- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the Richard Sherman podcast and what a game
- 0:03Speaker 1: between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts. Indiana
- 0:07Speaker 1: Jones had a really solid game, an early turnover which
- 0:11Speaker 1: led to some points for the Kansas City Chiefs. That
- 0:14Speaker 1: was the first points for the Chiefs. Before then, it
- 0:17Speaker 1: seemed like the Indianapolis Colts may have the Kansas City
- 0:21Speaker 1: Chiefs figured out. In this game, I felt like Jonathan Taylor,
- 0:27Speaker 1: looked good. Jonathan Taylor, this Indianapolis Colts offensive line, they
- 0:31Speaker 1: did what the Denver Broncos could not do. They controlled
- 0:34Speaker 1: the game on the ground. On the ground, they played
- 0:37Speaker 1: some solid defense. I mean, I can't call it great defense.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You can't call anything great defense when Patrick Mahomes has
- 0:43Speaker 1: 387 yards and three touchdowns passing, 114 passer rating. He
- 0:45Speaker 1: was 32 of 47. A fantastic game. And Kenneth Walker,
- 0:54Speaker 1: this is what's going to make the Kansas City Chiefs
- 0:57Speaker 1: so freaking dangerous and so dangerous for every team in
- 1:00Speaker 1: the AFC come playoff time. Because last week, Patrick Mahomes
- 1:05Speaker 1: was off. And it was Kenneth Walker. You got a
- 1:08Speaker 1: steady dose of Kenneth Walker. Today, Patrick Mahomes was not
- 1:12Speaker 1: off at all. And he fed everybody. Travis Kelsey, nine
- 1:15Speaker 1: catches for 101 yards. Turn back the hands of time.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Young man. I was at his wedding. Maybe he got
- 1:24Speaker 1: his groove back. I thought I saw him on the
- 1:26Speaker 1: dance floor cutting up a rug, and it looks like
- 1:28Speaker 1: he still got enough to lead these Kansas City Chiefs.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Tyquan Thornton, 4 for 86, a huge play late in
- 1:36Speaker 1: that game to get him in scoring position. Rasheed Rice
- 1:39Speaker 1: had some big plays, 4 for 83. And then Kenneth Walker,
- 1:42Speaker 1: 6 for 61 in the past game. Had a great
- 1:47Speaker 1: play in overtime. Patrick Mahomes just kind of tossed it
- 1:50Speaker 1: to him. Playmaking ability. He's such a factor. I think
- 1:54Speaker 1: he had almost 178 all-purpose yards in this game. Just
- 1:59Speaker 1: an incredible addition for the Kansas City Chiefs, who are
- 2:03Speaker 1: perennial Super Bowl contenders. Always in it. Before last year,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I think they were in five of the last six
- 2:10Speaker 1: Super Bowls. So we will call it five of the
- 2:13Speaker 1: last seven. And For them to add a Super Bowl
- 2:17Speaker 1: MVP to that lineup, a guy that's so dynamic, so explosive,
- 2:21Speaker 1: looks like he's on pace for over 1,000 yards, he
- 2:25Speaker 1: would be the first 1,000-yard rusher Patrick Mahomes has ever
- 2:29Speaker 1: had his entire Kansas City career. That would be huge.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But in this game, it was a dogfight. There were
- 2:35Speaker 1: a lot of plays, some controversial plays that Laquan Treadwell, Ketch, Bobble,
- 2:45Speaker 1: Did LeJarius Sneed touch him? Did he not touch him?
- 2:48Speaker 1: I don't know. You know, I think that's one of
- 2:50Speaker 1: those things people were like, oh, man, the Chiefs catch
- 2:52Speaker 1: all the breaks. Of course he didn't touch him. Oh, man,
- 2:55Speaker 1: they should have called this. Look, I understand. I understand.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You feel like they catch all the breaks. This one,
- 3:01Speaker 1: they earned it. They earned this game. They earned it,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and they had to earn it in overtime, and they
- 3:06Speaker 1: earned it with execution. Andy Reid, still one of the
- 3:08Speaker 1: best played callers. I feel like we just... I don't
- 3:13Speaker 1: know if we've gotten bored or we just lose sight
- 3:15Speaker 1: of Andy Reid sometimes. I mean, last year, maybe last
- 3:18Speaker 1: year was just a down year. Patrick Mahomes got banged up.
- 3:21Speaker 1: You know, they didn't have the best record. And it
- 3:23Speaker 1: was like, oh, man, the Chiefs are finally going away. Well,
- 3:25Speaker 1: they're back. They're back like they have never left. And, again,
- 3:30Speaker 1: these young guys in their secondary, these young guys back there.
- 3:35Speaker 1: No Williams. I really like no Williams. I like the
- 3:38Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs anytime they have a– Arias. Arias. You
- 3:46Speaker 1: want to know what I mean? Y'all don't hear me.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Y'all don't hear me. Arias. Like, when the Kansas City
- 3:51Speaker 1: Chiefs have a Charverius or a Legarius, an Arias, they
- 3:57Speaker 1: usually end up in that last game. They usually end
- 4:00Speaker 1: up in that last game. Don't quote me on this
- 4:03Speaker 1: because they've done it with McDuffie. They've done it with
- 4:05Speaker 1: Christian Watson. But when they have an Arias back there
- 4:10Speaker 1: and they secondary it, They've had Charverius Ward and LeJarius Sneed,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and both of them were at 3-8. They end up
- 4:19Speaker 1: somehow in that last game. So if I was the AFC,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I would be careful. And when Patrick Mahomes is playing
- 4:26Speaker 1: this way and Andy Reid is calling it, and then
- 4:29Speaker 1: you got that Swiss Army knife in the backfield that
- 4:32Speaker 1: can go yard at any time, and then you got
- 4:35Speaker 1: those speedsters on the edge, and then Rasheed Rice, and
- 4:37Speaker 1: then Travis want to get his groove back with his
- 4:40Speaker 1: wifey up there in the stands. Boy, watch out. But again,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I think this was a great showing for the Indianapolis Colts.
- 4:48Speaker 1: They had a chance in this game. They had moments
- 4:50Speaker 1: where they probably should have took a little bit more
- 4:52Speaker 1: of a risk and won this game, but they did not.
- 4:55Speaker 1: The Kansas City Chiefs are back. Everybody needs to be aware,
- 4:58Speaker 1: and yes, they're going to stay in my power ranking.
- 5:00Speaker 1: But let's bring in Mitch to talk about the rest
- 5:02Speaker 1: of these games. What a great week of football, Mitchell.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Make sure you like and subscribe. I love the way
- 5:14Speaker 1: this week went. You know, some upsets, some almost upsets,
- 5:18Speaker 1: some surprise wins, some surprise 2-0 teams. But obviously, we're
- 5:23Speaker 1: going to start with that Seattle Seahawks versus the Arizona
- 5:26Speaker 1: Cardinals game. Mitchell, Drew Locke, JSN for the win. Three
- 5:32Speaker 1: touchdowns for the two of them. I mean, in different ways.
- 5:35Speaker 1: They started off with a double move early in the game.
- 5:38Speaker 1: 82-yarder to JSN. JSN did the rest. Drew Locke. His
- 5:42Speaker 1: confidence just grew exponentially as the game progressed. It was
- 5:46Speaker 1: incredible to watch. They had some, some mishaps to, uh,
- 5:51Speaker 1: young Judarian price fumbled in the game, you know, things
- 5:53Speaker 1: they can learn from, um, you know, they only gave
- 5:57Speaker 1: up seven points. I love that about this week too.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Just great defense throughout the league. Finally, people are deciding
- 6:03Speaker 1: week two, we're going to play some defense and hold
- 6:06Speaker 1: some guys to single digits. And I love that Seattle
- 6:09Speaker 1: continues to be one of the best defenses in the league. Um,
- 6:12Speaker 1: Had some leaky yardage early, but got it figured out
- 6:15Speaker 1: in a big way. Emmanuel Wilson, 21 carries for 92 yards.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Just kept chopping wood. Just kept chopping wind. It was
- 6:22Speaker 1: great to see Rasheed Shaheed got a little bit more involved.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Six targets in the game. But again, they just got
- 6:27Speaker 1: to keep working on that connection. I'm still looking for
- 6:30Speaker 1: him to have a big game. He also had a
- 6:32Speaker 1: fumble in the game. That ended up being a big return.
- 6:36Speaker 1: He fumbled. I think it was Sherratt picked the ball up,
- 6:40Speaker 1: continued the return. put the Seahawks in scoring position. Just,
- 6:45Speaker 1: I mean, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, Mitchell.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, be in
- 6:50Speaker 1: the right place at the right time. Sometimes it's just
- 6:53Speaker 1: your time, and that's what it seemed like. But I
- 6:56Speaker 1: want to talk about this defense and the playmakers they have.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Leonard Williams, six tackles, one sack, two TFLs, a quarterback hit,
- 7:05Speaker 1: continues to be great. But Julian Love, nobody talks about
- 7:09Speaker 1: Julian Love enough. He has an interception in back-to-back games.
- 7:14Speaker 1: The first game against the New England Patriots, I mean,
- 7:16Speaker 1: it was an incredible play. He's disguised it. He was
- 7:19Speaker 1: the middle run-through player. He was able to bait Drake
- 7:23Speaker 1: May into a pass, picked it off. This week, it
- 7:27Speaker 1: looked like he was the middle field safety and just
- 7:29Speaker 1: had great range, got where he needed to get, made
- 7:32Speaker 1: a huge play. And again, nobody talks about him enough.
- 7:36Speaker 1: He's in the run game. He tackles well in open space.
- 7:39Speaker 1: He's one of the commanders of that defense. He does
- 7:42Speaker 1: a phenomenal job. I really think if people are paying attention,
- 7:46Speaker 1: this is going to be Julian Love's all-pro season. No
- 7:48Speaker 1: question about that. If he continues to play the way
- 7:50Speaker 1: he has. Jaron Reed had a sack in his game
- 7:54Speaker 1: where he just bullied the guard. And then he grabbed
- 7:57Speaker 1: him like you grab your little brother as you're passing by.
- 8:00Speaker 1: You know, you're wrestling with somebody, you grab your little
- 8:01Speaker 1: brother like this. And he brought the quarterback down to
- 8:04Speaker 1: the ground. That was really cool to see. this defense
- 8:07Speaker 1: just continues to impress, just a steady course of consistency,
- 8:12Speaker 1: held Arizona to seven points, and again, it looked like
- 8:15Speaker 1: a game early on, Arizona was making some plays, their
- 8:17Speaker 1: defense was holding strong, but a healthy dose of JSN
- 8:22Speaker 1: and Drew Locke broke this game open.
- 8:24Speaker 2: No question about it, and that defense, as you said,
- 8:26Speaker 2: they just allowed 151 total yards to Arizona today, it
- 8:28Speaker 2: was like Arizona, they had so much life coming into
- 8:33Speaker 2: this game, right? They beat the Chargers. They go on
- 8:35Speaker 2: the road in week one. That fan base is saying,
- 8:38Speaker 2: maybe we got something here. You know, you get young
- 8:40Speaker 2: Jeremiah Love there. Obviously, Michael Wilson is there. Questions are
- 8:44Speaker 2: starting to arise with Marvin Harrison Jr., though, Richard. I
- 8:47Speaker 2: don't know if it's a mental thing. Has he completely
- 8:51Speaker 2: lost his confidence? Or is he just an overall bust?
- 8:55Speaker 2: He was so good in Ohio State. I had no
- 8:58Speaker 2: doubt he was going to be a star in this league.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And I am wrong. Richard, is there any way to
- 9:02Speaker 2: remedy these struggles for Marvin Harrison Jr., the former top
- 9:06Speaker 2: five pick?
