- 0:42Speaker 1: love the interview. Plus, Chucky is back. Bill's you know,

- 0:55Speaker 1: We'll discuss all of that. JD going to be back
- 0:57Speaker 1: with you. A lot to get into here. I'm just
- 0:59Speaker 1: back from Toronto minus eighteen with the wind.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Chill wasn't great. Leaves have to we pump them up up.
- 1:04Speaker 2: What happened?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Quinn Hughes, Baby Wild beat them six to three, Austin
- 1:08Speaker 1: Matthews to score in so called garbage time. But it
- 1:11Speaker 1: was gonna be with Tyson Nash and the rest of
- 1:12Speaker 1: the crew. Gotta tell you, man that that frigid windshow.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but when I moved to
- 1:16Speaker 1: America years ago, and people would say, Oh, Canada's so cold,
- 1:19Speaker 1: that's not that cold, Like it's.
- 1:20Speaker 2: It's cold, it's not that bad.
- 1:22Speaker 1: When you go home and you you felt somebou that
- 1:24Speaker 1: Quebec air, they're in December, and I go back, if
- 1:26Speaker 1: you'd like, Toronto win chilling.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Its bloody freaking cold.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It's chili. It's uh. I mean New Jersey gets like that.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Though the last couple of days, last couple of days
- 1:35Speaker 3: have been awful, been horrendous. You get a couple where
- 1:38Speaker 3: it's like just pierces through, but talk about your I
- 1:42Speaker 3: saw you yesterday trouncing your way through the MLB network
- 1:46Speaker 3: in Secaucus. He could tell he has an office in
- 1:50Speaker 3: the back that like like a like like a czar.
- 1:54Speaker 3: He sits there in the corner, doesn't talk to anybody.
- 1:56Speaker 3: He SLINKs back there and tell them about your flight back.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Because that's this is one of it. This is a
- 2:03Speaker 3: this is a like kind of we're trying to find
- 2:06Speaker 3: segments here, right, and we're trying to do segments much
- 2:08Speaker 3: to this, Oh, Jdpop, Am I wrong? This is an
- 2:12Speaker 3: am I wrong? For ad Nan? Tell them to talk
- 2:15Speaker 3: about your travel story.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Sure, so normally I fly back home and whenever I
- 2:19Speaker 1: get back, it's all good. But I generally find I
- 2:21Speaker 1: don't know about you, JD. But do you want to
- 2:23Speaker 1: have the same rhythm? And John Forstland has told me,
- 2:25Speaker 1: and I don't want to say this out loud because
- 2:26Speaker 1: if it ever happens Forest, you'll blame me, but he's
- 2:28Speaker 1: never missed a game in forty years, and I'm like,
- 2:30Speaker 1: that's insanely You've never missed a game in forty years.
- 2:32Speaker 1: This guy calls fifty cracking games. He works for TNT
- 2:35Speaker 1: and Amazon Prime. And with the reliance on airplanes. JD's
- 2:38Speaker 1: mom worked at Air Canada, people always complain like that's
- 2:40Speaker 1: incredible to that John Forsland has never missed a game.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And he goes, well, here's the thing.
- 2:44Speaker 1: No matter what, I always take the first flight, because
- 2:46Speaker 1: he's like, the plane is there the night before, the
- 2:48Speaker 1: pilot has gotten his eight hours of sleep. There may
- 2:50Speaker 1: be a delay, there may be de icing, there may
- 2:52Speaker 1: be but that first flight is probably gonna get.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Out later in the day.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You take more chances anyways, So reason I had a
- 2:57Speaker 1: noon flight schedule. Normally I take the first flight out,
- 3:00Speaker 1: but it was Toronto. Maybe I'll go see my parents
- 3:01Speaker 1: for breakfast. I hang out with them all day Sunday,
- 3:03Speaker 1: so I took.
- 3:03Speaker 2: The noon flight. Anyways.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Elson's scheduling goes, hey, we need you to work baseball.
- 3:07Speaker 1: It's Hall of Fame day. I'm like, no problem, needs
- 3:10Speaker 1: you in around four, Like okay, noon flight and land
- 3:12Speaker 1: at one forty five. Just to be cautious, I was like,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you know what, let me get to your flight, follow
- 3:16Speaker 1: the four zone rule, get the first fight out. I
- 3:17Speaker 1: check the Amazon, like, yeah, wet's switch int the eight
- 3:19Speaker 1: forty five great had a great time, saw some friends
- 3:22Speaker 1: after the game. Get through the airport. Nights in early,
- 3:26Speaker 1: get to F ninety eight at eight o'clock. I generally
- 3:29Speaker 1: like to pop altle melatonin, so then I'll fall asleep
- 3:31Speaker 1: on the plane. But it takes him at a half
- 3:33Speaker 1: hour to kick in. That's what they say. So it's
- 3:36Speaker 1: eight o'clock. Boarding is eight eight twenty. The flight today
- 3:39Speaker 1: forty five eight o'clock. Pop two sit there, fell asleep,
- 3:42Speaker 1: promptly woke up. It's eight forty five Okay, I gotta
- 3:46Speaker 1: get on. She's like, we've already borded. I'm going to no, seriously,
- 3:48Speaker 1: come on, I was right here. It's like, sure, you've
- 3:50Speaker 1: already boarded. You're gonna have to reschedule. I'm like, and
- 3:53Speaker 1: I wanted to say, but I know that it's on
- 3:54Speaker 1: me because I like, no, I fell asleep, But I
- 3:56Speaker 1: wanted to say, tell, if you see someone sleeping in
- 3:59Speaker 1: this area, do you think that I'm just chose this
- 4:01Speaker 1: area to sleep or do you think that I'm ready.
- 4:03Speaker 3: To board in bag of ball?
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just a fagabond.
- 4:06Speaker 1: So maybe just because this happened in Winnipeg, I did
- 4:08Speaker 1: fall asleep, but the guy nudged me, so we're aborting.
- 4:10Speaker 2: My Oh my god, thank you so much.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So I had to go to Air Canada Next flights
- 4:14Speaker 1: at noon, which is the original flight.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I go, this is bullshit. I go, there's nothing else.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I text Amazon to go there's a ten forty five United,
- 4:20Speaker 1: there's sister companies Air kN United. He goes, sorry, I
- 4:23Speaker 1: can't help you out the noons the next flight. I
- 4:25Speaker 1: did like his next lat though, which was he goes,
- 4:27Speaker 1: you're dazling gonna get better from here, I'm like, I
- 4:29Speaker 1: guess that's a good point.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Fuck you, dude, that's what I would say.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But normally I like to read. I'm so angry, like
- 4:36Speaker 1: I don't even WoT the reading. I'm just staring at
- 4:38Speaker 1: through it. I'm just furious at the world.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I'm like, I gotta make this flight. Thank God made
- 4:41Speaker 2: the noon flight. I did. Sit next to him, and
- 4:42Speaker 2: though it's wonderful.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Jamaican Canadian lady who has terrible anxiety on planes, I
- 4:46Speaker 1: go listen. I'm the same way. I take this maletone
- 4:48Speaker 1: and trust me, you're gonna fall asleep. Don't even know where
- 4:50Speaker 1: we are.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And she said, can I go listen? If you have
- 4:51Speaker 2: any issues, seriously, hold my hand. She's like my mom says.
- 4:54Speaker 2: She goes, ye, I go, just hold my hand.
- 4:55Speaker 1: You're gonna be fine, I promise you, because I it's
- 4:57Speaker 1: not embarrassing.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I go, trust me.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I don't like blind. Most people don't like fine. Nobody
- 5:00Speaker 1: likes this experience right now. So a lot of people
- 5:02Speaker 1: are right there with you.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Deep breasts.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You hold hand like okay, and her sister's in the
- 5:06Speaker 1: other aisle. I go, your sister's a nurse, to go
- 5:07Speaker 1: ask we look at melotone, it's Nashville. Go ahead, papacalla shoes.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I don't want to take any were you drugging people
- 5:11Speaker 2: on the plane, So I'm like passing it out when
- 5:13Speaker 2: there was so many And then I.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Having a melton, I felt that moment like when the
- 5:17Speaker 1: place was to kick it, and she immediately grabbed my hand.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I'm like, it's okay, it's okay, we got this. We
- 5:21Speaker 2: got this. Do all right. And then on the way
- 5:23Speaker 2: down we did get some serious turbulence.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I'm like, oh Jesus even I was like, and she
- 5:28Speaker 1: like grabs my hand, goes okay, we got this.
- 5:30Speaker 2: We got this.
- 5:31Speaker 1: So I mids imidst a terrible day in terms of
- 5:34Speaker 1: what could have been a disaster, I felt like I
- 5:36Speaker 1: did my part.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Is a good submaritan. I helped this lady get through
- 5:38Speaker 2: a bad flight.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And uh, we learned our lesson, Jadie, don't fall asleep,
- 5:42Speaker 1: don't nap, stay up the whole time.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's stinks. I once missed a flight for
- 5:48Speaker 3: for drinking in the in the in the bar of
- 5:51Speaker 3: the airport and we we we have like an hour
- 5:55Speaker 3: and we realized like two hours later we're ship faced
- 5:57Speaker 3: and we missed her flight.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Because I'm because now, but.
- 6:02Speaker 1: At some point that mister demurs Jason tours Plase like
- 6:05Speaker 1: I'm wondering. I wanted to ask, did you say ad
- 6:07Speaker 1: Nam burk work. I'm like, I think I would have
- 6:08Speaker 1: heard my name, but you didn't say anything.
- 6:10Speaker 3: No, we blew by that because we ended up walking
- 6:13Speaker 3: to the gate, and then we sat at the gate
- 6:15Speaker 3: and we're like, oh, look at all these people here,
- 6:17Speaker 3: like everybody's waiting for the flight. But that was the
- 6:19Speaker 3: next flight that we completely missed because we were hammering
- 6:22Speaker 3: and we're sitting there laughing. We look around, we turn
- 6:23Speaker 3: around and go, lock, where's our plane? If we've been
- 6:26Speaker 3: sitting here for a little bit, right home, right to bed.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Well's at least in your instance wherever you're going. Like, again,
- 6:33Speaker 1: if I missed the flight, I have to work, it's
- 6:35Speaker 1: not a big deal. My fear was the noon flight's canceled.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Now yeah, costing MLB network, It's Hall of Fame day.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Carlos Beltian's all where the hell's urk?
- 6:42Speaker 2: Oh?
- 6:42Speaker 1: Well, he plaes still in Torontom, Like, I'll get in
- 6:45Speaker 1: the car, I'll drive, well, do what I gotta do.
- 6:46Speaker 2: So tell am I wrong? Was it on me? Was
- 6:49Speaker 2: it on Air Canada? Who's it fault? Here? Here's my
- 6:53Speaker 2: thought on this, and it is on you?
- 6:55Speaker 3: I mean, but I will say this, I think I
- 6:58Speaker 3: company man.
- 6:59Speaker 4: I think I think it should be a policy among
- 7:03Speaker 4: the airlines if someone is asleep at the gate and
- 7:07Speaker 4: the and the plane is boarding, they.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Should be required to check with that person, even.
- 7:14Speaker 4: If it means waking them up and they're not on
- 7:15Speaker 4: the flight. They should check with something them and say,
- 7:17Speaker 4: excuse me, sir, ma'am are you waiting to board this flight?
- 7:21Speaker 4: We don't want you to miss it? Yes, And worst
- 7:23Speaker 4: that happens, you wake them up and they go back
- 7:25Speaker 4: to sleep. But yeah, I think that should be kind
- 7:28Speaker 4: of the standard that if someone working at the gates
- 7:31Speaker 4: sees that they check in just to make sure that
- 7:33Speaker 4: they're they're not going to miss their flight.
- 7:35Speaker 1: We have a wonderful guy named Adam Schlackman who does
- 7:37Speaker 1: the scheduling, and he used a couple of offices over
- 7:40Speaker 1: from me.
- 7:41Speaker 2: After Demerse pops.
- 7:42Speaker 3: By, is this after the flight?
- 7:44Speaker 2: He goes, who's this guy?
- 7:45Speaker 1: Demerse goes, just so you know, he recorded a video
- 7:47Speaker 1: of you before he came in to say hello to you.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I go, thank god. Demurse thinks I don't know that
- 7:51Speaker 2: he's going to pop this up on this right now.
- 7:52Speaker 2: It's what he's doing eating an apple by office.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I'm like, I've got spies everywhere, slackers, don't worry. He
- 7:59Speaker 1: video bombed you for about thirty seconds. Then he came
- 8:01Speaker 1: in try to be your body like, I'm ready for it,
- 8:03Speaker 1: no problem, shlack office.
