- 0:21Speaker 3: Alex can't go through the building alone.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Well, I don't... Yeah, I mean, all the people that
- 0:25Speaker 2: stop him for autographs and pictures.
- 0:26Speaker 4: He's getting his flowers with his bills. Josh Allen, hey,
- 0:29Speaker 4: he's smelling his farts, as you like to say.
- 0:31Speaker 2: He really is.
- 0:32Speaker 3: He told you he's not good, Paul.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Darius in Louisville writes in, I agree with Fred. That's
- 0:36Speaker 2: why I'm reading your email. Dion Walker is much of
- 0:39Speaker 2: a problem as well.
- 0:40Speaker 3: He's a psycho, man. He's just, I mean.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I admit, I don't know. Ed Drush was like, I
- 0:44Speaker 2: know why receivers, but... Gabe Ackes makes me tingly inside. Hey,
- 0:48Speaker 2: do you know Shabbat?
- 0:50Speaker 3: Shabbat?
- 0:52Speaker 2: I didn't know that rule. I didn't know that rule.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I didn't know that rule.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Paul and I did.
- 0:57Speaker 2: They were doing fly sweeps. They were doing shifts into
- 1:00Speaker 2: the formations.
- 1:02Speaker 3: This is Patriots Unfiltered. Presented by Toyota.com.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Alright, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here at
- 1:12Speaker 2: Gillette Stadium. And of course, every Wednesday we turn the page.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Unless it's a Thursday game. Or a Monday game. Anyway,
- 1:20Speaker 2: we're going to turn the page to the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Every time I have to think twice because I want
- 1:27Speaker 2: to say Oakland. But it's the Las Vegas Raiders. And
- 1:32Speaker 2: 3-1 Las Vegas Raiders. So they've snuck up on a
- 1:35Speaker 2: few teams. Question is... Will the Patriots allow them to
- 1:39Speaker 2: sneak up on them? Or is it really sneaking up
- 1:41Speaker 2: on the Patriots?
- 1:42Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:42Speaker 2: We're going to talk about all of that. It's Evan.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's Paul. It's me. It's Matt in the booth. And so, guys,
- 1:51Speaker 2: what are we thinking about going into this game against,
- 1:55Speaker 2: I don't know, is it a team that we know?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Or a team that we kind of don't know. You know,
- 2:00Speaker 2: Kirk Cousins is the quarterback and all that.
- 2:03Speaker 3: A little of both. New coach, new scheme.
- 2:05Speaker 2: New coach. Yeah, but, you know, they just played Kubiak
- 2:08Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl.
- 2:09Speaker 5: So I would say pretty similar.
- 2:12Speaker 4: That's the one thing that kind of worries me a
- 2:14Speaker 4: little bit. Because I really don't have much fear of
- 2:16Speaker 4: the Raiders. I'm going to put it out there like
- 2:17Speaker 4: you normally do.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:19Speaker 4: You know, they're 3-1.
- 2:21Speaker 3: That's a good record. They're off to a good start.
- 2:23Speaker 3: It just would.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Just say that three wins, the teams are a combined
- 2:26Speaker 4: one and 11 that they beat.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Okay. Fair enough.
- 2:30Speaker 4: I'm not overly concerned.
- 2:31Speaker 2: People would do that to us.
- 2:32Speaker 4: I'm not overly concerned with the Raiders per se, but
- 2:35Speaker 4: Evan touched on something right there with Kubiak. You're right.
- 2:39Speaker 3: They just prepared for his offense, but he also prepared
- 2:42Speaker 3: for their defense.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:44Speaker 4: And I do think some of the things that Zach
- 2:47Speaker 4: Kord does might take a little getting used to. some
- 2:51Speaker 4: of the different schemes that they use and the stunts
- 2:54Speaker 4: up front. And I think it's probably realistic that Kubiak
- 2:58Speaker 4: is a little bit more prepared for some of that
- 3:00Speaker 4: stuff than maybe some other guys would be.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I just think if I was a team in
- 3:04Speaker 3: their position, I'd feel pretty good right now.
- 3:06Speaker 7: I mean, you draft Mendoza and Cousins has come in
- 3:08Speaker 7: and played really well, so you don't feel the need
- 3:10Speaker 7: to rush Mendoza. I think Brady would probably agree. I
- 3:14Speaker 7: wonder if his You know, fingerprints are a little bit
- 3:16Speaker 7: on this. In his perfect world, Mendoza's got a chance
- 3:19Speaker 7: to develop.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Is he starting? No, no. But, you know, it's just
- 3:21Speaker 3: they got Cousins there.
- 3:22Speaker 7: It's like when you brought Brissette, and Brissette was okay
- 3:25Speaker 7: enough that the drums started beating pretty quick when he
- 3:29Speaker 7: didn't play well.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Now Cousins has played really well. He's thrown 11 touchdowns.
- 3:33Speaker 7: He really seems like he's leaning on these tight ends
- 3:36Speaker 7: and throwing the gente out of the backfield. So I
- 3:39Speaker 7: think that they're in a good spot. You've got to
- 3:40Speaker 7: feel pretty good. You brought a new coach in. You're
- 3:42Speaker 7: off to a 3-1 start. I mean, Paul mentioned the schedule,
- 3:44Speaker 7: but when you're that team and you're in relegation and
- 3:47Speaker 7: you're down near the bottom, beat the good teams. So
- 3:50Speaker 7: I think for them, this is a little bit more
- 3:52Speaker 7: of a measuring stick on the road. I mean, they
- 3:54Speaker 7: played Kansas City tough last week, but division game, you.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Know each other.
- 3:57Speaker 7: A little more unknown this week. I think it's a
- 3:59Speaker 7: great test for the Patriots. It's a good team.
- 4:02Speaker 5: They scored that last touchdown with like a minute.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Well, yeah, but they should have been able to score that.
- 4:07Speaker 4: If they don't fumble the kickoff there, they had the lead.
- 4:10Speaker 2: It's 30-19 with two minutes to go.
- 4:14Speaker 3: But with four minutes to go, the Raiders were winning. Yeah,
- 4:17Speaker 3: that's fair.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Kenneth Walker scored two touchdowns in the last four minutes
- 4:19Speaker 4: of the game.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I just, I'm kind of with you about the, like.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm more focusing on their wins than the loss.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I think that what they've done a good job of,
- 4:29Speaker 5: and it was kind of similar to, I would say
- 4:31Speaker 5: the Patriots more last year, is they spent all this
- 4:33Speaker 5: money in free agency to bring in a bunch of
- 4:35Speaker 5: veteran guys that could just kind of raise the floor
- 4:38Speaker 5: of the team.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And so far it's worked.
- 4:40Speaker 5: They spent, you know, $ 230 million in guaranteed money in
- 4:43Speaker 5: free agency last year.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. Yes, they beat bad teams, but
- 4:48Speaker 2: they were a bad team. So does this mean that
- 4:50Speaker 2: they've now... They're not a bad team anymore.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I think, like, you know, if you look at
- 4:54Speaker 5: the advanced metrics that adjust for schedule and all that stuff,
- 4:57Speaker 5: they're probably now closer to middle of the pack versus
- 5:01Speaker 5: bottom of the league.
- 5:02Speaker 2: And, you know, that's to their credit. That's good.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Yeah, they've gotten good offensive coaching, especially, I would say.
- 5:09Speaker 5: You know, Clint Kubiak is another Shanahan guy, and he's another,
- 5:13Speaker 5: you know, his father, obviously, is a big-time Shanahan guy.
- 5:16Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 5: They're doing a lot of the same things that they
- 5:19Speaker 5: did in Seattle offensively. They've honestly done a lot of
- 5:22Speaker 5: the same things defensively, too, as what the Seahawks do.
- 5:26Speaker 5: They're trying to emulate schematically what Kubiak was doing with
- 5:32Speaker 5: the Seahawks last year. I would just say Bowers is
- 5:37Speaker 5: obviously great. but they don't really have, like, a vertical threat.
- 5:41Speaker 5: You know, Trey Tucker's, like, a speed slot kind of player,
- 5:44Speaker 5: but he's more like a Pop Douglas than, like, an
- 5:47Speaker 5: outside-the-numbers vertical threat. Their run game has not been very good.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It's surprising, because Jenty's a good player. We think.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:55Speaker 2: TBD on that. And so....
- 5:59Speaker 5: Their run game hasn't been good statistically. They don't really
- 6:02Speaker 5: have much of a deep passing game. It's a lot
- 6:05Speaker 5: of first and second level breaking routes, right? Like slants
- 6:09Speaker 5: and outs and ins and angle routes and things like that,
- 6:14Speaker 5: that Kirk Cousins is playing with pretty good rhythm on.
- 6:18Speaker 5: So that's really like, I think the thing is, is
- 6:21Speaker 5: that they've started well. But I do feel like they're
- 6:25Speaker 5: a little bit limited offensively that once teams start to
- 6:28Speaker 5: get more tape on them and start to realize what
- 6:31Speaker 5: it is that they're doing around Kirk Cousins, I worry
- 6:34Speaker 5: for them that maybe they're going to start getting some
- 6:37Speaker 5: things taken away and then we'll see about how, you know,
- 6:39Speaker 5: if Kirk Cousins can keep this up because, you know,
- 6:42Speaker 5: I still don't feel like they really threaten you in
- 6:47Speaker 5: certain ways, especially throwing the ball down the field.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I mean, the success the Patriots had last week with
- 6:52Speaker 2: Kincaid should bode well for Bowers this week, or no?
- 6:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he's probably a better player, and they're
- 6:59Speaker 5: a little bit more unique in how they use him.
- 7:01Speaker 5: They line him out wide a lot, and he basically
- 7:06Speaker 5: plays like a wide receiver in a lot of their formations.
- 7:09Speaker 2: So what are you going to do? Are you going to.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Have one of the corners cover him if they're going
- 7:15Speaker 5: to play man? Are you going to have the safeties?
- 7:17Speaker 5: Do you trust the safeties? Are you going to just
- 7:19Speaker 5: kind of be aware of him and, you know, do
- 7:21Speaker 5: different things zone coverage wise to have hyper awareness like
- 7:24Speaker 5: they did with Kincaid? I think those are all questions about.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Bauer specifically, because if you cover Bowers with a safety,
- 7:31Speaker 5: then he's going to give you trouble. I think that
- 7:34Speaker 5: that's a mismatch, regardless pretty much of who the safety
- 7:37Speaker 5: is across the NFL.
- 7:39Speaker 2: So that's a big one.
- 7:41Speaker 5: But like I said, I think that they're, to use
- 7:44Speaker 5: your term, Fred, I think they're kind of easy to
- 7:46Speaker 5: defend on paper.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I don't really think that there's much else to worry about.
- 7:51Speaker 2: How's their O-line?
- 7:53Speaker 5: Their offensive line, they've invested a lot in it, and
- 7:56Speaker 5: Tyler Linderbaum came over as their big free agent signing
- 7:59Speaker 5: at center. It's been hit or miss, especially as a
- 8:03Speaker 5: run-blocking unit right now. Pass protection's been pretty good, but
- 8:06Speaker 5: the run-blocking's been so-so, and Jenty hasn't really gotten going. Actually,
- 8:11Speaker 5: their rookie, Mike Washington, is kind of having a better run.
- 8:14Speaker 5: start to the season than genti right now so i
- 8:16Speaker 5: don't know what's going on with that but um it's
- 8:19Speaker 5: it's an interesting offense uh because they are built from
- 8:23Speaker 5: the tight ends and uh they're built like with all
- 8:26Speaker 5: these kind of rhythm throws underneath the defense and stuff
- 8:28Speaker 5: like that i just wonder once teams start to get
- 8:31Speaker 5: a beat on that's what they're kind of doing i
- 8:33Speaker 5: i don't know if they have a a left hand
- 8:35Speaker 5: you know left hook uh to to complement.
- 8:37Speaker 4: It i have visions of core really getting after Kirk Cousins.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Kind of like what you saw with Rodgers in week two.
- 8:45Speaker 4: An older guy who doesn't move as well as he
- 8:49Speaker 4: once did. Not that Cousins was ever a tremendously mobile guy,
- 8:54Speaker 4: but now I think he's 38 now. He obviously doesn't
- 8:58Speaker 4: move that well I have visions of maybe trying to
- 9:02Speaker 4: heat him up.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Yeah, was Spaggs trying to do that last week? I mean,
- 9:05Speaker 3: that's kind of Spaggs' thing, too.
- 9:07Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 9:08Speaker 5: A little bit, but I'd say they probably played more
- 9:10Speaker 5: coverage than they usually do. I think that the biggest thing,
- 9:13Speaker 5: just looking at the splits, is he has a tough
- 9:15Speaker 5: time with split safety coverages because... With split safety coverages,
- 9:19Speaker 5: you're taking away the underneath stuff.
- 9:22Speaker 2: You're taking away the flats. You're taking away the slants.
- 9:24Speaker 5: You're taking away stuff like that, and you're forcing the
- 9:27Speaker 5: quarterback to push the ball down the field, whether it's
- 9:29Speaker 5: outside the numbers or through the deep middle of the field.
- 9:33Speaker 5: I just think at this stage of his career, I
- 9:35Speaker 5: don't think Kirk Cousins is dotting guys through the middle
- 9:38Speaker 5: of the field like that consistently. So when Spags last week,
- 9:42Speaker 5: when they kind of started to slow that offense down
- 9:44Speaker 5: a little bit, they started to go to a lot
- 9:45Speaker 5: more split safety shell and Two man because he doesn't
- 9:48Speaker 5: run so you can play a lot of cover two
- 9:51Speaker 5: and things like that. So I look at the splits
- 9:54Speaker 5: and it's like when you play single high against him,
- 9:56Speaker 5: he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league. And
- 9:58Speaker 5: when you play split safety, he's one of the worst.
- 10:00Speaker 5: So these are all the sort of trends that once
- 10:02Speaker 5: we four or five weeks into the season, that teams
- 10:05Speaker 5: are going to start to pick up on when they're
- 10:07Speaker 5: defending the Raiders.
- 10:08Speaker 7: They also lead the league with nine takeaways, but I'm
- 10:10Speaker 7: kind of an Evan, especially, I don't know how much
- 10:12Speaker 7: of that side of street you are, but like They've
- 10:15Speaker 7: got a rookie I blank on his name.
- 10:16Speaker 3: He's got three interceptions already. But I felt like they
- 10:17Speaker 3: were just throwing it to him. Hezekiah Moses?
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I liked him coming out.
- 10:22Speaker 3: It's one of those ones where he's just in the right.
- 10:25Speaker 7: It's Paul's thing where he's just received all the turnovers
- 10:27Speaker 7: just kind of thrown to him. It wasn't like he's making.
- 10:30Speaker 7: So I think that's a little bit circumstantial. But I
- 10:33Speaker 7: do think it's something to be wary of with the
- 10:35Speaker 7: way the Patriots have turned the ball over.
- 10:36Speaker 4: And that would be my concern. The Patriots have been
- 10:38Speaker 4: a little sloppy with the ball. And, you know, sometimes
- 10:41Speaker 4: those things are, you know. You just have one of
- 10:43Speaker 4: those years where the ball just comes to you.
- 10:44Speaker 2: You need six games before the data set really becomes valuable.
- 10:47Speaker 4: But I'm just saying, like, sometimes, like, maybe the Raiders
- 10:50Speaker 4: defense isn't great. You know, because I don't think the
- 10:53Speaker 4: Raiders defense is great.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I mean, they've struggled to stop. Statistically, they've been really good.
- 10:57Speaker 4: But they take the ball away. And sometimes that just
- 10:59Speaker 4: the momentum of that.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Carries over week to week.
- 11:02Speaker 4: They just, the ball finds you, you know, and the
- 11:05Speaker 4: Patriots have been a little loose with the ball.
- 11:06Speaker 3: So that would be one concern for me.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I would say, uh, force fumbles. They forced five fumbles, uh,
- 11:12Speaker 2: That's how they beat the Chargers.
- 11:14Speaker 5: That's also how they heated up Tyler Shuck and got
- 11:18Speaker 5: him to fumble a couple times, too. And they had
- 11:20Speaker 5: one that actually there was a penalty that wiped out
- 11:23Speaker 5: another one.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So they could have had three of them.
- 11:26Speaker 4: I believe the Saints turned it over on four consecutive
- 11:28Speaker 4: possessions in that game.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I may or may not have been paying attention to
- 11:31Speaker 3: that one, Mike. Is that a red zone?
- 11:33Speaker 5: They come after them, and they run a lot of
- 11:36Speaker 5: cover zero. Deuce and I were talking about this yesterday.
- 11:38Speaker 5: They're the only team in the league that have over 10%
- 11:41Speaker 5: cover zero rate, so they're sending all-out pressure. Now, last
- 11:45Speaker 5: week against Mahomes, Mahomes started rolling out. He would see
- 11:48Speaker 5: the pressure, and he would start buying time by rolling
- 11:51Speaker 5: out or drifting back in the pocket, and he hit
- 11:53Speaker 5: three bombs against them, you know, because they're playing with
- 11:56Speaker 5: single coverage in the back end. So one of them,
- 11:59Speaker 5: poor Taekwon, broke.
- 12:00Speaker 3: His leg on.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Oh, my God. That was terrible.
- 12:03Speaker 3: But, yeah, so.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I couldn't believe he popped up. Like, and it was
- 12:08Speaker 3: funny because he didn't know.
- 12:09Speaker 6: Right.
- 12:09Speaker 7: He didn't know. And like watching the highlights. And then
- 12:12Speaker 7: I still just, and they showed him like, make the catch.
- 12:14Speaker 7: It kind of popped up. Like, wait, I thought he
- 12:15Speaker 7: got hurt on that play. Like, cause I didn't see
- 12:17Speaker 7: the actual play, but then yeah, just the adrenaline.
- 12:19Speaker 3: He got up and he started to point the first down.
- 12:21Speaker 3: And then he looked at his ankles on the side.
- 12:22Speaker 3: That hurts. Poor guy. I mean, he just can't catch
- 12:24Speaker 3: a break.
- 12:25Speaker 2: He's having the game of his life.
- 12:26Speaker 5: But those cover zeros maybe got a little bit exposed
- 12:30Speaker 5: last week by the Chiefs. So I think maybe they
- 12:32Speaker 5: turned that down. But over 10% of all-out pressure is really,
- 12:36Speaker 5: really high. They're setting the house pretty consistently. And especially
- 12:42Speaker 5: in the red zone, I would say they say, well,
- 12:44Speaker 5: we're not going to need a deep safety anyway.
- 12:45Speaker 2: So the fact that they are doing that, does that
- 12:48Speaker 2: say that they're not getting the pressure that they want?
- 12:51Speaker 2: just rushing four or three. I would say outside of Crosby.
- 12:55Speaker 7: Adam Butler's still kicking too. I mean, he's okay inside.
- 12:58Speaker 7: He's always been okay. Yeah, I mean, in terms of
- 13:02Speaker 7: the numbers, it's not great with their front four, but
- 13:05Speaker 7: they're very effective with the blitzes. I mean, that's when
- 13:07Speaker 7: they're like the number one team in the league with
- 13:09Speaker 7: pressure when they blitz. They don't do it very often,
- 13:11Speaker 7: but when they do, they tend to you know, get
- 13:13Speaker 7: to the quarterback.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Is Max Crosby still a problem? Oh yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 5: I think Max Crosby right now is on the short
- 13:18Speaker 5: list for defensive player of the year. If the Raiders
- 13:20Speaker 5: keep playing the way that they're playing. So he's, he's awesome.
