Transcript
- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie? Hi, I'm Tony.
- 0:14I'm. Going to watch your least
- 0:17favorite scary movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:20the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd and all of our
- 0:23favorite. And least favorite?
- 0:24Scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:26movie rightfully has its fan base.
- 0:28Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:31My name is Jesse. And welcome back to our
- 0:33franchise coverage this month, everybody.
- 0:36We're back with Child's play. Yeah, going back to Chucky.
- 0:40So yeah, we got a lot in store for y'all.
- 0:44Ready to have a lot of fun? First I get a couple quick
- 0:46announcements. One is that To Be or Not came
- 0:48out this past Sunday. We covered Cruel World, a
- 0:52reality TV based horror movie. Yeah, that was a lot of fun.
- 0:56We talked a lot more about it than we expected to, but it was
- 0:59all good. It's.
- 1:01A fun time it's. A fucking chaotic episode, I
- 1:04will say that much. We we had some fun.
- 1:07Yes, we had our fun. We enjoyed it a lot, and we're
- 1:10here excited to talk about Child's Play too, a very
- 1:13competently made movie which we have fun with in a very
- 1:19different kind of way. It's yeah, entirely different
- 1:22type of fun, that is for sure. Also, to announce patrons budget
- 1:27to your patrons, I need you to do a couple of things.
- 1:30One, be on the lookout on your feed for the August patron vote.
- 1:36And if you want to be a patron that can vote, you just got to
- 1:39go join our budget to your Patreon, OK?
- 1:41It's $6 a month if you want to have voting power, if you want
- 1:44to get bonus episodes, that's all it takes.
- 1:47And then you get a shout out at the end of the episode and you
- 1:49get a cool sticker every month. Yeah, so we've got that coming.
- 1:53And we're also going to have our bonus episode out soon.
- 1:55We think we know what we want to do, but we got to make sure it
- 1:58works first. Yeah, that's true.
- 2:00We're we're going to try a thing and if it doesn't work, we'll
- 2:04have to regroup very quickly. But that's we, we think we know
- 2:07what we want to do. So that's going to be coming out
- 2:09sometime soon. So keep on the lookout for that.
- 2:13And thank you, as always, for being our beautiful lovely.
- 2:15Bubby. Yeah.
- 2:16Thank you all. OK.
- 2:18All right. I have poll results.
- 2:20We sure do. I came up with this poll this
- 2:22week, guys. Yeah, I'm very happy.
- 2:24Normally I'm I've been very, very busy at work.
- 2:27So Travis has just been kind of posting the polls.
- 2:32We actually work together with this one.
- 2:33And this was this is my suggestion.
- 2:35We actually did not work together.
- 2:37Jesse did come up with this one entirely, so yeah.
- 2:40This one. I tried to give you credit.
- 2:42Thank you. Yeah, I.
- 2:42Don't need you posted it you. Just gave me credit for doing
- 2:45the ones before. You deserve credit for this one.
- 2:47So the poll that Jesse came up with was, did you guys ever play
- 2:52Bloody Mary? So we were talking about
- 2:54Paranormal Activity 3 and Bloody Mary was a big aspect of that
- 2:57movie. So we just kind of wanted to
- 2:59gather everybody's impressions with that.
- 3:01We all know I did because I told a very traumatic story about how
- 3:04I still can't be alone in a dark bathroom.
- 3:06Yeah, how the people related to that.
- 3:09So on Twitter, 63% of you guys played it, 37% hadn't.
- 3:14And over on Instagram, 67% and 33%.
- 3:20OK. So basically 2/3, two out of
- 3:23three children have played Bloody Mary.
- 3:25Or maybe adults, I don't know. Yeah, maybe you waited until you
- 3:28were like of legal age. It seems like most people have
- 3:32and I think that that see, that was one of the things I was
- 3:35wondering during the conversation of that movie is,
- 3:38is that that's still a thing that kids do or is that a thing
- 3:42that died with our generation? I don't.
- 3:44Got it. We need to ask.
- 3:46We need to ask our nephews because they're the oldest.
- 3:48That's true. The two oldest nephews, that is.
- 3:50Yeah. Yeah, your sisters.
- 3:52We need to Yeah, No, I know. We we need to yeah, we need to
- 3:56get to the bottom of this. I mean, I'm really curious.
- 3:59So yeah, thank you guys for playing along with the pole.
- 4:03We appreciate that, as always. I'm glad none of you have been
- 4:05killed by Bloody Mary. Yes, we are all living.
- 4:08Tony Todd has not gotten any of us yet.
- 4:10Yeah, I guess if Tony Todd's a Bloody Mary.
- 4:13Yeah, or Candy Man. Or Death himself.
- 4:16Or Death himself. Yeah.
- 4:18Yeah. OK.
- 4:19Norm MacDonald. OK, do.
- 4:21We have background. Facts.
- 4:22We do. All right, so let's get in the
- 4:25child's plea to everybody. Yay.
- 4:27So Child's Play Two released November 9th, 1990.
- 4:33OK, William. Shatner.
- 4:35First release at According to IMDb, first release at Internet.
- 4:43Was the Internet a thing in 1990 where you could get movies?
- 4:47No, I don't think. So, I mean, we all know Al Gore
- 4:51invented the Internet, Al. Gore was on my mind here.
- 4:54Was he the 1st to watch Child's Play back in 1990?
- 4:57Like nobody's seen this shit. Yeah, nobody knows about this
- 5:00fucking dog. He invented the Internet so that
- 5:02way people could watch Child's Play too.
- 5:06Yeah. Tell everybody you know.
- 5:08Global warming be damned. Everybody watched that fucking
- 5:10movie with the doll. That was his main goal there, so
- 5:15we didn't watch it on the Internet.
- 5:17We watched it on or 4K because that's what we have.
- 5:20That's what we watched, this bad boy.
- 5:22On middle fork. But if you do want to watch
- 5:25this, as of July 2024, you can watch it on Tubi, yeah.
- 5:30That's for free. Yeah, that is the only place you
- 5:32can stream this thing currently. But if you'd rather pay money,
- 5:36you can do so on Prime Apple, Fandango at home, or YouTube.
- 5:40So those are options out there, Yes.
- 5:43Written by Don Man, who actually gets the sole writing credit
- 5:47this time around. Yes, I'm proud of her boy.
- 5:49He he finally got it. John Lafia who is the director.
- 5:53Music by Graham Revell. Special effects makeup by Image
- 5:57Engineering with Kevin Yeager returning to do puppeteering and
- 6:02effects. Starring Alex Vincent as Andy,
- 6:07introducing Christine Elise as Kyle.
- 6:10This is his her film debut here. OK, she was like 27 too, right?
- 6:15She was pretty old. I think, I think I remember Alex
- 6:18Vinson's interview saying that you know, there is a 20 year age
- 6:22gap that he was still. She was in her 20s.
- 6:24At least then. Andy Alex Vinson was still a
- 6:27little baby boy. We have Jenny Agador as Joanne,
- 6:32Garrett Graham as Phil and Brad Duriff as Chucky.
- 6:36Yes. All right, time for our favorite
- 6:38show. Our favorite game on the show
- 6:42there. We go.
- 6:43Budget or bugton I was. About to say you really Pat
- 6:47Sajak, that one. Yeah, amazing.
- 6:51He always recovers and that's what I do.
- 6:53Here you pat Sajaked it. IPad.
- 6:55IPad. IPad dude, He just.
- 6:59Retired. He just retired.
- 7:01I'm going in for that position. Bug Ted.
- 7:05OK, you're incorrect. It is a budget.
- 7:08Oh. Damn.
- 7:09Yeah, well, man, this thing got picked up at Universal after
- 7:13this MGM, they lost the rights because they were in the middle
- 7:18of being acquired by a company that really wanted to pursue
- 7:23family friendly movies. So there was a big.
- 7:26It's called child's play. Well, yeah, I know they could
- 7:28maybe sneak in, but it ended up being a whole bidding war
- 7:33between a bunch of companies. Universal got it.
- 7:35Disney really, really wanted it under Touchstone, their adult
- 7:40brand. But yeah, Universal one, and
- 7:43they gave them the big. Bucks for this Buena Vista
- 7:45considered under Disney's brand? Cuz I know Buena Vista is a
- 7:48Disney brand. I just associated with their
- 7:51Lifetime esque movies. They're Hallmark.
- 7:55Brands, but there are Buena Vista horror movies.
- 7:57There are and they are very much lifetime and Hallmark esque that
- 8:01stands true. OK.
- 8:03So yeah, $13 million. What's the budget for this?
- 8:06And that's 13 million in 1990 money.
- 8:08It's pretty solid. So that's that's a good, that's
- 8:11a good amount. Yeah.
- 8:11Opening box office 10.7 million worldwide Gross 35.7.
- 8:18OK. IMDb I'm going to say this is
- 8:21kind of rude 5.9. What the fuck?
- 8:24I know this is such a good one in this series.
- 8:27This is one of the strongest Child's Play movies.
- 8:30Oh my God. I don't.
- 8:32I want to go personally talk to anybody who rated it under A6.
- 8:36I would like to know. I guarantee you, Roger Ebert,
- 8:39it's one of them. I don't have any grounds for
- 8:42that other than he hated horror movies and he was a reviewer at
- 8:45the time, but he probably hated it.
- 8:46Roger Ebert didn't like the thing, so I.
- 8:50Didn't like the thing. His opinion on horror be banned.
- 8:52The thing is beautiful. It's perfect.
- 8:54To be fair, everybody shot on the thing when that came out.
- 8:57I don't care. Yeah, so I have a a theme here.
- 9:02I hope I've redeemed myself because you were so wet down
- 9:04with my theme last time I did this.
- 9:06I just, I feel like we're not making equal efforts into our
- 9:09themes, OK? I just, I want to feel.
- 9:12I want to feel a balanced power dynamic.
- 9:14OK, well here we go. The theme that I have for three
- 9:19movies that also released in 1990 are little guys that are
- 9:24angry that are also in their second movie.
- 9:26That's amazing. That's a beautiful thing.
- 9:29Please tell me one of them's Leprechaun 2.
- 9:31No, it's not actually. I don't think like a Leprechaun
- 9:33one was even out at this point. That was an early 90s movie.
- 9:36I yeah, well, I was kind of hoping because I know it was
- 9:38Jennifer Aniston's. This is before friends.
- 9:41But not it was too. Far before Yeah, OK, well
- 9:44friends was like early 90s, so it was like it was.
- 9:47Possible mid mid 90s. I think this is 1990 and we're
- 9:51starting the decade here. OK, so the first movie I have
- 9:55basket case two Blau is a little.
- 9:59Angry Guy. And that would be his sequel,
- 10:01yeah. He's super angry.
- 10:02He is. Do you?
- 10:03Want me to? Do it you can.
- 10:04We also have Blau himself. In the room, No, I'll just move
- 10:07the microwave so it's not it doesn't blow it out.
- 10:12That's that's pretty much it. I mean it was me on the buttons.
- 10:17So just so, yeah, I think I've adjusted the levels on our mics
- 10:20to where you could do that and you won't blow it out.
- 10:21We're not gonna peek. We're not gonna like.
- 10:24I haven't even begun to peek. No, you have not.
- 10:27That was good. I'm sure people, our listeners
- 10:30appreciate you doing that to the side every day.
- 10:33So yeah, Basket Case Two released March 2nd, 1990 with a
- 10:37two and a half million dollar budget.
- 10:40Good for them. Yeah, they gave Frank, Hen and
- 10:42Lauter some money. Was that hen and lauter again
- 10:44for the? Season he did.
- 10:45All of them. Good, good for him.
- 10:46I'm so glad to hear that. Yeah, it's also the same year
- 10:49that Frank and Hooker came out, so he was a busy boy.
- 10:51Good for him. Yeah, I like Hen and Lauter.
- 10:54I I enjoy hearing his success. Yeah.
- 10:56So that doesn't have a gross that I can report at this time?
- 11:00I mean, it is gross. It is gross.
- 11:02Well, we haven't. Seen this one I know but I just
- 11:05it's hand and letter in its basket case so it's gross.
- 11:07Yeah, that's true. It's assumed.
- 11:09Yeah. IMDb score is 5.4.
- 11:13Wow OK, I feel like that has to be on par with the first one.
- 11:17I think the first one's higher. I think it's in the sixes.
- 11:19I think a lot of people that's like a become like a very cult
- 11:25classic. I think it was game popularity
- 11:27because of Oh Whose Line is it Anyways where they would do the
- 11:32report. I was going to say there was a
- 11:34weird crossover in our fandoms earlier this week when I was
- 11:38scrolling through YouTube and somebody had put a compilation
- 11:40together of Game Grumps and they put Aaron.
- 11:44Yeah, I see. That that kind of reinforces my
- 11:48thought that this is a more accessible cult horror movie
- 11:50that people are aware of at this point.
- 11:53So in the second one it. Would be like the second layer
- 11:57in an iceberg of cult horror. Yeah, it would.
- 11:59Yeah, Deep enough to like you, feel good about yourself for
- 12:03knowing about it, but not too deep to worry you can be a snob,
- 12:06be like, oh, I know a basket case.
- 12:08It's that layer where somebody that's like familiar with the
- 12:11deeper layers is like. Respect.
- 12:13Respect, but come with me, my child.
- 12:15Yes, we have such sites, such sites.
- 12:20Jesus. Worked. 2nd movie is Gremlins 2.
- 12:28Oh, OK. You could argue that there some
- 12:30of them are angry and some of them are happy.
- 12:32I mean, a lot of them are angry. I've never.
- 12:35I've never seen gremlins. Two, I've never seen Gremlins 2.
- 12:38I want to. I want.
- 12:39To really badly want to watch it for a lot of reasons, but one of
- 12:42my main favorite things about it is on Key and Peele.
- 12:45And you know, you know that this was Jordan Peele, the horror
- 12:49nerd that he is. Yeah.
- 12:51Was like, we're gonna do a skit about the creative meeting for
- 12:54gremlins too. Because this movie.
- 12:57Is insane. And he's like, no, we're going
- 13:00to throw everything out the window.
- 13:01Just say the wildest thing in your mind right now.
- 13:04And then like just like Hulk, Hogan's going to be in the
- 13:06movie. He's going to break the 4th
- 13:07wall. Like love it in the movie, just
- 13:09like everything like that. At the end, when you think that
- 13:12this is typical key and feel madness if you haven't seen the
- 13:14movie, it's like. These were all actually.
- 13:17In the movie. My favorite thing about this is
- 13:20I recently listened to a podcast episode of Joe Dante actually
- 13:26talking about his experience with this and he didn't, I don't
- 13:31think he really wanted to do a second one, but they're like OK,
- 13:35like let's just like make a fucking weird ass movie with a
- 13:39is basically how they approached it.
- 13:41What podcast was it per chance? Marc Maron's podcast, OK, yeah,
- 13:46he has some really interesting episodes where he sits down with
- 13:49directors. It was actually the same episode
- 13:51that he was talking with John Carpenter.
- 13:53OK. Yeah, so.