- 8:06Speaker 2: On top of it.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I watched you eat that apple, caress that apple for seconds.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Nothing wrong.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Oh, it looked, it looked good. And then you had
- 8:16Speaker 3: socks on the desk that looked like a man of
- 8:18Speaker 3: mister Flight today.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Look, I hate wearing shoes. I believe that's also a
- 8:23Speaker 1: Bender thing. When were you and Bender way back in
- 8:25Speaker 1: the day, there was a thing about taking it. Well.
- 8:26Speaker 3: He came into my he came into my apartment, and
- 8:28Speaker 3: he had shoes on, and he's you know, obviously most
- 8:33Speaker 3: places I'd be like, eh, no, shoes off. I'm a
- 8:36Speaker 3: New Jersey, New York. The filth that's out here, Yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 3: actually get your goddamn shoes off. He was offended by it.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Wow, I'm team Demurs. I mean, you come up my
- 8:45Speaker 2: house you gotta take your shoes off.
- 8:47Speaker 1: What are we doing always? Yeah, but yeah, you're not
- 8:50Speaker 1: a shoes guy. No, so I fell by my office.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I take my shoes off immediately. Now Tom's point, I
- 8:55Speaker 1: keep my socks on. I'm not I'm not a socks
- 8:57Speaker 1: off guy. I think that's gross. You're not an absolute animal.
- 9:00Speaker 1: But any chance I did my shoes off, I take
- 9:02Speaker 1: my shoes off.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Wow, on the desk. That was Steve Tronzano's desk too.
- 9:07Speaker 2: The tronz has never been on that desk. It's not true.
- 9:09Speaker 1: By the way, I thought Tal had a critical comment
- 9:12Speaker 1: to make him the chat. All it said was got
- 9:13Speaker 1: to get to hockey soon. He's lost interest now in
- 9:16Speaker 1: this topic. Let's move on. This is what podcasting is about. Well,
- 9:21Speaker 1: we had a video element. Well video element. I think
- 9:23Speaker 1: we could definitely agree how that would be more fun.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But our producer is not a fan of this. We'll
- 9:26Speaker 1: see if Bob Bender like the m I wrong. All right,
- 9:28Speaker 1: Rasmus Anderson's going to Vegas, the trade market going to
- 9:31Speaker 1: heat up. We all knew this. You saw Anderson's Saturday
- 9:33Speaker 1: night kind of getting an emotional there at the saddle.
- 9:36Speaker 2: He knew the word was coming. Calgary retains fifty percent
- 9:38Speaker 2: of his salary.
- 9:39Speaker 1: They get back Zach Whitecloud, a prospect Abram weeby a
- 9:43Speaker 1: first round pick in twenty twenty seven second round or
- 9:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty that does get bumped up to a first
- 9:47Speaker 1: rounder if Vegas wins the Cup this season. So again,
- 9:50Speaker 1: Andrew was a guy JD we would talk about. We
- 9:52Speaker 1: know he's gonna go somewhere at UFA this summer.
- 9:54Speaker 2: What do you make of the trade? First off for Vegas?
- 9:56Speaker 2: How much does this help them? Yeah?
- 9:58Speaker 3: I think it's an upgrade, you know. I think Kelly
- 10:01Speaker 3: McCrimmon is an absolute gun slinger, does not give a
- 10:04Speaker 3: big ares fuck about draft picks. He doesn't care. You
- 10:08Speaker 3: look at the last you know, because you know first
- 10:11Speaker 3: round picks and I understand, but you know, you can
- 10:14Speaker 3: you draft somebody that has the potential to be a
- 10:16Speaker 3: superstar unless you're getting a top three Uh. If you
- 10:20Speaker 3: see somebody that's already established in the NHL, that that
- 10:23Speaker 3: is already producing at a high level, why wouldn't you
- 10:25Speaker 3: go out and get that person? Keep your team if
- 10:28Speaker 3: you can make it work financially, which they seem to
- 10:31Speaker 3: have done so far. It's an upgrade. I mean, listen,
- 10:34Speaker 3: I like Zach Whiteclott a lot what he's done for
- 10:36Speaker 3: this team, and you know, he's won a Cup, and
- 10:39Speaker 3: he plays a good too in or foot game. He
- 10:41Speaker 3: can be physical, he can play some offensive defense. So
- 10:44Speaker 3: I think Calvary's by no stretch of the imagination they're
- 10:47Speaker 3: getting a solid boat of a solid return for Rasmus Anderson.
- 10:53Speaker 3: But yeah, Rasmus is just he's a good, good hockey player,
- 10:58Speaker 3: He's a gamer. I think he's an upgrade from Zach Whiteclott,
- 11:01Speaker 3: and I think this really really makes Vegas his top
- 11:04Speaker 3: four when healthy, you know, one of the best in
- 11:07Speaker 3: the league. With Hannafin now reunited with his buddy Rasmus Anderson.
- 11:12Speaker 3: You look at the what they've kind of gotten from Calgary,
- 11:14Speaker 3: and I just this is just a you know, it's
- 11:17Speaker 3: that question of do you want draft picks or players
- 11:20Speaker 3: that are established, And it seems to be a common
- 11:23Speaker 3: thread in the NHL amongst fans of like, oh, I'll
- 11:26Speaker 3: take a boatload of first round draft picks and then
- 11:29Speaker 3: you know, hopefully have a team for years. And it's like, well,
- 11:33Speaker 3: those are great, but if you don't develop, you have
- 11:36Speaker 3: like a five year window, and it's like about a
- 11:38Speaker 3: three to five year weight for them all to kind
- 11:40Speaker 3: of hit, and then if it doesn't hit, you get
- 11:42Speaker 3: to restart all over again. And staid, you're taking a
- 11:44Speaker 3: guy that's proven to be a top four defenseman in
- 11:48Speaker 3: the NHL. It's playing big minutes, can score goals, he's
- 11:51Speaker 3: got some jam to him, versus a first round pick
- 11:55Speaker 3: that you don't know what it's going to turn into.
- 11:57Speaker 3: And if you look at like their list of first
- 11:59Speaker 3: round picks since their inception that they've traded away, I
- 12:02Speaker 3: think there's like three that are playing in the end.
- 12:04Speaker 3: The only one that hurts is Nick Suzuki. That's the
- 12:07Speaker 3: only one I think where they miss. But other than that,
- 12:09Speaker 3: I'm like, fucking it hasn't been that bad. I think
- 12:13Speaker 3: it's worked out pretty well for them. And I think
- 12:15Speaker 3: if you're any fan in the NHL, the question would be,
- 12:19Speaker 3: would you rather take Vegas where Vegas is right now
- 12:22Speaker 3: or where Calgary is right now?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 12:24Speaker 1: And I think oftentimes to your point about trading the picks,
- 12:27Speaker 1: if you're a general manager, you have to have real
- 12:28Speaker 1: confidence that you have good jobscrew that you can make
- 12:30Speaker 1: these trades and you'll still be around because sometimes that happens.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You don't care because you dealing the picture going.
- 12:35Speaker 1: If I don't make this trade, if this doesn't work out,
- 12:37Speaker 1: if we don't make the playoffs, I'm not going to
- 12:38Speaker 1: have a job in three years anyways when these draft
- 12:40Speaker 1: picks pay off. So ultimately, Anderson's a good players and
- 12:43Speaker 1: improve that team. And Vancouver right now is in a situation,
- 12:46Speaker 1: as Jimmy Rutherford knows, Patrick Albin knows, we're not going anywhere.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I just trade all the assets we can. Let's top
- 12:51Speaker 2: their players.
- 12:52Speaker 1: So Key for sure where goes to San Jose second
- 12:55Speaker 1: rounders in twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven, along
- 12:57Speaker 1: with the defenseman Cole Clayton.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Sure.
- 12:59Speaker 1: He has been one of the few bright spots in
- 13:00Speaker 1: this Vancouver team. Seventeen goals this season, He's on pace
- 13:03Speaker 1: to shatter his career high. How much to Sure would
- 13:06Speaker 1: help your your guys there in San Jose, Well.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Just an added piece on the wing for them, you know,
- 13:12Speaker 3: I think a thirty year old that that's kind of
- 13:15Speaker 3: where they're at. You know, it's interesting, it's a tailor
- 13:17Speaker 3: of two teams with Vegas and San Jose. Like you know,
- 13:20Speaker 3: Vegas is kind of win now, and in San Jose
- 13:23Speaker 3: had this plan of a rebuild of you know, three
- 13:25Speaker 3: to five years, and it kind of got sped up.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Maclin CELBRINGI sped it up, and that's one of those
- 13:30Speaker 3: rare cases where you're able to get the first overall
- 13:33Speaker 3: pick and he turns into this generational talent. So I think,
- 13:37Speaker 3: and this is also a vote of confidence from Mike
- 13:39Speaker 3: Greer to the San Jose Sharks saying, Hey, you guys
- 13:42Speaker 3: have earned this as a group. I'm gonna go out
- 13:44Speaker 3: and get something to make you guys better. So sometimes
- 13:47Speaker 3: it's not like, hey, we're going all into win now,
- 13:50Speaker 3: but it's like we're gonna bring in a guy that's
- 13:52Speaker 3: thirty years old. We're probably gonna sign him a five
- 13:53Speaker 3: year deal, you know, and he's going to be there
- 13:57Speaker 3: until he retires or if this thing doesn't work out.
- 14:00Speaker 3: But we're bringing in a guy that another guy that
- 14:02Speaker 3: plays physical is a shit disturber, can score goals, can
- 14:07Speaker 3: play on your third line, can play in your first line,
- 14:09Speaker 3: it doesn't really matter where. And I think it's going
- 14:12Speaker 3: to benefit this team down the stretch, especially with you know,
- 14:15Speaker 3: the plethora of young guys that they have, so I
- 14:18Speaker 3: think it's a great, little tidy piece of work. You know,
- 14:20Speaker 3: Mike Career has made some Initially when he got that team,
- 14:23Speaker 3: it was a little bit of a tangled up heap
- 14:26Speaker 3: and mess, and he's had to unravel all these strings
- 14:28Speaker 3: and kind of put his imprint on the team and
- 14:32Speaker 3: it's kind of really coming to fruition. He's making some
- 14:34Speaker 3: very good moves that are really benefiting this team. So
- 14:38Speaker 3: I think it's a good tidy piece of work by
- 14:40Speaker 3: Mike Career. And again, the guys in San Jose earned it.
- 14:43Speaker 3: They earned it. They go into Florida and Tampa and
- 14:45Speaker 3: they split. Obviously, their back to backs have been a
- 14:49Speaker 3: little bit shitty and they have a tough schedule down
- 14:51Speaker 3: the stretch.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Here, just say, tough to beat the Lightning or the
- 14:53Speaker 1: best team in the Eastern Conference right now.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Just rolling after beating the Panthers. If you beat the
- 14:57Speaker 3: if you beat the Lightning and the Panthers back to back,
- 14:59Speaker 3: I mean, I think he would have went out and
- 15:01Speaker 3: tried to trade for Crosby at that point because you're
- 15:03Speaker 3: you're winning the Cup. Because it's a too you know,
- 15:05Speaker 3: Florida has been struggling with Tampa's just a stud So
- 15:09Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I think they're they're in they're in
- 15:11Speaker 3: a good spot, they're ahead of the curve. And this
- 15:13Speaker 3: is where it gets a little tough, I think for
- 15:15Speaker 3: a GM, which is like, do you push your chips
- 15:18Speaker 3: in because you're but you can't get horny because you
- 15:21Speaker 3: don't want to get too horny and be like, well,
- 15:22Speaker 3: I'm trading white acids. I'm trading white acid's because we're
- 15:25Speaker 3: in a playoffs. But it's like, no, you got to
- 15:26Speaker 3: trust the process and make sure you kind of put
- 15:30Speaker 3: one foot in front of the other. And I think
- 15:31Speaker 3: he does that with Keith for Surewood and I still
- 15:33Speaker 3: think they need you know, they have five defensemen that
- 15:35Speaker 3: are gonna be UFA's next year that they're probably gonna lose.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Maybe they'll keep DeHart in and uh but yeah, they're
- 15:42Speaker 3: gonna have He's got a lot of work cut out
- 15:44Speaker 3: for them on the back end specifically. But yeah, good
- 15:47Speaker 3: pick good pick up by this San Jose.
- 15:51Speaker 2: And sure would. By the way, it's gonna be fine
- 15:52Speaker 2: the summers to do for a big race.