- 9:09Speaker 1: The only way I know to remedy these kind of
- 9:11Speaker 1: struggles is to feed him the football. And they're not
- 9:14Speaker 1: trying to do that. It doesn't seem like they're involving
- 9:16Speaker 1: him much in the offense. They're not designing plays to
- 9:19Speaker 1: kind of generate confidence for him. I don't know. I
- 9:24Speaker 1: really don't know. I think something has to be wrong.
- 9:27Speaker 1: It seems like he's losing confidence. I mean, you look
- 9:29Speaker 1: at him, he looked dejected on the sideline. That's something
- 9:32Speaker 1: I don't understand. A guy you spend such high draft
- 9:35Speaker 1: capital on, you wouldn't think they would give up on
- 9:38Speaker 1: him this soon. Obviously, the physical traits are still there.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So I don't know if we can just label him
- 9:45Speaker 1: a bust. I know everybody's really quick to label guys
- 9:47Speaker 1: bust these days, but I don't know if I'm ready
- 9:49Speaker 1: to go there yet, but definitely concerning. But a person
- 9:53Speaker 1: whose stock is on the rise, that's Drew lock i
- 9:57Speaker 1: mean drew lock looked like he was in incredible command
- 9:59Speaker 1: in this game uh accurate with the football even off
- 10:03Speaker 1: his back foot he was backing away making good decisions
- 10:06Speaker 1: i think you know sometimes quarterbacks have different growth moments
- 10:10Speaker 1: and different maturity levels and different times where they start
- 10:13Speaker 1: to figure it out and and the game starts slowing
- 10:15Speaker 1: down for them and maybe Brian Fleury and the way
- 10:18Speaker 1: he's designed this offense. I think people forget this is
- 10:21Speaker 1: a new offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks. It's going
- 10:23Speaker 1: to take a second first time play caller and he
- 10:26Speaker 1: is doing a magnificent job, especially in the second half,
- 10:29Speaker 1: drawing up these plays. The Seahawks have five touchdowns this
- 10:34Speaker 1: season over two games and four of those touchdowns went
- 10:37Speaker 1: to JSN. When you have the reigning offensive player of
- 10:41Speaker 1: the year, he gets a lot of attention. So for
- 10:43Speaker 1: them to be able to scheme things JSN open when
- 10:47Speaker 1: everybody in the stadium, in their grandmother, knows the ball
- 10:51Speaker 1: is going to Jackson Smith and Jigba, and he continues
- 10:54Speaker 1: to be productive. He's the best receiver in the National
- 10:57Speaker 1: Football League. I know there are people that are going
- 10:59Speaker 1: to argue Jamar Chase is the guy, and Jamar Chase
- 11:02Speaker 1: deserves his flowers, deserves all the credit, deserves first-team All-Pro.
- 11:05Speaker 1: But nobody's doing what JSN is doing right now. Nobody
- 11:10Speaker 1: in the league. I mean, where else is this offense going?
- 11:15Speaker 1: Without him on the field, Mitchell, I don't know if
- 11:17Speaker 1: they win both of those games. And he is single-handedly
- 11:21Speaker 1: taking over these games. Now, they have great pieces around him.
- 11:25Speaker 1: They have a great offensive line that's playing good football
- 11:28Speaker 1: right now and protecting Drew Locke in a big way.
- 11:30Speaker 1: They deserve credit. In year two, they're starting to jail
- 11:34Speaker 1: and figure it out. But you've got to give credit
- 11:36Speaker 1: where it's due.
- 11:37Speaker 2: No doubt about it. And Richard, I got news for you.
- 11:39Speaker 2: JSN has always been that guy. You go back to
- 11:42Speaker 2: all his Ohio State days. In the Rose Bowl against
- 11:45Speaker 2: the Utah Utes, he had 15 receptions for 347 yards.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I mean, this guy's been doing it since college. It
- 11:52Speaker 2: was shocking to me he fell in the draft like
- 11:54Speaker 2: he did. The Seahawks got an absolute steal. And you know,
- 11:58Speaker 2: it's funny because a couple weeks ago I said JSN's
- 12:01Speaker 2: a top five receiver and I got roasted in the
- 12:03Speaker 2: comments section by the Seattle fan base saying, Apparently that
- 12:06Speaker 2: wasn't good enough. And you're right, Richard. He's certainly in
- 12:09Speaker 2: the conversation for the best wide receiver in this league
- 12:12Speaker 2: right now. What he does, yards after catch, is remarkable.
- 12:15Speaker 2: He's one of the most sure-handed wideouts in the league.
- 12:17Speaker 2: His ability to separate and get open at all times.
- 12:21Speaker 2: What a huge safety blanket for this team. And kudos
- 12:23Speaker 2: to Drew Locke as well. Again, we talked about it.
- 12:26Speaker 2: He's a guy that was drafted at Denver, given an opportunity,
- 12:30Speaker 2: and essentially run out of the building. And we've seen
- 12:32Speaker 2: it time and again over these last few years. where
- 12:35Speaker 2: these guys come in and get a second opportunity and
- 12:38Speaker 2: rejuvenate their career, I think we could be seeing the
- 12:40Speaker 2: same thing from Drew Locke. I don't know what his
- 12:42Speaker 2: contract is like, but I have to imagine after this year,
- 12:46Speaker 2: people are going to be looking for him as a
- 12:47Speaker 2: potential starting quarterback option going forward with what he's been
- 12:50Speaker 2: able to do these last two weeks.
- 12:54Speaker 1: No question about it. That's the cool thing about this
- 12:56Speaker 1: league is whenever you get a shot, you just have
- 12:58Speaker 1: to be ready for your moment. And if you're a
- 13:00Speaker 1: backup quarterback and you're a starter, that's why the backup quarterback–
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's not an important position until it is. Until you're
- 13:07Speaker 1: a Super Bowl contender or the reigning Super Bowl champs
- 13:10Speaker 1: and your starting quarterback gets hurt the first series of
- 13:12Speaker 1: the game and who is your backup? Nobody cares who
- 13:15Speaker 1: your backup is until they do. And Drew Locke has
- 13:18Speaker 1: shown up in a big way for the Seattle Seahawks.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I'm sure Mike McDonald is incredibly happy with his performance.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I'm sure he's reaping praise onto him. His team is
- 13:27Speaker 1: playing as well as anybody in the National Football League.
- 13:30Speaker 1: This is why they are number one in my power rankings.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I hear people all the time, well, they just lost
- 13:34Speaker 1: their starting quarterback. How are they number one? Because they're
- 13:37Speaker 1: still the best team in the National Football League. In
- 13:40Speaker 1: order to knock the champs off, you got to beat
- 13:42Speaker 1: the champs. I know people had the Rams and then
- 13:45Speaker 1: Baltimore and then the Kansas City Chiefs, now the Buffalo Bills, everybody.
- 13:49Speaker 1: But again, I hear all that conjecture. But until the
- 13:53Speaker 1: champs are beaten, They will not move off this number
- 13:56Speaker 1: one spot. Now, there will be some movement in between
- 13:59Speaker 1: behind them, but I give Mike McDonald a ton of
- 14:03Speaker 1: credit for what he's able to do. I give this offense,
- 14:05Speaker 1: this defense, that if they get the credit they deserve,
- 14:08Speaker 1: will be filled with all pros. Even with losing starting safety,
- 14:14Speaker 1: losing Boye Mafe, losing the MVP of the Super Bowl,
- 14:20Speaker 1: who had a heck of a day, K-9 Kenneth Walker.
- 14:22Speaker 1: For the Kansas City Chiefs the other night, I'm sure
- 14:24Speaker 1: he's going to have a heck of a night tonight.
- 14:26Speaker 1: They just continue to persevere. They scored 31 in this game,
- 14:32Speaker 1: and a lot of it was a number 11.
- 14:34Speaker 2: No doubt. And Richard, they get to take on the
- 14:36Speaker 2: Washington Commanders next week, who obviously are looking like they're
- 14:39Speaker 2: going to be without Jaden Daniels for a while now.
- 14:42Speaker 2: So the Seahawks have a good opportunity to beat 3-0
- 14:46Speaker 2: after next week. Let's go to the number two team
- 14:49Speaker 2: in your power ranks. That's the San Francisco 49ers. They
- 14:52Speaker 2: take care of business against the Dolphins, 35-13. Brock Purdy
- 14:58Speaker 2: had a near-perfect performance, Richard. 20-22, 287 yards, two touchdowns.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Got it done on the ground as well with three
- 15:05Speaker 2: carries for 30 yards and a touchdown. What did you
- 15:08Speaker 2: like about what San Francisco did today in this dominant victory?
- 15:14Speaker 1: Huh, what did I like the most? Brock Purdy. Brock Purdy,
- 15:17Speaker 1: if Brock Purdy was 6'5, and could throw it 70 yards,
- 15:22Speaker 1: people would say he's the best quarterback in the National
- 15:24Speaker 1: Football League. Mitchell, no question about it. Or they'd be
- 15:26Speaker 1: debating it. They'd be debating it between him and Josh
- 15:29Speaker 1: Allen or Joe Burrell or Patrick Mahomes. They'd be putting
- 15:32Speaker 1: him in that conversation. The fact he was number, the
- 15:35Speaker 1: last overall pick, mystery, relevant, and all that works against him.
- 15:39Speaker 1: The fact he doesn't have elite measurables in the way
- 15:42Speaker 1: that people want to see him is working against him.
- 15:45Speaker 1: But if you just look at the stat sheet and
- 15:47Speaker 1: you don't know who he is and you just imagine
- 15:50Speaker 1: Put Justin Herbert's frame and build and measurables on him
- 15:55Speaker 1: and then read off his accomplishments. And then people would say,
- 15:58Speaker 1: oh my God, this guy is the guy. One of
- 16:00Speaker 1: the greatest quarterbacks to play in the National Football League.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Had such an efficient day today. Almost perfect, almost perfect
- 16:07Speaker 1: quarterback rating today. I think he had an intentional grounding
- 16:11Speaker 1: that knocked it off. But out of the hundred points
- 16:16Speaker 1: you get, Mitchell, let me get this right. Because I
- 16:20Speaker 1: don't want to, you know, I want to give him
- 16:22Speaker 1: his flowers. His QBR was 97.9 out of 100. You
- 16:30Speaker 1: guys can look up what that means, but it means
- 16:32Speaker 1: he is balling. And he balled out against the Rams.
- 16:37Speaker 1: So I know people will jump down my throat and say,
- 16:40Speaker 1: they played the youngest team in the National Football League
- 16:42Speaker 1: in the Miami Dolphins. Nobody's expecting anything from the Miami Dolphins. Well,
- 16:45Speaker 1: they played the Rams last week. And they were saying
- 16:48Speaker 1: this is the greatest defense in the world. on paper
- 16:51Speaker 1: to ever grace the field and shredded them to 27
- 16:54Speaker 1: to seven. And so he shreds the Miami dolphins the
- 16:58Speaker 1: same way. I mean, master splinter shredder. I mean, this
- 17:02Speaker 1: isn't the Ninja turtles Mitchell, but he's getting it done
- 17:04Speaker 1: in a big way. And guys keep getting banged up.
