- 0:02Speaker 2: You get people in there to buy them.
- 0:03Speaker 3: I can finally look at new movies.
- 0:05Speaker 4: He spends a ridiculous amount of time and money at
- 0:07Speaker 4: Big Lots, so it would seem.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I mention Netflix probably every other week.
- 0:11Speaker 4: That's true. I mention Netflix every week.
- 0:13Speaker 5: Apparently, it just occurred to me, I'm turned into Steve
- 0:17Speaker 5: Zahn's publicist.
- 0:18Speaker 6: It comes up somehow every week.
- 0:21Speaker 4: Every week, it's something.
- 0:23Speaker 2: That keeps coming up.

- 0:59Speaker 6: Our nuclear reactor, pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Yes, it's coffee time. Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee. Cappuccino.
- 1:40Speaker 10: Cappuccino.
- 1:53Speaker 8: Way down among Brazilians, coffee beans grow by the billions,
- 1:58Speaker 8: so they've got to find those.
- 1:59Speaker 7: Extra cups to fill.
- 2:02Speaker 4: They got an awful.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Lot of coffee in Brazil.
- 2:07Speaker 4: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I'm Greg.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I'm Fred.
- 2:11Speaker 4: And today we have with us a special guest, someone
- 2:14Speaker 4: I've been trying to scam into doing this for quite
- 2:16Speaker 4: a while now, and today's the first time he had
- 2:18Speaker 4: nothing better to do, I suppose. We can welcome Matt
- 2:21Speaker 4: to the show.
- 2:22Speaker 11: Hello.
- 2:24Speaker 4: You don't want to go by any of their special
- 2:26Speaker 4: street names.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Matt works. Okay.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Matt works.
- 2:28Speaker 3: The guy that works with Brian.
- 2:30Speaker 4: They don't know that. On this show, this is my job.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Brian's a professional podcaster, right?
- 2:36Speaker 4: Movie talkerer. So, yes, it is time once again for
- 2:42Speaker 4: another episode of the Caffeinated Movie Geek.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Cappuccino on my butt. I still drink coffee.
- 2:48Speaker 2: The last fucking thing you need is another cup of coffee.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It's time for Decaffeinated Movie Geek.
- 2:55Speaker 4: We're coming to you live via digital recording from Nancy's
- 2:58Speaker 4: Bagel Grounds. And we'll get together, drink coffee, talk movies,
- 3:02Speaker 4: and probably offend some people. So, once again, our friends
- 3:05Speaker 4: at Columbia River Coffee have provided this coffee. And, Greg,
- 3:10Speaker 4: since Marlena's not here, I said before, you've become the fallback.
- 3:14Speaker 4: You're like the bench version of our spokesmodel. So, Greg,
- 3:18Speaker 4: I ask you, what blend of coffee are we drinking
- 3:21Speaker 4: this week?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Fishers and Fallers. Ah, I see.
- 3:24Speaker 4: And this is a new one for you.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And delicious.
- 3:26Speaker 3: It is. It is quite good.
- 3:28Speaker 4: All right, so with that... I was doing hand motions
- 3:32Speaker 4: when I introduced... I would hope so, as any good
- 3:34Speaker 4: spokesmodel should do.
- 3:36Speaker 5: I still do hand motions.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Those aren't hand motions. That's just an inappropriate movement with
- 3:42Speaker 4: your hand. Please stop that.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Good thing it's all mint.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I just thought people would want to know.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yeah, it wasn't meant to be an all-men podcast this week.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Marlena was going to be here and had to work,
- 3:53Speaker 4: and I actually only threw the invite out to three people.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Matt showed up. The other two were both women, actually,
- 3:59Speaker 4: and they just obviously had better things to do.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Glad I was high on your list, but hey, I'll
- 4:05Speaker 3: take it.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Out of all of the world, there were only three
- 4:08Speaker 4: people I asked. Now think about that.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I accept it.
- 4:14Speaker 6: Are we going, since it's all males, are we going
- 4:15Speaker 6: to review truck stop women today?
- 4:17Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 4:18Speaker 3: He's still making hand motions.
- 4:20Speaker 1: His hands are under the table.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I think he just finished watching truck stop. Really, I
- 4:24Speaker 4: don't think it would matter. Have you been around the
- 4:26Speaker 4: women on our show?
- 4:28Speaker 7: You're right.
- 4:28Speaker 1: They probably enjoy that.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Usually the ones that are more offensive and more misogynist
- 4:33Speaker 4: are the women on our show.
- 4:34Speaker 3: You're right.
- 4:35Speaker 4: So, yeah, I really don't think we have to dial
- 4:38Speaker 4: it back anything, regardless of whether they're here.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Wasn't Marlena the one that said that the prostitute that
- 4:44Speaker 6: got beat up by the ShamWow guy deserved it?
- 4:47Speaker 4: She was asking for it.
- 4:48Speaker 1: She was asking for it, so yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 4: That's just one of many lovely, lovely things we've said
- 4:53Speaker 4: on our show. It's our crew. You've got to love them.
- 4:58Speaker 4: So with that, we will roll on into this week's
- 5:00Speaker 4: geek activities, I suppose. For mine, I watched one this morning.
- 5:07Speaker 4: And again, trying to upload the last episode because the
- 5:10Speaker 4: internet was fighting me. I don't know what it was doing,
- 5:13Speaker 4: but it took like an extra day just to finish
- 5:17Speaker 4: getting all our rambling pieced into one thing. And then
- 5:19Speaker 4: get it uploaded. So while I was doing that, I
- 5:21Speaker 4: was trying to find something useful to watch. And I
- 5:24Speaker 4: came across one that seemed like it wouldn't involve too
- 5:26Speaker 4: much thought. And if anything, Greg, you'll probably think I'm
- 5:30Speaker 4: doing research. It was entitled, The 50 Worst Movies Ever Made.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Ah, I've seen this.
- 5:38Speaker 4: On our ever-plugged Netflix?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yes, I've seen this one.
- 5:42Speaker 4: I was just scrolling past, and I was like, ah.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Damn it.
- 5:45Speaker 4: All right.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I don't agree with the list, but.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I was like,
- 5:48Speaker 4: you know, actually.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Again, it's one of those like that... I've never thought
- 5:54Speaker 4: you could pin that kind of stuff down. You know,
- 5:57Speaker 4: it's like.
- 5:59Speaker 4: What you think is bad is not the same thing
- 6:01Speaker 4: what other people are going to think is bad. What
- 6:04Speaker 4: a lot of people think is bad is usually what
- 6:06Speaker 4: I go looking for in a movie. Or sometimes there's
- 6:10Speaker 4: an entirely separate list that that will be placed very
- 6:13Speaker 4: high on. So, yeah, I disagree with... A lot of
- 6:17Speaker 4: them are very expected. I mean, Ed Wood's on there
- 6:20Speaker 4: at least three times. I mean, like, well, big surprise.
- 6:23Speaker 4: And to me, that's an entirely different category of, like,
- 6:25Speaker 4: awesome and bad.
- 6:27Speaker 3: But, yeah, this.
- 6:29Speaker 4: So it's interesting, I guess... It's not really a documentary
- 6:34Speaker 4: as much as it is a list that they read.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:37Speaker 4: And they show clips from sometimes more lengthy than others.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Sometimes it's like a good, you know, five minutes on
- 6:43Speaker 4: this movie. Other times it's like 38 seconds, and they're like, all.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Right, next.
- 6:48Speaker 4: So, yeah, it's all right. I won't say it's great.
- 6:53Speaker 4: It's pretty low budget, I'd say, because there's just voiceover
- 6:56Speaker 4: and scenes. It's done almost VH1 style list, only without
- 7:01Speaker 4: all the personality. Right. It's just a guy reading some
- 7:05Speaker 4: names and making a few snide comments.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And canned clapping and canned laughter.
- 7:10Speaker 4: And throwing food at the screen, which is funny the
- 7:13Speaker 4: first time, but by the 50th time, you're kind of
- 7:16Speaker 4: over it.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I know there are.
- 7:18Speaker 6: At least 10 Mystery Science Theater movies that should have
- 7:21Speaker 6: made that list. You know, things like Howard the Duck.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Granted, it's not a great movie.
- 7:27Speaker 6: But it shouldn't be, I think it was like number
- 7:32Speaker 6: eight or somewhere in there.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I thought it was pretty low on the list.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Or was it?
- 7:35Speaker 4: Okay, maybe I'm wrong.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'm quite fond of Power of the Duck, actually.
- 7:41Speaker 4: I was until we went back and re-watched it for
- 7:42Speaker 4: the show.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I haven't seen it since USA's up all night. But
- 7:47Speaker 3: back then it held my attention.
- 7:49Speaker 4: For many a times, I guess.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I've watched it more than once.
- 7:52Speaker 4: That was the thing. I loved that movie to death
- 7:54Speaker 4: when I was a kid, and I had not watched
- 7:56Speaker 4: it in years until we went back and did our
- 7:58Speaker 4: whole episode on it. And I went, wow, you know
- 8:01Speaker 4: what everybody said about this movie? They were kind of right.
- 8:04Speaker 4: It's got its moments that I still enjoy, Leah Thompson,
- 8:07Speaker 4: but so much of it is still just really bad,
- 8:10Speaker 4: like they've said for years now.
- 8:12Speaker 1: So what are you going to do?
- 8:14Speaker 5: I've heard some discussions of just what was the worst
- 8:17Speaker 5: movie ever made.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 8:19Speaker 5: I wonder if those would come up. Like, Myra Breckenridge
- 8:22Speaker 5: was one theory of the worst. It's based on a
- 8:26Speaker 5: Gore Vidal book. Raquel Welch gets a sex change operation
- 8:31Speaker 5: and a sex change operation back.
- 8:34Speaker 2: But I don't know about the worst movie ever made, but.
- 8:39Speaker 5: Gore Vidal said it was the first case where A
- 8:42Speaker 5: movie was based on a book, and after the movie came.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Out, sales of the book stopped.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Wow.
- 8:50Speaker 2: He said he never saw another residual after the movie
- 8:53Speaker 2: came out. Wow.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Nice work.
- 8:55Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Once you've seen Raquel Welch, there's no reason to.
- 8:58Speaker 13: Right.
- 8:58Speaker 1: At least you've got Raquel Welch.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Your imagination's not going to be better than that.
- 9:01Speaker 1: There's so many.
- 9:02Speaker 6: To me, there were so many on that list that
- 9:06Speaker 6: I had not heard of and thought.
- 9:10Speaker 1: That looks great, in my mind.
- 9:12Speaker 6: I was like, there's that level of it's so bad,
- 9:15Speaker 6: I guess that bell curve, that it has to be good.
- 9:18Speaker 6: And so, well, like Ed Wood, there are so many
- 9:21Speaker 6: people that can sit down and appreciate an Ed Wood movie.
- 9:23Speaker 4: As well you should.
- 9:24Speaker 6: And have a great time. And no, it should not
- 9:27Speaker 6: be on that list, according to those qualifications.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Whereas.
- 9:31Speaker 4: According to our qualifications.
- 9:32Speaker 1: According to our qualifications. But, you know, there are several.
- 9:36Speaker 6: mainstream big movies that i couldn't sit through yeah so smoking.
- 9:41Speaker 5: A movie has to be good enough to be like
- 9:43Speaker 5: really bad you.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Have to like be involved enough to if it's just
- 9:48Speaker 2: like really bad then it doesn't.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Even rank it's mediocre it doesn't count that was the
- 9:56Speaker 4: sad part I was going through going oh maybe there
- 10:00Speaker 4: will be a lot of them I haven't heard no
- 10:02Speaker 4: I was going through out of 50 and I was
- 10:05Speaker 4: like I'm not claiming I've seen them all I've seen
- 10:08Speaker 4: a good amount a lot of them were the 80s
- 10:10Speaker 4: ones I have to say but yeah there was there
- 10:14Speaker 4: were maybe two or three that I hadn't heard of
- 10:17Speaker 4: right But the really scary part is I wrote those down.
- 10:21Speaker 4: So live in fear because you know they're going on
- 10:23Speaker 4: the list now.
- 10:25Speaker 7: Right.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Is Smokey and the Bandit on the list?
- 10:28Speaker 8: That's a movie I recently watched where, well, actually I
- 10:31Speaker 8: started to watch three.
- 10:33Speaker 3: It was like Burt Reynolds and Sally, is it Struthers?
- 10:36Speaker 5: No.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Fields.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Sally Fields.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Sally Fields.
- 10:39Speaker 8: Which is why number one's a good movie because she's adorable.
- 10:43Speaker 4: In that too. You don't get that in the third one,
- 10:46Speaker 4: which the third one was actually on the list.
- 10:48Speaker 14: Was it?
- 10:49Speaker 3: The second one with the elephant could make the list
- 10:51Speaker 3: as well.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Is there some movie going around now that's like one
- 10:55Speaker 2: of the worst movies? Gnomes? Is it Gnomes?
- 10:59Speaker 1: No, it's Troll 2.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Troll 2.
- 11:01Speaker 4: It's the worst movie. Yeah, Troll 2. Yeah, and it's
- 11:05Speaker 4: pretty epic in its ridiculousness.
- 11:08Speaker 6: When people go out and see it in late night
- 11:11Speaker 6: theaters and fill the auditorium, You cannot put it in.
- 11:14Speaker 4: As the worst movie of all time. Well, what's weird
- 11:17Speaker 4: is that it wasn't even on that list.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Right.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Troll was.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Which Troll was like nothing compared to Troll 2, but
- 11:25Speaker 4: Troll was on there at the bottom of the list.
- 11:28Speaker 4: I was like, there's a lot of worse movies than Troll.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Troll's just a bad horror movie.
- 11:33Speaker 5: I think sometimes it's the setup for expectation. For me, Godfather.
- 11:37Speaker 2: 3... Right.
- 11:39Speaker 3: I'm with you there.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Godfather 3.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I am with you.
- 11:41Speaker 4: You got the one-two punch of one and two.
- 11:44Speaker 5: I'm still waiting for somebody to say, we're going to
- 11:47Speaker 5: make Godfather 3 like that never happened.
- 11:50Speaker 4: We need a reboot.
- 11:51Speaker 6: Well, then does it qualify as the most disappointing? Is
- 11:56Speaker 6: that what makes it that?
- 11:57Speaker 5: Yeah, because if a movie is just really terrible from
- 12:02Speaker 5: the beginning, I'm probably not going to even see the
- 12:05Speaker 5: rest of it.
- 12:06Speaker 2: It's just let's not just change the channel or something.
- 12:10Speaker 6: Phantom Menace I would put on that list the biggest
- 12:13Speaker 6: disappointment that just that took my childhood and beat it.
- 12:18Speaker 4: And there was so much build up like even if
- 12:21Speaker 4: It would just come out of nowhere. You'd be like,
- 12:23Speaker 4: if there would have been like a weekend of, wow,
- 12:25Speaker 4: this new movie, let's go see it. But it was
- 12:27Speaker 4: how many years of, okay, he's working on it. Okay,
- 12:30Speaker 4: he's probably going to make it. And then like when
- 12:32Speaker 4: people were paying multiple ticket prices to go see that
- 12:35Speaker 4: trailer when it opened. I mean, that's how you know
- 12:38Speaker 4: the anticipation was kind of out of hand at that point.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Well, that they could make a movie about a kid
- 12:44Speaker 6: dying of cancer and his– drive across the country to
- 12:50Speaker 6: go see it, to see the release of it. That
- 12:52Speaker 6: shows you how big of it, and that's how big
- 12:54Speaker 6: it was. I would have, you know, as a young
- 12:58Speaker 6: person before that came out, I would have, yeah, if
- 13:01Speaker 6: I knew that I was dying, I would have found it,
- 13:04Speaker 6: and then I would have found a way to stay alive.
- 13:07Speaker 4: To beat him. Beat him with a stuffed Jar Jar.
- 13:12Speaker 5: My last wish is that somebody go kick this guy's
- 13:16Speaker 5: ass for me.
