- 1:23Speaker 1: Rusty Burston is here. I'm here, Rusty's here, I'm here.
- 1:28Speaker 1: We have an empty seat here.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe he's out there warming up to pitch for
- 1:33Speaker 3: the AUS.
- 1:34Speaker 5: I mean the game didn't start till eight o'clock. What's
- 1:36Speaker 5: going on?
- 1:37Speaker 3: Well, I think I think they're holding the tryouts right now.
- 1:39Speaker 5: Yeah, pitching.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I asked a couple of people around here today if
- 1:43Speaker 1: they had any eligibility left.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Oh that that game was ugly last night, and you
- 1:48Speaker 3: know I stayed up for it. I didn't stay up
- 1:50Speaker 3: for the whole thing. Yeah. Now, my wife and I
- 1:53Speaker 3: moved from the living room to the bedroom and we
- 1:57Speaker 3: had it on. Yeah, when it was nine to one,
- 1:59Speaker 3: and then when they scored again, I'm like, it's.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Not gonna be Yeah, this isn't good.
- 2:03Speaker 3: It's not gonna happen. Yeah, once it was eleven to one,
- 2:05Speaker 3: I turned it off. Okay, I guess eleven to two, Yeah,
- 2:10Speaker 3: I guess. The over writing question of the day. Do
- 2:13Speaker 3: you start fresh corn? Yes? I do, me too. Yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 3: I mean I would send him out there as long
- 2:19Speaker 3: as you can make it. Yeah, I mean, your whole
- 2:21Speaker 3: season's online. Why not.
- 2:23Speaker 1: You can't start behind four to nothing again it, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 1: five batters in?
- 2:27Speaker 3: No, you know we've seen enough of that this year. Well,
- 2:29Speaker 3: dardening lines were I mean, they just weren't good last night. No,
- 2:33Speaker 3: and for that matter, Pal wasn't very good last night.
- 2:37Speaker 3: He'd been really good, he pushing any really good against
- 2:39Speaker 3: missip State, and so I don't know, nobody could throw
- 2:43Speaker 3: last night. So I would go fresh corn as long
- 2:46Speaker 3: as possible, maybe gets today, oh for an or two
- 2:50Speaker 3: in relief, and then just juggle whatever you can possibly
- 2:54Speaker 3: do because they're down to you know, yeah, Josh Stewart
- 3:01Speaker 3: nine innings, last nine innings of the season, if you know,
- 3:05Speaker 3: if you don't win.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So I know he said all heads on deck, But
- 3:08Speaker 1: obviously and maybe you can bring almost anybody in to
- 3:12Speaker 1: get it out or two.
- 3:13Speaker 5: And that's that's the way. Doesn't it have to be
- 3:16Speaker 5: batter by batter tonight?
- 3:17Speaker 6: Well?
- 3:18Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, after fresh corn, I think, hey, Horn,
- 3:20Speaker 3: you want him to go as long as he can
- 3:22Speaker 3: see you're gonna start fresh corn tonight.
- 3:25Speaker 7: You know, that's an interesting question. I'd say probably not
- 3:29Speaker 7: because I feel he's the one given you have. And
- 3:33Speaker 7: I think sometimes you know, like last night Johnson, he
- 3:36Speaker 7: pitched twenty one pitches. The other night, he did nothing
- 3:39Speaker 7: to show what he would do last night last night,
- 3:41Speaker 7: one hundred and twenty five pitches. Come on, we threw
- 3:43Speaker 7: twenty one the other day and he just threw strikes.
- 3:46Speaker 7: He wasn't great, but he only walked one. I know
- 3:49Speaker 7: he hit one. But you gotta hit batters because they're
- 3:51Speaker 7: on top of the plate. So I never look at
- 3:52Speaker 7: hit batters. I look at walks. So he made them
- 3:54Speaker 7: put the ball in play. And who's going to be that?
- 3:58Speaker 1: You know, I've already said they need somebody step up tonight,
- 4:01Speaker 1: right But you know, besides well both teams yeah yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 1: And you make a good point too, Cees. I mean,
- 4:07Speaker 1: both teams are out of pitching right now, or you
- 4:10Speaker 1: think they're out of pitching, but somebody or two bodies
- 4:14Speaker 1: have to step up and show and perform the way.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Maybe you go, wow, we see that all You might.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Get a hero out of somebody who hadn't pitched a
- 4:25Speaker 3: long time. My point, and we've all seen it happen
- 4:27Speaker 3: in major leagues. You know, guy who.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I've seen it happen in College World Series. I've seen
- 4:32Speaker 1: it happened at Super Region.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I'm thinking Josh Stewart and Hunter Bond are on the
- 4:37Speaker 3: I mean they're they're available. Yes, what the heck? And
- 4:40Speaker 3: if USC hasn't prepped for him, then and again, I'm
- 4:44Speaker 3: not asking to throw two times three lineup.
- 4:47Speaker 5: I'm throwing give me three outs, three outs.
- 4:49Speaker 7: You're just looking anybody can give you two innings, possibly
- 4:53Speaker 7: one run, because both these teams have proven if you've
- 4:56Speaker 7: got a bad picture, they're going to hit at.
- 4:57Speaker 5: The very least.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm not going to put him through the through the
- 5:00Speaker 3: lineup twice, no way.
- 5:02Speaker 7: Unless it's fresh corn. Like you said, I got that
- 5:04Speaker 7: kind of person. And they kept going with that guy
- 5:06Speaker 7: last night because am couldn't get Johnson out of the game.
- 5:09Speaker 5: That's correct.
- 5:09Speaker 7: I mean, you know it's amazing and you go like,
- 5:11Speaker 7: this guy's record doesn't prove anything like that. He said,
- 5:14Speaker 7: I'm in the heat, but you just never know who's going.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And you know, I got to tip my cap to
- 5:21Speaker 1: you speak you mentioned out of the heat seas. I've
- 5:24Speaker 1: just got to tip my cap to that team yesterday
- 5:28Speaker 1: that was on the field in the middle of the
- 5:30Speaker 1: day with that heat and humidity.
- 5:32Speaker 5: They're from La, Man, it ain't like that.
- 5:34Speaker 6: In La.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It may get a little hot that it ain't like that.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And I've got bad props for that team to be
- 5:41Speaker 1: able to do something like that.
- 5:43Speaker 7: It didn't have to turn around in half an hour
- 5:44Speaker 7: and play another game against the team that's been refreshing.
- 5:47Speaker 5: My point and playing at home.
- 5:49Speaker 3: But you know, yeah, but you know, A and M
- 5:51Speaker 3: kind of they made it easy on Johnson because I mean, obviously,
- 5:57Speaker 3: it's so much easier to pitch with a big lead,
- 5:59Speaker 3: right true, And he didn't have to do anything really
- 6:03Speaker 3: specially that you know, and him takes one o lead,
- 6:06Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, let's go sometimes throwing strikes.
- 6:09Speaker 7: It's just just the biggest thing.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:12Speaker 7: And you're right because their third basement of a couple
- 6:14Speaker 7: of great plays. He made a great file catch, yes
- 6:17Speaker 7: right right, hopeing hit that hit his homework. So if
- 6:20Speaker 7: he walks on the next pitch, suddenly that's a two
- 6:23Speaker 7: run homerge. You don't know, we don't know what play
- 6:26Speaker 7: is going to make this a seventeen sixteen game tonight
- 6:29Speaker 7: or a seven to six games.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Well, you never know. Because I've seen this game so
- 6:33Speaker 3: many times in the past, like you know, I remember
- 6:36Speaker 3: and him playing Long Beach State way back in Like
- 6:39Speaker 3: I want to say this was ninety eight when they
- 6:41Speaker 3: went to or actually nine nine when they went to
- 6:43Speaker 3: the World Series and they had to get Dalen Holt
- 6:46Speaker 3: had to make a remarkable catch with the bases loaded
- 6:49Speaker 3: in the first inning and it and it ain't aby
- 6:52Speaker 3: and blows him out. You never know, but you never
- 6:53Speaker 3: know what's gonna happen if they give up that. You know,
- 6:55Speaker 3: the three runs are going to score right there, if
- 6:58Speaker 3: Daylan doesn't make this great catch. But I think today
- 7:01Speaker 3: oh is got to be an option to throw an
- 7:04Speaker 3: inning too, because he threw Friday, you know, so he's
- 7:06Speaker 3: got Yeah, it's not like he came. It's not like
- 7:09Speaker 3: he threw Friday and now it's Sunday. It's got the
- 7:12Speaker 3: extra day.
