Transcript
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to Three Yards Perkati, a podcast covering the Miami Dolphins and the NFL.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's your host, Chris, Alf, and Simon.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: And we're on, and this is three hours per carry.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_02]: The first of the year, the first podcast of the year, not the last of the season, we've still got a ways to go.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: We always do our last podcast of the season, the day after the Super Bowl.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_02]: And then we'll kick off our ninth season, nine years of doing this.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: Does it feel like nine years Simon?
- 0:42[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like nine two years.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, as always, it feels like we've done it for longer actually, but yeah, right.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_02]: Well, technically, technically we were doing a podcast in our in our DMs for, for like about 10 years.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_04]: We've known each other for, yeah.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, genuinely, must be, I'm Christian, I certainly.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, 30 years?
- 1:09[SPEAKER_04]: Something like that.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_03]: it's it's it's close to that it's pretty close to it because Simon and I Simon and I go go as far back as you know old Harold board stuff yeah and I think Keith I believe it turned out Keith are our our our doctor friend who's on the discord often quite controversial
- 1:33[SPEAKER_03]: He, he mentioned, I saw him mentioning not too long ago that I think he's known you Simon even longer than I have for me, but I think he was, he was on, I think you guys even predate that that Harold board, you know, to do a different place must be, must be at least that he is, I reckon.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I found every once in a while I get nostalgic and I started looking for old posts and I found one that When I got it when I got a chance, I'm gonna post it on on discord where I do this love line I do this long long like you know self-indulgence, you know,
- 2:18[SPEAKER_02]: They can't mess.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, just take either one and you're gonna be fine.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I can remember So I'm just trying to think of what's his name Talk on yourselves.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_04]: What was the tackle that we drafted in the second round at Mississippi state?
- 2:33[SPEAKER_04]: All the way Yeah, I can remember when was that he was selecting the 2000 draft so that's 26 years ago I can remember talking to Keith
- 2:45[SPEAKER_04]: in the immediate aftermath of that pic, because Keith's the Mississippi State alum.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_04]: That's at least 26 years.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_04]: God.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_04]: I can actually remember where I was standing when I heard that we draft them and Keith message me.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_04]: to say he was ready.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_04]: Good.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, it's, it's Keith just a spectacular quarterback of evaluator or just the hopeless Homer because he had deck press got that home run up to the draft.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: He was like, they're going to think like press cut.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: Take that press cut at all costs.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's a great.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_04]: He's a big drop guy, that.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_03]: You know, he's actually, and it's turned us into a key for the thing, but what he's really good is, one of the things that he's really good at is actually just kind of piecing things together and kind of predicting what's going to happen.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like who they're after, you know, and I mean, of course, we all know that all of us can kind of get entrenched in a certain opinion and like, you know,
- 3:52[SPEAKER_03]: You know, out of hand, but like he's really good at putting putting together that kind of mosaic on and just like yeah, this is leading toward this, you know, and and I think that that's that's something that that I appreciate about a lot of people.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and if you want to, and if you want to listen, if you want to read what he writes, and you want to interact with him, and you want to interact with us, although it's going to be really interesting once you show up there, and you join, and to do that, you go to discord.gg4, slash, only friends.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: You see right there on the screen.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: Do it on a desktop, avoid the Apple upcharges for 99 all access every month.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I suggest that when you sign up,
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: Talk to him about Mike McDaniel.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be a lot of fun.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: When you talk to him about Mike McDaniel.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_02]: Let's kick off the show and let's talk about the call of football playoff quarter final.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pretty sure we're going to pick the semi final next week.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: We'll just.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: with an eye to the draft for some of these guys and look I don't think we're going to talk too much about Texas tech Oregon I don't think Dante more play particularly well Texas tech I said it before when we were picking the game I was like man Morton just did not finish the season well and that offense was just putrid
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: organs really physical though that like the people look at those uniforms and they're a sleek looking team they have a you know an exciting quarterback and you think oh they must throw it all over the lot no no they're physical team like that's a physical football team they beat the hell out of Texas Tech I don't think we got too much on that uh you're talking about me in Russia
- 5:41[SPEAKER_04]: the Texas Tech Air Dressher.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, who David Bealey?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_04]: David Bealey, who is, I mean, he's pushing his way into the, I mean, he is.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_04]: Pop 5, maybe even at this point.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that the speed he gets off the ball and, you know, he was an off ball line backer, back at May today, the California kind of treadmill of, of great talent.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_04]: And yeah, he is a, he is a very, very good player and a much better run defender this year.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he looks like an all-rounder actually.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_04]: We have 70 pressures, 12 and a half sanctuary in the regular season.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_04]: He's out to me.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_04]: He's the best pure past Russia, you know, super traits.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_04]: He's long arms incredibly twitchy.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_04]: He can bend as we saw yesterday, you know, speed to power guy.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he's a really interesting guy.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_03]: And yet it was the it was the corner out of any that took over that took over the game basically on defense for Oregon I mean that that Oregon defensive line any teams that built in the trenches built while in the trenches I think you know they're they're showing up in these these playoff games right yeah, that's what we're talking about yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, my enemy Indiana you're built well in the trenches and I think Oregon.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_03]: is built well on the defensive line and they built well on the offensive line, I think too, but traditionally, but because it got DJU younger ladies brother, Mattio, who's right and you perform a five-stock eye that number nine guy in the club.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: In another three hundred and some odd pounder that has like a 36-inch vertical and you know, I forget his name.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, they've got us his name.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he's going to be a top 40 pick if he comes out.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_04]: The defensive tackle, he's named.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, defensive tackle.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_04]: Marry Washington.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_03]: Washington, I thought it was a Washington.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, and those guys were controlling the game.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_03]: And I thought that they were, I did think that they were going to have a bounce back from that, you know, they allowed Jam you to have to get 30 points on them.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: And that's, you know, this, this by-week thing.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know why it's a thing.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_03]: It shouldn't be, but it is.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_04]: There's only a room to play and then use to that kind of get to the end of the season, and then you'll have to wait around and use it as kind of, especially the last 10 years, and it's bold games, but not already plays on the cards, but don't play because if they're going to draw after whatever, you know, maybe it's just that kind of mentality thing, right?
- 8:02[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, India didn't seem to stop in the NES, they certainly.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_03]: No, I didn't have it, but that's the one.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_03]: That's the one team in eight.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's the thing that makes me grateful, though, and that's the, they aren't very much that kind of team.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: Now, to be fair, last year, they had two teams get buys just because they won their conferences like Boise State and those teams, they were underdogs as, as, as, as, okay, that's fair.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: As, by week guys, Ohio State was 24 days removed from
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: From their game against Indiana Miami was 21 days removed from their game again Again, it's Pittsburgh when they played Texas A&M.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: So You know, it's give or take, you know, it was around that three week period for most of these teams if they played in a in a conference title game If you didn't play in a conference title game, yeah, you were sitting around for a month
- 8:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, and I find that when the when these teams look when these and traditionally this is let's not speak about the playoffs, but going back when these teams have had a month, you know, until they get to their ball game, I often find that they're they look like a different team and they look more like the team that they're going to look like next year.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: All right, moving on, Indiana, Alabama.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: This was not a game, except for a brief moment in time there where they got a little bit of pressure on Fernando Mendoza.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: Man, that is such a well-coached team in Indiana is.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: He has that lifetime contract.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: If you're an NFL team, you got to look at the organization that that guy has built from nothing, legitimately nothing.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: That's a basketball school.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, that's a basketball school known for their their snappy basketball uniforms their national titles, they're final four runs football at Indiana.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: No, they don't do that.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they do now.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: If you're an NFL team like he has to be at the top of the list It's gonna take out you know somebody to break the bank because he just has the best job in America, but In the playoffs last year, didn't he?
