- 2:56Speaker 1: so it's pretty significant here. This is a pretty big blow.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Especially it reminds me a lot of last year with
- 3:04Speaker 1: Elie de la Cruz getting that hamstring strain. Was a
- 3:07Speaker 1: first round pick, but was also probably your main source
- 3:10Speaker 1: of steals and fantasy. I think we're gonna run into
- 3:13Speaker 1: the same situation with Bobby Wait Junior here down the stretch.
- 3:16Speaker 2: What say you yeah? I think you're right. I mean,
- 3:19Speaker 2: with this point's already stolen. Twenty eight bases this season's
- 3:23Speaker 2: and only got caught four times, so he's basically was
- 3:26Speaker 2: on pace to have one of his best seasons from
- 3:28Speaker 2: a running perspective. Power was kind of right in line
- 3:31Speaker 2: with what last year was, and so he was on
- 3:33Speaker 2: pace again to have another just standout season. I don't
- 3:37Speaker 2: think it was gonna be a thirty thirty, but I
- 3:39Speaker 2: think it was going to easily be a twenty forty
- 3:41Speaker 2: type of season. And so I have him like to
- 3:45Speaker 2: top of my my hitter rankings right now because you
- 3:49Speaker 2: just can't match what he's doing outside of a few guys,
- 3:53Speaker 2: and you know one of them is hurt. So yeah,
- 3:56Speaker 2: this you have to wait, You have to see. But
- 3:58Speaker 2: I think the rest of the season that the speed
- 4:02Speaker 2: is gonna be the question mark. Everything I'm reading says
- 4:06Speaker 2: that they're not concerned with surgery or anything like that.
- 4:08Speaker 2: It's just you know, short term. I kind of see
- 4:11Speaker 2: the same thing with him not putting in the iel immediately.
- 4:14Speaker 2: So I'm hopeful he comes back. Does he run or not.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I don't think he's the kind of guy that can
- 4:19Speaker 2: really just like hold back. But to your point, that
- 4:22Speaker 2: is that Akunya comp so it could be a little concerning,
- 4:26Speaker 2: but it's always been healthy, always been a strong guy.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I don't see this as a big long term concern,
- 4:33Speaker 2: more short, short term. I want to see what happens
- 4:35Speaker 2: when he gets back and on the base paths, and
- 4:36Speaker 2: if he's running right out the gate, I'm fine. I'm
- 4:39Speaker 2: chalking this up to just a little tweak and let's
- 4:41Speaker 2: move on.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's let's hope that's what it is. Because
- 4:45Speaker 1: this is the sort of thing that could cascade as well,
- 4:47Speaker 1: because it could become a worse strain as he plays
- 4:50Speaker 1: through it. It could really mess with his kinetic chain
- 4:54Speaker 1: as well and create other issues. So I really do
- 4:57Speaker 1: hope that they do the right thing here and just
- 5:00Speaker 1: put him on the ten day aisle.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Take it easy.
- 5:02Speaker 1: They're the Kansas City Royals there in last place in
- 5:05Speaker 1: the ALE Central. Sure it's only seven and a half games,
- 5:08Speaker 1: but even if this team makes it into the playoffs,
- 5:10Speaker 1: they are going to get obliterated. Just like this is
- 5:12Speaker 1: your franchise, Superstar Kansas City, Like, let's do the correct
- 5:16Speaker 1: thing for you and for us fantasy players, let's stay
- 5:20Speaker 1: in Kansas City because their second best bat. Well, I
- 5:22Speaker 1: mean this is arguable now that Jack Caglion is just
- 5:25Speaker 1: like shot to the moon over the last week. But
- 5:28Speaker 1: MIKEL Garcia, third baseman going on the al again here
- 5:32Speaker 1: this time it's with a handstrain, and this time it's
- 5:34Speaker 1: also one of the most annoying things that can happen
- 5:37Speaker 1: in fantasy, where we didn't know what his status was
- 5:40Speaker 1: going into the week, and if you were in a
- 5:42Speaker 1: weekly league like me, you might actually have had it
- 5:45Speaker 1: started in like just eight a blank week, because he
- 5:48Speaker 1: played Sunday like he was kind of playing through this
- 5:51Speaker 1: and had been on again, off again. But it's been
- 5:55Speaker 1: a tough season for MIKEL. Garcia. Obviously. I think last
- 5:58Speaker 1: year was this peak year with the sixteen homer's twenty
- 6:00Speaker 1: three stolen bases. This year, I mean it was more muted,
- 6:04Speaker 1: but three homers, five stolen bases, two sixty one with
- 6:07Speaker 1: thirty RBIs over sixty nine games and ninety WRC plus.
- 6:11Speaker 1: But he was starting to get a little bit of
- 6:13Speaker 1: a rhythm after coming back from a previous injury, and
- 6:17Speaker 1: so like, what do you do with Mike Carlo Garcia
- 6:21Speaker 1: going forward? I mean, we're gonna rattle through a bunch
- 6:23Speaker 1: more injuries, so he might be on a borderline for
- 6:27Speaker 1: people in shallower leagues that need the bench spot and
- 6:30Speaker 1: have to cut MIKEL. Garcia or out of bench spots
- 6:33Speaker 1: and just need a starter. So are you okay with
- 6:36Speaker 1: that or is there something in MIKEL. Garcia's profile that
- 6:39Speaker 1: makes you think cutting him could lead to regret later
- 6:42Speaker 1: in the season. Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I mean the hard thing with with Garcia, like under
- 6:46Speaker 2: the covers, he's literally the same guy we've had for
- 6:49Speaker 2: the last like three or four years, Like he really
- 6:51Speaker 2: has not progressed or regressed in any way, shape or
- 6:54Speaker 2: form under the covers. Pretty much the same walk rate,
- 6:57Speaker 2: pretty much the same strikeout rate, pretty much the same
- 7:00Speaker 2: cast profile. He had luck last year on his side
- 7:03Speaker 2: and that that worked out. He's not really running this year,
- 7:06Speaker 2: and I'm not sure what that comes down to. It's
- 7:09Speaker 2: not like he's all of a sudden slow. So I
- 7:12Speaker 2: I do think that he's on that borderline of cut
- 7:15Speaker 2: because that guy that we saw, like if we just
- 7:18Speaker 2: throw out last year in the sixteen homers and look
- 7:21Speaker 2: at the two years before four and seven homers, he's
- 7:23Speaker 2: got three this year, so let's just call it on
- 7:25Speaker 2: pace for eight this year. But that's the guy that
- 7:29Speaker 2: was had you know, single digit homers, but was stealing
- 7:33Speaker 2: thirty bases. And this year he's a guy that is
- 7:36Speaker 2: gonna be a single digit homers and maybe double digit
- 7:40Speaker 2: stolen bases, and the RBIs aren't going to be there.
- 7:43Speaker 2: The average is still middling, like there's not that much
- 7:47Speaker 2: here when you actually look at it at the end
- 7:49Speaker 2: of the day. Don't get me wrong, I want him
- 7:51Speaker 2: on my team if I have a spot for him.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I want him because you know, he's shown he can
- 7:56Speaker 2: do it before. But I think you have to recognize
- 7:58Speaker 2: that mckael Garcia is relatively replaceable at this point in time,
- 8:03Speaker 2: and if he's truly it sounds like he's been playing hurt.
- 8:05Speaker 2: If he's truly been playing hurt, I don't see the
- 8:08Speaker 2: results significantly changing the rest of the season. So I'm
- 8:12Speaker 2: he's on the cut line. For me, I'm fine doing it.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I'd still love to have him if I can. But
- 8:17Speaker 2: if you have to make a hard choice, this is
- 8:19Speaker 2: not the hardest choice in the world.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm there with you, because, especially this profile,
- 8:24Speaker 1: what was making him valuable was that he was just
- 8:26Speaker 1: like a tick above average and played and gave you
- 8:31Speaker 1: all category contribution and so that's why he would he
- 8:35Speaker 1: costed the picky he did, and I think it was
- 8:37Speaker 1: still a fair price back at the draft table, but
- 8:39Speaker 1: this was obviously kind of the downside, as if he
- 8:41Speaker 1: had regressed to the tick below average and had an
- 8:45Speaker 1: injury involved that certainly, I think you can find something
- 8:48Speaker 1: in whatever league. In shallow leagues, I think you're probably
- 8:52Speaker 1: the only place you're thinking about cutting him would be
- 8:54Speaker 1: tens and twelves, and in that level of league you
- 8:57Speaker 1: can probably find something. Or the Colorado Rockies have like
- 9:02Speaker 1: a huge stretch of games in Coors Field over the
- 9:04Speaker 1: next week in early July, and so you can find
- 9:08Speaker 1: the right streams in your league, I think to make
- 9:11Speaker 1: up for whatever or mikel Garcia was offering you. Okay, uh,
- 9:16Speaker 1: the next injury we have probably not terribly surprising, but
- 9:20Speaker 1: we are gonna plumb the depths even further of the
- 9:22Speaker 1: ale because we're gonna go to the Angels. Talk about
- 9:25Speaker 1: Mike Trout straining his hamstring. He made it a decent
- 9:29Speaker 1: amount of way into the season almost halfway, seventy four games,
- 9:32Speaker 1: seventeen homers, seven stolen bases, with a two thirty four average.
- 9:36Speaker 1: The stolen bases were a nice boon there, put up
- 9:38Speaker 1: fifty four runs in the seventy four games. By all
- 9:42Speaker 1: kind of what I'm reading about this injury, it seems
- 9:45Speaker 1: like it's a relatively mild strain, and I think especially
- 9:50Speaker 1: what the Angels are doing is they know that Mike
- 9:52Speaker 1: Trout is thirty four years old and going to be
- 9:54Speaker 1: turning thirty five and just over a month just being
- 9:57Speaker 1: careful with him, and they've seen what happens when they
- 10:00Speaker 1: push him too hard. This team's not going anywhere, so
- 10:02Speaker 1: they want to preserve everything they can out of Mike
- 10:06Speaker 1: Trout for the foreseeable future. I guess with those things considered,
- 10:11Speaker 1: my question here is is this somebody If you're looking
- 10:13Speaker 1: for power down the stretch and you need to add somebody,
- 10:17Speaker 1: is this a good target for you in Mike Trout?
- 10:19Speaker 2: I actually think so. And part of that is the Angels,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and I may regret saying this, are actually being smart
- 10:28Speaker 2: in this aspect because to your point, they're they're recognizing
- 10:31Speaker 2: what they haven't for the last few years with Trout,
- 10:33Speaker 2: which is if anything is off a little bit, this
- 10:35Speaker 2: guy will play and run through a wall. So take
- 10:38Speaker 2: him off the field, give him the time, get him healthy,
- 10:42Speaker 2: then he's gonna go out there and be produce relatively
- 10:44Speaker 2: all star levels, like he is playing at that kind
- 10:47Speaker 2: of level. You know, we double his production right now,
- 10:52Speaker 2: and look at this as a full season. This is
- 10:54Speaker 2: a thirty five homer, you know, one hundred runs. You know,
- 10:58Speaker 2: RBIs are kind of down, but that's an angel's thing.
- 11:01Speaker 2: And honestly, he's underperforming from a batting average perspective, and
- 11:04Speaker 2: he could steal fifteen bases like this all star production.
- 11:08Speaker 2: So I do think you actually can get a discount
- 11:11Speaker 2: on Trout right now because you could easily play this
- 11:14Speaker 2: is like we don't know the Trouts. As soon as
- 11:16Speaker 2: he gets hurt, he never comes back. Like there's an
- 11:17Speaker 2: easy talk track on it. But I look under the
- 11:20Speaker 2: at the metrics underneath, like he's still doing like he's
- 11:23Speaker 2: Mike Trout's never been a guy that could not hit. Like,
- 11:26Speaker 2: let's be very clear, He's always been that guy. The
- 11:29Speaker 2: speed has come and gone, but that's okay. And I
- 11:33Speaker 2: even say that he's been caught twice stealing in the
- 11:37Speaker 2: last like seven years, and so like he's still efficient
- 11:41Speaker 2: when he does. He just he's kind of the Albert Poohles, Uh,
- 11:44Speaker 2: you know, stealing kind of guy. He's gonna sneak it,
- 11:46Speaker 2: sneak those in. Maybe Josh Naylor is a better appropriate
- 11:50Speaker 2: current comp there, but I'm I'm buying I'm buying Mike Trout.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I It feels kind of funny to say, but I
- 11:57Speaker 2: think the Angels have realized their goal with my Trout
- 12:00Speaker 2: now is to get him the five hundred home runs
- 12:02Speaker 2: for his career and you know, lock in that very much,
- 12:06Speaker 2: first ballot Hall of Famer that he is. That's that's
- 12:09Speaker 2: what they're doing. There's nothing else to do with Mike
- 12:11Speaker 2: Trout rather than make sure that he gets what he
- 12:15Speaker 2: deserves as far as playing time.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yep, Okay, Yeah, I think I'm on the same page
- 12:19Speaker 1: with you that I think it's a decent person to
- 12:22Speaker 1: address your power if you need it down the stretch
- 12:25Speaker 1: and you're adding at the fantasy trade deadline. So yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 1: it's kind of crazy that Mike Trout's gotten to that point.
