- 0:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we're in Nashville today.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: That was a nice intro.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Well, it's kind of the truth.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: You're such a talented artist.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: Well, thank you very much.

- 0:51SPEAKER_02: We need to get you down under.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, so we want to ask because we when we were doing a bit of research on YouTube, we we discovered that your album is called Podunk.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the EP was right.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: Sorry, what we have no idea what it means.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: I I was actually saying it wrong, I was saying podunk.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: That's a better way of saying that.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure anybody actually knows what the word means.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: I think that's kind of the point.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: Like no one knows where it is or what it is.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: Where it is?
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Is it a location?
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Well.
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: It's just where no one it's it's uh it's just an unknown uh place.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: You might need to describe where a bunch of unknown people are at.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Can you use put podunk in a sentence, please?
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Podunk.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: In a sense.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: Um let's go to a bunch of podunkery.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Describe what you would do if you said that.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Or give us an example.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: I'll give you a little bit of example.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: It wasn't long ago when I moved here.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: So I'm from a town of 300.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: What's the town called?
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: Toadsuck.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: One more time for us.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Damn it.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: It's Toad Suck.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Toadsuck?
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: D-O-A-D.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: Wait, so tell us more about this town.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Um, that's pretty much all there is.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: There's a there's a we have a gas station and a bridge.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: And there's toads there?
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Oh, sure.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's lots of them.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: There's toads everywhere.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: I think these, I think in this one, in this instance, they're referring to the uh people that live there.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: So I'm from that town, and I uh not just want to go here in Nashville.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: I have some buddies that are like, uh like I hang out with all these like musicians, and they're like, you want to go golfing?
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: I'm like, not really.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: Uh y'all and I was like, you want to go like shoot a propane tank or something?
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: And they're like, you can't say that or do that.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Wait, why can't you wait?
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Where's the propane tanks?
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: Oh, all over the place.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: So you're just shooting, and then they're blowing up.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's like a um, yeah, if you in if you go to the closest Walmart to us, there's like a section of propane tanks sitting right out front.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: In the car park?
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: No, out there, just out in the front of the store, but it's it's just so people know.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: Like, everybody knows that those are those ones that you're supposed to shoot.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: Nobody's gonna use those for their grill or anything.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: So they are like they're I I'm not really sure what they are.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: They're like barbecue gas cylinders that you put underneath the barbecue.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: And you shoot those.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: Out in a field.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, or yeah, whatever you choose to do with said barbecue tank.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Sometimes you like to put them like in a washer or something and then shoot them just to watch the washer blow up.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: Wait, you put them in a what?
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: You know, like in a washing machine.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, a washing machine.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, a washing machine.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: So you're just blowing everything up, basically.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: That's some podunk shit right there.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: That is some podunk shit.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Also, like if you go through that song, the we have a song called Podunk Shit.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: When you go through the song, yeah, there's a lot of stories, and all of them are very uh very true.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: For for for someone who hasn't heard the song, what what are one of the stories?
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, well, we used to my my brother to this day, he gets tattooed by his neighbor uh often.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: And uh, or um we had a uh in high school, we had a little fight ring.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: People would always fight in high school.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Like we're getting you had a fight ring in your high school?
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: Not in it, but from it.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: But like people would get mad at each other and so they'd want to fight.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: And I weaker I grew up like working on this little farm.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: And so we'd all go meet down there, and me and my buddy realized we could sell tickets.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: We started selling tickets.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: You're an entrepreneur.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: We were killing it.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: We were killing it.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: But a cop came down there one day and uh we thought he was just gonna shut us down and we're gonna all get in trouble.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: But he just came down there and joined.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: It was actually he did join.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: There was this dude though that was like got held back like six times, I think.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: He was like a grown-ass man.
- 4:49SPEAKER_03: And he was just beating the hell out of all these kids down there.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: Like he was always winning.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: He's the champion.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: And this cop came down there and just took his belt off and wore him out.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: He had a belt, like a cut like a police, he had his gun on him and all that stuff, and he just like dropped it and he got in the ring.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: Went there and beat that dude to death.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, I thought you meant like that the the old high schooler had like a WWE belt.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: And I was like, there was a title going away.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Did you ever get in the ring or you were just selling tickets?
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Sorry, in Australia we don't we don't have the term podunk.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: We podunk.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: Po dunk.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: Po dunk.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: We we have the term bogan.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: So like a bogan is like a redneck.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: And so you would do like bogan shit.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I was gonna say, you're I mean, I know you'll get you have the people.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: We do have people.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, but obviously not not so much shooting.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: More like they'll like drive like they're like old ute, like the old trucks.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: And like go to like a ute master and like a lot of shooting in Australia?
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Not so much.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: There's a bit like hunting and things like that, but it's not as big of a thing, I would say.
- 5:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah well, you know, gun safety is a real good thing to practice for.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: You're talking about um your show last night.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: There was uh a strange element to it.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: Oh, there's a lot of strange elements.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: We went out to Kingston Springs.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Where is that?
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Is that in Tennessee or it is.
- 6:15SPEAKER_03: It's how far is that from here?