- 13:55So just like a fun little episode for you, you got John
- 13:57Carpenter and Joe Dante. That's why I hit a play.
- 14:00Yeah. So Gremlins 2 released June
- 14:0415th, 1990. Budget $50,000,000.50.
- 14:11Million for Gremlins 2. Dude OK Gremlins one was a hit
- 14:16that nobody saw coming. I.
- 14:18Get that? It may.
- 14:19Totally understand that. So they're like, fuck yeah, get
- 14:23us another one we're going to throw everything at.
- 14:25This is the opposite of the bum house logic.
- 14:29Yeah. Which is to just OK, this was
- 14:31successful, you get $500,000. More for the sequel.
- 14:36They had the right idea to where they're like Joe Dante, go do
- 14:39your thing. But Joe Dante was like, OK, but
- 14:42I'm going to get weird with it this.
- 14:43Time, but also fuck you, yeah. At the same.
- 14:46Time and it. I think it's paid off and become
- 14:49a cult classic. I think a lot of people
- 14:50appreciate it for its. We need to watch this.
- 14:53I definitely remember being excited to introduce you to the
- 14:56first one. But yeah, it's a really, yeah,
- 14:58we need to. It's really shocking.
- 15:01We need to watch the second one together.
- 15:04I would love to, yes. So yeah, budget was 50 million
- 15:07worldwide gross 41 million. No, yeah, I'm also all the money
- 15:13there. Not too happy with old Dante
- 15:15with that one. IMDb though.
- 15:18This. Which circle of hell is this
- 15:19Dante in? Hey.
- 15:22Not good. That was that was really good.
- 15:25Thank. You, you just hurt me.
- 15:28Yeah, no, that, that was really good.
- 15:30I just sometimes I'm like, fuck, man, I I need to take you down
- 15:35at that because I think you're gonna go, you're gonna leave me.
- 15:37I'm gonna go so loud. So yeah, this actually shocked
- 15:42me, but the IMDb for that is 6.4.
- 15:45Wow. So like it's got a really good
- 15:48review with the people. OK, so earlier when we were
- 15:51recording to be we talked about maybe watching reality TV based
- 15:55horror movies tonight. But I'm also thinking maybe mall
- 15:58based movie marathon might be fun because we could watch like
- 16:01this chopping mall. Dawn of the Dead.
- 16:05Dawn of the Dead Wrong turn 4 or not wrong turn 4.
- 16:09Final destination for I was. Going to say which wrong turn
- 16:12took place in the. Mall.
- 16:13I want that. Wrong turn 7 maybe?
- 16:16Oh my God, the real wrong turn 7 the.
- 16:19Wrong. Turn Oh, hey, hey, I've got some
- 16:23I got I got something I want to say about wrong turn the remake.
- 16:26You know, for a long time, listeners, you guys know how
- 16:29we've shit on it. We have finally met in person
- 16:31somebody local here that worked on that movie and we felt really
- 16:35bad actually trashing it without knowing that he worked on it.
- 16:39And I just want to say I'm sorry for those of you that have
- 16:42worked on it. It has its merits, but it just
- 16:44isn't what we wanted. It's a good.
- 16:47Movie. It's a bad wrong turn.
- 16:50Movie. That is how I and that's what
- 16:52I've said since the beginning. I'm like, man, I would love this
- 16:54movie if it wasn't called Wrong Turn, but I came in there.
- 16:58I want a hooten and hollering. That's what we wanted and we
- 17:01were way too excited to shit on it in front of this guy until
- 17:05his friend was like, he actually worked on the movie.
- 17:09He's a very nice guy. I'm.
- 17:10Very. Sorry, he's super cool, yeah.
- 17:12It wasn't it wasn't a personal attack, it was just a hey aren't
- 17:17the wrong term movies stupid dumb fun.
- 17:19What did this hoity toity nonsense think it was?
- 17:21He, he, he got what I. Think.
- 17:24Yeah, it was all good, OK. Cuz I do enjoy the movie itself
- 17:27and at some point we will talk about it, no?
- 17:30Unfortunately OK. So the final movie.
- 17:32The problem is that you're gonna make me talk about wrong turn 6
- 17:35before we can get to it. So.
- 17:36We both get to be upset. Yes, yeah, it's true.
- 17:40I'm gonna be upset with that one too.
- 17:41I don't like Wrong Turn 6. Move on.
- 17:44OK, move on. OK, move on.
- 17:45Move on. Final movie from 1990, that is.
- 17:49A little guy in the second movie, that is.
- 17:51Very angry. Very angry V.
- 17:53Small V Angry. And the most I guess in a
- 17:58technical sense this counts because it is a 2, but this is
- 18:03troll 2. I will accept this.
- 18:06Because. I will always accept.
- 18:08Troll two you can. Use whatever justification you
- 18:10want to get troll 2 into a list and I will take it.
- 18:13So yeah, Troll two is our next. Movie that is the only. 11 out
- 18:16of 10 that has ever been on this show.
- 18:19And it will. Forever be the only 11.
- 18:21Out of 10. That is the movie that led to us
- 18:24being married, and that's a true story.
- 18:26You can go listen to her episode on it.
- 18:28That's. How I got the girl yelling I
- 18:30showed it to her. So that movie released October
- 18:343rd 1990. Budget of $100,000.
- 18:39Worldwide gross of 1131 dollars. We are at least 500 of that.
- 18:46No, we are not just. Kidding.
- 18:48Well, I would we would be if we were alive in 1990.
- 18:52IMDb 3 out of 10. Rude.
- 18:56Rude dude. Rude dude.
- 19:00Yeah, OK. All right.
- 19:02Do we have tag lines? We go to.
- 19:05Yeah, I don't have to pull up the list, but I did run out of
- 19:07lines so I had to make my. Own lines here that makes up for
- 19:10the to be disappointment. Yeah.
- 19:12So this one will make the one that's on the poster will make
- 19:14sense if you're looking at the poster.
- 19:16And I think it makes sense because of the trailer slash
- 19:19commercial like promo material that was coming out at the time.
- 19:23But it is. Sorry, Jack, Chucky's back.
- 19:27Who is Jack? Jack is Jack-in-the-box on the
- 19:30cover. He has the scissors and he's
- 19:33about to cut off Jack's head. I knew.
- 19:35This tagline when you were before you read it, but I did
- 19:39not make that connection until you said that.
- 19:41Yeah. So in the, I think in the promo
- 19:43material like Jack-in-the-box, like pops out-of-the-box, and
- 19:46then Chucky comes up behind and cuts his head.
- 19:48Off that makes. Sense, Yeah.
- 19:50So next tagline, it's playtime again.
- 19:56Good job fellas. That is, that has varied.
- 19:59The night he came home again, energy.
- 20:01Which is the whole. Reason we started doing tag
- 20:03lines, yeah. It's true.
- 20:04Yeah, not quite the same level, but it's it's close.
- 20:09Next one this fall. Chucky rules.
- 20:14That is solo effort I feel. Is it Trust this guys.
- 20:20Chucky rules, trust me. All right, this one's wordy.
- 20:23In 1988, he started us with. He startled us with a
- 20:28frightening vision. Then he was destroyed and left
- 20:31for dead. Now he's about to be reborn.
- 20:35Too much. Yeah, too much.
- 20:37And the final one, keep an eye out for it.
- 20:42That works if you've seen the movie and you know there's a lot
- 20:45of eye trauma. That's true, yeah.
- 20:47There is a lot of eye shit that goes on in this, which I
- 20:49fucking. Hate.
- 20:50I hate eye trauma. It's so funny because
- 20:54everybody's got like a thing that just makes them swarm with
- 20:57movies. For me, it's eyes.
- 20:59For you it's eyes. For my mom, it's teeth.
- 21:03Teeth are upsetting, too. So that was always a thing with
- 21:06Saw movies. I remember I want to say it was
- 21:08Saw three specifically that had like the teeth hanging from the
- 21:11wire and she was like. She needs to watch the dentist
- 21:15movies. She.
- 21:17I'll show it to her when she comes.
- 21:19Watch out, Naomi. OK, so fun facts All right, so
- 21:25the first one I had here, I thought that this was
- 21:27interesting. We were watching some of the
- 21:29Blu-ray special features and there was an interview with
- 21:31Donna Mancini and he said the humor and style of this movie
- 21:35was heavily influenced by return of the living dead because that
- 21:38was a movie that they were obsessed with at the time when
- 21:41they were making this movie. I.
- 21:43Love that in that kind of I never would have made the
- 21:48connection between them, but it also explains why I love them
- 21:52both in such a way that like just I'm like, obviously I love
- 21:56this movie. Like, I don't know how to
- 21:57explain it to people, but I'm like, obviously I love this
- 21:59movie. This.
- 22:00Is the one where and they even said to themselves, Chucky
- 22:03becomes fun, Chucky becomes the Chucky that we know and love.
- 22:06Child's play one. It's a great movie, but Chucky
- 22:09is very much a straight up slasher serial killer.
- 22:12And it's, this is very eventually the killer being
- 22:15aware that he's a killer, but in a doll and is taking advantage
- 22:18of it. Same with, like, Return of the
- 22:20Living Dead, where there's zombies and they know it and
- 22:22they're like brains. Yeah.
- 22:23Brains. Yeah, they have.
- 22:24More cops they have fun with. It yes and him doing his whole
- 22:28hi hi I'm. Tommy, I love that so much.
- 22:32God, it's probably my second favorite line from the whole
- 22:35franchise. Yeah.
- 22:36So like, I mean, and this is the movie and that right there when
- 22:40they use that as inspiration when writing this was how they
- 22:43realized that they actually had a fun character on their hands.
- 22:46So that's why we have the trucking that we have today
- 22:49because of return of the living death.
- 22:50That's. Amazing that to tie those two
- 22:53things together that I love so much.
- 22:55God. I know it's perfect.
- 22:56Amazing. So they tried to get Tom Holland
- 23:00back for this movie. Oh did they?
- 23:02Tom Holland declined because he had conflicts with Kirchner.
- 23:07OK, you know, the producer that has produced every single
- 23:09Child's Play movie to this day. The movie was going to open in a
- 23:14courtroom with Karen being sentenced to a mental
- 23:17institution. Both Hicks and Sarandon, who
- 23:21played Norris, would have returned and reprised the roles.
- 23:25But last year, in 2023, Sarandon actually said that he declined
- 23:32because Holland didn't return, so he didn't want to do the
- 23:35role. Interesting.
- 23:36But it's also been noted that they didn't do the scene because
- 23:40they cut back due to budgetary concerns.
- 23:43Yeah, because Catherine Hicks, she is on the set of this movie
- 23:49most of the time. She is married to Kevin Yeager,
- 23:51the special effects guy. Oh.
- 23:54Shit, they met on Child's Play one so so she was there.
- 23:57So Kevin Yeager's daughter I know has like done she did her.
- 24:01What was it like book or something about being?
- 24:03Yeah. Yeah, so that makes it even
- 24:05more. She did a movie.
- 24:07OK, I couldn't remember. It was a book, a documentary.
- 24:10And I've done both but I know she for sure did the movies like
- 24:12making Chucky or something like that.
- 24:13Yeah, or living with Chucky. Living with Chucky.
- 24:15Yeah. So that makes it even more, I
- 24:18don't know, there's even more of a connection like.
- 24:20Yeah, both her parents are heavily tied into the franchise.
- 24:23Interesting. Yeah.
- 24:25I feel like we need to watch that documentary.
- 24:26I don't know. Yeah, for sure.
- 24:28It kind of sucks for her though, especially since she was hanging
- 24:30out on set but she doesn't get to be a part of the movie.
- 24:32Like she totally. Could have done it.
- 24:34She was right there. Well, and I was getting some
- 24:36background information for the To Be movie and I remember like
- 24:40kind of overheard, I wasn't fully listening, but overheard
- 24:43Don Mancini talking about they did have all of these scenes
- 24:46that were actually filmed that ended up having to be cut.
- 24:50So I guess maybe it's kind of good that she didn't actually
- 24:54get in hair and makeup and costume and character and yeah,
- 24:57record all of that just to be completely cut from the movie.
- 25:01In true child's Play fashion, as we will learn as we talk more
- 25:05about these movies, this does in the becoming recycled material
- 25:08later down the line in cursive Chucky.
- 25:11And I, I love that. I love that they hold on to the,
- 25:15this is kind of the opposite of what we talked about with Cruel
- 25:18World, where they have a cool idea and they're just going to
- 25:20jam it in, even if it doesn't make sense narratively.
- 25:23I like that. It's same like with Child's Play
- 25:25and with the Saw franchise where they have these ideas.
- 25:28They can't make it work in the movie.
- 25:29They're going to hold on to it and save it later for a future
- 25:32movie. I like it too.
- 25:33I think the thing that they use there is when they do it with
- 25:36Nika because she goes to the facility in cursive.
- 25:39Chuck yes, so also in this right here, it would have had Chucky.
- 25:45Chucky is the. One where she's in the facility.
- 25:47OK, well this said cursed Chucky where I got the source, so it
- 25:50could have been mixed up, I don't know.
- 25:54No, yeah, you're right. Cola Chucky is that one.
- 25:57Cuz that's where we Yeah, you're right.
- 26:00So. Spoiler.
- 26:01I think it. I think you're right.
- 26:02It should be cool to Chucky. Yeah.
- 26:04All right. So.
- 26:05I'll just beep that out. That way people don't know.
- 26:09Only the people that know. The movie if they would have
- 26:12done the scene it would have had Chucky being stored in an
- 26:14evidence Walker and he would have been stored beside a Jason
- 26:17hockey mask and a Michael Myers mask.
- 26:19And they end up using that with the.
- 26:20Gets. Recycle.
- 26:21Yeah, that does get that does get paid off.
- 26:25So yeah, again, another. We're starting to get that here
- 26:29as early as Child's Play to recycled ideas later down the
- 26:31line. So as you were talking, Joanne's
- 26:37actor Jenny Agader, she had a horrible time on this set here.
- 26:43She, I think, is used to being a bigger actor and having most of
- 26:48her shit make the cut, but her character had a lot of cut
- 26:53scenes and it made her not very happy.
- 26:57She she wanted to be more of a major character and because of
- 27:02all the things that happened, she ended up becoming a minor
- 27:04character on the Blu-ray. There's like a whole thing of
- 27:08diamonds and you're talking about how he had to go to her
- 27:10trailer one day and tell her that they cut her scene and she
- 27:13got really upset. And I loved his reaction to
- 27:15that. He's like, ah, girl, that's
- 27:19exactly what he says. Like not much I could do for
- 27:22you. And I feel bad for him because
- 27:24he said he was such a big fan of her previous work.
- 27:27He was really excited to work with her on this.
- 27:29And then she's and it's so openly shat on it.
- 27:32She disowns this movie. And he wrote the scenes for her
- 27:34too. It's not like he didn't want her
- 27:36there. I like her.
- 27:37Got overruled, yeah. And I I get it too from her part
- 27:41because she is like doing really emotionally charged stuff.
