- 0:10And before we read, let's pray, one more time as we as we come
- 0:14before God in his word. Lord, we believe that you are
- 0:20real. You are true.
- 0:22You are alive. You are approachable as we sang.
- 0:26That veil has been torn in two. Not only for us to enter into
- 0:31the holy of holies before your presence to now dwell in us.
- 0:35And so we thank you that we are now your Abode.
- 0:38We are now your dwelling place and Lord as you are as you were
- 0:42concerned about the structure of the Tabernacle with every inch
- 0:46of it. Every qubit Material every
- 0:49layer. So you are concerned with every
- 0:52detail of Our Lives. You long for every part of who
- 0:56we are to reflect your glory your moral Majesty.
- 1:01We pray that as we expound the word as our dear brother and
- 1:04pastor had earlier shared enrollments, these things have
- 1:08been given to us for our encouragement.
- 1:10We come to the word to be encouraged and built up into.
- 1:14Christlikeness sanctify us unto Christ and Jesus Name we pray,
- 1:20amen. Notice that dark chapter studies
- 1:26in this book are so lengthy. That we have two parts in one
- 1:29chapter three parts in one chapter and that is the case
- 1:32with this one. But that is the beauty of this
- 1:35Bible study. It's just for us to extract as
- 1:39much truth from every verse that we can.
- 1:42And even then sometimes, if not, every time I leave a Bible,
- 1:45study said there's so much more yet to be discovered.
- 1:48There's so much more yet to look yet for us to learn and Is
- 1:51certainly true in this chapter but we will do our best by God's
- 1:55grace you. And I up to this point,
- 1:58especially in this chapter. I've learned so much through the
- 2:00friendship between Jonathan and David.
- 2:03It's amazing. The attention that the Bible
- 2:04gives between these two men and it's important for us to take
- 2:08our time to study their interaction, the Covenant that
- 2:11they had made with one another because you're about to find out
- 2:14that this is the last time we're going to see a lengthy
- 2:19interaction between David and John.
- 2:21Nathan, there's going to be one more time and then we're never
- 2:23going to hear of Jonathan again. And one of the things that we
- 2:27learned about Jonathan was that he was indeed a man who stood
- 2:32for the truth, you've heard that in more than one occasion that
- 2:35Jonathan was somebody who paid the price to defend and to be on
- 2:42the side of righteousness. And that was the opportunity
- 2:46that presented itself to him with David and his father.
- 2:48He was willing to stand by David because he was willing to stand
- 2:52by the truth even though it cause great discomfort in his
- 2:57life especially with the Dynamics of his relationship
- 3:00with his own dad with his own father and Jonathan's decision
- 3:05to stand by David was not motivated by political ambition
- 3:10was not motivated to satisfy some kind of selfish desire.
- 3:14Again, it was propelled by a desire to stand for what God
- 3:20would stand for, and he wanted to stand with David because he
- 3:24wanted to stand with his Lord. And if we're not convinced that
- 3:29that truth, then verse 16 will seal the matter for for
- 3:34certainty and verse 16, we read after David and Jonathan are
- 3:38going back and forth of David trying to convince his best
- 3:42friend that his dad is actually trying to assassinate him.
- 3:46Your dad is actually trying to get at me.
- 3:48He's trying to eradicate me from the face of the Earth and
- 3:52Jonathan's willing to believe it, but it's hard for him to
- 3:54believe it because he saw his father repent He saw his dad
- 3:57make a vow that he would never do such a thing and so they are
- 4:01ready to make a plan to expose Saul and they just made a
- 4:05covenant again to re-establish their relationship and not just
- 4:11for their life, but for their descendants and the life's to
- 4:13come. We read here in verse 16 and
- 4:16Jonathan made a covenant. With the House of David saying,
- 4:19may the Lord take Vengeance on David's enemies and Jonathan
- 4:24made David swear Again by his love for him.
- 4:27For he loved them as he loved his own soul.
- 4:31This was a man who stood for truth.
- 4:35How do we know that? Well, number one, he invokes the
- 4:36name of the Lord, he appeals to God this issue between David and
- 4:42Saul was not just a mere disagreement that it was not
- 4:45just neutral from from spirituality.
- 4:49Now, if very much involved God, there was right, there is wrong,
- 4:54there is obedience, there is, this will be nice, there is
- 4:56righteousness, there is wickedness and David did not
- 5:00side with anybody for any other reason.
- 5:02Other than God is the One, who determines?
- 5:06Who is true? And God is the one because he
- 5:10will judge between right and wrong.
- 5:13He will decide the Fate between these two men and Jonathan was
- 5:16fully aware of that. He was fully aware that God will
- 5:20intervene in this. And if God is going to intervene
- 5:22in this, then I want to be on his good side.
- 5:26I want to be in his favor. I want to be blessed by God, I
- 5:30don't want to stand against God and so I'm going to side with
- 5:33you because it is clear that you are on God's side.
- 5:37But notice he goes even further than that.
- 5:38He says may the Lord take Vengeance on David's enemies Why
- 5:45is that significant? Can somebody tell me why that's
- 5:47significant. Yeah.
- 5:53Saw his own dad is in the category of being David's enemy.
- 5:59And so, he's so willing to stand for truth, even if he is having
- 6:05to see his own, father on the side of being disciplined and
- 6:10judged by God, he is so unbiased in this moment that he realizes
- 6:16that even though his own father would stand against God, he is
- 6:19willing to be on God's side and That is the same allegiance that
- 6:23Jesus calls his disciples to. It is the same standard that we
- 6:29would have to hate our fathers, and hate our mothers, and our
- 6:33brothers, and our sisters, our wives, even our own children,
- 6:35and the Bible doesn't use that word hate the same way that you
- 6:38and I would understand it. Yes.
- 6:40In some contexts, but in that context, he's not saying you
- 6:43have to despise them or be hostile towards him, you know,
- 6:45this very well. What he's saying is that your
- 6:48allegiance to Christ should be so intense, so devoted that
- 6:50would make Every other relationship of yours look like
- 6:53hate and comparison. Jonathan here is a man of Truth.
- 7:00And so he's willing to say even if my dad is an enemy to God,
- 7:05He's worthy to be judged. He deserves to be judged.
