- 0:29Amen. Open your Bibles to Psalm #73
- 0:32Psalm 73. One of my favorite Psalms in all
- 0:37the Bible. Very personal for me as it often
- 0:41describes my life. Psalm 73 different ingredients
- 0:45at times, although I have felt a little bit like the psalmist as
- 0:49he lays it out, but it's always that point where you're, you're
- 0:53going through it, you're suffering, you're, you're just
- 0:56dealing with whatever you're doing and you lose perspective.
- 1:00I'm not going to ask you to raise your hand, but I'm certain
- 1:03that there are many today among us that have lost perspective
- 1:07because of circumstances. You're, and what I mean by that
- 1:09is you're just not seeing it the way God wants you to see it.
- 1:14And once you gain the perspective of God, everything
- 1:18will change around you. You'll begin to sense His
- 1:20presence again. You'll begin to see all of this
- 1:24tension and animosity and difficulty completely dissipate
- 1:28because your eyes are back on the Lord.
- 1:32There's so much going on in our world today that it can be very
- 1:36overwhelming. We're living on information
- 1:39overload, and most of that information is bad news,
- 1:43difficult news to deal with, difficult situations.
- 1:47Well, we're in a time and in our society where we are hearing so
- 1:51many bad things. Not just that we're hearing bad
- 1:55things, but most of the things we hear about, we can't do
- 1:58anything about them. They're happening on the other
- 2:01side of the world. They're happening to people we
- 2:03don't know. They're happening in places that
- 2:05will never be. We don't have the resources to
- 2:08help and it can be very overwhelming.
- 2:11It's true that we're living in a day like described in Isaiah.
- 2:16If you want to jot it down in Isaiah chapter 5, verses 20 and
- 2:1921, we live in a day where Isaiah says woe to those who
- 2:24call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and
- 2:29light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for
- 2:34bitter. Woe to those who are wise in
- 2:37their own eyes and prudent in their own sight.
- 2:42Later on in the New Testament, Paul would exhort young Timothy
- 2:46not to be discouraged by the days that he would face.
- 2:50Jot it down. Second Timothy chapter 3 in
- 2:53verse one it says, but know this, that in the last days
- 2:57perilous times will come. And you can circle that word
- 3:01perilous. You can just jot in your notes.
- 3:03It means to be violent, fierce or demonic, and they all apply.
- 3:09Know this, Timothy. In the last days, perilous times
- 3:13will come, difficult times, violent times.
- 3:17Men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money,
- 3:21boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents,
- 3:25unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanders without
- 3:29self-control, brutal, despisers of good traitors, headstrong,
- 3:34haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
- 3:38And what's most important, he says at the end, having a form
- 3:40of godliness but denying its power from such people.
- 3:45Turn away. Yes, the days do discourage us.
- 3:51You add to that not only the days in which we live, but but
- 3:56also our family and the situations that are in our
- 3:59family and the challenges that come to us.
- 4:02The days do discourage us. The injustices, the unfairness,
- 4:07they're unbearable. They're unbearable, especially
- 4:10when you're on the other side, when it's personal, where you're
- 4:15facing a situation or two or three and you look at it and go,
- 4:18this is just not right. This is just not fair.
- 4:23Or you may even ask God, why me? Why now?
- 4:30Don't you know, Lord, I've given you my life, I'm not living for
- 4:34the world anymore. The pains and the problems of
- 4:37sin make us heart sick and all of it can really mess with your
- 4:41mind. All that we're dealing with can
- 4:44mess with your mind and skew your thinking.
- 4:48Many times we're so overwhelmed by the circumstances or even our
- 4:51enemies. We're so overcome by our
- 4:53problems we lose true perspective.
- 4:56And here's what happens. You ready?
- 4:58When you lose perspective, your emotions quickly fill the void
- 5:03and you begin to live by emotions.
- 5:05And the emotions are usually negative or strong desires.
- 5:10As we learned recently, you begin to deal with all these
- 5:13different lusts, these lusts that are strong, out of control
- 5:17desires perhaps in the sexual realm, or lust for power, lust
- 5:22for notoriety. And when you lose perspective,
- 5:24one strong emotion that comes up is not only pain and hurt, but a
- 5:29lust. To take or to have control back
- 5:33of your life, it feels like it's out of control and it's out of
- 5:37your control. And here we're being set up for
- 5:41discouragement and we're being set up for defeat.
- 5:45Ultimately, we're being set up for destruction.
- 5:49Church, it's so important to learn how to handle life's
- 5:52issues and how the Lord uses these things in our lives.
- 5:57When we get our eyes on all these difficult things, focusing
- 6:01on them, fretting about them, worrying about them, trying to
- 6:04fix them, trying to fix everyone, trying to fix the
- 6:07situation because it gives us some kind of temporary peace
- 6:10because we feel like we're in control.
- 6:13You have to realize the devil's messing with your head, and it
- 6:17may not even be the enemy. It might be you messing with
- 6:20your own mind. Jumping in where God has you
- 6:22have no business jumping into God's business.
- 6:25It's a time for faith, not emotion.
- 6:28It's a time to trust, not to be overwhelmed with all your
- 6:31feelings. The devil starts to play mind
- 6:34games with us and we begin to think upon the unfairness of it
- 6:38all. And if we were in control, we
- 6:40may even begin to think completely wrong like Job did in
- 6:45Job chapter 21 verse 7 says why do the wicked?
- 6:49Live and become. Old, yes, become mighty in
- 6:52power. Their descendants are
- 6:54established with them in their sight, and their offspring
- 6:58before their eyes. Their horse, their houses are
- 7:01safe from fear. Neither is the rod of God.
- 7:05Upon them, you know what Job is saying.