- 13:17Speaker 13: The make-a-wish make-a-wish foundation just getting like a couple of
- 13:24Speaker 13: pro wrestlers to volunteer.
- 13:25Speaker 4: I'll do it okay i'll take that that's awesome.
- 13:31Speaker 6: I'm gonna get a turn on let's just i want
- 13:35Speaker 6: you to.
- 13:35Speaker 5: Kick his ass then i want you to reenact kicking
- 13:38Speaker 5: his ass one of my favorite king of the hill
- 13:41Speaker 5: lines I'm going to kick your ass and then I'm
- 13:44Speaker 5: going to reenact kicking your.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Ass.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Nice. I think the best thing that's come out of
- 13:51Speaker 4: this little quote unquote documentary is the fact that I
- 13:54Speaker 4: think that needs to be a future grind topic. What's
- 13:58Speaker 4: the worst movie? And then just spin an episode. Everybody
- 14:01Speaker 4: bring their own list. Everybody bring their own. We can
- 14:03Speaker 4: have people write in. We can come up with just
- 14:06Speaker 4: criteria of what makes it in there or what falls
- 14:09Speaker 4: into different categories. So yeah, I think that's We're throwing
- 14:12Speaker 4: that on the list.
- 14:12Speaker 3: That's what I think.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it's kind of worth a watch. I think the
- 14:17Speaker 4: best thing about it is it's only an hour long,
- 14:18Speaker 4: so you don't invest any more than that. You might
- 14:22Speaker 4: see one or two you haven't seen before.
- 14:24Speaker 6: The one that I still haven't seen that's on that list,
- 14:26Speaker 6: and I think you've even done a promo for it
- 14:28Speaker 6: on this show, is the thing with the two heads.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. That looks like one of the best... bad
- 14:34Speaker 1: movies i've ever.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Seen yeah i mean how can you think that's bad
- 14:38Speaker 4: like a regular bad movie i mean these two guys
- 14:41Speaker 4: are jammed next to each other pretending they're in one
- 14:45Speaker 4: of just the the special effect alone is enough to
- 14:48Speaker 4: watch it for an hour and a half and it's.
- 14:49Speaker 6: It's literally like a shirt with the guy standing behind
- 14:53Speaker 6: him shoving his head through and it wasn't like a
- 14:56Speaker 6: gangster it's like a white dude.
- 14:58Speaker 4: It's a it's a racist little white dude and like
- 15:01Speaker 4: a young black guy and then he grabs his head
- 15:04Speaker 4: onto the side of his head and yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 15: That's a classic yeah yeah they put that as in
- 15:09Speaker 15: the top it was in the top 10 it was
- 15:11Speaker 15: yeah i think it's top five yeah it was way
- 15:14Speaker 15: up there i'm like i don't know this i mean
- 15:16Speaker 15: who doesn't want to see this come on so yeah
- 15:19Speaker 15: it's it's a little be.
- 15:20Speaker 2: A sitcom it's a great setup it.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Should Ed Asner and Michael Clark Duncan.
- 15:29Speaker 4: I'd watch that every week. Tebow, that shit. Alright, so yeah.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Moving on. I was thinking the only other thing that
- 15:39Speaker 4: seems like I've watched lately that I haven't talked about.
- 15:41Speaker 4: I did go back and watch Bitch Slap. Yeah, which
- 15:45Speaker 4: if you're yeah, if you're a longtime listener, you'll know
- 15:48Speaker 4: we didn't. Well, I did an entire show about it,
- 15:51Speaker 4: but not like a discussing the movie. I did an
- 15:53Speaker 4: interview segment with two out of three of the main stars.
- 15:57Speaker 4: And that gets into like a weird area of like
- 16:01Speaker 4: and that's why I usually don't like, you know, want
- 16:04Speaker 4: to talk to people and then turn around and be like, oh,
- 16:06Speaker 4: and here's what I think of the movie. Usually it's
- 16:08Speaker 4: very separate modes, and I feel like you can kind
- 16:10Speaker 4: of do that. It's like that was well before the
- 16:12Speaker 4: movie came out, and it was just talking to them
- 16:15Speaker 4: about the making of, and I kind of like that
- 16:18Speaker 4: as sort of its own thing. I'm kind of glad
- 16:20Speaker 4: to do that as its own separate thing versus us
- 16:24Speaker 4: yammering on about movies, which is an entirely different type
- 16:26Speaker 4: of show. So I kind of like doing that because
- 16:29Speaker 4: you also got a lot of behind-the-scenes stories that, you know,
- 16:33Speaker 4: watching the movie, you get a whole new appreciation for, actually, so... Yeah,
- 16:38Speaker 4: it was different going back and watching and having gone
- 16:41Speaker 4: through that a couple of years ago. But it's interesting. Finally,
- 16:46Speaker 4: I sort of put it off for a long time,
- 16:48Speaker 4: kind of because of that. Because I was a little...
- 16:50Speaker 4: In the beginning, I was almost too close to that.
- 16:52Speaker 4: And I was like, all right, now I've talked to
- 16:54Speaker 4: two of the three of them. Maybe I'll just leave
- 16:55Speaker 4: it alone for a while. So I finally was like,
- 16:57Speaker 4: all right, it's on that thing that we keep mentioning.
- 17:01Speaker 4: I can watch it for free. I'll sit here and
- 17:02Speaker 4: watch it. So, yeah, I... I have my issues with it.
- 17:07Speaker 4: We'll put it that way.
- 17:08Speaker 5: Yep.
- 17:10Speaker 4: The thing is, there's actually a lot of good stuff
- 17:12Speaker 4: in there. It's a weird mixture of a movie.
- 17:16Speaker 3: I don't even know this movie. What's the plot of
- 17:18Speaker 3: this movie?
- 17:21Speaker 1: You can't really say the plot.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Well, okay, here's basically the plot. And this is how
- 17:25Speaker 4: I know, like, I know this movie's in trouble when
- 17:28Speaker 4: I have a problem with it because it's basically Faster
- 17:31Speaker 4: Pussycat Kill Kill, only a little different. But, I mean,
- 17:35Speaker 4: there's definitely... drawing so heavily. I mean, it opens up
- 17:39Speaker 4: with three chicks getting out of a cool car and
- 17:43Speaker 4: it focuses on their boobs for most of the movie.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I'm just like, how can you not? And even they don't.
- 17:48Speaker 4: I mean, they freely admit that they're totally inspired by
- 17:51Speaker 4: Russ Meyer and they're inspired by all these old exploitation movies. So,
- 17:55Speaker 4: I mean, it's very much trying to be those. It's
- 17:58Speaker 4: seeking that out, really. So, I mean, you give them
- 18:01Speaker 4: a little license because of that, because they're trying to
- 18:03Speaker 4: do that. So it is sort of the same thing
- 18:06Speaker 4: they were doing with Machete or any of these other
- 18:09Speaker 4: really heavy, trying-to-be-an-exploitation-movie kind of thing.
- 18:13Speaker 1: It almost wasn't exploitation enough. Not that.
- 18:18Speaker 16: It was.
- 18:19Speaker 4: It was like the wrong kind of exploitation. It seems
- 18:23Speaker 4: like to me. Because it was inspired by.
- 18:27Speaker 2: What did you say?
- 18:28Speaker 4: To me, I mean, it's inspired by a lot of them,
- 18:30Speaker 4: but it's very heavily Faster Pussycat Kill Kill. I mean,
- 18:34Speaker 4: it's three girls in the desert.
- 18:35Speaker 5: But that was largely inspired by boobs, and you have
- 18:39Speaker 5: to stick.
- 18:40Speaker 2: With the.
- 18:41Speaker 4: Original source of inspiration. And they do not stray.
- 18:44Speaker 1: That's my guess. It's guns and boobs and violence.
- 18:47Speaker 2: If you're not inspired by boobs, there's something wrong.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Right. Which, on that aspect, the movie's just fine.
- 18:53Speaker 5: Oh.
- 18:54Speaker 4: In fact, it's very impressive, let's say.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I said correctly. Making hand gestures.
- 19:01Speaker 4: That's probably where a lot of people.
- 19:02Speaker 3: I can't believe I haven't heard of this movie. Yeah,
- 19:04Speaker 3: and I'm sitting here like, boobs, guns, everything I want.
- 19:08Speaker 4: And that's the thing, going into it, I'm listening to
- 19:10Speaker 4: them do the pitch, I'm watching the trailer, and I'm like,
- 19:13Speaker 4: this is awesome. How can there be anything wrong with this?
- 19:16Speaker 4: And then I finally get there two years later, and
- 19:18Speaker 4: I'm just like, well, okay, there is some stuff wrong
- 19:22Speaker 4: with it. You want it to be fun.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and you're like, oh, I see where they're going
- 19:27Speaker 1: with this.
- 19:27Speaker 4: And I see where they went wrong, kind of, in
- 19:30Speaker 4: a way. I mean, the stuff I will say that
- 19:32Speaker 4: is good was I like the women involved. If anybody suffers,
- 19:38Speaker 4: it's America Olivo has the worst dialogue and the worst character, really. So,
- 19:44Speaker 4: I mean, it's not her fault. She does what she can.
- 19:47Speaker 4: But Aaron Cummings, uh, I talked to her, she's ridiculously smart.
- 19:51Speaker 4: And like, you can tell, like, she's just, she's kind
- 19:54Speaker 4: of really interesting to watch and she does a good
- 19:57Speaker 4: amount with, I mean, again, her role is, is a
- 19:59Speaker 4: little more interesting. And Marika is just there to be
- 20:02Speaker 4: a dog in a chain waiting to attack you. And
- 20:04Speaker 4: that's all she is. She has nothing else to offer, but, but,
- 20:07Speaker 4: Erin Cummings' character has a little more and she makes
- 20:10Speaker 4: use of it. I think she's actually a really good
- 20:13Speaker 4: actress and has since then gone on. She's in Spartacus,
- 20:16Speaker 4: Blood and Sand. She's in Mad Men now. So it's
- 20:18Speaker 4: like she... I do want to see where she goes
- 20:21Speaker 4: because I think she is... Not only, if you watch it,
- 20:24Speaker 4: she's very attractive, but yeah, talking to her, she's like
- 20:27Speaker 4: ridiculously smart. So it's like I kind of hope she
- 20:30Speaker 4: ends up in better projects and even those are huge now.
- 20:34Speaker 4: So I mean, if they... Stick with that kind of
- 20:36Speaker 4: stuff and move more into just better property. The one
- 20:41Speaker 4: that almost makes it worth watching for me is Julia Voth,
- 20:46Speaker 4: the stripper with the heart of gold. And she's the
- 20:48Speaker 4: one I didn't talk to, but it's like, damn, why
- 20:50Speaker 4: didn't I talk to her? She comes off amazing in there. Like, really,
- 20:54Speaker 4: as much as there is working against her. She comes
- 20:58Speaker 4: off like fucking... She is. They have these shots where
- 21:03Speaker 4: there's just light emanating from her, and she comes off
- 21:07Speaker 4: that well. It's like she is ridiculously adorable. She's also
- 21:11Speaker 4: just like her character is the likable one, and she
- 21:14Speaker 4: makes it work. And by the end, they kind of
- 21:17Speaker 4: do some interesting stuff with her. So, I mean, it's
- 21:19Speaker 4: like she... should have gotten drugged down more than she was.
- 21:24Speaker 4: She just is so damn likable in this movie that
- 21:27Speaker 4: had this been a bigger property, this probably would have
- 21:29Speaker 4: broke her.
- 21:29Speaker 11: Like, I mean, I.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Cannot imagine her not being a huge star if more
- 21:33Speaker 4: people would have seen her pull off, you know, this
- 21:36Speaker 4: kind of performance in a movie that would have gone
- 21:38Speaker 4: over a little better. But yeah, she's pretty amazing for
- 21:43Speaker 4: what she has to do. I mean, all she has
- 21:44Speaker 4: to do is be cute and wear a gold dress
- 21:48Speaker 4: that's ridiculously tight. So, you know, I mean, there's a
- 21:51Speaker 4: level where she could just be pulling off on that alone.
- 21:55Speaker 4: But she brings a little more to that. I think
- 21:57Speaker 4: there's something to her that I hope ends up in
- 22:01Speaker 4: better projects once again. I think I was looking at
- 22:04Speaker 4: her list and I don't see anything else even since
- 22:07Speaker 4: then that's something recognizable or a big project. So I
- 22:11Speaker 4: really hope she ends up in something bigger. Just as
- 22:14Speaker 4: geek cred, though, for the super hardcore geeks out there,
- 22:18Speaker 4: it is interesting to know she is the model for
- 22:20Speaker 4: Jill Valentine in Resident Evil. Originally, they scanned her, and
- 22:26Speaker 4: she was what became, in the game, Jill Valentine. So,
- 22:30Speaker 4: kind of interesting from a geek perspective.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, no kidding.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Other than that, yeah, it's just... The story itself is
- 22:38Speaker 4: a pretty cool idea, but it's just... it suffers so
- 22:43Speaker 4: much from the dialogue. The dialogue is so bad, especially
- 22:47Speaker 4: everything Amarika has to say. It's just, they, they like
- 22:51Speaker 4: go out of her way to give her the worst
- 22:54Speaker 4: lines ever.
- 22:55Speaker 1: It's, uh, I don't know.
- 22:56Speaker 4: They're just trying way too hard to be like, I mean,
- 23:00Speaker 4: it's like unrealistically obscene. Like the, you know, the kind
- 23:04Speaker 4: of stuff that's, you know, I have no problem with
- 23:06Speaker 4: obscenity or things being offensive. Obviously I'm on this show, but,
- 23:11Speaker 4: It's like, it's so forced that it's cringeworthy. It's like
- 23:15Speaker 4: they're trying so hard to be offensive. Yeah, it's like
- 23:19Speaker 4: they're just, it's trying so hard to push that down
- 23:23Speaker 4: your throat that I think it takes away from the
- 23:25Speaker 4: things that are good in it. And there is some
- 23:27Speaker 4: good stuff. Not the weird CGI effects. I don't know
- 23:32Speaker 4: what they were thinking. I mean, most of it actually
- 23:33Speaker 4: takes place out in the desert and the shots look
- 23:35Speaker 4: good there. But they do these cutaways, little plot lines
- 23:38Speaker 4: that are in completely and obviously in front of a
- 23:41Speaker 4: green screen everything is in front of a green screen
- 23:44Speaker 4: and it looks so fake i mean and and as
- 23:48Speaker 4: i watched it i was like this is kind of
- 23:49Speaker 4: like if uh sucker punch had been made for like
- 23:52Speaker 4: 40 bucks because i mean it's it's almost the same
- 23:55Speaker 4: thing it's all about hot girls and violence and then
- 23:58Speaker 4: they fall into these little cutaway scenes and it goes
- 24:00Speaker 4: completely into a cg world and it's like it's follows
- 24:03Speaker 4: sort of a lot of similarities there but Here, it's
- 24:07Speaker 4: very obvious that it was green-screened and it looks silly. Again,
- 24:14Speaker 4: I don't know why they would even... I mean, if
- 24:15Speaker 4: you can't afford to do super killer green-screen stuff, just
- 24:19Speaker 4: write your scene somewhere you can go. It's like, I
- 24:22Speaker 4: don't know why they couldn't have done a lot of
- 24:23Speaker 4: those on a location or a soundstage or something that
- 24:27Speaker 4: just looked better.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 24:31Speaker 4: It actually doesn't look bad. I think the director is
- 24:34Speaker 4: Rick Jacobson, and The unfortunate part is he's also the co-writer.
- 24:40Speaker 4: But as far as visuals, I think it looks okay.
- 24:42Speaker 4: I think it's... But you can see he's got sort
- 24:45Speaker 4: of a theme. When I went back to see what
- 24:47Speaker 4: else he'd done, and it's a lot of... Well, he
- 24:49Speaker 4: actually moved on. He's doing Spartacus, Blood, and Sand, which
- 24:51Speaker 4: is actually a step up from what I hear on
- 24:53Speaker 4: this one. But if you go back and look at it,
- 24:55Speaker 4: it's mostly TV work, and it's She Spies, Baywatch, La
- 24:59Speaker 4: Femme Nikita, Cleopatra 2525, Xena. Do you see a pattern here?
