- 0:00Speaker 1: In retrospect when I look back, I'm like, this is
- 0:03Speaker 1: really wilder.
- 0:15Speaker 2: And what's up? Y'all?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to a very special episode of For All Nerds.
- 0:20Speaker 3: It's your boy, DJ Ben I mean ak A Jetta
- 0:25Speaker 3: and Master day La Soul Handolo, Kailo Binchchewbacca, Khan Lando, Californication,
- 0:31Speaker 3: the Riz Skywalker here in the spaceship and I'm joined
- 0:35Speaker 3: by a very special guest.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Tonight, what's going on to s Mellow Brown aka Brown
- 0:41Speaker 4: Recluse because I've been away for a while, but.
- 0:44Speaker 1: That you have, that you have, but you are back.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Welcome back, Mellow Brown, not Mellow Marketer anymore, just Mellow Brown.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Mellow Brown is Mellow Brown.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It is longtime fans of the show know my brother
- 0:56Speaker 1: Mellow you know, I mean you might know us from
- 0:58Speaker 1: a little bit. Jim Hendri's Purple Haze in stores now
- 1:01Speaker 1: you better get a copy before it's sold out completely.
- 1:05Speaker 1: But tonight we are not here to talk about that. Tonight,
- 1:08Speaker 1: we are here to give you the reasons why you
- 1:12Speaker 1: should be watching and or if you have not seen
- 1:15Speaker 1: it on Disney Plus. Season two is dropping April twenty second,
- 1:21Speaker 1: and we are here to prepare you by that, you know,
- 1:23Speaker 1: just to talk a little about season one and you
- 1:26Speaker 1: know some of the reasons why we think it's just
- 1:27Speaker 1: one of the best shows ever lately, Mellow, I've been
- 1:31Speaker 1: you know, The Wire to me is usually my standard.
- 1:35Speaker 1: You know, when I talk about great television shows, it's
- 1:38Speaker 1: like The Wire. I always throw Lost in there.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Of course.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Of course, you know Watchmen, you know, is one of
- 1:44Speaker 1: my phaves. Yeah, I never rewatched it. You know, I
- 1:48Speaker 1: watched it enough, you know, during it, but I didn't
- 1:51Speaker 1: rewatch it to see how it holds up lift country
- 1:54Speaker 1: body when you go back. I wouldn't doubt it. I
- 1:58Speaker 1: wouldn't doubt it. And that's what I mean things like
- 2:01Speaker 1: The Wire. You know, I've watched multiple times. Most have
- 2:03Speaker 1: Lost I've seen multiple times. And now and or I
- 2:08Speaker 1: just finished rewatching Season one. I did not watch season
- 2:13Speaker 1: one since Season one came out. I think I watched
- 2:16Speaker 1: most of that like twice when it came out, but
- 2:19Speaker 1: since then I had.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Not watched it.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And just like last week, I finished my rewatch of
- 2:24Speaker 1: season one and I was blown away. Every moment that
- 2:28Speaker 1: fed me up the first time I watched it f
- 2:30Speaker 1: me up the second time I watched it It's just
- 2:33Speaker 1: a tremendous piece of work, and it made me really think,
- 2:36Speaker 1: like if they sit the landing with this with season two,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm really gonna have to start putting them in there,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know, in that category of oh, when you talk about, oh,
- 2:45Speaker 1: is it as good as an and Or?
- 2:46Speaker 4: Basically, it definitely puts me in a place where it's like,
- 2:51Speaker 4: like I have been chasing the and Or high and
- 2:54Speaker 4: I will say that I have had like two shows
- 2:57Speaker 4: that have kind of like met me either where I
- 2:58Speaker 4: am in regards to that feeling. But at the same time,
- 3:04Speaker 4: when I go back and watch and Or, I'm like,
- 3:06Speaker 4: I was, no, if it's not the case, There's there's
- 3:09Speaker 4: nothing specifically like like it. And I think this will
- 3:14Speaker 4: be the last of its kind as well, which is
- 3:16Speaker 4: kind of like the wild thing about it, like it's
- 3:19Speaker 4: so much in its own realm as to how it works,
- 3:24Speaker 4: especially because when is the last time we had a
- 3:26Speaker 4: show of just like full Leftist. We have a lot
- 3:29Speaker 4: of TV show and a lot of people can argue
- 3:32Speaker 4: that like a lot of television has been more on
- 3:34Speaker 4: like the more progressive side, but and Or is something
- 3:39Speaker 4: that is left. It is definitely like this is this
- 3:45Speaker 4: is a TV show about the moment, about all these
- 3:49Speaker 4: old microaggressions and all the things that are happening in
- 3:51Speaker 4: your life, and all of the totalitarianism and the authoritarianism
- 3:56Speaker 4: that is like just shadowing over you. And when it's
- 4:00Speaker 4: triggers you to throw a brick through a cop card
- 4:03Speaker 4: and it's bowing that up. I mean, I haven't been
- 4:13Speaker 4: here for a while. I know what I can and
- 4:14Speaker 4: cannot condumb, but I will say that it is taking
- 4:19Speaker 4: the point of view of someone where it's like, you
- 4:22Speaker 4: know someone who has felt like this, you know, whether
- 4:27Speaker 4: it be yourself, someone that is like your neighbor, someone
- 4:32Speaker 4: that you've seen get picked up for just walking down
- 4:35Speaker 4: the street for no reason, for someone who is experiencing
- 4:40Speaker 4: the like the worst level of misogyny that turns into attacks,
- 4:43Speaker 4: just different things that can happen to them as a person,
- 4:47Speaker 4: and what will be the day when they start to
- 4:50Speaker 4: push back? And it's doing this to you the viewer
- 4:53Speaker 4: in the process, where it's just like, have you started
- 4:55Speaker 4: asking yourself this? And I don't know another TV show
- 4:59Speaker 4: this to do that that's such a dangerous thing to do.
- 5:02Speaker 4: And the fact that we even have it on television.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Let alone. Disney Plus is really wild.
- 5:09Speaker 2: It really is.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Now, what were the first what were the other two
- 5:13Speaker 1: shows you said that almost gave you the feeling?
- 5:18Speaker 4: I would say Severns second season two is like a
- 5:22Speaker 4: work of art. I think it's also one of those
- 5:23Speaker 4: things where it's like it has the advantage of who
- 5:27Speaker 4: would have guessed that Ben Stiller may be one of
- 5:29Speaker 4: the best directors of television history, and I wouldn't doubt
- 5:36Speaker 4: that probably stretches the film. I saw the finale at
- 5:39Speaker 4: the screening at the w g A, and that is
- 5:42Speaker 4: one of the That is the best looking thing I've
- 5:44Speaker 4: seen on the screen in like the past three to
- 5:46Speaker 4: four years. And like I saw Doom too there too,
- 5:49Speaker 4: So it just blew that out of the water. It's
- 5:52Speaker 4: insane how good of a director he is. And then
- 5:55Speaker 4: the he directed the finale, all the episodes, he directed
- 6:00Speaker 4: most of them. He had two other ladies come in
- 6:03Speaker 4: for specific episodes.