- 6:16unknown: 45 minutes.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: 45 minutes from here.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: And it was gonna be it's it was a great day, but it was like just gonna be this little festival thing we're doing.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: And um, of course, the weather made all the plans change.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: Um and so we moved it down the road just mid mid-show.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: They tore that stage down and shoved it in this old like abandoned brick building.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: And it was like kind of creepy.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: There wasn't they had lights that were hung up, but like running on a generator outside, like real dull lights.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: And then um, of course, it's ran real bad, so like nobody comes over there.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: There was probably like ten people in there.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: And it's just abandoned house.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: And it's like abandoned like warehouse kind of thing.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: And uh, I mean, I was we are we were getting paid, so I was like, I'm we're gonna play anyway.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: And so we uh did like four of the songs we were gonna do, and then we just turned it into like karaoke.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: No.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: A dude came up and played bongos.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: And he was actually rocking.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: Dude, awesome.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Are you gonna bring um bongos into the into the band, maybe?
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: I was never thinking about it until now.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: But here we are.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: But give the people what they want, you know?
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: And bongos is it.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: People want bongos.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: They do.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: What was the best karaoke song?
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: Um what's your go-to karaoke song?
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: My go-to karaoke song?
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: Probably Do you just sing your own songs?
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: Anything about Creed.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: I love some Creed.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: Or I don't know, Molly Korean.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: I'll go wherever.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: Pink Pony Club.
- 7:47SPEAKER_03: My son taught me that one.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, that's bang up.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: My dad caught me.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: This is what started my whole music career.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: Is my dad caught me.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: Karaoke.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: Uh kind of.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say pink pony club.
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: My dad was outside of the door when I was like five years old in the shower singing, man, I feel like a woman.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: No way.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Banging on the door saying, Please, anything else.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: Sing something else.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: So what then you started writing songs?
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he was like, he was like, boys got a gift.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: Who introduced you to country music?
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, my family.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: All of them.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: Well surrounded by it grown-up.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Are they all musically talented as well?
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Um my mom can sing very well.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: My um I have a cousin here in Nashville that writes songs and is a very good musician.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: Um, and then my dad, not so much.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: My brother's good.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: On my dad's side, it's very weird.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: Time to have the family band.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: No.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: I do have two.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Do you three?
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: Three.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: And they do you think they Oh yeah.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: One of them especially.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: One of them's uh What makes you think that?
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, I know it.
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: Uh she they grew up and sing, man.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah?
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: And like very early age, like even when she was like before right before she turned two, I feel like we heard her like humming, like on key.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: I was like looking at my wife, like, ooh.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: I'll just maybe I should just step back.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: Just be a waiter.
- 9:09SPEAKER_03: You know what wait, you know what a waiter is?
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you just wait for somebody to get rich, like your family.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Oh no, no.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: I've only been like a waiter, like a little server a waiter.
- 9:18SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, yeah, we call it too, but no, I mean like a waiter.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: Like your waiter.
- 9:24SPEAKER_03: A lot of buddies that in high school that had like rich families.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: We always call them waiters.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: We're like, what are you gonna do after high school?
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: And they'd be like, Dad's not doing too good.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: It's love.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: Times are tough in um in Toad Todsuck.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: The gas station only has so many positions to be filled, you know?
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: Do that or a fight ring, and you it's got all you got going for you down there.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: When did you move to Nashville?
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: Uh about two years ago, no?
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, not too long ago.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: Where were you living before?
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Still in Todsuck.
- 9:57SPEAKER_03: No, I um I left there and went to uh a little town uh in Louisiana called St.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: Francisville.
- 10:03SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 10:03SPEAKER_03: It was a town of 1500 where I met my wife.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: Can you tell us something that your your family have bribed you to do?
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, m uh music.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: Well, just yeah, music.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: They bribed you to do it?
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Pretty much.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: I say bribed me, more forced me to do it.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: I look back now, I'm so thankful, but at the time I was so mad at him.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: Like, my dad, he'd bring me like a bingo parlor or something.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: He'd take you to a bingo parlor.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I'd be like, this is weird.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: And then there'd be like a bunch of old people in there playing bingo, and he'd like reach behind and pull a guitar up, like, get up for kick me up here and be like, play a song for a buddy.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: Force they forced me to do it so many times when I was younger.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: We'd like go to watch a show and I didn't know it was like an open mic night, and I'd always be looking around, see if my dad brought the guitar with him.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: And I'd think, I'm safe.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I'm good, I'm just eating he'd be like, just kidding, here's guitar.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: What's something that your mom's brought you to do?
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I was so when I got out of high school, I wanted to go to Alaska and get on a fishing boat.
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: I uh I had I had known a few knew a few guys who did that and they made like so much money so fast.
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: But it was dangerous, I guess.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: And um, like it was probably why you got paid so much.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: But um, my mom was like, Well, please don't do that.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: And she heard about a songwriting camp in Louisiana.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: And um How old were you, sorry?
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: Uh 17 or 18, 18, I think.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: Probably 18.
- 11:23SPEAKER_03: I don't think I got out of high school early by any means.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: I was there longer than I should have been, not Georgia.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: But um she was like, uh, just go to this thing was only three days.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: And I was like, no, I'm good, I don't really want to do that.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: But um, she was like, she was like, if you'll just go do that, I'll pay for everything for you to get to Alaska.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: And I didn't have any money, I don't know how I was gonna get to Alaska anyways.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: So I was like, yes, good idea, mom.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: And uh I went down there, supposed to be just three days and go home.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: I never came back.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: I went down there, did the songwriting camp, and uh my wife was in there and we wrote a song for her in the songwriting class.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: It was her birthday.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: She was real good looking.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: I was even better looking.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: She was she was broken, her and I had to help her.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: So I just got to work after it, you know, and did you have a line or pickup line?
