Hey, everyone, this is your girl SC Bookyard eight four three, and I am here with my special guest. It's my daughter, y'all. Why she gotta look at me like that? This is my nine year old daughter, Naya Elizabeth, And now you tell her, boy, Hi, you wanna tell them about yourself. My name is a Naya and my last name is girl Hold and then nine years old and my favorite colors and spaghettios. Yes, this is spaghetti, you guys. This girl love her some spaghetti. So tonight I told you guys, I was gonna do a little special Moments show, and I'm gonna have this girl right here critique some books. Now, she's not a reviewer reviewer like her mommy, So we're just going to talk about some books that I've received. When I went to the public library Association conference, and she's going to tell us if she's going to read them and not read them. And then I'm going to talk to you about some middle grade books that are coming out. And I'm also going to read the story one of our Stavord stories. So when she was little. And remember we can't tell them, okay, all right, So my son and my daughter, you would think, why in the world would they be able to enjoy the same books. Well, that is true. This series has been out since my son was her age. Now she enjoys them. Now, all these books that I've had, she has never read. So she's gonna I don't think you have read this one. Yes, you read this, Okay, well then you can tell you excuse me, she read and she was in second grade. So here's our first book. It's called Mister Burke Is Berserk. So you tell me if you like this one. Mm hmm, think about it. I'll talk about it for about it minute to two. This is a part of the Weird School series. The Weird School series is a serious that is about well, I need to read because I've read some man. Okay, she wants to read the back you guys, go ahead, mister roots, cuts the grass and trims bussiness and does landscape around elementary school. He wants to have a corn maze on a baseball diamond h and drag races with his writing mower. Something's wrong with them? What's up with crops? So this is one of the weird school series. This is a series of comedy. If you have a child that loves books, that makes them laugh and they're always trying to figure out what the devil was about to happen next this series. Yeah, it was funny. Do you enjoy it? I like the one whenever they talked about oreos. Oh that was Miss Dole is out of control. There is you, guys, about forty books in this series, so there is no way your child can get through it. And there's two graphic novel books. There are two graphic novel books. They're all based about a third grade classroom. The main kid's name is a Rotto into his his his name, his name and what they call him in classes at mm hmm. But that when he starts the books off, he always starts off in his And now this is also great for kids who are what we call reluctant readers. They still need to have those pictures, but it still gives them the feel of a big ship book because you do have some chapters that do not have pictures. Okay, So mister Burke is dessert. And whoever made this book, I said, they had a great idea because there was this one book and it had only like because I always read like three chapters a day, and those three chapters was short. And they were talking about they were talking about how I was a fast reader, and that's all they said. And then I give it you, my mama, and she thought, why did I be too fast to read the chapters? That's another thing. Another thing great for kids who are reluctant readers is a fast paced novel or novels that have shorter chapters, because it gives them a sense of achievement. So that's another great thing about this book. So go to your library. Oh god, my my camera's bad, and mister Burke is berserk. I read that one like you read the Sideways. Also. It wasn't good. It wasn't bad. It was your sideways that way. Okay. So here is one that I got from the public library conference. And this actually is a book for my nephews. I have three nephews there. They are twelve, ten and six. Well seven, yeah, seven, because Raley's birthday is tomorrow, Happy birthday, rally. Well you never know, he catched it. We pleased, y'all. See what I have to deal with? This is Oh my god. This one is called Rumble in the Jungle and it's Muhammad Ali versus George form me. Now, we do have a lot of this versus this books, and a lot of them are animals versus other animals. But now they're starting to do biographies where there are two people that are very similar in a sport and activity event. Somehow, this is great. Love it, love it, love it you guys. It's a graphic novel. Graphic novel. Yeah, my daughter loves graphic novel and I have no problem with it. At one point in time, I was very much against her reading graphic novels. Why because I felt like she wasn't actually reading the book. But it is a form of visual learteracy. Okay, So even though they're looking at the paid the pictures in the book, they are also formating a story in their mind, which is also help with the reading goal. So we'll do another one. So if you saw this book on the library shelf, this one right here. Would you read it? No? I don't like seeing the