- 2:35Got Lost Today's adventure starring Lawn Park as Nick Carter. It is early evening
- 2:42and in the back room of a slum district pool room, two men,
- 2:45Stan Powers and Crow Jackson are in the midst of a business conference with Billy
- 2:50Turner, a sixteen year old boy. When hey, Billy, what are
- 2:54you fella? I want Billy? He's busy. I beat it, catch
- 2:59your cat fil We're going home. Maybe you didn't hear what I said.
- 3:02Take it easy, Crow, this guy's my big brother. Huh yeah?
- 3:07How'd you find out about this joint? Roy? I followed you. I
- 3:10promise mom i'd find out where you've been going every night and bring you home.
- 3:14I don't take all its from you. Look, kid, I don't
- 3:16want to get talked. Suppose you do, Roy, Where do you think
- 3:21God will get you? What was that, mister Powers? A threat?
- 3:24Oh? You know me? Huh yeah, I know all about you too,
- 3:29Uh huh. Close the door. Crawl? Okay, Stan, what
- 3:37do you know about me? Roy? You've been in jail a couple of
- 3:39times. Your pool rooms, I hang out for crooks and gangsters and kids.
- 3:45That's going wrong. Listen, Roy, if you're talking about this crawl,
- 3:52this guy goes out. Okay, Stan, look out, Roy,
- 3:59Oh you killed him with this black jack. Relaxed kid, he's just taking
- 4:05a nap. He'll be Okay. You shouldn't have hit him, Crow.
- 4:09He thought he was doing me a favor. I know, Stan, but
- 4:13luckily I thought you wanted a crack at the big time. I do no
- 4:17more than ten horned jobs on little candy stores for me. Okay, that's
- 4:24why I picture to go along with us on this job tonight. Sure,
- 4:27Stan, I know, I know. Then, relaxed kid, have a
- 4:32smoke. Yeah, thanks, Stan. Here, I'll give you a light.
- 4:39Sure. Oh that's Roy. Stan. He's coming to get into the
- 4:46closet, Billy, what in there? I don't want him to say it?
- 4:48Oh sure, sure? Oh what do we do with this guy?
- 4:56Stan? Nothing? We don't knock him on, no Crow, he's got
- 5:01nothing on us. Where's Billy? He went home? Buster? Oh?
- 5:09Yeah, that's right. He didn't want to be around when you came to.
- 5:14He's afraid of his big brother. You kidding me. All you've got
- 5:19to do is go home and check. You don't see him here, do
- 5:23you? Sure? Sure? Go ahead, look around and you can check
- 5:28the pool room on your way out. Help him up, krol A man's
- 5:32going home. Well, why didn't you come to me last night, Roy,
- 5:46instead of waiting until this morning? Well, I didn't think about it.
- 5:49I thought maybe Billy did leave the pool room, and maybe he was
- 5:53stolen someplace, afraid to come home. Because of the beacon Crow gave me,
- 5:57he wouldn't have stayed out all night. Oh I know it. Well,
- 6:00listen, mister Carter, I'm gonna tell you something. Last night,
- 6:04when Billy didn't show up by twelve o'clock, Mom couldn't stand it anymore,
- 6:09so I went out to look for him. I went back to the cay.
- 6:13Oh hello, Patsy, Oh Roy, I'm glad to see you.
- 6:16Oh thanks, Miss Bourne well, it's an excitement last night, wasn't there?
- 6:21What do you mean? A big hold up on Ninth Street, the
- 6:24big supermarket. They got away with seven thousand dollars. As the police goed,
- 6:30Roy as the police what had they found out about Stan Powers? What
- 6:35about him? He was murdered? What's that? That's what I started to
- 6:40tell you, mister Carter. When I went back to the pool room to
- 6:42look for Billy. I went into the back room, mister Powers was on
- 6:46the floor with a knife in his back, with a nie. Well didn't
- 6:51you report that to the police. Well, I was afraid, mister Carter.
- 6:54All I could see in my mind was was Billy mixed up in a
- 6:57killing? The police come about our house to ask a lot of questions.
