- 0:01Hello everyone and welcome to the random Heathen ramblings
- 0:03podcast, where we discuss all sorts of things.
- 0:06Dramatic, Heathen re related. My name is Jessie.
- 0:09I am your host. Let's get into it.
- 0:32All right, everybody. Hello.
- 0:33And welcome back to this week's episode of the random Heathen
- 0:36ramblings podcast. Thanks for tuning in, as always,
- 0:38and showing your support. And all of the ways that you do.
- 0:43Hope you guys have been having a good month of March, you know,
- 0:47we've we've kicked off the month with some pretty chilly weather
- 0:49here in the Middle Tennessee area.
- 0:53This past weekend's meet up with a bunch of local and Regional
- 0:59pagans and heathens to talk about Concepts of death, and the
- 1:02afterlife was, it was a chilly one for sure, you know, it was a
- 1:05little windy, the temperatures were in the upper 40s, low 50s,
- 1:09it was overcast, you know? And it was a, it was definitely
- 1:12a reminder that we're not quite there yet.
- 1:16Springtime is not quite here yet, but we are getting longer
- 1:19days now because of the DST, the daylight saving time.
- 1:25So we are getting an extra hour of daylight now.
- 1:27And, you know, it feels like the days are longer and You know,
- 1:31they're not out we're not out of the woods yet for sure.
- 1:34We've we've definitely got some potential for cool and colder
- 1:40weather this. The rest of this week has been
- 1:43you know right around what it typically should be for the for
- 1:48the later parts of the winter early spring, but you know we
- 1:51still got the rest of this month and Even into April, believe it
- 1:56or not here in the South can get, you know, be a bit
- 1:59unpredictable. We've had freeze warnings or
- 2:03Frost warnings all the way into April.
- 2:05I've even seen it snow a little bit here.
- 2:07So, you know, we're definitely not out of the woods yet, but
- 2:12suffice it to say, you know, the days are getting longer and we
- 2:15got look me and we can look forward to Longer and warmer
- 2:19days to come then apologize ahead of time.
- 2:23In case, you guys notice my voice may go in or in and out a
- 2:27little bit, just dealing with again, because of the way, the
- 2:29weather goes, you know, some days, it's 70 degrees, some
- 2:31days, it's 30 degrees, and it just goes all over the place.
- 2:36My voice has maybe a little, you know, in and out because of the
- 2:42weather fluctuations, there's like this upper respiratory
- 2:44thing that I'm trying to to to to fight a bit.
- 2:48It. I don't get seasonal allergies,
- 2:50at least. I don't think I do.
- 2:54But it's mainly just, you know, up in here.
- 2:58So I may sound like a rash be old man, every now and then.
- 3:02But anyway, we are here today to discuss a couple of things that
- 3:10really didn't come from any particular.
- 3:15Inspiration. No comments.
- 3:19No, no, no. But nobody riding in which as a
- 3:21reminder, if if you guys didn't know, if this is your first time
- 3:25listening or watching, you can write in recommendations for the
- 3:28podcast, you can call in recommendations to the podcast.
- 3:32If you have topics that you would like to hear more about,
- 3:35you can email midgard musings, Tian at gmail.com, and you can
- 3:41also call six 1567 1983 to you can remain anonymous.
- 3:45In either one of those ways, you know, so, writing into me, you
- 3:49can just share an idea or a thought and same way as calling
- 3:53you can remain anonymous and you know, if you want we can share
- 3:58your voice on the podcast. I love doing that because it's
- 4:01great. It's a great way to again, just
- 4:05just share ideas and thoughts and get people's voices, heard
- 4:11out here on the larger spectrum of things.
- 4:13But again, this, this particular topic doesn't come from any one
- 4:16of those sorts of things, but it's a topic that I don't recall
- 4:23ever having done a video or a podcast on before.
- 4:28So, you know, I thought Why not? Let's explore it and it's the
- 4:33topic or the. Yeah, the topic is that of
- 4:37guilt. Versus shame.
- 4:43And here we go, right off the rip with the with the hacking in
- 4:46the coffin. So bear with me guys.