- 7:13Speaker 7: Okay, But I'm gonna have him starting a fresh inning
- 7:16Speaker 7: because he comes in with one white guy. It could
- 7:18Speaker 7: be a two or three. Absolutely, is anybody gonna miss
- 7:21Speaker 7: a ninety eight down the middle. It's gonna be him. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 7: And they got the guys that can say see you
- 7:25Speaker 7: like all people do.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, I mean when he's ahead. Oh and to
- 7:30Speaker 3: just throw a couple in.
- 7:31Speaker 7: The dirt please, And unfortunately Rusty do two pitch he
- 7:35Speaker 7: might have been aiming for the dirt. Who went right
- 7:37Speaker 7: down the middle.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Well he's done it too often. Two outs, two strikes.
- 7:42Speaker 3: It's just like so many times.
- 7:44Speaker 7: And you go, how far is that ball gonna go?
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, Well, I don't know. I've seen some dumb
- 7:50Speaker 3: pitching watching the Rangers and the Aggies and.
- 7:52Speaker 7: Well, you know, it looks easy, but you know what,
- 7:56Speaker 7: it's not. Yea, Then we're watching all these other people
- 7:59Speaker 7: loose games.
- 7:59Speaker 5: Is oh my gosh, what a weekend.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I mean, UCLA is living on the EDGs, aren't they?
- 8:05Speaker 3: They just were.
- 8:07Speaker 1: So I made the comparison of nineteen eighty nine here,
- 8:15Speaker 1: I tweeted out yesterday. Take it from someone who saw
- 8:20Speaker 1: this thirty six years ago, thirty seven years ago, that
- 8:25Speaker 1: this pain is not going away anytime soon. They were
- 8:30Speaker 1: the best team in baseball from day one. You did,
- 8:33Speaker 1: You saw them right, and you go wow this and
- 8:36Speaker 1: everybody saw it right right.
- 8:38Speaker 5: They were.
- 8:39Speaker 1: No, there's never been a team that was number one
- 8:43Speaker 1: to start the season and came all the way.
- 8:46Speaker 5: To be number one that got beat.
- 8:48Speaker 3: The only thing I would say is different than that
- 8:51Speaker 3: is that a M lost to a team have LSU,
- 8:54Speaker 3: which is a they had.
- 8:55Speaker 5: They had two big league pitchers.
- 8:57Speaker 3: We don't.
- 8:58Speaker 7: You don't marry.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Saint Mary's beat you twice as the number one team.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And then and then and then and then Saint Mary's
- 9:04Speaker 1: gets knocked out last night.
- 9:06Speaker 5: You know they get not they beat them twice.
- 9:09Speaker 3: It wasn't that. But you see who lived on the
- 9:11Speaker 3: edge there.
- 9:12Speaker 5: They did the rety come back the last two weeks
- 9:15Speaker 5: they have.
- 9:15Speaker 7: He thought that UCLA lost. They even get to the
- 9:18Speaker 7: championship game with their own road world, but they had.
- 9:20Speaker 3: You look at the results, it's like so many comebacks
- 9:24Speaker 3: and I don't know how much of it.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I've watched quite a bit of UCLA and especially yesterday,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and I know John Savage has been there twenty two
- 9:31Speaker 1: years and he's won a national championship. Okay, but my gosh, yesterday, guys,
- 9:38Speaker 1: he looked like one of those football coaches we talked
- 9:41Speaker 1: about in November when when the season's.
- 9:44Speaker 5: On the line, making some stupid choices. Yesterday, Okay, here here's.
- 9:48Speaker 7: My deal, is the watch them go around whatever. Okay,
- 9:51Speaker 7: I'm watching UCLA on the game they won in a
- 9:54Speaker 7: walk off. Yeah, and they go and I said to
- 9:57Speaker 7: just it's like they won the College World Series. He
- 10:00Speaker 7: stayed alive. I said, is this because of ESPN? When
- 10:03Speaker 7: you win, you've got to be did this emotion? You
- 10:05Speaker 7: got to jump up and down, you got to hug.
- 10:07Speaker 7: It doesn't matter if you beat the bad news bearers because.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I'm gonna be on TV, or if you know, home
- 10:13Speaker 3: run like a Georgia kid.
- 10:14Speaker 7: Right, well, yeah, sitting there, have we got You've done
- 10:18Speaker 7: nothing U c l A.
- 10:19Speaker 5: You're number one, you stay alive, You're supposed to.
- 10:21Speaker 7: Win, and you're acted like you just want it all?
- 10:24Speaker 5: Is that part of their inn?
- 10:25Speaker 1: I well, I don't know, or I don't know if
- 10:28Speaker 1: it's part of the makeup trade. And I we're just
- 10:30Speaker 1: having this conversation about teams, and Alex asked the first
- 10:34Speaker 1: question he asked yesterday of early last night, late last night,
- 10:37Speaker 1: was did you feel your tea Yeah, I'm on deadline here,
- 10:41Speaker 1: hurry up? Do you feel like your team was ready
- 10:45Speaker 1: to play? In so many words, I mean, you know,
- 10:48Speaker 1: good question. I mean, he's going, well, yeah, I mean,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but when they score four runs in the first five
- 10:55Speaker 1: or six batters. I don't care how ready to play
- 10:58Speaker 1: you are. And I always think maybe this time of
- 11:01Speaker 1: year it cease. To your point, it's it's a team
- 11:04Speaker 1: that it's a long season, right, Can you ride the
- 11:08Speaker 1: ups and downs?
- 11:08Speaker 5: Are you way down? Are you way up?
- 11:12Speaker 6: Uh?
- 11:12Speaker 1: And I think my point is I think this team's
- 11:15Speaker 1: been fairly even kelled this year.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Right.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I mean we know that hittings contagious. We talked about
- 11:22Speaker 1: this all the time. Hidgs is contagious, right right, giving
- 11:26Speaker 1: up giving up runs is contagious. Bobbling the ball is contagious, right,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I mean that.
- 11:32Speaker 5: It's a nature of the game.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Sure, but you've got to you've got to be pretty
- 11:37Speaker 1: even killed because you're going to fail two out every
- 11:39Speaker 1: three times if you're really good, right, the average players
- 11:43Speaker 1: failing three out every four times.
- 11:45Speaker 3: So you've got to have one spot where you see
- 11:47Speaker 3: these dramatic turnament rounds in one day. Yeah, it's like
- 11:51Speaker 3: one game, Yeah, and it can be fourteen to three
- 11:53Speaker 3: last night, and then it could be easily A and
- 11:55Speaker 3: M runs away with it tonight.
- 11:56Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I mean we no, we have.
- 11:59Speaker 7: No idea what they expect, because you're you're saying like
- 12:01Speaker 7: it could be a close game, it could be a blowout.
- 12:04Speaker 7: And getting back to the boy to that question, the
- 12:07Speaker 7: deal is you're gonna have to know when to turn
- 12:10Speaker 7: it on and off. You know, we've baseball is the
- 12:12Speaker 7: only sport that we've all liked a lot. And sometimes,
- 12:15Speaker 7: you know, you go through the motions and you know,
- 12:16Speaker 7: you're thinking that team was just out there. It's hard
- 12:19Speaker 7: not to say they were out there ninety five degrees
- 12:21Speaker 7: for four hours. Yeah, they beat up the team that
- 12:23Speaker 7: we just beat up as well. It's hard not to
- 12:25Speaker 7: think that. But then you look up, like you said something,
- 12:28Speaker 7: it's four to one, and go, hey, maybe we need
- 12:29Speaker 7: to play. Yeah it's too late.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Yeah, well I mean, yeah it's something. It's four to
- 12:35Speaker 3: one and by the end of four it's eight of one, right,
- 12:38Speaker 3: so yeah, at that point you're like, oh, Jesus probably oh.
- 12:42Speaker 7: And getting back to what you said, Rusty, this team is,
- 12:45Speaker 7: this team has faced a lot and history is shown
- 12:48Speaker 7: they've responded. It wouldn't be here if they didn't respond,
- 12:53Speaker 7: and I'd be shocked if they didn't give a thousand
- 12:57Speaker 7: percent effort tonight. But I don't know if it will
- 13:01Speaker 7: be enough because of the pitching.