- 25:05Speaker 4: He likes his scantily clad ass-kicking chicks.
- 25:07Speaker 1: There's nothing wrong with that.
- 25:10Speaker 4: No, but that's the thing. Most of these other ones
- 25:12Speaker 4: are still, like, a little above, you know? It's like,
- 25:15Speaker 4: Xena episodes were a little smarter than this entire movie.
- 25:19Speaker 4: And that's, you know, as entertaining as Xena was, he
- 25:23Speaker 4: didn't really go for the plot, usually. So, no offense.
- 25:27Speaker 4: I like Xena, you know, probably more than I should, but...
- 25:30Speaker 4: I mean, it had those tie-ins. You had cameos from
- 25:32Speaker 4: just about everybody in Xena. It had all this other
- 25:35Speaker 4: cool tie-ins to this other stuff. And the fight scenes
- 25:39Speaker 4: are awesome, thanks to Zoe Bell. Zoe Bell's awesome. She's
- 25:42Speaker 4: got a little cameo in it. You can see, I mean,
- 25:44Speaker 4: they put together one of the longest... I think their
- 25:47Speaker 4: billing was the longest chick fight scene ever in cinematic history.
- 25:51Speaker 4: And it is. It goes on forever. But it's like
- 25:55Speaker 4: everything else in the movie. It just becomes gratuitous. And
- 25:58Speaker 4: it's just... I know it's supposed to be grindhouse and
- 26:00Speaker 4: it's supposed to be exploitation, but it's just a little off.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Whatever it's trying to do, it's just a little off.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I don't know. I can't say I love it as
- 26:10Speaker 4: a whole, but I like some of its parts, and
- 26:12Speaker 4: you can take that as the innuendo if you want,
- 26:14Speaker 4: because if you watch the movie, yeah, they glorify those
- 26:18Speaker 4: parts really well. It's a very mixed bag. So, that's
- 26:25Speaker 4: what I've watched lately.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Greg?
- 26:27Speaker 3: It's my turn?
- 26:28Speaker 1: That's both.
- 26:29Speaker 6: I watched, this week, I watched the movie Black Death.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Ah, I've heard of it.
- 26:36Speaker 6: Yeah, it's Boromir, basically, I think he's still, it's the same,
- 26:44Speaker 6: it's probably his same outfit. I think they probably asked
- 26:46Speaker 6: for him to just bring that back from Lord of
- 26:49Speaker 6: the Rings. Sean Bean, the actor, the one that dies
- 26:52Speaker 6: in the first one. And then the other main actor
- 26:56Speaker 6: is Eddie Redmayne. The thing that I know him from
- 26:59Speaker 6: is the Pillars of.
- 27:00Speaker 2: The Earth.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Miniseries.
- 27:04Speaker 6: He's the architect's son or adopted son, whatever he is.
- 27:09Speaker 1: This is about the.
- 27:13Speaker 6: Bubonic plague has broken out and the church sends out
- 27:19Speaker 6: a death squad because there's one village that hasn't been
- 27:26Speaker 6: touched by it yet.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:27Speaker 6: And they believe that there's a witch there who is
- 27:31Speaker 6: a necromancer. And that that's why they're... It's all about
- 27:37Speaker 6: that religious fear. And they play on it well. She
- 27:45Speaker 6: plays on it well. She almost does it intentionally. And
- 27:48Speaker 6: so these guys are mercenaries and badasses. And Ed Redmayne
- 27:53Speaker 6: is a monk that is from that area. and he's
- 27:57Speaker 6: already struggling with secular life versus monastic life kind of thing. It's,
- 28:04Speaker 6: it's got a lot of, you know, religious ideas to
- 28:07Speaker 6: it and a lot of, a lot of stuff that
- 28:10Speaker 6: it brings up.
- 28:10Speaker 1: It's shot really well.
- 28:12Speaker 6: Um, the feel is very, um, you know, ominous and just,
- 28:19Speaker 6: I'm sure exactly how it felt at the time. Just,
- 28:22Speaker 6: you have no options. You're going to die. Everybody else,
- 28:26Speaker 6: everybody in your family is probably going to die. You
- 28:28Speaker 6: can turn to the church or you can turn to
- 28:30Speaker 6: witchcraft or, you know, whatever for solace.
- 28:32Speaker 1: And it's not, it's probably not going to help.
- 28:35Speaker 6: They do a good job of, you know, playing off
- 28:37Speaker 6: of what's real and what's not.
- 28:39Speaker 1: And, and, uh, paranoia.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:42Speaker 6: It's, especially if you like, you know, swords and badasses
- 28:48Speaker 6: and that, that sort of thing.
- 28:50Speaker 1: It's, it's that kind of movie.
- 28:51Speaker 6: It, It leaves you feeling almost helpless, though, because no
- 28:59Speaker 6: one's painted in a good picture, obviously.
- 29:02Speaker 1: You know, are the heroes really the heroes? That kind
- 29:05Speaker 1: of a film.
- 29:05Speaker 4: These were dark times.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:08Speaker 1: And it's fun to watch.
- 29:09Speaker 6: The acting, especially the Eddie Redmayne, he goes through a
- 29:14Speaker 6: lot of transitions and does a pretty good job with it.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a fun watch.
- 29:20Speaker 2: So.
- 29:21Speaker 4: If you like people dying.
- 29:22Speaker 1: If you like people dying, yeah, you know.
- 29:25Speaker 3: You had me, but you didn't mention boobs.
- 29:27Speaker 1: There are no boobs in it.
- 29:29Speaker 14: No boobs.
- 29:29Speaker 4: They're rotting and falling off, but they're there.
- 29:32Speaker 6: There is, you know, chicks coming out of the ground,
- 29:36Speaker 6: you know, dressed in white. Those Ghost boots? They're not
- 29:41Speaker 6: even ghost boots. You don't get to see anything like that.
- 29:43Speaker 6: You know, if it weren't for the violence, it would
- 29:46Speaker 6: probably be a PG-13 or less.
- 29:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Other than it's just such a heavy movie. There's no gratuitous...
- 29:54Speaker 1: sexuality at all.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Never mind.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Right, never mind.
- 29:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, this is a testosterone-filled episode.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Why are we talking about it, right?
- 30:01Speaker 6: I can't think of anything else. This is a short
- 30:03Speaker 6: week for me, so I can't think of anything else
- 30:05Speaker 6: that I've seen or done lately that.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Has any relevance.
- 30:09Speaker 6: It's a good watch. It is available for you to
- 30:12Speaker 6: watch for free.
- 30:14Speaker 4: On that thing.
- 30:15Speaker 1: On that thing.
- 30:16Speaker 4: It's not promoting us, but yeah, we mention them everywhere.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't promote it. Look, I'm poor, so I'm
- 30:20Speaker 1: not going to go rent a movie. Me too.
- 30:22Speaker 4: So, There's several things in the theater right now I'd
- 30:25Speaker 4: like to see. Right. But they're not free.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Which is why I watched that this morning.
- 30:30Speaker 6: I can't justify, yeah, I can't justify renting when I've
- 30:33Speaker 6: got it all ready for free.
- 30:34Speaker 1: So, I'll defer to Fred.
- 30:38Speaker 17: Oh.
- 30:39Speaker 3: That's right. I'm here.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I forgot.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Yes.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, I had kind of a short week too.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Not a lot going on.
- 30:47Speaker 5: I got like really disoriented. I went traveling and came
- 30:52Speaker 5: back and then sort of had lost the thread of
- 30:55Speaker 5: my life.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Do you want to tell people? I don't know if
- 31:00Speaker 4: we mentioned on the show where you were going.
- 31:02Speaker 5: You went twice a trip. Yeah, I went to Florence
- 31:05Speaker 5: with my daughter. She was just going to go. My
- 31:08Speaker 5: sister was teaching there and my daughter was going to
- 31:10Speaker 5: go visit. But then my wife was a little concerned
- 31:14Speaker 5: about her traveling alone. I'm like, she can track. She
- 31:16Speaker 5: would have been fine. But then my aunt wanted to
- 31:19Speaker 5: go visit my sister. And so my wife felt like Oh, well,
- 31:23Speaker 5: she can look after her, you know. But no, once
- 31:27Speaker 5: my aunt was gone, I knew I had to go.
- 31:30Speaker 5: Because I didn't want my daughter to have to take
- 31:32Speaker 5: care of my aunt. Which, you know, was so true.
- 31:36Speaker 5: My aunt went over there. She had no money.
- 31:40Speaker 2: She brought her checkbook.
- 31:43Speaker 4: They won't even take your check at the quickie mart
- 31:45Speaker 4: down the street.
- 31:46Speaker 3: I know.
- 31:47Speaker 5: And, you know, Italy in particular has its own banking
- 31:51Speaker 5: system that And you just couldn't explain it to her.
- 31:54Speaker 5: I had told her and told her, you know, call
- 31:56Speaker 5: your visa, you know, and tell them you're going to
- 31:58Speaker 5: be traveling.
- 31:59Speaker 2: She didn't. So it was just the whole thing. I
- 32:04Speaker 2: think I maybe slept three to four hours the entire week.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Or ten days we were there.
- 32:11Speaker 5: It was exhausting. But it was great, you know. And
- 32:15Speaker 5: my aunt, you know, she had trouble getting around.
- 32:18Speaker 2: And it's a walking situation. You know, and.
- 32:23Speaker 5: So we did that, and the whole time, like on
- 32:26Speaker 5: the way there, like the night before on the plane,
- 32:29Speaker 5: I thought it would be a good time for my
- 32:32Speaker 5: daughter to see Bicycle.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Thief, which is a.
- 32:36Speaker 5: Movie I like a lot. Some people call it Bicycle Thieves.
- 32:40Speaker 5: They argue about the title.
- 32:42Speaker 2: We never got to do that.
- 32:44Speaker 5: We just never found time. And then I get there,
- 32:48Speaker 5: and my sister has it. Because she's teaching, and she
- 32:52Speaker 5: teaches film and fiction is one of her classes. So
- 32:56Speaker 5: she's got that, and we get into an argument about it,
- 33:00Speaker 5: sort of, because she's like, yeah, it's not really one
- 33:03Speaker 5: of the better movies of that.
- 33:05Speaker 2: I really like it. I said, well, wait a minute.
- 33:08Speaker 5: I like it because I like, you know, a lot
- 33:11Speaker 5: of my favorite movies wind up being movies that have
- 33:14Speaker 5: kids in them because there's just something really poignant to
- 33:18Speaker 5: me about the way kids are born into the world
- 33:21Speaker 5: and have to make themselves at home, whatever craziness is
- 33:25Speaker 5: going on. And there's always something and they deal with it.
- 33:28Speaker 5: And I just, she's like, nah, I think kids are resilient.
- 33:33Speaker 5: So you don't really care what happens to them.
- 33:35Speaker 2: They'll get over it. I'm like, well, I guess you've
- 33:39Speaker 2: got a point there.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Um, it sounds like most of our staff sounds like
- 33:43Speaker 4: our attitude toward children on this show. Yeah.
- 33:46Speaker 2: And you know, I can, No, seriously, I see she
- 33:48Speaker 2: has a point.
- 33:51Speaker 5: She wanted us to watch Il Posto, which we never
- 33:54Speaker 5: got around to because we didn't do anything except eat
- 33:58Speaker 5: and walk around and eat more.
- 33:59Speaker 4: It is Italy. Yeah.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Oh, and right before I left, I watched The American.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Which was kind of a tie-in.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of a tie-in. I was disappointed in it.
- 34:11Speaker 5: It was not thriller enough, a little too intellectual. And
- 34:17Speaker 5: I didn't really buy the intellectual part of it.
- 34:20Speaker 2: It just didn't add up.
- 34:23Speaker 5: It had one of those things like in Dostoevsky that
- 34:26Speaker 5: I've never liked, this pairing of the killer with the
- 34:31Speaker 5: hooker with a heart of gold.
- 34:33Speaker 2: It's like, what kind of a pendant pair is that?
- 34:37Speaker 2: Because her crime is nothing compared to his. I mean,
- 34:41Speaker 2: what sort of situation.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Are you like?
- 34:43Speaker 2: On the one hand, the killer.
- 34:44Speaker 5: A guy.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Who kills people for money. And a woman who has
- 34:48Speaker 2: sex with people for money.
- 34:49Speaker 4: The money. That's the tie-in right there.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Well, I guess.
- 34:55Speaker 5: And also, just now, whenever I watch George Clooney, I'm
- 34:58Speaker 5: always worried about his back.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I heard he had that back injury. I'm like, looks
- 35:05Speaker 2: like he's walking funny. Is he okay?
- 35:08Speaker 4: You're screaming at the screen. Don't lift that.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Don't. With your knees.
- 35:12Speaker 4: No.
- 35:14Speaker 1: With your knees.
- 35:16Speaker 2: So then I get back and try to remember where
- 35:21Speaker 2: I left off. And we watch.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Il Posto, which is about a young guy who gets
- 35:29Speaker 5: a job. He's a really cute guy. He looks a little.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Like young Bob Dylan.
- 35:35Speaker 5: In places he has sort of the same gestures and
- 35:39Speaker 5: um I I'm sort of doing them so you can
- 35:42Speaker 5: see still.
- 35:43Speaker 8: Has one hand under the table yeah well you know Dylan.
- 35:47Speaker 5: But that was that was a really good movie it's
- 35:49Speaker 5: definitely worth seeing and it's just what it is you
- 35:53Speaker 5: know you watch this kid get a job and and
- 35:57Speaker 5: then he didn't really quite get the job but they've
- 36:00Speaker 5: got one so he'll be a messenger for a while
- 36:02Speaker 5: and then he'll get the job and uh And it
- 36:05Speaker 5: just plays out over those very, you know, very acutely
- 36:11Speaker 5: observed scenes. So that's definitely something I'd recommend.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I'd never seen it before.
- 36:20Speaker 5: And on the plane I saw an episode, they had
- 36:23Speaker 5: one episode of Boardwalk Empire.
- 36:25Speaker 4: I've heard really good things.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Which, you know, it was out of context. It wasn't
- 36:31Speaker 2: the pilot.
- 36:31Speaker 5: I didn't really know what was going on, but I'd
- 36:35Speaker 5: watch it just for the look and feel of it. Just,
- 36:37Speaker 5: you know, you can tell it's got so much talent
- 36:42Speaker 5: in it.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Anything with pissy.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, then there was, let's see.
- 36:48Speaker 5: Oh, I finished up watching a series I really like,
- 36:51Speaker 5: which is found, I don't know, called Party Down.
- 36:55Speaker 4: I've heard nothing but good stuff about that.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Oh, I love that so much. I can't believe it.
- 37:01Speaker 4: Didn't survive i can because that's what happens every.
- 37:04Speaker 18: Show i know it was so good it's and it's
- 37:07Speaker 18: kind of i think i especially like it because i've
- 37:10Speaker 18: determined over the years that my favorite kind of story
- 37:15Speaker 18: is a story about people who set out on an
- 37:18Speaker 18: adventure which is a really bad idea.
- 37:24Speaker 5: And then things go terribly wrong and it's like it's
- 37:27Speaker 5: predictable i mean you kind of think This doesn't seem
- 37:31Speaker 5: like a good thing for people to do. And then
- 37:34Speaker 5: they do it anyway because they're human. Because that's what
- 37:38Speaker 5: people do. And then it just goes bad.
- 37:41Speaker 2: I love that. I don't know what it is. That's
- 37:43Speaker 2: my story.
- 37:44Speaker 4: You're sadistic.
- 37:47Speaker 2: I just really like it. Even if it's documentaries. I
- 37:50Speaker 2: love those like Touching the Void. Two guys go.
- 37:55Speaker 4: To climb a mountain. And it goes horribly wrong.
- 37:59Speaker 2: I love that, man. That's so great.