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, so many.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: What's your go-to?
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: I don't know if I have a pickup line.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: Let's get it.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: Surely I could make one up right now.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: You can make one up.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Um hey girl.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: No, I don't know.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: I didn't I don't think I had a pickup line necessarily.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: How did you approach that?
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: Uh well, we're in that class and um it was a lot of older people.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: But and it was just me and her.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: She was forced to be there too, by her uh aunt.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: And uh we were just sitting there and she was talking about some of her issues in life or whatever, and I was just like so suave.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: I was like, Oh, have you ever thought about this?
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: She was like, Wow, how deep.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you bonded.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we bonded.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: And then we really bonded and had a bunch of kids after we got married.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: And uh Wait, so you say you never came back, so once you went to the songwriting, you then moved.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: I I w I was there those three days, and I drove I got in my truck, drove home just like just to go back home, I guess.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: And I got out of my truck and I was like, nope, and got back in it, drove back immediately.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: I was I wasn't home for like a day.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: And I um you know, where I grew up is hilarious, and we did a lot of fun, crazy stuff.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: But also there's the like there's the other side of like in a small town like that, there's not much to do.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: Drugs ended up being real fun and alcohol, and and you know, you just found you try to, I guess, uh I don't know, numb yourself or just try to have a good time.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: And uh a lot of my buddies were passing away or getting in a lot of trouble, and I was right there with them.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: And I think I just got back and I was like, no, I like that place was so wholesome and good, and I was like, life can be really good.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: So I just got back in my truck and left.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: And then and then you what just drove to your wife's house?
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: No, I drive back and uh I pulled up.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: I was uh I was kind of stupid.
- 14:04SPEAKER_03: I am stupid, but I was even stupider then.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: I feel like yeah, a lot of people will relate to that.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: And uh I I pulled up, I drove, I pulled up, and I was like, I'm here.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: Uh and they were like, what are you doing?
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: I was like, I don't uh I was like, I don't you know, I don't really actually know what I'm doing.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: Where am I gonna stay?
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: I had a camper shell in the back of my truck.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: I was like, I guess I can stay in there.
- 14:27SPEAKER_03: Uh and uh Lexi's uh aunt was like, I'll rent you a cabin.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: And they had these little one-room cabins, it was like a it was like a bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom, all in one room.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I'll do that.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: But uh I had a little money saved up and I was like, that's not gonna last all that long.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: So she gave me a little job at their local coffee shop, uh-huh.
- 14:46SPEAKER_03: Which I don't know anything about coffee or serving people.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: Do you now?
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: Um we actually few years down the road bought that coffee shop.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: No way!
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and no, I don't know anything about that.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: Nothing.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: Make sure we head down there.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: My wife, my wife's the coffee lady.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: She ran that place.
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: It was crazy.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: She did a great job.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, but we uh I stayed in that cabin and was somehow they were just, I guess, allowing me to work at that coffee shop because I didn't need to be working there.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: Um and then uh hanging out with my wife's family a lot.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: At the time too, my wife wasn't hanging out with her family all that much.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: But I was hanging out with her family and I was like, these people are badass.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: I love all of them very much.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: And she was like, Why do you like my family so much?
- 15:29SPEAKER_03: I was like, because they're great.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: And then she started hanging out with her family.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: I like to say I mended the whole thing, you know.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty awesome.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: And do you guys write songs together now?
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Sometimes.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: Uh now we have a lot of kids and she's full-time mommy.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: Uh she comes on, she less writing now, there's more, she comes and sings with me.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: She's she does all my harmonies on all my records and that's so cute.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Speaking of, can we talk about your new album coming out the 28th of August?
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: What was the wrote writing process behind it?
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Because I know your EP, I kind of read that it was more about like your wild side, whereas this new album is a lot more family-oriented.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's family-oriented, and it's like uh you know, the writing process was so we got I came to Nashville.
- 16:16SPEAKER_03: I was writing like before Nashville, I was writing like maybe three or four songs a year.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: And I come to Nashville in the first year, I think I wrote 80 something.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: Like and like got after it.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: It was the first time I ever wrote with anybody too, like other than my wife, and I got to really like you know, writing with people's been so cool because we like we live life in a straight line, you know, and and we see things from the way we see them.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: It's really cool to no wonder you get stuck when you're writing, you know, because there's just sometimes there's things you don't even in your own life that you don't really understand or know how to um explain to other people, which I think is what writing songs is, is just r explain to other people the way you think or feel.
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: And so it's been really cool to have other people around to see your life from a different perspective and can pop you right over the top of a of a block.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: But I um no, I don't know.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: I I don't know how to write about things I don't know.
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: I don't know how to make up I know how to make up stories.
- 17:05SPEAKER_03: I mean I won't say that.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: I won't say I don't know how to do that.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: I'm really good at that.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: But uh well I'll tell a fib.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: I'll tell a lie, dude, so fast.
