- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, banter today.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, man.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_03]: That would be a good time to go bid on cards.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_03]: Well, Gary is gone and not with any Wi-Fi service.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: Truth.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_03]: So this is the first episode since all star week.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_03]: Home run Derby.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_03]: We were all there.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_03]: Good time, man.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_03]: That was a good time.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_03]: The home run Derby had a blast.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_03]: It was a quick trip for me.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_03]: But I had an absolute blast.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_03]: I was hoping that Camino would take that down.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, almost especially since I would have won that case from the mic, Mayan.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_03]: Other than that, I have had, I've had a few purchases, a couple of meconicals this week, and some other stuff that popped at PSA, went up to City Field yesterday, see, met some angels, do some batting practice, cool stuff, fun stuff.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: How many did you head out?
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: Do you take a few cuts?
- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: I took a few cuts.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: I hit, you know, I hit one of them, three, sixty, nine, just missed.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_03]: Just missed.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: a little better than jazz to them.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that was absolutely brutal.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: That was as embarrassing, man.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_03]: But what's up with you, Mr. Nick Tucker?
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of just getting settled back in and getting back from all start with you guys.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_02]: Not a ton of purchases.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: Last week had a little, had a couple UFC buys recently, kind of been diving into UFC, so I'm a little different.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_03]: So for those of you that don't know who Nick is, Nick is, as Matt mentioned, dashboards on Instagram.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_03]: Nick and I first, I guess, started our, you know, working relationship and now, now friends, but Nick sold me a few cards, big cards that I've, that I've owned and owned still, one being the Roman Anthony Super.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_03]: came from him another being the hose way the Paula super came from Nick there's been some other ones as well but Nick is kind of like I like to call Nick the silent assassin in the Bowman world he collects a little bit of everything right Nick but you like this silent assassin like when I first met you it was like holy crap this guy has these cards like you look at his Instagram it's unbelievable the cards that he's owned and it's not surprising that the Roman and the hose way the Paula came from
- 2:57[SPEAKER_03]: But I guess he's owned some big cards, but one of the biggest ones is I'll let you share that neck.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_03]: What did you own at one point?
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: The Showhead O'Tani, batting Superfactor Auto.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: The O'Tani.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_03]: Some one of the big cards.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: Some one.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Nick was the previous last owner of that card.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_03]: Did you grade that card yourself?
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: I did.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Came back a nine.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_03]: BGS.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: BGS nine.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's got a lot of history with that card.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_03]: Do you regret selling that card?
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know what, I don't regret anything.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: I got the Bryce Harper back out of the deal.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so you got the Bryce Harper Bowman first super back out of that deal.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: So I've had the Harper too.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, just because many of that, before I shared my weak stuff, Nick, just give like a snapshot of the story with like getting the show, hey, super, and then what you traded it into.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so it wasn't that big of a card, I guess.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, back then, I guess this was twenty, eighteen, nineteen, it got pulled as a redemption.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the stuff was selling well, he was hot, but it was a different time in cards.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: buying a card for a thirty grand back then especially a boneman was kind of crazy like there wasn't a ton of boneman chrome supers worth that and like trout harbour your big guys Chris Bryant at the time so it's kind of a big risk then he gets hurt and has Tommy John I'm thinking what am I doing with this thing
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: like this guy.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I've done super fractures in my whole life, so it's kind of like they come and go quickly.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: He's the flavor of the month.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: Just go ahead and make my money on it.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: I can roll it into the Bryce Harper super in a deal.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_02]: Bryce Harper was in my favorite players, so just made too much sense to not do it.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_03]: I have more questions, but I want to hear about that week, and then we're diving right back into that because I got more questions.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm literally on overload right now, based off of all that has happened in the last week.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, current this the first time you and I've been together.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, Nick was with us in Atlanta as well.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: But it's the first time we've been together since we recorded the podcast episode at cards HQ with Mayhand.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, it kind of pinch yourself, right?
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: This surreal nature of like we just started this podcast is like three buddies in the space, you know, wanting to talk about cards.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: And here we are like at that studio interview in Mayhand.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: head of the home run derby and then you know based on some generosity from those guys we were able to go to the players party after the home run derby and in the three of us were actually in this room and like outcasts on stage at the players party and I'm sitting here going like in what universe does Matt Ham you know belong at the player party without cast on's like the twenty one year old version of Matt Ham would think I'm the coolest guy in the world
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: Fourty three year old me is ready for bed.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's so surreal.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: And then those who have followed us online, you saw that, you know, my boys and Gary and his boys connected ahead.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: And we actually pulled the Zire Hope Red out of a Bowman case.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: And that card's now in Walkthrough at PSA.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: And like my head is spinning right now because of all the cool stuff that's going on.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: And at the same time, just trying to kind of take it as it comes.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we got the national next week, which little Matt and I've been prepping for.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: So there's just so much going on right now.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: I can't begin to contextualize it.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the thing I'm trying to just feel is like enjoy the moment while it's here, not expecting it to go away, but also too, like, you know, not get kind of getting so caught up in the moment that you don't enjoy.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just trying to enjoy the moment that we're in right now.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's a pretty cool one.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: She's the moment, my friend.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: That is right.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: So Nick Tucker, right?
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, Nick's a Nick and I'm a little Matt, right?
