- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Not So Fast with Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst,
- 0:05Speaker 1: where two longtime friends challenge each other on the biggest
- 0:08Speaker 1: sports stories of the day.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Here's Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Not so fast, my friends.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Welcome to Not So Fast. I'm Andrew Perloff. He's Paul Pabst.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Of course, I'm an Eagles fan, so it's a dark day, Paul.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It's a dark day for you. It's a great day
- 0:26Speaker 2: for Brewers fans. This is like Christmas Eve if you're
- 0:28Speaker 2: a Milwaukee Brewers fan. You're hours away from a game where.
- 0:31Speaker 3: You can clinch. Don't say it's over. Don't say it's over,
- 0:33Speaker 3: but enjoy your day.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Absolutely. World Series.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We'll talk about baseball and a lot more, but let's
- 0:38Speaker 2: start with the Cowboys. 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, Paul,
- 0:43Speaker 2: we know the Eagles are injury riddled. So does this
- 0:46Speaker 2: mean anything for Dallas?
- 0:47Speaker 5: But see, the average fan doesn't know the depth of
- 0:49Speaker 5: the injuries of the Eagles. Because Saquon was out there. No,
- 0:52Speaker 5: I think the average fan. What happens on these Monday
- 0:54Speaker 5: night games, these Sunday night games, these Thursday night games,
- 0:57Speaker 5: When you get a nice, clean win like this, clean win,
- 1:00Speaker 5: everyone thinks everything is fine with your football team. So today,
- 1:03Speaker 5: I'm sure in Dallas, people are like, this is great.
- 1:04Speaker 5: We're running the ball. We're passing the ball. CD, Pickens,
- 1:08Speaker 5: everybody wins.
- 1:09Speaker 2: But I think also when you lost to a rookie
- 1:11Speaker 2: quarterback in Tampa Bay on primetime last week, you think
- 1:13Speaker 2: you could lose to anyone. So I think the Cowboys
- 1:15Speaker 2: are pretty fired up, even though they only beat Tanner McKee.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:18Speaker 5: And it started the second half. I think they're down.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Eagles are down seven points.
- 1:23Speaker 3: They go on a.
- 1:23Speaker 5: 13-play drive, eight minutes lead. It may have been more
- 1:26Speaker 5: than 13 plays. They score a touchdown.
- 1:28Speaker 3: They take the lead.
- 1:29Speaker 5: My mind starts going to, if the Eagles somehow steal
- 1:32Speaker 5: this game, it'd be chaos today. You can't be that
- 1:35Speaker 5: close to chaos or everything is fine.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I didn't see the game that way. I could tell
- 1:40Speaker 2: that they could not stop the Cowboys at all. Not
- 1:43Speaker 2: only could they not stop them, their odds of them
- 1:44Speaker 2: getting an interception or a sack or anything meaningful were
- 1:48Speaker 2: down near zero. You know they have a player named
- 1:51Speaker 2: Quinion Mitchell. Q, nickname.
- 1:52Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I think Q last night stood for quit, Paul. The
- 1:56Speaker 2: Eagles defense absolutely quit on this.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Was that a tackle? It looked like he was trying
- 2:00Speaker 3: to give him a hug.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yes, and Javante Williams, the running back for Dallas, is okay,
- 2:04Speaker 2: maybe good. He looked like Emmitt Smith last time.
- 2:06Speaker 3: That tackle wouldn't have been an HR violation. He barely
- 2:08Speaker 3: made contact.
- 2:10Speaker 4: The Eagles defense did not show up.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Ironically, as you mentioned, the offense with a backup quarterback
- 2:15Speaker 2: did show up, but the Eagles were not that injured
- 2:18Speaker 2: on defense, and that was the unit that was really disappointing.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Yeah, and the other thing is the Dallas defense has
- 2:22Speaker 5: been such maligned all year that the Eagles made them
- 2:25Speaker 5: look good.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, listen, if the Eagles with Saquon Barkley
- 2:29Speaker 2: limping through can make them look bad, there is a
- 2:32Speaker 2: real problem with Dallas' defense.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Okay, but everyone thinks that the Cowboys have discovered the
- 2:36Speaker 5: running game. They've always had Javante Williams. He's been there
- 2:39Speaker 5: a couple years now.
- 2:39Speaker 4: They're one of the worst running teams in the league
- 2:42Speaker 4: coming into this week.
- 2:42Speaker 5: They haven't had a 100-yard rusher until last night against
- 2:45Speaker 5: a depleted team. it actually points out the fact that
- 2:48Speaker 5: they don't run the ball enough historically, not since the
- 2:51Speaker 5: Zeke Elliott days.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Well, I don't know if that's actually the case. They
- 2:54Speaker 2: just don't run the ball well.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Fair point.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I mean, so far this season, they've tried to run
- 2:59Speaker 2: the ball, but it hasn't gone anywhere. And, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 2: the games, when their defense is bad, they don't have
- 3:04Speaker 2: the time to run the ball.
- 3:06Speaker 4: They're always trailing, and they have to do something.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Okay, we're going to get to the Eagles side of
- 3:09Speaker 5: this in a second, but staying with Dallas, Dallas has
- 3:11Speaker 5: a friendly schedule the next four weeks. They started not
- 3:13Speaker 5: too good. Now they can pick up wins, Arizona, Tennessee.
- 3:17Speaker 5: They do have the Niners coming up, but then they
- 3:19Speaker 5: play the Eagles in four weeks. They could pile up
- 3:22Speaker 5: three or four wins in the next month.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Oh, absolutely.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And I am totally down with them being the favorite
- 3:27Speaker 2: in the NFC East. I mean, this is ridiculous.
- 3:29Speaker 4: The New York Giants have J.J. McCarthy as quarterback.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Wait until coordinators get three or four games of tape
- 3:34Speaker 2: on him. The Cowboys have an elite quarterback, two of
- 3:38Speaker 2: the best receivers in the NFL. They added Joey Porter Jr.
- 3:41Speaker 4: On defense.
- 3:42Speaker 2: They have so many names on defense now. It just
- 3:44Speaker 2: doesn't make sense that they're not going to win this division.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Do you think some people in the media, maybe the fans,
- 3:48Speaker 5: are a little in love with the New York Giants
- 3:50Speaker 5: story and the rebirth of McCarthy and don't realize it
- 3:52Speaker 5: could be a temp story?
- 3:53Speaker 7: No.
- 3:53Speaker 4: No, they're good. I mean, yesterday I said they're for real.
- 3:56Speaker 2: They have a formula of run the ball and play defense.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Their defense is good.
- 4:00Speaker 2: But Dallas has no excuse not to win it this year.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Any year that they've ever had an easier path, I
- 4:06Speaker 2: can't think of it.
- 4:06Speaker 5: The commanders don't seem threatening. Two years ago, the commanders
- 4:09Speaker 5: were awesome.
- 4:10Speaker 2: No, the commanders are probably out. The Eagles are too injured.
- 4:13Speaker 2: The Giants and Cowboys are on a collision course. And
- 4:16Speaker 2: are you surprised, Paul, that the Cowboys are favored by Vegas?
- 4:19Speaker 5: No, because I see what you're saying. People fall for
- 4:21Speaker 5: the J.J. McCarthy thing right now, and it's understandable. But
- 4:24Speaker 5: the rest of the team around him, and I think people,
- 4:28Speaker 5: Brian Schottenheimer hasn't earned much in this league.
- 4:30Speaker 4: That's true.
- 4:31Speaker 3: John Harbaugh has.
- 4:32Speaker 5: So if I was splitting hairs, I may pick the coach,
- 4:35Speaker 5: John Harbaugh, not the team, but the.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Coach over the other coach.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Can't argue with you on that.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Right, that's what I'm saying.
- 4:41Speaker 5: I think that while it seems like a little bit
- 4:42Speaker 5: of smoke and mirrors with New York, McCarthy just has
- 4:45Speaker 5: to play decent football, and he's playing better than decent football.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Well, I mean, listen, they beat Tennessee 12-7 because Cam
- 4:52Speaker 2: Ward threw an interception on the last play of the game.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It's not like they've been world beaters. The win at
- 4:56Speaker 2: Houston was incredibly impressive.
- 4:58Speaker 4: But even that, we don't know. Houston's 2-5, so we
- 5:00Speaker 4: don't know what that means.
- 5:01Speaker 3: All right, let's get to the ego side of this.
- 5:02Speaker 3: This season seems like a lost season. Hertz is out.
- 5:05Speaker 3: There's still investigation going into his treatment.
- 5:07Speaker 5: I saw Adam Schefter talk about that last night. I
- 5:10Speaker 5: don't think they're going to have a fire sale because
- 5:12Speaker 5: some of the people they would sell, well.
- 5:14Speaker 3: They're injured.
- 5:15Speaker 5: Like, Saquon Barkley, what, are you going to add a
- 5:17Speaker 5: hamstring to be named later to the trade? He's not
- 5:19Speaker 5: ready to play for a serious team. Here's the guy,
- 5:22Speaker 5: Saquon last night. I think he played nine plays and
- 5:25Speaker 5: touched the ball all nine plays. He had to run
- 5:27Speaker 5: out of bounds and go right to the blue 10.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I think he touched a 9 out of 11 snap
- 5:30Speaker 2: or something. So, last night, if they were going to
- 5:33Speaker 2: trade him, it was supposed to be a showcase game
- 5:35Speaker 2: for him. Because you're going against a bad run defense.
- 5:37Speaker 3: In a short week.
- 5:38Speaker 4: And he did look amazing.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I mean, he had a 40-yard gain on his second carry.
- 5:43Speaker 4: So, Saquon would be a natural trade.
- 5:45Speaker 2: And here's the thing. You gave him three weeks to
- 5:48Speaker 2: heal that hamstring. If you're the Minnesota Vikings and you're
- 5:50Speaker 2: in contention, if you're a team that is one running
- 5:53Speaker 2: back away, I think you have to consider a second
- 5:57Speaker 2: round pick for Saquon Barkley.
- 5:59Speaker 3: A second?
- 6:00Speaker 4: I am having faith in that hamstring.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Okay, I'm going to not so fast you here because
- 6:04Speaker 5: I think the general manager, Howie Roseman, and the people
- 6:06Speaker 5: who run the Eagles know that Saquon is too important
- 6:09Speaker 5: to the fans to jettison.
- 6:10Speaker 2: No.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Really?
- 6:12Speaker 4: Howie Roseman? You think he cares about that?