- 15:54Speaker 1: So you're talking about not utter sign, well, you're talking
- 15:56Speaker 1: about not getting too horny. In the meantime, there's all
- 15:58Speaker 1: but restraint here in terms of not want to shoot
- 16:00Speaker 1: your load, and that's what the Rangers are doing. This
- 16:02Speaker 1: letter was sent almost exactly eight years after Rangers executives
- 16:06Speaker 1: Jeff Gordon and Glenn say The wrote a letter to
- 16:09Speaker 1: fans explaining how the team is going in a different direction.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Current Blue Shirts president and gim Christie put pen to
- 16:14Speaker 1: paper told fans, with our position in the standings and
- 16:17Speaker 1: injuries to key players this season, we must be honest
- 16:20Speaker 1: and realistic about our situation.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Now. Went on to say, it's not a reable, it's
- 16:23Speaker 2: a retool. We all know that's, you know, euphemism.
- 16:26Speaker 1: The Rangers are not offering star Ford or Timmy penerin
- 16:28Speaker 1: at contract extension.
- 16:29Speaker 2: After that, that's when it was revealed.
- 16:31Speaker 1: So the Russian playmakers is the top of list right
- 16:33Speaker 1: now as far as targets going towards the trade deadline.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Your thoughts in the letter. I was on Edge on
- 16:37Speaker 2: Network on Friday.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I was amused by it more than anything, and especially
- 16:41Speaker 1: if you're a Rangers than I can imagine just tossing
- 16:43Speaker 1: a hands up in the air.
- 16:44Speaker 2: But but Aaron's getting doubts.
- 16:45Speaker 3: The bottom line, Yeah, I hope like the Kings are
- 16:48Speaker 3: in Anaheim. I think those are two teams that could
- 16:50Speaker 3: use him, you know, Quinnville. I think it's definitely the
- 16:55Speaker 3: Kings really need him. I mean the paper, the letter
- 16:59Speaker 3: had some you know there add some notes of potential.
- 17:03Speaker 2: He wrote a letter.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe gem maybe what's the other one,
- 17:07Speaker 3: Google or Gemini? Maybe Gemini would who knows, you know,
- 17:10Speaker 3: who knows? We need a sponsor? Could be chat GPT
- 17:13Speaker 3: sponsored by CHET, but it's you know, chat GPT's that
- 17:15Speaker 3: hyphen is that dead giveaway and there's a hyphen that
- 17:18Speaker 3: didn't need to be there, Like no human being is like,
- 17:22Speaker 3: let me write this letter. Oh this needs a hyphen
- 17:25Speaker 3: right here. It's not like it's not like he's bridging
- 17:28Speaker 3: two last names or anything like that. So it's like, so,
- 17:31Speaker 3: uh listen the Rangers man, oh man, Like, I just
- 17:36Speaker 3: think it's been mismanaged. Uh, you know, unfortunately, not unfortunately,
- 17:42Speaker 3: but you know, Chris Chruri is really embedded in that organization.
- 17:46Speaker 3: They really believe in him and what he's done. But yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 3: I just I just don't that that team doesn't have
- 17:51Speaker 3: an identity, and you're you're starting to kind of get
- 17:55Speaker 3: into a position where you see Igor Shisterkin visibly frustrated
- 18:00Speaker 3: like game in and game out. Like the media, he's
- 18:02Speaker 3: more and more kind of short. I'm like, you might
- 18:05Speaker 3: lose this fucking guy, like if you keep going the
- 18:08Speaker 3: way you're going, like, because no one wants to hang
- 18:10Speaker 3: around players that are signed to twelve year deals don't
- 18:13Speaker 3: want to be on rebuilds. So it's like, yes, you're rebuilding.
- 18:16Speaker 3: You've pushed this off for years. You got to ask
- 18:19Speaker 3: Igor Shusterka now to be kind of you know, patient
- 18:23Speaker 3: for three years so you know where this goes and
- 18:26Speaker 3: where the Rangers go. I don't know. They need a
- 18:28Speaker 3: lot of work on their back end. Their forward group
- 18:30Speaker 3: is missing. They're gonna now lose Paneren. We'll see what
- 18:32Speaker 3: the hall you can get. But to me, I'm like,
- 18:35Speaker 3: I don't understand what he's doing with the Panerien thing.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Like he's announcing like Panera can get traded. So it's
- 18:40Speaker 3: like now every GM is like looking their chops because
- 18:42Speaker 3: he's a UFA. So I'm like he did if he
- 18:45Speaker 3: doesn't want, he could just play out the year and
- 18:47Speaker 3: then just leave New York and they get nothing for him.
- 18:50Speaker 3: And conversely, if you're a GM in the league. You're
- 18:53Speaker 3: gonna try to get him and least the mouch exactly.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Right, So I don't know if you're trying to start
- 18:57Speaker 3: a bidding war, but I feel like you you're.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Trying to start a biding war. Say the teams are
- 19:02Speaker 1: on the cush. Oh my god, you get Panera and
- 19:03Speaker 1: you knocker sow up.
- 19:04Speaker 2: But I'm with you.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I think most gyms go I'll give up something. I'm
- 19:07Speaker 1: not gonna get up too much anyway. Yeah, I'll give
- 19:10Speaker 1: him the off season.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Yeah, who, I mean, who can use him? I think
- 19:13Speaker 3: the Kings definitely. I think the Kings just keep coming up.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I think it's I think it's a.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Kings are stay a team, like they just need some offense.
- 19:19Speaker 3: They need him. Yeah, it would help them. He'd be
- 19:21Speaker 3: an upgrade from Cusbenco and and and that forward group
- 19:25Speaker 3: that desperately needs it and they need to make the
- 19:27Speaker 3: playoffs but they miss there and they're in fucking trouble.
- 19:31Speaker 3: And then you can also look at UH Minnesota Wild
- 19:33Speaker 3: as well.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Maybe big question becomes how much you believe in Jewry
- 19:36Speaker 1: if he's the guy even to turn around this Rangers team.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I mean, obviously I respect him as a player, what
- 19:40Speaker 2: he's able to do.
- 19:40Speaker 1: But I don't I would be underwhelmed if I'm a
- 19:43Speaker 1: Rangers fan right now, I look at it.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Yeah, respect what he's done as a player, definitely. Uh,
- 19:48Speaker 3: I just don't quite understand some of the moves as
- 19:51Speaker 3: a GM Unfortunately. It's just it is what it is.
- 19:53Speaker 3: It's it's tough. It's a tough job because we're in
- 19:56Speaker 3: the media. We have to scrutinize, we have to look.
- 19:58Speaker 3: I'm not saying he's a piece of ship by any means,
- 20:00Speaker 3: but I'm just saying like he's mismanaged the club and
- 20:04Speaker 3: in some sense of the word, and I just don't
- 20:06Speaker 3: think it's a lot of head scratching. Yeah, I'm kind
- 20:09Speaker 3: of sitting here like I don't understand that is that
- 20:10Speaker 3: chatchipt is that you know? Like what's with the letter?
- 20:15Speaker 3: I get it, you're in the Rangers and you're trying
- 20:17Speaker 3: to feel like you're Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.
- 20:19Speaker 3: But come we believe they just just play hockey. Just
- 20:23Speaker 3: play hockey.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Uh. In the meantime, speaking to playing hockey, Chucky is back.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Bill Zio wouldn't tell us a damn thing about the
- 20:29Speaker 1: return of Matthew could Chuck, but the Panthers for I
- 20:31Speaker 1: finally made his season debut. That was in Flora's foremen
- 20:34Speaker 1: loss to the aforementioned Sharks. Chuck had been out since
- 20:37Speaker 1: surgery in August the torn abductor muscle and sports Turnia
- 20:40Speaker 1: went pointless just in or twenty.
- 20:42Speaker 2: One minutes against San Jose. Did have three shots and
- 20:44Speaker 2: a hit.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Florida right now, JD on the outside looking at a
- 20:47Speaker 1: playoff spot, and I know over keeps saying, Hey, it's Florida,
- 20:50Speaker 1: they'll be fine. The other day they'll be okay, But
- 20:52Speaker 1: this is kind of that moment. Right It's a couple
- 20:54Speaker 1: of weeks down before the Olympics. You get two and
- 20:55Speaker 1: a half weeks before that, make a little headway, and
- 20:58Speaker 1: then right after that it's gonna be a sprint to
- 20:59Speaker 1: the finish.
- 20:59Speaker 2: So I'm of the.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Belief theoretically that Florida will be fine, but it's so
- 21:04Speaker 1: tight and congested the East right now. They need some
- 21:06Speaker 1: of those loser points. They need to figure things out.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And they got Matthew kat Chuck back, which is huge.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm you know, it's it's it's a little worrisome.
- 21:16Speaker 3: I'll be honest, with you. But you know, if you
- 21:18Speaker 3: look at their last stretch of games, they got what three, four, five, six,
- 21:24Speaker 3: seventy nine, got nine games before the break. Six of
- 21:27Speaker 3: the nine are against out of conference teams, and then
- 21:30Speaker 3: your last three before the break are all Atlantic Division teams,
- 21:35Speaker 3: So that is that is going to be some big,
- 21:39Speaker 3: big games. And then right out of the break they
- 21:41Speaker 3: got the Maple Leafs and the Sabers. So the last like,
- 21:44Speaker 3: after these next six games, it's five straight against five
- 21:48Speaker 3: straight against their own division, so they need to kind
- 21:51Speaker 3: of make up some ground against because I always say,
- 21:54Speaker 3: like the conference games is where you kind of make
- 21:56Speaker 3: up ground out of conference because you can't get the
- 21:59Speaker 3: loser point, the overtime points. So to me, it's like,
- 22:02Speaker 3: you know they got right now they have Jets the
- 22:04Speaker 3: while the Blackhawks and Mammoth Blues and Jets before these games,
- 22:09Speaker 3: I mean, these are winnable games, like they can go
- 22:11Speaker 3: in a little bit of a run here, and then
- 22:12Speaker 3: they're playing the Atlantic Division, so that's like that then
- 22:15Speaker 3: becomes their this is their push. You know, if they don't,
- 22:18Speaker 3: if they're not within four points of a playoff spot
- 22:22Speaker 3: come to break, I think it's going to be very tough.
- 22:26Speaker 3: It's gonna be very tough to make it post break.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that that's where the challenge becomes.
- 22:30Speaker 1: You start to say, well, but like, I do think
- 22:32Speaker 1: you're right that somebody is sitting there with it's Bill Zeno,
- 22:35Speaker 1: whether it's Paul Maurice saying what's the number? Like how
- 22:37Speaker 1: you know you keep saying well with them with four
- 22:39Speaker 1: points of the playoff spot past four teams ahead of you, right,
- 22:41Speaker 1: Like It's that's where I think it's simple. Masters become
- 22:44Speaker 1: an issue with this, Like, that's where I keep laughing.
- 22:46Speaker 1: These leaf fans are like ten game points coming. You're
- 22:48Speaker 1: still not even a playoffs spot. Yeah, she still haven't
- 22:51Speaker 1: gotten ready to be. You still have room to grow.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Even the Sabers as great as run as it's been,
- 22:55Speaker 1: like yeah, but a couple losses and you have a
- 22:56Speaker 1: playoffs pot again.
- 22:57Speaker 2: So it's it's I'm with you. I think Florida should
- 23:00Speaker 2: see it.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Right, don't talk about my Sabers. They're they're a fucking wagon.
- 23:04Speaker 3: A wagon right.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Now, I asked your wagon.
- 23:07Speaker 1: No he did the TNT game Flyers Savers? Who did
- 23:09Speaker 1: Jody Shelley did it last Wednesday? And go Savers making
- 23:11Speaker 1: the playoffs. He's like, because they lack a little killer instinct,
- 23:14Speaker 1: because they don't they don't really put teams away.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Listen, I'm not writing either.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I cover the NHL. These guys cover one team. I
- 23:22Speaker 3: love Jody Shelley. Yeah, Colamas Blue Jackets. He's all in. Yeah.
- 23:26Speaker 3: But when you cover a team, you get a little
- 23:28Speaker 3: bit near sighted. Well, this team's a fucking wagon. This
- 23:32Speaker 3: team is getting They're rolling into the playoffs right now.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I love your passion for the Sabers. I also I'm
- 23:37Speaker 1: assuming your passion for a good goalie fight. Kachuck didn't
- 23:40Speaker 1: score against the Sharks, but every was talking about what
- 23:43Speaker 1: happened with the connect energy, perhaps rubbing offense and players
- 23:45Speaker 1: for the first time since Edmonton's Mike Smith and Calgary's
- 23:49Speaker 1: Cam Talbot knuckled up. February first, twenty twenty A goalie fight.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Seeing Bobrovski making a two hundred foot trek down just
- 23:56Speaker 1: to fight Alex Nadelkovitz. Fantastic, pretty good goalie fight. They
- 24:00Speaker 1: got five for fighting, two for leaving the crease. You
- 24:02Speaker 1: think of the all time great goaliefights, of course, hecks
- 24:04Speaker 1: all pot fans, great Patrick wall osgood Wall versus Vernon
- 24:07Speaker 1: Sugar Ray Emery.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I can't spiroll, but this is pretty solid.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I mean the fact that Bob got a couple of
- 24:12Speaker 1: good shots and eventually Bob did go down with me
- 24:15Speaker 1: to Dalkwitch won the fight. But my favorite part of
- 24:17Speaker 1: the JAD was the cutaway of the Shark's bench and
- 24:19Speaker 1: you see guys going nuts like that was made the
- 24:23Speaker 1: entire thing worth it.