- 7:07Why do I suffer and my neighbor doesn't?
- 7:10Why is it so easy? For them, why did they get away
- 7:13with everything? Why is it only me, only me, only
- 7:17me, only me And you just got the wrong perspective.
- 7:21It's not only you. And God still is in control.
- 7:26You look at someone and go, man, they're getting away with it,
- 7:28Lord, it's just not fair. I can't believe they're getting
- 7:31away with it. They don't.
- 7:32Love you like I love you. They don't serve you like I
- 7:35serve you. They're not even born again.
- 7:38What is wrong God? And before you know it, it
- 7:41starts to affect your own walk with the Lord.
- 7:43No longer is it the circumstances outside of your
- 7:46control, but now what's a part of our control?
- 7:49We have yielded and ceded to sin and we all know that the wages
- 7:53of sin is what death. It starts to erode your
- 7:56relationship with God. You are mad at the one, or
- 8:00frustrated at the one, or fearful of the one or whatever
- 8:03emotion you're dealing with. You are now separating yourself
- 8:07from God. You feel so far.
- 8:09That's when you start to hear things like I feel so far from
- 8:11God. Well, he hasn't.
- 8:13Moved. He hasn't abandoned you.
- 8:16God hasn't gone against his word.
- 8:18And what did He promise? Never to leave or forsake you.
- 8:22The movement away from God isn't from God, it's from you.
- 8:27And here's what's deceptive about it all.
- 8:30You're the one hurting, and you're the one that the
- 8:33situation is happening to. And you're the one that's on the
- 8:36other side of unfairness, but you're also the one that
- 8:38separated yourself away from God.
- 8:42And you can see you're just set up.
- 8:44It's just a set up. Instead of pressing into the
- 8:47things of the Lord, you have allowed emotion to overtake you,
- 8:51and you're pulling away from the things of God.
- 8:54That's where the psalmist is. And that may be where you are
- 8:56today. It's exactly where he is in
- 8:58Psalm 73. It is a familiar story, true,
- 9:03that's been shared by many, many people.
- 9:06Different names, different circumstances, different time
- 9:09periods, same story. Listen to the psalmist Psalm 73.
- 9:13Let's read through it at least through the 1st 15 or 16 verses.
- 9:19It says truly God is good to Israel, to such as.
- 9:23Are pure in heart. So far so good.
- 9:26When you say church, so far so good.
- 9:29But As for me, my feet had almost stumbled.
- 9:33My steps had nearly slipped, for I was envious of the boastful
- 9:38when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
- 9:41There are no pains in their death, but their strength is
- 9:44firm. They're not in trouble as other
- 9:47men, nor are they plagued like other men.
- 9:50Therefore pride serves as their necklace.
- 9:53Violence covers them like a garment.
- 9:56Their eyes bulge with abundance. They have more than heart could
- 10:00wish for sake. They scoff and speak wickedly
- 10:04concerning oppression. They speak loftily.
- 10:08They've set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue
- 10:11walks through the earth. Verse 10 Therefore his people
- 10:14return here, and waters of a full cup are drained by them.
- 10:18And they say, How does God know? And is their knowledge in the
- 10:22Most High? Behold, these are the ungodly,
- 10:25who are always at ease. They increase in riches.
- 10:29Listen to verse 13. Listen to his conclusions now.
- 10:32Surely I have cleansed my heart in vain and wash my hands in
- 10:38innocence for all day. Long I've been plagued and
- 10:42chastened every morning. I remember a time in my life
- 10:47when I lived these verses out of my mouth.
- 10:50Literally. Out of my mouth in a time of
- 10:52anguish and prayer and just having one of those one-on-one
- 10:56times with the Lord. I was so upset and I was, it was
- 11:00so hard even thinking about it now because it's not resolved.
- 11:04And just thinking about it now, I just like, OK, Lord, I'm going
- 11:06to walk in the Spirit. But I remember out of my own
- 11:09lips, Pastor Ed, walking with the Lord, walking in the Spirit,
- 11:13Great man of faith, which I'm really not, but great man of
- 11:16faith stepping out. We're going to do the great
- 11:18things for God. I remember a time where I'm
- 11:20like, you know what, Lord? It's not even worth it.
- 11:23If you're going to allow this to happen.
- 11:25Like, don't you see my dedicate? I I just remember all these
- 11:28things, like just and he's there.
- 11:30You know, I can picture God going.
- 11:32Go ahead, Ed, get it all out. Just get it all out.
- 11:35Tell me everything you're feeling.
- 11:37Just go ahead, Just say it. Surely I've cleansed my heart in
- 11:39vain. I mean, I really.
- 11:41Believed it. I felt it.
- 11:43I felt. It deep in my soul, watching my
- 11:46wife crying or sleep, seeing the damage coming to my family,
- 11:50watching the injustice. It's like, come on, boy, is this
- 11:55how I remember what one of the capstones of that time was?
- 11:58Is this how you reward? Your servants, maybe you have
- 12:05your own. You might want to just draw a
- 12:08little note down there and say, I know this, I know this verse,
- 12:13I know this truth. It says in verse 14, all day
- 12:18long feels that way. It's not true, but it feels that
- 12:20way. All day long I've been plagued
- 12:23and chastened every morning. If I had said I will speak thus,
- 12:26behold, I would have been untrue to the generation of your
- 12:30children. When I thought how to understand
- 12:33this, it was too painful for me. The psalmist is struggling here.
- 12:42Do you see it? He's struggling big time, Asaph.
- 12:48Going through some real trials, personal stuff.
- 12:51He didn't read a book about this.
- 12:53He's not dealing with his neighbor.
- 12:55He's not. It's his life.
- 12:58He took out his quill and began to write, This is my life I
- 13:01want, this is my prayer. This is my song to the Lord.