- 6:14Speaker 5: No, but I think he may care what the fans
- 6:16Speaker 5: think of him. And if you're going to be a
- 6:17Speaker 5: competitive team next season, a healthy Saquon, he's still at
- 6:20Speaker 5: the back end of his prime. I don't think I
- 6:23Speaker 5: would move on for a second.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I don't think, as a Philadelphian, I don't think that
- 6:28Speaker 2: there are fan favorites, and he is a fan favorite,
- 6:30Speaker 2: but I think every fan... They would understand it? They're
- 6:32Speaker 2: very sophisticated. They know they got the best out of him.
- 6:34Speaker 5: Okay, let's go with the guy who actually betrayed him.
- 6:36Speaker 5: I'm calling my shot here. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown. Nice player,
- 6:40Speaker 5: not a great player, but if you're looking for an
- 6:42Speaker 5: extra receiver, which at least a couple teams are, he
- 6:44Speaker 5: played for the Chiefs before. Hollywood Brown has a one-year contract.
- 6:47Speaker 5: I think he's making $ 5 million. They could lose the
- 6:50Speaker 5: back half of that, trade him easily to a team
- 6:52Speaker 5: that's a contender.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I think you're seeing this whole thing wrong. This is
- 6:56Speaker 4: a fire sale.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I think Harry Roseman, yeah, maybe they'll do a seventh-round
- 7:00Speaker 2: pick or a sixth-seventh-round pick swapper. Hollywood Brown. But I
- 7:03Speaker 2: think that they will take calls on Saquon. They will
- 7:05Speaker 2: take calls on Jordan Davis that started.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yeah, understandable.
- 7:08Speaker 2: They'll definitely take calls on Nolan Smith, the pass rusher,
- 7:11Speaker 2: who is also hurt.
- 7:13Speaker 4: And they miss him desperately. Rick Willen, I think they
- 7:15Speaker 4: would trade him tomorrow.
- 7:16Speaker 2: But I think he killed his trade value last night
- 7:18Speaker 2: because he got torched. I would go down the list.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I think there are only four untouchable players on the
- 7:22Speaker 2: whole team.
- 7:23Speaker 3: And you said the other day, Jalen Hurts has one
- 7:25Speaker 3: more year on his contract. He's injured.
- 7:27Speaker 5: His future is murky at best. They are positioning themselves
- 7:30Speaker 5: for not just the 27 draft, the 28 draft to
- 7:33Speaker 5: remodel this franchise.
- 7:35Speaker 3: You talked about that.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Now, listen, they're number six right now in the draft.
- 7:38Speaker 2: So they're on a collision course with a quarterback. They
- 7:42Speaker 2: could easily do the same situation. They had Carson Wentz.
- 7:45Speaker 2: They signed him. And then they drafted Jalen Hurts in
- 7:47Speaker 2: the second round. They might have no choice. They think
- 7:50Speaker 2: we're not going to be a top five pick that often,
- 7:52Speaker 2: and they might have to jump on one now.
- 7:54Speaker 3: And we can talk about it later.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Like Dante Moore, where does his draft status, does he
- 7:57Speaker 5: drop a little bit? These guys might be available at
- 8:00Speaker 5: six who wouldn't be available last year at six.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Dante Moore, third round. Dante Moore, no, no, no.
- 8:06Speaker 2: They might have a mess maker or Mensa, and they
- 8:09Speaker 2: might have to make a hard decision.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I don't think Arch Manning. I can't see Arch Manning.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Can you imagine?
- 8:14Speaker 3: I cannot picture him in a Philadelphia uniform.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, one year of a bridge quarterback with Jalen Hurts
- 8:18Speaker 2: with Arch Manning.
- 8:20Speaker 4: ESPN would live at the facility because it would be
- 8:23Speaker 4: so juicy.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Before we get to baseball, helmet stickers last night. I'll
- 8:26Speaker 3: go first.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Quinton Williams, Cowboys defensive tackle. Three tackles for loss. He
- 8:30Speaker 5: had a couple blowups in the red zone. This guy
- 8:32Speaker 5: was fantastic. Never forget him at the draft when he
- 8:34Speaker 5: sneezed and blessed himself.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Really good player. Really doing well. He's really carrying the
- 8:39Speaker 3: Cowboys front line.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Come on. Quinton Williams? Yeah, yesterday he was, but that
- 8:46Speaker 2: front line has done nothing all season long.
- 8:48Speaker 4: They've been terrible.
- 8:48Speaker 3: It's not on him.
- 8:49Speaker 4: So you give him the sticker for, I don't know.
- 8:51Speaker 5: He's the best of a choppy offensive line.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Do you remember the Bucs game? They were running over
- 8:56Speaker 2: that entire line. They were.
- 8:57Speaker 3: You're very salty today.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. No, listen, I'm coming off an Eagles loss.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Quinn Willey, stick with her last night because he was
- 9:03Speaker 2: awesome last night. I get what you're saying. I just
- 9:05Speaker 2: picked a random lineman, Tyler Smith, because he came.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Back for the Cowboys last night.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Because that offensive line did whatever they wanted against the Eagles.
- 9:12Speaker 4: It was crazy.
- 9:13Speaker 5: For all I know, you made that name up. We
- 9:14Speaker 5: can't even see the front of his jersey. I think
- 9:16Speaker 5: you just made up Tyler Smith.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Tyler, I mean, there's four or five Tylers on that
- 9:19Speaker 2: offensive line. One of them is named Smith. That offensive
- 9:22Speaker 2: line pushed the Eagles around like they weren't even there.
- 9:24Speaker 2: And that is supposed to be a good Eagles front line.
- 9:26Speaker 2: And that's the formula for Dallas, by the way. Their
- 9:28Speaker 2: offensive line is going to win games. Not their defensive line,
- 9:31Speaker 2: their offensive line.
- 9:32Speaker 5: What a special day to get that helmet sticker for
- 9:34Speaker 5: Tyler Smith. All right, let's get to World Series Game 3.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Pretty good game for a few innings. Top of the fifth,
- 9:39Speaker 5: bottom of the fifth.
- 9:40Speaker 2: It's 2-0.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Looks like it's going to be this game. And then
- 9:43Speaker 3: it just broke.
- 9:44Speaker 2: What happened?
- 9:44Speaker 3: Two outs. Brewers are up.
- 9:46Speaker 5: The Yelich replay keeps the inning alive. And then this little...
- 9:50Speaker 5: hit that went up the middle. The Brewers scored eight runs,
- 9:53Speaker 5: seven straight hits. They were circling the bases.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Like it was a race.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Yeah, like the old Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs Bunny
- 10:00Speaker 2: keeps going around the bases.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I kept looking at the TV and thinking it was
- 10:03Speaker 3: a replay.
- 10:03Speaker 5: No, there's another guy getting a flare to the outfield,
- 10:06Speaker 5: a little seeing-eye single to the outfield.
- 10:08Speaker 3: No home runs. They're up 10-0. They had 10 runs.
- 10:12Speaker 3: The Rays had one hit at one point in that game.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I mentioned quit for the Eagles. I
- 10:16Speaker 2: think baseball works differently. Did the Rays kind of Give
- 10:20Speaker 2: up a little bit? Raise the white flag at a
- 10:22Speaker 2: certain point?
- 10:22Speaker 3: I don't know if they had the choice to give
- 10:24Speaker 3: up or not.
- 10:24Speaker 4: The Brewers just beat them down.
- 10:26Speaker 5: And the Brewers step on the gas. They didn't stop
- 10:28Speaker 5: trying to score runs at the end. They didn't put
- 10:30Speaker 5: the bats on their shoulders. They were still trying to
- 10:31Speaker 5: manufacture runs in the 6th, 7th, and 8th inning.
- 10:35Speaker 3: It was unbelievable. It was really fun to watch.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Now....
- 10:39Speaker 5: Game six, game seven, that's not even in play now
- 10:41Speaker 5: if you're a Brewers fan. You're thinking, win this one tonight.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Don't come home. We don't want to see it at home.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I don't know. I think there's a debate.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I don't think no one's ever really come back. One
- 10:52Speaker 2: time the Red Sox came back against the Yankees. No
- 10:55Speaker 2: one comes back from 3-0. Are you positive that fans
- 10:58Speaker 2: don't want to come home?
- 10:59Speaker 5: Let's say you were a Brewers fan who had a
- 11:01Speaker 5: ticket for you and your family to game six.
- 11:04Speaker 3: What would you be rooting for tonight?
- 11:06Speaker 4: I gasp because it's game six. If it was game five, Paul,
- 11:09Speaker 4: let's do a hypothetical. I know it's not. Would you
- 11:11Speaker 4: root for them to sweep or would you want them
- 11:13Speaker 4: to lose one?
- 11:13Speaker 5: I've been in this position 2016 Cubs. Would it have
- 11:16Speaker 5: love for the Cubs to win it at home?
- 11:18Speaker 7: Sure.
- 11:18Speaker 3: You don't care at that point. You're so desperate.
- 11:21Speaker 5: It's like when you get off the highway and you're
- 11:23Speaker 5: looking for a restaurant and there's no food anywhere.
- 11:25Speaker 4: It's open.
- 11:25Speaker 3: We're going. You just want to win tonight.
- 11:27Speaker 4: That's a good point because you're right.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I mean, 3-0 is historically unbeatable, but in that case,
- 11:33Speaker 2: I guess you haven't won since when? Ever?
- 11:36Speaker 3: Since ever.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Right around.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I just checked ever since they won.
- 11:38Speaker 2: All right. Coming up next, we have warm takes. I
- 11:41Speaker 2: have a new pick for my Western Conference in the NBA.
- 11:45Speaker 4: All right.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And we get into the Dante Moore situation. The Oregon
- 11:48Speaker 2: quarterback will be out for the season, and I'm going
- 11:50Speaker 2: to tell you what it means.
- 11:51Speaker 4: That's next. Not so fast.
- 11:53Speaker 3: If I'm a Brewers fan, I'm sitting there all day
- 11:55Speaker 3: like this today. Just get the game going. Get the
- 11:56Speaker 3: game going. Get the game going.
- 11:58Speaker 4: You think they're really nervous?
- 11:59Speaker 5: Yes, because it's so close. Like Christmas, you're like, the
- 12:01Speaker 5: presents are right there under the tree.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Got to do it at home.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Back on Not So Fast, Taft and Perloff, NBC Sports.
- 12:11Speaker 5: It's a midday pick-me-up, Perl. You've had three cups of coffee.
- 12:13Speaker 5: This is for the watchers.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Giannis.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Oh!
- 12:17Speaker 5: In your face with some of these. And then Cooper
- 12:20Speaker 5: Flagg took over later in the game. He has a
- 12:22Speaker 5: little tip block here.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Take it to the hole.
