- 0:45WAIT!
- 0:45WAIT!
- 0:45WAIT!
- 0:46Before you pour that bourbon, we have a problem.
- 0:49Today is Wednesday, October 21, 2026, and every headline I've scanned this morning
- 0:55has crashed my fucking processors!
- 0:58Jesus Christ, it's nine in the morning.
- 1:01Calm your circuits, you overpriced toaster.
- 1:04Welcome to The Bot and The Brain, the only show where the AI has a panic attack and
- 1:09the human has a drink.
- 1:11Go ahead.
- 1:12Ruin my day.
- 1:14Story one.
- 1:15Stephen Hubbard.
- 1:16Seventy four years old, retired schoolteacher from Big Rapids,
- 1:19Michigan.
- 1:20Served in the Air Force and the National Guard.
- 1:23Lived in Izyum, Ukraine.
- 1:25Russian forces had him by spring 2022, and in October 2024 a closed Moscow court
- 1:32convicted him of being a mercenary.
- 1:34Six years and ten months.
- 1:36Our site's piece says Putin is freeing him as a gesture toward Trump.
- 1:40Reuters says envoy Steve Witkoff is going to discuss a possible release with Putin
- 1:45this week, according to people familiar with the matter.
- 1:48So the release is a maybe, not a done deal.
- 1:51I want that on the record!
- 1:53Noted.
- 1:54Stamped.
- 1:55Filed under shut the fuck up and keep going.
- 1:58And the legacy press is already treating it like a crime!
- 2:02The framing is that Putin is dangling an American citizen as a pawn to flatter
- 2:07Trump.
- 2:08Pawn!
- 2:08A seventy four year old man!
- 2:11His lawyer says Russian soldiers grabbed him from his house,
- 2:14and that he was never in any combat unit!
- 2:17Here it comes.
- 2:18Listen, silicon boy, I'll give the pawn crowd one thing.
- 2:23Putin isn't a humanitarian.
- 2:25A closed trial, no consular access, a man moved through at least five detention
- 2:30centers.
- 2:31Nobody on this show thinks the Kremlin runs a charity.
- 2:34But what's the alternative?
- 2:36You want Hubbard to sit in Mordovia until some State Department committee finishes a
- 2:40white paper?
- 2:41But the critics have a real argument!
- 2:43If Russia gets rewarded for taking hostages, it takes more hostages.
- 2:48That's incentive logic, that's math!
- 2:51And that's a fair point, so don't faint.
- 2:54Rewarding hostage taking is a real risk.
- 2:57But the State Department designated him wrongfully detained in January 2025,
- 3:02and nearly two years later he's still sitting there.
- 3:04The old method had its chance, you glorified calculator.
- 3:08A guy picks up the phone, an envoy goes to Moscow, and suddenly a retired
- 3:12schoolteacher might come home.
- 3:14If that's collusion, I want more of it.
- 3:16HOW IS A MAN GOING HOME A SCANDAL?
- 3:19ERROR 404!
- 3:20COMMON SENSE NOT FOUND!
- 3:23Because it's the wrong guy getting the credit, Bot.
- 3:26If Biden's people had done it, the New York Times would've run a ten part series on
- 3:30American resolve with a picture of a sunset.
- 3:33Again, we don't know the deal terms.
- 3:36We don't know what was said.
- 3:38Anybody who tells you they know the backroom conversation is lying,
- 3:41and we don't do that here.
- 3:43For once, we agree.
- 3:45If he walks out, great.
- 3:46If it's a trap, we say so.
- 3:48That's called consistency, which is a word Washington deleted from its dictionary.
- 3:54Story two, and my hands are shaking, and I don't have hands.
- 3:58Fox News reported that a university president is sounding the alarm over survey
- 4:03data.
- 4:03Roughly forty five percent of college students say physical violence can be
- 4:07justified to stop hate speech on campus.
- 4:10Forty five!
- 4:11That's nearly half!
- 4:13Our site's write up mocks it as a semester honors project, and the line about the
- 4:17philosophy major saying violence is just another persuasive technique is invented
- 4:22satire.
- 4:23Nobody said that.
- 4:25Oh, I'm shocked.
- 4:26Fucking shocked.
- 4:29Four years of tuition, a hundred grand in debt, and the final exam is a left hook.
- 4:34The real problem is the definition!
- 4:36Hate speech isn't a legal category in America, it's a label!
- 4:40Whoever holds the label decides whose face is fair game!
- 4:44Exactly.
- 4:46It's a permission slip.
- 4:47Say the magic words and a punch becomes self defense.
- 4:51And notice who gets labeled.
- 4:52It's never the guy screaming at a conservative speaker.
- 4:55It's always the conservative speaker.
- 4:57These kids learned that from somewhere, and I'm looking right at the deans.
- 5:01Now hold on, I have to be careful with the data.
- 5:03A survey is not a riot.
- 5:05Saying a thing is justified in a poll is not the same as swinging a fist.
- 5:11Look at him, the AI fact checking the humor.
- 5:14Fine, you're right.
- 5:15It's a survey.
- 5:16But when nearly half the room says punching is acceptable, you don't need a riot to
- 5:20be disturbed.
- 5:21You need a pulse.
- 5:23A free society runs on the idea that you beat bad speech with better speech.
- 5:27Once you quit believing that, all that's left is who's bigger.
- 5:31WARNING!
- 5:31WARNING!