- 13:05And it's a song of lament, a song of pain.
- 13:09He's sitting in his pain. I mean, he begins, I know God is
- 13:14good. I know God is good.
- 13:16But for me, I almost stumbled. I don't believe this word.
- 13:22Stumbled in the Hebrew refers to just tripping over a little
- 13:24Pebble. Like he's really saying, I
- 13:27almost threw it all in. I was almost done.
- 13:30I was that close. You can say that, can't you?
- 13:33Sometimes I was that close. And you know, when you have your
- 13:36fingers together, you don't do this.
- 13:38It was like, so as close as you can get without touching.
- 13:41I was that close. That's what the psalmist says.
- 13:46It was in this time of pain that Asaph concluded falsely.
- 13:51He's all come to the wrong conclusions here.
- 13:54It's not what he thinks and it's not what he feels.
- 13:58Why? Because he's not seeing things
- 14:01clearly. He's lost perspective of the
- 14:06truth. He's chosen to emote and lament
- 14:11things that are not true. He's wrong in his assumptions
- 14:19and he's wrong in his conclusion.
- 14:23It's possible to today that many listening to me are under the
- 14:26weight of life's difficulties, things that you can't do
- 14:30anything about. You know this is always the
- 14:34purpose of Satan, to make you think wrong.
- 14:37He knows where the warfare is and it's in your mind what you
- 14:40choose to believe. So from the garden he showed his
- 14:43cards. We know the tool.
- 14:45He wants you to believe a lie. He'll take you to believe any
- 14:48lie, but He wants you to believe a lie, but especially lies.
- 14:52He wants us to believe lies about God.
- 14:55He wants us to doubt God's sincerity.
- 14:58He wants us to doubt God's truthfulness.
- 15:00He wants us to doubt everything about what we know.
- 15:03He begins to play with our heads and twist things around and have
- 15:08you believe a lie or two. Then you sit and you begin to
- 15:12meditate on it. And you try to explain it away,
- 15:15but then you start to think, oh, maybe that's true.
- 15:17Maybe that's the way it is. Maybe God doesn't really care.
- 15:19Maybe he does let people. Maybe I'm getting punished for
- 15:22my past sins. Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe
- 15:26Asafi, You know what he's thinking right now?
- 15:28He's thinking it's a waste of time serving God.
- 15:31What's the point? What's the point in serving God
- 15:33if I have to suffer worse than my unbelieving neighbors?
- 15:37If you let believers get away with that, if you have pastors
- 15:40approve of that, like, what's the point?
- 15:43What's the point? Why should I serve if I'm going
- 15:46to suffer anyway? What good is it to dedicate
- 15:50myself to God? That's the issue.
- 15:53If I'm going to suffer and I'm going to suffer badly in this
- 15:57world, then what's the point of serving God?
- 16:02Which is a great miscalculation, isn't it?
- 16:06Because even the statement speaks to your motives and my
- 16:10motives. God has used some pain in our
- 16:14lives to reveal to us that our motives are off, that we've
- 16:19really thinking that if we serve.
- 16:21God, we'll have a little less. Pain if we serve.
- 16:24God, we'll have a little. Less and a little less of this
- 16:27and maybe a little more of that instead of serving God for who
- 16:30He is and how wonderful it is to be His son or His daughter.
- 16:37I mean, if you ask the question, it's not entirely wrong to ask
- 16:41the question. If you say if I'm going to
- 16:43suffer anyway, what good is it that I dedicate myself to God?
- 16:47It's a valid question if you ask it.
- 16:51It's a valid question as you share it.
- 16:54When you try to sit down and figure it out, it's too much.
- 16:57It's overwhelming. That's what the psalmist says
- 17:00when I thought about how to understand this, trying to
- 17:03process at all, trying to and watch out for these words in
- 17:07your life as you approach spiritual things, you always
- 17:09know that. You always know that you're
- 17:13going to be going off just a little bit or maybe a lot when
- 17:16you begin to approach spiritual things with this thought.
- 17:18I need to figure this out. OK, figure it.
- 17:23Out let me know how it goes because you're going to come to
- 17:25the same conclusion when I thought to how to understand
- 17:28this or a paraphrase when I try to figure it out.
- 17:33It was too hard, too painful. It's too much.
- 17:40And you know what Aesop does? He does finally makes the right
- 17:45decision. It says in verse 17, he heads to
- 17:47the temple. He heads to the House of God.
- 17:51It was too faint painful for me. And there's that word, the title
- 17:54of our Bible study today. It was too painful for me until,
- 18:00until, until I went into the sanctuary of God.
- 18:04Then I understood their end. That's the turning point, isn't
- 18:10it? That's the key for some
- 18:13listening to me right now, right here in the house, the House of
- 18:15God, where we come to worship the God of the house.
- 18:18You're here, you're downstairs, right here in this moment.
- 18:21This is the turning point in your life.
- 18:23You came to the House of God. And he's giving you
- 18:26understanding about your current situation right now.
- 18:29If you receive it by faith, it is yours.
- 18:32All you need to do is receive it.
- 18:33God is ready to give you clarity.
- 18:35If you're willing to receive it, God has already given it because
- 18:39you came to the House of God. You walked in obedience.
- 18:42You took every ounce of energy that you possibly had.
- 18:46And so I'm going to be there. I need to be there.
- 18:48I can listen and I can grab the podcast and I can watch online.
- 18:52But I've got to be there, right here, ASAP.
- 18:56I've got to be there. That's where I got
- 18:59understanding. It's in times like these we need
- 19:02to step out of our pain, out of our difficulties, out of the
- 19:06world's rebellion and get again the perspective of eternity.