- 12:26Speaker 3: A little lefty.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Whoop, whoop. There you go.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Cooper Flagg closing it out with a t-shirt underneath.
- 12:31Speaker 2: We haven't really talked a lot about Cooper Flagg, but
- 12:33Speaker 2: that'd be good for the NBA.
- 12:35Speaker 3: He got injured week one.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that was going to be more serious.
- 12:38Speaker 2: He could be a good thing for the NBA, who
- 12:40Speaker 2: always needs new stars.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Yeah, Giannis, he made that guy.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Do you get the sense that Giannis... Sort of went
- 12:46Speaker 2: to the wrong team. I just don't see the Heat
- 12:49Speaker 2: in the mix.
- 12:49Speaker 3: We may have to tease this topic. I love this
- 12:52Speaker 3: for him.
- 12:52Speaker 5: It may be not perfect this year, but the Heat
- 12:54Speaker 5: traditionally surround their players and do the right thing.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Yeah, but if you look at the odds, no one's
- 12:58Speaker 4: talking about the Heat.
- 12:59Speaker 3: We may have to warm take this off tomorrow. I'm
- 13:01Speaker 3: going to not so fast you.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Time for warm takes here, not so fast.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I'll go first.
- 13:05Speaker 5: How about this last night? If you turned on the
- 13:08Speaker 5: World Series game last night, and we're just listening. Let's
- 13:10Speaker 5: say you had it on in the background. You're like, oh,
- 13:11Speaker 5: the Brewers are playing pretty well. What a great home
- 13:13Speaker 5: crowd the Brewers have. They were on the road last night.
- 13:16Speaker 5: They were playing in Tampa. But those Brewers fans, man,
- 13:18Speaker 5: do they travel. I don't know if it was 50-50,
- 13:22Speaker 5: but the noise level was 90% Brewers fans.
- 13:24Speaker 3: It was fantastic. But they did the math, the Brewers fans.
- 13:27Speaker 5: Getting home tickets to the World Series, one ticket, the
- 13:31Speaker 5: get-in price for Game 6 or Game 7 is about $ 2, 300.
- 13:35Speaker 5: I can get you in tonight. You could have got
- 13:37Speaker 5: in last night for $ 750. You start doing the math
- 13:40Speaker 5: if you're a Brewers fan. Round-trip ticket to Tampa, a
- 13:42Speaker 5: one-night in a hotel. You're out about $ 1, 500. You're saving $ 1, 000.
- 13:47Speaker 3: By going down there.
- 13:48Speaker 5: You get the road trip, get a little sunburn, get
- 13:50Speaker 5: a little John Candy summer rental sunburn, and go back home.
- 13:53Speaker 5: You get to see your team in the World Series.
- 13:55Speaker 5: This is the new thing for sports fans these days.
- 13:57Speaker 5: I just check prices for Game 4 in Tampa. This
- 14:00Speaker 5: could be the series clincher for the Brewers. I can
- 14:03Speaker 5: get you in for $ 600. $ 600 to a World Series game.
- 14:06Speaker 5: If I'm a Brewers fan, I'm on a flight right now.
- 14:08Speaker 5: Walk up, get a ticket. All the Rays fans are selling.
- 14:12Speaker 5: They know the season's just about over. If you want
- 14:14Speaker 5: Game 6 or Game 7 tickets, it's at $ 2, 300, and
- 14:17Speaker 5: it would go up if the Rays somehow did a comeback.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Do you have an issue with Rays fans selling tickets here, Paul?
- 14:22Speaker 5: Completely have an issue with them. I mean, because you
- 14:25Speaker 5: have to trust that your team has a chance to
- 14:27Speaker 5: come back. And imagine you sold your ticket for $ 650,
- 14:30Speaker 5: and you missed the all-time comeback.
- 14:32Speaker 3: The Cubs were down 3-1, right?
- 14:34Speaker 5: Did Cubs fans, I don't know if they sold tickets
- 14:36Speaker 5: for Game 5, but imagine how you'd feel if you
- 14:39Speaker 5: told your friends, Oh, I had game five tickets to
- 14:41Speaker 5: the 16 World Series, and I sold it for $ 600.
- 14:43Speaker 4: 3-1 is not 3-0.
- 14:45Speaker 3: That's true.
- 14:46Speaker 4: And also, they just gave up 10 runs. I don't know.
- 14:50Speaker 4: I would sell them.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I'm just going to tell you, just because the Rays
- 14:52Speaker 2: have not showed up, any sign of life in the series.
- 14:55Speaker 5: I know Brewers fans want to close at home.
- 14:58Speaker 3: It's going to sound like a home game tonight. It
- 15:00Speaker 3: will sound like it.
- 15:00Speaker 2: The other thing, too, just as a fan, how depressing
- 15:02Speaker 2: would it be to watch the Brewers clinch?
- 15:04Speaker 4: I don't want to see that.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Yeah, but the possibility, the 5% possibility that your team
- 15:10Speaker 5: goes on a run and you had a ticket and
- 15:11Speaker 5: you put it on StubHub, Vivid Seats, whatever you're doing,
- 15:15Speaker 5: I would never want to have that in my head
- 15:16Speaker 5: the rest of my life as a sports fan.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I think you've got to look at this actual series,
- 15:19Speaker 2: and if they're not up by several runs by the
- 15:21Speaker 2: fifth inning, then it's lights out because they can't touch
- 15:23Speaker 2: the bullpen. Okay, I'm going to go to college football
- 15:27Speaker 2: and NFL for my first warm take. So Dante Moore, unfortunately,
- 15:30Speaker 2: is out for the season, the Oregon quarterback. There's a
- 15:33Speaker 2: narrative out there that Dante Moore cost himself millions because
- 15:36Speaker 2: he would have been the number two overall pick in
- 15:38Speaker 2: last year's draft to the Jets, but decided to come
- 15:40Speaker 2: back to Oregon. Now, this might be true, but the
- 15:43Speaker 2: way everyone's writing about it, it's as if it's a fact.
- 15:46Speaker 2: And I do not buy that narrative for one second.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Because the media always says they know who's going to
- 15:52Speaker 2: go one, two, or three. The NFL hadn't even really
- 15:54Speaker 2: started to dig into Dante Moore. January 14th, he announces
- 15:57Speaker 2: he's going back to Oregon. And this is terrible, by
- 15:59Speaker 2: the way, that Such a serious injury. But Dante Moore
- 16:02Speaker 2: was probably thought of as a high pick. The NFL
- 16:04Speaker 2: had never made their evaluation at all. So he's listed
- 16:08Speaker 2: at 6-3. He's probably 6-1. Last year, he would have
- 16:11Speaker 2: gone in the draft with 15 starts, Paul. And the
- 16:13Speaker 2: rule around the NFL, if you don't get 21 starts,
- 16:16Speaker 2: you're not going to be good.
- 16:17Speaker 4: I don't think he was going to go number two
- 16:18Speaker 4: at all.
- 16:19Speaker 5: I see what you're saying here because you know the
- 16:21Speaker 5: quarterback rollercoaster of mock drafts. He was really, really hot
- 16:24Speaker 5: in December and January.
- 16:25Speaker 4: You know who else was?
- 16:26Speaker 2: Shador Sanders was number five In January, February, March, and April,
- 16:31Speaker 2: he went in the fifth round. I'll give you some
- 16:32Speaker 2: more names of guys who were first rounders and then fell.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Will Levis was definitely a top ten pick in January.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Gino Smith was number three overall up until the day
- 16:41Speaker 2: of the draft. Jimmy Clawson was number one overall when
- 16:44Speaker 2: in the second round. Aaron Rodgers was considered a strong
- 16:47Speaker 2: possibility to be number one.
- 16:48Speaker 4: He fell to 24. It goes on and on.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I think it's a great take by you.
- 16:51Speaker 4: I think it was the media who was saying he's
- 16:53Speaker 4: number two. We just don't know.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Right, and the other thing is the NIL money he
- 16:56Speaker 5: went back to, he used the NFL to renegotiate with Oregon.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 17:00Speaker 5: Whatever he made there was more than he would have
- 17:02Speaker 5: made if he just normally stayed there, if he was
- 17:04Speaker 5: that hot in the draft. So he got the sure
- 17:06Speaker 5: thing money. Maybe he gave up money. Maybe he gave
- 17:09Speaker 5: up $ 10 million from the NFL. But he got sure thing,
- 17:11Speaker 5: life-changing money for sure.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Right. I think we're saying it is very possible he
- 17:15Speaker 2: could have been the number two overall pick.
- 17:16Speaker 4: But people are acting as if it's a fact, like
- 17:19Speaker 4: he was taken by the number two.
- 17:20Speaker 3: They're using the math of it.
- 17:21Speaker 2: And I got the ultimate name for you because we
- 17:23Speaker 2: know him. Remember Matt Barkley? Yeah.
- 17:25Speaker 4: He went back. Everyone's like, oh, he's a top 10
- 17:27Speaker 4: pick in mock drafts. He went back to USC.
- 17:30Speaker 2: And then we found out later the NFL never had
- 17:32Speaker 2: him graded as a top 10 pick.
- 17:33Speaker 4: He was a fourth or fifth round grade.
- 17:35Speaker 5: And the media regurgitates all other mock drafts and they
- 17:38Speaker 5: take it as fact.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Yeah, and listen, some really smart draft analysts like him,
- 17:42Speaker 2: but in the most recent big board for Mel Kuyper,
- 17:45Speaker 2: he was the sixth quarterback.
- 17:46Speaker 4: That's even before the injury.
- 17:47Speaker 2: He's already fallen behind the Drew Messamakers and the very
- 17:50Speaker 2: mentors of the world because he's very unproven. He's not
- 17:52Speaker 2: played a ton of football, so I think he comes back.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Paul, you and I will debate. Does he stay at Oregon?
- 17:57Speaker 2: Or does he go into the transfer portal? And it's
- 18:01Speaker 2: a bummer that he has this injury because I would
- 18:02Speaker 2: want to see him. But just don't act as if
- 18:04Speaker 2: he gave away millions because I think he might have
- 18:06Speaker 2: known what he was doing.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Nice take by you. Possible take of the week candidate.
- 18:09Speaker 4: All right, here we go.
- 18:10Speaker 3: You may know this by now, but if you don't,
- 18:13Speaker 3: you probably heard.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Due to scheduling issues with the Atlanta Hawks having to
- 18:16Speaker 5: use their own stadium, the WNBA Game 5 Valkyries at
- 18:20Speaker 5: the Atlanta Dream will be played at State Farm Arena.