- 7:01Mom, Broy, do you think Billy did it? No? I know
- 7:04he didn't, at least I don't. All right, all right, then,
- 7:09come on passing. We're going down to stand Power's pool rule. I'm
- 7:13going with you, mister Carr. Oh no, you stay right here,
- 7:15Roy. I'll bring it back a full report as soon as I find out
- 7:16what what the porter found Powers. Nick He came in to clean up about
- 7:31an hour ago, and uh boom, what time was he killed? Maddie
- 7:35Corner said, between eleven and one o'clock last night. Uh huh? Any
- 7:39idea what the motive might have been? Yeah, Patsy, do you think
- 7:42it was a double cross? Oh? We found these slips of paper on
- 7:46the floor, cash register receipt from the Ninth Street supermarket. Right, the
- 7:51job was pulled by Stan Powers and these gang. These receipts prove it.
- 7:56But why should stand Powers have been murdered? Open? Safe? She tell
- 7:59you? Why? Oh? I didn't notice it. Nick. Those crook's
- 8:03got away with seven thousand bucks last night. But they're ain't a nickel in
- 8:07that's safe or on Stan Powers? Now, Nick, somebody on Buddy,
- 8:13one of Stan's gang, probably want of that money and kill Stand to get
- 8:16it right? Right? If I look at the body, they're what you
- 8:18like, Nick, But make it snappy. The boys and the Morgill be
- 8:22here any minute to take it away. American here, Yeah, what's the
- 8:24matter? A good look at the handle of this knife? I want it
- 8:28did the killing I already did. It's a horn handled knife. When there's
- 8:33white powder in some of the hollows, Well, what do you suppose it
- 8:35is? Looks to me like, it's face powder, pussy And you think
- 8:39that a woman? Sure? I do, No, not so fast,
- 8:43Manny, men use powder after shaving. Huh oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 8:46that's right. But look, Nick, I still think this is the
- 8:50kind of powder a woman uses. That it was oneheard him which used that
- 8:54knife? And uh, look here, take a look at this cigarette lighter.
- 9:00What about it? We found it on the floor near Stale's body.
- 9:03M m Billy, ad you say, Nick said? Billy the name engraved
- 9:09on this ladder. I look, Nick, I asked you. Would a
- 9:13mug be seen with a dainty little lighter like this? Well that's a good
- 9:16point, Maddy. So I figure Billy could be a woman's name, William,
- 9:20it could be Nick, as it could be come on, all right
- 9:24with you? Hey, Hey, what's the wash? It's only two hundred
- 9:28and ninety nine days to Christmas? Matter. We've got some shopping to do,
- 9:30well, I be Do you think that cigarette lader belongs to Billy Turner?
- 9:35I'll let you know after I phone Deroy at the office. Okay,
- 9:39there's the phone booth over there. I want to use a phone that's not
- 9:41too close to the scene of this murder. Hello, this is Nick Carter?
- 10:00All right? This is Nick, mister Carter. What'd you find?
- 10:03Roy? Tell me? Did Billy own a cigarette ladder? Yeah? Describe
- 10:07it? Well? It looked like it was made of silver, and it
- 10:11was. It was small and pretty fancy. He left it on the table
- 10:13once in the house. I asked him where he got it? Was his
- 10:16name engraved on it? Yeah? Why, mister Carter? The police found
- 10:20it and Stand's office near Stand's body. What didn't you see it there last
- 10:24night? No? Do you think I'd have left it there? If I
- 10:26did, I saw the guy on the floor dead, So I beat it.
- 10:30Look mister on a cup saying Billy kill stand power? No, no,
- 10:33not yet. They're looking for someone else. I tell me, did
- 10:37Billy own a horn handled jack knife? No? Are you sure? Well?
- 10:41I'd have seen it if he had won? Mister Carter? All right?
- 10:43And what can you tell me about Crow? Well? Not much.
- 10:46He was about my height, five feet eleven. He had black hair and
- 10:50a dirty complexion. You know his real name Stanner or Billy mention it?
- 10:54No, no, they just called him Crow. Okay, I'll talk to
- 10:58you later in the meantime, stay in my office. Goodbye? Well,
- 11:03Nick, the ladder belongs to Billy. All right, that's bad. Yeah,
- 11:07the police of Tracey assured we're standing here and that'll leave them directly to
- 11:09Billy. Nick, are we going to look for Billy too? No?