- 17:06Speaker 1: They lose DeMarcus Robinson today. Mike Evans has a, has
- 17:10Speaker 1: a hip issue. He was questionable at the end of
- 17:12Speaker 1: the game, but it didn't matter. You, if you watch
- 17:15Speaker 1: the game, You wouldn't have known who was hurt because
- 17:18Speaker 1: he was distributing the ball to whoever was out there,
- 17:20Speaker 1: and I think he does not get enough credit for that.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I know everybody's like, he has all these elite weapons
- 17:25Speaker 1: and Kyle Shanahan and George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey, and
- 17:29Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, but a lot of it doesn't work
- 17:31Speaker 1: without him. And there's a reason he's won as many
- 17:36Speaker 1: games as he has. In short, Kyle Shanahan's a big
- 17:39Speaker 1: part of that, but if you look at Justin Herbert
- 17:42Speaker 1: down in L.A., I mean... Mike McDaniel is a good
- 17:46Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, good play caller, good guy to draw up
- 17:49Speaker 1: the scheme. He struggled, still struggling this year. Lost multiple
- 17:54Speaker 1: games in a row, just lost to the Raiders. And
- 17:56Speaker 1: I know you could say, oh, man, his O-line isn't
- 17:58Speaker 1: doing enough for him. And maybe they aren't. But those things,
- 18:02Speaker 1: like the excuses that work for thee, doesn't work for
- 18:05Speaker 1: Brock Purdy. And that's where I get confused and frustrated because–
- 18:09Speaker 1: Brock Purdy is playing at an elite level. He's a
- 18:11Speaker 1: top five quarterback in the National Football League. By every
- 18:16Speaker 1: objective stat, every objective stat, he's a top five quarterback
- 18:19Speaker 1: in the National Football League. But the subjective issue is
- 18:23Speaker 1: where he falls short. He was 20 of 22 today, 287,
- 18:27Speaker 1: two touchdowns, 149 rating. He was not sacked. So great
- 18:33Speaker 1: job to the San Francisco 49ers offensive line. I said
- 18:36Speaker 1: before the season, the reason they weren't in the same
- 18:39Speaker 1: tier as the Niners and the Rams coming into the
- 18:42Speaker 1: season was the questions in that interior offensive line. Mitchell,
- 18:47Speaker 1: they have answered them in a big way. They have
- 18:49Speaker 1: been incredibly solid over the first two games. And I
- 18:52Speaker 1: know the Miami game doesn't tell us a ton, but
- 18:55Speaker 1: the first game does. They were without Chop Robinson. They
- 18:59Speaker 1: didn't have a ton of pass rushing involved. They're a
- 19:04Speaker 1: team rebuilding. But the Rams did, and they played very
- 19:08Speaker 1: well against the Rams. They played incredibly well against the
- 19:11Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins. I have to give them credit. If you're
- 19:13Speaker 1: going to criticize people, you have to give them credit.
- 19:15Speaker 1: They are playing great football, protecting Brock Purdy, opening holes.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey, they didn't run the ball well today. That's
- 19:24Speaker 1: the only knock you could put on this game. They
- 19:27Speaker 1: did not run the ball well, but congratulations to Christian McCaffrey.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Gets his 100th career touchdown, 50th with the San Francisco 49ers,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I think he's one of the few players in the
- 19:37Speaker 1: National Football League's history that has 50 touchdowns with multiple franchises.
- 19:41Speaker 1: One of the greatest players to ever play this game,
- 19:43Speaker 1: so congrats to him. Congrats to George Kittle. Four targets,
- 19:47Speaker 1: four catches, 80 yards, a touchdown, a long of 40.
- 19:50Speaker 1: 40 yards. It was great to watch him coming out
- 19:52Speaker 1: of the half. They fed him on that drive. He
- 19:54Speaker 1: had a 40-yard catch and then caught the seven cut
- 19:57Speaker 1: from Brock Purdy. That was great. Deebo Samuel made an
- 20:02Speaker 1: impact in this game. Didn't do a ton. Kyle Hustek,
- 20:05Speaker 1: all the things you don't see. but got some targets,
- 20:08Speaker 1: had a touchdown in this game. Again, they didn't run
- 20:11Speaker 1: the ball well on the ground at all, but all
- 20:14Speaker 1: pro threat continues to show out, continues to make his
- 20:18Speaker 1: Hall of Fame case. Five tackles, half a sack, a
- 20:20Speaker 1: forced fumble, a quarterback hit, up then stout. It's starting
- 20:24Speaker 1: to really, really take another step up and starting to
- 20:27Speaker 1: play elite football, just playing with confidence, playing really fast
- 20:30Speaker 1: in the run game, in the fast game. Romello Height
- 20:33Speaker 1: gets his first sack in the game. This defense looks good.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And Raheem Morris is doing a great job putting guys
- 20:40Speaker 1: in a position to thrive. Jair Brown, 12 tackles in
- 20:44Speaker 1: the game. Had a TFL in the game. Grayson Holton. Like, wow. Wow. Like,
- 20:54Speaker 1: you talk about found gold, found money, Mitchell. A guy,
- 20:58Speaker 1: when you came into this season, you were expecting Alfred Collins,
- 21:03Speaker 1: Mikael Williams, those guys to get healthy. and do a
- 21:07Speaker 1: good thing, and Houghton had five tackles, a TFL in
- 21:11Speaker 1: this game, and just looked dominant, looked dominant. Now, maybe it's, again,
- 21:16Speaker 1: the Miami Dolphins, and they're overwhelmed, but guys are starting
- 21:19Speaker 1: to play with so much confidence. They're playing fast, and obviously,
- 21:22Speaker 1: they scored 13 points, but it wasn't going to be 13.
- 21:26Speaker 1: They gave up a big score at the end, a
- 21:30Speaker 1: blunder of a play, but San Francisco 49ers look good.
- 21:33Speaker 1: They're actually number three in my power rankings right now
- 21:35Speaker 1: behind the Buffalo Bills, but they could easily be number two.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I think I might just be predicting the future on
- 21:40Speaker 2: that one, Richard. This team has made me a complete
- 21:44Speaker 2: believer in them again. I mean, I had my doubts,
- 21:47Speaker 2: much like you did coming into this season when you
- 21:49Speaker 2: see there was a little bit of a gap between
- 21:52Speaker 2: San Francisco and Seattle. I think San Francisco has closed
- 21:55Speaker 2: that gap, and it's thanks to Brock Purdy. I mean,
- 21:58Speaker 2: he was clinical out there today. Um, he did a
- 22:01Speaker 2: heck of a job, but this, this front office from
- 22:04Speaker 2: top down, the way this organization is built, everyone's clicking
- 22:07Speaker 2: on all cylinders. I mean, John Lutz did a great,
- 22:10Speaker 2: great job this off season, bringing him Mike Evans, bringing
- 22:13Speaker 2: back Debo Samuel. I think, you know, resetting the tone
- 22:18Speaker 2: in San Francisco and for them to go out and
- 22:20Speaker 2: beat the Rams in week one and take care of
- 22:22Speaker 2: business like everyone expected them to today, but in dominant fashion,
- 22:26Speaker 2: it's very impressive. And I think to rewind a couple
- 22:29Speaker 2: of years, because I think if other franchises were in
- 22:32Speaker 2: the same situation the Niners were when they drafted Trey
- 22:36Speaker 2: Lance and traded all their picks and essentially mortgaged their
- 22:40Speaker 2: future for this guy, and everything goes south with that,
- 22:44Speaker 2: incredible job bringing up, some might call it luck, but
- 22:47Speaker 2: being able to acquire Brock Purdy and trust this guy
- 22:51Speaker 2: at a young age. I mean, Richard, talk about a
- 22:54Speaker 2: complete pivot because it could have gone really bad. And
- 22:57Speaker 2: then in terms of Christian McCaffrey, I don't know how
- 23:00Speaker 2: many guys in NFL history have their jersey retired with
- 23:03Speaker 2: multiple teams, but I got to believe Christian McCaffrey hitting
- 23:07Speaker 2: 50 touchdowns with the Niners, he certainly belongs in that
- 23:10Speaker 2: ring of honor, and I would expect him to be
- 23:12Speaker 2: with the Panthers as well. If he keeps this up, Richard,
- 23:16Speaker 2: he's going to go down as one of the best
- 23:18Speaker 2: running backs in all time. At least that's my take.
- 23:21Speaker 2: But this team right now, the way they're positioned, They're
- 23:25Speaker 2: moving on up my power rankings in a big, big fashion.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Taking a quick break to tell you about this new
- 23:30Speaker 1: prediction market called Polymarket. It's the best new way to
- 23:35Speaker 1: trade in sports.
- 23:36Speaker 2: In the past, if you wanted action on the game,
- 23:39Speaker 2: you'd put some money in, and if your team was
- 23:41Speaker 2: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 23:44Speaker 2: the trade or take a huge fee.
- 23:46Speaker 1: But Polymarket is a prediction market. It's a stock exchange
- 23:50Speaker 1: for sports, buying in and selling out on your turn.
- 23:54Speaker 2: When your team goes down to 20%, you can buy
- 23:57Speaker 2: in and sell it off at 40% when they come
- 24:00Speaker 2: back to double your money.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I've tried them all, and Polymarket is simply the best
- 24:06Speaker 1: prediction market. Better than DraftKings, FanDuel, Kalshi, you name it.
- 24:11Speaker 2: They're so confident you'll never go back to the other guys.
- 24:14Speaker 2: They're giving you a free $ 50 on your first trade
- 24:18Speaker 2: when you deposit just $ 10.
- 24:20Speaker 1: So download the Polymarket app today and use the code Sherman.
- 24:23Speaker 1: That's S-H-E-R-M-A-N. When you sign up, that code gets you
- 24:29Speaker 1: $ 50 free after you trade just $ 10.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Let's talk about another team here, Richard, that I was
- 24:35Speaker 2: high on coming into the season and it left you
- 24:38Speaker 2: scratching your head until you started having blood in your scalp.
- 24:42Speaker 2: But I hope you're not scratching your head anymore. These
- 24:45Speaker 2: Cincinnati Bengals, they go on the road. They take care
- 24:49Speaker 2: of business. against the vaunted Houston Texans defense, uh, Joe burrow,
- 24:55Speaker 2: you know, finally healthy, you know, not the best statistical game,
- 24:58Speaker 2: but when you're going against the secondary and a defense
- 25:00Speaker 2: like the Texans for him to connect with Jamar chase,
- 25:03Speaker 2: his running mate, seven receptions, 75 yards, two touchdowns. It's
- 25:08Speaker 2: an impressive showing an impressive start to the season by
- 25:10Speaker 2: the bangles. But more impressively is this shell of a
- 25:13Speaker 2: defense that we saw over the last few years, all
- 25:16Speaker 2: of a sudden looks good. Um, Your thoughts on the
- 25:19Speaker 2: Cincinnati Bengals team as they start 2-0 and take care
- 25:22Speaker 2: of the Houston Ducksons.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Well, I got to say, Mitchell, you were on this
- 25:27Speaker 1: from the beginning. And Cincinnati Bengals defense, I got to apologize.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I was not familiar with your work. And this season,
- 25:35Speaker 1: they have started off on fire, Mitchell. And it started
- 25:39Speaker 1: up front. Jonathan Allen, Dexter Lawrence, Boye Maffei. The D-line
- 25:43Speaker 1: is setting the tone, game in and game out. And
- 25:46Speaker 1: I would say, eh, this Houston offense. But they just
- 25:49Speaker 1: put up 31 versus the Buffalo Bills, another Super Bowl
- 25:52Speaker 1: contender this season. And they put it up relatively easy.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Ran the ball very well. C.J. Stroud played very well.
- 25:59Speaker 1: In this game, C.J. Stroud threw for his yards. He
- 26:01Speaker 1: threw for. 353. They could not get the ground game
- 26:04Speaker 1: going at all with David Montgomery and Woody Marks. They
- 26:07Speaker 1: were stuffing them every chance they got. Huge fourth down
- 26:11Speaker 1: stop where They tried to hand it off, and guess what?
