- 0:32Speaker 1: No case is too big or too small. Reconnecting with
- 0:35Speaker 1: Hutton here. So we went and saw Digger on Friday,
- 0:38Speaker 1: opening day, and apparently we're one of very few Americans
- 0:41Speaker 1: who went and saw this film because it made a
- 0:44Speaker 1: measly $ 8 million at the box office over the weekend.
- 0:48Speaker 1: A gigantic box office flop was Digger. Now, go ahead, Hut.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I was going to say, I don't understand why, just
- 0:57Speaker 2: based on the movie, the film, why everyone's so against
- 1:01Speaker 2: the message because it's straight out of Hollywood. You know,
- 1:04Speaker 2: like to me, this would have been really pushed towards
- 1:07Speaker 2: everyone get back to the theater. And instead it's been silenced.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It's very strange. So it worked.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So I'll go, I'll go, you go. And I want
- 1:17Speaker 1: to give my neighbor, the Canadian Canadian will, as I'll
- 1:20Speaker 1: call him that watched the film with us. It was
- 1:22Speaker 1: a huge Tom Cruise guy like us.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I'll give his quick, Three line review of the movie
- 1:28Speaker 1: that I think was very well said and succinct. I
- 1:31Speaker 1: enjoyed the movie. I can understand the way it was marketed.
- 1:37Speaker 1: If you thought you were going to get one thing
- 1:39Speaker 1: and had a high expectation on it's going to be
- 1:42Speaker 1: this broad, big, satirical, end of the world, climate change
- 1:47Speaker 1: type adventure story. And then you're going to get something
- 1:51Speaker 1: different that you might be put off by it or whatever.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'll say, Hutton, at about the 35, 40 minute mark
- 1:58Speaker 1: of the movie, I'm not going to spoil anything. There's
- 2:00Speaker 1: a big shift in what the movie that you're actually
- 2:03Speaker 1: watching is. And then the rest of the movie is
- 2:07Speaker 1: different and there's pieces of different things throughout it. Some
- 2:10Speaker 1: people may enjoy it. Some people may hate it. I
- 2:13Speaker 1: love that part of it. I actually love that turn
- 2:16Speaker 1: in it because to me, it was very funny and
- 2:20Speaker 1: very broad and very big performances at the start. But
- 2:23Speaker 1: right about the time, I'm like, okay, this is getting
- 2:26Speaker 1: a little tiresome of the back and forth and everything.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm like, boom, there's a huge switch. And then it
- 2:32Speaker 1: goes to something else. I also love the runtime of it,
- 2:35Speaker 1: two hours and eight minutes. It felt about perfect. It
- 2:38Speaker 1: wasn't two hours and 50 minutes. It wasn't over three hours.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It needed to be about two hours and eight minutes
- 2:43Speaker 1: right around that. And that's exactly what it was. And
- 2:46Speaker 1: Tom Cruise is fantastic. It's one of his greatest performances ever.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I believe he's going to get nominated for an Oscar.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I hope he's nominated for an Oscar.
- 2:54Speaker 2: He should be.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I don't know that he's going to win over Matt
- 2:57Speaker 1: Damon for The Odyssey, having seen that movie also. But
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think he is... He plays some of the biggest
- 3:05Speaker 1: and best notes of the Tom Cruise charisma throughout this.
- 3:09Speaker 1: And we're seeing a photo of it. There's a giant
- 3:12Speaker 1: speech in the middle of this. That's incredible.
- 3:15Speaker 2: In this scene, in real time, I'm thinking to myself,
- 3:19Speaker 2: this is going to win the Academy Award. This is
- 3:22Speaker 2: his performance to try to win. And he crushes it.
- 3:28Speaker 2: If you can get to this point in the movie,
- 3:33Speaker 2: you'll appreciate it. Because the first 30 minutes, Chad, I'm
- 3:35Speaker 2: sitting there going, what in the hell are we watching
- 3:38Speaker 2: right now? I don't know if you were thinking that
- 3:40Speaker 2: or not.
- 3:42Speaker 1: There's an animatronic cat.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a cat. It's so strange. You're like, what
- 3:48Speaker 2: is this? And then there is a twist. It's very clever.
- 3:53Speaker 2: And I got into it from there. Honestly, I really
- 3:56Speaker 2: enjoyed it. I'm surprised I did, but I thought the performances,
- 4:01Speaker 2: not just by Cruise, but by Goodman and others, were fantastic.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Riz Ahmed's really good as the scientist assistant to
- 4:11Speaker 1: Tom Cruise's Digger character. Jesse Plemons is good as a
- 4:14Speaker 1: mysterious producer figure that you're going to find out more
- 4:18Speaker 1: about as the story goes on. I thought, yeah, the
- 4:21Speaker 1: performances were great. Acting in it was really good. So
- 4:25Speaker 1: here's my Canadian, Canadian Will, my neighbor, his take on it,
- 4:28Speaker 1: who watched the movie with us. He said, I really
- 4:30Speaker 1: enjoyed it. He said, the problem with a lot of
- 4:32Speaker 1: the very well thought out negative reviews are they are
- 4:35Speaker 1: from leftists who judge this based on whether or not
- 4:38Speaker 1: it's a good climate change movie. This is the most
- 4:41Speaker 1: I've ever enjoyed a quote art film is how you
- 4:44Speaker 1: describe it. That's a good way to put it. I'm
- 4:46Speaker 1: not someone who's rushing out to watch conceptual art films
- 4:51Speaker 1: over and over. I feel like it's something that you,
- 4:53Speaker 1: sometimes need to experience to expand your mind, but it's
- 4:56Speaker 1: not something you feel like you've done a chore. Like
- 4:59Speaker 1: you did the work when you watch two hours of
- 5:01Speaker 1: an art film. A lot of times.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I didn't feel that way. This didn't feel like a
- 5:05Speaker 1: chore to me. It was funny. Well, it was compelling
- 5:09Speaker 1: that the, the, the performances themselves were great. So I
- 5:13Speaker 1: enjoyed the ride of the movie. And I feel like
- 5:15Speaker 1: most art movies, you wouldn't necessarily enjoy the ride. That
- 5:19Speaker 1: was very well said by Canadian.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Well, I agree. I think, too, going back to just
- 5:24Speaker 2: the promotion of this film, I'm surprised that the Hollywood
- 5:30Speaker 2: elitists didn't get behind this and push it based on
- 5:34Speaker 2: the messaging of it. Because it is about climate change.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But Cruise is on the opposite end of it. You
- 5:43Speaker 2: get both sides of this. Let's put it that way.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Whether it's a good message or not, it's a good film.
- 5:51Speaker 2: And it's good for us. Is this the streaming apps
- 5:55Speaker 2: trying to tamp down the theater? I don't know. $ 8 billion,
- 6:00Speaker 2: that's it?
- 6:01Speaker 1: It's just not... I get why it's not going to
- 6:04Speaker 1: be commercially successful. Tom Cruise even said it, though, too.
- 6:08Speaker 1: He's like, I didn't make this movie for an initial
- 6:11Speaker 1: weekend box office pop like you would another Top Gun
- 6:15Speaker 1: sequel or a Days of Thunder sequel. He's like, I
- 6:18Speaker 1: want this movie to stand the test of time. I
- 6:20Speaker 1: want people to watch this 50 years from now and
- 6:22Speaker 1: say that was a classic movie and a really good
- 6:24Speaker 1: performance and a good piece of art.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I think you've got to see the theater the way
- 6:27Speaker 2: we did because of the different things that happened. You
- 6:29Speaker 2: need to see it in the theater to appreciate it
- 6:32Speaker 2: to the full level, right?
- 6:35Speaker 1: The end of it is interesting how it's pulled off
- 6:37Speaker 1: in a theater that you're not going to get anywhere else,
- 6:39Speaker 1: I will say. It's very cool how they do it. Yeah,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I really enjoyed it, Hutton. I know we're probably in
- 6:47Speaker 1: the minority of people that seem to like the movie.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I think the Rotten Tomatoes score now that audiences have
- 6:52Speaker 1: seen is up to like 55% from 41%. So audiences
- 6:54Speaker 1: that have seen it like it more. than a lot
- 6:58Speaker 1: of the critics who have panned it. I think Will
- 7:00Speaker 1: said it well. If you're looking at it through the lens,
- 7:03Speaker 1: if you're obsessed with climate change, and that is a
- 7:06Speaker 1: very key issue to you, and you're watching this movie,
- 7:09Speaker 1: you're like, why are they making fun of this? It's
- 7:11Speaker 1: a satire. And I would think that's hard for people
- 7:14Speaker 1: to comprehend as to what's going on and what they're
- 7:16Speaker 1: poking fun at. So if you look at it through
- 7:18Speaker 1: that lens, you're not going to enjoy it as much,
- 7:20Speaker 1: but I really enjoyed it.