- 24:24Speaker 3: That's what it's all about, is that. And if you
- 24:27Speaker 3: look at that, like that lineup of guys, it was
- 24:29Speaker 3: like Mesa Will Smith, you know, celebrity chernus Off. It's
- 24:34Speaker 3: all these like nineteen twenty year olds just losing their
- 24:37Speaker 3: mind like kids at school.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Like ah to school fight. Ah.
- 24:41Speaker 3: You know, I just that's what hockey's about. You look,
- 24:44Speaker 3: you know, you look at all those guys in that
- 24:46Speaker 3: bench to all super skilled, you know, guys that probably
- 24:50Speaker 3: in their career will maybe have five fights total between
- 24:53Speaker 3: a lot of them. Uh not saying they're not, you know,
- 24:56Speaker 3: tough players, but there's just another there's just a level
- 25:00Speaker 3: of respect for guys that can fight and and goalies
- 25:03Speaker 3: you know doing the but it's it's it's bigger than that.
- 25:06Speaker 3: It just shows like the great kind of the rich
- 25:08Speaker 3: tapestry if you, if I may, of the game that
- 25:13Speaker 3: that is hockey is just fighting, and it's it's it's
- 25:17Speaker 3: part of it's embedded in the culture. And and I
- 25:20Speaker 3: think it's anytime you see somebody that your teammate kind
- 25:24Speaker 3: of the willingness to drop the gloves and fight, I
- 25:27Speaker 3: think you just love it. And and when it's a goalie,
- 25:29Speaker 3: it's just something different because we all we all dream
- 25:32Speaker 3: of the goalie fight. Like it's every time there's a
- 25:34Speaker 3: goal that jumps in a scrum, everybody's first look is
- 25:37Speaker 3: looking at the other goal. That's what we all do
- 25:39Speaker 3: as fans that we all do his media, we all
- 25:41Speaker 3: look down the ice and goes he coming? Is he coming?
- 25:43Speaker 3: So I just think it was great by Bob, who
- 25:46Speaker 3: struggled a bit this year to kind of shout up.
- 25:49Speaker 3: You know, this is a guy that somebody said it yesterday.
- 25:52Speaker 3: It's the guy that's won two cups ten million bucks
- 25:55Speaker 3: a year. Guy doesn't need to go down and fight. Yeah,
- 25:58Speaker 3: but he fucking that's him. Older guy can hurt himself
- 26:03Speaker 3: thirty six. This guy says, no, screw it, caution of
- 26:06Speaker 3: the wind. I fight you. It was Dragle it was
- 26:09Speaker 3: Drago versus Rocky.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I will break you.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I would break you.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Tell your thoughts on goalie fights.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Love a good bullet of goalie fight.
- 26:18Speaker 4: And again I was going to say, I love the
- 26:20Speaker 4: response from the Shark's bench. They they were absolutely their
- 26:23Speaker 4: eyes were just bugging out of their head. Great point
- 26:26Speaker 4: about Bob too. What does this guy have to prove
- 26:28Speaker 4: to anyone?
- 26:29Speaker 2: Right?
- 26:30Speaker 3: You know? And and not a thing.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I want to know what it's like that moment. What's
- 26:35Speaker 4: that moment when you're all the way at the end
- 26:36Speaker 4: of the end of the ice, you see things are
- 26:38Speaker 4: starting to get heated all the way two hundred feet away,
- 26:40Speaker 4: and you're like, I'm going I'm getting in there, you know,
- 26:43Speaker 4: hold my calls, I'm going in.
- 26:46Speaker 3: I just love that.
- 26:47Speaker 4: For me, it's like the fight itself is fun, but
- 26:50Speaker 4: the anticipation when you're watching the one keeper make that
- 26:55Speaker 4: long skate all the way down the ice, it's just.
- 26:58Speaker 2: It's like a WWE entrance.
- 27:00Speaker 3: They need entrance music for these stone cold fucking awesome
- 27:04Speaker 3: than three Bob three sixteen.
- 27:07Speaker 2: It is that John Cena's music.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god, just goes nuts.
- 27:14Speaker 2: It certainly was a memorable moment.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Meantime, one of the stories of this hockey season, at
- 27:18Speaker 1: least recently, has been all the noise coming out of Ottawa,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and this time to try to silence that noise. Linas
- 27:23Speaker 1: Almark spoke, this is a week after the sense statement
- 27:26Speaker 1: regarding rumors about a you know, alleged affair matters at home,
- 27:30Speaker 1: et cetera.
- 27:31Speaker 2: That's why all Mark's not there.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Well, he spoke to tssn's Claire Hannah emotional interview released
- 27:35Speaker 1: on Tuesday, the same day that Ottawa assigned Levi marijuana
- 27:38Speaker 1: to Belleville. The HL after the sends backup struggled in
- 27:41Speaker 1: relief of Olmarks. Olmark remains on indefinite leave and says
- 27:45Speaker 1: it's been and still is a journey. There's lots of
- 27:47Speaker 1: things going on, but the person I am today, in
- 27:48Speaker 1: the things I have learned the last couple of weeks,
- 27:50Speaker 1: has been invaluable to me, not just as a hockey player,
- 27:53Speaker 1: but as a person, as a father and a husband.
- 27:55Speaker 1: He reiterated that his absence is due to mental health
- 27:58Speaker 1: and these issues have happened since he.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Was traded to Ottawa in June of twenty twenty four.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Jada, you've talking about anxiety you have when you played hockey,
- 28:06Speaker 1: stress pressures. People don't realize this has just been a
- 28:09Speaker 1: bizarre story. This guy's getting over eight million dollars a year.
- 28:11Speaker 1: They're expecting to be a rock there, a net that
- 28:13Speaker 1: made the playoffs last year.
- 28:14Speaker 2: He leaves the team. You get the sensor not thrilled
- 28:17Speaker 2: about it.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Rumors come out of infidelity, riding on teammates, et cetera.
- 28:20Speaker 1: They got to put up this stay. But now he
- 28:21Speaker 1: comes out and says this, what do you make of this?
- 28:24Speaker 3: All of it, all of this drama. Yeah, I mean
- 28:26Speaker 3: powerful words by him. You know, he references, you know,
- 28:31Speaker 3: and you know you want to listen to somebody speak
- 28:35Speaker 3: like that to hear but you know, when you hear
- 28:36Speaker 3: him speak, you're kind of like, okay, this is this.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I can only imagine everything that came out just compounded
- 28:42Speaker 3: his feelings. But you know, again, it's explaining anxiety to people.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Is like people think that, oh, once you make the
- 28:48Speaker 3: NHL and you're making money, that that anxiety goes away. No,
- 28:51Speaker 3: it only compounds and gets more and more and more.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Because it's not necessarily that you know, the pressure you're
- 28:58Speaker 3: putting on yourself. But it's a negative thought pattern that
- 29:00Speaker 3: just keeps looping and you don't figure out a way
- 29:04Speaker 3: to kind of break that habit. It's a neurological connection,
- 29:08Speaker 3: so it's like you end up connecting any kind of
- 29:11Speaker 3: feeling of dread to this anxiety, and it just keeps
- 29:14Speaker 3: going in circles and circles and circles, and the circle
- 29:17Speaker 3: gets bigger until you know, he references it's a cup
- 29:21Speaker 3: that just keeps it gets overflowed with water and it's
- 29:23Speaker 3: too full and then it starts spilling over. So that's
- 29:27Speaker 3: kind of what happened to him. I've played with some
- 29:29Speaker 3: goalies too that that have It's a tough position as well,
- 29:32Speaker 3: pressure wise. When you think about it, like the game
- 29:34Speaker 3: hinges on you making a save, so even if you
- 29:37Speaker 3: make a turnover as a defenseman, the goalie can bail
- 29:39Speaker 3: you out. But if a goalie makes a mistakes, it's
- 29:42Speaker 3: in the back of his net. So you know, a
- 29:44Speaker 3: lot of goalies you see are a lot more in
- 29:47Speaker 3: you know, insular and they're they're they're not really outspoken
- 29:50Speaker 3: because you know, you got to be you got to
- 29:53Speaker 3: be rock solid in your brain. And I played with
- 29:55Speaker 3: some some goalies it had panic attacks before games in
- 29:58Speaker 3: myinancial career, and it's it's it's not fun. I've had
- 30:01Speaker 3: a couple of them, not before games, but some stuff
- 30:05Speaker 3: close and I just think it's it's important to talk
- 30:08Speaker 3: about it. And I think it's important to kind of,
- 30:11Speaker 3: you know, not again when it's always I advocate for
- 30:15Speaker 3: if you're feeling something, say something and go speak to
- 30:18Speaker 3: some of you have somebody can be an outlet for you.
- 30:20Speaker 3: So I think it was it was powerful what he said,
- 30:22Speaker 3: and and I like the interview, and I like the
- 30:25Speaker 3: vulnerability and and you know, I think it's becoming more
- 30:28Speaker 3: of a it's more of something that people are willing
- 30:31Speaker 3: to speak about because again, I think we're all we
- 30:34Speaker 3: all have it. It's not like we're some people don't
- 30:37Speaker 3: maybe at all, but we all have some semblance of it.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Whether it be small or big. It's just a human experience.
- 30:42Speaker 3: It really is that. So not thinking you're not alone,
- 30:45Speaker 3: I think is the most important thing. So it's good
- 30:47Speaker 3: for him to kind of get out there and speak.
- 30:50Speaker 3: And yeah, hopefully he figures out a way to kind
- 30:53Speaker 3: of keep it at Bay. And you saw the the
- 30:57Speaker 3: Ottawa Centers guys really kind of come out into support.
- 30:59Speaker 3: So I hope he's got a good support system, but yeah,
- 31:03Speaker 3: it's tough. He's going to really to kind of sit
- 31:05Speaker 3: with himself and figure out ways to find tricks and
- 31:08Speaker 3: tips and tools to knock this back otherwise. And it
- 31:12Speaker 3: kind of goes with the way he plays. He's very streaky.
- 31:15Speaker 3: When he's confident, he's one of the best goalies in
- 31:16Speaker 3: the league. But when he's not, he struggles mightily. So
- 31:20Speaker 3: I think it's just that all ties in with hist
- 31:23Speaker 3: his mental fortitude. So it's just gonna be something he's
- 31:25Speaker 3: gonna have to work on.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Yeah, at the very least, he's you know, trying to
- 31:28Speaker 1: work on himself, get the help he deserves, the needs.
- 31:30Speaker 1: And like you said in the past that people might
- 31:32Speaker 1: roll the rise, I think most people now are going
- 31:34Speaker 1: to be clearly on his side. And once he does
- 31:35Speaker 1: come back to Kayden Tyler Center and you'll see a
- 31:37Speaker 1: huge ovation people trying to support him and.
- 31:39Speaker 2: It get him back in that net. All right.
- 31:41Speaker 1: That story when it comes to Lena's omark other hockey matters,
- 31:43Speaker 1: we come back.
- 31:44Speaker 2: You're gonna love this interview, Corey Wong.
- 31:46Speaker 1: That's right, Walk, He's got a lot of great stories
- 31:49Speaker 1: entertaining guy loves the Pucks. It's music and hockey converging.
- 31:52Speaker 1: After this on NHL inscripted, Our next guest is an
- 32:09Speaker 1: acclaimed guitar as songwriter, bandleader, and producer known for his
- 32:12Speaker 1: prolific solo work as well as his collaborations with Wolfbuck,
- 32:15Speaker 1: The Fearless Flyers, Dave Cause and Dave Matthews. Been performing
- 32:20Speaker 1: at the Tucson Jazz Festival this weekend and is on
- 32:22Speaker 1: tour through March. In April, it was also raised in Minnesota,
- 32:25Speaker 1: the state of Hockey. Where were talking it is Corey
- 32:28Speaker 1: Won Corey. Great to see you man, Thanks for shaking
- 32:30Speaker 1: us some time.