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: We are in line at our first national.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is back in twenty three and we're standing next to this fella.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: This good looking young man here and this fella and we're like, what are you grading?
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: And we were like, oh, we got, you know, this card here, whatever, and he's like, what are you grading?
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: He was like,
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: I got the Super Bowl to attack of our low one of one, you know, whatever, and I look at it and I'm like, my gosh, this is like the rookie ticket auto one of one, like what else do you have?
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, I'm just some Ellie oranges and an Ellie red and I'm like, who are you?
- 7:07[SPEAKER_03]: And he's like, the silent assassin.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: The silent assassin, but he lives, he lives in North Carolina.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he lives up in the dash, Winston Salem.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, we got to know each other then and then certainly through this, the car shows and connections.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: So Nick, go back to this whole thing about the silent assassin and in some of these things.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_03]: Wait, I just put that together.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_03]: Dash is, is that, wow, that's true.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Winston Salem's known as the dashed city because the height between Winston and Salem.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: So that's where the dash came from.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: current.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's next to Pigeon land.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like a couple hours away from there.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was by turkey neck got it.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_03]: Okay back to show hey.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_03]: So it was a long time ago.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_03]: Look, we always talk about this.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's like if you have the opportunity to come up on a card big, you want to take it usually, right?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's I feel like it's and I'm not saying this is a case with you, but I feel like it steals like that that end up making me
- 8:00[SPEAKER_03]: Like it would make me second guess if that happened.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like cards I own after the fact of like, do I want to take this twenty k profit?
- 8:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like, well, anybody in the right mind should and probably will, it would make me start thinking like, am I going to have a show hey, you know, regret not that anybody's going to be on that level of show hey, but, you know, am I giving up the upside tour?
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you really never know.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I guess that's just always as part of the game.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think your dog thinks that you gave it up to early.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry about that.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: They definitely do.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: They're really disappointed that they're not living in a five million dollar house right now.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_02]: Broke you by show.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: So Nick from knowing you and then we got a chance to spend a little Matt and I got a chance to spend some really cool one on one time.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: We were at the Charlotte show.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think and we're just hanging out in the car and little Matt being the card nerd that he is like he was just completely like just wide-eyed when you're just going through all these stories.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: You to me are like an OG
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: you know like Bowman guy like you were in Bowman like way before I ever thought about sports cards and and you specifically have gone after you know super fractures in that type of stuff like talk a little bit about the philosophy there and like you know again with this show hey deal like you made right on it like you traded it into the Harper super and you did well on the Harper super so net net like it worked out you just don't have the card so talk a little bit about the background there
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: I really started buying Bowman like when Jason Hayward was hot.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: This is probably a two thousand nine, a dozen and ten.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: I had a couple like X-practors thought I was the man trying to say like Tito Culver.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: He was on the Yankees back then.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: I was buying a lot of his stuff.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: He was the first round pick, short stop.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of been prospecting it for a while.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, and it kind of got to a point like as I got bigger made some nice flips.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's like I'm tired of buying the base autos and the fractors.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: I want to start buying the big boys and back then it was hard.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they weren't as expensive, but you're in high school or fresh out of high school, three, four, five, six K for baseball cards a lot of money.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: So kind of kept parlaying it and I got lucky back then and ended up with some of the made a couple right moves, ended up with the crisp Bryant super fracture auto kind of the peak of its power.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: That was the hottest card in the industry was the crisp Bryant super fracture auto.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: This was after that's right.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: More fourteen fifteen.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_02]: He had a great spring training.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: His stuff was correct.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: If I remember right, like orange is over ten grand at that point.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: And orange to be ten grand in two thousand and fourteen or fifteen, you got to be doing something right.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like his stuff was insane.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: And the way his Bowman chrome autos were inserted like his first Bowman isn't actually his first Bowman because he had one in twenty thirteen that was supposed to be inserted and wasn't.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: So they put it in random twenty fourteen products.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: So his cards were all kind of just a weird story behind all his stuff.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_02]: So that was kind of my big one and just sold it and was able to parlay that several years later into other big twopers.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, going into like, twenty, sixteen or fourteen or fifteen or fifteen, remember chasing like Reese to our cow's forber, trade herner.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: Those were the big guys, Walker Bueller.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: So I was trying to get a lot of those guys and moving like fifteen, like, labor torres was the man back then.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: Before you even got traded the Yankees, this stuff was crazy.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things that I know about you that you've been so good at is kind of knowing the people in the marketplace and knowing where cards are.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: And that kind of leads into a listener question, which we're going to go through a few listener questions later, but like part of the key in this game is the ability to access cards.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: So how did that
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I will say this, like, you guys, current, of course, is great at that.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Nick, you're great at that.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: Little Matt is really good at that.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what do you attest that to?
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what is that about for you guys as far as, like, how do y'all do that?
- 11:43[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, my no for me.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of literally will just be on eBay, twenty four seven on Facebook, twenty four seven, non stop.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, you have people to help you.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: Like, something gets pulled into you.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's key to have people that want to help you too.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's very key.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, look, I go to if there's a card I don't know where it is in, you know, in the Bowman world or even in, you know, if there's a basketball card of look, they're like, I go to Nick, like Nick is a great resource for me as we built a relationship to be able to find certain cars.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_03]: And I had, I had test that to, you know, like you said he's in OG, like he's been in this, you've been doing this for a while.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_03]: And so you have the network of people.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_03]: You work for an auction house now.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_03]: You've worked for Golden before, right?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_03]: And so your network of people dating back however many years, like, you know, a decade long is, I mean, it's tremendous, you know what I mean?