- 7:11So don't tell me that Jonathan doesn't love truth, the man
- 7:14loves the truth. And as I read this, you and I
- 7:18learned something, something very important with this concept
- 7:23of Revenge. Have you ever noticed how much
- 7:26attention is given to this concept of Retribution or taking
- 7:31Revenge? It's from cover to cover the
- 7:33Holy Spirit as sprinkle that all over whether by way of command
- 7:37or instruction or by way of example as presented before us
- 7:40tonight. It is incredible.
- 7:42How much of the Bible instructs the people of God of how to
- 7:46manage this temptation to take revenge?
- 7:51Have you ever wondered why? It's because God, in his wisdom
- 7:54knows that the people of God will have to endure, great
- 7:59personal offenses. It will be a frequent
- 8:02occurrence, you will know it and it will intensify as you grow
- 8:06and faithfulness to Christ. And because that pain will be
- 8:12common. So will the temptation to take
- 8:14matters into your own hands in order to retaliate and satisfy
- 8:19that burning sensation? That?
- 8:21If you've done me wrong, you're going to get it right back.
- 8:23If not you're going to get it worse.
- 8:26And it's incredible because I was reading Romans this week and
- 8:30the verse that you heard in the reading came to me, but I saw it
- 8:34in a way that I never realized before I saw it, and it made me
- 8:38consider the absolute seriousness of us obeying that
- 8:42instruction. That seems so strange.
- 8:44I seem so foreign but it's so real.
- 8:47It's so real. When you walk in godliness, you
- 8:50will be persecuted. And the verse is this and Romans
- 8:5512:19. Vengeance is mine.
- 9:00Says the Lord. I will repay.
- 9:05I will repay in the thing that stood out to me.
- 9:09Was that phrase? Vengeance is mine.
- 9:15And I thought to myself God is making an exclusive claim there.
- 9:19He is saying this thing of Vengeance of Revenge that
- 9:23belongs exclusively to me. That doesn't belong to you.
- 9:31Now, if it belongs to God, if it's his rightful possession, if
- 9:34it's his prerogative. Then what do we do?
- 9:38If we attempt to take Vengeance into our own hands?
- 9:43What's the equation? If it belongs to God and I try
- 9:47to take it from God and make it mine?
- 9:50What is that called in the Bible?
- 9:52Yeah, it's called stealing. That's theft.
- 9:58Here's what I understood from this that taking revenge is not
- 10:02just wrong in itself, because it's ungodly and uncalled.
- 10:05For taking revenge is vile because I'm stealing.
- 10:09I am robbing god of what solely belongs to him.
- 10:15I want you to never forget that. The next time you are tempted to
- 10:19take revenge with your words with your actions, even in your
- 10:23thoughts, even in your meditations to realize.
- 10:27This is thievery. Because God says vengeance.
- 10:32Is mine? It belongs solely to me, you
- 10:36have no right to entertain it. You have no right to execute it.
- 10:39And if we do give in to that Temptation, not only are we
- 10:42doing wrong to somebody else? We are actually stealing from
- 10:45God himself. May the Lord take Vengeance on
- 10:50David's enemies and the Jonathan reassures him of the Covenant
- 10:56and he wants to be reassured of David's love.
- 10:59Then Jonathan comes up with a plan.
- 11:02Jonathan is in agreement with David and he wants to provide an
- 11:06answer to this mystery. At least a mystery to him about
- 11:09his, his father's attitude, toward David Verse 18.
- 11:14Then Jonathan said to him. Tomorrow is the new moon.
- 11:18And you will be missed because your seat will be empty.
- 11:22On the third day, go down quickly to the place where you
- 11:26hate yourself when the matter was was in hand and remain
- 11:29beside the stone Heap. And I will shoot, three arrows
- 11:34to the side of it as though I had shot out of Mark and behold.
- 11:38I will send the boy saying, go find the arrows.
- 11:40If I say to the boy. Look, the arrows aren't in the
- 11:44side of you take them then you are to come for as the Lord
- 11:48lives. It is safe for you and there is
- 11:50no danger. But if I say to A youth.
- 11:53Look, the arrows are Beyond you, then go for the Lord has sent
- 11:58you away. And as for the matter of which
- 12:01you and I have spoken, behold the Lord is between you and me
- 12:04forever. So David had presented Jonathan,
- 12:08a plan. Listen, we got to find out.
- 12:10You need to know this for yourself.
- 12:12You might not believe me, but I believe it's so real.
- 12:14In your dad's hard that it will be revealed.
- 12:16So go and tell your dad that I couldn't make it to the feast
- 12:19the new moon feast and just watch his reaction.
- 12:23Watch Jonathan, I'm telling you. If you just look at how he's
- 12:25going to respond to my absence, you'll have all the evidence
- 12:28that is required Johnson's. Fine, fine, fine, fine.
- 12:31But we got to be smarter about this.
- 12:33So this is what we're going to do.
- 12:35I'm going to give you an answer to what I discovered but it's
- 12:37going to be in Disguise. It's not going to be obvious.
- 12:40And the reason why I believe he's saying this is because
- 12:42perhaps his father's even spying on Jonathan.
- 12:46Perhaps he fears that even saw has sent men to see where
- 12:49Jonathan is to know where the whereabouts of David is.
- 12:53And so he wants to protect that. He doesn't want to expose David
- 12:55so obviously. And so he comes up with this
- 12:57idea that I'm going to shoot arrows and depending on where
- 13:01they land will determine what your destiny is.
- 13:06And it's so incredible. And in these verses there's an
- 13:09interesting phrase that proves to me the depths of the
- 13:12knowledge that Jonathan has concerning his God and our God.
- 13:16And here's what he says, it's an interesting phrase.
- 13:19He says, if and verse 21 I will send the boys saying, go find
- 13:24the arrows if I say to the boy. Look, the arrows are on the side
- 13:27of you take them. Then you're to come forth as the
- 13:29Lord lives. It is safe for you.
- 13:30There is no danger. But if I say to the youth look
- 13:33the arrows are Beyond you then go look at this for the Lord has
- 13:36sent you away. The Lord has sent you a David.
- 13:44You know what, I take out of that.
- 13:45I'm sure you see it now. Maybe you've seen it before.
- 13:49This is a man who believed that, although Saul might be the
- 13:52reason for David's departure. God was really the cause
- 13:59Sovereign over your life. Your God is.
- 14:03And as much as salt is King and he has Authority, and he can
- 14:06push you around and he can drive you Into the Wilderness.
- 14:10God is the one who's actually sending you.