- 12:32Speaker 1: But I'm feeling relatively positive about this injury as well too,
- 12:36Speaker 1: that they, like I said, they're really taking it for
- 12:40Speaker 1: the right precautions and it seems like they're treating him well.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Next injury. This is kind of crazy that this is
- 12:45Speaker 1: this far up in the news and notes. Liam Hicks,
- 12:49Speaker 1: star catcher for the Miami Marlins now hitting the il
- 12:53Speaker 1: with a lower backstring, was slashing two seventy eight, three,
- 12:57Speaker 1: fifty nine, four seventy two. There was a one twenty
- 12:59Speaker 1: nine WRC plus before he went on the shelf with
- 13:02Speaker 1: thirteen homers in seventy three games with fifty three RBI.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Was absolutely free at the draft table or a waiver
- 13:10Speaker 1: wire at at the beginning of the season and has
- 13:12Speaker 1: been a boon for catchers out there. So it's also
- 13:16Speaker 1: very telling that Miami did not call up Augustin Ramirez
- 13:19Speaker 1: to fill in for Liam Hicks, So that really creates
- 13:24Speaker 1: the writing on the wall, I think for Ramirez in Miami.
- 13:27Speaker 1: But let's focus here on Hicks. Is this top twelve
- 13:31Speaker 1: catcher for you rest of the season and even going
- 13:33Speaker 1: to twenty twenty seven. Is the profile that you see
- 13:36Speaker 1: in terms of his bat actually good enough to stay
- 13:40Speaker 1: up at that level or is this a guy who
- 13:42Speaker 1: had a really great hot half season and we're just
- 13:46Speaker 1: waiting for the pumpkin to rearrive to remor metamorphosize from
- 13:52Speaker 1: being the carriage in Cinderella.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, this might not be a popular take, but I'm
- 13:56Speaker 2: going the pumpkin route here with Liam Hicks. Yes, he
- 14:01Speaker 2: has done a good job. He's continued to hit, but
- 14:04Speaker 2: you know, if you look under the covers, expected batty
- 14:07Speaker 2: average is more like two forty two fifty. His home
- 14:10Speaker 2: run for fly ball rate is like three x's career average,
- 14:15Speaker 2: and so the thirteen homers he has this year probably
- 14:18Speaker 2: should be more like five. We're playing on a Marlins team, Like,
- 14:24Speaker 2: this is not a guy that is just has amazing power.
- 14:28Speaker 2: There's he's lean. Hicks is just good, but he is
- 14:31Speaker 2: not top twelve catcher material for me. There's enough guys
- 14:35Speaker 2: that have come through that are giving you a more
- 14:37Speaker 2: well rounded profile. There there are some guys that are
- 14:40Speaker 2: stealing some bases, There's there's guys that are hitting for
- 14:42Speaker 2: high average, and there's enough guys that have kind of
- 14:45Speaker 2: got that dual position eligibility, like you're Von Herreros, you're
- 14:48Speaker 2: Ben Rice's and guys like that that you add that
- 14:52Speaker 2: plus the new crop that's come through with the Shay
- 14:54Speaker 2: leng Lears, the Drake Baldwins. Even though Gustna Ramirez has
- 14:58Speaker 2: fallen off and a few others have kind of step
- 15:00Speaker 2: back I just I can't get fully on board with
- 15:03Speaker 2: Liam Hicks being my primary catcher. Like the guy I'm targeting,
- 15:06Speaker 2: he's like my fall back kind of guy. Like, well,
- 15:09Speaker 2: if I don't know what I want, I can be
- 15:10Speaker 2: happy with Hicks and he's not gonna hurt me. But
- 15:13Speaker 2: I'm like, he's more of a two catcher league guy
- 15:15Speaker 2: for me.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Okay, So he's fifth right now in our Player Raider
- 15:19Speaker 1: for catcher year to date. So if you drop him
- 15:22Speaker 1: out of the top ten, eleventh, is Samuel Basio, is
- 15:26Speaker 1: that someone you would rather have than Hicks?
- 15:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Like long term, like this year, I'm fine if
- 15:30Speaker 2: you want to run with Hicks because if there's one
- 15:32Speaker 2: thing to say, like the things are working, things are playing,
- 15:34Speaker 2: like the shoe's gonna, you know, gonna drop at some point.
- 15:37Speaker 2: But long term, yeah, Basio, I think is a so
- 15:40Speaker 2: much higher upside in the guy that I'd be willing
- 15:42Speaker 2: to take.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Okay, So then I think, yeah, you probably do have
- 15:45Speaker 1: him in that kind of mix of like Samuel Bassio,
- 15:48Speaker 1: Ryan Jeffers, Gapriel Moreno Cabet Rugez is hanging out at fourteenth,
- 15:52Speaker 1: But I'm not even on Capete Ruiz, so is Carson
- 15:54Speaker 1: Kelly at fifteen, Salvador Perez, Dalton rushing Will Smith.
- 15:57Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah at Dalton, Ran and Will Smith are
- 16:00Speaker 2: gonna jump up. He's he's probably above some of that
- 16:03Speaker 2: group with like Cubett Reeves and stuff like. But that's
- 16:06Speaker 2: the right area for me for Liamix.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's stick with catching about or talking about catchers,
- 16:12Speaker 1: because we have another injury at catcher with Adlei Rutchman
- 16:15Speaker 1: hitting the il with a concussion. He was clocking in
- 16:19Speaker 1: and well, give me a thing, and I gotta scroll.
- 16:21Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 16:21Speaker 1: It's actually tenth so right ahead of Samuel Viisio, but
- 16:25Speaker 1: had been pretty cold before this concussion. And we know
- 16:29Speaker 1: how brutal concussions can be four players long term. Just
- 16:33Speaker 1: look at the aforementioned Buster Posey, look at some of
- 16:37Speaker 1: the other players who have dealt with them over the years,
- 16:39Speaker 1: and especially I think where you see it start to
- 16:43Speaker 1: fall apart can be at the plate more than anything else.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I feel like when I've kind of seen players with
- 16:48Speaker 1: concussions in the past. And so he was hitting two
- 16:51Speaker 1: fifty four, three twenty nine, four fifty eight before the
- 16:54Speaker 1: injury with eight homers, So not prime Adley Retchman, but
- 16:58Speaker 1: certainly better than we've been seeing in twenty twenty four,
- 17:01Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. What's your read on Adley here for
- 17:04Speaker 1: the rest of the season and even kind of long term?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Is this a guy who can maintain being a top
- 17:08Speaker 1: ten catcher or was this a little bit of like
- 17:11Speaker 1: a lucky luck his way into it in the first
- 17:15Speaker 1: half here and you don't like the long term profile?
- 17:18Speaker 2: No, I mean adlely if we're saying what he's doing
- 17:21Speaker 2: right now is his long term, which I kind of
- 17:23Speaker 2: think it is. Like his his bad oft ball metrics
- 17:27Speaker 2: and his plate approach is still continue to be pretty
- 17:30Speaker 2: gushtang solid. The health continues to be the bigger challenge
- 17:34Speaker 2: for him. But if you if you extrapolate his numbers,
- 17:37Speaker 2: we're talking of a twenty homer bat that's probably going
- 17:40Speaker 2: to knock in eighty or ninety runs, hitting two fifty
- 17:43Speaker 2: from a catcher position like that. It's still valuable, but
- 17:47Speaker 2: it's not the Adlie that people think that he was
- 17:50Speaker 2: going to be after you know, his first two seasons
- 17:53Speaker 2: in the majors. The guy that's going to hit two
- 17:56Speaker 2: eighty thirty five homers, one hundred and twenty RBIs like
- 17:59Speaker 2: fight for the triple crown Joe Mauer style type of
- 18:02Speaker 2: thing like that's I think, and so it's kind of
- 18:04Speaker 2: funny if you compare like Liam Hicks and Athlete Rushman.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Like at the end of the day, the lines are
- 18:10Speaker 2: not too terribly different between those two guys. You know,
- 18:15Speaker 2: Hicks has another like twenty games on him, so he
- 18:18Speaker 2: has a few more homers on him, with the average
- 18:19Speaker 2: is a little bit better. Accounting stats are not too different.
- 18:23Speaker 2: But I would bet you like the narrative on Adley
- 18:26Speaker 2: is negative, negative, negative, whereas Hicks is positive positive, positive,
- 18:29Speaker 2: because of where their starting point is. But I would
- 18:32Speaker 2: argue I would probably take ADLEI long term because he
- 18:34Speaker 2: has the sustained profile that if if healthy, he can
- 18:39Speaker 2: hit the ball hard. He has a good played approach,
- 18:42Speaker 2: He's generally in a better lineup, so I do still
- 18:44Speaker 2: like him. The the concussion is concerning for this season.
- 18:50Speaker 2: As a guy that's had multiple concussions playing sports myself,
- 18:53Speaker 2: that that is not something to mess with. It takes time,
- 18:58Speaker 2: it disorients you. If you come back to soon, it
- 19:00Speaker 2: causes problems. So I'm not worried about him, like a
- 19:03Speaker 2: long term perspective, but the next month I'm a little
- 19:07Speaker 2: concern for ADLEI like, he has to be back fully healthy.
- 19:11Speaker 2: So I'm thinking after all Star break and he's kind
- 19:14Speaker 2: of in the back half of my top ten catchers.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm there with you where I think
- 19:20Speaker 1: the two eighty twenty to I mean, he never even
- 19:24Speaker 1: topped twenty homers, and that was in the season where
- 19:27Speaker 1: he put up six hundred and eighty seven play appearances.
- 19:29Speaker 1: We actually talked about this back when that happened in
- 19:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty three and going to twenty twenty four, that like,
- 19:34Speaker 1: athlete's always been a volume based guy. Where I think
- 19:40Speaker 1: where he's at in terms of at his playing time
- 19:44Speaker 1: levels right now, you're looking at something akin to what
- 19:46Speaker 1: he's put up this year, which is fifteen to eighteen
- 19:49Speaker 1: homers with a two sixty average, and that's going to
- 19:51Speaker 1: play as a back end top ten, top twelve catcher.
- 19:54Speaker 1: But yeah, I agree, I think we're in lockstep on
- 19:57Speaker 1: Adleie that there's just not more juice than the and
- 20:01Speaker 1: the more injuries that rack up, the more it hurts, because, yeah,
- 20:04Speaker 1: Samuel Bocail is breathing right down his neck and he's
- 20:07Speaker 1: only twenty one years old and hanging as a catcher
- 20:09Speaker 1: in the big leagues, that that defense is only going
- 20:12Speaker 1: to go get better, and that playing time's only integrade
- 20:15Speaker 1: more and more for Retchman as we go throughout twenty
- 20:18Speaker 1: six and to the future. Okay, let's talk Jack Lighter
- 20:22Speaker 1: with the Texas Rangers. Originally went down with what was
- 20:25Speaker 1: called a posterior ankle impingement, which is, like I thought,
- 20:30Speaker 1: it was just a fancy name for an ankle sprain.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Turns out he had a loose body in that ankle,
- 20:35Speaker 1: and they removed it and he's out in definitely now.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So I'm actually encouraged by this because early in the
- 20:42Speaker 1: season he looked relatively good and he looked confident on
- 20:46Speaker 1: the mound, and he over the last month or so
- 20:50Speaker 1: looked totally lost and just did not have the confidence,
- 20:54Speaker 1: was not finding them zone correctly. And this is a
- 20:58Speaker 1: guy who I think he is twenty six now, but
- 21:02Speaker 1: I think there's still a lot of talent in that arm.
- 21:06Speaker 1: And I'm willing to chalk up this past month of
- 21:08Speaker 1: the five starts with the six seventy five ra and
- 21:12Speaker 1: four point three walk per nine to that ankle being
- 21:16Speaker 1: a problem, because before that it was significantly better. Let
- 21:21Speaker 1: me use my tools to capture it.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Fully.
- 21:25Speaker 1: We were looking at well it was a four to
- 21:28Speaker 1: sixty one era but four eighteen pip.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah. I was looking at myself like, I don't your
- 21:32Speaker 2: narrative that right here?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Maybe his injury was yeah, it was okay, it's been rough.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Maybe I'm just I should finally be out on Jack
- 21:40Speaker 1: Lder is maybe what I'm realizing. Are you there too,
- 21:43Speaker 1: or you mister injured pitcher gonna snatch him up on
- 21:46Speaker 1: the low?