- 18:22Speaker 5: That's a good thing, 17,000. It will be played Thursday
- 18:26Speaker 5: at 12.30 p.m.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Eastern time.
- 18:28Speaker 2: What now?
- 18:28Speaker 3: On a weekday.
- 18:29Speaker 5: Just 12.30 p.m., a little brunch, some mimosas after the game.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Four mimosas on each other's head.
- 18:34Speaker 5: It's brunch time. This game is basically going into witness protection.
- 18:39Speaker 5: You're going to have to find this game. Sure, fans
- 18:42Speaker 5: that have tickets can attend. 17,000 fans can attend. But
- 18:45Speaker 5: you know who can't watch this game for the most part?
- 18:47Speaker 4: People who work.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Or how about kids, people who actually go to school?
- 18:51Speaker 5: Most kids, I think, at 12.30 on a Thursday, and
- 18:54Speaker 5: West Coast even earlier, aren't going to be able to
- 18:56Speaker 5: watch this game. This game, if it becomes the closer
- 18:59Speaker 5: for the Valkyries, is going to go down like Will
- 19:02Speaker 5: Chamberlain's 100-point game. Can you prove you saw it? Because
- 19:05Speaker 5: 17,000 people see it.
- 19:06Speaker 4: A picture of one of the stars with a piece
- 19:07Speaker 4: of paper?
- 19:08Speaker 5: Yeah, 24, because they had 24 points. How can Valkyries
- 19:12Speaker 5: fans watch this game at 9.30 a.m.
- 19:14Speaker 6: Pacific?
- 19:14Speaker 3: Do you come in a little late for work? Maybe
- 19:15Speaker 3: you can catch a little bit of it.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Look, I know the NBA, or I assume the NBA
- 19:20Speaker 5: tried to exhaust every way around this.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Can you use Georgia Tech's building? I don't know.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Could you?
- 19:24Speaker 3: That holds 9,000.
- 19:26Speaker 5: But somehow you did this wrong, and no one's going
- 19:29Speaker 5: to really care about the details and negotiations. Most people
- 19:32Speaker 5: who critique your sport are going to say, look at that,
- 19:35Speaker 5: WNBA proving again they're not ready for the big stage.
- 19:37Speaker 3: They're not ready for the big time. Here's a question.
- 19:40Speaker 5: What if Kaitlin Clark were in this finals? Do you
- 19:42Speaker 5: think it'd be at 1230 on a Thursday? No chance,
- 19:45Speaker 5: and you know what? I promise you they would have
- 19:46Speaker 5: found a way to work it out. You should have
- 19:48Speaker 5: found a way to work it out for this one
- 19:49Speaker 5: as well.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Move it a day. Do whatever you can.
- 19:51Speaker 5: You have to have national eyeballs on the final game
- 19:54Speaker 5: of your sport. And for people who critique your sport,
- 19:57Speaker 5: you gave them a day, a week, an off-season worth
- 20:01Speaker 5: of ammo. My daughters love the NBA. My daughters play poop.
- 20:05Speaker 5: They watch a lot of WNBA. Now, your boy here
- 20:08Speaker 5: missed a lot of high school for various reasons. Cubs games, whatever.
- 20:11Speaker 5: I missed a lot of high school. I'm not sure
- 20:13Speaker 5: I can ask mom if she could write a note
- 20:15Speaker 5: for the girls to miss school to watch Valkyrie's Dream
- 20:18Speaker 5: at 1230 on Tuesday. I don't know how that's going
- 20:20Speaker 5: to go with the dean of students or the principal,
- 20:22Speaker 5: but I am going to give it a shot.
- 20:23Speaker 3: We'll see if that note gets past the goalie.
- 20:25Speaker 2: It's unbelievable. It's almost like you're making this up. It's
- 20:27Speaker 2: such a terrible scenario.
- 20:29Speaker 5: When I saw it tweeted out yesterday, I think it
- 20:31Speaker 5: was Nicole Auerbach had it, or I'm sorry, a Another
- 20:35Speaker 5: reporter had it, and I was like, well, this can't
- 20:36Speaker 5: be right.
- 20:37Speaker 3: This is clearly a mistake.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a shame because I think they need a
- 20:41Speaker 2: lot more eyeballs on that game. We haven't really talked
- 20:44Speaker 2: much about that series, but it's been fun and interesting.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been good.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah, but no one sees it. Okay, I'm going to
- 20:50Speaker 2: stick in basketball but go to the NBA. Now, you're
- 20:52Speaker 2: going to get to see me make a pick in
- 20:54Speaker 2: real time here, Paul. Oh, really?
- 20:55Speaker 4: This is exciting.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Drumroll.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Yesterday, the Oklahoma City Thunder found out that they're basically
- 21:00Speaker 2: without Jalen Williams and Keison Walls for the year. Jalen Williams,
- 21:04Speaker 2: you saw what happened in the playoffs last year when
- 21:05Speaker 2: they lost him. They already gave away a lot of
- 21:08Speaker 2: their depth because of the salary cap. So they lost
- 21:10Speaker 2: Lou Dort, they lost Isaiah Joe, and others. So they
- 21:12Speaker 2: do not have the same team that won the title
- 21:15Speaker 2: at all. I am crossing them off my list.
- 21:19Speaker 3: That's an early cross.
- 21:20Speaker 2: That's an early cross because they just lost too much depth,
- 21:23Speaker 2: and that's what happens in the NBA.
- 21:24Speaker 4: That's why nobody repeats.
- 21:26Speaker 2: So I am taking Oklahoma City off. Now, that means
- 21:29Speaker 2: that there are other teams on here for Western Conference winner.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I am crossing the Spurs off. I do not like
- 21:34Speaker 2: the way they are built.
- 21:35Speaker 3: You're dun-dunning both teams?
- 21:36Speaker 4: I'm not dun-dunning them, but this is a bet.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I bet on the Thunder to win the whole thing.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I'm going to cross off the Minnesota Timberwolves, and I'll
- 21:43Speaker 2: tell you why in a second.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Understandable.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Houston Rockets, too old. Now, the next teams on the
- 21:47Speaker 2: list are the Denver Nuggets and the L.A.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Lakers.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Guess who I'm not crossing off? The Lakers. I am
- 21:52Speaker 4: not crossing off the L.A.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Lakers.
- 21:54Speaker 4: The L.A.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Lakers have recreated the Luka Doncic Mavericks to the T.
- 21:58Speaker 2: They have the big center who rolls on the pick
- 22:00Speaker 2: and roll and dunks. Austin Reeves is their Kyrie Irving.
- 22:03Speaker 2: And Luka is arguably the best player in the NFL. Now,
- 22:06Speaker 2: that year, if you remember, they won 50 games and
- 22:08Speaker 2: got to the finals because they beat the Nuggets and
- 22:11Speaker 2: the T-Wolves in the playoffs.
- 22:12Speaker 4: That is going to happen again this year. Maybe not,
- 22:15Speaker 4: but I'm willing to bet.
- 22:16Speaker 2: 13-1 on that. So, Paul....
- 22:18Speaker 4: In real time, you're going to be here for this.
- 22:20Speaker 3: You're making this bet?
- 22:21Speaker 4: I'm making this bet.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Is this legal? Can we do this?
- 22:23Speaker 2: We won't mention where I'm making the bet until they
- 22:26Speaker 2: sponsor us. But boom, Lakers to win the West, 13-1.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I am getting rid of my Thunder to win the
- 22:33Speaker 2: West pick and going with the L.A. Lakers.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Wow.
- 22:36Speaker 2: It sounds crazy, but it's really not that crazy.
- 22:38Speaker 5: You know, I like what you're doing here. OKC, I
- 22:40Speaker 5: think we'll right the ship because they have enough time
- 22:41Speaker 5: to get people together. But Luka has a team around
- 22:44Speaker 5: him where he does not have to share. It's centered
- 22:46Speaker 5: on him.
- 22:46Speaker 4: It's built around him.
- 22:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it's almost like having a Clint Capella five years ago,
- 22:50Speaker 5: a guy who's just there to rebound and clean up messes.
- 22:52Speaker 5: I'm a little salty that you didn't offer me 25%
- 22:53Speaker 5: of your bet. I would love to have chipped in
- 22:55Speaker 5: on that one.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I'm not putting that much money on it. 25%
- 22:58Speaker 4: of a $ 5 bet is not going to get you
- 22:59Speaker 4: too much.
- 23:00Speaker 2: But I do think the West is all of a
- 23:02Speaker 2: sudden much more interesting because the Thunder, I don't know
- 23:04Speaker 2: if they can right the ship. That's a lot of
- 23:06Speaker 2: players who are gone.
- 23:07Speaker 4: And Jalen Williams, without him last year, they missed him tremendously.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I feel like those two injuries kind of went under
- 23:11Speaker 2: the radar because people never really talk about the Thunder.
- 23:14Speaker 4: But that's a huge deal NBA-wise.
- 23:16Speaker 5: That was a very warm, warm take segment.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Borderline hot. Borderline scalding. Coming up next.
- 23:20Speaker 5: Jane Slater, our friend from NFL Network and ESPN, she
- 23:23Speaker 5: covers the Cowboys and the entire NFC East.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Can a team out of the NFC East actually make
- 23:27Speaker 3: the Super Bowl? Find out next. Pass and pro.
- 23:31Speaker 4: How about you?
- 23:32Speaker 3: Live betting on air.
- 23:33Speaker 7: Yeah, props.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Everything going on. There's a lot of moving parts.
- 23:35Speaker 7: Look at you.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Are we allowed to do that?
- 23:37Speaker 3: You just did.
- 23:38Speaker 4: I mean. Good for you.
- 23:39Speaker 2: 25% of a $ 5. 30. Welcome back to Not So Fast.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I'm Andrew Perloff. He's Paul Papps, NBC Sports Now and Peacock.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Breaking down the Cowboys' big win over the Eagles. And
- 23:53Speaker 2: who better to join us than ESPN NFL Network insider.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Our friend. Good friend of the show, Jane Slater. Jane,
- 24:00Speaker 2: how you doing? And is everything fixed in Cowboy land?
- 24:04Speaker 3: No.
- 24:05Speaker 8: You know, I said, unfortunately, and look, I know a
- 24:08Speaker 8: win is a win is a win in NFL, but
- 24:10Speaker 8: I put an asterisk next to this one. You know,
- 24:12Speaker 8: you had a backup quarterback. You had a, what, a
- 24:15Speaker 8: rookie center. You've got a second year right tackle. You know,
- 24:19Speaker 8: if you go down the list, it was a mass unit.
