- 0:00Speaker 1: The voice that fights for New York literally, Curtis leewa
- 0:05Speaker 1: guest hose for Mark Simone on sevent tenor artificial intelligence Aisy,
- 0:18Speaker 1: You're gone. If I remain at OK radio show hosts,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'll be gone. There won't be jobs for anybody, because
- 0:27Speaker 1: let's leave it to the masters of the universe Elon
- 0:30Speaker 1: Musk and the other billionaires trillionaires who said, don't worry,
- 0:35Speaker 1: we'll have universal high income.
- 0:37Speaker 2: We'll take care of all of you from the cradle
- 0:40Speaker 2: to the grave. You're on one hundred.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And fifty five thousand dollars a year and you can
- 0:44Speaker 1: play with your belly button lint at home. Yeah, well,
- 0:48Speaker 1: you're going to trust any of them before we go
- 0:53Speaker 1: to the folds. I went through Times Square earlier this week,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and they have what they call their Wishing War. It's
- 1:00Speaker 1: mostly for tourists who are dumb enough to show up
- 1:04Speaker 1: and want to wait for the ball to drop. Remember today,
- 1:08Speaker 1: the rules are three o'clock. That's when you got to
- 1:10Speaker 1: get into your cattle pens. All the depends have been
- 1:15Speaker 1: cleaned off the racks at CBS and Dwayne Reid because
- 1:19Speaker 1: you met a you met a double bundle yourself imagine
- 1:22Speaker 1: you got to be there from three to twelve. When
- 1:25Speaker 1: the ball drops nine hours you've been drinking a little bit, right,
- 1:29Speaker 1: you know you're gonna have to go, and you can't
- 1:32Speaker 1: squeeze your legs forever.
- 1:34Speaker 2: But if you leave the cattle pen, you can't come back.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Now, why would anybody in their right mind who lives
- 1:42Speaker 1: in the Tri State area want to venture into that?
- 1:45Speaker 1: Normally they'd start loading up the cattle pens at six,
- 1:49Speaker 1: but Jessica Tis she wants everybody search twice. It's like
- 1:52Speaker 1: taking the list and then checking it twice. Ridiculous. But
- 1:57Speaker 1: then again, you gotta be ridiculous to be there. That's
- 2:00Speaker 1: why you notice it's all turus. But anyway, so they're
- 2:03Speaker 1: putting up these pasties on this wishing wall. I got
- 2:07Speaker 1: about two hundred thousand that'll be shredded up put with
- 2:11Speaker 1: the confetti that drops with the release of the ball
- 2:13Speaker 1: to welcome in twenty twenty six.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And there's one paste it stood out to me. It
- 2:20Speaker 2: said no more AI.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Oh, we're gonna get into that on Friday, and we're
- 2:26Speaker 1: gonna talk about bitcoin, crime, coin and driverless vehicles. A
- 2:32Speaker 1: lot of you driving right now not gonna need you
- 2:35Speaker 1: if you're doing this for a profession. The masters of
- 2:38Speaker 1: the universe don't want to have to pay any of you.
- 2:42Speaker 1: They're gonna they're gonna take care of you from the
- 2:44Speaker 1: cradle to the grave. Yeah, yeah, right, don't trustem. Let's
- 2:50Speaker 1: go if we can to Bill, who's calling? Your turn
- 2:53Speaker 1: to be heard here at seven ten wor.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Billy, Good Morning, Curtis Walter Winchell's radio shows he had
- 3:05Speaker 3: There was a major plumbing league in the White House
- 3:07Speaker 3: between nineteen thirty three and nineteen forty five, and that
- 3:11Speaker 3: leak went right to Walter Winch's radio show. The leak
- 3:14Speaker 3: was the President himself.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Fdr Right.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Every one had been because of that league. He my god,
- 3:22Speaker 3: he had more. Walter Winshell had more enemies after forty five.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Truman hated Winschell, so after forty five his radio net
- 3:31Speaker 3: just collapsed on him.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Well, let me tell you one thing. When I was
- 3:34Speaker 1: over at WABC, no longer my place to be, we
- 3:38Speaker 1: had a crown jewel in broadcasting on Sunday Night who
- 3:42Speaker 1: just wanted to be like his mentor, Walter Winschell. His
- 3:44Speaker 1: name was Matt Trudge. The guy loved talk radio. I
- 3:49Speaker 1: know because when I met him in LA for the
- 3:51Speaker 1: first time. He was behind the seven and eleven serving
- 3:54Speaker 1: not chosen slurpies. He was not the mad trudge that
- 3:58Speaker 1: he became, and he would go and listen to Kiev.
- 4:04Speaker 2: George Putnam.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I would be a guest there organizing Guardian Angels, and
- 4:07Speaker 1: we got to know one another. And George Putman was
- 4:09Speaker 1: sort of like the Bob Grant of LA and he
- 4:11Speaker 1: would regale us with stories. He wanted to be just
- 4:16Speaker 1: like Walter Winchell. He had to hat the whole nine yards.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Lynn Samuel's another great hostess and talk creator never gets
- 4:22Speaker 1: recognized was his board operator.
- 4:25Speaker 2: On Sunday Nights, they had ratings that nobody ever had.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And you know what happened.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Bill the program director at the time, Phil Boyce, goes
- 4:34Speaker 1: and the network wants.
- 4:36Speaker 2: To syndicate you.
- 4:36Speaker 1: You're doing so well Monday through Friday from six to nine.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And Matt Judge said, all they want to do is
- 4:45Speaker 1: Sunday nights. Just like my mentor, Walter Winchell, I don't
- 4:49Speaker 1: want to do radio five days a week. And then
- 4:52Speaker 1: Phil just kept pressing him and you know saw he
- 4:55Speaker 1: picked up.