- 26:15Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence just walked through the offensive line and said, nope,
- 26:18Speaker 1: not in my house. Sexy Dexy has changed the culture
- 26:22Speaker 1: for the Cincinnati Bengals team and really dominated. And then
- 26:25Speaker 1: on the offensive side, of course, I thought Joe Burrows
- 26:28Speaker 1: was going to continue to put up incredible points and
- 26:32Speaker 1: do a great job, and he will. But this game,
- 26:34Speaker 1: he did not put up that many points. He put
- 26:36Speaker 1: up 20 points, and it was his defense that kept
- 26:39Speaker 1: them in the game drive after drive after drive, continue
- 26:44Speaker 1: to get stops. And I didn't even know. I didn't
- 26:47Speaker 1: even know that Will Anderson was a chiropractor. I didn't
- 26:50Speaker 1: even know. The Bengals had it so good today. They
- 26:55Speaker 1: had things going so good that when Will Anderson, when
- 26:59Speaker 1: they sacked Joe Burrow, and they sacked him quite a
- 27:00Speaker 1: few times today, I think they had five on the day,
- 27:03Speaker 1: they actually put his rib back in place. A little
- 27:07Speaker 1: chiropractic work, Mitchell. What? When you're looking for some chiropractic work, Mitchell,
- 27:12Speaker 1: look in Houston. I didn't know they did that, but
- 27:14Speaker 1: apparently they just helped the Bengals out and got Joe
- 27:17Speaker 1: Burrow right on their way to an L. The Bengals
- 27:20Speaker 1: look really good, Mitchell. If their defense can play like
- 27:23Speaker 1: this all season, Sheldon Stewart, like every year, and this
- 27:27Speaker 1: is why I didn't really believe it going in, because
- 27:30Speaker 1: every year they've invested draft capital into this defense. They
- 27:33Speaker 1: brought in guys who looked good other places, who played
- 27:37Speaker 1: well other places, who did things other places. and they
- 27:40Speaker 1: just didn't get it done here. And then you got
- 27:42Speaker 1: Trey Hendrickson, you know, a guy that homegrown talent, and
- 27:45Speaker 1: then he walks away. And you're like, ah, like, what's
- 27:48Speaker 1: going on in Cincinnati? But they have got it together
- 27:50Speaker 1: right now. The guys they have are tone setters. You
- 27:53Speaker 1: heard Jonathan Allen before the game. Like, they don't talk
- 27:56Speaker 1: a lot. They don't talk a lot, Mitchell. They do
- 27:58Speaker 1: it with their shoulder pads and helmets. And, Mitchell, a
- 28:01Speaker 1: lot of people understand that. I get it.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I saw this coming, but I couldn't believe it was
- 28:09Speaker 2: going to be like this. A dominant fashion win against Houston.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Houston now starts 0-2. I know you're high on the Texans.
- 28:17Speaker 2: What does this do for your expectations for the Texans
- 28:19Speaker 2: the rest of the season? Do you still think they
- 28:21Speaker 2: can win this division and make the playoffs? Because, Richard,
- 28:24Speaker 2: an 0-2 start. We talked about it last week. You
- 28:27Speaker 2: got about a 10% shot statistically to still make the
- 28:30Speaker 2: playoffs over the course of history. Are the Texans going
- 28:33Speaker 2: to be one of those 10% after this 0-2 start
- 28:35Speaker 2: to the season?
- 28:36Speaker 1: We will see. I think it's much more probable now
- 28:39Speaker 1: with the seventh seed. And if you look at it,
- 28:48Speaker 1: the teams they lost to are likely playoff teams. The
- 28:50Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills look fantastic. C.J. Stroud
- 28:56Speaker 1: didn't play bad in these games, so I think that's
- 28:58Speaker 1: the silver lining of this whole situation. C.J. Stroud was 355.
- 29:03Speaker 1: three 53, no touchdowns, no interceptions. Dalton Schultz had a
- 29:06Speaker 1: good game. They were, they were getting the ball around. They,
- 29:08Speaker 1: the defense just has to come to life and they
- 29:10Speaker 1: have to score in the red zone. They have to
- 29:12Speaker 1: stop ending these drives with field goals. Hmm. Yeah, I
- 29:21Speaker 1: think they could. I really, I have a hard time
- 29:23Speaker 1: thinking the Houston Texans are going to be out of it. Um,
- 29:27Speaker 1: obviously a lot of work is to be done, but
- 29:29Speaker 1: that AFC South, it's a dog fight right now. Um,
- 29:33Speaker 1: Everybody got at least one loss. The Jacksonville Jaguars just
- 29:37Speaker 1: lost to the Denver Broncos today. The Titans are 0-2.
- 29:42Speaker 1: The Colts are about to play tonight against the Kansas
- 29:45Speaker 1: City Chiefs. That's going to be a tough game. So yeah,
- 29:48Speaker 1: I think there's still a chance for them to make
- 29:49Speaker 1: the playoffs and still potentially win this division.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Well, they've got a tough division game next week against
- 29:55Speaker 2: the Colts, and then the Bengals take on the Steelers
- 29:57Speaker 2: for an opportunity to start 3-0. Let's take a look
- 30:01Speaker 2: at another intriguing team. I was able to watch them
- 30:04Speaker 2: firsthand last week. The New Orleans Saints are one play
- 30:08Speaker 2: away from being 2-0. If they would have been able
- 30:11Speaker 2: to convert that two-point conversion against the Lions, this would
- 30:15Speaker 2: have been a total different story for them. They take
- 30:17Speaker 2: care of business against the Baltimore Ravens, right? And you
- 30:20Speaker 2: talked about it already. Everyone has the Baltimore Ravens up
- 30:24Speaker 2: in their power rankings. Everyone but you. You kind of
- 30:27Speaker 2: saw this coming. How did you see this coming? Do
- 30:30Speaker 2: you like the Saints? Because, Richard, I'm high on them
- 30:33Speaker 2: right now. I think they're going to win the NFC South.
- 30:35Speaker 2: I like Tyler Shuck a lot. I think he brings
- 30:38Speaker 2: a great skill set to that offense, one they've lacked
- 30:42Speaker 2: for years. Chris Alave looks like the wide receiver they
- 30:45Speaker 2: expected him to be out of Ohio State. Eight receptions,
- 30:49Speaker 2: 86 yards, and a touchdown. You combine that with his
- 30:52Speaker 2: production last week against the Lions. This is one of
- 30:55Speaker 2: the top receivers statistically in football right now. Richard, how
- 30:59Speaker 2: impressed are you with the New Orleans Saints being able
- 31:02Speaker 2: to take care of business against the Baltimore Ravens today?
- 31:06Speaker 1: I'm really impressed. And what's most impressive is they're such
- 31:09Speaker 1: a fourth quarter team right now. They really have these
- 31:12Speaker 1: offensive explosions in the second half. And Tyler Shaw, maybe
- 31:15Speaker 1: he just finds his rhythm late. Maybe that's just how
- 31:17Speaker 1: he is and he warms up into it. but the
- 31:19Speaker 1: reason I wasn't as high on the, on the Baltimore
- 31:21Speaker 1: Ravens is because their defense, their defense just over the
- 31:25Speaker 1: last few years has not been great. Ever since Mike
- 31:27Speaker 1: McDonald has left, uh, the, the Baltimore Ravens, they just
- 31:30Speaker 1: have not been the same defensively. And so until I
- 31:33Speaker 1: see that change, I'm just not going to believe in
- 31:35Speaker 1: the Baltimore Ravens. Now they still have Lamar Jackson who
- 31:38Speaker 1: was going to continue to be Lamar Jackson. Uh, he
- 31:40Speaker 1: was 21 to 31 to 35, a touchdown, but he
- 31:43Speaker 1: did have that interception. Derek Henry started off really fast. Um,
- 31:48Speaker 1: was having a great game, but ended with 16 carries
- 31:50Speaker 1: for 68 yards and a touchdown. And so without Zay Flowers,
- 31:56Speaker 1: who are their go-to guys? Who's the guy that's going
- 31:59Speaker 1: to take the top off the defense? And this game,
- 32:02Speaker 1: it was Rashad Bateman who had seven receptions for 88
- 32:05Speaker 1: yards and a touchdown. But eventually, it's going to catch
- 32:09Speaker 1: up to you. Their defense got three sacks in this game.
- 32:13Speaker 1: But if you look at Tyler Shaw, just being efficient,
- 32:17Speaker 1: and I think He was the guy, because Shador Sanders
- 32:20Speaker 1: was in this draft, everybody was like, why would the
- 32:22Speaker 1: Saints pick him and not Shador Sanders? I think you're
- 32:24Speaker 1: starting to see it. I mean, I wasn't high on him.
- 32:26Speaker 1: He got a lot of reps last year. He got
- 32:28Speaker 1: a lot of reps in games that nobody was really
- 32:30Speaker 1: paying attention to. And all you heard was people like
- 32:34Speaker 1: Dan Orlowski and these quarterback whispers saying, hey, watch out.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I really like what I'm seeing on tape from Tyler Shaw.
- 32:41Speaker 1: But I'm not one of those quarterback whispers, Mitchell. I
- 32:43Speaker 1: was not watching Tyler Shaw. I was very unfamiliar with
- 32:46Speaker 1: his game. But You had to watch him against your
- 32:48Speaker 1: Detroit lions. We had to watch him last week and
- 32:51Speaker 1: he was striking. Chris Olave had like one 87. So
- 32:54Speaker 1: now you start paying attention. He starts to make noise.
- 32:57Speaker 1: If they would have got that win, it would have
- 32:58Speaker 1: been even more, but he got our attention in this game.
- 33:00Speaker 1: He continued where he left off and you got to
- 33:02Speaker 1: give Kellen more, Kellen more guy that people haven't talked
- 33:05Speaker 1: a ton about, you know, since he got to new
- 33:08Speaker 1: Orleans because they haven't been a great team, but he's
- 33:10Speaker 1: starting to show his promise again. Um, I know Chris
- 33:13Speaker 1: Olave is happy to see him. Juwan Johnson has had
- 33:16Speaker 1: a really good start to the season. You know, compared
- 33:19Speaker 1: to what they're used to, Daniel Carlson is making his kicks.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Pete Werner, 11 tackles, a sack in his game in
- 33:26Speaker 1: the TFL. It's some interesting stuff going on in New Orleans.
- 33:31Speaker 1: And again, in a division where things can go either way.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I thought I had Tampa Bay Bucks winning this division.
- 33:38Speaker 1: They're 0-2 right now. They just lost to the Cleveland
- 33:41Speaker 1: Browns and Deshaun Watson. So, Anything can happen. Can New
- 33:44Speaker 1: Orleans find their rhythm, find their footing? The Carolina Panthers
- 33:47Speaker 1: are starting to find their footing. Bryce Young looks the part.
- 33:51Speaker 1: He's making some big plays. He's pushing the ball down
- 33:53Speaker 1: the field. Teterola McMillan is doing a great job. But
- 33:56Speaker 1: Alvin Kamara was relatively quiet in this game, only had
- 34:00Speaker 1: 15 yards rushing and seven yards through the air. But
- 34:04Speaker 1: they're finding ways to win games, and that's what's important.
- 34:07Speaker 1: They scored 27 points in this game. Can they continue
- 34:09Speaker 1: to do that?
- 34:11Speaker 2: And it's going to be an interesting matchup.
- 34:12Speaker 1: They scored 24 points in this game. My apologies.