- 14:14And believer tonight, you have to understand that this is the
- 14:19great confidence for the Christian who is Walking rightly
- 14:22with God. That even though you are facing
- 14:25the Injustice of men, even though you are in a place where
- 14:30all the odds are against you, God is the one coming back as a.
- 14:34This is God. if you have to go, it's God.
- 14:44And I wonder if we have the same understanding of God, Especially
- 14:49when we are experiencing. What?
- 14:51David might be experiencing? Do I really believe that God is
- 14:55the one who's taking it away from me.
- 14:56Do I really believe that is God? Who's stopping me?
- 14:58Do I really believe? It's God, is closing the door?
- 15:00Do I really believe that it is God.
- 15:03Who is determining every step that I take whether I'm aware of
- 15:06his Supernatural intervention or not. if you don't believe that
- 15:12you will know much more weight to those seasons, That are
- 15:16burdensome, you will know much more heaviness, that can be
- 15:22lightened by a simple understanding that.
- 15:25It's the Lord who sends you. I believe if Christians
- 15:30understood that they would need a lot less counseling sessions.
- 15:35I believe that there'd be a lot less tears being shed to be lot
- 15:39less sleepless nights to be a lot less questions and doubts.
- 15:42If I really believe that God is providential over my existence
- 15:47Then bring ten Saul's in my life.
- 15:48God is going to control each of them.
- 15:51And he's going to use them for my sanctification and for his
- 15:54glory. But look at David's example.
- 15:58He says on the third day in verse 19 go down quickly, what
- 16:02does that mean about David? What does he have to do?
- 16:06What does David have to do while Jonathan seeks an answer.
- 16:11Wait, something that we're not good at.
- 16:15Wait. David has to now put everything
- 16:19on pause and there's nothing like waiting.
- 16:22When the decision that's going to be revealed is going to
- 16:24determine the rest of your life. This isn't waiting, whether he's
- 16:29going to get accepted to Seminary, though.
- 16:32That might be stressful. No, no.
- 16:34This is waiting for. What is my future going to look
- 16:38like in every sphere and every aspect?
- 16:40Where am I going to live? What's going to happen to my
- 16:43family? My wife, how am I?
- 16:45How am I going to? Am I ever going to worship at
- 16:48the temple again? Am I ever going to be able to go
- 16:50back to Bethlehem? That's the kind of waiting so
- 16:54three days as much as we think it's from Friday to Sunday or
- 16:57Monday morning. Three days for David, Shirley
- 17:00would feel like three years. Three years.
- 17:05It would feel like an eternity especially when David didn't
- 17:09have the luxury to stay in the Royal Suite with his wife
- 17:13because you come here and verse 24 and you realize where he's
- 17:16waiting. So David hid himself in the
- 17:18field, that's where he's waiting for three days and some forest
- 17:24and some desert land, our Rock, became his pillow for three
- 17:28nights. And he would wait wondering
- 17:32wonder if he prayed during that time.
- 17:33Sure, he did. And I look at this and I can't
- 17:38help but smile, you know why? I can smile because I see that
- 17:43God is willing to make his most faithful and devoted servants.
- 17:49Wait. And not just wait for an answer,
- 17:55but be uncomfortable while you're waiting.
- 18:00This is why you and I are studying the Old Testament.
- 18:04We're not studying the Old Testament.
- 18:06Merely to find theology, or to see the lineage of how the
- 18:11Messiah came through the nation of Israel, or to see Prophecies
- 18:15of Christ. Although we study all things in
- 18:18light of looking for Christ, but we just heard it earlier, I can
- 18:21come to the Old Testament, simply to be encouraged.
- 18:25This is why we're getting familiar with God's ways because
- 18:29life is real life isn't just sermons.
- 18:33Life isn't just going to conferences, life is real,
- 18:37there's actual episodes that happened there they're
- 18:40suffering. There's there's things that we
- 18:42need to do that are that are very Earthly and real and
- 18:46because of that, we need to come and see.
- 18:48Oh look, God, actually makes his servants weight and sometimes if
- 18:54not all times. The waiting is not comfortable.
- 18:59It is willing to do it for the man who would become the next
- 19:02king of Israel would be the example, for all Kings of what
- 19:05to emulate. And surely he's going to make me
- 19:07wait. Surely, I can't comment.
- 19:11Huff and puff. It God doesn't answer my
- 19:13prayers. The night, I pray them.
- 19:16Surely if I feel fidgety and surely.
- 19:18If I don't like the fact that I've been in the season for a
- 19:21while, whether it's singleness or jobless or whatever it is,
- 19:25surely it's not because God doesn't love me.
- 19:27He made David wait. so God's silence and no matter is a sign
- 19:35of his displeasure with us. David would wait.
- 19:41And we read in verse 24. he hit himself in the field and when
- 19:46the new moon came, the king sat down to eat food The king sat on
- 19:52his seat. As that other times on the seat,
- 19:56by the wall wonder why he stopped by the wall.
- 20:00Probably to protect himself from David.
- 20:05He sat by the wall, Jonathan sat opposite and Abner Sat by saw
- 20:10side but David's place was empty.
- 20:16And you can imagine the suspense of reading this, right?
- 20:18This is the moment that we've been waiting for.
- 20:20This is now going to reveal. If Saul is going to expose
- 20:25himself to Jonathan, if Jonathan's going to be
- 20:28confirmed, if he's going to feel as though he is.
- 20:32Now totally convinced that what David was saying is true.
- 20:36This is it but before we come to the revelation of Saul's heart,
- 20:40there's so many things leading up to it.
- 20:42That has so much benefit to us. This is some type of feast that
- 20:48is obviously religious. It's a new moon feast.
- 20:52And the reason why we know that it is religious in nature
- 20:57because in verse 26, we read it yet.
- 20:59Saul did not say anything that day for a thought.
- 21:02Something has happened to him. He is not clean, surely, he is
- 21:05not clean. And so we know in the Old
- 21:08Testament. We know, especially in Leviticus
- 21:11that if there was something that you've done, whether you touch
- 21:14that Body or there is relations between you and your spouse.
- 21:17You would be considered unclean and oftentimes it would be just
- 21:20for a day. You'd be disqualified from
- 21:22participating in certain religious feasts, and festivals
- 21:25and observances. And so, in Saul's mind, he's
- 21:28thinking David much must have to a funeral or something.
- 21:31And so that's why he's not here. So we know that this is a
- 21:34spiritually motivated Feast, right?
- 21:40So what does that say about Saul?