- 7:21Speaker 2: But I mean, they're poking fun at it, but in
- 7:23Speaker 2: the end, both sides get what they want out of it.
- 7:27Speaker 1: In the end, there's a very real message about the possibilities. Yeah,
- 7:32Speaker 1: if you could laugh at both sides, you will love
- 7:34Speaker 1: this film. Let's just put it that way. If you
- 7:35Speaker 1: could laugh and just have a good time and sit
- 7:37Speaker 1: down and enjoy a movie, it's a Tom Cruise movie.
- 7:39Speaker 1: We know that's a tough ask for people to laugh
- 7:42Speaker 1: at all sides.
- 7:43Speaker 2: We enjoyed it. I expect Rotten Tomatoes to go up
- 7:45Speaker 2: because if you go see it, you're a Tom Cruise
- 7:47Speaker 2: fan and you're likely to like it, right?
- 7:49Speaker 1: Depth chart for us, Hutton. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Top ten. Depth chart. Chad is great at pulling just
- 8:01Speaker 2: movies left and right. And I'll credit him for the
- 8:05Speaker 2: depth of the depth chart today.
- 8:08Speaker 1: You made one notable change in this.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I did.
- 8:11Speaker 1: That I'm going to get to on it.
- 8:12Speaker 2: But Chad, the best Tom Cruise top acting performances... Starting
- 8:19Speaker 2: at number 10, Mission Impossible.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah, this is not a list of these are my
- 8:23Speaker 1: favorite Tom Cruise roles or my favorite Tom Cruise movies.
- 8:27Speaker 1: This is a list of movies where I think Tom
- 8:30Speaker 1: Cruise did the best acting of his life in these films.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Number 10, the original Mission Impossible. People get caught up
- 8:37Speaker 1: in the John Woo directed version of Mission Impossible where
- 8:40Speaker 1: it's almost a satire of an action movie. It's so
- 8:43Speaker 1: over the top and crazy. Starting with MI2. where Tom
- 8:47Speaker 1: Cruise has the long hair and Ben Stiller made fun
- 8:49Speaker 1: of him at the MTV Movie Awards for jumping over
- 8:52Speaker 1: everything with a motorcycle and things on fire. The original
- 8:55Speaker 1: Mission Impossible is an action suspense mystery type movie where
- 9:01Speaker 1: Tom Cruise does some of the best face acting. I've
- 9:04Speaker 1: ever seen in my life. Go back and watch the
- 9:07Speaker 1: scene with him and John Voight, where they're at the
- 9:09Speaker 1: dinner table in Prague, and Tom Cruise is having to
- 9:13Speaker 1: react one way to John Voight, telling him a story
- 9:16Speaker 1: that he knows to not be true, and he's thinking
- 9:19Speaker 1: about all the things that actually happened, and how he
- 9:21Speaker 1: was double-crossed in his spy game, and the look in
- 9:25Speaker 1: his face, and he's talking to Kittredge, who appears in
- 9:30Speaker 1: the later Mission Impossible movies, and He gives the line of,
- 9:32Speaker 1: you haven't seen me, very upset, and then blows up
- 9:36Speaker 1: the water tank in the restaurant. Terrific acting job in
- 9:39Speaker 1: the original Mission Impossible all the way back in 1996,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I believe it was, or 97. Was it that long ago?
- 9:45Speaker 2: Wow.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Been a long time. Number nine, The Color of Money.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I've got two in a row here where Tom Cruise
- 9:51Speaker 1: goes toe-to-toe with legends of Hollywood. It was with Paul
- 9:56Speaker 1: Newman in The Color of Money where he is every
- 9:58Speaker 1: bit as good as Newman in in this movie. And
- 10:00Speaker 1: as a young guy, this was 1988, as a young
- 10:04Speaker 1: guy proved he was going to be around for a
- 10:06Speaker 1: long time with his performance as a pool hustler opposite
- 10:10Speaker 1: of Paul Newman. The next one is his role opposite
- 10:14Speaker 1: of Jack Nicholson. And of course the famous scene of
- 10:18Speaker 1: I Want the Truth where You can't handle the truth
- 10:21Speaker 1: from a few good men. Lieutenant Daniel Caffey, one of
- 10:24Speaker 1: my favorite all-time cruise performances. It's not too over the top.
- 10:27Speaker 1: There's a lot of shouting. We're going to get to
- 10:29Speaker 1: Tom Cruise as a shouter. He's one of the best
- 10:32Speaker 1: shouting actors of all time. When he's yelling, he gets better.
- 10:36Speaker 1: When the volume goes up, he gets better. Some actors
- 10:39Speaker 1: are better at underselling things. At being more low-key, Tom
- 10:43Speaker 1: Cruise is the opposite. He gets better and better. As
- 10:46Speaker 1: the octaves go up and the volume goes up and
- 10:49Speaker 1: he starts shouting, he gets better and better. Proof of
- 10:52Speaker 1: that is in a few scenes in A Few Good Men.
- 10:54Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Number seven, very underrated movie to me, The Firm. And
- 10:58Speaker 1: another chance for him to go opposite a legend in
- 11:01Speaker 1: Gene Hackman in this movie. But, I mean, he plays
- 11:04Speaker 1: the gambit. He's young. married attorney to fearful of his
- 11:10Speaker 1: life to a famous Tom Cruise running scene through mud
- 11:14Speaker 1: Island in Memphis, Tennessee in this movie where the, where
- 11:17Speaker 1: it's set. Um, I really love him as Mitch McDeer
- 11:21Speaker 1: in that great John Grisham novel, the firm, but the,
- 11:24Speaker 1: the adaptation of it for film and what he did
- 11:27Speaker 1: with that really good. Number six, Jerry Maguire. Um, No
- 11:33Speaker 1: notes on his performance in this. It is a romantic
- 11:36Speaker 1: comedy that is drama, that is equal parts sports film.
- 11:40Speaker 1: And of course, we get him shouting once again with
- 11:43Speaker 1: Show Me the Money.
- 11:44Speaker 2: To Cuban Gooding Jr. It's so memorable. There's so many
- 11:47Speaker 2: different scenes that are memorable here. But it's more about,
- 11:50Speaker 2: to me, the cast that made this. And the one scene,
- 11:54Speaker 2: Cruise always has that one scene. I pull this more
- 11:59Speaker 2: often when I think of Tom Cruise. But I'm with
- 12:02Speaker 2: you on where we're headed with the rest of the
- 12:04Speaker 2: top 10. But here's six through six to Jerry Maguire,
- 12:07Speaker 2: the firm and and others.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So, by the way, with Jerry Maguire, that made Tom
- 12:15Speaker 1: Cruise more normal in a role than any other movie role,
- 12:18Speaker 1: because he does at times appear like an alien that
- 12:21Speaker 1: was taught something from a human because he feel he
- 12:23Speaker 1: feels out of this world. At times, as a person,
- 12:28Speaker 1: he's a little bit different. Like when he throws the
- 12:30Speaker 1: dog tags at the end of Top Gun, I joked
- 12:32Speaker 1: that he had to have a coordinator teach him how
- 12:33Speaker 1: to throw something, is the way he looks. Jerry Maguire,
- 12:36Speaker 1: he feels like us. Sports fan, sports agent, normal dude,
- 12:41Speaker 1: struggling with romance. Like the whole thing, he feels like
- 12:44Speaker 1: one of us in that movie, maybe more than any
- 12:46Speaker 1: other role. Number five, his turn as a villain in
- 12:50Speaker 1: Collateral with Jamie Foxx. Where he gets Jamie Foxx to
- 12:53Speaker 1: drive him around in a cab all night as he
- 12:55Speaker 1: has a hit list. And he is a hit man
- 12:57Speaker 1: for the mob. Really well done. He's got gray hair.
- 13:01Speaker 1: They age him in it. He's terrifying. This is him
- 13:04Speaker 1: in a non-shouting role. Very underplayed. Very quiet. Very menacing.