- 34:16Speaker 2: It's going to be an interesting matchup for them next
- 34:18Speaker 2: week as well. They're taking on the Vegas Raiders who
- 34:20Speaker 2: are off to a 2-0 start themselves. So here's a
- 34:24Speaker 2: matchup that not a whole lot of folks saw coming
- 34:27Speaker 2: at the beginning of the season. But here we are.
- 34:30Speaker 2: I think the Saints and the Raiders, it's going to
- 34:32Speaker 2: be a marquee matchup to watch next week. I'm shocked
- 34:35Speaker 2: that I'm saying that right now. Let's take a look
- 34:38Speaker 2: at a team that, It's 2-0, but I don't know
- 34:41Speaker 2: if their record is who they are right now. The
- 34:44Speaker 2: Philadelphia Eagles start 2-0 for the season, but did not
- 34:49Speaker 2: look very impressive in either win today. They go and
- 34:52Speaker 2: take on the lowly Tennessee Titans and need a last-minute
- 34:56Speaker 2: comeback in order to win in Tennessee. Richard, is there
- 35:01Speaker 2: cause for concern in Philly with how they've been playing,
- 35:05Speaker 2: albeit 2-0, but not looking the part?
- 35:10Speaker 1: Yes, there's calls for concern. And I had them on
- 35:14Speaker 1: upset alert early on Twitter. And then Philly fans, you know,
- 35:17Speaker 1: after they get the win with nine seconds to go,
- 35:19Speaker 1: start jumping in. But they weren't jumping in when I
- 35:22Speaker 1: said upset alert because they were concerned and they were worried,
- 35:25Speaker 1: just like they were in that Commanders game. That game
- 35:27Speaker 1: came down to a botched two-point conversion. And it's happening
- 35:32Speaker 1: like that. Now, maybe this still is a championship contender
- 35:35Speaker 1: in Philadelphia, but it's hard to see that when you
- 35:37Speaker 1: struggle defensively Versus a team that won three games last year,
- 35:41Speaker 1: whose quarterbacks struggled mightily last week. They struggled as a
- 35:44Speaker 1: team mightily last week. And so it's still to be seen.
- 35:48Speaker 1: But what you do have to say is Jalen Hurts
- 35:50Speaker 1: showed a tremendous amount of poise in this game. When
- 35:54Speaker 1: the offense needed it and they had to have it,
- 35:56Speaker 1: he came through in a big way. So did Devontae Smith.
- 35:59Speaker 1: He came through in a big way. 10 for 117
- 36:02Speaker 1: and a touchdown. Hurts did throw two interceptions. So that
- 36:06Speaker 1: is the concern on the other side of the coin.
- 36:08Speaker 1: is what he, there aren't many games that you're going
- 36:11Speaker 1: to find. We're not going to sit here and kill
- 36:13Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts and act like he throws two interceptions all
- 36:15Speaker 1: the time, but he did throw him in this game
- 36:17Speaker 1: against a defense that is relatively unheralded. So that's where
- 36:21Speaker 1: you start to say, Hmm, you know, Mitchell, because when
- 36:25Speaker 1: you came into this season, you said outside of Devante Smith,
- 36:29Speaker 1: where are they going to find offense? Now, Saquon Barkley
- 36:33Speaker 1: got a little banged up in this game. Um, He
- 36:36Speaker 1: only had four carries for nine yards, one reception for
- 36:39Speaker 1: 11 yards. So that matters. That factors into it. But
- 36:42Speaker 1: at the end of the day, you're still looking for
- 36:45Speaker 1: the number two option outside of Devontae Adams. Is it
- 36:48Speaker 1: going to be Doctavian Wicks? He had five catches for
- 36:51Speaker 1: 74 yards. Tank Bigby came in and did his thing
- 36:56Speaker 1: after Saquon left the game. But the things you expect
- 37:01Speaker 1: this team to lean on are their defense, their run game,
- 37:04Speaker 1: and then Jalen Hurts, Jalen Hurts' arm. And so they
- 37:07Speaker 1: got out of this game with a win. They're 2-0,
- 37:10Speaker 1: and they played the Bears, who just lost Caleb Williams
- 37:12Speaker 1: for an unknown amount of time. So they could easily
- 37:15Speaker 1: beat 3-0. And so it's not going to surprise anybody
- 37:18Speaker 1: when they are 3-0. But at the end of the season,
- 37:21Speaker 1: we're not going to– nobody's going to be talking about, oh, man,
- 37:24Speaker 1: they barely beat the Titans, or they did this, if
- 37:26Speaker 1: they're the number one seed in the playoffs. But it just–
- 37:32Speaker 1: it's not, these wins aren't instilling confidence in viewers and
- 37:37Speaker 1: the fans. And I know their fans will say, a
- 37:39Speaker 1: win is a win. Oh, you're just a hater. But
- 37:42Speaker 1: I would say this about anybody who was winning this way.
- 37:44Speaker 1: You know, if they're a contender and they're supposed to
- 37:46Speaker 1: be beating these teams in a big way, if the
- 37:49Speaker 1: Rams don't beat the Giants in a decisive, commanding way,
- 37:53Speaker 1: I'm going to say the same thing. Like, what's going
- 37:55Speaker 1: on there? The Green Bay Packers squeak out a win
- 37:58Speaker 1: against the The New York Jets, I'm going to say
- 38:03Speaker 1: we expected better from Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers.
- 38:08Speaker 1: That's what you expect from championship contending teams. Now, Jalen
- 38:11Speaker 1: Carter played a good game when they needed to have it.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Their defense got after them, made big plays, sacked the quarterback,
- 38:18Speaker 1: and they won that game. But is this a sustainable
- 38:21Speaker 1: way of playing football? We will see. Football is back.
- 38:27Speaker 1: And if you're getting ready for the season, pull up
- 38:29Speaker 1: to your local Lids. The exclusive 47 NFL collection is
- 38:34Speaker 1: available only in store at Lids. And this gear is
- 38:38Speaker 1: the gear you're going to need if you're going all
- 38:41Speaker 1: in all season.
- 38:42Speaker 2: No doubt about it. We're talking NFL graphic tees. The
- 38:45Speaker 2: iconic 47 hitch headwear silhouette. Richard, you like this, man?
- 38:51Speaker 2: I love this. The Detroit Lions 47 hitch headwear I
- 38:55Speaker 2: got on. and fan gear that looks good on game day,
- 38:59Speaker 2: Monday morning and every day in between.
- 39:02Speaker 1: And listen, I know a little something about being all in.
- 39:05Speaker 1: The Legion of Boom energy, it was not casual. We
- 39:09Speaker 1: didn't walk on the field hoping people noticed us. We
- 39:12Speaker 1: set the tone. We brought the energy. We made sure
- 39:15Speaker 1: everybody knew exactly who they were dealing with.
- 39:18Speaker 2: That's how you should rep your team, Richard. Confidence, no apologies.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Whether you're hosting the crew, watching the family, tailgating before
- 39:26Speaker 2: the game, or sitting across from somebody wearing the wrong costume.
- 39:30Speaker 2: get to your local lids and rep your squad the right.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Way football isn't just a Sunday thing it's a rivalry
- 39:38Speaker 1: it's tradition it's pride it's who you are all week
- 39:43Speaker 1: long so don't wait until kickoff to get ready pull
- 39:46Speaker 1: up to lids and go all in all season and
- 39:50Speaker 1: Only in store at Lids.
- 39:52Speaker 2: We shall see. Let's go to the NFC North, Richard.
- 39:55Speaker 2: We had a wild defensive battle. The Vikings come away
- 40:00Speaker 2: with a win in Chicago. And the story of this
- 40:04Speaker 2: game is Caleb Williams. He goes out with what looked
- 40:08Speaker 2: like a hamstring injury, rolling out to his left, being
- 40:12Speaker 2: chased in pursuit, and tweaks the hamstring. Richard, this is
- 40:17Speaker 2: a big, big deal for a team that had aspirations
- 40:22Speaker 2: of a Super Bowl this year. Let's call it what
- 40:24Speaker 2: it is. Ben Johnson's flexing his muscles after putting 50
- 40:28Speaker 2: plus points on the board up in week one and
- 40:30Speaker 2: they come back and put three on the board in
- 40:33Speaker 2: week two. Without Caleb Williams in the lineup, how does
- 40:37Speaker 2: this change everything for Chicago? I don't want to speculate
- 40:42Speaker 2: on timing, but if it's Four weeks, eight weeks, 12 weeks,
- 40:46Speaker 2: season long. How much is this going to impact the
- 40:50Speaker 2: Chicago Bears in their season and their expectations this season?
- 40:55Speaker 1: Man, I feel terrible for Caleb Williams. You're hoping it's
- 40:59Speaker 1: not a serious injury, but anytime it's non-contact and a
- 41:02Speaker 1: guy goes down like that, you're concerned and all the
- 41:06Speaker 1: prayers go up and all your energy goes up to that.
- 41:08Speaker 1: But I think he was struggling in this game anyway. Anyway,
- 41:14Speaker 1: they were struggling as a team, and so it's not
- 41:16Speaker 1: like Caleb Williams is having the greatest game, and then
- 41:19Speaker 1: he got banged up, and then it went to nowhere.
- 41:22Speaker 1: They had three points when he left the game. They
- 41:25Speaker 1: had three points when it was over, and they weren't
- 41:28Speaker 1: getting going because Brian Flores in this defense, and I
- 41:31Speaker 1: think he might have taken what Ben Johnson said very personally. Mitchell,
- 41:35Speaker 1: because they're on this schedule twice this year. When you
- 41:38Speaker 1: say you're going to break the record for scoring and
- 41:40Speaker 1: we're on your schedule twice, that means you think you're
- 41:43Speaker 1: about to put up crazy numbers on our defense. And
- 41:47Speaker 1: I'm sure that conversation was had in the locker room,
- 41:51Speaker 1: in the meeting room, because that's the way defenses are.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Ben Johnson gave many defenses bulletin board material. And he
- 42:01Speaker 1: probably didn't mean to. He's probably just hyping up his
- 42:04Speaker 1: own team and speaking to how great they feel and how, man,
- 42:07Speaker 1: this is energetic and, man, we feel good. We're dialed in.
- 42:11Speaker 1: These guys have worked so hard and you're speaking your
- 42:13Speaker 1: team up. Other side of the coin, you're pissing people off.
- 42:18Speaker 1: And when pissed off people come into town and you're
- 42:22Speaker 1: in their sights, it's going to be tough. And I
- 42:24Speaker 1: know the Philadelphia Eagles, now they come into town, Mitchell. Mitchell?
- 42:29Speaker 1: And now you got Tyson Bajan out there. And Jalen
- 42:32Speaker 1: Carter's still there. Noah Smith. The guys. What are they
- 42:37Speaker 1: going to want to do? They're going to want to eat, Mitchell.
- 42:40Speaker 1: They're going to want to eat. And they're not going
- 42:42Speaker 1: to feel sorry that your starting quarterback went out. You
- 42:45Speaker 1: scored 59 to start the season. You're going to break
- 42:48Speaker 1: all these records. That's the NFL. NFL.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Ben Johnson, he's got a little cockiness to him. I
- 42:57Speaker 2: like his approach, but when you say stuff like this,
- 42:59Speaker 2: like you said, it gives every other defense all the
- 43:02Speaker 2: material they need to get ready for that Sunday. The
- 43:05Speaker 2: Bears as a team, though, Richard, does this remove them
- 43:08Speaker 2: out of playoff hopefuls at this point for you without
- 43:12Speaker 2: Caleb Williams, without him starting for the foreseeable future here?
- 43:18Speaker 1: I'm not going to just outright move them out of
- 43:20Speaker 1: there because of their run game with DeAndre Swift and
- 43:23Speaker 1: Kyle Menungai. Obviously, Swift had a bad fumble in this game,
- 43:27Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken. But they have a great run game.