- 13:24Speaker 5: You know, he rushes over the right tackle exclusively. So
- 13:27Speaker 5: Morgan Moses is problem. Uh, but when, when you really
- 13:30Speaker 5: think about it, like, you know, I think the biggest
- 13:32Speaker 5: part about Crosby is that he, he not only is
- 13:35Speaker 5: good against the past, but he's also really good in
- 13:37Speaker 5: against the run.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So he's just an instinctive player.
- 13:40Speaker 5: In both phases where a lot of these rushers, like
- 13:42Speaker 5: they're really good pass rushers, but they're maybe not as
- 13:44Speaker 5: interested in stopping the run. Um, He'll blow up run plays, too.
- 13:47Speaker 5: So you've got to be worried about him all the time.
- 13:49Speaker 5: But they've used Quay Walker a little bit as a
- 13:53Speaker 5: rush linebacker on the line of scrimmage to try to
- 13:55Speaker 5: juice the pass rush up a little bit. But I
- 13:58Speaker 5: think they are one of those teams kind of similar
- 14:00Speaker 5: to the Patriots that is blitzing a lot of the time.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Who's their D coordinator?
- 14:05Speaker 5: Rob Leonard is their defensive coordinator. And he actually was
- 14:08Speaker 5: hired by Josh McDaniels in Vegas under Patrick Graham, and
- 14:11Speaker 5: he survived four head coaches.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Vegas.
- 14:14Speaker 5: McDaniels, Pierce, Carroll, and now the defensive coordinator for Clint Kubiak.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Does that ever happen?
- 14:21Speaker 7: A new coach comes in and they take the defensive
- 14:23Speaker 7: line coach from the old team and be like, you're
- 14:25Speaker 7: our guy?
- 14:26Speaker 5: It's interesting and he doesn't really have, I can't really
- 14:29Speaker 5: find a tie to Seattle, I guess maybe Baltimore.
- 14:34Speaker 2: He was on John Harbaugh's staff for a little.
- 14:36Speaker 5: Bit, but they run a lot of their base structure
- 14:40Speaker 5: stuff is a lot of the Seattle stuff.
- 14:42Speaker 2: It's a lot of uh, you know, cover three, cover
- 14:45Speaker 2: six quarters, two high shells, uh, that sort of thing.
- 14:48Speaker 2: So I don't know if that's Kubiak just like saying,
- 14:51Speaker 2: this is what we're going to do, uh, or what, uh,
- 14:54Speaker 2: or maybe Leonard has like more of a connection to
- 14:56Speaker 2: that McDonald's system than I know.
- 14:58Speaker 5: But, uh, they, they look on both sides of the ball.
- 15:01Speaker 5: It looks, they look a lot like Seattle schematically. So they're,
- 15:04Speaker 5: they're trying to do a lot of the same thing.
- 15:06Speaker 3: It's kind of fun.
- 15:06Speaker 7: I mean, that to me is, is, is an appealing
- 15:08Speaker 7: matchup to, you know, see Drake got a little confidence
- 15:10Speaker 7: going and now, there's very high likelihood that Kubiak's going
- 15:15Speaker 7: to throw some of the stuff that's given him problems,
- 15:16Speaker 7: especially in the Super Bowl.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Adam, again, he's here at home, though. And I mean, also,
- 15:20Speaker 3: like Devin's point, like, the Raiders, it is what it is.
- 15:22Speaker 7: Their start, they're kind of, you know, I would say
- 15:24Speaker 7: generally above the Patriots in, like, the rankings of all
- 15:27Speaker 7: that stuff. And, you know, for the Patriots, it's a
- 15:29Speaker 7: chance to, you know, beat another pretty solid team and
- 15:31Speaker 7: continue to build some momentum.
- 15:33Speaker 3: It's not you know, lambs to the slaughter this week, and, oh,
- 15:35Speaker 3: they better win this one. They can't lose it.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Like, this is a pretty good team. I think this
- 15:38Speaker 4: is a better win this one.
- 15:40Speaker 3: They can't.
- 15:41Speaker 4: After you go to Buffalo and win that game, you
- 15:43Speaker 4: can't give it back. You can't give it back.
- 15:45Speaker 2: That's my biggest concern. I can't have a letdown because
- 15:47Speaker 2: we used to make fun of other teams.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yep.
- 15:49Speaker 4: They just won their Super Bowl last week. I couldn't
- 15:51Speaker 4: agree with you more, Fred. That would be the mentality.
- 15:54Speaker 5: That's my biggest concern is not so much about what
- 15:56Speaker 5: the Raiders are doing.
- 15:57Speaker 2: It's more so.
- 15:58Speaker 5: The letdown of– big divisional win on the road backs
- 16:01Speaker 5: against the wall.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Now you're coming home. It's the Raiders. It's not really
- 16:05Speaker 2: a great team on paper. And you kind of let go.
- 16:07Speaker 4: And I'm not suggesting them like the crappy team.
- 16:10Speaker 3: They're not, they're not, they're not the Titans.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Okay. They might be playing with a backup quarterback, but,
- 16:16Speaker 2: but they're not the bills either.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:18Speaker 4: And this is a team. I'm sorry at home. This
- 16:21Speaker 4: is a non-playoff team. They're not going to be in
- 16:23Speaker 4: the play. I don't think they're going.
- 16:24Speaker 3: To be in the playoffs at the end of the year.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 16:27Speaker 4: This is a game at home that you need to
- 16:28Speaker 4: win coming off that win. And I would say the
- 16:31Speaker 4: same about the following game against the Jets. Again, you know,
- 16:35Speaker 4: Evan and I have sort of been bickering a little
- 16:37Speaker 4: bit about the Jets. Not real bickering, just kind of
- 16:39Speaker 4: sports bickering. You know, that I do think it's very
- 16:42Speaker 4: similar to what the Raiders did. You know, you brought
- 16:45Speaker 4: up Quay Walker, N'Kobi Deans, another guy. Those are good,
- 16:49Speaker 4: just good NFL players, not stars. Quiddie Paye, who I
- 16:53Speaker 4: think got banged up, right?
- 16:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 4: But those guys help young teams that are trying to
- 16:58Speaker 4: learn how to win. Not that they're stars, but they're
- 17:00Speaker 4: NFL players.
- 17:01Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 17:01Speaker 4: And the Jets did a very similar thing with guys
- 17:03Speaker 4: like Demario David.
- 17:04Speaker 3: You know, just... They're not good like teams.
- 17:09Speaker 2: They bring instability.
- 17:10Speaker 3: The phrase that you used, raise the floor.
- 17:12Speaker 2: That's exactly what the Patriots did last year.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Do you remember the game that the Patriots played against
- 17:17Speaker 4: the Jets late last year at the Meadowlands? It was
- 17:21Speaker 4: against a JV team. There were literally 30 players who
- 17:24Speaker 4: were not NFL players playing for the Jets that day.
- 17:26Speaker 4: That's not what you're going to see the next two weeks.
- 17:28Speaker 4: There'll be regular games that you should win because the
- 17:32Speaker 4: other team isn't good enough. I don't think, to beat
- 17:35Speaker 4: the Patriots if the Patriots are focused. And that's why
- 17:38Speaker 4: I say, I'm not telling you that they can't lose
- 17:40Speaker 4: this game.
- 17:40Speaker 3: They can.
- 17:41Speaker 4: You want to get Max Crosby to have a strip
- 17:43Speaker 4: sack and give him seven points? That's how you can
- 17:46Speaker 4: lose the game. They have individual players. This is not
- 17:51Speaker 4: the Titans. This is not last year. It's not New Orleans, Tennessee, Cleveland,
- 17:56Speaker 4: back to back to back. This is a regular NFL team.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Middle of the pack team. But you should win at home.
- 18:03Speaker 2: The Patriots aren't this truck yet either. So we're still
- 18:07Speaker 2: trying to figure out who this team is. And so, yeah,
- 18:10Speaker 2: you have to... treat every game as losable, which I
- 18:14Speaker 2: think they are.
- 18:15Speaker 7: I know a different team, but you lost to.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Them last year.
- 18:18Speaker 2: And you also have to talk about injuries. And so
- 18:21Speaker 2: let's turn to that right now.
- 18:22Speaker 3: We're going to find out more about that later today.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so we'll get our first participation report after this
- 18:28Speaker 2: Wednesday practice. But any more news? I mean, the fact
- 18:33Speaker 2: that they tried out a running.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Back, And a well-known running back. Jamal Williams is not
- 18:40Speaker 5: a nobody running back.
- 18:42Speaker 2: We saw Ramondre limp off a little bit during the game.
- 18:47Speaker 2: He seemed okay after the game, but I don't know.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Maybe Gilliam got banged up. I don't know. You always
- 18:54Speaker 2: look at what they're doing, not what they're saying. Out
- 18:58Speaker 2: of the blue, you're having an audition for a running back.
- 19:01Speaker 7: I would just say, and no offense to Corey Kiner,
- 19:03Speaker 7: but I think there's still a running back short that
- 19:05Speaker 7: you feel great about.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Not that Williams is going to be that guy.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Does Williams return kicks? I don't think he does.
- 19:12Speaker 5: I mean, like, he's definitely more of, like, a remandre, like,
- 19:14Speaker 5: you know, bruising, downhill kind of runner.
- 19:17Speaker 2: So, maybe. I mean, you know, who knows. I just...
- 19:20Speaker 2: Because I think if there's one thing on special teams
- 19:23Speaker 2: that I could nitpick, I don't think our return game
- 19:25Speaker 2: has been that great.
- 19:26Speaker 5: Kyle Williams had a couple that have been okay. I...
- 19:31Speaker 5: If it's not injury related with Ramondre, I am starting
- 19:34Speaker 5: to wonder about Travion Henderson and how reliable they think
- 19:38Speaker 5: he is right now. I mean, he had the one
- 19:40Speaker 5: big run against Pittsburgh and the rest of it has
- 19:43Speaker 5: been kind of so-so. And, you know, you talk about kickoffs. Well,
- 19:47Speaker 5: they haven't wanted to use Travion Henderson on kickoffs because
- 19:50Speaker 5: of injury risks, because he is the top backup to
- 19:52Speaker 5: Ramondre Stevenson. So if you bring in another running back,
- 19:55Speaker 5: like Jamal Williams, who you believe in and think can,
- 19:58Speaker 5: can play a little bit, like, does that allow you
- 20:00Speaker 5: to just use Travion Henderson on more gadget plays on
- 20:03Speaker 5: kickoff return, like on some of these other situations to.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Try to get him.
- 20:07Speaker 5: It's a good, you know, take, But I think it's probably, unfortunately,
- 20:12Speaker 5: more injury-related to Armandre. But that's just the way I
- 20:15Speaker 5: look at it. They need to find ways to get
- 20:18Speaker 5: Travion Henderson the ball in space. And that's his game.
- 20:22Speaker 5: And his game is not going to be, I'm going
- 20:24Speaker 5: to line up in the dot and take the handoff
- 20:25Speaker 5: and run it up the gut and find the lane
- 20:28Speaker 5: and have great vision and jump cuts. That's just not
- 20:31Speaker 5: going to be his strength.
- 20:33Speaker 2: But like I said yesterday, I did see some things
- 20:36Speaker 2: from Henderson today that really encouraged me last game. And
- 20:39Speaker 2: I'm excited to see if he brings that again this week. Yeah.
- 20:43Speaker 7: I'd also just say a good sign that, you know,
- 20:45Speaker 7: Matt Collins didn't end up on IR. There wasn't, you know,
- 20:47Speaker 7: a receiver coming in. We'll see today when we go
- 20:50Speaker 7: out to practice exactly who's out there. But usually those
- 20:53Speaker 7: are the things when that like Monday report after he
- 20:55Speaker 7: goes to the doctor.
- 20:56Speaker 3: And then all of a sudden rap sheet or whoever
- 20:58Speaker 3: is tweeting out.
- 20:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I mean, Matt Collins, you know, Yesterday, or Monday, said,
- 21:03Speaker 2: you know, we won't have him for a few days.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Is that what he said about Hollins?
- 21:07Speaker 4: Yeah, he started by saying he won't practice for the
- 21:09Speaker 4: next couple of days, which kind of led me to
- 21:10Speaker 4: believe they don't think it's overly.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Serious, not long-term. It's on a tour in Achilles, probably.
- 21:16Speaker 4: But then shortly thereafter, he's asked about the possibility of
- 21:19Speaker 4: bringing someone in, and I don't think it was just
- 21:22Speaker 4: coach speak, like, oh, we're always looking to upgrade our team.
- 21:25Speaker 4: He said, no, that's something we're going to explore shortly.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Yeah. So... I found his answer about Matt Collins very interesting.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Explain that, because I agree.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Last Monday, he said that Drake May's shoulder was fine
- 21:39Speaker 5: in the Monday press conference, and I think his shoulder
- 21:43Speaker 5: is fine, but his shoulder wasn't 100%, and then Drake
- 21:49Speaker 5: May did get treatment after the press conference or something,
- 21:51Speaker 5: and then it ends up.
- 21:53Speaker 2: On the injury report. I think that whole thing.
- 21:56Speaker 5: With Matt Collins, he was very quick to say, I
- 21:59Speaker 5: don't really know yet. I don't have information on it.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Talk about Drake. They put him on the injury report
- 22:08Speaker 2: because it had already kind of got out there that
- 22:13Speaker 2: maybe there was something, and I think just so that
- 22:16Speaker 2: there is no question, let's put him on there so
- 22:20Speaker 2: no one can accuse us of trying to circumvent the
- 22:25Speaker 2: injury rules. But this is my point.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Like, Drake May comes out after the game on Sunday
- 22:29Speaker 5: in Jacksonville, and, like, it's kind of a little wishy-washy
- 22:33Speaker 5: about his shoulder. Then Mike Vrabel says the next day
- 22:36Speaker 5: that he's not aware of anything with his shoulder.
- 22:38Speaker 2: But that's why, you know, just so no one can
- 22:41Speaker 2: accuse us of anything, put him on the report. Right,
- 22:44Speaker 2: but instead of coming out and saying, we think Matt
- 22:47Speaker 2: Collins is fine, this week he was a little bit
- 22:50Speaker 2: more evasive. Because he doesn't know. So don't say anything.
- 22:54Speaker 2: This is my point. Yeah. Well, but listen, when Belichick
- 22:59Speaker 2: was here, I always kind of defended him in the
- 23:01Speaker 2: way he treated injuries. You can't win getting specific about injuries.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Everybody's different. You don't know how they're going to wake
- 23:09Speaker 2: up tomorrow. If you start giving timelines, you don't know
- 23:14Speaker 2: how his recovery. But who's lost by doing that? No,
- 23:16Speaker 2: but if you stay consistent and just give the bare minimum,
- 23:20Speaker 2: you can never get yourself in trouble. And I think
- 23:24Speaker 2: that's exactly what happened. Yourself or the player. So just
- 23:27Speaker 2: give the minimum. So I kind of defended Belichick in
- 23:30Speaker 2: the way he handled talking about injuries. I just think
- 23:34Speaker 2: that's exactly what happened.
- 23:35Speaker 5: I think last week the Drake May shoulder thing got
- 23:37Speaker 5: a little wishy-washy. And then I think this week with
- 23:40Speaker 5: Matt Collins, he was a little bit more guarded about
- 23:43Speaker 5: the information he was giving out.
- 23:44Speaker 2: And I think that that, I'm not saying it's a
- 23:46Speaker 2: bad thing.
- 23:46Speaker 4: I think they're still trying to get information on Matt Collins.
- 23:49Speaker 4: I really don't think he knows.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 4: I think they were still doing tests on whatever the
- 23:55Speaker 4: issue is. I mean, I know they said calf, but
- 23:57Speaker 4: we all know, like in Evans. You know, side hustle
- 24:01Speaker 4: is the NBA, and how many times do.
- 24:03Speaker 2: You see a calf? We go in speed bridge?
- 24:04Speaker 4: No, but how many times do you see someone say
- 24:07Speaker 4: a calf strain, and then it turns out to be
- 24:10Speaker 4: much more serious than that?
- 24:12Speaker 2: Or, unfortunately, the calf strain is a precursor to Achilles.
- 24:16Speaker 4: That's what I'm talking about.
- 24:17Speaker 5: So, like, if you play on a strained calf and
- 24:19Speaker 5: it's not 100%, then usually that's when the Achilles stuff goes.
- 24:22Speaker 2: The same thing happened to me. And probably you, Paul, right?
- 24:24Speaker 2: Did you have calf problems before you were killed?
- 24:26Speaker 9: No, I just blew it out.
- 24:27Speaker 2: You just blew it out. So that's why you see
- 24:29Speaker 2: a lot of NBA players.
- 24:29Speaker 4: No warning signs.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Too much Diet Pepsi. You put it under a lot
- 24:32Speaker 3: of pressure with, you know.
- 24:33Speaker 2: They shut it down, a lot of these guys.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Now, whenever there's any sort of scare with a calf,
- 24:38Speaker 5: they shut them down.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Because that.
- 24:39Speaker 4: And I'm hoping that's what this is.
- 24:41Speaker 2: They don't want to risk the Achilles going. Right.
- 24:44Speaker 4: So I hate injuries. I don't like to see guys
- 24:46Speaker 4: have to miss, especially serious injuries like Achilles that's going
- 24:49Speaker 4: to wipe a guy out for the rest of the season.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Like I.
- 24:53Speaker 4: That's the one thing about the league that, you know,
- 24:56Speaker 4: just stinks.
- 24:56Speaker 3: It's unfortunate.
- 24:57Speaker 4: I mean, look at all these guys around the league.
- 25:00Speaker 4: You know, every game that you're looking, oh, he's out,
- 25:02Speaker 4: he's out, he's out. Like, you know, the Eagles, you know,
- 25:06Speaker 4: their offense is a mess. Well, you know, they're without
- 25:09Speaker 4: Devontae Smith, Dallas Goddard. You know, Lane Johnson obviously had
- 25:13Speaker 4: his personal issue, just decided to retire. Saquon Barkley leaves
- 25:16Speaker 4: the game in the first. Like, there's not a lot
- 25:19Speaker 4: of teams that can take, like, their five best offensive
- 25:21Speaker 4: players and four of them are out. And everything is great.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Everything looks the same, you know.
- 25:27Speaker 2: And you just never know. It's just hard.
- 25:29Speaker 3: You just never know.
- 25:29Speaker 7: You have a year like last year with the Patriots
- 25:31Speaker 7: where they were remarkably healthy. I mean, had to overcome
- 25:34Speaker 7: a couple little bumps in the road, but generally it
- 25:35Speaker 7: wasn't what it is this year where it's, what, like
- 25:37Speaker 7: six guys or five guys on IR in the first
- 25:40Speaker 7: four games. I mean, it's, and then you spent all
- 25:43Speaker 7: summer talking about predictions and, you know, and it's like, well,
- 25:45Speaker 7: you didn't realize that half the team.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Was going to be out for that game when you
- 25:48Speaker 3: were making your predictions.
- 25:49Speaker 4: And it's like that every, every team around the league,
- 25:52Speaker 4: you know, the Rams are really good in, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 4: even they are going to be affected by missing a
- 25:58Speaker 4: guy like Puka Nakua.
- 25:59Speaker 2: And, you know, McCaffrey, oh, he's on the 49ers.
- 26:03Speaker 3: The Niners are a great example.