- 32:31Speaker 5: Good to see you too, bro. It's nice to be here.
- 32:33Speaker 5: Thanks for having me.
- 32:35Speaker 1: You also have a new album coming out called Lost
- 32:37Speaker 1: in the Wonder and singles Blame It on the Moon
- 32:39Speaker 1: and Tongue Tied.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Tell us about the album, new album coming out. You
- 32:44Speaker 5: know a lot of people know me as a guitar player,
- 32:46Speaker 5: which you know, go figure for those of you that
- 32:48Speaker 5: can't see, I've got a load of guitars that the
- 32:52Speaker 5: guys were gushing over behind me here at my home studio.
- 32:55Speaker 5: A lot of people know me as a guitar player,
- 32:56Speaker 5: as they should, I guess, because you know, that's what
- 32:59Speaker 5: I tell Uncle Sam that I do. I'm a guitar player.
- 33:02Speaker 5: That's what I put on my taxes. But with this album,
- 33:07Speaker 5: you know, I wanted to, you know, explore and express
- 33:10Speaker 5: a different part of my artistry, and a lot of
- 33:12Speaker 5: that was in my songwriting and producing and arranging band leading.
- 33:17Speaker 5: So this album has a lot of vocal features and
- 33:21Speaker 5: just stuff that I co wrote with a bunch of collaborators.
- 33:24Speaker 5: So very exciting, fun stuff coming here.
- 33:27Speaker 3: I mean, Corey, it's so fun to have you here.
- 33:30Speaker 3: I mean, you come from a Minnesota music scene that
- 33:32Speaker 3: also gave us Prince Bob, Dylan, Morris, Day in the Time,
- 33:35Speaker 3: the Replacements, Jimmy jam Terry Lewis, and Minnesota. Do you
- 33:42Speaker 3: consider that kind of one of the more underrated musical
- 33:46Speaker 3: meccas in America?
- 33:48Speaker 5: I do. I think the people that have come here
- 33:51Speaker 5: and that know, they get it. I think one of
- 33:54Speaker 5: the things that's interesting about the Minneapolis music scene is
- 33:58Speaker 5: that it's not a traditional industry town quote unquote like
- 34:02Speaker 5: La Nashville, New York, London, whatever, But it's such a
- 34:08Speaker 5: rich and vibrant arts scene. So because we're not an
- 34:11Speaker 5: industry town. A lot of folks that play music here
- 34:16Speaker 5: or or do their art, they don't think as globally,
- 34:19Speaker 5: and yeah, that's it historically. I think it's a little
- 34:21Speaker 5: different now in the modern age of the Internet. But
- 34:24Speaker 5: the benefit of that is that we just focus on
- 34:29Speaker 5: the art and we focus on the music side of it.
- 34:33Speaker 5: And a lot of people are also like, dude, how
- 34:34Speaker 5: is there so many good musicians in Minnesota. It's like, well,
- 34:37Speaker 5: have you been to Minnesota January through March.
- 34:40Speaker 3: It's like a lot of blues there. Blues.
- 34:43Speaker 5: Yeah, It's like, I guess what I want to get
- 34:46Speaker 5: out on the outdoor rink today, But it's like negative
- 34:49Speaker 5: ten or something. So it's like a lot of people,
- 34:52Speaker 5: especially the people that aren't into winter sports, it's like,
- 34:56Speaker 5: I don't know, what are we gonna do? Come over,
- 34:58Speaker 5: let's play some guitar. I don't know, let's bring your bass.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:02Speaker 5: So there's a lot of indoor activity the and pre internet,
- 35:07Speaker 5: you know, it was one of those things where, well,
- 35:09Speaker 5: a bunch of kids just hanging out. Even even with
- 35:11Speaker 5: the Internet, you know, it's kids hanging out playing music together.
- 35:14Speaker 5: It's something to do.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Now, it's a good point.
- 35:16Speaker 1: That's where sometimes great collaborations come from. Your work with
- 35:18Speaker 1: Wolfpack has earned you plenty of attention. Where did that
- 35:21Speaker 1: first start?
- 35:21Speaker 5: Corey Well Wolfbeck started as Jack Stratton's college project. He
- 35:28Speaker 5: went to school at U of M. The other U
- 35:31Speaker 5: of them, I'm a U of M. University of Minnesota. Guy,
- 35:33Speaker 5: he's it's a U of M band. Right, it's University
- 35:36Speaker 5: of Michigan and University of Minnesota here whatever, but we
- 35:42Speaker 5: could say it's a U of M band. But it
- 35:44Speaker 5: was his his project at Michigan. He was going to
- 35:46Speaker 5: school for recording arts and you know, all that engineering,
- 35:50Speaker 5: and he basically started a YouTube channel, recorded a handful
- 35:54Speaker 5: of songs for a project, and then a year later
- 35:57Speaker 5: did it again. And then eventually people are catching on like,
- 36:00Speaker 5: oh this is cool. Well, you know, what's the deal
- 36:03Speaker 5: with your band. He's like, it's not a band. It's
- 36:04Speaker 5: like just a YouTube channel. I just like make music.
- 36:07Speaker 5: It's like no, no, no, guys like you're band. So then
- 36:10Speaker 5: eventually it's like, I gotta, you know, make this thing
- 36:14Speaker 5: a band. And then we started playing live ten years ago,
- 36:19Speaker 5: really kind of doing the thing, and then eventually it
- 36:22Speaker 5: grew and you know, now it's much more than just
- 36:25Speaker 5: a YouTube act. It's wild. You know how far we've come.
- 36:30Speaker 5: We just put out an album from our live show
- 36:32Speaker 5: at Madison Square Garden MSG two. It's our second garden
- 36:36Speaker 5: show and second live album from that, so it's pretty
- 36:40Speaker 5: pretty fun. I mean that buffet's been a wild ride.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Man.
- 36:42Speaker 5: It's a fun collective of musicians. It's one of those
- 36:45Speaker 5: things where it's friends first, band second. So it's it's
- 36:49Speaker 5: great nice.
- 36:50Speaker 3: I mean, I wanted to add you mentioned kind of
- 36:53Speaker 3: social media twice, Like for you, how has technology kind
- 36:56Speaker 3: of shaped, you know, in terms of social media, the
- 36:59Speaker 3: way you go about producing, releasing music and and just
- 37:04Speaker 3: how you promote it.
- 37:07Speaker 5: I mean it's everything for us now. Sorry, my camera
- 37:10Speaker 5: goes berserk.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Here, there's no video elment. Your audio is great, all.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Right, all right, good? You know, social media is like
- 37:18Speaker 5: everything for us now because it's how we let people
- 37:21Speaker 5: know what's going on. You don't need to have the
- 37:25Speaker 5: the street team of people in every city plastering posters
- 37:29Speaker 5: and whatnot. You don't have to go through the the
- 37:33Speaker 5: channels of major labels and all that sort of thing.
- 37:36Speaker 5: So for an indie artist like myself and with both
- 37:39Speaker 5: tech and fearless flyers. We're able to do such big
- 37:41Speaker 5: things and maintain independent basically because of social media, like
- 37:47Speaker 5: we can we can let people know what we're doing,
- 37:51Speaker 5: we can invite people in on parts of our lives
- 37:53Speaker 5: and parts of the process, and I think a lot
- 37:56Speaker 5: of people embrace that. Some people it's not their thing. Fine,
- 38:00Speaker 5: some people still find success in it, but for so
- 38:02Speaker 5: many independent artists it's such a big thing. And the
- 38:07Speaker 5: other side of that is, you know, maybe people feel
- 38:10Speaker 5: obligated to do certain things. I certainly do sometimes like
- 38:14Speaker 5: oh I probably should do this, yeah, And my manager
- 38:17Speaker 5: will even tell me, like, dude, you should be doing
- 38:19Speaker 5: this thing on TikTok. I'm like, nah, I don't want to.
- 38:22Speaker 5: That doesn't feel fun to me. So the parts of
- 38:25Speaker 5: social media that I do are the things that feel fun,
- 38:28Speaker 5: you know. I like to keep it authentic and actually
- 38:31Speaker 5: me I think. I think fans nowadays are smart enough
- 38:34Speaker 5: to know like, oh, yeah, you're just like trying to
- 38:37Speaker 5: do that trend.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I know, if you're being a douchebag now or.
- 38:40Speaker 5: Not well yeah yeah, or if you're just trying too
- 38:43Speaker 5: hard you know, which sometimes we do.
- 38:47Speaker 1: It happens all but you're write sometimes you don't want
- 38:49Speaker 1: to do it me. You feel like it's a devil
- 38:50Speaker 1: you have to feed. Let's talk a little bit of hockey.
- 38:52Speaker 1: You've been able to compete right wild celebrity hockey games,
- 38:54Speaker 1: favorite player to skate with, who's had a nice interaction.
- 38:57Speaker 2: You've been able to enjoy.
- 38:59Speaker 5: I met Mike Madonna when I was seven years old. Wow,
- 39:02Speaker 5: Ford dealership. My dad brought me. I don't know what
- 39:07Speaker 5: was going on. There's like something on a Friday afternoon
- 39:11Speaker 5: and my dad's like, you're not going to school today.
- 39:13Speaker 5: I'm like yes, She's like even better. Madonna is hanging
- 39:17Speaker 5: out at a Ford dealership, signing autographs, doing a meet
- 39:21Speaker 5: and greet. And you know, this is when the Norse
- 39:24Speaker 5: Stars were playing in Minnesota before they moved in ninety
- 39:27Speaker 5: three to ninety four whatever that was right after. This
- 39:32Speaker 5: was right after their Stanley Cup run against the Penguins. Yeah,
- 39:37Speaker 5: bummer of a turnout there. We went to a handful
- 39:39Speaker 5: of the Stanley Cup final games. It was incredible. Madonna
- 39:44Speaker 5: was just hanging out and it was my dad, my
- 39:46Speaker 5: brother and I and like two sales guys like why
- 39:49Speaker 5: is nobody here? So I choked. I just choked. I'm like,
- 39:53Speaker 5: I don't know what to say to this guy. I'm
- 39:54Speaker 5: a little kid. This is my hero. My dad's like,
- 39:57Speaker 5: I don't know, just like ask him some tips about hockey,
- 40:00Speaker 5: and you know, he just gave some some generic answers.
- 40:03Speaker 5: But he was a nice guy, a nervous couple of
- 40:05Speaker 5: kids hanging. So skating with Madonna at at Yeah a
- 40:10Speaker 5: couple of years ago was pretty fun playing having him
- 40:13Speaker 5: at center and just telling me like, hey, just like,
- 40:15Speaker 5: stay in your position, do this, do this. I'm like, bro,
- 40:17Speaker 5: I'm not gonna be able to keep up with you,
- 40:19Speaker 5: Like I I can't hang just like you guys do.
- 40:24Speaker 5: I'm gonna stay over on the side here.
- 40:26Speaker 3: It was.
- 40:26Speaker 5: It was great. Madonna was fun to skate with.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Is that well? I mean you're you lived out kind
- 40:31Speaker 3: of majority of hockey fans dreams and and you know
- 40:34Speaker 3: you got to launch the Minnesota Whild the alumni association
- 40:37Speaker 3: with Oar, who's a great band as well. How did
- 40:40Speaker 3: that kind of come together? And was that kind of
- 40:43Speaker 3: one of the highlights or what's the highlights been so
- 40:46Speaker 3: far for you with the Wild alumni?
- 40:48Speaker 5: Yeah, that was just such a fun event to be
- 40:52Speaker 5: a part of. And I didn't know. I didn't plan
- 40:55Speaker 5: on this happening. I I was trying to find like
- 40:58Speaker 5: talking about social media. I was trying to find fun
- 41:00Speaker 5: ways for my band to do just performances, and like, oh,
- 41:03Speaker 5: what's something cool we can do. What's a challenge? So
- 41:06Speaker 5: I put on this thing called Wong on Ice where
- 41:10Speaker 5: we went to the nice Charles Schultz Arena, Yes, the
- 41:13Speaker 5: Peanuts guy, this arena in Highland Park in Saint Paul.
- 41:19Speaker 5: That we went there and I brought my whole band
- 41:22Speaker 5: set up. I had to go like, I couldn't find
- 41:24Speaker 5: any school or any organization to help me get pads
- 41:28Speaker 5: and like gear for my band, so I just hoking.