- 27:44I like her character and I like her as an actor, Yeah.
- 27:46So I feel like she was really good in this.
- 27:49So next, Alex Vincent, we'll talk about him a little bit.
- 27:53He was really worried that he wouldn't be cute enough to be
- 27:56Andy still in this movie. He.
- 27:58Is still a cutie to this day, but he was absolutely adorable
- 28:01in Child's Play too. Still.
- 28:02But he. I'm.
- 28:04Amazing. Because he was.
- 28:06He was. He was eight in this movie, but
- 28:07he was seven while they were filming and he brought such
- 28:11maturity to the role. He is one of those rare child
- 28:15actors that just fucking nails it.
- 28:17He does a great job and I the. Fact that he was like, I'm not
- 28:21as cute. Anymore, that is the thing I
- 28:23don't. I get it when you're a 7 year
- 28:26old going from five or six to seven.
- 28:30Whoa. Yeah, but he looks.
- 28:32Exactly over the hill. Yeah, he he looks exactly the
- 28:35same. He doesn't sound quite as
- 28:37childish, but he's, you know, he's so Andy.
- 28:40I didn't. I wouldn't have questioned.
- 28:42And he's wearing his little sweaters that look like Danny
- 28:44from The Shining. And yeah, I felt bad for him.
- 28:47He was talking all about his experience as a child actor
- 28:50being, you know, a character in a famous horror series.
- 28:55And, you know, he said a lot of kids don't really watch horror
- 28:58movies, so he didn't get asked about that a lot.
- 28:59But his dad was super proud of him and talked to people about
- 29:02it. But.
- 29:03His dad was so proud of. Him.
- 29:04He hated it though. He hated having to talk about
- 29:06it. He got sick of talking about
- 29:08Chucky all the time. But now, oh, he's fully embraced
- 29:11it. He's like, I appreciate that.
- 29:13And this is, I tuned in. I stopped writing because I
- 29:15wanted to pay attention to this. Or he was just like, you know,
- 29:17this is a thing that means so much to people.
- 29:20And I'm just so happy to be a part of something that has
- 29:23brought so much joy and so much entertainment to so many people.
- 29:27And I. Still a part of it to this.
- 29:28Day he's going to be at Scarefest and we're very excited
- 29:31to meet him and. He's in the show too, so you
- 29:34know he's awesome. I love him as a character and as
- 29:37a. Yes, yes.
- 29:38And this will not be the last time we that Alex Vincent, so
- 29:41don't you worry. Yes, yeah, he'll be in next
- 29:44month. Shots play three, don't you
- 29:46worry. No.
- 29:47He's not in the second. He's not in the.
- 29:49Third one, you're right. Fuck, I forgot about that.
- 29:51Don't worry, he will come back in later iterations that.
- 29:54Sounds like the end of like a Marvel movie.
- 29:56Don't worry, Alex Vincent will. Return.
- 30:00Dot dot dot. Yeah.
- 30:01So there was a tie in novelization that was done in
- 30:05this movie, and they added some additional details.
- 30:10Most important was it gave some back story to Chucky.
- 30:14So Chucky in the novelization, Father was absent, mother was an
- 30:21abusive dwarf and he got teased a lot by people because of this.
- 30:28So he got mad at her and he ended up strangling her and.
- 30:34So I became the like sure strangler.
- 30:35Yeah, that's how he started his whole strangling thing there.
- 30:39OK. So that's that.
- 30:41It also went a little bit into detail about Andy's back story
- 30:45too, but not a lot of details on that right there.
- 30:49And then they ended up also having something that ended up
- 30:53being an idea that was used later on in one of the Child's
- 30:55Play movies where Chucky wanted to use all of the good guy dolls
- 30:59in the factory as an army to get him, but they didn't actually
- 31:06make it happen. I'm sure.
- 31:07Budget concerns. Were also.
- 31:09But also, this is a novelization, so it wasn't even
- 31:11in the script ritual so. But it wasn't an idea that got
- 31:14used later down the line. So OK, that's it for the fun
- 31:18facts. So I reckon it's time for us to
- 31:22get into our good, bad, ugly and absurd, and it's time for you to
- 31:25kick it off. Jesse, what do you like about
- 31:26this? Well, first of all, Alex
- 31:28Vincent's performance is fucking phenomenal.
- 31:31The fact that he was actually seven years old and he was still
- 31:34this adorable child. Alex, you were cute.
- 31:37OK, get over it. You're adorable and also I
- 31:40noticed some improvement in his acting.
- 31:43Too He really like honestly, he matured so much and it.
- 31:49In a way that like the character.
- 31:50It makes sense that he would have matured that way.
- 31:52But also like it kind of made my heartbreak for Alex Vincent cuz
- 31:56I'm like, Oh my God, you had so much pressure.
- 31:58He was the headliner for this movie.
- 31:59Yeah, he starred and it Says starring Alex.
- 32:02Vincent, yes, in the opening credits and he does such a good
- 32:05job. His relationship, Andy's
- 32:07relationship with Kyle is just the most heartwarming thing.
- 32:11I love it cuz like she is very resistant to the whole thing
- 32:15because she's been through so many foster families and it's
- 32:18not just the foster parents, but it's the other kids in the house
- 32:22and the fact that she's won over by him and then they, you know,
- 32:27trauma bond the way they have to.
- 32:28I walked in there first. Yes, you can tell her that she
- 32:31doesn't like to attach get attached to people because she's
- 32:34afraid of losing. Them like that impression, which
- 32:36is very. Yeah, she wants to, like, pass
- 32:39on her knowledge because whenever Andy starts to like,
- 32:43she overhears and talking about him getting kicked out, she's
- 32:45like, look, this is the advice that this is what I've learned.
- 32:48I'm going to pass to you because this is what you got to know.
- 32:50Man, yeah, it's kind of like a even if we aren't going to stay
- 32:53together, I'm at least going to try and make sure that you can
- 32:55survive this. System exactly.
- 32:58I just, I just love their their whole situation.
- 33:01I like that we see a foster family and it's not an inherent
- 33:06abuse situation because I feel like a lot of time foster
- 33:08families and horror movies are kind of like.
- 33:12Yeah, they don't want the kid. They don't want the kid, They're
- 33:15using them for money, they're abusive, whatever.
- 33:18I like that this is a family. They just, they want children.
- 33:22They want, they're fostering you.
- 33:24Get a smidge of it with Phillip, who is a little bit an asshole.
- 33:27He has some he he's right in some instances, but not
- 33:33necessarily right in how he handles.
- 33:35Yes, he's right to be like upset with certain things is.
- 33:38A very complicated character. Yeah, I can.
- 33:41Probably. Write a whole.
- 33:42Thesis on Philip. Both of them, honestly, that
- 33:44whole dynamic between the two of them is super complex and like
- 33:49you just get hints at everything, but you can put the
- 33:52full picture together pretty well with what they give you.
- 33:56So I just, I, I really like that we have this kind of story told
- 34:00in a way that you don't typically see in media, and I
- 34:04really appreciate that with it. I just, I don't know.
- 34:09I just, I think it's interesting the way they find different ways
- 34:12to bring Chucky back. Yeah.
- 34:14And I like that that's going to continue to be a thing.
- 34:17No matter how fuck that begins, he makes it back.
- 34:19Yes, and and the the humor with it.
- 34:24It's not that he wasn't funny in the first one, it's that he
- 34:26doesn't talk until most of the way through.
- 34:28He has his moments in the first one, but I feel like they fully
- 34:33embrace. It yes, because this one we
- 34:35already know it's a killer inside of a doll so we can just
- 34:38cut to the chase and have. Fun.
- 34:39You don't have to have that whole build up.
- 34:41And that's why, like, sequels are such a hit and miss because
- 34:44sometimes it's like, OK, well, how do you top the first one?
- 34:46But sometimes it's like, OK, well, now we've gotten this
- 34:48bizarre premise out of the way, people are on board with it.
- 34:52Yeah, now we can really explore it it and have some fun with it.
- 34:56That too. Yeah, so I I really enjoy this
- 34:59movie. Having a single rider on this
- 35:02one probably helped it too. Yes, the first one had so many
- 35:06rewrites and different ideas thrown in it, it's a miracle
- 35:11that it was as good as it was. Honestly, yes.
- 35:12Yes. OK, so that's that's your good.
- 35:16OK, I agree with all that you said there.
- 35:20I fucking love this movie. This is I think that this it's
- 35:25so tough because this is such a strong franchise, but this is
- 35:29God. This is a contender for my
- 35:31favorite. Yeah, I was going to say when we
- 35:33get to to the end of this and we're ranking them, I wouldn't
- 35:36be surprised if this is my top. It's so good man, I love it.
- 35:40But then again, I think I had to some of the ones we still have
- 35:43to talk about. I'm like, no.
- 35:44Way right of Chucky is coming up right of three even.
- 35:48And I'm I am a staunch defender of seat of Chucky.
- 35:51Seat of Chucky guy. Way too much hate back in.
- 35:55The way too much hate it still gets, way too much I hate.
- 35:57It's an amazing movie. We'll talk about that in a few
- 36:00days anyway. Child's way, too.
- 36:02Child's way too is fucking amazing and I don't think it
- 36:04gets talked about enough. No.
- 36:06It doesn't. Good or bad, it just doesn't get
- 36:08talked about enough. Yeah, it's I think it's one of
- 36:11the strongest follow-ups to a slasher to a horror movie that
- 36:15we have out there. Yes.
- 36:17I love how they leaned into the fucking character of Chucky the
- 36:21way that they did. I love how Chucky, they did such
- 36:27a good job making him more animated this time around.
- 36:30I feel like they focused more on his facial expressions.
- 36:33Yes, and I again, Brad Dourif actually recorded his lines
- 36:38beforehand, but they made note that they actually focus harder
- 36:42on getting his facial reactions to sync up a little bit better.
- 36:46OK, so we get like a more authentic like delivery from
- 36:51Chucky the doll this time around.
- 36:54I like it. It made a big difference for me
- 36:56because I like it. I like when he's like angry and
- 36:59he's actually like you get to see, you get to see the emotion
- 37:01in the dolls face, which is fucking tough to do with this.
- 37:05Yeah, I feel like in the first one it was either like doll,
- 37:07like Toy Story, humans Cumming face, or it was angry.
- 37:12We didn't really get a lot of in between it and this one.
- 37:14We get to see him reacting to stuff.
- 37:16I think the first one you get the face and it's preset so you
- 37:21don't get to see the shifting emotions in the face and I feel
- 37:25like they did a better job with that.
- 37:27And this one right here. I also feel like the deaths in
- 37:31this movie were fucking phenomenal.
- 37:33They did such a good job here. And the way that the deaths are
- 37:37done in this, it's extra satisfying.
- 37:40And because I feel like every death is just vindicating Andy
- 37:43even more because every single time he's trying to tell people,
- 37:47excuse me, that Chucky is alive and he's so tired of the
- 37:52bullshit of people already not believing him because he's used
- 37:55to it from the first movie. Yeah.
- 37:56It's like you guys are going to fucking know.
- 37:58You guys will find out soon enough.
- 37:59And then whenever it happens, you feel good about.
- 38:03It it's like that scene where he's talking to the psychiatrist
- 38:06at the foster home in the very beginning, the foster center.
- 38:09Yeah. And he's like, do you wanna talk
- 38:11about these nightmares? And he goes no.
- 38:14Yeah, I don't wanna talk about it cuz you're just gonna tell me
- 38:16I'm wrong. Yeah.
- 38:18I'm not. I'm not willing to sit here and
- 38:19be gasoline. I know what happened.
- 38:21I know why you guys don't believe it.
- 38:22So no, we're just not going to talk about it.
- 38:24I do question though, we had Norris, we had Catherine's
- 38:31character. What was her name in the movie?
- 38:33Karen. Karen.
- 38:34And we had the other. Yeah, the other guy, the
- 38:37partner. So it would have been nice.
- 38:39Like I get, OK. So at the beginning, they talk
- 38:42about the, you know, his story swept the nation.
- 38:47They ended up writing it off as, like, maybe a worker got in
- 38:50there and rerecorded stuff and everybody is willing to just be
- 38:52like, whatever, it's a kid. But then the mom defends him.
- 38:55But what happened to. Yeah, what happened to Norris?
- 38:57And what happened to Norris partner?
- 38:59Yeah, three adults. She gets thrown into the mental
- 39:01institution. Do the other two.
- 39:04Yeah, Norris. Goes back to his.
- 39:06Wife that we made-up in the first one and the other guy was
- 39:09probably just like. He just quietly resigned and
- 39:12moved away. I.
- 39:13Don't know why I still always associate him with spookies.
- 39:16So I wonder if you just wander on over into spookies?
- 39:19It's a. Very confusing movie, very
- 39:21amazing. Almost as confusing as a.
- 39:25Cruel. World.
- 39:27So yeah, that's my good. Aside from the things that you
- 39:29had mentioned so bad, what do you think is bad about this?
- 39:34I think once we get to the action, it's very speed up.
- 39:37It feels like things happen really, really fast.
- 39:40And I don't necessarily mean that in a bad as in like they
- 39:44didn't want to build the world, but just a bad that like I want
- 39:47to live in this world some, you know what I mean?
- 39:49Cuz I'm very attached to Andy as a character.
- 39:51I've become very attached to like his foster home situation
- 39:55and just things just start happening so fast that it feels
- 39:59like we're thrust into it. Yeah, I.
- 40:02Think you're right. Yeah.
- 40:04And again, it's this is a very minor nitpick of it because this
- 40:08is an excellent movie. And we we already know Andy as a
- 40:12character. We get him and we get a decent
- 40:14introduction to Joanne and Phil. We get a very good introduction
- 40:18to Kyle. But yeah, things just happen so,
- 40:22so fast. I can see that.
- 40:25The only bad that I could probably think of for this movie
- 40:28is I love the ending. I love the setting of it, being
- 40:31in a factory, making all of these good guy dolls.
- 40:35It's great, but I hate how many false innings that we get.
- 40:39Oh, that's a good point. Because we get Chucky died and
- 40:42Oh no, he's not dead yet. You know it happens like at
- 40:44least three times. We could have had some more
- 40:46world building if we didn't have him fake die so many times.
- 40:50That's a good point, and actually swapped some of that
- 40:52out and. To the credit of that, this is
- 40:55the shortest Child's Play movie out of all of them.
- 40:58Really. Mm, hmm.
- 41:00It's barely, barely. It's like 80 some minutes.
- 41:05Wow. Yeah.
- 41:07So it's not very long. So yeah, I mean, we could have
- 41:10not had him dying and coming back three times in a row.
- 41:15It just kind of loses its effects if you keep doing it.
- 41:19Yeah, but other than, I mean, it's so fun.
- 41:21I like it, but you know, scale it back A.
- 41:23Little bit, yeah, no. And I definitely, that's the
- 41:25thing I talked about when we were talking about Nightmare on
- 41:27Elm Street, was there's only so many times you can be like, but
- 41:30it's a dream. Yeah, exactly.