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he did.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so so I mean like this is two years they made the playoffs now.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_03]: They're gonna
- 10:17[SPEAKER_03]: They're definitely in line to make that run at the championship.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, prior to what was the record the year before, you know, he took over.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it was, they were awful.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_03]: This is, it was, this is an overnight thing.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_03]: This is literally an overnight thing.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_03]: There were three and nine in 2023.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_03]: And then they went 11 and two last year to go to the playoffs.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_03]: in line from championship, in line from competing for it.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: Simon, you agree with me, right?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't hear it.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_04]: Somebody was knocking at my front door, so.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: So what I was saying is that Kirk's agnetti is probably the hardest coach that I've already right now in the, like if you're an NFL team, like that's who you want.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_04]: In all of the football, in all of the football, I mean, I think the coaching job he's done over the last few years is right up there with anything, anybody's maybe ever done in Coach Football.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_04]: I think, you know, it all,
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: But, I mean, to do what he's done for that with that theme, I mean, they just smashed Alabama, a perennial national champion, 38 to 3, and it wasn't even, it probably wasn't even as close as that, you know, I mean, that was phenomenal, I don't know whether or not
- 11:33[SPEAKER_04]: I mean he's I don't think he's for moving.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_04]: He signed the new contract when he signed the contract.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_04]: I think there's a significant amount of money that's now pouring through the Indiana coffers in terms of NIL.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_04]: I think they've got some pretty big financial backers.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_04]: But also, if you're a college quarterback or college player, you're looking around that team and you see, you know,
- 11:55[SPEAKER_04]: Diangelo Ponds and you see men dozer and you see you know Sirat and Omar Cooper Jr and Roman him being all those players that you're going to go into the NFL And you see a coach like Cignetti you just think you know if I'm in the port or why wouldn't I want to gun play for that coach Why wouldn't I want to go and you know, I don't think in the honor of going away any time so I think that's the most important thing I just don't I do wonder whether or not he's
- 12:19[SPEAKER_04]: slightly quirky style would drive with professional players.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you can't doubt the leadership and everything else, but I do wonder whether or not maybe that's a sticking point potentially, but of course the coaching job he's done is unbelievable.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think this is a really cool moment in college football in one way.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we lament a lot of the things that are changing in college football, right?
- 12:42[SPEAKER_03]: But there's this is a cool moment in college football in one way, which is that we're sort of seeing, you know, a topsy-turvy kind of turning upside down that happens when you create when you create a completely new dynamic and there is a completely new dynamic.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_03]: which is that basically if you know where to spend your money and how to spend your money and you're particularly good at that then you could rise fast like you know because Indiana it's not they're not they're not a broke school mark Cuban is backing their NIL
- 13:17[SPEAKER_03]: like, you know, is backing their NIL efforts.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, they're, they're able to pay players, they're able to pay Kurt Signetti, you know, and stuff like that.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_03]: So, um, but it's, it's one of those things where it used to be, you know, while the money was arguably under the table, if, if exist and at all,
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: It's just all about the reputation of the school and, you know, how well you recruit and sort of the the mystique around your program and things like that.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_03]: And now it's it's almost like professional.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's almost like the NFL.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_03]: If you know where to spend your resources and you know and you have an advantage that way, you could rise quick.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_03]: They're showing that they know that they have an advantage on knowing how and where to spend the resources.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_03]: And that has, that's the new dynamic in college football is knowing how and where to spend your resources.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_03]: And not just simply relying on the majesty of your program in the recruiting process.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and so it's a completely new dynamic and if you're the NFL, you would be eyeballing it because I'm going to pick off talent here.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I'm going to pick off guys that that know what they're doing.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_04]: But also, isn't it great that we're in this situation where we're in the final for there's any one SEC team, and that's not Alabama or Georgia.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_04]: It's only, you know, it's only.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's not any of that.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's testament to exactly that because Ole Miss doesn't have a lot of me.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_03]: That's why that's why I'm came from, you know, for an SEC team.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_03]: And they have some money, but, um, but they don't have, you know, they don't compete with like Florida.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_03]: LSU, as far as the money that pours into those programs.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, and they knew where to spend it.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Ole Miss, Ole Miss has a fair weather money because they spent a ton of money on that roster two years ago and then just said, well, we got no results, turn off the spigot.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and it doesn't work this way.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: You have to keep coming up with the budget every single year to get these guys.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_04]: When I was growing up, you know, getting into college football in the 80s and 90s.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_04]: You know, national championships were won by Penn State, Miami, Nebraska, BYU, Bama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Tech, Tennessee, B-Mart, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, you know, that's Florida State.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that's, you don't, you just don't get that anymore, and it's great to see a final fall with, you know.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_04]: You know, my only historically obviously a glamour team with a great history, but I've been in the doldrums for a decade or so.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_04]: Indiana obviously a complete newbie Ole Miss, as we're just discussed, you're not on the SEC sexy teams.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_04]: And then Oregon can't perennial, but you know, almost Oregon and the kind of the, um,
- 16:02[SPEAKER_04]: that the one non-sinder end story in all this, I think, you know, they're kind of just, they're there in the end of the most probably because they're history, but Miami obviously they return to greatness is, you know, that's a sinder end story and it feels like they're on a kind of a path of destiny and same with all this and many regards with what's happened with Lane Kiffin and Pete Golding coming in and doing that and it'd be interesting to see what happens with the semi-finals, will they allow, will they let us you let Golding?
- 16:25[SPEAKER_04]: and Charlie Wise Jr. coach now and what's going to happen there?
- 16:28[SPEAKER_04]: What's going to be a situation?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_03]: So I think it's a situation that's going to be akin to the major league baseball because there are still programs that you know either have money or not.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_03]: You know you don't have you have money.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_02]: There's news by the way, there's news on that.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_02]: Ole Miss would have to extend these coaches for this game because their contract runs out after the quarter final.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: So they're either going to play the
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: Are they going to have to pay those five coaches for this one game?
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, or I were far that they go.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: Ohio State Miami, obviously I'm partial to this.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was kind of crazy that there were 10.00 dogs when you could reasonably suggest that Miami has the better offensive line and the better defensive line.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: I go back to the ACC media day when my request was asked, what is the identity of your team?
- 17:20[SPEAKER_02]: And he said, well, last year, our star was Cam Ward.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_02]: This year, our star is our offensive line.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: And when he was on with Nick Sabin, Nick Sabin's like, Murray, what are you doing, bringing out goal line on third and three?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, we had a, I remember a coach that when they had this type of offensive line, would look at third and three as a two run down.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: situation.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: Oddly enough, Miami ran it on 33 and then they passed it on 4th and 2 to get to 1st down the mallet.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: But what did you make of that game?