- 19:12Rather than envying the wicked or being overwhelmed by evil
- 19:16progressing or even becoming sad and sorrowful and me centered
- 19:20because of the difficulties in my life, we need to see our
- 19:24situation in the light of eternity.
- 19:28And if there is a person involved in your life that is
- 19:30giving you and perpetuating and all this pain in your life, you
- 19:33have all of the spiritual activity.
- 19:35You have the the need to forgive and the need to love and to love
- 19:39your enemies. All of those are great.
- 19:40But before any of those flow in your life, you need the right
- 19:44perspective. You need to see people the way
- 19:47God. Sees them not as the thorn in
- 19:50your flesh, but as the soul to be saved and to be changed by
- 19:55the power of God. All of a sudden his eyes open.
- 19:59Verse 18. Surely you set them in slippery
- 20:02places, you cast them down to destruction.
- 20:06Oh, how they're brought to desolation, as in a moment they
- 20:10are utterly consumed with terrors.
- 20:12As a dream when one awakes so Lord, when you awake, you shall
- 20:17despise their image. Thus my heart was grieved, and I
- 20:22was vexed in my mind. Notice what he sees now in verse
- 20:2522. I don't know if you're willing
- 20:28to say this about yourself, but you need to.
- 20:30When God reveals it I was so foolish, that's a statement of
- 20:35humility. You keep fighting your own
- 20:38thing, doing your own thing, pressing your own way, doing
- 20:41your own agenda. When God says no, you, you're
- 20:43foolish. You've been making all these
- 20:45decisions apart from me. You've been making them aside
- 20:49from me. You've been associating that
- 20:51this is from me. And when I never, I never said
- 20:54that to you, I never gave you that direction.
- 20:58I was so. Foolish and ignorant, I was like
- 21:02verse 22, a beast before you. Nevertheless, I'm continually
- 21:07with you. You hold me by my right hand.
- 21:10You will guide me with your counsel and afterward receive me
- 21:16to glory. And this is one of the many
- 21:19reasons why it's important to be together in worship.
- 21:24Together in the House of God, together in smaller groups,
- 21:27together with other believers. When we're together, the Lord
- 21:33uses this time to encourage one another.
- 21:36He uses this time to encourage us.
- 21:39You can see that in the psalmist when he came into the.
- 21:41House of God. There's no mention of him
- 21:44talking to anyone else but God. Haven't you found not to be
- 21:48true? You come in your room with a,
- 21:50you know, a few 100 people right now, thousands of people on the
- 21:52weekends and it's just you and God.
- 21:55You, you don't even know anybody else is in the room because
- 21:58God's doing business in your own heart.
- 22:00I mean, you know, people are in the room, but God so captures
- 22:02you and you, you hear them singing, but it's your song.
- 22:05And you hear the Bible study. But some of you are stuck on a
- 22:08word I said 10 minutes ago, because the Lord said that's
- 22:10you. That's you right there.
- 22:12Humility, that's. You and you're all but I'm he's
- 22:15teaching. He's like, no, I'm talking.
- 22:17And God just speaking to you because in the House of God, it
- 22:21is not exclusive that this little piece of property, this
- 22:23little chunk of dirt in Aurora, Co is the only place.
- 22:28But this is the place God has made you a part of his family
- 22:30right here. This is your family.
- 22:32This is your church. This is your room.
- 22:35These are your people. You know, can you look at just
- 22:37look at someone next to you, turn around and say you're my
- 22:39people. Go ahead, Just say you're my
- 22:40people. Just say find somebody if you
- 22:43have to. Just say you're my people.
- 22:45This is your family, this is your church.
- 22:48Where are your people? This is that like we belong to
- 22:51you, Lord, but we belong to 1. Another Asaf.
- 22:53It wasn't even at that place yet.
- 22:55God was telling Asaf, you're my son.
- 22:58I'm with you continually. I'm so glad that you got out of
- 23:02yourself and you came to the House of the Lord.
- 23:05This is where I'm so glad you came to me, son.
- 23:08I'm so glad you came to me, daughter, because I have a word
- 23:10for you. I know it's hard.
- 23:14I know it's difficult. I know it's challenging, but I
- 23:18have compassion on you. We're.
- 23:20Going to get through this together.
- 23:21God would say. In Hebrews chapter 10 and verse
- 23:2424, it says let us consider one another in order to stir up love
- 23:29and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves
- 23:33together as in the manner of some, but exhorting one another
- 23:37and so much more. As you see the day approaching.
- 23:41Would you take this to heart Church, matter of fact, turn
- 23:43over to Hebrews chapter 10. Get your pin out highlight on
- 23:47your phone or on your tablet. I want you to mark this and I
- 23:50have a specific piece of homework for you that I want to
- 23:53share with you. So Hebrews chapter 10, verse 24,
- 23:57I want you to mark these words. I want you to mark them.
- 24:01I want you to circle them. I want you to connect these with
- 24:06your heart and lead to action. I want you to mark.
- 24:09Let us consider one another to stir up love and good works.
- 24:14This is how I want you to come to church.
- 24:17This is what I want you thinking about on the last few hours of
- 24:20work. This is what I want you thinking
- 24:22about before you wake up. Not before you wake up.
- 24:25I guess you can dream about it when you wake up on a Sunday
- 24:28morning, or you're thinking about Saturday, or you're going
- 24:31to show up in your small group, or you're heading out to the
- 24:33marriage conference. Whatever you I want you to think
- 24:36about, God use me. To stir up love and good works,
- 24:39use me, use my words, use my personality, not just coming to
- 24:44the gathering of what God has for you because he has
- 24:47everything for you. Anything that you need, God is
- 24:49ready to meet you. But what do you have?