- 41:31Yeah, it's just, it was this effect eventually.
- 41:34Yeah. OK, ugly.
- 41:37I guess The Simpsons like, and this is a complex thing, like
- 41:44wanting to have a family of your own is a very complex thing.
- 41:47The foster system and adoption is a very complex thing.
- 41:50There's a lot of arguments to be made, and we're not going to
- 41:52have the space and time and capacity to talk about this with
- 41:55the nuance it deserves on the show.
- 41:59But the way Phil just seems like he's going through the motions
- 42:03with this to get Joanne a child because that's what she wants,
- 42:06it feels very icky to me. I thought you were talking about
- 42:09The Simpsons, the TV show I was. Like why are you so?
- 42:13Shocks. We literally touched on this.
- 42:15Yeah, on The Simpsons. Hold on.
- 42:19But first, Phil, I'm like, wait, where is this going?
- 42:23OK, yeah, I get. Yeah, that's true.
- 42:26And that's my ugly, too. I like, it's very complex.
- 42:30Yeah, you're right. But I hate how he's so quick to
- 42:34just discard Andy right throughout the gate.
- 42:38Agreed to Foster and you agreed to adopt.
- 42:41It should come with an understanding that you are going
- 42:44to be treating complex emotional situations.
- 42:48Always. It felt like in the scene when
- 42:52they end up getting Andy, he settles for him.
- 42:56And I think he does it because he knows that Joanne really
- 43:01wants a kid and he wants one too.
- 43:03But he doesn't, you know? I think he's just like, well
- 43:06fuck, let's just do it. Because you're supposed to have
- 43:09a child. Yeah.
- 43:10Where she like actually she makes a connection with these.
- 43:13She makes an effort. Yeah.
- 43:15He doesn't. He doesn't make an effort.
- 43:16He's just tries to like Johnny Law, trying to just.
- 43:19He's the. Dad that agrees to get the cat
- 43:23and he like sometimes you see him snuggling with the cat, but
- 43:25most of the time he complaints about the cat.
- 43:27That's kind of how he is. Except these are fucking humans.
- 43:29He's, you know. He's the relative that you go
- 43:33over to their house and they're like really mean and strict
- 43:36about the rule is like, fuck, I hate going to your house.
- 43:38Yeah, he's the one with the plastic on the couch.
- 43:40Yeah, exactly. I hate it.
- 43:42The first thing that happens when Andy goes over there, he's
- 43:44like, don't touch that statue. That's a very important statue.
- 43:48And he's like, I was just. You're.
- 43:50You're taking in foster children, why do you have it at
- 43:52the height that an 8 year old can easily grab?
- 43:54Yeah, don't be so stupid. Like.
- 43:56We. Know when our when our nieces
- 43:59and nephews come over like our house.
- 44:01Is not. Childproof, but we do get stuff
- 44:04that's at eye level for the most part that we and anything we
- 44:08don't, we agree that like we accept the fault if it gets
- 44:11broken. Yeah, yeah.
- 44:13Like. Yeah, OK, absurd.
- 44:17Oh, the. House.
- 44:19The house. The yeah, remember I wrote in my
- 44:21notes that it's a gender reveal party nightmare because it's all
- 44:25just pink and blue and it's terrible and is ugly and I hate
- 44:27it. It's.
- 44:28Terrible. Oh man, yeah, the house is a
- 44:30really weird way out. It looks like a the oldest
- 44:33person you know live there and decorated the shit out of it.
- 44:37And it honestly, it kind of feels like she did the pink and
- 44:40blue because they're taking in these foster children.
- 44:42Girl we know. They're like, we don't know
- 44:45everybody. Later when she says that, Andy,
- 44:48I made these curtains just for you, bitch.
- 44:50No, you didn't. You got called down to the
- 44:52center. You didn't know that you were
- 44:53going to be walking away with a foster child at that moment went
- 44:56like, did you sew up those curtains real fast when you're
- 44:59like, oh, maybe there's a child we're going to bring home?
- 45:01You didn't. You're a liar.
- 45:03That is funny. Yeah.
- 45:05OK, my my absurd is Andy goes to school first day of school, got
- 45:14to make a good impression with the kids there.
- 45:16Recess, best time of day. Andy goes over there, grabs a
- 45:20ball, runs over to a fence and starts just bouncing off the
- 45:22fence back and forth to himself over and over again.
- 45:25And it's a. Chain link so.
- 45:27It barely bounces and the whole chain is rattling.
- 45:30I think he may be he has. Like an inch of separation
- 45:34between him and the fence and he's just just like bouncing it
- 45:38back and forth. And it's just like, kid, you're
- 45:40not. I feel like he's trying to like,
- 45:41look cool and natural. Like, hey, play cool, man.
- 45:45Like, you know, you don't want anybody to think that you're
- 45:47silently freaking out over here. He's like the the new loner in
- 45:51prison. It's like trying to be like I'm
- 45:52going to keep to myself, but also I'm tough.
- 45:54Yeah, here's the ball. I'm just going to bounce on you.
- 45:56See how fast I'm doing this shit over here?
- 45:58You. Don't want fun with.
- 45:58This shit. What does this mean?
- 46:03My final absurds. Full blown closet.
- 46:08What full blown closet? Help me figure this out.
- 46:13Is it when the closet because there's just so many fucking
- 46:16toys in? There, No, it's not that.
- 46:20Oh, oh, it's in the school when there's like a whole fucking
- 46:26closet in the the school, the classroom she goes in and
- 46:31there's jackets, there's fucking outfits.
- 46:32There's a whole wardrobe in there.
- 46:38We watched this movie 3 days ago.
- 46:40Yeah, the. Heart notes don't.
- 46:43I didn't I think I got I got distracted because I love that
- 46:45scene coming up. So I just wrote full blown
- 46:47closet and I didn't finish it. But yeah, that's it.
- 46:50It was weird. I was like, why the fuck does
- 46:52she have this much shit in the classroom closet?
- 46:55OK, all right, let's rate it. We know what this is.
- 46:58It's. A10 man, this is a.
- 47:00Fucking 10 this movie rules. It's amazing.
- 47:02It is such a solid follow up and listen, sequels, I think we've
- 47:07all kind of realized that you just got to accept what you get
- 47:10and you either like it or you don't.
- 47:11But this is a. Really.
- 47:12Strong. Yeah, for sure.
- 47:14This one I I mean it. It one UPS the original all the
- 47:17way. Yeah, honestly, if I had to pick
- 47:19between 1:00 and 2:00, as much as I love one and as great as I
- 47:23think it is, I have so much more fun watching this one.
- 47:25Yeah, two is fucking. Like the first one is amazing.
- 47:28Yeah, it is. Yeah.
- 47:29Like as a straight up horror movie it.
- 47:31But this one knows who Chucky is and knows who Andy is.
- 47:34It knows what world it lives in. It establishes the world and
- 47:38characters that we come to love. Yeah, in this series.
- 47:41And I am just going to preface this, I didn't say any of this
- 47:43during our good, bad, ugly and absurd, but when we get to the
- 47:46warehouse scene, just be prepared for me to get
- 47:48frustrated because I've worked in a factory and Travis was
- 47:50listening to me yell at the screen at one point I was just
- 47:52going. Lookout tag out, lookout tag
- 47:54out, lookout tag out you. Think these kids are going to
- 47:56know about that shit? Oh wait, no, this is a full
- 47:59blown workers are doing that shit.
- 48:00That's right, I forgot about that.
- 48:01I thought you've had people listening to the show and I was
- 48:03like, well, my mom's not our kid.
- 48:04She knows what I mean by lockout tag.
- 48:06Out. Yeah.
- 48:07I was thinking of like the end when they go to there and
- 48:10they're running through the maze.
- 48:12OK. No, I'm talking about the worker
- 48:14that doesn't do a fucking lockout tag out.
- 48:16I got you. Shame.
- 48:18OK, we're ready. Yes.
- 48:20All right, let's do this, OK? So we start off seeing he
- 48:24Cronenberg as good guy BLOB and the factory plans to reduce
- 48:29three is and recycle. I got a list as crispy Chucky.
- 48:33Okay, I guess that's true. Cronenberg Chucky is more
- 48:35towards the end. Yeah, that's yeah, yeah, more
- 48:38shunted. Yes, yes.
- 48:39Yes. Either way, we we see them
- 48:43rebuilding him, they can make him stronger.
- 48:45They have the. Technology.
- 48:46The technology involves holding a stencil up to its face and
- 48:50it's like moving slightly as they're airbrushing.
- 48:52And I was like, oh, is this why dolls are sometimes a little
- 48:54wonky eyed? And then the guy was like, we
- 48:57don't normally do this by hand. And I was like, oh, why do you
- 48:59have a stencil ready? Then I had so many questions
- 49:02from this right off the bat, I'm just.
- 49:04Wondering why they are trying to restore it.
- 49:07Like, I mean, I know that they want to understand why it was
- 49:10the way it was, but like just fucking.
- 49:12Yeah. Why did they need to put it back
- 49:13together, get rid of it? Yeah.
- 49:16But yeah, So the whole country has heard Andy's story.
- 49:19But, you know, because he's a kid, they didn't believe it too
- 49:22much. But then the mom backed him up.
- 49:24So now she's in an institution. He's in foster care.
- 49:27The rumor is that an employee messed with the recordings, but
- 49:30the quality control report shows that that wasn't true.
- 49:33And they're going to put the doll back together to prove that
- 49:35it's a OK, but then when they go to put the eyes in, one of the
- 49:39text gets electrocuted with the lightning from Chopping Mall.
- 49:43I love how this just results in him getting heeded through a
- 49:46window. And then the top exec is like
- 49:49deal with this. Mr. Sullivan, I love Mr.
- 49:52Sullivan because he's a fucking asshole.
- 49:54He just walks. He, like his assistant, is
- 49:57catching him up, getting him up to speed, and then he sees that
- 50:00and then after the fact he's walking out.
- 50:03He tells him to put Chucky up his.
- 50:04Ass. Yeah, I like that.
- 50:05He's like, what do you want me to do with the Dolster?
- 50:07He's like shove it up your ass. Like just the way that he says
- 50:11it, shove it up your ass. It's.
- 50:12OK, Mr. Sullivan will get his and three and three.
- 50:15Yeah, I I love that. Yeah, I'm looking forward to.
- 50:18That yeah, he's not a sympathetic character and he
- 50:20doesn't seem at all portrayed by the fact that one of his workers
- 50:23just died. No, he's more concerned about
- 50:25whether or not he's going to shove it up his ass.
- 50:28So. So we see Andy.
- 50:30Yes, he's in a therapy session. Yes.
- 50:34And he's playing like a little card game with his therapist.
- 50:38And let me tell you, so on the tube here not to be episode, we
- 50:43talked about how in Tennessee they took children on field
- 50:45trips to fire departments. What are we getting here?
- 50:49In Tennessee, they also give children of divorced parents
- 50:54therapy in school and they're there was a board game I had to
- 51:01play. It was nowhere near as slick as
- 51:03this or they're just playing go fish and casually talking.
- 51:06But this board game was like you roll the dice and you do do do
- 51:12I'm on purple and the purple questions like your dad has
- 51:16married a new woman who has a 7 year old daughter and she wants
- 51:20to share your toys, but you don't want to share your toys.
- 51:23Wow. Sitting there going.
- 51:26What is that? Did they design a full blown
- 51:29board game for divorced kids? This exists.
- 51:34I don't know if it still does. But I remember even back then, I
- 51:39was close to Andy's age at the time and I was like, this is
- 51:42stupid. Like if you want to ask me how I
- 51:45feel about this is just ask me. But like fucking why are we
- 51:48playing this game? I thought that you were just
- 51:51gonna tell us like, hey, we did a school field trip to a
- 51:54therapist, and he's like, hey, this is the attack of questions.
- 51:59No. I was in a little side.
- 52:02Office in the school that like an unlabeled office that way
- 52:06like the other kids didn't know you were troubled oh man, I'm.
- 52:09Glad that we can kind of laugh about this, but that's.
- 52:12Dark. Oh, I've been laughing at my
- 52:13trauma for years. That's fine.
- 52:14OK, good. I'm glad that you know, it's
- 52:16it's we're there with this. Fucked up.
- 52:20But yeah, Andy is very much how I was.
- 52:23And he was like, OK, I see what you're doing.
- 52:25We'll just, we'll we'll do this. It's fine.
- 52:26Yeah. He's like, I just.
- 52:27I'm not gonna talk about this. You're just gonna tell me.
- 52:30I'm making sure. Yeah.
- 52:31And that's what the guy's saying.
- 52:32He's like, oh, it must have been a scary dream, huh?
- 52:35And I like in the cutscene he was like, the other kids will
- 52:38make fun of me again if they know I've had nightmares.
- 52:40So I'm like, oh poor baby I. Oh, Andy.
- 52:45So yeah, foster parents are discussing whether or not they
- 52:50should take it. Oh.
- 52:51Yeah, and they're just watching this full therapy session.
- 52:53Yeah, by the way. Yeah.
- 52:54That is. Why?
- 52:55That's super invasive. Right.
- 52:57Yeah. Who who signed the release forms
- 52:59for this? We know he doesn't have a legal.
- 53:01Guardian at this point. Yeah, yeah, like.
- 53:04Who's that? They are the legal.
- 53:05Guardians. Yeah, just.
- 53:06The foster home. That's just fucked up.
- 53:09Yeah, they tell them Andy. I mean, they know Andy, but they
- 53:12tell them the story of Andy and what all happened.
- 53:16And yeah, they take Andy and they're like, OK.
- 53:19That's yeah, Phil. Phil is not sure, but Joanne is
- 53:21really into it, so Phil's like I.
- 53:23Guess if you really. Want this one world are.
- 53:26Coming. Yeah, I suppose, if it'll make
- 53:28you happy. It's like you agreeing to watch
- 53:31like Hostel part three. Like it's the same kind of
- 53:34energy, like, OK, I guess. I guess I hope he doesn't.
- 53:38I have the same morbid curiosity I have with hostile part three.
- 53:42We'll see how fucked up this goes.
- 53:43And. Then I'm.
- 53:44Sick of it? So they're in the car and
- 53:46they're talking to Andy, and this is an important scene
- 53:49because it's just such a little moment that I thought was so
- 53:51sweet and so important later. But Joanne asks Andy what his
- 53:55favorite foods are and he says chocolate.
- 53:57And I kind of laugh because. He's.
- 53:59Eight. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 54:00It's like when you ask an 8 year old what's your favorite class
- 54:03and it's called recess. Yeah, yeah.
- 54:06And he says chocolate. And they're like, OK, but what
- 54:09else? And he goes, well, my mom used
- 54:10to make me eggs in the morning. I know, it's so sad.
- 54:14He's like, oh, I used to make my own breakfast, you know?
- 54:16It's like I used to spill orange juice and milk.
- 54:19Over. The cow and drop a tub of
- 54:21country croc on burnt. I like a bold brick of cereal,
- 54:24but you get a lot of orange juice mixed in there and then a
- 54:27big old glob of butter on top. That's my jam.