- 13:02Speaker 3: It's going to be a late night it is. Yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 3: it's really late now, Okay.
- 13:06Speaker 7: I hope they have a numpire that has a little
- 13:09Speaker 7: wide strikes them because.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, you guys, Oh my gosh, it could be.
- 13:15Speaker 3: No, you're right, and it's hot and the ball is
- 13:17Speaker 3: going to carry the nice yes, and I'm just telling
- 13:20Speaker 3: you it's gonna be I can see, you know, twelve
- 13:23Speaker 3: to eleven, sure, absolutely, I.
- 13:25Speaker 7: Bet double ditches.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Yeah. If I had to take one of the absolutely.
- 13:29Speaker 7: That follow ball that one guy hit for home run less,
- 13:31Speaker 7: it would have been a home run. I don't know
- 13:32Speaker 7: where that thing went. That thing was nothing. Should have
- 13:36Speaker 7: someone picked it up with easterwood air.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Yeah, blessed one of the ones that stayed fair. I
- 13:42Speaker 1: think one of the ones hit it up on well Burn.
- 13:44Speaker 1: One of those that stayed fair and does the.
- 13:47Speaker 7: Same thing with obviously would.
- 13:52Speaker 5: Was it Grohovac that end up.
- 13:54Speaker 3: In the balls? Oh my gosh, yes.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Like four hundred and forty six feet or something.
- 13:59Speaker 7: He's gonna be a drone sometime, you know, it's like
- 14:02Speaker 7: instead of a bird. Yeah.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Now, it's gonna be a interesting game, but it's gonna
- 14:06Speaker 3: be a late night lunch.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I said, pack up rack of breakfast is right.
- 14:12Speaker 7: Yeah, i'd say practicing bourbon.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Yeah that too.
- 14:16Speaker 1: You're gonna it's gonna be It's gonna be a long night,
- 14:18Speaker 1: there's no doubt a bank.
- 14:20Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah, it'll be a long night.
- 14:22Speaker 1: But uh, look, they'll play as long as they have
- 14:24Speaker 1: to play if they get to the super Regional.
- 14:26Speaker 7: I thought, you.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Guys, is that the case tonight that they don't. I mean,
- 14:30Speaker 3: I know they can't start an ending in the regular
- 14:32Speaker 3: season after like midnight or one o'clock.
- 14:35Speaker 5: I don't know what the I don't know what that is.
- 14:37Speaker 7: That's a good question.
- 14:38Speaker 5: But the last game I think they go.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I think it doesn't apply.
- 14:42Speaker 5: I don't think it applies.
- 14:43Speaker 7: At the bottom of the second. And thing I thought of
- 14:45Speaker 7: both of you guys would have had about the fifth
- 14:47Speaker 7: try to get a guy first base. Oh, I know,
- 14:50Speaker 7: it's the bottom of the second. You know, what are
- 14:54Speaker 7: you doing?
- 14:55Speaker 3: Get in my soapbox. That's the one thing major League
- 14:57Speaker 3: Baseball has done that. I absolutely love. Two throwovers per back. Yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 3: cannot do anything else, And so it speeds up the
- 15:06Speaker 3: game so much.
- 15:06Speaker 7: It was root last night for the first two innings.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I'm sitting oh, yeah, it took forever, it did.
- 15:12Speaker 8: Uh.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And all of these games, Look, there's so much on
- 15:15Speaker 1: the line. There's so many pitching changes.
- 15:16Speaker 5: That's the other thing. Three you know, you got to
- 15:18Speaker 5: face three batters. I love that rule too. Uh.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Schlats may have to quit if they put that rule
- 15:25Speaker 1: in right, several coaches may have to quit.
- 15:28Speaker 5: Uh if they put that you got to face three batters.
- 15:30Speaker 5: But I do like the rule. It does speed up
- 15:33Speaker 5: the game so much.
- 15:34Speaker 1: These games are unbelievably long. There's a lot on the line,
- 15:39Speaker 1: there's a lot of decisions, there's a lot of challenges.
- 15:43Speaker 1: There's just you know, it's it's pitch Like we talked about,
- 15:47Speaker 1: it's pitch by pitch, it's out.
- 15:49Speaker 5: By out, and tonight same thing. Both of these teams
- 15:52Speaker 5: are going to be grinding.
- 15:54Speaker 1: So yeah, if this game's less than three and a
- 15:57Speaker 1: half hours, I won't be surprised.
- 15:59Speaker 3: I'll say this because y'all know what a passionate fan
- 16:03Speaker 3: I am of all and in sports and so, but
- 16:06Speaker 3: I prefer Major League watching Major League baseball to college
- 16:08Speaker 3: baseball because too where give me college football? Give me
- 16:12Speaker 3: college basketball over the pro stuff. Seven day.
- 16:14Speaker 5: I'm the same white rust baseball.
- 16:16Speaker 3: College baseball is too long now, even a baseball junkie
- 16:19Speaker 3: like us.
- 16:20Speaker 5: It's too long. Yeah, yeah, it goes too long.
- 16:23Speaker 7: Then you throw in the replace and they gotta go
- 16:25Speaker 7: back to Pittsburgh and get the people on to perment
- 16:27Speaker 7: their brothers to come over. Put your sandwich down.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Hey, if they give me a promone me sandwich. I
- 16:32Speaker 1: would be one of those guys. I would fly to
- 16:34Speaker 1: Pittsburgh and look. And by the way, I'd be a
- 16:36Speaker 1: lot quicker than those guys are.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Oh yeah, it's ridiculous, A lot quicker.
- 16:40Speaker 6: Go.
- 16:41Speaker 7: I don't know anybody in that when I watch. I
- 16:42Speaker 7: hope I don't know anybody there. They're so slow. I mean,
- 16:45Speaker 7: come on, make a decision.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I used to be this traditionalist, like like, how don't
- 16:49Speaker 3: change baseball a little TiO? But the major league game
- 16:52Speaker 3: is so much more enjoyable it is with those slight
- 16:54Speaker 3: little rules change. Still not a big fan of the
- 16:57Speaker 3: sprinter at second base and extra innings, but I get
- 16:59Speaker 3: it now. I mean I'd rather have that now, Yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 3: because you don't have a game that goes on sixteen
- 17:04Speaker 3: seventeen Indians anymore generally speaking, Yeah, I guess you could
- 17:07Speaker 3: have an exception, but most of those games are decided
- 17:09Speaker 3: in the tenth or eleven.
- 17:10Speaker 7: They are, yes, probably somebody go twelve or thirteen because
- 17:13Speaker 7: no one bunts anymore.
- 17:14Speaker 5: Well that's the other thing.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Well, I think teams are bunning a lot more now.
- 17:17Speaker 1: In the Major League Baseball games because the Rangers bunet
- 17:20Speaker 1: this weekend almost almost yeah, almost fainted.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Uh. They actually play a little small ball. Yeah, generous runs.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So when you look at this bracket, guys, and what's happened.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And by the way, we're going to the bottom of
- 17:35Speaker 1: the night. Georgia Tech is hanging by a fingernail against
- 17:39Speaker 1: Oklahoma seven to six.
- 17:41Speaker 5: The winner is going you know, two, three or four up. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:45Speaker 5: Oklahoma has been coming back.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Georgia Tech is the highest ranked team remaining right since
- 17:52Speaker 1: UCLA got knocked out. You look at the number cal
- 17:55Speaker 1: Poly going cal Poly. How about that? Who had that
- 18:00Speaker 1: in the office pool?
- 18:01Speaker 3: Exactly?
- 18:02Speaker 1: You know, Kentucky and West Virginia are going to be
- 18:04Speaker 1: playing here in a minute.
- 18:05Speaker 7: So West Virginia, Okay, is Oklahoma seated higher than uh,
- 18:11Speaker 7: let's see West Virginia region matched.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Up, no, no, no, no, Georgia Tech Oklahoma region is
- 18:17Speaker 1: matched up with Kansas.
- 18:18Speaker 5: The winner of this game plays Kansas.
- 18:20Speaker 7: So West Virginia can get the host super Regions because.
- 18:22Speaker 1: West Virginia was the number one seed and they will
- 18:26Speaker 1: host the super regional if they win. But I think
- 18:29Speaker 1: Kentucky Willy too as the number three seed in the
- 18:33Speaker 1: higher ranked team.