- 41:31Speaker 5: I went to Pure Hockey and I was just like,
- 41:33Speaker 5: I need twelve sets of breezers. I need a bunch
- 41:38Speaker 5: of pads and helmets, you know. So they're sitting in
- 41:41Speaker 5: my story still. But I had custom jerseys made. We
- 41:45Speaker 5: did this whole thing where my band played on the
- 41:47Speaker 5: ice rink, and then the guys from OAR, who are
- 41:50Speaker 5: good friends of Min, were like, dude, I didn't know
- 41:51Speaker 5: you were a hockey guy. I'm super into this. I'm
- 41:54Speaker 5: actually good friends with this guy that works at the
- 41:56Speaker 5: Wild are you a Wild fan of like, are you
- 41:58Speaker 5: kidding me? So we all connected and then they were
- 42:01Speaker 5: talking about launching the Wild Alumni Association, and then we figured,
- 42:05Speaker 5: let's let's do a big concert, let's do a big fundraiser,
- 42:09Speaker 5: let's do a fun game, and that's it. Dude, it was.
- 42:14Speaker 5: It happened, you know. We we started talking in the fall,
- 42:18Speaker 5: and then it happened the next summer. So it was great.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Well, how hard was it to play instruments in hockey year?
- 42:26Speaker 3: Good question.
- 42:27Speaker 5: For a lot of the guys, it was tough because
- 42:31Speaker 5: six out of the ten band members had just basically
- 42:35Speaker 5: never been on skates.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Oh no.
- 42:38Speaker 5: But for those of us that grew up in Minnesota
- 42:40Speaker 5: that are in my band, just like, yeah, this is
- 42:42Speaker 5: what you do. This is like you do that in
- 42:44Speaker 5: gym class, you know. So for those of us that
- 42:47Speaker 5: were that were familiar with skating and playing hockey, it
- 42:50Speaker 5: was so much fun. I made my drummer wear skates
- 42:53Speaker 5: playing on the drums. It's one guy, Sonny t who
- 42:58Speaker 5: plays Basement Band, who was also in Prince's band and
- 43:01Speaker 5: fun fact, was Prince's guitar teacher. Wow on he's og,
- 43:05Speaker 5: he's an O. He was like I'm not getting on
- 43:08Speaker 5: those skates, dude. He's like, I can't fall. I'm too
- 43:10Speaker 5: old for this. I'm like, all right, let's park the
- 43:13Speaker 5: zamboni behind us. You just get up. We can't. We
- 43:16Speaker 5: like ushered him on the ice, got him up on
- 43:19Speaker 5: the zamboni. He's sitting on the zamboni behind and I
- 43:21Speaker 5: was playing bass. It was great.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Oh that's awesome, man, that's definitely great memories.
- 43:27Speaker 3: And Prince's guitar teacher that.
- 43:31Speaker 2: It's like learning from Dylan singing coach. I'm like, okay, well,
- 43:33Speaker 2: let's get clean us what they're doing. I want to.
- 43:36Speaker 5: I don't know, maybe that's a little different. I mean,
- 43:38Speaker 5: I love Dylan songwriting, but it's a little different. All
- 43:44Speaker 5: all respect to Dylan, but the technical facility and the
- 43:48Speaker 5: the control of the instrument as far as Prince's guitar playing,
- 43:52Speaker 5: might be in a different league, but different, all all
- 43:57Speaker 5: respect to Dylan.
- 43:58Speaker 1: No, you're right, while I'm in a huge statement this year,
- 44:01Speaker 1: Corey by acquiring Quinn Hughes. Your thoughts on the team
- 44:03Speaker 1: right now, I mean, it's a fac The division is
- 44:05Speaker 1: so tough, but Hughes is such an electric player. I
- 44:07Speaker 1: was just at the game in Toronto and saw the
- 44:09Speaker 1: Wild win sixty three.
- 44:10Speaker 2: This is a team right now. They're missing pieces.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Matt bould Is out, Joel ericson X out, but they're
- 44:15Speaker 1: obviously thrilled with Croll the thrilled obviously Quinn Hughes now
- 44:17Speaker 1: in the mix.
- 44:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, it's insane. It's so much fun to watch.
- 44:21Speaker 5: It's fun to be a fan. When the trade first happened,
- 44:25Speaker 5: the hometown vibe was a little bit like, I don't know, dude,
- 44:28Speaker 5: like what we love Booyam, Like, oh, it's like so
- 44:32Speaker 5: much fun. Buoyam was so fun. There was this young
- 44:34Speaker 5: energy ROSSI uh was a bit of a fan favorite
- 44:38Speaker 5: for a lot of people. Seemed like just kind of
- 44:41Speaker 5: Midwest quiet guys to kind of fit in in Minnesota.
- 44:45Speaker 5: Liam Ogrin somebody who was likable. Yeah, surey wasn't producing
- 44:50Speaker 5: as much, but I liked the guy, and it's fun
- 44:51Speaker 5: to see him actually doing a lot, doing more numbers
- 44:55Speaker 5: in Vancouver. But a lot of people were uncertain at first,
- 44:58Speaker 5: and then it's like, wait a minute, guys, this is
- 45:01Speaker 5: Quinn Hughes. This is a cat dude, And now everybody
- 45:05Speaker 5: is just so stoked. It's really fun to see it's
- 45:08Speaker 5: fun to see the team fire and fire and fired
- 45:11Speaker 5: up about everything, the fan base fired up. Like you said,
- 45:14Speaker 5: it's tough right now, not just Ek and Boldie, but
- 45:18Speaker 5: having Brodeine out sucks. Having Bogosian out has has not
- 45:23Speaker 5: been awesome. But I think it's it's fun to see
- 45:26Speaker 5: some of the other Cats step up and kind of
- 45:29Speaker 5: see some minutes on the ice and you know, we're
- 45:33Speaker 5: we're really excited here. You know, there's obviously a lot
- 45:35Speaker 5: of talk about other moves that could be made for
- 45:38Speaker 5: the team, which are exciting, but also again one of
- 45:41Speaker 5: those things that we're nervous, like, yeah, but what are
- 45:43Speaker 5: we gonna have to move? What are we gonna have
- 45:45Speaker 5: to to do?
- 45:46Speaker 3: Gott to push your chips in sometimes.
- 45:48Speaker 2: One thing about Billy Karen's he's ippressive.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Yeah, gotta go for it sometimes. Yeah.
- 45:53Speaker 5: So everybody here is is like, let's just get rid
- 45:56Speaker 5: of all our picks for the next however long. We
- 45:58Speaker 5: don't want to see anybody go. It's like, yeah, picks
- 46:01Speaker 5: and prospects or what everybody wants wants to give up,
- 46:05Speaker 5: but we'll see what happens. It's exciting.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Well what do you make of you know, there's a
- 46:11Speaker 3: little bit of a You know, Minnesota's been the state
- 46:13Speaker 3: of hockey for so long, and now Florida's kind of
- 46:17Speaker 3: usurping the throne with six finals in the last six years.
- 46:20Speaker 3: What are your thoughts on Florida becoming the state of
- 46:23Speaker 3: hockey and and is that just a little bit disrespectful
- 46:27Speaker 3: to your hometown home state.
- 46:31Speaker 5: Can somebody pull the numbers on youth hockey participation in
- 46:35Speaker 5: Florida Minnesota? Can somebody pull the numbers on the Florida
- 46:40Speaker 5: State Hockey tournament versus Minnesota? Can anybody let's let's pull
- 46:46Speaker 5: the numbers on Why don't you find every average mom
- 46:52Speaker 5: from the age thirty to fifty and test their knowledge
- 46:55Speaker 5: on hockey. You go to a Minnesota Wild game, there
- 46:58Speaker 5: is a forty seven year old woman who knows more
- 47:01Speaker 5: about hockey than ninety nine percent of anybody in Florida.
- 47:08Speaker 5: You know these are if you're gonna come at people
- 47:10Speaker 5: with fighting words, I'm just gonna pull the stats. I'm
- 47:15Speaker 5: just gonna pull the numbers. I I I hate to
- 47:19Speaker 5: talk too bad on Florida because two of the other
- 47:22Speaker 5: guys in Wolfpeck are huge Panthers fans. Jacob je He
- 47:27Speaker 5: grew up in Fort Lauderdale, has been a Panthers guy
- 47:30Speaker 5: through thick and thin, through thin and now thick. I
- 47:34Speaker 5: guess yeah, A.
- 47:39Speaker 3: How's that rivalry?
- 47:41Speaker 5: It's it's it's fun. Like it's when the when the
- 47:44Speaker 5: Panthers came to town last year, I invited the guys out.
- 47:47Speaker 5: They came and stayed them out. We all will sleep
- 47:49Speaker 5: over little NHL xbox hanged for a couple of nights
- 47:54Speaker 5: and went to the went to the game, had a
- 47:55Speaker 5: good time. You know, we we respect each other's teams,
- 47:59Speaker 5: and you know, I get that there. They're Panthers guys
- 48:03Speaker 5: and it's fun. I'm not I'm not going to fight
- 48:05Speaker 5: them on it. But if you're gonna say Florida is
- 48:09Speaker 5: a hockey state versus Minnesota, you know that's so's again,
- 48:14Speaker 5: let's pull the numbers.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Okay, I love the he came with receipts.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Well, okay, here here, here's here's the other step. How
- 48:23Speaker 5: many how many NHL ers grew up in Florida versus
- 48:26Speaker 5: how many NHLers grew up in Minnesota?
- 48:29Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 48:30Speaker 5: How many people go to a high school specifically to
- 48:34Speaker 5: train their hockey skills in Florida versus shatt a Saint
- 48:38Speaker 5: Mary and you know, and it's a little shot.
- 48:44Speaker 3: I like, yeah, I like you. I'm from Montreal, so
- 48:47Speaker 3: I listen. I I get it when I hear the
- 48:49Speaker 3: Florida stuff. I scoff.
- 48:51Speaker 2: It's like high schooling years.
- 48:54Speaker 3: And your you're nice one piece sticks to Florida and
- 48:58Speaker 3: start talking about how you don't know how to grind
- 49:00Speaker 3: on the outdoor hockey rink.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Ten Well, the World Juniors just happened, and people were
- 49:06Speaker 1: upset because they said, well, the attendance wasn't great in Minnesota,
- 49:09Speaker 1: Saint Paul and I said, listen, they care more about
- 49:11Speaker 1: high school hockey.
- 49:12Speaker 2: They care more about the Gophers. Corey.
- 49:13Speaker 1: I remember for years some of the north Stars would
- 49:15Speaker 1: be upset. They said they care more about golfers, and
- 49:17Speaker 1: they do about the north Stars. That great scene in Fargo,
- 49:20Speaker 1: well watching their weight Golphers, true or false? They care
- 49:23Speaker 1: more about the Golphers than the wild winning a cup.
- 49:27Speaker 5: I mean that that was probably true, yes, until I
- 49:32Speaker 5: think recent. I mean, the Gophers are so much fun
- 49:34Speaker 5: to see. Mary Ucci is a great arena, fun place
- 49:39Speaker 5: to watch a game. The Juniors thing that was weird,
- 49:43Speaker 5: and I do feel like the marketing wasn't as prominent
- 49:47Speaker 5: here in Minnesota. Just boots on the ground. It didn't
- 49:51Speaker 5: feel like there was as much buzz being built around it. Okay,
- 49:55Speaker 5: I go to the majority of the wild Home Games.
- 49:58Speaker 5: I didn't see a bunch of marketing at those games.
- 50:01Speaker 5: I didn't see much marketing at the Frost Games. It's
- 50:05Speaker 5: just like, didn't feel like there was a lot of
- 50:08Speaker 5: push within the community. It's like, oh, of course everybody
- 50:11Speaker 5: knows this is happening, so we don't need to let
- 50:14Speaker 5: people know about it as much. I mean, I went
- 50:17Speaker 5: the one day the Stanley Cup was at the River Center,
- 50:20Speaker 5: which is where the big event was happening next to
- 50:23Speaker 5: Grand Casino Arena formerly Excel Energy Center. Stanley Cup was
- 50:28Speaker 5: there at ten thirty am. We open, so I was like,
- 50:32Speaker 5: oh my gosh, we got to get there early. Everybody's
- 50:34Speaker 5: gonna be there. My kids want to see the cup,
- 50:36Speaker 5: you know, I want to shake hands with Phil. We
- 50:39Speaker 5: get there at ten twenty, there's not a single person
- 50:42Speaker 5: in line. We get at ten thirty. We're just hanging
- 50:46Speaker 5: out with the cup for like thirty minutes with nobody
- 50:49Speaker 5: else there. My kids playing you know, target practice on
- 50:53Speaker 5: the We had the play store. It's like we rented
- 50:55Speaker 5: it out. It was insane.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Well, how does nobody know about this marketing?