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: I'm just kidding.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: Um what's the best white lie you told?
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, dude, so many.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, have you ever seen the size of the fish I catch?
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: Huge.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: There's blue pin.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: One of them tipped the boat over the other day.
- 17:28SPEAKER_03: Trying to get it in.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: No, but uh, I've never been like it's it's hard for me to write about things I don't know about.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: And so we just uh started writing about what we do know.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: And uh at first getting into town, of course, everybody wants to know what the hell happens in Totsuck.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: And so that's what I tell them, and that's where a lot of that EP came from, is talking about you know where I come from and the wild stuff we did, and then um that slowly morphed into like they realized I don't want to go out to bars super late at night and hang out all the time, and uh I'm not a big fan of golfing.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so I can understand that.
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so we they're like, What are you?
- 18:01SPEAKER_03: Who are you?
- 18:02SPEAKER_03: And um, I mean, we just started I I they asked me that too.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: I was like, it's like an epiphany.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: I was like, I don't know who who am I?
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: What am I?
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: And I do feel different and weird sometimes, but uh really learning that up, I'm just a family guy.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: That's what I like.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: A family dude.
- 18:19SPEAKER_03: I like my kids, I like my wife, I don't like it in as much trouble as I used to.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Not as much blowing up things.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Still do it every once in a while.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: You catch me, you catch me jumping over a fire every once in a while.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Jumping over it.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: Don't do that.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Do it?
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Not really in my city girls.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, very much.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: Oh god, well, what are you wearing that hat for?
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: It's a good look.
- 18:42unknown: It's a good look.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: You got the boots on?
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: We want to be cowgirls.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: It's natural.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: Well, we just got to take you all out.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Let's go blow up some.
- 18:49SPEAKER_02: I'm ready to jump over a fire.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: That's what we should everyone needs to jump over a fire at least once in their life.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: Safely.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: Safely.
- 18:55SPEAKER_03: A small fire.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: A small fire.
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: Um no, but uh, yeah, we just got into it.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: No.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: And just read about where we're at, you know, and what we're doing.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: And uh right now that's family.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: And uh and just going through all these this crazy world we live in.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: You know, also, you know, living in a town of 300 and then live in a town of 1500, and then come to Nashville, where there's it feels like a damn ant hill.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: And like it's so hard to kind of adjust to that.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: And uh, you know, even I grew up in a house where you don't talk about it, but like mental health stuff and all that, like just so much of it.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: So we just packed it all into this this album and we're throwing it out there.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: What do people expect to hear from the album?
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: Um like what's it about?
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Uh it's I would say it's about again exactly where I'm at in life and and what I'm going through, and uh you know I feel like everybody goes through this part of their life, and I think it's it should be very relatable.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: But um, you know, it's about you know not having enough money to raise these kids and loving life anyways and and pushing through and uh you know, enjoying yourself even though everything's not always great, you know?
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: And uh and about uh signs of life itself, you know, we uh around our house.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: My wife cleans all the time.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: Okay, never stops cleaning.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: That's great, but it's never clean.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: It's so sad to watch her because she's just like getting at her, getting at her, and she'll be like, Can you help me?
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: And I'll be like, Yeah, I'll help you.
- 20:23SPEAKER_03: And I'll get up and help, and then I'll finally just be like, What are we doing?
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: Because our kids, well, but she'll be like mopping, and she'll go to her room to get something, our room to get something, and our kids are like dumping jelly on the floor, smearing bananas all in the cracks, and then she comes back in and she's like, I gotta mop.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: She starts mopping.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: Kids are like in another room breaking a window or something.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: It's it's horrible and amazing.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: But yeah, it's just that's our life right now.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: It's chaotic and wonderful and beautiful and exciting and terrifying.
- 20:53SPEAKER_03: And so that's what this album is.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: Terrifying.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: That's so good.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: And you said your wife sometimes sings on your songs.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Is she on some of these new songs in the album?
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: I think she's on all of them.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: Actually, I think she sings on all those, and uh, she comes to show sometimes when she can.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: And um Yeah, man, we're just going through it.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: It's it's quite literally exactly what we're going through in life.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Do you have a favorite song on the whole album?
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Uh or a collection of songs?
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: I um well, that'd say two.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: I think uh There's one called Devil Does.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: And um it's it's kind of about I had I want to do like a like a weird mental health thing when I first got here.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:35SPEAKER_03: Actually, I was I've always drank a lot in my life, but um I was drinking my normal amount, and then I also started having some fun with my buddies.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: And I uh hit a joint one day.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Let me say that.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, hit a joint one day, um, just having a good time, and uh I don't know what happened, but like I passed out like six times in a row, just boom, boom, but I busted myself up bad.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: Beat my own ass so bad.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: Whooped myself back.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Did you sell tickets to the driver?
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: No one was even there to see us.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: Just walking around there, everybody was like, what happened to you, dude?
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I have no idea.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: But it like threw me into this crazy, like, mental health thing.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: I um still don't know what it is, still like have bits of it around.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: But uh went through like a really weird dark time there.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: And um I think that song is so like it's it's about that kind of time, you know, and it's like uh it's so raw and real about that moment, and enough so that I it's almost like hard to play it live just because it's like almost put you back for a minute.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:38SPEAKER_03: That's one of my favorites, and then um I think it'll reach people.