- 43:32Speaker 1: And if Tyson Bajent can just be solid, be solid.
- 43:35Speaker 1: And I'm sure Ben Johnson, when you lose your starting quarterback,
- 43:38Speaker 1: you didn't have the plan for Tyson Bajent to be
- 43:41Speaker 1: your quarterback. You had a plan that played to Caleb Williams' strength.
- 43:45Speaker 1: So I'm sure with a weak week's worth of time
- 43:48Speaker 1: to game plan and create a plan specifically structured for
- 43:55Speaker 1: Tyson Bajent, maybe he has some success. But it's going
- 43:59Speaker 1: to be tough. It's going to definitely be an uphill battle.
- 44:02Speaker 2: You know what, Richard? They obviously have faith in Tyson Bajent.
- 44:05Speaker 2: They paid him $ 10 million two years ago, a two-year
- 44:08Speaker 2: $ 10 million deal for a guy that comes from a
- 44:10Speaker 2: small school. It's worth up to $ 16 million worth of incentives.
- 44:14Speaker 2: So Here's his opportunity. They obviously have faith in him
- 44:18Speaker 2: to pay him and give him that guaranteed money. We'll
- 44:21Speaker 2: see if he's able to rise to the occasion. I,
- 44:23Speaker 2: like you, I don't think all hope is lost in Chicago.
- 44:27Speaker 2: Hopefully for them, Caleb Williams is not gone for more
- 44:30Speaker 2: than a month or two. But Tyson Bajent just needs
- 44:33Speaker 2: to keep them afloat. They've still got a number of
- 44:35Speaker 2: weapons on this team to keep them competitive. Let's talk
- 44:38Speaker 2: about the Denver Broncos.
- 44:40Speaker 1: This was a.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Team that absolutely needed to avoid going 0-2 after a
- 44:44Speaker 2: rough showing last week against the Kansas City Chiefs. They
- 44:48Speaker 2: welcomed the Jacksonville Jaguars into town, and early on it
- 44:52Speaker 2: looked like the Jags were going to take care of business.
- 44:55Speaker 2: But then Denver caught some life, and they came back
- 44:57Speaker 2: and pulled out an impressive win over this Jacksonville Jaguars
- 45:01Speaker 2: team that has been pretty hot lately. Richard, how impressive
- 45:05Speaker 2: of a win was this for the Denver Broncos?
- 45:08Speaker 1: This is an incredibly impressive victory for the Denver Broncos
- 45:12Speaker 1: for the simple fact that Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars,
- 45:16Speaker 1: even extending on to last season, have played really great
- 45:19Speaker 1: football down the stretch. Trevor Lawrence struggled a bit in
- 45:21Speaker 1: this game. He was 17 of 29 for 189 at
- 45:24Speaker 1: the interception, but he had some spectacular plays. Then he
- 45:27Speaker 1: struggled in some ways. Um, Parker Washington continues to show
- 45:32Speaker 1: that he is the guy out there. They feed Jacoby Myers,
- 45:35Speaker 1: but he only had one target for 28 yards. Parker
- 45:40Speaker 1: Washington had 12 targets, 7 receptions, 98 yards. So they
- 45:44Speaker 1: clearly believe he's the guy. I'm just trying to figure out. Sorry,
- 45:51Speaker 1: I'm going to start that over. I'm incredibly impressed with
- 46:00Speaker 1: this win for the Denver Broncos for the simple fact
- 46:03Speaker 1: that the Jacksonville Jaguars have played really good football. They
- 46:06Speaker 1: looked great last week. Trevor Lawrence has continued an ascension
- 46:14Speaker 1: in this league. But today, the Denver Broncos reminded everybody
- 46:19Speaker 1: that they were, last year, one of the best defenses
- 46:21Speaker 1: in the National Football League. Yes, they have the best
- 46:24Speaker 1: corner in the National Football League in Patrick Sertan. Now,
- 46:26Speaker 1: Christian Gonzalez... Would like to put his name in a hat,
- 46:29Speaker 1: no question about it. He has played magnificent football over
- 46:32Speaker 1: the past couple games. But this Denver Broncos defense is
- 46:37Speaker 1: the reason that they were in this game. They were
- 46:40Speaker 1: creating turnovers. They had multiple sacks in this game.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Fuck!
- 46:47Speaker 1: I got to start that over. Okay. Yes, I think
- 46:58Speaker 1: this is an incredibly impressive win by the Denver Broncos
- 47:01Speaker 1: because the Jacksonville Jaguars were rolling. Trevor Lawrence was rolling.
- 47:05Speaker 1: He was playing really good football, high-level football. Everybody was like, man,
- 47:08Speaker 1: he's finally figured it out. It's finally clicking for him.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Liam Cohen is getting the best out of him, but
- 47:14Speaker 1: today he struggled versus a defense that last season was
- 47:18Speaker 1: one of the best in the league. They didn't look
- 47:19Speaker 1: that way against Kansas City the other night, but this
- 47:24Speaker 1: is a week-to-week league. You never know. And they seem
- 47:27Speaker 1: to have found their rhythm. Patrick Sertan had a really
- 47:30Speaker 1: good game in coverage throughout. Obviously, Parker Washington is going
- 47:34Speaker 1: to be a tough, tough cover for anybody. He had
- 47:37Speaker 1: 12 targets, seven catches for 98 yards. Brian Thomas Jr.
- 47:41Speaker 1: had eight targets, but only three catches for 40 yards.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers only had one target, and he had one
- 47:46Speaker 1: catch for 28 yards. So you wonder, what's up with that?
- 47:51Speaker 1: They were running the ball, but it just It just
- 47:53Speaker 1: seemed like their offense never really got going, and that's
- 47:56Speaker 1: both sides of the ball. The Denver Broncos out-yarded the
- 48:00Speaker 1: Jacksonville Jaguars throughout this game, but the Jacksonville Jaguars were leading.
- 48:04Speaker 1: It was the fourth quarter and 14 unanswered by the
- 48:09Speaker 1: Denver Broncos that really turned this game around, and I
- 48:12Speaker 1: think that's where people are starting to believe, hey, maybe
- 48:16Speaker 1: Davis Webb can do it. There was a lot of
- 48:19Speaker 1: question marks for Davis Webb after last week's showing in
- 48:22Speaker 1: Kansas City, Like, is he the guy? And then early
- 48:24Speaker 1: on in this game, again, I'm sure people were already
- 48:27Speaker 1: writing the articles that Davis Webb may not be the guy.
- 48:30Speaker 1: When is Sean Payton going to take over? But in
- 48:34Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, it seemed like he found his rhythm.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Bo Nix found his rhythm. He ended the game with
- 48:38Speaker 1: two 88, a touchdown in that one interception, uh, not
- 48:42Speaker 1: sacked in the game, which was huge because this offensive
- 48:47Speaker 1: line was supposed to be one of the best in
- 48:48Speaker 1: the league coming into the season. And they were, uh, Again,
- 48:52Speaker 1: they weren't able to get a ton on the ground.
- 48:54Speaker 1: You know, this was a grinded-out game. This was a
- 48:56Speaker 1: defensive game. But I think sometimes you need that. Sometimes
- 49:00Speaker 1: you need to lean on your defense and remind yourselves
- 49:03Speaker 1: who you are. I'm sure Vance Joseph was very happy
- 49:06Speaker 1: with his team's performance, very happy with what they were
- 49:09Speaker 1: able to do. Our guy, Riley Moss, got an interception
- 49:12Speaker 1: in the game where they disguised cover two.
- 49:14Speaker 2: He rerouted.
- 49:15Speaker 1: He was playing it from off. As a quarterback, you
- 49:17Speaker 1: see off coverage. You're thinking, hey, maybe it's a man.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Maybe it's cover three. Maybe it's quarters and palms. But
- 49:21Speaker 1: you're rarely ever thinking it's cover two. He sat on
- 49:24Speaker 1: the route, looked like he got beat, rolled with the coverage,
- 49:27Speaker 1: got an interception. Plays like that are what makes defenses great.
- 49:31Speaker 1: And I think I have a lot of respect for
- 49:33Speaker 1: Riley Moss because he plays opposite of Patrick Sertan. And
- 49:38Speaker 1: that's the toughest job in the National Football League because
- 49:40Speaker 1: they aren't going to target Patrick Sertan a ton. And
- 49:43Speaker 1: you know who they are going to target a ton?
- 49:45Speaker 1: Riley Moss or whoever is over there. And for him
- 49:48Speaker 1: to be able to create a turnover in this game
- 49:49Speaker 1: and really, really turn the momentum on this game and
- 49:53Speaker 1: give the Denver Broncos life and kind of lead to
- 49:56Speaker 1: them getting these scoring drives going, you know, always a
- 50:01Speaker 1: respect for end of the program, Riley Moss.
- 50:04Speaker 2: You love you some Riley Moss, Richard. Bo Nix had
- 50:07Speaker 2: a great game, too. The Denver Broncos had an excellent
- 50:10Speaker 2: second half. Jalen Waddell got involved. Ten targets, eight receptions,
- 50:15Speaker 2: 138 yards. You like to see that as a Bronco fan.
- 50:18Speaker 2: This was the big high-ticket acquisition over the offseason, bringing
- 50:22Speaker 2: Jalen Waddell in. But another under-the-radar acquisition, who I think
- 50:26Speaker 2: we're going to see a lot more of in Denver
- 50:28Speaker 2: going forward, is Jonah Coleman. Jonah Coleman's a rookie running
- 50:31Speaker 2: back out of UW. Up by you, Richard, the Washington Huskies.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Denver spoke very highly of him in training camp. He's
- 50:38Speaker 2: a versatile, smaller, compactor, shorter but stout running back that
- 50:44Speaker 2: runs between the tackles but can also catch the ball
- 50:46Speaker 2: out of the backfield every down back. I like him
- 50:49Speaker 2: for Denver, Richard. I wouldn't be shocked if he takes
- 50:51Speaker 2: over the starting role at some point here in the
- 50:53Speaker 2: next month or so. J.K. Dobbins gets hurt in the
- 50:57Speaker 2: fourth quarter. We'll see, Richard. I like to call these
- 51:02Speaker 2: guys out every once in a while. I got an
- 51:04Speaker 2: eye on somebody. Keep an eye on Jonah Coleman going
- 51:07Speaker 2: forward for me, all right?
- 51:09Speaker 1: I'm going to do it, Mitchell. You can be a
- 51:11Speaker 1: scout the way you got the eye, Mitchell. One thing
- 51:15Speaker 1: I love about the summer, Mitchell, is how easy everything feels.
- 51:18Speaker 1: The days are a little more relaxed, and I find
- 51:20Speaker 1: myself reaching for the same comfortable go-anywhere pieces again and again.
- 51:26Speaker 1: That's why I keep coming back to Quint's.
- 51:28Speaker 2: I tell you what, Richard, I've spoke about it a
- 51:30Speaker 2: number of times. I got these cashmere joggers, right? Black, beautiful.
- 51:35Speaker 2: They're perfect, man. Summer nights, chilling out, you know, on
- 51:39Speaker 2: the patio. I throw them on. I've enjoyed them so much.
- 51:42Speaker 2: And it's not just clothing. Quince has become a trusted
- 51:45Speaker 2: favorite for everything from home to travel to everyday essentials.

- 52:33Speaker 2: about them before they even arrived.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Because they take me back to my childhood era, man. R.I.P.