- 51:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I gotta get them on social media there, And Corey,
- 51:05Speaker 3: I wanted to ask you because I always like asking, Like,
- 51:07Speaker 3: you know, my wife's an actress, and I like asking
- 51:10Speaker 3: artists as well of like you know, traveling and performing
- 51:14Speaker 3: in front of thousands of fans and stuff like that,
- 51:16Speaker 3: Like musicians and hockey players, Like there's there are parallels
- 51:20Speaker 3: and it's not that different. Like if you ever kind
- 51:22Speaker 3: of exchange road stories with some of the players in
- 51:25Speaker 3: the alumni and are there any kind of road stories
- 51:27Speaker 3: that stick out to you that that you kind of
- 51:30Speaker 3: felt like, Oh, I'm kind of borderline a hockey player
- 51:34Speaker 3: right now.
- 51:36Speaker 5: Well, sometimes it's mid tour, like you know, you take
- 51:39Speaker 5: a look at a hockey team that's on a road trip.
- 51:42Speaker 5: Wild just did an extended road trip, which, by the way,
- 51:45Speaker 5: was fine. I went down to California. It was over
- 51:47Speaker 5: my kid's break, so he went to the Anaheim game
- 51:51Speaker 5: and the two Kings games. It was a great opportunity
- 51:54Speaker 5: for a Minnesota and to go see a couple arenas
- 51:57Speaker 5: and it was just at the perfect time of year.
- 52:00Speaker 5: But you take a look at a team that's on
- 52:01Speaker 5: a road trip. You just gotta keep going. You go,
- 52:05Speaker 5: wake up, go from this place to the next ye
- 52:07Speaker 5: and people are expecting you to perform. You are expecting
- 52:11Speaker 5: that out of yourself and everybody else up there when
- 52:14Speaker 5: an artist is on tour. When I'm on tour and
- 52:17Speaker 5: it's show seventeen of a thirty show run, like, guess what.
- 52:22Speaker 5: These people paid just as much for tickets as the
- 52:25Speaker 5: folks on show one and Show thirty. We need to
- 52:28Speaker 5: give them the best show that we can. I have
- 52:31Speaker 5: to give myself the respect and the band the respect
- 52:34Speaker 5: to give it my all, to give it everything, no
- 52:36Speaker 5: matter how tired I am, no matter how I slept
- 52:40Speaker 5: the night before on the bus or whatever. You just
- 52:44Speaker 5: have to You have to perform. You have to deliver.
- 52:47Speaker 5: And some days you do really well. Some days you
- 52:49Speaker 5: have a bad gig. And I think anybody that does
- 52:53Speaker 5: that sort of thing where there's expectations tied to your
- 52:55Speaker 5: performance night after night, yeah, there's somewhat of a kindred
- 53:01Speaker 5: spirit in that.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Well, you over delivered this time. Corey Wong once again
- 53:05Speaker 1: his album is coming out. It's called Lost in the Wonder,
- 53:08Speaker 1: singles right now. Blame it on the moon tongue tied.
- 53:10Speaker 1: He is a passionate Minnesota hockey fan, obviously no standing musician.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Corey, this is awesome, dude, go wild. We appreciate you.
- 53:17Speaker 5: Thanks so much for having me go wild.
- 53:27Speaker 2: All right, thanks so much to Crey. We'll get some
- 53:29Speaker 2: more stories here in just a second.
- 53:30Speaker 1: My first cinephile in sixty Oscar Dominations come out tomorrow,
- 53:34Speaker 1: so we'll talk about that next week.
- 53:36Speaker 2: Again. The contenders, you all know at this point, one
- 53:38Speaker 2: battle after another. Marty Supreme.
- 53:40Speaker 3: Oh, I saw Marty Supreme.
- 53:42Speaker 2: You did? Okay, yeah, stip on sixty go ahead, but
- 53:46Speaker 2: did you did? You didn't?
- 53:47Speaker 3: You already did? Barty, I did.
- 53:48Speaker 1: But I want to hear your thoughts on it now.
- 53:50Speaker 1: I've seen it twice. I thought it was great, that
- 53:53Speaker 1: really good.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Supported I see all the script from Arty Supreme that.
- 53:57Speaker 3: I thought it was a little you know again, I
- 53:59Speaker 3: always think, you know, movies nowadays are too long. That's fair.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Two twenty five is a little long, and it's like
- 54:04Speaker 3: we it just it and you know it's funny. I
- 54:07Speaker 3: think like Safty has that blueprint with like I thought,
- 54:11Speaker 3: but again he just he tweaked the ending, like I
- 54:13Speaker 3: thought this was another uncut Gems or he's got to
- 54:16Speaker 3: struggle through all this ship and then gets to the
- 54:18Speaker 3: final heat elation and then he dies or something doesn't
- 54:23Speaker 3: work and it does. It's not a benefit, but it was.
- 54:24Speaker 3: It was a very nice ending, very sweet how how
- 54:27Speaker 3: they kind of came full circle. And he's great in it.
- 54:31Speaker 2: Give shell me the Oscar.
- 54:32Speaker 1: Fantastic performance, just playing a very unlikable protagonist, obnoxious but hysterical.
- 54:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought he was. I thought he's so sharp
- 54:41Speaker 3: and witty in it. It's so funny, just in dry.
- 54:43Speaker 3: He's great, just great.
- 54:45Speaker 1: When his uncle tries to have him morest he says
- 54:47Speaker 1: the copicause how much is he paying you? I'll double
- 54:49Speaker 1: it and then you can suck my dick Like that's
- 54:54Speaker 1: like some of these witticisms, and the ping punk scene
- 54:56Speaker 1: is obviously well done. And like tal had mentioned before,
- 54:58Speaker 1: just the the non professional actors, like Leary's unbelievable playing
- 55:02Speaker 1: Gwyneth Paltrow's husband like he's the.
- 55:04Speaker 3: Old only one. I thought that was. I thought he
- 55:06Speaker 3: was well listen for no acting experience. I thought he
- 55:09Speaker 3: was okay. It was good if you didn't think.
- 55:11Speaker 1: I thought he was especially Shalom. Yeah, the paddle, because
- 55:16Speaker 1: what are you willing to do? Yeah, well, kind of
- 55:19Speaker 1: playing himself.
- 55:20Speaker 4: I will just know that it's Yeah, there's a major
- 55:22Speaker 4: shark tank energy in the performance.
- 55:25Speaker 3: Yeah, but did shal May mind to get paddled when
- 55:27Speaker 3: he was just giving it to Gwyneth the whole movie?
- 55:30Speaker 2: How about the.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Fact that they get stopped the park by one wasn't
- 55:33Speaker 1: they're making it was going down on her. He gets
- 55:35Speaker 1: stopped potentially eating out a girl. And that's when the
- 55:37Speaker 1: cop flashes the lighting. Oh my god, what it's fun
- 55:40Speaker 1: to be in.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Take this watch, take this chain, Take whatever you want. Well.
- 55:43Speaker 3: I love how they showed the corruption of the police
- 55:46Speaker 3: force back in the fifties because both cops that got
- 55:51Speaker 3: shown in the movie were you. They were getting bribed,
- 55:55Speaker 3: one was getting paid money, the other one took the
- 55:57Speaker 3: diamond necklace.
- 56:00Speaker 2: It's a good point.
- 56:00Speaker 1: It's actually indictment of police corruption. That's really what Marty
- 56:02Speaker 1: Souprate was all about. People don't realize that in the moment.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Safti's but as you said, he's.
- 56:07Speaker 2: A good brother. Now we know we know who the
- 56:09Speaker 2: talented brother is.
- 56:09Speaker 3: Now that fucking guy really likes like that dog.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Well, that dog able for our unbelievable. I'm like, whatever
- 56:16Speaker 1: I'll do for the dog.
- 56:16Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 56:17Speaker 1: I mean that shot when the guy's face gets blown off, unbelievable.
- 56:20Speaker 2: When they go back, okay, they only see anything in there.
- 56:24Speaker 3: I looked at Jill right when he was knocking on
- 56:26Speaker 3: the glass and said, he gowned. Yeah, he's getting his
- 56:30Speaker 3: head blown off, but an exhilarating thrill.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Right, I'm glad you enjoyed it. He's a great movie, fantastic.
- 56:36Speaker 1: What I want to talk about, though, is I'm Chevy
- 56:38Speaker 1: Chase and You're not. New documentary came out of scene
- 56:41Speaker 1: and directed by Marina Zenovich. In depth words, it all
- 56:44Speaker 1: look at the complex life and career of Chevy Chase
- 56:46Speaker 1: ninety seven minutes.
- 56:47Speaker 2: It actually premiered on New Year's Date.
- 56:49Speaker 1: It's now available on streaming platforms including Max and I
- 56:52Speaker 1: thought it was highly entertaining and very enjoyable.
- 56:54Speaker 2: This is a guy who has been very controversial.
- 56:57Speaker 1: Now back to the day who didn't love Chevy Chase right,
- 56:59Speaker 1: European vacation Fletch, Fletch lives, et cetera. But he's kind
- 57:03Speaker 1: of persona grata within the acting community, and it has
- 57:06Speaker 1: been for a long time. And when I read the
- 57:08Speaker 1: S and L book, I saw part of the reason why.
- 57:09Speaker 1: And they tell the story of the book. Jim Miller,
- 57:11Speaker 1: fabulous writer James Andrew Miller, course legendary writer, wrote a
- 57:14Speaker 1: book about not only S.
- 57:16Speaker 2: And L but also ESPN, et cetera.
- 57:18Speaker 1: But Jim tells the story not only in the book
- 57:20Speaker 1: but also in the documentary. They said, you know, Chevy
- 57:22Speaker 1: Chase was the kind of guy it's just no filter.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Whatever he says, he's gonna just gonna say it and
- 57:26Speaker 1: defend people. For example, when he met one of the
- 57:28Speaker 1: cast members who was gay, Chevy Chase up to He's like, oh,
- 57:31Speaker 1: you're you're the gay cast member, right, He's okay, He's like, okay,
- 57:33Speaker 1: he's the guy said to anything you need help, He's yeah,
- 57:36Speaker 1: you can start by licking my balls. And like it's
- 57:39Speaker 1: a kind of reaction where that's common. I sactly, some
- 57:42Speaker 1: guys will laugh, like he's a comedian. Some guys are
- 57:44Speaker 1: gonna be offended. Later on, they had an idea, you know,
- 57:47Speaker 1: pitch meeting, et cetera. And they listen, you know this,
- 57:48Speaker 1: they pitch one hundred ideas, how.
- 57:50Speaker 2: Many sketches actually make it. But one of the chimp chans goes, waybite,
- 57:52Speaker 2: we should do this sketch.
- 57:54Speaker 1: We should do one with a gay actor, because that
- 57:55Speaker 1: guy goes, yeah, he goes We'll pretend he has aides
- 57:58Speaker 1: and we'll just keep showing how much he weighs, like
- 58:00Speaker 1: in each successive second. Everyone's like, uh, that is either funny,
- 58:04Speaker 1: nor entertaining nor practically called for it, and like, but
- 58:07Speaker 1: this is Chevy Chase.
- 58:08Speaker 2: He's just gonna speak his mind. Who is you know
- 58:10Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 58:10Speaker 1: And so it becomes this conversation between Okay, what's acceptable
- 58:14Speaker 1: in terms of comedy and then what's acceptable just in life,
- 58:18Speaker 1: Like how often can you say, well, it's just Chevy
- 58:19Speaker 1: be and Chevy like.
- 58:20Speaker 2: No, you're just being an asshole.
- 58:21Speaker 1: And eventually it gets the whole situation with community and
- 58:24Speaker 1: the guy who runs can be a chay changer saker.
- 58:26Speaker 2: He's like, listen, dude, I love Chevy Chase.
- 58:27Speaker 1: He's like, I adore these guys, like I love the movies,
- 58:29Speaker 1: but like he's a paan in the assid deal. He's difficult,
- 58:31Speaker 1: but we'd go at it. He'd yell at me. I
- 58:34Speaker 1: yell at him, we do the take.
- 58:35Speaker 2: It was fine.
- 58:36Speaker 1: Eventually he loses the job because apparently he said the
- 58:39Speaker 1: N word, And in part of his defense, he said,
- 58:42Speaker 1: Richard Pryor and I were buddies on SNL, Like if
- 58:45Speaker 1: that famous sketch right, he calls what honkey drops the nward,
- 58:47Speaker 1: et cetera. He goes like, I would call him the emword.
- 58:49Speaker 1: He'd say this stuff to me, and they're like, yeah,
- 58:51Speaker 1: but Chevy, you just you can't use this.
- 58:53Speaker 2: Kind of language and therefore's gonna cost you a job.