- 11:13No, right now, I'm more interested in the powder and the handler that
- 11:16night than a guy named Crow. Nick sets out to find a man called
- 11:24Crow and learn the meaning of some white powder on a knife handle. Meanwhile,
- 11:28Matty and the police are tracing a cigarette lighter that will surely leave them
- 11:31for Billy Turner. We'll see what happens next in just a moment. Now
- 11:39back to the case of the Boy who Got Lost Today's adventure with Nick Carter.
- 11:46Nick Carter and Patsy Bowen, faced with the possibility that Billy Turner,
- 11:48a sixteen year old boy, may be implicated in the Knight murder of Stan
- 11:52Power as a gang leader, are trying desperately to run down the identity of
- 11:56Crow, the dead man's lieutenant, and to solve the little white powder on
- 12:01the handle of the murder Niel. In the meantime, in Crow's apartment near
- 12:03the center of town, Billy is having trouble. Just let me call my
- 12:09mom. Crow, I won't tell her where I am this, and kid,
- 12:11I'm doing this for your own good. To get down through your thick
- 12:16head and shut up. But I ain't been home since last night. Mama'll
- 12:18be worried sick. You are a pain in the neck. Maybe I ought
- 12:24to let you go all together, let the cups pick you up. But
- 12:26I didn't kill stand gop kidding will. I forgot my lighter and I went
- 12:31back for it. When I got there, Stan was lying on the floor
- 12:35dead. Sure sho, I didn't kill him, I tell you. I
- 12:37caught you bending over him, didn't I. I told your crow I was
- 12:41looking to see if he was dead. Look, Billy, I'm your pal
- 12:46and you don't have to lie to me. Why should I kill Stan?
- 12:48There's a lot of dough and stands office last night. Maybe you were planning
- 12:54on getting it for yourself. Yeah, nuts, I never went near that
- 12:58safe. It's because I walked in. I didn't have to swipe the dough.
- 13:01We were gonna split that seven thousand bucks in a couple of days.
- 13:03There is more than seven grand in that safe. There was another thirty five
- 13:07hundred. You wanted that too, didn't you? Hey, how do you
- 13:13know how much Stan had in his site? Huh yeah, how come you
- 13:16know all about that? W are you getting that? Kid? You killed
- 13:20Stan? You did it? No, wait a minute, I'm getting out
- 13:22of here. No, you're not going clove your breath. Cup boy.
- 13:26You got a reason for keeping you here, and it ain't because I like
- 13:30you. Why don't you let me go? The cops pick you up.
- 13:31You get stretched for murder and you talk. You're only your kid. You
- 13:35tell the cops about me and the other guys being in on the job at
- 13:39the supermarket. That makes me a four time loser, and I go up
- 13:43for life. No nobody can make me talk. Nobody's gonna get the chance.
- 13:46I protect you, and that way I'm protecting myself. I don't need
- 13:50protection from nobody except you. Are you little how what's the idea You've got
- 13:56to learn to appreciate your pals. Slapping me around ain't gonna change the look
- 14:03I order. I'll answer that, kid, Okay, answer it? Yeah
- 14:11talking, What do you know anything else? Okay? Tell the guys not
- 14:20to worry. They'll never get him. Yeah, yeah, you can take
- 14:26my word for it. That was bad news. Billy. What do you
- 14:31mean your name's in all the newspapers. What are you giving me? Crow?
- 14:35The caps have got your cigarette lighter. They got my lighter. Yeah,
- 14:37they found in this Dan's body. They're looking for the owner. Sheee,
- 14:41they'll say I killed Stan. They can't let him pick you up.
- 14:43And you gotta find another hideout. What am I gonna do? Don't worry,
- 14:50kid, They'll never find you. Never. Oh, Nick, you
- 15:03must have questioned one hundred people trying to find out about that guy Crouw at
- 15:07least one hundred, and nobody admitted he even heard of him. Well,
- 15:11maybe Mad able to tell us he can't have somebody else here a police head
- 15:16quarters, can he? They're on a chance. Oh, never mind here
- 15:20now, I've just been trying to get you, Nick. It's on your
- 15:24mind, Maddy. We traced that cigarette letter. Oh you did? Huh?