- 26:05Speaker 2: They have a lot of people.
- 26:05Speaker 4: They have a million guys out, and they're still 4-0. So, like,
- 26:10Speaker 4: you can still win games, but it's just challenging.
- 26:13Speaker 2: The 49ers have science against them, so they need to
- 26:15Speaker 2: figure that out.
- 26:16Speaker 6: Right.
- 26:18Speaker 7: We're lucky that our content department no one tore anything
- 26:20Speaker 7: while we were out there.
- 26:21Speaker 2: I was worried about it. We walked right by it,
- 26:24Speaker 2: and I was like, whoa, please stay away from me.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Don't try to cut.
- 26:27Speaker 4: It's like a scene out of Stranger Things.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Evan had tinfoil on his head. How's our O-line health-wise?
- 26:34Speaker 7: Well, see, I thought it was interesting. Vrabel said it's
- 26:36Speaker 7: still kind of open at right guard. He didn't commit
- 26:39Speaker 7: to Ben Brown back there. Evan and I were talking,
- 26:41Speaker 7: and I think Ben Brown was okay.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I've always.
- 26:43Speaker 7: kind of like Ben Brown. I just like his size.
- 26:46Speaker 7: I like him at center. I don't love him. Back
- 26:48Speaker 7: up O-line. Beggars can't be choosers. For a backup interior guy,
- 26:55Speaker 7: he was the least of their problems. That's all you
- 26:58Speaker 7: can hope for. I thought he got pushed around a
- 26:59Speaker 7: little bit. How big of a question is it right
- 27:02Speaker 7: now of is Morgan Moses injured? Is Morgan Moses slowing down?
- 27:06Speaker 7: Is Morgan Moses a combination of the two? And Are
- 27:09Speaker 7: we going to be able to get Morgan Moses through this.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Season, or is Caleb Lomo going to be the right
- 27:14Speaker 3: tackle sooner than later?
- 27:15Speaker 5: I thought that he played fine in Buffalo now. They
- 27:19Speaker 5: helped him a little bit with Rousseau, but I would
- 27:21Speaker 5: expect him to help anybody with Rousseau. I don't think
- 27:23Speaker 5: that that was a Morgan Moses thing. I know that
- 27:25Speaker 5: Deion Walker rep is rough. He gets blown up in
- 27:28Speaker 5: the backfield.
- 27:28Speaker 2: He's doing that to a lot of guys. Yeah, that
- 27:30Speaker 2: was a tough one. I think I only had him
- 27:32Speaker 2: with one or two pressures allowed in pass protection.
- 27:34Speaker 3: I just feel like he's not moving great.
- 27:36Speaker 7: When I watch him move, I'm like, this is tight
- 27:38Speaker 7: to me. This isn't a pop out of your stance.
- 27:41Speaker 7: This is an older guy kind of slowing down.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Granted, low mood.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Six offensive linemen, jumbo tackle. Like that's not, you know,
- 27:49Speaker 5: he's probably never done that before. So I'll give him
- 27:51Speaker 5: some grace to adjust to it. Like he had a,
- 27:54Speaker 5: a rough go of it lining up at fullback in
- 27:56Speaker 5: the backfield on one of those third and shorts. And,
- 27:59Speaker 5: but like, that's probably not something that he's used to
- 28:01Speaker 5: doing regularly. But when I watch Lomu right now.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I still feel like he's a ways away from being
- 28:06Speaker 2: like starting caliber.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I mean, it's the cousin's point.
- 28:08Speaker 7: It's nice when you can ease your first round pick
- 28:11Speaker 7: in and give, you know, give him a little bit
- 28:12Speaker 7: of landing or I guess takeoff space to, get things going,
- 28:16Speaker 7: but I don't know how much longer he's going to have.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Okay. All right. 855-PATS-500 is the hotline. Podcasts at Patriots.com
- 28:25Speaker 2: is the email address. Lots of emails coming in. Matt
- 28:32Speaker 2: writes in. He's from Wichita. There are two areas that
- 28:35Speaker 2: scare me most when it comes to the Raiders. They
- 28:38Speaker 2: have heavily featured tight ends this season. Last week they
- 28:41Speaker 2: had 14 receptions for 168 yards. and a touchdown on
- 28:45Speaker 2: 21 targets, the Patriots, I believe, are the best statistically
- 28:51Speaker 2: in the league when it comes to defending the tight end.
- 28:53Speaker 2: I think that is more a product of who they
- 28:55Speaker 2: played against with the exception of last week. But I'm
- 28:57Speaker 2: a little concerned to see how that shakes out. I'm
- 29:00Speaker 2: also concerned about Crosby coming off the edge against Morgan Moses.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I think wherever Crosby is, they're going to have to
- 29:08Speaker 2: send help or he could be a problem. I noticed
- 29:10Speaker 2: more Lomu last week as a 6-0 lineman. We just
- 29:13Speaker 2: talked about that. Might be a trend that continues to
- 29:16Speaker 2: help out. I think they are going to keep some
- 29:18Speaker 2: extra into block nearly every play. They might as well
- 29:22Speaker 2: not disguise it and just put Lomu over there to
- 29:24Speaker 2: help with Crosby. Yeah, I would say they've played a
- 29:27Speaker 2: lot of really good tight ends. Like A.J.
- 29:30Speaker 5: Barner in Seattle, the Steelers tight ends, Brenton Strange in Jacksonville,
- 29:34Speaker 5: Kincaid last week in Knox. I think those are some
- 29:37Speaker 5: of the best tight ends in football now that you've
- 29:39Speaker 5: got probably, I think, the best tight end in football
- 29:42Speaker 5: in Bowers. So I think they've played a lot of
- 29:44Speaker 5: really good tight ends. They've done a nice job for
- 29:46Speaker 5: the most part. You know, Barner got him a couple
- 29:48Speaker 5: of times in the opener, but they've done an okay
- 29:51Speaker 5: job on it. I think the difference between the, you know,
- 29:54Speaker 5: like with the Raiders is that like Bowers is a receiver.
- 29:56Speaker 5: Like Bowers is not, he's only run 11 routes as
- 30:00Speaker 5: an inline tight end. So he's not really like running fast.
- 30:02Speaker 5: routes with out of you know a three-point stance with
- 30:04Speaker 5: his hand in the dirt that's really Michael Mayer like
- 30:07Speaker 5: Michael Mayer is really their inline tight end so they
- 30:09Speaker 5: play a lot of two tight end packages where Bowers
- 30:12Speaker 5: even though he has te next to his name like
- 30:15Speaker 5: I would kind of say is more of a wide
- 30:16Speaker 5: receiver in a lot of those situations so it's it's
- 30:20Speaker 5: it's 12 it's too tight end but you know Bowers
- 30:23Speaker 5: is kind of like his own thing and that's not
- 30:25Speaker 5: like a knock like he's unbelievable but it's just he's
- 30:27Speaker 5: more of a receiver and that's how I would kind
- 30:30Speaker 5: of figure that they'll they'll play him and cover him.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Eddie in LA writes, in week one versus Miami was
- 30:36Speaker 2: the Raiders' most successful game running the ball, aside from
- 30:39Speaker 2: that they haven't really been a team that scares you
- 30:41Speaker 2: with the run game. So is stopping the Raiders' offense
- 30:44Speaker 2: just making sure that the run game doesn't get going
- 30:46Speaker 2: and making sure Bowers doesn't open up the rest of
- 30:48Speaker 2: the pass game? Would Carlton Davis make sense in man
- 30:51Speaker 2: coverage versus Bowers? I don't see anything else scary with
- 30:55Speaker 2: this offense. Also, Sam Laporta says, is reported to be
- 30:58Speaker 2: a free agent this offseason, reports that he stopped negotiating
- 31:01Speaker 2: with the Lions. Would a trade for him be out
- 31:03Speaker 2: of the question?
- 31:06Speaker 4: I mean, I don't say anything's out of the question,
- 31:08Speaker 4: but I would wait. I mean, why is Detroit doing that?
- 31:10Speaker 2: It's a pretty significant trade.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, and I'm not saying that they won't
- 31:14Speaker 4: because there's a long time between now and the trade deadline.
- 31:18Speaker 4: Detroit's defense is a mess, and if they can't win games...
- 31:23Speaker 4: you know, they're 2-2, so they haven't pulled the plug
- 31:26Speaker 4: on the season at 2-2. They expect to be a
- 31:28Speaker 4: playoff team, but you lose four in a row, and
- 31:32Speaker 4: then you're 2-6, maybe things change.
- 31:35Speaker 2: That's what happens when you pick the wrong coach on
- 31:39Speaker 2: your staff.
- 31:40Speaker 4: So I also think that they've been victimized by a
- 31:43Speaker 4: lot of really bad luck defensively with, you know, we
- 31:48Speaker 4: talk about injuries, like, I know that some of the
- 31:52Speaker 4: guys that have been missing, like, like Terry and Arnold's
- 31:54Speaker 4: situation off field, they had to get rid of him.
- 31:56Speaker 4: He wasn't playing great anyway, but he'd be better than
- 32:00Speaker 4: like DJ Reed at this stage of his career. DJ
- 32:02Speaker 4: Reed wasn't a bad player, but I think he's a
- 32:04Speaker 4: little bit, you know, what do you say?
- 32:06Speaker 3: Washed it.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Uh, Brian branch is still hurt.
- 32:08Speaker 4: Brian branch hasn't come back yet from a torn Achilles.
- 32:12Speaker 4: So they, they tend to lose a bunch of guys
- 32:15Speaker 4: up front. They haven't done that yet. Um, I think
- 32:19Speaker 4: some of that is, you know, circumstantial with how bad
- 32:21Speaker 4: they've been defensively. But I don't know if you guys
- 32:25Speaker 4: watch any of the games Sunday night. That's some of
- 32:27Speaker 4: the worst defensive tape that you'll ever see. Like Carolina
- 32:31Speaker 4: did absolutely anything it wanted to against that defense.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I mean, Ted McMillan was like, oh, I was, yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 3: 14 catches, I think.
- 32:40Speaker 4: He didn't have that many, maybe 14 and 16 targets,
- 32:43Speaker 4: something like that. It wasn't like they threw the ball
- 32:46Speaker 4: to him 30 times.
- 32:46Speaker 2: He had his way with them.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Chuba.
- 32:48Speaker 3: 200 yards.
- 32:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Mike Washington, their second running back, he's
- 32:53Speaker 3: got some speed. He's fast.
- 32:55Speaker 7: I'd be more concerned, though, Genting in the screen game.
- 32:57Speaker 7: You know, I think that's, as a receiver, he's been
- 32:59Speaker 7: more effective. I do think stopping the run is a
- 33:02Speaker 7: huge key, but... I think you've got a good base
- 33:04Speaker 7: if you're, again, like, if you're the Raiders, you're like, shit.
- 33:06Speaker 10: I'm sorry.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Shoot. He says that a lot.
- 33:09Speaker 4: Shoot.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:10Speaker 7: We just get an outside receiver, and, you know, we're
- 33:12Speaker 7: really starting, you know, they don't have anybody. Trey Tucker, fine, but,
- 33:15Speaker 7: you know, once they get an outside guy.
- 33:16Speaker 4: I'm a little surprised that, like. Jalen Naylor hasn't done
- 33:20Speaker 4: anything for them at all.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Yeah, he got banged up in the game, too. So
- 33:23Speaker 2: maybe that was part of it.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Or maybe it's been health-related.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Because he's another one of those guys that I would say, like,
- 33:28Speaker 4: he's not a star, but he's an NFL third, you know,
- 33:31Speaker 4: like a third receiver, NFL-type player that you would think
- 33:34Speaker 4: would be able to contribute. I think he's got, like,
- 33:36Speaker 4: five catches.
- 33:37Speaker 5: Yeah, especially if you consider Bowers is, like, you know,
- 33:41Speaker 5: what everybody's taking away.
- 33:43Speaker 4: But he also missed two games, Bowers, and that still
- 33:46Speaker 4: didn't really open anything up for anybody.
- 33:48Speaker 2: He's still, like, leading the league in receptions.
- 33:50Speaker 3: It's funny. I remember you. You were a big Mayer
- 33:53Speaker 3: fan when we were at the combine. Remember that?
- 33:55Speaker 2: I was a big Mayer fan, period.
- 33:57Speaker 5: I think that that's one of those guys I would
- 34:00Speaker 5: love to see here.
- 34:01Speaker 2: I think that he blocks well. I think he can
- 34:02Speaker 2: catch the football.
- 34:03Speaker 5: I think he's, you know, Bowers types of tight ends, like,
- 34:08Speaker 5: explosive player, heck of a football player, Kincaid, same thing. I,
- 34:11Speaker 5: you know, me, I want the guys that are going
- 34:13Speaker 5: to put their hand in the dirt and block some
- 34:15Speaker 5: people and, you know, be like kind of flexible in
- 34:19Speaker 5: that sense so that you're not predictable when those guys
- 34:21Speaker 5: are on the field and stuff like that. But, uh, the,
- 34:24Speaker 5: the Mike Washington gente thing is really interesting to me.
- 34:27Speaker 5: Like Mike Washington's definitely more, you know, they're a zone
- 34:30Speaker 5: running team Shanahan style, and he's much more of that,
- 34:33Speaker 5: like one cut runner with really good speed and, uh,
- 34:37Speaker 5: and like, you know, that's sort of his game.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Uh, gente doesn't look right to me.
- 34:40Speaker 5: Like he doesn't, I even like, he hasn't had great
- 34:43Speaker 5: blocking and I know there's stats that backed it up, but, uh, I,
- 34:46Speaker 5: I think that he's, you know, he looks, he just doesn't,
- 34:49Speaker 5: he looks a little stiff. Like he's not, you know,
- 34:52Speaker 5: very elusive. Like he tries to run you over, but
- 34:54Speaker 5: you can do that in college and you can break tackles,
- 34:56Speaker 5: you know, like that in college. But when you get
- 34:58Speaker 5: to the To the adults, it's a little bit harder
- 35:01Speaker 5: to do that consistently.
- 35:02Speaker 3: It's like another one of those muscle hamsters. Who was
- 35:04Speaker 3: that guy that they called the muscle hamster?
- 35:05Speaker 2: Doug Martin.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Doug Martin, you know.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Much bigger than Doug Martin.
- 35:09Speaker 3: But, you know.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 4: You're trying to substantiate your plea to draft him?
- 35:15Speaker 3: Is that what this is all about? I mean, if
- 35:16Speaker 3: you just had him, you'd be undefeated probably.
- 35:18Speaker 4: If you just listened to Mike, you know. Probably be
- 35:21Speaker 4: in the same spot you're in now, but I'm just saying.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Emailer writes in, and if this is your email, put
- 35:27Speaker 2: a name to your email next time.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Oh, he's pointing his finger to the claim. You're getting
- 35:31Speaker 3: finger wagged.
- 35:32Speaker 2: I don't need to know where you live. It's nice
- 35:34Speaker 2: to know that, but put a name to it. Anyway,
- 35:37Speaker 2: he says, I know that Wednesday is the day we
- 35:39Speaker 2: start looking forward to the next game, but I just
- 35:41Speaker 2: have to comment on the Bills. Everyone feels that the
- 35:44Speaker 2: Bills are this juggernaut of a football team, but look
- 35:46Speaker 2: at the facts. They face two teams that are 0-4
- 35:49Speaker 2: and two teams that are 2-2. The combined record of
- 35:52Speaker 2: their opponents is 4-12. I hope the sports writers are
- 35:55Speaker 2: taking note and skewering the Bills and Josh Allen for
- 35:59Speaker 2: their easy schedule, just like they did with the Patriots
- 36:01Speaker 2: last year. I'm tired of the national media treating our
- 36:05Speaker 2: team like the hatreds. Hear, hear. Defend the wall.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Who do you think is better? Miami or Houston?
- 36:16Speaker 2: Houston.
- 36:17Speaker 4: Who do you think is better, the Chargers or Houston?
- 36:22Speaker 2: Houston.
- 36:22Speaker 4: So not all 0-4s are the same.
- 36:24Speaker 3: That's all I would say.
- 36:27Speaker 4: Houston's lost like four games by a combined 10 points.
- 36:30Speaker 5: They still got to get their defense in order. I
- 36:33Speaker 5: don't know what's going on on that side of the ball.
- 36:34Speaker 5: I mean, Will Anderson's playing out of his mind, but
- 36:37Speaker 5: their secondary is getting.
- 36:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:40Speaker 4: And you know what else is really concerning about what's
- 36:42Speaker 4: going on in Houston? And it's looking like a lost
- 36:45Speaker 4: season for them. Stroud's played well. The whole referendum on
- 36:50Speaker 4: the season was, we're going to let it play out,
- 36:52Speaker 4: we're going to pick up the fifth-year option, but we're
- 36:54Speaker 4: not going to extend him, and we're going to use
- 36:55Speaker 4: this as a litmus test for how well he plays.
- 37:01Speaker 4: They've lost twice while scoring 30 points.
- 37:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Just a great example of.
- 37:06Speaker 7: I mean, two playoff teams last year, them and the Chargers, that,
- 37:09Speaker 7: you know, it's just not quite going right.
- 37:11Speaker 3: The Chargers I totally get. Like, again, they're wiped out
- 37:14Speaker 3: across the board.
- 37:16Speaker 4: You know, they're down to one offensive lineman again. Like,
- 37:18Speaker 4: it's amazing.
- 37:19Speaker 5: The Chargers annoy me more than the Bills. Like, the Bills,
- 37:22Speaker 5: I think, are a proven good football team year in
- 37:24Speaker 5: and year out. I'm so, like, the Chargers, come on.
- 37:26Speaker 3: I agree with you.
- 37:26Speaker 4: There was a lot of love for the Chargers based
- 37:28Speaker 4: on nothing.
- 37:29Speaker 5: They are a paper tiger every single year. And I'm like,
- 37:33Speaker 5: that's the team that bugs me.
- 37:34Speaker 4: I'm with Evan on that.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Like, yeah.
- 37:37Speaker 2: If I'm the owner there, I'm getting a little impatient.
- 37:40Speaker 4: But, like, Buffalo, like, for the last ten years, whatever,
- 37:43Speaker 4: let's call it the last eight years.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been nine years.
- 37:46Speaker 4: They've been pretty good. You know, they're not great. They're
- 37:48Speaker 4: not the best team in football, but they've been pretty good.
- 37:50Speaker 4: The Chargers, like, one year they make the playoffs, they
- 37:53Speaker 4: squeak in, they lose the first game. The next year
- 37:55Speaker 4: they don't make the playoffs. Then another year, like, maybe
- 37:58Speaker 4: they get it. Like, they haven't really done it. Since when?
- 38:03Speaker 4: When was the last time the Chargers were really good?
- 38:05Speaker 3: I mean, there was good hype for them.
- 38:06Speaker 7: Coming into that 2017 playoff game here. I remember that
- 38:10Speaker 7: like they hadn't lost in forever. Like that was the
- 38:12Speaker 7: last time I remember, you know, at least they made
- 38:14Speaker 7: the playoffs some hype. But that's the last time I
- 38:15Speaker 7: remember them getting some hype, you know.
- 38:19Speaker 5: I just feel like they, I hate to be like.
- 38:23Speaker 5: the old school guy here, but like, it's the line
- 38:25Speaker 5: of scrimmage.
- 38:26Speaker 2: They get, they get beat.
- 38:27Speaker 5: And I know that some of it's injury related, but like,
- 38:29Speaker 5: but they get beat up every single year.