- 18:33Speaker 5: I think that's how it works, isn't it.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Saint John's knocked out Florida.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Saint John's did knock out Florida State Florida and Troy.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I mean that's a game that Troy's up to nothing earlier.
- 18:45Speaker 1: See there you go, they play guess who they play?
- 18:50Speaker 5: Little Rock.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Little Rock came out of that region with Southern Miss
- 18:55Speaker 1: and Jacksonville State was scoring runs like USC has been
- 18:59Speaker 1: scoring run.
- 19:00Speaker 5: They get knocked out.
- 19:02Speaker 1: It's been I think the quality guys all the way
- 19:07Speaker 1: around is a lot like.
- 19:08Speaker 5: Football that we're seeing now.
- 19:11Speaker 3: And I didn't think Reeb of Mactire was allowing around anymore.
- 19:15Speaker 3: We talking about the same Little Rock, Little Rock. Yes, okay,
- 19:19Speaker 3: thank you. Only a few people will get that, but
- 19:22Speaker 3: I got it. I figured you.
- 19:24Speaker 5: I got it.
- 19:26Speaker 1: The quality and how the talent has been dispersed and rusty.
- 19:31Speaker 1: We've talked about this for several years. When they took
- 19:34Speaker 1: down the number of rounds in the Major League draft, right,
- 19:38Speaker 1: that was some of it. When they expanded the number
- 19:41Speaker 1: of scholarships now in baseball in IL, with players staying
- 19:47Speaker 1: and not wanting to go on those twelve hour bus
- 19:50Speaker 1: rides and get their per diem of fifty dollars a day,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I think that's made a difference. But man, there are
- 19:57Speaker 1: so many good teams I've watched this weekend.
- 20:01Speaker 7: There's a good example. You keep talking about Troy's playing
- 20:03Speaker 7: Florida and if Troy's none of us is going to
- 20:05Speaker 7: be surprised. Yeah, but you watch them. They have talented players.
- 20:09Speaker 7: I mean it's no fluke and sometimes.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Sat Mary's and we're talking about UCLA, right, Yeah, Saint
- 20:15Speaker 1: Mary's not a fluke.
- 20:16Speaker 5: I mean they were not a fluke.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Ucla didn't play their best, there's no doubt about that
- 20:20Speaker 1: baseball team. But they're a good baseball team and they
- 20:23Speaker 1: didn't make it out right, they didn't make it out
- 20:26Speaker 1: cal Poly beat them.
- 20:28Speaker 5: So it there are a lot.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Of good baseball teams, which I think if you get there,
- 20:36Speaker 1: everybody who's gonna get to Omaha. Those eight teams, to me,
- 20:40Speaker 1: everyone's gonna have a shot, right.
- 20:42Speaker 7: Well, you know what makes march madness, of course is underdogs. Yes,
- 20:46Speaker 7: but now when you look in the committee, I think
- 20:49Speaker 7: they got it pretty well. Right. But when you look
- 20:53Speaker 7: at the top thirty two in baseball, how close they
- 20:57Speaker 7: all are.
- 20:57Speaker 5: They seem to be.
- 20:58Speaker 7: To me, it's phenomenal they seem to be to me.
- 21:01Speaker 7: And then suddenly you're thinking, like, there's gonna be three
- 21:04Speaker 7: or four of them get to the College World Series,
- 21:06Speaker 7: I mean, and they're gonna get in the in the
- 21:08Speaker 7: biggest stage.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Well, and to me that makes it even more fun.
- 21:12Speaker 3: I mean, you're not gonna get Troy playing in the
- 21:14Speaker 3: twelve team college football playoffs now. And we saw the
- 21:18Speaker 3: Kansas or Kansas Yeah, and we saw a little bit
- 21:21Speaker 3: of that, you know with the two schools that made it.
- 21:24Speaker 3: They had large schools that didn't belong there. Yes, But
- 21:27Speaker 3: in baseball, I mean, these teams can play a different game. Yeah,
- 21:30Speaker 3: totally different.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Gotta have a pitcher, and if you got to, you
- 21:33Speaker 1: gottage to, you got a shot.
- 21:36Speaker 3: You've got you know, a guy can hit home runs. Yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 3: It's it's a whole different game.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I mean, the Aggies are playing tonight because West, you know,
- 21:43Speaker 1: Western Moss stepped up.
- 21:44Speaker 5: They they've got to have people at you know.
- 21:48Speaker 7: Johnson pitch did I talked about both those guys, you know,
- 21:52Speaker 7: Moss and Johnson's. Yes, you go, man, that's this is
- 21:55Speaker 7: what the playoff, what it's about, these guys. And let's
- 21:59Speaker 7: be honest, it's like when you get to the best
- 22:02Speaker 7: of three, best of seven, like in major leagues or
- 22:05Speaker 7: whatever the NBA, these best of you know, you're really even.
- 22:10Speaker 7: The regional series are best of three. You can get
- 22:12Speaker 7: a couple of easy wins. But now Aina's playing for
- 22:14Speaker 7: its life, you know, and so is the USC.
- 22:16Speaker 5: I mean it's tough.
- 22:17Speaker 7: It's tough to win three games.
- 22:19Speaker 5: In a regional Yes it is.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Well, the game has changed so much too because of
- 22:23Speaker 3: nil and these guys can you know they can recruit
- 22:27Speaker 3: the kids from the lower income families. They couldn't do
- 22:31Speaker 3: that in the past because those kids couldn't survive on
- 22:34Speaker 3: you know, correct a third of a scholarship, had to
- 22:37Speaker 3: take a check, They had to go to the minors.
- 22:39Speaker 3: And so these guys are playing in college baseball today.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely, and.
- 22:45Speaker 7: You look at it. We all played baseball, you know,
- 22:48Speaker 7: I don't care Let's say you're an average player. You
- 22:50Speaker 7: play forty games and you practice, and you've got a
- 22:54Speaker 7: good coach, you're gonna be fundamental. You're if you're a pitcher,
- 22:57Speaker 7: you're gonna get a little better. Right, And so suddenly, oh,
- 23:00Speaker 7: I've never heard of this team. Is some of these
- 23:02Speaker 7: teams get hot at the last half of the season
- 23:04Speaker 7: at all jails. They're infield plays better, their outfield stops hints.
- 23:08Speaker 7: It's amazing what you can do in forty or sixty games.
- 23:11Speaker 7: How much improvement.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Absolutely, all right, we're going to take a break.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I'm telling you this Shorte Tech Oklahoma game is going
- 23:17Speaker 1: down to the wire tied. The shortstop just made an
- 23:21Speaker 1: unbelievable play to maybe save the game.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Time run is on second base. He was, And now
- 23:28Speaker 5: this game is tied. It is seven to seven in the.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Bottom of the night, and the Sooners are still batting
- 23:34Speaker 1: and have a chance to knock Georgia Tech out of
- 23:37Speaker 1: the tournament.
- 23:38Speaker 5: All right, we'll be back here.
- 23:41Speaker 7: It just means more.
- 23:43Speaker 1: By the way, we're going to have Joel Klatt on
- 23:47Speaker 1: tomorrow from a podcast that he does, and he doesn't
- 23:52Speaker 1: believe that. It just means more than the sec I'm

- 27:54Speaker 1: on my phonograph. Yes, exactly, a fun of what phonograph.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Miles Garrett got traded today. Boys, you see that?
- 28:05Speaker 3: Yeah, the Rams are gonna be loaded. Yeah.
- 28:07Speaker 5: There, he's going to a real team. He won't know
- 28:09Speaker 5: what to do. Yeah.
- 28:10Speaker 7: And then how about Jackie Cheryl, Dennis Franchi and Ray
- 28:13Speaker 7: Makers is getting up for the College Football Hall of Fame.
- 28:15Speaker 5: And Mike Leach and Mike Leach.
- 28:16Speaker 7: Don't forget Mike Leach because he's the one you know
- 28:19Speaker 7: you were. You are a trendsetter.
- 28:21Speaker 5: When they change, they change your rules for you.
- 28:23Speaker 7: That's that's all you need to know. When they change
- 28:25Speaker 7: the rule.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Now, I don't know if I read this right, uh cease,
- 28:29Speaker 1: but they changed the rule from six hundred to five
- 28:33Speaker 1: ninety five ninety five because Leech was five.