- 4:48As we go through the rest of this episode do the best that I
- 4:50can to be as least disruptive as possible.
- 4:56But yeah, this guilt versus shame and how it fits into a
- 5:01heathen world view. Does it fit into a heathen world
- 5:04view as their place for such things?
- 5:09And so I wanted to talk about that this weekend at least.
- 5:11Give you my perspective on it and open it up for discussion
- 5:16and give you guys some things to think about.
- 5:19So before I do go into this, I realize that this particular
- 5:23topic is a larger non Heathen related topic.
- 5:26You know, we're talking about things of of of a psychology
- 5:32perhaps? Yeah, psychology realm, you know
- 5:36and I am not by any means or any stretch of the of the In the
- 5:41psychologist. I've not studied the the human
- 5:44mind or any of those sorts of things.
- 5:49Or the way the human mind works in any sort of academic or
- 5:54professional degree. So bear that in mind as you
- 5:57listen and watch the rest of this that, you know, My Views
- 6:01are coming strictly from just conversations.
- 6:04I've had You know the my experiences, right?
- 6:09So and and you know this is not going to be one of those
- 6:13episodes that I have any technically in a, you know,
- 6:17Source material. Because again we're talking
- 6:18about things of the human psyche of the human mind things that
- 6:23are going on you know, within ourselves or within the
- 6:26communities around us. So I won't have any like you
- 6:30know, you can read about here in this you know, literature or in
- 6:34this Poem, or in this, you know, whatever piece of academic work,
- 6:41I'm sure. There's probably examples of
- 6:44that existing for this particular topic.
- 6:46I just haven't come across some yet, so as I go through this and
- 6:50if you have anything that you want to share in the comments
- 6:52and you know, right in or whatever, then feel free to do.
- 6:55So, but yeah, so guilt and shame, you know, I think a lot
- 7:03of times this these words get You know, they get they get used
- 7:11interchangeably met many times. There's excuse me, it's going to
- 7:19be like that guys, I'm sorry. But there's there's, you know,
- 7:23cases where Guilt and shame. Get you get, you know the terms,
- 7:29get used interchangeably. Perhaps to mean the same thing,
- 7:33but I see a definite difference between the two of those things.
- 7:39So you know, for me and I think just, you know, a basic or
- 7:44general understanding is that you know, guilt is something
- 7:47that is Then I'm not going to, I'm not going to go, you know,
- 7:54you guys can look up the dictionary.
- 7:55Definitions of these words, you know what guilt is, or what
- 7:58shame is, by definition, in, the Merriam-Webster the whatever
- 8:02version of the dictionary that is being used or referenced
- 8:04nowadays. But the way I see it is that,
- 8:08you know, guilt is for person. That is, you know, dishing it
- 8:14out and in a way and I'll maybe get into some ideas or examples
- 8:20of somebody that's being guilted or trying to guilt someone.
- 8:23It's not for that person. That's on the receiving end,
- 8:25it's more for the person that's dishing it out, you know, on the
- 8:29giving end whereas you know, shame is is is something that
- 8:35could potentially be beneficial. To that person that is receiving
- 8:40it to be shamed or to feel shame, you know, for refer for
- 8:48something that is being done. You can make someone feel
- 8:53ashamed of doing something, you know, ridiculous stupid
- 8:57ill-advised without making them feel guilty.
- 9:02And I think there's a big there, there's there there in lies, you
- 9:06know, the big difference because guilt again, it has It does have
- 9:11morality definitely tied into it.
- 9:14And in certain religions I think for sure it is definitely a
- 9:19thing that, you know, to guilt someone or to make someone feel
- 9:23guilty, it's used as a method of control.
- 9:28And I think this is going to be the the particular areas of
- 9:33focus that I want to, you know, pay attention to here.
- 9:41Assuming that I can make it through here without hacking up
- 9:46a lung. So, shame is for correction, we
- 9:52can look at it in that context, is that, you know, to shame
- 9:56someone for someone to feel shame can be for their benefit,
- 9:59and it can be for them to, you know, correct.