- 22:42SPEAKER_03: I believe so.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: And then another one of mine is a another day goes by that is uh just about like the passing of town.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: It's so inevitable.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: It's like uh you don't have kids, but when you do, if you do, it's such a it's like the old cliche, everybody's like, you know, you don't blink, it just goes by so fast.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: But it's so freaking true.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: Like uh, especially now traveling a lot and get down on the road.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: The other day my daughter my daughter calls, or my wife calls, and she's like, hey, Emmy's Emmy's tooth is loose.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: And I was like, No, it's not.
- 23:13SPEAKER_03: She's a baby.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: And she was like, no, not anymore.
- 23:16SPEAKER_03: Her tooth's loose.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: I was in uh I think Wisconsin or something somewhere, and I uh told the person I was with, I was like, you gotta fly me home right now.
- 23:24SPEAKER_03: Like this second.
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: And uh she was like, wow.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: I was like, my daughter's tooth's loose, dude.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: Send me home.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: And she was like, okay.
- 23:32SPEAKER_03: So she sent me home.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: And I went there and I was like, woke my daughter was like, eh.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: She was like, what?
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: It was like two in the morning when my flight got I got in for my flight.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: She was like, what?
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: And I was like, your tooth's loose?
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: She was like, yeah, look.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: She opened her mouth up and I wiggled it a little bit and it wasn't ready.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: But I had to leave the next day too, and I was like, I was like, I need more put that under your pillow, honey.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: But I I I don't know, just time passes so fast.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: And like my my parents, they're you know getting older and watching every time I get home, like my dad's greater, my kids are taller.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: It's a lot, you know.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: One less tooth.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: One less tooth.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: Another day goes by.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: Another day goes by.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: Wow, we can't wait to hear it.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: And so you co-wrote on one of Luke Combs' new songs on his album, Fifteen Minutes.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: You said that you write songs about based off things that you what kind of experience did that song come from?
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so uh when I moved to Louisiana, after I had kids, my dad and mom were like, Nope, you ain't doing that without us.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: So they come flying down right behind us, and we're like, we're gonna be around them babies.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: And uh my dad's just a strange fella.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: He's uh got a knack for just getting weird jobs and cool jobs, and he calls one day and he's like, Hey, I got this job, real good job at a prison down here.
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: And I was like, What are you talking about?
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: And he was like, You just gotta come hang out, dude, you'll love it.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: And he's like, You gotta meet some of these guys.
- 24:56SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Oh, alright.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: And I I did, I drove up there and they shut the big gates behind me.
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: They're like, that gate closes.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: Look around, like dude tatted up and everything.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: And I was like, all right.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Is that your first time in a prison?
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: I had to think about that one.
- 25:13SPEAKER_03: For me, for me it was, I think.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: I think I like I like to tune out the uh first half of my life.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, it doesn't got.
- 25:26SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: It's a do over here.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: No, but I I go in there and uh, of course, there's all the guys that you you meet, and you're like, whoa, dude, you're something different.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: And um, but then like there's so many in there that was I was just like, gosh, you should have been hanging out with us last Friday.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: Like, what are you doing here?
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: And uh one of them in particular was a guy, he was like uh 22 or 23 years old, my age at the time, like sitting there talking to just like one of my buddies, what it felt like, and he uh he was in there because he he was at a bar and uh just hanging out with him and his wife, and some guy kept like messing with his wife.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: He just turned around and hit the guy um just to stand his ground, like a lot of fellas I know would do.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: And uh he didn't mean to, but he killed the guy.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: Like the guy, but I don't know if he hit his head or what happened afterwards, but it killed the guy, and um they like he got in a lot of trouble, bad trouble, and he's probably in there for life.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: And uh he was like, he's my age, and he was telling me about how you only get to talk to his mom for like 15 minutes a week.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: And I was like, dude, what?
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: Like that's crazy, like leaving there, just stuck stuck with me, was kind of on my shoulders until I got home.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: And um well, later when I got home, I couldn't sleep, just thinking about it a lot, and then I uh ended up going with uh Grant Vogel and Rob Pennington.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: We went in a room and figuring out what we're gonna write today, and I was telling that story and about my dad, and I had to like call my dad and I was asking him, I was like, what do you call this thing?
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: He was like, Well, you call it a whatever.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: And uh we tried to make it as accurate as as we could, and we just wrote that story, you know?
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: Kind of his story.
- 26:58SPEAKER_03: Now my goal, I want to get back in that prison and tell him that Luke Combs is singing a song about it.
- 27:02SPEAKER_03: I thought that'd be really cool.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: That would be so cool.
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: My dad's here now, but I'm sure we could get back in there.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Sure, you'd be able to.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, and then I wanted it too.
- 27:11SPEAKER_03: My publisher was like, hey, we got somebody looking at that song, and I was like, I was like, I'm doing that's my album, I'm gonna put that on the album.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: I think I was like, oh, well, we'll tell him no, dude.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: I was like, all right, he was like, it's Luke Holmes.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I hate that I hate that song.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: Hate it, never liked it, he can have it.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Tell him to take it.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: Now it's on his album, which is awesome.
- 27:30SPEAKER_03: That's so cool.
- 27:31SPEAKER_03: Like like six years ago, I was like out there running around doing Luke Holmes covers.