- 13:10Speaker 1: of Tom Cruise.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Love his performance there. Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I'm with you in collateral. This was the switch you
- 13:16Speaker 1: made Magnolia. I will agree with you. I had it
- 13:18Speaker 1: too far down the list. It was in the bottom
- 13:20Speaker 1: half of this.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Just based on the, the acting scene of the, with
- 13:25Speaker 2: the father. Um, yeah, that, that emotional scene, uh, so vivid, so, uh, real, um,
- 13:35Speaker 2: you know, you can see the pain, the different things. I, I, I, uh,
- 13:39Speaker 2: I just think of that as there's an actor. If
- 13:42Speaker 2: we're doing the acting top ten, that's got to be
- 13:44Speaker 2: in the top five somewhere. I think a lot of people,
- 13:47Speaker 2: a lot of lists would have this number one. I do.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I don't know. I would put it there. I like
- 13:55Speaker 2: where we're headed here. I think they would be higher
- 13:58Speaker 2: on some lists. I think people would be critical of
- 14:00Speaker 2: where we have it right now.
- 14:02Speaker 1: And with the beauty of our list is it's our list.
- 14:04Speaker 1: And it's definitely not going to mimic a lot of
- 14:05Speaker 1: other people's lists.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I think him playing up his own persona and going
- 14:10Speaker 1: like super over the top douchebag womanizer as TJ Mackey,
- 14:15Speaker 1: a motivational speaker about how to pick up women and
- 14:18Speaker 1: his first scene in the movie where he's on stage
- 14:20Speaker 1: with a little mini mic coming from his headset. And
- 14:23Speaker 1: he's talking about respect the male appendage to everyone. And
- 14:27Speaker 1: that's the name of his book. really, really funny, done
- 14:31Speaker 1: for laughs, but then you had the drama also at
- 14:33Speaker 1: the end with the dad. Number three, we just reviewed it, Digger.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He's terrific.
- 14:39Speaker 2: You've got to see it to know what we're talking
- 14:40Speaker 2: about here. Absolutely.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Prosthetics, by the way, are key for the top three
- 14:45Speaker 1: here as we go along.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yes.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Number two, Born on the Fourth of July. I mean,
- 14:48Speaker 1: we're talking Oscar roles now, nominated for Magnolia, nominated for
- 14:52Speaker 1: Born on the Fourth of July, did not win. Tom
- 14:55Speaker 1: Cruise famously not won an Oscar yet. His role as
- 14:58Speaker 1: Ron Kovac from teenage boy sports star to signing up
- 15:04Speaker 1: and joining the Marines to injured, disenchanted with the Vietnam
- 15:09Speaker 1: War vet in a wheelchair throughout the course of that
- 15:12Speaker 1: movie and the transformation. Terrific work from Tom Cruise. And Hutton,
- 15:18Speaker 1: this is the one that many people aren't going to understand.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But when Tom Cruise... As Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I think this was the moment he won back audiences.
- 15:29Speaker 2: But yeah, because you weren't expecting this.
- 15:32Speaker 1: This was post him calling Matt Lauer a glib. Yes.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Him being very weird on Scientology. Him jumping up and
- 15:39Speaker 1: down on Oprah's couch. The weirdness with the Katie Holmes marriage.
- 15:43Speaker 2: He's back.
- 15:44Speaker 1: And then he was back. And I love that Ben
- 15:46Speaker 1: Siller tells a story that he went to Tom Cruise
- 15:49Speaker 1: and said, we have this part. I think you'd be
- 15:51Speaker 1: hilarious in it. And he read the script and said,
- 15:54Speaker 1: I'm in as long as I can dance in the
- 15:57Speaker 1: movie that he wanted to dance. So the closing credit
- 16:00Speaker 1: sequence where he is dancing as Les Grossman is amazing.
- 16:06Speaker 1: And Hutton, we get the best of Tom Cruise because
- 16:07Speaker 1: he's shouting the entire performance when he's on screen as
- 16:10Speaker 1: Les Grossman.
- 16:11Speaker 2: And there are times where I'm watching it. And I'm
- 16:16Speaker 2: not really thinking that's Tom Cruise. I'm just thinking it's
- 16:19Speaker 2: one of the guys that hang out with Ben Stiller.
- 16:23Speaker 2: That was cool because you weren't expecting that performance based
- 16:27Speaker 2: on what we knew Cruise to be at the time.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it felt like all of Adam Sandler's buddies that
- 16:31Speaker 1: appear in every movie. They can just jump in and
- 16:33Speaker 1: out of these crazy parts and be really funny. And
- 16:35Speaker 1: it's just a bunch of dudes hanging out with each other.
- 16:38Speaker 1: And that's literally how Adam Sandler shoots a movie. Let's
- 16:41Speaker 1: just get together and throw some stuff on the screen
- 16:43Speaker 1: and have fun. So 10 through 1, best Tom Cruise
- 16:46Speaker 1: acting performance is number 10, The Original Mission Impossible. Number 9,
- 16:50Speaker 1: opposite of Paul Newman, Color of Money. Number 8, as
- 16:54Speaker 1: Lieutenant Caffey in A Few Good Men. Number 7 is
- 16:57Speaker 1: Mitch McDeer in The Firm. Number 6, Jerry Maguire. Number 5,
- 17:01Speaker 1: The Turn is the Villain in Collateral. Number 4, Magnolia,
- 17:05Speaker 1: got nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in
- 17:07Speaker 1: that one. Number three, Digger. I believe he will be
- 17:10Speaker 1: nominated for an Oscar for his role in this one.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Number two, Born on the Fourth of July. Number one,
- 17:15Speaker 1: Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder. There's your top ten.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I love it. I'm with you on this. We've got
- 17:21Speaker 2: our top ten there. That's our depth chart. Chad, on
- 17:24Speaker 2: the way out, I'm curious. Who's the best supporting actor
- 17:28Speaker 2: of that film?
- 17:29Speaker 1: Riz Ahmed. I think it's either him or John Goodman.
- 17:31Speaker 2: I think it's John Goodman.
- 17:32Speaker 1: It's one or the other. I think both are terrific.
- 17:34Speaker 1: But I think Riz Ahmed playing drunk... In that movie,
- 17:38Speaker 1: he's really, really good.
- 17:39Speaker 2: I thought the same thing. That's difficult to pull off.
- 17:40Speaker 2: He did a great job. He did a great job
- 17:42Speaker 2: playing drunk. How does John Goodman get the veins to
- 17:46Speaker 2: pop out of his head the way he did? The
- 17:50Speaker 2: way he looked, it's so insane. Well done to Roseanne's husband.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'm going to mention something to you in break hunting.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I don't want to say it here because I don't
- 17:59Speaker 1: want to spoil it for anyone who wants to watch
- 18:01Speaker 1: the movie. But there's a part in the movie where
- 18:03Speaker 1: I'm like, damn, these guys are good actors.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 18:07Speaker 1: With him, but if I say it, it reveals a
- 18:10Speaker 1: big twist in the plot, so I'll tell you during
- 18:12Speaker 1: the break.
- 18:12Speaker 2: All right. Coming up, we talk some college football, and
- 18:16Speaker 2: not big money, but small money. Can we actually see
- 18:21Speaker 2: a Tampa Bay Rays version of a team in college football?
- 18:24Speaker 2: It's a great question that Chad poses. We discuss it next.
- 18:27Speaker 2: You're on time to Withrow. Withrow, you got your Crockett
- 18:29Speaker 2: coffee right there with you?
- 18:30Speaker 1: No. You know it, Hutton.
- 18:32Speaker 2: There it is.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Fueled by Crockett Coffee each and every morning on this show.

- 19:33Speaker 2: The Braves play what time?
- 19:36Speaker 1: Today? Play at 5 o'clock? I've got to go double-check.
- 19:40Speaker 1: They play at 5 one day and 7 the next.
- 19:42Speaker 1: but I don't know if it's one or the other.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Strike up the tomahawks there. Hey, Hudden, we got a
- 19:47Speaker 1: big fan of the YouTube chat. You ready? BigKurko69. BigKurko69 says, Chad,
- 19:54Speaker 1: did 104.5 let you go because of ratings? Or did
- 19:58Speaker 1: you leave because it was an easier ride on Clay's coattails?
- 20:01Speaker 1: Right-wing grifting is an easy way to make money. MAGA
- 20:05Speaker 1: people are legit retarded. JT brought up a great question.