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously you can see under my name.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm partial to one player in particular.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: I saw the whole season.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: I watched every single snap this team has played.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Ruben Bane, a key measured order.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_02]: They're great players.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_02]: against Scott has, look, if he didn't miss that big block of games toward the end of the year, I think he'd be being talked about as a top 50 prospect run along with those guys.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's in my eyes.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_02]: He's been the best, most consistent player.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like it splashed play after splashed play, big hit after big hit.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's a great player.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_02]: You're thoughts on this game, Simon.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I thought it was interesting when my request of I was talking.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_04]: before the game and in the run up about violence and how violent my morning we're going to be and I think it just came out and just did that.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_04]: I just thought was really interesting that the Ohio State for all their kind of defensive stars, reefs and styles and downs and guys that are going to be high first round picks.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_04]: and curry, the defensive end, the defensive tackle and what those guys, it was just like, they just couldn't match the intensity and I think it was Chris alluded to right at the top or maybe before we started that it's been fascinating to see the teams that have been able to dominate the trenches like Miami have.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_04]: We look at Mark L. Bell, left tackle of Maurinera, right
- 19:15[SPEAKER_04]: those are absolute cornerstones for it for a team and when you can add in a Manakai Tony and a Mark Fletcher who's been brilliant and you know Carson Beck who does what you ask of him to do and and key on taste score and some of those players on the back end that's kind of what you need and
- 19:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I thought Miami would just just more physically dominant and just the better team and Julian saying just played, you know, we've said this a lot, but he played small in a big moment.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_04]: That was an uncomfortable game for him and it was uncomfortable and I think Ryan Days an absolute helmet, so I was glad that my only one, but yeah, I got the absolute deserve to win so yeah.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, Jeremiah Smith is Eandry Johnson or Hullio Jones.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he's, I mean, he's a top five picnic.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: He was terrified.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_02]: He was one man against my team, and I was just terrified like, are we gonna lose to this one guy?
- 20:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it was a shank on.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_04]: I was hate in play as well as, you know, I mean, I think it doesn't take it away from his talent, but yeah.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_03]: I thought it was crazy that after the, after the, you know, they're asking Jeremiah Smith, you know, if Miami had been playing like this, would you have signed with Miami instead of Iowa State?
- 20:22[SPEAKER_03]: And he was like, yeah.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, like you just said it all right, I'm like you're not supposed to even say that by the way, the background on that is that he's burned Miami to go to Ohio state like Miami was all in on recruiting Jeremiah Smith and he said, nah, I'm good.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'll go to Ohio state.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_03]: like he was he was classy about it.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, just come right out and say, yeah, Miami had been playing like this when during the recruiting process.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I would have gone with them over Ohio State.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like you play for Ohio State, man, you're not supposed to say that.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: uh uh so you have anything on the on the players Chris now that you get to see them up close no i mean keyhontage got as always um as always popped out at me uh sunny stars as always popped out at me you know i mean there's there's there's there's a massive players on both sides yeah sunny stars by the way stat on that game he had his first mistackle of the season in that game on a Mark Fletcher run first mistackle
- 21:31[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think the the trenches go down the violence of that defense got it done.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_04]: We've got an update on uh, we talked about in the discord about Brendan saws being Miami.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_04]: He has got two of his lined up.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, Peter Miller is doing two visits lined up.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_04]: Where are they?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah, I think that's Miami is one and the other.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_04]: Texas Tech and Texas Tech and LSU.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_03]: LSU.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_04]: That's interesting.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_04]: It makes me think that Trinidad Chambers will not get that six year of eligibility.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_02]: Because I think that he would follow Kiffin and Texas Tech is his coach, right?
- 22:12[SPEAKER_03]: That's yeah.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_03]: And Indiana, Indiana just recruited Josh Hoover, the quarterback of the year.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, when that sets up to me is, who was a good quarterback?
- 22:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think
- 22:26[SPEAKER_03]: Um, but I think it sets up like kind of a valid competition between Alberto, um, and those, uh, and, uh, and, and Joshua.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: And by the way, Barry Jackson has reported that Miami has already made, it's offer to Brendan Sorsby, which if, if you put two and two together, uh, the people that know said that they were preparing the same package that they prepared for Carson Beck, so it's four million dollars.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: That is what they're going to offer Brendan Sorsby.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_03]: And if they don't think want to see how it
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: If they don't get Brendan Sorsby, I think that they'll have it pretty hard to same level.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: And that would be, they'll make two years that they settle for their second choice.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_04]: Levitt seems to be going to Kentucky, according to the transfer portal as a no contact.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, do not contact, which makes it seem like he has, he hasn't steamed.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, on three of saying it can tuck here hot favorites or some level, but yeah, when they ever do not contact tag that is that is interesting.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_02]: Last game, Georgia Ole Miss, and then we'll go to break and we'll actually talk a little dolphins.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: I was actually really surprised by this game.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: I thought Georgia was the best team I saw all season, and that game just got away from them.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: Their defense just couldn't stop the passing game of Ole Miss.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: And what a finish to that game.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: What a furious comeback by Georgia toward the end
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: The rare, really good, and a full quality kicker wins it for Ole Miss.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: Your thoughts on this game and the players coming out of this game.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I thought it was a, I thought it was an outstanding, yeah, I didn't stay up and watch it, but watch it about this morning.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_04]: And yeah, I really wanted Ole Miss to win actually.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_04]: I think Georgia got lots of really good players, but for the reasons that we talked about ten minutes ago is great to see, you know, newcomers as it were into these, um, into these, into these games, into these, this semi final.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_04]: And I think they've got some really good players.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_04]: You know, look at Trinidad and Champions we've talked about.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_04]: I know that he has been trying to get a six year eligibility.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_04]: He was a four years at first, a year Ole Miss, but he missed a season because he had a test of like breathing problems, then can 2022 and he also has a COVID year as well, so it would give him six years.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_04]: He applied to the NCAA, and they came back to London to some of the eighth, so they weren't inclined to offer him the extra year, but could he provide more information.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_04]: Now I know that he hired a lawyer in the attorney, as late as December 22nd, and was speaking to the NCAA and petitioning for a channelist to get that extra year, because they claimed that it would be stopping him from earning money.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's the first round pick.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_04]: It wouldn't surprise me for team.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_04]: that was comfortable in their own skin, kind of dipped into the back end of around one maybe, but I think you'll come in at Under Sick, but it's all, he's athletic, he's tough, and he played really well.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_04]: There's some really good black luck.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_04]: I love the guy I had the big sack, sunscreen perkins, the sort of edge overhang line, battery, he's like six foot, three, but two hundred and ten pounds, I don't know where you play him, but he's so fast and to Sean Stribbling, who's the big wide receiver, who had the
- 25:43[SPEAKER_04]: the people, the 40 yard of down the sideline, a really good player, and I thought to be fair to the channel, I thought his ball placement was excellent as well, so just some good players there, Georgia obviously have really good players, CJ Allen, and they didn't ever on the back end of school, the touchdown, so there's big guys on both lines, but
- 26:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I was just glad to open this one actually and it was, yeah, it was nice seeing it.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_04]: It was kind of, watching it back this morning just thinking, you know, can you for Lane Kiffin stores watching all this?
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think that Lane Kiffin checked his balance on his phone.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: As soon as midnight hit and suddenly he was like, go ribs.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be more to life in cash though, you know?