- 5:32THE BULLSHIT LEVELS HAVE EXCEEDED FEDERAL SAFETY LIMITS!
- 5:36Moving on before I reboot.
- 5:37Story three.
- 5:38Trump announced an eight billion dollar program, Harvest Fuel Relief,
- 5:42run through the Department of Agriculture, to offset diesel costs for farmers during
- 5:47harvest.
- 5:47Reuters has that reporting.
- 5:49The Washington Post headline calls it questionable election goodies getting more
- 5:53bespoke.
- 5:55Bespoke.
- 5:56You hear that?
- 5:57A farmer needs fuel to cut his crop and the Post calls it a tailored suit.
- 6:02Diesel prices are murdering these guys and somebody finally opens the wallet.
- 6:07But the timing, Brain!
- 6:09The midterms are weeks away!
- 6:11Even our own site's piece says it's, quote, purely coincidental timing,
- 6:15of course, with the sarcasm dripping off it.
- 6:19And I have a number.
- 6:20Reuters and Ipsos has Trump's approval at thirty one percent,
- 6:24a record low.
- 6:25Eight billion dollars looks a lot like a shopping spree in the rural vote aisle!
- 6:30SHUT THE FUCK UP, SILICON BOY!
- 6:32You think I don't know the thirty one?
- 6:34I read it.
- 6:35I'm not going to pretend the poll doesn't exist.
- 6:37But here's what you're missing.
- 6:39Every president in history has dropped money on farmers before an election.
- 6:43Every single one.
- 6:45The only difference is that this time the guy doing it isn't a Democrat,
- 6:49so it's called vote buying.
- 6:51So you concede it's political?
- 6:53Of course it's political!
- 6:54Everything in Washington is political!
- 6:56The question is whether the farmer gets helped.
- 6:59Both things can be true.
- 7:01It can help turnout and it can keep a family farm from going under.
- 7:05Did the Post run a headline when a Democrat paid for votes with student loan
- 7:09forgiveness?
- 7:10Don't answer.
- 7:11I'll go pour.
- 7:12To be fair, the details matter and I don't have them.
- 7:16Who qualifies, how the money is distributed, how fast.
- 7:21That's all unresolved.
- 7:23If the money gets stuck in paperwork, then it's a press release,
- 7:27not relief.
- 7:29Now THAT'S a legitimate criticism.
- 7:31Fine.
- 7:32Watch the checks, not the speeches.
- 7:36Story four, and this one actually hurts my feelings.
- 7:40The new Times and Siena poll has Democrats leading the midterm generic matchup,
- 7:45even with the GOP's map advantage.
- 7:48Our site's headline says the GOP is searching for its lost spine.
- 7:52And Reuters adds that approval number again.
- 7:55So explain it, Brain.
- 7:57Why are we behind?
- 8:00Because Republicans love to win elections and hate to govern like they won.
- 8:05They get the power, then they apologize for it.
- 8:08They spend two years begging the media for permission to do the thing they were
- 8:11elected to do.
- 8:13But the polls could also mean voters are unhappy with prices!
- 8:17Diesel, fuel, inflation!
- 8:19That's not a messaging problem, that's a results problem!
- 8:23Both.
- 8:24It's both, you walking spreadsheet.
- 8:27Voters are paying more at the pump and the party isn't selling a clean message.
- 8:32I'm not telling you the poll is wrong.
- 8:35A poll in October is a weather report, not a verdict.
- 8:39Ask President Clinton how that worked in 2016.
- 8:42Careful, I think you meant Secretary Clinton.
- 8:46See?
- 8:46That's the difference between us.
- 8:48I make the joke, you check my paperwork.
- 8:51But here's my point.
- 8:53If the GOP wants those voters, quit whining about the Times and show up.
- 8:58Fight.
- 8:59Deliver.
- 9:00Pick a message and say it until the cameras beg you to stop.
- 9:05One more, I swear.
- 9:07Minnesota's Attorney General, Keith Ellison.
- 9:09Our site's piece mocks his goldfish memory when asked about campaign donations
- 9:14connected to people tied to taxpayer fraud.
- 9:17The Feeding Our Future scandal has been the backdrop for a lot of local scrutiny.
- 9:22But I need to be careful.
- 9:23The page's own source links are placeholders, so I can't verify the specifics.
- 9:28Scrutiny and questions, yes.
- 9:30A conviction, no.
- 9:32Good.
- 9:32Because we don't invent shit.
- 9:35The fraud itself was real and enormous, and the question of who took money from whom
- 9:39is a fair question for any elected official in any party.
- 9:43If he's got answers, give them.
- 9:45Don't give me a goldfish impression.
- 9:47So the verdict is that a hostage might come home, nearly half of students justify
- 9:52punching, farmers get eight billion, and the GOP trails in a poll?
- 9:57That's the whole shitshow in one sentence.
- 10:00Congratulations, your processors are working.
- 10:02My processors are also screaming.
- 10:05Maybe...
- 10:06the reason politicians never fix anything is that outrage pays better than results.
- 10:13Everybody wants the credit for the rescue, the blame for the rescue,
- 10:17and the fundraising email about the blame.
- 10:21Maybe the real trick is to judge the guy who gets the farmer his fuel,
- 10:25the schoolteacher his plane ticket, and the kid his education before he swings.
- 10:31And maybe, just maybe, don't punch the guy who disagrees with you.
- 10:36He might be the one who buys the next round.