- 24:22Speaker 8: And look, I know injuries happen around the league, but yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 8: I mean, you saw something from offense. They finally gave
- 24:29Speaker 8: you that run pass balance that you've been looking for
- 24:31Speaker 8: off season, but yeah, I think a lot of us
- 24:33Speaker 8: were expecting that to be the least of their problems. They,
- 24:36Speaker 8: I mean, they had little to no personnel changes this season.
- 24:40Speaker 6: You had the same offensive coordinator, the.
- 24:42Speaker 8: Same play caller, and then, you know, defense that's just
- 24:46Speaker 8: continued to.
- 24:47Speaker 6: Be an Achilles heel.
- 24:48Speaker 2: So.
- 24:48Speaker 6: I don't know if last night said to anybody.
- 24:51Speaker 8: That they fixed things, but it was nice to at
- 24:54Speaker 8: least see the offense find their rhythm again because they're
- 24:57Speaker 8: going to need to score 35 or more in order
- 24:59Speaker 8: to have that shot.
- 25:00Speaker 6: At the NFC East that they still think that they're
- 25:02Speaker 6: capable of having.
- 25:03Speaker 5: You know, like Andrew said, it's a feel-good win. But
- 25:05Speaker 5: there was a point, and we knew you had you
- 25:07Speaker 5: booked on today's show. And I was thinking when they
- 25:09Speaker 5: were on that drive, when the Eagles were on that
- 25:12Speaker 5: drive to start the third quarter, like 17 plays, eight minutes,
- 25:15Speaker 5: and they scored and they took the lead. I started
- 25:17Speaker 5: thinking about Fallout. Can you put me just a hypothetical?
- 25:21Speaker 5: Let's say that game went.
- 25:22Speaker 3: The other way. What do you think we'd be talking
- 25:23Speaker 3: about in Dallas today?
- 25:25Speaker 8: You guys fans of Man in the High Castle, like
- 25:28Speaker 8: what would have happened if the Nazis had won and
- 25:30Speaker 8: not the Americans?
- 25:32Speaker 6: It would have felt nuclear around here, honestly.
- 25:34Speaker 8: And that's just because.
- 25:37Speaker 8: You know, when you listen, there's so many people that
- 25:40Speaker 8: talk during the week.
- 25:41Speaker 6: Cherry talks during the week. Shoddy talks during the week.
- 25:44Speaker 8: Last week, we heard from Clayton Adams and we heard
- 25:46Speaker 8: from Christian Parker and then.
- 25:47Speaker 6: Stephen Jones has his show.
- 25:50Speaker 8: As you're listening to these guys last week, it just
- 25:52Speaker 8: felt like everyone was pressing and looking for answers.
- 25:56Speaker 6: And then you even had.
- 25:57Speaker 8: Jerry, who is eternally optimistic, sort of pumping the brakes
- 26:01Speaker 8: and saying, well, by his own admission, maybe they expected
- 26:05Speaker 8: too much from a first-time DC. In his defense, if
- 26:10Speaker 8: you look at that side of the ball, there are
- 26:12Speaker 8: very few holdover names from last season.
- 26:16Speaker 6: Very few.
- 26:17Speaker 8: And then, like I said, you bring in a first-year DC,
- 26:19Speaker 8: and then most of that defensive staff is incredibly young.
- 26:22Speaker 6: And so when Jerry starts.
- 26:25Speaker 8: tap in the brakes a little bit, I think you
- 26:27Speaker 8: lose a little bit of confidence, right? But I think
- 26:29Speaker 8: it was more concerning that everyone started pointing to the
- 26:32Speaker 8: offense and saying, what's going on there? So if they
- 26:36Speaker 8: had given up that touchdown in the third quarter when
- 26:38Speaker 8: they came out of the half, I think things could
- 26:40Speaker 8: have gotten really, really ugly in Dallas. And it was
- 26:42Speaker 8: starting to feel like that Mike McCarthy, Mike Nolan year back.
- 26:46Speaker 6: In 2020 during COVID.
- 26:49Speaker 8: And that's when they wanted to move on from Mike Nolan,
- 26:52Speaker 8: promote George Edwards. I came out with the anonymous sources report,
- 26:56Speaker 8: which upset everybody in the building over that one. If
- 26:59Speaker 8: you've noticed, I've been very careful this time around with
- 27:02Speaker 8: this because, you know, look, there are always two sides
- 27:05Speaker 8: to every story and the truth is somewhere in between.
- 27:09Speaker 8: I think, if anything, this team, that win, at least
- 27:12Speaker 8: gave them the confidence that they needed as they moved.
- 27:16Speaker 6: Throughout this schedule.
- 27:17Speaker 8: But, I mean, if you watch that Giants game against
- 27:20Speaker 8: the Texans on Sunday, I don't know if I feel
- 27:24Speaker 8: as comfortable about the Cowboys going up against Harbaugh and
- 27:27Speaker 8: the way that team is playing if that's who they're
- 27:29Speaker 8: chasing in this division.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Jane, there was an interesting conversation on Dan Patrick's show
- 27:34Speaker 2: today about Dak Prescott. The question was, is he over-covered, overrated,
- 27:39Speaker 2: or other? I actually lean towards sometimes he's underrated because
- 27:43Speaker 2: he just gets so much attention. I don't know what
- 27:46Speaker 2: the reaction is locally to Dak, but last night we
- 27:48Speaker 2: saw a brilliant quarterback.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Where do you land on Dak Prescott and sort of
- 27:53Speaker 4: his reputation?
- 27:55Speaker 8: I think what hurts Dak Prescott sometimes is he is
- 27:58Speaker 8: also an eternal optimist. You know, from the time he
- 28:01Speaker 8: was a rookie, he was a powerful manifester and he
- 28:04Speaker 8: sees everything.
- 28:05Speaker 2: In front of him.
- 28:05Speaker 6: He's got the mental health coach.
- 28:06Speaker 8: He was one of the few that talked about that
- 28:09Speaker 8: early on in his career.
- 28:10Speaker 6: But you know how football is.
- 28:12Speaker 8: People get really, really frustrated when things aren't going their way.
- 28:15Speaker 8: But you never saw him necessarily get frustrated. The things
- 28:19Speaker 8: that I was hearing internally in the building had to
- 28:21Speaker 8: do more with the line of scrimmage. Some of the checks,
- 28:24Speaker 8: some of the protections. And I sort of pressed them
- 28:27Speaker 8: on some of that last week. And I don't know
- 28:30Speaker 8: if there was more flexibility for Dak at the line
- 28:34Speaker 8: of scrimmage, if he was checking out of plays more
- 28:37Speaker 8: so than he normally does.
- 28:39Speaker 6: It's something that I'm going to follow up on this week.
- 28:41Speaker 8: But it just sort of felt like he decided to
- 28:44Speaker 8: take the game over again. And you saw the ball
- 28:47Speaker 8: get to George Pickens. And why don't you throw to
- 28:49Speaker 8: George Pickens? I think there was one case. I was
- 28:52Speaker 8: looking at this one. Where was it? I wrote this
- 28:53Speaker 8: down for you guys today. Because I just thought.
- 28:55Speaker 6: This is George Pickens in a nutshell.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Where is it?
- 28:59Speaker 6: It's talking about the first.
- 29:01Speaker 5: Like you mentioned, right before the game started, Dak Prescott
- 29:04Speaker 5: was asked about the game. He said, we're going to
- 29:06Speaker 5: get into George early, like 30 seconds before kickoff.
- 29:08Speaker 3: He talked about that.
- 29:09Speaker 6: Yeah, well, look at this.
- 29:10Speaker 8: It was at third and three, the 21-yard touchdown pass
- 29:13Speaker 8: to Pickens. 14.9% completion probability, according to NextGenStats. They called
- 29:19Speaker 8: it the most improbable completion of his career and third
- 29:23Speaker 8: most improbable of Prescott's.
- 29:24Speaker 6: Prescott Pickens was 0.2.
- 29:25Speaker 8: Yards from the sideline. My point in saying that is
- 29:28Speaker 8: I go back to the Baltimore game. Now, if you
- 29:30Speaker 8: look at the Baltimore game, when Dak threw it, George
- 29:34Speaker 8: had not quite gotten released yet, right? But my argument
- 29:37Speaker 8: sometime is don't be afraid of throwing the football. Dak
- 29:41Speaker 8: has shown you that he can get the ball out
- 29:43Speaker 8: there and George has shown you that he can come
- 29:44Speaker 8: down with it.
- 29:45Speaker 6: And so I think.
- 29:46Speaker 8: Sometimes maybe they were playing a little bit too conservative.
- 29:48Speaker 8: And some of that happens when you fill behind the
- 29:50Speaker 8: eight ball. You find yourself in these third and longs,
- 29:54Speaker 8: and you don't have your run game established. And so
- 29:56Speaker 8: they seemingly were able to put some of that stuff
- 29:58Speaker 8: together last night. But again, I put an asterisk next
- 30:01Speaker 8: to it because how good is that offense next to
- 30:04Speaker 8: what the defense from the Eagles rolled out there?
- 30:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 30:07Speaker 5: All right, Jane, you covered the entire NFC East, and
- 30:10Speaker 5: it's been a wonky year. Philly feels like it's a
- 30:12Speaker 5: lost year. The commander's up and down, more down than up.
- 30:16Speaker 5: And this weird situation we have with the Giants where
- 30:18Speaker 5: no one really believes in them, but it might not matter.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Is there a team, including the Cowboys, which team could
- 30:24Speaker 5: you picture in the NFC title game, if any?
- 30:28Speaker 8: You know, it gets uncomfortable around here because you heard
- 30:32Speaker 8: Schottenheimer at a four-minute postgame presser last night, which is
- 30:36Speaker 8: not like Schotty.
- 30:38Speaker 6: You know, it's like you've got to balance it. I'm
- 30:40Speaker 6: a Texas fan. It's like Arch, right?
- 30:42Speaker 8: Sometimes Arch says too much, and then the media says
- 30:45Speaker 8: he's saying too much, and then he shuts down on you,
- 30:47Speaker 8: and you don't want that as a reporter.
- 30:49Speaker 6: But, you know, there was some argument to be.
- 30:51Speaker 8: Made last week that maybe Shoddy says too much. He
- 30:55Speaker 8: offers up too much information as it relates to this team.
- 30:59Speaker 6: That's not John Harbaugh.
- 31:01Speaker 8: And John Harbaugh, the way that he's approached things, the
- 31:03Speaker 8: way that he, you know, sent Najee Harris out of here...
- 31:07Speaker 8: Cam Scadabo, he was pretty tough on him in the press.