- 26:31[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, I mean, I'm sorry.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure he's happy for some of those players and some of those assistant coaches and stuff.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_03]: But no, I think you bring up Alfie brought up something in the question about the, you know, the kicker pro level kind of kicker that's able to win it and it's just it brings to my something that's been kicking around in my head for a couple months actually, which is that there's probably an unrecognized opportunity here for the NFL.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_03]: with respect to kickers because we all know that we've seen the cable changes in the NFL this year seems like it's taken the 50 you know the 56 yarder is now the equivalent of the old 49 yarder or something like that, you know, like it's it's
- 27:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's there's there's been a radical change in the NFL on two fronts with the kickers the first being the cable is now being able to be treated by the team and whatever way they want to and it extends those kickers ranges and you got guys kicking ridiculous lengthy field goals in the NFL this year.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_03]: we've seen that.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_03]: The other thing is the radical changes that kick off.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_03]: We know now that the touch back is at the 35, we're two years into this new kick off format.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_03]: But we're also seeing the sort of the dirty ball kick, you know, separate as far as field position goes.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_03]: The teams that are able to do it are really are having field position basically 10 yards different from from other teams.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_03]: You know, average at the 25 instead of average at the 35, something like that, you know, that's a big difference.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_03]: And what it brings to my mind is, you know, if you think about, if you think about it on two sides of things, if you think about on the kick off side, the dirty ball, if I can buy myself 5, 6, 7, even 10 yards of field position battle.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_03]: because I have a dirty ball kicker who's who's good at it, you know, and and therefore I go, and then on the other side of things, I can now kick field goals basically, if we get to your 45 yard line, you know, like like just the, the, the,
- 28:47[SPEAKER_03]: If you add that up as far as field position goes and call it 15 yards or something like that, do you know how many millions of dollars a team would spend on extra defensive talent or offensive talent if they felt that it could make 15 yards of average field position for, you know,
- 29:08[SPEAKER_03]: per drive almost, you know, difference, or at least paired drives.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_03]: They would spend an inordinate amount of money to get that sort of advantage on offense or defense.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_03]: And so it leads me to believe that there's going to be kickers out there that if they're so good that they can do both of those things, then kick a really good dirty ball and 60 yards is in their range, you know?
- 29:36[SPEAKER_03]: Those guys could go in the first round.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, those guys could go this the old Sebastian Yannickowski went in the first round thing and obviously that was way before it's time.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_03]: But you know that this we could be looking at that sort of advantage tied to a kicker's skill set.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm the one on here that's, I don't even want to talk about careers.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to talk about pumpers and shit like that.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: You know, but now we're forced to.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's a real avenue, and I think for a while, people aren't going to recognize that the value of the position has changed in that way.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: And so if you're a team that's really good at finding those, I don't know, those rugby style kickers or whatever, going all over the world.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_03]: to find which is now happening.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_04]: We're seeing that out of the two, you know, the kicking sports in Australia, obviously with Aussie rules and stuff.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_04]: But you see, the kickers in Ireland now, there's a couple in the NFL.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_04]: Now there's the guy that's on the practice squad at the Giants, but the kid that's trying to make it just this.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_04]: And by the, by the Saints who just blew the 60 yard of the day, he was a good one.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_03]: If you can find it, it's a new frontier.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's a new frontier in front office work.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_03]: in personnel and personnel and it's kind of any time a new frontier opens off it's kind of exciting and kind of interesting but but I think like you know listen if you want if you want to end up being a good team and it's like well why they end up being a good team you know it's because you find these edges in these new frontiers that is one that is opened up and it's interesting because Miami is going to go through and we'll pivot to this in a second half of the show
- 31:17[SPEAKER_03]: the GM search.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: Like this is exactly what we're now about to hire.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_03]: And so if I were on that committee, I want to hear about that.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: And by the way, and by the way, in a year's time, we're going to test all of this because Brendan Aubrey's going to be a free agent.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: So then I'm going to let him hit the uh when you can when you what is the franchise tag for a kicker because I think he's the rare guy that will get franchise tag then be completely pissed off about it.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_04]: When you when you can put your
- 31:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, to midfield, you're in field garage.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_04]: That is, and when you start, when the book, when you start at the 30, you've literally got 20 yards and you got three points.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly right exactly right.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_03]: It's changed.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_03]: And by the way, it's changing all the sense of stats.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I know Chris was alluding to being a smart front office and having, you know, forward looking, you know, forward thinking people and really smart people.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_02]: That was the dumbest evaluation of all time because there is no difference in kicking
- 32:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's still a snap at seven yards back from from from the the center and they still rush you the same way and the uprights are the same dimensions and Brandon Aubrey was an absolute weapon in so why why you didn't have 32 teams saying oh we need this guy and it was just the cowboys that said you know what this guy that keeps kicking 60 yarders in the UFL
- 32:42[SPEAKER_03]: Ah, why not, you know, relevant to us though, because we're sitting here talking about Riley Patterson, who neither he does neither of those things.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't do the dirty ball well, we didn't we talked about that on various points of the season out, and he doesn't kick the long ones, you know, he's he's good, you know, in the the traditional kicker range, right, but he doesn't do either of those things.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_04]: So to me, like he doesn't.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so to me, you don't pay him anything.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you may get away with it because specifically, because I want to kick or that's practically free in my salary structure, if that's what you decide to do, okay?
- 33:21[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, that's, he's not either of those things.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_04]: The thing about Lucas Canterra, the old Miss Kicca last night, I mean, he's missed four field goals in three seasons.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_04]: He's never missed an extra point, never missed from 50 plus, which is astonishing.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_04]: And yes, they've been doing it in life.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_04]: But never missed from 50 plus.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_04]: And yesterday he booted a 56, a 55 yarder, and then a 47 yarder to win the game.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_04]: And just looking at his numbers of season, he kicked a 54 yarder against Tulane.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_04]: you get to 56 yards against Georgia, but then when it was at Western Kentucky, the season before that, or the seasons before that, if you just look at it is 2024 season, and when he kicked 54 yards at 51 yards at 53 yards at 54 yards at 54 yards at in like what seven games or over so.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, what's the what's the rules in the NFL or maybe nobody knows, but the rules in the end of or sorry the college, you know, because the cable change in the NFL was that for for now, the now the kicker kicking ball is allowed to be treated like any other ball.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_03]: There's no people being a charge of its preparation.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you can you can essentially use any game ball.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_02]: There are no any games and the teams and the teams control the ball.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like yeah, like UM has an equipment room and for that game, that game tonight to go, they took their balls.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: So it's translated from college to the NFL.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: That's the situation they're the same now.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you come on the plane to the festival and Arizona will travel with their footballs for the game.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: So, all right, we're going to go to break and when we come back, we're going to talk about the GM search and try to make one.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: Why, Troy, when you will see why, but first, underdog football season is in full swing.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_02]: We have the college football playoffs also headed to the semi final, they're on there as well.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: And underdogs the best place to get in on all the action.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_02]: Playing on underdog is easy, just pick whether your favorite player will go higher or lower on stats like touchdowns, receiving yards, interceptions, and more.

- 35:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now is the best time to get in the game.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_02]: As far as this weekend's game, you got to figure a general right's going to get the ball.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if Devon HN has much of a shot.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: uh to play since he didn't practice today.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_02]: Although Mike McDaniel was being cage used like, oh, you know, I've seen players play while not practicing on a Friday.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_02]: Never happened in his tenure as as head coach.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: So we shall see on Devon HN.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_02]: So just keep dealing right in mind.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: He had a good game against doing when last year in Foxborough.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_02]: So download the underdog app today and use the promo code three yards to score 75 dollars in bonus entries when you play

- 36:20[SPEAKER_02]: Underdog.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: Make picks when my team plus 19 plus an Alabama in Nebraska.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: 19 plus in Colorado for some games.

- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: And we are back.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_02]: All right Simon.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_02]: They're hired truckman.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_02]: to do what well he's he's going to be kind of in a committee of damn arena with uh... branch short quarterbacking the whole thing although cam wolf his report that he put out there saying that brand insurance quarterback in the whole thing mysteriously disappeared off a twitter this morning not a coincidence yes so who knows what that's about
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: But Troy Eggman, new eyes, and I'm kind of for it because, and I'll tell you why.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: I've been to, I covered a couple of preseason games.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_02]: One where it was between Miami and Jacksonville here in Miami with Troy, when doing the game for Monday night football.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_02]: And you could see the, the cloud and the connections that Troy Eggman has.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like he was walking into the scout room and talk to pretty much everybody, including Martin Allen and Chris Greer.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: So he's well connected.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and he's well connected.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_02]: And this is what we talked about for a while.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_02]: This team needs new eyes, new eyes to just look at this whole thing and say, no, you're actually wrong about this, or yes, you're right about this, or you know what, maybe you should do this.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: Now do the listen to him.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's another thing.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_02]: But your thoughts
- 38:19[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, two things.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_04]: One is that, look, I think like just said new eyes, new ears is a really good thing.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_04]: My one fear about this coaching search is just going to get the GM search and the coaching search that happens is just going to be conductive by the same people.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_04]: It's the same people that have just been getting it wrong for 25 years.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_04]: That makes no sense.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_04]: The one caveat is that it's kind of unusual to bring in a guy, was zero front office experience to hire front office people, but eight men doesn't know a lot.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_04]: And it doesn't know a lot of people.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_04]: The one thing I would say is that Daniel in the last 20 minutes while we've been on there, it's just been asked about eight men's big criticism on Monday night football against the seat.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_04]: There's about no Daniel.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and I don't always say it's because it's in front of me, but David Frohn is asked him.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_04]: I wonder if I just might hold my microphone to the speaker and we can just play it and hear what McDonald actually asked to say, because it's probably quite well.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's our, I saw some, I saw some, I saw some.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_04]: I'll give you, okay, cool.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: He's his, his, his mad mad.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_03]: I've waited in my opinion, well, he didn't show it, I mean, of course he did the mechanical thing, he's a very politics and mortality kind of, you know, responses.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_03]: But I don't think the body language was good.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not here in it.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm not here in it.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not here in it.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_03]: I think, you know, just on that, Simon, if you don't know if you wanted to go on, but yeah, and then like his, the one thing, it's sort of like when you're asked about Drake and coming on and helping with the GM thing and your response is basically you start with kind of a
- 40:08[SPEAKER_03]: Um, it's sort of like finding reasons why it's not bad.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_03]: You know, means that, you know, back there, the immediate assumption is it's bad.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_03]: The immediate assumption is it's bad.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_03]: And let me, let me try and find the reason that it's not bad.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like, and it's sort of like, and that's, that's the way it came off to me is is Mike McKinney.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_03]: And I think he knows that.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_03]: Eggman.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_03]: Listerton on on the Monday night football for an hour, but she did.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_03]: He did and so, you know, he's probably got to have some feelings about that, but I mean, I'll go on.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_03]: I'll go on about it because I have some thoughts, but you know, Simon, do you have your favorite.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so the one thing that I'll say about this is the cam will report like I take it down.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_03]: Um, was way more important to me than this revelation about Drake.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_03]: And to me, Troy, I mean, it's just you said it all.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: He's got connections.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: He's an outside voice to me.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think of it at like executives on a board and things like that in my world.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_03]: And we have outside representation on boards and it's viewed as a good thing from an ESG standpoint.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's it's always viewed as a as a positive thing.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_03]: You need those outside voices.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_03]: It is interesting.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't have front office experience.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_03]: But it's a lot like sort of like like Lewis Ridic.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_03]: In terms of, you know, for six years now people have been talking about Troy Ackman.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_03]: Joining a front office like, you know, being a being a general manager after his broadcast career is done.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_03]: So he's interested in this.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_03]: I'm told that this is him dipping his toe in the water That no you should not expect that he's gonna take a position with the Miami dolphins at the end of this thing No, he's he's not pulling a dick Cheney and and saying well the most qualified GM is me You know like You know that this is that that is not happening.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_03]: He's not ready because he's not ready for that He's not he's not doing that way the dolphins had their own dick Cheney situation with Joe Bailey if you remember
- 42:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and actually, I think my cannon bomb kind of did that a little bit too, but anyway, I'm told that no, this is not, this is not what that's looking like.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_03]: However, you know, connections being made and impressions are being made and sometime down the road of for achements up in Miami and with Steve Ross and some capacity, it wouldn't exactly be a shock.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_03]: because that's how Steve Ross is operating in the past.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just told it's not happening right now.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_03]: The more important thing was that Cam Wolf talked about Brandon Shore quarterbacking the GM.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_03]: interviews cycle.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_03]: He talked about, you know, Steve Ross being the guy who will make the decision on Mike McDonough, Steve Ross, no other being the guy who will make the decision on Mike McDonough and that he really likes Mike McDonough and he's trying to find reasons to keep Mike McDonough as opposed to
- 43:05[SPEAKER_03]: reasons to dismiss Mike McDaniel, and I think that this is coming off like a very poor look for perspective GM candidates, and it's going to affect that search because if you're a GM candidate and you're looking at first off, let's keep in mind if you're a GM person and perspective candidate, you only get one shot, right?
- 43:26[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to you're going to take a GM job somewhere if you fail at it.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: You're not going to get another shot.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe it happened.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_03]: But overall, no, you can one shot in your whole life, right?
- 43:36[SPEAKER_03]: So you're going to be selective about this.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_03]: And and how it looks right now is the Miami Dolphins are have already decided on to a tongue of our law.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_03]: So they've already decided on the franchise quarterback situation.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_03]: They, you know, the Mike McDaniel question is not in your hands.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's in Steve Ross's hand.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, whatever happens there happens, this is all per the camel for for like that that got taken down.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_03]: And also there is now an entrenched in empowered caps and contracts guy who answers to Steve Ross and will basically and is the man that's hiring you, by the way.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_03]: isn't the man that quarterback the interview cycle and was instrumental in hiring you and so he's basically going to hand you a budget sheet that lets you know how much you're allowed to spend on what you know and at that point you're looking as a perspective GM candidate and you're saying this is a GM a name only job.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_03]: You know, this is this is this is you're putting all the decision making not only are you putting all the decision making around me to just have me stay in my lane as basically a glorified director of scouting.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_03]: but you're also developing a habit of taking the decisions out of my hands.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_03]: The quarterback decisions not in my hands.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_03]: Hell, you took the jail and Phillips decision out of my hands, a number of, a number of months ago.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the head coach position is not, is out of my hands.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's a very poor look for a perspective GM and if that is the way and so Naomi, I'm not surprised Miami has to really control the and manage the message here because if that's how it looks, they're going to get another Dennis Hickey.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_03]: They're going to get a guy who is basically in line for a director position somewhere in the NFL, not really a GM position.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the way it's going to go.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think the dolphins have to be really careful here.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_03]: And that's why I think that they kind of clarified with through Barry Jackson.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_03]: And said, you know, this is all Steve Ross.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's, you know, yeah, Brandon Shore is going to be involved in the process.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_03]: Dan Marina is going to be involved in the process, Drake, means going to be involved in the, you know, whatever.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_03]: I think they have to be so careful because they're, they're starting to paint a picture of a GM and name only kind of situation.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_03]: And that will turn off the better qualified GM prospects out there.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: Trust me, it will.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: In that story, there was something that like set off alarm bells in my head when they said they wanted a guy with a strong scouting background.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: Essentially they're rigging this thing for it to be re-ag new.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's that's what they're going to do.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to hire re-ag new.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_02]: And look, you could today is January the second at 124 p.m.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_02]: bookmark this.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: They're hiring a re-agony.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: They're essentially telling you what they want.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_02]: They've already made up their mind before they've actually done anything.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_02]: Now, if you, like, let's say they do hire a re-agony to be the general manager, right?