- 28:41Speaker 7: Or five ninety seven something, right, one of them.
- 28:44Speaker 5: And Jackie Cheryl's at five ninety two somewhere around there.
- 28:46Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah, No, he was about ninety five, so Jackie was.
- 28:50Speaker 1: At okay for seven Okay, they are at five points,
- 28:54Speaker 1: so he he is on there. You mentioned Franconi is
- 28:58Speaker 1: on there, uh with a sixty one percent winning percentage.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Jackie is right at sixty percent. You're right, Uh, okay.
- 29:08Speaker 7: Here's also what I found interesting is looking over that.
- 29:12Speaker 7: Of course Johnny Manziel's not on there, right, but the
- 29:16Speaker 7: Notre Dame linebacker that had the fake girlfriend mateo.
- 29:18Speaker 5: He yeah, my tail man, ty man ty tale.
- 29:21Speaker 7: You can have a fake girlfriend and that's okay, they'll
- 29:24Speaker 7: put you on, but you can't do things. Am I
- 29:27Speaker 7: reading that right? Maybe they don't think Johnny's good enough
- 29:31Speaker 7: yet for that. I don't know. I'm just gonna find
- 29:33Speaker 7: that interesting.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah, that's John's an interesting case because he played two
- 29:37Speaker 3: years and he didn't true. That's true too, so it's
- 29:40Speaker 3: a I mean, but his freshman he was the first
- 29:43Speaker 3: freshman to ever win the Heisman, So I mean, I
- 29:45Speaker 3: think he's a Hall of Famer.
- 29:47Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm just saying this I'm always interested because I'm
- 29:49Speaker 7: on a committee.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I mean, Ray Becken's is a Hall of Famer, right,
- 29:52Speaker 5: no doubt.
- 29:52Speaker 7: No doubt. When you see that, like it's like, oh, yeah,
- 29:55Speaker 7: he needs to be in the Coush Football for you
- 29:57Speaker 7: don't you don't think of things, and let's be honest.
- 30:00Speaker 7: In the nineties, and he didn't have a lot of
- 30:01Speaker 7: those players that were just really good.
- 30:04Speaker 3: You know who I saw pictures of at the Dallas
- 30:07Speaker 3: A and M Club event. Greg Hill looks amazing nice.
- 30:13Speaker 3: I'm telling you what, man, that guy looks like he's
- 30:15Speaker 3: in better shape than when exactly he looks fanta. I
- 30:22Speaker 3: saw Hunter Goodwin too, and he was up there and
- 30:24Speaker 3: he goes, oh my god, he looks like he's that's awesome, yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 5: Because we don't see a lot of that anymore.
- 30:30Speaker 3: No, And you know, he had some really concussion issues
- 30:33Speaker 3: and he told me about some of the things. He
- 30:36Speaker 3: lost his marriage because some of that marriage because of
- 30:39Speaker 3: the concussion issues. He told me that it was so
- 30:42Speaker 3: awful because he would have to drive with somebody because
- 30:45Speaker 3: he pull up to a stop sign and wait for
- 30:47Speaker 3: its turn green. I mean was that he would just look,
- 30:50Speaker 3: you know, terrible stuff. So to see him doing so well.
- 30:54Speaker 3: I'm very mat me, very happy. He's a good guy.
- 30:56Speaker 5: Oh that's cool, very cool. College football playoff schedule was
- 31:04Speaker 5: released today.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Two things to what's going on.
- 31:07Speaker 5: Two things that you look at.
- 31:10Speaker 1: ESPN has sold one to three four five games. They
- 31:17Speaker 1: have sold their rights to five games to tn T,
- 31:21Speaker 1: True TV and HBO Max. They sold yeah, because they
- 31:26Speaker 1: paid too much for the NBA they sold the board.
- 31:29Speaker 5: They have not.
- 31:31Speaker 1: We just there's just more and more and more that
- 31:34Speaker 1: that ESPN is farming out and selling playoff games, playoff games.
- 31:41Speaker 3: So HBO Max m is going to do a playoff game, Well,
- 31:47Speaker 3: I think it will be also available.
- 31:51Speaker 1: In fact, I know these games will be available over
- 31:56Speaker 1: cable with tn.
- 31:56Speaker 5: T and True TV as well as HBO Max.
- 31:59Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, because I was about to say that they
- 32:02Speaker 3: haven't done it yet.
- 32:03Speaker 1: We know they're going to, right, Okay, it's and they
- 32:07Speaker 1: won't wait until the negotiations if they if and when
- 32:10Speaker 1: they ever decide on on how many playoff teams they
- 32:14Speaker 1: are going to be and somebody ever gets a handle
- 32:17Speaker 1: on all of this stuff. Do you know that we're
- 32:22Speaker 1: going to be paying for these playoff games? There's no
- 32:24Speaker 1: question in my mind, so maybe not all of them.
- 32:27Speaker 7: I'll get back to the public somehow. Advertising.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna have to pay movie paying for
- 32:32Speaker 3: food at a sports bar because I pay so much
- 32:35Speaker 3: already for the packforse packages and the direct TV. And
- 32:40Speaker 3: then man, I have Friday Night. I have to have
- 32:42Speaker 3: Victory the Victory app, so that watch the Rangers. That's
- 32:46Speaker 3: another couple hundred dollars a year that's spent. Yeah, I
- 32:49Speaker 3: don't blame anybody because I spent it, Okay, but I
- 32:53Speaker 3: don't There's there's got to be a point in time where, yeah,
- 32:57Speaker 3: I was in Charleston, South Carolina, and I pulled up
- 32:59Speaker 3: the Victory app and I'm like, no, I'm blacked out
- 33:02Speaker 3: because I'm outside the Rangers, Okay. And then I pulled
- 33:07Speaker 3: up my my app to listen to the game, and
- 33:10Speaker 3: I'm blacked out there too.
- 33:11Speaker 5: It was like, oh, I didn't know that. I didn't
- 33:15Speaker 5: know that you should win.
- 33:16Speaker 7: If it's called victory, you should get some kind of
- 33:18Speaker 7: discount of they lose.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Hey, we had a good week end.
- 33:21Speaker 5: I hope you ate well. If you didn't, it's your fault.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Charleston was a great place.
- 33:25Speaker 5: Charleston is a great food city.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and we were there for Memorial Day. And I'm
- 33:29Speaker 3: a history buff and I didn't know Memorial Day started
- 33:32Speaker 3: in Charleston's.
- 33:33Speaker 5: I didn't either.
- 33:33Speaker 3: It was really very interesting that we went out to
- 33:36Speaker 3: Fort Sumter where the first shots were fired in the
- 33:39Speaker 3: Civil War.
- 33:40Speaker 5: So a lot of I learned a lot a lot
- 33:42Speaker 5: of history there.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Yeah, very cool.
- 33:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I've never been.
- 33:47Speaker 3: It's great place.
- 33:48Speaker 5: I've been to Savannah, I've been to Hilton had but
- 33:51Speaker 5: I never quite made it to Charleston because.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Charleston the first shots were there. The Union Army really
- 33:58Speaker 3: did everything possible to destroy the whole city. Yes, and
- 34:01Speaker 3: they did a pretty good job. Now they've rebuilt it.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Matter of fact, the building where the slave trade was done,
- 34:09Speaker 3: it's still there. It's like it's like a marketplace. It's
- 34:11Speaker 3: like kind of fascinating. It's like, that's weird part of this.
- 34:15Speaker 5: There's a lot of history there.
- 34:16Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 34:16Speaker 5: Yeah, it goes back away. Yeah, but we don't.
- 34:20Speaker 3: But we don't know.
- 34:21Speaker 1: So I want to go back to this college football
- 34:24Speaker 1: playoff schedule. Okay, first game is on a Friday night,
- 34:29Speaker 1: December eighteenth. Okay, that is these are campus games Friday night,
- 34:35Speaker 1: three games Saturday all of those on campus. First quarterfinal
- 34:41Speaker 1: is not for because you have Christmas a week later,
- 34:44Speaker 1: So the first quarterfinal game is not until December thirtieth. Wow, okay,
- 34:51Speaker 1: they're not doing New Year's Eve this year. Okay, so
- 34:54Speaker 1: December thirtieth is the Fiesta Bowl Friday January. For first,
- 35:00Speaker 1: we've got three games at eleven AM New Year's Morning,
- 35:06Speaker 1: three pm, seven pm. Three quarterfinals to be determined.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Then will be traditional for the Cotton Bowl to be
- 35:15Speaker 3: at eleven because that's where.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Two weeks after that, two weeks you have the semifinals.