- 21:47Speaker 2: Well, I've been burned pretcyyfically this year with my injured pitchers,
- 21:50Speaker 2: But I was already out of Jack Lider. Jack Lighter
- 21:54Speaker 2: is the kind of profile that I just stay away from.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Controls issues are are his his go to fly balls,
- 22:02Speaker 2: high whip, that's just a recipe for disaster. He need
- 22:08Speaker 2: He needs more movement on his pitches. He needs a
- 22:10Speaker 2: little more deception, something else. He needs something that's going
- 22:14Speaker 2: to keep the ball on the ground. It just there's
- 22:17Speaker 2: a lot of talent there, but the pitch ability for
- 22:20Speaker 2: me as I come through, and I think that's fair
- 22:22Speaker 2: for a number of the Texas pitchers. Kumar Rocker I
- 22:26Speaker 2: think falls in that as well. Like a lot of talent,
- 22:30Speaker 2: but the pitch ability hasn't come through. So I'm actually
- 22:32Speaker 2: a little sorry to become a little more concerned with
- 22:35Speaker 2: the Texas pitcher development process than the pitchers themselves. And
- 22:41Speaker 2: so that that is concerning. I know, like evaldying someone
- 22:44Speaker 2: you know are our guys, but that's not a picture
- 22:46Speaker 2: development thing. That's just who that picture is. So I'm
- 22:49Speaker 2: generally out a lighter, not a guy that I really
- 22:51Speaker 2: want to touch.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's fair. Let's go to Arizona where
- 22:55Speaker 1: we've got a handful of injuries and then a call up.
- 22:58Speaker 1: So Michael Sarro goes down on the IL with a
- 23:02Speaker 1: glute strain. So yep, that's right in his butt. And
- 23:05Speaker 1: so it was a solid season so far for Mike Soroka.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Michael Soroka three oh seven ERA two ninety three, fifth,
- 23:13Speaker 1: eighty two innings with a eight point seven K nine.
- 23:17Speaker 1: I think he is who he is. He's he found
- 23:19Speaker 1: a really good groove and a good picch mix there
- 23:21Speaker 1: for Arizona. So if that continues to play, and you
- 23:24Speaker 1: got the IL spots for Soroka, I say hang on
- 23:26Speaker 1: to him. If not, you gotta let him go. I understand.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Jordan Lawler also hitting the iel with a hamstring injury
- 23:34Speaker 1: right after he came back from his broken wrist, Which
- 23:37Speaker 1: is I mean, is this just who Jordan Lawler is?
- 23:40Speaker 1: Is he like just made of glass? Is he one
- 23:43Speaker 1: of those guys where we're never going to see a
- 23:45Speaker 1: good stretch.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I think you have to treat him like Byron Buckston,
- 23:49Speaker 2: like I don't know if that's that's fair to eat.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I mean, he's yeah, but like that, if you think
- 23:55Speaker 2: about Buxton for the longest time, like you're like, there's
- 23:58Speaker 2: a ton of talent here if only he and stay
- 24:00Speaker 2: healthy for a season. And I know, I know, we
- 24:02Speaker 2: haven't seen Lawler do like he's had a single major
- 24:05Speaker 2: league home run, so like it's not the fairest comparison,
- 24:08Speaker 2: but from a talent profile, from a way he plays
- 24:11Speaker 2: the game, things like that. That's kind of what it
- 24:13Speaker 2: feels like. And Lawler next year could be healthy the
- 24:16Speaker 2: entire year and have a great season. But I don't
- 24:19Speaker 2: know that you can invest for that to happen. I
- 24:21Speaker 2: think you have to invest, like a few years ago
- 24:24Speaker 2: with Buckston and go I'm hoping for I get a
- 24:26Speaker 2: half a season out of this guy, which could be
- 24:28Speaker 2: really great production. But I gotta pay like I'm meeting
- 24:31Speaker 2: half a season out of full season, and now we're
- 24:33Speaker 2: paying for Buckston like a full season, and it feels wrong,
- 24:35Speaker 2: it feels a little lucky. That's I think the kind
- 24:38Speaker 2: of guy Jordan Lawler is, and knowing that he doesn't
- 24:41Speaker 2: have the full track record, I'm generally staying away. He's
- 24:45Speaker 2: a back in the draft. He's a you know, pick
- 24:47Speaker 2: up when he's healthy kind of guy and hope for
- 24:49Speaker 2: the best, but don't spend any more calories in that.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's very fair. I think I'm right
- 24:54Speaker 1: there with you. Then other injury they had was Ryan
- 24:56Speaker 1: Nelson going down with a strained flexer. This search a
- 25:00Speaker 1: civil stats look brutal for Ryan Nelson. It was a
- 25:02Speaker 1: four to ninety seven ERA in a five forty fifth
- 25:05Speaker 1: over eighty three and a third innings. But he had
- 25:08Speaker 1: these two back to back starts in late April, where
- 25:13Speaker 1: like I have Ryan Nelson in multiple leagues that we're in,
- 25:15Speaker 1: and I didn't play either of these because he had
- 25:18Speaker 1: Toronto at home and San Diego at home where he
- 25:20Speaker 1: gave up fourteen runs over five and a third innings.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Fe'd avoided that he was more of a league average pitcher.
- 25:25Speaker 1: And you know, I was streaming him a lot against
- 25:28Speaker 1: weak opponents on the road and at Colorado, against Colorado
- 25:32Speaker 1: at home and things like that that I think Ryan
- 25:34Speaker 1: Nelson's a good streamer spot, but obviously I think this
- 25:38Speaker 1: flexer strain is probably not great. I think he's probably
- 25:42Speaker 1: done for the season. We'll see what happens with Ryan Nelson,
- 25:45Speaker 1: but I'm just kind of calling that out there that
- 25:47Speaker 1: if you're looking for a cheap pitcher keeper, Ryan Nelson
- 25:51Speaker 1: I think can still fit the bill in something like
- 25:53Speaker 1: an autonew league or something with a daily setup. The
- 25:58Speaker 1: more interesting thing here in Arizona is there bring him
- 26:00Speaker 1: back up. Mitch Bratt, who was came over in the
- 26:04Speaker 1: Meryl Kelly trade last year from the Texas Rangers. And
- 26:06Speaker 1: you're like, wait, Meryl Kelly, he's on the dbacks. Well,
- 26:09Speaker 1: remember he got trade to Texas for the end of
- 26:11Speaker 1: last year and came back, so they were able to
- 26:14Speaker 1: pick up Bratt in that trade. And he's been relatively
- 26:17Speaker 1: solid in Triple A before this call up a two
- 26:19Speaker 1: eighty four RA with a seventeen point six K minus BB.
- 26:24Speaker 1: That's with eight and a half K nine over forty
- 26:27Speaker 1: four and a third innings four point fifteen FIP and
- 26:31Speaker 1: a little bit of a lower ground ball rate. But
- 26:33Speaker 1: he also was doing all this as a lefty in
- 26:36Speaker 1: the PCL, which is a daunting league. So what do
- 26:40Speaker 1: you think about Mitch Bratt joining the Arizona rotation here,
- 26:43Speaker 1: because I think he's probably in as long as Nelson's out,
- 26:47Speaker 1: and I think Nelson's out for multiple months.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. And I'm actually very interested in
- 26:53Speaker 2: this one because from a pure overall statistical profile, he
- 26:59Speaker 2: has a lot of things you like, to your point,
- 27:00Speaker 2: a little bit more fly balls than you'd want to have,
- 27:02Speaker 2: but he has really really good control, and that's something
- 27:06Speaker 2: that I think gets underestimated. And we talked about all
- 27:09Speaker 2: these hype prospects. From a pitching perspective, you're looking at
- 27:13Speaker 2: the velocity, You're looking at these guys that strike a
- 27:15Speaker 2: ton of guys out, and he does a good job.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Like I think he's going to be a Caper nine
- 27:19Speaker 2: kind of guy, but I think that he's going to
- 27:22Speaker 2: control the whip and keep it under like a one
- 27:25Speaker 2: to two. I think it's the big question comes down
- 27:28Speaker 2: to the homers like it. With that flyball profile, he's
- 27:32Speaker 2: had a tendency to give him quite a few homers
- 27:34Speaker 2: in the minor leagues. Is that the minor league environment
- 27:38Speaker 2: he's been on or is it who he is? And
- 27:41Speaker 2: I think that's really what I want to see. But
- 27:43Speaker 2: I don't know that I'm jumping out and picking him
- 27:46Speaker 2: up and chasing him because the pedigree is not something
- 27:49Speaker 2: that we talk about all the time. He was a
- 27:51Speaker 2: fifth round high schooler, you know, in the draft, like
- 27:55Speaker 2: his you know, his overall prospect report is a lot
- 27:58Speaker 2: of fifty grades future grades outside of the command. So
- 28:03Speaker 2: it's not like he's this amazing, amazing pitcher. But he
- 28:06Speaker 2: feels like a really really solid mindropactation piece. And I
- 28:10Speaker 2: want to see what that looks like. And to your
- 28:11Speaker 2: point of like Ryan Nelson, a guy that you can
- 28:13Speaker 2: plug and play, it feels like maybe a slightly better
- 28:16Speaker 2: version of Ryan Nelson if things work out, and like
- 28:19Speaker 2: that's kind of what I would be happy with with
- 28:21Speaker 2: Mitch Bratt yep.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I think I'm right there with you. I think it's
- 28:24Speaker 1: the same sort of this is Ryan Nelson from the
- 28:28Speaker 1: left side, with maybe a little more pedigree and a
- 28:30Speaker 1: little more talent from the prospect side. But yeah, Streamer,
- 28:35Speaker 1: someone you're gonna be careful with when he's in Arizona
- 28:37Speaker 1: and make sure that you're starting him against the proper teams.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Make sure that you're seeing with those teams that he's
- 28:44Speaker 1: facing with they're split is against lefties on the season,
- 28:47Speaker 1: to see whether or not they are worth streaming against.
- 28:50Speaker 1: But yeah, I think a nifty little pitcher, nice little
- 28:52Speaker 1: pickup if you're especially I mean if you're in a
- 28:54Speaker 1: deeper league and only fifteen teamer, I think he's an
- 28:57Speaker 1: ad there just to especially see what you got and
- 29:00Speaker 1: probably turns into an every week starter. Okay, let's get
- 29:04Speaker 1: to the Chicago White Sox. Well, we got two Chicago
- 29:08Speaker 1: teams to cover here, because first we'll start on the
- 29:10Speaker 1: South Side because they've been playing really well. They've been
- 29:12Speaker 1: holding their own against the Guardians. Did lose today right
- 29:15Speaker 1: before the storms rolled in to Chicago here. But this
- 29:19Speaker 1: is maybe another reason why you were a little bit
- 29:21Speaker 1: lower on Liam Hicks is because Kyle Teals finally back,
- 29:25Speaker 1: did have a rehab from his original hamstead injury that
- 29:31Speaker 1: was in May, and re injured himself, came back, had
- 29:36Speaker 1: another hot rehab stent in triple A where he put
- 29:39Speaker 1: up a five hundred average and four games hit triple
- 29:43Speaker 1: A before the call up with a homer and four
- 29:46Speaker 1: RBIs was just like, absolutely Mashing should walk in as
- 29:49Speaker 1: a strong side platoon for the White Sox, right in
- 29:52Speaker 1: the middle of that lineup. Is this another reason why
- 29:56Speaker 1: you were lower on Hicks because Kyle teals in your
- 29:58Speaker 1: top ten to twelve catchers the rest of the year.
- 30:01Speaker 2: He absolutely is, and I would say he's probably the
- 30:04Speaker 2: middle of that of that top ten catchers. There's a
- 30:08Speaker 2: lot to like here. When you talk about one of
- 30:11Speaker 2: the biggest challenges for catchers, it's usually that batting average
- 30:15Speaker 2: outside of a few few key guys like the Baldwins
- 30:18Speaker 2: and the Herreras. You know, I think this is a
- 30:21Speaker 2: guy that could hit like legitimately a two eighty guy
- 30:26Speaker 2: that's gonna have middling power, a little bit of speed,
- 30:30Speaker 2: and hitting in a surprisingly good lineup. I think there's
- 30:33Speaker 2: a lot to be said for that. And so I
- 30:35Speaker 2: think he's a sneaky value because I think he was
- 30:38Speaker 2: kind of in that that catcher crop that kind of
- 30:40Speaker 2: just kind of out came out of nowhere in the
- 30:42Speaker 2: last few years. He was like he was kind of
- 30:44Speaker 2: part of that. He was trying to be part of that,
- 30:46Speaker 2: and then the injuries happened, and I think everybody kind
- 30:48Speaker 2: of forgot about him, And even with Cuero getting called up,
- 30:51Speaker 2: they're like, oh, we're excited about Quera. Like no, Teal
- 30:54Speaker 2: is a you know, he's a huge piece, uh that
- 30:57Speaker 2: they brought over from a trade forective and they expect
- 31:01Speaker 2: a lot out of them, And I don't see any
- 31:04Speaker 2: reason why he won't do that. He's got he's been seasoned,
- 31:07Speaker 2: and I think he's going to be off the races.