- 21:44If this new moon thing is is an observance to somewhat recognize
- 21:49God and celebrate God. What does that reveal about
- 21:52Saul? Well, he's in attendance.
- 22:01He's sitting there not just that he's actually participating.
- 22:05He's eating. Guess what does it mean a thing
- 22:08about his spirituality? Guys are hypocrite.
- 22:15The guy's a hypocrite. You know what I read here?
- 22:18I read that you can have people attend a worship service, sing,
- 22:23pray, serve and be just like solve filled with jealousy, and
- 22:27envy and murderous rage. Think about this, this man is
- 22:33sitting at the table. He's there.
- 22:39Maybe he's even saying some things we don't know, it's not
- 22:41recorded, he's certainly participating in the meal and I
- 22:45read here that just because once presence in a religious setting,
- 22:51Does not indicate that the presence of Christ is ruling in
- 22:54their hearts. And Saul again is not just
- 23:00present, he's actually involved nevertheless.
- 23:04It adds no validity to his spiritual condition This
- 23:09scenario is no different today you know a very well.
- 23:11I'm sure. and the longer you stay in church, the more you
- 23:15realize that there are a lot of people like Saul That is just
- 23:19there there and there, there may be even frequently present, they
- 23:23observe all things, but inside they're dead inside.
- 23:28They're filled with vices they're filled with creepy
- 23:32things, they're filled with cobwebs and lifelessness So what
- 23:37does it mean to be present in a religious gathering?
- 23:40Just like this tonight very little Very little.
- 23:46Fact, I was thinking about Judas, I don't know why Judas
- 23:48has been on my mind. For these past few weeks, and
- 23:51the thing that keeps ringing, in my mind that keeps replaying was
- 23:54like this man served in the greatest Ministry, known to
- 23:59mankind. And this man could claim a close
- 24:03proximity to Christ unlike any other and yet he was still damp
- 24:06to hell. He was still, he's in Hell, the
- 24:11guys in hell and he saw not just saw Miracles, he performed
- 24:15miracles. We're going to be shocked at the
- 24:18judgement seat of Christ. I'm telling you, we are going to
- 24:20be shocked. He was there.
- 24:25He was there and at the same religious gathering.
- 24:27He's about to assign, try to assassinate his own son.
- 24:31It's incredible. It's like mind-boggling. but on
- 24:35the second day in verse 27, but on the second day, the day after
- 24:41the new moon, David's place was empty.
- 24:46And Saul said to Jonathan his son, why has not the son of
- 24:51Jesse come to the meal either yesterday or today, either
- 24:57yesterday or today. So one day passed by and he
- 25:02could justify it one day passed by and he even went to a law to
- 25:06try to make sense of it. David isn't here.
- 25:10I mean, think about this, you actually are expecting the
- 25:13presence of David after you try to kill him more than Like how
- 25:17delusional can you be, but that's what Pride does it makes
- 25:20you the center of the universe? And so this man thinks where's
- 25:24David? Now, the second I, he's supposed
- 25:25to be on the clear, he supposed to be cleansed, he's supposed to
- 25:29be at this Feast, he supposed to be here at this table, David
- 25:34doesn't show up. There is no excuse and Saul's
- 25:37mind and so now he interrogates Jonathan and he asked him, hey,
- 25:43where was yesterday and where is he today?
- 25:47Have you noticed the wording of his question though.
- 25:51What stands out when he talks to Jonathan what stands out about
- 25:54his question. Anybody see it?
- 25:58He doesn't say David. Why has not the son of Jesse
- 26:07come to the meal? Who?
- 26:12This guy is just getting worse and worse and worse.
- 26:15You know what's happening. His jealousy has reached such a
- 26:18feverish pitch that he could not even mention, David's name.
- 26:24This guy was so eaten up by Envy that he could not even utter
- 26:30David's identity, and instead refers him to the son of Jesse
- 26:36now, we think that's far-fetched, but that is one of
- 26:39the strongest marks of stage for envy and Stage for
- 26:43unforgiveness. Here's how it could be real in
- 26:46our lives today. You can be in a group and
- 26:50somebody mentions the name of somebody that you either have
- 26:52bitterness towards and Mention of their name.
- 26:55Can erupt volcanic emotions. Volcanic emotions.
- 27:00Just A Rush of anger just a rush.
- 27:05Of bitterness. And so this man is he's headed
- 27:13towards trouble and now, it's manifesting, it's so clear, it's
- 27:17so obvious. He can't even refer to him by
- 27:20his name. And it's not just because he's
- 27:23jealous, not just because he can't stand David, it's because
- 27:27he's in a sense belittling him. He's almost saying who is Or
- 27:33where is the son of a nobody? He's not connected to the Royal
- 27:37Line. He doesn't even want to
- 27:39entertain that thought. Where is nobody?
- 27:42That's what he's trying to say. And Jonathan and this moment,
- 27:47probably I wonder how he respond.
- 27:50I wonder what that look on his face was because at this point I
- 27:53wasn't enough to know whether or not saw was bent on killing
- 27:56David. So he takes advantage of this
- 27:58moment. He seizes the opportunity and he
- 28:03presents what him and David had planned?
- 28:06He presents the scenario. He releases the bait.
- 28:12To see how is Saul going to respond.
- 28:14And this is a reminder that David convinced a Godly Man to
- 28:19not tell the truth. David you didn't have to come up
- 28:21with a lie to expose, Saul Saul had enough evil in his heart to
- 28:24expose himself, but he does go with it and he gets the desired
- 28:30goal, but just a simple reminder that.
- 28:32Just because something is achieved through.
- 28:35The means of sin. Doesn't justify the sin.
- 28:39Jonathan verse 28 answered Saul David.
- 28:43Earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem.
- 28:46He said, let me go for our clan holds a sacrifice in the city,
- 28:49and my brother has commanded me to be there.
- 28:52So now, if I found favor in your eyes, let me get away and see my
- 28:57brother's. For this reason, he is not come
- 29:01to the Kings Table. So, the bait has been cast.
- 29:06It's there before, Saul. And I am very, very, very
- 29:11confident that Jonathan was not expecting what was about to
- 29:14shoot out of his dad's mouth. Verse 30 then Saul's anger was
- 29:23kindled against Jonathan and he said to him you son of a
- 29:27perverse rebellious woman. Do I not know that you have
- 29:32chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of
- 29:36your mother's nakedness for as long as the son of Jesse?