- 12:35[SPEAKER_03]: So knowing, it's just, to me, I tested it, like, how long you've been in the hobby, you know?
- 12:40[SPEAKER_03]: For me, like, I'm just a lot of the times I go to Nick, like, me is just keeping my eyes and ears open.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I'm doing, I'm in breaks, but I'm not actually joining them.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just sniping, you know, because I want to get them whether I want to get them all it's hot and like,
- 12:52[SPEAKER_03]: That's how you get them before it's, you know, where it's the open market, but if there's a card like an older card or that I don't know where it is, like a lot of times I'm going, I'm going to Nick and asking if he knows because he has those resources.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: Is that network?
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: Two things stand out to me kind of like parlay on the whole CEO business side of this.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: Number one is like a lot of people look at the collections that people have and they just want to go, oh, that does just got money or whatever, but like the reality is there's a lot of work
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: that goes in behind the scenes to be able to have access.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you have to have the capital.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: But you also have to put in the work, man, to find out where these cards are.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not just like, oh, you just get everything you want.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: No, like Nick said, dude, I spent countless hours on eBay Instagram Stories Facebook, like you're grinding, you know what I mean to find these.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I think people overlook that.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: And they don't understand the actual hustle that's involved.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: People don't know.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: People don't know.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, how do you get all this stuff like dude?
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is legitimately like a grind.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of luck.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: And people will want to put that in.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: And the second part of this is relationships.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you're, you know, if you're not a good person, it gets around really quickly in the hobby.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: And adversely, if you are a good person, it gets around quickly in the hobby.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so one of the things that I'm super grateful for with like the sports card CEO is this idea of like reputation, you know, like that's that's one of the reasons why I want to, you know, do this with you guys is because I like being involved with people who have good reputations because reputations are really hard
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: to build and very, very easily they can crumble.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's just a good reminder for me to like always do the right thing.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: Always be clear in your conversations and stuff because it goes back and pays dividends down the road when you actually can leverage those relationships in a positive way for, you know, acquiring an asset or finding out where it is or whatever.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_03]: Hundred percent.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: If people don't like you, they're not going to want to deal with you.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: a hundred percent.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, there's a lot of that in the industry.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_03]: Nick, what are some of the moment supers you currently own?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_03]: Now that I bought all of them, all of you.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_02]: So what's you've left me with?
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: Are those our mantas?
- 15:00[SPEAKER_02]: Fiesta.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: The Aiden Smith could be a dice one.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: What is a nice one, but could be better than everybody's favorite, a larger green.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_03]: Ooh.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, spicy.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's right now those are my three that I'm kind of sitting on.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: Looking for others.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: But those are the only ones that kind of got now that you have and I've got it me up.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_03]: There was a couple that
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think like we'll talk all the time, but like there were a couple prospects that like we didn't discuss for whatever reason.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_03]: Um, just because they were not like big name guys or Tom top one hundred lists.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_03]: One of them make located the super and I was like, get the add here.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_03]: No way bought it up before even touch the card.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_03]: The other one I got straight from a guy that hit in the break and he's like, get out of here.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_03]: I've been I've been searching for that guy.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's just, it's just funny out of the way this works, man.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's funny.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: So Nick, talking like kind of a little bit of card, high in card, snobbery.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_01]: What would you say if you had to list like the three?
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: Because right now, we've hung out and we're like literally hilarious to me, because you will rip wrestling, you will rip NASCAR, you will rip ten.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: Who's ripping up?
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: What were you ripping?
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: National treasures NASCAR in Atlanta.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: I have your box right here.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: He'll get into all kinds of stuff.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: But when you think about like three cards that you have owned that you look at and you go man,
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: What a really cool experience for me to own that particular card.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: What what three cards stand out to you.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely the show.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_02]: The Bryce Harper's Super Fractor Auto.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_02]: Those two are clear.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_02]: Number three though could be like five different cards.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Give me a sampling.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to say the Mahomes fifteen at a ninety nine jersey number national treasures are p.a.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to say that is the number three coolest.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean one point that was a seven figure card.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so that was I mean cuz I had tons of eye in the homes Lamar Jackson.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: I had his true in T shield RPA.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: I've had a lot in T shows.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_03]: Do you know do you know where the Mahomes is now?
- 16:57[SPEAKER_03]: You don't have to say where but do you know where it is?
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, the guy told the clue still has it.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: I was kind of his thing.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: He was he wanted it to hold it literally forever.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_02]: And so I felt comfortable moving it till him at the time and I did great on it.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously could have did way better.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: But it's all good.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's part of talking up to the game.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: You make your money and part of the game.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: That is correct.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: So when it comes down to, you know, I'm interested to like, before we dive in these list of questions, when you, when you look at like, you know, flipping cards, buying and selling, you know, acquiring and liquidating or whatever, for the purpose of like having pieces in your own PC that you like.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know that that's a reality for you.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, so there are cards that you still own that you love and that you are not for sale.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about a couple of those.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: So recently I guess I was kind of able to a friend of mine got it and work to deal with me to get my grail card of my life, which was the
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: Cam Newton National Treasures Shield Rookie Patch Auto.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_02]: I've been looking for that since I was a kid, finally surfaced randomly on Instagram, like a year ago.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_02]: I missed it.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: My buddy was able to get it and we worked a deal for it, so that was kind of like my lifetime grail that I recently got.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's my main one.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_02]: Johnny Manzell, Top's Chrome, Superfactor Rookie Auto as another one.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_03]: So I do see a trend here.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I like the kind of, not well, again, Cam Newton won the bus.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like, man, I like the kind of has been guys.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like, Reggie Bush, I have probably one of the best Reggie Bush collections there is.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: One of the best Michael Vitt collections.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_03]: Why why the has been guys?