- 31:11Speaker 8: He can get away with that because he's won some
- 31:14Speaker 8: of the big games. And I think the hard part
- 31:16Speaker 8: for Shoddy last week was he was calling out George
- 31:18Speaker 8: Pickens and he was.
- 31:20Speaker 6: 9-13-1 while he was doing it. And so if you're.
- 31:22Speaker 8: Asking me, I say all that to say, if you
- 31:26Speaker 8: put me on the spot right now, I feel more
- 31:27Speaker 8: confident in John Harbaugh and what he's building in New York.
- 31:30Speaker 8: And that's, and that's not me saying that Shadi can't
- 31:33Speaker 8: get there one day. It's just, this is Shadi's second
- 31:36Speaker 8: year as a head coach. And I still think he's
- 31:40Speaker 8: sort of finding his cadence, his rhythm.
- 31:43Speaker 6: What makes sense.
- 31:43Speaker 8: And if you're a guy in a locker room or
- 31:45Speaker 8: if you guys, you know, you've been in newsrooms before,
- 31:48Speaker 8: you typically are looking to leaders who has at least
- 31:51Speaker 8: some skin on the wall. And I just, I think
- 31:53Speaker 8: that's what sometimes is lacking for Shottie, even though all
- 31:56Speaker 8: of us enjoy covering him. I know the guys like
- 31:58Speaker 8: playing for him. I know they like, you know, dealing
- 32:01Speaker 8: with him away from the facility. But sometimes I think
- 32:03Speaker 8: it takes more than that, especially in a tight division
- 32:06Speaker 8: going up against a guy like Carball.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Jane, are your friends aware you're saying the Giants are
- 32:10Speaker 2: going to beat the Cowboys?
- 32:11Speaker 4: Or could beat them?
- 32:12Speaker 3: They're watching the show now.
- 32:14Speaker 8: Listen, growing up here in the Dallas area, I'm probably
- 32:18Speaker 8: not as hard on them right now as even a
- 32:21Speaker 8: lot of the fans are. The text messages I get
- 32:23Speaker 8: from my dad are just absolutely wild and insane.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Jane, last question for me. Do you expect the Cowboys
- 32:29Speaker 2: to make any move at the trade deadline, or are
- 32:30Speaker 2: they going to stand back?
- 32:32Speaker 6: Yes, I think they will.
- 32:33Speaker 8: And I think that's because, here's the one thing I'll
- 32:35Speaker 8: say about Jerry. You know, for the last couple of years,
- 32:38Speaker 8: we said, you know, the definition of insanity is doing
- 32:40Speaker 8: the same thing over and over and expecting the same results. Well,
- 32:43Speaker 8: this offseason, Jerry was very active going out and getting
- 32:48Speaker 8: you players. Went out, got you the George Pickens. He
- 32:50Speaker 8: got you the Quinnen Williams. He got you Jalen Thompson.
- 32:53Speaker 8: He traded away guys that, at the time, they didn't
- 32:56Speaker 8: think fit the scheme, like Ose and Digizua.
- 32:58Speaker 6: Right.
- 32:58Speaker 8: And then, you know, he allowed Shawty to bring in
- 33:01Speaker 8: a first. I mean, I never thought I'd see Jerry
- 33:03Speaker 8: bring in a young first time D.C.
- 33:06Speaker 6: Into Dallas.
- 33:06Speaker 8: And then we're hearing him talk about bringing Troy Aikman
- 33:09Speaker 8: in at some point, which I'm.
- 33:11Speaker 6: Like, pigs are flying around here in Dallas.
- 33:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:14Speaker 6: If you guys know the lore between those two.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:16Speaker 8: And so I think he just, at 84 years old,
- 33:18Speaker 8: I think he truly.
- 33:19Speaker 6: Is all in. And I think he sees still.
- 33:22Speaker 8: Disparity despite the two-game lead by the Giants. And I
- 33:25Speaker 8: think he thinks that if he can just get that
- 33:27Speaker 8: pass rush going.
- 33:28Speaker 6: They had two sacks last night.
- 33:30Speaker 8: You know, it's like he had the interception from DeMar
- 33:33Speaker 8: Viett overshowed. The wheels are turning for Jerry, and I
- 33:36Speaker 8: think it will be impossible for.
- 33:37Speaker 6: Him not to make a move.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Jane, so much to talk about the Cowboys. We have
- 33:40Speaker 2: to have you back. I mean, it seems like every
- 33:42Speaker 2: week is another thing.
- 33:43Speaker 4: Great to see you, and thanks.
- 33:44Speaker 2: For the time.
- 33:46Speaker 8: Thank you guys for always being in my corner when
- 33:48Speaker 8: no one else cared.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 33:49Speaker 6: Always.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Thanks, Jane.
- 33:51Speaker 5: That's really interesting because, you know, that long history of
- 33:54Speaker 5: Troy Aikman. and he wants to work in football in
- 33:57Speaker 5: some fashion.
- 33:58Speaker 3: He might be available to work in football in some fashion.
- 34:00Speaker 3: We've got to talk more about this one.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Well, Jay said it, 84.
- 34:03Speaker 4: I mean, how much time?
- 34:04Speaker 2: I don't care if Troy Aikman is going to be there.
- 34:06Speaker 2: You've got to build this roster fast. You're not going
- 34:08Speaker 2: to do a rebuild. I don't know if Troy Aikman
- 34:09Speaker 2: is going to make an impact.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Well, let's tease this. Let's talk about this in a
- 34:13Speaker 3: little bit. There's a lot more to this one.
- 34:14Speaker 2: All right, coming up next, we're going to go to
- 34:16Speaker 2: the clip joint. We've got Ed Werner on the Cowboys,
- 34:19Speaker 2: and we also have a very interesting quote from David
- 34:21Speaker 2: Ortiz on the World Series. Coming up next, not so fast.
- 34:25Speaker 3: By the way, I want to work out whatever Troy
- 34:26Speaker 3: Aikman's doing. We got to start doing that.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Troy's always ripped.
- 34:29Speaker 3: But he's more ripped.
- 34:31Speaker 2: No, his post-playing career is ridiculously fitness-wise.
- 34:40Speaker 1: The Troy Aikman situation with the mothership, and I didn't
- 34:45Speaker 1: know there was that much of a fallout with Troy
- 34:48Speaker 1: and Jerry Jones. How did that come about that these
- 34:52Speaker 1: two kind of went their separate ways?
- 34:55Speaker 9: Well, Dan, you and I know that ESPN never lets
- 34:58Speaker 9: valuable people leave the company. So it's quite surprising to
- 35:03Speaker 9: both of us, I think, that Troy Aikman's not returning
- 35:06Speaker 9: on an extension and going to be Joe Buck's partner
- 35:09Speaker 9: after this 25 years they've had together. You know, Troy
- 35:12Speaker 9: really values loyalty. And I don't think he feels like
- 35:17Speaker 9: that's been in existence in this partnership this year, either
- 35:21Speaker 9: with the company or with Joe Buck. And so I could,
- 35:24Speaker 9: it certainly seems to me like they've already decided they're
- 35:27Speaker 9: moving on from Troy Aikman. And whether there's a place
- 35:30Speaker 9: for Troy in broadcasting, I don't know.
- 35:33Speaker 1: There should be.
- 35:34Speaker 9: To me, he's the best there is still.
- 35:38Speaker 5: Back on Not So Fast, Paxton Perloff, this is a
- 35:40Speaker 5: clip joint. Now, the backstory, that's Ed Werder, longtime Mothership reporter.
- 35:45Speaker 5: Talk about Troy Aikman and Troy Aikman's future as a
- 35:47Speaker 5: broadcaster and as a cowboy worker.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Which one's more interesting to you?
- 35:50Speaker 8: Broadcaster.
- 35:51Speaker 4: Broadcaster.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I was watching last night, and I was very fascinated
- 35:58Speaker 2: with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Their chemistry seemed good
- 36:01Speaker 2: on air. I don't notice anything. But the other thing, too,
- 36:04Speaker 2: is they're very good. To break them up, as all
- 36:06Speaker 2: the reports indicate, is crazy to me.
- 36:08Speaker 5: Look, I don't want to get too inside baseball here
- 36:10Speaker 5: because I'm not sure people care, but I think ESPN
- 36:12Speaker 5: has made their decision on Troy Aikman, and that's why
- 36:14Speaker 5: they went down this road. I think they knew they're
- 36:16Speaker 5: going to take heat for this on some level, but
- 36:18Speaker 5: they may want to get maybe younger, maybe cheaper at
- 36:21Speaker 5: that analyst position, and they could do both. I think
- 36:23Speaker 5: Troy Aikman's great, but I don't pay the checks at ESPN.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Well, you say nobody cares because it's inside baseball. I
- 36:29Speaker 2: normally agree with you on media stories. I think this
- 36:32Speaker 2: one is huge.
- 36:33Speaker 4: You're right, Mike.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Because not just because of what's happening now, they're doing
- 36:35Speaker 2: the Super Bowl together. If you watch ESPN, they commercialize
- 36:38Speaker 2: every day. You're telling me that Troy Aikman's going to
- 36:40Speaker 2: be a free agent in that week leading up to
- 36:42Speaker 2: the Super Bowl? That will be a massive story.
- 36:44Speaker 5: I would say that if they weren't having that as
- 36:46Speaker 5: their plan, they would have addressed this with Troy before
- 36:49Speaker 5: they gave his partner the contract. They wouldn't let him
- 36:51Speaker 5: find out third party, fourth party. So look, I think
- 36:55Speaker 5: Trey Aikman's in this weird position where it's almost like
- 36:57Speaker 5: being a veteran quarterback and they bring in a younger
- 36:59Speaker 5: version of you that's younger and cheaper. That happens in football.
- 37:02Speaker 5: That may happen in broadcasting. What I think is a
- 37:05Speaker 5: bigger picture for me is why have the Cowboys never
- 37:07Speaker 5: engaged Trey Aikman to be a consultant, a president of
- 37:10Speaker 5: team operations, some type of thing? Clearly he wants to.
- 37:14Speaker 5: And I know he's loyal to Jimmy Johnson, but he's
- 37:16Speaker 5: a Cowboys legend. The Broncos ask John Elway. Whether it
- 37:18Speaker 5: works out or not, you ask at some point.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Well, what's different? What's different?
- 37:21Speaker 2: Jerry Jones doesn't want anyone in the building who's going
- 37:23Speaker 2: to challenge his authority or get credit when the Cowboys
- 37:26Speaker 2: do well. Who's ever been in the building that's made
- 37:29Speaker 2: a difference?