- 24:52What does God want to do? So I'm reaching out to a new
- 24:55friend I met last last year. I'm reaching out.
- 24:57He's a pastor in California and I'm just checking in on him.
- 25:00And so hey, what did God give you at this?
- 25:02I knew he was at a conference, so I was just saying.
- 25:04So he wrote back, you know, I want to do this and I want.
- 25:07God gave him a few things at the conference, which was great, but
- 25:10then he mentioned a mutual friend that we have that I
- 25:14didn't know was a mutual friend, but God uses this brother
- 25:16amazingly. So one of the things this friend
- 25:19wrote back to me, this new friend he says and and this
- 25:21brother, he encouraged me that I'm to be sensitive to the Holy
- 25:25Spirit and that God has raised me up for a special time to help
- 25:30people and make an impact. The encouragement revealed a
- 25:34desire I have for help in this area and I'm like man.
- 25:38And I, the first thought I had, besides encouraging this
- 25:41brother, was that brother that he mentioned.
- 25:44That is what he's known for. And it didn't surprise me that
- 25:48it was that brother that connected with a brand new
- 25:51friend I just met last December, that we're just getting to know
- 25:54each other, see if God will partner us in ministry together.
- 25:57I can see I had the privilege of teaching his daughter in the
- 26:00Bible college and I, I met him there.
- 26:02I could see just God's doing an amazing thing.
- 26:05And now a mutual friend of ours is telling them the same thing.
- 26:08But here's the point. You ready?
- 26:10You guys ready for this? That brother, my friend that
- 26:13went to encourage, he went to encourage.
- 26:16It was on his mind. He was ready to find someone
- 26:20like he. He was ready.
- 26:21He he was ready to be used of God with the gift that God have
- 26:25him. He took to heart considering one
- 26:28another in order to stir up love and good works.
- 26:30Look, we're a church that has a heart for our community and
- 26:33that's only going to overflow. It's only going to be more in
- 26:36these last days. God is going to use us in
- 26:38amazing, great ways. I can sense it and I'm already
- 26:41seeing it happening. But you know what?
- 26:43As you look for the world, and you look to see the lost, do you
- 26:46know that the God doesn't look over your head?
- 26:49To the lost here, he doesn't overlook you.
- 26:52So OK, you know yours. I say, let's go after the
- 26:55community. No, no, he doesn't overlook us.
- 26:58But here's I believe in expectation.
- 27:00It's a command right from the Bible.
- 27:03When when you're with other believers, hey, consider,
- 27:07consider them. Ask them how they're doing.
- 27:11Be ready to stir up, Be ready to give a word.
- 27:14Be ready to pray. Be ready to stir up love and
- 27:19good works. Ask the Lord to use you in this
- 27:22area. It's important that we also not
- 27:25overlook. Look over the heads of the
- 27:28person. You just turned around and told
- 27:29somebody. You're my people.
- 27:30You meant it. I know we were just doing it as
- 27:33a silly exercise, but it's really not silly, is it?
- 27:37And neither is an exercise. It's the truth.
- 27:40It's your family, the family of God.
- 27:43These are the men and women that God has put in your life so you
- 27:45could stir up love and good works.
- 27:48So you can pray for a word that you can begin.
- 27:51Now you're thinking about I'm, I'm heading to church.
- 27:53OK, There's preparation. You got to prepare your heart.
- 27:56And one of the preparations is Lord, I just want to stir
- 27:59someone up tonight. I want to help them.
- 28:01Give me a word. Help me see and give me
- 28:03discernment. Give me a word of knowledge.
- 28:05A word of. Wisdom.
- 28:06I don't walk in the Spirit. I want to be active in the
- 28:09gifts. I want to be used
- 28:11supernaturally. And a lot of times, you know,
- 28:13it's pastor, you go, I just want to see what happened to the
- 28:15church. What happened to the church.
- 28:17The church doesn't look like the church in the book of Acts.
- 28:19You know, where all the miracles, where's all the hype?
- 28:21And I don't know. Slow your roll a little bit.
- 28:23Slow down. Slow down because first of all,
- 28:26when you read back of the early church, you know, what early
- 28:28church do you want to be exactly?
- 28:30The church that gets rebuked in Corinth?
- 28:32Yeah, that's what we want to be. We want to be the church in
- 28:34Corinth. Nobody wants to be the church in
- 28:36Corinth. You want to be the church in
- 28:37Ephesus that had every spiritual gift and then a few years later
- 28:42Jesus says, what happened to you guys?
- 28:4330 years and you're not walking with me anymore.
- 28:46Get back to your first love. I mean, what early church do you
- 28:48want to be? I want to be the church that's
- 28:51moving in the holy. Spirit and I hope I don't have
- 28:54to ever meet Ananias and Sapphira drop dead here for
- 28:58their lying because you know what they were doing.
- 29:00And and I remember Ananias and Sapphira, we weren't too long
- 29:03ago. We were in the book of Acts only
- 29:04three years ago. Wasn't that long?
- 29:09But there they are. Wanting to do something great
- 29:11for God. Sold a piece.
- 29:13Of land, they're going to give it for the the the need of the
- 29:17early church and they only bring a portion.
- 29:23What do you mean? Pastor, they got judged for just
- 29:25bringing a portion. No, no, no.
- 29:27If you're unfamiliar with the story, the true story in the
- 29:30Bible, it's a little deeper than that.
- 29:32It wasn't about what they brought.
- 29:35It was about how they brought it.
- 29:39They didn't have to bring anything.
- 29:40It was a willing heart, the Holy Spirit.
- 29:42They didn't have to bring anything.