shirt. Okay, if we don't talk about the men with the shirt off and we're talking about Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. Would you read the book or is this more of a boy book? It's more of a boy book rather, Ni Mindje and Ice Spice going to get each other? Y'all? Did she just say Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. I'm through. I am totally through. Okay, you know we just gonna put this book now. I was not you guys had to not see that one coming. Okay, my child, So this one as cool as it gets. This is another one that I got from P l A. And this is the one that she was going for. Would you read this one? Yes? And why I love I love reading those type of books because my second grade teacher would always read it to us and it was kind of really special to us because they had a lot of different books. And my favorite one of these, if you ever heard of these, it would be smart as a cookie. There you go. So this is a great one and it's just for your elementary kids. There's an omen Yeah, he is an omen If this one, I would say, as long as it's along the line of Christmas. But for us, we don't care. If it's a good book, it's a good book. We're going to read it all year wrong, okay, So it's cool to get a great one. So we're giving us up a down or sideway all the way up, all the way up, you guys. So it's going to take me do the middle grades and this book right here. Yeah, she's not in middle school yet. But these two books are two ones that I know a Naya would love to read. Okay. I do get books that she can grow into or even to the point where I would read the books to her, and it's a kind of like a bonding time with us. You know, you don't want to read that one. I do bring home several books because as you can see, she is very much choosy in what she reads. And that's great, you guys. The book is for them, it is not for you. So if it takes ten to fifteen minutes for them to find a book, just think of all the benefits they are getting from finding the book that they love. So we choose between these. There are the two books you guys, welcome to Washington and see on them on they says, and love puppies, best friends forever. That's like saying super Color Roger, Oh my god, which one do you choose? And why do you choose this one? So cute? Dog is so cute. Okay, you guys are gonna take a break and we're gonna come back and we're gonna do our story time. So if you have any little people in your house, please go grab them because we're gonna read this book. It's called the Monster at the end of the book. So we're gonna take a break and you guys come back and join me and my little person as we read the book together. Aspiring Author's Magazine is a founding sponsor for doc cru podcast. And this is good because there's a monster at the end of the book. So so don't don't turn the page? Should I? Should I turn the page? I think? Okay, oh my god, you're the one who did it. M what you told me to turn it? So you won't listen to a nine year old But you told me to turn the page. Oh okay, okay, okay, maybe you don't understand. You see, turning the pages will bring us to the end of the book, and there is a monster at the end of the book. But you know what, this will stop you from turning the pages to see I'm tying the pages together and you cannot. You don't not the page? Do you not know what you're doing to me? Non stop turning pages? I don't know what I'm doing to you, the very guy? I mean. Should we turn to small pages? No, it's a little but I really want to know what's gonna happen. Turn the page. You're gonna turn turn pitch? Yes, okay, okay, there I am rover and I am nailing this page the next one, So that you will not be able to turn it, and we will not get any closer to the monster at the end of the book. I think I can pull this page apart. I don't. I don't think he nailed it strong enough. What do you think I'm gonna flip the page? I know, but I'm kind of I really want to see. Okay, I'm gonna flip the page. The page, all right, all right, all right? Do you not know that every time you turn another page, we get closer to the monster at the end of the book. I mean, look at this terrible mess that you made. Yeah, he did it. I just turned the pages. I mean, hey, okay, okay, oh boah, oh, this will stop you from turning pages. Pretty thick, solid, strong brick wall, and I will just like to see you try to turn the page. Okay, let's try it together. One, two, three? Did you know we're pretty strong? We did that? Ho whoa? Well, naya h whoa. The next page is the end of the book, and that's a monster at the end of the book. We kept on, we kept turning the pages. Now we're at the end. We're going Now you have done away. I don't want to run a wait, I mean the page. Well, let's see what he said. She says, the next page is the end of the book, and there's a monster at the end of the book. And I'm so scared, so please do not turn the pillage. Please please please, I'm scared too. Should we turn the page? You can't leave me. I'm holding the boocket. You want to run? Okay, Okay, Pinky, we'll do it together. Okay, let's do that. Pay what we're doing? Tom? Okay, Thom? All right, we're going to count the three? Okay you ready?