- 15:30Yeah, blood, he is here, and we thought bought in a
- 15:33store on the West Side. And at least I'm glad it's bought. You're
- 15:37not gonna like this, Nick, but we've got a warrant out for the
- 15:41arrest of Billy Turner. Sergeant. He's only sixteen, sixteen or sixty murderers,
- 15:46murder pats, Sorry about it. Nick, I found out he's the
- 15:50brother of Roy Turner, one of the kids in your boys club. Oh,
- 15:56and you've been to his home. Yeah, I talked to their mother.
- 15:58Oh that you a woman. Well, I guess you had to know
- 16:02sooner or later. I suppose so. But why would Billy want to kill
- 16:07Sang? All I know is that the safe was opened, and that the
- 16:10seven thousand that gang took from the Supermarketer's goal on it. Maddy, that
- 16:14doesn't if you ask me, Nick, we'll find that the guy who kills
- 16:17Stan and took the dough is Billy Turner. Oh maybe. Oh by the
- 16:22way, Maddie, I found out what that white potter was. Yeah,
- 16:25little chemical analysis reveals that it's common, ordinary flower, the kind you make
- 16:30bread with. Oh your nuts, Nick, Why should there be flower on
- 16:33the handle of that knife? The question I can't answer yet, but that's
- 16:37what it is. Look, don't tell me Billy Turner is a baker as
- 16:40well as a crook. Billy's no crook, even I can see that.
- 16:44Well, I can't say, Maddie, what do you know about a man
- 16:45named crow? Crow? Crow? Who? If I knew that, I'd
- 16:49be on my way to meet him. Look, what's he gonna do with
- 16:52this claim? Remember it stands Gang and Roy Turner's armon stands office last night,
- 16:56Nick, have you been holding out on me? What was by doing
- 17:00that? Trying to get better to go home with him? Cro knocked him
- 17:02out with a black jack, He blocked out Roy. Yeah? Why didn't
- 17:06you tell me this before? Nick? I'll say it does Crow something to
- 17:12you made? Why don't you ask me to remember a guy named Joe might
- 17:18be a lot easier. All right, I've to be saving time by asking
- 17:21you. But now I got to let me get Roy down here for a
- 17:22look at the Rogues gallery. If he saw the guy face to face the
- 17:26order to be able to pick him out. But they'll take I know it.
- 17:30I don't know it. Might say Billy turn her a lot of years.
- 17:33If he happens to be innocent. That's him, mister Carker. This
- 17:45is a picture of Crow. I was just beginning to give up, hope,
- 17:48Roy, you're sure this is Crow? Yeah? Yeah, I know
- 17:51him any place? Well, Man, this character is Philip Jackson alias Jack
- 17:55Phillips alias Crow Jackson, and he's the guy who kills Stan Powers wait him
- 18:00and at Roy, Oh, do you know that well, because he tried
- 18:03to kill me. Isn't that enough? No? You went the Stands place
- 18:07to get Billy, didn't you. You told him, mister Carter, I
- 18:11had to boyd all right, all right, I went there, but Billy
- 18:15wouldn't come home with me. I had an argument with Stan and then and
- 18:18then you went out like a light. Well, Crow came at me from
- 18:22behind. I never had a chance. Maybe you got a motive for killing
- 18:27Stan, Roy Me. Now look here, Maddie, why not Nick?
- 18:32He found out the stand was making a crook out of his kid brother.
- 18:34He couldn't get Billy to quit the gang, so I killed Stand and praying
- 18:37Billy. Is that your logic? Meddie? No, he just didn't notice
- 18:41his kid brother's light up. Ah, you're not. I'll take it easy
- 18:44to take it either. Roy. Listen to Maddie. I want you and
- 18:45his picture of Crow to take a trip with me. Yeah where too,
- 18:48down to the supermarket. I like the man I did to see this picture.
- 18:51Then you may have a reason to go after Crow for armed robbery at
- 18:53least. Okay, okay, but this boy stays here. Is he under
- 18:56arrest? Diget? Yeah, Patsy, But I want to know where he
- 18:59is if I happened to need him. All right, mister, is the
- 19:11man in this picture one of the guys that held up this market last night?
- 19:15Well, I think so, officer, But can't you be sure.