- 10:02The issue we're in opposition. Guilt is for control.
- 10:08So we're looking at, you know, guilt versus shame control vs.
- 10:15Correction. And this is a again, just a non
- 10:18Heathen perspective of it, but I think it can fit into our
- 10:22Heathen World Views and into some of our Heathen circles or
- 10:27tribes or kindred's, even appropriately.
- 10:30So, it's like an example. I like, let's say you want to
- 10:32look at just a non Heathen example of it.
- 10:35If if you know, let's say we've got a family Mom, dad and a
- 10:42child. And the child is is, you know,
- 10:50wanting a cookie before dinner and the child steals the cookie.
- 10:55Without the parent knowing, you know, goes behind their back,
- 10:58sneaks into the cupboard, into the into the drawer into
- 11:01wherever the thing that they want is kept and they steal it
- 11:07if guilt is implemented in any guilt.
- 11:11Culture approach. The thing that is being sought
- 11:18is to purposely or purposefully create inner turmoil for that,
- 11:26for that person, right? Because we can see that that
- 11:30that's what guilt is. It's that inner turmoil, I feel
- 11:33guilty. For having done XYZ because I
- 11:37am, I am guilty of doing it, right?
- 11:39So you you made a mistake, you you transgress, you you broke
- 11:43the Law, whatever. And if you'd actually did it,
- 11:46then you are guilty. But the inner turmoil that is
- 11:49that is created. And guilt culture is, again,
- 11:53coming from the person, that is Doling it out in order to in a
- 12:00way, right? Prevent that behavior from
- 12:04recurring So, you know, you could look at it, you know, once
- 12:07the parent discovers that this child stole the cookie out of
- 12:13the cookie jar or took what was not supposed to be?
- 12:15There's they would perhaps in a guilt culture, sort of way.
- 12:22Say something like, you know, you doing that.
- 12:25Made me feel really, really sad. You know, you don't ever want to
- 12:30make me sad again, do you? You don't want to disappoint me?
- 12:33You see what you did was wrong, right?
- 12:35And it puts it puts the focus on perpetuating and creating that
- 12:44inner turmoil and just in feeling and making that person
- 12:46feel really for lack of a better term just really shitty.
- 12:51So as a result of that, you know, the the perpetrator will
- 12:56put in this case, the child for having stolen that cookie is
- 12:58going to feel guilty over. First of all, just doing what
- 13:03they did which as a result hurt the person whom they love In a
- 13:09way, right? It hurt their feelings, it
- 13:11negatively impacted them. And so that child may not ever
- 13:17theoretically, they may not ever, you know, repeat that
- 13:20action again, not out of the reason that they've learned that
- 13:27it's wrong, but that they want to prevent Any doing anything in
- 13:35the future? It's going to hurt that person,
- 13:37right? So it's not out of, I've learned
- 13:38my lesson, I see what I did was wrong and that's why I don't
- 13:42want to do it again. It's I'm being chastised and
- 13:46scolded and made to feel, you know, feel really, really bad
- 13:50inside. And and because of that, I don't
- 13:52want to do it. I don't want to do that thing
- 13:54again. It's going to make me feel this
- 13:55way or put a bad feeling on someone that I care about,
- 14:00right? So there's an example, I think
- 14:02of what we could say is guilt. Now, shame.
- 14:09Could be seen as the thing that is, you know, saying way it's
- 14:13pointing out to that child, that stole that cookie, that they did
- 14:18something wrong. It's not that look what you've
- 14:20done to me. Look how you've hurt me, you
- 14:22know, look what you've done to make me feel bad, you little
- 14:27piece of crap garbage. You you little bastard.
- 14:30You you little whatever. You know, look what you've done.
- 14:33See how it made me feel Instead it's look what you've done
- 14:38that's wrong. And here's why that cookie,
- 14:41right? We're going to just go back to
- 14:43that example of that kid, you know, here's what you did was
- 14:47wrong because that Cookie doesn't belong to you.
- 14:51It's not for you to take, you've done something wrong and you and
- 14:56it's wrong because it's not yours.