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: And Brandon Shores is going to be in some type of ZAR position above him.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_02]: And Champ Kelly is going to be recommended for one of the director spots, probably pro personal.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_02]: We're back to square one, where we have another committee.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_02]: We have a thousand people in the room trying to make one decision.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to get back to all these compromises that we had before.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_02]: And that's when you fail when most of them are already here else.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_03]: most of them were already here.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_03]: And what are we complaining about?
- 47:11[SPEAKER_03]: We need clean sweep, we need outside voices, we need outside eyes.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: Or at least sing you their leadership, sing your leadership.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could have Brandon Shor at the top as as a ZAR.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_02]: Personally, I would like him to be just, you know, you handle contracts in the salary cap, because you're actually pretty decent at that.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_02]: You're one of the people that wrote part of the the CBA.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_02]: So it stands the reason you know what the hell you're doing.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: But singular leadership, you know, scouts below the general manager have the general manager set the direction, not have essentially two general managers, you know, but we're getting back to a Brian Flores did four years ago with three offensive coordinators.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_04]: We absolutely sure we've not hired him to make a call back.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure they can, yeah, but yeah, hey, hey, but like the rumors, the rumors wasn't embarrassing at all, so no, they can't maintain your shoulders, so yeah, what point is somebody that will McClay become front and center of this conversation Because you know, eight men's gonna obviously know him really well and would be a hell of a candidate if he does decide to leave Dallas
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that maybe their plan is then it maybe they've already made up their mind and I'm thinking Ray Agnew it maybe they're thinking that and they're like you know what we hire a quinn He's gonna massage the process toward this one guy, which is the one that we want
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: And in the story, maybe that's it.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_04]: We got back in a little bit.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_04]: Picks, you know, 2WRZA Jordan Lewis Xavier Woods, Noah Brown, Van Deresh, Connor Williams, Michael Gallup, Dorans Armstrong, Goat and Schultz, Cedric Wilson, Donovan Wilson, Tony Pollard, Tristan Hill.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_04]: Connor McGuven, CD-Lam, Trayvon Diggs, Tyler Biedash, Israel McQuarmer, Naseon Rye's just a massive season, a Digi-Zua, Micaparsons, Domone Clark, Doron Blan, Jake Ferguson, Sam Williams, Tyler Smith, I mean that's just until 2022.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_04]: Do you know what I mean?
- 49:18[SPEAKER_04]: I mean there's some serious names there that he's drafted.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know,
- 49:24[SPEAKER_03]: If you want my really, you know, far out there conspiracy theory, um, the most far out there that I'm willing to go, uh, it's, you know, I know that there's, there's a relationship between Troy,
- 49:43[SPEAKER_03]: really like Jason Garrett.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_03]: They respect him.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_03]: There's even a relationship, I believe, with Dan Marino there.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_03]: But I put this to a source and I didn't necessarily get any kind of yay or nay on it or anything like that.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_03]: But what if this is essentially what if they've already been talking to Jason Garrett about taking the head coach job of the dolphins over for Mike
- 50:12[SPEAKER_03]: experienced head coach.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_03]: I know nobody's going to be excited about that.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_03]: In fact, most of the fan base would probably off themselves about it, but I mean, like, I think that, um, I think that what if what if free supposing that they had been talking to Jason Garrett and, um, and knowing that these site hiring cycles have to happen simultaneously, right?
- 50:31[SPEAKER_03]: The GM hiring cycles happening.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_03]: You know, as soon as the season is over, the head coach hiring cycle would have to happen and you can't just hire Jason Garrett you got to go through all these interviews you got to go through minority interviews you got to go through everything these are happening simultaneously, but Jason Garrett would want to have some say over the GM right he would want to have some some kind of, you know, his hand in that what if Troy eight minutes is friend and representative on the GM hiring committee.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_03]: to try and screen through GM candidates who are most aligned with Garrett's vision or something like that.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_03]: That's probably the most far out I'm willing to go.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not saying that's actually what's happening.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, I could kind of see it.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_03]: It would put some pieces together as for well, why tray equipment?
- 51:19[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what relationship did you have with tray equipment that that all sudden put him on to in this position?
- 51:26[SPEAKER_03]: Um, is, you know, yeah, I think that if if they were already decided that way and like, you know, hey, Jason, we want you to take over for Mike McDaniel.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_03]: Jason would be like, well, I want to have some say in the GM thing, but I can't literally be on that committee while we're going through a hiring cycle to hire me, right?
- 51:48[SPEAKER_03]: So maybe we'll just plant my friend on it.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: you know, maybe we'll plant and plant, plant, Troy, Eggman on it, and he can screen for guys that are that are going to reflect my vision.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's, it's probably not, but, you know, it is possible.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just don't like that they already came on and said, Oh, you know, we need a guy with a strong scouting background.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_03]: That was Pelacero too, so that's pretty strong.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_04]: That's a pretty strong thing.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_04]: I hope they wouldn't say, and it was the first thing they said.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_03]: which is what yeah well that that that we want to go with a strong scouting background that was the thing I hope that they wouldn't say because yeah me is not what they need and that's the first thing that comes out is like I would almost like I would almost like brand-in-shore as the ZAR and then you've hired the general manager because what we want we want new like brand-in-shore I'm sorry I like brand-in-shore but brand-in-shore has grown up
- 52:49[SPEAKER_03]: He has grown up with this idea.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he has grown up with this mediocrity.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_03]: You know, yeah, I think he probably knows what he's doing about caps and contracts and being able to model things and being a financial guy.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_03]: But he is the definition of not outside voice, right?
- 53:08[SPEAKER_03]: And to have a situation where we're like, yeah,
- 53:11[SPEAKER_03]: we need to start new, we're getting rid of Chris Greer, we're getting rid of Adam Engroff, we're getting rid of all the guys that we got rid of at the top of the scouting thing.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_03]: But in their place, we're empowering somebody who is incredibly endemic to the Miami problems over the last decades.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_03]: And he's empowered to hand the general manager, a budget sheet that lets him know what he's allowed to spend on quarterback, what he's allowed to spend on these position, this unit, this light, and strategically,
- 53:47[SPEAKER_03]: how much debt we're willing to go into and stuff like that.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_03]: Trust me, the person who makes that decision is de facto in charge of the fortunes of the franchise because those decisions are that important.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, no, I don't think he's going to be as are though, I think that that's, I think it's a completely separate line.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think this guy answers to Steve Ross and he develops the budgets and the tactical resource allocation.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_03]: shops for the groceries.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_03]: But he's handed a sheet of what he's allowed to pay.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like that's that's I think what what it could what could happen.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I just think that you're not going to attract top GM talent if you do that if you if that's the way you present it.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_02]: You're not and once you're cutting once you're cutting the entire pool and half by saying strong scouting background.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're doing, you're making all the same mistakes again, like you should be open to all of it.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_03]: All of it.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, I would hire anybody.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_02]: I would hire, you know, you never know.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_03]: Like, so react and who has the best strategic vision for all the dolphins should be going forward.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_02]: If he, if he wins the job, he wins the job.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_02]: But if not, you're basically saying, yeah, we won't react me.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_03]: That's what you're saying, you know, or maybe camp Kelly's keeping the top because and it's kind of a red flag a ray Agnew has not even gotten a GM interview by now and he's been in a position for a while to get those GM interviews Yeah, he's been next forever.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's been in he's been next forever.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_02]: Is that is that not a red flag?