- 52:38Speaker 1: the Bean Mitchell. Any chance I get to just remember
- 52:43Speaker 1: the bean and have something that he wore, it means

- 53:52Speaker 2: Let's rattle through some of these remaining games. The Richard
- 53:55Speaker 2: Sherman Podcast is entering the fourth quarter. Richard, I'm looking
- 53:58Speaker 2: for your quick reactions for these next games. The Cowboys
- 54:03Speaker 2: put up 37 points, take down the Washington Commanders. Big
- 54:07Speaker 2: story in this game. It looks like Jaden Daniels re-injures
- 54:10Speaker 2: the elbow that he hurt last year. You hate to
- 54:13Speaker 2: see it. We saw what happened to him last year
- 54:16Speaker 2: when he was out. The Commanders, there was a lot
- 54:19Speaker 2: of hope for them coming into the season 0-2. On
- 54:22Speaker 2: the other side, the Cowboys get a much-needed win, 1-1.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Big showing from Dak Prescott and C.D.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Lamb.
- 54:28Speaker 2: How impressed were you with this win by the Dallas Cowboys?
- 54:32Speaker 1: I was really impressed with this game. Bouncing back from
- 54:34Speaker 1: a loss to the New York Giants, they played the
- 54:38Speaker 1: way you expected them to play. Dak Prescott was really efficient, 26-31,
- 54:42Speaker 1: four touchdowns. He got two to C.D. Lamb. C.D. Lamb
- 54:45Speaker 1: went over 150 yards in the game. George Pickens got
- 54:48Speaker 1: six catches on eight targets for 40 yards. You know,
- 54:51Speaker 1: they just want to get the ball in his hands
- 54:52Speaker 1: and continue to feed him. They didn't get a ton
- 54:55Speaker 1: done on the ground. The Washington Commanders did a great job.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Javon Kinlaw and those guys inside. aren't going to just
- 55:02Speaker 1: let you run the ball on them. But I think
- 55:04Speaker 1: they're starting to get back to who they are. They're
- 55:07Speaker 1: an air raid system, and Dak Prescott can really push
- 55:11Speaker 1: the ball down the field. Defensively, they got the stops
- 55:14Speaker 1: they needed to get. Obviously, the concern here is Jaden
- 55:17Speaker 1: Daniels for the commanders. You hate to see that. You
- 55:20Speaker 1: hate to see these young quarterbacks, Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels,
- 55:23Speaker 1: get hurt, especially early in the season when a lot
- 55:25Speaker 1: of the hopes of their teams are still up in
- 55:27Speaker 1: the air. But you hope that it's not too serious.
- 55:30Speaker 1: X-rays showed no fracture, which is a positive thing. But, again,
- 55:35Speaker 1: when that happens, those ligaments get inflamed, and sometimes that
- 55:38Speaker 1: takes a second to heal up. But thank goodness they
- 55:42Speaker 1: have Marcus Mariota. He'll be solid. They play the Seahawks
- 55:45Speaker 1: next game, so this schedule isn't doing them any favors.
- 55:48Speaker 1: The Cowboys have the Ravens, who are coming off a
- 55:51Speaker 1: tough loss. I'm interested to watch that game because who's
- 55:54Speaker 1: going to finally take a step up? Who's going to
- 55:56Speaker 1: make a play for either of these teams? Which one
- 55:58Speaker 1: of these defenses– is going to show their mettle. And
- 56:02Speaker 1: I think that's something to see. Two really good quarterbacks
- 56:05Speaker 1: in Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott competing against each other.
- 56:07Speaker 1: That's always fun to see.
- 56:10Speaker 2: And down in Florida, in Tampa Bay, the Bucs start
- 56:13Speaker 2: the season 0-2. They lose to the hands of the
- 56:16Speaker 2: Cleveland Browns. It was a rainy day in Tampa. This
- 56:18Speaker 2: game got delayed for a couple hours. Big storyline here, though,
- 56:22Speaker 2: is Deshaun Watson. It finally looked like the Deshaun Watson
- 56:26Speaker 2: game of old. Is there hope in Cleveland if Deshaun
- 56:29Speaker 2: Watson can play this level of football?
- 56:32Speaker 1: Sure, sure. I think if Deshaun Watson can play this
- 56:36Speaker 1: level of football and his defense can play this level
- 56:39Speaker 1: of football, they got three sacks in this game. They
- 56:42Speaker 1: got intercepted Baker Mayfield. That's what it's going to come
- 56:45Speaker 1: down to. Now, Deshaun Watson has to be a good player.
- 56:48Speaker 1: He has to protect the ball. I thought he was
- 56:49Speaker 1: pretty efficient, pretty solid in this game. I thought his
- 56:53Speaker 1: receivers and tight ends didn't do him any favors. I
- 56:55Speaker 1: thought there was a number of catchable footballs that didn't
- 56:58Speaker 1: end up in catches. But, yeah, I think this team
- 57:02Speaker 1: showed some life today. They showed some life, showed some
- 57:05Speaker 1: things that I think they showed what they're capable of
- 57:11Speaker 1: if they just execute. And I'm sure Todd Munkin appreciated that.
- 57:16Speaker 2: And look, they hit a home run in the draft
- 57:18Speaker 2: to this Denzel Boston kid, another guy from UW up
- 57:20Speaker 2: by you, the Washington Huskies second round pick a big
- 57:24Speaker 2: wide receiver. He had five for 95 and a touchdown. Um,
- 57:27Speaker 2: Cleveland has lacked playmakers in recent years. If the Sean
- 57:31Speaker 2: Watson can play this level of football, I think other
- 57:34Speaker 2: guys around him are going to rise up. Um, they
- 57:36Speaker 2: invested a lot into the wide receiver room and Casey
- 57:39Speaker 2: conception and Denzel Boston. Um, the future might be bright
- 57:44Speaker 2: in Cleveland. I don't think they're going to compete for
- 57:46Speaker 2: the division just yet, but it's good to see them
- 57:49Speaker 2: be competitive and get a win on the road. Uh,
- 57:52Speaker 2: as much as I hate to revisit the past, Richard,
- 57:54Speaker 2: we got to talk about Thursday night football. I was there.
- 57:57Speaker 2: You were obviously there. Obviously there, the bills were there.
- 58:01Speaker 2: And unfortunately the Detroit lions were there as well. They
- 58:04Speaker 2: took a massive L to the hands of Josh Allen
- 58:07Speaker 2: and the unstoppable offense of the Buffalo bills. Um, Richard, uh,
- 58:12Speaker 2: To me, looking at Josh Allen firsthand, he is my
- 58:17Speaker 2: biggest shoo-in MVP candidate right now. The way he dominates
- 58:21Speaker 2: the game on every facet. If you've got the wide
- 58:24Speaker 2: receivers covered, he's going to roll out and scramble on you.
- 58:28Speaker 2: He's a physical specimen. A short yardage is impossible to
- 58:32Speaker 2: stop him. Richard, after watching this Bills team firsthand and
- 58:36Speaker 2: seeing them put up the amount of points they did
- 58:38Speaker 2: against Houston in Week 1, This team is red hot,
- 58:41Speaker 2: and I got them moving up my power ranks big time.
- 58:44Speaker 2: This is the one team I could see really give
- 58:46Speaker 2: the Seattle Seahawks a hard time if they stay healthy.
- 58:50Speaker 2: How much do you like this Buffalo Bills team right now?
- 58:54Speaker 1: I really like this Buffalo Bills team, especially offensively. I
- 58:57Speaker 1: like Dalton Kincaid. I think that's a name you're going
- 59:00Speaker 1: to hear a lot more in this league, a guy
- 59:02Speaker 1: you're going to hear mentioned with the Trey McBrides and
- 59:08Speaker 1: George Kittles of the world. as one of the elite
- 59:11Speaker 1: tight ends in the National Football League. He's having that
- 59:13Speaker 1: kind of start to the season. And if Josh Allen
- 59:15Speaker 1: continues to blossom, James Cook continues to be an issue.
- 59:18Speaker 1: DJ Moore obviously suffered the shoulder injury in this game,
- 59:21Speaker 1: but I think he'll be okay and continues to play.
- 59:25Speaker 1: But it's the other side of the ball. that I'm
- 59:28Speaker 1: most worried about for the Buffalo bills. And I think
- 59:30Speaker 1: that that's right now, their Achilles heels, that defensive side.
- 59:32Speaker 1: And I know everybody's like, Oh man, it was, it
- 59:34Speaker 1: was garbage time. And that's when they were scoring the touchdowns.
- 59:37Speaker 1: But it's like, I don't know about that. Jared golf
- 59:39Speaker 1: through for three 27 and four touchdowns. I'm in rock St.
- 59:43Speaker 1: Brown had, uh, one 42 and two touchdowns in the game.
- 59:46Speaker 1: So again, if it wasn't for Josh Allen and his
- 59:50Speaker 1: incredible play and his monumental playmaking in this game, what
- 59:55Speaker 1: does this game end up becoming? So, um, You got
- 59:58Speaker 1: to give them credit, though. They look really good against
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: two really good opponents early on. Houston Texans, one of
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: the best defenses in the league last year. They balled
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: out against them. Your Detroit Lions team, a lot of
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: people see as contenders in the National Football League. They
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: balled out. They played the Chargers next week, who have
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: not looked good at all in the first two weeks
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: of the season. So now that's looking like a very
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: winnable game. The Buffalo Bills starting 3-0 in a very
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: interesting division. I can't call it a tough division because
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: their competition is, is the New England Patriots. And then
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the other two teams, um, the Jets and the Miami
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: Dolphins are kind of up and down, but the Jets
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: have been solid. They gave the Green Bay Packers a
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: game today. Uh, and at times looked like they had
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: a chance to win that game.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Yeah. And Richard, as for the Lions, like I left
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Thursday night demoralized. I'm not going to lie to you.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Just seeing how their defense has been, uh, just over
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: the last, what, six quarters since halftime of the, uh,
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: The Saints game, they've given up 71 points. You know,
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: it's just too much. And at some point, the Lions
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: have been playing this game where they just get in
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: shootouts and outscore their opponents in the high 30s, low 40s.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: At some point, we got to see some stability defensively
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: if this team's going to really make some noise. Because
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: when the Lions go three and out, three and out,
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: and two sustained long drives by Josh Allen start the
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: game out 14 to nothing, that game was over. And
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: the Lions just can't afford to do that going forward.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: Their schedule is a little bit easier over these next
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: three games. I look for the defense to find their
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: identity and stand up. Otherwise, there's going to be a
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: lot of questions in Detroit about who's making the decisions
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: on the defensive side of the ball.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: And there's going to be some changes. And Dan Campbell
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: has shown he's not afraid to make changes in season.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: I don't think he wants to fire anybody, but maybe
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: you change who's calling the plays. But there just doesn't
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: seem to be structure and sound coaching right now with
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: their defense. You can't really recognize what they're playing in
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: the back end. And if you're looking at the All-22,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: even if you're looking with an experienced eye, you're having
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: a hard time kind of figuring out, is this quarters?
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Is this fire zone? Is this kind of palms, but
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: they're not blitzing enough guys? Is this zero coverage, but
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: they're switching routes? When that's the case, you know that
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: this isn't sound football. And that's what you got to
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: have fundamentally. You have to have rules. You have to
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: have things you live by. You have to have a
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: foundation that you can grow from. And right now, their
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: foundation is built on sand.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: Well, they got one with the Jets next week. The
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: Jets took on the Packers this week and almost, almost
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: snuck out with the win. In fact, they probably should
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: have won this game up 17-7 in the fourth quarter.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: The Packers come back, win an OT 20-17. How concerned
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: should the Green Bay fan base be with this showing
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: from the Packers? They've looked less than impressive to start
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: the season, losing a game to the Vikings that they
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: held in hand in the fourth quarter and ultimately lost
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: by double digits, and then going on the road here
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: to the Jets and nearly losing to a team that
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: has struggled immensely over the last few years. How concerned
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: are you for the Green Bay Packers?