- 20:08Speaker 1: People really flip it now by calling everybody retarded all
- 20:11Speaker 1: the time, which is not something that we've used since
- 20:13Speaker 1: seventh grade, I feel like, since we were around.
- 20:16Speaker 2: We haven't heard it since The Hangover.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and then Big Kirko says, Clay Travis Law, the
- 20:21Speaker 1: grifter said the MAGA money is soon to dry up.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I have to ambulance chase now. Then he says, right,
- 20:27Speaker 1: because MAGA people are retarded. Okay, very progressive take there.
- 20:33Speaker 1: From Big Kirk 069. Big Kirk, I'll tell you why
- 20:37Speaker 1: I left 104.5 The Zone. Because I got offered more
- 20:39Speaker 1: money to go somewhere else. A lot more money. And
- 20:44Speaker 1: right now, I'm making a lot more money than I
- 20:46Speaker 1: ever made at 104.5 The Zone or ever would make.
- 20:49Speaker 1: at 104.5 The Zone or any local radio station. We
- 20:53Speaker 1: also have JT that's producing our show right now. He's
- 20:56Speaker 1: also no longer at 104.5 The Zone. I'm not going
- 20:59Speaker 1: to get JT in any trouble, but I'll go ahead
- 21:00Speaker 1: and say he probably left.
- 21:02Speaker 2: You know why?
- 21:03Speaker 1: Because he has a family. and children, and JT took
- 21:07Speaker 1: a job in the non-entertainment division to make more money.
- 21:12Speaker 1: And guess what? JT loves working with good people and
- 21:16Speaker 1: talented people so much that now he's working with us again.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And guess what he's doing? Making more money. This may
- 21:22Speaker 1: insult you. This may offend you. I do not care.
- 21:25Speaker 1: This is a capitalistic society. And everyone out there, if
- 21:29Speaker 1: they get offered more money to work a job to
- 21:31Speaker 1: help provide for their families or themselves, would likely take
- 21:36Speaker 1: the job to make more money. Also, I love working
- 21:39Speaker 1: for Clay. I love working for Sport & State. I
- 21:42Speaker 1: loved working for Outkick when Clay was in charge of Outkick.
- 21:45Speaker 1: So I'm thrilled to be working under Clay again. So
- 21:48Speaker 1: you can take that for what it's worth. You can
- 21:51Speaker 1: hate it, and I'm sure you will. Don't care. But
- 21:53Speaker 1: it shouldn't shock anyone that in a capitalist society, a
- 21:57Speaker 1: free market system in America... Yes, I took a job
- 22:01Speaker 1: that pays more money to help provide for my family
- 22:04Speaker 1: and to send my family to private school also, which,
- 22:07Speaker 1: by the way, is not cheap. So, yes, I took
- 22:10Speaker 1: a job that made more money. I'm sorry if that
- 22:11Speaker 1: offends you. I don't understand. Pocket coffee is delicious.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Why bring up that topic when you're in a chat
- 22:18Speaker 2: at 923 Eastern on a Tuesday morning talking and calling
- 22:24Speaker 2: someone retarded? I don't know what there is to gain there.
- 22:29Speaker 2: As if we had bad ratings. I mean, what?
- 22:34Speaker 1: I can guarantee you we did not have bad ratings.
- 22:38Speaker 1: And I can also guarantee you that Hutton and I
- 22:41Speaker 1: had offers to stay. That's very fair. We got a
- 22:46Speaker 1: better offer. I love my time at 104.5 The Zone.
- 22:50Speaker 1: It was a great start to my career, and it
- 22:52Speaker 1: was my career for many years. Loved the people there.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Loved the time there. It was a blast. We're doing
- 22:58Speaker 1: high school football now on Friday nights on YouTube because
- 23:02Speaker 1: we've been given an opportunity to do it. We don't
- 23:04Speaker 1: have to do that. We want to do it. We
- 23:06Speaker 1: want to do it. It's fun. We want to be
- 23:08Speaker 1: around high school football. I miss that part of my
- 23:09Speaker 1: job every Friday during the fall. I know JT doesn't
- 23:12Speaker 1: miss it at times, but I did miss that part
- 23:16Speaker 1: of my job. JT does not miss– The trivia. Trivia trifecta.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I really want to bring that back on this show
- 23:24Speaker 1: just to mess with JT. JT, what would be your
- 23:26Speaker 1: thoughts if I said, hey, on Thursday for an hour,
- 23:29Speaker 1: we're going to do trivia trifecta?
- 23:30Speaker 2: I would be sick. Like, physically ill.
- 23:33Speaker 3: But also, to our buddy, Big Kirk, Kirko69, if you
- 23:40Speaker 3: have the number 69 in your username in a chat,
- 23:44Speaker 3: I'll smash you up.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I had it, by the way, in high school. That
- 23:47Speaker 2: was Jay Hutton 69. That's fine.
- 23:48Speaker 1: You were in high school, dude. Yeah, you were on
- 23:50Speaker 1: AOL in high school.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I was on AOL Instant Messenger, age, sex, location, Jay
- 23:56Speaker 2: Hutton 69. I mean, come on, dude.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Like, legit, you've got 69 in your username in a
- 24:04Speaker 3: chat room on YouTube?
- 24:05Speaker 2: Like, thank you for watching, first and foremost. But yes,
- 24:10Speaker 2: let's work on just editing that if you don't mind.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I had no idea what, I had not even done anything.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I'm jhutton underscore 69 at Hotmail.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Lou in the chat. Thank you, JT.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Excellent.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Excellent drop in.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I barely held hands with the girl in the movie
- 24:26Speaker 2: theater at the time.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Do you think that really got the ladies going when
- 24:30Speaker 1: they saw the 69er? Oh, yeah.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I went to email. And I was just, you know,
- 24:33Speaker 2: jhutton underscore 69.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Oh, this guy's serious. He has 69 on his handle.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I hear Eminem talking about it, so I might
- 24:40Speaker 2: as well put it in my head.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Luman007 says, now I understand why I was blocked day one.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Screw JT. JT is a snake. To which Mark Herman
- 24:50Speaker 1: responds and says, you're not blocked. I can see what
- 24:52Speaker 1: you're saying. It doesn't add much value, but here you
- 24:55Speaker 1: are nonetheless. Well played by Mark.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Well played.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Couldn't have said it better myself, Mark. Great job.
- 25:00Speaker 2: I'm glad that so many people, and I mean this genuinely,
- 25:04Speaker 2: that found us after the zone. Like, again, like, it's
- 25:09Speaker 2: cool to see some people that, or hear from people
- 25:11Speaker 2: that listened to the show then. I mean, that's been
- 25:14Speaker 2: a while.
- 25:15Speaker 1: It's been a long time. You know, we talk a
- 25:17Speaker 1: lot with the Next Round Live guys who are on
- 25:19Speaker 1: after us.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:20Speaker 1: And they had such a loyal local radio following for years.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Brooks Carter, who does a terrific job with our show.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:25Speaker 1: That's a part of theirs too. The amount of people
- 25:29Speaker 1: that still, and they've done a great job breaking off
- 25:31Speaker 1: on their own, but still remember them from local radio
- 25:35Speaker 1: is a compliment to those guys in that show. I
- 25:38Speaker 1: take it as a compliment too. When someone brings up
- 25:41Speaker 1: 104.5 The Zone or our old show or anything, I'm thinking, well,
- 25:44Speaker 1: I'm glad that left an impression. It's not just forgotten.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I'm even more thrilled that some people have found a
- 25:51Speaker 1: way to find us Digitally, we see the podcast numbers,
- 25:56Speaker 1: which are growing on YouTube, on X, on wherever you
- 26:00Speaker 1: can find us. As Jacob Lutz likes to say, wherever
- 26:02Speaker 1: we do business, we're live. We're live every day, 7
- 26:05Speaker 1: to 9 a.m. Central, 8 to 10 a.m. Eastern. You
- 26:08Speaker 1: can catch clips throughout the day. There's been a lot
- 26:12Speaker 1: of animosity on today's show, but I truly am thankful
- 26:15Speaker 1: that whoever has found us has found us and knows
- 26:18Speaker 1: what we're doing or can see that we're still doing
- 26:20Speaker 1: this every single day. So thank you, thank you, thank
- 26:23Speaker 1: you for that. And thank you to BigKirk069 for finding
- 26:26Speaker 1: us and watching the show on YouTube and chatting. I mean,
- 26:30Speaker 1: you've got to thank the haters as much as the
- 26:31Speaker 1: lovers out there. So we appreciate him as well.