- 38:01Speaker 5: But these people are all people who went into acting.
- 38:07Speaker 5: And it's not working out. Well, it's mostly all people
- 38:11Speaker 5: who are actors and comedians.
- 38:13Speaker 4: While they're all caterers.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and so now they're all catering people. And they're
- 38:17Speaker 2: catering to people who are on the other side. They're
- 38:21Speaker 2: catering to people who are in the business.
- 38:23Speaker 5: And they're always brushing up against everything they envy and resent.
- 38:29Speaker 5: The one guy even runs into his old writing partner
- 38:33Speaker 5: who's like a sellout and he's making a million dollars.
- 38:37Speaker 2: And he only invited them to just rub it in
- 38:39Speaker 2: his face. Oh, it's so great. It's amazing.
- 38:43Speaker 5: And the cast, everybody in it is just fantastic. So
- 38:47Speaker 5: I've watched it to the end, and I guess now
- 38:50Speaker 5: I'll start over or something.
- 38:52Speaker 4: I'm surprised I made it this far without seeing it,
- 38:54Speaker 4: because I know it's also got Kirsten Ballard in it.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 38:59Speaker 4: Yeah. So, yeah, the fact that I've made it and
- 39:02Speaker 4: haven't watched it is kind of amazing. Definitely it's on
- 39:05Speaker 4: the list. I'm going to have to watch it.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Yeah, once you start.
- 39:10Speaker 5: I don't know how we got onto it. It's on
- 39:12Speaker 5: that thing that has free stuff you can watch.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I don't know if you all heard of that.
- 39:17Speaker 4: Yeah. The internet thing.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's something. It hooks up and you just watch stuff.
- 39:23Speaker 2: It's cool. But we ran out of something we were watching.
- 39:27Speaker 2: We got to the end. It's like, oh, what are
- 39:29Speaker 2: we going to do? That looks good.
- 39:31Speaker 4: We suggest this for you.
- 39:33Speaker 7: Yeah. Right.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Like, why does this machine know me better than I
- 39:36Speaker 4: know myself?
- 39:38Speaker 2: It has, like, some of the people from Freaks and
- 39:40Speaker 2: Geeks and other people.
- 39:41Speaker 5: Oh, really? Yeah.
- 39:42Speaker 4: I'm going to watch it. Yeah, it's tie-ins from so
- 39:45Speaker 4: many other shows.
- 39:45Speaker 5: Like, everybody.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Some of them just work in a couple episodes, but yeah,
- 39:49Speaker 4: it ties in a lot of really interesting cast members.
- 39:52Speaker 5: And I noticed there's something, like Paul Rudd worked on it,
- 39:57Speaker 5: probably before I ever heard of him. But there's something
- 40:00Speaker 5: about him and other projects he's done that ties into it.
- 40:05Speaker 2: It's like you can see he has some creative influence.
- 40:08Speaker 5: And I guess I decided, he's really got something going on.
- 40:13Speaker 2: He's got something... he understands and can be really funny with.
- 40:17Speaker 4: You seem like you shouldn't like him as much as
- 40:20Speaker 4: you end up liking him. He seems like he's in
- 40:22Speaker 4: such mainstream stuff a lot of the time that you're
- 40:24Speaker 4: just like, oh, Paul Rudd again.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:26Speaker 4: And then every once in a while you're like, huh,
- 40:28Speaker 4: he's actually really good in this, or, oh, I didn't
- 40:30Speaker 4: know he did this. Yeah. He's sort of got a
- 40:33Speaker 4: little more street cred than I guess you would expect
- 40:36Speaker 4: out of him.
- 40:36Speaker 5: Yeah, well, this show definitely elevated his profile for me.
- 40:41Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of the other stuff he's done is.
- 40:44Speaker 5: Mainstream, but you see traces of whatever it is he has. Especially,
- 40:50Speaker 5: I think, wasn't he the guy in 40-Year-Old Virgin who
- 40:54Speaker 5: was drunk and obsessive?
- 40:58Speaker 1: He was in that. I don't know about the drunk part.
- 41:02Speaker 6: He's the one that... Him and Seth Rogen... um, played
- 41:06Speaker 6: off of each other.
- 41:07Speaker 5: Yeah. I know how I know you're gay, but also
- 41:10Speaker 5: didn't he have like the girlfriend who had dumped him
- 41:13Speaker 5: and he was just like falling apart.
- 41:15Speaker 1: That thought they could get back together.
- 41:18Speaker 5: Yeah. That thing, there's something there that, uh, I think
- 41:22Speaker 5: he really knows something about. Right.
- 41:25Speaker 2: I think he really does.
- 41:27Speaker 4: He's still trying to get over Phoebe.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Yeah. So that's kind of my, my geek week. Uh,
- 41:34Speaker 2: Didn't he.
- 41:34Speaker 1: What did he change his name to? Ballsack or something
- 41:38Speaker 1: like that? I forget what that was. It was... You
- 41:41Speaker 1: tell me.
- 41:42Speaker 6: Oh, Banana Hammock is what he changed his name to.
- 41:46Speaker 6: His character on Friends.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Oh, Lord.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that's the problem that you have with it,
- 41:52Speaker 1: is he was on Friends.
- 41:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:54Speaker 1: You know, those sorts of things. He's too mainstream, but
- 41:58Speaker 1: he's also too good, you know.
- 42:00Speaker 4: and it took him so long. I mean, it took
- 42:02Speaker 4: him 15, 20 years really before he worked himself up
- 42:05Speaker 4: to that point. I mean, he was go back and
- 42:08Speaker 4: look at him in like these little parts years and
- 42:10Speaker 4: years ago. And so yeah, it's weird. It took that
- 42:13Speaker 4: long for him to hit the mainstream really.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:16Speaker 1: For a long time. He's been that guy.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:18Speaker 4: He was always Cher's brother.
- 42:19Speaker 2: That's why I wasn't.
- 42:20Speaker 5: Even, that's why I wasn't even sure about, um, Whether
- 42:24Speaker 5: that was him, because he was that guy, you.
- 42:27Speaker 4: Know, when I saw that.
- 42:28Speaker 2: He was, oh, that guy.
- 42:29Speaker 4: He just always shares brother to me. Who she ends
- 42:32Speaker 4: up screwing around with. It's not Kentucky. All right, so
- 42:37Speaker 4: that is it for you, Matt. Your geek activities.
- 42:41Speaker 3: My geek activities. If I could narrow them down.
- 42:45Speaker 4: If that's possible.
- 42:46Speaker 3: I am playing a lot of SNES games.
- 42:50Speaker 4: Mario Kart.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Just had to throw that in there.
- 42:52Speaker 5: I wanted to mention the girl who's like the basic...
- 42:55Speaker 5: I was actually the model for Luigi. It's just part
- 42:59Speaker 5: of my cred.
- 43:01Speaker 4: I've noticed when you walk, actually, he's got a very
- 43:03Speaker 4: specific walk. Right. He's really tall with short legs. I
- 43:07Speaker 4: gave him my wings.
- 43:08Speaker 1: It's like to.
- 43:09Speaker 2: The old country.
- 43:10Speaker 7: Right?
- 43:11Speaker 4: It's a me, a Luigi.
- 43:13Speaker 5: It's part of my geek cred.
- 43:18Speaker 4: I thought I'd.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Toss it out.
- 43:19Speaker 3: I had to throw out the Mario Brothers. I had to.
- 43:22Speaker 6: I just completed, to go along with that, the new
- 43:26Speaker 6: Super Mario for the Wii.
- 43:28Speaker 1: My son and I just completed it.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Well, this is the absolute truth. My daughter is driving now.
- 43:36Speaker 5: And when she was learning to drive, and like one
- 43:39Speaker 5: of the first times we got out on the road
- 43:40Speaker 5: where she could open up, somebody threw a banana. out
- 43:44Speaker 5: of a window and it freaked her out because like
- 43:48Speaker 5: in Mario Kart that's.
- 43:49Speaker 19: Your dangerous that's your axe I didn't know what to
- 43:53Speaker 19: do because in Mario Kart nothing would happen and she.
- 43:57Speaker 5: Really you know kind of shocked her uh oh the.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Whole car started spinning.
- 44:01Speaker 8: Yeah any Mario games after the Super Nintendo I can't
- 44:06Speaker 8: play they start spinning and flying and no basically I
- 44:11Speaker 8: can break blocks and spit fireballs.
- 44:14Speaker 6: Kill turtles you can that to me is the mario
- 44:16Speaker 6: brothers float down.
- 44:18Speaker 1: With your raccoon tail i could do that in three.
- 44:22Speaker 8: Yeah three but uh i've had a lot of mario
- 44:26Speaker 8: over the years so it's it's classic.
- 44:28Speaker 4: You can't fight mario he's awesome but.
- 44:31Speaker 8: Uh watching a lot of it's always sunny in philadelphia
- 44:34Speaker 8: i had to throw that out there it is just
- 44:36Speaker 8: absolute classic classic in the making.
- 44:40Speaker 4: You're minorly obsessed with this.
- 44:41Speaker 3: I am, and I actually went and re-watched Macon County Line.
- 44:45Speaker 8: I love this movie. This movie has nobody in it.
- 44:48Speaker 8: It has Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies.
- 44:50Speaker 5: Yep.
- 44:51Speaker 3: He plays this hit cop, or sheriff.
- 44:54Speaker 8: And these two guys that set out on an adventure
- 44:58Speaker 8: think they're going to go out on an adventure, and
- 45:01Speaker 8: it just goes.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Terribly wrong, just like you were saying. And, you know,
- 45:05Speaker 3: there you go. You have a movie. But, uh, If
- 45:08Speaker 3: you haven't seen it, I recommend going to Big Lots.
- 45:10Speaker 3: It's available for $ 3.
- 45:11Speaker 4: That other place that we're not playing?
- 45:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I will not mention the other place that is online.
- 45:18Speaker 4: Big Lots, you can send your checks over to Ryan.
- 45:20Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 45:21Speaker 8: I was motivated to watch a lot of movies this week,
- 45:23Speaker 8: and I just did not do it. Renoir, I was like, okay,
- 45:27Speaker 8: I'm going to watch this movie called Les Boulets.
- 45:29Speaker 3: It's like Star Wars. Reading it.
- 45:32Speaker 8: I was like, you know, just not in the mood
- 45:34Speaker 8: for it. And that's when I threw in Smokey and
- 45:36Speaker 8: the Bandit.
- 45:36Speaker 4: Yeah, see?
- 45:37Speaker 3: You know, go to the old standby.
- 45:39Speaker 4: That's how our brains work. We really want to watch
- 45:42Speaker 4: these really sophisticated films.
- 45:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought it would make me sound intelligent.
- 45:46Speaker 4: We end up watching boobs in cars.
- 45:48Speaker 3: That's what I'm into.
- 45:49Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what we love.
- 45:50Speaker 3: That is what I'm into.
- 45:51Speaker 1: If Mario had boobs in cars, I'd never leave my house.
- 45:54Speaker 4: That princess is pretty hot.
- 45:55Speaker 3: I was going to say, princess, if you get a
- 45:56Speaker 3: little profile on her.
- 45:58Speaker 1: It does have cars, too.
- 45:58Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 45:59Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 46:02Speaker 4: That's why we keep coming back to it.
- 46:06Speaker 3: I just lost my whole train of thought.
- 46:07Speaker 4: Boobs.
- 46:08Speaker 14: Boobs.
- 46:08Speaker 4: And then what.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Were we talking about?
- 46:12Speaker 13: Right.
- 46:13Speaker 6: We're genetically designed to stop thinking when we see boobs.
- 46:17Speaker 4: Yeah. Anything else?
- 46:19Speaker 3: I just dropped the ball on you.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 46:21Speaker 3: I was not prepared for that.
- 46:23Speaker 4: If you can, think of anything else. Anything else you
- 46:27Speaker 4: haven't been watching?
- 46:29Speaker 3: I really just went blank on you.
- 46:30Speaker 4: I really did.
- 46:31Speaker 3: I apologize.
- 46:32Speaker 8: I mean, I recently watched Clay Pigeons. It's got Janine Garofalo,
- 46:38Speaker 8: who ruins the movie for me.
- 46:40Speaker 4: As much as I like her, she seems out of place.
- 46:43Speaker 8: It was the one time I actually kind of liked
- 46:46Speaker 8: Vince Vaughn, aside from Swingers.
- 46:49Speaker 4: He's a tough sell.
- 46:51Speaker 8: Every time he plays a Midwestern person, he seems to
- 46:53Speaker 8: irritate me a little bit.
- 46:54Speaker 3: It's like, are you making fun of me? Would you
- 46:57Speaker 3: stop making fun of me?
- 46:59Speaker 1: Nice. If you take him in.
- 47:01Speaker 8: Clay Pigeons, he is exactly the same person in the
- 47:04Speaker 8: remake of Psycho. He acts exactly the same.
- 47:08Speaker 6: He did well in Into the Wild. He was in
- 47:12Speaker 6: it for two scenes, but it didn't seem like it
- 47:15Speaker 6: was him.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Really? Yeah.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Really?
- 47:17Speaker 3: I haven't seen it.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Sorry to interrupt, but that's one thing that I know
- 47:20Speaker 1: he's pretty good at.
- 47:22Speaker 3: I did read the book.
- 47:23Speaker 1: I read the book.
- 47:24Speaker 3: I have not seen the film.
- 47:25Speaker 1: We don't talk about books.
- 47:27Speaker 4: We don't talk about books.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Unless they're comic books or pop-up books.
- 47:30Speaker 4: We'll see about that in the next thing.
- 47:34Speaker 8: That is kind of my nerdism, or my geekism, is
- 47:37Speaker 8: reading these Max Allen Collins who did The Roads of Redition.
- 47:41Speaker 3: Just those, you know, kind of that... pulp fiction just
- 47:47Speaker 3: it's got boobs it's got guns it's got cars it's
- 47:49Speaker 3: got that detective.
- 47:50Speaker 8: That is always gonna win that's what we always come
- 47:54Speaker 8: back to all of these that's that's how i escape
- 47:57Speaker 8: well that's what those were i mean the whole pulp
- 48:00Speaker 8: novel thing it was just b movies in print basically
- 48:02Speaker 8: right so yeah it's.
- 48:05Speaker 5: I really like those confused conversations that happen when you're
- 48:09Speaker 5: talking to somebody about something and they're thinking.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Of a book and you're talking.
- 48:12Speaker 1: About something else.
- 48:15Speaker 4: You're talking about what you had for dinner last night.
- 48:18Speaker 5: There was one time this really attractive woman was at
- 48:22Speaker 5: work and I'm like, she looked just like one of
- 48:24Speaker 5: those Hemingway girls.
- 48:26Speaker 2: And later I hear the other guy is like, man,
- 48:28Speaker 2: Fred has this really vivid imagination. No, I mean like
- 48:32Speaker 2: Uriel Hemingway in a movie.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Not in a book. Yeah, quit reading.
- 48:40Speaker 4: She really looks like words.
- 48:42Speaker 8: She looks like Santiago.
- 48:48Speaker 4: God.
- 48:48Speaker 20: Wow.
- 48:50Speaker 5: I just can't remember which of the Hemingway girls is which.
- 48:53Speaker 2: I don't know. One of them was in Manhattan. That's
- 48:56Speaker 2: all I know.
- 48:57Speaker 5: Marietta.
- 48:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:00Speaker 4: They sound too much alike. That's their problem. They look
- 49:02Speaker 4: too much alike, too.
- 49:04Speaker 1: You know what? I may have always thought they were
- 49:06Speaker 1: the same person.
- 49:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:07Speaker 3: Are they still alive? Did one commit suicide? Or is
- 49:11Speaker 3: that just the dad?
- 49:13Speaker 1: The dad did.
- 49:14Speaker 4: I don't think so, but if they have.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Career suicide, maybe.
- 49:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like career-wise.
- 49:20Speaker 5: I thought that one, whoever she was in Manhattan, was
- 49:23Speaker 5: just fabulous.
- 49:25Speaker 2: I thought she was great, and then I never saw
- 49:27Speaker 2: anything again.