- 31:09Speaker 2: So I would absolutely if Kyle Teal is available and
- 31:12Speaker 2: you need something, I'm I'm fully on board. I feel
- 31:17Speaker 2: kind of like for Kyle Teal like I did for
- 31:19Speaker 2: Dylan Dingler coming into the season. Now. I don't expect
- 31:23Speaker 2: the same result as Dinglar because that he's having a
- 31:26Speaker 2: career year for sure right now, but I think he
- 31:29Speaker 2: could be that kind of cheap guy that like was
- 31:33Speaker 2: already doing it and will continue to do it. So
- 31:36Speaker 2: I will buy Kyle Teal all day.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Yep. I think I'm with you there too. And looks
- 31:41Speaker 1: like maybe the bat speeds even up up from where
- 31:44Speaker 1: it was last year, so yeah, we could be looking
- 31:47Speaker 1: I don't think We've seen the ceiling for Kyle Teal,
- 31:49Speaker 1: so that's something to keep in mind as he's only
- 31:52Speaker 1: twenty four years old. Let's go to the other side
- 31:54Speaker 1: of Chicago, because things are getting pretty destitute in Chicago,
- 31:59Speaker 1: on the north side in Wrigleyville, because today the Cubs
- 32:03Speaker 1: put both Edward Cabrera and Ben Brown on the IL.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Cabrera going on with a hamstring injury, and plus it
- 32:10Speaker 1: sounds I was reading a couple of other reports where
- 32:13Speaker 1: it seems like he actually strained like one half of
- 32:15Speaker 1: his entire side of the body. Where it's been bad
- 32:18Speaker 1: for Edward Cabrera that like, I think he can drop
- 32:20Speaker 1: him in all leagues at this point, that the Cubs
- 32:24Speaker 1: have no idea how to fix Edward Cabrera, and he's
- 32:27Speaker 1: been dealing with those blisters all season and now he's
- 32:30Speaker 1: dealing with strains of all sorts. It's not a great
- 32:33Speaker 1: trajectory for Cabrera. Ben Brown going on the IL with
- 32:37Speaker 1: a next strain. And this is a bummer because if
- 32:40Speaker 1: you had Ben Brown, you probably did not pay very
- 32:44Speaker 1: much for him, and he was a boon for you
- 32:46Speaker 1: because put up a one eight five era, a two
- 32:50Speaker 1: point fifty fifth, a forty five percent ground ball rate
- 32:54Speaker 1: with just over eight and a half k per nine
- 32:56Speaker 1: over sixty eight innings. It was this is the Ben
- 33:00Speaker 1: Brown that we had been wanting and it finally was working.
- 33:03Speaker 1: They added a sinker to the profile that really changed
- 33:06Speaker 1: everything else around his arsenal. So what do you think
- 33:10Speaker 1: about Ben Brown? Is he? Is he a solid pitcher
- 33:12Speaker 1: for you going forward? Honestly, it reminds me he's like
- 33:15Speaker 1: in the dustin may Mold where the velocity is great.
- 33:18Speaker 1: He found that sinker to be able to hang on
- 33:21Speaker 1: as a starting pitcher. And maybe it's not the high
- 33:23Speaker 1: highs that we saw him as a reliever, but a
- 33:26Speaker 1: guy who gets a strikeout per inning and gives you
- 33:28Speaker 1: solid ratios is going to play all day.
- 33:30Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I think he's gonna play all day. And
- 33:32Speaker 2: I absolutely love a kind of breakout player that we
- 33:36Speaker 2: had a lot of hope for with him. Make a
- 33:38Speaker 2: change and when they to your point, out of the
- 33:41Speaker 2: sinker that's really helped him. Ground ball rate is up.
- 33:45Speaker 2: He definitely a little bit of luck and the home
- 33:48Speaker 2: run era this year so yeah, is he had one
- 33:53Speaker 2: eighty five era? Guy?
- 33:54Speaker 1: Know?
- 33:55Speaker 2: Is this a mid threes the upper threes? The gay
- 33:57Speaker 2: probably so very very solid mid rotation guy for me
- 34:01Speaker 2: going forward. Yeah, neck injury, hopefully it's just you know,
- 34:05Speaker 2: tight neck and little massage therapy, gets that taken care
- 34:08Speaker 2: of it and we move on with life. But I
- 34:12Speaker 2: think he's absolutely worth rostering and relatively relying on. I
- 34:17Speaker 2: don't see a real reason you shouldn't, unlike Edward Cabrera, which, yeah,
- 34:22Speaker 2: well that's just let's move on from that one.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. It's there's nothing redeeming in that profile right now.
- 34:31Speaker 1: So I'm right there with you. Yeah, Like I said,
- 34:34Speaker 1: things are desperate in the North Side for rotation help
- 34:38Speaker 1: because they're down to three starters, and that includes already
- 34:42Speaker 1: putting Javier Asad in. They've called up Vince Velasquez. They
- 34:46Speaker 1: just claimed Bryce Wilson off of waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I've been writing about this all all season in my
- 34:53Speaker 1: BP pieces that the Cubs had no depth on their
- 34:57Speaker 1: Triple A and Double A system and it might cost
- 35:01Speaker 1: them a playoff spot down the stretch because, uh, the
- 35:05Speaker 1: lineup was formidable, maybe so formidable that they were able
- 35:08Speaker 1: to get rid of Moses by Steros, who got demoted
- 35:10Speaker 1: this week, and if you told me this back in April,
- 35:14Speaker 1: I would not have believed it because I was having
- 35:17Speaker 1: buyer's remorse not having Moyses by Asterios anywhere, because I
- 35:20Speaker 1: had some faith in the bat, and he looked like
- 35:23Speaker 1: he was off for a career year A three thirty eight,
- 35:26Speaker 1: three ninety two six point twenty slash line A one
- 35:29Speaker 1: seventy nine WRC plus in April. Uh, it looked like
- 35:34Speaker 1: he was going to be in the conversation for All
- 35:37Speaker 1: Stars for just every sort of breakout list that he
- 35:41Speaker 1: was on as a twenty two year old. Since then,
- 35:44Speaker 1: ninety six played appearances one forty one, two twenty nine,
- 35:47Speaker 1: one eighty eight with a twenty five percent k rate.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Is this just another case of your meine, Mercedes, or
- 35:55Speaker 1: do you have actual faith that Moyses bi Asterios can
- 35:59Speaker 1: rEFInd that magic that he showed in April?
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure all the way you're in, Mercedes,
- 36:08Speaker 2: but I don't think it's too far off from that.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Like this just never was a bat that really looked
- 36:13Speaker 2: the part, and he definitely relied on some pretty solid luck,
- 36:16Speaker 2: and luck turns it just doesn't quite come there. So
- 36:19Speaker 2: is he gonna be He's kind of the guy that's
- 36:20Speaker 2: gonna bunce around from team's team and and have little
- 36:23Speaker 2: spats here and there. There is more of your backup catcher,
- 36:27Speaker 2: but unfortunately he's not the greatest catcher, so it becomes
- 36:32Speaker 2: a big challenge that he's more of that bench pinch
- 36:34Speaker 2: hitter bat for me. So I'm I'm kind of I've
- 36:37Speaker 2: kind of already written him off. I really never got
- 36:39Speaker 2: on the bad and had wagon even when he was hot.
- 36:41Speaker 2: I just I was struggling with the overall profile and
- 36:44Speaker 2: and seen it like sticking for him. So I'm I've
- 36:47Speaker 2: really not given him any thought.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I think we've seen the
- 36:53Speaker 1: heights and where it could go, but like I think
- 36:56Speaker 1: it's just not enough of a it's an all and
- 37:00Speaker 1: when you actually watch him, he's got a few holes
- 37:02Speaker 1: here and there too, where like you said, it was
- 37:04Speaker 1: a lot of luck driven. I think the league figured
- 37:06Speaker 1: him out pretty fast. So if you do see adjustment,
- 37:09Speaker 1: that's gonna be huge, because that's what you mean. Mercedes
- 37:12Speaker 1: was unable to do. Where these guys with kind of
- 37:14Speaker 1: the more grooved swings and played approaches and just they
- 37:21Speaker 1: can have a hot stretch and really get going. But
- 37:23Speaker 1: once the league starts focusing on them, if they can't
- 37:26Speaker 1: bounce back, then they're kind of cooked as a DH
- 37:30Speaker 1: corner backup bat.
- 37:32Speaker 2: This is your overseas bat all day.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that's very very true. Yeah. Okay, Well, we've
- 37:40Speaker 1: got one more demotion to cover in our news and notes.
- 37:42Speaker 1: This one is I mean, it was a long time coming.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Entre Painter did not look like he had any juice
- 37:49Speaker 1: this year. He got sent down after an awful start
- 37:52Speaker 1: seven six ERA over sixty five innings with a K
- 37:57Speaker 1: minus BB that was under ten. The strikeout rate was
- 38:01Speaker 1: only seventeen point seven percent, the fastball was pretty poor
- 38:05Speaker 1: in shape and in terms of ve low Unfortunately, I
- 38:10Speaker 1: think this is who he is where we had this
- 38:12Speaker 1: discussion a little bit with Spencer Strider recently in terms
- 38:15Speaker 1: of like just the arm injuries took a toll. I
- 38:19Speaker 1: think they did on Painter two. I don't think it
- 38:22Speaker 1: was a coincidence that it took him so long to
- 38:24Speaker 1: get back from that Tommy John surgery and that he
- 38:28Speaker 1: hasn't been able to put it all together. So for me,
- 38:31Speaker 1: back end rotation streamer if he ever kind of gets
- 38:35Speaker 1: it back together, but he's got a long way to
- 38:37Speaker 1: go in terms of redeveloping and relearning how to pitch
- 38:40Speaker 1: after losing his main weapon.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Are you there with me?
- 38:43Speaker 1: Or is there something more hopeful in this profile for painter?
- 38:47Speaker 1: For you?
- 38:48Speaker 2: Now I'm there with you. This is the perfect scenario.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Guy that needs to kind of rework everything, you know,
- 38:54Speaker 2: do the pitch labs in the winner, a thing like that.
- 38:56Speaker 2: His fastball was dreadful, his slider no better, and those
- 39:01Speaker 2: were that you know, that was made up almost sixty
- 39:03Speaker 2: percent of the pitches he threw, so not like the
- 39:06Speaker 2: other ones were done better, but you know, guy was
- 39:09Speaker 2: trying to use a six pitch mix and none of
- 39:11Speaker 2: them outside his curveball rated positively. The curveball he threw
- 39:15Speaker 2: nine percent of the time, probably only positively because so
- 39:18Speaker 2: frequently h so infrequent usage of that. So he needs
- 39:22Speaker 2: to rework things, he needs to figure things out. It's
- 39:24Speaker 2: that kind of stuff that works really well in the
- 39:27Speaker 2: minors because still developing hitters, the velocity he can bring
- 39:31Speaker 2: like that's that's gonna be hard. The guys that are
- 39:34Speaker 2: making adjustments to the major league level, you don't if
- 39:37Speaker 2: you don't have that movement, you don't have that exception
- 39:39Speaker 2: that things to play off of each other. It's just
- 39:41Speaker 2: not gonna play. And right now he he all of
- 39:44Speaker 2: his pitches I think grade relatively below average.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean on top of it too, it's
- 39:51Speaker 1: just like it never he never looked terribly confident and
- 39:53Speaker 1: it just started eroding. And yeah, we'll see if he
- 39:56Speaker 1: can bounce back. And I mean I think if he.
- 40:00Speaker 1: I think the peak though, is just like a number
- 40:03Speaker 1: four starter, even for Fancy. So that's something to consider
- 40:06Speaker 1: if you're in dynasty, keep your situations. Even if he's
- 40:08Speaker 1: twenty three that I just don't know if there's enough
- 40:12Speaker 1: juice in that arm anymore for him to rediscover that magic.
- 40:16Speaker 2: And I think it's fair for any pictures in a
- 40:18Speaker 2: minor league situation, if you can find somebody else and
- 40:23Speaker 2: there's name value for a guy that's struggling, move them.
- 40:26Speaker 2: In that dynasty format, you can always especially in the
- 40:29Speaker 2: pitching side, there's always guys that are figuring things out,
- 40:31Speaker 2: breaking out. We've seen a number of them this year.
- 40:34Speaker 2: So be willing to cast off that guy that you
- 40:38Speaker 2: have to hold on to, and there's gonna be a
- 40:40Speaker 2: new crop coming. So Andrew Painter I think is like
- 40:43Speaker 2: he's great trade bait right now, because I think there's
- 40:45Speaker 2: enough people that still believe in him. But I think
- 40:49Speaker 2: you're better off moving on and picking up a number
- 40:52Speaker 2: of other guys or looking at the draft this year,
- 40:55Speaker 2: the college draft, the high school draft, and then seeing
- 41:00Speaker 2: what can come through for a pickup for you later.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Yep, I think I'm there with you. Okay, Just a
- 41:05Speaker 1: little bit of card news. First, we had the pre
- 41:08Speaker 1: order go live for Tops Chrome twenty twenty six, and
- 41:12Speaker 1: that has been added to the Baseball card calendar coming
- 41:14Speaker 1: out on July twenty second. We will have a mega
- 41:17Speaker 1: overview of that as we get closer to that date.
- 41:19Speaker 1: It is going to be one of the major releases
- 41:21Speaker 1: of the summer, and it's going to be expensive. As
- 41:25Speaker 1: I'll get out is because you can go to my
- 41:27Speaker 1: Blue Sky profile. The prices are absurd. It's over three
- 41:31Speaker 1: dollars a card if you want to buy any sort
- 41:33Speaker 1: of hobby product on the pre order, which is generally
- 41:37Speaker 1: a little bit cheaper than when it finally retails and
- 41:40Speaker 1: hits shelves on release date. So you're looking at two
- 41:44Speaker 1: hundred and forty dollars for a hobby box that came
- 41:47Speaker 1: with only eighty cards. Total in it. Four cards per pack,
- 41:50Speaker 1: twenty packs, one auto that I guarantee you is going
- 41:53Speaker 1: to be reliever auto. So it's going to be rough sledding.