- 38:32Speaker 2: On the line of scrimmage. They got a great quarterback.
- 38:34Speaker 2: They got skill players.
- 38:36Speaker 5: They got flashy defensive scheme, but then every single year they,
- 38:39Speaker 5: they can't block and they can't.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Stop the run. And it's like, how many more times a,
- 38:43Speaker 2: Are we going to take the cheese on the Chargers?
- 38:45Speaker 2: In Chargers defense, they do have to play Denver at
- 38:50Speaker 2: home twice in Denver. And when they're in L.A., it's
- 38:53Speaker 2: not even really a home field advantage. In Kansas City, twice.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I know.
- 38:58Speaker 3: They're without a home. It's just.
- 39:00Speaker 7: You know, it's hilarious for how great they are at
- 39:03Speaker 7: the socials and all that stuff.
- 39:04Speaker 3: And then, but they're on the team. It's, I mean, disaster.
- 39:07Speaker 4: I just think it's funny because a lot of people
- 39:09Speaker 4: heading into the season thought that the bill schedule was
- 39:11Speaker 4: set up, that they could be like one in five
- 39:15Speaker 4: because they were playing all these tough teams, Houston, Chargers, Lions, Patriots, right?
- 39:21Speaker 4: Like they could be like one in five coming out
- 39:23Speaker 4: of the gate. They're 3-1, and now we're just ripping
- 39:25Speaker 4: them because they lost.
- 39:26Speaker 3: To the Patriots.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Buffalo is in a bad way right now.
- 39:32Speaker 5: They're looking at some of their local media and radio
- 39:36Speaker 5: because they really didn't play very well against the Chargers.
- 39:38Speaker 2: They turned the ball over five times and won the game.
- 39:40Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 39:41Speaker 5: And so like this was kind of brewing underneath the hood,
- 39:44Speaker 5: under the surface with them even after that after that game.
- 39:47Speaker 5: And then like the Patriots game, the home Patriots game
- 39:50Speaker 5: for the Bills is their regular season Super Bowl. That
- 39:53Speaker 5: is the biggest game on the calendar every single year.
- 39:56Speaker 2: And they lost.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Not according to them. They were like, ho, ho, hum.
- 39:59Speaker 3: This is another game.
- 40:00Speaker 12: Oh.
- 40:00Speaker 4: Poor, just an absolutely poor performance by Joe Brady. And
- 40:04Speaker 4: everything that they did going into that game, coming out
- 40:07Speaker 4: of that game.
- 40:07Speaker 3: And he deserves it.
- 40:08Speaker 2: He's getting killed.
- 40:10Speaker 4: I'm not trying to take a victory lap, but this
- 40:12Speaker 4: is what I was talking about before the game. I
- 40:15Speaker 4: knew Sean McDermott in that spot would have him ready.
- 40:18Speaker 4: I want to see what Joe Brady does.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Because that's the division rival. That's what you're watching.
- 40:22Speaker 4: I mean, all due respect to the Jets and Dolphins,
- 40:25Speaker 4: they're not division rivals right now. They're not in that position.
- 40:28Speaker 4: It's just the Patriots and the Bills. Those are the
- 40:30Speaker 4: only games in the AFC East that matter. And you
- 40:32Speaker 4: weren't ready to play one of them. Like, how can
- 40:35Speaker 4: you let that happen?
- 40:36Speaker 5: I've seen, like, 100 takes about the two things that
- 40:39Speaker 5: everybody in Buffalo, 12 carries for Cook, 17 routes for Kincaid. And, like,
- 40:44Speaker 5: how does that– those are your two best offensive weapons,
- 40:47Speaker 5: and you kind of took them both out of the
- 40:49Speaker 5: game on your own. Like, it wasn't even just, like– And.
- 40:53Speaker 4: You were supposed to be the offensive coordinator.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 3: Right?
- 40:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:57Speaker 4: It's not like they hired Jesse Minter and he overlooked
- 41:00Speaker 4: the offense.
- 41:00Speaker 3: Yeah. Do you know what I mean? This is supposed
- 41:02Speaker 3: to be his bread and butter. The defense is getting
- 41:04Speaker 3: the leash right now because of the new coordinator.
- 41:07Speaker 2: That's why the emailer that emailed in, I think the
- 41:09Speaker 2: Bills are getting skewered.
- 41:11Speaker 5: At least here and in Buffalo, I don't really care
- 41:14Speaker 5: about the national media as much, but I think the Bills,
- 41:17Speaker 5: I think everybody's talking about how much of a coaching
- 41:20Speaker 5: mismatch Sunday was with the Vrabel staff versus the Brady
- 41:23Speaker 5: staff on both sides of the ball.
- 41:26Speaker 4: I've seen a lot of it even nationally with with that,
- 41:30Speaker 4: you know, like same old bills, like, you know, in
- 41:33Speaker 4: position to assert yourself as, as the top dog and
- 41:36Speaker 4: you can't do it. I've heard, I've heard a lot
- 41:38Speaker 4: of that and they deserve it because they collapsed in
- 41:41Speaker 4: the big spot again. And that was like regular season
- 41:44Speaker 4: wise for a game this early in the season. That
- 41:46Speaker 4: was a big regular season game for both teams. Now
- 41:49Speaker 4: we obviously know the Patriots were more desperate because they
- 41:52Speaker 4: had to have it, but The Bills should have been
- 41:55Speaker 4: desperate to win that game.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Did that look like a desperate team to you?
- 41:58Speaker 1: No.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Evan, when you mentioned Kincaid had 17 routes, how many
- 42:02Speaker 2: snaps did he have? 25, I think. Yeah, something around there.
- 42:06Speaker 2: So they're keeping him in? No, no. Well, some of
- 42:10Speaker 2: them are run blocking, you know, run snaps. Yeah.
- 42:12Speaker 5: But like the 17 routes number, I think is the,
- 42:15Speaker 5: the most important number. Like that's just not a very
- 42:17Speaker 5: high volume of, of pass routes. So like, you know,
- 42:20Speaker 5: just to get him involved in the game plan and
- 42:23Speaker 5: get him targets and things like that. He is, you know,
- 42:25Speaker 5: and Keon Coleman had a really good game and, and I,
- 42:28Speaker 5: I'm not a big Keon Coleman guy, but he had
- 42:30Speaker 5: a big game, but Kincaid is their best offensive player
- 42:33Speaker 5: in the passing game. Like he's their best receiver. And
- 42:36Speaker 5: you know, they, they, You can't like when the Patriots
- 42:39Speaker 5: played the Raiders on Sunday, like Bauer's going to get his,
- 42:42Speaker 5: like they're going to feed Bowers. Like you can try
- 42:44Speaker 5: to take them out. You can double team them. You
- 42:46Speaker 5: can bracket them. You can put four guys around.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Them in zone coverage.
- 42:49Speaker 5: And Kirk Cousins threw one last week and right in
- 42:52Speaker 5: between the zones, right to him on an in cut
- 42:54Speaker 5: for like a 15 yard game. Like he's that, that's
- 42:57Speaker 5: what you do when you have a player like that.
- 42:59Speaker 5: And I don't know if Kincaid's quite on that level,
- 43:01Speaker 5: but they, they just didn't really feature him.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Like they didn't try to. Sticking on the Bills, Tucker writes,
- 43:08Speaker 2: and Evan brought up the point on Catch-22 yesterday that
- 43:12Speaker 2: the Bills abandoned their running game and heavy tight end
- 43:14Speaker 2: sets possibly because Gonzalez was out. The reason why Joe
- 43:18Speaker 2: Brady is around is at least partially because Josh Allen
- 43:21Speaker 2: is a big fan of his and Joe seems to
- 43:23Speaker 2: take a more aggressive approach than Sean McDermott. I wonder
- 43:26Speaker 2: if they saw the Patriots game as an opportunity to
- 43:28Speaker 2: run up the score on a floundering divisional team rival
- 43:32Speaker 2: in their new stadium and and also a chance to
- 43:34Speaker 2: boost Josh's MVP stats by going wide receiver heavy and
- 43:38Speaker 2: trying to score a bunch of points rather than relying
- 43:40Speaker 2: on their usual offense. I don't know if anyone else
- 43:42Speaker 2: has a better explanation for why they didn't run or
- 43:45Speaker 2: use the tight ends as much. What do you think
- 43:48Speaker 2: of that conspiracy theory?
- 43:50Speaker 4: I'm not buying it. Joe Brady ran the offense last year. Yeah,
- 43:53Speaker 4: but he still had McDermott. No, but he can run
- 43:56Speaker 4: whatever he wants. He could run whatever he wanted last year,
- 43:59Speaker 4: and he could run whatever he wanted this year. It
- 44:01Speaker 4: was a bad coaching performance.
- 44:03Speaker 5: I would just say a couple weeks ago they played
- 44:05Speaker 5: the Lions, and I know we talked about the Lions'
- 44:08Speaker 5: defense struggling, but Josh Allen was unstoppable in that game.
- 44:11Speaker 5: playing off the run game with two tight ends on
- 44:14Speaker 5: the field. And so I don't think that like, Oh,
- 44:17Speaker 5: we're going to put more receivers.
- 44:18Speaker 2: On the field.
- 44:19Speaker 5: So Josh Allen can put up MVP numbers. If that's
- 44:21Speaker 5: what they thought, then that was not the way to go.
- 44:24Speaker 5: Cause he's very efficient.
- 44:25Speaker 4: It may have had something to do with Gonzalez. I
- 44:28Speaker 4: think that I can understand because.
- 44:29Speaker 5: He told the, the broadcast team had the quote in
- 44:33Speaker 5: the production meeting that, that the Gonzalez injury, they met
- 44:37Speaker 5: with him Saturday, Joe Brady. And he was like, well,
- 44:40Speaker 5: Gonzalez has been playing, and so now we had to
- 44:41Speaker 5: kind of change our whole game plan. It's like, he
- 44:43Speaker 5: didn't practice all week, dude. Like, how did you not
- 44:46Speaker 5: anticipate that, that he wasn't going to play?
- 44:47Speaker 3: That's what bad coaches do. Well, especially even without Gonzalez,
- 44:50Speaker 3: I think the Patriots secondary is.
- 44:52Speaker 7: Still pretty good with, you know, Bayard and Woodson coming back,
- 44:54Speaker 7: and Carlton Davis is okay, and Marcus Jones is playing
- 44:57Speaker 7: pretty well. I think the weakness of the Patriots front
- 44:59Speaker 7: was attack them up front, you know?
- 45:02Speaker 2: Get them into big personnel, get them into base, like...
- 45:05Speaker 2: I don't want to give anybody any.
- 45:07Speaker 4: But I would just say the first three weeks without McDermott,
- 45:11Speaker 4: they played the same way they played last year. And
- 45:13Speaker 4: then all of a sudden, Gonzalez is out and they
- 45:15Speaker 4: decided to do it a different way. I don't think
- 45:17Speaker 4: it has anything to do with trying to get awards.
- 45:19Speaker 4: I don't think it has anything to do with trying
- 45:21Speaker 4: to beat up on the Patriots. They got outcoached. Just
- 45:26Speaker 4: like Seattle outcoached the Patriots in week one.
- 45:30Speaker 3: It happens.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Sometimes these coaches... You know, they think things are going
- 45:34Speaker 4: to go a certain way, and then they don't. I
- 45:36Speaker 4: just feel like he messed up. Their, like, heavy style
- 45:41Speaker 4: of offense. Like, I was calling them bully ball bills
- 45:43Speaker 4: last week. Like, that style of offense is so good
- 45:46Speaker 4: that I don't know if any defense can really stop it.
- 45:50Speaker 2: So like, why would you should.
- 45:52Speaker 5: Be dictating the terms to the defense? Not, oh, they
- 45:55Speaker 5: don't have their number one corners. And now we're going
- 45:57Speaker 5: to go completely out of like our sort of, you know,
- 46:00Speaker 5: style of play to attack that, you know, and exploit
- 46:03Speaker 5: that weakness. Like if you put, if the bills play
- 46:06Speaker 5: the way that the bills can play with their, their
- 46:09Speaker 5: quarterback under center and James cook running the ball and
- 46:11Speaker 5: the multiple tight ends, like I think that that's going
- 46:13Speaker 5: to be 30 points a game for against pretty much anybody.
- 46:17Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 46:17Speaker 2: So why wouldn't you just do that?
- 46:19Speaker 4: They're so talented that even doing it the opposite way,
- 46:24Speaker 4: they scored 26 points and missed an extra point. So
- 46:28Speaker 4: even when they don't have a good plan and didn't
- 46:31Speaker 4: play very well, that's how good they still are.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Lucas writes in. He's from Bristol. Two things, he says. Fred,
- 46:39Speaker 2: you haven't mentioned Universo once in your pick section this season. Paul,
- 46:43Speaker 2: where's the accountability?
- 46:45Speaker 3: That's a good point. It's a good job.
- 46:47Speaker 4: And it's good to call me out there, too, because
- 46:50Speaker 4: I should have been on that.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Universo. Second, I had a friend who was a Bills
- 46:54Speaker 2: friend of mine tell me, congrats on the Super Bowl.
- 46:56Speaker 2: I think it's.
- 46:58Speaker 5: So weird coming from Buffalo. The Patriots have won six
- 47:02Speaker 5: Super Bowls. They have won zero. The Patriots were just
- 47:05Speaker 5: in the Super Bowl last year. And the Bills have
- 47:08Speaker 5: never made the Super Bowl with Josh Allen, but that's
- 47:10Speaker 5: our Super Bowl.
- 47:11Speaker 6: Right.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Like, I don't know.
- 47:13Speaker 3: The logic is not.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Lucas, tell your friend, we know Super Bowls.
- 47:16Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 47:17Speaker 7: I mean, winning division games on the road every year
- 47:20Speaker 7: is a huge game. I mean, those are, to me,
- 47:23Speaker 7: where you really plant your flag as being a playoff team.
- 47:27Speaker 7: I caught a thing with two Buffalo radio guys who
- 47:30Speaker 7: were in a bad way, and they just seemed like,
- 47:33Speaker 7: all three of these games have been close. And all
- 47:36Speaker 7: three of these games, it doesn't seem like the Patriots
- 47:38Speaker 7: are afraid of Josh Allen. They seem taken back by it.
- 47:42Speaker 7: They had had this comfortable stretch where it was like
- 47:45Speaker 7: no punts and kind of an easy win.
- 47:47Speaker 3: For a little bit there. But I think they have
- 47:49Speaker 3: to respect this team's going to give them a tough
- 47:51Speaker 3: time now. All right.
- 47:53Speaker 2: 855-PATS-500 is the hotline. Let's open up the phones, see
- 47:59Speaker 2: who's there. We'll start with... Sabah in North Carolina. And Sabah,
- 48:05Speaker 2: people are accusing you of actually being a Patriots fan.
- 48:09Speaker 12: Well, first of all, it is Sabah, not Shah. Where
- 48:12Speaker 12: did you get that from, Fred?
- 48:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 48:16Speaker 12: I call you guys the, what is it, the Stiff Brothers.
- 48:19Speaker 12: We got Fred, Evan, Paul, and Mike, though.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Anyhow, it is Sabah.
- 48:24Speaker 12: Okay, let me tell you the history. Grew up five
- 48:26Speaker 12: years old, rocked Mount North Carolina, big Redskins fan. Okay,
- 48:29Speaker 12: that ain't but three hours away. And just always loved them,
- 48:33Speaker 12: you know. And then, of course, you know, I went
- 48:36Speaker 12: up to Massachusetts to do my training. And I spent
- 48:37Speaker 12: about eight years there in Worcester at UMass and became
- 48:41Speaker 12: a Red Sox fan.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Beautiful.
- 48:42Speaker 12: And kind of followed the Patriots, kind of perfectly. My
- 48:45Speaker 12: husband's a big Patriot fan. And still, you know, I
- 48:48Speaker 12: was always a Redskins fan.
- 48:49Speaker 2: I appreciate it. Oh, so your husband is a Patriots fan.
- 48:51Speaker 2: That's right. Yeah. Okay. All right.
- 48:53Speaker 12: Westford, Massachusetts.
- 48:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 48:56Speaker 12: Um and um so anyhow that's how it started and
- 48:59Speaker 12: then now i'm kind of you know with drake may
- 49:01Speaker 12: there and then with my team effectively i'm sort of
- 49:04Speaker 12: like a sports team widow like my redskins kind of
- 49:08Speaker 12: died and i can't say the c word and so
- 49:13Speaker 12: um my quarterback you know uh j uh jd glass
- 49:16Speaker 12: i call him um you know he only can play
- 49:19Speaker 12: if it's on the moon with his no gravity.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Do you have a crack on your windshield? Call J.D. Glass. Yeah,
- 49:26Speaker 2: I mean, he just– I don't know.
- 49:27Speaker 12: Anyway, he can't even finish the game. So I'm just
- 49:30Speaker 12: into the Patriots right now, and I'm just upset with
- 49:32Speaker 12: my team that I just don't really appreciate anymore. But
- 49:36Speaker 12: I do have some suggestions, if I may, about the
- 49:39Speaker 12: upcoming game. First of all, beware that Tom Brady is
- 49:44Speaker 12: on the other side. He knows Daniels, Josh Daniels, McDaniels,
- 49:47Speaker 12: whatever offense, like the back of his hands. So could
- 49:51Speaker 12: this be the instigator to possibly have your OC do
- 49:55Speaker 12: something different for a change and mix things up? That
- 49:58Speaker 12: would be nice. Move the pocket, maybe do a little up-tempo,
- 50:02Speaker 12: just something a little different. Secondly, on the Kirk Cousins,
- 50:07Speaker 12: I know Kirk Cousins very well, as he was my
- 50:09Speaker 12: Redskin for many years. He is basically, you know, military-style
- 50:14Speaker 12: kind of quarterback.
- 50:15Speaker 8: He follows the rules.
- 50:17Speaker 12: He doesn't go out of structure. He reads the right
- 50:20Speaker 12: reads and makes the right throws. However, you can bait
- 50:24Speaker 12: him into, like, showing him a look, and so he'll
- 50:27Speaker 12: do the hot read and jump it if you just
- 50:30Speaker 12: disrupt the receiver. He's kind of like a poor man's
- 50:32Speaker 12: Kurt Warner. He throws with anticipation. Timing is a big deal.
- 50:36Speaker 12: And if you knock the receivers off their spot, you
- 50:39Speaker 12: can get some thick sixes on him.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Zach Corr, are you listening? You got the game plan
- 50:44Speaker 2: from Sabah? She's spot on. Oh, okay. You got the
- 50:48Speaker 2: stamp of approval from Evan.
- 50:50Speaker 12: Oh, thank you, Evan.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Appreciate it.
- 50:52Speaker 6: Now, the last thing.
- 50:53Speaker 2: This is crazy.
- 50:54Speaker 13: This is crazy.
- 50:54Speaker 2: Out of the box.
- 50:55Speaker 12: We have a quarterback issue. Mariota is hurt. I think
- 50:59Speaker 12: he's got his MCL. You know, J.D. Glass is going
- 51:02Speaker 12: to play against the Giants. He'll probably last a quarter. Now,
- 51:04Speaker 12: we got Athens Kakalakidas. We call him AK-16, the Greek,
- 51:07Speaker 12: you know, rifle. He's a rookie, seventh-round pick.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Actually did quite well.
- 51:11Speaker 12: They are now, I think they bought in Plummer for some,
- 51:15Speaker 12: you know, to see. They're trying to find a quarterback, okay?