- 29:40There it is again. Can't say his name lives on the
- 29:43earth. Neither you nor your kingdom
- 29:46shall be established there for And and bring him to me for he
- 29:51shall surely die. And I can just imagine the forks
- 29:57dropping the music cutting off. The food stop being chewed in
- 30:03people's mouths. As Saul erupts.
- 30:09At a religious gathering. What do you take out of these
- 30:14answers? There's so much, there's so much
- 30:17in Saul's where the reveals Many things about his heart and many
- 30:21things about the power of sin. Any observations from this?
- 30:27Yes. Yeah.
- 30:38Very great observation. This, this, this emotional
- 30:42thing, this thing of jealousy who knew how far it would go,
- 30:46it's not just now between him and David, it's affecting his
- 30:48son. He's now insulting his own wife
- 30:51publicly He's dishonoring his own wife at a religious
- 31:00gathering with deplorable words. Who would have thought that
- 31:05someone's personal hidden sin would have such extensive
- 31:10consequences? Yes, great observation.
- 31:13Anything else? He saw right through so that I
- 31:20didn't really help anyway. The Leyden even helped anyway
- 31:24because Saul Reddit for what it was.
- 31:26Yes absolutely. Anything else.
- 31:39Sure, sure. So now, he's really emphasizing
- 31:43the threat that David carries as as, obviously God's anointed one
- 31:47and he is trying to hammer that in his son's head, which is
- 31:51amazing because it doesn't move Jonathan at all.
- 31:53Yes. Right.
- 32:01Absolutely. So he's really now becoming
- 32:03Reckless and it's becoming very dangerous and his behavior.
- 32:06Yes. He forced them to distance
- 32:09himself from both David and his son.
- 32:12Yes. So now that's a great
- 32:20observation. Now, he's now he's cutting off
- 32:22all ties because sin erodes, it it eats up anything that's good
- 32:26in life. And he that is Holy and precious
- 32:28that, that God would consider a gift.
- 32:31Sin has has no limit and destroying these things.
- 32:34And, and when I read this about how he refers to Jonathan, he
- 32:38says, you son of a perverse and Rebellion rebellious woman, the
- 32:45irony If he's the son of anything, he's a son of a
- 32:49perverse and rebellious man. And and look at this.
- 32:55He insults Jonathan's mother. That's your wife, brother.
- 33:01That's your wife. I read that I thought maybe this
- 33:06is an indication that things were not really good in Saul's
- 33:08marriage. Maybe this is an indication that
- 33:13things weren't even good between his own wife.
- 33:15So he had no problem just smearing her.
- 33:17And just using her as a means to injure his own son and even harm
- 33:21her her name and her reputation front of all these people think
- 33:26about this, this man is destroying absolutely everything
- 33:29in his life and he's just digging himself deeper into
- 33:33this. And I look at I look at
- 33:36Jonathan. And I hear this insult, and it's
- 33:42even more than just insulting, his wife, insulting his mother,
- 33:44you know what he's trying to say here.
- 33:46What is he saying by saying you son of a perverse and
- 33:48rebellious? When what is he trying to
- 33:49essentially say? You're not my son.
- 33:55You're not mine. You must be your mom must have
- 34:00got with another guy and had you Because he's calling his mama,
- 34:05harlot. Perverse and rebellious woman
- 34:10who's your dad? Because my son wouldn't betray
- 34:13me. Like how you're betraying me do
- 34:15you feel the weight of it now You know, I've sat with people
- 34:20not in this setting, but in different places who have still
- 34:23felt the wounds people who have been physically abused by their
- 34:27parents and they've told me the physical physical abuse, meant
- 34:30nothing in comparison to being told you're no longer my
- 34:32daughter. This is painful.
- 34:36Let's let's let's feel this. It's not just read as a comment.
- 34:39Let's read. Let's feel it.
- 34:40You're not my son. Because my son wouldn't do what
- 34:43you're doing, Jonathan. You're going to stand for this,
- 34:47son of Jesse against your own dad.
- 34:49Your mom must have slept somebody and brought you into
- 34:51the world. Are we ready to be disowned for
- 34:58our faith? Because this is, this is the
- 35:02principal. Jonathan is going to come to a
- 35:07Crossroads, it he's already set up, he's already made up his
- 35:10mind, but he's going to come to a Crossroads where he's going to
- 35:11really, have to make a decision now, because his relationship
- 35:14with his dad is hanging by a thread.
- 35:16It's hanging by a thread. All for what, for one simple
- 35:20reason he's standing for the truth.
- 35:23And is that is challenging him and and notice he calls them
- 35:26rebellious. What's so confusing about that?
- 35:31Who's really the rebellious one? A comparison between Saul and
- 35:35Jonathan. I think we know the answer to
- 35:37that but sin has a way of warping our judgment.
- 35:43Pride has a way of blinding us and and, and it's all was so
- 35:46blinded to his own sin and his own character flaw and his own
- 35:50Disobedience that he was, he was with, apparently a clear
- 35:54conscience. Able to label the one who's
- 35:56actually standing for truth as a rebel, your the rebel, And so
- 36:05here's another principle are you willing?
- 36:07Are you ready to be labeled as evil for standing for the truth?
- 36:12Because that's what he's enduring now.
- 36:16You could feel the heat of this moment.
- 36:18Now, here's a man who's essentially saying are you my
- 36:21son or not? Who's being called a rebel?
- 36:26And that was just, it was more than just a common.
- 36:28He's saying, are you a rebel to this Kingdom?
- 36:32Are you part of, are you part of the plan to overthrow me?
- 36:37And Jonathan and this moment has to make a decision.
- 36:42And he does make a decision in verse 32.
- 36:44Then Jonathan answered Sol his father.
- 36:46Why should he be put to death? What has he done?
- 36:51He crossed the line. That's it.
- 36:54He made his choice right there. And up to this point, as
- 37:01difficult, as it was, to make a decision to stand by David.
- 37:05This was this was the, the crossroads And God will find
- 37:13ways to test our faith. When we have to stand for truth.
- 37:21When it comes with a price tag, may God give us a boldness and a
- 37:27courage to stand for Christ. When there's a price attached to
- 37:32it. And what's amazing here in verse
- 37:3631, for as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth,
- 37:39neither you nor your kingdom shall be established.
- 37:41So he's, he's trying to express some kind of concern about
- 37:45Jonathan's future and David being a threat to that.
- 37:48He said hey don't you see what this what this kid is going to
- 37:52do. Your posterity is at risk.