- 26:35Speaker 2: I mean, was there– did– I mean, Mariota was supported
- 26:39Speaker 2: to some degree. I'm trying to think of– because the
- 26:42Speaker 2: animosity chat, I'm going back to what you said just now,
- 26:45Speaker 2: stems from what you said about Cam yesterday– It hasn't
- 26:50Speaker 2: been this much just overlapping support for poor play. I'm
- 26:55Speaker 2: trying to figure out who that would be. Jake Locker,
- 26:58Speaker 2: absolutely not. People like Jake Locker, too.
- 27:01Speaker 1: They just felt like he's a decent dude. There was
- 27:04Speaker 1: just not a lot.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Of hatred towards Jake Locker. He just quit and went home,
- 27:09Speaker 2: went back to Washington. But he also got beat up. Hasselbeck. Again,
- 27:14Speaker 2: there's not been Tannehill. There's not been this overriding just
- 27:18Speaker 2: support like we see for Cam, which is also surprising
- 27:21Speaker 2: to me because it's been poor play. It's no different
- 27:24Speaker 2: than Will Levis in regards to results.
- 27:27Speaker 1: And look, I mean, anytime, if you take something out
- 27:31Speaker 1: of a zero in on a small square or circle
- 27:35Speaker 1: of a response, like I think the people that are
- 27:39Speaker 1: diehard in Cam's corner, they're way outnumbered by people who
- 27:44Speaker 1: are not. Based on his play. Titans fans. We'll see
- 27:47Speaker 1: the attendance Sunday. I'm going to hear from everybody calling
- 27:49Speaker 1: me a retard, you know, on social media and see
- 27:52Speaker 1: all that. But the vast majority of people are out
- 27:55Speaker 1: on Cam Ward. And, look, I'm not– I believe Mitch
- 27:59Speaker 1: Trubisky would give this team a better chance to win.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Is he the solution at quarterback moving forward? Absolutely not.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Do I believe that Cam Ward is the solution moving forward? No.
- 28:08Speaker 1: My big, broad question, this is for Titans fans, for
- 28:11Speaker 1: any NFL fan base out there that's watching this show.
- 28:15Speaker 1: When is it time? Okay, it was 3-14. Now it's 0-4.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I don't think they're that much closer to suddenly reeling
- 28:24Speaker 1: off a bunch of wins. They've got an 0-4 team
- 28:27Speaker 1: at home. They're a seven-point underdog. Two against on Sunday.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Just a game closer to the stadium. When do you decide, like, okay,
- 28:34Speaker 1: if you go to 0-8? Well, at 0-8, the season's over.
- 28:38Speaker 1: by a long shot. So are you trying to rally
- 28:41Speaker 1: the troops to show you're doing everything you can to
- 28:43Speaker 1: win at that point by making a quarterback change? It's
- 28:47Speaker 1: not an easy question to answer. I know how I
- 28:50Speaker 1: would answer it. I know there's a lot of contributing
- 28:51Speaker 1: factors also, Hutton, where the decision may not be resting
- 28:55Speaker 1: solely with Robert Sala.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Maybe not. Kaharski says he expects the camp to play
- 29:00Speaker 2: the entire season. That would just stem from he's the
- 29:05Speaker 2: marketing arm of the team and we want to see
- 29:08Speaker 2: him improve. I'm saying we, as the organization would say that, um,
- 29:13Speaker 2: I want to know what the, what the roster would
- 29:15Speaker 2: be saying. You know, the players will, will speak. Uh,
- 29:18Speaker 2: they're not idiots. They're not, they're not retards.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh, to quote our friends online.
- 29:25Speaker 2: But like your body. And then I've said this yesterday,
- 29:29Speaker 2: it was all gas, no break. And now it's, uh,
- 29:32Speaker 2: we're getting better by the week. Um, I just, and
- 29:35Speaker 2: that happened fast. There was a quick change to, uh,
- 29:39Speaker 2: this is our floor and wait until you see us
- 29:41Speaker 2: in December. Well, how about, how about beat the jets
- 29:43Speaker 2: in September instead of Chad, instead of you could have
- 29:47Speaker 2: I asked and I retard.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Yes. I mean, I just, I don't know, like what,
- 29:53Speaker 1: what do you need to see? The big common response
- 29:57Speaker 1: is let him develop. And this is stop freaking out.
- 30:01Speaker 1: It's 21 games into this now.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I need to say this too. He could go and
- 30:06Speaker 2: ball out on Sunday. It's not about one performance. It
- 30:10Speaker 2: is time to stack performances. It's time to stack production. Consistency.
- 30:16Speaker 2: A guy that takes the field that you know at
- 30:18Speaker 2: minimum is going to lead this team down the field
- 30:20Speaker 2: and score some points every now and then. Not just
- 30:23Speaker 2: like three per half. That's where I'm coming from. He
- 30:28Speaker 2: can have more passing yards than he did last week.
- 30:30Speaker 2: That's great. Fantastic. Building on that would be passing to
- 30:35Speaker 2: the red zone. Maybe we get back to that in
- 30:38Speaker 2: the playbook.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and I don't think anybody in the organization wants
- 30:41Speaker 1: to lose. I don't think they wake up in the
- 30:43Speaker 1: morning and they set out and say, you know what
- 30:45Speaker 1: I'd like to do this week? Make losing decisions. to
- 30:47Speaker 1: go and lose another football game on Sunday. I don't
- 30:49Speaker 1: think anybody in the marketing department or the ownership or
- 30:52Speaker 1: anybody is thinking that about this team.
- 30:54Speaker 2: They don't walk on eggshells when you win.
- 30:55Speaker 1: But my big question would be, are you completely turning
- 31:01Speaker 1: things over to win? Okay, and by doing that, you
- 31:05Speaker 1: might have to make a decision that hurts the marketing
- 31:08Speaker 1: arm about the new stadium and the number one overall pick.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Because you may need to try something else at quarterback
- 31:14Speaker 1: and see if the team rallies behind that and you
- 31:16Speaker 1: get better production and less mistakes from that position. Is
- 31:20Speaker 1: Mitch Trubisky going to go and throw that interception at
- 31:23Speaker 1: the end of the Giants game in that same spot?
- 31:25Speaker 1: I don't know. Why do I not know? Because we
- 31:26Speaker 1: haven't seen Mitch Trubisky yet.
- 31:27Speaker 2: At minimum, he could do these same play calls that
- 31:30Speaker 2: they did in the red zone that Cam did.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Are they going to throw it more than one out
- 31:34Speaker 1: of 15 times in the red zone? With Mitch Trubisky.
- 31:37Speaker 1: I don't know because we haven't seen Mitch Trubisky. I
- 31:39Speaker 1: think they would. I think they might even trust him
- 31:41Speaker 1: more at Brian Dayball or the coaching staff than they
- 31:44Speaker 1: would Cam Ward in the same spot. If that's the case,
- 31:46Speaker 1: are you doing everything and making every decision with the
- 31:49Speaker 1: sole focus on winning? Or are you combining a bunch
- 31:52Speaker 1: of other factors into it? We've talked about Josh Heupel today.
- 31:55Speaker 1: He made a very difficult decision on Saturday. Some would
- 31:58Speaker 1: say it was too rash. to say that's the kid's
- 32:01Speaker 1: first ever interception, you bench him, and then you're going
- 32:03Speaker 1: to put in the backup at the one-yard line with
- 32:06Speaker 1: two and a half minutes left until halftime. He did that,
- 32:09Speaker 1: and it worked out. It was a bold decision. It
- 32:11Speaker 1: paid off for him. But, Hutton, that's a decision made
- 32:14Speaker 1: solely with a focus on winning the football game you're
- 32:16Speaker 1: in and you're playing and saying, we've got to abort.
- 32:20Speaker 1: We've got to abort mission. We've got to get out
- 32:21Speaker 1: of our plan with this quarterback in this game, and
- 32:24Speaker 1: we're going to go to the backup. And they went
- 32:25Speaker 1: on and won the game. Are the Titans coaches given
- 32:28Speaker 1: the same freedoms to do that? I don't know.
- 32:32Speaker 2: They would have to. And I would say, again, I'll
- 32:34Speaker 2: go back to it. It's just too early right now
- 32:36Speaker 2: because of Brian Dable. I'm allowing him time, but it
- 32:40Speaker 2: is about October. It's not about the full season to me.