- 14:59You didn't, you know, it's not for you to just up and take
- 15:05something that it doesn't belong to you, you know, better than
- 15:08that. I raised you better than that,
- 15:09you know, better than that. You know, that you're supposed
- 15:12to. Ask first.
- 15:13You're supposed to wait, until after dinner, right?
- 15:16Whatever the, you know, again, I'm using hypothetical examples
- 15:21here, but I think that the, the lesson is well enough
- 15:26established hear that. Shaming the child saying that,
- 15:30you know, better than this. You've been taught better than
- 15:33this, you know, I've raised you to be better than that.
- 15:36You don't do stuff like this because of the fact that it's
- 15:40wrong, and here's the reason why it's not that, you know, you
- 15:43little Hellion, you know, what is wrong with you?
- 15:46Look at how could how you made me feel, look what you've done,
- 15:48you know. It's a different approach and
- 15:51it's for a different reason and the shame part is is yes, you've
- 15:55done something wrong. You should pay for the wrong
- 15:59that you've done there is there is there is a punishment you
- 16:03know that that needs to be implemented for having done the
- 16:06wrong thing but the shame is what you feel and that is a way
- 16:12that I feel is going to Correct. The behavior to prevent it from
- 16:22happening again versus using using using a method that is
- 16:28that is that is it is by inherent design a way of
- 16:32controlling somebody. you know and from a heathen perspective
- 16:42excuse me, you know I think that shame culture has an absolutely
- 16:49valuable and valid place in amongst our worldviews you know
- 16:56without without Law Without order without you know, creating
- 17:04that that system that corrects wrongdoing, we run the risk of
- 17:11having Everything just just flopping around and having no
- 17:20structure having no control having the order.
- 17:23And I, you know, say control, not in the sense of what I was
- 17:27talking about before where, you know, guilting somebody and in
- 17:31hand and being controlling over them.
- 17:33But, but, but again, having that sense of water, having that
- 17:35sense of decency lawfulness, right?
- 17:39It goes back to ancient Germanic worldviews that, you know,
- 17:44Happens. Within a lawful Society is that
- 17:48which is good. And so what is good is
- 17:50considered to be lawful when you act lawfully, when you act good,
- 17:53you are you you are behaving in a way that is Honorable
- 18:00virtuous. Your worth is higher, your worth
- 18:04is, is more. And in worth is something placed
- 18:09on You by The People, by Society, you know.
- 18:12So by your You're by the community by by your tribe.
- 18:17Perhaps if we look at it now today to you are worth more to
- 18:22your tribe. If you are abiding by the rules
- 18:25and doing things that are within the lawful order or construct of
- 18:32your inner. Enter yards or of that of that
- 18:36tribal structure goes back to an old word that I've talked about
- 18:40a little bit in the past but that Old English word through
- 18:43meaning law. So through is, is Law.
- 18:46And it is, the it is, it is the thing to be abided by, right?
- 18:51We're so bide by the law were to follow the law.
- 18:53And when you break the law, when you break the rules, then you
- 18:58should be. You should expect to feel
- 19:03ashamed. For having done.
- 19:04So, not because it hurt everybody else's feelings or
- 19:07that it, you know, you're, you're, you're a terrible little
- 19:10POS for doing it, but you should feel shame and be ashamed.
- 19:17And for doing it because of the fact that you have broken, that,
- 19:23that lawfulness that, that trust, you have broken that,
- 19:27that thing that Has been established.
- 19:32As being something to hold the society, hold your tribes luck
- 19:37together and in hold everything, where it should be for benefit
- 19:41of everybody else, you know? So, without shame, there
- 19:46there's, there's no real incentive.
- 19:48There's no reason to Pro beep, prevent yourself from doing it.
- 19:51If you can just, you know, freely go about doing anything
- 19:57that we that you care to do and not, You know, get any sense of
- 20:03repercussion if there's no consequence to what you're
- 20:06doing. There's there's if you're not
- 20:08shamed for doing wrong or doing something that is against that,
- 20:13which is lawful, that which is good.
