- 0:05Drama, Darling Drama, Darling Drama, Darling. Hello, darlings, it's
- 0:21me Ammy Phillips, and here we are to discuss Capoti versus the Swans,
- 0:29Ryan Murphy's latest series on FX. And joining me to do that is EMILYE.
- 0:34Desis. I am hello. I'm very excited to talk about this little
- 0:44I know I was a little worried that it would be a little too friendly
- 0:49to Capote Capoti, but I always say Capote. But it's great, it's
- 0:56perfect. It humanizes him, and I was a little worried that maybe he
- 1:00was going to get like a little bit of a fresh take that would maybe
- 1:07eliminate some of his flaws, but not in a Ryan Murphy piece. No,
- 1:11I agree. Ryan Murphy's going to give it to you. You know,
- 1:15He's going to straight up give it to you the right way and the
- 1:18way that we need it, no matter what the story is. But yeah,
- 1:21I do feel like it. It seems pretty scandalous. Like watching it,
- 1:27it's a scandalous story about a scandalous man, and he's giving it to
- 1:34us with a lot of scandal. Yeah, Darling, a lot. Well,
- 1:40I mean that that is it. I mean, I've said it before
- 1:42I'll say it again, like that's why we kind of love the Housewives.
- 1:47And in a lot of ways, I see the Swans is Andy Cohen's Housewives,
- 1:51except for its flipped that he has the power and they don't. And
- 1:56so I don't think he says I mean he doesn't. He's not like as
- 2:00messy as Componi in any way. But in terms of just like putting that
- 2:05lifestyle on a pedestal and like letting us like really see behind the gates.
- 2:09Yeah, think that that is like the difference is Andy Cohen and Bravo are
- 2:15like, no, we are going to tell everybody everything. It turns out
- 2:19it doesn't matter. They are fine with it. Yeah, that's so wild.
- 2:23I mean, if if you were to compare the two and I know
- 2:24that this has been a frequent comparison over the years that people have, you
- 2:29know, said about Andy Cohen, and it is very different. I mean
- 2:35it's it couldn't be like more flipped because he's not exposing them, He's not
- 2:43betraying Andy's not betraying the housewives. Correct. However, I think that the
- 2:50housewives will feel in a certain way betrayed by him as a result of their
- 2:57time on the show. So when it's time to be on pause, or
- 3:01it's time to not be asked back, or it's time to we're going in
- 3:07a different direction. You know. They probably feel like they've exploited, they've
- 3:12exposed, They've been transparent all these years for what now I'm getting tossed out.
- 3:17So there are a lot of similarities on that level where they may feel
- 3:23a sense of betrayal. At the end of the day, however, it's
- 3:25more of a business and they are putting themselves out there. So there are
- 3:30certain things about it that don't have any parallels at all. But it is
- 3:36wild to see how this. I don't know much about Truman Capoti and you
- 3:44know, so this is an interesting angle on it all. And I suppose
- 3:47this series is based on a book, which is this the one that you're
- 3:53reading, Capote's Women, a true story of love, betrayal and a swan
- 3:55song for an era written by Lawrence Lerner. Oh, I'm sorry, Yeah,
- 4:00I don't have my quest. Lawrence lamer Yes, so that. Yeah,
- 4:06he's written like other kind of uh, like the Kennedy Men, and
- 4:13he's working on one now for like about the Hitchcock Blondes, Like he kind
- 4:16of like does these groupings of people and how they all interweave and stuff.
- 4:20Wow, he's doing Hitchcock Blonds next. Oh see that one. That one
- 4:27will be way up my alley. Okay, I'm a huge Hitchcock Hitchcock fan.
- 4:30Okay, wow. Interesting, Yeah, I think like this. And
- 4:36then Ryan Murphy's series deviates in terms of like it focuses a little bit more
- 4:44on people that I'm not finished book yet. I'm doing the audiobook. It's
- 4:47great, but it does focus on some people that aren't maybe highlighted as hard
- 4:51in the in the book. So that's also cool. Hm hmm. I
- 4:58noticed that a lot of the Swans, as Capoti referred to these New York
- 5:03socialite women, that there were probably a lot more than the ones that are
- 5:09being focused on in this Ryan Murphy series. Correct, right, Like Jennifer
- 5:15Jones, who is That's how like they get invited out on David O.
- 5:21Selznick's jet with him and his wife Jennifer, like she was kind of a
- 5:26Swan and that's how he got to know babe, and then Jennifer realized she's
- 5:30being replaced like in real life. That's how that went down. So there
- 5:32was a lot of him playing like chess with these women, Yeah, to
- 5:36get to this one in order to get to that one. And right oh
- 5:40man, yeah, and I read that he his IQ was like two hundred
- 5:44and eighteen or something. Yeah, he was super calculated. The other thing
- 5:48is he was never closeted, like he just was like, no, take
- 5:54it, this is what it is. So but I think, like I
- 5:59think think he he could he easily could stay ahead of people. And then
- 6:04he also had to self medicate, I'm sure because his brain was going super
- 6:08fast and was always trying to like maneuver people's thoughts, like in Cold Blood
- 6:16is pretty messed up when you think about like how he manipulated that story and
- 6:21like, you know, people went to prison that shouldn't have probably like I
- 6:27think electrocuted, right exactly, Yeah, because like so I think he was
- 6:32yeah Mary flawed wild, yeah, wild wild wild. Yeah, he died
- 6:42from I mean his liver was obliterated, you know, I mean, yeah,
- 6:46no big surprise in Joanne Carson's home Joanne Carson aka Molly Ringwald. Hell
- 6:55yeah, I mean that's not in the show yet, but yeah, when
- 6:59when But he died right that, Yeah, but that's where he did die.