- 41:58Speaker 1: For hobby boxes, jumbos weren't any better. Four hundred and
- 42:01Speaker 1: ten dollars, eleven cards per pack, twelve packs per box,
- 42:04Speaker 1: two autos, again over three dollars a pack, or three
- 42:07Speaker 1: dollars a card, three dollars a card for like just
- 42:12Speaker 1: regular base and stuff. I was ripping terms of top
- 42:15Speaker 1: chrome a few years ago when the hobbies were like
- 42:18Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty and the in the jumbos were
- 42:22Speaker 1: two fifty. It was good. It was good ripping back then.
- 42:25Speaker 1: But gonna be tough sledding on these.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, it's gonna be tough sledding. I really think
- 42:30Speaker 2: your your play is the Mega and value boxes. That's
- 42:32Speaker 2: where you're you're paying more under two dollars a card.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Like a value box. I think it's like twenty eight
- 42:38Speaker 2: cards for forty bucks. The the Mega is like forty
- 42:41Speaker 2: three cards for seventy bucks. Like so a little bit
- 42:44Speaker 2: more reasonable. You don't have the guaranteed hits, but you
- 42:46Speaker 2: do have in those generally your unique parallels, like your
- 42:52Speaker 2: extractors or things like that. So that's probably if you
- 42:55Speaker 2: want to play play in that game, grab yourself to
- 42:58Speaker 2: megas or a few value box is like, if you
- 43:00Speaker 2: want to play the game, you're probably because you just
- 43:03Speaker 2: have to remember. With Tops Chrome, like the auto chase,
- 43:06Speaker 2: you are, Yeah, you were guaranteed an auto, but the
- 43:10Speaker 2: likely of the auto being anything remotely interesting is so
- 43:14Speaker 2: low you might as well just gamble elsewhere. And if
- 43:17Speaker 2: you get an auto, greats. But your odds I think
- 43:19Speaker 2: you're gonna be so much better in the megabox value
- 43:21Speaker 2: box range.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and we'll get into it when we get the
- 43:24Speaker 1: full checklist and everything on the overview, So check that
- 43:27Speaker 1: out in a couple of weeks because I think that
- 43:28Speaker 1: will be we'll highlight that within the auto checklist, trying
- 43:32Speaker 1: to parse out what's actually in it, because it can
- 43:34Speaker 1: get really tough sometimes. The other component here is you
- 43:39Speaker 1: do have to keep in mind. I mean it's been
- 43:42Speaker 1: kind of shown obviously, I don't have the data to
- 43:45Speaker 1: back this up other than just seeing rips and breaks
- 43:48Speaker 1: with my own two eyes. The people who are getting
- 43:50Speaker 1: the breakers to lights boxes of Tops Chrome are going
- 43:53Speaker 1: to be at a very big, big advantage to get
- 43:57Speaker 1: the best cards on top of it. Even though the
- 43:59Speaker 1: retail cars are cheaper, generally Tops doesn't have as great
- 44:03Speaker 1: of quality control on those. So if you are in
- 44:07Speaker 1: a chase where you're trying to get cards degrade and
- 44:11Speaker 1: get back tens, honestly, you might have to go the
- 44:14Speaker 1: hobby route because sometimes that can be also just really
- 44:18Speaker 1: difficult to pull out of the retail boxes. I mean,
- 44:21Speaker 1: there are gonna be huge hits. There's gonna be tons
- 44:24Speaker 1: of huge chases, and we'll get into it. I mean,
- 44:26Speaker 1: we've already got one where this one's gonna be a
- 44:29Speaker 1: huge chase, and I'm into it. It's very gimmicky, but
- 44:32Speaker 1: I think it's the right type of gimmick where go
- 44:35Speaker 1: into the show notes. Click on the link to go
- 44:37Speaker 1: to the Instagram post for this. Tops already released that
- 44:41Speaker 1: they're gonna have Minions short prints in Tops Chrome twenty
- 44:44Speaker 1: twenty six for Baseball and Tops Chrome Update for Basketball. Now,
- 44:50Speaker 1: what I think makes these awesome is that it's kind
- 44:52Speaker 1: of like the the like hidden mascots or the mascot
- 44:56Speaker 1: replacement cards that we've seen from Tops, where you know,
- 44:59Speaker 1: I think the most classic one of these is a
- 45:01Speaker 1: YACHTI Molina where it's fred Bird in the Yadier Molina
- 45:04Speaker 1: pose from that card from that year. But they did
- 45:08Speaker 1: Minions for like Aaron Judge on the twenty twenty six
- 45:11Speaker 1: card and it's got the Aaron Judge face and I
- 45:14Speaker 1: love it. This is hilarious. This is great. I'm not
- 45:17Speaker 1: usually into like the Mickey cards because what takes this
- 45:20Speaker 1: over the top for me is that you've got the
- 45:23Speaker 1: minion acting like the player in the card in the
- 45:26Speaker 1: action shot, and so it becomes a chase card for
- 45:30Speaker 1: that player PC as well. I think these things are
- 45:33Speaker 1: gonna be huge. Chase cards are gonna be fun. It's
- 45:36Speaker 1: gonna be fun seeing them ripped. But if you do
- 45:39Speaker 1: hit one, I'm guessing you're gonna get a grand or
- 45:41Speaker 1: two out of one of them, because they it seems
- 45:43Speaker 1: like they're gonna be super short printed. So what's your
- 45:46Speaker 1: take on these Minions cards.
- 45:48Speaker 2: I think I think it's great, I really do. But
- 45:50Speaker 2: this is the one time that the EBA charade of
- 45:54Speaker 2: my kid bit on this card is like legitimate, So
- 45:58Speaker 2: just be careful, like you. This is the one that
- 46:01Speaker 2: you can easily see people not looking at the checklist
- 46:03Speaker 2: and understanding and ripping and go this is a gimmick
- 46:06Speaker 2: and just tossing to the side and then something like,
- 46:08Speaker 2: oh that that thing's legit rare like, and so I
- 46:11Speaker 2: can see being very divisive across the hobby and like
- 46:14Speaker 2: the only thing my kids would ever want out of
- 46:16Speaker 2: a baseball card pack.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean the baseball ones are cool. I
- 46:20Speaker 1: will say that the basketball ones are our stor elite though.
- 46:23Speaker 1: The Cooper flag with the little Mini Minion dunking and
- 46:26Speaker 1: the Steph Curry doing the rock a Bye Baby pose
- 46:30Speaker 1: on their cards.
- 46:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's next level.
- 46:32Speaker 1: That's great. H So we've only seen a handful of
- 46:35Speaker 1: the baseball ones. I hope that they get some funny
- 46:37Speaker 1: ones because that would just take it to another level.
- 46:40Speaker 1: So with that, that's really the main change that we
- 46:44Speaker 1: have in the baseball card release calendar. Check that out.
- 46:47Speaker 1: We're going to take a short break. We will be
- 46:48Speaker 1: talking our main subject, which is prospects to target in
- 46:52Speaker 1: Dynasty keeper trades. So stick around, all right, Welcome back everybody. So,
- 47:14Speaker 1: like we previewed at the beginning of the podcast, we
- 47:17Speaker 1: are starting to get into prime trade season, not only
- 47:20Speaker 1: for IRL baseball moves in terms of I mean, if
- 47:24Speaker 1: you go to MLB trade rumors nowadays, it's just all
- 47:27Speaker 1: source of chatter about who's going to be sold and
- 47:30Speaker 1: what people are pursuing. At the deadline, which is August
- 47:33Speaker 1: third this year, it's gonna be a little funky. It's
- 47:35Speaker 1: like a random Monday, I believe. So keep that in
- 47:38Speaker 1: mind if you've got any fantasy leagues that have something
- 47:42Speaker 1: tied to the real life trade deadline. But usually the
- 47:45Speaker 1: fantasy trade deadlines are roughly around that time, maybe a
- 47:48Speaker 1: month later sometimes to allow teams to make more progress.
- 47:53Speaker 1: But we figured in preparation for the trade deadline in
- 47:57Speaker 1: fantasy leagues out there, especially in prospects, keeper situations, dynasty situations,
- 48:03Speaker 1: you've got to start pursuing the right players to do
- 48:06Speaker 1: a rebuild if you're going to be selling some of
- 48:08Speaker 1: your main stars and trying to reload and get into
- 48:11Speaker 1: the future. And so we figured it'd be good to
- 48:14Speaker 1: discuss players that might be good to get into the
- 48:17Speaker 1: next layer of that deal. You know, in terms of
- 48:20Speaker 1: these are guys that I think are still a little
- 48:23Speaker 1: bit under the radar. I think a lot of them
- 48:25Speaker 1: will start cropping up on top fifty, certainly top one hundred,
- 48:29Speaker 1: but I mean some of these dudes are going to
- 48:30Speaker 1: be top fifty on the big list that start coming
- 48:33Speaker 1: out from like Keith Law and Baseball perspectives and fangrafts
- 48:36Speaker 1: here at the mid season point, during the All Star break,
- 48:39Speaker 1: so you can start getting in on the ground floor
- 48:42Speaker 1: with these guys, and I think you can kind of
- 48:45Speaker 1: tack them on as Innsilllary pieces to any sort of
- 48:47Speaker 1: trade deal where you know, everybody knows what Leo Dollas
- 48:51Speaker 1: DeVries is, everybody knows what hostwe Depaula is, what's who
- 48:54Speaker 1: Seth Hernandez is. So we're not talking about that tier
- 48:57Speaker 1: of guys. We're kind of getting into that next layer
- 49:00Speaker 1: where you're trying to find the next Leo Devriese. You're
- 49:02Speaker 1: trying to find that next Seth Hernandez. Well, I mean,
- 49:06Speaker 1: maybe the next Seth Hernandez is coming up in the draft. Yeah,
- 49:09Speaker 1: but these guys, I think you've got possibilities where the
- 49:13Speaker 1: investment now can really yield bigger results either in the
- 49:17Speaker 1: off season or for you next season. So I think
- 49:21Speaker 1: we're going to focus this conversation on a fantasy perspective,
- 49:24Speaker 1: but honestly, the baseball card market will follow the same
- 49:28Speaker 1: sort of trajectory. I think on most of these guys
- 49:30Speaker 1: where some of their markets are a little more expensive,
- 49:33Speaker 1: but I think some of them are still a little
- 49:35Speaker 1: bit more dormant, So you can get in on some
- 49:37Speaker 1: of their bowman first if they're out there and trying
- 49:40Speaker 1: to track where some of their cards might be. So
- 49:43Speaker 1: brew when you're looking at this like kind of tier
- 49:45Speaker 1: and level of prospect, is it one of your favorite
- 49:49Speaker 1: shopping spots for dynasty and keeper situations? And I mean
- 49:54Speaker 1: actually it's almost like the opposite of whatever that headline
- 49:57Speaker 1: lot is. Wherever I ask you a question, it's ever know,
- 50:00Speaker 1: it's always yes, But why is this your favorite being
- 50:03Speaker 1: to shopping? Yeah?
- 50:05Speaker 2: I mean this is a for you know, for all
- 50:07Speaker 2: of us, we love the potential to finding the next thing,
- 50:12Speaker 2: and this is like free shopping to a degree. Because
- 50:16Speaker 2: most of these guys are not well known. You can
- 50:20Speaker 2: use a lot more information to pull together and you
- 50:22Speaker 2: don't have enough stats to really fully immerse yourselves. But
- 50:27Speaker 2: these are the kind of guys that you truly can
- 50:30Speaker 2: dream on and you know that if you hit the
- 50:34Speaker 2: right guy, uh, it's going to pay dividends for a
- 50:36Speaker 2: long time. And so it like when I'm looking for
- 50:39Speaker 2: for guys like like this and specific specifically hitting like
- 50:43Speaker 2: on the batters. I'm looking for a few key things.
- 50:46Speaker 2: One of the things I learned from you and I
- 50:49Speaker 2: give you credit for, uh it is kind of a
- 50:51Speaker 2: smart thing, which is always look at the age versas level, Right,
- 50:54Speaker 2: you want the guys that are playing above their age
- 50:58Speaker 2: level in the minor league leagues. It's not always gonna
- 51:01Speaker 2: be that way, especially with the international kind of guys
- 51:04Speaker 2: where they might be in the complex leagues. But they're
- 51:06Speaker 2: also then looking for the potential five toolers from it.
- 51:10Speaker 2: You know, you don't want to be looking at the
- 51:12Speaker 2: one guy that's going to hit forty home runs or
- 51:14Speaker 2: the guy that's gonna steal seventy bases. You want the
- 51:16Speaker 2: guy that's going to be well rounded, because as these
- 51:20Speaker 2: guys grow and mature, some of those tools is fade off,
- 51:23Speaker 2: other ones will pick up. Like you want the most
- 51:26Speaker 2: opportunity in that upside, You're not you're not buying floor generally. Here,
- 51:29Speaker 2: you're buying upside. And then you're looking for the keys
- 51:32Speaker 2: that show you that they that they are mature enough
- 51:35Speaker 2: that they can reach that upside. Which brings me to
- 51:37Speaker 2: the last thing on hitters is like, you want discipline,
- 51:39Speaker 2: you want play discipline, You're not at this point in
- 51:41Speaker 2: time when you're looking at these young guys in lower levels,
- 51:44Speaker 2: you're not buying the guy with a thirty p k rate.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Those those are the ones that, yes, the l Dela
- 51:50Speaker 2: cruises and James Woods and stuff that they're gonna happen.