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I think it's part of when I was in the era of growing up of cards.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you want a big Michael Vitt card.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: It was the hottest thing in the world, same with Reggie Bush.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_02]: Nothing, and the hobby was hotter than Reggie Bush at one point.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, seven, like I was like, I bought a, I have probably the biggest Jamaica's possible collection out there.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: At the time, he was also the man.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I like kind of going back and getting those monster cards that I wasn't able to afford or acquire when I was younger and kind of what keeps the hobby fun.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: Because of course, this stuff prospecting spawn, making money flipping cards, but
- 18:57[SPEAKER_02]: kind of going back to the root of what got me started is kind of what keeps the fresh and what keeps me going every day instead of just looking at just dollars dollars and since all the time.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: I have something to have fun a little bit and break it up.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to totally date myself and make an honest statement here.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a happily married man completely.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: But growing up as a kid, buddy, Kelly Capalsky from the Amber season.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: If I saw her now, I'd be like, oh my god, that's Kelly Capalsky, right?
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: Cause like, as a kid, you're like, that's Kelly Capalsky.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm thinking about this card.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, the thing that goes off in my brain is like, save by the bell.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know what I mean?
- 19:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, Kelly Capalsky.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_03]: Oh man.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Kern.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I know.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_03]: I know.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_03]: I know.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_03]: I love to save the bell.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it's so good, man.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: So epic.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: So we've got some listener questions here.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: Kern, did you have anything else for Nick before we transition into the listener stuff?
- 19:48[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm sorry for your loss on show.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_01]: So this is just like, you know, three collectors, buddies, whatever, just kind of chatting through like card stuff.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_01]: And we get questions all the time, which by the way, for our listeners and viewers, like, we're so grateful for the folks that continue to listen to the show.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it means the world to us.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: We're getting messages daily.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly, Mayhand reposted last week's episode out on his.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: We've got all these new followers on Instagram.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're following us on Instagram, thank you guys so much.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: Keep sharing the show out and let us know what it is that you want to hear.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, part of this is Gary all he says.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: is kind of education and advocacy.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: So you guys ask these questions and we'll answer them.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: So that being said, we've got five listener questions here that I thought would be great.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_01]: to have our perspective on with somebody like Nick on the show with us.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: So the first question is the big question and that is sticker autos.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk about sticker autos.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: Are they collectible?
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: Do they have long-term value?
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Where do you guys rank them now?
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: I know Current's first purchase was a beautiful sticker autos.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_03]: No, it wasn't a sticker on card.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_03]: It was on card, but it was, I thought it was a PSA-ten, but it was an authentic slot.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_03]: PSA-ten auto.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I got you.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: So what's your take on the sticker auto's current?
- 21:04[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, just talking from a personal perspective, I can't buy a sticker on it.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_03]: I won't, I won't, and I can't.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I'm not saying that they don't hold value.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like it's more prominent in football anyway.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I'm wrong, but I just can't personally buy or collect any sticker on us, no matter what.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously there's probably some more additional thoughts from people that they don't have to this whole scandal, regardless.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I can't, I can't do sticker on us.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_03]: I just can't.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_03]: It ruins the card for me.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'd rather have
- 21:32[SPEAKER_03]: a card without the auto, then a sticker auto.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_03]: That's just me personally as a collector.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: Why do you think that is what's driving that?
- 21:43[SPEAKER_03]: It just doesn't feel authentic to me.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't feel authentic.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_03]: Like the whole point for an autograph for me is that the player touched that card and autographed it.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if they touched the card and it was in their hands and
- 21:58[SPEAKER_03]: They signed it on the card.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_03]: Like a sticker is just, it just seems mass produced.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_03]: It feels more mass produced and less rare.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_03]: It might not be the case, right?
- 22:07[SPEAKER_03]: You could put a one-on-one in print it on, you know, you could, you know, foil stamp a one-on on a super fractor, but
- 22:14[SPEAKER_03]: And then it gets the same sticker, but like, it just doesn't feel as scarce to me.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_03]: Doesn't feel as authentic knowing that the player didn't touch that card.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_02]: Firstly, I'm not a fan of sticker out of, but I think it does depend on this for if you're buying soccer or F-One where it's a lot harder to get in front of these guys.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: a lot of them are in Europe, Asia, places like that.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think sometimes the sticker might be in a necessity, just to get the product out.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like Top's Chrome F-One is all sticker autos, from which it makes sense, because it's harder to get the stuff, but of course with Dynasty's all on card, but I think there's kind of variables like there's a new high and soccer product coming out.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: There's stickers.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's just harder to get in front of Leminium all messy.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_03]: For sure.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_03]: That hundred percent.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_03]: That's why I said like it varies by sport I think, right?