- 7:02So I wonder if he it's not is it that? No? No,
- 7:05no, I was gonna say, was it that same dinner party Thanksgiving?
- 7:09No, it wasn't because he didn't die for years later. Yeah,
- 7:11he died till eighty four. He also people weren't sure if you're overdosed either,
- 7:15but like on pills or something accidentally. But yep. And then she
- 7:19had his ashes. This is I don't think this is in the book.
- 7:24But she had his ashes, Oh my god, stolen like Sutton. Oh,
- 7:28like Sutton had merses yea. And so Joanne Woodward had Truman Capote's ashes.
- 7:34Yeah, he got stolen at a party. Yeah. And then she's
- 7:38got some back somehow maybe. And now they're both entuned in Westwood Cemetery together.
- 7:47Really yeah, like it says that. I mean, like you can
- 7:51go and visit that mausoleum. It's like a wall unit. Joanne Woodward and
- 7:58no, Joanne car I'm sorry, what do I keep saying? Woodward?
- 8:03Oh that's what it is. Okay, thank you, thank you, Joanne
- 8:09Carson. And I'm already doing it too early into our redcap How dare me?
- 8:15Joanne? Okay, got it? So she and Capoti are in the
- 8:18same mausoleum. What's left of his ashes? Yeah, got it. And
- 8:22then I think some of his ashes are on the East Coast, maybe with
- 8:28Jack's ashes, the man that keeps kind of trying to help, you know,
- 8:33his first lover, so uh yeah. And also and Sutton's first in
- 8:41Barcelona. We'll see some of his ashes being spread next week on Beverly Hills
- 8:46in Barcelona. Truman Capote's ashes will be found on Crystal Minkov's back next week.
- 8:56Yes, wow, I mean this is like, you know, just
- 9:01looking at the casting and then looking at the real people. It is wild
- 9:05to see that these are real women, these you know that were in New
- 9:09York high society. These are real people. I mean, and you know,
- 9:16you made the great point when we were talking about recapping this, which
- 9:20is that Lee you know, is Jackie Onassis's sister and is related to Carol
- 9:30radziwill law. Yeah, mother in law. It was her mother in law
- 9:37because she was that that's closely related. Her son is too. Carol's who
- 9:46she is a that was her husband that died. Wow. Wow, Yeah.
- 9:50I just thought it was like maybe which is why he was so tight
- 9:54with John John, because they were cousins like about same age. Oh wow,
- 10:01wow wow, it remains what remains ashes This week is just all about
- 10:09the ashes, you know, mrsus ashes and oh just so many, so
- 10:15much death anyway, in a lighter note, No, there's no lighter note.
- 10:20It's just I have to acknowledge that when I if you're a tear two
- 10:26darling and you're watching this, you will see what I got to see when
- 10:31I turned on the camera and connected with Emily. But you put on your
- 10:33sunglasses? Oh do you have gloves on? I mean I was like,
- 10:39Emily loves a bit, Emily loves to dress up, and I should have
- 10:45known that she would show up looking like Jackie oh herself, you know,
- 10:50Oh my god, love? Oh Amy? Is that you? Yes?
- 10:52See in my dark full face sunglasses and my white glove just one glove Michael
- 11:00Jackson, the other one high society and by nineteen seventy one piece blouse.
- 11:07Love it. So yeah. But I will say that Slim. I don't
- 11:13know how much Ryan Murphy's going to get into the backstories, but like Babe
- 11:18was like dynamite, gorgeous and like a fashion icon, and so is Slim.
- 11:22But on the West Coast, yes, like yeah, I mean,
- 11:26you know, yeah, watching this, you're thinking, oh, babe,
- 11:28just married wealthy. She was obviously born into money. She stayed in money,
- 11:33but she was like a fashion editor at Vogue. Yeah, and them
- 11:39was uh yeah slim, Like anything she wore than everybody else copied like the
- 11:46next day. That's Diane Lane's character, I mean, the woman she's portraying.
- 11:50So like these gals were sticks a dynamite on their own. Yeah,
- 11:56I mean, and here's what I have to say about that. Look,
- 12:01when you have money, you know what I mean, and you live in
- 12:03those areas, you better be the best dressed anyone's ever seen. If you're
- 12:11in high society. I mean, that's like your job, So turn it
- 12:15out, you know what I mean. Yeah, yeah, I mean,
- 12:18And they did that scene of all of them coming down at Thanksgiving was like,
- 12:22oh cool, best and it was shot kind of like I mean,
- 12:28I did kind of think of housewives a little bit, you know, them
- 12:31coming in to an event or to a dinner or you know, yeah,
- 12:37just they're all they're kaftans and flowies. It just so cool. It's iconic.