- 55:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and by the way, ray Agnew you know where he got to start from
- 55:23[SPEAKER_02]: very similar to Chris Greer for New England.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_02]: So he's from that tree once again.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, that's where they're starting.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_02]: I guess they'll get going pretty quickly.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_02]: I guess after after Sunday's game, we're going to get some clarity on who the head coach is going to be.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it's Mike McDaniel, maybe it's somebody else, if it's somebody else, I wonder how they're going to conduct two searches.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm thinking that this thing is kind of rigged already for Mike McDaniel to be here a year.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_02]: At least.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_03]: I'm questioning that now.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_03]: Here's the questioning.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: His body language looked different.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_02]: in his availability this week, his body language has looked different.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like he looks like a different person than he was pre-Stealer's game.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think that Stealer's game was, not only his biggest failure here as a head coach, I think he had deep down in sight.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, yep, I think I fucked up.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think I fucked up with this game.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_02]: He could have bought himself a year with a win against the Stealer's.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_02]: Because I would have erased a ton of narratives.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's get to this game a little bit here
- 56:33[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, it's Drake May going for his MVP.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man, I didn't think it was possible.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_02]: And the touchdown disparity is still pretty big.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's over 10, 10 touchdowns for my family.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_04]: Or if you are being running touchdowns.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_02]: Right, it's a lot closer and Drake may as far as the schedule.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you could talk about the schedule.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_02]: He plays the schedule he's given and he won 13 games, you know?
- 56:56[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, you went 13 games.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care what schedule you're given.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_02]: That means something.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes a massage schedule gets you 11 wins and you're like, ah, you start puffing your chest.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_02]: You're like, I'm at the vision champion.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_02]: I want to love in games.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, he played a bunch of nobody's.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you don't get there.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_02]: Look, they've been to playoff teams.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_02]: The two playoff teams they, they beat, they needed those games.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: Both of those games.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_02]: I love the way Drake may has played this season.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's on schedule.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_02]: There's literally nothing wrong with him.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_02]: He's erased all the narratives that were popping up about him about not being able to come back in a game, not throwing for prolific yardage.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_02]: He already got those two out of the way this here.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_02]: He has just come back.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_02]: He has just 300 yard game.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_02]: Man, I think he's really, really good.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_02]: I think there'll be scoreboard watching a little bit in this game, whether they need it or not.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_02]: But Miami gets to play spoiler here for his MVP.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_02]: Is there also a Northeast bias in the media?
- 58:00[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely, it's like somebody was mentioning it today.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_02]: The media love voters, like, like, you know, the voters 70, I think that the number was 72% of the voters are all northeast media.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_04]: So that doesn't mean they're all pictures fans.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, but they're going to lean toward the guy that they watch the most, you know?
- 58:24[SPEAKER_04]: I, I think it's, I don't think they're like, what?
- 58:27[SPEAKER_04]: the Rams any less than they would.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, and then if I report that just doesn't watch West Coast games, that can be doesn't make any sense.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, the things that I would argue in May is favour.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_04]: is that high court about rating, high compression percentage, against common opponents this year, he's six and all his staff, it is foreign to.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I think it really interesting is that when you dig in some more of the analytics, so catch rate over expectation, this is the NFL next gen stats thing, it's a model to estimate the likelihood of a ball being court given the locations of a receiver near by defenders, sideline, other factors, et cetera, et cetera.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_04]: six receivers who run 300 more out of season with the CRI, of at least 10%, two of them of the obvious first team all pros, Pugina Kua and Jackson Smith in Jigbrook, right?
- 59:15[SPEAKER_04]: Jake Ferguson is fifth, George Pickens is sixth, all right?
- 59:18[SPEAKER_04]: But the other three guys in the top six are all patriots, Kation Booty, Stefan D's and Mac Follens are all running what would come to be the
- 59:27[SPEAKER_04]: the highest catch rates over expectation and their respective careers.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_04]: And three wide receivers in the top six, that's a Drake may stat.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_04]: And I think things like that are really important to, you know, his pocket movement is super power.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_04]: We talked about two as accuracy, super power.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_04]: He's ability to manipulate the pocket to keep plays alive.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_04]: Not to run, just to avoid Dambarina had it, just to avoid sex and be able to extend plays just long enough for receivers to get open.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_04]: But my aim is to opportunity to burst that MVP bubble because I think if he plays well against us, I think he probably does win MVP.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, it's like it all comes down to who plays, who gets rested, who you know, might remember Daniel will want to keep it close because he wants to keep his job.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_04]: Might remember Daniel beats the Patriots or if they lose on the last minute field goal or they lose by three or four points.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be a more difficult conversation if they get blown out.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_04]: and Denver lose the chiefs and Maywins MVP, it's just like an extra kind of, you know.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_04]: So there's PureRovic trees to take and winning the game is not PureRovic tree, but maybe denying Drake may MVP and denying the patron's homefield advantage, you can that's a slightly PureRovic tree, but you kind of take it, but this is a good team that's got bigger fish to fry later in the season,
- 1:00:41[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we'll maybe even play, you know, I mean, I know there's a hill, you know, because the chiefs are down to, you know, I think Steve, the birds, second string caught back for the game on that.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we'll be, yeah, you know, I can't see the chiefs beating Denver.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_04]: So, is there a... Oh, it's a chargers, isn't it?
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_04]: Those are the chargers, okay.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I think Jim Zorn is playing to protect Justin Hurler, but is there a, you know,
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_04]: would you even play Drake mayor and risk him?
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_04]: It's an interesting one, but I think the dolphins look like we talked about on Monday.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_04]: They've continued to play hard, Chris, and if they do play hard, you know, it's going to there are going to be some interesting conversations, but I do think that this will be my opinion.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_04]: It's interesting.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_04]: This is, but to me, this is probably my Daniel and two last game.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_04]: in Miami, and I think that's something that's what they've already had their last game in Miami, right?