- 51:19Speaker 12: I don't know who your third-string quarterback is. But can
- 51:22Speaker 12: y'all give the Redskins.
- 51:24Speaker 2: The third-team quarterback, and let us give.
- 51:26Speaker 12: You guys Luke McCaffrey. He is buried on the depth
- 51:31Speaker 12: chart for Robert Stevens because we have Terry McClure.
- 51:33Speaker 13: We got Diggs.
- 51:34Speaker 12: We got Williams, who's better than your Williams. We got Burks.
- 51:38Speaker 12: We got Lane. We got so many.
- 51:40Speaker 2: So you want Barron Morton for Luke McCaffrey? I mean, yes.
- 51:44Speaker 2: No offense to Barron Morton. Sounds good. Luke McCaffrey. Sounds good.
- 51:48Speaker 2: So we'll give your game plan to Zach Korn. We'll
- 51:50Speaker 2: give your personnel move to Elliott Wolfe, and we'll get
- 51:53Speaker 2: that done. Thanks, Sabah.
- 51:55Speaker 5: I thought Kirk Cousins' scouting report was pretty accurate, though.
- 51:59Speaker 2: I'll give her credit for that. That was good. Okay. Yeah.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Amir writes in, I'll be flying 13 hours to watch
- 52:07Speaker 2: my very first live Patriots game. My wife is eight
- 52:10Speaker 2: months pregnant with our second child and just passed her
- 52:14Speaker 2: last med school final exam. So she told me it's
- 52:17Speaker 2: now or never. So this is it for him. Unlike
- 52:20Speaker 2: other listeners, I don't need restaurant recommendations. I know how
- 52:24Speaker 2: to use the Internet. Oh, OK. All I ask is this.
- 52:29Speaker 2: Last season, Fred guaranteed a victory over the Panthers. I
- 52:32Speaker 2: really want to see a Patriots victory, and I asked
- 52:34Speaker 2: for Fred to provide his never-fail victory guarantee or a T-shirt. Well,
- 52:41Speaker 2: we'll do our picks tomorrow, so I'll hold it for that.
- 52:44Speaker 2: But listen tomorrow, and you'll see what I have to
- 52:46Speaker 2: say about the Raiders game.
- 52:48Speaker 3: I'm assuming his wife isn't coming with him at eight
- 52:51Speaker 3: months pregnant on a 13-hour flight.
- 52:52Speaker 2: No, she's holding it back, but she's telling him, if
- 52:53Speaker 2: you're going to leave, this is it.
- 52:55Speaker 3: This is pretty risky, right? That's kind of risky. I
- 52:57Speaker 3: don't know.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Eight months? Well, you know.
- 52:59Speaker 1: 13 hours.
- 53:00Speaker 3: I mean, where is he coming? Did it say where
- 53:01Speaker 3: he's coming from? Oh, I just deleted it. It's got
- 53:03Speaker 3: to be a foreign land, I would assume.
- 53:05Speaker 5: I'm not an expert when it comes to that side
- 53:07Speaker 5: of things, but eight months is pretty close to nine.
- 53:10Speaker 3: It's pretty close.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:11Speaker 3: I don't know if I'd be flying 13 hours away. Math.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Rick writes in from Riverside, Rhode Island. I want to
- 53:20Speaker 2: give a shout-out to some players who have stood out.
- 53:22Speaker 2: So these are Rick's flowers. Carlton Davis has been making
- 53:26Speaker 2: some great tone-setting plays.
- 53:28Speaker 3: I would agree.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Gabe Ackes, bull-rushing Dawkins, was very impressive. He's looked like
- 53:32Speaker 2: a player who can become a very good to elite rusher. Raritan.
- 53:37Speaker 3: I would agree with that.
- 53:38Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Raritan has been making the most of his opportunities and
- 53:41Speaker 2: with more experience can become a go-to receiver for May.
- 53:45Speaker 2: And finally, May for not folding after committing two more turnovers.
- 53:50Speaker 2: Interception was on Dobbs, but May takes the hit stat-wise.
- 53:53Speaker 2: He put those behind him, and he led the team
- 53:55Speaker 2: to victory. So my prediction is Patriots 31, Raiders 14.
- 54:00Speaker 10: Wow.
- 54:00Speaker 2: That would be a convincing win. All right.
- 54:03Speaker 3: I'd take that.
- 54:04Speaker 2: We put the interception on both of them. Okay.
- 54:07Speaker 3: All right.
- 54:07Speaker 2: My food's here. Time to take a break. More calls,
- 54:10Speaker 2: more emails, more Raiders, more Bills talk when we come back.

- 56:24Speaker 9: Shoot, when I'm out there and you know the ball's
- 56:26Speaker 9: in the air, I kind of black out. I'm kind
- 56:28Speaker 9: of in that little flow state. You know, I saw
- 56:30Speaker 9: it in the air. Drake gave me an opportunity and
- 56:31Speaker 9: I just, you know, you got to come down with

- 56:37Speaker 2: Did you think you had it?
- 56:37Speaker 1: You caught it with one hand.
- 56:38Speaker 2: Did you know you caught it with one hand, basically?
- 56:41Speaker 9: Now that I've seen it a little bit and, you know...
- 56:44Speaker 9: I knew I just kind of put my hand up
- 56:45Speaker 9: there and tracked it all the way in, and, you know,
- 56:47Speaker 9: it just.
- 56:47Speaker 3: Stuck, so I'm just blessed.
- 56:50Speaker 9: I can't, I'm just so happy, you know, to have
- 56:52Speaker 9: all the hard work that, you know, we've put in
- 56:55Speaker 9: as a team and as a group, and then for
- 56:56Speaker 9: things to go the way they did.
- 56:58Speaker 14: Drake talked to you about you being in the building
- 57:00Speaker 14: first one in the morning.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Coach said Drake's the last one to leave. It was
- 57:02Speaker 1: great seeing you in there. How much later will you stay.
- 57:04Speaker 2: In the building?
- 57:07Speaker 9: Oh, you know, I'll probably be there at all hours,
- 57:10Speaker 9: anytime I can, with Drake, trying to learn from him.
- 57:12Speaker 9: You know, he's a great quarterback, so anytime that, you know,
- 57:15Speaker 9: we're watching film together, it's always something that he's pointing
- 57:17Speaker 9: out that I, that I wouldn't have noticed, uh, from
- 57:19Speaker 9: the quarterback side. So it's awesome.
- 57:21Speaker 1: Go back to that Wednesday game on Seattle, just this
- 57:23Speaker 1: past month for you. A lot of family members are
- 57:25Speaker 1: starting to talk to me. You're not up for that game.
- 57:27Speaker 1: This game you're up for pretty much make the game
- 57:29Speaker 1: when you catch right there. What's this month mean to you?
- 57:32Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 57:33Speaker 9: I mean, it means a lot, but I think, you know,
- 57:36Speaker 9: I prepare as a starter every week and, you know,
- 57:38Speaker 9: regardless how I'm going to be up or down, uh,
- 57:40Speaker 9: you know, I can't control that. All I can control is,
- 57:42Speaker 9: you know, the work I put in, uh, every day
- 57:44Speaker 9: and every week and, you know, continues to try to
- 57:46Speaker 9: do the same thing no matter what's going on.
- 57:49Speaker 11: It looks like you and Mike Gray will greet each
- 57:52Speaker 11: other just by yelling.
- 57:53Speaker 1: How do you describe the emotions in that moment?
- 57:57Speaker 10: Super high.
- 57:58Speaker 9: You know, he's a great coach.
- 58:00Speaker 10: I love him.
- 58:01Speaker 9: You know, I love the opportunity I get to play
- 58:02Speaker 9: for him. And, you know, he does such a great
- 58:04Speaker 9: job of, you know, leading us. And, you know, like
- 58:07Speaker 9: I said, just one of the best leaders I've been around, so.
- 58:11Speaker 1: And it was a touchdown pass. You had another catch
- 58:13Speaker 1: on that drive.
- 58:14Speaker 8: Where you went up high in the first half.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Another great catch. What were you thinking on that play?
- 58:20Speaker 9: Just try to make a play. Again, you know, Drake
- 58:22Speaker 9: just gave me an opportunity. And, you know, any time
- 58:25Speaker 9: the ball's in the air, try to come down with
- 58:26Speaker 9: it and, you know, try to spark the momentum and,
- 58:28Speaker 9: you know, continue to go win the game at that point.
- 58:33Speaker 10: Sorry, go ahead.
- 58:34Speaker 8: Going back to the question about the times you've.
- 58:36Speaker 2: Been inactive, you run all those routes in stadiums, home,
- 58:40Speaker 2: on the road, catching ball.
- 58:41Speaker 7: After ball in those moments when you're not going to play.
- 58:44Speaker 10: How many of those plays are you thinking about?
- 58:48Speaker 9: Shoot, all the time. You know, I think obviously we
- 58:51Speaker 9: all want to be active. We all want to play.
- 58:53Speaker 9: You know, that's a a lifelong dream and goal is
- 58:55Speaker 9: to play in the NFL. And, you know, when you
- 58:58Speaker 9: get to that moment and sometimes you don't get to play,
- 58:59Speaker 9: it sucks. But you just got to, you know, continue
- 59:02Speaker 9: to stay patient and realize just like don't live in
- 59:06Speaker 9: tomorrow or yesterday and just focus on how blessed I
- 59:09Speaker 9: am just to be here regardless, you know. And I
- 59:11Speaker 9: don't think when I was a little kid, like, obviously
- 59:15Speaker 9: it was my dream, but, you know, not a lot
- 59:17Speaker 9: of people probably thought I would be here. Now I'm here,
- 59:19Speaker 9: you know, I got so much, you know, faith in
- 59:22Speaker 9: myself and in God for giving me this opportunity just
- 59:24Speaker 9: trying to take advantage of it.
- 59:25Speaker 6: Dr.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Drake said it.
- 59:26Speaker 4: During the week in practice, some of you guys were
- 59:28Speaker 4: on the field running those plays, running those routes.
- 59:31Speaker 1: Were you on the field for those two plays in
- 59:33Speaker 1: practice this week?
- 59:35Speaker 9: On one of them I was. On the other one
- 59:37Speaker 9: I wasn't. We always run them after practice. We get
- 59:40Speaker 9: some reps. We've done one of them before. He just
- 59:45Speaker 9: gave me that opportunity.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Which one were you on the field for and which
- 59:49Speaker 1: were you not?
- 59:49Speaker 9: We were on the end, the first one. I've ran
- 59:52Speaker 9: that a couple times with them. Then Previous weeks I've
- 59:54Speaker 9: ran the last catch before, but not this week, but,
- 59:58Speaker 9: you know, sometimes it's there.
- 59:59Speaker 1: I think a pretty.
- 59:59Speaker 16: Special moment in the locker room for you with Coach
- 1:00:02Speaker 16: handing out the game balls.
- 1:00:03Speaker 9: Can you describe what that meant to you? I mean,
- 1:00:08Speaker 9: so cool, so special. You know, I got a great
- 1:00:13Speaker 9: team in there. I got great coaches. You know, they're
- 1:00:15Speaker 9: there early allowing me to learn. They're there late, you know,
- 1:00:19Speaker 9: waiting for me to ask them questions and, you know,
- 1:00:21Speaker 9: Everyone on this team just worked so hard. And so,
- 1:00:23Speaker 9: you know, we just got to continue to do that
- 1:00:24Speaker 9: and continue to, you know, build our identity and stack wins.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Who did you have here today?
- 1:00:30Speaker 9: Mom, dad, girlfriend.
- 1:00:32Speaker 10: So got a good group.
- 1:00:33Speaker 9: They all came in. Girlfriend drove. So she's a champ
- 1:00:36Speaker 9: for that. And, you know, I'm super excited to go.
- 1:00:38Speaker 9: Go see him.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: Thank you, guys.
- 1:00:41Speaker 10: Appreciate it.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Let's just start with kind of. the win.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: What did that mean to you guys to be able.
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: To drop the field with four and a half to
- 1:00:48Speaker 7: go and then Craig with the interception and then Henry
- 1:00:50Speaker 7: with the catch to kind.
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: Of cement it?
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: What did that win do for you guys to.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Get you to 2-2?
- 1:00:55Speaker 10: It was amazing. Piggybacking off of what you were saying,
- 1:00:58Speaker 10: it's a great team win.
- 1:01:01Speaker 11: Just like myself and the others, we look forward to
- 1:01:04Speaker 11: just moving on.
- 1:01:05Speaker 10: Obviously celebrating the win is.
- 1:01:09Speaker 11: For the moment or whatnot, but I look forward to
- 1:01:12Speaker 11: just Putting my best foot forward, moving on to the
- 1:01:15Speaker 11: next point.
- 1:01:15Speaker 16: Take us back to the second touchdown catch that you
- 1:01:18Speaker 16: made and how you were.
- 1:01:20Speaker 10: Able to pull that out. Great ball by Drake. I
- 1:01:24Speaker 10: was able to adjust to it, obviously.
- 1:01:26Speaker 11: And, you know, it just comes down to the details, techniques,
- 1:01:30Speaker 11: and fundamentals just throughout the course of the week.
- 1:01:32Speaker 16: How rewarding was this production for you today, knowing that
- 1:01:36Speaker 16: you had talked.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: This week about staying true to your process?
- 1:01:41Speaker 10: Say that again?
- 1:01:42Speaker 16: How rewarding was the production for you today, knowing that
- 1:01:46Speaker 16: you had talked this week about staying true to your process?
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: Oh, I mean, yeah.
- 1:01:51Speaker 11: I mean, it feels good, but, you know, I like
- 1:01:57Speaker 11: to stay true to my humility and just move on
- 1:02:00Speaker 11: and put my best foot forward.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: What's your relationship like as far as just building on
- 1:02:04Speaker 7: a daily basis with Drake? And how much do you think,
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: how high is the ceiling for you two as far
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: as what you.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Can do out there with the football group?
- 1:02:12Speaker 10: Um, it's growing, you know, it's growing, it's maturing.
- 1:02:16Speaker 11: And, um, you know, he knows better than I do
- 1:02:18Speaker 11: that the process is more important than anything. And we
- 1:02:21Speaker 11: just look forward to as a team, just putting our
- 1:02:24Speaker 11: best foot forward.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Uh, amazing.
- 1:02:30Speaker 11: Um, I've, I've been around him since I've got here.
- 1:02:32Speaker 11: He's one of the hardest working kids I've ever been around. And, um,
- 1:02:36Speaker 11: I'm excited to go to war with him. Uh, that
- 1:02:41Speaker 11: was a snack, snack of the year. Snagged the year, man.
- 1:02:44Speaker 10: Like I said, I watched the kid work all week.
- 1:02:47Speaker 11: You know, I'm just blessed to be around someone like him.
- 1:02:52Speaker 16: How would you describe what took place in there when
- 1:02:55Speaker 16: everyone got back into the locker room?
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: It was exciting.
- 1:02:58Speaker 10: It was a lot of emotion. It was excitement. It was,
- 1:03:01Speaker 10: you know, joy, passion, whatever you can name.
- 1:03:06Speaker 11: But, you know, I speak for obviously the team, myself,
- 1:03:13Speaker 11: Whatever the case may be, I just look forward to moving.
- 1:03:15Speaker 10: On and putting my best foot forward.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Anyone else?
- 1:03:32Speaker 10: Obviously, really good defense.
- 1:03:35Speaker 11: It just came down, obviously, to our process as an offense,
- 1:03:38Speaker 11: as a team, and just piggybacking off of what i
- 1:03:41Speaker 11: said before just continuously putting our best before that's all
- 1:03:46Speaker 11: all good.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: Peace and now great moments in.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: History all right so we're gonna go negative concerns this
- 1:03:55Speaker 4: is you know basically my wheelhouse okay so i would
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: worry that how they played offensively is how they want.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: To play Right.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: But you're worried about it.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: How they played offensively in the game is not an aberration.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: That's how they want to play. That means you shouldn't
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: be worried about it. No, that's something that I don't
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: think a lot of people are worried about.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: I'm talking about you, but you are worried about it.
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: So the question was, I think he just put me in.
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: I felt like we were doing pics all of a sudden.
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: He put me in the grinder. The question was, what
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: is something that you're worried about that other people aren't?
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: No, that you shouldn't be.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: No, he asked for both. Helen asked for both.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: No, I know. But it wasn't, what are you worried
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: about that other people? It's like, what are you worried
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: about that you shouldn't be worried about?
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: Okay, well, this is something that other people aren't worried
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: about that I am.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: Why are you bringing other people? I want to know
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: your opinion.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: I just told you.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: How they play offense is something that I would be
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: worried about that fans aren't. They think that Sunday was great, right?
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: That was the second part of that one's question.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: I don't know if that's the spirit of the question.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: That's another great moment from Patriots Unfiltered. All right, back
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: here in Patriots Unfiltered. It's a big game for a
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: lot of reasons. It's a throwback game, right? That's one thing.
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: So people... always interested in the uniforms that they're going
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: to wear. I know, you know, deuces, deuces, ilk. Uh,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: but also it's a celebration of the 2001 team. It's
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: the 25th anniversary of that Superbowl. So a lot of
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: alumni will be in attendance for that game. And then
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: there'll be a special halftime ceremony for Adam Vinatieri. You'll
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: be getting his soup hit, not Superbowl, his hall of
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: fame ring at halftime here. So, um, and if you're
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: not at the game, You can watch that halftime ceremony
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: live on Patriots.com and the Patriots app. So big game.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: Big week. A lot going on.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Stacked roster, right, of alumni that are coming back from
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: the game. Yeah, there's over like 20 guys coming back.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: You know, Troy will be here.
- 1:06:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: Yeah, Troy, I think, is going to have to leave
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: us a little early to get out there.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: He's going to have to leave the pregame show a
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: little early. I think we can let that happen. I
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: will allow.
- 1:06:12Speaker 7: We've got to get his picks first, but you know
- 1:06:14Speaker 7: what we noticed this week?
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: Paul noticed it. It was like all of a sudden
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: the picks results are starting to compile. And you're starting
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: to see an NFL player get a little competitive. All
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: he's talking about is like, I got to get back in.
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: Because there were a couple. We do some over-unders, right?
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: And we do like individual players. And it'd be like
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: Trevion Henderson over-under 41 and a half rushing yards. Well,
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: he had like 45 and then he lost five yards.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: So Troy complained.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: So he's like oh he's like all stressed out and
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: i was like don't worry troy we're gonna run the
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: clock out he's gonna get sure enough two yard run
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: he gets 42 and the over under was 41 and
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: a half mac hollins you know he leaves the game
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: but he just got it before he left the game
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: and he is he's getting competitive about it right we
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: all stink by the way at the over unders yeah
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: we do but it's it is funny that he's actually
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: taking this seriously.
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: I wonder how like I wonder what Vrabel's going to
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: do because he's got a game to coach, but he also,
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: I'm sure, wants to be as part of it if
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: he can.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: He's got to give the halftime speech, though. He's got
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: to get in there, get the guys fired up.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: So big game, halftime, live on Patriots.com and the Patriots app.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: It'll be good to see Adam here, and all the
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: alumni will be on the field as well because they
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: were all his teammates in 2001.
- 1:07:29Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: One more bit of news, Fred.
- 1:07:33Speaker 7: Officially, Drake May is your AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on.
- 1:07:38Speaker 10: Really?
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: It's officially announced.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: 12 o'clock. Wow, that's big news. And I'm kidding, right?