- 12:43It's absolutely the fashion, the looks, the hair, the jewelry,
- 12:48the acting is phenomenal. I mean Naomi Watts as Barbara Pally. Yeah,
- 12:54babe, babe, yeah, incredible. I just love and you've always loved
- 13:00her acting, babe. Uh you see babes all, Babe. She's got
- 13:05false teeth. She had false teeth since she was like a teenager a car
- 13:11accident. Oh the of course, that's fright. Yeah, No, I
- 13:13did not put. I saw her when she after she threw up, and
- 13:18then I saw the teeth, and I was like, I wonder why they
- 13:20showed that. Obviously we're supposed to know that she's got false teeth. So
- 13:26well, what Capoti said, you had the car accident and came out better
- 13:28than before. Remember he says that to her cheek bones. Yeah, and
- 13:35but she had to wear dentures the rest of her life. So every morning
- 13:39she put her teeth in quiet like and put a full face and makeup on
- 13:43and then like presented herself. Yeah. I mean this whole time that she's
- 13:48like doing chemo. I mean, and she's laying in bed sick with cancer,
- 13:54full face and makeup, and I don't think that And that's obviously a
- 13:58choice. It's not just big because this is being filmed you know, this
- 14:01is obviously something that she must have done. And I'm thinking, oh my
- 14:03god, Like, if I have a day off, I don't put makeup
- 14:07on, you know, I don't. I don't do it. If I
- 14:09have a day on, sometimes I don't put makeup on. Like she's she
- 14:16and her Yeah, and I'm look at me, look at this hair of
- 14:20mine. It's all over the place. Listen, darlings, But do you
- 14:26notice too, Naomi Watts she I know that she's also from Australia, and
- 14:31sometimes she talks like her mouth forms words like Nicole Kidman's does. I was
- 14:35like, because sometimes it like I don't know what it is. Figure it's
- 14:41an Australian in a American accent. Yeah, she lets it slip here and
- 14:48there. I'm like, come on, come on, you've been doing this
- 14:50long enough. Let's let let's not end your words in an r. Okay,
- 14:54because I see it, I hear it must be the bench that make
- 15:00it difficult, because if she must have fake teeth in, so it must
- 15:03be harder. I would imagine she definitely, I would I'm curious about that.
- 15:07If I think she's probably wearing fake teeth for the show, I would
- 15:09assume, because there's one part where it does look like yeah on the side,
- 15:13uh huh, yeah. I don't like how you know all the housewives
- 15:20look after they get their new teeth. Yeah, the Veneers, the newest
- 15:26Veneers, Oh, the newest. I mean like Karen Huger. She just
- 15:28can't even like talk. She's like she can't even fit. You know,
- 15:33it's crazy. So this whole thing, okay, wow, just where do
- 15:39we start that scene? So a lot of like this whole Bill Pally who
- 15:46works at CBS, Barbara Babes's husband, you know, we sort of like
- 15:52the beginning episode is her opening the door to Truman Capoti and she's like,
- 15:58oh, the mess, and then she tells him what happened and this like
- 16:03scathing affair that her husband was having with who who was this? This was
- 16:11who? I thought she said she's a a Rockefeller, but I couldn't figure
- 16:15out that was the governor's wife. Okay, yeah, okay, so was
- 16:18the governor all happened? Yeah? Wow? Yeah? And then I don't
- 16:27I mean I get that, uh, I don't get all of like it
- 16:33looked like someone was murdered in that room. Okay, girls gotta have a
- 16:40flow you know, and I'm thinking, how did he not notice? Yeah,
- 16:48you know, at least if they were just in the bed, I
- 16:52could see them, not him not noticing. Because the way that they were
- 16:56filming it, you know, they showed that the sheets were kind of up
- 16:59on them. But then on that little poof, you know, on the
- 17:03circular seat, I'm thinking, how did you go from there to the bed
- 17:08and not notice a huge red bloodstain on the white seat. Yeah. Well,
- 17:15they did make a point of turning the lights down low like she did.
- 17:22And I want to say to Ryan Murphy, I forget if he directed
- 17:26this one or whoever did, thank you for having the lights low but not
- 17:30so dark. We can't see what's going on. And I did appreciate that,
- 17:34thank you. I need to see that. But you know, and
- 17:37so it was like, I guess maybe that's what we were supposed to assume,
- 17:44that it was too dark. Yeah, but it was like, wow,
- 17:48a tank. It was a lot. I mean, get the you
- 17:55know, make sure you get the wings, you know with those pads,
- 18:00get super I mean, do what you're gonna do. I guess back then,
- 18:04i'ven like, get forty five sanitary belts and belts yeah, ninety whatever.
- 18:15Yeah, sanitary napkins. It was a lot. So uh that was
- 18:25interesting that they included that. But I was thought it was like a good
- 18:29shocking opener. Oh, great shocking opener, and a great way to frame
- 18:33a man, you know, and to just really put it out there.
- 18:38I mean, it is the ultimate in revenge for whomever God would have not.
- 18:44I never would have thought of that, you know, but now it's
- 18:47going to be in my playbook. So well wait, I mean, like
- 18:51I don't know if she had cervical cancer because also there's that seemed like a
- 18:53symptom of something because it was like massive, so maybe there was something criosis
- 19:00for sure, you know, yeah, there were a lot, so good
- 19:07luck, but I can't wait. Yeah, let me know how it goes.