- 49:28Speaker 4: If either of the Hemingway sisters are out there, you know,
- 49:31Speaker 4: get a hold of us, let us know.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Right, they listen weekly.
- 49:34Speaker 4: And more importantly, if you are dead, get a hold
- 49:37Speaker 4: of us, because that would be awesome. Ghost boobs. Ghost boobs.
- 49:40Speaker 4: That's what we're always looking for.
- 49:43Speaker 1: That'd be a good novel.
- 49:45Speaker 2: Ghost boobs. Everybody would buy it.
- 49:47Speaker 3: All you need is a gun and a car.
- 49:49Speaker 4: Sequel to Ghost Dad. All right. I guess with that,
- 49:56Speaker 4: we'll take a break. We'll be back with a special
- 49:59Speaker 4: segment that is actually equally, well, even more funny after...
- 50:04Speaker 4: what we just said a minute ago.
- 50:05Speaker 3: So we'll be right back.
- 50:31Speaker 7: In the mood for hot coffee? When you are, nothing
- 50:34Speaker 7: else will satisfy. Coffee has a flavor, an aroma, a
- 50:38Speaker 7: deep down satisfying goodness all its own. And our coffee
- 50:41Speaker 7: has something extra, the care with which we brew and
- 50:44Speaker 7: serve it. You'll enjoy the show more while you're enjoying
- 50:47Speaker 7: steaming hot coffee. Come and get yours now.
- 50:51Speaker 9: Possessed by his evil, he turned young.
- 50:55Speaker 3: Virgins into torturers. He was the creator and the director.
- 51:03Speaker 8: He was the master of blood-sucking freaks.
- 51:07Speaker 17: A show that will make anyone wretch.

- 51:59Speaker 4: you're so cool, Brewster.
- 52:01Speaker 2: I can't stand it.
- 52:29Speaker 4: Steel Pan.
- 52:30Speaker 1: My wife just texted me. She took the kids to
- 52:32Speaker 1: see Cars 2.
- 52:33Speaker 6: They don't go to a lot of theaters and they
- 52:35Speaker 6: definitely don't do the thing.
- 52:39Speaker 1: The kids made her sit in the front row.
- 52:41Speaker 4: What the hell?
- 52:42Speaker 6: And she yawned and her neck is up and she's
- 52:46Speaker 6: looking at it and she yawned And she got a
- 52:48Speaker 6: charley horse in her throat.
- 52:50Speaker 4: This is not good at all.
- 52:51Speaker 6: She was very concerned that something bad was happening to her.
- 52:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it was. It was called Cars 2. Oh, that
- 53:02Speaker 4: should have been tagged.
- 53:04Speaker 2: It is.
- 53:04Speaker 5: Oh, Lord.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Well, I think it's the Larry the Cable guy.
- 53:11Speaker 4: That's what kills it for me. I'm just like, I
- 53:13Speaker 4: don't mind the McQueen guy.
- 53:16Speaker 1: And Owen Wilson.
- 53:17Speaker 4: But, I mean, you know, it's a McQueen tie-in. So
- 53:20Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, I'm all right with that. And then
- 53:22Speaker 4: you get into the Mater bullshit, and I'm just like,
- 53:24Speaker 4: I want to tear my fucking nose open.
- 53:25Speaker 3: My problem with Owen Wilson is I always end up
- 53:27Speaker 3: staring at his nose like, did he break it? Or
- 53:29Speaker 3: was he born that way? Like, what is happening there?
- 53:31Speaker 1: Maybe it's both.
- 53:33Speaker 4: He was born that way, and the doctor punched him
- 53:35Speaker 4: in the face.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:38Speaker 4: And you're just supposed to slap him on the ass.
- 53:40Speaker 4: He's like, well, I couldn't help it. Did you see
- 53:41Speaker 4: that nose?
- 53:42Speaker 6: I really like Luke Wilson, and I can barely stand
- 53:45Speaker 6: to watch Owen Wilson.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Do you like the movie Bottle Rocket?
- 53:50Speaker 1: I haven't seen Bottle Rocket.
- 53:51Speaker 2: Oh, we've got to see that. That's fun. Good.
- 53:55Speaker 1: I will take that down.
- 53:56Speaker 2: I don't mind Owen Wilson. I don't care about his nose.
- 54:00Speaker 14: Really?
- 54:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:02Speaker 5: I kind of like seeing somebody who's just that confident
- 54:05Speaker 5: with a fucked up face.
- 54:06Speaker 2: I like that.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Right. That's why you like Mask, right?
- 54:09Speaker 4: What?
- 54:10Speaker 2: I actually never saw that.
- 54:12Speaker 3: You never saw Mask?
- 54:14Speaker 2: No. Wow.
- 54:15Speaker 1: I've seen that many times.
- 54:16Speaker 4: Luke is easily as messed up. His is just not
- 54:19Speaker 4: as noticeable.
- 54:20Speaker 2: He's suddenly like... Puffed up like puffed weed.
- 54:23Speaker 4: Well, I mean, he always had the jaw. His jaw
- 54:25Speaker 4: was always, like, fucking huge. It was weird looking. I'm like,
- 54:28Speaker 4: this whole family, something ain't right with the DNA. Something's
- 54:32Speaker 4: messed up.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Except for they have two sons that are multi-multi-millionaires.
- 54:36Speaker 4: And that's also not fair. That just makes me angry.
- 54:40Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 54:42Speaker 5: Somebody who's, like, a successful, that's successful and multi-millionaire.
- 54:48Speaker 2: And suicidal.
- 54:49Speaker 4: I mean, it's wasted on him.
- 54:51Speaker 2: He obviously isn't appreciating it.
- 54:53Speaker 4: At least write me the check and mail it off
- 54:55Speaker 4: before you finish this.
- 54:57Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 54:57Speaker 4: So somebody can make use of it. Especially not your family.
- 55:00Speaker 3: I know.
- 55:00Speaker 2: It's like when my sister, like, you know, she moved
- 55:03Speaker 2: to the Bay Area in San Francisco. Won't eat seafood.
- 55:09Speaker 2: You're just taking up space. You've got no right to
- 55:13Speaker 2: be there.
- 55:13Speaker 4: Won't eat seafood.
- 55:16Speaker 2: I see.
- 55:18Speaker 3: All right, we are back.
- 55:19Speaker 4: And it's been quite a while. Actually, these next two
- 55:22Speaker 4: segments it's been a while on. But it's been a
- 55:24Speaker 4: while since we've done a Trendy Movie Geeks session. And
- 55:28Speaker 4: technically we did just do a whole episode about a book. But, yeah,
- 55:33Speaker 4: that was probably jarring enough for most of our regular listeners.
- 55:36Speaker 4: But once again, we've had one thrown at us. So
- 55:40Speaker 4: we're going against the whole way this show usually works.
- 55:44Speaker 4: And we're going to discuss a book for a minute.
- 55:46Speaker 4: But it's okay. I think even Misty would be on board.
- 55:48Speaker 4: It's got pictures. It's mostly pictures.
- 55:52Speaker 1: This isn't the Samuel L. Jackson Go to Fuck to
- 55:54Speaker 1: Sleep in.
- 55:55Speaker 4: Kind of, if you look at the cover here.
- 55:57Speaker 1: Oh, wow. How about that, man?
- 56:00Speaker 5: That would look good with the title, Go to Fuck
- 56:03Speaker 5: to Sleep.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Man, they really missed the boat on that.
- 56:07Speaker 4: That should be the cover to the book.
- 56:10Speaker 1: The second edition was.
- 56:13Speaker 2: Go the fuck to sleep, too.
- 56:16Speaker 4: It is entitled Crazy for Cult, Cult Movie Art. And
- 56:21Speaker 4: I'll pass it around here, and you guys can check
- 56:22Speaker 4: it out and see what you think. If you look
- 56:25Speaker 4: at it, I'll give you one down. They did send
- 56:27Speaker 4: this over for us to check out. The publishers? Titan
- 56:32Speaker 4: Books are the ones that put it out, and they
- 56:34Speaker 4: sent it to us personally to check it out. And
- 56:38Speaker 4: here's the little wall you look. I'm going to go
- 56:40Speaker 4: into something here. And number one, I was bitching about
- 56:43Speaker 4: this just a couple of weeks.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Ago when.
- 56:47Speaker 4: I was going into the bacon thing. Because I was
- 56:50Speaker 4: complaining because now all of a sudden it's super trendy.
- 56:54Speaker 4: And as soon as we did our Oscar episode this year,
- 56:58Speaker 4: two weeks later they had this big event in town
- 57:00Speaker 4: called the Bacon Ball. And I was like, motherfuckers gotta
- 57:04Speaker 4: steal my idea. So, and now it's like Denny's has
- 57:07Speaker 4: all their bacon things. I was just like, well, you know,
- 57:10Speaker 4: I came up with the idea for that party like
- 57:13Speaker 4: in 94, so fuck you guys. So, I mean, everybody,
- 57:16Speaker 4: you know, it becomes super trendy and everybody jumps on
- 57:18Speaker 4: that bandwagon. Well, I was also going to, as I'm
- 57:22Speaker 4: looking at the book here, I was like, well, you know,
- 57:25Speaker 4: back when I used to deal with the old artists,
- 57:29Speaker 4: I put together... a show that was specifically a movie-themed
- 57:34Speaker 4: art show. Fred, you were at that.
- 57:36Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 57:38Speaker 4: That's awesome. This was a while ago. I started doing
- 57:41Speaker 4: the math. It was the beginning of 2007, which then,
- 57:45Speaker 4: in looking at what they, this is, let's see, it's
- 57:48Speaker 4: Gallery 1988 in California. It's done this, and this is based,
- 57:53Speaker 4: this whole book is based around the show that they've
- 57:54Speaker 4: put together that is Crazy Four Cult that's specifically about
- 57:58Speaker 4: movie-themed art. But, I'm pretty sure doing the math in
- 58:00Speaker 4: mine was first. So, once again, my point is, bitches
- 58:04Speaker 4: be stealing my idea.
- 58:06Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 58:07Speaker 4: But, yeah, I put together the Movie Geek Art Show,
- 58:09Speaker 4: once again, working in my Movie Geek idea that's been
- 58:12Speaker 4: around for more years than I can think of. So
- 58:14Speaker 4: I just worked it into a specific art show, and, yeah,
- 58:18Speaker 4: we got some really good stuff there that day. Fred,
- 58:21Speaker 4: you shaved your head for the event into a mohawk.
- 58:23Speaker 2: No, not me.
- 58:24Speaker 4: I'm not making that part up. I also encourage people
- 58:27Speaker 4: to come in costume of their favorite movie characters. My
- 58:30Speaker 4: daughter came.
- 58:31Speaker 2: Yep.
- 58:32Speaker 1: She was there.
- 58:32Speaker 4: What was she? Maria.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Oh, she was there.
- 58:35Speaker 4: Yeah, she severed her own head for that.
- 58:37Speaker 2: I forgot about that. She goes the distance.
- 58:40Speaker 4: She was not messing around.
- 58:41Speaker 1: Oh, look, that one's creepy.
- 58:44Speaker 4: I like that whole series they put together.
- 58:45Speaker 1: The family photos.
- 58:46Speaker 4: The family portraits of the messed up families from movies.
- 58:50Speaker 4: That's a good series. McFly fanfic. But yeah, so my
- 58:55Speaker 4: little series obviously wasn't as successful as this one, but
- 58:59Speaker 4: I just wanted to claim it.
- 59:00Speaker 1: I did it first.
- 59:01Speaker 4: Anyway, so moving on to the official stuff, I'll read
- 59:04Speaker 4: what they sent over here. It's actually got an introduction
- 59:07Speaker 4: by Kevin Smith, who's actually been kind of... involved with that. He,
- 59:11Speaker 4: I think, was there when they were coming up with
- 59:13Speaker 4: the idea, and he and Scott Mosier have been kind
- 59:16Speaker 4: of on hand for a lot of them, and I
- 59:17Speaker 4: think he hosts the event. So he does the introduction
- 59:20Speaker 4: on the book, and let's see. They bill this as
- 59:23Speaker 4: a hugely popular, critically acclaimed annual Crazy for Cult show
- 59:27Speaker 4: at LA's Gallery 1988. The cream of the pop culture-influenced
- 59:32Speaker 4: art scene come together to celebrate cult movies with art
- 59:35Speaker 4: that is surprising, beautiful, and very, very cool. This is
- 59:38Speaker 4: the quote from the publishers, by the way.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Right, the publisher says it's cool.
- 59:43Speaker 4: Which it actually is. I'm not going to argue with that.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I think it's pretty cool.
- 59:46Speaker 4: It's pretty damn cool, I have to say.
- 59:49Speaker 1: You want it to stand for itself. I'm like, wow,
- 59:51Speaker 1: this is cool without the publisher.
- 59:53Speaker 4: Telling you it is. Well, I feel, you know, they
- 59:55Speaker 4: sent it over. I at least wanted to read what
- 59:57Speaker 4: they say about it and then we'll have our reaction.
- 59:59Speaker 4: But I, you know, I have to agree. It's pretty
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: damn cool. It also says, let's see, featuring a curated
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: selection from the first four years of the show with
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: art inspired by such movies as The Big Lebowski, Edward Scissorhands,
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: Blade Runner, Donnie Darko, Clockwork Orange, Tron, Pulp Fiction, Clerks,
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: and many more, this stunning book showcases why the gallery
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: has thousands of visitors, a million hits on the website,
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: and a huge profile of buyers including Joss Whedon, Judd Apatow,
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: Seth Green, and J.J.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Abrams.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: So, there you go. That's the official rundown on the book,
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: but it is pretty damned interesting, I have to say.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: I like the mixture of styles, which is usually what
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: I like in any show. I've It's one thing when
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: you get a show about one artist, but that's fine.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: You go for that and you support that specific artist.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: But when they do group shows and it all kind
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: of falls into the same category, to me that's always
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: been boring. In any of the shows I ever put together,
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: I tried to find people... from all different styles, but
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: also different mediums. And I really like when they bring
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: in totally different stuff, but all sort of, especially it's
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: interesting when it all centers around the same theme and
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: you get people working, like finding a way to work
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: the style or whatever they work in and then make
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: it fit or, or sort of harnessing it and shoving
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: it into the theme of the show. I always kind
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: of like seeing what people come up with in that situation.
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: One thing I noticed flipping through there quickly is, is
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: a lot of the characters, they've enlarged the size of
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: their eyes. And this is a lot of different artists.
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: And it's almost like more of a theme than movies is.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:39Speaker 6: At just about every page, the characters' eyes are a
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: lot larger. Like I said, it's not the same artist.
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: The only theme is movies, or cult movies, I suppose.
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: And that's one thing you get there. They do that
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: a lot in comic books, too. I'm not a huge
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: comic book connoisseur, but.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: It's definitely anime-tied. I've noticed that a lot, especially in
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: that style of art, the stuff that we're looking at
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: right here. It's a whole movement, almost, in art that
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: has started to center around that. Whether or not it's
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: anything official, it's certainly one artist feeds off another, and
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: it's become its own thing again it crosses over in
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: entirely different styles and everything but it starts to you
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: know you start to see trends that turn up in
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: all different types of art so it's interesting that that's happened.
- 1:02:38Speaker 8: I find it interesting being a photographer and cinema inspires
- 1:02:42Speaker 8: me yeah to just see these other people's takes that
- 1:02:46Speaker 8: what they draw from watching movies and then put it
- 1:02:50Speaker 8: into their artwork yeah.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: You know i mean some of them or an abstraction.
- 1:02:54Speaker 8: Of a scene, or like a particular scene in a movie,
- 1:02:58Speaker 8: but others are just their own take.
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: It would be the same thing they would do normally,
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: but with a different character.
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: You can see that with some of them.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: And I think that part's cool. Like, that's, I wish...
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: the people listening can see that.
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: It does make this more and that's why i just
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: wanted to throw it out there and give you sort
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: of you know the details on it and you know.