- 29:43But they saw the notoriety that Barnabas got when he sold his
- 29:47land and gave it to the early church and set it at the feet of
- 29:51the apostles. And we saw what what blessing
- 29:55there was in giving. They go, we have a piece of land
- 29:57too. Let's sell it and let's bring a
- 29:59portion. But let's tell them we.
- 30:02Brought it all like Barnabas did.
- 30:06We're just like Barnabas. No, actually, you're not.
- 30:10You're liars and hypocrites and they were judged on the spot.
- 30:16Fortunately, God doesn't do that in the church any longer or the
- 30:20church would be empty constantly.
- 30:22We'd be come on go. Come on though, we'd all be
- 30:25gone. Do you have a new pastor every
- 30:26week? And it would just be no God.
- 30:28There's a grace of God as He's patient with us and helps us.
- 30:31But here's the thing. A lot of people walk into church
- 30:34every week, whether we're teaching on it or not, you know,
- 30:37depending on where we are in the Scriptures.
- 30:39There are people walking in the building all the time that are
- 30:42just like Psalm 73, including you.
- 30:46And you've got to add something to your life, and that is God.
- 30:51How will you use me to stir up love and good works?
- 30:54Help me to consider my neighbor, my brother, my sister.
- 30:57Help me to meet somebody. Use me today.
- 30:59Lord, you want to be the church, the early church and move in the
- 31:03gifts and the Holy Spirit. You can just do it.
- 31:08Who knows how God's going to use you?
- 31:10But don't overlook the small things because they're really
- 31:12not small. You encourage someone and they
- 31:14get through another week. You think that's small.
- 31:17Who knows where they're at? Who knows what edge you pulled
- 31:21them off of? Who knows what ongoing that you
- 31:25prayed for them, but they're going to walk right out those
- 31:27doors or that door back into the same problem because their
- 31:30problems not easily solved, but you encourage them.
- 31:35You reminded them you love them. You put your hand on their
- 31:38shoulder and they felt the warmth of your hand and the Lord
- 31:42says you're not alone. I've got a lot of people here.
- 31:47You're going to make it through and you know, as you're walking
- 31:51in the spirit, you may even find that you're going to meet people
- 31:54that are going through something that.
- 31:57You just got the victory over. Because Second Corinthians
- 32:00chapter 1 says. God is the God of.
- 32:02All comfort who comforts us on all our tribulation so that we
- 32:07might comfort others and God will bring people into our lives
- 32:14every time we gather we should consider one another stirring up
- 32:20it should be a time where our. Perspective is corrected.
- 32:24Where we go from As for me, verse 2, coming back to Psalms
- 32:27now 73 we come, we go, we we, we start at but As for me, my feet
- 32:33had almost stumbled. Then we go through all the
- 32:35difficulty. Then we come into the sanctuary
- 32:38of the Lord, and look how it ends in verse 25 He says, Whom
- 32:43have I in heaven but you? And there is none upon the earth
- 32:47that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart fail, but
- 32:53God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
- 32:59For indeed those who are far from you shall perish.
- 33:02You have destroyed all those who desert you for harlotry.
- 33:05But it is a good for me to draw near to God.
- 33:09I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all your
- 33:14works. Our worship of God is not for
- 33:18what we can get. Our worship for God is for who
- 33:21He is, and what great comfort that brings to us that the God
- 33:26of all creation would love us. All week, or a month or even
- 33:35years. You've been beat down and beat
- 33:38up in the world and its system, relationships, your health, your
- 33:44family, culture, the Antichrist atmosphere that is among us
- 33:48already. You look around and things
- 33:51aren't fair. We see another thing here and
- 33:53another thing over there. We try to do what's right but
- 33:56get in trouble for it. The guy that is lying and
- 34:00stealing and cheating gets the promotion.
- 34:03When we get laid off, like, what's this?
- 34:07Prices for food are going up so much.
- 34:13It feels like as a believer in this world, you're marked at a
- 34:16disadvantage. What's the use?
- 34:19Like Asaph, we start becoming envious and jealous and even
- 34:23angry, and you conclude it's no use following the Lord.
- 34:26I'll never get ahead until you turn to the Lord.
- 34:31Until you come to the House of the Lord, until you open your
- 34:35Bible, until you humble yourself, until you repent,
- 34:39until you start praying, until you start asking for help, until
- 34:44everything changes. When you come into the sanctuary
- 34:46of God. Then you get the correct
- 34:48perspective from today to eternity.
- 34:51You get the bigger picture. And rather being envious and
- 34:54rather than being angry and rather being caught up in
- 34:57yourself, we begin to have compassion and.
- 34:59Care for a world that's separate from God.
- 35:03And that's when evangelism explodes, because you begin to
- 35:06care again about others, not only yourself.
- 35:11You begin to have God's perspective and you remember
- 35:16what a great benefit it is to be born again and to have your sins
- 35:19forgiven and your guilt erased and the shame that's gone away.
- 35:23That God has a plan and a purpose for your life, and that
- 35:27with you generational change started it.
- 35:29Started with you. If you have kids, it's going to
- 35:32go to your kids and your grandkids.
- 35:33Your parents are still alive. Your parents are going to be
- 35:36affected. You have siblings.
- 35:37Your siblings are going to be affected.
- 35:38Now they may not always like it, but that's fine.
- 35:41God is working in your family. You are the one.
- 35:44But isn't that? That the 1, Isn't that the
- 35:46thing? The family starts getting your
- 35:48eyes off the Lord and then what? Got to get back into the
- 35:52sanctuary. You know, you can't live here in
- 35:54the sanctuary, but you can come because you can have a sanctuary
- 36:00in your cubicle and a sanctuary in your bedroom and a sanctuary
- 36:06in your car. You can worship the Lord and you
- 36:10can turn. Oh yeah, we're to come here for
- 36:12sure. But the Lord is with us.
