- 0:27Hey everybody good morning from the chicken coop okay holidays
- 0:32today is one of my favorite days to talk about because it's
- 0:35creating traditions and. I absolutely love this.
- 0:40As I talked about the other day with the books and my husband
- 0:43and I, we do a book swap on Christmas Eve every year.
- 0:48We do it with every, you know, our family.
- 0:50And a book swap to me is one of the most fun things that I have.
- 0:56And as I mentioned in that one, he bought me a book.
- 0:59If he didn't hear that one, that was called Cut Flower Garden.
- 1:02And that book changed my world because it taught me.
- 1:06All about the possibilities of creating a garden just to cut
- 1:10the flowers. And I had never done that
- 1:13before. You don't grow flowers, you
- 1:14don't want to cut them. I always wanted them to stay on
- 1:16the plants. But what about the thoughts of
- 1:18inside this fence? And it was just such a mind
- 1:20blowing book. But anyway, we're talking about
- 1:24creating traditions and. That wasn't something that my
- 1:28family ever did with me. That was something that I came
- 1:30up with in this process that I'm teaching you now, which is about
- 1:34expanding your family traditions and the things that you do.
- 1:37So sometimes we do things and we don't realize where they came
- 1:40from, and sometimes we have to create them on our on our own.
- 1:43You know, when I was a very young child, my mother always
- 1:47had her sister come to the house and we had a giant picture
- 1:51window in the house. Where's this big big big glass
- 1:54window and? She would have her sister, who
- 1:57was very artistic, paint on a Santa scene on the window.
- 2:02And I used to sit and just watch her and I was enamored that she
- 2:06could paint a Santa Claus on the the glass like she did.
- 2:10And that that was on our window until, you know, January.
- 2:14And then my mother would wash it off.
- 2:15But that tradition started. I mean it was as as far as I can
- 2:20remember. I was probably like three or
- 2:23four when I remember the first one and it went up until I was
- 2:26probably about 10 and then they stopped it.
- 2:29I'm not sure why they stopped it, but I used to always say how
- 2:31come she doesn't do it, why can't she do it?
- 2:33And it and it meant something to me.
- 2:35And I I remember thinking I am going to have traditions and I
- 2:40just started really focusing on that and creating those things
- 2:45for myself and my family, so. It can be simple things.
- 2:48It can be things that you bake. It can be making cookies,
- 2:52cinnamon buns. Those are one of my things.
- 2:54And now that my daughter has gluten intolerance, the
- 2:58experiment begins because I'm going to be making some gluten
- 3:01free ones for her. And I haven't done that before,
- 3:05but Needless to say, shift Still sticking with the tradition.
- 3:09I will find a way to get it done.
- 3:12Doing the book swap. That's a big one of ours.
- 3:14I'm having a tree that is completely and totally like
- 3:19Macy's worthy tree. I'm obsessed with that.
- 3:22That is a tradition of mine giving a focal point in the
- 3:25House of creating a tree that is spectacular and I will work on
- 3:30it for four days straight if I need to, to make that tree
- 3:33spectacular. It is just part of what I say is
- 3:37the traditions for the family. You know when you start thinking
- 3:41about how you develop your own traditions, one of the things is
- 3:47what is what is everybody like? What is something that you know
- 3:50everybody really, really likes? And then you work around it,
- 3:54figuring out what can I do, go and do research on what are
- 3:58traditions for holidays in other countries.
- 4:02The book swap one I think came from something I read about
- 4:06either Sweden or Switzerland. It's very traditional there and
- 4:09I just thought, wow, that is so cool.
- 4:11But when you start doing research on this stuff and you
- 4:13figure out what all these other ones are, you're just like, wow,
- 4:17that is so cool. I want to try that.
- 4:19So it's not like you're left on your own to be creative with
- 4:21this. It's just a matter of doing some
- 4:23research and pulling some stuff up.
- 4:25I have a client who has one that I think is so sweet because they
- 4:28make breakfast in on Christmas Day.
- 4:32They get up, they open all their presents, they make breakfast on
- 4:35Christmas Day, and then they all sit down and they do an art
- 4:38project together and she has all the paints, all the color,
- 4:42everything's out and everybody does a picture of some sort.
- 4:46I'm air quoting that because it depends on the person, but she's
- 4:49got canvases, she's got boards, she's got all kinds of different
- 4:52stuff and they can just create a picture that wraps up their
- 4:56year. And I think that's awesome.
- 4:58Another tradition that I do here is vision boarding, and that is,
- 5:01that'll take place right after Christmas but before New Year's.
- 5:06So you sit down and we have a whole thing all cut out, put it
- 5:10together. I mean, I do vision boards like
- 5:12crazy. I've talked about it on here
- 5:14before, but to me, it is the time when you're wrapping up the
- 5:19year and you're setting up the new year.
- 5:21It's so much fun to do them then And do I do them throughout the
- 5:24year? Yes.
- 5:25And will I change them around? Yes, but it really means a lot
- 5:29to me to do them in that time frame because of where the time
- 5:33frame falls. So I think it's just a matter of
- 5:37doing some research, figuring out what kind of excites you,
- 5:40finding new traditions and create some because why not?
- 5:44Why not? Why not have some fun with it,
- 5:47OK my friends, I will see you tomorrow and I hope you have a
- 5:50blessed day. Bye.