- 1:03:18Speaker 8: That one's great i'm sorry too oh the fargo fargo
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: yeah i would put that up that is classic yes
- 1:03:24Speaker 8: i would too we.
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: Were talking about that that moment just the other day
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: me and my son.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: What a great scene yeah in a film.
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: He's like was that just like right when she comes
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: walking up and.
- 1:03:37Speaker 18: She sees him like with He's trying to push the
- 1:03:40Speaker 18: foot into the wood chip.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Great moment.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: And now you have an entire painted piece about that scene.
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: And it's pretty damn impressive.
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: That's one of those moments where when it happens, you think,
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: why hasn't this already happened?
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Why did it take.
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: This long until 96 or whenever that it came up?
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Like the second they made... A wood chipper? There should
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: have been someone.
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: I can't wait to shove this guy in.
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: In honor of Mitch Hedberg, I always have to mention
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: in relation to that scene that.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: A severed foot is the perfect stopping stuffer.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I love Mitch Hedberg.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: He's pretty awesome.
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: But yeah, we won't dwell on it too much because
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: it's a visual thing, so... That was kind of why
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: I wanted to throw it out there, at least to
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: give you sort of the, you know, just clue everybody
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: in that it's out there. So if it sounds like
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: something you're interested in, I mean, it's basically just a
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: lot of different artists doing their take on movies, specifically
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: weird cult movies. That's usually the kind of stuff we
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: talk about in the show anyway. So I thought it
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: was actually a pretty good tie in topic wise, but yeah,
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: it's visual. So you kind of need to go seek
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: it out if you're interested. So again, it is called
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: Crazy for Cult, Cult Movie Art. And, yeah, thank you
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: to Titan Books for letting us know what's out there,
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: and we're passing the word along to you.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you.
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: Go check it out.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Looks like a great blog.
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: All right, so we will take another quick break here,
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: and we will be back with the other missing segment
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: that we've gone quite a while without. So we will
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: be right back.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: To you To you.
- 1:05:44Speaker 7: At our refreshment stand, your wish is our command. So
- 1:05:48Speaker 7: the coffee we serve there is pure perfection.
- 1:05:51Speaker 11: Okay, Carol, now you take these notes, and then we're
- 1:05:54Speaker 11: about ready to begin.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: Okay, sure.
- 1:05:55Speaker 17: Well, what are you two doing here? We don't record
- 1:05:58Speaker 17: until tomorrow.
- 1:05:58Speaker 11: We're making a new promo for All Games Considered, since
- 1:06:01Speaker 11: you were dragging your feet getting one written.
- 1:06:03Speaker 21: Hey, she's right, though. It's been too long, and a
- 1:06:06Speaker 21: lot has happened since the last promo.
- 1:06:08Speaker 11: Yeah, like winning the gold NE for Best Gaming Podcast
- 1:06:10Speaker 11: for 2009.
- 1:06:11Speaker 17: You mean the one you try to work into the
- 1:06:13Speaker 17: conversation every other episode?
- 1:06:14Speaker 21: Hey, now, now, there's more than that. There's the new format.
- 1:06:17Speaker 17: You mean the main show every two weeks and the
- 1:06:19Speaker 17: assortment of other features in the meantime?
- 1:06:21Speaker 21: Right, like games you may never have heard of, the
- 1:06:23Speaker 21: review in new shows.
- 1:06:24Speaker 11: Don't forget the RPG buffet.
- 1:06:26Speaker 17: And on the main show, we have more time to
- 1:06:28Speaker 17: focus on gaming topics.
- 1:06:29Speaker 11: Like board and card games.
- 1:06:30Speaker 21: And RPGs.
- 1:06:31Speaker 17: And the people who play them from the old school
- 1:06:33Speaker 17: to the newest of the new. But no changeling.
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: Hey!
- 1:06:38Speaker 17: Find out more at agcpodcast.info All games considered, because there's
- 1:06:43Speaker 17: more than one true way to play.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: What's up?
- 1:06:50Speaker 14: It's Brian again.
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: Just here to tell you it's coming up on one
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: of our favorite times of year here at Movie Meltdown.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: It's coming up on the Fright Night Film Fest. This
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: will be the seventh annual Fright Night Film Fest. But
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: not only that. This year also kicks off Fandom Fest.
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: an entire second convention of geek and pop culture. But wait,
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: you get both awesome shows for the same low price.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: Now this is no longer just a convention that caters
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: to horror geeks, but it crosses over into a whole
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: new realm where fantasy and sci-fi lovers, as well as
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: comic book collectors, general film lovers, can hang out with gamers, authors,
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: and artists of all types. It's like Geek Valhalla, only
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: you don't have to die to get there, you just
- 1:07:31Speaker 4: have to get your tickets now. Now the main guest...
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: The legend himself, director John Carpenter. Amazing. One of the
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: most influential directors of our time. Not only that, this
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: list of guests goes on. We've got the Fonz himself,
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: Henry Winkler. That is so awesome. Also, Margot Kidder, Tiffany Shephus,
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: Larry Drake, Jeremy Bullock, Tony Moore and the Stars of
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: The Walking Dead. The Stars of Enter the Dragon. Bruce
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: Lee not included. A Karate Kid Cobra Kai reunion. And
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: give us a Revenge of the Nerds reunion. Seriously. Featuring
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: Robert Carradine, Larry B. Scott, Curtis Armstrong, and if booger
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: bean there wasn't enough, Donald Gibb. Ogre, ladies and gentlemen,
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: will be there. There's so many others. I mean, the
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: stars of American Graffiti, Jaws, Phantasm, so many other stars.
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: You'll just have to go look at the list. It's
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: ridiculous how many stars are there. Plus, again, we cross
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: over into all the other activities that are added this year.
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: You've got literary guests and gaming guests and artists. There'll
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: be seminars and workshops going on, movies the entire weekend,
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: live music, a masquerade ball, and the now infamous Georgetown
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: Drive-In event. plus an appearance from your friends at Movie Meltdown.
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: And isn't that really the most impressive thing? And it's
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: all going on July 22nd through the 24th in Louisville, Kentucky.
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: So get your tickets now. You can go to Fright
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: Night Film. or the site for the new convention, Fandom Fest.
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: That's F-A-N-D-O-M-F-E-S-T dot com. It's going to be one hell
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: of a weekend. The Fright Night Film Fest is my
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: favorite film festival.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Hands down.
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: You haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: answered in the movies.
- 1:09:24Speaker 14: And now, on with the show.
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: I scream your name.
- 1:09:26Speaker 7: It always stays the same.
- 1:09:28Speaker 9: I scream your shadow. So what I'm gonna do now
- 1:09:43Speaker 9: is freak the freak out.
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: Hey!
- 1:09:46Speaker 22: Whoa! You just went to Florence.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: You should be inspired.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: I wasn't.
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: It's just penises and pretty faces everywhere.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: Like, it's a public service announcement. What are they trying
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: to tell me?
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: Penises go with pretty faces, I guess.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: And then every time, this one building, like, every time
- 1:10:19Speaker 5: I went around the landing of the stairwell, there's a
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: bust of the chick with the one boob plopped out.
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: And it's kind of whiter than the rest of the sculpture.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: Like, people rub it as they.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: Go by for luck.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: I don't know, but that's what I did.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure.
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: I'm just waiting for the, yeah, I'd be wondering if
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: the person would, like, put, like, a sticker nipple on
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: it or something like that.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: That would be... I'm using sticker nibbles.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: I just like saying that.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: That's a fun word to say that rolls off the tongue.
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: All right, we're back. And it is time for a
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: return to the almost forgotten by most people movie fan
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: freak show. Greetings, carnival robes. Step right up and meet
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: the freaks. Now this, if, if, Again, it's been a while,
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: so I'll refresh your memory if you haven't been here
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: for the older ones. But there's a very distinct difference.
- 1:11:18Speaker 4: We on this show certainly fall into the category of
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: movie geek. And there's a big difference in my mind
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: of a movie geek and a movie freak. And the
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: people we usually go into on this level are just
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: strange and weird. The fact that they're drawn to the
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: movies is usually equally as weird or just some anomaly
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: as to why you can't figure out some of the
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: basics at this point. So sometimes you just go with
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: it and you're just awed by the weirdness of these people.
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: So we've definitely done a few classics in the past,
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: but I thought we would do another session today and
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: throw a few out there. Let's see. Do we want
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: the visual.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: First or afterwards?
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: How do you guys... Because we've done artist renderings of them,
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: but I also like the idea of you guys listening
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: to the story yourselves and then doing your own version.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: I kind of want these people to be like, you know,
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: Bigfoot sightings or alien meetups. I mean, I want everybody
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: to sort of have their own take on them out there.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: I vote yes.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: We can wait until I've told the tale and then
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: you can see what you think, but... Either way, I mean,
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: I guess you can run into these kind of people
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: anywhere out there in the world. And sometimes you do,
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: and it may not tie to movies. Now, the movie
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: tie-in is a hell of a lot easier when you
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: work around movies. So with, you know, at least Greg
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: and myself, we both fell into that category for a
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: while there. And that's where a good portion of mine
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: came from, was being not only, you know, seeing these people,
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: but then having to deal with them on a professional level,
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: if we were ever professionals. But then you kind of
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: have to make nice with them and play along with
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: their crazy behavior. So some of the other ones are crazy.
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: This one's a little more creepy. Now, originally I was
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: just going to go with Jeffrey for this one. But
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: I decided that's not accurate enough. Because like every good
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: serial killer or loner assassin, he has three names. And,
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: you know, he always went by three names. He would
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: special order things with us, and he would always be
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: by the three names. He always went with the three names.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: So to me, it always felt that way. So now
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: with all of these, I feel we should at least
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: sort of minorly adjust the details so as to not
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: out these people as, you know, we don't necessarily have
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: to slander them by names. We just want to tell
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: the crazy tale. So I'll adjust it and I'll refer
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: to him as Jeffrey Lee Miller.
- 1:13:51Speaker 6: How did I know you were going to go with Lee?
- 1:13:53Speaker 6: That's like the serial killer middle name.
- 1:13:56Speaker 3: Actually, I think it's Wayne. I think Wayne is official
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: serial killer material.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: It wasn't even killer.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: It's in the ballpark though.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: That's more like an assassin.
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: It came from actually Johnny Lee Miller. So no offense
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: to Johnny Lee Miller. I was just looking for a
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: good three name and that just worked pretty well. So
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: No offense to Johnny, or if your name happens to
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: actually be Jeffrey Lee Miller, just know that that's not
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: actually this person's name, and I'm not talking about you.
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: So this is just a nice little name I've come
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: up with to give him some sort of identity. But really,
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: I don't think by the end of this story you're
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: going to feel sorry for him. Anyway, you'll be a
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: little creeped out by him. So we'll refer to him
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: as Jeffrey Lee Miller. Now, this, and again, I'm giving
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: these descriptions based on back in the day, so that
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: the age is probably massively off by now, but just
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: to give you the idea of what we had to
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: look at at the time, he's probably in his early
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: to mid-30s. He has dark black curly hair that sticks
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: way up off the top of his head, Kramer style.
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: He wears thick black room glasses, pants that come up
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: way past his waist, A dress shirt. This is always...
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: This is like a uniform. Pants up high, a dress shirt,
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: and rainbow suspenders. Yeah, like Mork used to wear. This
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: was his.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: This was a while ago, so it actually didn't even
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: have that extra meaning. Because now I would just assume
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: maybe he was just advertising something else in his life.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: But this was a while ago when really people weren't
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: even using that to mean that type of lifestyle, so...
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: He was just weird. It was more of a Mork reference,
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: I think. It was more that he was just a
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: weirdo at the time, because this was quite a while
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: ago when I used to have these interactions with this character. So, yeah,
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: this was at a video store, a corporate-run video store.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: We won't go into the name, especially since they're gone.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: They're bankrupt, so I don't even feel the need to
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: bring them up. But, yeah, he's the kind of guy,
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: and Greg, you'll know this one, and probably anybody who's
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: ever worked retail, The kind of guy who comes in
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: five minutes before you're supposed to close and wants to
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: look around for hours if you'll go along with it.
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: He'll pretend like he has no idea that you're like
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: turning off lights and vacuuming around his feet and like,
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: you know, closing the door and you name it. He's
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: just oblivious to all of it going on. And that
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: just became his thing. He would stay there way past
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: time that he should already be gone. Everybody else should
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: have been home 15, 20 minutes ago. He's still in
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: there loitering around. And then he wanders out without buying
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: a damn thing. He would do this pretty much every time.
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: That became his M.O. He would come in. stand around
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: 20 minutes after you're supposed to be done, and then
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: walk out. And just not even bother. Not even be like, oops, sorry,
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: I didn't know you were getting... No, don't even bother.
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: Just freak of nature. So then he changed his routine,
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: and he started coming in first thing in the morning.
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: That's an equally annoying group of people. The people that
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: are waiting at the gate in the morning when you're...
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: You know it's never good. They either have to return
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: something immediately... or they just are a freak and they
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: want to, you know, have some sort of interaction with
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: you when you have nobody else there to distract you
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: that you, you can't escape basically.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: They know you're going to be there for hours.
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: So that's more of what this was, I believe, because
- 1:17:28Speaker 4: then at night he would just come in and loiter,
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: but in the mornings he wanted to talk. This was trouble.
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: He wanted to, he would come over and just ramble
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: for hours and, would tell you about who was a
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: bit player in this movie and what year this movie
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: came out in the 50s. And the one specifically, he
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: told me, and he might have told me more than once,
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: he was pretty pleased with this one, that John Wayne
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: was in Ben-Hur as an extra. Now, I looked it up.
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: That's actually true. He did do work, and he's got
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: such a minor role in it that they refer to
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: him as an extra. But, buddy, who cares?
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: I'm just like.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: It's one thing if you have a good rapport with
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: these people and you can actually get along with them
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: and you actually are involved in the conversations. But, Greg,
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: you dealt with a lot of these people. I mean,
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: there's some people you tolerate because you have to. And
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: this guy, I think he was aware of that. And
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: sometimes they do know it and they start to bank
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: on that because these are the only people they can
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: talk to or the ones that have to put up
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: with them all day. So, yeah, at this point he's
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: just kind of an annoying character, but He gets a
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: little creepier. He also has the tendency to become infatuated
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: with girls that work in video stores. There were at
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: least two that I know of that he kind of
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: did this to, but.
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: He sort of, um, I would hear stories about him
- 1:18:52Speaker 4: sort of latching on to different women at different stores,
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: some of, like, entirely other chains, like rental stores across
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: town that also had stories about this character. So, um,
- 1:19:04Speaker 4: but the one I heard firsthand was from one of
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: my former managers, and, um, It seems that he had
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: been quite infatuated with her, and she was an attractive girl,
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: so he kept coming in and talking to her, much
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: to her dismay. And his big finale, as it were,
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: he came in one day, stood in front of the counter,
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: and did a song and dance. It was entitled The
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: Buffalo Song.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: Banana Cherry Buffalo's Dance?
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: No.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: That would have been awesome. No, it wouldn't. No.
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: No. Yeah, so I mean, for years after that, the
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: Buffalo song sort of lived in infamy around this horrible,
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: horrible character. Yeah, song and dance to this poor girl
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: working behind the counter by herself, I'm assuming, because I'm
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: sure he went in in the morning when he could
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: corner her and creep her out a little more. But yeah,
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: to wrap it up, even at the time, he didn't
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: go into the mall anymore because, well, he was banned
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: from the mall. He was escorted from the mall by
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: security after asking some 12-year-old girls if he could touch
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: their legs.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: There you go.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: That's the kind of guy he was.
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: This is the kind of guy Jeffrey was. Creepy as
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: the day is long. So, for my rendering... Have you
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: got a good image yourself of.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: I can't get Kramer out of my head, so unfortunately...
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: He's pretty.
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: Yeah, but I mean, it's pretty close on the hair.
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: I had to use that as a good reference to
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: kind of give everybody just what you're dealing with, and
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: mine's still a little off, but it's pretty damn funny
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: as far as I'm concerned. So here's what I came
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: up with on my version of it. I know that guy.