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but it's just being, yeah, we're not saying full Miami, but also just sweet on being on being on being on to me, I think this is, oh yeah, I think that's exactly right.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_03]: And the gravity of that, actually the gravity of that started to hit me last week, like, you know, this might be Mike McDaniel's last.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_03]: coached game in Miami, you know, at that at the home, you know, in the front of the home crowd, won the game, you know, uh, to a tongue of Lowe's last appearance on the sideline in Miami, like he may never do that again.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_03]: Um, you know, for, for all we know, I think that that's, uh, that's all important.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's going to be interesting.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be about the, the second half, like by the end of the first half, as we go into the second half, I think we're going to have a, a very clear idea of how the rest of the game is going to go, um, because, you know, they're going to be scoreboard watching.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_03]: And as you suggest, you know, are, are, are the chargers really going to take care of business
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_03]: When, you know, it's been suggested they're going to be resting people, um, I think you said, uh, Justin Herbert probably not going to play, you know, stuff like that.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so, so it's a lot like last year, week 17 last year by halftime, we knew it was happening.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_02]: No, that's official.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_02]: That's official, uh, Justin Herbert's not playing.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_03]: Justin Herbert's out.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_03]: So, um, so it's a lot like last year,
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_03]: when we were scoreboard watching the chiefs game, but by halftime we knew it was happening there.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_03]: And in second half, Tiree kills like not playing anymore.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_03]: And stuff like that.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_03]: So it's going to be the vibe of the game is going to be weird.
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_03]: As you go from first to after second half.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_03]: And I think the Miami Dolphins, I think the Dolphins players defensively, they definitely play for each other.
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and they play, you know, they bring, they bring their, um, their mentality, they're, I think offensively it's going to be, you know, how enthused are we around, you know, if when you're starts throwing some first half touchdown passes, then the enthusiasm will carry them through the game.
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_03]: Um, if not, if they're struggling a little bit, I think that I trust the defense to keep up their intensity more than the offense.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and so we'll see we'll see how that goes and you know, I think I mentioned this on, um, you know, Twitter and elsewhere.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_03]: That this season, if you look at the past 10 years of dolphins or not dolphins but NFL performances and you know what sort of defense and performance from point score turnovers and things like that that are that are good enough to win you the game 90% of the time regardless of what's happening on offense right like if you if you allow this few points with you know this many turnovers and then you won 90% of the time
- 1:04:23[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the Dolphins defense has done that like seven or, you know, arguably even eight times this year.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_03]: And the flip side of that is how many times as the Dolphins offense done that.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_03]: Done enough that you would say, you know, regardless of what's going on, you probably won the game 90% of the time.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_03]: Then we'll end up done that once.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_03]: this year the Dalton's offense.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think that there is definitely a situation going on where the defense of coaching on this team and this has been happening all year and shaping up all year, the defense of coaching of this team is more impressive than the offensive coaching on this on this team the offense started out with all the continuity and all the players and all the money, the defense started out with a shit sandwich.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_03]: And and and the defense says, you know, take away, take off that first month of the season, which you knew was going to be bad because of all the turnover.
- 1:05:19[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the most turnover of any defense in the league, the most.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_03]: All the rookies that they had to play, you know, rookies take some time to round and shape.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_03]: The big layoffs with you guys like Bradley, Chub, Jalen Phillips, who had big injury layoffs, you knew they were gonna have to knock some rust off and they haven't did.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, dropping guys in very last minute that are gonna have to play on Sunday.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like this guy only got here a couple days ago.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_03]: This guy only got here a couple weeks ago.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like if you take aside those sort of sort of things were always going to be challenges for the first month of the season, but if you look in the months of October, November, December, then the D from the Miami defense is middling to even top 10.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_03]: in the NFL for those periods of time and that is remarkable to me.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_03]: That is a remarkable job on the defensive side of the ball.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't think I can say the same about the offense.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_03]: I really know.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, that's sort of we go into this thing about is Mike McDaniel going to survive.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's more of a question is Anthony, we were going to be here next year.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_03]: You know what sort of defensive coaching staff are we going to get so we're going to get a prideful defense of performance against the the New England Patriots on the Sunday What are we going to get him around the offense?
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think it all hinges on you know kind of early does does when you are Throw some spark out there touch down passes up like that get the guys going then that'll carry them through the rest of the game and I think the win But if not I don't know
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I go back to that Steelers game.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_02]: If you watched that first half, watch the dolphin defense.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_02]: Don't watch the plays.
- 1:06:58[SPEAKER_02]: Don't watch the scoreboard.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_02]: Watch the individual players, the individual effort, the hitting that they were doing in that first half.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_02]: They were beating the piss out of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_02]: And at some point, they just looked at the other side of the boner like, our offense is really doing this bullshit in this game.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_02]: And it just became too much to bear.
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_02]: in that game and then, you know, the team fell apart.
- 1:07:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think that that was the key game.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_02]: I consider I think that this game is going to be pretty much the same way.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_02]: I do believe that the Patriots will scoreboard watch.
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_02]: They're not going to get a favorable outcome in that other game.
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_02]: So it might throttle down a little bit and allow when you were to make the game close.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll go ahead first and I'll pick the game.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think New England holds on.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say they hold on.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_02]: Dolphin defense performance, I think, will be there for the last game of the season.
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_02]: They hold on 24-16 Patriots.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_02]: You're a thought, Simon.
- 1:07:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think May will play a bit.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_04]: I think Will Campbell is going to might very well apparently as the podium as we're talking said that Will Campbell and Milton Williams, then we activated off IR for some of these games.
- 1:08:10[SPEAKER_04]: So they're clean up resting that many players to find digs is going to play.
- 1:08:14[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that the new in the 30 Miami 16.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_03]: Chris.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_03]: What was a game?
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_03]: How long ago?
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you guys can answer this question because my memory is a bit fuzzy.
- 1:08:25[SPEAKER_03]: How long ago was that game where the New England Patriots played all their backups against the dolphins, the dolphins had everything to play for, knowing when had nothing to play for, because there's playoff seating was taken care of.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_02]: They played their backups and they beat the piss out of us 2016 it was 2016 dolphins had clint was it yeah was it that recently?
- 1:08:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, to dolphins had clint something like something more in antiquity now dolphins clinks to playoffs about the week before against the jets and The dolphins could have moved up to Like the four seed or the five seed the five seed at the time and avoided the steelers the Patriots basically set everybody
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_02]: And they beat the piss out of us and drop us down to the six seed and went into playing the Steelers in the first one and they can think of the game I'm thinking of is the one where Doug fluid he hit the drop kick.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_03]: Against us it was was that in my my master remembering those those circumstances because I think it was I think it was 2006 and I'm trying to get to 2006.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and it was, it was, it was one of those things were like, um, I think Mike Rable was on that team.
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_03]: as a player like he would have been on that team as a player and and so I don't know something makes me think of that like you know yeah your scoreboard watching and now you have nothing to play for but Mike Brable has been part of teams he was on that he was on that that he's been part of the teams in situations where they play their ass off anyway you know and and so I sort of wonder if he can drive that into their heads and and that's what that's
- 1:10:11[SPEAKER_03]: Ultimately, the reason that I'm going to pick the dolphins to lose the game is because of that experience, and you know, maybe it's neither here nor there, but yeah.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if you really want to go way back to antiquity, there was a time where in the dolphins, one a division with 12 wins on a tiebreaker over the Buffalo Bills, who also won 12 games and the dolphins had to win the last game of the season in New England.
- 1:10:38[SPEAKER_02]: to clinch that game and they wouldn't buy a field goal and that New England team was got off of was like 2014 that New England team and Miami just eaked out the the vision title so then of course lose to the bills in the AFC championship game a few weeks later so yeah that tends to happen.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_02]: Skorpa watching does tend to happen.
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_02]: All right that's it there's no more on Monday
- 1:11:02[SPEAKER_02]: about the results of this game, the end of the season, maybe a new head coach, or maybe the continuation of the Mike McDaniel era.
- 1:11:10[SPEAKER_00]: We'll also might even sneak in some college football playoffs semi final, but to them.