- 54:31The thing is that milk would curdle because of the acid in
- 54:34the orange juice mixing with the milk itself.
- 54:36That's how you make buttermilk. That's how I laugh it.
- 54:38Anyway. It he they just make a note
- 54:43about the eggs and it's important.
- 54:44That is sweet. And then they almost And then
- 54:46Phil, well, yeah, I said Phil almost crashes into a
- 54:50foreshadowing semi truck. Oh yeah, boy, man, Can you
- 54:54imagine being traumatized by one of the biggest things in the
- 54:58nation like that? You just have this fucking good
- 55:01guy doll all up in your face all the time.
- 55:04All the time, man. It's gotta suck, Yeah.
- 55:07So yeah, they make it to the house and Amy's checking out the
- 55:13home. He's not allowed to touch
- 55:15anything, but he does ask about the heirloom that he's not
- 55:18allowed to touch. And she's like, Oh, well, it's
- 55:20my great grandma's. And she gave it to my grandma,
- 55:22who gave it to my mom, who gave it to me.
- 55:24And because he's 8 and he doesn't understand social
- 55:27nuance, he said, who are you gonna give it to?
- 55:29And the heart. God, she's such a good fucking
- 55:31actress. The heartbreak and the
- 55:33uncomfortableness she's feeling in that moment.
- 55:35Nobody says anything, it's just silence.
- 55:37Yeah, yeah, cuz he doesn't know that.
- 55:39He asks such a gut punch of a question.
- 55:43Yeah, I like, but that's smart writing right there.
- 55:47Yeah, we we get to understand these two characters through
- 55:52Andy questioning about that, and that was really well done.
- 55:56Yes, it was. It was remarkably well done.
- 55:58Again, like I said, this is such a nuanced thing with them.
- 56:02Yeah, but it is really well written.
- 56:04Yeah, super well written. So Andy goes upstairs.
- 56:08Joanne just said go find your room, kid.
- 56:10Yeah, just pick a room. So he does, and it's Kyle's
- 56:14room. Kyle's just in there being a
- 56:16badass like she is. Yeah, she's like.
- 56:18Smoking in her little leather hat.
- 56:20And yeah, Joanne comes out finally and she's like, Kyle,
- 56:23you still have an unpacked, you've been here 3 weeks.
- 56:25She goes. I've never made it longer than a
- 56:26month anywhere. And it's still going to be true.
- 56:30Oh, yeah. And she's Joanne says, you know,
- 56:34dinner soon, Please come downstairs.
- 56:37And Kyle's like, I've got to work.
- 56:38I'm going to be 18 soon, then I'll be on my own.
- 56:40Kyle is just one gut punch after another.
- 56:43And she's so matter of fact about all of this.
- 56:45I feel like she did have a sense of feeling like she was at home
- 56:51for a second year, though, because Joanne's like, well, you
- 56:54live in this house and you live in these rules, so we would like
- 56:57for you to be a there for dinner tonight.
- 56:59And then she closes the door. And then I, I feel like the
- 57:02actor kind of played like a little like slight smirk like,
- 57:04OK, cool. That was nice to like, have, you
- 57:06know? Yeah, family, wife.
- 57:08Right here, yeah. Alright, don't ground me.
- 57:12So this is when Joanne takes Andy to his room that has
- 57:16clearly been lived in plenty of times and says, I made these
- 57:19curtains for you. I bet blue is your favorite
- 57:20color. You were just saying that cuz
- 57:22he's a boy. Yeah, I.
- 57:23Bet that's that was not my favorite color.
- 57:26No, I've told this story on the show before, I think, But I
- 57:30remember in like it was second grade, I had a blue lunch box
- 57:35and I got made fun of because that was a boy of color.
- 57:37And there's a little boy in my class who had a pink lunch box.
- 57:39It was the exact same lunch box as mine, just pink.
- 57:42And everybody celebrating them. No, nobody said anything.
- 57:44They probably made fun of. Them too.
- 57:46No, they never said shit to him. I.
- 57:47Guarantee you they did, you just weren't there.
- 57:50Trust me as a boy that like wore a cotton candy colored shirt in
- 57:55school I got made fun of for. I can picture that shirt.
- 57:58Perfect. I know the shirt.
- 57:59From the shirt, yeah. If you guys have followed our
- 58:02social media, you may have seen that.
- 58:04So he starts checking out the room.
- 58:07Yeah, she's like, there's so many toys in the closet and he
- 58:10opens it up and a good guy dull just dumbles from the top shelf.
- 58:13Yeah, but don't worry, it's not Chucky.
- 58:15It's Tommy. Yeah, it's Tommy.
- 58:16Yeah. And he wants to play.
- 58:18Yeah, so we see the toy. I called him the Toy Veep.
- 58:23I don't know if he's actually a vice president.
- 58:25I feel like he's lower level. Assistant.
- 58:27He's definitely assistant, He's important, but he's not upper
- 58:30level. Like he's important enough that
- 58:32he talks directly to the executive guy.
- 58:35He's putting in his his time. Yeah, he's going to get a big
- 58:40boy job, but right now he's an assistant.
- 58:42I think so, yeah. He's walking now.
- 58:44He's got Chucky with him. He can't fit Chucky in the trunk
- 58:47of the car cuz that's a big ass stall.
- 58:49So he's like, all right. Fuck out of it.
- 58:50Chuck is chunky. He is chunky, Yeah, he's been
- 58:52eating a little bit, so he puts him in the back seat.
- 58:55And he's got a car phone cuz it's 1990 and that's how you
- 58:59know, he's not completely lower level.
- 59:02He's got a fancy enough car to have a car phone well.
- 59:04This movie did release on the Internet, so that's true.
- 59:07Al Gore probably gave him that car phone personally.
- 59:11He wrote this scene probably, Yeah, he probably was trying.
- 59:13To he funded it. Yeah.
- 59:14Directly producer, Silent producer.
- 59:19Al Gore. So he you guys.
- 59:22If you can, please just. Spread the rumor online that Al
- 59:25Gore invented the in addition to inventing the Internet that Al
- 59:28Gore also produced. Child's play to you.
- 59:31That would be amazing. Thank you.
- 59:33So he calls Gabriella and he said yes, of course I've got the
- 59:38vodka to celebrate our two week anniversary.
- 59:41Here's the thing, high maintenance to celebrate a two
- 59:45week anniversary, but she wants vodka.
- 59:46I feel like you could probably get her like some brunettes or
- 59:48Heaven's Soul and it's fine. You want to know what's real
- 59:50dirty? What?
- 59:52I think I might be misremembering this, or I think
- 59:55I might be remembering it exactly correctly.
- 59:58So you're either misremembering it or remembering it.
- 1:00:00So one or the other got it. That's a great way for you to
- 1:00:04just like set yourself up to talk on your ass and have no
- 1:00:08repercussions. But we watched the extended TV
- 1:00:12cuts for this right here and. There's with sci-fi Syfy in the
- 1:00:16corner. Sci-fi.
- 1:00:17So on sci-fi, if you were to watch this, there is an extended
- 1:00:21version of the scene where he after he gets the liquor, he
- 1:00:23uses said car phone to call his wife.
- 1:00:28He's like, don't worry honey, I'll be home in a little bit.
- 1:00:31He's cheating. With this on his wife and on
- 1:00:35Gabriella. No, Gabriella is the one that
- 1:00:38he's cheating with, I guess. Yeah.
- 1:00:40Gabrielle. Maybe Gabrielle knows Gabrielle.
- 1:00:44Yeah, Gabrielle and mine know. But she might not know.
- 1:00:48I don't know. He's a she's planning.
- 1:00:49To celebrate an anniversary, I don't know, a two week
- 1:00:52anniversary, It's hard to say. Damn, you've been cheating for
- 1:00:54two weeks. Hell yeah, brother.
- 1:00:55Come over here. Give me the vodka.
- 1:00:57Kept the secret of it two weeks. Yeah, you get the. $7.00 bottle
- 1:01:01of vine. Yeah, the good can.
- 1:01:04Yeah, yeah, yeah. This guy's a scumbag, so.
- 1:01:06Yeah, so that's why it's not all that sad.
- 1:01:09And here's The thing is that it's not all that sad because he
- 1:01:11goes into the liquor store and the guy's like cash only and he
- 1:01:14goes. This is a gold.
- 1:01:15Card it's good as cash. OK, you know what, I kind of
- 1:01:18agree with your boss. Shove it up your ass.
- 1:01:20Like shove it up your ass. Shove it up your ass.
- 1:01:23Shove it up your ass, Limp Bizkit.
- 1:01:27I don't remember that song. I did it all for the Nike.
- 1:01:29No. Is it the same?
- 1:01:30Song so you can take that cookie and stick it up your.
- 1:01:33Ass stick it up your. Ass OK Oh yeah, girl in biscuit
- 1:01:36always pulling. Through for us, always.
- 1:01:38Fred Durst. Fred Durst is the one we can all
- 1:01:40rely on whether or not we want to.
- 1:01:42Yeah, he may have also produced this movie.
- 1:01:45I may be speaking on my acid. May not be.
- 1:01:47But you might be misremembering, or you might be remembering.
- 1:01:49There we go. One or the other?
- 1:01:51Yep. So he gets said vodka, gets back
- 1:01:55in this car, starts to drive off and he gets a old Billy bag
- 1:01:59about Chucky. And Chucky in this time that the
- 1:02:03guy has made the point to go get his cash and whatnot as his car
- 1:02:07is parked on the fucking St. This is not a wide enough lane
- 1:02:10for street parking. He Chucky has used the car phone
- 1:02:14to call the foster center to ask where Andy is and they asked for
- 1:02:22no proof of. His I was going to say like how,
- 1:02:25how are you going to give away a kids information?
- 1:02:28Like, there is no fucking way. Especially because they're
- 1:02:31foster kids, a lot of them are coming from like violent home
- 1:02:35situations. Why would you?
- 1:02:37Not only that, but he's also famous for this situation.
- 1:02:41People know about this kid. It's that's super dangerous that
- 1:02:45they did that. So yeah, he knows where that's
- 1:02:48at. So yeah, he's got this guy.
- 1:02:49He's got him. He car Jackson.
- 1:02:51He car Jackson. Yeah, makes him drive to a park
- 1:02:54in park in the parking lot, and then he shoots him and it's a
- 1:02:57water gun and the guy's like, Oh my God.
- 1:03:02And then Chucky takes a dry cleaning black bag and yeah,
- 1:03:05yeah, what is a Billy bag? I feel like you ask us every
- 1:03:09single time and it's a thing that originated.
- 1:03:11On the show. Literally never heard you say
- 1:03:13that. No, you Billy bag like Billy
- 1:03:16bag. From SAW.
- 1:03:17No, no, from Black Christmas. He takes the cellophane bag and
- 1:03:22he's. Billy.
- 1:03:22Too. OK.
- 1:03:24Yeah, he is Billy. Yeah, he is the Billy Billy
- 1:03:28bagged. I get it.
- 1:03:29Yeah, I was thinking like a Billy club.
- 1:03:32I thought it was maybe related. Every time on this show that
- 1:03:35Billy bagging comes up I have to explain it and I'm getting tired
- 1:03:38of it. I feel like you need to
- 1:03:39understand this shit at this point.
- 1:03:42Well Travis, I think you need to remember that the book The
- 1:03:44Rainbow Fish fucking exists, and I don't need to explain that
- 1:03:47every time I mention it as well. I don't know what you're talking
- 1:03:50about, God. OK so Joanne is reading to Andy
- 1:03:54while Chucky moves or kills Tommy and buries him outside.
- 1:04:00I wrote mercs and I thought it's it moves for a second.
- 1:04:03Oh yeah, I like how he just straight up like destroys this
- 1:04:06doll. And all of his.
- 1:04:08Anger at being in a doll's body he can direct to another doll
- 1:04:13and I feel like it's therapeutic for him in a way.
- 1:04:15God damn though, I love how this is shot.
- 1:04:17I love it's the doll. Looks so fantastic out there.
- 1:04:21Digging the hole and then burying him in the ground
- 1:04:24underneath the swing set. And it's important to note that
- 1:04:26when he Tommy, he used the heirloom statue, the precious.
- 1:04:31Yeah, bullshit. The one that Andy got scolded at
- 1:04:33like observing earlier. Yeah.
- 1:04:35And so the next morning when Andy and Kyle wake up, Phil asks
- 1:04:39who broke this? Because it was very important to
- 1:04:41Joanne. And Kyle was like, I was at
- 1:04:43work. And Andy was like.
- 1:04:44I would. I didn't do it.
- 1:04:46Chucky did. It and feels like.
- 1:04:47Bullshit. You guys are both grounded.
- 1:04:49I don't think he's blaming Chucky.
- 1:04:50No, no, that was a call back to our last Child's Play episode
- 1:04:53where he's like. Chucky did it, yeah.
- 1:04:55Poor little Andy. And Kyle is mad later because
- 1:05:00she can't go. It was her one night off.
- 1:05:02She was supposed to go on a date, but they're grounded so
- 1:05:04she can't go and she's stuck there doing laundry.
- 1:05:07But nobody can say mad at Andy. I love the scene.
- 1:05:10He's like, hey, I bet I can say your name backwards.
- 1:05:12And then he just turns around like Kyle.
- 1:05:15And she's like. So adorable.
- 1:05:17See her like, she's like. God damn it, I.
- 1:05:19Can't be mad at this fucking. That's the moment that won her
- 1:05:22over. It's also funny that she's like
- 1:05:24here hold this and hand him a cigarette and he just takes a
- 1:05:26puff at. And she's like, you can't do
- 1:05:29that. He goes, well, I just wanted to
- 1:05:30taste it. Why do you want to do it if it's
- 1:05:31so bad? And she goes, well, I'm a grown
- 1:05:32up and grown-ups are allowed to do things that are bad for them.
- 1:05:35God, she's learned some bad lessons over the years.
- 1:05:38But also that's accurate. To to Andy's credit though, I
- 1:05:41feel like he's like a seasoned kid at this point.
- 1:05:44I keep smoking a cigarette, seen some shit.
- 1:05:46Yeah. Fucking doll tried to kill me
- 1:05:48last year. My mom's got taken away from me.
- 1:05:52Less. Yeah, that's his energy right
- 1:05:56there. Yeah, he should have just, like,
- 1:05:57embraced it. And so he climbs up the stairs,
- 1:06:00and when he opens the top of the basement, like the the stairway
- 1:06:04from the basement to the kitchen, he overhears Phil
- 1:06:07telling Joanne. And like, he's got too much
- 1:06:09trauma, he's too much trouble. We just can't handle it.
- 1:06:11And Joanne's like, I like him. Yeah, she sucks up for him.
- 1:06:14I feel so bad for him here. And then he like closes the door
- 1:06:18and then pretends to enter the room without.
- 1:06:21Hearing no, no, he still sneaks by and then he goes and grabs
- 1:06:24the dog. Oh yeah, he gets Tommy.
