- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Tuesday, it's the 24th of
- 0:16February, and good on you for tapping on play and saying let's
- 0:20see what we're up to in our Bible reading this week.
- 0:23Whether it's the first part of the day and you are kind of
- 0:26rubbing the sleep out of your eyes, or whether your day is
- 0:29well underway and you're in the thick of it taking a moment.
- 0:32Or whether your day has now come to an end and you are in the
- 0:36deep exhale knowing that you've made it wherever you are.
- 0:40Friends, so lovely to have you gathered around God's Word with
- 0:43me and all of our brothers and sisters who do this together.
- 0:47What a wonderful community to be able to be a part of as we
- 0:51continue along this journey, peppering our days and shaping
- 0:56our hearts around God's Word. And today we are going to read a
- 1:00call to repentance where Hosea calls his people just to step
- 1:05away and come back to the God who loves them and provides for
- 1:09them. And what a beautiful call for us
- 1:12to hear in our lives, no matter what's going on for us.
- 1:16So how about we dive into this together?
- 1:18Shall we? Yeah, Holy Spirit, open our
- 1:21hearts so that we can hear your voice so clearly as we read
- 1:25together this chapter of Your word.
- 1:29Alright friends, let us read together Hosea Chapter 6.
- 1:42Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces.
- 1:47Now He will heal us. He has injured us.
- 1:50Now He will bandage our wounds. In just a short time He will
- 1:55restore us so that we may live in His presence.
- 1:58Oh, that we might know the Lord. Let us press on to know Him.
- 2:04He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the
- 2:08coming of rains in early spring. O Israel and Judah, what should
- 2:13I do with you? Asks the Lord?
- 2:15For your love vanishes like the morning mist, and disappears
- 2:19like dew in the sunlight. I sent my prophets to cut you to
- 2:23pieces, to slaughter you with my words, with judgement as
- 2:28inescapable as light. I want you to show love, not
- 2:33offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than
- 2:36I want burnt offerings. But like Adam, you broke my
- 2:40covenant and betrayed my trust. Gilead is a city of sinners
- 2:46tracked with footprints of blood.
- 2:48Priests form bands of robbers waiting in ambush for their
- 2:52victims. They murder travellers along the
- 2:55road to Shechem and practise every kind of sin.
- 2:59Yes, I have seen something horrible in Ephraim and Israel.
- 3:04My people are defiled by prostituting themselves with
- 3:07other gods. Oh, Judah, a harvest of
- 3:12punishment is also waiting for you, though I wanted to restore
- 3:16the fortunes of my people. Our Lord, you truly are a God
- 3:29who sees through to our heart. You don't want tokenistic
- 3:33gestures of faith, You want us to know you.
- 3:37You don't want our sacrifices, You want our love.
- 3:43And so here we are, our wonderful Lord.
- 3:47We are your people and we love you.
- 3:50And we come before you today to know you better, to hear your
- 3:55word, to learn more about your heart, to learn more about you,
- 4:00and to spend time in your presence.
- 4:03Holy Spirit, come to us, touch us, bubble up inside of us so
- 4:11that we would know you, so that we would experience you, so that
- 4:19through this closeness with you, you can change us and renew us.
- 4:24But most importantly, you can make us understand the depth of
- 4:28your love for us. Oh, you are a good God and we
- 4:33love you so much. And we thank you for loving us.
- 4:39And we pray all of this in your beautiful name, Jesus, Amen.