- 19:14Yeah, she was freaking ruthless. She's like you for your kind of
- 19:18a wife. I was like, wow, we dropped to see you next
- 19:21Tuesday, along with some peria blood all over this white room and him just
- 19:26trying to scrub up after that was just hilarious and like really, yeah,
- 19:33I was actually surprised that he did because then like, like I did know.
- 19:38I thought that he left it, but I thought it was a good
- 19:41touch that they had him like trying trying to clean Yeah, I mean,
- 19:45he wouldn't know what to do. And he's played by Bill Paley's played by
- 19:51Treete Williams. Williams, I know what an unfortunate ending. Did he died
- 20:00the production of this during the production? Oh, I don't because he died
- 20:03in three Oh I think that was during the strike, so maybe not.
- 20:08Yeah, I know he had already round. Okay, pretty positive, but
- 20:15my god, just but listen, way to go out with a bang in
- 20:19this incredible show. And that's every actor's dream. You know, you want
- 20:25to die happy, And in my opinion, he probably did. You want
- 20:29to die happy cleaning up? Period. Yeah, that's going to make a
- 20:32statement. Died doing what he loved, doing what he loved, you know,
- 20:37trauma. I was like, you're needed to shout that out? Magic
- 20:41eraised her bleach. I don't know what, but and I love that.
- 20:45Truman Capoti was like, wait, I don't even know how to do his
- 20:48voice, but he's like, you get a need to do late. It's
- 20:53like that sounds like Eric and Jane. I don't know, but he's more
- 20:56like an Elmer Fudd. Right, you got to high pitch, yeah,
- 21:00really high pitch. Yeah, I can't, but that was like I'm sure
- 21:06if I watch it again, I would be able to. Yeah. It's
- 21:08like very like lazy Tom Hollander, right, Tom Hollander, Tom Hollander and
- 21:21something talking about how he gets Tom he got it, Tom Holland, like
- 21:26bonus check or something like that for Marvel, and he said it just fucking
- 21:32destroyed his weak Are you serious? That's amazing? Yeah, because it was
- 21:38for Marvel doesn't pay. That that's that's shocking to me, because I I
- 21:42mean, that would be what I would assume is that that would be a
- 21:47shocking check to see. But then I also you often hear from actors where
- 21:51they're like, Marvel doesn't pay. When you're Tom Holland, it pays,
- 21:55and you get bonus and you get back end and all this other stuff.
- 21:59I mean, I don't look, I don't even know why I would even
- 22:00say repeat that rumor because whatever quote unquote doesn't pay is probably such a ship
- 22:07ton of money. So who was ever complaining about this in Hollywood? Stop
- 22:10it? Yeah? Yeah, okay, what about that? So this whole
- 22:17all these scenes that take place in this lunch, well this restaurant. It's
- 22:22like, uh, I didn't I don't remember the name of boot La coute
- 22:26Basque or name La Poot. Uh, it's the also the La coute Basque
- 22:33because that's in the Capri room. Yeah, because that's the name of the
- 22:45Esquire. When when that article came out, it was called that that was
- 22:48like a working title for that book that ended up not coming out till after
- 22:53he died. But yeah, which book, the book that so un answered
- 22:57answered prayers? Or yeah, right, that book was supposed to that art
- 23:04that Uh, that was like a tease for the book that was printed in
- 23:07Esquire. Oh my god, that four what is it? Four chapters or
- 23:12four It was some amount of the book that he was writing that he couldn't
- 23:18finish. So they paid Capoti like twenty five thousand dollars to do some excerpts
- 23:25from the book or put some chapters in Esquire. And by god, it
- 23:30destroying that entire friend group of you know, was awful. But to see,
- 23:36like knowing that the writing is on the wall for these women, like
- 23:41how did they not see it coming? When he did that to Anne Woodward?
- 23:45You know what I mean? Like, if somebody does this to this
- 23:48person, they're probably going to do it to you. And then they were
- 23:52so blinded by it because their relationships and their friendships were so deep. I
- 23:56mean they like that. The level of betrayal is just insane. Well,
- 24:03Slim I guess never wanted to confide in him and he would get upset with
- 24:07her and she's like, I just don't trust you. That was that's not
- 24:11in the series. But but Babe was like, you're you know, he
- 24:17never tells my secrets, mean while he told everybody everything all the time.