- 36:16Only the believer has a hope that transcends.
- 36:21And as we close, I want to give you a tool.
- 36:23I want to give you something that you can hold on to and
- 36:25practice in your life. I want you.
- 36:28It's it's going to be rather simple, but it needs to be said
- 36:31out loud, especially in a Bible study, when we give you an
- 36:34important tool of how to deal with difficulties in the world,
- 36:37how to handle the unfairness and the injustices, how to deal with
- 36:42all the skewed perspectives and all the mind games that the
- 36:45enemy's playing with you. You might even be playing.
- 36:47It was given to me many, many years ago and I want to give it
- 36:50to you now. I want you to take it with you.
- 36:52I want you to apply it and practice it.
- 36:55I want you to remember. This OK, here's the tool.
- 36:58Our faith is based upon certain foundational truths.
- 37:04Your faith in mine. One of the foundational truths
- 37:08upon which our whole. Faith and life is built on is
- 37:11the fact that God is good. God is good.
- 37:19This is very important. It's a very important thing to
- 37:23have at the forefront of your mind.
- 37:25It's an important foundational stone because there are many
- 37:28times in our lives when we're going to be facing circumstances
- 37:32which we don't know the full story and we don't like the
- 37:36current pain all of us face that you could even say it this way.
- 37:42There will always be in our lives times when it's so hard
- 37:45and so difficult and we really have no idea what God is doing
- 37:50or is going to do. We really don't know.
- 37:55You can study again the life of Joseph.
- 37:59He really didn't know. And even if he did know, I'm not
- 38:04sure he would want to continue in the pain.
- 38:07So this is what's going to happen at the end.
- 38:09All your brothers have sold you out.
- 38:11They're going to come to you, and you're going to save their
- 38:13lives. Yeah.
- 38:14I don't. I don't.
- 38:15Can we end it just like right now?
- 38:16Can we end it right now? Because I don't really like my
- 38:19brothers, so I'm not really interested in saving that.
- 38:22Like we don't live by knowledge, we live by faith.
- 38:25We don't live by understanding, we live by faith.
- 38:29And so here you have to remember that God is good.
- 38:33And it's in these times of deep heartache and heart wrenching
- 38:36pain that said that Satan the Devil is ready to.
- 38:39Challenge the goodness of God in my own heart.
- 38:45If God is good, then why did He allow this to happen to me?
- 38:50I must have said that dozens of times in the last 1213 years.
- 38:55You see, we all love the sovereignty of God and the plan
- 38:58of God. We all do when it's what we
- 39:01want. Of course we do.
- 39:04This is when our hands go up quickly.
- 39:06It's when we love the songs when we was a little skipping our
- 39:09step and we are all excited and their smiles on Hey.
- 39:12I love the will of God, sovereignty of God.
- 39:14God is good all the time, all the time God.
- 39:18Is good. It's when it's when things are
- 39:24not good that we're tempted to think that God's not good.
- 39:29And it's not really a real long distance between your situation
- 39:34not being good and you thinking God's not good, even just for a
- 39:37brief moment. It just gets transferred over to
- 39:41him and you've left the foundational truth of your
- 39:44faith. I know the problem of evil
- 39:48plagues many people. The answer to that question,
- 39:51theologically, sin is the root of all evil, is not
- 39:54satisfactory. It's like, well, you know, God
- 39:58could deal with that. And it's always God's fault for
- 40:00all the difficulties in life, but it's not God's fault.
- 40:04God's done everything on our behalf to make things right with
- 40:07us. And it's almost always in the
- 40:10middle of a situation where we don't know yet the final
- 40:13outcome. We're in this period of waiting,
- 40:16and I don't know how it's going to work out.
- 40:18And it looks like it's a disaster and I'm not going to
- 40:20make it that the devil comes along and he challenges God's
- 40:23goodness. Feet almost stumbled.
- 40:27I know God is good, the psalmist starts.
- 40:29But then right away I almost stumbled.
- 40:32I know he's good, but I almost stumbled.
- 40:34I know he's good, but I don't like that guy.
- 40:36I know he's good and I can't believe it.
- 40:37Guy, you didn't stop them. And it's always in those areas
- 40:40where I can't understand my present situation, that goodness
- 40:44of God is challenged. Pastor Chuck Smith put it this
- 40:48way, and I quote, it's important that you have certain basic
- 40:51foundations upon which your faith is built so that when you
- 40:55come to the areas that you don't understand, you can fall back on
- 41:00that which you do understand. I understand.
- 41:04I know he writes that God is good.
- 41:08I may not be able to relate that to the present circumstances
- 41:11because I don't understand this trial that I'm going through,
- 41:15but I know that God is good. And this is where the psalmist
- 41:20starts and where he ends. He starts with God is good, and
- 41:25he finally gets to the end where God is good.
- 41:27And that's where you're going to end up too.
- 41:30You can accelerate the process. Of course, you're here now.
- 41:35The Spirit of God is moving. But we know that no matter what
- 41:38happens in my life, that God is good, that He's faithful and
- 41:43reliable and He loves me. He proved His love to me on the
- 41:47cross. And even if I haven't
- 41:49experienced it lately, I don't feel it lately.
- 41:53God's, he remains faithful no matter what I feel.
- 41:56And if I'm faithless, God put a verse in the Bible just for me.
- 42:00The Bible says even if we are faithless, he remains faithful.
- 42:04And hearing even today, some of my testimony going, man, pastor,
- 42:07you're jacked up. Yeah, it's a hard life.
- 42:14Things are hard. They're challenging, out of our
- 42:18control. And some days better than
- 42:21others, for sure. But I'll tell you this, I know
- 42:27and I've experienced and I appreciate that my God loves me
- 42:33and that He'll strengthen me and sustain me and He'll even use me
- 42:36in my weakness. It's probably best that He uses
- 42:38me in my weakness so I can come and be humble, walking in the
- 42:42power of the Holy Spirit so that He gets all the credit.