- 37:56Your position is at risk, your future is at risk, your
- 37:59Dynasty's at risk. You're going to just give it all
- 38:02up for the son of Jesse. And so you can see how this is
- 38:08trickery. This is manipulation, Saul is
- 38:10trying to persuade Jonathan by highlighting his own benefit and
- 38:15his own future and his own well-being.
- 38:18Here's the thing. You can't tempt a man, like
- 38:21Jonathan with Fame with security, with prominence, even
- 38:28with a palace, when you've already been sold out to God's
- 38:31purposes, Jonathan he doesn't even entertain the thought
- 38:36because Jonathan as we've learned from chapter 18, when he
- 38:39destroyed himself and place his weapon and his all these things
- 38:42into the hands of of David. He already made a statement and
- 38:45that statement was this, I'm surrendered to the program that
- 38:48God has ordained for my life. And if in God's Providence and
- 38:52in his planning, I'm not supposed to be king, but you're
- 38:55supposed to be king, then I would Joyce submit to that It's
- 39:02very difficult to tempt, a man, or a woman who is completely
- 39:06sold out to the purposes of God. Even if it is at his own
- 39:11expense, even if the whole world can be, offered to him as Satan
- 39:15tempted Jesus, when your heart is convinced to please your
- 39:20master, whatever it demands of you.
- 39:24Satan has very little to work with.
- 39:27And that's what he's showing here.
- 39:30Quick question. Do you believe that saw was
- 39:33actually concerned about Jonathan's future?
- 39:38Is this a dad wants to make sure that his son has a Ministry and
- 39:43his son has has something to look forward to.
- 39:45Is that is that what's happening here?
- 39:49It's all being a good dad here and he just being cautious, know
- 39:52why? We have so much already up to.
- 39:57This point are studying for Samuel to give us reason to
- 40:00believe that Saul has proven over.
- 40:03And over that he's very, very little concern about others and
- 40:08very much concerned about himself proof.
- 40:10Remember when we saw David, scuse me, Jonathan, overtake,
- 40:14that Garrison of the Philistines and first, Samuel 13 who took
- 40:17the credit for that saw So his son accomplish a great thing and
- 40:24he wanted to take credit for himself now.
- 40:26Never mind other chapters. How do we know in this very same
- 40:29chapter, the same context. That's all could care less about
- 40:34his son's future and it was all about his name and his
- 40:38reputation and the monument that he set up.
- 40:42Look at verse 33. But saw hurled his spear at him
- 40:48to strike him. Interesting.
- 40:52So, you're concerned about your son, being the king, and the
- 40:56next move, you're ready to pin him against his chair with a
- 40:59spear. Good job, Saul.
- 41:04Very simple illustration of a principle that you and I have
- 41:08heard all our lives. That your words and my words.
- 41:13Do not mean much of our actions contradict, right?
- 41:19Saul claims one thing. He behaves in another saw
- 41:22professes. One thing and his behavior
- 41:24proves another the language of love in the Christian faith is
- 41:29spoken by acts of service and sacrifice.
- 41:35Even our love to God, no matter how much we profess it.
- 41:38If one says I love God but hates his brother.
- 41:40John says he's a liar. I want you to be king and in the
- 41:46next breath, he takes a spear and he uses that breath to try
- 41:49to kill his son. Your words mean so much song.
- 41:55I read that now is convicted. When I say to somebody, I love
- 41:58you. Do I really mean I love you.
- 42:02Like what do I mean by that? I love you brother.
- 42:04What do I mean by that? When I say when I say I'm here
- 42:08for you? What do I mean when I say this
- 42:09one's going to hurt. When I say, I'm going to pray
- 42:11for you. Like These Things are Slip out
- 42:15of our mouths, you know? I'll pray for you.
- 42:23A simple but necessary point about our actions being the
- 42:26determining factor of the worth and the validity of our claims.
- 42:31I want you to be king, I'm protecting your Dynasty.
- 42:36John. And so this spear is hurled at
- 42:43him and we read. So Jonathan that same verse knew
- 42:47that his father was determined to put David to death.
- 42:50This guy is willing to kill his own son.
- 42:55Why would I have it any trouble to believe that he's willing to
- 42:59kill a Farmer Boy? David was right.
- 43:04David was right now, this is incredible and verse 34 you read
- 43:10about Jonathan again. You read about Jonathan again
- 43:15and you see something. Listen, when I say Jonathan, I
- 43:17hope I hope you. And I have studied this man
- 43:20enough to realize that he is a great great portrait of
- 43:24selflessness of death to self. Right.
- 43:28If God Made You King though, politically, I'm supposed to be
- 43:31king, it's yours. If I had to stand for truth,
- 43:33even though I have to face the fury of my father, then I will
- 43:36stand for truth. Like this guy, this guy is dead
- 43:39to himself and now we go even deeper into his Art the Holy
- 43:44Spirit. Allows us to go even further
- 43:45into this man's soul to see that.
- 43:48He's really, really dead to himself.
- 43:51And a beautiful way, we see it in verse 34 and Jonathan Rose
- 43:55from the table and fierce anger. Yeah, no kidding.
- 44:00You just called my mom, a prostitute.
- 44:04He just said, I'm not your son. You just threw a spear at me.
- 44:09Is that why? He was angry?
- 44:10No. Jonathan Rose from the table and
- 44:14fierce anger and ate no food. The second day of the month for
- 44:18he was grieved for David. Free was grieved for David
- 44:24because his father has disgraced him.
- 44:31Can you be consumed with such a love for another person?
- 44:35That even though you yourself are enduring pain and hurt,
- 44:40that's being hurled at you. You were so unconcerned about
- 44:43you because there's somebody else who is undergoing, shame
- 44:48and disgrace and Injustice, it's possible.
- 44:53It's possible to be so dead to self. that when it comes to
- 44:59insults towards you like a corpse, you're in Shakin. but
- 45:06when it comes to somebody else, you're broken, And this is not
- 45:11just an illustration of what our love should look like.
- 45:14For one another as members of the body of Christ I believe
- 45:16this is an illustration of what Christ demands from us
- 45:21concerning our love for him. What I mean by that that we
- 45:24should be so alive in Christ that when it comes to his name
- 45:27being blasphemed and his name being smeared in the dirt and
- 45:31his name being Contradicted by the character of Christians and
- 45:36maybe even our own lives. That it would, it would break
- 45:39us. And even cause what the psalmist
- 45:43said, a righteous indignation because they have broken your
- 45:46long, but as much as we might be alive to Christ that we would,
- 45:52we would be so sensitive to these things.