- 24:22Yeah. Also, like when he came in and is like, I'm going
- 24:26to be your best friend, that's also a big old red flag. Yeah,
- 24:30and he's like hubble zanax, baby, I don't know. Yeah,
- 24:40I can't. I have to Tom Hollander's impression. Yeah, I will be
- 24:47yuh. He was so he's so good because to have that type of voice
- 24:52and to to put on that character that is such a huge character and then
- 24:59keep it grond is like, yeah, that level of acting has to be
- 25:03on point, and he just nailed it because you're taking him seriously, you
- 25:07know, at all points when it could be just a caricature and an impression
- 25:11or whatever, and he just he is it so layered. Yeah, the
- 25:15really good and he moves fast and all that stuff. I lovements his movements,
- 25:22the Trump hip hop and the Trump I'm sorry, but the Truman hip
- 25:27hop pop. Meaning like when Jack came home and he was wasted that first
- 25:33time, he was really drunk, you know, because it like, yeah,
- 25:37shot forward in nineteen seventy five, and Truman was just like kind of
- 25:41wiggling there and dancing, just popping his little Truman hip out. I was
- 25:52dying. So Jack, you probably know who Jack was, because I don't
- 25:57know much about him. Was Jack his life longtime partner? Yeah, and
- 26:03writer? He was another author, but like I think they were together for
- 26:07like decades. Wow, Yeah, but I don't think that they I mean
- 26:12they were out within their circle obviously, but not like I think that was
- 26:17a time when it was just kind of people didn't say gay. They just
- 26:23said confirmed bachelor forever. Yes, yes, how about speaking of that because
- 26:32they didn't say gay. And the the F word term that Ann Woodward threw
- 26:40around in that restaurant was not that scene when Demi Moore aka and Woodward was
- 26:47sitting there staring at them having lunch, and He's like she's looking at me,
- 26:53and they're like, oh, Truman, of course she is. You're
- 26:56going to run into her, you know, you just ignore her. And
- 26:59then the next thing, you know, Demi Moore comes in for the kill,
- 27:02and it's just like questioning, why did he Why is he going to
- 27:07write this book and say that she killed her husband, calling her bang bang
- 27:14Even before that she knew she because she just hid her from everybody. That
- 27:18he was running around town gossiping and saying that and up in the air too
- 27:23or no, no, no, he was at that dinner party. Yeah,
- 27:27the first dinner party that they have him meeting Babe and Bill and he's
- 27:33like, tell us something you don't know, and he's like, here it
- 27:37is so, I mean he's basically is he like, is Kyle the modern
- 27:44day Capodi? I mean yeah, yeah, that's a great line to draw
- 27:56there. Yeah, So that was crazy that he was friends with Anne Woodward.
- 28:03And I wasn't one hundred percent sure why she killed or why she allegedly
- 28:07killed her husband. Did you get anything on that. I don't know that
- 28:12backstory that well at all, So don't I don't really know, but I
- 28:18mean I did know that she was that it did drive her to end her
- 28:25life his story, so so in that Esquire article, he must have gone
- 28:30with that storyline of her killing her husband and it being covered up by the
- 28:38mother because they didn't want to, you know, hurt the children, right,
- 28:42And I don't know, like he he, you know, I don't
- 28:47know if it was real or not real or I have to assume that there
- 28:49was some truth in it because she was really but also like, I don't
- 28:56think she felt like running around trying to defend yourself her whole life either.
- 28:59But I like that was not fair to do to her. But I don't
- 29:03know much about that whole The Woodward story, well, that was for her
- 29:10to be like, I didn't call you the F word. I called you
- 29:15like whatever, something way way worse, and for him to say she was
- 29:22like, why did you do this? And why did you do this?
- 29:25And he was like, I liked you. I'm not going to do the
- 29:27voice. But he's like, I liked you, but I heard you calling
- 29:30me an F word, so I thought I'd be an F word and do
- 29:33what an F word can do when he's angry. I was like, oh
- 29:37my gosh, the vengeance. So you know, maybe he was doing it
- 29:41just to hurt her, and it actually wasn't true. Yeah. I mean
- 29:47he had a very very messed up relationship with his mom and so you can't
- 29:52help. But who's played by Jessica Lang? My spirit excited to see her?
- 29:56Yeah, And so I because when when all this was coming, when
- 30:03the show is being promoted, I was like, no, I want Jessica.
- 30:06I mean, if it's Ryan Murphy, I need kind of Jessica Lange.
- 30:08Yeah, but then going to get Jessica yeah, little and I saw
- 30:11her, Yeah, and it's perfect because that seems like who she was.
- 30:17Oh god when she yeah, when she came to him, she's his mother.
- 30:23So all that to say, like I don't know, with Anne Woodward
- 30:26and all these women, like I think they were all I don't. I
- 30:30think it was all doomed because he was just trying to recreate this relationship with
- 30:33his mom, you know, which wasn't gonna work. M But he even
- 30:41even when he was totally accepted, he just didn't even believe it because he
- 30:45had all these abandonment issues with his mother and like she hated that he was
- 30:52gay, and like there was just all kinds of shaming and hating him and
- 30:57like he was just not going to be in and I think that's he would
- 31:00just sabotage these relationships. Then that totally makes sense. Oh that's so heartbreaking.
- 31:07Yeah, will you allow me to do my Jessica Lang monologue from this
- 31:12show. We'll allow it, the court will allow it. Thank you.
- 31:21Okay. This is when she appears to him at house because Molly's there and
- 31:32uh so you see her back and her zipper's undone, and she says,
- 31:36m woa, ship me up. So son, you got fat, didn't
- 31:45you. You you're so beautiful, but you got soft. You've done the
- 31:55work. You did it all for me, the breath you avenged me.
- 32:01Of course, all those people have wanted to be part of they had no
- 32:08time for me, just like your swap that was great. Is those where
- 32:27who will Trueman? Yeah? So you know, hopefully we'll get somewhere of
- 32:37those. We'll see. Oh we have to, we have to. Yeah,
- 32:42we better. Yeah. I mean she's playing a ghost, so she
- 32:45could come in and out of anything. Ryan Murphy at any point, he's
- 32:52like, make make Jessica a ghost. I don't care who, but just
- 32:55make her a ghost in every series. Oh Ryan, you thank you whoa
- 33:09so Babe and Truman do become best friends? Uh, and he just basically
- 33:17they're just off to the races. He meets does John O'shay character in the
- 33:23Bathhouse who has such a huge part in his life. Which is this a
- 33:29real character? Yeah, a real person? Okay? Wow? Yeah.