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: Player of the Week. Was it FedEx or what is it? No,
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: this is the official NFL Player of the Week. I
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: thought it was sponsored. It says no sponsor.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: No sponsor. This is legit.
- 1:07:53Speaker 7: Do you guys remember, has he won it before? Did
- 1:07:56Speaker 7: he win it last year at all? Anybody want to
- 1:07:58Speaker 7: take a stab at it?
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: I think he did, right?
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: You're asking the wrong person.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure he did. He did.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: I couldn't tell you. You want to take a guess?
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Which week?
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: It was a very exciting game. Baltimore? Buffalo.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Week four. No, no, no.
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: Very exciting. Great atmosphere. Big hits.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: The Giants game? That wasn't even his best game.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: That was exciting? That was a blowout.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: No, it wasn't exciting. I agree with you. Some of
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: us like when the Patriots blow out another team. No,
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: but I mean like.
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: I mean, the Patriots winning in Buffalo and in Baltimore.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: That's stressful.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: That wasn't exciting. Those were exciting games. He was definitely.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: Better in those two games than he was.
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: Not that he was bad in the Giants game, but
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: it was the stakes and the opponent.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Anyway, you know, I don't. Last week, Boomer Esiason was
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: saying they should bench him. I think somebody else nationally
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: said it, too. And now this week he's player of
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: the week.
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: How did I miss that?
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: I keep receipts. You know that.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: Boomer Esiason said that they should bench him?
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: Boomer.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: You don't listen to the Greg Hill show.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: That is fact.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: It was on the Greg Hill show. That is fact,
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: not opinion. Who was the other ex-player?
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: It was Terry Bradshaw that said they should put him
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: on the bench. Boomer Esiason said it, too. Both of
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: them said it. Also, don't listen to Fox. Yeah. Both
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: of those... Former quarterbacks said that, which was kind of weird.
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: So without– like I didn't know this at all, but
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: is there any chance that what Boomer was talking about
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: is just like sort of give him a little bit
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: of a mental break?
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: No, he's not saying that he should lose his job.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Okay. All right. Not saying he should lose his job.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: Still disagree, but– Yeah.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Yeah. No, he wasn't saying he should lose his job,
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: but he just.
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: We've had guys on this show suggest that.
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: We had caller.
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: What a difference a week makes. Not caller.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: We went from that. We had caller. Yeah, we went
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: from that to now he's player of the week. So, unbelievable.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: He's on the line now. Now Mark Andrews is retiring.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: No, no.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: It's a press conference.
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: We posted a video of the Chisholm catch because we
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: can't post enough of videos, which is great. And it's
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: like the cinematic one.
- 1:10:10Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:10:12Speaker 5: I know that the catch was unbelievable, but the throw
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: was also perfect. That was right up there, I think,
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: with a lot of the ones he had last year.
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: I thought the two touchdown throws, the second one to
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: Dobbs and the one to Chisholm, were as perfectly thrown
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: as you can get.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: You know how I've talked in the past about players
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: ought to do my wrestling exercises for their neck so
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: when they fall they don't... Well, shout out to Craig Woodson.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: Because if you look at the slow motion of when
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: he had his interception, he falls flat on his back.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: His head never makes contact with the ground. So Craig
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: Woodson has definitely been doing my neck bridge exercise. Strong neck.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: Gay Back has been doing it too with his wrestling background.
- 1:10:57Speaker 7: I'm sure he could wax poetic on that.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: But my boy Craig Woodson, good for you. Held your
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: head up after that catch. Good play.
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: No concussion. Feeling good.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: All right. Let's get back to the phones, and it
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: wouldn't be a weekday without a call from Christian from L.A.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: What's up, Christian?
- 1:11:18Speaker 8: Yeah, hey, you guys.
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: Can you guys hear me?
- 1:11:20Speaker 8: I have my ear pods up.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: You're kind of muffled. You're a little bit muffled, but
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: you never have a good connection anyway.
- 1:11:26Speaker 8: No, I'm not connected.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: That's why.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: That's why.
- 1:11:30Speaker 8: So, Paul, I know you were talking about me just
- 1:11:32Speaker 8: now when you go, oh, uh.
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: What was your first clue?
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: Oh, we lost you. He's in the canyon. You must
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: be in the hills of L.A. or something.
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: I don't even mean this disrespectfully. There was literally one
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: guy who called in and said that they should bench him.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: It was him. Like, what else could I have been
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: talking about?
- 1:11:51Speaker 10: That's not what I said.
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: That's not what I said. What I said was if
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: his name was not Drake May, you'd be thinking about
- 1:11:57Speaker 8: sitting this guy down. And what the coaches did was,
- 1:12:01Speaker 8: if you do recall, he did sit in the fourth
- 1:12:04Speaker 8: quarter of one of those games, and then he got
- 1:12:06Speaker 8: sat down and talked to him. What happened? He got
- 1:12:08Speaker 8: his head together, just.
- 1:12:09Speaker 9: Like I said.
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: It was 35-6. I said to Benjamin, I said.
- 1:12:12Speaker 8: If it wasn't Drake May, any of the team would
- 1:12:15Speaker 8: sit this guy down. So let's let that guy call
- 1:12:18Speaker 8: or start to bench him. That's not what I said.
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: You did.
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: And what you just said indicates that you think he
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: should have been benched, but only his name protected him.
- 1:12:25Speaker 3: That's what you just said.
- 1:12:26Speaker 8: You would sit this guy down and talk to him.
- 1:12:29Speaker 8: I didn't even say bench him.
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: I'd have more respect for you if you just stood
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: by your conviction.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: Just say Drake's pretty good.
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: I was wrong. Just stand by your opinion. That's all.
- 1:12:40Speaker 8: I kept telling you his stats for three weeks after that, Paul.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: If it wasn't Drake May, he would have been benched.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: He just said that just now, right?
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: The player should have been benched, but only because of
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: his name.
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: That means you would advocate for him being benched.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:12:57Speaker 8: If his name was not Drake May.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: Correct.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: As long as we're all on the same page, we
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: all agree.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: If it was Jimmy Garoppolo, he would have been benched, right?
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: Christian, the best debaters, the best arguers never admit when
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: they're wrong, Christian.
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: Evan will teach you about that.
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: You just got to stand ten toes. When you never
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: admit when you're wrong, you can never lose a debate.
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: Sometimes you get it wrong.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: I thought the Patriots were going to lose in Buffalo.
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: I was wrong. Sometimes you get it wrong. I heard
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: what he was saying when he called in.
- 1:13:24Speaker 10: Me too.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: I got it right.
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: I was wrong.
- 1:13:28Speaker 8: He was playing terribly, and he got himself together. Now,
- 1:13:31Speaker 8: can I talk about the Raiders, please, Paul?
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: You can talk about whatever you want.
- 1:13:37Speaker 8: Can I talk about the Raiders now, Paul?
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: Okay, what do you got? Quickly, because, you know.
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: Did you lose your spot.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: On the script? You had to go back to the top?
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: Wow.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: Well, he's got that Tesla, so he's got the big screen.
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: That is true.
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: It's like a teleprompter.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, he can read it right off the screen. Just
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: don't hit anybody with your doors that come open on
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: their own.
- 1:14:01Speaker 8: The Patriots are playing the Chargers here in L.A., and
- 1:14:04Speaker 8: I welcome you guys to come and check out the spot.
- 1:14:07Speaker 8: Come and check out both spots. It's an open invite.
- 1:14:09Speaker 6: I come with receipts.
- 1:14:10Speaker 8: Anyway, on to the Raiders. What really scares me is
- 1:14:15Speaker 8: we have been notoriously bad at playing zone rushing teams.
- 1:14:20Speaker 8: And so I know Mike Frabel has taken like a really,
- 1:14:24Speaker 8: he's taking gay back under his wing, which I'm really
- 1:14:26Speaker 8: happy for. You can see him on the sidelines, like
- 1:14:28Speaker 8: just hugging him up and loving him up and giving
- 1:14:30Speaker 8: him one-on-one hands-on instruction.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: That is fabulous.
- 1:14:33Speaker 8: But, you know, I'm wondering, can we really set the edge?
- 1:14:37Speaker 8: If we can't, that's going to be a problem. And
- 1:14:38Speaker 8: now we've been notoriously bad against tight ends. I know
- 1:14:42Speaker 8: you guys said we're going to play split safeties, but
- 1:14:44Speaker 8: what personnel are we actually going to use for that
- 1:14:48Speaker 8: with those big body guys? And the last thing I
- 1:14:50Speaker 8: have is, can I get the under over for FN
- 1:14:53Speaker 8: Chisholm targets? I'll take it off the air.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: Bye, Paul. Four and a half.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Targets. Targets.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Four and a half. So I'll say that's what I
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: think you had four targets last week.
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: So you're going to say over or under.
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: No, he asked for an over-under number. So I just
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: said it at four and a half.
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: You guys can go.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: I'll go over on that one.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: I understand what he's saying about the run game.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: Like I think that the Raiders, I'm sure they will
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: are going to put their two tight ends out there
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: and they're going to test the edges of the Patriots defense.
- 1:15:23Speaker 5: I mean, he just watched Kenneth Walker when Superbowl MVP
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: running on the edges of the Patriots defense seven months ago.
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: So I don't know why he would change the approach
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: at all. And hopefully the Patriots are more equipped or
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: better equipped to defend it this time. And, you know,
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: we were talking in during the break about how well
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: this edge group has played. And I would say really
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: above expectation for all three of those guys going into
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: the season.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: But that, that was how they lost.
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: The super bowl was 12 personnel and edge runs and
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: things like that.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: And, Let's see it again.
- 1:15:54Speaker 7: Get specific, too, with, you know, like Caleb on chase
- 1:15:56Speaker 7: on said that they wanted to go different direction because
- 1:15:58Speaker 7: the run defense.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: So now you get Draymond Jones in there. I mean,
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: it's just that one for one kind of swap.
- 1:16:03Speaker 7: I know it's very specific, but, you know, those are
- 1:16:04Speaker 7: the kind of things in the chess match that, you know,
- 1:16:06Speaker 7: be interesting to watch.
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: Draymond Jones.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: Hold up. Yeah. Yeah. I guess Aaron in Port Jervis,
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: New York. The Dobbs interception is bothering me or the
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: call around that is bothering him. The replay on TV
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: seemed to clearly show the ball touched the ground. No,
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: it didn't. While Dobbs hit, then he rolled and the
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: ball popped out and was caught. Was the call on
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: the field that the ball never touched the ground, or
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: was the call that the ball was in Dobbs' possession
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: when it touched? The second one.
- 1:16:35Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: It would seem to me that if the ball touches
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: the ground, unless Dobbs completes the catch, then it should
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: be dead ball. I don't think it touched the ground. No,
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: I think it did touch the ground, but his hand
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: was underneath the ball.
- 1:16:47Speaker 11: Right.
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: And I think he had firm control.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: Of the ball. Yes. His hand was definitely underneath it.
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: It was an unfortunate play. I mean, it was a
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: fluke kind of play, but I... Yeah, no, I watched that. Like, listen,
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: I was hoping it touched the ground, too, but... His
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: hand was underneath. I'll tell you another play in the
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: game that was close. I mean, it was definitely an
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: incomplete pass, but it was real close to another strip sack.
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: He had an empty hand, but then his hand got
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: back on the ball and propelled the ball forward, and
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: that's what saved the strip sack.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: It was borderline.
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: He had just enough control of that coming forward, but
- 1:17:23Speaker 4: that was close. I think they called that one right, too.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: There was like a split second where I don't think
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: he had control of the ball. Yeah, I calmed down
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: those around me on that play because I saw that
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: it was a forward pass right away. I said, don't
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: worry about it. Unlike the Marcus Jones fumble. That one
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: I didn't know.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: What the hell is going on?
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: See, unlike Christian, I can admit, I didn't know.
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: I was wrong.
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: I didn't know.
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: Now, that one I did know, so I can't be
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: a magnanimous and say I didn't know.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: Herm, Herm's in D.C.
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: What's up, Herm?
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: What's going on? Is everything good?
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: Oh, boy.
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: What's going on with your connection? I had a robot.
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: Why don't you try to call back? Get a better connection.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: I can't handle that. Let's go over to Boston Cream.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: What's up, Boston? That's right, boys.
- 1:18:12Speaker 8: The underdog patriots are back.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:18:17Speaker 13: I think we need to put a time limit on Saba.
- 1:18:20Speaker 13: I don't know if it's pronounced Saba or Blah Blah
- 1:18:22Speaker 13: because she doesn't stop talking. Nobody cares about The commanders.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: That's true.
- 1:18:29Speaker 8: This is a must-win game as Mr.
- 1:18:33Speaker 13: Cream is going to be in the stadium cheering his
- 1:18:36Speaker 13: lungs out.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:18:38Speaker 13: So, Fred, I need this to be a must-win.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: Okay, well, you'll have to wait until tomorrow because I'm
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: still gathering my thoughts.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: I'm patient.
- 1:18:46Speaker 8: I'm patient.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: I need a couple more commutes before I can, you know.
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: Fair enough, fair enough. A couple more commutes.
- 1:18:53Speaker 8: Shout out to Toronto Will, who's leading the PU Pick'em.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: League this year with a 45-19 record.
- 1:18:58Speaker 8: It is still going.
- 1:19:01Speaker 13: And we're getting a lot of fan support.
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: There, Fred.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: 45-19. I still owe some people some stuff from last year, right?
- 1:19:10Speaker 13: Uh, I, I think Matt Morrell might've taken care of it.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: Good job, Matt.
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:19:15Speaker 13: Yeah. I, one last thing, one last thing. I do
- 1:19:18Speaker 13: have a question.
- 1:19:19Speaker 7: Who's someone who has impressed you and who's someone who's unimpressed,
- 1:19:23Speaker 7: I guess, been unimpressive thus far.
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: Okay. All right. Well, you'll take it off the air.
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: I have one for impressed.
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: Well, who is it?
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: Christian Ellis.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:32Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: That's a good one. Sure.
- 1:19:34Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: I mean, I don't want to just pick like, you know, Mr.
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: Big Hit, Christian Gonzalez. Yeah, Christian Gonzalez really impressed me.
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: I think Christian Ellis has been sneaky good in really
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: every game.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: Really good. And not impressed is Gilliam. I'm disappointed.
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: I like the Christian Ellis shout. I think he deserves
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: a lot more love. I think he's been excellent. Really
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: good blitzer, really effective hitter. He had that play on
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: Sunday where he was carrying the wheel and he peeled
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: off the wheel route and just absolutely crushed the tight
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: end on the shallow. And I was really impressed by
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: a lot of those different like zone drops that he's
- 1:20:10Speaker 5: had and blitzing run defense even uh spying josh allen
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: a couple of times in the game on sunday i
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: just feel like he kind of gets under uh underrated
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: because of spillane you know it's kind of like the the.
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: Work he's been better than spilling well.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: Yeah they've all been good but you know he's had
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: a number of big hits and you know you look
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: at that and say well you know he must be
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: really strong and fast but a lot of making those
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: type is timing as well yeah you know so he's
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: got a He seems to have a good knack for
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: timing these hits. Yeah, and I think he's fast. He
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: runs really well.
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: He converts speed to power really well on contact.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: A lot of those. Speed to power. Speed to power.
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: Power to power.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: It's impressive. Speed to speed. Can I have a down one?
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Gilliam's not bad.
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: Corey Durden, just the whole nose tackle position in general.
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: In this matchup, that worries me a little bit with Linderbaum.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: You know, I just.
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: I still feel like they get moved a little bit
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: too easily inside in the run game, and you like
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: to see them be a little stouter.
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: I'd love to just have a big-bodied guy inside. What
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: was the name?
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: Oh, like Kyrus Tonga?
- 1:21:13Speaker 7: Yeah, but even in the draft, Caden McDonald, is that right,
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: from Ohio State? A big foundational kind of dude to
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: stick in there that you know can just control the
- 1:21:24Speaker 7: middle gaps.
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: I'm with Fred on Gilliam.
- 1:21:26Speaker 7: My radar first went up, I think it was the
- 1:21:28Speaker 7: second pad of practice, and he got a veteran day rest,
- 1:21:30Speaker 7: and I was like, what's going on there? He's had
- 1:21:32Speaker 7: some veteran day rest. I just wonder if he's not healthy,
- 1:21:35Speaker 7: if he wasn't healthy when he got here.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Oh, maybe.
- 1:21:39Speaker 7: And when he's in there, it's just he's not doing
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: what I thought the fullback's going to do is, you know.
- 1:21:43Speaker 10: Move guys.
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: Speaking of how, is Harold Landry ever going to play?
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: So he could be practicing now. And the fact that
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: he hasn't, like Brendan School has been practicing for a
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: couple of weeks. And, you know, I would say he's
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: probably poised to come off now. I think he's going
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: to get activated.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: They did, we probably should mention the transaction they let that,
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: is it Jose Ramirez?
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: Yes, they have two open roster spots.
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: So they have, yeah, they have the spots.
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: I wouldn't be surprised if Schooler gets activated now.
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: Yeah, Marcus Bryan, I think, might have a chance to
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: get activated as well. I mean, they've had so many
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: injuries on the offensive line that he's not a guard, but,
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: you know, it still.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: Helps to have the depth. So, yeah, Landry, I... I'm
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: very skeptical if they're going to get anything.
- 1:22:23Speaker 7: Who do you pull off the field? Is he going
- 1:22:26Speaker 7: to come back and be better than one of these
- 1:22:27Speaker 7: three guys right now? I'd rather have some growing pains
- 1:22:30Speaker 7: with Akis and Ponder than to try to shoot. Now,
- 1:22:33Speaker 7: maybe there's an injury and you're going to need Landry,
- 1:22:35Speaker 7: but I think it's just been a weird whole thing.
- 1:22:39Speaker 7: We saw him working out in the summer a little bit.
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: He didn't look like he was very comfortable running. I
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:22:44Speaker 7: I don't know if he's going to come back, and
- 1:22:46Speaker 7: even if he does come back, I don't know exactly
- 1:22:48Speaker 7: how they get him into the lineup.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: Anybody else that you've been sort of quietly impressed with?
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: I've been a little lukewarm on Lomo just overall.
- 1:22:56Speaker 7: I mean, I just, you know, I see the size
- 1:22:57Speaker 7: and the athleticism, but I just haven't seen a lot of,
- 1:23:00Speaker 7: you know, things that make me think, all right, if
- 1:23:02Speaker 7: he gets in there, he's going to be, like, I
- 1:23:03Speaker 7: think it's going to be hold on for dear life.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: I'm going to go with the guy who plays, and
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: I'm going to say Kevin Byard. I basically noticed him
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: on one play in four games, and it was the
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: first third down in the game on Sunday.
- 1:23:13Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: He made a terrific play to knock the ball away
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: from Kincaid, but I think he's been quiet.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: He's been a little step slow in pursuit. Like in
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: the open field, that big 50-yarder, he was close to
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: that one. The run play that James Cook touched down,
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: the eight-yard touchdown, he had a chance to tackle him
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: and didn't. So little things like that with Bayard. But
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: I think that he's still doing what they mostly want
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: him to do. I still compare him to Devin McCourty
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: towards the end, where they want him to play the
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: back end, they want him to make sure there's no
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: busts and everybody knows where they're supposed to be and
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: all that kind of stuff, and I think he's doing
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: that job.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: Now, Jimmy Kibble's on IR, right? Yes. Okay, so he
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: can't bring him back.