- 20:15Then it's just, you know, it's the wild west and you just, you
- 20:18know, everybody does, whatever the hell they want, and there's
- 20:20the again, there's, there's no repercussion, there's no
- 20:22consequence, there's no balance, and it's unlawful, and it's
- 20:26lawlessness and everybody, its Anarchy, you know, everybody
- 20:30just does. Say whatever the hell they want.
- 20:34So again I like it I look at it as a very valuable thing or
- 20:39something. Potentially a value when done
- 20:41rightly you can again we can run the risk.
- 20:47Especially in modern Heathen tribes.
- 20:49And I saw something one time about why we think or why
- 20:55people, why is it that, you know, why do you think that that
- 20:58modern Heathen kindred's? Modern Heathen tribes tend to
- 21:02just fall apart and tend to have you know little to no duration
- 21:09like the there. There's they're not around for
- 21:11very long. You see groups pop up here there
- 21:14and then they fizzle out and they don't last.
- 21:15Why is that And I, you know, I think it has a lot to do with
- 21:20ego hubris, various things that of the human.
- 21:26Everybody wants to be in charge of but he wants to be great.
- 21:28Everyone. What he wants to do, everybody
- 21:31wants to be known for something but but not a lot of people are
- 21:33willing to put in the work to do the things that a thrall would
- 21:37have to do in order before being seen as as kingly or as somebody
- 21:44of a higher esteem. You know what I mean?
- 21:48Not a lot of people want to put the work in and so when the work
- 21:52isn't done and when those foundations aren't laid, its it
- 21:59there's no There's no way for for things to grow.
- 22:05You know, I've had conversations with other people at other
- 22:09times, some of which I've shared a little bit on this channel and
- 22:13maybe not in recent podcast, but over the years that, you know,
- 22:18Heathen re is, is Grass Roots. It is, it is something that
- 22:22needs to be first of all. Established at the Grassroots
- 22:30level nurtured at the Grassroots groups, Grassroots level.
- 22:35Furthered at the Grassroots level and maintain that at that
- 22:41level and without putting in the work without boots on the ground
- 22:45without the actual doing of things, if it's all just talk,
- 22:48talk, talk, yak, yak. Yak You.
- 22:51No, and no. And no Deeds no doing it doesn't
- 22:55it doesn't stand a chance. And into to speak to the topic
- 23:03at hand. You know, when things are done
- 23:06that are that go against what has been established as being
- 23:12the right and good and lawful thing to do.
- 23:15But then the smaller circles Within These smaller, kindred's
- 23:18groups tribes, what have you? You know, when things when
- 23:22someone or when a group or when when people violate the rules?
- 23:28If there's no. if they're, if they're not, you know, the
- 23:32opportunity to Be ashamed of that.
- 23:36And to know why that wrong was done, and then being given the
- 23:39chance to correct it. There's, I don't think there's
- 23:42there's any Opportunity for growth because that is fact,
- 23:48right? Like that's that's the truth of
- 23:49it. You're going to make mistakes.
- 23:50Things are going to be done that are wrong and you've got to pay
- 23:54the shield, you have to pay that recompense.
- 23:56You have to pay the where guilt as it were you know, so if if
- 24:02things are stolen you need to pay it back.
- 24:04If, if life was taken, you had to pay it with a life or, or do
- 24:09whatever the the recompense was for that crime, you know, do the
- 24:14crime do the time. I'm Excuse me.
- 24:20And be ashamed of it. Be ashamed of it.
- 24:25And if you're not then you know, That guy could be a another
- 24:30topic or that could be another thing.
- 24:31But if you're, you know, if you don't feel ashamed for having
- 24:34done wrong, then maybe you know, maybe that group isn't for you
- 24:39or you're not for them. because again, it goes back to what
- 24:44you've done has now, you know, negatively impacted the
- 24:54collective the overall Society, right?
- 25:02It's not about how it made them feel, it's about what was wrong
- 25:06and why it was wrong. You know, you did this thing
- 25:11that was against our customs, it was against our food was against
- 25:14our, our law. And you should be ashamed of
- 25:18yourself for it. You should be ashamed, you know
- 25:20better than this. You came into our group knowing
- 25:24full well What our customs were you know, and you are fully
- 25:30aware of what is expected of you.