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: So it's really cool to full circle moment.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: Have you met him?
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: I have not yet.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: We need to make that happen.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: Come on.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: We'll pull some strings.
- 27:47unknown: Thank you.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: We might need you every time.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: We need to get you to sing that song.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: Do you ever sing it sometimes at your shows?
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, sometimes.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: Um I I like I I'm alright with letting him having that having that line like that.
- 28:01SPEAKER_03: That's but uh, you know, as long as he just says it one day.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: He's like, you know, Trey.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: Shout out.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: Shout out.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: Shout out.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: A little shout-out would be cool.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: Okay, we've got a little round of rapid fire.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: Rapid fire?
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: There's no propane tanks in here.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: There's no propane tanks.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: I kind of wish there was now.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: We can always freeze color if you want.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, you have to choose one that you have to live without for the rest of your life.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: And it's bread or potatoes?
- 28:26SPEAKER_03: Bread.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: Whoa, without quick answer.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: No more hot chips.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: Uh huh.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: No more fries.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: We call them hot chips.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: No, you'd rather live without bread.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: But yeah, rather live without bread.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, live without bread.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay, okay, okay.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay, that's yeah.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: No more sandwiches.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: What did you say, Seglio?
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Hot chips.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: Hot chips.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: Fries.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Fries.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: French fries.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: French fries, yeah, exactly.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: What's a dream venue that you'd love to play at?
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: Uh Red Rocks.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: What's the first concert you ever went to?
- 28:58SPEAKER_03: Mo Haggard.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: Wow, that's a flex.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: Right before he died, actually.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: No way.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: What's a hill that you die on?
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Like something that you're really passionate about, like a weird thing.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: A hill that I would die on.
- 29:19SPEAKER_03: I don't have any of those.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: No, that's pretty open-minded fellow.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: Okay, good.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Alright, there you go.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: There's a hill I die on.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: Be open-minded.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Okay, Holly and I are both single.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: What's your best piece of dating advice?
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: Single?
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: Uh don't meet people at bars.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: When should we make do we need to go to songwriting camp?
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: Enough of Tinder.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: We're not on Tinder.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Oh dear.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: Maybe we do need to go to Toad Suck or something and then No.
- 29:48SPEAKER_03: Don't go there.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Never mind.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: The bars will be hard.
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: Don't go to Toad Suck.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: If you had to name it to a bus, what are you gonna call it?
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: Samantha.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Samantha Samantha.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't know.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Um I thought that was a big story.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: Samantha.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: I did not say it like that.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Samantha.
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: Samantha.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: If you got dropped in the Aussie Outback and you could only bring one artist to come with you.
- 30:17SPEAKER_03: An artist?
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to survive and to get out.
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: This is just to survive.
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: This is Yeah, just to survive.
- 30:22SPEAKER_03: Not political or anything else.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: And then you can't just to survive.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: Kid Rock.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: Okay, why?
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: You're talking about being dropped like out in the wilderness out there?
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: My next question is gonna be what item are you bringing in.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: How do we not?
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: Y'all got a lot of dangerous stuff out there, huh?
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: Isn't there like, aren't you like in like certain death all the time?
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: Just surrounded by murderous animals?
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: You'll be safe.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: You just gotta, yeah, bring kidrain guns.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: What about the koalas?
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Oh, they're fine.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: They're not gonna hurt you.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: They're not gonna hurt you.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: They ain't got no diseases or anything.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, but you don't need to hug them.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: What am I going there for?
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: They're actually quite hard to find.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: In the wild, yeah.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: Well, it's because they're already shooting them.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: I ordered a wallaby from you guys.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: What?
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Not from you guys.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: A live one?
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: I was like, we don't have any wallabies.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: But it was a scam.
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: I think.
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: I saved up a lot of money.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Wait, wait.
- 31:23SPEAKER_03: How much money did you pay and how much did you lose?
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: I think it was like$8,000 when I was like 16.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Wait, online?
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: You just Googled.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: And then it was another like$2,000 to get my uh friend a um exotic pets license.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: Wait, so what happened with the wallaby?
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: It just never came.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: I've always wondered how cool I thought about how cool it would be if one day I'm just like sitting there and a wooden crate shows up at my house.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: Just like now, all these years later.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: I'm like, what the hell is that?
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: I break it open and a little wallaby hops up.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: Wait, so you got the exotic pet license for your friend, not for you.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: No.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: So the wallaby was not for you?
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: I was too young to have the license.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: And I couldn't order it either, so I had to give him the money with the license to order it.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: Where did you order it from, like eBay or something?
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Um Craigslist.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: Somewhere online.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: I probably would have got it if it was on Craigslist.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: And it probably would have come from like my neighbor or something.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: No, I don't know, but it never showed up.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: And I was still kind of heartbroken about it.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: That's a lot of money to spend on a wall.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: I wanted a kangaroo.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I think I had them in um Texas.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: They have them.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: Wallabies?
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: No.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, kangaroo?
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: E mus.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: But I swear Miranda Lambert.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:35SPEAKER_03: Well, I thought a kangaroo was too big.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'll go for the wallaby then.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: They are actually a little bit smaller, but not by not by that much.
- 32:40SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 32:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: You can get to booty.