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: I think he might be one of the guys that
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: they actually made a settlement with and he's gone.
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: Don't pull me to that. I saw Nick DiGennaro just
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: sign with the Commanders. Okay.
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: Can't bring him back. What are you doing with your lips?
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: What the hell was that?
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Herman DC is going to give it another shot. What's up, Herm?
- 1:24:19Speaker 10: What about now?
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: There we go.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: Much better.
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: There we go.
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: Much better.
- 1:24:22Speaker 8: All right.
- 1:24:24Speaker 13: Got to blame T-Mobile for that. So I have a
- 1:24:28Speaker 13: ton on the way next week, and I hope that.
- 1:24:32Speaker 13: He'll never be a sore loser like C.J. Garner-Johnson or
- 1:24:36Speaker 13: a weasel like Christian from L.A.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: Okay. All right. Those are two things to aspire against. Yes. 100%.
- 1:24:43Speaker 13: Two quick questions, and then I'll take it up there
- 1:24:47Speaker 13: and listen. I tried to look it up yesterday, and
- 1:24:50Speaker 13: I'm not sure if it's about accurate information, but it
- 1:24:54Speaker 13: looks like Drake may face a lot of zone, especially
- 1:24:59Speaker 13: the first three weeks. which obviously, you know, he didn't
- 1:25:04Speaker 13: really play that well, right? So my first question is,
- 1:25:08Speaker 13: is that pretty much, like, I guess, part of this, like, evolution, right,
- 1:25:13Speaker 13: to just, you know, being able to figure out, you know,
- 1:25:17Speaker 13: his offense against zone defenses specifically? And then my second
- 1:25:21Speaker 13: question was, it's kind of like a question about the rules.
- 1:25:24Speaker 13: The backwards pass from Josh Allen while he was in
- 1:25:27Speaker 13: that rule, a fumble. And I'll take it up there
- 1:25:32Speaker 13: and listen.
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Okay, why wasn't it ruled a fumble? Not grounding, but
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: why wasn't it ruled a fumble? Because he threw it forward.
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: Because he threw the ball forward.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it went forward. Yeah. Yeah. So whether it's underhand, overhand,
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: as long as it goes forward, it's a forward pass.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: Right, like Drake May threw a shovel pass to Hunter
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: Henry earlier in that game.
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: Nice RPO design.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: And if that, for whatever reason, gets knocked down or whatever,
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: it's not a fumble. As long as he throws it forward,
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: it doesn't matter how he throws it forward.
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: It's a forward pass.
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: Yep.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: A lot of people are saying it should have been
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: a fumble.
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: You can make an argument it should have been intentional grounding.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: It definitely should have been intentional grounding.
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: But it's not a fumble.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: It's not a fumble. I mean, all the conspiracy people
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: are drawing that line. If you look at the lettering
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: in the end zone and use that as your mark,
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: the L from the bill's, It was very close.
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: It was definitely close.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: It was closer than people say it was.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: Oh, who's saying it wasn't close to intention around it?
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: Because people were taking the photo, the still, of course.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: The ball's already out of his hands, and they're using that. Well,
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: he was fading that way. But the tackle box is
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: set by the two tackles. Right. So they used two.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: They set the tackle box. That's the first photo. And
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: you can look at where the L is, where the
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: outside of the tackle is. And then you look at
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: the next still that they used, and you look at
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: where that L is.
- 1:27:02Speaker 13: Right?
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: In relation to Allen. But the still was after he
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: had thrown. The ball was already out of his hand.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: And that's not an accurate one.
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: I don't see how anybody can make an argument that
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: that wasn't close. It was close.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: It was close. He was drifting that way. I'd like
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: to see one.
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: I think it was intentional ground.
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: I'd like to see a still of when the ball's
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: still in his hand.
- 1:27:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: Because it was even closer than that one, and that
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: one was close.
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: I think there are three or four intentional groundings every game,
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: a couple on each team, and they never call it.
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: They always do what they did in this game. They
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: err on the side of giving the.
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: Quarterback a little.
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: They do.
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: If he's close to the tackle box, he's out of
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: the tackle box. If there's a receiver that's actually on...
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: I would say Shakir was probably about 10 yards away.
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: I don't think he was close enough to that not
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: to be intentional grounding. I would call it, but they don't.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: Ever call it. I would also say that....
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: Where the tackle box is live is probably next to impossible. Now,
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: maybe they could use replay assist to draw the lines
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: and figure it all out, but to expect the refs
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: in real time to remember where Deion Dawkins was lined
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: up and be able to call it very, very close
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: like that is probably a little bit tricky.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: The other thing that would have been great is if
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: they did call it intentional grounding to determine... where the
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: ball is when he actually lets it out of his hands.
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: Because he was right on the goal line when he's
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: throwing the ball. The ball has to be all the
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: way out of the end zone for it not to
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: be a safety. And I just wonder where exactly was
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: the the back half of the ball when he lets
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: it go from his hand with that sort of backhanded
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: flip i think it may have been a safety yeah
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: he's crazy but it should have definitely been intentional grounding anyway.
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: Josh i don't care about the inside no.
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: I'm just saying like if you're gonna call the game
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: you should call it right they don't i i i.
- 1:28:53Speaker 5: Don't know like i always err in the side of
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: like Let's keep the quarterbacks healthy and stuff like that. So, like,
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: if they're under an immense amount of pressure and they
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: throw a ball away so they don't get– What.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: About erring on the side of rewarding a good play
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: by the defense?
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: That's why I don't like that they don't call intentional
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: grounding because you dial something up and you get there
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: and then the guy.
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: Is able to just go like this. Intentionally throw the
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: ball away. Yeah.
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: I totally– I agree with what you're all saying, but
- 1:29:17Speaker 5: I would rather Drake May and Josh Allen and all
- 1:29:19Speaker 5: these quarterbacks to, like, play the whole season and not
- 1:29:22Speaker 5: have to wait.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: But that's not going to stop them from being tackled
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: by calling the right play. It kind of does. When
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: they throw the ball.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: Yeah, because if you throw the ball away on some
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: of these plays, then the guys aren't tackling them to
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: the ground.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: All the time. Yes, they are. Not all the time. Well, no. Right,
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: if there's space between them. But on a play like that,
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: he gets brought to the ground either way. Yeah, I know.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: Most of the time, I would say the guy's getting
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: hit either way.
- 1:29:45Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: It's so hard to play defense.
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: I even get sort of annoyed sometimes when you dial
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: up a blitz and you get there and you hit
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: him as he throws it, and it's one of those
- 1:29:55Speaker 4: like we're talking with Drake May. You don't only not
- 1:30:00Speaker 4: get the fumble, but you don't even get the sack.
- 1:30:03Speaker 4: The ball goes back to the line of scrimmage because
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: it's considered an incomplete pass. I mean, it's just tough.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: It's no one's fault.
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: But you won the play, and all you end up
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: with is an incomplete pass.
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: And by the way, I'm with Troy Brown. These quarterback
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: roughing plays need to be reviewed. Because I've seen at
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: least twice this year where they call the guy putting
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: his weight on the... And both times the player put
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: his hands down to kind of minimize that and didn't
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: get credit for that. And so they need to review
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: those because good defensive plays are being negated because of.
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: I think they just need to do away with that
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: whole putting the weight on the guy. I mean, again,
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: these defensive players, like, I don't know how.
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: You do it. Spin off. Try not to.
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: I have to consciously... you know, defy the physics involved
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: of me landing on this guy here.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: You know, if I make a real sound tackle and
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: bury my shoulder pads in it, my head's going to
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: be down. So it's hard to, you know, do anything.
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: And I get it.
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: They do, like, there's a famous one with Tony Siragusa,
- 1:31:03Speaker 4: you know, once upon a time when he was a Baltimore,
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: he clearly landed on purpose on Gannon in that AFC
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: championship game. He did that to try to hurt him.
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: He drove him into the ground.
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: And that should be a penalty, what he did. It
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: wasn't at the time. But I don't see that a
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: lot in the league.
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: And if you review it, you'll see it. It doesn't
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: have to be a split-second decision by the ref.
- 1:31:23Speaker 7: Do you think it's changed the way that pass rushers
- 1:31:25Speaker 7: kind of play, where in the past it felt like
- 1:31:27Speaker 7: they want to kill the quarterback, and now it feels
- 1:31:29Speaker 7: like if you go out there trying to kill the quarterback,
- 1:31:32Speaker 7: you're probably going.
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: To have a negative. Well, you still want to, you
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: still want to intimidate him and put the fear of
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: God in him. You just got to do it cleanly.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: You can't, you know, kill the head. Remember that guy
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: from the saints, Greg Williams, Greg Williams, strike zone, you know,
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: like you can't go low, can't go high. Like a
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: lot of people can't land on them. Like, you look
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: at the old Tippett things and yeah, some of the
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: things he did then you wouldn't, especially guys down, but
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: a lot of his hits were just shoulder into his midsection. Yeah.
- 1:32:01Speaker 4: That's when I was thinking of suplex guys.
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: I mean, those were like, but, but when he used
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: his shoulders, they were clean hits. Yeah.
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: No, he didn't know what state he was in.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: We got enough backup quarterbacks playing in the league right now.
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: I agree with that. No, that's true, man.
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: Um, Just do the neck things and you won't hit
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: your heads. Eric in Rochester, New York. I was listening
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: to yesterday's show and I just realized how many subtle
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: movie quotes or references Mike sneaks in on a regular basis.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: Yesterday's mention of Jazz Odyssey as a reference to Spinal
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: Tap may have been a piece de resistance when it
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: comes to this. Or maybe it's just because it's my
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: favorite Christopher Guest movie.
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: Me too.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: Never change, Mike. Christopher Guest. Who wants Jazz Odyssey?
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: It's one of my favorite lines. It's random. This is
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: Spinal Tap? It doesn't hold up.
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: I'm sure it doesn't.
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: It's a spoof. It wouldn't be for you. It's not serious.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: Travis in West Virginia.
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: Okay, it's like that.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: Travis says, it's fitting that Herman DC uses T-Mobile, maybe
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: also drives a Kia. You've got to use Verizon. Verizon
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: is the one you've got to use. I've got gripes
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: with Verizon these days.
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: I've been Verizon for life, man. There's a surprise. I
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: haven't really ever had a problem.
- 1:33:18Speaker 7: I'm a Verizon cell phone since I got my first
- 1:33:20Speaker 7: cell phone, and now I have Verizon Internet.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: Good company guy.
- 1:33:25Speaker 7: I also have a Verizon credit card, so I'm a
- 1:33:28Speaker 7: Verizon card-carrying member.
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: What do you get for that?
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: You get cash back on certain things.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: Cash back.
- 1:33:34Speaker 3: 5% on gas and groceries.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: On long-distance calls.
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: Well, you can use it to apply it to either.
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: You're punching the number.
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: Do you remember when we were kids, Paul?
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: At home, like, oh, long distance, it costs extra. You know,
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: you can't.
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: You got to wait until 5. Yeah.
- 1:33:48Speaker 7: When I moved to California, I would call my parents.
- 1:33:50Speaker 7: I would ring once and then hang up, and then
- 1:33:52Speaker 7: they would call me back.
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: Well, you know what I used to do? So back
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: when they had pay phones. When I was in the
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: dorm at University of Tampa, the way we would do it,
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: I'd do operator assistance, collect call. No, person-to-person call to
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: my father. And then he'd pick it up and say,
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: he's not here. And then he'd hang up and call
- 1:34:12Speaker 2: me back.
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: There you go. Subtle nods, you know. Yikes.
- 1:34:16Speaker 15: Get it.
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: Remember calling cards, too? I had a calling card for
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: a while. I had a calling card for a little bit.
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: When we used to travel, my mom owned her own business,
- 1:34:23Speaker 5: so she would, like, have to buy calling cards to
- 1:34:25Speaker 5: call back to the office to check in on the office.
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: This was before, like, cell phones could do, like, international, like,
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: plans and stuff like that.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: So you used to buy... They sold it at the hotel.
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: You could buy a.
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: But you never had a deal with it. Like, literally,
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: what Fred's talking about, if you had to make a
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: call from outside of your... area code, it costs more money.
- 1:34:47Speaker 4: Even if it was just like you were calling from
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: 617 to 508, it would cost a little more money.
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: And if it was a real long distance, you had
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: to wait until after 5.
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: Remember the commercials?
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: Yeah. And now listen, I remember before 508, there was
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: no 508. It was 617.
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: My day, we.
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: Didn't have 508. 617 is the right area code.
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: Yeah, 617 was my area code.
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: I have that on my cell phone. I'm never going
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: to lose it. Me too. I can keep it.
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:35:15Speaker 7: My I don't really use my personal one, but I
- 1:35:17Speaker 7: still have a 310, which that's the number to have
- 1:35:19Speaker 7: out in California.
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: You get the 310.
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, 310.
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: Then you're with.
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: Christian and Monica. The personal cell phone is a 617.
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: This one's not. Yeah, 508. The Patriots one is a 508.
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: Remember the Seinfeld one where, I forget, he had a girlfriend.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: Kramer had a girlfriend who got her area code changed,
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: and it was like, She moved out of the country.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: It was a different part of New York, right?
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: Yeah, right. Just down the street.
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: Everything comes back to.
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: Sure.
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: Alec writes in Guten Tag. He says he's from Berlin.
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: Fred made a quick mention about Evan using stats possibly
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: to erroneously pick his games. That's why he's so bad.
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: Last season, I had commented on the possibility that Evan
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: is misusing NFL stats to pick his games. This is
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: a flawed approach as these stats, such as next gen,
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: though highly detailed, they're fundamentally descriptive. What most of the
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: PU crew seems to understand better than Evan is that
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: every game in matchup brings a new set of intangible
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: human factors. Also, there is turnover every season, roster, coaches,
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: not to mention substitutions. This is way too deep. Due
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: to injuries and other factors. So you really need to
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: reassess every week, of course.
- 1:36:35Speaker 5: This is looking way too much into it. And that's
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: coming from me.
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: I think we should put a camera on tomorrow. Tomorrow
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: after the show.
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: Let me just finish up, Alex. I'm falling asleep. I've
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: teased Evan of this in the past. He's fine in
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: descriptive work, explaining what we are seeing and describing a
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: play and so on. But he falls short in forecasting
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: wins and losses because he seems to lean on descriptive stats. Thus,
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: he mistakes past performance for future certainty. I suppose his
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: love of history and limited math skills explains this. One
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: more thing for Paul. Do not hide or feel you
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: must apologize for your Boston, New England accent on the program.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: Embrace it.
- 1:37:18Speaker 12: No.
- 1:37:20Speaker 5: I say this all the time, and I know it's
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: going to come off as an excuse. I don't watch
- 1:37:24Speaker 5: a lot of football on Sundays. I watch who the
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: Patriots play, and I watch the opponents.
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: What do you think? I sit in front of a TV? No, stop.
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: I don't really like.
- 1:37:37Speaker 2: I'm with you. I understand that, Fred.
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: The reason why I think I'm bad at the picks
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: is because I'm paying attention to the Patriots and the Raiders.
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: I don't really know what's happening with the other 30
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: teams in the league as much.
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: But you have all week to catch up. I don't
- 1:37:57Speaker 2: even care.
- 1:37:58Speaker 3: Some of us like to watch football.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: My focus is solely.
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: Do you enjoy watching football? i think you're missing the
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: point my my focus is not like why would i
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: catch up like what so i'd be better at picks no.
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: So you know the league yeah feel for the league
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: yeah i would.
- 1:38:14Speaker 4: Just say in evan's defense if anybody ever saw how
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: little time it takes us to go after the show
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: because he always leaves early and we do the picks
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: off air yeah if anybody watched to see how little
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: time it takes to rifle through the 16 games for
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: him to make his picks you wouldn't say that he's
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: overly reliant on stats.
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: He doesn't look at anything.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: But are you interested in the league as a whole?
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: Yeah, sure.
- 1:38:39Speaker 5: But I'm interested in the league as the whole in
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: a totally different facet than.
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: I think that's what Alex is saying.
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: But I'll give you this.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: But but that but what Alex is saying like that,
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: I don't really think that that's like I don't really
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: care about that as much for my job. My job
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: is to cover this team and cover the and cover
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: the Patriots and cover the teams the Patriots are playing.
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: So like with the stuff that I'm talking about, the
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: stuff that I'm writing about during the week has nothing
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: to do with, uh, Sabah's team.
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: I'm not saying any of us could, should lose any
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: sleep about being bad at picks. No, none of us should.
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: It's a fluke.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: None of us should, but there is something, how bad
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: you are.
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: And you know, well, I don't know.
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: I don't really care. It is like literally like a, a,
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: the least of my concerns. I couldn't even possibly tell you.
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: This'll be an Evan.
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: It's, uh, Let's go.
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: It's New Orleans playing Baltimore. Baltimore by seven. I'll take Baltimore,
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: but give me New Orleans. They've been frisky. They've been
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: a little frisky. I'll take the point.
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: But that's what we all do. No, no, no.
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: But that's all, like, people have this. He's not running
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: it through the data set. People have this opinion.
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: Well, then he comes down with his sheet, which is
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: always wrong.
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: That Evan's, like, looking through reams of data.
- 1:39:52Speaker 4: Like, I can just tell you, like, thank you.
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: No, he's not doing that.
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: There's no reams of data.
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: When he's doing his picks. I really don't care.
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: Let me put this in the Lazar 2000. Yeah. What
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: I do.
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: Is you're right that he's bad, but you're wrong. And why? Right.
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: But it's just kind of fluky. And what I try
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: to do is, you know, you guys make fun of
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: me for watching Red Zone during the postgame show. So
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: I do have an idea of what's going on in
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: the four o'clock games. But when I go home, generally,
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: when I get home after a Sunday at one. I'll
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: spend a half hour poking around the different channels just
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: to see some highlight pack. Oh, okay, that's how that
- 1:40:27Speaker 4: happened in that game.
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: But I don't study. It's not the stats or anything
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: like trends.
- 1:40:32Speaker 2: I have no idea. Sneak, didn't he have a good week,
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: I heard, every once in a while?
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: For him.
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: Oh, I thought you had a good week.
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: He came in last in the spread again. He's well
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: under 500 again.
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: I thought he had a really good week.
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: Everybody had a good week picking the overall games, which
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: tells me there probably weren't any upsets last week.
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 1:40:50Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:40:51Speaker 5: We're also starting to get to a point where the
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: league is declaring. I think in the beginning I was
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: picking based off of what I thought teams were going
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: to be going into the season.
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: We had 13-3s, 12-4s, and 11-5s in the overalls last week.
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: Everybody did well.
- 1:41:05Speaker 7: I have a question. What did you do on the
- 1:41:08Speaker 7: first Sunday of NFL season? We weren't We had already
- 1:41:12Speaker 7: played our game.
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: We weren't... He went out with that. It worked.
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: No, no. We didn't watch football that weekend.
- 1:41:17Speaker 7: Because I love that. That was great to me. Especially
- 1:41:19Speaker 7: the first weekend of the year. I put on Red Zone.
- 1:41:22Speaker 7: I was like Red Zone 1 to 430.
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: I just... My brain just doesn't really fixate on these
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: types of things. When I.
- 1:41:34Speaker 5: know the league, the rest of the league to me,
- 1:41:35Speaker 5: that's like knowing like schematically, like what's going on with
- 1:41:39Speaker 5: the rest of the league and what teams are trending,
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: you know, what's trending, what, what are teams doing schematically?