- 25:34You know, and you have failed to do so.
- 25:38And you should be ashamed of yourself.
- 25:40And I remember as a kid too, you know especially as we got older,
- 25:44maybe some other folks here will remember what it was.
- 25:46Like growing up, you know, when when you disobeyed your parents,
- 25:50when you, when you went against their wishes and did things that
- 25:54were against the rules, broke the rules, you know, it was one
- 26:00of those things that used to hurt us more than the punishment
- 26:06was knowing that we We're that we've, that we brought shame to
- 26:12our parents, right? I'm not.
- 26:13It's not that I'm mad. It's that I'm disappointed.
- 26:16I'm not mad at you. I'm ashamed of you.
- 26:18You know, we're, you know, that sort of thing.
- 26:20And that's a powerful, it's a powerful thing for any sort of
- 26:27unit, right? If whether it whether it's a
- 26:28family, the clan, the larger broader, Extension of that
- 26:36family. Same thing applies I think if
- 26:42we're not held to a standard for not held accountable for our
- 26:46deeds and as I said before, it's just a wild west.
- 26:49Anybody just does whatever they feel like doing.
- 26:52It's no consequence, no repercussion.
- 26:57And that could be a problem. Definitely can be a problem.
- 27:02So gonna take a quick break, I want to give you guys a message
- 27:06from a recent, Project a recent volunteer program that is that
- 27:12is surfaced out of Appalachia but it is open.
- 27:15Oh it is it is wide open to the world.
- 27:17It's not just a regional or local thing.
- 27:20We're going to take a quick break.
- 27:21Here's some words from our sponsors and we'll be right
- 27:23back. Today's episode is brought to
- 27:29you by Appalachia animism and more specifically the sacred
- 27:35Trail society and affiliation volunteer program of the
- 27:39Appalachia or Appalachian animism site.
- 27:43So the sacred Trail Society is a volunteer base Community effort
- 27:47for environmental awareness and custodianship volunteers.
- 27:52Work. Hands-On in local communities.
- 27:55Like Wildlife spaces, trails and waterways parks and Greenways,
- 27:59practicing and encouraging. A personal responsibility for
- 28:03ourselves and fellow humankind in the shared Wildlife spaces
- 28:08for all life to enjoy. Although we are part of nature.
- 28:13We only visit these places while the plant and animal life there
- 28:17call it home. All Trails may be considered
- 28:21sacred in their own, right? But even more.
- 28:23So for their potential to host me, meaningful experiences for
- 28:27any who visit or travel them the plant and animal life, that
- 28:31reside there in the spirits of all who lived there before,
- 28:35contribute to the experience, and offering of an opportunity
- 28:39to connect their preservation of the natural and Wild Spaces.
- 28:44We share with the earth water sky and all its inhabitants are
- 28:48of the utmost importance in our mission.
- 28:53Natural Wild Spaces are in constant decline as the push to
- 28:58develop land increases their, for the opportunity to share and
- 29:03enjoying them is dwindling. Giving us all the more reason to
- 29:07take care of them, doing what we can to maintain them.
- 29:12Keeping the land and water clean from trash later and leavings
- 29:17that do not belong there. Also helps to keep the air clean
- 29:21and the native plant and animal life healthy.
- 29:26Taking part in this effort. And movement is as simple as
- 29:29bringing a bag along with you. When visiting these spaces in
- 29:33your local community, Collecting trash or litter.
- 29:37Others have left behind and disposing of it properly and
- 29:41responsibly the wildlife will. Thank you as will.
- 29:46The next person that visits and is able to enjoy the space, as
- 29:51it should be free from litter. The sacred Trail Society
- 29:57volunteer efforts do not include streets highways Interstate
- 30:00cleanup or roadways with motor vehicle traffic.

- 30:07an area where dangers are present.
- 30:10So if you want to be a part of the Sacred Trail Society, you

- 30:25photos of you cleaning up the land in nature near and where
- 30:30you are and using the hashtag sacred Trail Society on your
- 30:34social media. So check it out.