- 35:23Speaker 1: The Orange Bowl is January the fourteenth, The Sugar Bowl
- 35:30Speaker 1: is January the fifteenth. God did not create those two
- 35:35Speaker 1: bowl games to be played in the middle of.
- 35:37Speaker 5: January, and then that's something pastage.
- 35:40Speaker 1: The championship game is ten days after that, January.
- 35:47Speaker 5: Twenty fifth, Monday night.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Again, God did not intend college football to be played
- 35:53Speaker 1: on Monday night.
- 35:55Speaker 5: The Super Bowl in Las Vegas. We're dead to that. Yeah,
- 35:57Speaker 5: I know we're going to get close to that.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess less you play it the Monday after
- 36:02Speaker 3: the Super Bowl since they you know, they played they
- 36:05Speaker 3: loved to on Mondays for some stupid reason.
- 36:07Speaker 5: Yeah. I don't know because there's nothing else that's.
- 36:09Speaker 3: So well, because they don't want to compete with the NFL.
- 36:12Speaker 3: That's a fact. Thoughts, that's too late.
- 36:17Speaker 7: Well, now that we see that they're trying to head
- 36:19Speaker 7: that way, they finally once again you wake up and go,
- 36:22Speaker 7: these games are the season's going too long?
- 36:24Speaker 1: Well, but what happened last year is Indiana kind of
- 36:27Speaker 1: screwed everything because the ratings were way up.
- 36:30Speaker 5: Right.
- 36:30Speaker 1: You had a Cinderella team, a great story, and the
- 36:34Speaker 1: ratings for these games were up.
- 36:36Speaker 5: And that's the other reason.
- 36:38Speaker 1: No other thing we've talked about is they've got to
- 36:40Speaker 1: fix college football. Well, the ratings for TV are up. Yeah,
- 36:46Speaker 1: the attendance was up. You had a lot of newcomers
- 36:49Speaker 1: last year. That helped too.
- 36:50Speaker 5: I think it helped.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Yeah, And you know it's just yeah, like you said,
- 36:56Speaker 3: you want to fix it. Well, it's more popular than ever.
- 36:59Speaker 7: Yeah, Well you get back to what are you talking about?
- 37:02Speaker 7: It's all about money, and right now money's rolling in
- 37:04Speaker 7: and or doing all this. And you know, I like
- 37:08Speaker 7: to sit here and say dooms coming, but it never has.
- 37:10Speaker 5: It has not.
- 37:11Speaker 7: So's it's just more and more.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I mean, it's pretty obvious from Sankey's comments last week
- 37:16Speaker 1: they are not getting off six sixteen team. I think
- 37:23Speaker 1: twelve teams should be another two to three years because
- 37:26Speaker 1: we need, you know.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Some time, more down. I don't think yes, more data.
- 37:30Speaker 5: I like more doubt. RUSTI no, I'm with you too.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Just like you've already talked about the blowouts in the
- 37:36Speaker 1: first round.
- 37:37Speaker 3: Right, I mean, there's teams that just don't belong on
- 37:41Speaker 3: this current system, and so I just I don't know.
- 37:44Speaker 3: I don't want to see expand I sure don't want
- 37:47Speaker 3: to see expanded twenty four. I just sixteen is the
- 37:51Speaker 3: max I think for the teams. It just gets too deluted.
- 37:56Speaker 3: So at certain point it's like the basketball. I hate
- 38:00Speaker 3: the fact that they're going up.
- 38:01Speaker 5: Me too, I just hate it. Sixty seventy six teams.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Sixty and then sixty eight. I was like, well that
- 38:09Speaker 3: seems kind of stupid, But now seventy two, I just
- 38:12Speaker 3: I hate it.
- 38:12Speaker 7: I get in my old man crony. I love the
- 38:14Speaker 7: march madness.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Too, and I never know pay Oklahomas just won the
- 38:18Speaker 1: game with the walk off home run in the bottom
- 38:21Speaker 1: of the tenth innings. Georgia Tech is out, U c
- 38:25Speaker 1: l A Is out. The top two teams gone. Uh,
- 38:30Speaker 1: the Sooners have come back, which they did the entire weekend.
- 38:33Speaker 1: And by the way they can hit the ball, they're
- 38:35Speaker 1: gonna be dangerous.
- 38:36Speaker 5: Yep.
- 38:37Speaker 7: Well, I Forcid of their coaches, but I like him.
- 38:39Speaker 13: He does.
- 38:40Speaker 7: He does a good job up there.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And hey, I thought they were built on pitching early
- 38:44Speaker 1: in the season, and this weekend they have mashed Ain't.
- 38:48Speaker 7: Him in a great series against them. I could have
- 38:50Speaker 7: gone either way. It was up there, it was yes,
- 38:52Speaker 7: it was here eight m prig wins two Yes, and uh,
- 38:56Speaker 7: you know what again, what are we talking about eight
- 38:58Speaker 7: seven to ten innings? Everything's on the line. I mean,
- 39:01Speaker 7: come on, one swing, one pitch.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I mean, when you would look at these kids on
- 39:05Speaker 1: both sides, it's it's the thrill of victory, the agony
- 39:08Speaker 1: of defeat.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Man, it is.
- 39:11Speaker 1: And you know what I was thinking about this yesterday,
- 39:14Speaker 1: watching as as we as much as we rail on this,
- 39:18Speaker 1: and as much as I hate talking about the business
- 39:21Speaker 1: and sports, which is not why I got into this, right, No,
- 39:24Speaker 1: I never got into this to talk about how much
- 39:27Speaker 1: money is this and how many players are doing this,
- 39:30Speaker 1: and how big the contracts are and how much the
- 39:32Speaker 1: coaches are getting I never got in. What I got
- 39:35Speaker 1: into it are moments like this. This is real and
- 39:41Speaker 1: I didn't get in it to see the NFL manipulate things,
- 39:47Speaker 1: and especially the NBA.
- 39:48Speaker 5: They're the worst in the world with their pig pong balls.
- 39:51Speaker 5: I got into it.
- 39:52Speaker 1: For this, the joy, the thrill of victory, as we
- 39:56Speaker 1: used to say, the wide world of sports, and the
- 39:58Speaker 1: agony of defeat.
- 39:59Speaker 5: No get it.
- 40:00Speaker 3: But like we said earlier, the college football thing that
- 40:03Speaker 3: we say, we got it correct.
- 40:04Speaker 5: Yeah, well, the NFL has never.
- 40:05Speaker 3: Been more popular too, like what it's taken in. Yeah,
- 40:09Speaker 3: I mean I don't follow it like I used to.
- 40:10Speaker 3: I don't either, but apparently a lot of people do
- 40:13Speaker 3: well in that that fantasy leagues have turned out.
- 40:17Speaker 5: Let's and they've done the same thing with football. You
- 40:21Speaker 5: know now used to but you want to.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Play these fantasy leagues. They didn't care about watching the NFL.
- 40:28Speaker 5: I get that.
- 40:29Speaker 1: But I'm just telling you, I'm talking about all of
- 40:32Speaker 1: the betting uh companies now that that advertise on college
- 40:39Speaker 1: and by the way, we've got to announce I saw
- 40:41Speaker 1: this the other day. The announcer jumps in and goes
- 40:45Speaker 1: and this portion is brought to you the female uh
- 40:49Speaker 1: person on the sideline reporter.
- 40:51Speaker 5: This portion program is brought to you by Drafting fan
- 40:55Speaker 5: Duel and I'm going what no world.
- 40:59Speaker 7: But getting to you said when you watch this, I'm
- 41:03Speaker 7: with you one hundred percent because I think we've all
- 41:05Speaker 7: been around long enough. You hate to say it, but
- 41:08Speaker 7: when you talk to the losing teams in a situation
- 41:11Speaker 7: like this, you appreciate sports because they hurt so bad. Yes,
- 41:15Speaker 7: they put so much in and yeah, I always tell
- 41:18Speaker 7: people I judge athletes and coaches after that how they
- 41:22Speaker 7: handle losses. Anybody can handle them.