- 4:55Speaker 2: He left. He went down to Miami the rest is history.
- 4:59Speaker 1: The person who go hired to fill that void because
- 5:02Speaker 1: they were so hoping that Matt Drudge would get those
- 5:04Speaker 1: same ratings from Monday through Friday. Uh, take a guess
- 5:11Speaker 1: somebody who also his mentor when he was listening on
- 5:16Speaker 1: hiatus to Bob Grant at WWB, Mark Levin, who grew
- 5:20Speaker 1: up outside of Philadelphia, and that's how his radio career started.
- 5:27Speaker 2: If only they had left Matt.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Drudge alone with Lynn Samuels's board operator, both of them
- 5:36Speaker 1: very eccentric, but it was some of the greatest radio
- 5:40Speaker 1: of all time.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And the ratings were through the roof.
- 5:44Speaker 1: The other trick they use over there at WABC, they
- 5:49Speaker 1: had this thing is.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Look at the stream on my phone. Look at the stream,
- 5:53Speaker 2: Look how my ratings are going up. That's not ratings.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It's like the Wizard of Ours, like snake oil salesman,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and they'll buy that. You want real ratings, Boy, I've
- 6:05Speaker 1: never seen ratings like Matt Trudge got on Sunday nights.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Imitating his mentor, Walter Winschew, who would do only one
- 6:13Speaker 1: radio show a week on Sunday nights on the ABC network.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Thousands of radios would be tuned to him, thousands of
- 6:24Speaker 1: radio stations carried that.
- 6:27Speaker 2: The golden age of radio. Well, let's go back.
- 6:31Speaker 1: To the phones in honor today of the father of
- 6:34Speaker 1: talk radio, Barry Gray, who really created the format of
- 6:37Speaker 1: taking calls. Let's go to Maria, who's calling from Westchester.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Your turn to be heard here at seven to ten WR.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Hello, Curtis, what an honor to talk to you. Can
- 6:49Speaker 4: we ask if Jillham and Donnie will be taking his
- 6:53Speaker 4: oath of office with his hand on the Constitution, well
- 6:57Speaker 4: one of his swearing inns on the Constitution, and will
- 7:02Speaker 4: he respect this Constitution of the United States.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I wouldn't know because I haven't been invited. You know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: you show the ma'm alu carricatam to show up. If
- 7:13Speaker 1: you tell you a zornista's not taboomy, oh my god.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I will try to find that out for you. Whether
- 7:19Speaker 1: he's taking it on a Qur'an, a Bible based on
- 7:23Speaker 1: our United States Constitution, the Bill of Rights. I will
- 7:28Speaker 1: certainly let you know by Friday, because, as I told
- 7:32Speaker 1: my wife Nancy, if I'm not invited, I'm going.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Anyway, right, you know me, what are they gonna do
- 7:37Speaker 2: stop me? I'll go there for that What are that
- 7:39Speaker 2: street party they're gonna have. What are they gonna do?
- 7:41Speaker 2: Say you can't come here?
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm the only real New Yorker who was in
- 7:47Speaker 1: this race. Hey, look, he won fair and square. But
- 7:51Speaker 1: he says it's a block party for people in New
- 7:53Speaker 1: York City, Right, It didn't just say a block party
- 7:57Speaker 1: for those people who voted for him. Am I correct
- 7:59Speaker 1: on that? To be continued. That's why you better be listening.
- 8:04Speaker 1: On Friday morning when I returned for my final program
- 8:08Speaker 1: here in substitute for Mark Simon, Let's go to Tony,
- 8:11Speaker 1: who's calling from White Plains your turn to be heard
- 8:14Speaker 1: here at seven to ten war the Voice of.
- 8:16Speaker 2: New York Tone.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Yeah, hi, churs, churs. Before you mentioned Salatto over there
- 8:22Speaker 5: on the other station. I thought of that before you did.
- 8:26Speaker 5: But you gave him the perfect name, Salato, because that's
- 8:30Speaker 5: exactly what he means.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Well, let me clarify for our listeners, Tony, I did
- 8:33Speaker 1: not give him that name.
- 8:34Speaker 2: It was actually another caller, Who'll say.
- 8:38Speaker 1: The Salazzo at WABC is Dominic Carter, Oh, and he is,
- 8:44Speaker 1: and the moo Green Greg Kelly, and the Tessio who
- 8:50Speaker 1: may have been the worst is Sid Rosenberg. And you
- 8:55Speaker 1: know on Friday what I do every year, I always
- 8:58Speaker 1: do a tribute to Bernard McGirk, who was I mean,
- 9:03Speaker 1: not only the hardest working guy in radio, but took
- 9:06Speaker 1: so much grief from Don Naima said. I witnessed personally
- 9:12Speaker 1: what a great radio guy he was. Died way too early.
- 9:15Speaker 1: If you're getting together with family and friends, tell all
- 9:17Speaker 1: the males get the PSA test, the prick of the finger,
- 9:21Speaker 1: a simple blood test. If McGirk had done that, he'd
- 9:25Speaker 1: be alive today. And all the nonsense that occurred against
- 9:29Speaker 1: me at WABC, always bashing Curtis, always blaming Curtis, would
- 9:33Speaker 1: never have occurred if Bernard McGirk were alive and well.
- 9:38Speaker 1: But we'll get that tribute on Friday. This boy, he
- 9:42Speaker 1: was an ictic figure in this thing of ours radio