- 30:36Details are in the description and show notes of this podcast.
- 30:41Thank you guys, so much for listening.
- 30:42Let's get back to the show. Hope you enjoyed that little
- 30:50break of sponsorship messages, Etc.
- 30:55As I say sponsorship, you know, anything about what?
- 30:58I just want, you may have just heard sacred Trail Society.
- 31:02You guys have heard me talk about, if you over to your
- 31:04Workshop, Papa Olufsen, been out there to his residence in the
- 31:11Blue Ridge Mountains and this This is largely, his doing my
- 31:18name, and my tribe's name has been attached as co-founders of
- 31:22the Sacred shell Society. But it's mainly his, and his
- 31:26wife's efforts to launch this volunteer community programs, so
- 31:32do be sure to check it all out. Doesn't cost you anything but it
- 31:38the good the return that you get from being involved, you know?
- 31:42I mean, I do. Almost every day of the week.
- 31:45I'm, I'm out here walking the greenway and stuff near the
- 31:48house. So, you know, being out here and
- 31:51taking care of the land being like, it was mentioned before
- 31:54the custodians are the stewards of this land, you know, and
- 32:00doing things to help. Upkeep the place, you know, and
- 32:04it's, again, it's a great segue into the topic today because,
- 32:08you know, when I'm out here and I'm sure you all have had these
- 32:11feelings do when you're out in nature and you see the remains
- 32:15of human filth trash things that are not biodegradable or things
- 32:22that just litter the world, I am ashamed.
- 32:30It hurts me to see that. There are people out here who
- 32:35give little to no regard for their home.
- 32:39Because this is our home to, guys, this is our home.
- 32:43This planet is our home. There ain't another one out
- 32:45here. Ain't like, you know, well,
- 32:46when, when the pipes bust and the roof leaks, and whatever we
- 32:50can just sell it and move somewhere else.
- 32:52No, this is our home. And it's been our home and
- 32:54we're, we're treating, it really poorly, you know, and I can't
- 32:58help. But Wonder, Under, you know, if
- 33:01this is the way that you're going to treat the land then
- 33:05what would, how do you treat your your own living space?
- 33:08You know, I would love to catch someone just carelessly
- 33:12discarding trash. However, big or small, you know,
- 33:19instead of holding onto it, bringing it to a trash, trash
- 33:21receptacle, right? Doing, you know, again,
- 33:23disposing of it responsibly and safely II would love to see
- 33:31these people right then and there in person and shame them
- 33:39for what they're doing, right? You should be ashamed of
- 33:41yourselves. Pick that up, put it in your
- 33:44pocket. Carry a bag with you.
- 33:46I was out on the on the greenway today and you're going to love
- 33:49this, you know, people walk their dogs.
- 33:53There's a there's a dog park not too far down the road and that's
- 33:55great, you know, get your dogs out and they and they They do
- 34:01their business as animals do. No big deal, and people actually
- 34:05have the, they they go through the effort of a picking up their
- 34:08animals. you know, crap putting it in a bag and then I shit you
- 34:15not. The dogs did it but I should you
- 34:16not. There was a bag of animal.
- 34:22Dung. Okay, left right on the side of
- 34:26the green way. I'm like you went through the
- 34:27effort of picking it up and then just left it.
- 34:30There, you might as well have just let this shit lie where it
- 34:34was because at least that's biodegradable menu.
- 34:36Now, you put it in this plastic bag, that's not eco-friendly.
- 34:39So you you know what, whatever idea you had to pick it up,
- 34:44trying to, you know, clean up after my pet.
- 34:47Yeah. But then in the interim you just
- 34:49made litter. You need an Indian, you made the
- 34:52situation worse. I tell you man, like the whole
- 34:57Shane thing like you know, you should know better than this.
- 35:01These people ought to know better than this and if they
- 35:03don't then man, they need some help, getting educated because
- 35:06you ought to know that, you know, fecal, matter is
- 35:09biodegradable, it's going to it's going to break down.