- 41:24Speaker 5: I think you can judge life by that came.
- 41:26Speaker 7: Yeah, but you know, and it's like, if this is
- 41:29Speaker 7: why you play baseball. That both teams Georgia Tech had aspirations,
- 41:34Speaker 7: thought they'd probably win a national championsip, don't even get
- 41:37Speaker 7: out the regions.
- 41:37Speaker 1: You can just that whole devastated and they did a
- 41:40Speaker 1: lot just like UCLA yesterday.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Disbelieve.
- 41:43Speaker 7: But then Oklahoma they feel like they just owned the world.
- 41:47Speaker 1: That's what you play for they day to day, that's
- 41:48Speaker 1: why you play. Well, come back the Rangers Report. It's
- 41:51Speaker 1: brought to you by SHILTI Roofing and the Decker Financial Group.
- 41:54Speaker 9: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 41:57Speaker 9: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 41:59Speaker 9: I found Shorlty Roofing and POI I'm glad I did.
- 42:02Speaker 9: The folks at Shorlty guided me every step of the way.
- 42:05Speaker 9: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 42:07Speaker 9: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 42:10Speaker 9: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 42:13Speaker 9: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 42:15Speaker 9: did all the clean up, and I had my new

- 43:11Speaker 14: Texas jumped out in front in the first inning, scoring
- 43:13Speaker 14: four runs, including a two RBI triple from Ezekiel Duran.
- 43:17Speaker 13: You want two outs, noo score first inning, the pitch
- 43:20Speaker 13: swung on in a high fly ball to deep left field.
- 43:23Speaker 13: Colin's going back, still going back, and it's beyond his
- 43:25Speaker 13: reach off the wall. One runs home. Here comes Burger
- 43:28Speaker 13: around third. He's coming to the plate all the way
- 43:31Speaker 13: to third, sliding in with a triple as Ezekiel Duran
- 43:35Speaker 13: and the Rangers lead to nothing in the first.
- 43:38Speaker 14: Already with the four to nothing lead, Texas played two
- 43:40Speaker 14: more in the fourth with the Josh Young single. Kansas
- 43:42Speaker 14: City would cut into the lead, scoring one in the
- 43:44Speaker 14: seventh and two in the eighth, but Jacob Blatz was
- 43:46Speaker 14: able to shut the door in the ninth. The Rangers
- 43:48Speaker 14: are in Saint Louis today to play the Cardinals, with

- 44:33Speaker 12: Listen in Weekdays limit at two in the.
- 44:35Speaker 16: Zoom Welcome back.
- 44:46Speaker 5: Robert Sessen is here, Rusty Berson is here.
- 44:48Speaker 1: We're brought to you on Mondays by in Tech and
- 44:53Speaker 1: college baseball is ruling the day right now. Because I
- 44:57Speaker 1: don't pay attention to the NBA, I do know that
- 45:00Speaker 1: the Stanley Cup Finals start tomorrow night.
- 45:02Speaker 5: I'm watching the softball too, and my wife's been watching that.
- 45:06Speaker 7: Texas is in the finals now and they could repeat
- 45:10Speaker 7: as champs. And uh, I got to give Mike White credit.
- 45:13Speaker 7: He's done a great job down there with that, with
- 45:15Speaker 7: that program. Something that they couldn't win.
- 45:17Speaker 5: They lost early in the tournament, right, Yeah, they lost.
- 45:20Speaker 7: And came back. They beat Tennessee twice today.
- 45:22Speaker 5: Okay, but you know, I.
- 45:24Speaker 7: Think they couldn't win with Connie Clark when they had cats.
- 45:27Speaker 1: How about the shout how about the shout out that
- 45:30Speaker 1: the USC coach gave to Trisha Ford yesterday?
- 45:34Speaker 5: Well that great, Yeah, that's awesome.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and and for for people, And that was because
- 45:40Speaker 1: I don't follow it like you do sees, but I
- 45:43Speaker 1: know people are upset. Well, they're supposed to win last
- 45:45Speaker 1: year and then they would get out this year. And
- 45:47Speaker 1: I'm gLing, I'll tell you what, you go out and
- 45:50Speaker 1: find me a better head coach. And you know it's
- 45:53Speaker 1: it's always to say because whatever the home team loses,
- 45:57Speaker 1: like we need to do coach. And I'm just throwing
- 45:59Speaker 1: this out of as an example, but it's like, be.
- 46:02Speaker 5: Careful what you be? Careful what you asked for?
- 46:05Speaker 7: She had two pictures and one of her pictures, wasn't
- 46:07Speaker 7: it one hundred percent? When the playoffs come, you can't
- 46:09Speaker 7: and we're seeing the baseball. You can't control injuries and
- 46:13Speaker 7: then the n C doua a. How in the world
- 46:16Speaker 7: the Arizona State softball team was eleven and thirteen in
- 46:19Speaker 7: league play when they had an All American pitcher who
- 46:22Speaker 7: came in and beat A and them twice. You know,
- 46:24Speaker 7: it's like it's you know what, what what matters?
- 46:27Speaker 5: It's a crazy game.
- 46:28Speaker 3: Coaching in talent and coaching doesn't matter.
- 46:32Speaker 5: I think we said that, haven't we.
- 46:34Speaker 7: Bottom line is if you if you haven't got the
- 46:37Speaker 7: know Trisha Ford, she is held. You can say this
- 46:40Speaker 7: about all coaches or hell bent on winning. You know
- 46:43Speaker 7: she she is driven. She is she is really driven.
- 46:46Speaker 7: And what's thought. What's funny is when I talked to
- 46:48Speaker 7: her the other day in the in the in the
- 46:50Speaker 7: uh oup, in the press box, who else walks by, calm, cool,
- 46:54Speaker 7: collected is Mark Mark Weaver? You know? And what what
- 46:58Speaker 7: works works? And for Weaver, I mean I said, congratulations,
- 47:01Speaker 7: you do it once, but you do it twice and
- 47:04Speaker 7: you're right.
- 47:05Speaker 5: It's not accidental.
- 47:06Speaker 7: Yeah, it's not accedental. And be careful what you wish
- 47:09Speaker 7: for because what I always go back to the great
- 47:12Speaker 7: Bear of bright you throw pass three things can happen.
- 47:15Speaker 7: I one of them are good. You fire a coach
- 47:17Speaker 7: or whatever. Yeah, you can get better, but guess what,
- 47:19Speaker 7: you get worse or it can stay the same. Yeah,
- 47:22Speaker 7: and you can spend a lot more money.
- 47:24Speaker 3: But you also have to roll the dice sometimes.
- 47:26Speaker 7: Yes, we talked about we can go, we can go
- 47:29Speaker 7: through the long list, Buzz Dennis Franchona. You gotta cut
- 47:33Speaker 7: the cut the cord, and you got to say see
- 47:35Speaker 7: ya and move on.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Well, those those two programs are much better after those
- 47:40Speaker 3: last two coaches moved on. I mean, where Bucky has
- 47:44Speaker 3: taken this program in one year, and where Mike Yelko
- 47:48Speaker 3: has taken a football program and where he's directly there's
- 47:51Speaker 3: no comparison. So I mean, yeah, you could stick with it.
- 47:54Speaker 3: It would have been a lot cheaper to stick with
- 47:57Speaker 3: the football coach, but it's better to have Mike.
- 48:01Speaker 1: By the way, Troy is now up two to nothing
- 48:03Speaker 1: on Florida in the third inning.
- 48:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, it's crazy in Gainesville.
- 48:08Speaker 7: And they're getting pitching. So, like I said tonight, we
- 48:10Speaker 7: don't know what we're gonna get.
- 48:11Speaker 1: We don't know what we're gonna get. I'll be shocked,
- 48:14Speaker 1: but hey, you're right, you're right. I still start fresh corn. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 48:20Speaker 1: I would. He's your best picture. I would too, I mean,
- 48:24Speaker 1: he's your best I'll.
- 48:25Speaker 7: Be interested to see what are you saving it for?
- 48:27Speaker 7: USC's best picture? Who only threw eighty some pitches in
- 48:30Speaker 7: his first day and on Friday. If they could bring
- 48:32Speaker 7: their guy back, that's strong twenty. If he throws one
- 48:35Speaker 7: hundred and forty five and he's like your best guy,
- 48:37Speaker 7: can't this guy go through sixty show.