- 32:44Speaker 2: It is about the Texans, the Colts, and the Browns.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Because it should have been, instead of looking to December,
- 32:51Speaker 2: we should have been talking more about the Jets and
- 32:53Speaker 2: the Eagles and uh, and the giants and the Ravens
- 32:57Speaker 2: and played against Gino Smith. Uh, you know, Jalen hurts
- 33:01Speaker 2: who played, played well, but he threw from the pocket. Uh,
- 33:04Speaker 2: but beyond that, you got Jameis Winston and a half
- 33:06Speaker 2: of Tyler Huntley, uh, with those games with those games.
- 33:11Speaker 2: And I'm tired of hearing about the old one score games.
- 33:13Speaker 2: It's not like they're getting boat raced GTFO with that. Um,
- 33:18Speaker 2: For perspective, just briefly, Chad, there have been 18 games
- 33:21Speaker 2: this season that feature a game winning score in the
- 33:23Speaker 2: final four minutes of regulation or overtime.
- 33:25Speaker 1: 18.
- 33:26Speaker 2: That's tied for the most. There have been 15 field
- 33:29Speaker 2: goals made for 50 or more yards. Dudes are like
- 33:31Speaker 2: tying games all over the place. There have been 37
- 33:34Speaker 2: instances this season of a team scoring at least 30
- 33:36Speaker 2: points in a game. 37 this season of a team
- 33:40Speaker 2: scoring at least 30 points in a game. That's the NFL.
- 33:48Speaker 2: What are the points?
- 33:50Speaker 1: It's every week it's the same stuff. There's no variation.
- 33:55Speaker 1: There's just different levels of bad with the Titans. Not
- 34:00Speaker 1: breaking 20 again. It's not like they lost in an
- 34:02Speaker 1: exciting shootout. It's just every week it's a similar story,
- 34:08Speaker 1: but it's all ultimately the same that ends in a
- 34:10Speaker 1: Titans loss.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Chad, coming up, let's discuss the SEC and the TV
- 34:16Speaker 2: schedule because– This is also maddening with how ESPN is handling.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Clay had some scoop yesterday. He was talking to some
- 34:26Speaker 1: people in Tennessee that are livid that they were promised
- 34:30Speaker 1: a night game against Alabama, and instead they were given
- 34:33Speaker 1: a 3-30 game.
- 34:34Speaker 2: We've got that, plus we have the SEC power lineup.
- 34:37Speaker 2: We'll tell you what Hard Rock Bet has in store
- 34:40Speaker 2: for the SEC matchups coming up this weekend. It is
- 34:43Speaker 2: Hutton and Withrow. Got plenty of gear. Athletic apparel, Nashville Balls.
- 34:48Speaker 2: You can grab that with XXXY Athletics. Founded by Jennifer Say,
- 34:52Speaker 2: the former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She
- 34:55Speaker 2: walked away from a corporate job rather than saying something
- 34:58Speaker 2: that she didn't believe. And she started XXXY Athletics instead.
- 35:01Speaker 2: And the mission, in their words, empower female athletes, take
- 35:04Speaker 2: a stand for fair competition. And they call it the
- 35:07Speaker 2: T that launched a movement. This is real athletic apparel,
- 35:10Speaker 2: Nashville Balls gear. You can grab it right now, Chad.
- 35:13Speaker 1: That's right. The future WNBA dynasty, dare I say. Nashville balls, tees,
- 35:19Speaker 1: trucker hats. You can get them right now with XXXY.
- 35:21Speaker 1: New customers get 20% off your first order when you
- 35:23Speaker 1: sign up and free shipping over $ 100. XXXYathletics.com. That's XX-XYathletics.com.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Isn't it amazing how LSU always ends up with these
- 35:34Speaker 2: night games? Across the conference, fewer and fewer opportunities. for
- 35:40Speaker 2: primetime under-the-lights matchups because, well, ESPN's tried to make the
- 35:46Speaker 2: most of the ratings throughout the entire college football day.
- 35:50Speaker 1: And it's getting to be maddening for certain teams. I know, Clay,
- 35:54Speaker 1: yesterday there's a story up at Sporting State as well
- 35:58Speaker 1: about Clay's take on how mad Tennessee is about not
- 36:03Speaker 1: getting a night game for Tennessee-Alabama in two weeks. So
- 36:07Speaker 1: this is also what is– Next Saturday, not this one,
- 36:11Speaker 1: next Saturday makes zero sense in terms of being an
- 36:15Speaker 1: SEC football fan. Here's what the day looks like. Florida
- 36:18Speaker 1: is at Texas at 11 a.m. And, speaking of LSU, Hutton,
- 36:23Speaker 1: Mississippi State LSU at 11 a.m.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Wow.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Not at night. Mississippi State LSU will also be at
- 36:29Speaker 1: 11 a.m. At 2.30 Central Time, 3.30 Eastern. You're going
- 36:33Speaker 1: to have Tennessee and Alabama, and you're going to have
- 36:36Speaker 1: Auburn and Georgia go head-to-head.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Wow.
- 36:38Speaker 1: They're not separating those. The night slate features Arkansas at
- 36:43Speaker 1: Vandy and Kentucky at Oklahoma. What is happening with this
- 36:49Speaker 1: is the SEC has become so powerful with their ratings.
- 36:53Speaker 1: on ABC and ESPN, that they are protecting BYU-Notre Dame
- 36:58Speaker 1: at night. That is going to be a top 10
- 37:00Speaker 1: versus top 10 AP matchup, as well as Florida State-Miami
- 37:04Speaker 1: at night, because they know that if they put Tennessee-Alabama
- 37:08Speaker 1: against those games, it's going to drastically affect the ratings
- 37:12Speaker 1: of those games at night. Here's the numbers of Tennessee-Alabama.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Versus Miami and Florida State, by the way, head-to-head. And
- 37:19Speaker 1: this is since going back to 2022. You see it's
- 37:23Speaker 1: an average of 9.19 million to 3.89 million. Almost 6
- 37:27Speaker 1: million more viewers for Tennessee and Alabama versus Miami and
- 37:30Speaker 1: Florida State. Now, it's going to be more aesthetically pleasing
- 37:35Speaker 1: that we're going to see these colors on the field
- 37:37Speaker 1: together when the game starts in the daylight and ends
- 37:40Speaker 1: at night. I will say for people that we're going
- 37:43Speaker 1: to be at the game hunting, because it's going to
- 37:44Speaker 1: be the Orange of Tennessee versus the Alabama Crimson. The
- 37:47Speaker 1: first time since I think the 70s that they've gone
- 37:50Speaker 1: head to head in their color uniforms against each other.
- 37:54Speaker 1: That's going to be very cool to see. But from
- 37:56Speaker 1: a television viewer perspective, it makes no sense. And I
- 37:59Speaker 1: can understand why Tennessee would be mad after playing Texas
- 38:02Speaker 1: at 11 a.m. and hoping for a night game, and
- 38:05Speaker 1: being told by ESPN that Tennessee-Alabama would be a night game,
- 38:09Speaker 1: and then making the switch to 3.30 Eastern time.
- 38:13Speaker 2: It feels like the old CBS time slot, but at
- 38:17Speaker 2: the same time, it's not the marquee matchup. It's not
- 38:20Speaker 2: the time slot that ESPN is protecting. They're also guaranteeing
- 38:24Speaker 2: massive ratings throughout the entire day. Massive. Chad, this past weekend,
- 38:32Speaker 2: same thing. It's not like there were great games on
- 38:35Speaker 2: at night. I was flipping through. I didn't have the
- 38:39Speaker 2: same vibe that we had the weekend prior. It's a
- 38:42Speaker 2: very democratic. You can make that happen easily.
- 38:46Speaker 1: It's a very democratic approach to spreading it out and
- 38:50Speaker 1: spreading the wealth to another conference and another two set
- 38:52Speaker 1: of games at night. So I understand the thinking by ESPN.
- 38:56Speaker 1: But what the SEC is thinking is we're your top
- 38:59Speaker 1: partner and you're burying good games on top of each other.
- 39:02Speaker 1: for our audience to watch. And we've seen the numbers.