- 51:55Speaker 2: But for every one of those, there's like fifty that
- 51:58Speaker 2: didn't pan out, that had the tool, but the things
- 52:00Speaker 2: didn't work. Whereas the other side of the equation, the
- 52:03Speaker 2: guys that can take a walk, they can pick a pitch,
- 52:06Speaker 2: they don't they strike out. You know, twenty percent are
- 52:08Speaker 2: under and they are doing that against elevated level of competition.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Those are the really intriguing guys. And then the last
- 52:16Speaker 2: thing for me that I like to do is I
- 52:18Speaker 2: love to listen to the beat writers, the guys that
- 52:21Speaker 2: are that are watching these guys play, like how do
- 52:23Speaker 2: they play? Do they look mature? They look like they're
- 52:26Speaker 2: able to do things that that's like wow, and batting
- 52:30Speaker 2: practice things like that, because again, you you might be
- 52:33Speaker 2: talking about a guy that has twenty games at the
- 52:35Speaker 2: Complex league, but he's also going to take cost twenty
- 52:40Speaker 2: cents in a trade your point, the throwing kind of guy,
- 52:43Speaker 2: so that that's kind of what I'm looking for and
- 52:45Speaker 2: batters out. How about you, like, from a pittuer perspective,
- 52:47Speaker 2: what are the kind of things that you're you're looking
- 52:49Speaker 2: at trying to evaluate that kind of next crop that
- 52:52Speaker 2: you're shopping in the bargain bend for for the future
- 52:56Speaker 2: dynasty prospects.
- 52:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of the same
- 52:59Speaker 1: things that you were taught talking about on the hitter side,
- 53:01Speaker 1: where I like to see h to level. Obviously, you've
- 53:04Speaker 1: got to kind of factor in when the draft year
- 53:07Speaker 1: was for these players too, because I think of a
- 53:11Speaker 1: couple of them we will talk well, mainly the main
- 53:14Speaker 1: picture that I'll talk about especially came out of the
- 53:17Speaker 1: draft last year. So he's a little bit old age
- 53:19Speaker 1: to level compared to some of the other guys, but
- 53:22Speaker 1: that's only because that's where he started, and so you
- 53:25Speaker 1: want to see that. And I think the other thing
- 53:28Speaker 1: you want to see is it's almost like the strikeout rate,
- 53:31Speaker 1: where you want to see good control. You want to
- 53:33Speaker 1: see a solid ground ball rate, but I'm not wetted
- 53:36Speaker 1: to that if the strikeouts are really good, same thing
- 53:40Speaker 1: you want to see good reports where I think on
- 53:42Speaker 1: the batter side and on the picture side, all these
- 53:45Speaker 1: guys have had glowing reports in Baseball America, They've had
- 53:48Speaker 1: glowing reports on VP, and they've all also shown mastery
- 53:53Speaker 1: of their levels. Like I don't A guy who I've
- 53:56Speaker 1: shaded away from has been Ethan Salas because of this,
- 53:59Speaker 1: where like it's all projection and it's all like what
- 54:04Speaker 1: people are expecting and when you actually see him on
- 54:08Speaker 1: on the on the field, he's sure maybe young for
- 54:11Speaker 1: the level, but he's also not showing mastery at the
- 54:13Speaker 1: level either, So it's not showing a great chance to
- 54:16Speaker 1: come up and come up quickly. And then on the
- 54:19Speaker 1: pitching side, we've covered it a few times before. I
- 54:23Speaker 1: like big dudes, like big dudes play, big dudes like dominate,
- 54:28Speaker 1: and you just look at the guys who come up
- 54:30Speaker 1: you look at I mean, even Cam Schlitler is a
- 54:32Speaker 1: big old dude. So like, if the frame is there,
- 54:36Speaker 1: that's a huge plus. It's not necessary, but it's a huge,
- 54:39Speaker 1: huge plus. So yeah, I think let's dive into it.
- 54:43Speaker 1: Let's start on the on the batting side. So these
- 54:47Speaker 1: guys are probably my favorite right now, is there's a
- 54:50Speaker 1: trio of infielders in San Francisco, where I know we've
- 54:54Speaker 1: been dogging them the past few weeks, and honestly, the
- 54:58Speaker 1: Giants haven't been terribly rate at developing bets uh in
- 55:02Speaker 1: the past, but I think that it feels like they've
- 55:04Speaker 1: turned a corner because of this trio. Bryce Eldridge has
- 55:07Speaker 1: looked really solid, and so maybe there is something cooking
- 55:10Speaker 1: in the minor leagues now because uh, these three for
- 55:14Speaker 1: the Giants. Luis Hernandez a seventeen year old right now
- 55:19Speaker 1: at Complex Ball. He skipped the the DSL completely when
- 55:25Speaker 1: he was a amateur signing this spring. That's huge, Uh,
- 55:30Speaker 1: he is playing very well as a seventeen year old
- 55:32Speaker 1: two ninety one three sixty eight five seventy five slash
- 55:35Speaker 1: line a one nineteen w RC plus. You also got
- 55:38Speaker 1: Joe Suar Gonzalez, a switch hitting eighteen year old who
- 55:41Speaker 1: is also in the Complex League and is hitting three
- 55:45Speaker 1: eighty six five h nine five ninety one it's a
- 55:47Speaker 1: one seventy three w RC plus after a strong DSL
- 55:51Speaker 1: last summer. And then you've got Johnny Lovell, a nineteen
- 55:54Speaker 1: year old switch hitter who is hitting well across two
- 55:59Speaker 1: levels here a and a ball as a nineteen year old,
- 56:02Speaker 1: which is pretty nuts. Three ten, three seventy three, five
- 56:05Speaker 1: thirty one. It's only a one twenty four WRC plus
- 56:08Speaker 1: because especially that high A league is a pretty heavy
- 56:11Speaker 1: offensive environment. But I love all three of these dudes
- 56:15Speaker 1: for the Giants that like all the reports from the
- 56:19Speaker 1: the backfields have been very glowing. They've got up the
- 56:22Speaker 1: middle skills, all three of them. It's just a matter
- 56:26Speaker 1: of like trying to figure out who gets second base,
- 56:28Speaker 1: who gets shortstop, who gets their base in the future,
- 56:31Speaker 1: and whether or not the Giants can clear Matt Chapman,
- 56:34Speaker 1: Louisa Rise and William Damas out fast enough. I mean,
- 56:38Speaker 1: this is also why they're shopping those guys right now,
- 56:40Speaker 1: is because I think all three of these dudes are
- 56:43Speaker 1: the truth. I think they're all great bats, and I
- 56:46Speaker 1: think they're gonna be all like the next Leo Devreese
- 56:48Speaker 1: this time next year. Where you're talking. None of them
- 56:52Speaker 1: are huge. They're all standing in like five eight to
- 56:54Speaker 1: five ten. Johnny Lovels five eight, Hernandez and Gonzalez are
- 56:59Speaker 1: five ten bigger. You got two switch hitters, but all
- 57:03Speaker 1: of them should stick up the middle, and all of
- 57:06Speaker 1: them remind me of something of like a somewhere between
- 57:10Speaker 1: like a Jose Ramirez or just like Francisco Lindor, maybe
- 57:15Speaker 1: without the glove as much. So I think you're looking
- 57:18Speaker 1: like like thirty thirty upside on all three of these dudes.
- 57:21Speaker 1: Am I nuts that like these three dudes can all
- 57:24Speaker 1: get to that level in Warner organization? And also what
- 57:29Speaker 1: is kind of your preference of the three of these
- 57:31Speaker 1: between Hernandez, Gonzalez and Level.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think if I it's pretty easy
- 57:37Speaker 2: for me, Like it feels like the one that has
- 57:39Speaker 2: the most upside is Gonzales here, Like if you're if
- 57:42Speaker 2: you're looking at projectability, he's a guy that really just
- 57:46Speaker 2: seems to have kind of all the tools. He was
- 57:49Speaker 2: the top international position player in twenty twenty five from
- 57:54Speaker 2: that class. You know, I think be the switch hitter,
- 57:58Speaker 2: very toolsy. You know, I think that your Lindor type
- 58:02Speaker 2: comp is probably right for him. And again Lindor's power
- 58:06Speaker 2: took a little bit more time to come through. But
- 58:08Speaker 2: you know, we're talking about a guy that's eighteen in
- 58:10Speaker 2: the complex ball and you know, doesn't seem to be
- 58:13Speaker 2: having any issues. There was absolutely destroying it in the DSL.
- 58:17Speaker 2: So that's a guy especially kind of you know, he's
- 58:21Speaker 2: been walking between fifteen to twenty percent of the time,
- 58:23Speaker 2: Like he just looks advanced, very very far advanced. And
- 58:27Speaker 2: he's a guy that's gonna add some weight, he's gonna
- 58:29Speaker 2: add some muscle, and he's gonna start to hit the
- 58:31Speaker 2: ball out. So I think he's probably the guy that's
- 58:34Speaker 2: really got the high upside here. But I think each
- 58:37Speaker 2: of these guys is at minimum a solid starter, But
- 58:42Speaker 2: I think each one of them could be like a
- 58:46Speaker 2: solid fantasy starter as well with a few like outstanding seasons.
- 58:50Speaker 2: Now there's a ton of development that needs to come
- 58:52Speaker 2: in things, but it's it's very easy to look ahead
- 58:54Speaker 2: and see that the plate approach, the athleticism, you have
- 58:58Speaker 2: to love that. They're actually good gloves too, each one
- 59:02Speaker 2: of them, Like they can stick in that in that infield.
- 59:05Speaker 2: So there's a very very real situation here where you
- 59:08Speaker 2: have a second short and third type of uh you
- 59:11Speaker 2: know scenario with these three guys. So you know, are
- 59:14Speaker 2: all of them are gonna work out? No? Are you
- 59:16Speaker 2: gonna get maybebe a Xander Bogart start type profile here?
- 59:19Speaker 2: We're very solid. Yeah, Like I think that's a realistic outcome,
- 59:23Speaker 2: but that's a valuable player. And if you were to
- 59:26Speaker 2: pick a seventeen year old or eighteen year old and
- 59:28Speaker 2: say they're gonna end up being Xander Bogarts, that's great
- 59:31Speaker 2: for a dynasty perspective. So I like them all. Like
- 59:35Speaker 2: I said, Gonzalez is probably the like the cream of
- 59:37Speaker 2: the crop for me. I think he's got the best
- 59:40Speaker 2: potential of all of them. And that's not going off
- 59:43Speaker 2: of the stats, that's going off the reports. That's going
- 59:45Speaker 2: off to the tools he's in this that you see,
- 59:48Speaker 2: because again at this point, we're kind of reading the
- 59:51Speaker 2: tea leaves for all of these guys.
- 59:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think I'm right there with you.
- 59:56Speaker 1: So I'm glad to see that you. You're also just
- 59:59Speaker 1: as crazy is me that, Like, it is nuts that
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: these dudes are all teenagers in the Giant system, but
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I think they're all legit. I think I shade Hernandez
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: is my favorite, just because I think the upper level
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: outcomes for that bat are like what we wanted out
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: of prime Carlos Korea, and that is a first round
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: draft pick, where I think Josar Gonzalez is a little
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: bit more of a solid speed aspect, but I think
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: Hernandez's bat could be something where it's like a three
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: hundred and thirty to thirty five homer bat at peak.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: It's it's a trade off between like advanced hit advance
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: hit tool and like a in a athletic profile, right,
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: and that that's the trade off that you're playing there.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: So there's probably not a wrong answer here.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: Yeah, we're I mean, honestly, I think the way this
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: also shakes out that if they do all end up
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: on that San Francisco and field, Hernandez ends up at third,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: Gonzales ends up at short, and level ends up at second,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: where we didn't give level too much shine see as
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: a little bit shorter. But I mean, honestly, this it
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: is very Jose Ramirezi, So like the nucleus is there
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: and we just got to make sure that things kind
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: of follow through on level. But I think he's probably
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: in third for me just because of that that frame
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: that like sometimes these dudes turn into Jose Ramirez and
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: sometimes they turn into well being Francisco, you know, so
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: like there it can go either way, and it's going
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: to be a crucial kind of I think next eighteen
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: months on level to determine where that ultimate path goes.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Yeah, but he is already a high A as a
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: nineteen year old.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Yes, so yeah, he's making headway very quickly. Okay, let's
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: move on to our next guy, who I mean, I'm
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: thrilled about this guy too, where I've got him recently
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: in my podcasters Auto New League, and I'm trying to
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: pick him up wherever I can and wherever you're not
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: blocking me. So we're talking from the Tampa Bay Rays.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Theo Gillen, who is a twenty year old and now
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: at double A, just got promoted within the last week.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: Before that at high A, had slashed three forty two,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: four forty nine, five eighty nine. That's a one sixty
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: six WRC plus with twelve homers and twenty eight stolen bases.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: The strikeout rate is a little bit higher here, you know,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: it's in the the low twenties. But he's got a
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: great sentence of the zone. Nobody wants to throw it
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: in there against him. The walk rate has been at
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: ten percent plus, I mean in the mid teens. Great
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: contact rate as well too, where in twenty twenty four
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: is worried there's only sixty percent contact rate, which can
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: be a little fuzzy on fangrafts, but he's really shown
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: huge games this year where one thing that I do
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: look for on bats two is anything that's seventy five
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: percent plus on the contact rate. Mah, perfect like, but
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: if it goes beyond seventy eight plus, then you're like,
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: that's when you're starting to reach them. Pretty great territory.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: And THEO gillen Is was at seventy seven percent at
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: High A before the call up. He is foot two
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: when ninety five was drafted out of Westlake High School
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: in Austin, Texas. For me, this is Corbyn Carroll in
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: a bigger frame. What about you?