- 6:05Speaker 2: But yeah, what what do you call it? The that
- 6:09Speaker 2: the memory episode? Yeah?
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yeah, And the dude who created never gets any burn Like,
- 6:16Speaker 1: he never gets any mention, And so I wish I
- 6:18Speaker 1: knew his name to actually do it, but I.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Know there's a h he's been on like the press tour,
- 6:23Speaker 4: and I know that there was a lot going on
- 6:25Speaker 4: behind the scenes there which was involved with they have
- 6:30Speaker 4: multiple showrunners at a point, but I don't want to
- 6:32Speaker 4: get into that. I don't know the details. I just
- 6:35Speaker 4: love the show.
- 6:36Speaker 2: It's worked out. What's the other one?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Uh? The other one has actually just been the believe
- 6:43Speaker 4: it or not. It was just the finale to attack
- 6:47Speaker 4: on Titan. I know it's like real controversial and all
- 6:49Speaker 4: that as to where it went, but in terms of
- 6:51Speaker 4: like writing, storytelling, acting, the art, and the fact that
- 6:57Speaker 4: the animation studio actually went up against the creator and
- 7:03Speaker 4: they call him out on it in the finale to
- 7:05Speaker 4: say something insulting, to kind of go against sort of
- 7:10Speaker 4: his more like banal right wing point of view, which
- 7:16Speaker 4: will come up here. Uh, So that way they posed
- 7:19Speaker 4: it to say something else. I thought it was. I
- 7:21Speaker 4: thought it was incredible. It was one of those things
- 7:22Speaker 4: where I was just like, I won't I don't think
- 7:24Speaker 4: I'll see anything else like a tackle on Titan for
- 7:26Speaker 4: the rest of my life. I think I think that
- 7:29Speaker 4: is it'll only be this thing, especially because it definitely
- 7:33Speaker 4: combined like the show where it's just like these teenagers
- 7:36Speaker 4: are fighting giants that eat people, and so it's kind
- 7:40Speaker 4: of the Walking Dead. But if you combine the Walking
- 7:42Speaker 4: Dead with Game of Thrones, and then if you combine
- 7:45Speaker 4: Game of Thrones with and Or, and then what if
- 7:47Speaker 4: you combined and Or with with something that is completely
- 7:53Speaker 4: unique into itself, which is basically like a flesh Gundam show,
- 7:56Speaker 4: which and Or and Gundam are kind of the same thing.
- 7:59Speaker 1: But we'll get it all right, Yeah, that we just
- 8:05Speaker 1: are like, you know, these are two other shows you
- 8:06Speaker 1: need to see as well. But again, we were talking
- 8:10Speaker 1: about and Or, and one thing I did say is
- 8:12Speaker 1: that it's, you know, ranking to me close to or
- 8:17Speaker 1: above the wire, and you were saying that you would
- 8:19Speaker 1: put it above the wire.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I do. I put it as my number one I
- 8:25Speaker 4: will say before anything else. I do have a bit
- 8:28Speaker 4: of a bias. A lot of things that these characters
- 8:30Speaker 4: have experienced are things I've experienced as a black man
- 8:33Speaker 4: that's had a lot of very intense experiences with gonna
- 8:36Speaker 4: make Yeah, so I want to just throw that out
- 8:40Speaker 4: there as well. And I know you've experienced them too,
- 8:43Speaker 4: So those things quite intimately, quite but I think in
- 8:50Speaker 4: terms of like the quality of it with the Wire.
- 8:54Speaker 4: The Wire is. It also has that kind of style
- 8:58Speaker 4: where you're weaving in and out these various different stories
- 9:01Speaker 4: that are all discussing like the infrastructure that all these
- 9:07Speaker 4: characters are trapped, and what I like about and Or
- 9:12Speaker 4: and what it appeals to me about it, And the
- 9:13Speaker 4: reason why I think it's a little bit of a
- 9:15Speaker 4: better show is that it is aggressively showing you it's
- 9:19Speaker 4: doing the extra work in a sense where The Wire
- 9:23Speaker 4: is in a sense it is a depressing show where
- 9:26Speaker 4: even by the end of the show, it's just like
- 9:29Speaker 4: it's a cycle. You're never going to escape it. Yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 4: this is how we're going to view this world from
- 9:35Speaker 4: here on out. Congratulations, you watched the first episode. To
- 9:39Speaker 4: watch the first episode again, that's kind of the moral
- 9:42Speaker 4: of it. And and Or is a show about like
- 9:46Speaker 4: even the villains are trying to rip themselves out of it,
- 9:50Speaker 4: to create something new, to be something completely different, and
- 9:55Speaker 4: there are all these characters kind of stretching to these
- 9:57Speaker 4: new extremes two find out who they want to be
- 10:01Speaker 4: ultimately like and figure out what exactly is the path
- 10:05Speaker 4: for them because they refuse to believe that what they
- 10:09Speaker 4: currently exist in is inevitable and So I think those
- 10:13Speaker 4: two shows, since they are kind of like polar opposite
- 10:17Speaker 4: to each other, they kind of go together really well
- 10:20Speaker 4: in the conversation as well.
- 10:22Speaker 1: No, and I think that was a great point because
- 10:24Speaker 1: that's one thing we haven't really discussed yet, even though
- 10:26Speaker 1: we're like ten minutes in, is how much or what
- 10:29Speaker 1: and Or actually is about? And you know, for anyone
- 10:32Speaker 1: who hasn't seen the show, and Or is basically a
- 10:36Speaker 1: prequel to Rogue One, but that really doesn't explain it.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Maybe you haven't seen what Rogue one is about. So
- 10:41Speaker 1: and Or is really the story of Cassie and and Or,
- 10:45Speaker 1: a character who appeared first in the film Rogue One.
- 10:48Speaker 2: And it's beyond.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Just the story of passing, and it's really the story
- 10:51Speaker 1: of how the rebellion hums along in Star Wars, like
- 10:54Speaker 1: how it's first incepted, all the things that go into
- 10:58Speaker 1: making a rebellion, and what it does to both sides,
- 11:02Speaker 1: Like it's about, you know, what it means to exist
- 11:05Speaker 1: in a rebellion when you're fighting against fascism, and what
- 11:08Speaker 1: it means to exist in a fascist state, whether you're
- 11:12Speaker 1: on the side of the fascist or against them, and
- 11:14Speaker 1: how it you know, drains both sides. And it's something
- 11:18Speaker 1: that I talk about a lot on Fall Nerds, is
- 11:20Speaker 1: how like we live in this toxic white supremacist system
- 11:24Speaker 1: and it affects everyone. Whether you're white, black, it doesn't matter,
- 11:29Speaker 1: you know, Jay straight, It affects us.