- 39:05Speaker 1: America watches the SEC also. So now what you're doing
- 39:08Speaker 1: is you're putting our two best games, two of our
- 39:10Speaker 1: best games, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, head-to-head, and you're putting Texas, Florida,
- 39:16Speaker 1: Mississippi State, LSU, head-to-head at 11 a.m., where if you
- 39:20Speaker 1: spread the wealth a little bit more and put one
- 39:22Speaker 1: of those games at night, Tennessee-Alabama should be that, then
- 39:27Speaker 1: you've got a guaranteed huge number throughout the day. They're
- 39:30Speaker 1: protecting BYU-Notre Dame. Now you could also say, well, they're
- 39:34Speaker 1: protecting Tennessee-Alabama because their number is going to be affected
- 39:36Speaker 1: by Notre Dame-BYU also, top 10 versus top 10. That's true,
- 39:41Speaker 1: but it doesn't help the SEC fan that wants to
- 39:43Speaker 1: watch all the games throughout the day one into the other,
- 39:47Speaker 1: big game, big game, big game is how it's set up.
- 39:50Speaker 1: And you've got other games sprinkled in at different times
- 39:52Speaker 1: to go with that. But when you combine those games
- 39:55Speaker 1: together in those first two time slots, it's definitely not
- 39:58Speaker 1: what's right for the SEC. Is it what's right for America?
- 40:01Speaker 1: Is it what's right for ESPN? I guess you can
- 40:04Speaker 1: make that argument, but I can understand where the SEC
- 40:07Speaker 1: would be upset about that.
- 40:09Speaker 2: I mean, for what they're paying, You know, they have
- 40:13Speaker 2: the right to do it. Let's put it that way, man.
- 40:16Speaker 2: The SEC's not complaining about that one bit. Big Tim
- 40:19Speaker 2: would love to beat him.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Oh, well, if you notice in the sport and state story,
- 40:24Speaker 1: we reached out to Tennessee for comment, and they had
- 40:27Speaker 1: no comment. And the SEC had no comment. And I said, yeah, smart.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Because the reason you said, they're paying enough money where
- 40:32Speaker 1: Tennessee can bitch and be mad all they want. But
- 40:35Speaker 1: guess what? When the Disney execs tell you to kick
- 40:37Speaker 1: that football off at 11 a.m. Central Time against Texas,
- 40:40Speaker 1: you're going to put boot to leather at 11 a.m.
- 40:44Speaker 1: If they told you to do it at 7.30 at night,
- 40:47Speaker 1: you're going to put boot to leather whenever the hell
- 40:49Speaker 1: Disney and ABC tells you to do it. So ultimately
- 40:53Speaker 1: they can be mad all they want. I'm not happy
- 40:55Speaker 1: about it. I wish the game was at night. I
- 40:56Speaker 1: definitely wish that Texas-Tennessee game was at night. But ESPN
- 41:00Speaker 1: gets the say. When you accept the money, you accept
- 41:03Speaker 1: their terms. And the SEC has no problem taking that money.
- 41:06Speaker 1: They're going to make even more in the future. from
- 41:09Speaker 1: all of their different television partners. But until that changes,
- 41:13Speaker 1: they do whatever ESPN says.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Chad, coming up, we have our SEC look around the
- 41:21Speaker 2: SEC with Hard Rock Bet. The power lineup is what
- 41:25Speaker 2: we call it. We're going to compare some matchups. Which
- 41:28Speaker 2: way would we play it early in the week? How
- 41:29Speaker 2: do we think the lines will go moving forward throughout
- 41:32Speaker 2: the week? And we'll also maybe discuss a little amazing parlay.
- 41:39Speaker 2: that one user had in Hard Rock Bet. Plus, I
- 41:41Speaker 2: want to get your take on a couple of baseball
- 41:43Speaker 2: games as well. Straight ahead here on Time to Withdraw.
- 41:45Speaker 1: This year, the party's getting even bigger. Hey, there's Jay Boyd.
- 41:49Speaker 2: They know me. This party, everybody's somebody.
- 41:52Speaker 3: And Hard Rock Bet has something for everyone. Plus, new
- 41:56Speaker 3: customers bid $ 5 and get up to $ 500 in no-sweat bets.

- 42:10Speaker 2: the app. New customers, bet $ 5. Get up to $ 500
- 42:12Speaker 2: in no-sweat bets. And Hard Rock, the official partner with
- 42:17Speaker 2: the Tampa Bay Bucs, and that means they're going to
- 42:20Speaker 2: have some great things coming up on Thursday and a
- 42:23Speaker 2: profit boost token for the Thursday night games during the season.
- 42:26Speaker 2: And I would remind, I said a reminder on my phone,
- 42:29Speaker 2: the happy hour on Fridays from 4 to 6 p.m. Eastern.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Send a reminder to There's an extra boost there for
- 42:35Speaker 2: you as well during the happy hour on Fridays as
- 42:39Speaker 2: you get ready to get those last-minute bets in going
- 42:43Speaker 2: into the Saturday slate. And speaking of that, Chad, it's
- 42:46Speaker 2: time to take a peek around the SEC with the
- 42:50Speaker 2: SEC Power lineup, looking at the spreads as they opened
- 42:54Speaker 2: up this week. What jumps out to me just from
- 42:57Speaker 2: the jump, Bama favored 1.5%. against Georgia, it's basically a
- 43:03Speaker 2: pick-em because they're playing at home.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that's to me the most difficult one to pick
- 43:08Speaker 1: right now early in the week. I have a hard
- 43:10Speaker 1: time settling on anything with that game and what's going
- 43:12Speaker 1: to happen. I like Kentucky plus 9.5 at home.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Yes.
- 43:18Speaker 1: The way they're playing right now against LSU, I think
- 43:21Speaker 1: that's a big number.
- 43:22Speaker 2: I'm surprised that it's 9.5. I really am. I'm not
- 43:26Speaker 2: surprised of the 8.5 for Texas.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think the other one, two to look
- 43:30Speaker 1: at with the road favorite, LSU at Kentucky, Ole Miss
- 43:34Speaker 1: at Vandy, both 9 1⁄2. Is Jared Curtis healthy? I
- 43:38Speaker 1: think he is. There was a question about whether or
- 43:39Speaker 1: not he's going to go against Georgia. They kept him out.
- 43:41Speaker 1: I think he should be back on Saturday. If he is,
- 43:45Speaker 1: I might lean Vandy covering the 9 1⁄2. Yep. The
- 43:47Speaker 1: other one, Hutton, that I just don't really understand is
- 43:53Speaker 1: I know Oklahoma has defense. But Texas has an even
- 43:56Speaker 1: better defense, and they have some offense. Oklahoma has no offense. Right.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I think Texas wins by double digits.
- 44:02Speaker 2: I do too.
- 44:03Speaker 1: At least.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I was taking a peek at that for later in
- 44:06Speaker 2: the week. You may have it as well.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Yeah. So that's one I've circled also. But it's going
- 44:12Speaker 1: to be a fun weekend of games in South Carolina. Hey.
- 44:15Speaker 1: This could be the death knell possibly for– For Shane Beamer,
- 44:19Speaker 1: if they get completely blown out. But the reporters are
- 44:22Speaker 1: saying that they're not anticipating that just based on the buyout.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I mean, what a sad state where you want to
- 44:29Speaker 1: fire a guy, but you can't based on the finances
- 44:31Speaker 1: in the SEC.
- 44:34Speaker 2: That's mind-boggling to me.
- 44:36Speaker 1: I just think it also, first off, don't sign him
- 44:38Speaker 1: to that extension would be step one. Right. The buyout
- 44:42Speaker 1: that you signed him to is exorbitant, and it puts
- 44:44Speaker 1: you behind the eight ball, so don't do that to
- 44:46Speaker 1: start with. That was your first mistake. Yep. Second, it's
- 44:49Speaker 1: really hard, even when you're paying guys money, because they
- 44:52Speaker 1: can go get money at other places too, to sell
- 44:55Speaker 1: them on, hey, come play for a coach that's only
- 44:58Speaker 1: here because we can't afford his buyout. Right. In the SEC,
- 45:01Speaker 1: by the way. Enjoy getting your head beat in every
- 45:04Speaker 1: single week with this conference schedule and go play for
- 45:06Speaker 1: a guy who's only here because we can't afford to
- 45:09Speaker 1: tell him to leave.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not a steep
- 45:13Speaker 2: price in college football terms for this. It's not like
- 45:17Speaker 2: the $ 50 million or the $ 70. It's like $ 25 or $ 28.