- 45:55So sensitive, that even when you go to that game and people are
- 45:58using God's name in vain, you would cringe.
- 46:02When you thought you were watching, something innocent and
- 46:04somebody takes the name of Jesus Christ as a cuss word, as an
- 46:06expression of frustration, it would burn in your bosom. so
- 46:12alive in Christ in such a way, but so dead to self that if
- 46:16people spit in your face, It's like you spout on a dead man.
- 46:23Jonathan. What a man makes you wonder why
- 46:28he didn't become king. I mean.
- 46:32We somebody made this beautiful illustration with Jonathan and
- 46:35David Jonathan was just as much as a man of God, and David was
- 46:38so why did God choose day? Because that's his sovereignty.
- 46:43David even up to me, I would not be concerned about me.
- 46:49Paul had a disciple like that. Paul had a man named Timothy,
- 46:54and I love this verse. It has stuck with me ever since
- 46:56I read it, and I can't shake it off because It just made an
- 47:01impression on my soul, you don't have to turn there, but just
- 47:03listen to these words, he writes to the Philippians and he says
- 47:06in Philippians 2 24. I have no one like him, Timothy,
- 47:10who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare?
- 47:13Why verse 21 for they all seek their own interest.
- 47:18Not those of Jesus Christ. They Timothy is unique.
- 47:23Why is Timothy unique? Not because he's a great order,
- 47:25not because not because he's a theologian because the man's
- 47:30interest moment. He thought about one person
- 47:33David He thought it won't person his friend.
- 47:40Oh, that Christ would fill us with such a love for one another
- 47:43and for him. So what happens first 35?
- 47:50In the morning. Jonathan went out to the field
- 47:52to the appointment with David and with him a little boy.
- 47:55Now this is what I'm going to do.
- 47:56The remainder of the study. This portion of the text is so
- 48:00beautifully written. It's so detailed, it's so
- 48:04colorful that as I read it, I don't have a doubt that you're
- 48:08going to begin to Envision it in your mind.
- 48:10You're going to actually see it play out.
- 48:11So let me just read it. I'm not going to interrupt and
- 48:14just just let your mind. Let a holy imagination.
- 48:17Now, come to life and then we'll Talk about a few points.
- 48:23In the morning Jonathan went out into the field to the
- 48:25appointment with David and with him a little boy and he said to
- 48:29this his boy run and find the arrows that I shoot as the boy
- 48:34ran, he shot an arrow Beyond him.
- 48:37And he rose and departed and Jonathan went into the City and
- 48:43the curtain closes. Precious beautiful.
- 48:50So many things. So many things to learn but just
- 48:54a few to consider tonight. first, did you notice that there
- 48:59is an interesting Segment dedicated to Jonathan in this
- 49:04little boy. Right.
- 49:08It's amazing. How this is how we get
- 49:11revelation. We ask the text questions.
- 49:14Why? What why this whole thing played
- 49:17out? He brought this little boy and
- 49:19this little boy went and he followed the Arrow when he came,
- 49:21he says no, no, come on, let's go.
- 49:23Let's get moving and he comes and says human the wisdom of
- 49:26Christ when we don't we don't think that even obeying the Lord
- 49:31will bring about the best outcome.
- 49:33And yet still, he is worthy of our obedience.
- 49:37Says here that this boy obeyed his master.
- 49:43And it's really the Simplicity of the Christian Life.
- 49:47You and I have God's word, have God's instructions and All
- 49:51Seasons. If you ever are doubting the
- 49:54will of God for your life realize that no matter what the
- 49:57particular as you were asking for the will of God has been
- 50:00revealed to you. It's here.
- 50:04And here is the Simplicity of this illustration.
- 50:06It's really the Simplicity of the Christian Life Trust and
- 50:08Obey for there's no other way but to be happy in Jesus, but to
- 50:12trust and obey, Just like this childlike Faith, right?
- 50:17He didn't ask question. You think this little boy with
- 50:18the Jonathan, why are you shooting arrows?
- 50:20And me picking it up target practice.
- 50:23You would need to shoot more arrows.
- 50:24I don't understand. And then now you brought me all
- 50:27the way up to this field and now you want me to pick up one arrow
- 50:30and then you want me to go all the way back to the city.
- 50:33That's not, that's not childlike faith.
- 50:38I don't understand Lord how this command is going to help me in
- 50:41this situation. In fact, I think it's going to
- 50:42get me in more trouble. But I'm going to trust you.
- 50:47If you want to be an honest believer, then I will be an
- 50:49honest believe and I will be truthful in this situation.
- 50:52D.c. simple illustration. So let's look at the other side.
- 50:59You and I as friends you and I as gospel Folk, To one another.
- 51:04We are called to be correctors to be rebuked errs, to be
- 51:09instructors, right? In love and in patients.
- 51:13And with with great caution And we are to be to this outside
- 51:19world truth-tellers. We are not supposed to withhold
- 51:21the truth. We don't just emphasize on the
- 51:24good. We don't even have good news if
- 51:25we don't first have bad news. but on the flip side, how much
- 51:32do we honor truth speakers in our lives?
- 51:37how much do we value those in our lives that are willing to
- 51:41call us out if we need to be called out, Do we love open
- 51:46rebuke more than hidden love? Do we love the Embrace of
- 51:51someone who's willing to wound us more than the kiss of an
- 51:54enemy. I see David as a man of great.
- 51:58Humility and integrity when he sees Jonathan, delivered this
- 52:02message. He respects him.
- 52:04He vows to him. He honors him.
- 52:08And we must be the same to those who speak into our lives truth.
- 52:14And I don't think that everybody has the right to speak into our
- 52:16lives, by the way. I don't, because not everybody
- 52:19has the best intention in mind for you.
- 52:21There are some people who want to criticize you to Cripple you.
- 52:25I'm not saying be naive and let anybody just say what they want.
- 52:27Or like no by the, the sermon of the spirit.
- 52:30Be very prayerful of inviting people into your life that will
- 52:34in love. And you know, and love will say
- 52:37what they need to say even if it hurts to build you up, David
- 52:40honored, he honored Jonathan and after this, They Embrace and in
- 52:50good fashion, Middle Eastern style.
- 52:52They kiss each other. And they weep.
- 52:58They weep. David weeps more.
- 53:03Obviously Jonathan's going to get, get to go back to the city,
- 53:07Jonathan's going to go see his other friends.