- 42:46And you know what? By the way, following along with
- 42:48me. Pastor Ed's pretty jacked up.
- 42:51Maybe a few of you are too, and you have your own issues and
- 42:57your own stuff and your own problems.
- 43:00And you know what? God loves you too.
- 43:04Supremely, completely, unreservedly, holds nothing back
- 43:09from you. The pain and difficulty of sin
- 43:11is the consequence. It doesn't remove God's love.
- 43:15He won't stop loving you. You'll just stop enjoying it.
- 43:19And the farther and farther you get away, the less and less you
- 43:22enjoy the love of God and the intimacy and the closeness and
- 43:26the beauty of knowing that God loves to take that foundational
- 43:30truth. I know it's not something that
- 43:33is going to go viral on the Internet or anything, but you
- 43:36know what? It's already gone viral around
- 43:38the world. Men and women, millions, if not
- 43:41billions of people have been sustained by the love of God,
- 43:46and they just carry it on and pass it on and live it out.
- 43:50And that's how people in the world are impacted.
- 43:52It's the love of God, Amen. So, Father, thank you for your
- 43:56word and encouragement in this Psalm, the beauty of your word
- 43:59as it speaks to our hearts. And thank you for the men that
- 44:03you've put in our lives that have taught us the word of God
- 44:06before us. And even a simple truth that the
- 44:10foundation of my relationship with You is your love for me.
- 44:14I love you because you first love me.
- 44:18I Live Today because you granted me life.
- 44:22I make progress today because of your strength and your wisdom.
- 44:28And I pray God that is we're in the sanctuary of of worship
- 44:33today that everything gets reduced down beyond electronics,
- 44:39beyond remodels, beyond chairs, carpet, concrete, drywall,
- 44:44electronics, wires, beyond all of that.
- 44:49It's just a simple room filled with your agape love.
- 44:53It would just permeate our room, permeate our hearts that would
- 44:57stir up in US love and good works.
- 45:00The God we would be that person where I hear the name or they
- 45:03hear, then somebody hears the name of Oh yeah, that sister,
- 45:06she is just an encouragers. That's all she does.
- 45:09She's just an encourager. She's just seeing.
- 45:13Someone say, I think God's hand is upon your life.
- 45:15I think I see this in you and. So good to see you here, sister.
- 45:18So good to see you, brother. Let us be that church
- 45:21considering one another in order not to catch up on the latest,
- 45:27although we will, and not to find out what happened, although
- 45:30we will, but to consider to stir up love and good works.
- 45:36Make us those people, God, especially this group here
- 45:39midweek God, where we're just pressing in, pressing in for a
- 45:42little more. Well, give us a little more God.
- 45:45We receive it. We're ready for it.
- 45:48Even tonight as you're praying, just put your hands up with
- 45:50palms up and just in your own hearts, just ask for more.
- 45:53Go ahead, you could say it. Just I Lord, I want more.
- 45:56And it could be more of anything.
- 45:57I need more peace. God, give me more comfort.
- 46:00Just say it out loud. You go ahead.
- 46:01You have freedom. Just ask God for more.
- 46:04I need more money to pay my bills.
- 46:06I need more faith. I need more hope for my kids.
- 46:09I need more clarity for this situation.
- 46:13God, I need more love for my wife.
- 46:14I need more love for my husband. I I need more hope for my son
- 46:19who's just struggling. God, pour out your spirit.
- 46:23You see our open hands. God, we come to you, we just
- 46:26release our burdens and we ask for more of you.
- 46:29God, all these things are wrapped up in you.
- 46:33Until I came into the sanctuary of God, then I understood.
- 46:38Give more understanding today, not for the sake of deliverance,
- 46:42but for the sake of relationship.
- 46:43God truly bless your church tonight in Jesus name, Amen.
- 46:50Amen. OK, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 46:52How many of you truly, truly right now, from your heart?
- 46:56Had a hard time asking for more. How many?
- 46:59OK, just stand up. Stand up.
- 47:00You had a truly, I'm going to I think the Lord wants to show you
- 47:03so just anybody. That struggled like a real
- 47:05struggle. He's like, I'll do it because
- 47:06the pastor. Told me to do it.
- 47:07But but you really struggled just.
- 47:09Stand up right now. Stand up.
- 47:11It's OK. God's meeting you right where
- 47:14you are. Because still though, it's just
- 47:16a burden. You just can't get away from it.
- 47:20You wake up with it, you go to bed with it.
- 47:23So God, I just pray for these. Standing around you guys around
- 47:26them, you can get up and stand with them, pray over them, put
- 47:28your hands on them. Just get up and move around
- 47:31because my heart is with you. Your hands are open, your heart
- 47:36is open, your mind is open, but it's hard.
- 47:42And so God just give this clarity to those that are
- 47:45battling. And so they were obedient.
- 47:48But it was hard. There was a lapse of faith,
- 47:51perhaps, or it's just impossible.
- 47:54What can we, what could? It's just impossible, Lord, But
- 47:58I remember your word. What's impossible with man is
- 48:01possible with God. So we just prayed to the God of
- 48:05the impossible. And I pray for the hearts that
- 48:08are broken here. I'm grateful some had much
- 48:11faith, but now let that much faith be shared.
- 48:14Your word says in Galatians, we're going to share each
- 48:16other's burdens. And I pray for the pain that all
- 48:19this represents. Give us hope, God, give us
- 48:22strength. Pour out your spirit among us in
- 48:25Jesus name, Amen. We pray that you've been