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: My grade school version of character rendering. Yeah, this is
- 1:20:49Speaker 4: what I came up with. I was a little like.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: I like the sallow cheekbones.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: Looks a little like Christopher Walken.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: He was a tall, lanky motherfucker, and he had this, like,
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: sunken-in kind of face, and yet still scruffy and never
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: really seemed like he had his shit together, and the
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: hair was always a mess. And just, yeah, he's a
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: scary guy.
- 1:21:11Speaker 6: Scary character I like how the inseam is over half
- 1:21:14Speaker 6: of his body it's like the inseam's gotta go up
- 1:21:19Speaker 6: to his.
- 1:21:19Speaker 4: Navel and I can't remember if he had the high
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: waters but I had to put him on there because
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure he did actually the more I thought
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: about it I was like yeah I'm pretty sure I
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: saw more of his socks than I ever ever needed
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: to see so yeah that would be Jeffrey I.
- 1:21:34Speaker 8: Just have to say Christopher Walken is an idol of
- 1:21:36Speaker 8: mine so no offense to be taken by Mr.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: Walken He could play a creepy pedophile pretty easily.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: I think he'd do it well.
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: Didn't he?
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: Somewhere?
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: Just in the real world? We don't know.
- 1:21:52Speaker 5: He was some guy in a movie based on a
- 1:21:55Speaker 5: Harold Pinter play, and he came off that way. He
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: just seemed like he kept wearing this light-colored suit. And
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: I remember one reviewer said, he gave you the impression
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: he was wearing something really strange under his pants.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: Aren't we all?
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: So yeah, that was my entry. We'll add it into
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: the logbook here. I've been trying to catalog them, almost
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: like a wilderness show, tagging them, and I don't really
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: want to release them back into the wild, but they're
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: out there. So I feel like, you know, as a
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: warning to people, just knowing that they're out there and And,
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: you know, again, we get these bad little drawings. So
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: you can be like, well, that kind of looks.
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: Like that one.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: They can be like, post office.
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's kind of like that.
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: Have you seen this?
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: Have you seen this bastard? Yeah. So that was my entry, Mr.
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: Jeffrey Lee Miller. Fred, did you have one?
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: I had one. It's kind of more benign.
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: I've worked in this place that shall not be named.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: We can call it the Ninth Circle.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: And we had this thing, just to get through the day,
- 1:23:02Speaker 5: where we were constantly writing the movie of where we were.
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: And we were always talking about who would play us
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: and who would play other people.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: And it was the ongoing.
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: And we actually developed a script at some point. We
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: had like a story line. And then we decided, no,
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: it's bigger than that. This will be the movie.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: In the movie that we're always talking about.
- 1:23:30Speaker 5: And that's what we would do, but the actual movie
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: will just encapsulate that.
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: This is an elaborate plot.
- 1:23:35Speaker 5: Yeah, and it was really where we worked, all the
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: customers that came in and stuff.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: It was like a parade of freaks.
- 1:23:43Speaker 5: And when the movie Best in Show came out, we thought,
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: you know, this could work. This could actually happen. Because
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: it was like that. It's all these characters. Some of
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: the characters almost were the people we dealt with.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: So that's what we had going for a while.
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: And we were all talking about movies and we liked
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: some different things. But then there was this one guy
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: who started working for a while.
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: And I'm noticing that this guy comes up every time
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: in one way or another. But he looked, he really
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: looked kind of a lot like Steve Zahn. Except he
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: had dark hair.
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: Just sort of dark headed. But he had that sort
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: of like dopey grin.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: And like a little extra kink in the corner of
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: his mouth or something. And I tried to draw it,
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: but I can't get it. I could almost have carved
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: it into a pumpkin if I had time.
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: If you want. By the time I get this up,
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: if you want to get the pumpkin done, I can
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: post the photo for the pumpkin.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: He was a really good guy, and he was good
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: to work with.
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: In all ways, except you just couldn't find any way
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: to relate to it. You know, we'd be talking and,
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: you know, making references to this.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: And he was always in this sort of good mood.
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: Like, yeah, well, that sounds interesting. Yeah, but I guess
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: I've never seen that movie. Sounds like I ought to
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: look that up.
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: And we'd be like... Yeah, it's called The Godfather. Sure,
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: you ought to check that out.
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: It might be hard to come by. It's an obscure
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: little film.
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: And after a while we'd be asking each other, did you.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: Talk to this guy?
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: And I don't know what to call him because I'd
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: want to change his name. He was a really nice guy.
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: But I can't because I don't remember his name. And
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: any name I pick might be his name. Eduardo. So
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: I'm going to call him Tiffany. I'm pretty sure his.
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: Name wasn't Tiffany. All right.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: Or you could call him Steve's arm.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: I could call him Steve.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: Steve really would fit him.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: I mean, yeah.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: Maybe it really was Steve's arm.
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: So, yeah, we'd try to just all the time we'd
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: be talking about, but no. Never really heard of that.
- 1:26:04Speaker 2: It's like.
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: What?
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: You mean Jaws? Like a movie about a shark?
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: It's really cool.
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: It has this theme and.
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: No.
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: No, I guess I missed that one. And we're all just.
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: After a while, we started to be mystified by it.
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: And it was more like almost supernatural. Like he was
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: raised in a closet or something.
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: Um.
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: And about that time, I read an article about this
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: girl that was actually raised in a closet, and she
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: developed no language.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: And then all the psychologists descended on her to study her,
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: because when do you get an opportunity to study that?
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: And then they were all, you know, like, after doing
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: their dissertation on her, and then when they were done.
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: With her, they, like, abandoned her.
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: I get it. Yeah.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: Like science does.
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: Although they had all had conferences to... be careful about
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: these ethical issues, and they all knew what they were doing,
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: and they still did the wrong thing. It was just
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: so sad.
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: And I thought, maybe this guy, I mean, he has language,
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: he can talk, he seems like, he just has no, like,
- 1:27:10Speaker 5: sense of culture.
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: I mean, my parents didn't have a.
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: Lot of pop culture.
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: They didn't, you know, they didn't really keep up.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: But they knew, you.
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: Know... the stuff they knew. This guy, nobody could figure
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: out just how do you get a conversation going? Where
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: do you find an opening?
- 1:27:29Speaker 5: It was even stranger than the one guy we worked
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: with who had a DVD player that would only play.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: Movies with a certain actress in it. I forget her
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: last name. Skye something.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Iona Skye? Yeah.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: It would only play DVDs. And even if they were pirated,
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: it would.
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: Any movie she was in, it would play that, and
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: it wouldn't play anything else.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: That's limiting your options, because she kind of quit working
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: for a while.
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but it was a fascinating electronic phenomenon. So we
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: thought that was weird, but then this guy came along,
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: and we're like.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: We're into a whole new zone now.
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: This is just beyond.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: The strange and unusual.
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: And then one day, one of the guys was going
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: somewhere with him to.
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: do a job or something. We were professional killers back then.
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: Is this the movie inside the movie?
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: This is the story inside the story.
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: I'm still stuck on that.
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: Well, they were.
- 1:28:28Speaker 5: Driving somewhere, getting into character, and they pass a billboard
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: along the road for Sinbad, who's going to be appearing
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: at the comedy club or something.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: Not the podcast.
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: And this guy goes off he.
- 1:28:42Speaker 12: Goes oh that guy man that guy is.
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: So funny he was in this movie I've seen all
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: his movies.
- 1:28:50Speaker 19: Man every one of his movies and he starts like
- 1:28:53Speaker 19: telling them he starts telling them like oral history of
- 1:28:58Speaker 19: Sinbad movies And that was his culture.
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: That was the only thing we ever found that he
- 1:29:05Speaker 5: knew and could refer to. And he could just tell
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: them from start to finish. And I'm not really that
- 1:29:12Speaker 5: familiar with Sinbad's movies. But the guy who came.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: Back, he says, man, I've got to tell you what happened.
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: This guy is like Sinbad's biggest fan. Maybe his only fan.
- 1:29:25Speaker 8: Did he also dress in nylon? Did he wear the
- 1:29:27Speaker 8: running jacket and the.
- 1:29:29Speaker 23: no he was just a t-shirt and a windbreaker and
- 1:29:36Speaker 23: he looked like an ordinary guy but he had this
- 1:29:38Speaker 23: thing where he had never connected with the culture of
- 1:29:42Speaker 23: North America or the world the western.
- 1:29:46Speaker 16: World except for Sinbad that was the one thing and
- 1:29:50Speaker 16: eventually you know he quit or went somewhere but this
- 1:29:56Speaker 16: guy is.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: Still out there yeah walking around walking the streets.
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: You're wondering why they're earning new sin bad news yeah yeah.
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: And you wouldn't know to look at him it's just
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: you know you'd be next to him in a store
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: somewhere it's like it's a regular guy walking around but
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: no no it's a guy who like i don't know.
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: Live in fear ladies and gentlemen yeah i don't know
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: how to describe i tried to draw him but Then
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: it's like, well, then I've got to draw Steve Zahn.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: Kind of, yeah.
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: You can just get a picture.
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: Of Steve Zahn and darken his hair.
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: But he always had this kind of like, something like that.
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: That kind of works, actually, yeah. So I want to
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: hold it up and do the voice. Oh, that sounds
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: pretty cool. Yeah, no, I never saw that.
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: Huh, you say it's called Star Wars, huh?
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: Star what?
- 1:30:52Speaker 4: Is that about celebrities or something?
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: It sounds pretty cool. I'll have to watch that sometime,
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: And that's the guy. And now I see him sitting
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: at home, watching House Guest, doing those hand motions, probably.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: Or watching A Different World.
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: I don't think I really got it.
- 1:31:10Speaker 19: It looks a little like Brandon or something.
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: It's not quite right, but yeah, that's the look in
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: the eye.
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: I sort of got the eyes.
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: And they're kind of dead, too.
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: Well, I'll go on record as saying, while he doesn't
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: have a stellar film career... I'm still pretty pleased with
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: the stand-up career of Sinbad.
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:31:34Speaker 7: Sure. Right.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: But it's like one of those things, like, who would
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: be a fan of his movies?
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: Nobody.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: Nobody is a fan of his... And this guy, that's like.
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: That was his thing. Like, he didn't even reference that
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: he was ever stand-up. No.
- 1:31:48Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: Oh, he does stand-up, too?
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: He was in that movie... Oh, man.
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: I couldn't name a Sinbad movie, I don't think.
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: He missed the chance at Kazam. How did Shaquille O'Neal get.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: The role over Sinbad in Kazam?
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: Your name's Sinbad. Oh, the tiny dude is over.
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: You know, I worked with a guy, and this isn't
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: really a movie reference. I could do a whole episode
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: on This is a True Freak. Yeah, this man spent $ 19, 000
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: on a wife from Nigeria that never arrived.
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: And it was months that he kept sending money, and
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: she was going to bring the millions.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: This is the big fish that they go for, $ 19, 000.
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: And he said at one point, This is the second
- 1:32:40Speaker 6: time this has happened.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: I'm going to have to stop. That's how bad this is.
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: I've got stories that could go on for days about
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: this man. But I see him on his computer. His
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: computer's in front of mine.
- 1:32:51Speaker 6: And he spends four hours, not getting in trouble, looking
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: up pictures of Julia Delpy.
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: Is that her name? Julia Delpy, I believe. French actress?
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: Yeah, and he looks up an hour's worth of looking
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: at pictures of her feet. And reading all the Wikipedia
- 1:33:11Speaker 6: stuff and all this information. And so we fuck with
- 1:33:16Speaker 6: him sometimes.
- 1:33:17Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: And I'm always very nice to him.
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: But I want to get inside his mind and figure
- 1:33:22Speaker 6: out what's going on.
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: That's how you do it. You lure him in. You
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: befriend him. And then you stick it to him.
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: And so I ask him, I say, so you were
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: looking at Julie Delpy's stuff all day.
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: I said, yeah.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: What do you think of her?
- 1:33:36Speaker 6: And he goes, oh, I just, she's a wonderful, beautiful woman.
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: I am just in love with her mind.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: And I'm like, wow. Okay, great.
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: He's committed.
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: But that's, that's great.
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: This guy's about 60 and creepy.
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: I just, um, Jeffrey level of crazy.
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: This, this is like the serial killer that could kill
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: you with the bacteria on his arm.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: That kind of serious, that kind of creepy. All right.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: And I started asking him about it. I said, oh,
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: I really love movies. I started asking him about it. Well,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: I don't remember what movie she's been in. And he goes,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: she's in movies? Like just totally.
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: Oblivious to the fact that this woman he's been looking
- 1:34:17Speaker 6: at for hours is in movies.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: And he goes, I'll have to check those out. And
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: that's why your story reminded me of it.
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: This guy's dad.
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: No, this guy's never had any trouble, because no woman's
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: ever been with this man.
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: Yeah, he can't even.
- 1:34:33Speaker 19: Pay $ 19, 000 to get a woman.
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: Yeah, this man would look at pictures of, he'd look
- 1:34:41Speaker 6: at webcams from nude beaches.
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: Oh, that's... That's the kind of guy.
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: When you can see anything you want.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: In the world, but you want to be a creepy dude.
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: At a new speed.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: That's what you're choosing.
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: That's a special kind of guy. You've got to give
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: him credit.
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: He's a special kind of creepy.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: I wouldn't want to be alone with him ever.
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: He was completely oblivious that she was even an actress.
- 1:35:12Speaker 6: He loves Hermione, but has no idea that she's an actress.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: Where did he even get the information that she existed?
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: How do you read pages and pages about her?
- 1:35:24Speaker 6: Did he see her on a nude beach somewhere and
- 1:35:27Speaker 6: fall in love with Hermione?
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, she is French.
- 1:35:31Speaker 2: She could easily be nude on a beach.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: Right now.
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: But there were two other guys that were with me,
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: and we just kind of looked at each other for
- 1:35:40Speaker 6: several minutes.
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: Like, I can't believe.
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: That just happened.
- 1:35:44Speaker 6: What was the Ethan Hawke romantic?
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: I was just thinking, I was waiting for him to
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: be like, wait, so before Sunrise it's coming?
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: Yeah, before Sunrise.
- 1:35:52Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: Because one of the other guys said, weren't there two
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: or three of those movies?
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: There's a sequel years later.
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:35:57Speaker 17: Okay.
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: Well, yeah, one of the guys, Brent, he brought those up,
- 1:36:01Speaker 6: and he said, oh, yeah, she's the main role other
- 1:36:04Speaker 6: than Ethan Hawke in these movies.
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: You need to check them out. No clue.
- 1:36:09Speaker 7: No clue.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: And the next day, he had seen both of them.
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: He had watched them 17 times.
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: Creep.
- 1:36:17Speaker 14: Wow.
- 1:36:18Speaker 5: But, you know, I'm going to take up a little
- 1:36:21Speaker 5: bit for the creeps of the world.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: If they're harmless.
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: You know, if he's just looking at pictures on the internet.
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: I would certainly fall into that category. So I'm not totally,
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: you know, I just, it's the level of creepiness. And
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: that's what I've always said about these people. It's not
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: the weird awkwardness, because that I understand. That I identify with.
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: It's the being so out of touch with reality to
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: realize that you're creeping other people out. That you don't
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: have that boundary. That you don't have the social awareness
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: to be able to go... Maybe I should not sing
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: this song about a buffalo to this girl. Maybe that's
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: crossing the line.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: This guy didn't wash.
- 1:37:06Speaker 6: Within days of working there, the floor, the laminate floor
- 1:37:10Speaker 6: was black from dirt.
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: Just the most disgusting. And it was at a place
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: where you pretty much can't be fired. So it was.
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: I might have to ask you about that place later.
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: I think we all might need some more time.
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: But I guess the thing that came up for me recently,
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: I was thinking about Dante's because I was like, my
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: sister was telling.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: Me this story about places I might.