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I I was thinking more of a
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: Christian Yelich or something like that because of the on
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: base perspective, because he's been a kind of an on
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: base monster through throughout the miners at High A. Here
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: crust fifty seven games of four to forty nine OBP
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: and that's just you know, crazy. I mean, let's give
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: him credit for the four to thirty two babips, so
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: you know, maybe plays a little bit with that, but
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: still even the year year before at the A ball
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: he was four thirty three OBP, so like he he
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: definitely plays that extra piece there and he's got so
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: I think early career Christian Yellis is really what I'm
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: getting at, which is actually not too bad of a comfort.
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Cor Corbyn Carroll now that I ramble through it, so
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: I think we see the same things. This is a
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: guy with power, really good speed. I always love to
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: see the speed guys and the miners doing it efficiently,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: and he's absolutely done that. This year. We've got twenty
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: eight steels and only caught five times, and so he's
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: doing it efficiently, not just because he's fast and he's
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: running and you have a very high line line drive percentage.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: The one thing that I want to watch with him
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: the ground balls are a little bit higher than I
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: want to see, and so I want to see how
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: that develops as he ages a little bit, because he's
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: really relying on a very high homer to fly ball
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: rate right now, it's like a thirty three percent rate,
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: which is extremely high, and so we need to see
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: him trade that off a little bit with a little
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: bit more loft and some of that luck to come down.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: But being only twenty years old now at double a
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: and an organization that we all love for player development.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: There's a ton that comes from this. And you're talking
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: about a you know, a fifteen homer, thirty five forty
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: steel kind of guy, you know, early in his career
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: and then as he has that bulk and he has
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: that a little bitut that that launch angle, the ceiling
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: is extremely high here. So I think Gillan is you know,
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: if you haven't heard about him yet, like you will
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: be and he's gonna I don't know where he's gonna
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: be at in all the mid season in the season list,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: but it's it's he's gonna he's like the top twenty
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: five type of prospect in my mind already.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: Yeah. And I mean the other component here is that
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: I think you've only got a couple more weeks to
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: buy it in this window on Gillen before he does
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: get into those upper tiers because especially if you know
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: your league mates use fangrafts like everybody else. It's only
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: a forty five plus future value rating on him from
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: the Prospects Report, but that is not current for twenty
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: twenty six. That the last time they did the Tampa
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Bay system was back in February of twenty five, so
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: they do not have the most recent future value ratings
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: on THEO Gillan, And the last article that he's even
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: linked to is from Eric longenhanging the rest of the
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Prospect team of picks to click for the top one
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: hundred and twenty twenty seven. Because Gillan didn't make the
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: cut here for twenty twenty six on Fangrafts, He's going
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: to in a couple of weeks, So that fifty or
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: the forty five plus is probably going to be a
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: fifty five or sixty next time it comes out, I think.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: And so now's the time to swoop in on Theogillan
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: because the price is about to go through the roof
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: on him. So I think it's somebody who is honestly
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: a huge crucial piece in Dynasty Keeper to be pursuing
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: right now.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Next one we have is Eric Hartman, Yes Eric Hartman,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: not Eric Cartman from South Park, but Eric Hartman of
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: the Atlanta Braves and outfielder there a twenty twenty four
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: to twentieth round pick out of a high school in Canada.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: He's broken out this year at high eight as a
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: twenty year old. He doesn't turn twenty one untill next June.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: So he just turned twenty two three sixty three five
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: seventy four slash I know, one forty two WRC plus
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: eighteen bombs, twenty nine stolen bases, a twenty two point
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: eight percent strikeout rate, which is pretty solid. Everything looks
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: fantastic here. He's a left handed no, yeah, he's a
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: left handed bat right handed thrower, probably more of a
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: corner infield type, but in an organization that moves guys quickly,
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: has been showing major league quality skills at high A.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I think he's probably right on the precipice of going
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: to double A as we speak, but that might not
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: even hold back the Braves that they like what they
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: see enough, and there's enough injuries that rack up in
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: the outfield, so I think it's a very minut school chance,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: but there's a chance Hartman gets up this year. But
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: I think we were it should be the talk of,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: like spring training next year, whether or not Hartman can
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: maybe make the team, because that is where things really
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: kind of took off, where there was a lot of
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: chatter about the backfields and what Hartman was doing there
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: before the season kicked off. And he's kind of kept
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: it going all the way through. So what do you
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: like about Eric Hartman here in Atlanta?
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: Yeah, what I like about him is he's just always hit, Like,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: no matter where he's been, he's hit. I think part
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: of it is he's not the prototype like he's there's
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: those guys that look like the prototypical hitters, and I
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: don't think Cartman necessarily does. He just looks like a
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: guy that's going up there to swing crazy bat and
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: hope for the best, like and doesn't look overly athletic,
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: even though he is, like has a seventy grade speed.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: It just it doesn't pass the eye test necessarily. But
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: he's always always hit. And you said it, if if
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: this was the end of the season, line a guy
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: that had eighteen homer stole twenty nine bases, hitting three
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: to zero two, you'd be like, that was a great season.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: It's been sixty four games, and I hate that he
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: has done this. And so he is outplacing like the
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: rest of the minor leagues. But because he was like
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: this twentieth round pick that didn't have any hype, people
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: really aren't talking about him very much. Like, Yeah, certain
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: circles are starting to talk about him, and he's gonna
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: become a very very known quantity. But there's a ton
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: of upside here. It's even compying him is hard right
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: now because he has he has strong speed. I think
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: he's having a good power. The power's probably not the
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: whatever sixty homer pace he's on right now. But I
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: think this is a guy that is maybe a Laye
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Thomas or kind of comp or something like that, which
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: is gonna be a good average, above average speed, above
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: average homers. But like that's probably why the hype isn't
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: There's like, there's nothing, there's not anything that's just like
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: outlandish about this profile. It's just all above average across
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: the board. And if you're looking for high floor and
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: potential ceiling, it's here. That's everything's here.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: Yep. I think I think I'm right there with you.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: So I think another guy who's kind of in that
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: vein is Josiah Hartshorn from the Chicago Cubs corner infielder,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: corner outfielder, corner bat somewhere where switch hitter nineteen years old,
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: doesn't turn twenty until February, and was a sixth round
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: pick last year out of Orange County as a high
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: school prep bat, but also signed a two million dollars
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: signing bonus, so like that was to keep him from
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: going to college and really taking off. And he's really
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: shown everything that you've wanted from him across two levels
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: this year. Tore up Low A as a nineteen year
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: old with a one forty seven WRC plus, got promoted
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: and has put up twenty five games at High A
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: with a one fifty nine WRC plus. He got better
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: as he moved up the ladder. Came into the season
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: as a forty five overall rating from fangrass. A lot
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: of this, though, is because it's not a great glove,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: and it's going to be in a corner somewhere, probably
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: left field or first base, but that doesn't matter for fancying.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: This guy's also got a little bit of speed, but
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: I don't know if that's gonna stick as he moves
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: up the levels that it strikes me as a little
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: bit as like a taking advantage of the lower levels,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: But I think the bat is right there. Eighty plus
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: percent contact rate with a two ninety six average across
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: the two levels, thirteen homers, which I think is really
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: important because a lot of the ratings on Fangrass saw
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: the future growth in the power in the hit where
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: a fifty five hit tool in the future a fifty
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: game power in the future. But they came in as
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: thirties on the season, so I think that'll get updated
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: as well as the forty five. He probably gets bumped
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: to a fifty in the next rating for fan Grass,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: just because I think the bat's a little better even
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: they than they expected. So the other thing I like
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: here too is the comp is actually it's Ian Hap
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: for me, where and Ian Happ's contracts up at the
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: end of the year, and you know there's a chance
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: that Hartshorn shows up in Arizona next spring and just
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: takes left field for himself. So it might be a
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: little early because he'll only be twenty, but I think
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: that you're looking at a very solid two sixty ish
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: twenty five to thirty homers with a handful of steals
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: and great counting stats. When maybe I think this is
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: one where the hype is starting to come because the
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Cubs of it all. But I think that the output
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: in the floor is actually a little bit higher than
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: you would expect for a prep bat that was just
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: drafted last year. What do you think.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think of all the guys that we talked about,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: this is the one that kind of doesn't quite fit
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: the exact prototype that we talked about because he does
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: have one more car like the power is more of
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: a carrying tool for him. And so I think this
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: is one of the guys that you can project and
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: he could be a thirty thirty five homer bat. Probably
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: not gonna have as gread of an average as the
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: steels are gonna be there, that the glove is not
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: as much there, but like, he's gonna do enough and
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: he's a talent enough that those other pieces you are
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: gonna be average and okay, and then he's gonna have
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: some really great power. It's just a matter of does
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: that that raw power translates a game power and what
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: does that look like. It looks like it's translated. It
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: absolutely does. And I this is one of the few
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: when we kind of talk about things like I'm not
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: seeing things in the profile that it's like, oh, all
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: kinds of luck and things like this. He is a
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: flyball hitter. He's he makes loud contact, he doesn't walk
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: as much. He will take a few more of the
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: strikeouts and like that that player definitely plays, So I
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: don't I'm not buying him breaking the camp next year,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: but like, I think this is a guy we're talking
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: about at that time next year is a pretty solid prospect.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: I'm gonna say top forty prospect. I don't think it's
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: as high as some of some of the others, but
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: I think there's a lot to like here, and people
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: are sleeping on. He went in the sixth round and
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: they gave him a second round money. I think that
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: also kind of throws people off the sentence like that's
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: a this is a sixth rounder. He's performing well right now,
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: but you know he wasn't a like top round guy
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: that has that pedigree he was. People just didn't think
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: he was gonna sign, and so the Cubs threw a
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: lot of money at him and got him to sign.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: Yes, okay, last bat we have is well and this
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: is the most difficult one to pronounce, So bear with this.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: Huneker casseras so he is in the Cleveland Guardian system,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: an eighteen year old has been at high or low
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: a all season, but I mean high is coming soon.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: A three fifteen four h nine five ten slash line
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: over one hundred and seventy six played appearances. It's a
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: one to forty seven wic plus six homers six to
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: dolen bases, So I mean you can kind of tell
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: from that line pretty messianic bat. But he is eighteen,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: so we're still waiting on some of that power to come.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: But by all accounts, there should be a least average
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: game game power here in the bat, if not maybe
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: a tick above as we've seen some good performance of
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Cassras in low A so far. And this is a
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: guy where I've been on him since the offseason because
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: our friends over at Dynasty Baseball Pickups have We're really
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: in on the late season work that Cassras was doing
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: in his first taste of a ball last year as
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: at seventeen year old, and he's just carried that through.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: So I mean, I think this is a great young
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: age to level prospect where we know that the Cleveland
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Guardians get a lot out of this type of profile,
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: and what do you think he can be in the future.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: I mean, let's just call it like it is. The
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: system he's in here, this is Stephen Kwan that this
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: is what it is. A high grade hit guy with
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: enough power to make it happen a little bit of speed.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: That's that's what we have. I feel like, even from
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: like a maybe a physical stature perspective, I think we
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: might be in that range too. So I really do
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: think this is a very solid, solid player. I think
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: he's gonna be more a batting average play, which is
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: not something we see come out of the minors nearly
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: as much. But I think he's gonna do that, and
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: he's gonna do just enough in all those other categories
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: to really really be valuable. So I think it's it's
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: a solid, solid Stephen Kuan play with maybe a potential
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: for a little bit more if if I'm if I'm
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: projecting this one out.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's that's all very fair. So
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: it should be pretty cheap right now, So somebody to
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: add as he rises pretty quickly and should be getting
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: that call up to the next level soon. All right,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: let's put over to the mound and start looking at
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: some pictures. First one, this is the guy who was
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: alluding to in the beginning. He's been my favorite all year.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: We're talking Joseph Gerwi from the Baltimore Orioles has been
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: in double A now for five starts, but shredded high
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: a before that was a second round pick last year
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: out of Michigan State, six', eight two hundred on the, mound, lefty,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: nasty change, up nasty, stuff solid command where the grades
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: coming into the season where a thirty five sixty future
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: on the. COMMAND i think he's closer to the sixty
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: now THAN i think Maybe fangrass was ever expecting because
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: across two, levels he's put up thirteen starts across seventy
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: three and a third, innings which you also love to,
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: see like this dude is not being, babied like he
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: is making full blown grown man. Starts it's a two
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: thirty three air ra a two thirty FIVE, fip A
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: k MINUS bb of twenty five point five. Percent this
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Is Cole hamilsey for me that it is a really, great,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: solid left handed. PITCHER i don't think he's quite maybe
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: like AN ace in the big, leagues BUT i think
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: he's got the potential to get. THERE i projected more
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: as like a number two type of, pitcher BUT i
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: think this dude is ready to go just about, now
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: AND i think that there's a lot of opportunity In
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: baltimore in the back end of that. Rotation it's always
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: been a. Mess they've always been searching for an arm like,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: this AND i Think baltimore finally found somebody to solidify
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: everything after it's just been a mess development wise where,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: sure WHILE i think he didn't need too much tweaking
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: from when he had put up At Michigan state played
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: in a pretty solid uh, conference you, know especially since
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: they've ADDED usc AND ucla and performed well as a, senior,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: no not even a senior is his junior. Year So
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: i've been picking him drove up EVERYWHERE i. Can. Uh
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: what what do you see in this? Profile and are
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: you just as enamored AS i?