- 1:06:25Yeah, or Chucky. Yeah, and he sees the doll
- 1:06:28sitting there and he goes, I don't like you.
- 1:06:31And the dog goes, Hi, I'm Tommy. I love how the eye goes to the
- 1:06:35side so like, you know, he has to think about it for a second.
- 1:06:39Because, and I love this moment because it shows how smart
- 1:06:43Chucky is, that he recognizes how smart Andy.
- 1:06:47Is like they. Get each other.
- 1:06:49It's a very like hero, villain like Saga with each other.
- 1:06:52Because he knows that Andy's gonna know the name of this
- 1:06:55fucking doll that was in the house.
- 1:06:56Yeah, this is just I love it. Hi, I'm Tommy.
- 1:07:00And so he grabs him and he checks to make sure he's got
- 1:07:03batteries. Smart.
- 1:07:04And then when he walks past, he makes a point of being heard and
- 1:07:07showing that he's holding the doll to be like, look, it's
- 1:07:10fine. I don't have trauma.
- 1:07:11I can handle this doll. Poor it's.
- 1:07:13Got batteries and I told it I hate it.
- 1:07:15So, like, we're cool. Yeah.
- 1:07:16Oh. Man I feel so bad for him.
- 1:07:19Here, Kyle and Andy are just playing on the swings together
- 1:07:21and that's. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:24Kyle just wants to sit there and he's like, I'll push you.
- 1:07:27And she goes, no, that's fine. And he goes, no, ask me.
- 1:07:29It's fun. And she's just like, she gives
- 1:07:32in and enjoys the moment with him.
- 1:07:34And I think it's important, too, that she has a like, she's only
- 1:07:3617, and yeah, she's about to be on her own, but she's still a
- 1:07:39kid. Yeah, she's.
- 1:07:40And she's never had this moment to be a kid.
- 1:07:43Yeah, I I like that she's found like another foster kid to, you
- 1:07:47know, bond with her. Also, you know, Chucky is off to
- 1:07:50the side. Andy has him set up out there on
- 1:07:53a chair and he sees like he's worried that they're going to be
- 1:07:57digging up the burial of. Very.
- 1:07:59Shallow grave. And on one hand, I get why he
- 1:08:02dug it under the swing, because that's where the grass is.
- 1:08:05You drag your feet. Yeah, like, stop it.
- 1:08:07But he didn't take a deep enough grave.
- 1:08:09No, but it was very smart on his part.
- 1:08:11I will give him credit. Like he he had a hit and a miss
- 1:08:14with it. Like if you dig it there for
- 1:08:17sure, but do it deeper. That way you don't have to worry
- 1:08:19about somebody kicking the doll up.
- 1:08:20Yeah, that's true. So yeah, Andy asks about Kyle's
- 1:08:25parents. And she said her dad left before
- 1:08:28she was born in her mom gave her up when she was three.
- 1:08:31He said, do you remember her at all?
- 1:08:32And she said, well, I worked really hard to forget.
- 1:08:34And I'm going to call some bullshit on that because I don't
- 1:08:37feel like you have to work really hard to forget a lot of
- 1:08:40memories from when you were three.
- 1:08:41No, yeah, it's pretty easy to do naturally.
- 1:08:45So that night, Chucky ties Andy up in his sleep and he said
- 1:08:49we're going to play a game called Hide The.
- 1:08:52Soul. Dude, how do people So like,
- 1:08:54yeah, he starts to do that, but then Kyle interrupts it because
- 1:08:57she's climbing through his window, and then she walks in
- 1:09:01and sees him all tied up and she's like, hey, Andy, how did
- 1:09:03you do this to yourself? Like, how the fuck do you?
- 1:09:06My thought would be what the fuck are?
- 1:09:10Phil and Joanne doing. Here Like, is this the foster
- 1:09:13home I really want to be in right now?
- 1:09:15So she's trying to untie him. But at this point, Phil and
- 1:09:18Joanne have heard the commotion and they come in and they're
- 1:09:20like, Kyle, why would you do this?
- 1:09:22And then Phil gets really aggro and he's like, this is.
- 1:09:25A doll. It's a piece.
- 1:09:26Of plastic. His name's Tommy.
- 1:09:27Oh, you want him out of the house?
- 1:09:28And then he tosses him to the bottom of the basement and he's
- 1:09:31like, good. He's gone.
- 1:09:32Yeah, just leaves him right there.
- 1:09:34And we see that Chucky is bleeding after that toss, so we
- 1:09:38know he's starting to become human again.
- 1:09:40So Andy's first day of school, Chucky has made his way into the
- 1:09:44classroom. There, he snuck out.
- 1:09:48Joanne packed him an egg salad sandwich.
- 1:09:50And I just thought that was so sweet because, like he mentioned
- 1:09:54the eggs and I yeah, I. When we were watching that, you
- 1:09:56went, yeah, it's like me whenever I heard to do anything.
- 1:10:00Yeah. She tried to incorporate that in
- 1:10:04another meal, too. It was sweet.
- 1:10:05It's a good attention to detail there.
- 1:10:08She's a good person. Yeah, I think.
- 1:10:09She genuinely means well. She does.
- 1:10:12She does, yeah. It gets complicated later.
- 1:10:17So Andy's trying to talk to Kyle about all that's happened, and
- 1:10:21he's upset that she doesn't believe him either.
- 1:10:23And it just, it's so heartbreaking because she, like,
- 1:10:25drops him off at the bus and he's like, you don't believe me
- 1:10:28either. You're just like everyone else.
- 1:10:30I know I feel so bad and I feel like she of all people would
- 1:10:33maybe like buy into it. Like, you know what?
- 1:10:36People probably haven't believed or yeah, believed her most of
- 1:10:40her life too. He is like clinging to the
- 1:10:44undercarriage of the bus. So he's Chucky.
- 1:10:48Chucky is not Andy. Yeah, he's doing.
- 1:10:50Fuck, what's the movie? Cape Fear.
- 1:10:52Cape Fear. Yeah, which is great because
- 1:10:54they referenced that in the TV show later.
- 1:10:58Do. They yeah, they do the Cape
- 1:10:59Fear. That's their whole plan to get
- 1:11:01him at the end of season one. Remember, they're like we're
- 1:11:03gonna do Cape Fear. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:11:06Yeah. Cool Don Mancini, man.
- 1:11:10He's he's, he's a. Smart.
- 1:11:12One, Yeah, So while he's outside aggressively throwing a
- 1:11:16dodgeball. Against a training fence.
- 1:11:17I fucking. Love that man.
- 1:11:20Chucky's inside the classroom going.
- 1:11:22Through their their pop quiz paperwork.
- 1:11:24I would just love if one of the teachers just walked over there,
- 1:11:26grabbed him by the shoulders, like no, no, just like twisted
- 1:11:30him just a little bit. I went.
- 1:11:32I like. Felissa rose from Terrifier too.
- 1:11:35To like run up and be like. Andy.
- 1:11:39There's a perfectly fine possum behind that dumpster over there.
- 1:11:44Go check that shit out. It's Jersey it.
- 1:11:48No, wait, he grew up in Jersey, but this is in Chicago.
- 1:11:51Just kidding, I got. It all, yeah, it all goes to
- 1:11:53Jersey eventually in the show. But yeah, this is Chicago.
- 1:11:56Yeah, Chicago. I was gonna say it would make
- 1:12:00sense for Felicitous to pop up and hack and sag.
- 1:12:02Yeah. But that's that's not till
- 1:12:04later, though. So yeah, he gets back into the
- 1:12:08classroom, one of the kids is being a bully, and the teacher
- 1:12:11immediately blames Andy for it. And she's like, you should be
- 1:12:13trying to get on my good side. And before that, he finds Chucky
- 1:12:17in his cubby. He's just in there waiting for
- 1:12:19him, which is fucking creepy. So yeah, he Chucky, while they
- 1:12:25were out there in recess, went over to the papers and was
- 1:12:28looking at all of the homework that was turned in, and then he
- 1:12:31found Andy's paper. And he wrote fuck you.
- 1:12:33Bitch, so Miss Kettlewell sees that writers, they're about to
- 1:12:36leave and she makes Andy's safer detention and then she abuses
- 1:12:40the fuck out of him by locking him in the classroom by himself.
- 1:12:44There's no way that's. Safe.
- 1:12:46No man this kids fucked up man I I feel so bad for all the shit
- 1:12:50that he has to go through. Yeah, so he's trapped in there.
- 1:12:54She chucked Chucky into the full blown closet, as you said,
- 1:12:59because she saw Andy staring at him and thought that he would
- 1:13:01try and play with her while she's not supervising him.
- 1:13:05Yeah. So she locks him in the closet
- 1:13:08and then she locks Andy in the classroom and she walks away and
- 1:13:12Andy goes over to the closet and Chucky tries to, like, beg him
- 1:13:14to let him out. And he's like, I don't have the
- 1:13:15fucking keys. What?
- 1:13:17What is wrong? With you, I'm not.
- 1:13:18Yeah, he does. He wants to get out there, so he
- 1:13:19climbs out the window. Yeah, and Miss Kettlewell comes
- 1:13:22back and she doesn't see Andy and she thinks that he somehow
- 1:13:26got in the closet. She she goes in there and she
- 1:13:28looks around and then she dies the most dramatic fucking death.
- 1:13:31And that's saying something in this franchise because she looks
- 1:13:35around and she eventually pulls back some outfits because they
- 1:13:39have, like you said. They have a full blown wardrobe.
- 1:13:42And Chucky comes out and like stabs her with like a yardstick
- 1:13:45or something and she. He whacks her with it.
- 1:13:48Yeah. She flails back, knocks over
- 1:13:51three. Desks and it's like.
- 1:13:54I love this though man this is probably my favorite shot in the
- 1:13:58entire movie. I love how he takes the roar and
- 1:14:01he's just walking to her and just slapping it on.
- 1:14:03His head. Oh my God, it's so well done.
- 1:14:06And then he. Piece the shit out of.
- 1:14:07Her with it, yeah. So at home that night, Phil
- 1:14:12ain't having it. He said.
- 1:14:14This child is fucked up. We wanted a good one.
- 1:14:17It's defective, let's send it back.
- 1:14:19These aren't his exact words, but it's the jist.
- 1:14:22Yeah, it's basically. It sucks.
- 1:14:24It sucks the way he treats these foster kids and.
- 1:14:27It turns into a fight between him and Joanne because Joanne
- 1:14:29really wants to keep Andy. And Kyle comes in and comforts
- 1:14:33him, and she kind of like, she comforts him in the way that she
- 1:14:35knows how, the only way that she's ever been able to comfort
- 1:14:38herself where she's like, you know, you have yourself to
- 1:14:42depend on now. And that's, you know, you're
- 1:14:44strong, you're in this world, you've got to just rely on
- 1:14:47yourself. And you just got to learn to
- 1:14:49that. You're the only one.
- 1:14:50Dude, it's kind of impressive watching Alex Vincent here
- 1:14:54because like, I feel like you could see this kid grow in this
- 1:14:57moment. The way he like takes that
- 1:14:59information is. Heartbreaking.
- 1:15:01Yeah. So Andy sneaks out that night,
- 1:15:06really took her words to heart. And he sneaks down to the
- 1:15:08kitchen. It takes the electric Carver and
- 1:15:10he goes down to the basement and he is going to go fight Chucky.
- 1:15:14And of course, because during Phil's whole tirade, he had made
- 1:15:17a point of being like, look, see, there's Tommy still there
- 1:15:19at the basement stairs. Yeah, and.
- 1:15:21He's like, he hasn't moved. And so when Andy opens the door,
- 1:15:25of course Tommy's not there because it's not Tommy.
- 1:15:28It was Chucky and Chucky's hiding.
- 1:15:29So he gets down there and he's like doing this whole search for
- 1:15:32him and he's like trying to fight him.
- 1:15:34And it's it's this whole like cat and mouse game.
- 1:15:37At one point he's stabbing the laundry.
- 1:15:39God, Can you imagine? And if Phil hadn't died in the
- 1:15:41scene, what he would say the next morning when he sees the
- 1:15:43laundry saw cut up. Man, that's the thing, like I I
- 1:15:46love seeing these moments when they realize like, oh shit, he's
- 1:15:50been telling the truth, which is why it happens here, because
- 1:15:52Phil goes down there because he hears a commotion up in the
- 1:15:55bedroom. She's like, all right, I I heard
- 1:15:57him. I heard the noise.
- 1:15:58I'm going to go investigate it. So as he's walking down the
- 1:16:01stairs, Chucky took the Carver, cut his leg, and we know.
- 1:16:06He ends up no, he gets. Him stronger.
- 1:16:08Yeah, there's like a laundry line down there for drawing the
- 1:16:11clothing. He ties him up and then he drops
- 1:16:14him on his head and it breaks his neck.
- 1:16:16I. And I like how he, yeah, he
- 1:16:17hangs him upside down and he says I'm like, hey, Phil or
- 1:16:20whatever. Like he talks to him like he's
- 1:16:22like, yeah, this is fucking me. Like I have been a killer doll
- 1:16:25this entire time. And then Joanne comes down there
- 1:16:27and sees that Phil is dead and tells Andy to stay the fuck away
- 1:16:31from her. Dude I like he could have
- 1:16:34fallen. It's not and he's fault by the
- 1:16:37fault. Like do due process understand
- 1:16:40what the fuck happened? Maybe talk to Andy and
- 1:16:42understand what happened. Like God, there's just and I
- 1:16:46can't. Imagine what she's going
- 1:16:48through. I can't.
- 1:16:48Imagine how I'd react. To anybody, if I found you dead
- 1:16:52and somebody was near your body, I can't imagine how I would
- 1:16:55speak to them. Yeah, I God forbid.
- 1:16:57And I got to I got to knock on wood for that because that's
- 1:17:00even a speak that out loud feels awful.
- 1:17:02But also, I hope to God I wouldn't take it out on a child
- 1:17:06that way. Like a fucking kid.
- 1:17:08Like if yeah. Like oh like.
- 1:17:11The kid hasn't shown any mean spirit or menace at all.
- 1:17:15The entire time he's been there. He's been a good kid.
- 1:17:17And then Kyle in a role that you can tell she's.
- 1:17:20Been in more time since she should have ever had to.
- 1:17:23Is being the adult to Joanne and is comforting her.
- 1:17:26Joanne's like he was right. We never should have brought
- 1:17:29this kid in. Phil would still be around if we
- 1:17:31didn't have Andy here. And Kyle is comforting her.
- 1:17:33Yeah, in this moment. And then she packs Andy's
- 1:17:37suitcase and brings it to him and just does kind of like,
- 1:17:40ships him back to the foster home.
- 1:17:42Yeah. And the woman, the leader.
- 1:17:45There takes him back and he as he's leaving, he said you got to
- 1:17:49be. Careful, he's still in the
- 1:17:50house. He will come for you.
- 1:17:53So Kyle is outside? And she is on the.
- 1:17:56Swing she had thrown out. She saw the Chucky doll in the
- 1:17:59basement, tosses in the trash can, and she gets on the swing.