- 19:18I'd be plenty sure, miss if the color of his hair was different colour
- 19:22it's hairy? You mean he wasn't black, it was white. That's sick,
- 19:26Maddie. That's why there was flower on the knife handle. Come again,
- 19:29he didn't have a knife, he had a gun. And we're talking
- 19:30about another crime. Mister Johnson, thanks very much have been of great help,
- 19:33can I I don't understand if we get held. All we've got to
- 19:37do now is to get Crow Jackson or whatever other name he might be using
- 19:41this week. And Nick, what's this about? You know why there was
- 19:45flower on the handle of that knife, Maddie. Flower is much better than
- 19:48paste butter for making black hair look white. It's fixed better by sure Crow
- 19:52used it after the skull. Well, all right, and that's going to
- 19:53land him in the hot seat if we ever find him. Maddie, don't
- 19:56know whether to look for him now. Look, Nick, I don't already
- 20:00every crook's address around in my notebook. Maybe not, but the probation department
- 20:03does. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 20:04I was just going for yeah, yeah, yeah, that's his favorite matter.
- 20:07You are red Crow for robbery, and I'll see that he's convicted for
- 20:11murder. Seems as though Crow is playing hard to get me. I was
- 20:26only a door and we've got to wark. Come on, Mattie, we
- 20:29need muscles. Yeah, okay, let's go. Heybody here, we should
- 20:38have known that a guy with a murder rap staring him in the face would
- 20:41lay him out of his that's the same I want to Nick, I'll get
- 20:45out of general. Wait a minute, I want to look around. What
- 20:48what? You never can tell that you're fine? Okay, okay, but
- 20:51if you think I wait a minute. Wait. Look two people were in
- 20:53this room and they left him a few minutes before we got here. Brother,
- 20:56I've seen you pull some rabbits out of a hat, but now you're
- 20:59trying. Look, I'm calling headquarters. I look at that cigarette and the
- 21:03astro. Huh why it's still smooth? Okay? Okay, Nick, how
- 21:07do you figure there were two people here because there are two different brands of
- 21:10cigarettes and the ashtray? Yeah yeah, Billy turned to smoke one of them.
- 21:14Oh but Nick, you don't know what Brian Billy smokes. I have
- 21:17to know that. What do you mean? Look here at the underside of
- 21:21there's half smoked cigarette. Why somebody wrote silly on it and pencil and it
- 21:26was Billy who was here with Krow looks that way. Hey, wait a
- 21:30minute minute, I know what this is here on the table. Crowe probably
- 21:36left his forwarding address. No he didn't, But somebody left this drawing.
- 21:40Here's a funny kind of drawing. If you ask me, it's doodling if
- 21:44you ask me, yeah, yeah, I look at this odd shaped figure
- 21:47here, Maddie and this thing inside it. Think somebody's idea of a tree.
- 21:52And look at the other figure in a circle with a swirl inside.
- 21:56Maybe that odd shaped figure could be a tree an island, of course,
- 22:03maybe this is a message. Knots this drawing the one you call doodling.
- 22:07We'll never win an out cast. No, but it tells me exactly where
- 22:10a Crow and Billy went. I'm tired, Crow, I gotta rest for
- 22:29a minute, he Brow, and kid, you'll have plenty of time to
- 22:33rest later. You think the cops got your apartment by now, if your
- 22:37wise guy brother told him about me, they have I should have knocked him
- 22:41off. He was only trying to help me. Crow, give me more
- 22:45with the left door, kid, huh, the left door pretty dark.
- 22:49But we're heading for the island. The way we're going that way, we're
- 22:52making a detour, Billy. If I do like you say, we'll head
- 22:56right into the whirlpool. You catch on, kid, and that's where you
- 23:02get off. Oh, you ain't planning a rass, right, kid.
- 23:07The cops will find you're floating around in a couple of days and they'll close
- 23:11the book and say you couldn't face a murder rap. I knew you were
- 23:17dirty, Crow, but my head, kid and row, I'll tell you
- 23:21when they jump, you'll tell me nothing, white guy. If I drown,
- 23:23you'll drown with me. I got the ords, see, and I
- 23:29got this black jack kid, Billy, why you lousy? Dark night?