- 22:57[SPEAKER_03]: Because I know I don't know enough about those sets and everything.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_03]: Speaking as a baseball collector, maybe I'm spoiled by the fact that the fanatics is grandest with mostly on card autos for the most part, right?
- 23:08[SPEAKER_03]: But let's just say Bowman was all sticker autos.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_03]: I don't
- 23:14[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I don't think, let's just say Top's Chrome was still all sticker rows.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_03]: Now they're all in card orders, right?
- 23:19[SPEAKER_03]: Nick didn't do used to be sticker rotos.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Top's Chrome was stick.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I cannot, I would not be paying as strong as I would.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_03]: Like, Top's Chrome update has sticker rotos.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I'm not buying those.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_03]: I don't care if it's a one of one.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_03]: I don't care if it's a red out of five.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not buying it.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want a sticker auto.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't know whether that's because I'm spoiled or not, but I don't know.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, one of the things to be mindful of, too, is I got this personal DM the other day, somebody asking me, it was a Bowman product.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, it was a Hacus Modet.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was a blue Hacus Modet.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: Paper paper probably, yeah.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: So in Bowman, for those who might not know, the paper autos are the sticker autos.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, the value difference between a true blue on-card chrome versus a blue paper sticker is astronomical.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: But what happens to a lot of people in the space if they don't understand this, they go on eBay, and somebody's hit a blue paper sticker auto, and they look up comps and stuff, and they don't understand the difference, and they're paying, you know, let's say a blue mod A is probably what a twenty five hundred dollar card now, true blue on card, ballpark, current.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_03]: I can't probably, maybe in the tenure.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so less than that, but my point is that somebody will go out there and pay, oh, I can get this one for a grand and it's a sticker paper.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's never gonna hold the same kind of sway or value or whatever.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: So just again, reminder, like make sure you know what you're buying and make sure you really understand the product and the offering.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_03]: And honestly, I don't know why.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I could hear the argument of like, it's still the autograph.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_03]: It just, it doesn't feel as authentic to me as having the player touch it as opposed to signing a bunch of sheets of the sticker, you know what I mean?
- 25:02[SPEAKER_03]: I want that player to work for that, I don't know.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_03]: They have to go through all those boxes inside them.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm sorry.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I don't know.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: I just doesn't deal with for me.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think the verdict is kind of clear and that's something that Gary I know Gary when he first got into the hobby a lot of what he was doing is he didn't understand this and I mean he said this on the show before so not speaking before him but he was like buying sticker all those and he didn't know you know and so you know it's a tough lesson to learn and again there may be people who say listen I'd rather have a sticker auto at a fraction of the calls because I want to collect it and that's fine for sure there's arguments for it you know we're not kind of not but I think
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: The industry is clear, you know, as far as the true collectors, like they're going to go after the on-card crumbs and stuff.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: So the second question here is a two-part question.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: What is one release every year that you guys look forward to?
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: And what would be your favorite release in the past five years?
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to give you guys time to think about it.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to let Nick go first on this one because I feel like I don't have a lot different of it for specta on this.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, no, we definitely will.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to get the weeds with it for my family.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, what do you say?
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: What do you look forward to?
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: What's your favorite?
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: Every year, of course, I think we can, we can all agree on this.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: We look forward to the three moments.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: Bowman, Bowman, Chrome, and Bowman draft.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: Those are definitely, kind of, my favorite to look forward to.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: But my favorite product released over the last five years came out recently.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think what fanatics is done with topstroyl to UFC and topstroyl to tennis.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_02]: is probably taking the cake for me is the two or the favorite kind of brand there that they're putting out of the last five years for me.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: Just the value, the cards, everything about it.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: I probably open ten cases of UFC royalty, personal, ten plus of royalty tennis as a personal and then countless breaks.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like for me, that's just been the best product.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: It reminds me of more of like, it's like a top dynasty.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_02]: but with the kind of new sports and with a little more higher in twist to it because you got your base cards regular memorabilia patch auto things like that too.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: So what's the kind of like talk about a little bit about the price point and kind of like the scarcity and what do you get in a pack?