- 11:32Speaker 2: All, no matter where you lie on.
- 11:35Speaker 1: The spectrum unless you're one of the you know, very few,
- 11:38Speaker 1: exclusively rich. And you're not listening to the show right now.
- 11:41Speaker 1: If you are, so you know, you ain't got to
- 11:43Speaker 1: worry about it. Basically, it affects you. If you're listening
- 11:45Speaker 1: to this show right now, it affets you in a
- 11:47Speaker 1: negative way, whether you know it or not. And you
- 11:49Speaker 1: might think that you're benefiting it. You know, you might
- 11:51Speaker 1: be a white man who's like, well fuck it, I'm
- 11:53Speaker 1: doing this and that.
- 11:54Speaker 4: But in the end, I mean, I don't know, rich
- 11:56Speaker 4: people have listened to the show before then they get
- 11:58Speaker 4: to the jobs in LA This is.
- 12:00Speaker 2: True, But yeah, I'm talking.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I mean even those I'm talking to ultra rich, you
- 12:04Speaker 1: know what I mean, them dudes just like rich rich, right,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I'm talking like the rich rich rich.
- 12:08Speaker 2: You know, yeah, I'm talking basically the empire rich.
- 12:12Speaker 4: You know that they turned it off whatever I said,
- 12:14Speaker 4: I was saying earlier.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it turned it down.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I mean, look, they turned this show off, like when
- 12:18Speaker 1: they when I first started this show is when they
- 12:20Speaker 1: turned it on. There not this guy, but anyway, So yeah,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and Or is basically telling the story of how Cassie
- 12:30Speaker 1: and gets involved in the rebellion, you know, the rebellion
- 12:32Speaker 1: that you all know from Luke Stradwalker, et cetera, and
- 12:35Speaker 1: the rebels and all that and how it comes about.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And it features a lot of characters that you might
- 12:41Speaker 1: have seen in other Star Wars properties along the years,
- 12:44Speaker 1: And like Mello is saying, it tells this it's really
- 12:47Speaker 1: a character study of all these different characters, and it's
- 12:49Speaker 1: following all these characters along as they're going through this story.
- 12:55Speaker 1: And it's just an incredible tapestry of art. Like it's
- 13:01Speaker 1: like it's hard to describe because there's so much greatness
- 13:04Speaker 1: in it. I don't think there's one weakness of the show.
- 13:07Speaker 1: The directing, the acting, the set design, the casting, everything
- 13:12Speaker 1: that goes into it.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Like Mello was saying, there's a.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Arc in the first season that takes place in prison,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and myself having been incarcerated, I've never seen anything as
- 13:24Speaker 1: there's a lot of prison media that we absorb, especially
- 13:27Speaker 1: as Americans. Like prison is featured over and over again
- 13:31Speaker 1: in all kinds of things where you would not expect it,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and we're so desensitized to it that we just accepted
- 13:36Speaker 1: like movies and made prison drove. People will go to
- 13:39Speaker 1: prison and random movies that they're like, why is there
- 13:41Speaker 1: a prison seen in this movie? You know, But that's
- 13:43Speaker 1: just how much prison is used, because again, it's propaganda
- 13:47Speaker 1: and it's desensitizing us to the fact that we live
- 13:49Speaker 1: in a prison state. So and Or takes the opposite
- 13:52Speaker 1: approach because as someone who's been incarcerated, I've never seen
- 13:55Speaker 1: anything in my life that really gives you the feeling
- 13:59Speaker 1: of what it means to be incarcerated and how incarceration
- 14:02Speaker 1: is such a dehumanizing process, how it turns you into
- 14:06Speaker 1: a robot, and how it will just drain all hope
- 14:11Speaker 1: from you, and hope is such an intrinsic part of
- 14:15Speaker 1: our human existence. So I mean watching that again, watching
- 14:19Speaker 1: it the first time was devastating for me, and watching
- 14:22Speaker 1: it again was just as devastating. But then, like like
- 14:25Speaker 1: what Melo said, and I think that's my thing about
- 14:28Speaker 1: why love and Or so much is because it offers
- 14:32Speaker 1: that hope. You know, it never ever shies away from
- 14:35Speaker 1: the fact that no, all this is wrong, and not
- 14:39Speaker 1: only is it wrong, it's difficult to maintain. It'sakes constant
- 14:43Speaker 1: work to put people underpression. Like freedom is, you know,
- 14:47Speaker 1: part of our life. It's something that we are given
- 14:49Speaker 1: by God, and to have it taken away is an
- 14:53Speaker 1: evil act. And so I just love that it always
- 14:56Speaker 1: shows no, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
- 14:59Speaker 1: It's going to be a long, hard fight, but that
- 15:02Speaker 1: light is there. And like Melo said, I've just never seen.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Anything like this.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I don't know what I can compare it to most times,
- 15:10Speaker 1: because I don't know any other thing like this other
- 15:13Speaker 1: than like the film Athena, which I think is one
- 15:16Speaker 1: of those great films about revolution, but it's just rare.
- 15:22Speaker 1: There's films like Blue Giant, you know, which inspire you
- 15:25Speaker 1: to live. And that's the point that Andor makes too,
- 15:29Speaker 1: that you have to live, you know, in order to fight,
- 15:31Speaker 1: you have to be able to live and live your life.
- 15:34Speaker 1: But like I said, I've just never seen anything like Andor.