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: Want to go and see, and she said, well, and there's,
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: you know, Dante's house is nearby, and there's this place
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: where he saw this girl Beatrice when he was nine,
- 1:37:47Speaker 5: and he just became obsessed with her, and I didn't
- 1:37:50Speaker 5: really know much about him, but I'm like, well, that's cool,
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: but that's like this historically remembered thing was.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: A nine-year-old having a crush on a girl.
- 1:38:01Speaker 5: And then you know then there are all these ideas
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: about courtly love and how it's an admiration that's blah.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: Blah blah He's like, no, it was a crush. These
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: were human beings. I know about this.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: Or it was a creepy obsession.
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: Well, it kind of was.
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: We all have those.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: It kind of was. But he wrote about it, you know,
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: and he didn't really write about her looks. And that
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: doesn't convince me because, I mean, he didn't know her.
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: No.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: They both married different people. but he carried this thing
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: with him, and, like, he admired her courtesy.
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: That's equally as weird as her feet.
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: Well, yeah, I mean, he has to say what he can.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: Say about it, I guess, but... Like, years later, he
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: saw her on the street.
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: She was walking with two older women dressed in white,
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: and she waved to him.
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: Check out the courtesy on her.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: She also blew his mind.
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: Yeah, and then, you know, she died when she was 24,
- 1:39:02Speaker 5: and it just tore him to pieces.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: He didn't know her. He never had to live with her.
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: He never had to, like, make decisions that involved her
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: in any way. But he just got this weird obsession
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: thing in his head. And it changed him. And the
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: idea is maybe it changed him for the better, but
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: I think it's almost worse like that. Because if you
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: live with somebody, if you actually deal with them in
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: the real world, you start to go, oh, they're just
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: kind of a person. They're not this idealized thing. You
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: don't have this perfect image of them and this perfect
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: love for them because they screw that up. Because you
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: see all the shortcomings and you see the the day-to-day
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: version of them that isn't this shiny, idealized thing. It
- 1:39:49Speaker 4: becomes a real person. And I think that's probably harder
- 1:39:52Speaker 4: to part with is the idea of losing that ideal
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: love instead of this, you know. Granted, it's harder to
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: lose a real person because you're actually attached to them.
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: But I think the idea of it is probably worse
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: the other way because you're losing so much more In
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: the ideal sense. Again, not the personal connection sense, but
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: your brain, who is probably messed up anyway, or you
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: wouldn't be idealizing this person you don't know anything about.
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: I think it is one of those that's probably harder
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: to deal with, especially for somebody in that state of mind.
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: Well, you know, those childhood obsessions, that person is dehumanized.
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: Yeah. They're really not really human. And the fact that
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: they die... Yeah.
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: It almost.
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: It's almost that transcendence moment. Either you're one realizing that, well,
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: they're dead and they were real.
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: Or now it's... They're more than alive.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's the thing that's crazy.
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: I mean, it would be so easy to just say,
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: fuck it, let it go and get over it. But
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: he held on to whatever this thing he thought she
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: was or meant. And... tried to make it like a
- 1:41:09Speaker 5: part of him, and I don't know anything about his art.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: I mean, I've heard things, but I've never read Dante.
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: My kids have read him, but I've.
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: Never read him.
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: I thought he just worked at the Quick Stop.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: I just thought it was like an interesting thing, because
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: it just connects to so many things in terms of,
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: you know, film images.
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: Yeah, it's how we attach ourselves to people even if
- 1:41:37Speaker 4: they're not real even if they're joey dopey but yeah
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: i mean it is it's kind of how we deal
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: with it and that's that's the part that i think
- 1:41:45Speaker 4: is weird is like you know normal people just go
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: oh i like that person but you you get these
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: other people and i'm not saying i haven't skated that
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: line before but i'm there there becomes me.
- 1:41:56Speaker 5: And everybody like yeah there's no point in experiencing fiction.
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: Unless you're going to indulge in some.
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: And, you know, attach yourself to the characters. And sometimes
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: the real life version of them, you know, you find
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: the actors. But it's these people that, yeah, that don't
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: understand the difference almost. It's not even like they're knowingly
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: doing this. It's that they really almost live in this
- 1:42:19Speaker 4: world where they don't understand the difference. You know, like
- 1:42:22Speaker 4: he really thought he was, you know, he had a
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: shot with Julie. Probably. Or this, you know, this guy
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: who doesn't understand that the girl on the other side
- 1:42:29Speaker 4: of the counter is totally creeped out by him. And
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: it's like You know, at least I still exist in
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: that world where I'm like, no, she doesn't want anything
- 1:42:38Speaker 4: to do with me. I'm moving on. Whereas he is
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: oblivious to that and continues on with this like, oh,
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: my God, she's so perfect. I'm like, yeah, but she's
- 1:42:46Speaker 4: also weirded out by you, freak. Move on. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: that's the part that kind of fascinates me about these people.
- 1:42:54Speaker 4: It's not just the freak show stories, which, granted, those
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: are fun. But it is that that's usually the dividing
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: line with most of them is the fact that they
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: don't know the difference. They don't have that barrier.
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: They're so caught up in their narcissistic fantasy.
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: It's something that they don't notice the world around them.
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: The real world.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: They exist in their own little freak world and it's... Ah, yeah.
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: So I think it's interesting to talk about these people.
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: Number one, because we like to make.
- 1:43:20Speaker 14: Fun of them.
- 1:43:21Speaker 4: Yeah, we're jerks. We'll admit to it, I would hope.
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: But I don't know. I think there is something... to
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: look at. There is almost a weird psychological thing that
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: you can kind of start to break down and hopefully
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: not figure out, because I think once you figure it out,
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: you're in the mind of that. I think that's the
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: only way to truly understand it, is once you've crossed
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: over into their world. I have one foot in there,
- 1:43:42Speaker 4: but I don't want to.
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: Go there yet.
- 1:43:43Speaker 4: Oh, Lord. So I think that more than rounds out
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: our freak show session here. We will definitely add at
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: least a couple of those into the vault there, but
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: we might have to throw at least yours in, Greg.
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: I mean, it is movie-related, kind of. He didn't know
- 1:44:00Speaker 4: it was, but it's certainly, to me, as you're looking
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: at her, yeah, we might have to work him in,
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: so you'll have to start sketching.
- 1:44:06Speaker 6: I know people that have drawn this guy.
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: Okay, get a hold of him. Oh, Lord.
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: So, yeah, with that, we'll escape from the freaks, I suppose. Well,
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: you're left with these freaks, but we'll get away from
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: those stories. Just to round it out, we won't have
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: a full-on feedback, but I did have one that I
- 1:44:27Speaker 4: was going to pass along, sort of. These are short
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: because they're Twitter-related, so you don't get much out of that.
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: There was one I brought up last week to you, Greg,
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: and I said, and these are from Equal Opportunity Dork,
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: which you may know as the internet personality formerly known
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: as Eskimo. And, yeah, he was mentioning, and this is
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: something I've wondered how people were taking it. In a way,
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: I kind of don't care because this is the way
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: I like the show to be. But, I mean, we
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: are all over the map. We've got shows that are
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: different people. We've got shows at different places. We've got
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: some we talk about news. Sometimes we do a whole
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: session on a movie. So, I mean, it's like we
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: do a lot of different stuff. And he sent me
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: one that was like, He's like, I haven't mentioned this,
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: but I really like the fact that I kind of
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: don't know what I'm going to get, that I open
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: it up and I can't tell. I wrote him back.
- 1:45:15Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, it's kind of like a carnival wheel.
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: You spin the wheel, and this week you get some
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: sort of movie geek-related activity, and you don't know what
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: it's going to be, but hopefully it's pretty awesome. I
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: kind of like that. I like that, but he ended
- 1:45:31Speaker 4: it with, he said, it's kind of an exciting experience
- 1:45:33Speaker 4: each week, especially if it's a coffee shop episode.
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: And I mentioned that to you and you, and you
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: said it was probably the Fred factor. So we decided, okay,
- 1:45:42Speaker 4: it's probably the Fred factor. And then the more I
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: thought about it. Oh yeah.
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: You're getting a little fan club. We know.
- 1:45:48Speaker 22: Cool.
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: Well, and that's the thing.
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: The first time I heard like some good response from somebody,
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: I just like, I didn't even know what to say.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: Well then, yeah.
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: So then I started thinking back. I was like, I
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: think he did specifically mention him like a while back.
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: So I went back.
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: It was like two months ago. I pulled one up
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: and it says, uh, It's just a post. Once again,
- 1:46:07Speaker 4: you get one sentence there. So it says, I kind
- 1:46:09Speaker 4: of want Fred on the show more. He says amazing shit.
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: That's the best review I've ever got for anything in
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: my life.
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: There you go.
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: I'm going to get that on a shirt.
- 1:46:21Speaker 5: Says amazing shit.
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: I was going to get one for Father's Day. They
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: didn't do it.
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: I told my family to get me a shirt that
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: on the back it would say, don't encourage him.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: That's pretty awesome. You know, you could put that on
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: your resume, though.
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: Yeah, sesame. Sesame and shit.
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: And it was a review.
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: Yes, I thought, you know, these are very short versions,
- 1:46:46Speaker 4: but I thought it needed to be passed along, Fred.
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: You're getting your own fan club.
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: So awesome.
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: All right. Well, I guess we can start rounding it out. Okay, kids,
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: get out your decoder pins.
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: Somebody.
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: Nobody else is going to do it.
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: I'm just getting out my decoder bag. Set your pins
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: to V2. Here is the message.
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: I like doing it to people who have no idea
- 1:47:09Speaker 4: what I'm talking about and waiting for them to do it.
- 1:47:11Speaker 8: I'm still wondering if we're making a movie inside of
- 1:47:13Speaker 8: a movie right now.
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: It's a podcast inside of a podcast. Oh, no, wait.
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: We did that last week.
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: When does the ice cream social start?
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: Oh, podcast within a podcast. All right, kids, it is
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: time for the Movie Meltdown Secret Circle reveal of actually
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: two exciting upcoming features, possibly several weeks worth here. Because
- 1:47:35Speaker 4: I was looking at the calendar, and we've got most
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: of this month is already kind of mapped out, so
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: we know some stuff going on. So next week, once again,
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: you spin the wheel, you don't know what you're going
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: to get. Next week, road trip again. We are back
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: on the road. We are heading to Indianapolis for the
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: Days of the Dead conventions. This is actually the first
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: time they're doing this one, so it will be interesting
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: to see what they've put together. But so far online,
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: it looks kind of impressive. So we'll have to see
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: what they've put together at Days of the Dead. Hopefully,
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: if all of my nefarious plans go right, we'll have
- 1:48:10Speaker 4: some special guests thrown in on those episodes. So that's
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: where we'll be at least next week, maybe the next
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: couple of episodes. So the following week, and we were
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: just discussing that earlier today, what we're attempting to do,
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: the week after that is actually the 10th annual Lebowski Fest.
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: And if you weren't aware, you've probably heard about it
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: if you're a movie geek, and you may or may
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: not have known, this town that we're sitting in right
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: here is actually the birthplace of Lebowski Fest. Sometimes I'm
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: confused that it even exists, but the fact that it
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: has the following that it does is amazing. So I
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: just thought that was kind of interesting and that we're
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: sitting in the middle of it. So yeah, we're talking
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: to the guys at Lebowski Fest. We're going to try
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: to do an episode... from lebowski fest in some capacity
- 1:49:03Speaker 4: so yeah we're gonna go wander around lebowski and and
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: we're um we're planning a special movie tie-in it might
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: not be what you're thinking so.
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: Wonder what it could be wonder what it could.
- 1:49:16Speaker 13: Be we'll get back to that later all right uh
- 1:49:19Speaker 13: anything else we want to pass along this episode If
- 1:49:24Speaker 13: nothing else, thank you once again to Nancy's Bagel Round
- 1:49:26Speaker 13: for letting us commandeer the coffee shop here and scare
- 1:49:30Speaker 13: people away for the last couple of hours.
- 1:49:33Speaker 4: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next week.
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:49:46Speaker 22: Discos don't open till after dark And it ain't till
- 1:49:51Speaker 22: twelve till the party really starts And I always had
- 1:49:54Speaker 22: to be home by ten Right before the fun was
- 1:49:56Speaker 22: about to begin Proud.
- 1:49:58Speaker 20: Of people lined up inside and out Just one reason
- 1:50:01Speaker 20: to rock the house But in the daytime the streets
- 1:50:04Speaker 20: weren't clear You couldn't find a good freak anywhere cause
- 1:50:07Speaker 20: The freaks come out at night The freaks come out
- 1:50:10Speaker 20: at night The.
- 1:50:12Speaker 24: Freaks come out at night The freaks come out at
- 1:50:15Speaker 24: night This is from Adelaide.
- 1:50:26Speaker 12: Now when friends get dressed to go out at night,
- 1:50:28Speaker 12: they like to wear leather jackets, chains, and spikes. They
- 1:50:30Speaker 12: wear rips and zippers all in their shirts, real tight pants,
- 1:50:34Speaker 12: and fresh mini skirts. All kinds of colors running through
- 1:50:37Speaker 12: their hair, and you can just about spot a freak anywhere.
- 1:50:40Speaker 12: But then again, you can know someone all their life
- 1:50:42Speaker 12: and might not know their freak unless you see them
- 1:50:44Speaker 12: at night.
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: Cause friends go out at night.
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: The freaks come out at night.
- 1:51:04Speaker 20: Now the party's jumping, the place is packing, and when
- 1:51:06Speaker 20: the crowd's like this, I'm ready to rap. But before
- 1:51:09Speaker 20: I can buzz around on the mic, freaks are all
- 1:51:12Speaker 20: over me like white on rice. Freaks come in all shapes, sizes,
- 1:51:15Speaker 20: and colors, but what I like about them most is
- 1:51:17Speaker 20: that they're real good lovers. They do it in the park,
- 1:51:19Speaker 20: they do it in the dark, but most freaks are known.
- 1:51:22Speaker 14: For breaking hard.
- 1:51:23Speaker 20: You can never tell what a freak is thinking of
- 1:51:25Speaker 20: And you may never catch a freak without at least
- 1:51:27Speaker 20: one glove They don't walk, when they step they strut
- 1:51:30Speaker 20: And nine times out of ten they drive you nuts
- 1:51:32Speaker 20: So take my advice, you don't stand a chance Freaks
- 1:51:35Speaker 20: are so bad they got their own dance So if
- 1:51:37Speaker 20: you wanna live a nice quiet life Do yourself a favor,
- 1:51:41Speaker 20: don't come out at night Cause.
- 1:51:42Speaker 24: Freaks come out at night Freaks come out at.
- 1:51:46Speaker 2: Night Freaks come out at night.
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: The freaks come out at night.
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: The freaks come out at night.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: Hut, hut, hut, hut. The freaks come out at night.
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: The freaks come out. The freaks come out at night.
- 1:52:03Speaker 2: Hut one. Hut two.
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: Hut, hut, hut, hut.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: Dance break.
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: Get out to see.
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: Show me that you deserve to be a friend.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: Get a new show. Work it out now. Everybody, everybody,
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: have a good time.
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: Get a new show. Let it out now.
- 1:52:24Speaker 22: Let it all hang out.
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: Let it out now.
- 1:52:28Speaker 2: Let it all hang out. Dance, break, get out to sea.
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: Show me that you can turn me to your fight. Dance, break,
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: get out to sea.
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: Show me that you can turn me to your fight.
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: Dance, break, get out to sea. Show me that you
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: can turn me to your fight. Take a look now.
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: Let it hang out.
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: Everybody around, let it hang out.
- 1:52:48Speaker 17: You will feel me so much today.
- 1:52:56Speaker 10: .
- 1:53:03Speaker 24: .
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: The freaks come out at night.
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: The freaks come out at night.
- 1:53:48Speaker 24: We'll be fresh on names.
- 1:53:57Speaker 3: I'm Greg.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: I'm Fred.
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: Oh, now you're going to.
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: Fuck with me. No, he's right. He's Greg.
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: I'm Fred.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: Yes, I'm Fred.
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: Did we get that right? Did we?
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't know.