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: So for the UFC it's like nine fifty to a thousand a box right now four box case.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you get four auto three or four auto's majority on card.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: Everything event used for the UFC and then it kind of has everybody on the checklist except a
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: couple of the big guys because you have seen another and we're as hard to get everybody to sign some guys are living all over the world so that's another on our little more difficult same with tennis same set up with the tennis but they have like the racket knob autos this year which is crazy those are cool those are really cool got a lot of stories about those too in a short time frame but yeah those have been one of my favorite offerings overall in sports is the racket knobs I've owned some sold some should have could have almost pulled some
- 27:48[SPEAKER_03]: By the way, if you ever want to hit a huge card, like guaranteed one of one huge card, just talk to Nick and buy from his LCS because his LCS hits every enormous card possible.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_03]: Every time.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_03]: Cooper Flag, one of one super right auto.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: And then the Carlos Alcaras royalty racket knob.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, both in cases that I was buying out of one case away.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_03]: One case the way each time.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_03]: My answer is going to be a boring answer, which is why I want that Nick to take that.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you guys on though that I'm a baseball guy and a Bowman guy.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like pick one, pick don't give me the three, pick one.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: You won't bump and you won't crum or you won't draft.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_03]: It really depends on the checklist and who I personally like.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_03]: It depends on the checklist.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think I get most excited for draft, but at the same time, like if like when Leo was in Bowman Chrome, I was really excited for Bowman Chrome.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_03]: You know, when twenty four Bowman came out of the extremely, I was extremely pumped for that with eight in Miller and, you know, Walker Jenkins and those guys,
- 28:52[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't know if this is recency bias, but I was really, really excited more so than any other release for twenty five moment, because I just love the checklist.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's really deep.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's really strong.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_03]: And again, I don't know whether it's recency bias, but I can't remember ripping as much wax as I did in twenty five moment in any other release.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm kind of judging it by that.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_03]: So honestly, I have to say twenty five moment.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: to kind of revise my answer there.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: I will just say regular Bowman historically has always been my favorite.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: Those have the guys.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_02]: Every time I've almost invested in last ten years, it's all came out of home.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, think about twenty three Bowman Roman Anthony, hose weight to Paula.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_03]: There's Spencer Jones in there, but then he got twenty four.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_03]: He got twenty four Bowman with eight in Miller, George Lombard, Arsion the Mala, Walker Jenkins, Dylan Cruz, and twenty five Bowman, Hazes Mada.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it got the lit.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_03]: It's your right.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be twenty.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: He got the men guys and wit.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: Twenty two.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: Ellie.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, James, came out of Bulman.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's it's interesting like Bowman seems to have kind of these big chasers.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's guys that like hold over from draft or international that didn't go Chrome and they strategically place those higher end guys those those projected guys into that product.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_01]: The problem with Bowman for me is when you're buying Bowman, you're getting other stuff.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's these base paper cards of show hay and trout and all this kind of stuff.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Not that that's bad.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's just those are ridiculously difficult cards to move.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: And so you're chrome cards are limited.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: Whereas when you get in like Bowman draft, every card in there is a prospect card, which I personally like because you're getting the energy.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: So from a standpoint, if you're opening, at least for me, if you're opening any wax,
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're going to do better on Bowman draft because even the paper firsts get a demand versus the paper that's in Bowman is rarely a first and you know the main it just kind of ends up being you know stuff that sells for eighty-nine cents or fifty cents or whatever that said the favorite product that I can remember was the first Bowman product that we got into at Hamhouse Sports and that was twenty-two draft.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: and it was Jackson holiday, Elijah Green, Jeff Williams, Sterling Thompson, and I remember we were like going down the chastity ladder, right?
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, chastity ladder.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_03]: Tomorrow, Jeff Williams, from our jet.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, the Chandler Simpson was in there, and it was so cool for us because it was our first on tray into Bowman, and it was draft.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: and we knew who had gotten drafted and so you're watching all these guys and I was amazed there's a picture and he was we were going after co-young who was a redemption in that product and we got into all of these team breaks for the for the mayor and we did not hit a single co-young but we hit a guy named Walter Ford
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: who was this pitcher, who was like late drafted at a high school, seventeen, eighteen-year-old kid or whatever, and we hit like a purple, and we sent it off the PSA and got it expressed, not expressed, but like, you know, whatever, the bulk value thing.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: We got it back.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: We sold that card at that time for like, two hundred and fifty bucks.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I was so flabbergasted that people would pay that for like a purple draft auto of this random picture.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: And now that card's selling for like, ten dollars.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: So like draft to me is so much fun, but if you are not super quick with it, like draft is where you get your lunch eaten.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yep, hundred percent.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's the prospecting game, but that's just, that's just me.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: People like to gamble.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: It can help you.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: So the next question is this, talking about flagship products versus side products, right?
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, the industry has changed so much because you've got the flagship brands and then you have all of these ancillary brands.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, people
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: kind of get into the antillary brands because they can't afford the flagship hobby boxes and stuff, but is there really any value there?
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: And the person that asked this question specifically brought up stadium club.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, you know, if you could get into tops, you know, series one or, you know, Chrome series one, whatever series two versus like a stadium club, like, you know, what are your, what are your kind of thoughts there?
- 33:20[SPEAKER_03]: Nick, take it away, man.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_03]: This is a new question.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, kind of for the price point.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, stadium club is a great.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'd say stadium clubs more geared for collectors, I guess.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: You get a couple hits.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: You get the short print image variation.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_02]: You get rookies.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, I guess as far as holding value long term, I mean, it's not top scroll, it's not ballman chrome.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's not those, but for just the, and you get all the fame models, veterans, rookies, I don't think anything.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's just a great collector brand.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of what keeps people if you can't spend five hundred on a hobby box.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_02]: You still want to buy something and kind of be in the game, have fun, have a chance at it.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think they're great products and without those.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: We lose a whole section of the hobby.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's the key.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's like once you get into the hobby, you start to understand kind of the tears of the hobby.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: And you look at like the premium brands, it's like anything else, whether it's sports cars or whether it's houses, real estate, watches, bourbon, whatever.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, there's these elusive like high end, you know, brands, you know, if you're talking bourbon, you're talking papy-ban Lincoln.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm sure we've all tasted that before, but like,
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: readily having bottles of papy in your house is not realistic unless you just have the right connections and you've been doing it a long time.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then you can, it's kind of like similar to y'all superfactor collection.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: But most folks, it's like, hey man, give me a buffalo trace.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: Give me a glance.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like same distillery.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: We'll still sip on it or whatever.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of parallel super interesting for folks.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: And like you said, Nick, it does keep the hobby alive.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: But definitely flagship is where the big boys play.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think that's just pretty obvious.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: You guys would be the two best people in the entire industry to ask this question to talk about the inflation of the one of one.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: And talk about the variations now of these one of ones and do the variation one of ones.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: Everything from, you know, the one of one and stuff all the way to like poppers.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: What do you guys think of?