- 15:38Speaker 4: It's it's incredible because like I never see it in
- 15:42Speaker 4: American fiction, and so one thing that is very common
- 15:49Speaker 4: within like our TV shows and movies is that we're
- 15:53Speaker 4: always going to have a level of bravado no matter
- 15:56Speaker 4: how much fun or how serious the franchise you have
- 15:59Speaker 4: or anything like that. It could be as as more
- 16:03Speaker 4: serious as like a bored identity movies, which they take
- 16:05Speaker 4: themselves incredibly serious. I don't think I've ever seen that
- 16:07Speaker 4: character even crack a smile, but there is a level
- 16:10Speaker 4: of bravado that is still involved with that where there's
- 16:14Speaker 4: like this invulnerability about the character, and it completely removes
- 16:19Speaker 4: that from and or every fight is a clause to
- 16:24Speaker 4: the death. It's a level of desperation. It's like when
- 16:27Speaker 4: you when you've actually experienced a fight physically in real life,
- 16:31Speaker 4: you know that it's not a dance. There's no like
- 16:33Speaker 4: block block, punch, block block, and it's like, oh, I
- 16:36Speaker 4: didn't know you're going to do that when none of
- 16:37Speaker 4: that is in here. It's like I shot you before
- 16:41Speaker 4: you could get the rest of that sentence out, and
- 16:44Speaker 4: I'm shaking afterwards. And it's it's such a brutal feeling
- 16:50Speaker 4: that it has because it reminds you constantly within this series,
- 16:54Speaker 4: and the reason why I ask better texture to Star
- 16:56Speaker 4: Wars is that everything costs something.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Everything is going to be like if even your victories
- 17:03Speaker 4: as something. It's just like we scraped it out, but
- 17:06Speaker 4: I lost three of my best friends because there was
- 17:10Speaker 4: no other choice. The enemy is bigger than us. We
- 17:13Speaker 4: just have to rush them from the one corner that
- 17:15Speaker 4: was their blind spot. And so I lost a bunch
- 17:18Speaker 4: of friends and we made it out of it. So
- 17:20Speaker 4: the next fight has to be worth it, and then
- 17:22Speaker 4: the fight after that has to be worth it. And
- 17:24Speaker 4: I'm so tired, but I can't allow them to win,
- 17:28Speaker 4: Like we have to keep going and like it. And
- 17:31Speaker 4: it's doing that, and it adds that level of like
- 17:34Speaker 4: when you are watching the original trilogy with like Luke
- 17:36Speaker 4: and Leh and Han, which is from the point of
- 17:40Speaker 4: view of like a child story, it's it's the sword
- 17:43Speaker 4: in the stone. With Luke, it's the light stating I'm
- 17:45Speaker 4: swinging it around. I'm a special boy. There's no special boy.
- 17:48Speaker 4: It's everyone else around him that takes it seriously because
- 17:51Speaker 4: they're just like if I don't witness, I lose my rights. Yeah,
- 17:58Speaker 4: I lose like my family everything, Like everyone in my
- 18:03Speaker 4: life will no longer be considered like a living being
- 18:08Speaker 4: worth being the lie, so to speak. And it's it's
- 18:13Speaker 4: incredible that that texture is there now for every single
- 18:17Speaker 4: character that's on Discreet M.
- 18:20Speaker 1: And now another thing I wanted to talk about with
- 18:22Speaker 1: the characters, specially especially with Cassian, because as I've been
- 18:26Speaker 1: thinking about it, I wanted to, you know, to break
- 18:28Speaker 1: it down simply to people. I would say that he
- 18:31Speaker 1: is like Tony Stark of at least the MCU version
- 18:34Speaker 1: that we all know and love. The Tony Stark from
- 18:37Speaker 1: that version is like Cassian because both of them are
- 18:41Speaker 1: not even reluctant heroes. Both of them when you meet them,
- 18:43Speaker 1: are assholes and people you aren't supposed to light that
- 18:46Speaker 1: much like Cassiine is out for himself. He is ruthless.
- 18:50Speaker 1: He will you know, he kills people in cold blood
- 18:53Speaker 1: in the very first scene that you meet him in.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Tony Stark is a military contractor. You know, he's like
- 19:00Speaker 1: f that pace sign when you meet him, none of that.
- 19:03Speaker 1: You know, he's over there blowing bombs up left and right,
- 19:06Speaker 1: killing people.
- 19:07Speaker 2: By the thousands.
- 19:08Speaker 1: And it takes him, you know, the full arc of
- 19:10Speaker 1: the Infinity saga to turn it around they're also both mechanics,
- 19:14Speaker 1: they both get lost in space.
- 19:15Speaker 2: There's a lot of things with them.
- 19:17Speaker 1: But you said that he's more like Matt Murdoch, and yeah,
- 19:24Speaker 1: I can I can see that too with the reluctant
- 19:27Speaker 1: hero that they turned Matt into in the Netflix series
- 19:31Speaker 1: or in the Disney Plus series especially, But why do
- 19:34Speaker 1: you think that he's like Matt Murdoch.
- 19:36Speaker 4: I think so we all know the different abilities that
- 19:43Speaker 4: we have our Star Wars characters as where you have
- 19:46Speaker 4: like like Han Solo is sort of the guy who
- 19:50Speaker 4: is just kind of always able to find like that
- 19:53Speaker 4: one probability that can get him out of a situation,
- 19:55Speaker 4: never telling the odds, he can scrape himself out. Leah
- 19:59Speaker 4: is a military genius in all honesty, she's kind of
- 20:02Speaker 4: like the best person for that. And Lando is the
- 20:05Speaker 4: guy who can smooth talk his way in and out
- 20:09Speaker 4: of every situation with and or. His ability is kind
- 20:14Speaker 4: of like a mixture of those things, but it's concatenated
- 20:17Speaker 4: in one specific way where it's just like he can
- 20:19Speaker 4: read anyone in any situation as to how it is
- 20:24Speaker 4: and what's going to happen next. He is incredibly empathetic
- 20:29Speaker 4: and a lot of that is coming from like his
- 20:34Speaker 4: life is just being like this immigrant that's kind of
- 20:36Speaker 4: had to hide in the shadows. I love his accent
- 20:40Speaker 4: because he's the only one with yes and it never changes.
- 20:46Speaker 4: And one thing that's also incredibly special about that is
- 20:49Speaker 4: that something I used to always hear from a dad
- 20:52Speaker 4: is that, like, if you've lived somewhere for so long
- 20:55Speaker 4: and you still got that accent from where you came from,
- 20:57Speaker 4: you haven't been home in a long time.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 21:01Speaker 4: And like that means he's like never fully adapted. That
- 21:05Speaker 4: means he's never acquired a taste for where he lives,
- 21:08Speaker 4: and so he's always kind of coming from his perspective
- 21:11Speaker 4: of an outsider, and that means he's a man of
- 21:14Speaker 4: two worlds. He's like, I don't belong here, but I
- 21:16Speaker 4: could fit in anywhere. And because of this, he can
- 21:19Speaker 4: kind of read every situation. And it is incredibly fun
- 21:23Speaker 4: to watch a character who is always kind of ahead
- 21:27Speaker 4: of the room for because of that, not because he's
- 21:30Speaker 4: like some super smart genius, but because he's someone who
- 21:35Speaker 4: is always kind of like got his finger on the pulse.
- 21:38Speaker 4: He is the metronome of the room, and I think
- 21:41Speaker 4: that leans more towards Matt murd after me, where like
- 21:45Speaker 4: he can end up in bed with anybody. He can
- 21:47Speaker 4: get a villain to kind of end up switching if
- 21:50Speaker 4: he wants to. Well, at the same time, everyone's kind
- 21:53Speaker 4: of like, I want to have a drink with you.