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: That's like the thing that's happening defensively, offensively, you know,
- 1:41:49Speaker 5: that those types of things like. I don't really get
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: into what's their record and how are their games unfolding
- 1:41:56Speaker 5: unless they play the Patriots.
- 1:41:57Speaker 7: Yeah, that's one thing I do try to do is
- 1:41:59Speaker 7: just keep an eye on the Patriots' future opponents as
- 1:42:02Speaker 7: we go. So I'll always make a point to, all right,
- 1:42:05Speaker 7: let me make sure I know what happened with the
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: Raiders and the Jets last couple games.
- 1:42:09Speaker 2: To me, the NFL is my soap opera. Some people
- 1:42:12Speaker 2: like soap opera. Some people like the WWE industry. Like,
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: the storylines of the NFL are my soap opera. So
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: I'm interested that way.
- 1:42:21Speaker 3: Me too.
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: It's an ongoing story. And so I kind of, you know,
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: we get on the bus after I game. I check
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: all the scores. If something pops out, I might. poke
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: in and see, okay, why was that a blowout? Why
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: was that close? You know, it's interesting.
- 1:42:36Speaker 4: That's why Fred and I tend to dominate the picks.
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: I guess so.
- 1:42:39Speaker 2: I don't even look at the scores.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: I will say when the.
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: You say that with such disdain, right?
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: Like, what are we paying this guy?
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: I know. You know, you're starting to sound like Eric Scalavito.
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: Don't even look at him. I don't watch the news.
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: Like, I'll... I'll look at the standings on Monday just
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: to make sure I know where the Patriots are in
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: the bigger picture.
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: So, okay.
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: See, I'm with you with the soap opera.
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: Just look right here for the Patriots the last two weeks.
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: To me, that was a fascinating sort of microcosm of
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: what you're talking about.
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: I get in trouble when I talk about the soap opera.
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: They lose 35-6 and everything looks bad.
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: They were outclassed.
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: And then in one week, Vrabel's able to flush that
- 1:43:28Speaker 4: and get them ready to go the following week, and
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: they go on the road and they pull off an
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: upset as a touchdown underdog.
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:33Speaker 3: Like, that to me is what the NFL is week
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: to week.
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: But, you know, Lamar is out. How is Baltimore going
- 1:43:38Speaker 2: to handle that?
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: Who do they have?
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: Can they get by without Jackson?
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: I might be.
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: I'm a little more towards Evan. Chicago winning two games
- 1:43:43Speaker 3: with two different quarterbacks without Caleb Williams.
- 1:43:47Speaker 2: New head coaches. How are they going to do? Yeah.
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: I'm a little bit more on Evan's end of the spectrum.
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: I will say.
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: Yeah, you guys both don't care.
- 1:43:54Speaker 7: With the four-win seasons, that had me looking outside a
- 1:43:57Speaker 7: lot more just to see.
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: I'm the complete opposite.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: I was looking in the college game when we were
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: four-win seasons.
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: When the Patriots are good, there's more reason to find
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: out who else is good. Who do you have to
- 1:44:06Speaker 4: worry about? Is Kansas City back?
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: I haven't really seen enough.
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: I'm worried about one team and one team only, the
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: Las Vegas Raiders. There you go. See, I can overlook teams.
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: Fred used to get mad at me for overlooking teams.
- 1:44:18Speaker 4: I don't play. I don't prepare for the game. It
- 1:44:21Speaker 4: doesn't matter if I'm overlooking the Raiders this week.
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: It's not about overlooking them.
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: But I don't care about the Raiders.
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: All the content that we're doing is about the Raiders.
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: This show, Catch-22, my game preview.
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: I like locking in on Monday, looking at one team.
- 1:44:37Speaker 5: When Fred said that he gets on the bus and
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: looks at the scores, I'm already watching the tape when
- 1:44:42Speaker 5: we get on the bus.
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: But that's just– And.
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: I just know because I watch the games during the course.
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: Of the season.
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: Except I point out things that are just– you guys
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: say that completely wrong all the time.
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: You have stuff like from a statistical standpoint that I
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: wouldn't know.
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: Like the stuff about the tight ends with Oakland and,
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: I mean, Vegas.
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: Vegas.
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: And all that stuff.
- 1:45:04Speaker 4: I'm not saying that that's irrelevant.
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: That's highly relevant.
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: No, it's just– to me, it's just– like, listen, Evan.
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: The work you put in is unmatched. I will give
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: you that.
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: Well, it's matched.
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: And the detail that you put into it is admirable
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: in my view. I just find it interesting that you
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: can be so involved in the Patriots and what they
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: do and not really give a damn about the rest
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: of the league. It's just interesting. Not from like a
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: soap opera type of standpoint.
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: Do you mean the offseason, though?
- 1:45:35Speaker 7: Because I feel like sometimes you'll jump into like a
- 1:45:37Speaker 7: Ben Johnson offense or things like that.
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: Yeah, but just to study the offense just to see
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: what it is that they're doing, you know, because I
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: think a lot of things in the league are trendy
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: or trends.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: A lot of things are borrowed.
- 1:45:51Speaker 5: So, like, you know, I'll look at the top offensive
- 1:45:53Speaker 5: coordinators and the top play callers really on both sides.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: Of the ball and, like, what are they doing? Like,
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: I think that was really the most fun part about this.
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: So if your job was to scout other teams, would
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: you enjoy that? Yeah. Oh, you would? Yeah.
- 1:46:06Speaker 10: Okay.
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: Why don't you see if you can make that happen? But, like,
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: it would be about.
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: Trying to get rid of them? It would be.
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: Probably.
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: Scouting other teams that are on the Patriots schedule.
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of an example.
- 1:46:21Speaker 5: I think I've watched maybe if 10 seconds is a
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: lot of the Arizona Cardinals.
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: If they're not on the schedule. And you probably won't
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: play them in the Super Bowl.
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: And they stink. I would share my disdain for the
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: Arizona Cardinals.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: Unless it's a team.
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: That plays in primetime, like a Thursday night game or
- 1:46:39Speaker 5: something like that. I just haven't watched.
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: Any of them.
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: So the Dolphins, division rival.
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: And I haven't given one ounce of thought to them
- 1:46:47Speaker 4: because they stink. I mean, by design, they stink.
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: I mean, I watched a little bit of the Browns
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: because they were in primetime last week, right? That was
- 1:46:55Speaker 5: the first time I'd watched the Browns all year. Teams
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: like that are just not– I don't care.
- 1:47:00Speaker 7: I do make an effort to watch some other highlights
- 1:47:02Speaker 7: more so because I'm terrible at the picks and I
- 1:47:04Speaker 7: don't want to be that terrible.
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: But I do think I– I do my job and I.
- 1:47:07Speaker 7: Watch the NFL through a Patriots lens.
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: Like, that colors everything I do is through the Patriots lens.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: I believe that that's how you should look at it.
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: Yeah. That's what I'm saying. Like, I watch the NFL
- 1:47:18Speaker 4: and the AFC teams in particular in relation to the Patriots. Like,
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: I keep track of what Denver's doing, what Kansas City's doing,
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: what Baltimore's doing, what Houston and Jacksonville are doing. Now,
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: Houston's 0-4, but I still respect the talent.
- 1:47:34Speaker 10: And I.
- 1:47:35Speaker 4: I think they're probably done, but I mean, are you
- 1:47:39Speaker 4: going to be stunned if they end up going like 10-7?
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: Not stunned, but I'd be pretty impressed.
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: I wouldn't be stunned if they go 10-7.
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: I'll give you a little example. So we were talking
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: about the Raiders-Chiefs game earlier.
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: So I was watching the tape of that, and I
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: will take mental notes of the Chiefs side of things
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: when I'm watching stuff like that.
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: But then all of a sudden the score was 30-19.
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: I was like, what the heck happened? They fumbled the kickoff. Right.
- 1:48:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: So, like, when you're watching the film, like, that's not
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: on the film.
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: So, like, I had to go and, like, look and
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: be like, wait, how did the score change here? So, like,
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: those types of things sometimes, like, the, like, they.
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: Don't have special teams plays on the stuff that you watch.
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: No, You can get the special teams copy, but I mean,
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: let's be honest. Unless there's a big return or something
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: like that, you're not really.
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: But I always thought it was just the game.
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: No, offense, defense, special teams are broken up into three
- 1:48:34Speaker 5: different files, three different sets of films.
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: I mean, that's exactly what I would do if I
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: was doing what you do. With a game like that,
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: I'm watching the Raiders because that's the opponent, but I'm also...
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: more closely watching Kansas City because they're a future opponent
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: and they're 4-0.
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: Are they good or are they a fraud?
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: You sometimes lose how the game unfolded, like the temperature
- 1:48:57Speaker 5: of the game and the ups and downs and the
- 1:49:00Speaker 5: ebbs and flows of the game when you're just watching
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: it to watch it from an X's and O's standpoint,
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: which is why a lot of the coaches watch the
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: TV copy and they watch the TV broadcast.
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: Because I think that matters.
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: Yeah, to get more of a feel of.
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: The flow, yeah.
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: I don't need to prepare like that, so I don't
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: watch both of them.
- 1:49:19Speaker 7: Well, that's like for me when I do do film
- 1:49:21Speaker 7: grinding and I just go through the offensive plays and
- 1:49:24Speaker 7: then the game gets all come bobbled in my head.
- 1:49:26Speaker 7: And I'm like, oh God, what happened when? I can't
- 1:49:28Speaker 7: keep track of everything.
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: Because it's good to see the sequencing of how the
- 1:49:32Speaker 5: plays build, but it's not good if you're trying to
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: keep track of how did this game go.
- 1:49:37Speaker 4: But game flow is important.
- 1:49:40Speaker 3: So you could look at the.
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: the situation like Evan and I sort of talked about
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: it in the first 10 minutes of the show today.
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: Like you could easily look at that game last week
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: and say, well, I was kind of a deceptive 30
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: to 27 game or whatever.
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: Was that the final score? Yes.
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: That's always deceptive, but it really wasn't like the Raiders
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: probably deserve better. If you actually watch the game and
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: not just the plays, because they kicked a field goal
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: in the third quarter that would have put them up
- 1:50:06Speaker 4: six and The Chiefs committed a penalty. The Raiders decided
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: to take the points off the board and go for
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: it on fourth and two, and they failed. Then, as
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: Evan already pointed out, at the end of the game,
- 1:50:17Speaker 4: Kenneth Walker rushes for a touchdown to put the Chiefs ahead,
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: and then the Raiders fumble the ensuing kickoff. They would
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: have had plenty of time to go down and retake
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: the lead, which they were moving the ball throughout the
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: second half. But that allows Kenneth Walker to score two
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: touchdowns in the span of 30 seconds, and all of.
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: A sudden it's 30-19.
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: And then the Raiders, to their credit, went right down
- 1:50:39Speaker 4: the field and scored a touchdown and were able to
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: stop Kansas City in plenty of time to get the
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: ball back down three.
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: And that's why Paul knows how to pick, because he
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: can remember every play of every game.
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: That's beyond me.
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: Thank you, Fred. That makes me feel better.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: That whole segment was on Red Zone when I got home.
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: I watched like the last four minutes of that game.
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: I watched.
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: But that's like usually you don't get a chance to
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: do that.
- 1:51:03Speaker 2: That's why like that's the two different brains.
- 1:51:06Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:51:06Speaker 2: Like that.
- 1:51:06Speaker 4: Well, I am a little different when it comes to that.
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: You can make fun of me.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: But Paul's got like he's like great at that kind
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: of stuff. You know, like in the ebb and flow
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: of the game. Right. And I'm I'm in I'm in
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: the forest. I want you to clear because we have
- 1:51:21Speaker 2: people that I think are misinterpreting. You, one person thinks
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: that you're pretending you don't like football and the other
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: person is saying that you don't like football. No, that's
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: not it at all. I just watch the game.
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: Like I've just, I, it's going to sound pretentious, but
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: I watched the game a little from a different like
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: point of view.
- 1:51:39Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: He doesn't, he doesn't watch the ball. Yeah.
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: Like I, I'm watching the game from like, what's the
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: schematics of the game and like, what are they, what
- 1:51:47Speaker 5: are they doing?
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: Yeah. When you eat your food, are you thinking, how
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: is this food made? No, I only do this with football. Okay.
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: But you guys understand what I'm saying. Like, it's not
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: that I.
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: I never got the impression that you don't like football.
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: No, I have obsessed with it, but obsessed with it
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: in a very different way than some other people.
- 1:52:05Speaker 7: Well, in like a micro sense of looking at one
- 1:52:07Speaker 7: team and through the lens of that, what the other
- 1:52:10Speaker 7: team's schemes are. You know, I think it'd be really
- 1:52:12Speaker 7: hard to do what you do the way you do it,
- 1:52:14Speaker 7: trying to cover all 16 games and break down all 16.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: I mean, maybe Stretch can do that.
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: Now, if you had a lawn... You wouldn't be excited
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: about mowing it and making it look nice. You'd be
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: excited about how does it grow and what are the
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: different fertilizers I should use.
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: It's just football, Fred.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: It's just football. Don't overthink it. So you have this
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: type of point of view only for football, not in
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: other things than that.
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: Yeah, like the way that people want me to be
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: about football in the emails is how I am about
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: the Celtics. Like, that's, like, my, like, fandom and, like,
- 1:52:48Speaker 5: all that stuff comes out with the Celtics.
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: Okay. What about sex? How do you look at sex?
- 1:52:53Speaker 2: No comment. The analytic side of it is football. Football only.
- 1:52:59Speaker 10: Okay.
- 1:52:59Speaker 3: Send an extra blitzers to the backside, you know.
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: Wow. Where did we go there for?
- 1:53:09Speaker 3: He swore earlier in the show.
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: I know, I know.
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: That was another blue comment. I always work in blue. Paul,
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: I went through Houston. I can get him to nine wins,
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: no problem. No problem at all.
- 1:53:19Speaker 4: So you can get him to nine wins with no problem.
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: So in other words, you wouldn't be surprised if they
- 1:53:23Speaker 4: went 10-7?
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: No, I wouldn't. Once I reviewed, I mean, you got
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: two against the Titans. You got the Giants. I know
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: they're okay. Chargers.
- 1:53:29Speaker 9: Colts.
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: A couple with the Colts. Steelers. Who knows where they're
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: going to be.
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: Eagles.
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: Tough game. Packers, yeah.
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: They're probably done. They're probably done. 0-4 is, you know,
- 1:53:40Speaker 4: there's a reason why only one team ever. Now, I
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: also think that's deceiving because there's an extra playoff team now,
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: and there's an extra game. You play 17 games, and
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: there's seven teams that make the playoffs.
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: Let's rifle through our calls. We're getting to the end
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: of the show, but I want to get people a chance.
- 1:53:54Speaker 2: Carter's in Denver. What's up, Carter?
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: Carter.
- 1:54:00Speaker 2: Carter. All right.
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: Carter.
- 1:54:02Speaker 2: He's high in Denver.
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: Um.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: Let's go to Kirk in Detroit, or Eric in Detroit. Sorry.
- 1:54:09Speaker 3: I was going to say Kirk.
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: Eric. Eric. Eric in Detroit.
- 1:54:14Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: I think he was thinking of Eric. I think these
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: people felt we were never going to stop talking, which
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: I don't blame them. It's kind of what we do.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: Herbert in Dallas.
- 1:54:24Speaker 3: Herbert.
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: All gone.
- 1:54:28Speaker 3: I'm going to blame you.
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: All gone. Yeah, I think they knew we were babbling. Okay.
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: Paul, maybe an opportunity for you, pro football talk.
- 1:54:34Speaker 7: Reporting that UNC is hiring a search firm to find
- 1:54:36Speaker 7: a new GM to work with with Bill down in
- 1:54:38Speaker 7: North Carolina.
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: I think that would be a seamless fit. That could
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: be you. What do you think? You come in. He
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: comes in and says, this is it.
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: This is the end.
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: What do you think of this guy? I go, I
- 1:54:46Speaker 3: don't know. You invented football. Why don't you tell me?
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: This is the end. I'll see myself out. A, I'm
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: Bill Belichick. I picked my GM, which isn't happening. And B,
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: they're picking a GM to fire him.
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: Search firm. Yeah. This is going to be the schools guy.
- 1:55:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Maybe, yeah. This is the beginning of the end.
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: Or the end of the end. I don't know.
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: How are they doing this year?
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: Listen, they gave Notre Dame a game. You've got to
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: give them credit.
- 1:55:15Speaker 3: Not really.
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: What?
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: Not really. No?
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: The game was never in doubt. They gave Clemson a game.
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: I'll give you that.
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: They gave Clemson the game, but Notre Dame pulled away
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: at the end, but they were there.
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: They turned the kick for a touchdown and made it
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: look closer than it was. Okay.
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: All right. See, he knows more. Yeah, I didn't really go.
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: I was just following it. I was like, well, they're
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: giving him a game.
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: And they also, I believe, scored the last touchdown down.
- 1:55:39Speaker 4: I think they were down 37 to 20. Like, the
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: game wasn't really.
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: It's interesting.
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: They're doing some dings defensively, North Carolina.
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: They're better defensively than they were last year.
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think that that's interesting because, like, I
- 1:55:51Speaker 5: don't think he's totally lost his fastball when it comes
- 1:55:53Speaker 5: to scheming defense.
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: It's just, like, the whole rest of it that's kind of.
- 1:55:57Speaker 3: It's been kind of quiet, though. I mean, other than.
- 1:56:00Speaker 3: Did you say it's been kind of quiet? North Carolina?
- 1:56:04Speaker 4: There's not a day that goes by that I don't
- 1:56:07Speaker 4: see a breaking story on the athletic or, you know,
- 1:56:12Speaker 4: Dan Wetzel, one of these guys with an expose on
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: all the.
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: Problems at North Carolina. I mean, you know.
- 1:56:17Speaker 4: Like, I still think it's 50-50. He makes it through
- 1:56:19Speaker 4: the season.
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: I just haven't heard from Jordan in a while.
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: That one I will admit. I will agree that she
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: has faded a little bit. All right. It's been a
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: good show.
- 1:56:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: It's been a good show. I think we learned a.
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: Lot about Evan.
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: Too much.
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: You good?
- 1:56:39Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: You still feeling good about this Raiders game? We'll see tomorrow.
- 1:56:44Speaker 3: You're not going to let that out of the bag
- 1:56:45Speaker 3: until tomorrow?
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: We're going to talk about it tomorrow. I said I
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: need a couple more drives back and forth to hash
- 1:56:49Speaker 2: things out.
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: I don't know what I think about the 26 Patriots yet,
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: but I feel really good about.
- 1:56:59Speaker 3: The 26 Patriots against the 26 Raiders.
- 1:57:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, like Rabel, I am a little concerned
- 1:57:03Speaker 2: about depth. I want to see how the injury report
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: comes out tomorrow. Is Gonzalez back on the field?
- 1:57:10Speaker 5: They're gaining certain guys, but then they're losing. I think
- 1:57:14Speaker 5: there's a chance that Gonzalez is back, but now Matt Collins,
- 1:57:17Speaker 5: Ramondre Stevenson, yeah, whack-a-mole.
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: Exactly. We'll see. All right. I think that's it.
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: Yeah, we've got to run to Vrabel. Yeah, we'll go
- 1:57:28Speaker 3: see what Mike has to say.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: We'll see you tomorrow at 11.
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: Hey, this is Deuce. Thanks for tuning into the show.