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: I guess it's the overall inflation of it.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I've kind of seen every step of it as far as just like the super fractures and in the branch off, so all that kind of lived it, been through it all.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm not a fan of a lot of them, but I get why they're doing it.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: It makes total sense to have ten different one of ones because people, they gotta take something in the product.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_02]: After the main super gets hit, you still have a chance at three or four inserts or whatever.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: And if you go by sapphire, you still gotta chance to the couple different popmas.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: So it keeps the product alive in some aspects because some people still want it.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_02]: They enjoy it.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's not my cup of tea with all the just how many one of ones are out there of every single player.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's super water down, which I think only adds value to the main ones, which we're after, which I guess hurts us trying to get it because now it's a lot more expensive than it used to be five years ago to get a major super or pop up.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: logo man auto and in t immaculate flawless whatever this because other so water down now, but it's good for the hobby just because people can get that like you can afford a two hundred thousand dollar super you can a mic in a four to five k insert super and be happy with that yeah back to tier thing and availability
- 36:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think you said it well there.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think without those other one of ones.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I think it's kind of what keeps the products going.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, I think that's a, I mean, I think that's a given that it, you know, you got to have more than one chase of a particular player in a product.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_03]: Otherwise, once that card is hit, it's dead.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_03]: Like top chrome releases tomorrow.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_03]: Like the Jacob Wilson, top chrome super was already hit last night.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm sure there's some other one of ones in there.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_03]: But like if there wasn't, I mean,
- 36:59[SPEAKER_03]: Nobody's buying the A's and breaks.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: If you're chasing Oakland, nobody's buying that product.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, maybe yes, the high-end collectors aren't chasing that.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_03]: You're like who we're looking for.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: Is that the debut patch of the debut patch in this?
- 37:09[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, it's just the top-scrown rookie super auto.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_03]: The debut patches are in top-scrown update, which is usually in like November or something around there.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_03]: I did make an offer on the Jacob Wilson and he will come crawling back and regret it because I made an offer knowing what his ask was.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_03]: to somebody else got this new hobby and apparently he was saying he would let it go for no less than two hundred fifty thousand dollars uh... american what a deal american human dollars
- 37:42[SPEAKER_03]: So I made him an offer that was substantially higher than what I value it at because I wanted to see his reaction and I would have paid if he said yes, but I knew that he wouldn't see as based on the response to somebody else and he says he's gonna hold and sit on it for a little while and see so okay fine
- 37:59[SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, so you have to have more than more than one chase of a particular player to help that product go around.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's good for it.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_03]: I think it only like Nick said, I think it only adds value to the ones that we're chasing the moment first, so that's your top chrome rookie super auto.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_03]: So I do think it's a good thing.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_03]: I do sometimes think that it's
- 38:17[SPEAKER_03]: it's a little much when I see them and I kind of I guess I kind of feel that way when I it's more I see people trying to sell them for the price of a of the of the first boom in super when I want and I don't know I have bothers me even though I'm not in the market for it I don't know why I bothers me I guess it's because like people are people need to be more educated in that sense
- 38:38[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, I do see a lot of them, particularly in Nick, you'll be able to answer this question in Dynasty, which is a product that I do like.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_03]: There seems like there's so many one of ones because, like, two one at one, one Caminaro Nike patches, that's just like a bit different slightly, but it's the same one.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like, there's a lot of them in Dynasty.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_02]: The last like two or three years, they've definitely watered it down.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so it seems a little, you can't water it down.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: There's not enough of it made.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like now it's just too flooded.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, none of them, like I don't know which one is better.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_03]: Again, I'm not like deep into the product, but like I don't know which one is better or which one would be more sought after of a Nike a different type of Nike patch, but like that differs slightly, but like I don't know.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_03]: It just doesn't seem like if I owned one of them, I'd be like,
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: What this other one is so close that why is mine better is it not like and then you really have the same exact card there Yeah, it's like if it's not the logo man auto it just kind of gets real gray after that Yeah, yeah, you have seven different laundry tags are just a regular patch a low I guess a logo patch would probably trump that like on a trout like an angel's logo would be sick.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'd rather yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah
- 39:51[SPEAKER_02]: So there's eight different ones, like, yeah.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_03]: So that just from kind of looking outside, like, it feels like it's the one ones are a little watered down in the dynasty front to me.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, they decided to water it down heavily as opposed to the past couple.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: Think though, I think there's a move by the industry to appeal to those opening wax.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like these people want to feel like they hit something unique.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's what that's for.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's not necessarily for the collector per se.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: The collector is going after the
- 40:22[SPEAKER_01]: high-end stuff, but the reality is is that so much of this stuff transacts behind the scenes before anybody ever sees it, that people open in the box would never have any other chance to get it, right?
- 40:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to make a correlation, because this closes up the last question here, is how do you guys get these cards?