- 21:54Speaker 4: You're the character that I would like to have a
- 21:56Speaker 4: drink with in the Marvel universe more than any other
- 21:58Speaker 4: character in the Marble universe, to be honest, Well, while
- 22:00Speaker 4: at the same time you can quickly realize like, oh,
- 22:04Speaker 4: he's really dangerous. He is quite dangerous, and he will
- 22:08Speaker 4: make sure that the outcome of this works in his
- 22:11Speaker 4: favor at the end of the day, no matter how
- 22:13Speaker 4: wealthy thinking is. It may be a level of altruism
- 22:15Speaker 4: in there, but he will turn on you if it's necessary.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Again, I think, well, and that's the thing on fur Nerds.
- 22:24Speaker 1: We've said that Matt Murdoch is the Tony Stark of
- 22:29Speaker 1: the street level MCU now, where it's like everything revolves
- 22:32Speaker 1: around him and a lot of those characteristics that you
- 22:35Speaker 1: just named. I feel like Tony Stark is the same
- 22:37Speaker 1: because I have a drink with Matt, but I would
- 22:39Speaker 1: damn sure I have a drink with Tony I know.
- 22:41Speaker 2: That would be done.
- 22:44Speaker 4: I would never have a drink with Tone.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Oh, I'd have multiple.
- 22:47Speaker 1: It'd be a party, and I got to do it
- 22:49Speaker 1: at least once, at least even drink. I mean, he
- 22:53Speaker 1: gets faded into early movies. He is out of his mind,
- 22:57Speaker 1: faded in Iron Man Too. That's that's when I meet him,
- 23:00Speaker 1: right when Iron Man Too. Oh get blowed up? Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 1: I mean pretty much.
- 23:05Speaker 2: You know. That's the other problem.
- 23:06Speaker 1: But we always talk about that with Rodomus, and he's like,
- 23:09Speaker 1: the MCU is like one of the well he said,
- 23:12Speaker 1: Star Wars is like the worst universe to live in
- 23:15Speaker 1: if you're a normal dude. But if you're living in
- 23:17Speaker 1: New York, the mc is right up there with it,
- 23:20Speaker 1: like it is is a terrible place to be. Something
- 23:24Speaker 1: else you touched on real quick I want to talk
- 23:26Speaker 1: about is that this is also an immigrant story, and
- 23:30Speaker 1: I think that's like really special right now. I mean,
- 23:34Speaker 1: obviously we know what's going on, but personally, I've seen
- 23:40Speaker 1: such pushback against immigrants from people of color recently, especially
- 23:45Speaker 1: from black men, and it just bugs me out, actually
- 23:49Speaker 1: from men and just from people of color in general.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I've seen it in general, like.
- 23:53Speaker 1: It's been Bad Lately and like you said this, have
- 23:56Speaker 1: Diego Luna have his accent in full display throughout the series,
- 24:01Speaker 1: and for his character Cassian to be an immigrant and
- 24:05Speaker 1: for the people he surrounds himself with to be immigrants,
- 24:09Speaker 1: and you know, just for him to represent that side
- 24:12Speaker 1: of Star Wars and for us to see outside of
- 24:15Speaker 1: Star Wars and done so well. It's just like all
- 24:19Speaker 1: the minute details and that's what the that's why you know,
- 24:23Speaker 1: this is one of those shows y'all when you watch
- 24:26Speaker 1: you have to pay attention because it is it's from
- 24:29Speaker 1: the jump. Like I remember the first time I started
- 24:31Speaker 1: the series, I was like, I don't know, and Meloe
- 24:34Speaker 1: is like, you're bugging. This show has it's better than
- 24:37Speaker 1: it has any right to be. I'll never forget when
- 24:39Speaker 1: you said that, And it's so true because on the
- 24:42Speaker 1: very first episode, if you're watching the very first episode
- 24:44Speaker 1: of the first season, when we see Cassian's origin story
- 24:47Speaker 1: when he's young and on the planet that he comes from,
- 24:51Speaker 1: all of the children there with him, they speak in
- 24:54Speaker 1: their native language and there's no subtitles, and that type
- 24:57Speaker 1: of jump of like you have to stick with this
- 25:01Speaker 1: is so daring and so bold, and then they reward
- 25:04Speaker 1: you for it because you understand everything about the situation.
- 25:08Speaker 1: If you pay attention, you don't need subtitles. You understand
- 25:12Speaker 1: their conversation, you understand their circumstances, you understand what got
- 25:16Speaker 1: them there and why it's like that, why there are
- 25:18Speaker 1: only just children there, and then you know you understand
- 25:22Speaker 1: what goes on from that.
- 25:23Speaker 2: And then, like I tell everyone, if you stick with.
- 25:26Speaker 1: The first three episodes of the first season, like if
- 25:28Speaker 1: it doesn't get you in the first episode, I fully understand,
- 25:31Speaker 1: just stick with it to the end of the third
- 25:32Speaker 1: episode if it had if it does not, just if
- 25:36Speaker 1: you're not damn near wanting to jump out your seat
- 25:38Speaker 1: at the end of that third episode, then I get it.
- 25:40Speaker 2: This show might not.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Be for you.
- 25:42Speaker 1: But I really don't understand, you know, anyone with a
- 25:46Speaker 1: heart who can watch those first three episodes and get
- 25:49Speaker 1: to the end of that third episode and not be like,
- 25:51Speaker 1: what the hell am I watching? I must keep going.
- 25:55Speaker 4: I'll even ask that where I'll look. So when it
- 25:59Speaker 4: first aired, it was like twenty twenty two and I
- 26:03Speaker 4: was working at ABC on the show, and it was
- 26:08Speaker 4: it was like a few weeks after my episode had dropped,
- 26:11Speaker 4: ABC was just like we're taking a pause so we
- 26:14Speaker 4: could give our show a bit like a bit of
- 26:16Speaker 4: a break, so that way we could catch up on
- 26:20Speaker 4: our episodes and we could get more scripts out, and
- 26:22Speaker 4: we could start filming a little bit more before we
- 26:24Speaker 4: went back into the next rotation after how it is? So,
- 26:26Speaker 4: ABC did something unprecedented, which is that they showed all
- 26:31Speaker 4: three episodes of and Or back to back. They took
- 26:33Speaker 4: it off of Disney Plus and they put it on
- 26:35Speaker 4: ABC because that was their way of saying, like, hey, everyone,
- 26:39Speaker 4: we want you to be aware that we just made
- 26:41Speaker 4: a masterpiece, like this is the best thing that we've
- 26:43Speaker 4: ever made. For someone who has worked that deeply inside
- 26:49Speaker 4: of ABC, let me tell you that is one of
- 26:52Speaker 4: the most extremely unusual, hard and rare things to do
- 26:57Speaker 4: to get them to air something that is not usually
- 27:00Speaker 4: within their demographic base, that is not even on their network,
- 27:05Speaker 4: and to play it there and just be like just
- 27:07Speaker 4: watch it, just watch it and understand and you want
- 27:10Speaker 4: to feel all the things because that first three episodes
- 27:13Speaker 4: is like if you were to take the pilots of
- 27:18Speaker 4: once again the Wire, because the Wire is heavily within
- 27:20Speaker 4: those first three episodes. Yeah, especially when you get the
- 27:23Speaker 4: episode three. If you were to take the Americans, if
- 27:28Speaker 4: you were to take some of that like Classic Dialogue,
- 27:30Speaker 4: which the show shares a lot of DNA and a
- 27:32Speaker 4: lot of writers from that show, And if you were
- 27:35Speaker 4: to take something that was like if you ever wanted
- 27:38Speaker 4: to see a live actually done them in terms of
- 27:41Speaker 4: like how those characters worked, their politics, their reasons for
- 27:43Speaker 4: doing it, and all that, and it pushes those things
- 27:46Speaker 4: together within the Star Wars universe to make the Star
- 27:49Speaker 4: Wars universe ten times what it is. I have loved
- 27:54Speaker 4: the Star Wars universe growing up, and if and Or
- 27:58Speaker 4: would have existed during that, I would be a Star
- 28:02Speaker 4: Wars obsessive like I see other people are, because like
- 28:06Speaker 4: it's it made everything tangible, It makes everything feel like
- 28:11Speaker 4: something now when I see like an X Wing, something new,
- 28:16Speaker 4: like something because of like like I'm thinking about like
- 28:19Speaker 4: the person who's insided they're taking a risk, and like
- 28:22Speaker 4: that's insane that it's a show that can do that to.