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I'm really concerned, especially on the offensive side of the ball,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: because you just expect Jordan Love to be better. He
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: was 16 of 16. 16 for 29 for 145 and
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: two touchdowns, and just looked uncomfortable. The Jets' defense isn't
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: super heralded. They only scored 20 points in a game.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: On the other side of the ball, you are impressed
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: with Lucas Van Ness. He was a terror for them.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: He had nine tackles, a sack and a half, three TFLs,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: four quarterback hits. That's what you can hang your hat
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: on is that your D-line is starting to come to life. Eventually,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: you'll get Micah Parsons back. That'll inject a ton of
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: life and help erase some of these issues. But on
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: the other side of the ball, you're still looking for answers.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Christian Watson looks good. He's scoring some touchdowns. He's moving well.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: But where are the points? Where's the yardage? And I
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: can't really understand that. I didn't think that the Jets
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: defense would hold the Packers this low. They won the game.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: They won it late in the game and they found
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: a way to get it done. But I just don't,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: you know, it's not something that you look at, a
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: team that you look at and you're like, man, I
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: can hang my head on this or I can hang
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: my head on that. Obviously, being without Josh Jacobs is
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: a huge factor. That's a guy who really opens the
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: run game up and really opens the run game, opens
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: the pass game up for them. And until they get
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: them back, they won't be complete. But we got them
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: next week and they got the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Falcons have not looked good. So maybe, you know, maybe
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: that'll be a good wake up and a good medicine
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: for this offense and get them going.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Let's talk about the Falcons real quick here. They have
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: a horrendous showing today against the Carolina Panthers. who gave
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: up 57 points last week. So obviously they had something
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: to go out and prove defensively. And they did just that,
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: holding the Falcons at three points. Devin Lloyd with a
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: massive game today. Had one pick six, almost had another one.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: Stiff-armed the receiver. I'm blanking on his name right now. Dotson,
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: Jahan Dotson to the ground. And what a very impressive
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: run by Devin Lloyd. But Richard Bryce, young. 287 yards,
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: three touchdowns. These Carolina Panthers have shown they've got an
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: offense that can score, putting up 30-plus points the last
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: two games. Do you like this Panthers team in the
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: NFC South?
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: I like them more than I thought I would, and
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: I'm happy for David Canales. Obviously, everybody, the whole story was, man,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: their defense gave up 59. They got blown out versus
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: the Chicago Bears, but their offense scored 37 and now
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: scored 34. They're rolling. They're doing a great job, and
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: if their defense can play like they did today, they
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: had five takeaways, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and Devin
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Lloyd picking up where he left off last season for
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had five interceptions last season. He
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: was the second team, all pro. He's a pro bowler.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: And now he's come to Carolina and he's doing the
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: same thing. I mean, he has, he's having a, those
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: kinds of stats in one game, Mitchell, that's a defensive
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: player of the year type game. If he can continue
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: that now, obviously, you know, he's going to be player
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: of the week. He's going to do his thing. Can
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: he continue to, to, To have those kind of games,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: because if he does, look out. But that's what they're
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: going to need. That's what they're going to need. If
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: they're going to be an elite team in this league,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: if they're going to be a championship team of some kind. Now,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: I know saying championship in the Carolina Panthers doesn't even
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: sound right in this capacity. But with the way Bryce
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Young is playing, he's starting to blossom into who people
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: thought he was. thought he could be when he first
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: got drafted. And I'm sure Dave Tepper, what he thought
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: he could be because he wanted them to draft him
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: so bad. So I'm sure he's excited for the way
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: he's playing. Three touchdowns on a day. He had four
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: total touchdowns last week. So I think he has six
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: passing touchdowns on a season. That's an outstanding start for him.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: No question. Let's talk about the Patriots. Desperate need of
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: a win after losing in week one.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: And you notice, Mitchell, we didn't talk about Atlanta because
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: it's tough.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: It's tough.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Cooper Rush. Yeah.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: What's there to say, Richard? I mean, this team looks
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: like they don't even know the season started. You know
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: what I mean? I mean, you've got guys like Drake
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: London and Bajon Robinson having conversations in game. You can
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: tell by body language, these guys are frustrated. This is
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: only week two. Cooper Rush is obviously out there, Richard.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: I don't know if Tua is going to be the
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: savior for him or Michael Penix Jr. is, but this
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: is rough for the Atlanta Falcons.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and I don't know if there's hope on the
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: horizon because is Tua Tunga-Vailoa going to come in and
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: just make them world beaters? I don't know. Is Penix
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: going to make them world beaters? We saw him have
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: good moments and bad moments last season. I don't know, Atlanta.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Might be time for a fire sale.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: It certainly might be. Let's talk about the Patriots again.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: They started the season 0-1. You lost to your Seattle
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: Seahawks in a very emotional night to kick off the season.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: New England gets back to basics, takes care of the
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: Pittsburgh Steelers, holding them to three points. This game was
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: dominated defensively. The New England Patriots took care of Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: Maybe New England is that team still. Without A.J. Brown,
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: they got it done. Richard, do you like New England
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: and this Patriots team as competitors in the AFC? No.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: No, I don't. I think they just ran into a
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Steelers team that's not very good. Aaron Rodgers is getting old,
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: and he looked it in this game. They beat him
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: up really bad. Got some really physical sacks early in
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: the game. Forced to fumble. Held Aaron Rodgers to 187 yards.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: I mean, they roughed him up. He looked his age.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: And you can't say that a lot of times, but
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: he did. And give the New England Patriots defense a
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: ton of credit. But then you look at... Drake May,
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: and again, you still had some question marks about Drake
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: May's performance. Now, Ramondre Stevenson had a good game, and
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: then Travion Henderson. Okay. Okay. And Travion Hendrickson had some
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: big runs, and that's the reason they won the game,
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: because their run game got going and was very efficient
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: and explosive. And I think that's the case. But I'm
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: still concerned about Drake May.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: And then finally, the Raiders. This team is probably the
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: surprise of the NFL right now. Starting 2-0, taking care
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: of the L.A. Chargers. Very disappointing start of the season
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: for the L.A. Chargers. A lot of hope heading into
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: the season with Mike McDaniel. assuming offensive coordinator duties. And
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: they just get walked by the Raiders, 26-14. Cody White,
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: former Michigan State Spartan, the undrafted wide receiver, has two
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: touchdowns today. Richard, the Vegas, Kirk Cousins, you like that?
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: I do like that. You know who doesn't like that?
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: The L.A. Chargers and their fans. And they're not going
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: to like what's coming up next because they have the
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills. The Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos, the Chiefs,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: the Rams, the Texans, the Ravens. Mitchell, I don't see
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: a lot of dubs coming out of there. I see
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: a lot of L's, more L's than Cool J. But
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: I don't get what's wrong with the L.A. Chargers. I
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: don't get it. Their offensive line should be better. They
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: were banged up last season. I don't get what's wrong
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: with the L.A. Chargers. I thought bringing in Mike McDaniel
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: would really, really fix some of the problems that they
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: have fix their run game, like create some really cool
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: concepts for Justin Herbert. But it's just not coming together.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: It's just not happening. And you start to wonder, like,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: is it Justin Herbert? Like, you know, sometimes you can
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: be the prettiest girl at the prom, Mitchell. Sometimes you
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: can have all the features, all the physical features, a
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: great personality, and it just still something's off about you.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: that you just can't put your finger on, but nobody
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: putting a ring on it. And right now, the league
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: ain't putting a ring on Justin Herbert, and they're not
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: even figuring out a way to get doves for him.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: And I know everybody knows he can be an elite quarterback,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: and you want him to be an elite quarterback, and
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: everything screams elite quarterback. Dan Orlowski just said it the
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: other day. He's like, well, he just looks the part.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: It just looks right. In my mind, it's what a
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: quarterback should look like. And I know Brock Purdy isn't
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: what a quarterback should look like in his mind, but
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: Brock Purdy's a better quarterback than Justin Herbert. That's just
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: what has happened in the National Football League. Less of
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: a subjective opinion and more of a fact of the
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: matter and a fact that could be supported. And I
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: know everybody goes out of their way to create reasons
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: for why Justin Herbert hasn't been productive, why Justin Herbert
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: hasn't had the success that we all think Justin Herbert
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: should have. But at some point, you got to say, Mitchell,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: if this was anybody else, you wouldn't be making the
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: same excuses. If this was anybody else, if this was
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: the guys that you don't see as elite guys, if
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: this was Sam Darnold, if this was Brock Purdy, Mitchell,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: if this was those guys, you would have wrote them
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: off a long time ago. But they will not write
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: off Justin Herbert. And I'm starting to think, like, there
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: has to be something. It's not always everybody else. You're
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: only two right now lost to the Cardinals and the Raiders,
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: two teams that picked in the top five last year.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: The Raiders picked number one overall. And now you're about
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: to play the Beals. I think you're going to lose
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: that game. I think you lose the Seahawks game. I
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: think you lose the Broncos game. I think you lose
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: the Chiefs game. I think you lose to the Rams.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: You might beat the Texans if they're having an off-day offensive.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: And you could beat the Ravens, but I doubt. So...
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: That's 0-9, Richard.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: And you're not wrong. I'm laughing because I think you're right.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: I mean, we called this with the New England Patriots
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: last year when we saw their schedule. They were runway
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: of eight games. We said, they're going to probably win
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: all these.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: You're right.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: They're probably going to lose all these. I mean, moreover,
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: they're on the road, too.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: So.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: For the Chargers, they didn't just lose. They lost by
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: double digits to both of these teams, and they both
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: were at home. So, Richard, this is as bad of
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: a start of the season as the L.A. Chargers and
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: their fan base could have possibly dreamed up.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: And, Mitchell, I don't know where they go from here.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: I don't know how you motivate a team after these
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: kind of losses. I don't know how you motivate a
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: team to get on a flight, a six-hour flight to Buffalo,
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: and expect to convince them that they can beat Josh
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Allen in the way he's been playing. That sounds crazy,
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: but the National Football League has surprised me before. It'll
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: surprise me again. But right now, there are a lot
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: more questions than answers in L.A., and I don't know
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: what to tell them. I don't know what to tell them.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: I thought Mike McDaniel would be the answer. Omarion Hampton
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: is a good back. He had some success in his game.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: But again, defensively, I'm kind of baffled. They've been a
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: good defense. They were a good defense last year. A
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: lot of playmakers. A lot of guys can play the
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: game at a high level. They just have not done it.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: And I know If you weren't able to stop Kirk
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Cousins and the Raiders, you weren't able to stop Jacoby
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Brissett and the Cardinals, you're dang sure ain't about to
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: stop Josh Allen and the Beals. That's for sure.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: No doubt. And it's a cool moment for the Raiders, too.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: Clint Kubiak, new coach there in Vegas. Kirk Cousins, new quarterback.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: This is a great start for them. The future's bright
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: in Vegas for once. Mendoza, giving him an opportunity to
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: learn from a seasoned vet and A little bit of
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: irony here. I just put two and two together. Quarterback
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: from Michigan State, wide receiver from Michigan State, and all
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: of a sudden the Raiders are pretty darn good, baby.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: And I like to hear that, Mitchell. I like Cody White.
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: He was with the Seahawks last year. He's a special
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: teams guy, just a hard work, do-right guy, and he's
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: getting a big opportunity, and he's taking advantage of them.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: So hat tip to Cody White. Good player, and I
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: love that great things are happening for him. As always,