- 48:39Speaker 5: I'm reading the new biography on Nolan Ryan right now.
- 48:42Speaker 7: He's pretty good.
- 48:43Speaker 3: Yeah he was.
- 48:44Speaker 5: Okay. Tim Brown wrote it and it's I'm almost finished
- 48:48Speaker 5: with it.
- 48:49Speaker 3: Okay, I read that after you you can.
- 48:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna have Tim on the show next week. I
- 48:55Speaker 1: did want to mention I'm going to have Richard Pryor's
- 48:57Speaker 1: daughter on the show next week, and I haven't because
- 49:01Speaker 1: I'm reading this one and trying to finish it. I
- 49:03Speaker 1: haven't started this one yet, but the premise to me
- 49:07Speaker 1: is really interesting. It's kind of prior an exploration of
- 49:16Speaker 1: the historical and contemporary use of the slang for blacks historically,
- 49:24Speaker 1: and Richard Pryor used that. Richard Pryor wrote it into
- 49:29Speaker 1: blazing saddles. I didn't realize that he was part of
- 49:33Speaker 1: the writing of Blazing Saddle. And I just saw this
- 49:36Speaker 1: clip today with cleveand Little when he rides into town,
- 49:41Speaker 1: nobody moved or the sheriff gets it and the people
- 49:44Speaker 1: calling out the new sheriff is, you know, and that
- 49:48Speaker 1: wouldn't fly today. So I am so interested to talk
- 49:53Speaker 1: to her about her research about her father, who was brilliant.
- 49:58Speaker 3: Well we think about that. Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy
- 50:00Speaker 3: both made so much money and they used that slang. Yes,
- 50:03Speaker 3: they did their self deprecating and it was a totally
- 50:07Speaker 3: different comedy in.
- 50:08Speaker 1: A different era, and people weren't offended nearly as easily
- 50:12Speaker 1: as they are today, because people are offended about everything today.
- 50:17Speaker 5: Would make a comeback, well, I think, but I wouldn't.
- 50:20Speaker 1: But you know what, the comedians have pushed back, and
- 50:24Speaker 1: I'm you know, I'm proud of them if if they
- 50:26Speaker 1: are big enough, you know, in the arena, to push
- 50:30Speaker 1: back that people will listen and say, look, this stuff's
- 50:34Speaker 1: been You know, Lenny Bruce was put in jail for
- 50:37Speaker 1: the language that he used, right, not not racial, just
- 50:41Speaker 1: the language he was put in jail. And you know,
- 50:45Speaker 1: I don't want I don't want to get on a
- 50:47Speaker 1: whole diatribe of free speech here, but but you know,
- 50:51Speaker 1: turn turn it off that clubs. I mean, you have
- 50:54Speaker 1: an on off switch, and people make that decision about
- 50:57Speaker 1: me mostly off every day. But you know, and there
- 51:02Speaker 1: are certain things and you know the seven words you
- 51:06Speaker 1: can't say on television, right, But I know I got
- 51:12Speaker 1: off on a tangent.
- 51:13Speaker 5: But that's what we do here.
- 51:14Speaker 3: You started talking about Nolan Ryan.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I did, so I started with Nolan Ryan because you
- 51:19Speaker 1: talked about pitching. You were talking about one hundred and
- 51:21Speaker 1: twenty five pitches, and of course Nolan was going to
- 51:24Speaker 1: finish what he started, and he was going to throw
- 51:27Speaker 1: two hundred and thirty five or two hundred and forty
- 51:29Speaker 1: or two hundred and fifty pitches and did multiple times.
- 51:34Speaker 1: And we know that he was a freak. His arm
- 51:37Speaker 1: was a freak. It did his he had he would
- 51:41Speaker 1: have had. And I didn't remember this rusty Tommy John
- 51:45Speaker 1: surgery back before he came to the Rangers and decided
- 51:52Speaker 1: I'm just gonna let it rest.
- 51:54Speaker 5: It was used, so I didn't know it either.
- 51:57Speaker 1: There were several things in this book to me that
- 52:00Speaker 1: that I didn't know. Okay, some things that Nolan did
- 52:05Speaker 1: behind the scenes for people.
- 52:07Speaker 3: That a column about Tim Callshaw about this book. Yes,
- 52:11Speaker 3: so it made me interested. And you know another book
- 52:14Speaker 3: that I really want to read that you might be
- 52:15Speaker 3: interested in is t R. Sullivan's got his kind of.
- 52:17Speaker 5: His ministry the Rangers. Well it's not.
- 52:20Speaker 3: Really it's his life in baseball.
- 52:21Speaker 5: But I do want to read that. But I didn't
- 52:23Speaker 5: know it was out.
- 52:24Speaker 3: It's all about the Rangers. So t R is an
- 52:26Speaker 3: old friend of mine, and so I can get you
- 52:29Speaker 3: his contact information. You will reach out to him and
- 52:32Speaker 3: get that.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Book from Yeah, yeah, text me that if you don't mind,
- 52:35Speaker 1: if you think about it.
- 52:36Speaker 7: Yep, they just showed the twelve people that have punch
- 52:39Speaker 7: tickets are advancing to super Regionals. Yes, five of them
- 52:43Speaker 7: were not seated, so seven it's seven to five in
- 52:46Speaker 7: favor of the seats. So you talk about.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Five unseated teams that were that were not in the
- 52:52Speaker 1: top sixteen, that's what you're saying, we're.
- 52:54Speaker 7: In the top sixteen.
- 52:55Speaker 5: I mean it's a weekend. I mean it is it
- 52:58Speaker 5: is a weekend, and and uh.
- 53:01Speaker 3: Take you finish at the very bottom of the SEC
- 53:03Speaker 3: and so I mean, I know they're they're they're down
- 53:06Speaker 3: here one to nothing. But yeah, you just never know.
- 53:09Speaker 5: It's baseball.
- 53:10Speaker 3: It's baseball.
- 53:11Speaker 7: Troy's winning, So that'd be another one that's unseated.
- 53:15Speaker 1: And Florida always have has those those athletes that look
- 53:19Speaker 1: like football team.
- 53:21Speaker 7: Anybody, any teams always thick of underachieving programs. Florida State
- 53:25Speaker 7: baseball and also Southern Mississippi baseball seems when they get
- 53:29Speaker 7: the host they lose. And you know, it's tough when
- 53:34Speaker 7: you're not a big power like that, then you lose.
- 53:36Speaker 7: No one goes those games after they went out after
- 53:38Speaker 7: a couple of losses, and you go, like, I get it.
- 53:40Speaker 7: They had a good resume, but they just can't handle
- 53:43Speaker 7: the spotlight.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, so Florida State historically in Arkansas can't
- 53:47Speaker 1: get there either. And you know, Dave van horn in
- 53:50Speaker 1: that program has been unbelievable and they cannot get there.
- 53:53Speaker 7: Felt bad for Nebraska watching some of their games. Oh
- 53:55Speaker 7: my gosh, was that was that an atmosphere? Yeah?
- 53:58Speaker 1: And you know, and I know and and and look
- 54:01Speaker 1: you you could take some and field compared to any
- 54:04Speaker 1: atmosphere in America by far right and that show don't
- 54:08Speaker 1: misunderstand me, but I have seen it, and and that
- 54:11Speaker 1: was one cees.
- 54:12Speaker 5: You know what else was rocking? Kansas? Yes, Kansas baseball
- 54:18Speaker 5: was rocking.
- 54:19Speaker 3: You know, I've been there, and I could have never
- 54:21Speaker 3: imagined never rocking. I went there because especially.
- 54:24Speaker 1: In a February February game when there's only parents in
- 54:28Speaker 1: the stand.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Well, I was there when A and M got knocked
- 54:30Speaker 3: out early in the Big twelve tournament like they did
- 54:33Speaker 3: every year in basketball, and they just happened to be
- 54:35Speaker 3: playing there in Lawrence. Over there, it's like empty. It
- 54:38Speaker 3: was empty.
- 54:39Speaker 7: Crickets the first pitch.
- 54:41Speaker 5: Maybe then they show up. You know you're gonna have
- 54:45Speaker 5: a bill self to pay night. Sorry, I didn't mean
- 54:49Speaker 5: that you like me beat.
- 54:51Speaker 7: Orkansas gentlemen, We're done here.