- 23:33And we're out here in the middle of the channel. Nobody can see it,
- 23:37so it looks like you go overboard. When I say THO, get
- 23:41it, Billy turned her heads toward death of the channel, and no wonder
- 23:52whom he can call for help. It's within hearing distis we'll see what happens
- 23:55next in just a minute. Now for the conclusion of the case of the
- 24:03Boy who got lost Today's adventure with Nick Carter. It is a few minutes
- 24:08later and Nick, Patsy and Matty are in a boat of police launch heading
- 24:11toward the island, their eyes fixed on the water, which is lighted by
- 24:15the boat starts light If that starts like fulling, Mattie, you must be
- 24:19here somewhere. There's the island of ahead, Nick, But I don't see
- 24:23them. There must have used a motor boat. Have to be a past
- 24:26one, Patsy. They couldn't have been more than a few minutes ahead of
- 24:29us. Hey, you be sure this is the right place, Nick.
- 24:33You know of any other whirlpool around here? Well? No, but there
- 24:36could be one. Maybe you know of any other island shaped like a drawing
- 24:40Billy left? Well no, no, I don't make but that doesn't lean
- 24:42the right one. Or you pet the island and the whirlpool together. You
- 24:45have to admit their Okay, okay, you where you win? This must
- 24:51be the place. Come on, come on, Mattie, can't you get
- 24:52a little more life into this cup? Look she's riding at top speed.
- 24:56Now, Nick, after all, she ain't it Hey, Clara, we'll
- 25:02find out. Yeah, sure, Kick, that must be done there in
- 25:07that rowboat. Yeah there two minutes and they're fighting fitted up Many that rowboat
- 25:11moving toward the loo. I'll fight this kickself fighting a lot of him.
- 25:17Got a gun, I need a hit. Oh, so he wants to
- 25:21play. That's what it looks like. He did take the wheel. This
- 25:23is a game cooking play. I got it. Many, Joy's a lousy
- 25:27shut the church light and design. Allow'll give this cookie a lesson and how
- 25:33to shoot you ahead of me? So shooting Many, and I hope he's
- 25:37alive when we got our hands on him. The idea of Crow taking Billy
- 25:51out of ground him in the whirl pools what some people won't do for an
- 25:55alibi. Yeah, Paul, they're all wasted motion. After Crow gets out
- 26:00the hospital is going to stand trial for murder, and after that he'll never
- 26:03need money again. That ten thousand dollars the police found stuff in his pocket
- 26:07should be enough to convict him. Yeah, and the flower particles we found
- 26:11on the inside of his coat and on his shirt collar. Right, Oh,
- 26:17what do you think will happen to Billy. Well, he admitted taking
- 26:19part in the supermarket hold up and a few others. Great Billy is going
- 26:23away for a while. It's a shame to a sixteen year old kid.
- 26:27I'll bet you haven't got an idea that Billy won't be going too long.
- 26:32And when he comes back, he's going to feel the way his brother Roy
- 26:34does about what's right and what's wrong. I hope. So you wait and
- 26:37see, we'll have him in the boys club yet, Nick, what about
- 26:52next week's benk Just a minute, Michael, I want to ask you a
- 26:53question. When are we going to announce the winners of the new nineteen forty
- 26:57eight forty? Then come back to me. One of the oddest things about
- 27:03these stories, particularly a Nick Carter when encouraging the kids to, you know,
- 27:12stick to a lawful life avoid crime, is that there's this episode where
- 27:21Nick is kind of playing fast and loose with the police and letting Maddie run
- 27:26down all these blond alleys. I am a little disappointed we didn't find out
- 27:30who won that new Ford, but that's what happens when we're dealing with so
- 27:34many old time radio recordings that are missing portions. So thankfully we do have
- 27:40the whole plot there. And I should mention that we did have yet another
- 27:44lost episode between last week's show and this week's in this case it was the
- 27:48case of the Quong Lead Dagger. Well, I will go ahead and cover
- 27:55our last major rewards level, and that's at the third five dollars level,
- 28:00and that's Chief of Detectives, So you get all the benefits of being the
- 28:06Master Detective level. Plus you'll receive paper backcopies of all currently published books that
- 28:14I've written and a free signed copy of all future books. Also, you'll
- 28:18have the option of recording an ad for your family friendly business or website that
- 28:25will air after my commentary on an episode of The Great Detectives of Old Time
- 28:29Radio, and you can repeat that every twelve months, and optionally, you

- 28:41won every six months, and a full list of available thank you gifts and