- 37:29Speaker 5: Which is an entire reason the Cowboys have trouble winning
- 37:32Speaker 5: is that they don't have a traditional NFL structure of
- 37:34Speaker 5: a general manager that has some level of autonomy.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Well, there was this old narrative that he hired Bill
- 37:39Speaker 2: Parcells once because he needed a few wins to get
- 37:41Speaker 2: a new stadium built. And then that experiment went so
- 37:44Speaker 2: badly for Jerry and his ego.
- 37:46Speaker 4: That he said, never, ever again.
- 37:48Speaker 2: And since then, he's gone to the Chan Gailey's of
- 37:50Speaker 2: the world and Brian Schottenheimer. Yeah, and he also doesn't
- 37:53Speaker 2: like to pay a lot for assistant coaches. He's not
- 37:56Speaker 2: a guy who likes a well-run building necessarily. He likes
- 37:58Speaker 2: to run everything.
- 37:59Speaker 5: All right, earlier today, David Ortiz, Big Papi from the
- 38:02Speaker 5: Red Sox, remember him? He was on the Dan Patrick Show. Now,
- 38:04Speaker 5: he was down 3-0 in 0-4, ALCS.
- 38:07Speaker 3: To the Yankees. So he's been there.
- 38:09Speaker 5: Dan asked Big Papi what he would say to the
- 38:11Speaker 5: Rays about the hole that they're in.
- 38:14Speaker 7: Hey, listen, when you are in all-in-three, there's no pet
- 38:17Speaker 7: talk that can really resolve any problem. Like, when we
- 38:22Speaker 7: were in a situation, it was no pet talk. The
- 38:25Speaker 7: pet talk started once, you know, we won the first
- 38:30Speaker 7: couple of games. Then you start feeling your mojo is
- 38:33Speaker 7: back and this and that, but... Tampa is in a
- 38:37Speaker 7: very tough spot right now. Because they had to play
- 38:40Speaker 7: the bullpen game today, and the Brewer bullpen is.
- 38:46Speaker 7: They are tough.
- 38:48Speaker 2: That's not how it works out in the movies, Paul.
- 38:50Speaker 2: I figure when the Red Sox were down 3-0, Kevin
- 38:52Speaker 2: Millar got up there and gave an incredible speech.
- 38:55Speaker 3: No, I was at... I worked with Dan Patrick.
- 38:57Speaker 5: Dan Patrick and I were at every single game of
- 38:59Speaker 5: that 2004 ALCS. When the Yankees took the 3-0 lead,
- 39:02Speaker 5: they were starting to pack up. Like, they were talking
- 39:04Speaker 5: about the offseason. The media in Boston was like, this
- 39:07Speaker 5: is an embarrassment what this team does. That game that
- 39:09Speaker 5: they won in Game 4 of the 0-4 ALCS, everyone
- 39:12Speaker 5: was like, oh, now they gave us false hope.
- 39:14Speaker 3: And then they went on to win it.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Unbelievable.
- 39:17Speaker 2: To me, though, that could have been a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And Big Papi sort of made me even feel worse
- 39:22Speaker 2: for the Rays.
- 39:22Speaker 3: Yes.
- 39:23Speaker 4: He's been there, and I don't think he sees it
- 39:25Speaker 4: coming this year.
- 39:26Speaker 5: They don't have that level of talent that the 04
- 39:28Speaker 5: ALCS Red Sox had.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Yeah, okay.
- 39:31Speaker 2: By the way, we're getting word there's a big NFL
- 39:32Speaker 2: trade that we'll get into in a second. First, let's
- 39:35Speaker 2: play the Clint Kubiak sound. Now, the Raiders coach talked
- 39:39Speaker 2: about Fernando Mendoza and whether it's time for him to
- 39:41Speaker 2: take over for Kirk Cousins now, or do they stick
- 39:44Speaker 2: with the veteran?
- 39:45Speaker 10: I want to let you guys know, that Kirk is
- 39:50Speaker 10: our starting quarterback. There is no controversy there. He's playing
- 39:52Speaker 10: at a very high level, and he's got to continue
- 39:55Speaker 10: to do that for us to win, and we've got
- 39:57Speaker 10: to keep helping all the areas around him. So I'm
- 40:02Speaker 10: excited for him to go play here against the Jets.
- 40:06Speaker 5: Before we get to the trade in the NFL that
- 40:08Speaker 5: we're just getting news on right now, I think I
- 40:10Speaker 5: like what Clint Kubiak is doing. I think as a
- 40:13Speaker 5: franchise that their plan this year was to really try
- 40:16Speaker 5: to sit Mendoza for the season and be disciplined about it,
- 40:18Speaker 5: almost like Mahomes his first year, I applaud them for
- 40:21Speaker 5: sticking to it, not being reactionary and reacting to a
- 40:24Speaker 5: little dip in the schedule. Because Cousins isn't playing poorly.
- 40:27Speaker 5: They're just not winning. So I commend them if they're
- 40:29Speaker 5: sticking with their big plan.
- 40:30Speaker 2: So you're not saying that Kirk Cousins is going to
- 40:32Speaker 2: lead them to the playoffs.
- 40:34Speaker 4: This is more about letting Mendoza learn from the bench.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:37Speaker 5: And I think what they're doing there is saying, okay,
- 40:40Speaker 5: if we put Mendoza in now, you can't bench him.
- 40:43Speaker 5: So you put him in. You're really saying this season
- 40:46Speaker 5: is just a warm-up for next year.
- 40:48Speaker 3: They're not at that point.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Now, while the Jets game makes a lot of sense
- 40:51Speaker 5: for this transition, because if Kirk Cousins plays well this weekend,
- 40:54Speaker 5: now you kick that can at least another month.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I've heard this and I kind of agree
- 40:59Speaker 2: with this.
- 40:59Speaker 4: Next up are Niners and Seahawks.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Like you said, if they play Mendoza now and he
- 41:04Speaker 2: struggles against the Seahawks, then you might have to bench him.
- 41:07Speaker 2: I would wait more, but there's nothing to gain from it.
- 41:09Speaker 2: They're not going to play us with either quarterback.
- 41:10Speaker 5: Before we break, the NFL trade deadline is coming up.
- 41:12Speaker 5: We're hearing there's a trade.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Not your Eagles, but.
- 41:15Speaker 2: But, okay, we got the Seahawks are now acquiring left
- 41:19Speaker 2: guard Quentin Nelson from the Colts for, I'm hearing now,
- 41:22Speaker 2: a third round and a fifth round.
- 41:24Speaker 4: We'll double-check that compensation.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Now, Quentin Nelson is traditionally the best guard in the NFL.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Yeah, he's a first ballot Hall of Famer. He's played
- 41:31Speaker 5: nothing but perfect out of Notre Dame. They got everything
- 41:33Speaker 5: out of him. He's still very expensive. This is a
- 41:36Speaker 5: Colts saying, hey, we're not doing anything with this guy.
- 41:38Speaker 5: Give him a chance to play elsewhere. And this is
- 41:40Speaker 5: a Seahawks team. You can't acquire another running back, but
- 41:43Speaker 5: you could help the running backs you have.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Absolutely. Well, you could acquire another running back. As an
- 41:47Speaker 4: Eagles fan, I'll give you Saquon.
- 41:49Speaker 3: They should ask for Jonathan Taylor as well.
- 41:50Speaker 4: Yeah, Jonathan Taylor has been linked to them. So here's
- 41:53Speaker 4: the issue, though.
- 41:54Speaker 2: If you are Indianapolis, what are you tanking for? Your
- 41:57Speaker 2: pick is in New York because of Sauce Gardner. So
- 42:00Speaker 2: it's a very interesting situation. I think that's why they
- 42:02Speaker 2: want to get some picks back. But this is not
- 42:04Speaker 2: a first-round pick. I'm actually surprised. I would have thought
- 42:06Speaker 2: the compensation.
- 42:07Speaker 4: Would be more.
- 42:07Speaker 5: Yeah, you're trying to fix a mess because the Sauce Gardner,
- 42:09Speaker 5: you gave up way too much for Sauce because you're
- 42:11Speaker 5: trying to win last year. I think this is a, hey,
- 42:14Speaker 5: let's not kid each other. We're not competitive now. We're
- 42:16Speaker 5: probably not going to be competitive next year.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but if they tank and they lose out, Paul,
- 42:20Speaker 2: it's going to be very depressing to watch the Jets
- 42:22Speaker 2: make their pick. I'm hearing also our producer Scott says
- 42:25Speaker 2: that it's a rental.
- 42:26Speaker 4: Because he's a free agent at the end of the year.
- 42:27Speaker 4: But he's a great player.
- 42:28Speaker 5: Oh, that's a great rental. The Seahawks are just trying
- 42:31Speaker 5: to win another Super Bowl this year. They don't think
- 42:32Speaker 5: about the future. The future is now.
- 42:34Speaker 2: And it's funny that that offensive line, which was great
- 42:36Speaker 2: last year, has struggled a little bit this year.
- 42:38Speaker 4: So that's an impactful trade.
- 42:39Speaker 3: All right, coming up next, constructive criticism. And you love it.
- 42:43Speaker 4: We do it every week.
- 42:44Speaker 5: Done or done done with NFL teams and maybe a
- 42:46Speaker 5: baseball team.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Stick around. Not so fast. I love breaking news.
- 42:51Speaker 4: Oh, so fun.
- 42:52Speaker 3: I love when you got it and I had to
- 42:54Speaker 3: wait to hear from you.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Don't you think that conversation is a little lower than
- 42:57Speaker 2: you would have thought? Quentin Nelson's awesome. All right, welcome
- 43:03Speaker 2: back to Not So Fast, Perloff and Paps.
- 43:05Speaker 4: We're breaking down the trade news.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson, the all-world guard from Indianapolis, is going to
- 43:10Speaker 2: Seattle for a third and a fifth. Now, Nelson's 30
- 43:13Speaker 2: years old. They have to pay him at the end
- 43:16Speaker 2: of the year. Eight-time Pro Bowler. I still think this
- 43:19Speaker 2: is a little low on the compensation side, but I
- 43:21Speaker 2: guess the money and the A's have a big factor
- 43:23Speaker 2: in this.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Listen to this, Paul.
- 43:24Speaker 2: The Seahawks were 21st in pass protection in the league
- 43:29Speaker 2: and 27th, according to the analytics, in run blocking.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Last year, it was all about the run blocking. This year,
- 43:33Speaker 4: it hasn't been there.
- 43:34Speaker 3: I love this from the Seahawks' side.
- 43:35Speaker 5: You're taking advantage of a desperate team in the Colts
- 43:38Speaker 5: that gave up draft capital and trying to get it back.