- 53:08Jonathan's going to go to his warm bed, Jonathan's going to be
- 53:11able to be part of the army, still David.
- 53:16It's not gonna be able to see his wife.
- 53:18He actually has to go fetch his family to leave Bethlehem
- 53:20because he's scared for their safety.
- 53:24He's gonna have to walk in the desert night thinking.
- 53:27I thought I was supposed to be the king.
- 53:30How is this? How is this work?
- 53:35so, he weeps more Can I be honest with you?
- 53:39When I read that I got angry. Because I see this, I see
- 53:46Jonathan and David embracing each other weeping weeping
- 53:48weeping. And all I could think and saying
- 53:50this is Sol's fault. And I believe we need to be more
- 53:56angry about Sin. I don't think Christians are
- 53:59angry enough. Not about people, talking about
- 54:01Sin, the destructive nature about Sin.
- 54:06I believe if we were, if we had that anger more real in our
- 54:09lives, we wouldn't tolerate it so easily in our lives.
- 54:14Jesus Christ was anointed with the oil of gladness, not just
- 54:17because he loved righteousness, but because he hated wickedness,
- 54:22We just think Jesus was. Just he just loves and when
- 54:25anything wrong happened. He just don't do that.
- 54:27No. He hated wickedness.
- 54:33He hated wickedness so much that he shed his blood, because of
- 54:36it. Since shatters it breaks it
- 54:41destroys. And we see a picture of it here.
- 54:45Destroying a friendship. Destroying family.
- 54:48Destroying something that could have been so beautiful.
- 54:53Be careful not to be angry at people because people are not
- 54:55our enemies. Sin and Satan our enemies.
- 55:01Jonathan after weeping heaving, maybe puts Javits David aside
- 55:08holds him by the shoulders. And he says, these three
- 55:12wonderful words that should not be surprising coming from a man
- 55:16of God after David is weeping and maybe Jonathan collected
- 55:19himself earlier and David still weeping.
- 55:21He says, in verse 42, go in peace.
- 55:25Go in peace. David, I know this hurts.
- 55:28I know. This is painful.
- 55:29I know you didn't expect this. Remember what I said earlier,
- 55:33the Lord is sending you away and he says, go in peace.
- 55:36Because he reminds him of the Covenant that they made, in the
- 55:39name of the Lord. He reminds him that his future
- 55:41is secure, he reminds him in essence indirectly that when
- 55:46you, and I have isn't going to finish, it's not leave it or
- 55:49jealous of it. as in sauce case, We end on a sad note.
- 55:57But we end also on a hopeful note, go in.
- 55:59Peace. David could go into that Bleak,
- 56:05lifeless Wilderness in Israel. Knowing that the Lord had sent
- 56:10them there. And you and I can have great
- 56:13confidence tonight that wherever we are in this moment.
- 56:17If you are walking with God, no matter what man has done to
- 56:20cause it. No matter what kind of family
- 56:22dysfunction, you're trying to deal with.
- 56:24No matter what it is in your life, God is sovereign.
- 56:30And what he's going to put David through is absolutely necessary
- 56:33before he becomes king. You think God is think God is
- 56:35just reacting to Saul. You think God's Got, You Know
- 56:41What I really was? I was really having David to
- 56:44stay in the palace this whole time.
- 56:45So let's just figure out another plan.
- 56:47No, God ordained it. God ordained it and this would
- 56:54do nothing but good to David as we're about to find out in the
- 56:56weeks ahead. Cherishes Bible study because
- 57:01And this season and this month of the year, we're going to be
- 57:04focusing on the Incarnation of Christ.
- 57:06So keep this fresh in your hearts before we return to this
- 57:08Bible study. Let's pray and ask God to do
- 57:11that. Loi, thank you.
- 57:38That you and your great wisdom have spelled out such a glorious
- 57:42story filled with sanctifying truths.
- 57:48Lord, as we've concluded, our study of Jonathan in great
- 57:53detail. We thank you for this real
- 57:56person who who illustrates so much of the potential of the man
- 58:01set apart for God. Lord of Jonathan.
- 58:07Is an example of anything. Surely tonight.
- 58:09Lord, he's an example of the devotion, and the sacrifice that
- 58:13is required of us, in light of the son of David Christ, Jesus
- 58:17himself. We asked, oh God.
- 58:22That those who would blaspheme his name would hurt us more than
- 58:26if they have blasphemed our name.
- 58:28If they have tarnished our name, it would not mean anything in
- 58:31comparison to your glorious glorious name.
- 58:35We ask. Oh God.
- 58:36That we would have that fiery devotion that even if God
- 58:41forbid, we have to stand against the most lovely people in their
- 58:45lives, the closest people to our lives.
- 58:49We will choose peace with Christ, over peace with man.
- 58:55Lord. We pray that as we've learned so
- 58:57much about friendship that it went in, just stir our minds.
- 59:00Our hearts, it wouldn't be just good fresh insights Lord.
- 59:05Make It Real in our lives to love each other.
- 59:09With such a selfless concern. That people's pain would be our
- 59:13pain and people's distress would be our distress.
- 59:19That people's hunger would be our hunger.
- 59:21There need would be our need Inspire that in our hearts, by
- 59:26the spirit of God, we can't do it.
- 59:27Lord, we confess. We will fail at this.
- 59:31Leave us to ourselves Lord, and we will be consumed with
- 59:33ourselves but do a work in US. For those in this place, Lord,
- 59:39Jesus, who are enduring suffering, the Injustice of man
- 59:43Payne. Family, even the hurtful words
- 59:46of those that are supposed to Spring forth life, we just pray
- 59:54that this would serve as a motivation to remain.
- 59:57Holy Vengeance is mine says the Lord.
- 1:00:02We leave it to you, we will not rob you.
- 1:00:06We will not steal from you. And tonight not only is
- 1:00:10Vengeance yours. All the glory is yours and we
- 1:00:14want to give you glory tonight because your word is life and
- 1:00:18you have supplied life into our souls tonight in a fresh way.
- 1:00:21We give you maximum praise, we give you all the honor and all
- 1:00:25the glory in this house because we have received, we have eaten
- 1:00:30of your word, the bread of life. Be blessed by our worship.
- 1:00:35As we respond to these truths and we say I surrender and I
- 1:00:38give myself to your purposes, no matter, what is demanded of me
- 1:00:41to make it so and Jesus name we pray.
- 1:00:44Amen.