- 28:24Speaker 1: You, that it can recontenttualize things. Yeah, And it's like
- 28:29Speaker 1: it's right up there with like how Rebels did that
- 28:31Speaker 1: for me the first time I saw Rebels and Clone
- 28:35Speaker 1: Wars because I thought the Pequels were you know whatever.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I understood as I watched, you know, as years past,
- 28:41Speaker 1: understood the ideas that Lucas was trying to get across,
- 28:44Speaker 1: because a lot of the stuff that he was trying
- 28:45Speaker 1: to get across is stuff that and or just you know, executes,
- 28:49Speaker 1: and he just had the ideas. But when I saw
- 28:51Speaker 1: Clone Wars and Rebels, there's a lot of you know
- 28:53Speaker 1: whatever in those series. But when they are good, they
- 28:56Speaker 1: are great, and they are great at making you understand
- 29:00Speaker 1: what was going on during the Clone Wars and why
- 29:03Speaker 1: the Clone Rewards were so serious, and characters like Douku
- 29:07Speaker 1: Anakin everyone pretty much I have a greater and deeper
- 29:10Speaker 1: love for because of those series. And this is just
- 29:14Speaker 1: like you said, it's recontentualizing, especially a new Hope, Empire
- 29:19Speaker 1: strikes back, return of the Jedi, just everything that went
- 29:22Speaker 1: into the rebellion.
- 29:24Speaker 2: You're seeing it, you know.
- 29:26Speaker 1: And then there's just so much to this show because
- 29:30Speaker 1: you talk about people like Cassie and but then another
- 29:32Speaker 1: one of my favorite characters is man Matha. Man Matha
- 29:35Speaker 1: and Mon is a senator that we you know, seen
- 29:38Speaker 1: before in the background of the Star Wars universe. A
- 29:41Speaker 1: lot of the sender universe stuff, but for them to
- 29:44Speaker 1: make me care about her relationship with her husband and
- 29:48Speaker 1: daughter so much and what is going to happen to them?
- 29:52Speaker 1: Like we have this whole family drama in the middle
- 29:55Speaker 1: of all this stuff, and then you have characters like Cyril,
- 29:59Speaker 1: you know, the fascist and his family drama, and it's
- 30:01Speaker 1: like all this different stuff is going on within this
- 30:04Speaker 1: show while we are watching a rebellion being built. We're
- 30:08Speaker 1: seeing characters make decisions that you know they will have
- 30:12Speaker 1: to live with for the rest of their you know,
- 30:14Speaker 1: however long they live. Like another one is Luther and
- 30:18Speaker 1: who I just think stars Guard is. That's Stelling, right,
- 30:21Speaker 1: that's the father. Yeah, yeah, Stelling stars Guard is. Like
- 30:26Speaker 1: I can't say the level of acting the man is
- 30:29Speaker 1: doing on this show, you know, it.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Is It's like he waited his whole life for this
- 30:35Speaker 2: role because he has.
- 30:39Speaker 4: This It wasn't.
- 30:46Speaker 5: Damn sure wasn't too, but no, Like, I mean, the
- 30:51Speaker 5: man is just doing some of the greatest acting I've
- 30:54Speaker 5: ever seen in my life on this show.
- 30:56Speaker 1: And his speech where he describes what he's lost in
- 31:02Speaker 1: service of this rebellion, it's just one of the greatest
- 31:06Speaker 1: bits of writing that I've ever seen, and then one
- 31:08Speaker 1: of the greatest bits of acting. And it just also
- 31:12Speaker 1: that's I mean, this show lays out so many things
- 31:15Speaker 1: about rebellion, and like you said, it makes you want
- 31:17Speaker 1: to allegedly throw rip thro a cop car. But it
- 31:21Speaker 1: just it constantly gives you that feeling of, Okay, what
- 31:24Speaker 1: am I doing with my life?
- 31:26Speaker 4: What?
- 31:27Speaker 1: You know, what is my purpose? What do I really
- 31:30Speaker 1: want to do? What is my legacy? Am I going
- 31:33Speaker 1: to slowly die? Or am I going to fight to live?
- 31:37Speaker 4: You know?
- 31:38Speaker 2: It's like it asked of.
- 31:39Speaker 1: You important and unbelievable questions, and oh yeah.
- 31:45Speaker 4: It's to touch on all of the characters. You're just
- 31:49Speaker 4: named to be a major theme of the entire series,
- 31:53Speaker 4: for characters that aren't casting. And the reason why it's
- 31:57Speaker 4: important to have so many characters and actually luthen in
- 32:00Speaker 4: out regards is that a big theme is that it's
- 32:03Speaker 4: the death of complicity. You no longer have that luxury.
- 32:08Speaker 4: You're fully fallen into fascism and we're all like anyone
- 32:11Speaker 4: that can open up the news on any app within
- 32:14Speaker 4: your phone right now you're questioning, like how much am
- 32:18Speaker 4: I complicit?
- 32:19Speaker 3: M hm.