- 58:56Speaker 1: But what I found the documentary was fascinating was Chevy
- 58:58Speaker 1: Chase is not apologetic for any of this stuff. Now,
- 59:01Speaker 1: it'd be one thing if the documentaryud go you know
- 59:03Speaker 1: what I mean? He's like, no, because this is why
- 59:05Speaker 1: the funniest lending thought that he is. She goes, what
- 59:07Speaker 1: do you think of the perception you're not particularly well liked.
- 59:09Speaker 1: He goes, oh, I have lots of friends and they
- 59:11Speaker 1: all like me, and the people who don't like me
- 59:13Speaker 1: fuck them.
- 59:17Speaker 2: It was so funy the way he said it, like.
- 59:19Speaker 1: He's an eighty year old man who's like no, Like
- 59:21Speaker 1: I've got lots of money, I've got friends, I lived
- 59:22Speaker 1: my life and if you don't like me, fuck you.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Dan ackro is my friend, Lord Michael's my friend, Martin Schorlick.
- 59:27Speaker 2: He's still got his buddies.
- 59:28Speaker 1: He's definitely an interesting guy, but at times they call
- 59:31Speaker 1: him cruel. But as you and I both said before,
- 59:33Speaker 1: me said this with I believe Alex Moffatt JD mean
- 59:35Speaker 1: an ext the point he is.
- 59:36Speaker 2: All comedians they got a little mean streak in them.
- 59:38Speaker 2: I'm like one hundred percent.
- 59:39Speaker 1: So of the funniest people I know, they're pretty mean
- 59:42Speaker 1: and they can be met and there's this sense of
- 59:44Speaker 1: cruelty and they come from that aspect. So Chevy Chase,
- 59:46Speaker 1: to me, is just more open about it. Where's other
- 59:48Speaker 1: guys more concealing your thoughts.
- 59:51Speaker 3: Well, I think that's a perfect way to cap it off.
- 59:53Speaker 3: It's like that is that is comedy right as you're
- 59:56Speaker 3: blurring that line of like being a douchebag like cause
- 59:59Speaker 3: you have to kind of for certain types of comedians,
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: you have to go to that place and you have
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: to think of the worst possible I don't know which
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: comedians said, but you got to think of the worst
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: possible tragedy and then try to make it funny, and
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: it's like they're able to find levity in situations that
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: you don't think need it require it, And I mean
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: that's kind of the pist. So it's like it's interesting singing.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: I'm sure he is a douchebag, but if you like douchebags,
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: then he's for you. But I'm sure he's like again,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: he's he's authentic. Maybe he plays into it a little bit,
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: but he's been polarizing for years.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't want to hang with him, like I person
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: wouldn't like No, I'd be like, hey, you're good.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: I think he's funny as hell, Like I.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the thing of like there's people you're just like,
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: you're funny, But I would not want to hang out
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: with you.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: No Variety, by the way, described the movie a fascinating
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: look at his flip side of his genius and his
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: casual cruelty.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: The hollyod Reporter.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Called it a gripping, funny and stifled, at times melancholic look.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: At the age year old comedian.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Great stuff from his wife, his daughters of course, who
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: love him support him. That I thought that that's what
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: was interesting thing. You know what we don't crap in
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: our dat at the time. He's off for everybody's our dad.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: He's been a great dat, etcetera. Tell your thoughts on
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Chevy Chase.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: He's certainly developed a reputation, you know, over the past
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: several years. Mark Mark Marin has mentioned a story several
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: times about appearing at a Chevy Chase roast and how
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: it was basically the worst moment of his professional career.
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: And he claimed that that like none of his friends
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: showed up, Like there were no friends. It was just
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: kind of former colleagues who are jumping at the opportunity
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: to to roast Chevy Chase.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: You know, I think he might not have any friends.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: He might just you know, it's people that he says
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: are his friends, and maybe he's just putting on this facade.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Who knows.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: I think he's due a career retrospect.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: I mean, this guy was legitimately one of the biggest
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: stars in the world at some point, and his persona
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: was kind of as like a jerk. That was his
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: stage persona. Right, So it tracks. I guess I'll definitely
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: check it out. Looks like a fascinating film.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Yeah, she's a good documentary, did a great doc and
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Robert Williams coming sub and Mind. Also Doc and Lancer
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Shrunk Soritovich is a very good documentary.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: And definitely check it out. All right. The other topics
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: for you.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Rick Bonus after hiring Columbus won three strip for Tuesday Night.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Bones is back a bag of bones, a seven year
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: old coaching life. I mean, this is unbeill what he's
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: doing right now. Bonus actually coached the dads of three
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: of his current players, Mason Marchmont, cole Cylinger, and Miles Wood.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: I love it. Let's go Columbus, Jady. This is great
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: news for Bones.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Yeah, well they dropped the last one yesterday, but.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Yeah, uh yeah.
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: I think listen, Bones, he's very honest with his players.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: I don't know how many players have said a bad
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: thing about him, So I think it's great to me.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: How about that TNT. Everybody that's on the panel, a
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: teen t gets a coaching job.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Rick Tocket, Rick Bonus, Ye, Bubey Breuve, Yeah, soon
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: to be be Sinnet.
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: The way they're doing it should be well yeah at
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: this point, uh yeah, good bump for them. I think,
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: you know, it's more more of a indication that like
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: management and ownership, are like, no, we're not tanking the season,
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: like we're trying to win, like we're trying to make
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: the playoffs. So I think it's like kind of a
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: move that signifies that, and the players responded for the
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: first three games that that standard coaches bump. If it
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: holds on time will tell I just don't they need
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: they need? They need a lot exactly.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: It's a nice.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Story, but it's not it's not sustainable. Meantime, Congrats to
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: RNH Ryan Nugeon Hopkins. The older sports scoring is one
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: thousandth game Sunday night against the Blues. Teammates been the
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: night extra special arriving at three any custom made RNH shirts.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: How about the fact he just drops the hyphen that's
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: tals thing.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Just make it Ryan Nus or just Ryan Hopkins, which
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: act to your point about hyphens and Chris Drury.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Come on, tal you're better than this, You're better than this.
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: This is this is the time, this could have been that.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: Shame on me if for not looking through the word docking,
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: because would have went hard pass on this one today.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: But the nuge I mean, let's just say what an
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: amazing career he's had. Ryan Dgeen Hopkins and no, do
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: not lose the hyphen. Keep it. It is him. I
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: mean it's uh. And then yeah, what is your favorite
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: custom piece gear that's the teammate made for the boys.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: I mean, the best, the best gift I've seen guys
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: get a player was was always the Joe Thornton one.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: They got him like a They got him like a
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: prehistoric tusk from like like a wooly mammoth TUFs from
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: like the prehistoric days, which is like and we're all
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: kind of like, well, that's weird. And then Jumbo's this
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: is fucking awesome, and I was like, oh that, you
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: know that tracks that he would be into that stuff
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: and like fossils and things like that. So so that
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: was kind of a cool one that I saw. So
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: but I mean, listen, Nuge's mister, I mean, he's he's
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: mister Edmonton. When you really look back at how long
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: he's been there for, it's staggering. You just feel like
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: he's part of I feel like he's been there so long.
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: It's like he played with Gretzky and Messi and those guys.
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: He's just been there forever and he has an aged
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: a goddamn day Yeah, it looks great. He's he's drinking
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: kid's blood or something because he's I don't know, he's
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: hocus pocus.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Yeah, congratsatoge Uh, this story is Pavel loving Pablo.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: It could be, you know, for a lot of players.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: During a recent episode of a YouTube interview show, Russian
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: socialite SENDI a Subcheck revealed that during a romantic rondiv
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: with Pavel Burrey, the NHL star suggested they get in
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: the mood by watching his highlights. The date took place
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: in Moscow, shortly after Bury's retirement. So how about it, Jady,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: You're out with the young lady and you think things
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: are going good, and you go, hey, how about a
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: little reverse cowgirl. I'm gonna put on some highlights of myself.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: I mean, I just do that when it's a solo
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: night with myself and and a nice and a.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: Bottle of mash your own highlights, a bottle of Jerkins.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: Kidding me. If I was Pavel Burry, I'd just be
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: I'd be button naked every night on a big screen
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: TV solo. I that I just saw that video before
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: we came on. That is so funny that he did
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: that and he's like, hey, and she said, for like
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: two hours she watched his highlights of him going like
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: pretty good, right, pretty good?
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: And I'm like and she.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Also prefaces by saying she does not know did not
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: know anything about hockey, right, so she's like, what the
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: what's going on right now? And she's like, I'm sitting
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: across from this guy and this one she says, I'm
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: sitting across this guy muscle sexy. Yeah, and he goes,
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: you want to watch my highlights? Like basically he was in,
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: but then he proceeded to show two hours of highlights
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: and probably was still in at the end of the
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: day because it's Pavel Burry highlights. I mean, fuck, come on.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: Defense tho highlights are incredible? How good is this? Nobody is?
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: I sometimes might watch I might watch Pavel Burry's highlight
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: Real Butt Naked. He did Rivalry three, Pavel Burry off.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: JD getting off to Palelberre. So that's not something I
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: was not expecting.
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: After your own highlights, it's one thing that yeah, it's certainly.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Something that could do you ever do you ever listen
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: to your own calls?
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: Do you listen to your calls back?
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: I sadly don't have enough enough good stuff in the tank.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: You get a lot of good stuff.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: I wish Tal should go back and like look at
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: some of his best writing. That's what Tal would do.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Tal would look at some of his best writing, best editing.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Yeah, And that deflected so quickly. It made me think
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: that I am watches and stuff. Yeah, I don't have
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: anything with no shoes on, rubbing your feet together with
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: the socks and you rubbing the toes together.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: That's so maybe maybe you can get back in Toasha.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: I think, yeah, I just rubbing your your your shoeless
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: feet together, no watch and just crinkling your toes.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: I sadly don't. I don't have a foot feighter. So
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: that's the good news. Last we do want to say,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: and this will be an awkward segue, but to they want
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: to jam it in here. Congrats to Kim Weiss, promoted
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: to assistant coach by the Colorado Avalanches, American Hockey League
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: affiliate the Colorado Eagles.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Let's Go Eagles. Wis look at full time.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Assistant coach in HL history after Jessica Campbell, who's assistant
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Before making history in twenty
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: twenty four when she got more with the Seattle crack
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: and coaching staff.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: What do you think, JD. Do you see more female
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: coaches perhaps than HL.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: If you're good enough, you should make it. And if
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: you're good enough you apply and the job's right, I
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: think you should make it. I think it's as simple
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: as that, more or less. I never think anything is
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: more or less, like, hey, there should be more. I'm like,
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: if I'm a firm believer that there should be an opportunity,
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: an equal opportunity. If you apply and you are the
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: best candidate for the job, then you get said job.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: That's just And I never say anything. I think Jessica
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Campbell's been great in Seattle, so she earned that, and
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: I think Kim Weiss has earned that. And I just
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: think it's like I think there needs to be more
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: of it. Yeah, if there's more of it, great, But
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: I think as many as are lying they're right for
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: the job and they get it, I think they should
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: not be discounted just because the fact that they're a
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: woman or anything of that nature, and you get it.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: It's just as simple as that. It's pretty black and
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: white for me, with all that I.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: Agree, if you're successful, doesn't matter who you are and
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: what you are.
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: In the meantime, I'm a Canadian from bumfuck Quebec, so
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: it's like, come on.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Well, listen, I don't know how you feel with the segment.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: We're trying to get a sponsored one hundred flowers dot com,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: so you want to hand out floors. That to Cold Coffield,

- 1:09:36Speaker 1: league lead.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: And that got that cheeky tweet.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: From the habs x account calling out USA Hockey not
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: only I don't care what your priens of coffee and
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: now he's great.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: What'd you think of the tweet? Were you amused by it?
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: Oh? It was amazing? Tagged USA Hockey on his game
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: winning goal. Pierre Hood just given one of his iconic calls.
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: I mean, listen, we're giving fires to Cold Coffield because
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: he could have easily shut it not shut it down,
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: but he is consistently proving to be one of the
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: biggest game breakers in the NHL. And you know, tied
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: for the leading game winning goals this season. He's got
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: two back to back game winning goals. Uh in amazing
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: fashion fifteen seconds left in the game, and just what
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: a fucking snipe that was? So Uh. Cole Cowfield from

- 1:10:37Speaker 2: No, I remember when I hunted flowers, doc.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: Yeah, but didn't I say something else tow What was.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: The other flower company? We thought potentially we could get
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: rope in to this.
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: I thought that was mentioned a cannabis company potentially earlier.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: Yeah, well flower, Yeah, that would be if a cannabis
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: company came on board.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: I mean money's fast days.