- 33:34I mean, and I don't know too much about him, but I do
- 33:37know that he was abusive. I'm pretty sure that I think that, but
- 33:43I think that there were other people in his life that were like physically abusive
- 33:47in terms of like lovers or serious relationships. But yeah, I think it
- 33:53was Wow, but it kind of is part for the course in terms of
- 33:59what he would seek out, you know, yes, absolutely. Well.
- 34:02I mean that lunch when he brings him to the Swans and is like,
- 34:07you know, he's gonna be my manager or whatever. After the Bathhouse and
- 34:13like wow, that was that escalated quickly, and they're like, don't don't
- 34:16be stupid, Truman, you know, like don't don't do this, Like
- 34:21what are you doing? I mean, at least they're trying to call him
- 34:22out on not making bad decisions in his life. But it's because I think
- 34:28that they really did love him. Yeah, Like they that's why it was
- 34:30so sad because he had there, he had all their attention, all of
- 34:37their love what he didn't have from his mom. And they really truly did.
- 34:42They treated him better than their kids in a lot of situations, and
- 34:46he just like couldn't get it. He couldn't receive it. No, a
- 34:52tale as old as time, you know, a song as old as rhyme,
- 35:02Beauty and the Beast, There you go, there you go. Well,
- 35:08when Babe and Bill basically after this Esquire explosion and they're just sitting there
- 35:16trying to like figure out what the hell happened, the explosion of Truman Capoti
- 35:21in their lives, and Babe says, I don't know what's worse. You
- 35:23are betrayal or Truman's betrayal, you know, because she did say, which
- 35:29I loved at the beginning, because he was like, what do you care
- 35:30about him? You don't really love him? And she's like, that's true.
- 35:34How can he hurt me? You're the only one who could truly hurt
- 35:37me because I really love you. And that is so true, I mean,
- 35:43much like why I mean, this is a Southern charm reference. But
- 35:49Olivia didn't give Taylor a chance again. Well, Taylor was the one that
- 35:53really hurt her because she held that relationship in higher regard, whereas Austin and
- 36:00couldn't hurt her as much because she expected that from him, you know,
- 36:02just a little bravo. Yeah, it's all little bravo. No, but
- 36:06that I thought. And then later when Slim was saying like this betrayal hurts
- 36:13worse, like the betrayal of your female friends hurts worse than their divorces,
- 36:20I thought, oh, yeah it was. It was kind of Truman as
- 36:24that, yes, yeah, yeah. Well Slim comes up with the plan
- 36:30after this article comes out and they get together and she's like, we're gonna,
- 36:36you know, we're gonna take him down. Essentially, we're going to
- 36:39dranks and ice am out, ice am ount, gonna not answer his calls,
- 36:45We're not going to return you know, his notes. And they said
- 36:47they were gonna what friend Bill Blast, because that was the escort he always
- 36:52took places or something. They're refusing to film with him, and they're going
- 36:57to bring their friend of the show in. Yeah, that's it. Yeah
- 37:05Bill Blast? Do you remember Bill Blast? I should do so. I
- 37:09had no idea about that. I mean that connection's wild. So to hear
- 37:13that old saying, it's that old saying, that old designer, I was
- 37:15like, oh my god. Yeah, Capoti starts to like do some acting
- 37:22in Hollywood and he is a disaster because he's just basically a drunk at this
- 37:27point, and that scene was terrible. But have you seen that movie or
- 37:30that scene? No, what is it? It's death by murder? I
- 37:35think right, death by murder. I wrote it down because I wanted to
- 37:38because I have seen that scene and it is very creepy, especially when you
- 37:44juxtapose it with his actual life. Yeah, I think it's murder by death
- 37:50one of the two. Okay, it is kind of iconic too, that
- 37:53scene in a campy way. Yeah, in a can't be way because it
- 37:59like I have not seen that movie. I have just watched that scene,
- 38:05but yeah, it is. I mean they edited it well in terms of
- 38:09the film because you don't know how badly he was going up on his line
- 38:14all that. So okay, So now Capote's kind of trying to pour out
- 38:22his liquor and kind of get better. But that doesn't last for very long.
- 38:28But Slim visits babe, and they're just hanging out because she's going through
- 38:34chemo now and she's sick and she's comforting her and now her husband, Babe's
- 38:38husband, Bill is really like being there for her and is taking care of
- 38:44her. And I love the line by Babe that says to Bill in that
- 38:47moment, why don't you make yourself useful and learn how to make welsh rabbit
- 38:51for your grandkids when I'm gone before you find your next wife. Like that
- 38:55not the greatest sentence in the world. He's like, yeah, yeah,
- 39:05welsh rabbit. And we finally get to see Callista Flockhart as Lee Rabville Yes
- 39:15in the second episode, which was great, and she joins the table.