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Am, YEAH i MEAN i know If i'm as a
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: namored as because you're very. Enamored but there's a lot
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: to like, Here like this is a guy that has strikeout,
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: stuff good. Control just he's like very mature picture for
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: what he's worked through and so that's why he's kind
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: of flying through the. System LIKE I i look at
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: this as like a young Young Max freed is kind
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: of WHAT i see that lefty, presence that control that
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: we see from From freed and you, know honestly similar.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: Velocities freed's not as tall as Drew, off but the
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: that kind of repertoire is very very similar in the
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: kind of the results that they. Drive and, honestly even
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: the body, type even Though freed is a little bit uh,
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: shorter but like the, tall, lanky uh kind of, Guy
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: so you, know he he does feel like he's a
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: guy that has a potential to kindind of rise. Up
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: it's the questions when he gets, there how whole well
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: does this stuff stand? Up because he is going to
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: be overpowering where he's at in the, miners base on
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: his experience in. College SO i want to see him
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: get challenged a little bit. MORE i think the upside
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: there of the two. THREE i think right, now if
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: he threw in the, majors he's probably a four or
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: five right, now and SO i think there's a ton
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: of upside. Here BUT i think The baltimore has got
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: to kind of challenge him somewhat to give some adversion
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: because he really just hasn't had it at this point in.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: Time, YEAH i, MEAN i don't know if he's going
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: to run into it because he's been so. Untouchable so, like,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: YEAH i do really want to see them push him
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: fast and see if it can work in the big,
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: leagues BECAUSE i think it. Can LIKE i think it's
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: going to be really nasty, stuff and he might be
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: the answer to anchor that rotation in the big. Leagues,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: okay next arm that we have is going to Be
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: Bravelen dody from The Cleveland Guardian. SYSTEM i, mean everybody's
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: ears probably perked up right WHEN i Said pitcher in
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: The Cleveland guardian system because they know how to pump him.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: Out he he was a twenty twenty four comp a
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: pick thirty six overall out of high. School And, uh
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: he's been absolutely shredding high, a especially as turning a corner.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: Recently but in, total it's been fifty three and two
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: thirds innings over thirteen games, started a three thirty FIVE,
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: vra a three to zero THREE, fip and A k
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: MINUS bb of twenty four point one. Percent. Uh doesn't
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: have quite the big frame that we always. Love it's
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: six foot but is two, hundred SO i think it's
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: a little bit more of like A Parker messick build
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: from the right. Side but this system sometimes it feels
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: like they cook dudes, slowly but like they Moved Gavin
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: williams pretty quickly even though he was a college Arm
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: like he got up relatively fast after being, drafted you
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: turning around twenty twenty one to debuting in twenty twenty.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Three so If Braylan doty is on that, trajectory that
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: would put him for a major league debut probably this
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: time next. Year so everything's. Looked the RATINGS i think
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: are fantastic on. Fangrafts The command was holding him back
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: with a thirty five current sixty, future but the walk
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: rate has only been four point seven percent at at
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: high a THAT i think he's showing a little bit
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: more of that control and it should be at least
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: a four pitch. Mix and who knows with The cleveland,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: system so lots of great flashing positive signs. Here what
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: do you like About?
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: Dody, YEAH i MEAN i THINK i like the this
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: is definitely a high floor guy than necessarily a high ceiling,
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: guy great pitch. Mix the, big big question is how
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: well is that control in the command gonna really overall.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: Develop likes he's been able to hold his own from
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: really a walk, rate BUT i think he's just pitching
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: a against less talented players right, now so like he
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: doesn't have to nibble around the. Zone he doesn't have
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: to get. Credit he just throws his pretty gush darn
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: good fast hall and then his SECONDARY i think are still.
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: DEVELOPING i think they flashed some really great, potential but
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: can he use those in control when he needs versus
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: right now he's. Flying this is The Shane bieber type of,
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: thing flying through the miners of like great, control great,
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: strikeouts but he's doing it throwing a lot of fastballs
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: because he's just got better stuff than everybody. Else and
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: the question always With bieber when he came through is
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: like can he kind of turn that corner from a
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: guy that looks like he really had great? Control but
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: would the strikeouts come when they they maintain at the
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: major league, Level and clearly With Shane bieber at the
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: time he. Did maybe not the Current Shane bieber with
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: all the, injuries but you also think compared to like
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: A Zebbie Matthew matthews that came with The, twins which
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: had a similar, profile but he hasn't the stuff didn't
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: kind of transition so far as well to the. Majors
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: SO i like. IT i really think it comes down
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: to when he gets challenged with the command of that
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: secondary breaking. Stuff how does that play? Through but at this,
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: point when you're trying to project a twenty year old
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: and high A yep got to pick him. Up and
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: it's a, development development, game and there's not a better
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: organization for that development Than.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: Cleveland, Okay, well if you're not sure about a twenty
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: year old In, hyak how about an eighteen year old
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: in Hig. A as we Have Kendriy churio from The
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: Kansas City, royals one of the youngest age to level
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: players in the entire stretch of the minor. Leagues there
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: was a chance that like he could have burnt his
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: way through the minors and made it major league. DEBUT
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: i think this year if The royals needed him down the,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: STRETCH i don't think that's going to happen here in
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty. Six BUT i do think twenty seven is
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: on the table For. Churio he started the year at
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: SINGLE a tore it up a one eighty EIGHT era
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: over forty eight innings with a three to fifty FIVE
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: fip AND ak MINUS bb of eighteen point six. Percent
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: LIKE i, said that's eighteen years, old so the numbers
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: are maybe a little less, exciting but the aged, levels
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: very very. Good he absolutely crushed THE, dsl The Complex
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: league and LOW a last, year so tour through three
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: levels last year as a seventeen year. Old and the
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: profile here is honestly part of it is like you
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: got to see if it's going to work over the,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: workloads and it's good to see that he is making
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: regular outings and going you, know roughly five ish innings every.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Time right. Now you just want to keep him doing
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: that every week because it is a, smaller slighter frame
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: at six foot one. Sixty he's probably put on more
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: weight since the one, sixty but also so, young there
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: might be a little growth still left in his. Frame
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: and the control here has been absolutely. Fantastic is like
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: it is pinpoint command whenever you're reading reports About Kendri.
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: Charrio so what do you like about his?
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: Profile, YEAH i, MEAN i think this is one of
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: the you really have to use. Project this profile is
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: to your, point like really really good. Command he can
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: bring it up to like ninety eight and we're talking
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: about a guy to your, point the the build six
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: foot one sixty is what he's, Listed like you have
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: to think that that's gonna end up being like six
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: foot one ninety or something like, that and as he
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: bulks up as that on like that ninety eight becomes
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: one hundred and one oh, two like it can really
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: really amp. Up and, so, uh there's just a question
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: of as he gets challenged and he goes to those upper,
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: levels is he getting more spin on his fastball as
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: he is he able to have those. Secondaries but he
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: shows a lot more like he's an electric. Guy he
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: shows amazing. Tools it's just a matter of like this volatile,
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: profile like it could this could be absolute ace in the,
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: future or it could be lockdown. Closer like there's just
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: a there's a lot of variability. Here but when you're
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: looking at this kind of kind of early, early early career,
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: guy you you you're happy with whichever, outcome because it's
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: hard to not look at him as being a guy
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: that makes the majors in like two two and a
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: half years with an electric arm is like some of
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: these young guys have come, through like The schulitlers And
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: misrowski's and guys like that that just really really bring.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: It maybe Maybe Treya savage is a better comp from
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: those younger guys that don't have the depth in the
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: game BECAUSE i do think he's the guy that we're
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: gonna have to see if he can hold up the.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: Workload, yeah for, me it's a little bit more like
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: A Max, MEYER i, think where but he's also got
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: like a four year head start Because Max meyer was
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: a college draftee and so that just allows you to
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: maybe even find another gear of development Where, honestly it's
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: also Like Didya flentis for, me but Like i've always
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: been hugely high On Didya flentis, where LIKE i, Know
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: i've had conversations with some guys THAT i go on
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: a yearly trip to spring training with WHERE i, Mean i've, said,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Like Didya fuentis is in a little bit of like
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: The Pedro martinez realm of like when it's all, working
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: it can really really. Work AND i Think chario could get.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: There but CERTAINLY i think maybe the highest ceiling of
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: the guys that we've talked, about because just like who
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: knows where it's, at but also the lowest, floor because
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: who knows if he can actually make his way through
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: the minor leagues and stand up to the. Riggers but
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: if he, DOES i think because of the age to
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: level challenge and the command of his. Arsenal he could
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: be really special because he does have just a, natural
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: innate gift and ability to spout up the pitches whenever he,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: wants wherever he, Wants so a special, PITCHER i.
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: Think all.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Right last guy that we're gonna round it up with
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: Is Cayden, scarborough who actually he's gonna Be i'm writing
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: about him for my piece this week AT bp because
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: this was a guy THAT i was into big in the,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: offseason especially down the stretch last, year where this Is
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Trey Ye savage two point. Zero it's maybe not like
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: the nasty, splitter but he does have a pretty good change,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: up a dirty, slider a big old. Fastball he's also
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: six' five and has a pretty big, release height and
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: when you also watch him pitch it like you can
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: tell dudes are just intimidated by the size and the
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: overpowering fastball that he's blazing past them should be. Upper
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: nineties the nice advantage here is that he's only pitched
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: nineteen and a third innings across the complex in high
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: a because he was injured to start. The season but
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: this actually wasn't any sort of like arm issue or.
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Body issue he was out with a malignant melanoma that
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: he got removed and was recovering from on. His neck
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: so he's been absolutely SHREDDING. HI a i think he's
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: probably going to be IN double a as a twenty
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: one year old here. Pretty soon, and honestly if he's
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: got the arm stretched out where he's still stretching out
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: like he's almost like in spring training, still essentially if
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: he gets to, THAT point i mean there's a decent
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: chance he Does go Trey you savage on us and
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Enters That texas rangers rotation that Just Lost jack lighter
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Is Getting jordan montgomery, back maybe but like is really
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: struggling at the back end of, that Rotation and i'm
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: sure they would love to add Somebody Like, caden scarborough
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: who has FEATURED a K minus bb of over twenty
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: five percent across the past, two years with the strikeout
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: percentage ticking up towards one in. Every three, so yeah
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: you can Tell that i'm Enthused About. Kayden scarborough we've
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: talked about him before and it is not diminished from.
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: My end the Only thing i'll add Here is i'm
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: disappointed like he's In the, texas system like we talked,
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: about earlier. Like that that's the one aspect because they
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: they could call him up right now and then just
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: throw him to. The wolves they kind of did That
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: With kumar rocker a few, Years AGO like i could.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: See THAT so i really hope they give him a
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: little more time to DEVELOPED because i do think there's
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: a big. POWER arm i think there's a ton of. Potential,
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: here again a guy that, you know he just doesn't
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: have that many innings under, his BELT and i want
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: to see him. BE challenged i want to see some
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: adversary things. Like that, YOU know i look at a
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: guy Like seth rnandez who's, up NOW and I BELIEVE,
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: double a and he's had a little adverse in this
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: first few starts and then all of, a sudden he
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: just lights, Out AGAIN like i want them to give him.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: That opportunity and so to, Your point i'm hopeful that
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: he gets Up TO double a soon and gets a
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: little that adversity and then you see how. He reacts,
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: you know he's gonna have a game where he walks
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: like five guys and he's never done, that before and
- 1:30:20Speaker 2: then he bounces BACK like i think he's he is
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: this bulldog MENTALITY that i. Actually LOVE so I think
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: scarborough he's got, a bright. BRIGHT future i just wish
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: it Wasn't.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: In, TEXAS yeah I mean i'm also a little more
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: hopeful where the talent is so immense that he might just.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: Overcome it so that's something to Consider. With scarborough but
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: that's gonna wrap us up for. This week so hopefully