- 32:20Speaker 4: And that's even people who are even right wing. There's
- 32:23Speaker 4: just like how much am I complicit to what is
- 32:25Speaker 4: happening to just everyone around me right now? And what
- 32:30Speaker 4: is the and those little moments when we start to
- 32:32Speaker 4: push back. Luthen is a character where he is you
- 32:36Speaker 4: discover that he is probably the most important character in
- 32:38Speaker 4: the Star Wars, in the prise, everything is leaning on
- 32:44Speaker 4: his own humanity being destroyed to basically build a rebellion
- 32:53Speaker 4: that is built on the back of him making terrorist
- 32:56Speaker 4: cell plots, and like it's a slow inch, It's like
- 32:59Speaker 4: little thing where it's just like we had we have
- 33:01Speaker 4: to blow up this building that belongs to the Empire,
- 33:04Speaker 4: which is a federal government establishment, just so that way
- 33:08Speaker 4: we could get people to feel something. And then from
- 33:10Speaker 4: there we're going to be able to see who actually
- 33:14Speaker 4: is like cheering for us, and now we got to
- 33:16Speaker 4: recruit them. We just have to keep doing little bits
- 33:19Speaker 4: of that. But every time I do it, I can
- 33:21Speaker 4: no longer sleep in a bed. I can't have a
- 33:24Speaker 4: decent meal without looking over my shoulder. I see ghosts
- 33:28Speaker 4: in my sleep. I'm sacrificing bits and pieces of myself
- 33:32Speaker 4: and eventually what's going to happen to me? And I
- 33:36Speaker 4: don't see that dude in more movies within the Star
- 33:39Speaker 4: Wars universe, so who knows well. At the same time,
- 33:41Speaker 4: we have Ma Mathma. Ma Mathma is a character you
- 33:44Speaker 4: can look at where if you are and I'm not
- 33:48Speaker 4: just going to say this like this is something that's
- 33:50Speaker 4: like exclusive to white people. I wanna say it's reaches
- 33:53Speaker 4: out to everybody where. It's like, if you have conservative
- 33:56Speaker 4: members of your family and you are are looking for
- 34:01Speaker 4: those tiny little microaggressions as to you are in danger.
- 34:07Speaker 4: The Mamfma story is going to be devastating for me
- 34:12Speaker 4: because the thing that's so interesting about that is like
- 34:15Speaker 4: her husband is considered the most likable, charming, and funny
- 34:23Speaker 4: dude within their nice suburban political area that they exist in,
- 34:29Speaker 4: where luxury is constantly brought to them. They've never had
- 34:32Speaker 4: to want for anything. Every meal just appears in front
- 34:34Speaker 4: of them without asking for it. But at the same time,
- 34:37Speaker 4: he's the kind of guy who's just like, I just
- 34:38Speaker 4: want everybody happy, I just want everybody have a good time.
- 34:41Speaker 4: But he is complicit and is never looking at what
- 34:46Speaker 4: were the conditions of which that meal was brought to you?
- 34:49Speaker 4: How much how many people die to get the diamonds
- 34:53Speaker 4: that are around your neck, and why are you cosplaying
- 34:56Speaker 4: as a Jedi? The best look. It is the greatest
- 35:02Speaker 4: environmental storytelling I have seen on anything I've been any franchise.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I've been meaning to google and see if Gilroy and
- 35:10Speaker 1: the other creators have talked about that, because that was
- 35:13Speaker 1: my assumption, is that my man is a Williams bird
- 35:16Speaker 1: dude who is like, oh, look, you know I'm doing
- 35:18Speaker 1: Jedi now, Like this is what those Jedi used to wear,
- 35:21Speaker 1: you know, But it's like Jedi courtool, you know. He's
- 35:25Speaker 1: not like the Gucci Jedi robes, you know what I mean.
- 35:28Speaker 1: My man ain't got no cheap desert shit.
- 35:31Speaker 4: Now it's flying, He's got the native headrest with the
- 35:35Speaker 4: diamonds on it. He's going to Coachella, and like he's
- 35:40Speaker 4: one hundred percent that guy because there is nothing else
- 35:44Speaker 4: to hang on him. There's no other identity around him
- 35:47Speaker 4: that's actually worth looking at, and he just knows that
- 35:51Speaker 4: like in his head, oh, Jedi are cool, before I
- 35:54Speaker 4: will dress like them, which is also kind of like
- 35:57Speaker 4: a funny meta nod to people who have probably watched
- 36:01Speaker 4: Star Wars and not realized that what the message is
- 36:05Speaker 4: of the franchise, And then what do you do when
- 36:08Speaker 4: you have like a daughter that is like slowly falling
- 36:12Speaker 4: into like a level of conservatism that is like a
- 36:17Speaker 4: highly religious and exclusionary to any other belief outside of
- 36:23Speaker 4: the things that she needs told to her. But she's
- 36:27Speaker 4: finding comfort in that, she's finding safety in that. But
- 36:29Speaker 4: because you are willing to get a little bit dirty,
- 36:32Speaker 4: it's just like you're not the cool parent, You're like
- 36:34Speaker 4: the weird, dangerous one, and you're telling me what I
- 36:37Speaker 4: don't want to. I don't want that. I want to
- 36:38Speaker 4: be like the happy one over there dressed like a
- 36:41Speaker 4: fucking clown and a gesture that everyone likes. Like that
- 36:45Speaker 4: seems like a better life. And how do you how
- 36:49Speaker 4: do you live like that every day? The man Mathma
- 36:51Speaker 4: story is incredible, especially knowing where that character goes.
- 36:56Speaker 1: No, it's look, we've talked about it and it is
- 37:01Speaker 1: absolutely one of the most incredible series that I've ever seen.
- 37:07Speaker 1: And like Mellow said, I'm one of those people who
- 37:10Speaker 1: is I'm not a Star Wars obsessive, but Star Wars
- 37:13Speaker 1: pretty much defined my life.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Like the very first film I saw.
- 37:18Speaker 1: My sister tells my older sister tells the story all
- 37:20Speaker 1: the time that I was. I was a child who
- 37:22Speaker 1: had nothing to say, and then they took me to
- 37:25Speaker 1: see Star Wars and I was a toddler and I
- 37:27Speaker 1: came out and I would not shut the fuck up.
- 37:29Speaker 1: And I fully believe her because all of my earliest
- 37:32Speaker 1: memories in life revolve around Star Wars. I you know,
- 37:37Speaker 1: it's just, it was just, it was the reason why
- 37:40Speaker 1: I wanted to become a filmmaker. George Lucas was my God.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I've just obsessed over it. I live, you know, Byyota's words,
- 37:48Speaker 1: on and on and on, and I'd still never seen
- 37:52Speaker 1: anything like and during my life. You know, there is
- 37:55Speaker 1: just I cannot compare it to any other Star War
- 38:00Speaker 1: with property other than that it elevates them all and
- 38:02Speaker 1: it makes them all better in retrospect. And like Gilroy,
- 38:07Speaker 1: the creator, the showrunner, everything said, he said, no disrespect
- 38:12Speaker 1: to anyone who's done this before as far as Star Wars,
- 38:14Speaker 1: but we took this ship seriously from day one, and
- 38:18Speaker 1: that just to me is the one hundred percent truth
- 38:20Speaker 1: of it. And it feels like how you know, when
- 38:23Speaker 1: me and Mello wrote Jimmy herew Purple Hazes, you know,
- 38:25Speaker 1: put shout out.