- 32:42SPEAKER_02: There's actually, if you want to come down to Australia, there are lots of kangaroos and wallabies around.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: Can you hug them?
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: Um, you'd probably get punched in the face.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: Punch your back.
- 32:53SPEAKER_02: That is some dark shit right there.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: Can we sell tickets in Australia?
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: To what the boxing matches?
- 33:01SPEAKER_03: Nick Lightning.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: 2.0.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: No, I'm gonna show you a video after this.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: Actually, I'll clip it.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: And and basically there's like it's like a thing that drunk people in like outback Australia, they go to the pub and then they get so pissed, and then there's like a kangaroo that like walks down the street, and then they'll end up having a boxing fight with said kangaroo.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: They will like they will like punch you.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: I thought they like kick the shit out of you.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: Then they'll kick you as well.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: But like sometimes they're like huge, like they're like over six foot tall, and they're like, in the picture of one, it looked like yeah, like jacked.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: Like the rock.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: Dude, blowed up.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like that that is like the most like pro dunk thing that you could possibly do is like box a kangaroo.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: Oh man, I just want to hug him.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you could probably hug it.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: You give it a little snack, maybe.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: You hug it tight enough.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: It won't be able to get you.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Because it'll be asleep.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: This is how you advertise your show in Australia.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Um kangaroo.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you just tell people that here and they'll come do it.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: Well, that you're gonna bring kangaroos.
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, dude.
- 34:09SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 34:09SPEAKER_03: We'll show up for anything.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: Um, are you a good driver?
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: Uh fabulous.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: Right, you're driving in comparison to national drivers.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, dude.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: What?
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: People are crazy around here.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: I know you're saying it's crazy.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: A lot of people aren't from here.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: And that's what that's why that's why I think people from Tennessee are great and can drive amazing.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: It's all the ones that aren't from here that are just kind of driving crazy.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: Like uh my wife.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: She's a crazy driver.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: I just do like this in the pasture seat.
- 34:44SPEAKER_03: Scared to death.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: That's how Grace and I are in all the Ubers in that field.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: They're crazy.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: They get you where you're going though.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: Every time we feel like we're gonna get it.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Every time we're in the car.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we need to add that.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no five-star room.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: No, every time we get in the car, there's a car crash somewhere in the road.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: And there's so many signs everywhere being like, do you need a lawyer?
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it's funny too that like so wild.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: Like every second bullboom billboard, thank you, is like this man in the suit being like, You need a lawyer.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: You had a motor vehicle accident.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they'll be like, dude's like, getting ripped.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: Looking down at you.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: I got you.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: Like, you know what?
- 35:23SPEAKER_03: I did.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: Just now.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: I'm about to, but looking at your side.
- 35:27SPEAKER_03: How convenient does that sound?
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: That's right, they're on every road.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: Okay, what's the craziest thing of fans done for you?
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: A guy brought me in my band all beers, and we all shotgun with him.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: But he was like right there at the thing.
- 35:40SPEAKER_03: That was really nice.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's good.
- 35:42SPEAKER_03: Um, there's been some bigger things, that was just one of my favorites.
- 35:44SPEAKER_01: Okay, beautiful.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: If you could write with anyone at the moment, who would be like your dream partner to do a songwriter with?
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Um, Foyt Vance.
- 35:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, I've never I don't know either.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: He's um an Irish guy.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: He wrote a lot for um redhead English guy.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: Ed Shearan?
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: How did I just draw a blank on Ed Shearan?
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: I'm so sorry.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: Sorry, Ed.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's like there's only one of them.
- 36:20SPEAKER_03: Like, I was like, you know, he's uh I didn't have to get anything out.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: You're like, Ed Shearan.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: I'm so confused.
- 36:28SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's like I think he wrote Make It Rain by the him, which is you know, he's phenomenal.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, wow, okay then he does a lot with country artists.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: And he lives in Nashville.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: Uh maybe.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: I don't think so.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: He probably has a house here.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: He's here often, I think.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: There we go.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Did you say you wanted to mention something about the raccoon earlier?
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: I've had a lot of animals.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, what's the what's the how many animals have you had and what kinds of animals?
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: I've had deer, I've had a lot of squirrels.
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: And I've had a lot of raccoons.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: Raccoons.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: You have them as pets or love them little things.
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: You hug them as well?
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I killed a big old hug.
- 37:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this one I just got rid of, his name was Cooter.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: You weren't you got rid of him?
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: I had to.
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: So first, well, one, uh uh, it's a it was I didn't know it was a felony to have them here.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Wait.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Is it in Tennessee?
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Or in America?
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: Well, you can have them as pets if you get them as a pet.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: But uh this one, I've had I had a few of them growing up, and uh a buddy of mine called uh last year at some time was like, hey, my dog killed a raccoon, and I think it's got babies.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: And he's like, I see one at the at the bottom of the tree, and he like put it in a box.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: I thought of you.
- 37:35SPEAKER_03: I was like, I got it, dude.
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: And I got him and brought him home and he's the sweetest little thing.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: I'll show you pictures in a minute.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: He's the sweetest thing.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Wait, so what do you like play with them?
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like bottle feed him for a while until he got big enough, and like uh he was like running around our house just being a maniac.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: They run into the house.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, dude, they're so sweet.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: Do they sleep in your bed?
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: Uh no.