- 35:12It's going to return back into the Earth and do whatever it
- 35:14does. But at least with that, you
- 35:16know, kick it off the road, maybe kick it out of the way of
- 35:19people's walking paths, you know.
- 35:23Flick it off into the wood line or something, but don't put it
- 35:26in a plastic bag. That's not eco-friendly.
- 35:29That's not biodegradable and just leave it there.
- 35:33You know, you people ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
- 35:36You know, I have half a mind to just sitting out there and watch
- 35:38people with soda cans beer, cans bottles, food, wrappers things
- 35:44and then you know, they get done eating it and have to freakin
- 35:46lazy to carry it to the next Garbage Pail that they see.
- 35:50Instead, they just Chuck it in the woods are off to the trail.
- 35:54It's sad. So yeah.
- 36:00Those people ought to be ashamed of themselves.
- 36:03But what, what, you know, what you going to do?
- 36:07We're not going to fix it. This is, this has been an
- 36:08ongoing problem for, you know, literally all of of time.
- 36:13I think really since humans have taken up residence here, you
- 36:17know, there's always going to be places where the remains of
- 36:21mankind, less than Savory parts are are left.
- 36:27So what can we do? You know, we can sit here, we
- 36:29can gripe about it, or we can do something about it, and This is
- 36:37one way of doing it. You know, being an example
- 36:40showing an example, inspiring other people to do it to not
- 36:45just to to walk by. Look at it and go.
- 36:47Oh, isn't that sad? Isn't that pathetic?
- 36:51That's horrible. I hate that.
- 36:52Well, let's do something about it.
- 36:54Carry a bag with us. You know, carry that trash with
- 36:59us and then get rid of it dispose of it properly and
- 37:02responsibly not leave it on the trail for it to just Be of
- 37:09detriment to the local Wildlife, to the spirits of a tear of the
- 37:14land. You know, that's been a topic
- 37:15here recently to write how to honor the VA tear the land.
- 37:20But here, here's a way to do it. Help keep their home clean.
- 37:25They will appreciate it, and I think good will come of it.
- 37:28For those of us that are In tune enough to want to do good and to
- 37:34be good for them. And it's benefit for all of us,
- 37:38you know, like I said, this is our home too, we share space
- 37:42with them. And if you wouldn't leave your
- 37:46home in such a trashy State, I sure hope you wouldn't.
- 37:52I've been in some people's homes, that make me question.
- 37:57but, Hey, you know, if you wouldn't, leave your house and
- 38:00such a trashy State, then why would you do that to the, to
- 38:06the, to the forces to the spirits that were here before
- 38:08you were? It's very disrespectful.
- 38:11It's not very, it's not very cool of you man.
- 38:12It's not very bright. It's not very good.
- 38:16Should be ashamed, that's what you do.
- 38:20So anyway, I would love to hear what you guys think about it.
- 38:22This is a relatively Short episode mainly just because I'm
- 38:27struggling to get through talking, but I didn't want in a
- 38:30week to go by where you guys didn't have anything to at least
- 38:33Ponder, think about share with your your people have
- 38:38conversations about yourself. So I would love to know where do
- 38:42you guys see the separation? The difference is between guilt
- 38:48culture and shame culture and does one or the other or both or
- 38:54neither have a place in our Heathen world view.
- 38:58I, for one think that shame culture is a valuable part of
- 39:02our Heathen world view. I think definitely has a place
- 39:06I'm done. Rightly, I don't think guilt
- 39:08culture has a place because again, it's about correcting,
- 39:15It's not about control, the guilt thing, leans, more into
- 39:19the control aspects of things and wanting to be in control, or
- 39:22have control over someone or someone's.
- 39:26Whereas, the shame culture is more derived from a place of
- 39:31wanting to correct. And show, hey, you're wrong.
- 39:34Here's why you ought to know better than that and now let's
- 39:37fix it. Find the way to correct it.
- 39:41So thank you all for kind of putting up with my random
- 39:45Heathen coughing's today. It's been a little challenging
- 39:50to try to, not to just leave my lungs out here on this table.