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I live in North Carolina, and North Carolina is a controlled state when it comes to alcohol sales.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: And during the pandemic,
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: the bourbon boom was very real because we have an allocated state where the state has to sell product at MSRP.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: So you're talking like a hundred and fifty dollars for a bottle of pappy van winkle that does two thousand dollars on the secondary market okay and what it did because there's a limited allocation when those bottles would hit those stores you would have a line that would be literally
- 41:15[SPEAKER_01]: three hundred people long waiting to get in that door to get whatever came on that shipment because these these products are going for all kinds of money on the secondary market and again the truth is unless you have a connection unless you just get lucky in the lottery you're never going to see them and so similar in this kind of case like how do you guys go about acquiring these cards
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: I know for me, like I said earlier, kind of just stay on eBay, whatnot, Instagram, Facebook, Lucky, like kind of like all of us here, like we'll tell each other we're looking for something in specific.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: So now you got multiple eyes looking for it for you, which can't be everywhere it wants so it's nice to have some help.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_02]: But also just knowing the breakers helps and just kind of having the personal relationships with a lot of these guys.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: So they didn't hit it, they know somebody to hit it.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: And if they know you're after it, they'll kind of funnel it over to you.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think it comes down to a lot of those things that didn't just mention, I'll just reiterate, you know, like for me, you know, having other people's eyes and ears out who are in breaks when that card is hit to alert me right away, you know, for me part of the reason at a lot of the time I didn't realize it, but you know, building my online presence on Instagram, at least, was to hopefully people would come to me when they hit these cards knowing that I'm in the market for them.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_03]: And one of the reasons for showcasing the one on one is it's not to say, you know, FQ, but it's more like, hey, come to me when you hit these cards.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_03]: So I can have the opportunity to purchase them without having to go source them, which you still have to do, but you know, a lot of people will come now.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_03]: So that's like part of the reason for the online presence.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's really, as Nick said, yes, eBay and all that stuff.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_03]: I like for me, it's more like I don't like to buy cards when they're on eBay.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's relationship with relationships with breakers so you could tell them what you're looking for and having eyes and ears out for you in the in the break rooms because a lot of that stuff is going down there or somebody who's on Twitter.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_03]: who hits a personal box, and sometimes it goes down that way, somebody sees it, knows you're looking for it, like Dick mentioned, and boom, be attack.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: And you also have to be comfortable with the process, like, I mean, these are how do we call Bible cards, you know, the payment mechanisms and the communications and the shipping, like all of those things matter.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of people don't get in that game, because they don't have that level of risk tolerance, and they're not familiar with it.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: So they're like, I would never, you know, wire this or do this or whatever.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_03]: And also it comes down to, I mean, Nick, you know, this too, like,
- 43:42[SPEAKER_03]: We talk about this all the time.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_03]: You have to come in strong with an offer on the super.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_03]: Nowadays, with social media, when this is going to be put out there right away, you're the only one that knows that this person hit that card.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_03]: You have to come strong and you have to pay for somewhat of that upside, usually, at the get go when that card is hit, because otherwise you're not getting that card.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to have the same offer that everybody else is having.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly exactly right.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, the national is a week away from today.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we'll have one more recording that will drop the Wednesday of national, but we're all going to be any kind of thoughts on the national and wanting to connect with our listeners and viewers while we're there.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just looking forward to.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_03]: I'll be out there Wednesday to Friday.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just looking forward to chatting it up with you guys and seeing some familiar faces, meeting some new people that have dealt with before.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_03]: That's that's what the nationalist for me.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_03]: It's really just kind of a networking opportunity and catch up opportunity.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: Not looking to go buy anything specifically or sell anything specifically, but just looking to go chat it up.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: Who's data Sunday?
- 44:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I have a week all week kind of doing the same things meeting people network and working with all while I'm there not really looking to buy anything I've been going since twenty sixteen and each year I may be by one or two cards I've kind of described it as Instagram and person the last
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_03]: That's a good description.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_03]: What about you?
- 45:18[SPEAKER_01]: Who are you?
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Steve.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: What's your Instagram name?
- 45:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_03]: You have to introduce yourself by Instagram name.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we, we current, I'm excited.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have some drip.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have like drip.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: This sound of that.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have some drip.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to have some more.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Tell me more cards.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you got the sports card CEO swag, baby.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_03]: Hmm.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_03]: I got some swag for us.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to be.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_03]: I got some Bowman farmer shirts.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm bringing some rakes.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to sell rakes for thirty five dollars.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: Son, son, Bob Bubba.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: But by the way, when I was in Georgia, I got to check out in person with my own eyes, the Bowman farm.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's a super super cool spot.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: Gary Gary and his family were just super hospitable to the boys and I and we had an absolute blast.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I told him I was like, well, we're going to have to have like a live in person video shoot from the Bowman farm at some point in time.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're going to have to go down there.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it like a bone and release and get some cases.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: Hopefully we're going to discuss this, Matt and I and hopefully we can work something out of the national where we can maybe do a recording live there or just kind of see how we can get set up and maybe do something cool there.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_03]: You know, be sure to keep everybody posted on social if we're planning to do that.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_03]: So Kavasi, hello.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure for all of our listeners and viewers, like stay in touch for those that are going like I said, say, say, hey, uh, definitely connect them, but Nick, man, really appreciate you jumping on Nick Tucker.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_02]: Dash horts on Instagram and eBay.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for watching.