- 39:22You know, she basically replaces Capodi because this was at the funeral. It
- 39:27was after the funeral of Anne of Anne right right right, because she means
- 39:32self yeah, and I will say, Babe, I mean she dies in
- 39:38nineteen seventy eight, so I mean, oh wow, Yeah, that happened
- 39:45fast. Yeah. So I'm I guess like I'm hoping there's more flashbacks because
- 39:52I want to see Demi Moore and more. I want to know too,
- 39:54I want to see, Yeah, there has to be or else what are
- 39:59we going to be doing? We can't just yeah, we're doing we can't.
- 40:05I mean, i'd like all I want to just see all of them
- 40:07have their moments with Truman where you think, like, oh, they really
- 40:13cared about him. I want to see all each of their moments and then
- 40:15ye see a lot of them. We're definitely seeing Babe's story with Truman,
- 40:20but we haven't seen Anne's. And I think you're right, maybe there will
- 40:22be a lot of room for us to see old scenes of Truman and and
- 40:27together and supposedly Babe was his number one. Wow, and it's and it's
- 40:34well known how like how that ends? But I won't say it in case
- 40:39you don't know it and don't want to know if they reconcile or not.
- 40:44Okay, yeah, I don't know, and I guess I'll just wait as
- 40:49long as I can. Yeah, five minutes later, Oh my gosh,
- 40:53I know, five minutes later. So but oh okay. So c Z
- 41:00is the first one to really break the but the plan against which she was
- 41:06kind of her plan, which is hilarious. It was perfect housewives. Oh
- 41:10but she laid out like this is what we're gonna do. Don't be you
- 41:15know, like, let's be strong and then immediately like, no, it
- 41:19was different, Raquel. No, Slim is the one who made the plan,
- 41:24and CZ is the one who broke it is Chloe. Yeah, I
- 41:30thought Chloe made the plan, but I guess you're right it was Slim,
- 41:32but it was both of them together. I guess, oh, maybe it
- 41:36was both of them together. Yeah, yeah, But I mean she was
- 41:39definitely on board, and they were very on board about it, like everybody
- 41:43was on board right right, Well except for Babe. She was like,
- 41:46I'm going back to the bathroom forget this. So so Slim visits CZ and
- 41:52she was like, oh, because she has lunch with Truman and and and
- 42:00then he's like it's just a book, come on, Society's Worth Exposing and
- 42:05she's like no. And then Lee Radsville walks in. I was going to
- 42:09say it like Luanne, and it's like huh. And then she just got
- 42:15totally busted. But I'm like, why are you going to the lunch place
- 42:17that you bitches go to every single day? Like what do you expect?
- 42:22Yeah? I wish that they would have shown that as more of a move
- 42:25on Cees's part, like I'm going to test the waters and I'm going to
- 42:30do this in a very public It's because it was kind of like going to
- 42:32like a very a couple of years ago would be like having a public meeting
- 42:37at the Ivy or something like that. Right, yeah, exactly what you
- 42:42were doing. So that's what it kind of felt like. But I didn't
- 42:45think it was just like a naive thing to meet there. That was too
- 42:50weird. Yeah, totally. Yeah. So Slim calls her out and she's
- 42:54like, you had lunch with a trader And then she's like, you cannot
- 42:58invite him to Thanksgiving. So Cez like fakes the flu and says that she
- 43:04can't get together. So now he's not coming. I wasn't sure about this
- 43:07going down to Miami or something for Thanksgiving. I'm not sure. Were they
- 43:13all in Miami? Were they still in New York for Thanksgiving? Were in
- 43:15that big house? I think it was, Yeah, I think it was
- 43:19Florida that they were okay too, But man, and then he gets invited
- 43:23to Joanne Carsns Molly Molly Ringwolds, Johnny Carson's second Wife's house, right right,
- 43:35And they were well divorced by then, well divorced, you can tell.
- 43:40Yeah, but Capoti was friends with her. Since the sixties, so
- 43:44his time, he knew he knew a lot about that marriage because he was
- 43:50like he was in the mix. Oh man, did he ever exploit she
- 43:52and Johnny Carson? I don't know. It doesn't seem like it, but
- 43:59like you know, I was talking shit about them, and he Johnny Carson
- 44:02was so private, he probably yeah. I mean, that would be an
- 44:07unbelievable Like I can't believe he was in there because yeah, Johnny Carson,
- 44:14I can imagine and was probably has a lot of nightmare stories about him.
- 44:19About Johnny Carson, yeah, I would think, And maybe also he just
- 44:24he wasn't around him very much, but he would know everything through Johnny's wife,
- 44:30So yeah, yeah, wow. So he didn't betray her, I
- 44:35don't. I don't think so. And if he did, she was alright
- 44:38with it. Interesting, Yeah, maybe maybe he knew there'd be a lawsuit
- 44:47involved with that one because he's such a public figure. I don't know,
- 44:52but back then it felt like people didn't do that. They did, like
- 44:58they just kind of like with indiscretions and that kind of thing, they were
- 45:02just like ignore it and make it go away. But I don't know,
- 45:07because it is interesting that he wasn't sued, but then he was also like,
- 45:10well, if it's true, you can't right, it's not defamation if
- 45:17it's actually true. Yeah, And at the end of the day, I
- 45:21don't think any of those people wanted a big discovery going on about them.
- 45:24They're going to like leave it dormant, They're going to bury it. Yeah.