- 1:18:02And I think part of it is because she doesn't want to be
- 1:18:04in the house with Joanne. And then part of it is also
- 1:18:06because she's sad. Yeah, that's where her an idiot
- 1:18:09been. And so she's swinging and she's.
- 1:18:11Kicking her feet around and she unearthed the Tommy doll and
- 1:18:14she's like, well, that's weird because I definitely just threw
- 1:18:16it in the trash can. She walks over to the trash can,
- 1:18:19nothing in there. And then she panics and she's
- 1:18:22like, Joanne, Joanne. She runs up there.
- 1:18:24She hears Joanne's sewing machine going and she's like,
- 1:18:26well, that's good. Except it's not, no.
- 1:18:30Go in there. And you see Joanne?
- 1:18:32Being. Killed.
- 1:18:33Yep. It's a bit unfortunate that her
- 1:18:34death, dude even her death was off camera.
- 1:18:37Do you think that the actor was on?
- 1:18:39I wonder if they filmed that and see she had grabbed a dagger
- 1:18:44before she walked. In there, but Chucky got the
- 1:18:46jump on her, ends up knocking the dagger out of her hands,
- 1:18:49takes it and then is holding her hostage.
- 1:18:51Yeah, So he puts her, he makes her drive to the foster center,
- 1:18:56and she's slightly speeding, and he tries to tell her to outgun
- 1:19:00the police when they want to pull her over.
- 1:19:03And then she's like, it's a station wagon.
- 1:19:05And you looked at me and you're like, I feel like your station
- 1:19:07wagon could have gone faster than that.
- 1:19:08And I was like, yeah, Serafina could have done it.
- 1:19:11No, I asked, how does that feel? Because it was funny.
- 1:19:14Because Chuck is like. OK.
- 1:19:15And he accepted. All right, we're not going to
- 1:19:17outrun anybody in this thing. So she pulls over.
- 1:19:20There was a reason that I had to do cruise.
- 1:19:23Control on Sarafina because when I get on the.
- 1:19:25Highway. I tend to Do you go fine.
- 1:19:27Yeah. And with Sarafina, she could do
- 1:19:29it. Outrun a cop.
- 1:19:31I don't know. I never would have tried.
- 1:19:34Probably couldn't have outrun a cop but like.
- 1:19:36I still could have. Floored it.
- 1:19:38She was acting like the station wagon couldn't go about 50.
- 1:19:41I could afford a golf cart. Doesn't mean I'm going to do
- 1:19:44well. OK.
- 1:19:48So they get pulled over here. And he, the cop, is confused.
- 1:19:54And she was like, well, you. Know those dolls that?
- 1:19:55Pee. This one bleeds.
- 1:19:56That's how she explains it. His nose is bleeding but I also
- 1:19:59like how Chucky just. Drops the whole image and he's
- 1:20:03like, hi, I'm Tommy. Like he says it with his like,
- 1:20:06normal Chucky voice, like, yeah. And the guy doesn't even
- 1:20:10question. He's like, all right, go about
- 1:20:11your day and then this because he also tells.
- 1:20:15Kyle to buckle up so she gets a. Bright.
- 1:20:17Idea. And she slams on the brakes
- 1:20:19after she's gotten some speed and it throws Chucky out and she
- 1:20:21tries to run him over. It doesn't end up working.
- 1:20:24Yeah. And she crashes near a gate and
- 1:20:27uh oh, it's right near the foster center.
- 1:20:29And what ends up happening is that he makes her go inside and
- 1:20:32pull the fire alarm. So everybody is leaving.
- 1:20:35And as Andy and Grace are the last two out.
- 1:20:39Gracie's. Kyle sitting there next to the
- 1:20:42fire alarm, she goes, Kyle, is this your idea of a joke?
- 1:20:45And she goes, I didn't do it. Chucky did.
- 1:20:47Yeah. And you, there's like, a moment
- 1:20:49and you can kind of see, like, where she's just, like, coming
- 1:20:52to terms with everything that's happened.
- 1:20:54And also, like, I feel like she's saying it in a way that's
- 1:20:58almost an apology to Andy, where she's like, oh, my God, I get
- 1:21:01it. That's the thing that like
- 1:21:02whenever, like, no words. Spoken as soon as Andy's walking
- 1:21:05down the stairs and. And he stops and he sees her
- 1:21:08holding Chucky. And like, you can see in her
- 1:21:11face she's like, like, I get it, I'm sorry.
- 1:21:13Like you can get in. And Andy's like, oh, fuck.
- 1:21:15OK. Yeah.
- 1:21:16So Grace pulls them into her office.
- 1:21:19And Chucky comes alive, shoves Kyle into a closet, stabs Grace,
- 1:21:24takes Andy and they climb into the back of a truck.
- 1:21:29Yeah, a mail truck. Yeah, it makes Andy run into the
- 1:21:31truck to perform the. Ritual so Kyle runs out she sees
- 1:21:35the truck going she. Manages to get the car running
- 1:21:38and follows along behind and she can see that Chucky is
- 1:21:43performing the ritual. So.
- 1:21:45She pulls ahead, tries to stop the truck.
- 1:21:50And the guy? Speedwagon speed, yes, and call
- 1:21:52it Speedwagon for nothing, Aria. Speedwagon He.
- 1:21:56I heard it from a friend. Anyway, so she gets the truck to
- 1:21:59pull over. The guy is not.
- 1:22:01Amused at all but when? She runs around to the back of
- 1:22:03the truck, it's they're gone. And then she sees that the
- 1:22:06factory play Pals is right. There good.
- 1:22:10Guy factory so she. She runs in.
- 1:22:13There at this point. Andy has been like knocked out
- 1:22:17and Chucky has performs the entire ritual but nothing he's
- 1:22:22been. In the body too long and this.
- 1:22:25Is a fucking problem and now it's no longer about getting
- 1:22:29into Andy's body and it's about vengeance and I love this
- 1:22:34setting of all of. These good guy dolls just
- 1:22:37stacked all over the place. I have a lot of questions
- 1:22:39though, because one, what are these fucking palettes?
- 1:22:41They don't look like real palettes.
- 1:22:42It's weird the way they're set up too.
- 1:22:44Why do we have zip tied just two good guy boxes together?
- 1:22:483 Why are they not? In like a.
- 1:22:49Large case. That seems like a more efficient
- 1:22:51way to ship these around. I have a lot of questions.
- 1:22:54Even if they're not going to be like in a case, they would still
- 1:22:56be like wrapped. Yes, you have great questions.
- 1:22:59This is not going to work. In a realistic factory.
- 1:23:02But if you're making making a movie set in the factory,
- 1:23:05fucking awesome. It makes for a great set piece.
- 1:23:08So this is really what you have to ask these questions.
- 1:23:12Well, you don't have to ask them.
- 1:23:13I do. It is my job.
- 1:23:18So yeah. Ritual can't be.
- 1:23:20Performed so Kyle Knox box is on top of Chucky, which
- 1:23:24incapacitates them temporarily enough for Andy to run away with
- 1:23:28Kyle, and the machinery is running with nobody around.
- 1:23:31Also makes no fucking sense there's one guy in.
- 1:23:34A control. Room watching that does not make
- 1:23:36any sense. It doesn't make any sense and.
- 1:23:38For a myriad of reasons. I won't go into my past life but
- 1:23:41just trust me on this so they make it to this roller chute.
- 1:23:46So they're going to climb up and get out there.
- 1:23:48Kyle makes it all the way up to the top, but Andy makes it
- 1:23:51almost there and then loses his grip and slides to the bottom,
- 1:23:54which Chuck is waiting for. Yeah.
- 1:23:56Starts following him. He.
- 1:23:57Manages to get. Back up there and then they drop
- 1:23:59the cake, the gate on Chucky's arm and he ends up having to rip
- 1:24:03it off, rip his hand off and this there's no.
- 1:24:06Way they could have known. But it's fucking amazing that in
- 1:24:10the remake Mark Hamill voices buddy with the missing arm.
- 1:24:15No, I didn't even. They should have done that in
- 1:24:18that. One, it's amazing.
- 1:24:20It is pretty funny. It's one of those.
- 1:24:23Beautiful like little. Hindsight things where?
- 1:24:25It's like this is just such a happy little coincidence.
- 1:24:28Yeah, so. He ash Williams the dagger into
- 1:24:33his stomach. I love that and I wish that we
- 1:24:36had more of that. That's going to be I've already
- 1:24:39thought about. That's going to be part of the
- 1:24:40cover. I love the like body word that
- 1:24:43gets. Involved with Chucky.
- 1:24:45It's so weird because he's a doll and you shouldn't think
- 1:24:48that this exists, but like, he's got innards.
- 1:24:51You know his arms. Bleeding.
- 1:24:53He's got to stop. The muscles and all of that
- 1:24:56nastiness. And when he.
- 1:24:57Stabs the dagger in there, it hurts him and he's got to tape
- 1:25:00it up and it's just gory and bloody and painful.
- 1:25:04And amazing. We explored a little bit.
- 1:25:06Here we go full blown within Bride.
- 1:25:08Of Chucky, yes, so OK. Employee.
- 1:25:12Notices that there's a jam yeah the the jam is like they've.
- 1:25:16Knocked over some Chucky. Dolls.
- 1:25:18And then there's like a lot of shit backing up, so he goes down
- 1:25:20to fix it and this is where I'm screaming at the screen.
- 1:25:23Lockout tag out. If you don't know what lockout
- 1:25:25tag out is, it's basically when you work in a factory and you
- 1:25:28have to do something to repair or clean machinery, you turn it
- 1:25:32off. But you also have a series of
- 1:25:35like padlocks and you only have the key to the padlock attached
- 1:25:41to a piece of machinery, so it cannot be turned back on while
- 1:25:45you are in there. Lockout tag out, no count.
- 1:25:48That's safe. So he doesn't do that.
- 1:25:50He. Just hopes that the machinery.
- 1:25:52Doesn't gouge his fucking eyes out.
- 1:25:54And you know what happens? The machinery gouges his fucking
- 1:25:57eyes out once he gets the jam unjammed.
- 1:26:00To his credit, he did not expect the.
- 1:26:03Killer doll to be there, it doesn't matter because I
- 1:26:06guarantee even though it's only. 1990 I guarantee that he was
- 1:26:09given lockout tag out training. That's fair.
- 1:26:12I like his death though, because like you.
- 1:26:14Get to see like they're opening up the eyes of the dolls and
- 1:26:18like putting the eyeballs in there.
- 1:26:19So that's what they do to him. Like the machine opens up his
- 1:26:22eyes and just shoves like a whole thing of classic eyeballs
- 1:26:25in there. This is so awful.
- 1:26:26I love it. It's a great kill.
- 1:26:27It is gross. Like but.
- 1:26:29Man, it's fucking effective. So Kyle and Andy end up trapping
- 1:26:33Chucky in a. Machine.
- 1:26:34That is like melting pieces together they reverse it.
- 1:26:39This doesn't make any sense. So the whole thing is like they
- 1:26:42flip this switch, they push the button, it reverses everything
- 1:26:47and it melts the shit rather than assembles the shit.
- 1:26:52So he goes all the way into that area and the chamber closes and
- 1:26:58he gets like melted with like a bunch of other good guy parts
- 1:27:01and a BLOB comes out and they assume he's done and they're.
- 1:27:04Really ready and they try to leave.
- 1:27:07Except that's when Kyle gets hit by the swinging body of the I
- 1:27:11List tech and a legless Chucky crawls.
- 1:27:15Towards. Andy, I assume he got himself
- 1:27:19free. Just in Time escaped, so he's
- 1:27:23trying to stab at. Andy gets his nice stuck in a
- 1:27:25piece of. Machinery.
- 1:27:26And he's right underneath, like this conveniently placed spout
- 1:27:30for hot plastic. Yeah, it's like a little tube.
- 1:27:32It's just like going everywhere, air blowing.
- 1:27:34No, no, this is, this is a different part.
- 1:27:36Oh, this? Is a spout of hot plastic.
- 1:27:38Andy turns that part melts him. Andy made a note of that.
- 1:27:42Earlier, because he almost. Got that dripped on him.
- 1:27:43Too. Yeah, this factory's just super
- 1:27:45unsafe, man. The killer.
- 1:27:47Doll is the least of its worries at this point.
- 1:27:49There's just so many lawsuits waiting to happen, you know why.
- 1:27:54Ask me why. Why?
- 1:27:56Shove it up your ass. OK, he's the guy that's bleeding
- 1:28:00this shit, so yeah, so he melts him with some plastic and.
- 1:28:03Then he goes and. Saves Kyle because she's knocked
- 1:28:05out and she's about to go get Cronenberg.
- 1:28:08Saves her. They get down there, they're
- 1:28:09ready to go and then a blaba chug is like and this is where
- 1:28:13they put the hydraulic. Air into his mouth.
- 1:28:15And blow him up. He was up full blown.
- 1:28:17And then they leave. Together and she said.
- 1:28:20We're going home and he said where's home?
- 1:28:21And she said, Andy, I have no idea you have, but it's
- 1:28:26wherever. I'm with you.
- 1:28:28They're. Home together forever?
- 1:28:30Yep, except not in the third. One cuz Kyle's not there cuz he
- 1:28:34goes to military school people. Yeah, well, she's nine years
- 1:28:38older than him, so. That's true.
- 1:28:40She's I don't. Know if she would have been
- 1:28:41allowed to foster him given her background?
- 1:28:44She's a legal adult, yeah, She should be able to do what she
- 1:28:47wants to do. They still have like things they
- 1:28:50sell requirements. For Fosters, that makes sense.
- 1:28:53Yeah. OK.
- 1:28:54So yeah, that's what. We are gonna be talking about
- 1:28:56next month. Yeah, that's the series.
- 1:28:58This is my rifle. This is my gun.
- 1:29:00God man, this is for shooting. This is for fun people.
- 1:29:04Hate. On that one.
- 1:29:05I love Child's Play Three, so I'm super excited for that.
- 1:29:08I'm keeping it at 10. I'm keeping mine at 10.
- 1:29:12Fucking awesome, love this movie.
- 1:29:13So much, yeah. Honestly, I would keep some of
- 1:29:15those extended scenes and maybe. Cut down on the false deaths at
- 1:29:18the end, but that's the only change I would really want.
- 1:29:20Yeah, same here. Yeah, like build up some like.
- 1:29:23Just a few things you don't have like to build up a whole lot
- 1:29:26with this movie, like you can keep it lean still, but you
- 1:29:29know, just loses its effect whenever you do that shit over
- 1:29:33and over again. Talia, much like we talked.
- 1:29:37About in the first one, she finds Chucky to be very
- 1:29:39terrifying, but she did have more fun watching this one.
- 1:29:42She was squeaking, she was squeaking her round.
- 1:29:45She was having a fan. She was licking you.
- 1:29:48She was kicking around in her. Sleep she.
- 1:29:50Actually. You know, as scary as I think
- 1:29:53she thinks Chucky is, she had fun with this movie.