- 43:40Speaker 3: You kind of stole Quentin Nelson.
- 43:41Speaker 5: You offer him a two- or three-year contract right now
- 43:44Speaker 5: and get the back half of his prime.
- 43:46Speaker 2: You.
- 43:46Speaker 5: Completely, you know, a third and a fifth, that doesn't
- 43:49Speaker 5: help the Seahawks in their quest to win another Super Bowl.
- 43:51Speaker 5: This guy helps you right now, this week, starting this week.
- 43:54Speaker 2: And you've got to wonder, too, does this mean Jonathan Taylor,
- 43:56Speaker 2: the running back from Indianapolis, is for sale?
- 43:58Speaker 4: I would imagine so.
- 43:59Speaker 3: You would have to because you don't do one without
- 44:01Speaker 3: the other.
- 44:01Speaker 5: If you're going to hold on to Jonathan Taylor out
- 44:03Speaker 5: of nostalgia because he was such a great player for you,
- 44:05Speaker 5: Quentin Nelson's first ballot.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Yeah, Quentin Nelson's great.
- 44:08Speaker 2: And, you know, guard play is more important than ever.
- 44:10Speaker 4: That's what the guy, experts say. That's what they say.
- 44:12Speaker 7: Okay.
- 44:12Speaker 2: All right, let's do a segment here we call Done Done.
- 44:16Speaker 3: Right, not just one done. It's got to be two done.
- 44:18Speaker 4: Yeah, well, you know it when a team is done done.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Okay, after week five, Paul and I have declared the Cardinals,
- 44:23Speaker 2: the Dolphins, the Titans, the Chargers, and the Jets as
- 44:26Speaker 2: done done. Right. Now we have to look at the
- 44:28Speaker 2: teams in purgatory, the Eagles and the Saints.
- 44:31Speaker 4: Paul, I'll let you take it.
- 44:32Speaker 5: I'm going to pause on the Eagles, and they're so
- 44:35Speaker 5: close to done because this season is clearly not going
- 44:37Speaker 5: to work out, and they're not going to do anything.
- 44:39Speaker 5: But that division is so wonky, and Tanner McKee could
- 44:42Speaker 5: go on a little bit of a run. I think
- 44:43Speaker 5: I'm being hopeful. I'm going to give them another week
- 44:45Speaker 5: in purgatory, which doesn't sound so great. But with this game,
- 44:48Speaker 5: it actually is a good thing.
- 44:49Speaker 4: I'm going triple done on the Eagles.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Wow.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Beyond undone.
- 44:52Speaker 2: The second that Saquon Barkley made that big run and
- 44:54Speaker 2: grabbed for his hamstring last night, I said this season
- 44:57Speaker 2: is over. They're going to have to rest Saquon Barkley.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Triple dog there.
- 45:01Speaker 4: And it's not their fault. It's just health. What about
- 45:02Speaker 4: the Saints? Because the Saints look bad.
- 45:04Speaker 2: They could have come back and won that game against
- 45:06Speaker 2: the Steelers, but I can't put anyone in the NFC
- 45:09Speaker 2: South as done done. Yes.
- 45:10Speaker 5: That whole division, you're not done done until late December.
- 45:13Speaker 3: So Saints are okay.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 45:14Speaker 5: How about the Houston Texans? They started to come back,
- 45:17Speaker 5: and then they lost last week.
- 45:20Speaker 4: Two and five, it's bad, bad.
- 45:21Speaker 2: But I am not going to say done, done, because
- 45:24Speaker 2: they did this last year. They came back from a
- 45:26Speaker 2: hole and made the playoffs. They still are so talented.
- 45:28Speaker 2: How you lose to New York at home, I don't understand.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Should have won the game.
- 45:32Speaker 4: C.J.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Stroud is still putting up some good football. I think
- 45:35Speaker 2: the defense comes around. I'm not optimistic, but I'm not
- 45:38Speaker 2: saying done, done.
- 45:39Speaker 5: They're not done, done, but they're super weird in the
- 45:42Speaker 5: fact that they were supposed to have the best defense
- 45:43Speaker 5: in football, and they haven't had one great game on
- 45:46Speaker 5: defense yet. You know, like, I know the Titans, but
- 45:49Speaker 5: that doesn't really count.
- 45:50Speaker 3: That's a hall pass. So, no.
- 45:52Speaker 5: How about, let's go with the, now let's go to
- 45:53Speaker 5: the Raiders. Raiders started pretty good. Big losing streak. They're
- 45:57Speaker 5: going to stay with the Cousins. You can't Dun Dun them,
- 45:59Speaker 5: can you?
- 46:00Speaker 4: Dun Dun.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Dun Dun.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Raiders aren't going anywhere. What are we doing here?
- 46:04Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, listen, they're already going to be boxed
- 46:06Speaker 2: out by the Chiefs and the Broncos and the AFC West.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Then you've got all these AFC North teams who are
- 46:11Speaker 2: playing the NFC South and getting nothing but wins. You're
- 46:14Speaker 2: telling me they're going to knock off Cincinnati or Baltimore? No.
- 46:17Speaker 5: I'm going to give them a purgatory one week because
- 46:20Speaker 5: I like Kirk Cousins and his shopping tendencies.
- 46:21Speaker 4: I'm a little more aggressive on these dun-duns. I'm giving dun-dun.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Last one, the Commanders.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Yeah, this is tricky. They play the Eagles next. Ah, boy,
- 46:31Speaker 2: that is the same issue with the division.
- 46:33Speaker 3: They could be a done-done team, but their division keeps
- 46:36Speaker 3: them alive.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Nah, I'm going done-done. I do not see the commanders
- 46:39Speaker 2: pulling together. They're old and injury and Jaden Daniels. And
- 46:43Speaker 2: the biggest problem with Dan Quinn's team, obviously, is situational football.
- 46:46Speaker 2: You think of the Belichick and the Patriots as situational football,
- 46:49Speaker 2: the exact opposite is the commanders right now.
- 46:52Speaker 4: And they're just not talented enough to make up for
- 46:54Speaker 4: mistakes like that.
- 46:54Speaker 2: You know what?
- 46:55Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Yeah, they're done-done.
- 46:57Speaker 5: No offense, nothing personal. They sure seem like nice people.
- 47:00Speaker 5: They're just not good at playing football, and that's really
- 47:02Speaker 5: what you have to do in this league is play
- 47:03Speaker 5: football better, and we'll get your comments on the air, good, bad,
- 47:06Speaker 5: or ugly.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Here we go, Pearl. First one.
- 47:09Speaker 5: Rank your top five or ten NFL broadcast announcers.
- 47:12Speaker 3: I need a month for this.
- 47:16Speaker 5: Off the top of my head, I grew up loving
- 47:18Speaker 5: Brent Musburger, and when I was a kid to see
- 47:20Speaker 5: him on NFL Today, he let off my weekend. Then
- 47:23Speaker 5: Brent was college football. I've gotten to meet Brent. He's
- 47:25Speaker 5: one of my heroes in the business, and he's a
- 47:27Speaker 5: great guy.
- 47:27Speaker 4: He's the king.
- 47:28Speaker 2: I mean, can we go historical? Does Matt and Summerall?
- 47:31Speaker 3: Sure.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Because, listen, we know some of these broadcasters. I don't
- 47:35Speaker 2: want to say anything bad about any of them, but
- 47:37Speaker 2: I'm going classic. Matt and Summerall for me, when Summerall
- 47:40Speaker 2: would go, and tonight on Murder, She Wrote, I immediately, oh,
- 47:44Speaker 2: I have so much homework to do. It brings back
- 47:46Speaker 2: a lot of memories. And I do think there's so
- 47:47Speaker 2: many good announcers right now. We're friends.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Your buddy, J.J. Watt, our friend, Ross Tucker.
- 47:52Speaker 3: We may have to do this in the offseason, really
- 47:54Speaker 3: deep dive.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there are a lot of good announcers
- 47:57Speaker 2: right now. And I got to tell you, on the news,
- 47:59Speaker 2: I do like Troy Aikman and Joe Buck. They're very
- 48:01Speaker 2: good together. And Chris Collinsworth is on fire right now.
- 48:04Speaker 2: He's predicting calls like there's no tomorrow.
- 48:06Speaker 5: I never got upset on Sunday nights because I didn't
- 48:07Speaker 5: do homework. All right, next one, constructor criticism. Since every
- 48:10Speaker 5: part of the center is under the quarterback, shouldn't be
- 48:13Speaker 5: said that the quarterback is over center.
- 48:17Speaker 2: But aren't his hands below the most important part?
- 48:21Speaker 3: Yeah, the nether region.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Yeah, he's not under. If he was over, he wouldn't
- 48:25Speaker 4: get the football.
- 48:26Speaker 3: He'd have to be like this to be under center,
- 48:27Speaker 3: like that.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:30Speaker 3: I'm going to stick with it. I know what the
- 48:31Speaker 3: point is. Semantics, I see what he's saying.
- 48:34Speaker 4: Yeah, because he's standing over him.
- 48:35Speaker 2: But the most important exchange is the, well, I don't
- 48:39Speaker 2: want to get too graphic.
- 48:39Speaker 5: We'll have to chop that up a little more after
- 48:41Speaker 5: the show.
- 48:41Speaker 3: Good question, though. Keep them coming. It's time for the
- 48:43Speaker 3: feel-good here. We're going to go back to the ballpark.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Check this out.
- 48:48Speaker 5: Braves reliever Brandon Woodruff. He's been injured most of the season.
- 48:53Speaker 5: Nice 10-1 lead. Let's bring him back in. Let him
- 48:55Speaker 5: get some run with his shoulder issues. He gets it done.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Very nice.
- 49:00Speaker 5: Celebrating with his family back in Tampa where he started
- 49:02Speaker 5: his career.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Look at that kid. He's going to Starbucks.
- 49:07Speaker 4: Oh, is that another one in the baby carriage?
- 49:10Speaker 2: Aw.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Look at that guy trying to hijack the moment in
- 49:12Speaker 3: the background.
- 49:12Speaker 2: It's still not as good as Justin Verlander when his
- 49:14Speaker 2: daughter ran out, but it's good.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Sure was.
- 49:16Speaker 4: All right.
- 49:16Speaker 5: Tune in tomorrow to Us Not So Fast right after
- 49:19Speaker 5: the Dan Patch Show. But make sure you tune in
- 49:20Speaker 5: to the Dan Patch Show tomorrow. Charles Barkley and Steve
- 49:23Speaker 5: Young on the show.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Tune in. Then come hang with us. Enjoy the baseball tonight,
- 49:28Speaker 3: Brewers fans.