- 37:57SPEAKER_03: Do you take them for walks?
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:58SPEAKER_03: Like on a leash?
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: No, he just cracked on my shoulder and slip on my head.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: Aren't they big?
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: They get big.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: This one wasn't big yet.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: When they get big, it's uh it's a little harder to do that.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: You would put them on a leash then.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: I I used to live in Canada and they used to like when the bins like like they're on the rubbish collection day.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for a few years.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: And I guess this is uh an interview about me.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: No, but I was gonna say they um they they used to come up to the window asking for food.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: And they were like aggressive.
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're well they can be very and the wild, I mean, well, you d there's not many animals that will mess with a raccoon.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: Raccoons meat, like Really?
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: If it oh, a bear?
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: Okay, so if we had nothing to do with a raccoon.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: Uh mess up, it'll mess up anything.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Also very smart.
- 38:41SPEAKER_03: Very smart animals.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they are.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: They know to like uh they know how to get somebody.
- 38:47SPEAKER_03: They'll uh they know they'll go for like genitals and stuff to and kill something off the house.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: How do you know that?
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: I'll just say my last baby has been made.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: I'm kidding.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: Wait, so you said you got your friend an exotic animal license?
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: Did he get any exotic animals?
- 39:08SPEAKER_03: No, that was just for me to get a wallaby.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: I feel like we need to get you a wallaby.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: Please.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: We'll bring it back next time.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: Cooter was like great.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: He was always like playing and everything and having a good time, and he's so sweet.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: And then he started he wasn't mean, but he started getting like rough, like playing rough.
- 39:26SPEAKER_03: He wanted to bite and chew and jump and scratch a little bit.
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: And um, he was doing it just a little, and I was like, oh, this is rough, but it's okay.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: And then uh one day he was like under my bed and he would do this thing where he like runs out, darts across the bed, and goes under the other side, jumps up and runs across the bed and darts on the other side, and then he ran, jumped on my face, and like bit my nose.
- 39:45SPEAKER_03: He's being sweet, he's playing.
- 39:47SPEAKER_03: Sounded super sweet.
- 39:48SPEAKER_03: It hurt so bad, and it like clicked, and I was like, Oh, he could rip my kids' face off if he wanted to.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say it was his pre-opost kids.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: This is with kids.
- 39:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, but I was like, oops, yeah, no, I have to probably do something about that.
- 39:59SPEAKER_03: But also, yeah, you're not allowed to take a raccoon out of the wild.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: Oh and I guess that's what I'd done.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: And then when I started making phone calls, too, I was like, hey, I got a I have a raccoon or whatever, and they were like, everybody's so mean.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: They were like, why would you touch it?
- 40:12SPEAKER_03: I was like, it's mom was dead, and it was like an inch long.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: What was I supposed to do?
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: Just leave it?
- 40:17SPEAKER_03: And they were like, Yes.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: I was like, God, no.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: Oh I raised him up, dude.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: What do I gonna do with him?
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: They were like, I don't know, find somebody else.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: I was like, okay.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: And finally I found a guy, and he was like, I'll take him.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: And I brought him up to his house.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: I was so sad and nervous too.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: He like rode my shoulder on the way there, and um, we get out, and he was like hissing at the guy, and I was like, he wants to stay with me.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: And uh I was like, where's he gonna stay?
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: I saw these little cages too.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: I was like, where's he gonna stay?
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: I was like, um, I thought he was gonna point those cages.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: He was like, These are my rabbit cages, and he brings me around the back, and he had like a it looked like a cheetah sitting out there, and I was like, What is that?
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: He was like, It's a something African, something a leopard?
- 40:53SPEAKER_03: No, it was different, but it looked like it looked like a small cheetah.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: And uh we but I started looking around and he had like nine raccoons, like albino one, a solid black one, and then he had uh foxes that were all kinds of crazy looking colors, and these badass cages, too.
- 41:08SPEAKER_03: He was like, he's gonna live in here with them.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: Wait, oh dude, it's got the life.
- 41:11SPEAKER_02: What's that guy's name?
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Joe Exotic.
- 41:13SPEAKER_03: Kind of like that, but for small animals.
- 41:17SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, that's crazy.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: Does he have a name?
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: Uh the guy?
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: He's like the raccoon tamer.
- 41:23SPEAKER_03: I don't know, but I don't know his name, and I'm not sure I'd say it if he did, because I don't know if it's not sure what his operation is.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: No, yeah, he had a funny nickname like Joe Exotic, I was like so are you gonna get another pet raccoon or I don't know.
- 41:35SPEAKER_03: I'd love to.
- 41:36SPEAKER_03: Maybe when my kids get a little older.

- 41:58SPEAKER_03: And they'd pick it up and look around.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: And they'd just put it back down, back inside.
- 42:03unknown: What?
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: One of them choked on a peanut to death.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: My uncle was drinking too much and just looked at it and laughed at it.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: He didn't know what was going on.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: Oh no! And then the other one, uh, my buddy had a camo jacket on.
- 42:15SPEAKER_03: He walks in our house, and that sucker went flying across and jumped on him.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: I guess he thought he was free.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: I don't know what he's thinking.
- 42:21SPEAKER_03: And uh my buddy thought it was funny, he was like trying to grab it, and he got it in a bit all the way through his thumb.