- 1:29:56So I think Talia is going to give it a nine A9.
- 1:30:00She's never. Going to give.
- 1:30:00It a 10 because Chucky scares her too much.
- 1:30:02But she will. Respect this movie for what it
- 1:30:04is. Yeah, Chucky really does just
- 1:30:07it. You guys, I wish I could.
- 1:30:09Probably explain how terrified she is of my Chucky doll.
- 1:30:13It kind of makes us wonder if the doll is actually possessed,
- 1:30:17the way she reacts to him every every time we bring it out.
- 1:30:19She's. Like I don't.
- 1:30:20Like that guy who's Zoe's ultimate warrior.
- 1:30:25We agreed we can't do Chucky again.
- 1:30:26Yes, we agreed. Man, you know, I think that I
- 1:30:34think she'd respect Kyle. This one I think 'cause like.
- 1:30:39Kyle once she starts. Figuring shit out, she like
- 1:30:42she's a fucking go gatherer. She goes over there, She, she
- 1:30:44does a lot of fighting. She, she.
- 1:30:47Puts the pieces together really quickly.
- 1:30:49She, you know, has a lot of plots that she immediately grabs
- 1:30:52that dagger and she's ready to fight Chucky.
- 1:30:54But Chucky just gets the jump on her.
- 1:30:55She tries and shove. She gets Chucky actually to fly
- 1:30:59through the windshield. She knocks over a series of
- 1:31:01boxes on top. Of a table.
- 1:31:03That's her favorite thing to do. She's really good at that.
- 1:31:07Yeah, you know what? Yeah, I agree with you, Kyle.
- 1:31:10Kyle is Zoe's ultimate warrior. Yeah.
- 1:31:14All right. Who did you relate to?
- 1:31:19Oh, I guess I probably relate to.
- 1:31:23Andy with the whole like therapist stupid game, tell me
- 1:31:27how you feel. That's that's fair.
- 1:31:31It's dark, but. It's true.
- 1:31:35Who did I relate? To.
- 1:31:37Man, I I'm gonna say I probably. I'll relate to that fucking kid
- 1:31:48that was flicking Andy. 'S ear.
- 1:31:52I was kind of an asshole. When I was a kid.
- 1:31:55And once I saw that, pathetic. Display.
- 1:31:58Of bouncing the ball against the fence.
- 1:32:01I found my target. That's who I'm going to put.
- 1:32:08He's new. He's bouncing a ball against
- 1:32:10Chan Link. It's over and I was well in the
- 1:32:14pecking. Order so that right there.
- 1:32:16All right, I finally found one lower than me.
- 1:32:18Y'all? That's the kid I'm pecking on.
- 1:32:21OK, all right, let's. See.
- 1:32:24What do we have next week? Tackling Yeah, cuz we don't do
- 1:32:28dream sequel since it's our franchise.
- 1:32:29You don't do dream sequel, it's our franchise coverage.
- 1:32:31So tackling. All right, let's see.
- 1:32:35That's our first one is battery included batteries.
- 1:32:39Included battery included, Yeah. What if we keep briefing on that
- 1:32:46we do disassembly required? Because that's how they end up
- 1:32:49killing him in this one. They split him apart.
- 1:32:52Disassembly. I feel like that's more fitting
- 1:32:54for a three. Because he goes into the fan but
- 1:32:57they split him apart in this one.
- 1:32:59He rips. Off his hand and his legs and
- 1:33:01then they blow him apart and they at it starts off with them
- 1:33:05taking him apart and putting him back together.
- 1:33:10He gets reassembled. In the opening, just some
- 1:33:12disassembly. Required.
- 1:33:16OK, some. This is simply required.
- 1:33:18OK, I. Can live with how that works OK
- 1:33:21yeah OK Next up we have Internet review OK what you got I got us
- 1:33:29an. IMDb OK, and I know.
- 1:33:31You know we both love this. I'm sure you pulled a less than
- 1:33:34positive review, so I'd like to hear what somebody who doesn't
- 1:33:37like this maybe thinks about it and why maybe they don't like
- 1:33:39it. It's a 2 out of 10 rated.
- 1:33:43Back in September of 2009, titled Yucky Chucky.
- 1:33:48I like the rhyme so I'm willing to hear them out.
- 1:33:52All right, so they say, well, what do?
- 1:33:54You know Chucky's back and he's still after Danny.
- 1:34:00He does. He is.
- 1:34:01Just like Danny in The Shining, I said that at the.
- 1:34:03Beginning and I'm OK with it. They did like a whole Danny
- 1:34:06thing. They do a shining.
- 1:34:07Trivia in the end, too. Yeah.
- 1:34:09With a whole maze thing. Yeah, yeah, so.
- 1:34:13And he's still after Danny. Who is?
- 1:34:14Now under the care of foster parents, I don't think that that
- 1:34:18wasn't intentional. I think that they I'll allow it.
- 1:34:21It's fine at the. Beginning the film is OK, but
- 1:34:25before? Long it becomes unlikable and
- 1:34:27comes to the climax. It is practically unwatchable.
- 1:34:31The original Child's Play was constructed like Jaws.
- 1:34:34The monster or monster doll in this case was kept in the
- 1:34:37shadows until the last half hour, which was good filmmaking
- 1:34:41on the part of both directors and Jaws too.
- 1:34:43Having seen what the shark is and what is capable of, the film
- 1:34:47makers figure there is no need to hide it anymore.
- 1:34:50And the makers of Child's Play too are doing the same thing
- 1:34:53with Chucky. Big mistake.
- 1:34:55The tension is reduced to a handful of boom moments.
- 1:34:57Chucky is no longer scary, he is loud and obnoxious, and the
- 1:35:01climax offers impressively amusing and money efficient set
- 1:35:04design. And then otherwise wreck of a
- 1:35:07concluding chapter. This is arguably one of the
- 1:35:10worst horror sequel as I have seen in the last few years.
- 1:35:13Save your money. This doll should be left in the
- 1:35:15box. I want to know what this guy's
- 1:35:17opinion was on Jaws too. Other.
- 1:35:19Than just comparing it to this because we we watched Jaws 2
- 1:35:25together last weekend and your your review was well that was a
- 1:35:31sequel to Jaws. No.
- 1:35:33I my review. Was.
- 1:35:35They did a good job having it be a sequel to Jaws.
- 1:35:40Yep, they did a fantastic job with.
- 1:35:43That. But it wasn't fun.
- 1:35:47It was no fun to. It was just.
- 1:35:49And here's Jaws again. I think maybe this is a person
- 1:35:53that. Likes to have tension and we've.
- 1:35:57Talked about. This plenty of times because we
- 1:35:59are very much people that like we're a comedy and we're OK with
- 1:36:03our killers being funny or having funny moments in a horror
- 1:36:06movie and that's why this a movie appeals to us so much.
- 1:36:10This is why Return of the Living Dead appeals to us so much.
- 1:36:12This is why a lot of movies that we talked about on the show
- 1:36:14appeal to us so much. I wonder if this is a person
- 1:36:17that wants their horror movies to be scary and that's it.
- 1:36:21Which is fine if that's what you want.
- 1:36:24Oh, I just, I don't understand. I don't.
- 1:36:27Know what else you'd do with this?
- 1:36:29If Yeah, because you know that, that you can't play that for
- 1:36:32attention a second time. You can't keep that.
- 1:36:35You can't keep a straight face with that.
- 1:36:37Forever. No, it just doesn't work.
- 1:36:40There maybe could be a way. Where you could do a like, you
- 1:36:46see that? That's Tommy, and then
- 1:36:48throughout the movie you think that that's Tommy and maybe like
- 1:36:52Andy is. Imagining it all, it's a like,
- 1:36:55is it real or is it not? Yeah.
- 1:36:57There's something, but I also. Feel like you can't really do
- 1:37:00that twice because it's kind of what they did in the first one.
- 1:37:03Yeah, well, I feel like it could have been what they had.
- 1:37:06Originally planned for the first one where it was like a whodunit
- 1:37:09type deal where like oh shoot maybe it is Andy this time.
- 1:37:12Maybe the trauma got to him, but I like the direction they went
- 1:37:16because, yeah, I like having them embrace the character of
- 1:37:20Chucky as we know him today. They had fun with it, and that's
- 1:37:25what I like. And it these movies were never
- 1:37:28scary to me. No, they scare a lot of people,
- 1:37:31but I've always seen them as just fun horror movies that you
- 1:37:36just have a good time watching. That's really it.
- 1:37:39But some people are terrified of creepy.
- 1:37:41Dolls so. You know, that's your thing.
- 1:37:45Yeah, we've got a. Friend afraid of sharks in
- 1:37:48swimming pools. She's afraid of clowns too.
- 1:37:51Also afraid of clowns? But I feel like that's a much
- 1:37:53more specific. One that needs to be talked
- 1:37:55about and I feel like we need to talk about it more cuz that's
- 1:37:58just, it's so specific. But like everybody's got like a
- 1:38:01weird thing and it's like I'm afraid it's like me talking
- 1:38:03about like one of my biggest fears is like a toenail Clipper
- 1:38:08clip and a tooth in half. Like that image is in my head.
- 1:38:11We've talked about this, we've mentioned that is upsetting
- 1:38:13imagery. Yes.
- 1:38:14And you said that last time? It's it's one of those.
- 1:38:17Things that like, it's never happened, but it's there.
- 1:38:19It's in my thoughts. I can't not do it.
- 1:38:22That's good. So yeah, OK.
- 1:38:26Do we have listener reviews? We have.
- 1:38:29One review. Just one.
- 1:38:30Just one like on Twitter. It was the last driving night.
- 1:38:34I think it got buried a little bit there.
- 1:38:37We did have Word Zombie who chimed in, and I should.
- 1:38:41I've meant to say this before, but happy birthday to Word
- 1:38:44Zombie. Happy birthday bud.
- 1:38:46He had a birthday. Earlier in.
- 1:38:49The week that this came out, his birthday is on the 23rd.
- 1:38:52So yeah, happy birthday, buddy. But he.
- 1:38:56Chimed in on. Twitter saying, all right, I
- 1:38:58love to review, but it's been so long since I've watched it, I
- 1:39:01can't. And I respect that.
- 1:39:02I appreciate you, you know, Yeah, you know, showing.
- 1:39:06Give yourself a little birthday treat and maybe watch this one
- 1:39:08again. It's on Tubi.
- 1:39:09It's on. Tubi, it's folk Free.
- 1:39:10Yeah, folk. Free do it.
- 1:39:13But the. One that we do have is from
- 1:39:15another Bubby patron, our buddy Michael Howard.
- 1:39:20OK, who says? Not a lot of the.
- 1:39:24Sequels can move up to. Their original, but this is.
- 1:39:26A great contender. The cast is great in this one.
- 1:39:29We also still get a bit more of the horror element of the
- 1:39:31original. I'm a huge fan. 9 out of 10.
- 1:39:34Absolutely. I agree man.
- 1:39:36Like the IT keeps the horror like it keeps Chucky as a
- 1:39:41slasher villain and like he's not nerfed at all.
- 1:39:45Yeah, well, it's also not fully played up for like, comedic
- 1:39:51effect or like he he I feel like he loses, like he's still the
- 1:39:56same, but like, eventually he kind of loses his edge a little
- 1:40:00bit. He's not.
- 1:40:00He's played more comedically. He's got more like charisma.
- 1:40:03He's like, he's cracking jokes and shit like that.
- 1:40:06This one right here, he's still kind of like a mean guy.
- 1:40:09Yeah, he does start to become what we like in this one right
- 1:40:14here, but he still has the traces of the original.
- 1:40:18That's very true. I like that.
- 1:40:19Yeah, it's a it's such a solid sequel.
- 1:40:22I love it. It is.
- 1:40:23Like I fucking. Love this as a follow up, it's
- 1:40:25so. Fucking good.
- 1:40:27All right, so that's it. Child's play, too.
- 1:40:30Yeah. Next.
- 1:40:33Week is. Actually.
- 1:40:34The start of a new month and it's gonna be Travie's birthday,
- 1:40:39pal. Yeah, fuck y'all are.
- 1:40:41In it for a treat, because I've already said that I think once
- 1:40:46before. But if you missed it, my movie
- 1:40:48is going to be pieces. We're getting nasty, y'all,
- 1:40:53We're getting nasty. It's the chainsaw movie if you
- 1:40:56watched. Your video.
- 1:40:57Nasty episode. It's the movie with the
- 1:40:59chainsaw. Yeah.
- 1:41:02Oh man, it's a fucking weird. Movie it.
- 1:41:04Is so bizarre it's. Wild.
- 1:41:08We're putting together a puzzle of boobies.
- 1:41:10It's if you, if you. Have not watched it.
- 1:41:14I encourage you to watch it cuz it's a fucking treat.
- 1:41:17I was so so much wild and I feel like I should hate it but.
- 1:41:22I love. It Yeah, Let me see.
- 1:41:26I'm not gonna actually, I'm not gonna read where it is right now
- 1:41:28because it's gonna be a new month when it comes out.
- 1:41:31I actually know what no, it's still gonna be July when people
- 1:41:34can watch it cuz it'll be August first or second maybe.
- 1:41:38I don't wanna spoil it for now like.
- 1:41:41Right now, but it's probably got my favorite tagline for a movie
- 1:41:45ever on the poster. Do you know if it's still on
- 1:41:49Shutter right now? Yeah, I believe it is.
- 1:41:50So I'll double check it real quick.
- 1:41:52OK, but it. Definitely is on to be Peacock.
- 1:41:54Sling TV, Plex, Fubo TV, YouTube, Prime Time YouTube.
- 1:41:59TV Premium or Philo Premium? Holy hell, it's everywhere.
- 1:42:02It's a lot of places. It's very.
- 1:42:04Watchable. Yeah.
- 1:42:05And it is on shutter, so if you want to watch the.
- 1:42:08Job version. Go do so yeah, it's the end.
- 1:42:11It's the very last movie in his. His all night version, yeah,
- 1:42:16that brought him back, back to network.
- 1:42:18Doing. This thing, yeah, it's.
- 1:42:21It's a great. Movie is it it's I'm excited.
- 1:42:24To talk about it, it's. A movie that I felt.
- 1:42:26Like you need it, it's. That set that third layer in the
- 1:42:30iceberg of like, cult movies, like We Got Basket.
- 1:42:34Case in this in the second layer and we got.
- 1:42:37Pieces in the third No shit though, like it's you'll watch
- 1:42:40it you. Might think going into it this
- 1:42:43is gonna be fucking stupid. Watch it, man.
- 1:42:45Give it a fucking chance. It will blow.
- 1:42:47Oh, you're mine. I guarantee it.
- 1:42:49It's yeah, it's it's wild. Yeah.
- 1:42:51Bluto. From Popeyes in there, Yeah, he
- 1:42:55really is, man. He.
- 1:42:57Like. Straight up big.
- 1:42:58Old boy chainsaw. Yeah, just just give it a.
- 1:43:03Chance, please. Yeah, for my birthday for
- 1:43:06Travis. 'S birthday, all right.