- 45:29Right. But the Thanksgiving, the comparison of the two Thanksgivings was really
- 45:35awesome because you see him so cool. Wasn't it just how far he's fallen
- 45:40to just a regular Thanksgiving and a regular person's house for the most part,
- 45:45and then the just extraordinary wealth of the place that he was supposed to go
- 45:50to with all those people and he's no longer there. Well, it was
- 45:53also interesting because there was so much like kind of like turning your nose down,
- 46:00like it was just like up to Hollywood money then and new money,
- 46:05and that was old money. Yeah, so it wasn't even like Joey and
- 46:08Carson was like, I mean, she was rich, rich, but it
- 46:13was nowhere to compare, nothing to compare to what he was used to,
- 46:17what he had basically gotten used to. Yeah right, Yeah, although he
- 46:22did I think have a room in her home. He had two rooms.
- 46:24He had his writing room and his guests that were his rooms. So he
- 46:30did spend a lot of time slumming it up there. Wow yeah, wow,
- 46:37wow wow. Well let's see, Bill says, Oh, every single
- 46:45time Jack tries to get Babe to come back and help or you know,
- 46:51make up with Truman, she just refuses. She's really standing by her commitment
- 46:57to ice him out and she is not forgiven him. Yeah, no comment,
- 47:06no spoilers, Okay, all spoilers, all spoilers all day. Well,
- 47:15certainly she will probably be the one to die first. I would imagine,
- 47:22Well, he dies in eighty four. And when did she die?
- 47:24Seventy eight? Seventy eight? Okay, so so my prediction was right,
- 47:30No rewind Wow all though, good at this. Did you see how I
- 47:38took the year from earlier in the episode and I made it my own my
- 47:44own prediction. Yeah? So, and the article came out in seventy five
- 47:51seventy five? Yeah okay, yeah, the pre novel yeah wild. So
- 48:00what other thoughts do you have about the first two episodes that we've just now
- 48:04seen. I love the opening credits. If you haven't watched watch them.
- 48:08They are so creative and like different unexpected little animations and it's really neat to
- 48:19watch. And I love all the dishes, Like I don't know where they
- 48:24got those dishes, because some of that stuff is I mean, they must
- 48:30I know Chris Jenner collects and like vintage and antique dinner sets and I'm like,
- 48:36I dorow I do. Thanks for bringing it up, Honny. Yeah,
- 48:42because they are full prinets. Yeah, and they are set and they
- 48:45are so delicate and they're such China China. They're so their bone China.
- 48:54Yeah. Yeah, but who's bones, I ask you? O bones bones?
- 49:02Yeah? But yeah, I love the sets, I love the costumes.
- 49:13I pretty much love everything about this. It is each scene is like
- 49:19a nice, beautiful, well like thought through capsule of time and take everybody
- 49:25out. I'm like, oh my gosh, they thought of everything. Yeah,
- 49:29there's not some pirates from the nineties sitting on the table like they've covered
- 49:34it. They did it. Who's your favorite Swan Babe? Yeah, because
- 49:38that was his favorite, because it's his favorite. Yeah, I like everything
- 49:44he likes. No, I just do like Babe a lot because well,
- 49:50so far, so far. Yeah, because we're gonna see some more we're
- 49:52gonna get Oh boy, Monica Geller up in this piece. Well, there
- 50:00were so many Like I I like, I really didn't expect that we would
- 50:06get so much c Z so I that's but I'm like, I'm kind of
- 50:10open to whatever. I know, like like Churchill's daughter in laws in the
- 50:16mixing. Oh right, that would make sense. Yeah, but yeah,
- 50:22Like I'm just I'm just waiting to see what Ryan gives us. Oh,
- 50:28he just gives and gives and gives, giving Swan, and I'm giving Swan.
- 50:32I did not watch all the credits. Is Brad Falchuk involved with us?
- 50:37I would assume, but I didn't watch the closing credits, Okay,
- 50:40and honestly there was I wasn't watching. I watched the opening credits, but
- 50:45I was just staring at the animation and the like the names were staying with
- 50:50I always like to get involved in the credits when I see them, and
- 50:53that is one credit sequence I will probably never fast forward because I like,
- 50:59it's such a treat hmmm hmm, like that it's in the same style as
- 51:05the other feud with Joan Crawford and Betty Davis. That was amazing. Oh
- 51:10God, we're going to continue to recap it. So, and I think
- 51:16there's either eight or six episodes, do you know, gosh, I don't
- 51:21know. That's a good question. The first two are out, but you
- 51:23said on FXA and then the next day. Yeah, so it'll be every
- 51:29Thursday that it comes out. Yeah, okay, this is so wait,
- 51:34okay, what day is Wenday? No, it's Thursday. So it's every
- 51:37Wednesday Wednesday night unless you went to wait till Hulu, unless you want to
- 51:42wait till Thursday. Yeah, there you go. Okay, Well this was
- 51:45really fun. Take your xen X baby. Next week. We're gonna have
- 51:51a Capote voice for you. We're gonna have other credits for you. You
- 51:55know, we're just getting into we're just getting our feet wet. Yeah.
- 52:00If I'm sure we can figure out Nicole Kidman and that'll get us to Naomi
- 52:04Watts. There you go. Okay, Well, this is an example of
- 52:12a bonus episode or an extra episode you'd get over on my Patreon. Putting
