- 0:00When an individual takes up the spiritual path, he normally
- 0:04starts by desiring peace, knowledge, power or some kind of
- 0:10solace or comfort. But what if he is actually faced
- 0:15with an unending series of obstacles, challenges, threats
- 0:20and various forms of physical, vital or mental suffering?
- 0:25In such a case, does he maintain his complete faith in the divine
- 0:30or does he begin to doubt the Divine, the truth, the path, the
- 0:36teaching or his own abilities to follow it?
- 0:41Tibet's great Yogi Milarepa suffered from doubts as he was
- 0:45given hard back breaking work that seemed meaningless, while
- 0:49his guru gave the teachings to a number of others without that
- 0:53demand. He reached a breaking point but
- 0:57persevered, maintained his faith even if by a thread, and
- 1:03eventually obtained the teachings and the realization
- 1:06that comes from practising them. Complete faith implies complete
- 1:12acceptance. If we demand peace or serenity
- 1:18or some other form of solace from the Divine, we are
- 1:22bargaining, and our faith is conditional, not absolute.
- 1:28If we are here not for personal experiences of peace or bliss,
- 1:33but to participate in the great transition to the next stage of
- 1:37conscious evolution, we have to expect that the path is 1 of
- 1:41confronting the obstacles, difficulties, nots, vital
- 1:46resistances, mental opposition, and physical weaknesses along
- 1:50the way. This is not then a path of
- 1:54retreat, but a path filled with difficulties that must be faced
- 1:59and resolved for that next evolutionary principle to
- 2:03manifest. In such a case, the existence of
- 2:07these challenges is not only part of the path, but
- 2:11essentially the path itself. The faith lies then, in
- 2:16accepting that this is the way, and that the Divine has given
- 2:20each individual who accepts this program within himself the exact
- 2:25challenges and issues he is both meant to confront and eventually
- 2:31to resolve and overcome for the general development of
- 2:35consciousness. A disciple asks, Can't trust be
- 2:41total and entire? The Mother responds quote.
- 2:47Not necessarily. Well, there is a shade of
- 2:50difference, however, I don't know.
- 2:52It is not the same thing. One has given oneself totally to
- 2:57the divine work. One has faith in it, not only in
- 3:00its possibility, but faith that it is the thing which is true
- 3:05and which must be. And one gives oneself entirely
- 3:09to it without asking what will happen.
- 3:12And so therein or thereon may be grafted a certitude, a
- 3:17confidence that one is capable of accomplishing it, that is, of
- 3:22participating in it and doing it because one has given oneself to
- 3:26it. A confidence that what 1 is
- 3:29going to do, what one wants to do, one will be able to do.
- 3:35That this realization one wants to attain, one will attain.
- 3:39The first does not put any questions, does not think of the
- 3:44results. It gives itself entirely.
- 3:48It gives itself and then that's all it is, something that
- 3:52absorbs 1 completely. The other may be grafted upon
- 3:57it. Confidence says yes, I shall
- 4:01participate, realize what I want to realize.
- 4:03I shall surely take part in this work for the other.
- 4:08One has faith in the Divine, that it is the Divine who is all
- 4:12and can do all and does all, and who is the only real existence.
- 4:18And one gives oneself entirely to this faith, to the Divine.
- 4:22That's all. One has faith in the existence
- 4:25of the Divine and gives oneself. And there can also be grafted
- 4:29upon this a trust that this relation one has with the
- 4:33Divine. This faith one has in the Divine
- 4:37will work in such a way that all that happens to him, whatever it
- 4:42may be, all that happens to him, will not only be an expression
- 4:47of the divine will that of course is understood, but also
- 4:52the best that could happen, that nothing better could have
- 4:55happened to him, since it is the Divine who is doing it for him.
- 5:01This attitude is not necessarily a part of faith, for faith does
- 5:05not question anything. It does not ask what the
- 5:08consequence of itself giving will be.
- 5:11It gives itself, and that's all. While confidence can come and
- 5:16say that's what the result will be.
- 5:20And this is an absolute fact, That is, the moment one gives
- 5:24oneself entirely to the divine without calculating, in a total
- 5:28faith, without bargaining of any kind, one gives oneself, and
- 5:34then come what may, that does not concern me.
- 5:38I just give myself automatically.
- 5:41It will always be for you in all circumstances, at every moment,
- 5:48the best that will happen. Not the way you conceive of it
- 5:53naturally. Thought knows nothing.
- 5:56But in reality, well, there's a part of the being which can
- 6:00become aware of this and have this confidence.
- 6:03This is something added on to faith which gives it more
- 6:06strength. A strength.
- 6:09How shall I put it of total acceptance and the best
- 6:14utilization of what happens. End Quote reference.