- 45:20Speaker 1: I think you said $ 32 maybe.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it drops to $ 28. It's a lot
- 45:26Speaker 2: of money, but it's not the check that you have
- 45:31Speaker 2: to write that coaches get now all the time that
- 45:36Speaker 2: you're just like, What? He's getting what to fail? This
- 45:40Speaker 2: is the same deal, but it's not nearly as steep
- 45:42Speaker 2: to my knowledge. And it only goes down by like
- 45:44Speaker 2: $ 2 million after the season.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's actually less than that. It's $ 27. 9 right now
- 45:49Speaker 1: that drops to $ 22 at the end of the season.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 45:52Speaker 1: So, I mean, look, I would save myself $ 5 million.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I totally understand that. He coaches the rest of the
- 45:59Speaker 1: year regardless and has the season to figure it out.
- 46:03Speaker 1: And then at the end of the year, if it
- 46:04Speaker 1: doesn't get any better, then maybe you make the move
- 46:06Speaker 1: and you save yourself $ 5 million in a buyout. But,
- 46:09Speaker 1: I mean, it's a tough spot to be in if
- 46:11Speaker 1: you're just essentially there because the school can't afford your buyout.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 1: And also, I think Shane Beamer now has missed his
- 46:20Speaker 1: window where before he could have left. You know, Virginia
- 46:24Speaker 1: Tech was an option a year ago. He could have
- 46:26Speaker 1: left in a lateral move or go coach an ACC
- 46:30Speaker 1: school or a Big 12 school or whatever. and done
- 46:33Speaker 1: the humanitarian thing and left, and then everybody's happy, and
- 46:37Speaker 1: you don't get the buyout and all that, but you
- 46:39Speaker 1: get to go keep coaching. That window may have passed
- 46:42Speaker 1: for this year.
- 46:42Speaker 2: But that's another reason why the way this is shaping
- 46:46Speaker 2: out is so disappointing, because it's what you want to
- 46:49Speaker 2: see back in college football, a coach who stays, players
- 46:52Speaker 2: who stay. That's exactly what happened at South Carolina. But unfortunately,
- 46:57Speaker 2: it's regression, and... I mean, I don't disagree with the
- 47:01Speaker 2: decision they're ultimately going to make. But I also think, man,
- 47:05Speaker 2: what a missed opportunity for the SEC in college football
- 47:07Speaker 2: just to have that type of vibe back. Actual loyalty.
- 47:14Speaker 2: An actual team. We just didn't, we don't see that anymore.
- 47:18Speaker 2: That's unfortunate. Good luck, by the way. You had the
- 47:23Speaker 2: two losses and now you catch Florida coming off a loss.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Not ideal.
- 47:28Speaker 1: It's been a tough turn every single time for South
- 47:31Speaker 1: Carolina in this early schedule.
- 47:33Speaker 2: How is the spread the same as the Vols and Arkansas?
- 47:37Speaker 2: That's also weird, 13-and-a-half for both games. I would expect
- 47:42Speaker 2: it to be steeper for Florida, just how they played.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Especially at home.
- 47:46Speaker 2: At home.
- 47:48Speaker 1: If Florida's a 13-and-a-half point, I would expect Tennessee to
- 47:50Speaker 1: be more of a 10-point favorite on the road. If
- 47:52Speaker 1: we're looking at the two differences, less than that, but
- 47:55Speaker 1: them both being the same. But Arkansas has really struggled. Offensively,
- 47:59Speaker 1: they couldn't score on Texas A & M on Saturday.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Tennessee has struggled playing there, too. Arkansas has always kind
- 48:08Speaker 2: of been a bugaboo, so to speak.
- 48:11Speaker 1: It's a lot like Byron Brown at Auburn. They've got
- 48:14Speaker 1: a quarterback who sometimes is challenged throwing the ball, but
- 48:17Speaker 1: he's a big lefty who's mobile. And they've got one receiver,
- 48:21Speaker 1: Chris Marshall, who's really good, who's leading defensively. The SEC
- 48:24Speaker 1: in a number of statistical categories, that's their go-to guy.
- 48:27Speaker 1: And he's a big, really good receiver. But they've just not–
- 48:31Speaker 1: they can't run it at all. Arkansas can't with their
- 48:34Speaker 1: running backs. They're going to be challenged against Tennessee's defense.
- 48:38Speaker 1: The hope for Tennessee now is you've got a defense
- 48:40Speaker 1: that travels. That's going to be good and keep you
- 48:43Speaker 1: in every game. But that's a Tennessee defense that should
- 48:45Speaker 1: go in and pretty well shut down. Arkansas' offense. So
- 48:49Speaker 1: if you can get anything from George McIntyre or Faison Brandon,
- 48:53Speaker 1: you should be okay.
- 48:53Speaker 2: You're getting two touchdowns. Yeah. Yeah, I'm with you on that.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Right now I'm leading Bama. Well, that is true. Bama
- 49:03Speaker 2: and they've had success against Kirby Smart recently.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Kalen DeBoer is 2-0.
- 49:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Against Georgia.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. I was thinking the opposite. Yeah, okay. I
- 49:12Speaker 2: feel okay with that right now.
- 49:13Speaker 1: That's Kirby Smart's one bugaboo is Alabama.
- 49:17Speaker 2: That's it. That's the one dragon.
- 49:20Speaker 1: He can't really slay.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Yep. Man, so the Braves. The Braves play a huge factor,
- 49:27Speaker 2: massive factor in a huge parlay. You got the dollar
- 49:32Speaker 2: 20-leg parlay to win $ 82, 000 plus. And the one outstanding...
- 49:39Speaker 2: Part of the parlay after all of this that you
- 49:42Speaker 2: see on the screen, the Atlanta Braves to win the
- 49:45Speaker 2: World Series. Plus $ 1, 100.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Whoever holds this bet at Hard Rock Bet is the
- 49:50Speaker 1: biggest Chris Sale fan on the planet today. As Chris
- 49:54Speaker 1: Sale gets set to go in Game 3 for the Braves,
- 49:56Speaker 1: really wanting to lock down performance from him. Last time
- 49:59Speaker 1: Chris Hill pitched against the Dodgers, we were watching in
- 50:02Speaker 1: our vehicle headed back from Birmingham with Clay, shut them down, 1-0.
- 50:05Speaker 1: I think it was a 1-0 final, and he went
- 50:08Speaker 1: the complete game, nine innings, and completely shut out the Dodgers.
- 50:12Speaker 1: The Braves are hoping for another performance like that. Also,
- 50:15Speaker 1: Kirby Smart, 2-7 against Alabama.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 50:18Speaker 1: For his career, 2-7.
- 50:19Speaker 2: We're watching on tilt to see maybe some props to
- 50:25Speaker 2: play across baseball tonight, maybe some home runs or something.
- 50:28Speaker 2: I like playing the anytime homers. They're fun.
- 50:31Speaker 1: It is.
- 50:32Speaker 2: It's too much fun.
- 50:35Speaker 1: Well, it's also like there's a special feeling when your
- 50:38Speaker 1: guy goes deep, if you're watching. It's different than just
- 50:42Speaker 1: covering a spread and winning a bet. There's a real
- 50:45Speaker 1: sense of accomplishment when you picked a guy for an
- 50:47Speaker 1: anytime homer and he goes deep in that game.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm checking out Hard Rock right now, some
- 50:52Speaker 2: of the props you've got. Well, let me see if
- 50:55Speaker 2: I can find some of the ones for the Braves.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Right now, most of the bets are with L.A. minus
- 51:02Speaker 2: one and a half, which is interesting.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and the Dodgers have Yamamoto going today, which the
- 51:07Speaker 1: Braves are going to struggle with, too. I think it's
- 51:11Speaker 1: a thought that the Dodgers are not going to lose
- 51:13Speaker 1: this series as the two-time defending champion.
- 51:15Speaker 2: You know what? I'm going to take the Braves.
- 51:17Speaker 1: You're going Braves?
- 51:18Speaker 2: Braves winning a lot. Why as well? Why not? Tomorrow,
- 51:22Speaker 2: we've got going for the bundle. Looking forward to that.

- 52:12Speaker 1: everyone else enjoy the Braves tonight. Hopefully they get it
- 52:15Speaker 1: done against the Dodgers.

- 52:19Speaker 1: Not telling anybody where I go to school.
- 52:21Speaker 2: I'm off. I'm about to drive to, and while I'm
- 52:24Speaker 2: doing that, I'll be listening to how campboards improve me