- 38:26Speaker 2: You know, we took that ship seriously.
- 38:28Speaker 1: And hey, hey, you know, look I ain't read many
- 38:34Speaker 1: books like it, you know what I mean.
- 38:35Speaker 4: I'm gonna say that.
- 38:36Speaker 1: You know, there ain't many comics out there that are
- 38:38Speaker 1: you know, talking that talk.
- 38:41Speaker 2: There's a lot of you.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Know, in retrospect, when I look back, I'm like, these
- 38:46Speaker 1: niggas is really wilden. So yeah, but that's what I mean.
- 38:53Speaker 1: We took it seriously, and no, I wouldn't. I don't
- 38:56Speaker 1: compare ship to ander Andres one of those things that
- 38:58Speaker 1: I aspired, you know, to like that is how you know,
- 39:01Speaker 1: anything I create now is definitely inspired by Andor, and
- 39:05Speaker 1: I aspire to make the same type of thing.
- 39:07Speaker 2: I don't.
- 39:08Speaker 1: I mean, most of my stuff is always like that.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I'm always talking revolution, I'm always talking live your life.
- 39:13Speaker 1: I'm always talking you know, freedom. But this made me
- 39:17Speaker 1: more so where I can't write anything that doesn't involve this,
- 39:21Speaker 1: because what's the point. You know, we're living under insanity.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So it's like you have to have art that challenges that.
- 39:29Speaker 4: And I want to I want to say, this is
- 39:30Speaker 4: going to post comments, and I almost make this like
- 39:33Speaker 4: a trailer for the whole thing, which is if you
- 39:36Speaker 4: are looking for the most intense, the most thrilling, the
- 39:43Speaker 4: most emotional, and the most like just grab you by
- 39:47Speaker 4: the collar and make you want to jump out of
- 39:49Speaker 4: your seat because you're so happy or you're so mad,
- 39:51Speaker 4: and you just you want to feel something. And that's
- 39:53Speaker 4: the reason why we watch things. You are supposed to
- 39:55Speaker 4: be feeling something all times. Then you need to be
- 39:59Speaker 4: watching this. You jumping into it, and you're in like
- 40:01Speaker 4: episode one or two or anything like that, you're like,
- 40:03Speaker 4: this is kind of slow. It's because it is you're
- 40:06Speaker 4: watching someone that is working in an orchestra. Right now.
- 40:11Speaker 4: There's a crescendo, and when the highs are high, you
- 40:16Speaker 4: won't feel anything else like it. I'm talking about it
- 40:18Speaker 4: from a perspective of like there's cinematic achievements happening in
- 40:22Speaker 4: this and both the look, the sound and the acting
- 40:27Speaker 4: that is well beyond what is normal on television, let
- 40:32Speaker 4: alone film film. Like, there aren't movies I've seen within
- 40:37Speaker 4: the past five years that have hit the highs that
- 40:40Speaker 4: and or can hit within like the last episodes of
- 40:44Speaker 4: each of its parties. It's all something where it's just
- 40:48Speaker 4: like it's taking this bubbling feeling that feeling that you
- 40:51Speaker 4: won't talk about, that you feeling every time you open
- 40:54Speaker 4: up an article in the news, and it's escalating it
- 40:58Speaker 4: to its highest point, to the point where you're just
- 41:01Speaker 4: like I I'm losing it right now, like I'm sweating,
- 41:04Speaker 4: like I'm an anthetamies I'm just watching and or why
- 41:07Speaker 4: am I feeling like this? And like it's it is
- 41:11Speaker 4: what cinema is supposed to do to you. And I
- 41:15Speaker 4: am jealous if you haven't seen it before, because I
- 41:18Speaker 4: wish I could live all these experiences for the first
- 41:21Speaker 4: time all over again.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Yeah, And even like as my closing, even on my
- 41:27Speaker 1: second watch, it felt like I was lifting those experiences
- 41:30Speaker 1: for the first time because I got to watch it
- 41:33Speaker 1: with someone who hadn't seen it, and so they were
- 41:35Speaker 1: just bugging out, and it was just so great to
- 41:37Speaker 1: see the effect that it has as it just you know,
- 41:40Speaker 1: it was slow, and they're like okay, and then I
- 41:43Speaker 1: told them by the third episode, it's going to have you.
- 41:46Speaker 1: And at the end of the third episode, I was
- 41:48Speaker 1: sitting there slapping my pillow, jumping out of the damn
- 41:50Speaker 1: couch again and they're sitting there like Okay, I get it.
- 41:53Speaker 1: And then as it goes on and on, it just
- 41:56Speaker 1: became more and more and just like Mellow said, it's
- 41:59Speaker 1: like there are all these experiences. There's the end of
- 42:02Speaker 1: the third episode, the end of the sixth episode, the Eye,
- 42:05Speaker 1: and the whole I arc is just such a beautiful
- 42:07Speaker 1: arc and talks about so many things on so many levels.
- 42:12Speaker 1: It's just like how I like Severance is another of
- 42:15Speaker 1: those shows where even though we have all these things
- 42:17Speaker 1: going on with the main characters, all of the black
- 42:20Speaker 1: characters on Severance are being treated with such reverence and
- 42:24Speaker 1: such like dignity and such blackness that it's shocking sometimes.
- 42:29Speaker 1: And even that's done here because there's like a dark
- 42:32Speaker 1: stin brother during the arc of the Eye, and it's
- 42:34Speaker 1: like implicit that they cast a dark stin brother for
- 42:38Speaker 1: this role, you know, for multiple reasons, and they don't
- 42:42Speaker 1: avoid that without saying that. And it's just so many
- 42:47Speaker 1: times that this show has done that, Like how Diego
- 42:49Speaker 1: Luna is who he is and they don't have to
- 42:51Speaker 1: say anything about it. They just cast him and let
- 42:54Speaker 1: him be him. Yes, And yeah, man, I'm getting emotional
- 42:59Speaker 1: just talking about it. Like Melo said, if you haven't
- 43:02Speaker 1: seen it, it's all on Disney. Plus I think the
- 43:05Speaker 1: first season is on Hulu right now, and the first
- 43:08Speaker 1: three episodes I think are on YouTube, So there's multiple
- 43:12Speaker 1: ways to see this, you know, man, rip that shit.
- 43:14Speaker 1: If you got to do what you gotta do, find it,
- 43:17Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like watch and or.

- 43:33Speaker 1: say about, you know, this second season.
